"Something is really wrong with Steve," Robin says.
The party look up, startled. They wait for her to continue, but she starts pacing nervously. It immediately sets the kids on edge, glancing at each other uneasy.
"What do you mean?" Dustin eventually speaks up. "Is he... ill?"
"No, no, it's... his parents came home, right?"
"Yeah, we know," Max snorts. "Dustins mom had to ban him from the house because he wouldn't leave."
"He can't avoid them forever," Dustin points out. "I get that it's hard to talk to them when you have to lie all the time but they're, like, paying for all his shit."
"No they aren't!" Robins voice cracks. "They cut him off years ago! Dude, he hates them and now he's writing up a resignation letter so he can go work for his dad."
"Why is that a bad thing?" El asks, eyes a little wide.
"He'd have to train for a few months in New York for one."
"New York?!" All of them burst out. They all try to speak at once, loud and panicked. They're so loud that Hopper bursts out, confused and tired and panicked.
"What the hell is going on?" He snaps.
The kids all look a little guilty. El stands up so he looks at her. "We are worried about Steve."
"What? Jeez, that's what you're yelling about?"
"He's moving away!" Mike snaps. "To New York! For months!"
Hopper frowns at him like he's not making sense. "New York?"
"To work with his dad," Robin adds. "I didn't know if I should talk him out-"
"They're back?" Hopper asks. He's gone still, voice devoid of emotion and dangerously calm. "How long?"
"A month? Maybe more, it-"
"And they're home now? Do you know if Steve is there with them? It's not one of his shifts, is it? That'd make it easier."
"What? No, he's home. Make what easier?"
Hopper ignores the question, grabbing his coat and shoes. "Stay here, I won't be long."
He ignores the questions that grow frantic and panicked when he picks up his gun, stomping out the door at a fast pace. Robin is yelling from the door as he climbs into his car. She's too taken aback to even begin to think of how to answer to avalanche of questions the kids throw at her.
Hopper gets to the Harrington house in record time, having sped just a little to get there. Mrs Harrington is the one who opens the door and looks a little guilty when she sees him.
"Where is he?" Hopper asks.
She steps back, letting him in. "In his room."
Hopper pushes past her, taking the stairs two at a time. Steve is sat at his desk when he enters the room without knocking, head snapping up and looking startled. He looks a little ashamed when he realizes that it's Hopper.
"Hop," Steves voice is strained. He frowns when Hopper ignores him, pulling his closet open. "Uh, Hopper? What are you doing?"
"Taking you home," Hopper mutters. He pulls out the three bags he knows Steve has been keeping hidden, just in case. "Come on, pack up."
"I can't just-"
"Yes you can. Pack. Up."
Steve only hesitates for a moment. He slowly fills up one with his few sentimental things and some things he considers important (his scoops uniform, the drawings from Will). Hopper stuffs the other two with clothes. It doesn't take them long.
"I'll come back for the rest, if you want any of it," Hopper hands Steve his car keys, waving him toward the stairs. "Wait in the car. I'll be a minute."
Steve hesitates at the door, glancing between Hopper and his mom. He leaves though, doesn't say goodbye.
"Right, here's what's going to happen; I'm going to come back for the rest of his things. I've seen that room, I'll know if somethings missing. And that shit is his, don't try to bullshit me." Hopper eyes her with visible distaste. "He's an adult now. You can't take him back and if I hear that either of you've been trying to harass him again, I'll press charges."
She nods, which is enough of an answer for him. He throws the two bags in the back with the third before climbing in the drivers seat. The air is thick with tension as he pulls out the drive, starting the drive back to the cabin.
"Um... could you, uh, drop me off at the trailer park?" Steve asks, quiet and timid in a way that is horribly familiar to Hopper. "I, uh... I need to see Eddie."
Hopper grunts. He grits his teeth to stop himself snapping. It wouldn't be fair on Steve. So he drives him there, quiet and tense.
"Thanks," Steve mumbles.
But Hopper climbs out too, gently grabbing Steves jacket lapels to drag him over to the Munsons trailer. Hopper knocks.
"Oh," Waynes eyebrows raise. He looks Hopper up and down before turning his eyes on Steve, who he gives a soft smile. "Harrington, you doing alright?"
"No," Hopper answers for him. "Could we come in for a moment?"
"Sure?" Wayne shuffles out the way, shutting the door behind them. "Eddie's in his room, if you want me to get him?"
"You want your boy to see?" Hopper asks Steve.
Steve ducks his head, fiddling with the sleeves of his jacket. He mutters, "he probably will anyway."
"Ok. Do you want him here for this?"
"Here for what?" Eddie asks, hovering in the doorway, worried. "What's happened?"
"Nothing," Steve tries to say. "It's... really, it's nothing."
"Steve," Hopper calmly says. Waits for Steve to look back at him, simply raises an eyebrow. "Where?"
"Hopper, it's fine, really."
"Where?"
Steve tries to stare him down, unsuccessfully. He huffs, annoyed, glancing at Wayne and Eddie who, understandably, look confused.
He slowly takes his jacket off, keeping his eyes on the floor. There's a sharp intake of breath when the dark, almost black, bruises on his arms are revealed. They litter the entirety of both arms, the ones around his left wrist and right bicep standing out the most- the ones shaped like hands.
"Steve," Eddie whispers, walking forward slowly. He's careful, brushing his fingers against his skin. "Oh, baby, who did this?"
"It's fine," Steve tries to insist.
Hopper clears his throat though. "Where else?"
Steve doesn't try to argue this time. He grabs the back of his collar, lifting his top off. His ribs have the worst of his bruises.
"Fuck," Eddie carefully, gently, pulls Steve into a hug. Presses gentle, ever so soft kisses to his neck. His hand is just as gentle when he rubs his back. Steve clings to him, grip looking almost painful, but Eddie doesn't complain.
Hopper turns to Wayne, who is also pointedly looking away so the two can have their moment. "His parents are gonna try to find him. Direct them to me if they try here."
"Don't worry about Steve," Wayne glances at the pair, still wrapped around each other, at the bruises. "Worry about them. If they try to come by here, they'll be leaving in a body bag. I'm sick of assholes treating my kids like this."
Hopper looks over at Eddie, who's pulling back so he can hold Steves face, eyes painfully understanding. He nods at Wayne, pats his shoulder. "I'm getting the rest of his stuff, he's got no reason to go back there. It's my cabin he's coming home to."
"I'll drive him there myself," Wayne glances at the pair, who think they're being subtle and sneaky as they giggle their way towards Eddies room. "Tomorrow."
Hopper chuckles, glancing towards the hall the two disappeared down. "Tomorrow."

@steddielovemonth Day 24: Love is the only thing we can take with us.
@thefreakandthehair
Tumblr media
Steve looked around his room, it would be the last time he did. He could hear his parents still arguing downstairs. He knew he didn't have a lot of time, soon he'd hear his father's footsteps coming up the stairs.
"You're no son of mine!"
Steve hadn't felt like his son in a long time anyway. When he thought of dads he thought of Hopper at his graduation or Wayne watching the game with him. He'd called Hopper, Dad, when he woke up in the hospital and saw the previously dead police chief at his bedside. No, Steve Harrington hadn't been Richard Harrington's son in a long time.
He knew he didn't have much time, but he'd been planning for this moment, the day they would find out. It was inevitable, small town, nosy neighbours. Steve kept his room impersonal for a reason, it wouldn't last forever. Kneeling quickly he grabbed his box, it was all he would need.
The clothes he actually liked wearing weren't in this closet anymore, the beemer had always been in his name. Nothing else in the house mattered but this box. The last piece of Steve in these four walls.
"Steven?"
He'd asked her to call him Steve all his life, she didn't.
"Can't you see what you're doing to your mother?"
Maria Harrington hadn't been Steve's mother in a long time. Mothers were there for their kids when they woke up from nightmares. Claudia never judged when he woke up screaming on the couch. A true mother looked after their son when he was sick in bed, soup and comfort and love. Joyce brought him soup last winter, when the flu had him stuck in bed, he didn't even call, she just knew.
"I know, I'm leaving now."
"Please, Steven, there are places we can go to fix you," she cried. Mothers don't think their kid's heart needs fixing.
"You were supposed to be a real man!" Richard yelled as he passed him down the stairs. Fathers are proud of their sons growing into protectors and carers.
"This will never be your home again!" Was the last thing Steve heard as he closed his car door and placed the small box on the passenger seat. Parents always have a home waiting for you, even when they think you're wrong.
"Steve?"
Wayne is the first one to spot him as he arrives at the trailer. It's sunday, family dinner at the rotating family table. Tonight was meant to be at the Munsons.
"Steve, honey? You ok?" Joyce is the first one to touch him, worry in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, son." Hopper is the first one to read his teary eyes like a book. They all knew where he'd been.
Claudia gingerly took the box from him, "I'll put this in your room, sweetheart, let Eddie know you're back home."
Steve could hear the kids yelling around the picnic table outside; could smell dinner cooking. Robins laughter piercing though the air and Eddie's boombox playing loudly.
"Baby?"
There he was.
"Hey, Eds, think we'll have to move up that moving date, if it's ok?"
Eddie's features softened from worry to sympathy, "Course, sunshine, although I'm still surprised Joyce and Hop didn't kidnap you months ago.
Later, when he'd given everyone hugs goodbye, some were a bit tighter than others, he sat on the bed with his box.
"You wanna unpack that alone, or want help?"
"You can look, it's not a secret, just special," Steve replied, patting the space next to him. Eddie plopped himself down beside his boyfriend, lifting the lid.
Inside was a mess of bits and pieces. Eddie reached in and took out a stack of photos. Steve at his graduation, a big smile with Hopper's arm around his shoulders, Dustin beaming beside him. Robin putting Steve in a headlock at the quarry last summer, he refuses to say he let her win. Eddie at his first show back, scars on full display. And countless other memories.
There were also little toys from the arcade and pebbles and ticket stubs and letters and a full life story of one Steve Harrington told through the love of his family.
"This was all I went back to get, all I needed. Wasn't expecting them to know about you already, but I knew they'd find out one day. Couldn't let them have this, not after they spent so long trying to take my heart from me."
"I think it's high time we clear some space around here for all this, Stevie, time to let your love be out on full display."
When Steve fell asleep that night, wrapped in the arms of a boy who went to hell from him and staring at the new photos on the wall, he truly felt home.

No Regrets - Part Three
This one got longer than I expected, so it's only about Spring Break. We return to the apocalypse next part.
Part One🦇 Part Two🦇Part Three🦇Part Four🦇Part Five🦇Part Six
Tumblr media
"-eve?"
Waking up again is disorienting. His head aches like the beginning of a migraine. There was something he was thinking about but it's fading quickly. A conversation in a boathouse...? That's not right. The boathouse was empty. The police had beat them there.
"Steve?"
No. No conversation in a boathouse. But there was a phone call. He knows he remembers that. Joyce had called last night. Her and Murray sharing a phone between them as Steve- Oh! Right. Steve told them he knew about Hopper in Russia.
