If you feel like filling this: for the first time, Matthew and Alfred are left alone overnight and Alfred feels all grown-up and excited. Pity that Matthew had hidden he wasn't feeling well and he isn't getting any better... Thank you! ❤️
Torture Matthew? Sure thing! Haha. 😁 As usual, I got carried away. You can’t ask me to write a sickfic and not expect the word count to be high lol. I made it a throwback to my “Matthew has asthma” headcanon. Also, did you know many U.S. states don’t have a law for how old a child must be to be left home alone overnight? Same for the UK. Apparently, it’s generally recommended that the child is at least 14 or 16, so I went with Al and Matt being 15 in this one.
The House Party That Never Was
Word Count: 1924 (I know. I’m sorry!)
10 AM, Friday
“We’ll only be two hours away, so if anything happens or there’s a problem, call and let us know, and we’ll drive back right away.”
“Okay, Dad. We know,” Alfred groans. They’re not babies anymore—Mattie and he can handle being left alone overnight while their parents go to see the philharmonic orchestra in Philadelphia for their anniversary.
“There are leftovers in the fridge that you can have for dinner tonight. You can order pizza tomorrow if we’re not back by six o’clock,” Papa reminds, just as worried and over-protective as Dad is being. “Make yourselves breakfast and lunch. We have plenty of fruit, cereal, bread, cold cuts, yogurt—”
“Yes, Papa. We’ll make sure to eat,” Matthew interjects with a soft sniffle. “It’ll be fine.”
Dad immediately notices said sniffle and flips out. He puts his duffle bag down and presses a hand against Matthew’s forehead, feeling for a fever and not finding one. “Are you all right? You aren’t coming down with something, are you? We can cancel the trip and—”
“No, no. It’s just allergies.”
“…Okay, take an anti-histamine from the medicine cabinet.”
“I will.”
“In case of emergency—"
“Call 911. We know, Dad. We’re fifteen, not five!” Alfred sighs, tempted to physically push his parents out the front door at long last.
Dad struggles to find something else to lecture them about and pushes his sunglasses farther up his nose before deciding, “All right…Behave and don’t get into any trouble. We love you.”
Dad and Papa exchange hugs with them before they finally cross the driveway, get into the car, and drive off, disappearing down the road.
“Woo! Freedom! God that took forever!” Alfred exclaims as he locks the door and turns around to look at Matthew, who is standing by the stairs with his hands stuffed in the pocket of his navy-blue hoodie. “Our first time home alone for a whole night! We’ve been living sheltered lives, Mattie, but not anymore. Today, we’re men. So, who’re we inviting over?”
Matthew clears his scratchy throat and gently rubs at his nose with his sleeve. “Umm…I’m pretty sure Papa and Dad said we’re not supposed to have any friends over…”
“What they don’t know won’t hurt them.”
“Al, they’ll find out.”
“No, they won’t. Come on, Matt. Don’t be lame.”
“Yeah, they will. If not tomorrow, then eventually, and I don’t wanna break their trust. If we worry them or make them angry, they’ll never leave us home alone for more than a couple of hours again,” Matthew argues, and if this stupid cold would just leave him alone, everything would be peachy. He rubs at his chest, which feels a little tighter than usual, and takes two puffs of his inhaler.
Alfred glowers and slumps his shoulders. “Yeah, I guess you’re right. We have to prove we can handle it at least once…You okay, bro? Your asthma’s acting up?”
“It’s just from my allergies,” Matthew repeats because he has to keep up the lie. It’s spring, so it’s believable enough. To be entirely honest, he’s been feeling terrible since last night, but he didn’t want to give their parents a reason to cancel their trip. He doesn’t have a fever, so it can’t be that serious...It’s just a cold, and he doesn’t want to be an inconvenience. Their parents deserve to enjoy their anniversary without interruption. “Wanna play Smash?” he asks, changing the subject. Alfred doesn’t have the greatest attention-span, and he’ll hopefully forget all about this.
“Okay, sure. I’ll set up the Switch and the controllers. You should go and take your allergy medicine.”
“Cool. Yeah,” Matthew replies. It’s the perfect opportunity to go upstairs, blow his nose without witnesses, and take some cough medicine…And another two puffs of his inhaler.
He refuses to be a bother. He knows how to take care of himself.
--------------------------------------
7 PM, Friday
Alfred has eaten enough mesquite barbecue chips to feed their entire block, and Matthew is genuinely astonished that he hasn’t been sick yet. How can so much junk food fit into one stomach? Now that no one is around to stop him, Alfred has devoured half of the fridge, and he still doesn’t seem to be totally full, even after dinner.
Papa left them blanquette de veau, a French veal stew. It soothes Matthew’s throat and warms his chest, which feels lovely initially, but then the steam breaks up some of the mucus in his lungs and leaves him suffering through several coughing fits. Fortunately, Alfred is in the bathroom for the worst of it, and doesn't hear him hacking.
They’ve been playing video games for hours now, and Matthew can feel a low-grade fever settle into his body. Every time he inhales, he can hear his lungs give off a tiny wheeze.
When Alfred goes off to get some juice to drink, Matthew discreetly takes yet another two puffs of his inhaler.
“This is getting kinda boring. Wanna put on Netflix? We can binge-watch Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
Matthew would rather lie down in bed with his tablet or phone, but if he doesn’t join Alfred, he might grow suspicious, and then he’ll worry, or he’ll call their parents.
“Sure. Let’s do it…”
--------------------------------------
1 AM, Saturday
“Matt...? Matt? You’re falling asleep on me, bro.”
Matthew is startled awake and fixes his glasses, which must have tilted awkwardly to the left while he was sleeping. He doesn’t know when he dozed off on the couch, but it was sometime during Book Two of Avatar. Dad and Papa called around 9 PM to check on them, and Alfred did all of the talking. He reassured them that they’re both alive and haven’t broken any part of themselves or anything in the house.
Matthew squints at the clock on the wall. “It’s late…”
“Yeah. We should go to bed,” Alfred agrees, and he must be tired as well if he’s not insisting they pull an all-nighter.
“I’m gonna brush my teeth.”
“Okay. Have fun. I’m gonna live on the wild side and not brush ‘em,” Alfred says with a grin and a wink.
“Wow, so edgy,” Matthew says, poking some fun at him before heading upstairs with a giant yawn. He’s exhausted, and the wheezing is back. He takes the nightly dose of his steroid inhaler and stares longingly at his nebulizer. He could do with a treatment, but it’s so loud, and then, Alfred would know something’s not right.
So instead, he brushes his teeth, quietly takes some additional puffs of his rescue inhaler, and burrows under the covers of his bed, hoping this will all have blown over by the morning.
--------------------------------------
3 AM, Saturday
He can’t sleep. He can’t breathe. He needs a nebulizer treatment. Now. But it might wake Alfred.
He risks it. There’s no other choice.
And sure enough, five minutes into the treatment, Alfred plods into his room with drowsy eyes, and asks, “Mattie, what’s going on? You’re sick, aren’t you? Hang on. I’ll…I’ll call Dad and Papa, don’t worry.”
“No!” Matthew shouts, surprised by the strength of his voice given the state of his lungs. “You can’t…It’s their anniversary…I’m fine.”
“Matt, I’m pretty sure this counts as an emergency, bro.”
“It’s not!”
“It’s the middle of the night and you can’t breathe—that’s an emergency, dude!”
“I’ll be fine after the nebulizer treatment is done,” he assures in a breathless rush around the nebulizer’s mouthpiece, but he’s not so sure he will be.
“Well, we’ve gotta tell somebody!” Alfred shouts back at him before coming closer and touching his clammy forehead. “Dude, you’re burning up. What the hell? Why didn’t you say anything all night?”
Ignoring Matthew’s protests, Alfred makes the call.
This isn’t going to be good…
--------------------------------------
5 AM, Saturday
“Matthew!”
Dad and Papa burst through his bedroom door, and they’re by his side in a flash, fussing over him and acting as though he’s on the verge of death. They’re still dressed in the clothes they probably went to sleep in, and before Matthew can say a single word, Dad has his stethoscope on his chest and is listening to his lungs. He then clamps a pulse oximeter on his right index finger, waits for a reading, and frowns severely.
While Papa strokes his head and asks him why he didn’t let them know sooner that he wasn’t feeling well, Dad disappears and then returns with three small pills and a glass of orange juice.
“Take these,” Dad instructs.
Matthew wrinkles his nose as he puts the pills in his mouth and swallows them. The bitter aftertaste makes him shudder—prednisone.
“Is he going to be all right?” Papa asks, squeezing Matthew’s hand.
“I’ll keep an eye on him. He should feel better once the steroid starts to work. We leave you boys home alone for one day, and you try to hide a medical emergency from us! What were you thinking?”
“It was very irresponsible,” Papa adds.
And here he thought that Alfred would be the one to ultimately break their parents’ trust.
“I’m sorry…I didn’t want you to have to cancel your trip. You’ve both been looking forward to it for a month,” Matthew timidly explains, breaths still shallow.
“A trip can always be rescheduled. Your health can’t be,” Dad says sternly. “You had us worried sick. I was debating whether or not to tell Alfred to call for an ambulance. You should know better than to ever allow yourself to silently deteriorate like this!”
“I’m sorry…”
Dad sighs and rests a cold compress on his forehead. “We can decide on a punishment when you’re feeling well again.”
A punishment? Really? Not fair.
Now is not a good time to argue though, so he lets Papa and Dad fret over him some more—they fluff his pillows, and force juice, water, and medicine for his fever down his throat. He feels awful knowing they lost sleep over him and had to hurry home, but at the same time, he’s grateful that they’re here, tending to him and monitoring him in case he gets worse. As much as he’d like to be regarded as an adult, he still wants his parents around when he’s unwell.
“I’m really, really sorry…I feel terrible for ruining everything.”
“Stop that,” Dad insists, shaking his head admonishingly at him. “We’re not upset with you for being ill—anyone can fall ill at any time and it’s out of one’s control. We’re upset that you tried to hide it from us, even if you thought you had the right intentions.”
At that moment, Alfred peeks his head into the room, revealing that he’s been eavesdropping, and says, “I’d just like to point out that I did the responsible, mature thing, and called for help for my dearest, darling brother in his time of need. Very grown-up behavior—totally wise beyond my years. And because of that, I think, I deserve to be able to go to Six Flags next week with my friends.”
Papa laughs heartily while Dad rolls his eyes.
“Oui, you did the right thing, Alfred. But the greatest reward for helping your brother should be a sense of pride,” Papa notes.
“I mean, yeah, but a physical reward would be kinda nice, too.”
“Alfred,” Dad says with a warning tone. “Not now.”
“All right, all right. I know. Just food for thought, you know? Glad Mattie’s okay, of course.”
How in the world did Alfred come out on top? He’s a better adult? There’s no way!
Okay, next time they’re home alone, they’re definitely throwing a party.
That’ll show him.

It’s not convenient. Convenient was that one person with the pretty smile whose eyes seemed to possess an affinity to him that one time at a jazz club, or the singer with the honey voice and smooth runs more soothing than the late night singing of a mother to her child. A poor goon who smooched his fist whilst it collided with his face could even fit the designation, really— but what mattered, the simple component they shared, was that all three were just a speck in a sea with no end; an eternal blue void with only more possibilities hiding in the pitch-black depths neither he nor the light’s fingertips could touch. They were safe. Uncomplicated.
Peter stared out the window, at a completely distinct world, far from a city in a vintage film: the ongoing the mechanical song of speeding cars, the newer and taller lit up buildings, the blinking golden lights, identical to a field of a thousand miniscule suns. This was not convenient. It’s… so different— like day and night, water and fire. This meant to swim out of the ocean he belonged to and reach for a foreign land, to run after a mere drop of water when a whole fucking body existed behind him. It’s not safe. It’s complicated.
Your sleepy eyes roamed the same page for the fifth time with no precise purpose, more disoriented than a newcomer in a large city until they traveled and spotted their true destination: Peter’s own sight deeply engulfed in the view outside, the twisting of his brows every now and then filling your mind with wonder and curiosity at what could possibly be running through that brain of his. You could’ve continued with the ogling like the damn creep you were (seriously, you gotta stop it with that, you told yourself), but you slipped and made a mistake— the most laughably absurd misstep— worse than trying to take a picture of a stranger and then, to your utmost terror, the flash going off— which wouldn’t have occurred in the first place if you’d paid your electricity bills on time. Your apartment wouldn’t have been plunged into darkness, and you wouldn’t have, without thinking, your head clearly not in its right place at the moment, slightly tilted your phone and directed your phone’s flashlight right at the side of his face. You quickly pulled the beam of light away, as if that would work; however, his gaze drifted to you. “Sorry.” You blurted out, acting casual and pretending to focus on the journal on your lap. “You were so quiet, I thought you had fallen asleep.” You lied.
“No, I’m awake.” He said, furrowing his brows to himself— of course you already knew that. You mumbled a small ‘good’, holding the notebook close to your face, like a child staring through the window of a pet shop at some puppies, shining the ‘smartphone’, he’d learned, over the pages. You bit your lip, your shoulders shaking with your surfacing laughter.
“Oh, man, this one’s so dumb.” You snickered before running your finger up the paper, clearing your throat. “October 8th, 1999. Today I came back from my camping trip with Peter, Ben, and May. We ate a lot of s'mores— Uncle Ben makes the best! We also told some scary ghost stories, and I even made Pete scream. It was awesome. You will not believe what happened!” You read the last sentence with a dramatic tone, similar to that of a terrible news headline from a sketchy website, making yourself more comfortable on the L shaped bench seat and leaning into Peter’s side.
Peter tensed at first, but slowly, he pushed himself to relax after you rested your head on his shoulder, a quiet voice in the back of his head speaking against his desires, echoing the terrifying thought that he could get used to this. “I don’t know, enlighten me: what happened?” He asked, amused. You lifted your finger, eyebrows raising gradually, building up the suspense. He waited, and waited, and waited, until, finally—
“I have to go eat dinner. I’ll tell you later.” You finished with an unhumorous voice and a poker face. Yet again, he awaited in silence, interested. Man, you took this suspense thing quite seriously— wait.
“And?”
“That’s it.”
“That’s it?!” He looked down at you and you nodded. “Oh, c'mon! You just gonna leave the reader hanging like that?”
You shrugged, wearing a shit-eating grin, loving his genuine disappointment as you flicked the page. “Sometimes that’s just the way it is.”
“Oh, what malarkey!” He laughed softly. You crinkled your nose— malarkey. What a dork.
You resumed scanning the barely discernible handwriting, the corner of your mouth tugging upwards. “Alright, this one does have an ending.” You sat up, rolling your shoulders back only to go back to your position of hunching over the journal. “April 3rd, 2000. I’m sorry I’ve been gone for so long, I forgot I had this journal. Something crazy happened.”
“The end.”
“Shut up.” You shushed him, shaking your head. “'I hung out with Peter today. We rode our bikes, had a race down the hill near my house, and I also got a butterfly to land on my finger. Man, I love insects!’ …and I still do.” You smiled and he glanced down at you, his mouth twitching. A peculiar glow in his chest grew, fueled him after he recognized that you felt comfortable enough to share this part of you with him; an insight on the stories that carved you into the person that you were today, the being that made every classy, pearly white grin and musical prodigy so boring, so undesirable.
You shuffled on your bum to turn and face Peter, continuing, “We came back home to play some more. We were sitting in front of the TV when, suddenly, he said my name, and like a normal person would, I looked at him…” You inclined forward, voice quieting, looking up at him.
“You won’t believe what happened.”
His eyes darted heavenward and he groaned. “Oh, lord.”
“He kissed me!” You cried out, with as much emotion that past you spilled onto the paper with the five exclamation marks and the three times you underlined the sentence. You slammed the notebook shut and let out a strangled clamor. “I still remember it very clearly. It was just a peck, but he fucking… smashed his mouth into mine, it hurt so much and my lip started bleeding and everything.” You giggled, abashed, rubbing your eyes.
