HZD Terraforming Base-001 Text Communications Network

GAIA set up a communications network for Aloy and her friends. Aloy had no idea what they were getting into. Or: I realized that a groupchat fic actually makes PERFECT SENSE in Forbidden West. Varl: What is hap

Aloy: GAIA set up a communications network between our Focuses. We can use it for voice or even holograms, like I did earlier, or just write short messages.

Varl: Wouldt talkng be easyer

ADMIN [GAIA]: Varl, there is a spellcheck feature if you would like to ensure you communicate with clarity.

Varl: Tht mighyt

Varl: Thhat

Varl: YESS PL

Zo: This could be convenient. Assuming Varl can make use of this feature GAIA mentioned.

Varl: How u so gd easyly?

Zo: I find the system very intuitive.

Aloy: Um, Varl, this isn't the hard part of using a Focus. You should pretty much just have to think the words and the program will write them for you.

Varl: Mchbc dont wrt.

Aloy: Machines don't write? Are you saying you don't want to use a program?

Zo: I don't think it's a moral argument. I think he means he never needed to learn how to spell while hunting machines.

Aloy: Oh. Yeah, that's fair.

Aloy: Wait, aren't you standing right next to him? Can't he just tell you?

Zo: He's being stubborn. He wants to figure this out.

Varl: Iz IMPRTT.

Aloy: Well, at least you're using punctuation.

Aloy: I'm coming down to meet you. We'll talk about our plans.

Varl: Il gett fmws

Aloy: Sure, THAT got through fine.

Aloy: I'll be down in a second. Where are you?

To the mf who had my house before me, if you see me on the street, turn around and run the other way. Because if I see you, know that it’s going to be on sight. Who even puts tile like that?? Anyways, I'm kind of sick, so that's why I've been kind of inactive.

But good news (ish) I got me a house! Yay! Let’s hope I can keep it. To celebrate, y’all can have this! And a few chapters! So technically this is a chapter update post?

Danny’s most favorite thing to do with Alfred Pennyworth is groundskeeping. While he might not be Sam, Danny could still appreciate the serenity and beauty of nature.

“Ow, fuck!”

“Master Danny, please refrain from using explicit language.”

“Sorry, Alfred. I got stabbed.”

“Oh dear. Will you be needing a bandage?”

“Nah, it’s okay. I think…” Danny hummed, peering closer at the reddish brown thorns sprouting from the ground. “That might be the rose bush?”

Alfred paused his snipping, turning around and coming closer to inspect the plant. “How peculiar. It seems to have grown a branch beneath the soil.”

In unison, Danny and Alfred lifted their heads to look at the rose bush, innocuously sitting three yards away.

“Huh. Weird.”

“Indeed.”

The door to one of Bruce Wayne’s many gardens, all opulently gothic to hide their vigilante disturbances, opened. The hinges swung without a single creak, as Alfred the butler always carried WD-40 on his person and a squeaky hinge in this mansion was an affront to his professionalism.

"Hey, guys! Whatcha doing?" Duke greeted, followed by Jason.

"Gardening! You wanna help?"

"Nah, I'm a Gothamite, not Poison Ivy, man. I don't do grass." Duke replied, plopping down on one of the lawn chairs with his drink. "But I can totally give you moral support... from over here."

Danny snorted. "What about you, Jason?"

Jason shrugged. "Sure, what are we doing?"

"There's a rose bush that grew all the way over here."

"Woah, crazy."

"Indeed, Master Jason. I shall go get the shovels."

"Okay, Alfie," Jason absently agreed, focused on finding where else the rose bush had grown to. "You wanna keep the bush, right?"

"That would be preferable."

"Duke, can't-" Jason paused, throwing a quick look at Danny before visibly changing tracks. "Can't you get us some drinks?"

"Kitchen's right over there, Jason." Duke pointedly leaned back and took a sip.

Danny piped up. "I'll get it! What did you want, Jason?"

Two hours later, covered in all manners of dirt and blades of grass, Jason and Danny sat back to survey the messed up garden.

"You sure we can't hire Ivy to move the plant somewhere?"

"She'd just make it worse," Jason grumbled.

"You guys can do it!" Duke cheered, scrolling through his phone and cherry picking the most hilarious pictures of Jason and Danny to send to the group chat. He chose the selfie, where he was grinning into the camera as Jason fell on his ass as Danny pulled up a long section of thorns.

Duke gets nailed in the face with two clumps of grass from his disgruntled brothers.

"I believe it is time for a shower." Alfred Pennyworth smiled, content. Days like these made him glad that his grandchildren found their way back.

hopped on the buddie train so here’s a super rough snippet with a side of buck-may-harry being siblings

“You can’t marry Eddie though,” May says, taking a bite of her french toast. “I’m too young to be an aunt.”