"You have to go, though. Hopper is alive and waiting. And there's a demogorgon. Demodogs, too. You have to kill them all. Any connection to the Upside Down left alive helps Vecna. It's like having a tether to here makes him stronger."
"I can't just abandon El," Joyce sounds conflicted, and Steve gets it. He does.
"You aren't. You're going to be giving her back her dad. She's got Jonathan and Will and Mike. Argyle, too, if he wants to be there. Just. Just get them on the road and back here as soon as you can. If they don't leave soon than Brenner will-"
"Brenner? What do you mean Brenner? He's dead. Right? He's supposed to be dead."
"Yeah, well, he's not. He- I don't know the full details, just. I was just given an overview because, y'know, other shit was going down. But he makes El relive a lot of traumatic shit from her past and yeah, it gets her back her powers, but she's just a kid. She's just a kid."
"Her abilities, they aren't gone?" It's Murray who asks.
"No. She's just traumatized, in a different way. It was... it was Jonathan who said this, actually, to me. I mean, he hasn't said it yet, and if everything goes the way I want, he won't need to say it ever, but that's- sorry, that's not important. He said he thinks El blocked her abilities because she lost Hopper. An internal block, you know? 'Cause she couldn't save him with them, so what was the point of having them?"
"And you think bringing Hopper back will free her of that block?" Murray asks.
Steve can't help it. He laughs. "Hell no. I think years of therapy might, but having her dad will help. There's no way it hurts, right? Also, uh, you're the parent here, Joyce, so I'll let you decide what to tell her, but the big, awful thing that Brenner made her relive? It was a massacre. At the lab, when she was there. Another guy, another number, killed a bunch of the people there. It was El who saved the remainder. She stopped him from killing anyone else by opening the first gate to the Upside Down. She tossed him in and closed it. She's not a monster. Oh, that part you have to tell her. She's not a monster."
"Steve!"
There's more to the phone call, Steve knows he knows that but there's yelling and it's distracting.
"Steve!!"
"What?" Steve snaps, both with his shout and back into himself. He's sitting at the picnic in Forest Hills. Everyone is looking at him with varying degrees of concern.
"You okay?" Robin asks, "we've been trying to get your attention for a while now."
"What? Yeah, sorry," Steve says, distracted, standing up and looking around. Eddie's trailer is right there, and Wayne's truck is parked in front. He knows Wayne. Knew Wayne? He's in charge of the gardens at home base. A real green thumb, not that you can tell by looking at the trailer now. "You think that with Fred's death, they'll stop suspecting Eddie?"
"What? We don't know that they suspect Eddie," Dustin is quick to say, "I know he didn't do it, and so do you so-"
"Yeah, I know! I do know that, but Chrissy died in his home and then he ran. Of course, he's a suspect. But he was in jail last night. So. They can't suspect him still, right?"
Nancy purses her lips, giving Steve a look he knows isn't good. "Well, it will depend on when they apprehended Eddie, which we don't even know they did. How do you know he was in jail last night?"
"Good point. I don't, not for sure. But Wayne might," Steve says as he starts walking away. He can hear everyone at the picnic table shouting for him and scrambling to follow. Steve picks up speed, dashing up the steps and pounding on the door before anyone catches up.
"Steve, what are you doing," Max hisses, because she's the fastest and therefore the closest.
"I just gotta-"
"Can I help you?" Wayne Munson greets, voice even. Steve watches as his eyes sweep the group, pausing on Nancy before coming back to Steve.
"Hopefully. Uh, I'm a friend of- well, no that's a lie. I don't want to lie to you. I'm not Eddie's friend, but I want to be, and Dustin here is, so we just wanted to know if you could tell us if Eddie's okay?" Steve says. "You already talked to Nancy yesterday, but she didn't know that we, like, knew him. Have you heard from Eddie?"
Wayne eyes him with suspicion, which is fair, "I ain't heard from him."
"Please," Steve says, because he's got to try one more time. Either Wayne doesn't know for real, or he's lying because he doesn't trust Steve. He's not sure he'll be able to tell which is which, but he has to ask again, "I swear that we just want to help Eddie. Whatever happened to Chrissy wasn't his fault, I know that. I just need. I need to know he's not- not out there, alone and scared. Please."
Wayne stares him down and Steve refuses to look away. Wayne's eyes flick away from him to the single police cruiser still stationed nearby, then back. "Get in here."
He doesn't need told twice. Wayne retreats into the trailer and Steve follows. Immediately his eyes jump to where the gate will form. Currently it just looks like water damage on the ceiling, but Steve knows. No gate yet, but it'll be there tomorrow. Probably fully formed by the time Vecna tries to take Max.
Robin, the last one in, shuts the door behind her gently.
"I told her yesterday that Eddie didn't do this," Wayne nods his head towards Nancy but he never takes his eyes off Steve. "Didn't stop them from arresting him."
"Thank God," Steve breaths out, which is the wrong thing to say, given how quickly Wayne's face morphs to anger, so he quickly adds, "shit, I mean, that means, he was in police custody when they found another victim last night, right? That'll prove he's innocent."
Wayne doesn't respond right away. Instead, he takes his time looking at each and every one of them, lingering on Nancy before settling on Max. "You live 'cross the way, don't ya?"
Max looks surprised to be recognized. "Yeah."
"Did you see anything?"
"I saw..." she trails off, brows furrowing as she thinks. She looks from Wayne to Steve. He doesn't know what she sees on his face, but he watches as she steels herself, a decidion made, before looking back to Wayne and saying, "What I saw is whatever I'll need to have seen to help Eddie."
"You'd lie to the police for Eddie?"
Max and Wayne have a silent conversation following the question, judging by their stare down and raising and following brow lines. When Max does speak, she says, "I've lied to police for worse people."
"Huh," is all Wayne says as he settles back against the counter behind him.
"Thank you," Steve says, even as his mind starts to calculate. They'll probably keep him the full 48 hours, since there isn't evidence enough to charge him. Right? There isn't really any evidence. Except, perhaps, what Eddie might have told them. Shit. Would Eddie say anything? "Can you let me know when they release him? Whatever happened, whatever he saw, probably freaked him out. I don't want him to feel alone. I mean, we don't."
Dustin is looking at him now like he's grown a second head but Wayne. Wayne is looking at him like he's made a realization. Drawn some unknown conclusion that he must approve of because he nods. "Sure, son."
"You got pen and paper? I'll write down my number."
The silence from his friends is deafening and does not bode well for Steve. He just knows they're going to bombard him as soon as they leave the trailer.
Which is exactly what happens. They wait until they're back by their cars before starting in, though.
"Steve, what the fuck was that?" Dustin says.
"How did you know he got arrested?" Max demands.
"Steve, you are acting so strange right now," Robin says, worry painted across her face.
"Explain," is all Nancy says, crossing her arms.
Should he? Does he even know what's happening? No. Not really. He's got memories of a future that's bleak and dark and terrible and he doesn't want it to come true. Are they even memories? Did those events even happen? He doesn't know for sure. All he does know if he wants to do everything in his power to prevent it from happening though. He doesn't want to have regrets about.... about something.
"We don't win," he says. "We don't win this one. Or, we didn't? We might now. Things are different this time."
"What?" Robin asks.
Steve ignores the question, giving instead more of the information he knows, "Hopper's alive. Joyce and Murray are on their way to Russia to save him."
"WHAT?" he's not sure who asked. Maybe all of them.
"And El is- I don't know. On her way, I hope. But she won't have her powers when she gets here. Or maybe she will? If she believes she's not a monster and really is the hero."
"Steve, you are not making any sense!"
"I know!" Steve shouts and drops into a squat. "I know! I'm not the- the figure it out guy, or the plans guy, or whatever. I'm just the guy who knows things he shouldn't, and I can't tell if it's because I actually lived it, or if I was just given knowledge about it somehow. I know the Upside Down has a red storm that never ends, more democreatures that just gorgons or dogs, and that Vecna slash Henry slash One is a goddamn monster who opens a giant hell gate and causes the apocalypse."
"Whoa, whoa," Dustin sooths, and when Steve looks up, Dustin's got both hands up and approaching like Steve's a wild animal. He kind of feels like one right now. "Slow down and explain."
There's a lot Steve could say. Should say. Steve is kind and soft, even in the face of the end of the world, but he's also learning that he's a little ruthless. Not heartless, but enough that he can see where they are, where they need to be, and how to get there in the easiest way possible. His eyes flick to Max. "Chrissy and Fred. They were both seeing the guidance counselor. You've seen them both there, right Max?"
"I- yeah. Yeah, I have."
"And Nancy, you've got a hunch, right? You need to go to the library to check it out?"
She narrows her eyes at him but nods.
"Okay. So, uh, let's use that as proof. You and Robin go check out your hunch, and I'll stick with Dustin and Max. Take Max to see Ms. Kelley and see if she'll tell Max anything that connects them?"
"You already know what we'll find, don't you?" Nancy asks, and Steve shrugs. "You're right. I won't believe you. Not without this proof. So, we'll go, Robin and me. And when we meet up, I expect you to tell me what we learned."
Max is completely silent the entire drive, an exact opposite of Dustin who shoots off so many questions in a row that Steve can barely remember the first by the time he's onto the next. Not that it would matter, because Dustin doesn't pause between any of his questions or comments to let Steve answer anyway.
Max launches herself from car almost as soon as Steve pulls up to the curb with a loudly groaned, "finally" before she slams the door and bounds across the street.
"Steve! Are you even listening to me!?" Dustin has finally lost steam or ran out of breath or something.
"Are you done yelling at me?" Steve retorts.
Dustin lets out a really big sigh then says, "For now. I just- Let's start with this. How do you know that Hopper's alive?"
"Joyce and Murray confirmed it when I talked to them on the phone. They're supposed to be getting El and crew heading back this way while they go to rescue him, but I don't really know how that's going."
Dustin squints at him. "I thought you could see the future now."
"No. I saw the future, so like, lived it or something. And it's like... You watch Back to the Future yet?"
"Yes."
"Okay, so like, the part where his family starts to vanish from the picture? Because he made his mom want to bang him-?"
"That is a disgusting oversimplification of the plotline, Steve."
"-it's like that. Except I want to change the events because we definitely end up in the bad timeline."
"Okay. Say I believe you. You said we don't win this time. Explain that."
Steve sighs. "Can that wait for like, everyone? Explain it all at once?"
"What made it so bad you have to alter the course of all of human existence?" Dustin demands.
"The Upside Down breaks through, man," Steve says, "Like, toxic air and no more sunlight or blue skies kinda bad. Full on, end of the world apocalypse type shit."
"Shit. We, like, lose lose," Dustin says in a small voice Steve doesn't think he's ever heard Dustin use before he huffs and falls out of view with a click and the sound of squeaking leather. Steve watches as Dustin reclines his seat back so he can stare up at the ceiling of the BMW.