Peter’s brows rose with surprise, pondering how an alternate seven-year-old version of him from another universe had more balls than him. He had to admit, though, the scene playing in his head was more entertaining than unfortunate. “And what’d you do?” He questioned, his mouth twitching.
“He was just curious and wanted to see what kissing someone was like, so we promised we wouldn’t talk about it ever again. He was so embarrassed, though, and felt so bad for making me bleed that he almost started crying.” You recalled, chuckling as you eyed the cursed diary one last time and placed it beside you. “What an idiot. I miss him.” You sighed, peering up at him, grinning. “What was your first kiss like, huh?”
It was comical, almost, the raging blush that trickled his face, the greyish tint screaming for the world’s attention. It was just a Peter Parker thing, you guessed: blushing like there was no tomorrow. “Uh, my first kiss?” You nodded. “Well… it happened when I was eighteen.”
You put the side of your head against the wall, eyes going round, your inquisitiveness close to that of a kid listening to a grandparent’s story. “Was it romantic?” You wanted to know everything: who the person was, the place, the context. Did he enjoy it? Did he make the move? And if so, then was there a chance that, maybe…
Unlike you, he did not have much interest in the subject; he stuttered, searching for a way to move on from the memory before he imploded. “I don’t, I don’t think anyone’s first kiss is romantic.”
You squinted at him, noticing his obvious attempt at dodging the question, but chose to spare him. Just for a few milliseconds, though. “Have you ever had… a perfect kiss?” You said, unsure of how to word such a silly question. He shook his head and you hummed, silently taking in a quick breath, your gaze moving to your right. “Have you thought about what you want it to be like?”
Should he say it? He wanted to. He really did. But he couldn’t, even if his eyes almost flickered down to your lips. “Who thinks about that?” He muttered. Perhaps he had. Perhaps he’d been guilty of having the thought slither into his mind once or twice— possibly more than just that. Perhaps it’d pestered his mind as of recent, like that damn small scratch on his glasses that won’t go away no matter how many times he tried to wipe it away as if that would even help. Perhaps it returned as you unconsciously licked your lips and raised your shoulder, a bashful grin growing on your face.
“I have, when I’m bored. An upside down kiss with a cute guy.” You admitted, your eyes narrowing afterward, only just now realizing how bizarre the idea was once you said it aloud. Your impatience throbbed in your head so badly you didn’t mind the embarrassment as much, though. You really were doing this, huh? “I think I found the cute guy.” You hinted, your heartbeat pounding in your throat.
He understood the insinuation, of course he did. But what better way to run from your feelings than close his trembling hand into a fist, pretend to be clueless, and act like an idiot?
“Who’s the lucky fella?”
Didn’t think he was so stupid, you grumbled in your head, masking your faint irritation. You pressed your lips together, sight on your cushions. “Someone I like quite a lot.” You vaguely said, voice distant. “Though I don’t think you’d understand— you’re not one to fall in love, no?”
It was half a joke but half a real question, one with solely one right answer you yearned to hear from him if you got lucky enough. Peter blinked nervously, fear burning in his stomach, clenching his insides as his tongue dared to break free from his control, from his cowardly spell. “Lately I’ve had someone in mind.” He breathed out, close to breaking out in a sweat. He watched how your eyes dimly lit up, hesitance impeding the light from fully glowing.
“Really? And who is this ‘someone’?”
“It’s a secret.”
“Tell me.”
“Not now.” He gulped. You pouted, begging with your eyes. “N-no.”
“Are you ever gonna make a move?”
Peter drew his lower lip between his teeth, feeling dizzy just by thinking about it; the downfall of the relationship once the distance became too much, once the malaise with no cure finally rotted the adoration, infested the heart, decayed it. “No.” Same answer. Same bedeviled word that boomed in his head whenever his emotions were close to getting the best of him.
“Why haven’t you done it yet?” You whispered, not caring anymore about how obvious you were
being. He frowned. Why hadn’t he done it yet?
“I don’t know if I should.”
“Why not?”
Why not? His own thoughts repeated, betraying him. The confusion unlatched the cage, released all the questions and doubts about his reasons and dread. They crowded his brain, rang in his ears. “It’s… it’d be too hard to keep the relationship alive.” He retold more to himself and the storm of interrogations than you.
Your brows snapped together, your own fear knocking on the door again. “Is it not worth it to try, though?” It’s what you’d told yourself: the antidote to unfreeze your limbs and wave goodbye at the concern hanging in there, because… was it not?
In the overwhelming haziness, he finally looked at you. It’s what he needed to come upon a realization, a truth he knew all along but crumbled and threw away. Everything hushed, one single, final phrase in the quiet of it all.
Convenient wasn’t what he wanted.
“It is.” He said under his breath.
You heard him, and your eyes twinkled. “Well, then make the move.”
He couldn’t help it anymore. His eyes found your lips.
“I will.”
You stared at each other for a moment, anticipation never more warming than right then as it fluttered in your chest. To your biggest disappointment, he broke eye contact and stood up. “Close your eyes for a moment.” He ordered, his face indistinguishable in the dark now that he was further away.
“Creepy, but okay.” You huffed, your eyelids fluttering shut. “You better not be running away right now, you’d break my poor ol’ heart.”
“Don’t worry, that’s not the case.” You heard him say. You trusted him, which could’ve been a terrible choice. The total silence that followed didn’t put you to ease at all, honestly. Maybe you annoyed him so much with your questions that he was about to murder you, and if that’s what was happening, you were quite sad, to say the least.
Your eyelids were itching to open and you lifted a brow, straining your ears to distinguish any sign of his presence. “What the hell are you doing?”
“You’re not gonna believe what’s about to happen.”
You snorted at his reference, but his voice was… oddly close. You opened your eyes, and— “Oh, fuck!” You yelped and jumped back in your seat. Damn right you weren’t gonna believe what was about to happen, for Peter dangled from the ceiling right in front of you, upside down.
“Is it too much of a strange idea? I was going to simply stick to the ceiling upside down, but then I thought… that’d be… worse.” He clumsily explained. You looked up at the web he hung from, laughing in disbelief.
“What the hell are you doing?” You repeated, but you weren’t mad— your large smile backed that up. You couldn’t figure out if it was a blush creeping up his face or if it was from the fact that he was upside down. Both, maybe.
“I’m making a move.”
You giggled, glad you confessed what you considered to be a perfect type of kiss to him or else you wouldn’t had witnessed how absolutely ridiculous he looked right now. “So you’re willing to help me check 'kissing someone upside down’ off my bucket list?” You smirked.
He grinned. “It would be my pleasure.”
You bit your lip, placing both hands on his head. “Alright, then.“
You leaned forward, the tip of your nose brushing against his chin. You softly kissed the area below his bottom lip to tease him, but he didn’t want to wait any longer. Not after so long. Quickly, he enclosed your own bottom lip with his mouth, lastly fully aware that inconvenient truly was magnificent.

“Wet Sugar” [Part 4 of 30]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: Erik struggles with his Wakanda goals and the absence of Yani, while she, in turn, copes with the lack of support from her job and her daughter’s father...
Mature audience only. NSFW.
Looks like this series is going to be longer than 6 parts. Lol, I knew it, just like “Say Less”, I think I can wrap it up in 6, but the characters said “Nope.” I’ll say 9 now, and see where I can tie things up in a neat bow. Which is never really neat with Erik tbh.
Back to the next update....
"But baby Don't get it twisted You was just another nigga on the hit list Tryna fix your inner issues with a bad bitch Didn't they tell you that I was a savage Fuck your white horse and a carriage Bet you never could imagine Never told you you could have it
You needed me Ooh You needed me To feel a little more, and give a little less Know you hate to confess But baby ooh, you needed me…"
Rihanna- "Needed Me"
Yani didn't arrive at the compound Friday morning.
Erik hung around the pool for most of the day waiting to see if she would show up. He didn't pester Leona about where she was, but every time he heard footsteps coming down the walkway, or voices below the pool, he was up and about looking for any signs of her.
Nothing.
He replayed his contact with her the day before.
He asked for permission to touch her breasts. She consented verbally. The sexual release he received from playing with her nipples, watching those peaks drip with milk gave him the best orgasm he had ever experienced since…shit…since he had been with Disǎ. And that was almost two years ago. His only regret was that he didn't bend down and squeeze the warm liquid into his mouth, swirl the milk on his tongue, see what it tasted like.
Watching her fingers move frantically inside her panties had him curious about what she tasted like down there too. Her eyelids were half slits when he watched her orgasm ripple across her face. And fuck…the sound she made when she was cumming. It made his legs wobble.
The warmth from her lips when he pressed his mouth into hers brought into sharp focus the feelings of displacement in his life. Yes, he was a nomad, going from job to job in the most dangerous regions of the world, but he was used to that, accustomed to living out of duffle bags and airport lounges, his brain configured to collecting data about Wakanda and T'Chaka and compartmentalizing his hierarchy of needs on the most basic survival level. Erik understood and accepted what needed to be done. His purpose. And it was always about moving, moving, moving…
But that kiss, as fleeting as it was…it made him think of being still.
He had never had that experience before.
Even with his ex Disǎ and the deep yearning love he had, and still had for her, he knew that he was going to be in perpetual motion until he was sitting on the throne of Wakanda. Nothing got in the way of that.
Yani was just some random woman on a little rock in the middle of the sea. He had gone through many women over the years in various parts of the world. Black women just as fine if not finer than this one island girl cleaning and cooking for some roughnecks.
What was it about her that had him jumping up every few minutes thinking she was about to appear? Had him making extra excursions up to the front house with excuses that he was hungry or thirsty or had a question about the compound. Had him up all night fantasizing about sucking on her tits while he fucked her nice and slow. Some nine-month-old baby's mother, her pussy probably still recuperating from squeezing out that cute chubby infant…why the hell was he going online looking up info on vaginal sex after childbirth? The hell?
Erik ran his hands over his hair and stood up from the lounge chair for maybe the twentieth time just to make another trek up to the front house. He'd have to ask Leona about her niece in a round-about way before he went back into his room to jack off thinking about heavy tits spurting milk in his mouth. He wanted to leave teeth marks on her areola, deep imprints of his gold slugs…mark her in some kind of way.
"Fuck," he muttered stomping up the steps that took him to Leona.
She was cleaning up in the dining room after making a delicious lobster bisque with grilled tilapia for lunch. He wasn't fond of tilapia, it always tasted dirty to him, but she prepared it with enough seasoning that made it palatable.
"Hello again," she said.
The smile on her lips matched the smile in her eyes, and Erik thought for a moment that she was on to him. He worried that overt interest in Yani would make Leona opt to keep her from working there while he was present. Erik was a killer. She could sense that he was more than just a polite young man showing manners to an elder. He was part of Klaue's team, and he knew that she was also aware of how men like him could turn on a dime.
"My associate Tahir is flying in tomorrow. I'm thinking of taking him back to that club I told you about. Rush?"
"I remember."
"You said your nephew was performing there? What does he do? Sing?"
"He raps. Very good too. A lot of my nieces and nephews do. None as good as Kendall though."
"What day is he performing?"
"Saturday night. I don't know what time he goes on stage, but Yani said it was Saturday. They're all excited about seeing him. It's his first real show."
Yani would be there. Bet.
"Are you going to see him? I can take you with me and Tahir if you don't have a ride—"
"Oh no, that's for you young people. I will be home in my apartment watching my shows. Yani has been trying to get me to go, but….no…"
"I'll record his performance on my phone for you."
"That would be nice, Mr. Killmonger."
He wanted to tell Leona his name, but he wanted to keep some distance too. For now, he only wanted Yani to know it.
He stood watching her for what seemed like an unnecessary amount of time. He had the info he needed, but watching her move about the room reminded him of being with his Nana.
"Can I help you clean or anything?"
She stopped and looked at him, a questioning expression on her face.
"There's not much going on today, pretty much a free day for me," he said.
"You nuh go to the beach?"
"Went twice already. This morning and before lunch," he said.
"I'm surprised you nuh go to St. John like the others," she said changing out placemats for the dining table.
"I'm going on Sunday."
"You like being by yourself, Mr. Killmonger?"
"Most times, yes."
"Things 'round here are pretty much done—"
"You need any help prepping dinner?"
"Oh, no. Dinner will be easy."
"How so?"
"Mr. Klaue is taking you all out to eat tonight. I get a little break. In fact, I am going to watch a little tv now and kick up my feet. Thank you for offering help. It was a kind gesture."
Erik nodded and Leona's eyes regarded him with interest.
"Would you like to watch tv with me?"
He hoped he didn't sound too eager when he nodded his head with enthusiasm.
"Well then, come along," she said.
Erik followed her to the apartment under the house. It was small, quaint, and very neat. The type of neat Erik appreciated. Attached to the entrance of the apartment was a shed that contained the washer and dryer for laundry.
Looking around the apartment living room Erik admired all the photos of family Leona had up. Most of the walls were covered with framed pictures. He spotted several with Yani, many of them when she was younger and had hair full of braids with barrettes and big round bubblegum ties on the ends. Most of her pictures had some incarnation of her squinting at the camera, or holding a hand up to block the sun from her eyes.
She was a thin wiry girl in her youth, but Erik could tell by the shape of older female relatives in many pictures that she was predestined to have hips and an ass to make men weep. That was the amusing thing he found about the island folk. The women would be round and luscious and the men would be lean and angular. There were photos of Leona when she was younger, and Erik had to admit that the women in this family were stellar to gaze upon. Sydette's photos were front and center, and she appeared to be the focal point for the more recent photos of family gatherings.
"Sit, sit…"
Leona went into her kitchen and brought out a bowl of grapes and a bowl of potato chips.
"Would you like something to drink?"
"No thank you, I'm good right now."
They sat on the couch and watched Jeopardy and then Wheel of Fortune before she turned to world news. He was leaning back on the couch comfortably, stuffing grapes into his mouth and listening to Leona critique the state of affairs in the U.S. But then his jowls, the part of Erik's jaw-line that Tahir said made him look like a pitbull sometimes, grew tight when he saw King T'Chaka being greeted by the Queen of England. And by his side wearing a crisp designer suit was his son, a solemn-faced Prince T'Challa.
"Oh, that young man is handsome. All my nieces think he is so cute."
Erik grunted and Leona chuckled. He felt his blood pressure rise and he shifted his body forward to study their faces. King T'Chaka was all smiles as the press took photos of them inside Buckingham Palace. T'Challa's eyes looked pampered and bored.
Erik clasped his hands together. If he were alone, he would probably cuss up a storm or hit something. But he concentrated on being calm in Leona's presence. He could taste his anger on his tongue, a gelatinous cold thing that dampened his mood.
"I gotta go," he said bolting up from his seat.
"Okay, Mr. Killmonger," Leona said.
Her wary eyes watched him, the shift in the tone of voice and facial expression on him much too sudden.
Erik left a cold trail behind him when he exited the apartment. His feet felt unsteady as he walked the path that led to the cove and Yani's beach. He passed by Jerome sunbathing on a wide stone, the creature's eyes closed tight, it's tail flicking a bit.
Undressing and tossing his clothes on the sand, Erik ran into the warm waters and dived under a lazy wave. When his head broke the surface again, he let out a cry of rage that made the cords on his neck bulge. He punched at the water, raised his head to the serene azure sky and released a hot piercing scream that stripped his throat raw. The soft sand under his feet gave way and he lost his balance, falling backward, his arms flailing as he tried to prevent seawater from flooding his nostrils.
Gasping for air, he let out a few more pained shrieks until tears welled up and fell from his eyes.
If he didn't do something about the Udaku family soon, he knew he would burn up, self-immolate, a rabid spontaneous human combustion that would leave his charred remains still clenching fists and screaming to the sky.
Erik fell forward and a new wave lifted his prone body and carried him toward shallow waters. He rolled over onto his back and let the sea carry him while allowing the sun's rays to kiss his skin. Once a striking sienna, time on the island had enhanced his melanin to a sumptuous chestnut color, and he could feel the UV rays burning and darkening his skin even more.
