good at being silent together
It's April and it's still cold, wind's blowing with all its power through my windows. Rain and leaden clouds over our heads keep me thinking of angry gods and their wrath upon this realm. I read a lot. As usual

my roman empire is the multiple attempts to create a film adaptation of the secret history and how it was put off by multiple deaths and then the fact that donna tartt didn't like how the goldfinch turned out and fired her agent 😭😭😭

Richard Papen going from not much of a meat eater and giving his lamb chops to Bunny at the beginning of the book to wolfing down Camilla’s room service lamb chops at the end is probably a metaphor I’m too stupid to figure out

i’m rather fond of the idea of bunny walking into henry’s house , no warning just barging in like he does, only to find henry fucking y/n (loudly)
do you know what, anon? that (loudly) killed me. and this is not to say i wasn't intrigued by the idea in the first place — believe me when i say i was, and how strongly so, too — but that single addition, that seemingly harmless adverb in brackets... it finished me off. you double-tapped me. you knocked me unconscious and had to get a final punch in nevertheless. good god. i love this idea, i can't help doing so.
in order for this to work, however, henry's door would need to be unlocked. now, i cannot fathom a situation in which that would be the case, as he's about the most organized and secretive person on earth, but let's just block that out for a moment and assume the two of you had already been all over each other in the doorway and merely forgot to lock the front door in your haze of increasing passion. it happens to the best of us, right? so, by the time bunny will have barged in, you'd be getting your soul and your sanity rammed out of you, naked and coated in a gleamy film of sweat; clothes strewn about as another undeniable factor of your endeavors; the volume of your moans and the tone of his growls so emphasized it would be likewise impossible to deny the nature of your coalescence otherwise. not to mention the fleshy collisions of skin merely accentuated by the occasional spanks henry would land on you. hell, your activity would amount to being so loud that you wouldn't even hear bunny having strode in, all smiles (which would soon fade) and giddy to greet henry for whichever reason he had lodged in mind prior.
the worst part is: he wouldn't even announce his presence, which would excruciatingly leave you to discover him in the room with you on your own, not in any way initiated by the intruding party. henry would angle your hips in a different way and press your head into the bedsheets so that it'd loll to the side, conveniently in the general direction of the bedroom doorway — to notice the unwanted intruder.
you'd shriek, then — this time not out of pleasure — and propel henry to stop with a petrified exclamation of his name. he'd whip around in horror momentarily, and bunny would remain standing there, as though ossified; slack-jawed, wide-eyed, barely breathing. you will never have experienced a drop in libido that fast. the following few moments would be filled with spoken (and screamed) profanity and scrambling to cover yourselves, with henry fumbling about for his glasses so he could stand the hell up and irately shove a motionless bunny out of the room.
you'd both want bunny dead after that. in fact, let's alter the tsh plotline a little: what if henry's motive was enriched by one additional factor, one the rest of the greek class would be unaware about; unless, of course, bunny will have run his mouth about it at the next best time (if there even is a 'best' time for sharing something like that, that is)? this is both comical and alluring to me, i'm thrilled.

Yes, Bunny is problematic. He's misogynistic and homophobic etc etc we all know that. Do I still like him tho? Yes.
"Oh. So you like horrible charac—"
Get a grip. Are people so stupid these days that they can't differentiate real life from fiction? Don't me.