"Yeah," Steve says before they fall into silence until Max sprints back, screaming for him to drive before she's even got the door closed behind her and certainly isn't wearing her seatbelt yet.
They all converge at the school, and Steve tells them what Nancy and Robin learned at the library, then Max puts together the thread that connected Chrissy and Fred, and he has to watch, again, as she accepts she's going to die. She even looks to him, as if he'll confirm that with a shake of his head or a nod.
He just blinks back at her until she looks away.
They want answers he isn't ready to give. Not until tomorrow, after Vecna tries to take Max. Given how today has gone, tomorrow shouldn't be much of a change. Nancy and Robin will still go the Pennhurst, and Steve will take Max everywhere she wants to go, but this time he'll be ready. It's not too late, so the little music store down from Melvald's will still be open. Hopefully they have Kate Bush handy. He'll make sure Lucas has a backup cassette player and-
"Wait. Lucas should be told. He should be here. Why isn't he..." Steve trails off, trying to remember why Lucas would be here. He went to party with the basketball team and- and what? There's something he's missing. Something changed. His head hurts and the white noise is back, and it hits him so suddenly he sways and stumbles backwards until he hits a wall.
"Steve!" Robin gasps his name and rushes to hold him up. Dustin is at his other side just as quick.
"I'm ok," Steve says with eyes closed. He can't explain it, but he's changed something. He knows he has. Lucas is with them tomorrow, he remembers that, and there's this feeling that he should be here now. That he should have shown up at the school, but the reason eludes him. Slips from his grasp like he's trying to hold water. "It's- there was something that was supposed to happen. Something that made Lucas find us here at the school. I remember that. I- I almost hit him with a lamp. But he's not here. He didn't- something's changed. Whatever happened before didn't happen again."
"What, like, you changed the past?" Dustin asks.
The laugh Steve lets out is manic, even to his own ears. "I don't know! I can't remember! It's there, the why, but I can't reach it. It's faded, man, like the picture. It's faded."
"Okay, I think it's time we get some rest," Nancy says. "Dustin, you'll radio Lucas tonight and fill him in. Tell him Steve or I will pick him up tomorrow morning to join us. Let's go everyone, before someone does show up."
Nancy takes Dustin and Max, and Robin sticks with Steve. She doesn't even question his detour to the music store, just helps him find the Kate Bush tape. Doesn't even raise an eyebrow when he buys two cassette players, five blank tapes, and a tape recorder.
"Who is the mix tape for?" Robin asks him only once they're at Steve's house and settled in for the night in front of the fancy stereo in Steve's living room. Robin's called her parents already and told them she was staying with a friend, and they had leftovers for dinner from.
"Just in case. Now, shh," Steve says, and once Robin has properly quieted, he pressed record on the tape recorder and play on the stereo. He's already found the track he wants, so it's just a matter of waiting the song out, pausing the tape recorder quickly, then rewinding the tape. He goes too far back, so his finger just hovers over the record button until Running Up That Hill comes back on, and he repeats the process. Over and over again, until the hour long tape is filled with nothing but one song.
Robin watches him do it in complete silence. She doesn't move or shuffle until after he's paused the recording, stilling again once he hits record. He knows she doesn't understand why, but also that she doesn't need to understand. He knows that she knows he'll explain as soon as he's able.
He's just afraid to say too much right now. He can remember tomorrow; the Pennhurst plan, how it is supposed to go based on what remembers Nancy and Robin saying. Max will bully him into driving her around, and they'll end up at Billy's grave. He'll be ready this time, he already knows the answers they're seeking but he doesn't want to risk too much.
He has a plan. And it'll work. It has too.
Because he can't remember what happens after. Patrick dies, and there's... water? A lake? But why is Patrick at a lake in the dark? He isn't, is the thing. It's like there are two memories overlapping in Steve's mind and he doesn't know which is real. Or if either of them are.
There's a memory of... of Eddie? Eddie talking about Patrick floating but there's also a memory of hearing it on the news, Patrick found dead in his room, murdered the same way as Chrissy and Fred with no sign of forced entry in his house. Both memories feel real, but Steve doesn't know, can't tell, which is.
Robin and he falls sleep wrapped around each other that night.

Well Met By Moonlight Part 13
Hey, guys do you all remember that period of time when I was working on this story but refused to show you snippets of it on WIP Wednesdays? Yeah, this is that chapter. (I'm pretty sure, anyway. Because this shit was super spoilery.)
We finally get what happened to Steve and why he didn't grow up as Pack. This chapter does get a little dark in its themes so be careful when you read and if you need specifics, DM me and I'll fill you in.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12
****
Eddie and Wayne landed in front of their trailer with a deft touch. Eddie still wasn’t over the joy of being able to fucking fly. Like sure when he was younger, Wayne would take him for flights occasionally, but nothing beat banking on a breeze as the wind lifted him higher and higher.
“Your boy’s got a mouth on him,” Wayne said gruffly as he walked up the stairs to their trailer.
Eddie chuckled. “Always had. Even in school.”
Wayne huffed out a laugh. “True enough.”
As soon as they were safe inside, Eddie asked, “Hey, do you remember that couple who took Stevie in when his parents died?”
Wayne frowned. “You mean the Franklins?” he asked, tilting his head to the side.
Eddie snapped his fingers. “Yeah, them. Why was Steve placed with them? And not, I don’t know, the pack?”
“Ah.”
Wayne went to the kitchen and pulled out a six pack of beers. “That’s a bit of story. Drink up, you’ll need it for this.”
Eddie opened up a can of beer and settled in for story time.
Wayne downed an entire beer and wiped his mouth off with his sleeve.
“Hopper had gotten bad,” Wayne began. “Like real bad.”
“You’ve mentioned that before. That was around the time I came to live with you, right?”
Wayne nodded. “It wasn’t just drinking. It was drugs, too. And not just weed, either. I’m talking the heavy stuff.”
Eddie nodded. He had sold said heavy stuff to Hopper just before he cleaned up with El coming into his life. When Wayne asked him why, Eddie told him that he had no idea what he was doing with it and honestly didn’t care.
Knowing what Eddie did now, he regretted it, but he was so close to being able to afford his Warlock that that was all he cared about at the time.
“Steve’s dad Clint Harrington was getting ready to challenge Hopper for the position of alpha,” Wayne continued. “He knew that he might kill Hopper, but at that point it probably would have been a mercy.”
Eddie nodded solemnly. Maybe if Clint Harrington had lived, lived to be the alpha, the town wouldn’t be experiencing the troubles it was now.
“So what happened?” he asked gravely.
“Allison’s father died out in New York,” Wayne said. “The timing of it was so suspect, Ed. Like, you know I hate conspiracies with every fiber of my being, because there rarely is one. But this smelled rank from the get go.”
“You think whoever had the Harringtons killed,” Eddie said, “you think also popped off Granpappy, too, don’t you?”
Wayne glared at him, but conceded the point. “Whatever happened to the Harringtons was bad, boy. Like their bodies were savaged–”
He stopped and his eyes went wide. “It was exactly like this morning. I couldn’t tell the scent then, just like I couldn’t now.”
Eddie nodded. “As near as I could tell, there wasn’t a scent to be had. Whatever it was who killed the Harringtons and attacked Patrick, didn’t leave behind a scent.”
“There are very few things in this world that leave a scent so minuscule I could barely detect it,” Wayne said.
Eddie nodded. “So what happened with Steve after they died?” He was interested in the other thing, but he was really worried about his boyfriend.
“The old mayor, Larry Kline and I,” Wayne said amused, “made the decision that the pack wasn’t safe for Steve. But despite what Steve thinks the Franklins weren’t human.”
Eddie frowned. “They weren’t?”
“They were Were too,” he said with wary tilt of his head. “Were-bat. We figured that with them being at least Weres would be able to teach him how to shift and how to shift back comfortably.”
“So what went wrong?” Eddie asked, moving closer to Wayne on the sofa. “Because holy hell, pops, if Steve had been human CPS would have been called and fast.”
Wayne drank more of his beer and then rubbed one eye with the other hand. “I don’t know. I honestly don’t. There were no indications that Steve was anything other than a kid who’s parents died and was adjusting to it. Yeah, he wasn’t exactly happy, but we didn’t expect him to be, you know?”
“So what changed?”
Wayne drank the last of his beer and set it on the coffee table. “They were away on a trip and I don’t know if they forgot, didn’t care, or planned it... but Steve wolfed out for the first in his entire life when he was eighteen.”
“What?!”
Weres were supposed to shift for the first time when they hit puberty. Early teens for most of them. But to not shift until you were eighteen was just begging for the Were to go insane.
“Fucking hell, Uncle Wayne,” Eddie groaned. “Whoever this is is playing a long ass game. Jesus Christ. They were hoping he would go crazy, ending the Harrington line for good. So what happened?”
Wayne licked his lips. “Steve ran to me. He was frightened. Terrified out of his mind. Old Mack nearly shot the poor bastard as he came tearing through the trailer park.”
“Jesus H. Christ...” Eddie whispered.
Wayne chuckled. “It wouldn’ve done shit, it was just a regular bullet, it wouldn’ve even slowed him down.”
Eddie breathed a sigh of relief. “So what stayed Mack’s hand then?”
“You’ve seen your boy in wolf form,” Wayne said, “can you imagine how beautiful he looked then? The cream of his under belly blending with the warm brown of his back and face as he tore down the gravel pavement?”
Eddie could imagine it in fact. Steve was gorgeous as a human, but as a werewolf? He was exquisite. It came from his mixed breeding of being born from another born werewolf and his turned wife. Born werewolves tended to be more timber wolf in their appearance. Almost dire wolf-esque. Big, with course fur and fierce. Bitten werewolves tended toward the smaller red wolves. Quick, slender, and cunning as hell.
Steve was a mix of these two breeds and it made him the most beautiful thing on four legs Eddie have ever scene.
“To fire at something so majestic would have been a travesty,” Wayne was saying when Eddie came back from his revery. “So Mack just stood there, rifle in hand as Steve made straight for my door.”
Eddie frowned. “Where was I? I don’t remember this.”
“You and your friends had gone to Indy for some concert or another,” Wayne said. “I don’t rightly recall.”
Eddie’s frown got deeper, he’d only gone to one concert with his friends in Indy because one of the ‘85 Hellfire Club members had gotten tickets for graduation and had taken all of them.
“Is that why you weren’t home when I got back into Hawkins?” he asked. “You were dealing with Steve?”
Wayne nodded and popped open another bottle of beer. He held one up to Eddie, but he shook his head. Eddie held up his still mostly full can. Wayne licked his lips.
“You’ll want to drink more of that,” he muttered.
Eddie did as he was told and it took the edge off of his anxiety but settled sour in his stomach.
“After I got Steve sedated,” Wayne said, “and yes it was fucked up I even had to in the first place, I went a paid the Franklins a visit.”
“That sounds ominous,” Eddie said flatly.