Closing his eyes, Erik focused on letting the anger and frustration and hurt to rush over and away from him. It wouldn't disappear completely, but he could usher it into a corner for now.
His body rocked by gentle untroubled waves, Erik spread out his arms and floated.
Yani.
His thoughts went to her and how she looked when she swam in these same waters. Calm. Secure. At peace.
A calm came over him.
It started from the crown of his forehead and trickled down to his throat where it melted into his belly, unclenching the muscles there before reaching his toes.
He heard a splash.
Jerking up from his back, his eyes scanned the water. Was she here?
A small sea bird swooped over his head and Erik watched it dive into the water for fish.
He couldn't hide his disappointment. The need to see her clawing at him. Did she regret what she allowed him to do to her? Was she embarrassed? Did he cross the line by masturbating on her? So much of his semen had painted her as if she were a fine art canvass. Did it disgust her? Was it the sight of her breastmilk cascading down her stiff peaks and all over his hand and not in her child's mouth that drove her away? Did he waste sustenance meant for her child's growth and she felt ashamed about that? Regretful?
Her lips.
He wanted them again.
Wanted to hear her sighs of release, hear the sound of her fingers in wet spaces between her legs.
His eyes watched the liquid warmth create tranquility around his body.
He conjured a mirage of Yani, the way she was naked and pure when he caught her alone in the open water. Her legs so smooth and vivid and brown as she fell away from him, thighs wide open and giving him a glimpse of the treasure there.
He felt the familiar rush of blood to his center.
His erection bobbed in the water, the weight of it making his yearning for her worse.
"Fuck!"
He was wound up once more, her not being there agitating him and making his body tight again.
The fingers of his right hand slid down his length and encircled his wide glans. He squeezed then twisted his frenulum, his left hand dropping down to fondle his sack. A barrage of images hit him, all of Yani with his hands on her, moving her into various positions. His breathing became more pronounced and he found himself panting as he stroked himself, the heat of his stiffness making his fingers sweat. Pea-sized beads of pre-cum laced his tip and he swirled it around the head and dragged the natural lubricant down his length. He let his head drop back, his locs covering his eyes, the sun beating down on him as he rutted between his fingers.
He felt his glutes flexing, his heels digging into the sand, his toes spreading as he fisted himself faster.
"Oh shit…this bitch…" he gasped, his eyes only seeing Yani's lips and the back of her neck, the spread of her hips…fuck even watching her ass cheeks move while she wore baggy track pants and sweats with an oversized t-shirt had his toes tucking sand underneath his feet now. He remembered the way her eyes shined when he told her he would make her call him Daddy and then her nipples looked like they were crying through her shirt…just like they did when he had his beard pressed near her face and his breath was in her ear talking about Jerome. She had run away. She had also run away when he first saw her on this beach when he had put on his clothes while watching her with her eyes closed to stay modest around him, when he told her he would check on the iguana to give her privacy…
She ran away. She ran away each time her milk…
Wait.
Was he causing her to do that? Secrete fluid…?
The harsh groan that left his mouth superseded the ejaculation that had his seed shooting out into the ocean. He watched his semen hit the water and float for a bit before sinking and the rest washing away with the bigger waves rolling in. He sunk down to his knees trying to catch his breath while the water rinsed his body. Even with that intense release, he wanted more.
And she wasn't there.
He needed her there. He needed to whisper in her ear. Needed to touch her breasts again. Needed to allow his hands to fall down the small of her back and pull her in closer to him. Needed her big brown eyes to look up into his eyes again.
"Yah get too comfortable, Killmonger."
That's what she told him before he made them titties pump.
Nah. He hadn't even begun to get comfortable with her.
###
It was the last hermit crab race of the day.
Yani spent two three-hour-long tours hiking tourists around and exploring Cas Cay the small deserted island they stood on. She gave the Eco Tour spiel about the tidal pools, volcanic cliffs, and the geological blowhole they observed before doing the crab races. The only thing they had left to do was spend time snorkeling in the coral-fringed mangrove nursery. She stood among the red mangrove trees with fifteen tourists wearing beachwear. Their kayaks were tied together and waiting for the last crab to clear the finish line. She was tired and feeling bloated from wolfing down a bacon sandwich when no one was paying attention to her as they all disembarked from the kayaks.
Checking her waterproof watch, she hustled the group to gather their snorkeling gear.
Back in her water element, Yani led the people to safe places to snorkel and kept watch for people who wandered off. She tread water with her snorkel gear resting on her forehead. One of the tourists, a red-faced man from Belgium who was part of a Princess Cruise line kept lingering near her. Yani could tell he was going underwater near her to look at her ass and chest. She was wearing basic board shorts, but her backside was a bit extra. Her tankini top had her tits smashed together and showing some cleavage, and every time she turned around the man was at arms- length distance, his underwater face aimed toward her. Perhaps if she were taller and her physique stretched out a bit, her ass and breasts wouldn't look so prominent. But she was just a tiny bit above average height and came from a family of short round curvy women. Most of her baby weight had dropped, but her Aunt Leona kept her fed well with the rich foods from Klaue's compound, so she was going to be hefting around extra for a minute.
"Sir, please respect my personal space," she told him when he came up to clear his googles of condensation. Her fingers twirled the cowrie shell choker that hung around her neck.
"Excuse me?" the man said, looking shocked that she said that to him out loud where others could hear.
"You are swimming too close to me."
The man's wife overheard her and came splashing over. Her pasty face blocking the sun from Yani's eyes.
"What's going on?" she said.
"I was telling him not to swim so close to me—"
"I was not swimming close to you. I swam past you—"
"Sir, I won't argue with you. I am simply asking you to—"
"Yani, what's happening?"
Ugh. Patrick, the Eco Tours assistant manager.
"This man has been looking at me underwater and I don't like it."
Patrick, as always, went into tourist damage control, ignoring her issue. His fake plastic smile attempting to smooth the tussled tourist feathers.
"I'm sorry for this," Patrick said to the tourist.
"Why are you sorry? I just asked him to stop—"
"Yani, it's time to start heading back. How about rounding up the others, please? Thank you."
"But this man—"
"Yani, do your job—"
"I am doing my job—"
"I really don't like her attitude or her accusations," the wife said.
"Your man was looking at my ass—"
Patrick gave her a look, his smile a frozen grimace. "I did not!" the man said, his accent thick and flustered once he saw the other tourists gathering around them.
"Yes, you were! My ass and my chest!"
Glancing around, Yani could feel eyes on her. Many sympathetic, but no one spoke up for her. Now she was beginning to feel like the odd man out. She took a deep breath. She needed this job. The hours were flexible and the pay was pretty good by island standards. Where else could she get paid to swim and play in the water? She decided to swallow her pride.
"You were swimming too close, that's all."
She walked away with her snorkeling gear in her hand and placed them in the lead kayak, the one she used to guide them all to the cay. Paddling back, she could hear the husband and wife barking at one another in French. Yani was happy to be rid of them as she collected gear to be sanitized for the next group of tourists.
When she was finished packing away all the gear and cleaning up the kayak launch area, Patrick called her into his office.
"I gave that couple a refund," Patrick said.
He sat behind the cash register and scrolled his cell while talking to her. Yani shrugged. One hundred and sixty dollars taken from the company.
"You used to be an awesome employee—"
"I still am. I get the best surveys, and I get the biggest tips—"
"Yeah…but lately, you've been moody and a little difficult—"
"How? When? Who has complained about me? I'm your best—"
"Not so much anymore—"
"You're a liar—"
"And you're fired. I just received the okay from Heather.'
"Did you tell her what that guy did?"
"I didn't see anything and neither did anyone else. You overreacted."
"Give me my money!"
Yani held out her hand.
"Heather has to cut you your final check—"
"No, you fire me on the spot, you give me my money on the spot—"
"I can't…"
Yani grabbed her phone from her work cubbyhole and dialed.
"Heather, if you fire me then you pay me right now. I swear to God I will bring my cousins back here if you don't tell Patrick to pay me. I'm going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau too. Or maybe I sue you. One of your customers made me uncomfortable and I only told him to stop…what? Yes, he's right here….do that then."
Yani hung up and the office phone rang. Patrick picked it up.
"Eco Tours…yeah, Heather…yeah…I didn't see anything, she just accused the guy. Okay…alright."
Patrick hung up. The second shift staff were filing in and some watched the expression on Yani's face as she held her hand out.
"Money, now!"
Patrick punched in a code on the register and it opened. He counted out two-hundred dollars in cash. All twenty-dollar bills. He handed it to Yani. She snatched it and stuffed it down her tankini. She stomped out of the office cursing under her breath. Kendall was waiting for her, his old Yamaha V-Star motorcycle spit-shined and propped up by its kickstand. He handed Yani his extra helmet.
"What's wrong with your face?"
"I got fired."
"What? Why?"
"Some dirty old man kept looking at my bumper and my tits. But they said I have a bad attitude. Take me home to my baby before I fight everyone in there."
Her cell rang.
"What Heather? No, it's not right. Patrick doesn't respect me or my work. You know I work hard. I make people return here. Two years Heather…how can you tell him to fire me and you don't have all the facts?"
Yani could see Kendall's face getting stressed listening to her. She patted his arm.
"I'll call you tomorrow, Heather. Yes, I have my money. Okay. Bye."
She thrust her phone into her tankini top right on top of her money.
"Boss Lady?" Kendall said.
"She wants to talk about what happened today. Gave me my job back. Scared I'll sue. All they had to do was believe me the first time and back me up. But them worried about foreign white people being unhappy. Kiss their asses and leave mine hanging."
She sucked her teeth and climbed onto the back of Kendall's bike.
The ride home to Red Hook was congested with cars as people made their way to popular tourist sites. Kendall weaved in and out of lanes and Yani enjoyed the sun warming her back and drying her work clothes. Resting her helmet on Kendall's shoulder as they waited at a slow traffic light, Yani felt herself beginning to get excited for Saturday night.
Eighteen months.
That was how long she had not gone out with friends. The moment she was pregnant, Chez had her locked down at home. When her parents made the decision for her not to stay with them, she still was pressured by Chez to stay indoors when she moved in with Leona. No lunch dates with her girlfriends. Family gatherings with her extended family lasted twenty minutes and then Chez was hustling her away. Even shopping for baby things was frowned upon.
He didn't want her out in public, didn't want her around people who could influence her decision to stay with him or not. When she stood up for herself, he bullied her with verbal abuse. He knew not to lay a hand on her because her family would slice his balls off, but Chez was a master of psychological warfare. Telling her she was fat and ugly and that nobody would want her if she left him. Called her lazy when she wanted to sleep because Sydette was a big baby while she was inside Yani's belly. All of this happened in the later stages of her pregnancy. In the beginning, he was sugary sweet to her, begging her not to abort when she had doubts about having a child with him, promising to be the best father ever.
But when her belly got big, he started in on her. By then it was too late. By then she knew he didn't really want to be a father but her controller. When she became disenchanted with him, the war for her self-esteem began. He wanted to keep her down. Only because he didn't want anyone else to have her when she was so openly done with him.
Chez slept around and then went after a woman that sniffed him out when he first had his record contract.
Ursula.
She was nothing like Yani at all. Ursula's family had a little money, some connections…the right skin tone, the right educational background. Chez may have thought Ursula was a step up for him, but he was most definitely a step down for Ursula by the way her family reacted to him. Their friends used to tease Chez and call him the Dark Gable of the island. Tall and lean, Chez had gorgeous skin that was like midnight silk and a smile that looked like diamonds lived in his mouth. Yani's dream boyfriend. God, she loved him so. Loved him with all the naïve stupidity that young girls had when first love is acute, visceral…painful in its honesty because they have nothing to compare it to. She let him use her body as much as he wanted because that was her man, and her man could have anything he wanted at any time. If he called her late at night and said come over now, she was hopping on that dick quick-quick, even eating his ass if he wanted, which he loved.
To walk into a club or a house party with him was the epitome of being a celebrity in their tiny world. Chez had that "it" factor that made people into stars, and that was the fantasy made false when he became popular. It started with Chez doing a few bars here and there on songs by other up-and-coming artist's mixtapes. Then there was the indie single he put out that had Yani singing the hook for him. She wore revealing clothes for him onstage, simulated fellatio on him at performances…anything to help him succeed. He told her constantly that money was on the way and she could go to school on his dime. They were on their way. When the contract came through and they took their first trip to Florida, Yani's parents fell for the pipedream too. Once they allowed her to take a gap year and saw how good Chez was to her, they loosened their grip on their relationship.
But then Sydette was conceived.
Next came the rumors of the girl with the long loose curls and rich background hanging with Chez's entourage when Yani wasn't around. Rumors of Chez texting the same girl late at night to come jump on his dick. Then the non-rumor of Chez running behind some pregnant girl buying new baby clothes when Yani was laid up with stitches inside her torn and still bleeding vagina as she tried getting Sydette to latch onto her nipple and suck. The non-rumor of some girl driving around the island in Chez's car with a baby girl that looked exactly like Chez, but with hazel eyes and skin the color of the sand Yani stuck her toes in on Klaue's private beach.
Lookie.
"You quiet, Yani," Kendall said, trying to sneak his motorcycle past a hotel delivery truck.
"Just thinking about you performing tomorrow. And me looking cute."
"You know Chez will come."
"I know. I don't care."
"Does Zachary have to come?"
"I'm tired of people asking me that. Chez nuh own me. He can't control who I see. I like Zachary. He is good to me and Sydette. Do you know how hard it is to find and date a man when you have a pickney hanging off your tit? I deserve to have fun with a boyfriend."
"Oh, he's your boyfriend now?"
"Working on it. We are exclusive now. Moving slow and easy. Still dating, not a couple-couple yet, but we agreed to see only each other,"
The words came out and Yani felt the whispery ghost of guilt when she thought of what Erik had done. What she had allowed.
He was dangerous.
Scary.
Persuasive without saying a word.
What if he wanted to do that again and she didn't?
All the men at the compound carried firearms. He could put a gun to her head and force her if he really wanted to. Catch her walking down to the beach alone…
She shook her head, bumping her helmet into Kendall. "Easy back there," he said.
Traffic began to pick up a bit once they passed the docks.
Twyla was standing out on the apartment balcony with Sydette when Kendall pulled his bike in to park.
"Look. It's Mommy!" Twyla said helping Sydette wave down to Yani.
"Hi, Sweet Pea!" Yani called up, and she could see her daughter’s chubby legs kicking at the sound of her voice.
With her daughter in her arms, Yani smothered her with kisses, pleased to know she had the next two days to herself. Monday would be interesting only because the new men would be arriving at the compound, and she was curious to see who would be joining the wild bunch already there.
"She ate already," Twyla said tickling Sydette's barefoot.
"Why you have my baby in only a diaper? People think I can't afford clothes for her."
"Too hot for clothes, huh Sydette? Too hot to be wearing all that extra material," Twyla said. She reached out and touched Yani's hair. "You want me to touch up this color? Your roots are coming out."
"Should I change the color? I saw this platinum shade that would look so good on me."
"You don't want something darker?"
"I look good with light hair. Makes mi skin look like brown sugar. Cuz you know girls, girls dem sugah…"
"…the girls dem need this nigga, yah!" Twyla finished by winding her hips and giggling.
Sydette stared at them both then grabbed for Yani's cowrie shell necklace.
"Zachary keeps calling. You give him some already?" Twyla said.
Yani slapped Twyla's arm.
"We are courting still."
Twyla rolled her eyes
"Twist my locs?"
"No. I just got home. I'm tired. My hands are tired—"
"You want blonde hair again?"
Yani frowned.
"Let me rest for at least an hour."
"I'll give you two. I have to wash my hair first."
Entering the apartment, Yani was met by another cousin, Dex, who sat in front of the TV eating cereal.
"Yani!" Dex shouted.
"You still giving Twyla and Kendall a ride tomorrow?"
"Yes. I'm bringing Boogie and Donald too. Cee Cee is bringing Dulan and Sonya."
Yani looked at Kendall.