Becoming a character in a dark academia novel - A beginners guide:
Show off your love for literature, fine art or mythology. Make sure everyone knows you’ve read Plato. And Shakespeare. And Homer. Basically, Quote an old white dude who’s probably dead at least once a day.
Make sure to be seen running through your school. Develop an aesthetic run. Maybe do this with a group of equally experienced friends.
Please don’t own anything plastic or overly bright. (this is definitely for the environment).
Have a set of fucked up morals. But make sure to prepare yourself with some smart sounding excuse that essentially intimidates people and deters them from asking questions.
Murder someone or be murdered. Either one. (I’d say it’s your choice, but if you’re being murdered, well, it’s probably not).
Develop an addiction- I’d recommend something like red wine, or cigarettes. Or both. (But you didn’t hear it from me).
Embrace the angst, the insanity, the insomnia and the general dislike for others.
Don’t worry about being friendly; coldness is encouraged.
Learn several old languages that most people don’t actually speak. If this truly isn’t possible: resort to French.
Please, for the love of [insert old white dude here], be dramatic.
If you aren’t rich then either embrace it as an aesthetic. Or just lie.
Either get a small, cluttered apartment, or a giant fucking mansion.
Be smart.
Listen to classical music.
In terms of love you have a few choices: fall In love with someone but then kill them. Be queer and deny it. Be queer and fall for heterosexuals (or at least people who think they are). - basically please never get a happy ending with someone you actually love.
Exist only during winter and autumn. I suppose you may spend some time in spring. But only make brief appearances in summer. If you’re seen during summer, make sure you’re at a lake, or on a lawn, or in a sunlit library, maybe a sailboat?
Read.
Get some collared shirts.
If you get glasses they better be obscure.
Make sure people see you drunk. Maybe knock on a classmates door whilst drunk.
If you aren’t six feet under, remember to be mature and regretful years after your time at your elitist school.
Oh yeah, receive an elite education. (Or hang out in public libraries a lot?? Idk).
Avoid healthy relationships. Or maybe form an inseparable bond with someone. Honestly this can still be unhealthy. Probably will be.
Never have a good relationship with your family. They must be either dead, uninterested in you, far away, or just plain shitty.

You know what hurts my soul a lill bit.
Like.
Henry says if he had the time, he'd sit Bunny down and explain everything to him. This is right after they scare Bun in Henry's house, when they show up all bloody, and Henry's like there was no time to explain because anyone might've seen them- but what about later?
I can't stop thinking about: what if you just TOLD him what happened? Bunny's biggest issue, according to Henry, was not the fact that they'd killed somebody, it was that they'd excluded him. (Personally I also thinkk it was bcs of the "several very unkind things" he'd written in his stupid little diary but sure henry, whatever helps u sleep at ni8)
I just feel like Bunny would've been less annoying about the whole thing and possibly even slightly concerned (about the cops finding out or something) because then he'd feel like he could still be implicated bcs he'd realize he had no alibi that could be confirmed and his previous involvement with the greek class would make him suspect too, and if he didn't realize it, Henry would 'remind' him of the fact.
It's just that...I know Henry was very disillusioned w Bunny towards the end, like he hated him, couldn't stand him, felt suffocated by him- but that was still someone he'd, at one point, cared about. I think Bunny at least deserved a fucking chance.
Instead of Henry avoiding him (ish) and avoiding the topic after Rome, why didn't the fool try to talk sense into Bunny? I know he was mentally exhausted, but the way his mind was like, going straight to murder makes me think he'd probably thought about it before too 💀💀
Even the actual murder bro like. Like. You lure him in and then you just suddenly shove him. Bunny didn't get a chance to plead for mercy or anything, or to promise he wouldn't tell anybody, so on so forth. I mean, Henry could have tried a scare tactic (pretending like they were gonna kill him to drive the point home, make him understand his position) but no, he jumped to murder immediately.
I suppose I can try and see where Henry was coming from. He didn't like to overcomplicate things, and maybe threatening Bunny would backfire like everything else did, maybe embolden him more. I get the impression that Bun was the sort to get worse if he was treated badly, even if he deserved it, but maybe being reminded of his own mortality would knock some sense into him. I know he was childish and immature and it makes me think he was one of those ppl you'd have to talk to nicely and try to appeal to his sense of friendship/loyalty for him to be nice, return the energy. Idk guys, I just wanted to get this thought out og my brain.
Also not to put the blame solely on Henry. My man was tired. Why didn't the other losers try and be like "Lol wtf. No." I know Henry was like their boss or whatever, admired yada yada but like...? He wasn't the dictator sort, like they couldnt talk to him even if they wanted to. This is why I think each one of them is just as bad as the other. I mean charles was showing hesitance before the murder and then after he was the most (visibly) regretful, even richard expressed some grief (or maybe he only did so in the book to seem nice) but yeah yeah yeah idk where im going w this but u get my point

i'm still not sure how i feel about any of tsh characters because all this time Julian was manipulating the greek class, the og class was manipulating Richard and he was manipulating us, the readers, so can we believe anything that was said in this book anymore?