Wayne grinned. “They tried to tell me that they were frightened of Steve. That as a wolf he was much bigger than they were as bats. That all it would take was one snap of his giant jaw and they would be but a morsel to the boy.”
Eddie blinked at his uncle in confusion. “What now? His first change would have been a literal puppy. He wouldn’t have even been able toddle after them, let alone get within biting distance.”
Wayne huffed. “Right in one, boy. And if they had been teaching him from his first change on, he wouldn’t have thought of them as prey at all. Not even on moon nights.”
Eddie rolled his eyes and shook his head.
“And then they tried to attack me,” Wayne continued.
“They did what?” Eddie squawked.
“They probably would have succeeded, too,” he said, “but apparently Steve is a hard wolf to keep down and followed me like a lost puppy. When he saw Dick Franklin raise a fucking yew stake to stab me in the back, Steve leapt on him.”
“Where the fuck did they get a yew stake?”
Wayne just shook his head. “The hell if I know, kid. But in comes this wolf and just snatches the damn thing out of Dick’s hand. He runs off with it Ella Franklin hot on his heels in bat form. Bats are fast and she catches up quickly. The problem is that in or out of bat form she knows she no match for Steve, so she tries to blind him by going for his eyes.”
Eddie’s hand covered his mouth as he listened to him go on about this horrible night.
“But despite what a lot of people think,” Wayne continued, “your boy ain’t dumb. He keeps his head down and makes right for the Creel House. He tosses the thrall on duty the stake and suddenly a werebat is face to face with Tammy Thompson, now holding a yew stake as Steve just continues running past the Coven.”
Eddie blinked. “I didn’t realize that Tammy’s family were thralls.”
“Just like the Perkins, Buckleys, and Hagans are hereditary keepers,” Wayne said with a nod, “the Thompsons, Carmichaels, and Bensons have always been hereditary thralls.”
Eddie was starting to think that he really should have paid closer attention to the hierarchies in school, they were a lot more important than he knew.
“Anywho,” Wayne said with a shake of his head. “Ella flies back to their house to find me beating the hell out of Dick. She manages to distract me long enough for Dick to get on his feet, but now it’s two against one and they’re still strong in their human forms, but wicked fast. I was able to take out Dick, the coward that he was, but Ella was proving to be too fast. She was going to get away.”
Eddie drank the rest of his beer and popped open another one. He leaned forward so that he was on the edge of the sofa, and his knee began to shake.
Wayne put his hand his knee to settle it, but Eddie stared at him wild eyed.
“I don’t have to finish if this bothering, Ed,” he said warmly. “I can give you the Cliffnotes.”
Eddie shook his head. “What happened next?”
“Just as she took flight, the thing they had always feared happened,” he said softly. “Steve’s jaws came down on her with a sickening crunch. Dick started spewing all sorts of curse words and things I didn’t understand. Something about how werewolves were a plague among the Weres and that they had to be exterminated and how if Steve hadn’t had my protection they would have drowned the bastard in the bathtub.”
“What. The. Fuck?” Eddie asked, can crumpling in his fist as it tightened on it.
“It didn’t mean anything until the events going on now,” Wayne said with a heavy sigh. He crumpled his can one handed and stared at the twisted mass. “But I think whoever it is who is trying to tear this community apart is getting desperate. They’re starting to make mistakes. And I think one day soon, this is all going to blow up in our faces.”
Eddie gulped, but nodded.

If I Should Stay
Part 1 | . . . | Part 56 | Part 57 | Part 58
They get out of the Upside Down no problem; it’s a short trek back to the portal, a quick hop through, and soon they’re all stumbling back into the Harrington house.
Steve immediately makes his way to El, who’s in the living room, and scoops her up into a hug. “You did it!” He cheers. “I’m so proud of you, Ellie,” he continues, whispering to her.
“Thank you,” she whispers back, letting her eyes slip shut. “Can I sleep now?”
“Of course you can,” he murmurs, shifting to pick her up. “I’ll bring you up to bed, m’kay?”
She yawns big enough he fears for her jaw. “Your bed?”
“Sure thing, Ellie. Sleep as long as you want, m’kay?”
“M’kay,” she murmurs, letting her head loll back onto his shoulder. He smiles, kisses her forehead, and stands. He smiles wider when he notices her smile.
Eddie appears in front of him, wide-eyed. “She okay?”
“Yeah,” Steve smiles. “Just tired. I’m gonna put her in my room. Wanna help round up the rugrats and figure out food?”
Eddie bites his lip. “About that. Joyce is taking hers home, Nancy’s taking Mike, and Dustin and Lucas have already called their parents for rides. I think Hopper dipped the second he was able.”
Steve snorts. “Sounds about right. You wanna head home too, I guess?”
Eddie shrugs, a smile playing on his lips as he gestures towards Steve’s room, beginning to walk with him. “I could. But I’ll have more time with Wayne. I’m not sure about you.” His smile falls. “Another thing we haven’t talked about, I guess. And I don’t know if we’ll have time. Maybe after, I don’t know. But I’ve got time with you now, I guess is what I’m trying to say?” He hides behind a piece of hair.
Steve glances down at El, confirming she’s still asleep, then pecks Eddie’s cheek. “I’d like you to stay,” he murmurs. “If you want to.”
Eddie’s eyes crinkle. “I’ll go tell Wayne.”
He leaves, and Steve continues the walk upstairs. “Steve?” A small voice asks, and he looks down.
“Yeah, Ellie?”
“You and Eddie are good together, I think.”
He smiles at her. “I’d like to think so, too.”
He tucks her in and finds Robin waiting outside his door. “Hey.” He smiles and tucks her under his arm. “What’s up?”
She looks up at him. “It’s really over?”
He sighs, looks away, runs a hand through his hair. “I mean. I hope so? Vecna’s gone at least. And I’ll tell Alli to make me apply to Scoops if the mall gets built, if that helps. If we’re not friends in this time when we go back to our time. Damn, this is confusing.” He sighs again. “I dunno, Robbie. But I really think it is over.”
Robin hums, leans into him. “I hope so.” She sighs too. “It just feels like we’re waiting for the next shoe to drop.”
“I know.” He turns, pulls her into a real hug. “Wanna stay over?”
“Is Eddie gonna?”
“I can send him home. You take precedence here.”
She gives him a small smile. “Love you, Dingus.”
“Love you too, Robbie.” He squeezes her. “What about it? You, me, rocky road ice cream?”
She chuckles. “How about a big sleepover? The three of us?”
“Or maybe the four of us?” Allison pokes her head around the corner, teasing smile in place. “Or am I not cool enough to hang out with you?”
Steve chuckles. “You’re cooler than I am, Alli. Of course you can join.” He suddenly points at both of them. “But I want no joking or whispering if Eddie and I do anything, alright?”
Robin gasps. “But Steve! What about my delicate lesbian sensibilities?”
Steve rolls. “You’re raunchier than I am, Robs.”
She snorts inelegantly. “Yeah, alright. Just nothing too PG-13-rated, okay?”
Steve turns pleading eyes on his sister. “Alli?”
She narrows her eyes at him. “We won’t say anything about kissing with no tongue. Anything else is fair game.”
“I wouldn’t do anything else with you in the room,” he retorts, then sticks a hand out. “Shake on it.”
She smirks. “Pleasure doing business with you.”
Steve makes a face and wipes his hand on his pants. “Don’t make me sound like Dad!”
Allison cackles. “Your face! Oh my god, that was great.” She ruffles his hair. “We won’t say anything as long as it’s just a little kiss, alright?”
Steve rolls his eyes. “And if we end up talking about us? About what we’re doing?”
Allison tilts her head. “Would you want us there? As a sounding board?”
Steve shrugs helplessly. “Kinda? But I feel like this is something we should do on our own, too.”
Allison exchanges a look with Robin. “I think it’s time to teach you the ways of being a woman, Steve. We share everything with each other. Especially this stuff. It can be really helpful to have a sounding board.”
Steve eyes her. “Even if you’re biased?”
“We’ll do our best to stay unbiased,” Robin promises. “Deal?”
He grins and squeezes her again. “Deal.”

There are days when Steve wakes up and he hates his body. Looks in the mirror, disgusted, at the scars across his torso and neck, the stretch marks on his stomach and hips. How his thighs rub up against each other when he walks, how they expand when he sits down. Pulls meanly at the chub that’s accumulated at his tummy and chest.
After the upside down, after everything, Steve gained weight.
Eddie says it’s because he wasn’t constantly in fight-or-flight mode anymore, and his body was finally able to relax.
Robin says it’s because he was destined to have a bit of a dad bod, that it was just the ruling of the universe.
He still works out though. He’s in great shape too. Goes on a few-mile-long run every morning. lifts three times a week. The only thing he’d strongly refused was dieting.
Steve remembers how his mother would come home from her trips with his father, her cheeks gaunt and pale even through her makeup. Her thin frame hidden by a ridiculously expensive shawl.
How she used to sit him down and force him to separate “good foods” from “bad foods”.
How there were never any sweets in the house.
Back when Steve was young enough to need a nanny while his parents were away, he would beg and plead with her to just let him try one piece of candy. One lick of a lollipop. The closest he ever got was three dark chocolate baking chips.
Afterward, when he was left alone, when he was responsible for feeding himself and getting groceries, he would stand in the produce section for fifteen minutes, his mother's voice ringing in his head.
The first time he went to a movie and bought himself a soda and popcorn, he had to leave halfway through to cry.
The first time he had real candy, he almost had a panic attack.
It took him way too long to reteach himself about food, how to remember that food is food and food is fuel. That he should be listening to his body and eating what he wants when he’s hungry.
And here’s the thing. Steve knows that he’s the healthiest he’s ever been. Sees it in Mrs. Henderson’s eyes when he drops Dustin off, how he no longer hears her fussing about him being too skinny.
In Joyce’s smile when he gets up for seconds of his own cooking.
In Hopper and Wayne’s approving ‘dad nods’ when they all sit down over meat from the grill.
So on those days, when Steve wakes up and doesn’t feel like he’s right, he tries to remember that instead.
How Robin curled up against him one movie night, pausing before stating decisively, “You’re softer now dingus. It’s nice. Gives me the best pillow.”
How El will give him hugs that are tight tight tight and tell him he looks like a teddy bear she used to have.
How Eddie will absolutely worship him.
If that man could die beneath Steve, he would. Is far too obsessed with the way Steve’s ass moves.
They’ll get home from hanging out with the Party and Eddie won’t wait a single second before shoving Steve against the wall, mouthing at his neck.
How he pushes Steve onto the bed against his stomach, his face rubbing against the sheets as he braces his hands on Steve’s thighs in a way that causes bruises. Fucks his tongue into him, slow and sinful, telling him, “Go on sweetheart. That’s it, just like that. Doin’ so good for me.”  How Eddie moans like Steve is ambrosia from the gods and Eddie can do nothing but lap at their fountain.