"See? You thought your family was going to be too busy and all your favorite cousins are coming."
Kendall beamed and poured himself a bowl of cereal.
"Auntie coming home today?" Dex asked.
"Tomorrow night," she said.
Dex clapped his hands.
"Just make sure you clean up this place before she gets here."
A two-bedroom apartment and a sleeper-couch housed a baby and five adults. Everyone worked and everyone contributed to the household. Leona worked six days a week on the compound when Klaue was around, and less than two times a week when he was gone. Her nieces and nephews covered her rent for the place in exchange for staying there while she was away.
Dex was happy because he would be able to sleep in a bed for one more night before returning to the couch with Kendall.
"What you cook?" Yani said sitting on the couch rocking Sydette in her arms.
"Got take-out," Dex said stretching his arm and reaching for Sydette's foot.
"Beef Patties?"
"Burger King."
Yani rolled her eyes.
"You don't have to eat it."
"I won't," she said popping Dex in his head.
"Stop that," Dex said.
Sydette reached out and grabbed Dex's hair, her fingers slipping through his matted curls.
"Ow…girl…"
He unhooked Sydette's fingers from his scalp.
Kendall dropped down on the couch next to Yani.
"She's bringing Zachary," Kendall said.
Dex glanced over at Kendall and then Yani.
"Yani…" Dex whined.
"I don't care what you say," she said lifting Sydette up and checking her diaper.
"This is why we end up having drama—"
"Won't be no drama—"
"You know how Chez is—"
"And? He laid up with that hoe and another baby. Fuck I care? I'm there to support my family. Zachary is taking me out to dinner and then we are coming to the club. This is a special night for we and I won't listen to that man's name being uttered in my ear."
Her tone of voice made it final.
"Who is watching Sydette?" Kendall asked.
"Anika."
Yani's youngest sister agreed to watch her baby mainly so she could have her little boyfriend hang out with her at Leona's apartment. Ever since Yani's baby mishap, her younger siblings had been under a strict regime. No boys or men allowed in the house. So they had to sneak. Yani wasn't worried about her sixteen-year-old sister though, Leona would be there to keep an eye on them. Anika was still at the holding hands stage with boys, and the young man she was smitten with was a cornball who loved Anika because she loved anime like Yani, and played RPG games like a pro. Love at first online game.
Yani rubbed Sydette's back. Her daughter was resting against her neck and falling asleep. She could smell the fresh clean smell of baby shampoo in her child's hair, and the deep comfortable breathing she had when she was in her mommy's arms.
Yani reached into her tankini and pulled out her cell and her money. She shoved the cash in Dex's face.
"Take this for the house phone and light bill and put the rest on Auntie's cell phone bill," she said.
"I already covered all that, you keep this for school and Sydette," Dex said folding the bills back up and putting it into her hand.
"You sure?"
"I was able to get extra hours at the Job, so I'm good. They didn't hire too many seasonal workers this quarter."
Yani leaned over and kissed her cousin on the forehead. Every little bit helped. She could apply some of that cash for taking her TEAS test, the first step in trying to get into nursing school on the island. The aptitude test would assess if she had the skills to qualify as a nurse, and the administrative fee was eighty dollars. The rest of the money she would use to get Sydette diapers and some new baby bottles since she broke two of them transferring them home the other day. Any leftover money was going towards some new sneakers. The rubber on the back of her Nike kicks were peeling and crazy glue wasn't helping to save them anymore.
"Can you watch her while I shower?"
Dex took the sleeping baby in his arms and Yani walked into her bedroom and grabbed clean clothes and underwear.
Sleep.
She wanted a long uninterrupted sleep and a plate of beef patties with melted cheese. And some strawberry ice cream with rainbow sprinkles.
Cool water woke up her skin, and she quickly cleaned her body. Rinsing off, her fingers trailed over her areolas, gently skimmed the tips of her breasts as Erik's face came to mind. All day he had been flitting in and out of her thoughts. How would she face him on Monday? It would be difficult to pretend that nothing happened because she couldn't trust her own body around him anymore. She had kissed him, so how could she serve breakfast or lunch, or even clean the pool properly if she would have to look at his lips and not think about them being on hers? Why didn't she say no when he asked to touch her? It would've been so easy to walk away and just deal with her breasts, leave the compound and just ignore him for the rest of his stay.
Her Aunt would catch on too because Leona caught every subtle look, word, or action in that place. She had to. These were bad men who pretended not to be bad, who often spoke in code around them. Auntie would be very cautious and her eyes would be wide open. Watching for anything to be off or strange. Yani knew with absolute certainty that they were really bad men when Leona had her help clean Klaue's personal house and she showed Yani a secret escape passage that Klaue revealed to her in case anything ever happened on the compound. Leona was never to reveal this passageway to anyone who came there. Everyone except for Yani.
The compound was usually pleasant and nothing terrible had ever happened. Only the occasional hurricane threats brought any worry. When Klaue was gone overseas or back in his home country, the compound was paradise and the energy felt lighter to work in. She would swim in the pool, sunbathe, or read books on the patio and pretend to be a spoiled rich girl.
She found it greedy of rich white people like Klaue to own so much property and hardly ever be there to use it when her own family would kill for the space to live on their own island. Three houses sat empty eighty percent of the time simply because some foreigner had money to waste. How nice it would be to let her daughter crawl around on the private beach, or float on a little raft with a view of her own sea? Maybe one day run around through beautiful plants and trees with Jerome? Lay on a big soft bed like the one Erik had in his room all the time.
Her fingers played with her nipples until they were stiff. She turned off the water and stood naked, feeling the pleasure of her own touches. Her fingers on her right hand dropped down to separate the folds of her prominent inner labia. She manipulated the slippery skin, inserting the middle and ring finger of her right hand inside her vagina. She proceeded to thrust in and out as she pictured Erik's hand working his erection, the slit on his tip dripping…
Yani grabbed the detachable shower nozzle and switched the mode to pulse and placed it over her throbbing clit. She had to hurry, wasting water was a no-no. Gently sliding the hood of her clit back and letting the water splash on her perfect pink spot almost brought her to delicious completion until a knock on the bathroom door interrupted her. "You almost done in there?"
Kendall's voice broke the serenity of her self-pleasuring. She removed her fingers and rinsed off completely before shutting off the water. She didn't bother to dry off, just threw on clean panties and a sky-blue cotton bathrobe. She ran a roller of deodorant under her armpits then opened the bathroom door.
"All yours," she said.
She went into the bedroom she shared with Twyla to find some shorts and a top.
"Yani!"
Dex called out to her from the living room.
"You need something?" she asked, thinking Sydette was fretting because she wanted her.
Dex was standing at the open front door.
"Where's Sydette?" she asked.
Dex nodded his head outside the apartment entrance.
Yani padded over to find Chez standing outside holding Sydette in his arms. She reached for her baby. Chez took a step back from her hands.
"She's fine. I'm her father, calm yourself," Chez said.
Her daughter's eyes stared at Chez like he was a stranger with bad energy. Her little face vacillated between pre-tears and fretting. Soft little grunts of air escaped her lips.
Hair twisted into tiny peppercorn sized locs around his scalp, and a new gold-chained necklace hanging from his neck, Chez stared at her bathrobe, his eyes focusing on her breasts.
"You with someone?"
"I just got out of the shower. What do you want?" her voice was rushed, her eyes focused on Sydette. He made her nervous holding her.
He pulled a wad of cash from his pocket. She took it and counted it. Fifty dollars.
"That's it?" she asked. He owed her way more than that.
"You know I have other responsibilities—"
"You are two months behind, Chez—"
"When I get more, I'll give you more. You are working and making enough money—"
"I work three fucking jobs! If you gave me what we needed, what we agreed on, then I could quit one of them and be with our baby more since you don't want to spend time with her—"
"I'm here aren't I? I'm holding her now, right?"
"It would help me if you could keep her sometimes—"
A car horn honked.
Chez looked behind him.
"Stop honking the goddamn horn!"
His raised voice startled Sydette and she started crying, her arms reaching for Yani.
"Stop crying," Chez said, his arm pulling Sydette away from Yani.
"Give me my baby," Yani said. She tried to keep her face calm. The car horn honked again.
"Stop pressing on the fucking horn, Ursula!"
The yell from Chez's voice made Sydette wail. Yani grabbed her child and yanked her away from Chez.
"You brought your bitch to my house?"
"Watch your tongue—"
Yani stepped around Chez to get a good look at Ursula sitting in the passenger seat of Chez's car. The apartment was on the second floor of a two-story building.
"You can afford to pay what? Five hundred dollars a month for that car, but you come bring me fifty dollars? How do I stretch this out for a month for your baby?"
Yani cradled Sydette's head against her neck. Calm gurgles came from her daughter's mouth now that she was out of Chez's arms.
"I'm doing the best I can, Yani."
"So am I. But I'm tired. Our baby deserves better. I deserve better. It's not right how you treat us—"
"Chez, let's go!"
Ursula stepped out from the passenger side of the silver sporty Honda. She held Chez's other daughter in her arms.
"Your woman is calling you," Yani said.
"When I get some more cash I'll bring it to you."
Yani reached out and pulled on the new gold necklace draped on his neck.
"How much this set you back, huh? Give it to me so I can pawn it."
Chez pulled her hand off of him. He leaned over and kissed Sydette on the cheek. He pulled on Yani's robe at the waist and kissed her on her cheek too.
"I have some money coming in soon. I'll be able to pay back what I owe you and then some. Okay?"
Yani stepped back from him.
"Chez!" Ursula's voice was incessant, "we need to go!"
"Stop yelling in front of my home!" Yani shrieked down to her.
Chez herded her back into the doorway of the apartment.
"Why did you bring her with you? You always try to hurt me, rub my nose in your trash," she said.
"She's not your issue. I'm here for the baby. I'll see you soon."
He rubbed the top of Sydette's head and bounded down the walkway to hit the stairs.
Ursula had a smug look on her face as Chez came back to her.
"Get your butt in the car," Chez said slamming his driver's side door shut.
When they were gone, Yani stood on the balcony trying to keep it together.
"Yani?"
Twyla came out to be with her.
"Everything okay?"
"Yeah. He just…" She held up the money.
"Fuck them," Twyla said.
"What did I ever see in him?"
"Don't drag yourself. You were young and in love. Just like many people. He fucked it up by being a jerk. That's not your fault."
Yani held Sydette close to her heart.
No matter what Twyla said, Yani would always feel like loving him was her fault. Her fault for choosing him willingly.
And now her baby had to suffer.
###
Zachary had gone to the bathroom when the man with the dark flashy eyes approached Yani by one of the big speakers near the make-shift stage inside of Rush. He wasn't white, or Latin as his swarthy skin and wavy dark hair suggested. He was dressed like he had money…plenty of it. He was a little tipsy, but in a cute flirty way.
"You are a Goddess and I want to marry you," he said. His voice had an accent like he was from one of those places that always had America fighting. Iran? Saudi Arabia? Iraq?
"I'm sorry, but I am taken," she said. She gave him a smile when his face looked hurt by the response.
"If I told you I needed you tonight, would you come with me?"
The man's eyes were shiny and the mirth in his voice made Yani laugh instead of flicking him aside like a mosquito.
"If you ever change your mind, Goddess, I am here for you."
He gave an exaggerated bow and Yani walked past him to greet her cousins who had all arrived in a pack, shifting the energy in the room with Galibar essence. Their family was well-known, and it was easy to move in the space knowing family was around looking out for her.
Hands on her waist spun her around and Zachary pulled her in for a hug. He was happy and excited to be out with her, constantly pulling her out onto the center of the dance floor so people could see them. It was nice to be with a man who was proud to be with her. Their dinner together had been perfect, the food excellent, and when they arrived at the club Yani felt more like herself again. She wasn't a mommy, or someone's girlfriend, or some worker bee running from job to job…she was just Yani and hanging out with grown-ups, responsible for no one but herself.
She dressed like a star. New make-up she saved up for. Gold choker on her throat. A long yellow dress she ordered online from the States that had cute green and red shapes on it that made her skin look bronzed by the sun. She did feel like a Goddess as her dress flowed around her hips with a small slit at the bottom that gave a tiny peek of her left leg. She even let her cleavage show just straight feeling herself. She allowed herself to drink liquor knowing she had milk bottled at home for Sydette for the next day. She was going to savor this night for a long time.
She extended hugs to her relatives and friends who hadn't seen her out in months. Compliments flowed and Zachary constantly hyped her up. When other men stared at her, Zachary's chest puffed out with pride. She liked how he was secure with thirsty eyes on her.
Rush was filled with gorgeous women, and Yani was happy that she could feel pretty again, not schlepping around in her usual sneakers and sweatpants. Her gold lace-up sandals gave her toes a little trouble at first, but now she was used to them as she moved with Zachary.
Wall to wall patrons crammed into the space and she was happy that Kendall would have an enthusiastic crowd to hear him live.
"Let me have my cousin," Dex said grabbing Yani's hand and taking her over to Monice and Twyla. Zachary nodded and watched her be ushered near the side of the bar.
"Kendall is having a panic attack," Dex said.
"What?" she said.
"He's over by the D.J. booth. I tried talking him down, but he's super nervous and says he can't remember his setlist, and one of his singers isn't coming…he's in a panic. I told Dex to find you," Twyla said.
"Jesus Christ," she said.
Yani waved Zachary over.
"Kendall is losing it, I have to talk to him," she said.
"Want me to go with you?" Zachary asked.
"Yeah, he needs some cheerleaders right now," Yani said.
She held Zachary's hand as she pushed past dancers, the deep bass in the club vibrating through her body. She could see her poor sweet cousin Kendall leaned up against the D.J. booth, his eyes closed and his hands balled into fists. Yani knew the butterflies of pre-performance jitters, but she learned early on to use her nerves to give a good performance. But Kendall was new to this, accustomed to backing other people on stage, not being the center of attention on his own. She hoped he could get through this because a ton of people paid money to come see a show, and he was one of the headliners. His first time being that. It would be a disaster if he couldn't get it together.
"Oh! It's my Goddess again! Here is that vision I was telling you about-!"
That guy again.
Oh shit.
He wasn't alone.
Yani halted in her tracks when she saw Erik sitting next to the Arab man at the bar. Locs cornrowed on his head, eyes relaxed from the drink in his hand, Erik's gaze took her in like he didn't recognize her. Something flickered in his eyes and he leaned forward, his free hand reaching out like he was going to touch her until he saw Zachary next to her.
"Killmonger," she heard herself say.
"The fuck yuh doin' here?!"
Chez's voice almost made her legs buckle when he stalked over to her and grabbed her elbow.
A nightmare made real.
Yani stood still, her eyes darting between three men who were aware of one another and sizing one another up.
"Hey, what is this?" the dark-haired Arab man with the reverent voice said.
Yani grimaced when she felt Chez's fingers digging into her skin. He was pulling her away from Zachary, his hot eyes raking up and down her body taking in how she was dressed.
Yani released her hand from Zachary's and placed it on Chez's arm to try and pry him off. He wouldn't let go, his grip tightening. It hurt.
Erik stood up.
"Take your hand off her."
Erik's voice sounded deadly like it could kill someone in seconds with the terse tone.
His friend stood up with him, feeding into the warning energy Erik gave off. At that moment, Yani knew the Arab man was one of Klaue's men too. Chez had no clue who was confronting him.
"Mind yours, breh. This my baby's mother—"
"—don't give a fuck who she is to you. Back off her—"
Yani's eyes went to Zachary and he stood there not sure what to do, confused as to who Erik was and why he was intruding.
"I need to talk to Kendall!" she shouted shoving Chez away from her. She stomped away from them all. She could hear Erik and Chez going back and forth and when she glanced behind her, she saw her cousin Dex and Dulan pulling Chez away from Erik who was smiling at Chez, his thick neck moving side to side like he was ready to body her ex.
Zachary was right behind her, his face stressed.
"You know he was here?" Zachary asked.
"Why should I care?"
"Who was that other guy? He acted like he knows you—"
"Kendall!"
