The speed at which Logan's face falls. So Oscar was just using him to not get fired? Did he genuinely believe that he was talented or just wanted to save his own ass? Was everything, everything between them all fake? Their relationship or whatever this thing between them, the foundation, all lies. Logan walks out, Oscar tries to explain himself to him but Logan doesn't want to hear it. This, this is exactly why he doesn't trust people, he'll only get hurt in the end. And the one time, the one time he puts his trust in someone, they manage to betray him. It's pretty funny, hilarious even but he can't find it in himself to laugh.

Do they make up in the end though? Of course they do. Oscar doesn't want to have to choose between Logan and his job so of course he quits it and chooses Logan. He gets some flowers and some fishing gear-sometimes on Logan's days off, he'd go to the seaside and fish on his own (he's in love guys, get with the story)-and appears in front of Logan's doorstep. Now, Logan is pretty strong. Maybe not as strong as Oscar but he's pretty strong, he works at a farm for God's sake but when he opens his front door to see Oscar drenched from the rain… (oh yea it's raining did I forget to mention?) Lord, he's not your strongest soldier. He begrudgingly (lies, he would've dragged Oscar into the house) let's Oscar in, makes him use the shower to warm up and lends him his clothes while he makes him a hot chocolate. I know Baek Yoon-Ho is stronger than the S-rank in Busan whose name escapes me, and is presumably on-par with Choi Jong-In, but Cha Hae-In is notably stronger. Go Gun-Hae probably would be nationally ranked but his body is falling apart so he appears to be a bit over CHI’s level despite telekinesis. Goto Ryuji is on par (probably) with GGH and probably Lennart but notably weaker than Liu Zhigang or Thomas Andre or Christopher Reed, etc.

I guess what I am trying to ask is do we have a reliable hierarchy/ranking of the S-ranks under national-level? Canonically? I’m piecing together what I see from the light novel

Easiest answer? Jinwoo is the closest case to knowing who is strong because he is the one that has fought almost everyone. But apart from that, no there isn't a real rank because there was never a need for it. The show is centered in jinwoo and not much about its side characters.

I don't tend to do a lot of seperation based on the S ranks since there's always a lot of debate in the story and in the Fandom as to who is stronger weaker than the other. It would have been cool to have seen the differences or someone still being strong despite those gaps but the heriarchy seems so fixed and at the same time so loose? For example, as the reader you know everyone is going to loose against Jinwoo, and that's about as much as the story cares to show, the more overseas they from korea more powerful they are, I.e Cha Haein<Goto Ryuji<Liu Zhigang<Thomas.

And the only two exceptions to that are Gunhee and Ilhwan which surprise are actually Ruler vessels. But as for whenever we want to pity other Hunters against each other, say for example Shimizu Akari and Min Byung Gyu, (both S rank healers) or Goto Ryuji and Lennart Niermann, we only have like 2 or three fights, (panels even sometimes it's not even fights) that show their potential, whenever it's their peak performance or not that is up for debate.

That aside, I do agree with some of your analysis but I have some things to add on as well.

For me, I'll say the weakest S rank out there has to be Min Byung Gyu, since he is obviously an S rank healers and only has supposedly A tier strength. As for the weakest S rank in terms of fighting power it has to be Ma Dong-Wok(the Busan guy). Why I don't put Lkm Tae Gyu as the weakest is because, at best he is the second weakest if you round up all the S ranks, or the weakest magic type hunter since he is an archer after all.

All in all the rest seem to be the same as you said for me too.

Min Byung-Gyu < Lim Tae Gyu < Ma Dong Wok < Baek Yoon Ho, Choi Jong In < Cha Hae-In < Go Gun Hee (Il Hwan < Jin-Woo)

I'm not sure about the gap between Yoonho and Jongin, especially when most of the Hunters guild #1 spot comes from the fact that there are two S ranks instead of just one. But Choi Jongin is called the ultimate soldier so I'll put him as stronger than Yoonho. hi! i really enjoy your posts. can i ask about innovators (pure or innovade) eyes when they change color to yellow, is there explanation about what kind of abilities they can do when that eyes activated? i know about when setsuna used it to activate quantum burst or when innovades interact with veda with it, but is there more lore about the eyes? or if you have opinions about it i wanna read it too. thanks in advance!

glad you like the blog, anon <3 it's funny you ask this, because i was just thinking about innovator eyes for writing reasons. this is very rambly and i apologize in advance. the first interesting thing i can think of harkens back to some older lore that should still be somewhere over on the gundam 00 lj community under the translations tag. the gist of it that i remember is that it served as an explanation for why tieria wears glasses despite not needing vision correction. apparently it's to protect his eyes, on account of something to the effect of his eyes being necessary for the connection with veda to be made. maybe they're the specific component that allows this interface to happen? it seems a little like a handwave to explain what was probably just an aesthetic choice on yun kouga's part, but it's an interesting tidbit nonetheless. notably, the super soldier characters' eyes don't glow despite being capable of using qbw. innovades and innovators have stronger qbw (a stronger capacity for them, maybe you'd put it?), so there being something special about their eyes that helps facilitate their use at higher levels actually makes a lot of sense. this has some pretty horrifying implications for tieria if you imagine a scenario where neil wasn't able to protect him from patrick. what if neil hadn't been the one to lose an eye that day...? what characters can actually do with qbw varies a lot between the super soldiers, the innovades, and setsuna. i think we can assume that qbw are always present to some degree -- alle and soma had serious problems just being in the vicinity of one another, and the els are attracted to anyone with the capacity for them -- but they can further still be 'activated'. we most often see glowing eyes when characters are intentionally accessing them -- consider when tieria activates them to get the els to follow after him instead of setsuna -- but intention isn't a prerequisite. regene and louise' eyes glow when their qbw are being accessed. ultimately i think it signifies qbw being used at a higher level on a whole. i get the impression too that ribbons had stronger qbw than the rest of his group if he was able to get into regene's head despite not being of the same genetic type. regene can presumably only speak telepathically with tieria, along with revive -> anew, etc. (worth noting, and i just checked this, but regene's eyes don't glow when he's speaking telepathically to tieria for the first time they meet. maybe this doesn't require high levels of qbw usage?) setsuna is an interesting case as the primary innovator we see. innovades as a whole seem to have a lot more control over the usage of their qbw than setsuna does. the one exception here would be anew, but only before she awakened to her true nature. setsuna has the strongest qbw potentional, but probably because he became an innovator so recently, his particular usage of them seems to vacillate between intentional and unintentional. quantum burst was intentional, but trans-am burst comes across to me like something that happened unconsciously out of setsuna's desire to protect everyone. consider also the scene where the lights on ptolemy go out and saji sees that setsuna's eyes are glowing. i didn't get the impression that setsuna even realized it. innovades were built to use them, but setsuna just kind of ended up with these abilities. that both innovades and innovators possess glowing eyes could be seen as another spot-on prediction from aeolia, too. imagine he anticipated how a true innovator might appear, and designed the innovade eye functionality in that image. from a meta perspective, glowing eyes are a great visual shorthand for QBW Stuff Is Happening, and thematically it conveys something too (although i might be reaching here). eyes are considered the windows to the soul, and i think you could argue that was taken into consideration here, where glowing eyes to ultimately represent the transference of information. communication.