How afterward, after steady thrusts and cries of each others’ names and the cooling of dried come, Eddie will cradle Steve close to his chest. Will whisper, “Love you so much, sweetheart. You’re it for me.” How he’ll sing him Head Over Heels by Tears for Fears, because as much as he preaches about hating the conformist bullshit and the top forty hits, he loves to see his boy happy, wiggling in Eddie’s arms as he sings Steve’s favorite song.

Summary
The mall is destroyed. El’s lost her powers. Billy’s dead. So is Hopper. Steve is probably fucked up mentally for life, but what else is new? Steve has a pretty good thing going. He has kids to take care of, an awkward lesbian to advise. Max needs a big brother. Hawkins is his home, and Steve can’t just leave. Not while he’s still needed. He knows one day he won’t be. But for now, it’s enough. Or: the Harringtons sell their house before the real estate market goes belly-up. Hawkins has been going downhill for years, anyway. His parents give Steve a choice: move with them and finally take that job at his dad’s company or get left behind. For Steve, it wasn’t much of a choice at all. He may not have a house anymore, but his BMW’s backseat has served as a bed plenty of times already. No one has to know. The party has enough problems to worry about. Or: Eddie Munson worms his way into Steve’s sorry little life months before Vecna rears his ugly head. Or: Steve Harrington, a character study.

Part 8 of Vegas AU that now has a name!! Thank you again @hbyrde36 💜
Betting It All On Love
Steve and Eddie did eventually get to talk more about family, laid sweaty and sated on the floor of Eddie’s bedroom. Steve wasn't entirely sure how they'd ended up sprawled out on the plush carpet, he knew full well it’d give him a three-day backache, but he couldn't find it in himself to give a shit. Not when his head was happily pillowed on Eddie’s chest, listening to the reverberations as much as Eddie’s voice as he told him about his childhood.
A doting mother tragically lost to childbirth. The enormous amount of guilt Eddie had carried for years because he’d been the one begging his parents for a sibling and when Al came home from the hospital alone, all he'd said was “the baby killed your mother” as though it was Eddie’s fault. A jailbird good-for-nothing father, incapable of putting anything, including his own child, before his imbecilic impulses and when Al had been sentenced to the rest of Eddie's childhood behind bars, Wayne had been willing to be separated from his husband and his kid if that had been what Eddie needed.
Of growing up with his uncles and his cousin, of their siblinglike bond, of never really missing his father when he had the two best dads in the whole world. The whole Munson-Clarke clan had started out in Hawkins, Scott and Wayne only choosing to leave when they’d decided they wanted Charlie. Mainly because they knew that their relationship was tolerated as two bachelors living under the same roof, but that the town would find it much less tolerable when they started raising a child together. That Scott had still never had the heart to leave his post at the school, because who else was going to teach kids the real facts and not the made-up ones the rest of the faculty were happy to go along with.
Steve confessed to being envious of them, of listening to Scott tell tales that started "This weekend my partner and I took our kids..." and wishing he could be one of them. Of getting to know Scott the man not just the teacher and the guilt he felt over the fact that he could've walked into Eddie's life long ago if only things had been different.
Eddie just hummed softly and pointed out that they’d known each other all along, that they had in fact gone to the same kindergarten and were actually friends once upon a time because Eddie had always had a tendency for strays and Steve had not been a confident child. He had spent the first two lunches sitting miserably alone on the swings before Eddie had waltzed over and commanded that Steve wasn't allowed to be sad any more because from then on they were best friends and best friends didn’t let best friends be sad.
They were back in bed by the time he told Eddie about his lonely childhood in a giant, empty house. About the string of nannies, about Sarah, his au pair from England who always spoke softly and smiled brightly and sung sweetly, who made cookies with him and taught him to swim, who left abruptly in the middle of the night, leaving a behind a white teddy bear and a promise that she loved him very much and that it wasn't his fault she had to leave.
A wife who couldn't trust her husband as far as she could throw him, jet-setting around the world to make sure the only thing he was doing was his job. Never bothering with Steve and only really making an effort to make sure he had someone to take care of him until sweet old Mrs Johnson had died in their living room the Friday they had left for their business trip. And because Steve had managed to deal with finding her cold lifeless body and fended for himself for the rest of the weekend, that had somehow proven to two grown adults that an nine-year-old boy didn't need taking care of any more.
What his parents never realised was, that was the first time Hopper had taken care of him. Steve had eaten and slept and was well groomed because he'd spent the weekend at the cabin, playing with El and climbing trees, trying to catch butterflies and getting covered in mud, all the things he was never allowed to do at home. He'd only really stopped going to Hop's during his parents absence when he'd become close with Tommy, who'd convinced him his life was great because he had unsupervised time to himself, so he could do whatever he wanted. Except all Steve had wanted was to spend time with other people, be near their noise and constant movement, just something, anything to fill the silent emptiness.
Christmases and holidays that were spent alone or getting into trouble with people who called themselves his friends, until the day Hop had said enough and hadn't taken no for an answer. Then he'd become The Babysitter, which had led him to Dustin and Claudia, a mom and a baby brother to add to his weird little found family. Who'd recommended Steve as a babysitter for Holly, where he'd properly met Nancy who had no interest in children, but that hadn't stopped him wanting to marry her, until she called him and their relationship bullshit of course.
Then he'd rebounded with Billy in the locker room showers, where he'd had the fastest sexuality crisis of all time when Billy had caught him staring and instead of punching him when his back had hit the tiled wall like he'd assumed, Billy had stuck his tongue in his mouth instead.
When Steve hadn't got the grades to get into college, and he lost out on a scholarship when Billy tripped him in the championship game because while he was tying his shoelace he was supposedly looking up one of the cheerleader's skirts, he assumed he'd stick around Hawkins until El and Dust graduated, but Billy had insisted he moved to the city with him. Made it sound like some fairytale dream, like their happily ever after, and it was great, until it wasn't. Until he’d finally had enough of being used and cheated on, which led him into the arms of his platonic soulmate who lived in the apartment across the hall, who rescued him not only from Billy but from himself.
It felt good to lay in the safe little bubble he always felt in Eddie’s presence and let it all out, even as they mourned for the little boys they once were, they were equally able to console one another, and Steve felt a weight finally lift off his shoulders.
Robin knew, in the way she knew everything, they’d always had heart-to-heart's but it wasn’t quite the same she needed to make jokes when a topic got too heavy, desperately had to inject some lightness into the dark.
But not Eddie, he listened and nodded solemnly, cried with him, teardrops leaking silently down his face and into his hair and when they were finished talking, he injected Steve full of the affection he’d been sorely missing, pressing kisses into every inch of his skin, squeezing their hands together, their wedding bands slotting neatly against one another, putting him back together in a way no one else had ever been able to.
By the time the sun was poking in around the heavy gold curtains, Steve had never felt closer to anyone than he had with Eddie, despite his earlier reservations he’d never had anyone he’d told everything to, never had anyone he’d wanted to, but it felt so easy to talk to him, like he understood, and maybe he did in a weird way. And as he turned his head slightly to look into Eddie’s eyes glistening in the slithers of early morning light, Steve knew he’d never felt so deeply for another human being. He opened his mouth to speak, trying to translate all he was feeling and thinking into coherent words, but it didn’t take him long to give up. The only words that wanted to flow easily out of his chest were far too big to say yet, or maybe not too big to say precisely, just too big to be heard.
Eddie raised his eyebrows expectantly, patiently waiting for Steve to say whatever he needed to, but he couldn’t say it, it’d break them if he did, and he felt selfishly like he desperately just needed to keep their bubble of protection and delusion for a little while longer, so he shut his mouth with a tiny shake of his head, a silent “never mind”, pushing closer into Eddie, translating all he was feeling into deep kisses and gentle caresses, silently loving Eddie as hard as he could and convincing his hormone flooded brain the feeling was mutual as they both eventually fell asleep happily tangled up in the blankets and one another.
It'd been years since Steve had last slept as deeply and as well as he had being Eddie's little spoon, even though they hadn't actually slept very much at all, he couldn't remember the last time he woke up feeling actually awake. Honestly, he wasn’t all that pleased about it, he was having a lovely dream of being somewhere tropical, the sounds of seagulls and crashing waves morphing into the dull thudding of Robin pounding on their door, shouting for Eddie, whose only possible offence could be snoring too loudly given he was still sound asleep.
"Ed!" bang bang bang "Eds!" bang bang bang "Eddie!" bang bang bang "Dorkus! You need to come out here before he comes in there!"
He? What the?
Steve wiggled out of Eddie's hold, leaving him to sleep peacefully, slipped on Eddie's boxers (mainly because he didn't know where his own were) and opened the bedroom door, gently pushing his best friend back into the living space. "What's going on?" he asked gruffly, only registering what was happening when Robin gestured towards the front door, where Chrissy was physically trying to keep someone out, Sorry, we were expecting room service” she muttered as he moved instinctively towards the door.
The altercation only lasted for another second before Chrissy was shoved unceremoniously backwards into the room, only managing to keep her balance thanks to her years of training; Dan Carver practically flying the three feet into the living room as he tripped over his own feet and lost his balance, having the nerve to give Chrissy a dirty look as though it was her fault he was acting like a moron. Steve was immediately furious, felt his spine straighten and his face harden as he looked down at the idiot laying by his feet as he tried his hardest to keep a lid on his temper, he knew getting arrested for punching the dickhead wouldn't help anything.
Carver clambered to his feet, smoothing the lapels of his suit jacket as though the immaculate carpeting might’ve tainted it. He looked Steve up and down, narrowing in on Eddie’s boxers slung low on his hips, "Harrington!” he screeched indignantly, “So it's true?” Dan demanded to know, starting to pace the length of the sofa like a caged animal, "I thought Wheeler was playing some sick joke! But apparently not! So what? You two were fucking behind my back the whole time?" he accused, flailing his arms around as he yelled.
A derisive laugh crawled up Steve's throat, thanking his lucky stars that even when he was manic with rage, his poker face was as strong as ever, "Don't be dense, Carver, it suits you too well!" Steve stated evenly with a snarl.
His bitchy King Steve persona didn’t faze Dan though, not that Steve really expected it to, his family were well known for being a little batshit. Dan just snorted contemptuously and carried on with his diatribe "Well, what am I supposed to think when you come flaunting out here in his underwear?"
Steve raised one eyebrow slowly, the only outward indication he was losing his temper, "So what? Because he moved on faster than you did, that means he was cheating on you?" Steve queried condescendingly. That was a serious leap past logical, even for a Carver.
"Clearly" Dan scoffed as though Steve had just answered his question for him. And just the insinuation that Dan wanted to blame Eddie, that he wanted to assume Eddie just had Steve waiting in the wings, that Dan was accusing Eddie of being anything like Billy was making Steve's blood boil.