Yani touched her cousin's neck and his eyes flew open.
"Yani. I feel like I want to throw up," he whispered.
"Calm yourself. It's okay. This is normal—"
"No, it don't feel normal."
"Tell me your songs," she said.
"Bumper…um…Phase Two…Crash Land…She Sez…"
"Good, you know the order and everything. What happened to your back-up?"
"Gloria is here, but Asha is a no show. I go on in ten minutes and Gloria doesn't want to go up without Asha—"
"That's some bullshit," Twyla said easing up next to Kendall and handing him a cup of ice water. She made him drink and rubbed his back. They both could see Kendall calming down.
"Do you have music with their voices already recorded?" Yani asked.
"No."
"Where is Gloria?" Yani asked.
Kendall shrugged.
Yani glanced around the club looking for Gloria. Zachary stood near her, his face looking flustered.
"What?"
"You're not worried about Chez starting something again?" Zachary asked.
"My cousins will snatch him up if he tries something again. Don't worry about him—"
"You still didn't answer me about that other guy—"
"What other guy?" Yani said still scanning the crowd for Kendall's singer.
"The big dude—"
"Zachary, I'm trying to help Kendall, okay?"
"What is Gloria wearing?" he asked.
"She has on one of my shirts, red with me on my motorcycle. She has a big afro…" said Kendall.
"I'll go look," Zachary said.
"Thank you, Zachary," Yani said. She squeezed his arm and watched him leave.
She could see the patrons positioning themselves closer to the stage.
"Hey, Kendall, we doing alright?"
The club D.J., Junior leaned over from his booth, worry on his face.
"He's fine!" Yani said making her voice sound cheerful.
"What?! Yani!" Junior said stepping down from his spot in the booth.
He gave Yani a big hug.
"You look good!" he said.
"Here for my cousin," she said looking over at Kendall, encouraging him to perk up more.
"Are your girls ready Kendall? I have hot mics ready for them. We go on in five—"
"Found her!" Zachary said ushering Gloria back over. The girl looked petrified.
"Kendall, I can't go up by myself—"
"You have to, he needs you to start the song to introduce him!" Twyla interjected, the peevishness in her voice hard to ignore.
"It won't sound right with just me—"
"Make it sound right, you're not gonna fuck up my cousin's show little girl," Twyla said getting into Gloria's face.
"Twyla, that's not helping her—" Yani said.
"Show goes on now, you doing this or not Kendall?"
Junior was all business.
Kendall's eyes sought out Yani.
"Gloria, please, this is where you have to be professional. The show goes on even if part of your crew isn't here. You can't let Kendall down," Yani said.
"Gloria, please," Kendall said.
"Kendall, it's time," Junior said climbing back into the booth. He held out a mic for Kendall and Gloria.
Gloria reached for the mic and Yani felt a sigh of relief flow through her.
"Are you ready for some great music?" Junior called out on his mic as he punched keys on his computer cueing up Kendall's tracks. A roar of "Yes!" came back from the crowd.
Yani held her hands clasped together in front of her silently praying that all things would work in Kendall's favor. Gloria had the mic in her hand, but she looked like she was ready to run.
Junior dropped Kendall's opening track and the room absolutely jumped with the massive bassline. Yani felt her cheeks pull tight as she smiled hard. The track was slapping so good. Gloria stepped forward and started humming, her lackluster energy killing the vibe already.
"Ohmigod, this bitch!" Twyla shouted.
"Give her a chance," Yani said as she bit into her lip, her own nerves scattered when she saw Gloria tanking the performance before it even began.
There were titters from the crowd and many of the people who had been swinging when the beat first dropped now stood still trying to figure out how it all went so wrong in fifteen seconds.
"Give me that goddamn mic you stupid girl!" Twyla said racing onto the platform that was used for the stage.
"Yani, c'mon," Twyla said shoving Gloria aside, "give me back again," Twyla said to Junior who synced the music back to the beginning.
Yani shook her head at Twyla.
"Yani…" Kendall whispered.
Kendall's eyes were wild-looking, his nerves frayed, and at that moment, Yani knew she had to do whatever it took to salvage this for him.
She stepped onto the stage and grabbed a mic that Junior held out for her. The music rattled the walls once more and the club lights lit up and heated her face. She quickly focused on what she needed to do. This was Kendall's first track…"Bumper"…an ode to asses. She heard Kendall rap to this track for weeks, had to hear the hook being sung every damn day she came home from work while he was in the shower.
Twyla wound her hips to the dancehall-tinged track and when her eyes met Yani's, she nodded her head and they both faced the audience and gave Kendall a proper introduction.
###
Tahir had been mumbling about some woman he saw when he went to the restroom, but Erik found himself trying to avoid Isis, the girl he slept with at the Marriott.
She spotted him at the bar and Erik made sure to stay cordial, but she was cramping his style by hanging off of him the way women did after he messed with them. She looked amazing in her peek-a-boo skintight white dress and red heels, but he was not feeling her at all. Even when he introduced her to Tahir who was extremely good-looking, Isis stuck to him like cops on a niggas ass. He was already pulling women that could help him get through his stay on the island, but this bird was clucking too much.
He went dancing with a random girl who walked past him and Isis still didn't get the hint. Finally, he was just straight up with her saying he was just trying to have fun with his friend and wasn't interested in hooking up that night. She was buzzing from drinking rum and his words didn't seem to halt her advances until he physically left her at one side of the main bar and moved with Tahir on the other side.
Tahir was in island heaven, his eyes taking in all the sights of bright lights, heavy Soca and Hip Hop beats, and the thickolicious women roaming the club, so many of them single.
"I swear to you she must be in the employ of a jinn, her eyes…may Allah bless me with a wife with eyes like that…. Oh! It's my Goddess again! Here is that vision I was telling you about-!"
Tahir shoved Erik's shoulder and he turned to see Yani walking toward them. When she stopped in front of them Erik thought fate was fucking with him because she had just crossed his mind again, him wondering if she was out on the floor dancing or on her way to the club. His eyes couldn't release her from their hold as he saw what she looked like outside of cleaning and cooking for the compound. It was her, totally her, but she was just so…
He couldn't even figure out the words before he was reaching out to touch her, wanting to already pull her into his arms and keep her next to him. But then he saw her fingers entwined with a man standing behind her.
He heard her say his name, not the one he wanted her to call him, but the one he hid behind, and she still made the harshness of it sound so sweet to his ears. He longed to pull on the straps of her dress, slip one down from her shoulder and place his lips on the skin there. The gold choker on her neck made him want to place his hand there and squeeze, push her against a wall and pull up the gauzy dress she wore that made her curves too visible for his comfort. He knew what was under that dress and he wanted to see it again. See it on his bed, her legs stretched open wall to wall, her big eyes looking up at him when he entered her heat…
Before he could even gather himself and act chill, (as if the sight of her with some other man didn't bother him when it clearly did agitate him), another dude was yelling at Yani, man-handling her as if he owned her.
Erik saw Yani grimace and that was it.
When she broke away from her baby's father, he wanted to follow her, but the other guy she was with trailed behind her and the baby daddy started to act buck with Erik.
"You ain't gon' do shit, bruh," Erik told him, even laughing at dude when he started flexing for the crowd, but not really trying to go there with Erik. Two other men came over and pulled the man away, calling him "Chez" and Erik made a mental note to check the guy out. He was so quick to come down on Yani, Erik got the feeling the dude was trouble and could retaliate.
"You know her?" Tahir finally said when the commotion calmed down.
"She works at the compound for Klaue."
Tahir's eyes perked up, but when he glanced at Erik, he got the hint that she was off-limits.
He sat back and sipped on his rum again, his eyes scanning for Yani and spotting her near the D.J. booth talking to some people. A huge banger thumped through the speakers and Erik head-bobbed with everyone else as they all watched a cute woman climb onstage. She started humming and then her voice faded under the music.
Did she forget the words or something?
Another woman came on stage and snatched the mic from the first girl and told the D.J. to start the song over. That slamming intro whopped everyone over the head again, and this time he watched Yani climb onstage and join the new girl and they sang a hook that made the crowd go buck wild.
Shit. They sounded good, Better than good.
"Is that my Goddess again?" Tahir squeaked, bouncing on his feet.
Erik stood up and rocked along with the club patrons. The smokey deeper alto of the other singer cradled Yani's honey voice, the harmonies flowing to a young dude who bounced on stage, his energy high and infectious as he spit bars that elevated the music even more. Kendall. Erik yanked out his cell and began recording for Leona.
"Fucking incredible," Tahir said nodding his head and raising his hand when Kendall told the crowd to.
Yani and the other woman rocked behind him as Kendall extolled the virtues of why he loved a woman's ass. Yani and the woman bounced their ass cheeks to the beat, turning sideways so the audience could see what they had, and Erik felt a groan clamp down in his throat watching Yani stick her tongue out playfully and shake her cheeks low, her left hand clutching the hem of her dress as she showed everyone the outline of high-grade shelf booty.
The first song ended and Kendall introduced Yani and his other cousin Twyla. Both women bowed to the audience and stood behind Kendall as he went into another song that was just as good.
The kid was good, a little shaky on his transitions, but he held the audience pretty well. The second song didn't have a need for Twyla or Yani, so they just danced together being excellent hype women for their cousin who had pretty decent bars and clever delivery. The last two songs they joined back in and when Kendall was done with his set, he received hearty applause and whistles from the crowd.
"Now we have to pay our respects people…," the D. J. said, "Yani…Yani…come back up here love."
Yani took to the stage again as Kendall stood next to her beaming.
"Yani sang on Tattler's mixtape two years ago, and was on Big C's song 'Recognize Me', yuh remember? She's our Black mermaid!"
Murmurs from the crowd let him know they knew those tracks.
"Yani, take us back for a minute girl…please…"
The D. J. dropped a tune and the crowd shouted. Yani covered her face as Kendall laughed and patted her back. It was a hybrid of dancehall and a tiny bit of dub.
"I came here to watch my cousin perform and chill with my family Junior!" she said.
"For old times sake, Yani. We've missed you, love. Sincerely. You a real one."
The D.J.'s words triggered something in her and Yani covered her eyes. She burst out crying. Erik stepped forward wanting to touch her face and wipe those tears away, but Kendall stepped up and rubbed her back, whispering something in her ear.
"We love you, Yani!"
A woman's shout from the crowd, made Yani lift her head up.
Erik put his cell phone down.
"You got this, Yani!" Erik yelled at her. Yani's face gazed back toward his direction and the audience agreed with him by clapping for her.
"Turn me up," she said to the D.J. and he made her mic a little louder, "Can I freestyle? I don't want to sing that old version. Mi nuh want anything that reminds me of my ex."
The crowd laughed.
"Do what you feel, Yani," the D.J. said.
The music brought her back and Erik knew she couldn't see him, not with those bright ass lights on her face, but she stayed gazing out in his direction.
"Yuh my likkle water boy,
Wind me up like I'm yuh brand new toy
Yuh bring new kinds of joy
And me wahn some more
Wull on pon me
Wull on pon me
Wull on pon me and take away all me stress…"
Her flow had him moving his hips along with everyone else.
"Did you know she could do that?" Tahir asked, his fingers popping and his feet bouncing side to side.
"Her Aunt said she sang," Erik said, mesmerized.
"Me wahn to peel yuh like some fresh ripe fruit
Lick you down like my Auntie's soup
Got me pattin' on my kitty cat
Me suspect
You wahn grip my neck
Lookie,
I'll let you whisper me the rest
I promise this no test
Stop makin me vex
Come wull pon me…."
Fuck.
She was singing to him.
Erik felt the hairs on his neck raise. Her voice was way too intimate and the lyrics too specific to be about anyone else other than him. Her tone was seductive and she hadn't changed the direction of her stance facing his way.
"Lookie
Won't you come over love
So I can show you love
Promise I got enough to give you all you need
Lookie
Some lovers search to find a love like mine
A love as good as mine
I'll never waste your time
Such a vibe…"
When she finished, she giggled and let the mic hit the side of her hip. Erik felt like everyone could see that the smile on his face was for her and only her. Kendall hugged her and the club patrons clapped.
"Give it up for Yani, the Black Mermaid, yeah!"
"She needs to be home takin' care of her pickney!"
Chez's voice rang out loud and rude.
Yani's head turned in his direction, and Erik felt ready to stomp the nigga out right in front of her.
"What kinda mother hang out in a club with tits out like that? Shame!"
"Fuck you!" Yani yelled out to him and the crowd laughed.
Erik spotted Chez leaning on the other side of the bar.
"Out here being a hoe. You no hot girl no more—"
The crowd heckled Chez back.
"It's ok, it's ok, him try to shame me. It not gon' work. You want this smoke, Chez? I give it to you. Junior, give me Chez's beat. That old Big C joint he couldn't make pop."
Yani stepped to the edge of the stage.
"Run that beat back fuh mi," she said, "I see you. I got your hoe right here."
Chez threw his hands up egging her on.
"What you got for me, huh, bitch? What? You got nothin'!"
Erik felt his jaw clench.
"And dis a wah mi get fi understand Seh yuh cya keep yuh dick inna yuh pants Yuh think seh fucking every gyal mek yuh feel more like a man Yuh supposed to be my right hand, my go to And nobody nuh fi come to me about you Cause when yuh down, I lift you up I keep you moving when yuh stuck Yuh ma nigga you supposed to be my goku Or my best friend, who yuh texting Everyday yuh seh dem gyal yah upsetting But I'm patiently waiting Because anuh my time dem wasting Anuh my time dem wasting
Yuh tired dickhole
Pack up and leave if yuh nuh want mi Cause mi honestly rather be lonely Yuh nav nuh time fi me, yuh all fi yuh self, I see Pack up and leave if yuh nuh want mi Cause mi honestly rather be lonely Yuh nav nuh time fi we
No time fi Sydette or mi…"
Erik shoved his fist up to his mouth along with everyone else in the club as heads turned in Chez's direction.
"See, that's what happens when you come for me," Yani said.
She handed the mic back to Junior and stepped away from the stage with Kendall's arm thrown around her neck. The laughter was ferocious and it cut Chez deep, especially when she mentioned Sydette at the end.
Erik strolled over to the man to keep an eye on him, but Chez turned around and stormed out of the club with his boys.
He watched Yani get pats on the back and hugs as she made her way over to the bar. When her eyes caught him again, he thought he would have a chance to talk to her, but her boyfriend entwined his fingers with hers and took her out to dance.
Erik grabbed the nearest woman's hand and pulled her out on the floor with him.
Anything to be near Yani...

ProtoDungeon: Episode II
(Quasi)Daily Updates Thus Far
Tumblr media
Hey all!
ProtoDungeon Episode II (TWC prequel) is coming along nicely, and I’m building out a lot of vital systems for it, future episodes, and The Waking Cloak. I also began a sort-of-daily update on the Discord server that I’ve been meaning to post here but keep forgetting to because I am a scattered, scattered person.
Anyway, uh, yeah, there are a lot of these, lol. I’ll try to post these more regularly in the future, but I hope this is fun and informative for those of you who like reading weirdly specific details about gamedev.
Daily Update - May 24, 2019
Summing up what I've already done before today: -Ring mechanics are done -Day, night, and light sensors are done (though don't have any art) -Created an object that will switch day/night
Today: - Reworking my "interaction" code so that you stop walking after interacting with something during the walk state.
Daily Update - May 25, 2019 -Finally resolved the "interact" code by adding a new player state. Now the player actually stops when interacting with objects instead of just walking into them the whole time. -Fixed a small bug where dialogue boxes would show up with the first message already "fast-forwarded" to the end with no sound. -Started working on polishing up the day/night switcher object (this is what the interact code was for). Should be important in this dungeon since the player won't have the cloak!
Daily Update - May 26, 2019 -I tend to take Sundays easy. I worked on a bed sprite for like ten minutes though!
Daily Update -  May 27, 2019 -Added the ring and its upgrades to the test room! We're now technically ready for super early patron alpha testing, which I'll put up sometime in the secret patron channel in the next few days!