Buck does a double take, eyes wide as saucers. What did May just say? “Why would I—?”

“And I don’t wanna be Chris’ uncle,” Harry chimes in as he drowns his pancakes in syrup. “We’re the same age. That’d be weird.”

“Why would you be—?” Buck tries asking. He is once again interrupted.

“And I have a plan to be the rich aunt,” May elaborates. “I’ve got seventy bucks in my bank account, at best. I’m not ready for cool aunt duties.”

“And he needs to ask mama!” Harry chimes in, tapping his fork against his plate twice like a gavel.

“Absolutely!” May nods rapidly. She takes a sip of her mimosa. “Mama will kill him if he doesn’t ask. And Bobby might fire him.”

“I don’t—” Buck tries. His voice is once again drowned out by his arguing siblings.

“Isn’t it illegal to fire someone over personal stuff?”

“Who’s he gonna call, the police? OSHA? Mom—”

“What are you talking about?” Buck interrupts, incredulous. “Why would I— Eddie? Me and Eddie? Aunt—?” His voice rises in pitch as he speaks, gradually speeding up.

May and Harry pause, hands steady in midair as they hold their forks, french toast and pancakes stabbed into them, syrup gradually falling back onto their plates.

“Uh,” May says, exchanging a look with Harry. “Did you guys already break up?”

“I told you he couldn’t keep a relationship!” Harry huffs.

“We were never together!” Harry and May stare at Buck like he’s the insane one. He starts to wonder if he’s fallen into an alternate dimension. “Eddie and I aren’t together! We have never been together!”

Harry gapes and slams his hands on the table. “Then why did I pay Chris forty bucks!”

Ashton is such a fascinating character and just really fucking cool guy, excellent taste!

3. Fluff for Ashton

There are some upsides to being a stone-cold bastard.

Ashton tilts their head back, headache (he blames Chetney) soothed by shade, sour mood (he blames Imogen) eased with booze, and aches (he blames himself) massaged away by heat.

Rocks fucking leech up warmth, and it’s just what they need to burn at the gnawing pain in their limbs and joints. Not to say metal doesn't do it better. Maybe too well: where Fresh Cut Grass gets the sharp hot you flinch away from, the sun settles into Ashton's bones like a clingy lover. Once it's gone he's cold to the touch and left alone with the pain.

He isn't all stone, though: the gold gets uncomfortably warm, and once a nap by a forge (don't fucking ask) had it drooling. And the glass can be a bitch too, taking light and throwing it back with a vengeance if their head isn't covered. The shards stabbing into their knees and ankles and wrists and back like some fucked up acupuncture remind them how much life sucks if they get too cozy during a nap.

(Some. He didn't say many.)

Ashton keeps carefully still to keep the pain to a hum the sun can balm away. It's a survival strategy.

It probably explains why the cat showed up.

He cracks an eye open to see the thing - an obnoxious yellow-orange - gauging the jump before taking a leap. Ashton hisses when claws find purchase in their jacket. Bold little bastard pays that no mind, instead curling into his crossed arms with a loll of its head. When Ashton gives it a glower it blinks and wiggles, getting fucking comfortable.

(The cat is pretty warm too, even as it hogs up the sunshine and sun-warmed stoneskin.)

(Sure, fine, they'll let it happen.)

I know that I've bitched abt this before but since I can't find the original post, I'll just say again that I have so many issues with people that will send screenshots of fics they’re reading to their friends (or talk publicly about a fic on a platform that the author is not on) but then won’t leave a comment on the fic itself or ever directly talk to the author of said fic.

Like ok so you clearly loved the fic but you don’t think the author should know that?? You don't want to encourage them to write more work?? Because you don’t perceive fanfic authors as real people, do you? you only perceive their content as real and given to you like a commodity or some sort of given in a fandom sphere. and you can enjoy it in whatever means you want but you don’t care about the author, you care about you.

fanfic is not just a consumable product <3 fanfic authors are real people sharing our time and our energy and our love for writing and our love for our fandom with you for free <3 and the whole point in doing that is to connect w/ other people that love what we love.

so every time you read a fic (or any book !! or any art piece !! or literally anything MADE by another human being !!), consider the person who poured their energy and their love into that. and if you liked the fucking thing?? tell them that??

BUT here's The Widening Sky that I bound myself. It's messy, ramshackled together, and got flaws. It's the first one I made after all. But I adore it. I went camping with my family and read it twice over a week. And had the same soft, gentle kind of heartbreak and mending this story all puts me through TWICE!!