Steve sucked his teeth trying to keep himself calm, sucking in a rapid breath through his nose and rolling out his neck, towering further over Dan, "Okay, firstly, some rules," Steve instructed, "you always did need them," he muttered under his breath, it seemed to be the first time Carver even registered that he was in danger, looking up at Steve with wide eyes. "Do not, under any circumstance, insult my husband! Just because you made brainless life choices does not give you the right to disrespect him. Secondly, apologise to Chrissy!" Steve demanded, his voice as hard and cold as ice, pointing over to where Chrissy was being comforted by a visibly furious Robin on the couch, like he was scolding a particularly naughty child.
Dan’s whole body sagged, his shoulders slumping, his head bowed, muttering an apology to his feet. And yeah, Dan might be regretting all the choices he’s made in the past hour, but Steve was still fuming and King Steve wasn't one to back down until he was done tearing his victim apart, "And thank her for not having your ass thrown in jail for assaulting her," he barked as a command, because as if by his almost thirties he still didn’t understand that forcing someone bodily out of the way was most definitely not okay. Self-entitled brat! Steve thought, and then Finish him!! which sounded alarmingly like Tommy.
Steve didn’t really want to give himself too long to think about that, sucking in another breath and carrying on regardless, "Thirdly, who the hell gave you the right to come barging in here? Newsflash, buddy, you gave up your right to know anything about Eddie's life when you humiliated him in front of your nightmare family!" Steve was starting to yell, his voice raising and becoming less and less steady because the mere thought of the way Dan had broken up with Eddie made him so viscerally angry not even King Steve could contain it.
He took a deep breath, trying desperately to cling to the last of his control, purposefully lowering his voice back to normal, "But a quick FYI, I met Eddie less than 72 hours ago, and he's already the greatest person I've ever met! He's twice the man you've ever been, so don't you dare even try to blame him! You and your pretentious, ignorant, backward, dipwad family were lucky to even know him. You're fortunate he ever graced you with his presence and treated you all with the kindness and care none of you deserved, but I know he gave out in spades because that's just the kind of man he is. I don't know who the fu-"
"Steve," Eddie interrupted quietly, finally emerging from the bedroom, holding up one of the hotel's luxuriously fluffy dressing gowns, wrapping Steve up in it as he wandered over to him.
Steve deflated at Eddie’s gentle touch, "Sorry," Steve muttered, all the fury he'd felt towards Dan dissipating in the hold of Eddie's gaze.
Eddie smiled softly at him, tucking a stray bit of hair back behind Steve’s ear. Flicking his gaze quickly over Steve's shoulder, his expression hardening before he glanced back at Steve, "D'ya mind?" Eddie asked quietly, his eyes roaming all over Steve's face.
It was obvious what Eddie was asking, so obvious that Robin was already waiting by the front door with her hand outstretched, she already knew this was going to be a tough walk back to their room. Steve swallowed hard past the lump already forming in his throat, "No, of course not. I'll just..." Steve muttered, gesturing towards Robin. Eddie smiled gratefully, nodding. Steve hoped it meant he'd see him later, but he couldn’t know for sure.
Chrissy crossed the room, wrapping Eddie in a tight hug, "Do you?" she asked, the "want me to stay" unnecessary.
Eddie smiled gratefully at her but shook his head, "Nah, babe. I got this!" he sounded so determined, Steve was proud of him, even if this meant the end of their relationship, he wanted Eddie to have whatever he wanted, wanted him to be strong enough to reach out with both hands and take it.
Chrissy cupped his face, "Yes. You do!" she told him, the best friends having a quick eye conversation before she nodded sharply and let go, heading out of the suite.
Dan still hadn’t stopped staring at his feet, "Sorry," Dan muttered again as she passed him by.
Chrissy didn't even bother to answer, just gave him the finger and followed the other two out the door towards the stairs.
Both girls took each of Steve's hands as they ambled down the corridor, Robin making sure to be careful of his tattoo. Neither of them said anything as they headed downstairs, not that there was anything they could say to make it hurt any less, but he felt their comfort as they walked with him in silence.
Luckily, Robin had thought to shove their room key into her dressing gown and as soon as she let him in, he flopped face down on his bed, tears already leaking from his eyes. The girls to curled up together on Robin's bed, giving him the space Robin knew he was asking for, wrapping her and Chrissy in the blankets and putting on a movie. No one even spoke for a good few hours, Steve spent the endless time either sleeping, listening to snippets of film, crying silently or obsessively wondering what Eddie would do now his ex was back and clearly mad with jealousy.
Time passed as Steve flowed in and out of consciousness, he recognised at least two lines from two distinctly different films, both of Robin’s favourites, but he’d no idea how long they stayed, wasting away the precious hours of their holiday while Steve wallowed. Consciousness flowed back to him with the ringing of the phone, Robin fumbling for the receiver and her quiet “Hello? Dust, now isn’t a good time. No, we haven’t been shopping yet. It's a book Dusty, how badly can you need it. Well, if Steve promised, then he’ll get it for you, won’t he? For some reason, he can’t say no to you,” she muttered into the phone like she didn’t know Steve would die for the kid.
Steve pushed himself upright, holding out his hand to question whether Robin wanted him to take his little brother off her hands, “Your mum around?” she asked instead holding up a finger in a wait-a-minute gesture, “Dust. Dusty. Dustin! Words cannot express how little I care about Dork-dom or its robots! Put. Your. Mother. On. The. Phone,” she insisted, placing the warmed, hard plastic into Steve’s palm and wrapping his numb fingers around it.
He just about managed to get the phone to his ear, as Claudia answered with a cheery, “Hello?” A sob crawling out of Steve’s throat uninvited, his vision quickly blurring Robin sitting on the bed opposite him. “Steve?” Claudia asked, her voice immediately filled with concern, and it breaks him entirely; instead of the faux cheerful greeting he’d intended, what actually comes out of his mouth is a broken whine that sounds distinctly like “Mom!”, followed by another sob as Steve tries desperately to suck air into his lungs. “Steven, honey, what’s wrong?”
And where to start? It had all gone so horribly wrong. A few hours previously he was terribly stupidly in love and now… “Everything,” Steve whined, his voice catching before he could even finish the word. He can’t even remember the last time he felt so miserable, all he wanted was to curl up in his mom's embrace.
Claudia sighed heavily, like she was miserable because he was, “Oh, honey, do you need us to come? We’ll come. Don’t worry baby, it’ll be alright,” Claudia cooed softly, removing the phone slightly away from herself as she yelled, “DUSTIN!”
And it was as if the noise slapped Steve around the face, like being doused in cold water, quickly snapping him out of his funk and straight into a panic because if Claud came, she’d bring Dustin AND Hopper. And the last thing any of them needed was for Hop to end up in a Vegas prison because Steve was being dramatic over his own stupidity. Eddie didn't owe him anything and if being with Dan is what he wanted and what would make him happy then that was really all Steve cared about.
“No!” he blurted out as she was halfway through giving Dustin instructions on packing bags and going to the neighbours to ask Mrs Jones if she’d be okay to look after Mews. He could practically see Claudia’s eyebrows raising in the way she always did whenever Dustin was being a little shit, the whole “Excuse me! Who raised you?” look; it brings a slight smile to his face for the first time since he woke up that morning.
“Sorry, I just… I mean… I don’t need you guys to come, honestly, I’ll be okay. Robin’s here, and I’m just being silly. Really,” Steve admitted, and he heard Claudia’s unconvinced hum, so he does his best to explain what happened. She didn't speak once, listening intently and just sighs heavily when he was finished, muttering a few expletives and “those bloody Carvers!” under her breath. By the end of the call, she promised to stay home, and he promised to call and when Dustin started whining because he wasn’t going to get to go to Vegas after all, she tells him how much they love him and hangs up to deal with her youngest.
Steve tried to lean forward to put the receiver down and realised he can’t move. Chrissy was tucked under his spare arm holding him tightly around his middle and Robin was wrapped around his back, her face smushed into his shoulder blade, and he had no idea when they moved, but he was so very grateful for them. Except Steve's bladder was demanding that he move, so he pats Robin’s arm and squeezes Chris’ hand where she’s got his wrapped securely in both of hers and slouched off to the bathroom with a grunted hum when Robin asked if he was sure he was alright.
He caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror above the sink and realised he didn't look as bad as he thought he would. He looked rough, but given how he was feeling it wasn't exactly surprising. Realising he was still wearing Eddie's pants wasn't fun, it made him feel simultaneously glum yet consoled like being wrapped in Eddie’s embrace but, at the same time, like it might be the last one he ever received.
He didn't know why he was catastrophising the situation, why he was so convinced Eddie would go back to Dan. It wasn't like Eddie had been particularly pleased to see him. It was just, Steve knew he hadn't been his best self when he'd laid into Carver, but people from his King Steve days always seemed to bring out the worst in him.
And he knew how convincing Carver's could be. He'd been in debate classes with Dan, and he'd been to every one of Lucas' ball games, Jason had the gift of the gab too and sure all they had were manipulation tactics, but that didn't mean they didn't work.
But he also knew deep in his gut that he wasn’t giving Eddie enough credit, that convincing himself Eddie would go running back to someone who treat him like shit would be suggesting Eddie hadn’t seen how toxic their relationship had become, and how happy he’d been since he’d become single; even if he hadn’t been exactly thrilled about the way the relationship ended.
Steve tried to focus on the positives instead, he'd had an incredible few days with Eddie as his husband and if that was all he was destined for, he would think himself lucky for it. Eddie deserved to shape his life however he wanted to and if that meant a life without Steve, well it would be agony, but Eddie would be happy and that was all Steve could ask for.
And Chrissy was incredible, even though they'd shared a similar upbringing she hadn't let it change her. She was one of the most beautiful people he'd ever met, with her natural warmth that just drew people in and a megawatt smile that naturally made others grow. She was so strong and gutsy, he admired her so much, and he looked forward to getting to know her better. And he knew she and Robin would continue to work well together, they were like yin and yang, like two different pieces of a jigsaw puzzle that fit perfectly, and Steve couldn't be happier for them.
He hoped they were destined for a long and happy life together, he hoped he’d get to stand up at their wedding and talk about how they met and what a joy it was to watch their love blossom. He hoped Eddie would be by his side but if he wasn't, he wouldn't make them choose, he loved Robin too much to do that to her. Steve could just help with the planning, that was the important part, after all, no one got to spend any real time with brides on their wedding day anyway.
Not that Steve was spiralling or anything.
He was about to leave the bathroom when he heard the girls whispering loudly to one another, neither of them seeming to realise that in such a small space, the bathroom door wasn't much of a sound barrier. Not really wanting to interrupt, he started the shower. He needed to be done with his maudlin mood, they only had a few days left of their vacation, and he wasn’t about to waste any more of it.
He could cry over getting his heart broken when Sam sorted out the divorce paperwork. In the meantime, he could enjoy the rest of Nevada. He stepped under the hot spray with a sigh, the cascade of water had always been a sure-fire way for him to clear his head, a way to cleanse his mind as well as his body. It was odd going through his usual routine one-handed, but if nothing else he’d always have Rachel, his aptly named tattoo, to remind him that for a few days out of his life he’d had and been a husband.