Daily Update - May 28, 2019 -Set up the Itch build for pre-alpha patron testing -Worked on figuring out how to clarify the day/night and ring mechanics, visually -Began sketching out dungeon layout, now that I have mechanics set (as opposed to Episode I where I had to retrofit my design a few times after it was mostly done).
Daily Update - May 30, 2019 -Finished the rough draft of the dungeon layout!!!
Daily Update - May 31, 2019 -Finished the second draft of the dungeon map, including several more detailed rooms with puzzle designs
Daily Update - June 1, 2019 - Finished the THIRD draft of the dungeon map, think I've finally got the layout and puzzle locations pretty much settled (it's been a toughie with day/night/dayshift/nightshift)
Daily Update - June 3, 2019 -Updated level 2 of the Ring of Starlight to generate two blocks instead of one block with a dayshift/nightshift effect. This is like what was originally level 3, except the blocks will move in sync with each other -Changed the ring upgrade descriptions. I'm going to try for a more lore-based, somewhat poetic approach for these over a mechanical explanation. (Level 3 is obviously a temporary description) -Pushed the build up to Itch as v0.3.0
For those of you who have access to the pre-alpha and are using the Itch client, updating should be very easy! However, since something got renamed somewhere along the line, you will most likely have to remove the previous version of the game if you don't want it to ask you to select your version when launching the game. I don't think this will happen again... probably. :) I'm still working on the level 3 mechanic, also.
Daily Update - June 5, 2019 -Decided on new lvl3 of the ring -Fixed blocks so they now fall into pits. Long live the king. -Updated Itch app to v0.3.1
Daily Update - June 7, 2019 -Added level 3 of the ring. -Fixed a bug where pushable blocks couldn't be pushed. You had one job, pushable blocks. -Fixed a bug where the player wouldn't fall into a pit after swapping with something that's over the pit. -Fixed a bug where the synced level 2 ring block would not collide with objects when starting from "rest".
Daily Update - June 8, 2019 -Fixed bug where the dialogue box would crash sometimes. I fixed this bug before. I don't know why it came back. The code I used to fix it was gone. Will keep an eye on this code to see if it disappears again. -Updated HUD to display ring and ring level instead of scroll and swap spell level. -Fixed the controls. Space was mapped to both item "A" and item "B", and apparently it doesn't work that way when the item isn't mapped to both slots :P -Fixed a bug where the game would be very, very tiny if it was not in focus when starting in fullscreen mode. I commented out a line of code when updating the application surface resizing and forgot to uncomment it. -Updated v0.3.9 to Itch -Started work on the next draft of the dungeon sketch now that the ring mechanic has been finalized wooooo
Daily Update - June 12, 2019 -Competed new draft of the dungeon, pretty happy with this one. I'll just need to work in the puzzles and make sure the dungeon graph (a la GMTK Boss Keys) works out so players can't get stuck. -Fixed an issue where you could push blocks past the edge of the screen (and a related one where when you tried to do that, you would keep moving through the block while the block stayed still). -Fixed an issue where you could create blocks on top of each other.
Daily Update - June 14, 2019 -Started working on Tiled draft of dungeon -Began experimenting with larger default room sizes. One aspect I liked from Blossom Tales. Still keeping rooms, of course, since that's what counterintuitively makes an overworld feel big, but bumping up their width/height by about 50% each makes them feel that much larger and explorationy. -Updated test room to new room size. -Uploaded v0.3.12 to Itch, which includes the new room size, as well as the fixed bugs from the June 12 daily update
Daily Update - June 16, 2019 -Continued working on Tiled draft of dungeon. Slow work at this stage, but I believe the overall layout is complete. -Started laying out my sticky note version of the dungeon and puzzles. Lots has changed since last time I built puzzles for this dungeon, so reworking it has been fun.
Trying to decide whether the blocks should stay put when you move out the room, or disappear like the Cane of Somaria. Persistent blocks would make for some interesting puzzles.
Also trying to decide how the overworld will map down to the dungeon, since some of the dungeon rooms are a bit small and constrained. I'd like them to line up. Might still make them the same size as the overworld rooms, just with long connecting bits.
Daily Update - June 18, 2019 -Puzzle design is done! -Tiled map draft is coming along much faster now that I know what to fill the rooms with. Already making tweaks to the puzzles (and I'll certainly make more tweaks when building in GameMaker, just how it goes)
Daily Update - June 19, 2019 -Tiled map draft is almost done! Getting verrrry close now.
Daily Update - June 21, 2019 -Tiled map draft is COMPLETE!!!
Daily Update - June 23, 2019 -The actual dungeon in GameMaker is underway and making quick progress. Already improving on the Tiled map, I think! Could be done with the graybox and have it playable for patrons by the end of the week--stay tuned. Lemony Snicket voice "Graybox" here means "with crappy programmer art and white/black tiles"
Daily Update - June 24, 2019 -Made major headway on the dungeon in GameMaker. Very close to wrapping up the graybox tiles, and I've made a bunch of refinements to the existing layout and puzzles!
Daily Update - June 26, 2019 -Layout and graybox tiles are done -Colliders are done -Cliffs are done -Stairs are done -Pits are done -Item upgrades are placed -Some keys are placed -Buttons are placed (not hooked up yet)
Quasidaily Update - June 27, 2019 -Worked on hooking up buttons and bridges and simplified the lvl1 ring room (for me, should be about the same for the player)
Quasidaily Update - June 28, 2019 -Finished doors and hooked up buttons -Fixed various puzzles and rooms that weren't working correctly
Quasidaily Update - June 39, 2019 -Finished the ladder! -Finished bridge collision -Completed... the trap room -Hooked up the doors/buttons I missed (pretty easy to find since I use a red color blend on the offending buttons ingame) I... uh... am just gonna leave that as the 39th Very very close to alpha now, unless those two bugs end up just crushing me
Quasidaily Update - July 1, 2019 -Added day/night blocks -Added a missing teleporter (int/ext door) -Fixed one of the two softlocking bugs (in about 5 minutes)!
Remaining before patron alpha release: -Secret thing -Second bug -Verification that the dungeon is playable from start to finish
Quasidaily Update - July 2, 2019 -The second bug is technically fixed, but it's pretty janky and unpolished. I'll keep working on this tomorrow. -Cleaned up and optimized the block pushing check logic, which had all kinds of duplicate collision checks and wack timers being set all over the place
Quasidaily Update - July 3, 2019 -Finally fixed the second bug. This was a block syncing/pushing issue that would've prevented everyone from completing the dungeon -Began testing the dungeon's playability from beginning to end. Ran into a few more things I fixed:    -Added a level 3 ring upgrade description since it actually does something now    -Some bridges were missing pits under them, so you could walk across even if the bridge wasn't activated.    -Discovered the level 1 and 2 ring blocks don't fall in pits anymore. Oops. Gotta fix this still. Quasidaily Update - July 3, 2019 PART 2 -The dungeon is playable from start to end (except you can't get in the final room yet, but that's a quick fix) -Hooked up MORE buttons/doors that I had missed -Replaced/moved the keys around--I think this will be much more satisfying now -Added the method to get to t h e    s e c r e t Pretty pleased with it this time around--I think it's even more cryptic and fun to discover ehehehe "ehehehe" is to be read with a witch's voice
Quasidaily Update - July 4, 2019 -Tweaked t h e s e c r e t entrance ほほほ -Worked on t h e s e c r e t puzzles.... they're pretty devious お~~ほほほ
Quasidaily Update - July 5, 2019 -Fixed broken challenge puzzle. -Fixed bug with lv1 and lv2 ring mechanics--they weren't falling down pits anymore. That just makes this game way too easy. -Fixed a bug with lv3 ring blocks that was also breaking the challenge puzzle -Added some tiles to cover up my greybox "answers" -This wraps up all the changes for alpha. We'll go live with the alpha for patrons early tomorrow!
Quasidaily Update - July 6, 2019 -Released the patron alpha! Woohoo! Rali has been enjoying it at least/ -Released v0.4.2 update:    -Fixed two unmarked pits. Kinda sucks to fall into the solid ground.    -Game Over now resets only the player, not the entire game.
Quasidaily Update - July 7, 2019 -Released v0.4.4 update:    -Added collision around water bridges so you can't walk on or get trapped on the water...    -Removed a call to GMLive that may be causing a crash on the PlayerEquipmentRingState script.
Quasidaily Update - July 7, 2019 PART DOS Released v0.4.10 update: -Removed "You got a key!" text because... well, it should be obvious. -Do not freeze player on headstone moving. -Fix stutter when a level 0 equipped item is "used." -Made it so you can't push jars and blocks up stairs. They are TOO HEAVY. -Added an escape route to the challenge room so you don't have to throw yourself in a pit to get back to the start if you get stuck. It doubles as a "skip" for one of the puzzles once it has been opened. -Fixed challenge room exit so you don't get trapped. :)
Quasidaily Update - July 9, 2019 -Fixed colors on the east/west player "use ring" sprite so that the night palette shader doesn't miss it (meaning it would render her skin in the day palette) -Updated teleporters to use channel strings so I don't have to manually set the target coordinates for ALL THE TELEPORTERS AAAAAAAH. -Oh, and yeah, most importantly: released v0.5.0 update! Completed dungeon remodel!! It uses the build-a-final-key method like in Episode I. This allowed me to make the dungeon a bit less linear. It also meant I knocked down a wall or two, added another puzzle or two, and all around made something I'm much more satisfied with.
Quasidaily Update - July 10, 2019 Released v0.5.5 update! -Fixed a crash when attempting to push arrows (read: moving toward an arrow while it's trying to kill you). -Toned down the arrow knockback effect -Fixed awkward/slow interaction with arrows knocking you into pits -Shortened room respawn freeze time -Fixed a bug where the player could walk directly into the arrow and avoid taking damage. Pretty sure that's not how arrows work (this was related to the pushing bug above!).
Quasidaily Update - July 11, 2019 -Starting to place actual tiles over the greybox tiles and gosh it's nice to have real art.
Quasidaily Update - July 12, 2019 -Majority of the final tiles have been placed and it looks great. I still need to make a few interior wall sets and a handful of floor tiles. It really brings the dungeon to life
Quasidaily Update - July 14, 2019 -Released v0.6.0!!! I'm very excited about this one because it's the first of the graphics updates. The majority of the basic final tiles have been placed. There are more graphics updates to come (which you'll note if you play this version), but is the biggest of 'em. Looks great in day and night!
Quasidaily Update - July 15, 2019 -Added new one-way-jump wall tiles -Completed secret room tiles and decorations -Added lighter tall grass
Quasidaily Update -  July 16, 2019 -Today was a writing day, mainly. I'd like to have the little snippets of dialogue and bookshelves and so on done in a day or two. It's exciting stuff, showing off the tips of all these icebergs. -Last night I pushed v0.6.4, an update that had lots of good graphics updates. Except I forgot to replace the player back at the start of the level after testing, so neipo had some fun times starting at the END of the level. Fixed and uploaded in v0.6.5!
More! -Uploaded v0.6.6 in which I fixed an arrow issue that I already fixed previously. Except, I had only fixed it for ProtoDungeon I. Which is why @neipo13 ran into it to my great confusion.
More!!! Uploaded v0.6.8:    -Fixed one of the lvl3 ring puzzles so it didn't have a ridiculously easy solution (thanks for finding that, neipo).    -Fixed description of round key.
Quasidaily Update - July 17, 2019 I intended to do some writing today, but I got more excited about something else.... sooooo, cue the upload of v0.6.13 - The Optimization Patch! - in which the average framerate on my dev laptop is now 260fps up from 120fps.  -Moved the half-speed/GIF mode to only be available in debug mode (this was "G" on the keyboard, so people could just press it and not be sure why the game was running so badly).  -Scott's [regular & mod on the server] lappy had major framerate issues running the game, so I did some optimization and found out the pits were accounting for 50% of the time of every single frame. The best part: they only needed to run the offending code ONCE. So I moved that code from the step event to a one-time event and voila, framerate is way more stable.  -Turned off GMLive entirely and added an easy toggle for me. This is very useful during development, but it likes to make lots of calls when turned on.  -Updated the "listener" step event, which was setting a blend mode every single step. In debugger mode, this is so that stuff like buttons and doors turn red if they're not hooked up. Otherwise it "unsets" the blend mode by setting it to -1 every single step (regardless of debug mode). Apparently this has some unexpected overhead, even if the blend mode is ALREADY -1. A quick and easy fix.  -Swapped out the existing (non-moving) tombstone objects for different objects. Almost all of the tombstones were instances of the same object as the ones that move, but that came with a lot of additional overhead (my "listener" object still accounts for a lot of time because it's doing some checking with ds_lists every frame for every listener object; the moving tombstones have listeners, the normal tombstones do not). They're behaving themselves now.
Quasidaily Update - July 18, 2019 Uploaded v0.6.14!  -Fixed up collision in the secret room  -Finished secret room lore dialogue
There's still more writing to do for the headstones, bookshelves, and a certain NPC who isn't in the game yet, but yeah! Getting there!
Quasidaily Update - July 20, 2019 Over the last day or two, I've slowed down a lot--think I'm getting close to burning out, plus not certain I'm satisfied with the story implementation thus far in Episode II (am I too obscure? Revealing too much? Will people care? etc). That said, I've gotten some stuff done, and uploaded v0.6.19  -Fixed some borked collision near the hut (thanks for finding that, Rali)  -Fixed tombstones so they could display text  -Added text to various tombstones >:) (and bookshelves)  -Fixed the interaction check so that you don't interact with objects to the north of you when facing to the east or west.
Today I switched gears and created a batch file that could compile an executable without even opening GameMaker!! This is actually pretty exciting. I could almost, at this point, switch completely to GMEdit, which is significantly faster and more intuitive tham GM workspaces. Oh, and the batch file also uploads the compiled exe to Itch
Quasidaily Update - July 20, 2019 I decided to switch gears again and work on the save game feature. Not done yet, but it IS saving the player/inventory objects, and I'm setting it up to be pretty easily able to take in any set of objects, auto-read all their variables, and set 'em.
Quasidaily Update -  July 22, 2019 Been working on the ol' save system still. It's going well. I had to fight a bit with my camera system (like always lol), and now I'm making sure the ring blocks properly reset--currently they crash the game which isn't quite right...
The system as planned for PDII will essentially be an autosave that triggers on entrance of each room. When loading the game, all solved puzzles should remain solved, and ring blocks should remain in place, and you'll appear at the entrance of whatever room you exited the game from. At some point in a later episode I'll include slots and specific save points not unlike bonfires from Dark Souls
Quasidaily Update - July 23, 2019 Saving and Loading Continued Cleaned up the loading--it would snap you back to the load point and the camera had trouble keeping up. Now it's a nice, clean fade transition with no camera moving around.
What's left: -Properly saving blocks and other puzzle elements. Currently it, uh, duplicates them? So that's nice. -For some reason, the ring itself disappears when you reload the game -Need to set up the fadeout transition so it finishes before puzzle elements get reset and the time of day changes -Set up an autosave on room enter -You can actually get stuck in the first ring room by crossing a bridge and having that bridge disappear behind you, then quitting and loading your save. I'm trying to think of a good way to solve it now and in the future without making it easy to miss setting up something manually.
Quasidaily Update - July 25, 2019 Moar Savingz Ring blocks are finally managing their own order, and it's wayyyyy more stable and uses a ton less code than before. Previously, during the player's "use ring" state, it would call the inventory manager to update the order of the blocks, which it stored in two variables. It worked, but occasionally the order would get really weird and so on, plus it was going to be a nightmare for reloading. The problem is that the inventory manager was holding the ring block IDs in those two variables, and IDs are not guaranteed to be the same on re-run.
Solution: ring blocks get an integer variable that stores their order, called order. When a ring block is created, it tells the other block to update its order. If that order is already 2, destroy it. Simple, and easy to save since it's an int.