Feeling refreshed and slightly less morose, he stepped out into the bedroom, surprised to find Chrissy missing. Less surprised by Robin launching clothing at him, "Get dressed, dingus! We're going out," she informed him as she stormed past him into the bathroom, not bothering to close the door behind her.
He spent a few moments standing on the spot, grinning wildly to himself, she really was the best friend anyone could ask for. She knew if it were up to him, he'd sit in the room and fret about Eddie and his potentially ending relationship for hours, she knew he needed a distraction and that he needed to have no way to wiggle out of it.
He might've had to go through hell to find her but it was so, so worth it. She was a true marvel, and he could only hope she knew how much he loved and appreciated her.

Claudia Henderson Adopts Steve Snippet
You ever have to be reminded you can fucking post snippets on Tumblr? Lmao anyway Steve deserves real parents and so help me if it isn’t Claudia, Hopper or Wayne I will scream.
Claudia Henderson was many things. Busy, distracted, prone to stress eating  and trying hard to forget about her crumbling marriage.
What she wasn’t, was absent.
Not like her husband was.
Not like Steve Harrington’s parents were.
That entire business at the Starcourt mall. All those kids wrapped up in blankets, crying just as hard as their families as they huddled together and yet there stood Steve; her son's favorite babysitter and without a doubt the only good male role model in his life.
Alone.
“Oh. My ah, my parents are out of town, Mrs. Henderson.” He said, covered in blood and sweat.
She’d spotted him after she had hugged Dustin to her and had her fuss, making absolutely sure he was okay. “I’ll be alright.”
The smile he’d given her was pained, too tired for him to hide it the way he likely thought he was.
“Steve’s parents are always out of town, mom.” Dustin had muttered into her side, quietly, and she rapidly reframed several similar comments Dustin had made, when Steve had picked him up to do this or that, watch him for her then refuse cash.
“And they won’t be in tonight?” She clarified, tone demanding an answer.
Steve responded to it like any good teenager should. “No ma’am.”
“Alright then.” She reached out the arm not currently holding on to Dustin, made a “come here” gesture. “You’re staying with us.”
Steve blinked rapidly, protested. Put up the saddest, politest little fight she had ever seen, because there was no way she could call herself a good mother while walking away, knowing the young man who had undoubtedly helped save her little boy was going to go home to a dark and empty house.
Claudia pulled out the only weapon she’d ever needed when Steve seemed unwilling to back down.
The Mom Voice.
She pointed at Steve. “Enough of that, Steven.” She commanded. “You’re coming home. You both need a shower.”
She had been pleased to note that he fell victim to it as fast as Dustin did.
(It did not escape her notice that Steve’s parents had never shown up. So she simply slotted herself into his life. “A bonus mom!” she said, and pretended not to see the poor teen tear up.
Made sure she had their guest room made up for him, and demanded he come see her at least twice a week for dinner. She had even managed to get ahold of a picture of him during his graduation, putting it up proudly on her fridge.
He was in it now in fact. Had stayed with her and Dustin since the hospital had released him.
This time she was pleased to note, he hadn't put up a fight.

For Eddie's whole life people had said he looked like his dad. He hated it, he didn't want to look like his dad , he didn't want to be anything like his dad. He didn't want his nose or his eyes or his chin, he didn't want to know how to hotwire a car or run from police.
He wished he looked like his mum, he wished he had her strawberry blonde hair or her green eyes or her freckles. He wished he knew how to make bird calls or paint the sunrise. He wished people looked at him and saw his mum and not a criminal.
Wayne wished Eddie could've grown up without the influence of his brother. He wished he could've taken Mary and Eddie and taken them far away. Maybe then Mary would still be here, maybe Eddie wouldn't look older than he is.
Eddie didn't look in the mirror anymore, the vision of his dad growing clearer as he aged. Soon Eddie would be the age his dad was when he was born, how could someone his age hurt a little kid?
He's meeting Steve's parents today, well not the Harrington's, Steve's real parents in all the good parts of the word. Joyce and Hopper have invited everyone over now that the house is finished and Steve wants to introduce him as his boyfriend.
It terrifies Eddie, he's had runins with Hopper before, what if hopper tells Steve he shouldn't see Eddie? He's heard a lot about Joyce and knows she's sweet and kind but what if she thinks he's a bad influence on Steve and the kids? What if she thinks he's just like his dad?
Steve holds his hand as he introduces them. Joyce smiles and pulls Eddie into a hug which surprises him but not as much as what she says.
"You look just like you uncle."
Eddie had never heard that before but it fills his heart with joy. He's not his dad.
"You know, Wayne went to school with Jim and I, lovely boy, almost took me to prom, how's he doing?"
Steve watches fondly as Eddie and Joyce talk about a younger Wayne. Eddie isn't like his dad at all, he's like his uncle, sweet, kind and full of love.

Using the new Casting Announcement and website, I compiled Family Trees for the Stranger Things families. Some things I noticed:
1) Bob Newby’s sister is Black. His mother is not mentioned, but his father is white. Maybe she was adopted? Why is she never brought up in the show? Was there a contentious relationship between Patty and Bob?
2) Bob Newby’s father was a Priest. They call him Father Newby. We know religion plays a huge part in this story, so I’m interested to see how this storyline plays out. Makes Joyce and Bob’s relationship that much more interesting. There’s a promo shot of a little girl seemingly trapped inside a church, placing her hand on a window. Maybe it’s Patty (Bob’s sister) or Alice Creel? Did Father Newby have something to do with the Upside Down? Did he know Brenner? What happened to him? I had no idea they were going to focus so much on this family. Makes me so angry they killed off Bob!
3) Eddie’s father’s name was Allen, but his mother is not mentioned. How did an abusive, neglectful man end up alone with his son? Did Eddie’s mother die or leave them? Was Eddie trafficked across state lines? We know Allen is incarcerated, but Eddie doesn’t elaborate on why. Did he kill his wife, leaving Eddie and him on the run until he was eventually found and charged? Is that when Wayne stepped up?We know Wayne is not fond of his brother so, whatever Allen did must have been awful.
4) Claudia Henderson and Virginia Creel are both listed with their married names, whereas Sue (Anderson) Sinclair, Karen (Childress) Wheeler, and Joyce (Maldonado) Byers are listed with their maiden names. Did the church (Father Newby) not approve of their marriages. What does it mean?!
5) Hopper is a Junior and his father was also Police Chief. Was he killed in the line of duty? We know from Hopper’s monologue in Russia that his father was verbally abusive and made Hopper feel he had to prove himself, thus he ended up in Vietnam. Is that why Hopper took over the Chief position, to continue his father’s legacy? Maybe if he became Chief, his father would be proud? Also, his wife, Diane, is not mentioned. They had Sarah together before she died. We don’t know what happened to Diane or where she went/came from. Sarah’s life and death are such crucial parts of Hopper’s life, it would make sense to include them. Unless Diane and Sarah never existed—another case of falsified memories. This is getting trippy.
6) Alice Creel is not mentioned in the cast, but I added her because she’s a part of Henry’s story. Did she not exist? Is Karen Wheeler the actual Alice Creel as some have speculated? Is that why she had her own Season 4 poster?
7) Steve’s parents are not mentioned, though I really wish they were! I want to know more about this boy and his family. Is his father really a loser? Did he abuse Steve? What do they do for a living? Tell me!!!
8) Terry Ives (Eleven’s supposed birth mother) is not mentioned. She and Becky (Terry’s sister) were always an interesting duo to me. Why not include her if she birthed one of the most important people to our story…unless she didn’t. I’ve always said Terry is not El’s mother, but I won’t get into all that right now. This only solidified my theory that El and Will were twins separated at birth, but the memories were changed. They look too much alike. If that’s true, it adds a whole new layer to the story. The real Wonder Twins.
Overall, I think these small findings will have major implications for the story, especially Bob’s family. I’m excited to finish out this incredible story and learn the truth about Hawkins!

considering eddie’s band is as big as it is and the fact he wrote a song abt chrissy and is dating steve so you think anyone from hawkins has put together that ed levy is eddie munson?
so in “all the missing girls”, i posited that they solve the vecna murders + hopper returning from the dead with a serial killer storyline, with eddie having been a witness/kidnap victim of the killer. in “remarkable”, i think a similar thing happens.
there are some changes for remarkable tho: eddie is very badly injured when he gets whisked away and is in a hospital for something like a month before he gets released, which is when he gets moved to the ‘burgh with wayne. the shady government folks covering up the lab bullshit put out a statement to the effect of the above (serial killer, eddie got kidnapped, hopper’s a hero who killed the serial killer, etc etc) — and the people in hawkins, used to a bunch of bullroar by now, grumble but accept it.
the shady government folks give eddie a new last name when they relocate, just because there are some people who still don’t quite believe it but also because it helps the cover story — he was a victim, there may have been a partner, all that crap. (jason def gets implicated as an accomplice but it’s one of those never proven things since he’s missing but presumed dead after ye old hawkins earthquake.)
when eddie starts getting truly famous (first grammy nom with METALHEAD), he usually implies that he’s from pittsburgh (though he never outright says it) and it’s genuinely several years into his career that anyone actually puts the dots together. also his government handlers (who naturally despair of him) are like okay let’s make sure we have a perfect cover story for when this ultimately blows up in our faces down the line. and by this time lucas has already told his parents eddie went into witsec so they just roll with that — they say he’s no longer in danger, he’s free to do whatever, go forth and make music. but like don’t totally out us on the news about the alternate dimension stuff, they say; eddie’s like “imma make a weird album about it and people will think i’m an artistic genius, don’t worry, no one thinks it’s real.”
meanwhile, “chrissy’s song” has the inadvertent consequence of buying him a ton of goodwill from chrissy’s high school best friends; he quietly reaches out to them in the early 90s and starts a scholarship in her name that helps lgbtqia identifying kids get out of bad situations. he prefers to be a silent partner in this, and, again, it’s not until later (i’m thinking around the “when suffering grows a garden” article — so fully 2001) that people actually realize that ed levy is eddie munson, the escaped last victim of the indiana reaper.
also while he does discuss steve in interviews, he typically doesn’t mention his last name; some people back in hawkins think it’s the harrington kid but steve’s private and so is eddie in a lot of respects — by the time they’re together they both don’t go out a lot and prefer to be homebodies. also steve changes his last name after he and eddie have officially been dating for two years, which throws people too.
(there’s a buzz feed unsolved about hawkins in the mid 10s; eddie gets interviewed and gives the performance of his LIFE convincing the world nothing weird at all was going on, it was just a serial killer. dustin has a fake emmy made for him; eddie keeps it above the toilet in the en suite bathroom of his and steve’s seattle summer house.)

an au idea has been beamed into my brain and I Have to write it
Eddie will always be grateful for his Uncle Wayne. The man is practically a saint. He took Eddie in, adopted him, gave him his last name. He didn't have to. His aunt could have raised him but she needed to focus on his mom and Wayne taking him in was the best way to help all of them. Uncle Wayne would even regularly take him to visit mom even though it was hard for both of them. It was always hard to see her like that but Wayne always said that he should be able to see his Mama. He's the best parent a kid could ask for but Eddie still sometimes thinks back to before, Back when his mom could still be a mom.
She had been a great mom when he was little. Caring, fun, smart as a whip. things started to change after his dad was drafted. Obviously she worried about dad and she was heartbroken when he died but she was still mostly herself then. Finding out she was pregnant was the first time Eddie could remember his mom seeming truly happy after dad died. She was so excited to be having a little girl. She let Eddie help pick out decorations for the nursery, when she was further along she would let Eddie press his little hands to her tummy to feel his baby sister kick and would laugh at the look of awe on his face every time. But then his baby sister died before he even got to meet her and mom was never the same. She could never accept it. For years she insisted that his baby sister was out there and she was going to get her back. Then one day she was just kind of gone? Physically she was there still but mentally she was far far away. So Wayne took him in.
He wonders what his life would have been like if she had been able to handle it all differently. Been able to stay herself through her losses or better yet, if his baby sister had lived. He's always imagined what his baby sister would have been like. Would she have been a sweet little angel? A tiny teror like him? Would they have been close? Would she have deep brown eyes like him or hazel like their mom? His same riot of curls? He knows for sure he would have loved her. He does Love her.
Despite his deep love for Wayne his mom and baby sister were always in the back of his head. But he couldn't think of any of them right now because the world is fucking ending and monsters are real. He's being blamed for murder of all things! Nancy Wheeler has guns, plural. Steve Harrington is actually a decent dude. And kids, His Kids, His Little Sheep have been dealing with Hell for years. None of it makes sense. The people around him are putting a lot of faith into some supergirl that they can't even get ahold of and everything is just insanity.
But by some miracle they make it through. Steve dragged him out of Hell with just barely enough time to save his life. Little Red has lost most of her vision and will be wheelchair bound for the foreseeable future but she's Alive and that's all that really maters. Apparently supergirl was able to come through, restart Little Red's heart and save the day like everyone believed she would. Chief Hopper is alive and on their side, he managed to clear Eddie's name. Eddie has no idea how any of that worked but he's not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. And now he's just allowed to go home. Well, Steve's home. The trailer was pretty wrecked in the "earthquake" and Steve had offered up some spare rooms for Him and Wayne to stay in until they could get a new place. God why was Steve so fucking Nice?
Steve and the kids have set up a barbeque as a sort of welcome home/Meet the Party/Yay the World didn't End/Debrief thing. It was probably a good idea to meet all his allies and they were planning to tell Wayne everything at the party. And hey, he was finally going to meet this supergirl everyone had been talking up.
The barbeque was in full swing by the time they got there. Hopper was manning the grill while a woman Eddie vaguely recognizes as Joyce Byers is setting food out on the table. There's some weird bald guy with a beard demonstrating karate moves to them? most of the kids are running around the backyard. Little Red is even threatening to run Mike over with her wheelchair. He probably deserves it and it's nice to see her in such high spirits. Jonathan is lounging around on some pool chairs with a guy who must be a friend from California because he's never seen him in his life and a guy with hair that long and clothes that different would stand out in Hawkins as Eddie knows from experience. Eddie's eyes keep scanning around the backyard. Robin and Nancy seem to be gossiping about something. Steve is doing his classic mom pose at Dustin. Eddie continues looking around and then hos heart stops in his chest. There staring back at him, younger than he has ever seen it is his mothers face. His mothers face but with the same deep brown eyes he sees every time he looks in the mirror and the familiar begins of curls growing out of a buzz cut.

midnights songs as steddie headcanons
note: taylor’s midnights is a damned masterpiece!!! we all knew she is a genius but she always overtakes this status as well! so i thought why not write something like this? pairing taylor songs with steddie is my favorite thing to do :D should i do a second part?
Anti-Hero: We all know that because of his parents and his past trauma Steve always feels like a problem or a mistake, and I’m pretty sure if someone says “shut up” as a joke, he will shut up and won’t even talk for a while, because in the past it was a problem that he talked too much and that he is too loud. He always sabotages himself, he is his own worst enemy. He sometimes cries when he is alone because he feels so out of place and doesn’t know how to handle any of his feelings. He has hardcore moodswings. He always comforts himself, because he just doesn’t want to bother anyone and it’s much better like this. He cries some and all of it is gone (for a while). He constantly thinks he is better off alone, but he can’t lie, his soul and body aches for someone who wouldn’t think he is a mistake like he and everyone does.  And then he meets Eddie. The guy with trauma and who has been bullied in all of his life for.. basically being himself. But he never seemed to be bothered about it, he just really doesn’t care. Steve is amazed by this. Like, how can he be like this??? Eddie always brushes everything off with humor and then goes on with his day so Steve can’t help but talk to him. And Eddie understands him. He understands every little thing that causes Steve pain on a daily basis, and of course Eddie breaks sometimes too, but definitely in a better shape than Steve. So whenever Eddie notices that somethings is off or Steve gets too quiet, he says some cheesy jokes, and they are so damn bad, Steve can’t help but smile. And then Eddie starts to talk about some random idiotic topic, like when the leaves fall down, does the trees feel naked? And what if other trees see them? And Steve learns how to do the same and how to comfort someone. With time, but they’re both healing.
You’re On Your Own, Kid: That’s what Wayne says to Eddie when it comes being an actual grown up. It was something Eddie always feared. Yeah, he was a hero in his little fantasy world in D&D, but the real world was much scarier than anything he ever imagined in his campaigns. The truth is that for a very long time Eddie was alone, before he started his little club and gathered some friends. Not much, but he got all the people he needed. He uses all of his savings, but he finally gets out of town and buys a small flat close to the record shop where he works. For long-long months he feels more than alone. Everyone and everything is so new and cold, and even though he talks with the guys and Wayne, it’s still scary. He doesn’t know the streets or the faces around him, there are new smells and looks everywhere, there is nothing that Eddie is familiar with. It freaks him the fuck out. Who are these people and what is this place and shit, he should have stayed in Hawkins with Wayne and people he knew and.. Is that Steve Harrington? Steve shows up at the record shop, looking for something to buy that he can listen to while packing out in his new apartment. Eddie freezes and when Steve sees him, the boy starts smiling. It’s that smile Eddie always knew and hoped to always know. Steve approaches him, looks up and down on him and grins. “My, my, Munson.” Steve says, grinning like crazy. “Won’t even hug me now, big town guy?” he jokes and Eddie doesn’t need to be told twice. Getting wrapped up in Steve’s arms calms Eddie down, like everything is okay again. Like the summers in his trailer are suddenly back and it’s just another afternoon in school and he can’t be late from D&D night because Dustin will be furious. Like it’s the first snow in the year and Hopper is trying to get rid of the snow on the road while Joyce is waiting for him with a hot cup of coffee in his office. Like it’s after Robin’s first date with Vickie and she rants about it, while Nancy looks through on Jonathan’s new polaroids and Steve is sitting on the arm of the armchair Eddie is sitting on, because he wants to be close to Eddie. Steve makes Eddie feel like home, and he couldn’t be more happy that he is in the same town.
Snow On The Beach: Let’s get this straight. Eddie is a nerd. A weird, crazy guy who likes to kick rocks with his dirty Rebook sneakers and drive around the town with a cigarette between his lips. Who reads a lot even if he has trouble with letters sometimes and spends hours and hours on figuring out his next campaign. And then well.. there is Steve. The ex jock, who has cool hair, cool car, cool house. He is cool, as known. He dated loads of girls and he is an angel with kids, he is friends with a lot of them, actually. He might be a walking disaster, but with the prettiest face you ever seen. And he is a nice guy, a really really nice one. This thought hits Eddie when one day he wakes up next to Steve after one of their dates and Steve is just.. there. Breathing calmly, his eyes closed, his hair messy. Like, is this actually happened? They have been going out for three months now but he never really thought about this until now. Steve chose him. He is none of his type, and he isn’t even a girl. But Steve fell for Eddie so hard, he wasn’t even sure if he could stand up anymore. This is a dream. As he brushes his hand over Steve’s warm face, he just blinks lazily, trying to figure out how is this happened. He led his fingers into his curls, curling them around his index finger. Gosh, Eddie was so in love. And Steve was, too. It was like snow on the beach, because honestly, how could this happen? Eddie didn’t really know what is he doing with life, but as Steve got closer to him, burrying his face into his chest, he was pretty sure he is doing something well.
Maroon (claiming): It’s the first time Steve gets real high. First, it’s nothing noticable, he just lies down on Eddie’s couch, his feet in Eddie’s lap and they are laughing like crazy. There is one point when Eddie chuckles into his fist and Steve absolutely loses it. He sits up, his feet still in Eddie’s lap, Eddie’s hand wrapped around his aknles, massaging them slowly. Steve moves so harshly, he makes the couch move which pushes the table next to it and makes the drink on it fall down. The sound of breaking glass is only an echo as they start kissing, their lips painting every shade of red; maroon, scarlet, merlot, crimson. Steve gets the idea to tug on Eddie’s hair, which really makes the guy going. He pulls Steve into his lap, his hands resting on his hips, just under Steve’s shirt, gently touching the flashed skin. Eddie got Steve’s bottom lip between his teeth, sucking on it and making Steve whimper along with a few circling movements of his hips, just to then relase it with a wet pop. Eddie kissed over Steve’s jawline, going down on his neck, following the now vividly noticable veins with his lips, barely touching them while letting out hot little breaths onto the skin. He got to his collarbones, ready to color them just as red as Steve’s puffy and wet lips were. He pressed his lips to it softly at first, then he couldn’t resist but bite them a bit, pulling the skin on it, then sucking on them. Steve’s eyes were foggy and his breathing was messy as he held into Eddie’s shoulder, throwing his head back so Eddie could kiss him better. Everywhere.
Labyrinth: Steve never meant to fall for Eddie. He never meant to fall for how genuine he is with every movement and word of his, whatever he does. He never meant to fall for his curls, and chocolate brown eyes, and of course his almond shaped, puffy lips that were giving out taunting words a lot of times when they spoke to Steve. He never meant to fall for the way he talks to him, teasing, and calling him on all kind of nicknames just to annoy him a bit, but not going too far. He never meant to fall for the way Eddie was there for him even in his darkest times, and he let him to be absolutely defenceless around him, making sure he knows he is safe. He never meant to fall for the the little things Eddie does. The way he collects shiny rocks, or talks slower when he is concentrated, or when he leans back too much with the chair he almost falls and kicks the table up. Not even that, that Eddie writes letters with little letters he cutted out from newspapers. He never meant to fall for the way Eddie cares so much about others, even about the ones who never had a good word to him. He never meant to fall for any of this, he just did. And he happened not to regret it. Also.. Eddie fell just as much for him.