In a pre-quasidaily update today Daniel learns why his ring blocks aren't loading They are And then they're instantly destroying themselves Because of the code he wrote To tell them to destroy themselves Thank you
Quasidaily Update - July 26, 2019 Uploaded v0.6.22, possibly the final 0.6 version since saving is coming sooooooooooon. BUT. Here's what you guys get:    -Fixed some more collisions near the hut (seriously, did I move that entire room over one tile somehow)    -Allow jumping off ANY ledge (WOOO)    -Fixed occasional crash when creating ring blocks
The save/load system is working also, but not available outside of debug mode yet! As far as I can tell everything is saving and loading properly as expected. There are a couple places you can save scum past, and I have a few ideas for handling those, but that probably won't be something I deal with for a bit. However, the player is not currently able to save or load (unless they're in debug mode, as mentioned), which leads me to the next major update I will be working on: M E N U S  and  O P T I O N S
Quasidaily Update - July 27, 2019 I'm 25 minutes through a 70 minute series by FriendlyCosmonaut on a menu system. This is a lot lol.
In the process, I did a little bit of reworking/cleaning on my controls system. I now have some global variables that hold all the currently configured controls, instead of hardcoding the controls into the input manager. This was in preparation to allow control remapping!
Quasidaily Update - July 30, 2019 Been quiet for a few days--hard at work on the new menu system. This one is a doozy, you guys. I haven't done this much straight code on the TWC "engine" since Episode I.... maybe even longer.
Finished the FriendlyCosmonaut series, which was a great foundation. Now I'm building off it (and trying to get tons of parts of it to actually work still). I'd ideally like to have it look a lot like the old mockup from my blog post on difficulty settings (many of those difficulty settings will not be used in ProtoDungeon or TWC).
Here's what I got so far. Still a lot of the FriendlyCosmonaut design in this, which is good, but doesn't quite fit with this game.
brightness/contrast do nothing, window actually works pretty well--unless you change the smoothing size, in which case it starts acting up...
vsync.... I think works? I haven't even tried toggling screenshake I want to use the "bouncing arrows" style from the mockup instead of color, fix the on/off to use arrows instead, fix the sliders so they use pixel arrows instead of drawn circles.... so much left to dooooo I just have to remember it was loading a black screen this morning
Quasidaily Update - August 7, 2019 Been alternating between taking breaks and working furiously on menu stuff, as you can see with screenshots.
Spending a lot of time on remapping. There's a lot to polish here, stuff you might not think about on first glance (What happens if a key is already mapped to another? Do you handle the menu not closing while you're remapping the menu key? Do you handle the menu so it doesn't navigate when mapping the back key? Do you include primary and secondary control sets, and if so, how do you display that clearly? Etc.)
Not all these questions have difficult answers, but they add up. So that's basically all I've been working on for the past week or so :)
Today I got the gamepad up and running and the secondary control set as well. I forgot how good it feels to play the game with a controller vs a keyboard. My wife happily exclaimed "You're playing with a controller!" :D
The secondary control set was a back and forth decision. The deciding factor was mainly wanting to ease the initial "time to start" for different players--so you can move with WASD and the arrow keys, or with the dpad and the stick. I have a pretty good idea how the UI will work for this too, so now that the gamepad is working, I'm gonna start on the secondary controls.
Quasidaily Update - August 11, 2019 -Primary and secondary gamepad button remapping are working -Got some cool new gamepad icons, improved thanks to Corvos -Fixed the menu so you couldn't close it on the menu page when starting the game -Added a second, ingame menu with resume/settings/save & quit as options -The new menu will pause all "actors" (objects with states) -Fixed a bug where the secondary gamepad right input was not mapped
Quasidaily Update - August 13, 2019 -"Defaults" option now works for keyboard and gamepad -Fixed an issue where you couldn't remap some of the secondary keyboard inputs (broke it with the gamepad remapping). -Fixed an issue with the menu arrow being in the wrong place (broke it with the gamepad remapping). -Removed light blue coloring on selected menu items. Judging by other menus, arrow seems to be enough by itself. -When remapping, the current selected control will now blink instead of remaining static. -Made sliders more usable--it wasn't really possible to move them 1% at a time, which was unwieldy and annoying. Now they have a "ramping" speed and are much easier to control.
Quasidaily Update - August 13, 2019, Part II -Toned down the strength of the brightness slider just a bit. -Updated the shaders to affect the GUI as well as the game. This should include the menu as well as the HUD, the dialogue box, and, in TWC, the inventory screen. I kinda like this. We'll see if it bothers people. :D
Quasidaily Update - August 17, 2019 -Fixed an issue with menu sliders not being drawn when the shader is applying to GUI elements. Turns out the built-in line drawing doesn't pass texture information to the shader. At this point I'm not sure how to configure the shader correctly, so I just made the lines into sprites instead lol. -Added title to the top-level menu! Yay! -Fixed game loading so it would load the correct room (both GameMaker room and in-game "area"). -Autosave the game on room entrance. -Autosave the game on getting an item (this way you can't cheese certain rooms). At this point, playing the game, quitting, and coming. back to continue is working REALLY WELL. -No longer save "region" (rooms in the game) objects, since these get created and setup perfectly fine on room creation. -Added SOME SECRETS YAY! -Autosave the game on "teleporting"--going through doors, up/down stairs, etc. -Fixed the "circle out" transition, which was apparently not working or used anywhere. -Changed all "teleportation" to use circle-in/circle-out transitions--a little less visually jarring and much nicer looking than a fade-to-wipe-from-center.
Quasidaily Update - August 19, 2019 -Added tiny pause in the middle of the teleportation transition so that it's a bit less jarring -Simultaneously, allowed toggle to camera easing so that I don't have to add fragile pauses to loading and certain transitions and so on (to wait for the camera to finish moving to catch up with the player loaded position). This fixed a small camera jerk when loading the game. This will eventually be an option on the menu for those that don't like the easing (and also because turning off subpixels makes camera easing REALLY BAD). -Fixed issue with audio groups not loading (by loading them, wow). This is probably temporary since next big task is to add the Wandersong audio engine, but the fix let me actually see my debug messages instead of spamming "Audio Group 2 is not loaded" whenever a sound is played lol. -Fixed bug with loading the game on a teleporter (doors, stairs, etc.) where it would immediately take you to the target location. This had multiple parts, but namely 1) just making sure to set the global "isLoading" flag and to not teleport during that, and 2) setting the "isLoading" flag earlier, since the teleporters were faster than my load manager lol. -Fixed "New Game" issue where it would fade to black, start the game, and then fade to black again. Turns out if you call "fade out" twice, it will fade out twice.

Hey all!!! Sorry I’ve been dead, but writings block kills lol. Anyways I got this idea off of some lame discord convos and uhhh I hope it’s good. Also it’s late and lmao I have no motivation to edit my own writing uhhh here u go. Some mild swearing. Will be Kam if I keep going w it. Lov yall.
*~*~*
Pt.
one
Keefe
I’m lying in bed, of course, when the shrieking of my alarm goes off about four feet away from me. I blink my eyes open until they don’t feel sticky and gross, then grab my alarm clock. It’s a simple thing, a brick with about 5 buttons total on it, probably.
I pushed the button on the bottom left corner, and the loud wail finally ends. I groan and rub my head, wishing the colors and blobs that cloud the center of my milky vision would just come into focus.
However after years of hoping for that, every morning, I know nothing is going to happen. With a small sigh, I go into my ultra-specifically organized dresser.
Today is the first day of my senior year. Even if I wont be able to see myself, I want to know that others will appreciate the way that I look- or, at least, am dressed. There’s not a lot I can do if there’s anything wrong with my face or hair. I wish I could, though- even though I’ve been blind since birth, I still always want to look presentable. In order to do that, my friends help me once every other week to organize my outfits for the upcoming 14 days. It started in sophmore year, when Sophie got the wonderful idea, and it's been a tradition since. And thanks to my ‘photographic (ha) memory’, I always know what clothes I’m wearing. Always.
I’m about halfway dressed when hear a beep from the direction of my bed.
“New message from Fitz.” The automated, robotic voice of Siri tells me.
“Hey siri- read message from Fitz.” I respond, then finish putting on the rest of my clothes.
“Ready for your first day as a senior?” she reads back to me. I automatically change the sound to Fitz’s deeper, more human voice in my head. It’s pointless, but necessary.
“Hey siri- text Fitz ‘hell yeah brother.’” After a quick confirmation of what I’m sending, I go into the bathroom next to my bedroom. I carefully feel my way around for my toothbrush and brush my teeth, then proceed to run my hand through my hair. For a short moment, I wish I could see myself as more than a blob of milky, too bright color, but it fades quickly. I’d rather not think about it. So I finish up in the bathroom, then return to my room for my bag. With a quick ‘hey siri’, I manage to find my phone as well.
After a few more voice commands, I receive the news that Fitz will be here to pick me up at 7:30, which gives me about 20 minutes. I hop over to the kitchen and make myself a quick, hearty bowl of cereal. Being me, I choose the healthiest kind- Lucky Charms. When finished, I smile to myself and set the bowl near the sink- I know my dads at work by now, so I don’t have to worry about him. Sometimes there’s good things about waking up early. As I slip my bag on and go to the door to wait, I remember how lucky I am to have such a good memory, and such a constantly cleanly household. Otherwise, I’d be as clumsy in my house as Sophie is. I grab my cane and walk outside, chiding myself for thinking so much about the little things.
Fitz is there, honking his horn, about 5 ish minutes after I get outside. Sophie yells at him for being annoying, and I chuckle a bit. A window rolls down, and Biana’s voice comes through hollering to go to the back passengers side. I use my cane to help me a little bit, then grab onto the ledge made by the open window. I proceed to find the door handle, then carefully step into the car.
“If any freshman gives you crap today, you have full right to hit them with your cane.” Dex, who must be on on the other side of Biana, says.
“Thank you. I’ll definitely do that,” I respond with a laugh, and I can practically feel the worry in the air as Sophie warns me not to.
“We really don’t want you to get suspended on the first day. So just wait until tomorrow, and give them an extra hard whap on kneecap.” Biana adds cheerily.
“This is why you’re my favorite.” I awkwardly try to wrap my arm
around her head, but fail miserably. My peripherals are even worse than the center of my vision- there’s almost no light visible towards the edges. So I end up hitting her on the head, and play it off by messing her hair up. This, of course, causes her to whack my arm and call me a jerk.
“Alright, dumbasses, knock it off,” Fitz, my best friend of the
past 6 years, yells. “By the way, Keefe, we’re pulling in now.” A knot forms in my stomach. Man. First day of senior year at Foxfire. I can’t believe its so close to being over. The beginning of the end.
We pull into the parking lot and step out of Fitz’s Volvo. I turn towards the building, and take a deep inhale of the crisp morning air. My friends and family always like to comment on how pretty the building looks. Foxfire is a really prestigious private high school, and I know that they put a lot of money into the architecture
and the grounds. It's a pity that all I see is a building shaped blob of its beige color, and the faint blobs of green and other colors that I know are trees.
I try not to let myself think about it.
We walk into the building, and Fitz automatically splits off. He's supposed to help some teacher set up the presentation that the Freshman go to. I love him, but it's the first day of school and that man is already busy. This year is gonna be rough if we wanna keep up our hangout sessions- although, we both did take the same 6 AP classes. We’ll probably study together, when he’s not with his million other commitments.
After a few hugs and highfives, and a few debate friends greeting me, I go to my first class. I’m /not/ getting caught in that crowd, especially with the idiotic freshman pretending that they own the place. Off to AP music theory it is. C118 is easy enough- no stairs, and it's a pretty straight shot to the classroom. Again,
I thank my perfect memory to get me around. I may not know what the building looks like, but I basically have the blueprint downloaded in my head. Good times, man.
First period doesn’t result in much. We all get a copy of the syllabus, and a short introductory reading. I can feel a tinge of annoyance when the teacher acknowledges my inability to.. Uh, read it, but a girl named Linh volunteers to help me out with it. She seemed nice enough. She had a bit of a Canadian accent, and when I asked about it she confirmed that she was from… Minnesota. She was really sweet, and I’m genuinely hoping that’ll become a friendship.
The next couple periods go uneventfully. Fitz is in one of them, and Dex the other so I don’t have to worry about another situation like in first period. And the teachers always let me go about 2-3 minutes early, so I can avoid the crowds- that is, until lunch. I’m on my way down to the cafeteria when I run into… someone. They must have been very quiet- I didn’t realize they were that close to me and coming around the bend. So when they did, we kinda collided. I hear a soft curse when they thud to the ground, and from the shape and sound I know its a guy. I put the cane in my left hand and offer to help him up. I’m not sure what it is, but he doesn’t accept it.
“You good man? I didn’t see ya there.” I laugh a little, because
duh. He doesn’t. I can’t really make out any of him- his hair is /probably/ black- and this agitates me, because he doesn’t respond. And then he practically runs away.
I have no way to identify him- probably a dumb freshman that didn’t want his ass kicked by the blind senior. Trying to shake off the interaction, I roll my eyes and start on my way to lunch again.
//
“Honestly, today was AWFUL. The second half, at least.” I’m now at Fitz’s house, along with Dex. “I already told Dex about that one guy that ran into me, but Stats teacher was awful. She probably heard something from Michaels about last year- just because I rarely showed up doesn’t mean I don’t know what I’m doing! I got along in that class fine.”
“Keefe, I taught you like half of that course.” Fitz replies, laughing.
“Because you actually know how to do math! Michaels is an awful excuse for a pre calc teacher. Dex, be glad that you got Hex.” I retort. It’s not wrong- Mr. Michaels had been very incompetent. If not for Fitz, I would have gotten the worst grade I ever had in my high school career.
“You know I am.” Dex agrees. “Even Hex hates Michaels, but she won’t admit it. Outright, at least.”
“Ok, enough about horrible teachers. Tell me about the guy who ran into you.” Fitz pipes up, not wanting to be apart of a conversation dissing his soccer coach. I let him divert the conversation, even though I really wanna rag Michaels to the ground most of the time.
“Well, that's the thing. There’s nothing to tell- I ran into him and he fell. Then he ran away, without saying a word,” I say. “I wanna know just as much as you do.”
“That’s cute.” Dex comments, and I shake my head.
“You know what I mean.”
“Suuuuureee.” The tone of his voice makes me hit him, which starts a wrestle between the three of us that lasts for about half an hour. By the end of it, I’m sure I have multiple bruises from falling, kicking something wrong, and getting hit, but I don’t care much. We fall into a panting heap on Fitz bed, and we through half hearted punches at each other that hold no intention. Needless to say, I’m sweaty and gross, and when Fitz informs me that it's almost 8, I ask to go home. A man's gotta shower- and get his beauty sleep.
So Fitz drives me and Dex home, the three of us having pointless conversation about classes and plans we should make. I get dropped off first, and they wait as I carefully make my way to door of my house, not leaving until I get inside. I hear the thrum of his engine as Fitz drives off, then make my way to the bathroom.
After a quick shower, I brush my teeth and head off to bed.
I drift off, and my thoughts are filled with a mysterious blob with probably black hair and evil math equations.

The Morning After chapter two
Chapter two of this modern AU, I actually kind of have a plot? A loose guideline? A something for this so we’ll see how it goes lol, enjoy!
Chapter 1
Ed eyed the stairwell with all the bitterness and contempt his hungover being could muster. It was too early for the elevator to stop working, especially when he was this hungover, had a bag to carry, and his prosthetic leg was aching. Apparently he had stressed his amputated limb out with whatever the hell he had been doing last night.
He was tired and emotionally drained, he just wanted to sprawl on the couch and binge watch reality TV so his own life would seem a little less shitty.
So, with a grumble, he slung his bag over his shoulder, grabbed the handrail, and began the three flight ascent to Al’s apartment.
Technically it was his apartment too, but he hadn’t done much living in it for the past four years or so.
In a considerably fouler mood than he had been at the bottom of the stairs, (if that were possible) Ed finally reached their apartment, and after a minute of fumbling for his keys, he stepped inside.
As he tossed his bag on the couch and headed toward the hall, he heard a small sound, almost like a squeak.
Frowning, he marched to Al’s bedroom, calling out as he swung the door open. “Al I swear, if you’ve smuggled another kitten into our apartment I’m going to-”
He stopped short when his gaze fell on a very shocked, very flustered, Alphonse. Gaze sliding from his half dressed brother to the glaring girl currently lying sprawled out on his bed, legs tangled with Al’s. Ed’s bad mood instantly dissipated, and the biggest shit-eating grin crossed his face.
“Oh, hey Mei, how’s it going?”
Alphonse launched himself off the bed. “Edward! You’re not supposed to be back until tomorrow!”
The older brother shrugged. “I decided to cut the trip short and head home. Next time hang a sock on the door or something.”
“Get out!”
Ed put his hands on his hips as his younger brother pulled his shirt back onto his shoulders and marched toward him. “I hope you two are using protection.”
“Oh my god, Edward!” Al wailed, shoving him back into the hall.
Ed cackled, grabbing onto the doorframe to call back into the room. “Remember! Sex isn’t fun unless it’s safe!”
Al used the several inches of height he had against Edward to push him all the way to the front door. “I hate you so much, get out!”
Edward pouted as he was pushed out into the hallway. “Aw, come on, what am I supposed to do while you do Mei?”
Al threw Ed’s jacket in his face. “You’re awful, and frankly, I don’t care what you do, but you’re not allowed back here until tomorrow, when you were supposed to be home.”
The door slammed in his face, and Edward suddenly realized that he had nowhere else to go. Winry was still in Central city, and besides Al, he didn’t really know anyone in Resembool. Not well enough to crash at their house at least.
Remembering he would have to walk back down the three flights of stairs, his bad mood from earlier returned full force.
“Shit, this day just keeps getting better and better.”
Letting out a sigh, he began the trek down to the street. Considering it was around lunchtime, he could always go grab something to eat before deciding what to do for the rest of the day and where he’d spend the night.
He made his way down the streets to his favorite little pub downtown. It was a hole in the wall that served the best damn hamburgers in Amestris, it was also where he had his first drink. That night had ended in a bloody nose and bruised ribs, and he one of the biggest grins he’d had in a long time.
That was right before he deployed. Before…
He shivered, pulling his jacket’s collar up around his chin, blocking the cold breeze from his neck.
As much as this town was Home to him, it held almost too many painful memories.
He should visit his mom’s grave while he was still in town...it had been a while.
The warmth of the pub chased away the chill of the almost-winter air and remnants of the past that lingered in his mind.
He rubbed his hands together and headed over to the bar, knocking against the wood to get the bartender’s attention.
“Can I get a homebrew and your double burger with extra pickles?”
The burly man nodded. “Sure, find a seat.”
Ed turned around and scanned the room for an empty table.
“Heeeeeey, Edward!”
His shoulders stiffened at the call, eyes widening. “Ling?” Before he could form a defense, he was nearly knocked over by a hug that could’ve easily passed for a tackle. “The hell! What are you doing here?”
Ling laughed, straightening and patting Ed on the shoulder. “It’s good to see you too! It’s been what? A couple years now.”
“A few, yeah. Again, what are you doing in Resembool?”
Ling shrugged, flicking his bangs out of his eye. “My uncle didn’t feel comfortable letting Mei travel all the way from Xing on her own, even though she’s been making the journey since she was like ten.” He stretched, Ed scowling at how much taller it made him look. “So I’m here as her escort, or chaperone or whatever you wanna call it.”
Ed snorted, grabbing the mug the bartender slid over to him. “Well you’re doing a pretty shit job of chaperoning considering I just walked in on her and Al.”
Ling wrinkled his nose. “Gross, dude, that’s my baby cousin.”
“Yeah well he’s my little brother, not exactly the homecoming I was expecting. He kicked me out until tomorrow.”
Ling laughed. “You probably said or did something to deserve that.”
“Maybe, but now I’ve got nowhere to stay. Besides, it’s not like I’ve had the greatest past twenty-four hours, he could’ve cut me a little slack.”
Grabbing Edward’s burger, Ling motioned them both back to a little table in the corner. “I’ve gotta hear this, come on, spill. I want all the details.”
“Like I’d pour my heart out to you, ya nosy bastard.” Plopping down into one of the rickety chairs, he took a long drink from his beer before adding. “By the way, Al owes you that fifty bucks back.”
Ling’s usually relaxed eyes widened. “What? You mean you and Winry didn’t hook up after the concert?”
Edward shook his head, biting into his burger. “Nope. Just ended up falling asleep in the same bed after getting blackout drunk.”
Ling snagged a couple of his companion’s fries. Chewing thoughtfully before replying. “Well if you were that drunk how do you know you didn’t?”
Edward’s cheeks started to burn at the memory. “Look, we didn’t, okay? I’m not going into details, especially not with you, but we didn’t.” Letting out a heavy breath before taking another bite of his hamburger, he spoke around his mouthful. “Besides, from the way she talked, it’s never gonna happen anyway.”
Ling snorted. “You’d have to be blind and the dumbest person out there to think that.”
Ed narrowed his eyes at him. “Yeah? Didn’t you bet against it happening?”
He shook his head, stealing a few more fries. “Nah, I bet Alphonse that him and Mei would be married before you and Winry got over yourselves enough to screw.”
“First of all, stop stealing my fries, secondly, why is my relationship with Winry any of your business? Maybe Al and I should start betting against how long it’ll take for you to finally make a move on Lan fan.”
Ling spluttered. “Edward! She is my bodyguard, do you realize how unprofessional that would be?”
“Yeah well, since when have you ever been professional? Besides, I’m sure she wouldn’t be opposed to some freelance body guarding.”
Staring each other down for a few moments, Ling finally broke eye contact, lifting his hands up in defeat. “Point made, its none of my business.”
Edward nodded. “Damn straight.”
“But seriously, dude, the fact that you thought it had happened and were freaking out about it says something, right?”
Leaning back in his seat, Ed crossed his arms and sighed. “Look, I kind of don’t want to talk about this right now, I haven’t even processed it yet. So can we talk about literally anything else while I finish my food and beer?”
Ling tapped his hands against the table top several times. “Right then, you eat up, I’m gonna go order something and you’ll spend the night at my place.”
Ed nearly choked on his beer, coughing several times to clear his airway before spluttering. “Since when do you have a place in Resembool?”
Ling smirked. “Dude, chill, it’s just a rental for a week or two, I’m not moving in to the neighborhood or anything.”
For the next hour or so, Edward and Ling ate, drank, and caught each other up on each other’s lives.
They’d never been best friends, but Ling was the Ambassador of Xing’s son, and Ed had saved his life once, since then a weird sort of bond had formed between them.
And after Al and Mei met and started dating, the two young men ended up spending more time together.
It had been a few years since Edward had seen his friend, or really anyone he knew outside the military, in person. Sure there had been texts and video chats and such, but it wasn’t the same.
That’s why getting a few days to hang out with Winry in Central was such a big deal, they’d missed just being together in person, even if it was just hanging out and watching television.
“So, this is the place!” Ling declared, breaking Ed from his reminiscing.
He looked up to see a warm little building nestled behind a simple wrought iron fence.
Inside the furnishings were comfortable and casual, the main room an open concept of living, dining and kitchen.
“Bathroom’s down the hall, guest bedroom is that door, my room is the one across the way. Mei usually sleeps in the loft but I guess she’ll be out tonight.”
Both young men wrinkled their noses, quickly moving on to a different subject.
“You can borrow some of my clothes if you want, I hardly ever wear what’s in the dresser considering I always pack my own clothes from home.”
Ed nodded. “Thanks, I think I’ll shower before catching some sleep, the train ride to and from Central always makes me feel grimy.”
Ling stretched languidly, yawning loudly. “Go for it, I’m going to turn in early, still not used to the time difference here.” He headed toward the bedroom, waving nonchalantly. “Night.”
“Hey Ling?”
He paused, looking over his shoulder. “Hmm?”
Ed scratched the back of his neck. “Uh...thanks. I appreciate you letting me crash here.”
Ling grinned. “Anytime! You’re buying me breakfast in the morning though.”
Edward laughed. “Fair enough, see you then.”
It didn’t take long for Ed to slip into the bathroom and strip out of his grimy clothes, turning the water on and watching the steam rise into the room as he slung a towel on the hook beside the shower and climbed inside.
He sighed as the hot water washed over him, rinsing away the dust and sweat of the day, the warmth and pressure massaging his stiff muscles.
His mind wandered as he lathered up and scrubbed at his scalp, absentmindedly noting that his hair was starting to grow out of its undercut.
The Lieutenant had mentioned the Colonel’s offer again. He probably didn’t have long before an answer would have to be given, one way or the other. He had to make a decision, a hard one.
Dammit, how was he supposed to decide what he wanted for the future when he didn’t even know what he wanted now?
That’s a lie. You know what you want.
He blew water off the end of his nose in a huff, trying to ignore the little voice in his head.
She’d been in bed with you. Naked.
Not naked, she had her undergarments on, they both had.
But what if she was naked? What if you kissed her peachy-pink lips, touched her smooth ivory skin? What then?
“Fuck.” Ed cursed, struggling to reign in his hormones.
It’s not like he’d never thought of Winry as beautiful or sexy, hell he’d admit he thought she was since he was fifteen years old. But he’d refused to allow his mind to go farther down that path. She was his best friend, and his feelings were causing enough awkwardness on his end without throwing in fantasizing about her.
But you want to. You want to think about how she feels, how she tastes, what kinds of noises she would make.
“Fuck!” He cursed again, grabbing the shower gauge and twisting it savagely toward the “C”
Freezing water poured down on him, causing him to gasp and then hiss as icy needles rained against his skin.
Bracing his hands against the wall, he ducked his head under the frigid stream and let the cold water extinguish the fire in his blood.
He was so fucked.

a favor & a kiss
Tumblr media
member: lai guanlin  genre: very fluffy summary: you’ve always had a crush on guanlin but you never thought he would like you back, what happens when he asks you to wear his varsity jacket to be his lucky charm at his final basketball game?
you and guanlin were friends because you sat in maths class together
which mostly consisted of you and him complaining about the class and not doing the assigned work
“guanlin it’s been exactly 23 minutes and 16 seconds that we’ve been in this class but why does it feel like two weeks” you’d groan
he would smirk at you, and reply “we have 67 minutes and 44 seconds to go” you’d huff and puff but then you’d finally do you work
by work you mean copying off the answers from guanlin
the thing is for you it was weird to be his friend
well you didn’t want to be only his friend but you pushed your feelings in the deepest place in you mind
why?
because he was probably the most popular guy of your grade and you were just one of those people who blended into the background
he was the star player of the basketball team, nice, funny, smart and not to mention his ridiculously good looks
because of this he had A HUGE FAN CLUB like no joke even like girls three years older than him wanted to date him
Guanlin also had very popular friends across the grades even some in university
he was exciting and fun and you were plain and boring
you had absolutely no chance with him
you happily settled with just being his friend but you couldn’t sometimes help but wish that maybe one day something would happen
one maths class guanlin asked you to go to the final of his basketball game
you agreed cause you had nothing planned for that night other than binge watching netflix
the day of the game guanlin came to you when you were eating lunch  which was a very unusual occurence
you could feel the glares and whispers of other girls
feeling awkward and uncomfortable you asked him “whats up?”
unexpectedly he looked even more nervous than you and said
“uhhhh i have a favour to ask? i always have someone who’s important to me wear my varsity jacket at my final games. Is it okay if you could wear it tomorrow?”
he said looking at the ground and rubbing his neck which you knew was nervous habit of his from the hours of staring at him
your heart was beating SO FAST you think that everyone could hear it
you tried to muster a normal (not too excited so i seem chill) smile without squealing
guess what, you failed, you literally squeaked in response
but after freaking out you finally beamed a smile and replied “i’d love to”
he gave you his most heart melting gummy smile which you literally thought could melt you
he started to ramble after you said yes “like i didn’t mean to be weird it’s just my sister always wore my varsity jacket at my final games but she’s still in taipei and i don’t have any other important girls in my life other than you”
your heart then was torn in two parts
complete devastation because HE SAW YOU LIKE A SISTER not just a friend A SISTER
but also just pure bliss because you’re the only important girl in his life other than his family
you just ended up smiling and saying “it’s not weird at all, i’d love to be your good luck charm” you said with a joking wink
then of course guanlin proceeds TO BLUSH
you freaked out because
1. you are NEVER that flirty (but it’s probably because of the panic that he looks at you like a sister which of course causes you to awkwardly flirt)
2. HE BLUSHED this cool gorgeous guy BLUSHED because of you
he mumbled a few incoherent words something along the lines of “see you at the game” and handed you his varsity jacket
before you know it your one and only close best friend looked at you with her jaw open and simply said like the dirty minded hoe she is
“he totally wants to get in your pants, GO FOR IT HONEY!”
you whacked her in the arm and said disappointedly “he only likes me as a friend even a sister”
“keep on telling yourself that” she smirked
because of your friend teasing you you didn’t notice guanlin getting teased by ALL of his friends
“yah! guanlin giving her your jacket is not good enough bloody confess to her already!” jihoon said
“aw you and y/n would be sooo cute” daehwi cooed who else would it be
“not as cute as us though” jinyoung said while wrapping his arm around daehwi jokingly totally not joking
“hmm guanlin-ah after we win because we’re totally gonna win, KISS HER” seongwoo cockily remarked
“do that confess, ask her out and boom you’re a couple” added daniel
“you’ll be fine” woojin said reassuringly while patting his shoulder
he just basically groaned the whole time his hyungs were talking and just wanted it to be at the game already
*the game*
you were wearing a plain white tshirt dress which was a bit short for your comfort with Guanlin’s varsity jacket and your hair in a loose kinda messy bun with minimal makeup
you gotta admit you looked pre cute
especially because at school you wear baggy sweatpants and worn out t shirts, you hair is a mess and you’re sure sometimes you have some dried drool on your cheek
you were on the bleacher closest to the court so you could see guanlin play and cheer for him
unbeknownest to you guanlin had checked if you were there and once seeing you his heart was beating so rapidly
more than if he sprinted for like 30 minutes
because you looked so beautiful
he literally screamed in the locker room to jihoon
“Y/N LOOKS SO BEAUTIFUL I CANNOT LIKE SHE ALWAYS LOOKS PRETTY IN SWEATS BUT LIKE WOW SHES BREATHTAKING ESPECIALLY IN MY JACKET.”
“SHE’S WEARING MY JACKET HYUNG!!!”
jihoon was like woah dude calm down and like damn you’re really in love with this chick aren’t ya you little giant baby
and guanlin just blushes and nods
*okay time skip to the actual game*
you couldn’t help but appreciate how hot guanlin looked in his basketball tank top which showed off his lean but muscular arms
and his uniform just made him look taller than usual
but first half the team played really well thrashing the other team
guanlin was shooting most of the goals and you were like
that’s my man but like lol no he’ll never be intersted in me
in the break between the halves he gave you a wave and a warm smile
you smiled back, showing off your jacket and giving him a hwaiting gesture
he gave you a thumbs up back
in the second second half the other team catched up because one of the best players (seongwoo) injured his ankle and couldn’t play
he totally swore so loudly when he got injured for like 10 minutes straight
with only 2 minutes to go it was a tie and the ball was on the opposite side of the court of the boys goal
you were so anxious you were screaming encouragements hoping that the guys would win
suddenly guanlin blocks the ball from going into the goal and then grabs and dribbles it super fast to the middle of the court
with only a few seconds left he shoots a three pointer
EVERYONE GOES CRAZY!!!!
you tried to fight your way to Guanlin but he was being so crowded you waited for everyone to calm down
before you know it Guanlin was right in front of you
and whispers in your ear
“i deserve a reward for shooting the winning goal don’t ya think? my sister would always give me a peck on the cheek if we won?”
he said cheekily and suggestively
you were blushing so hard not just because of his request but also because his face was only centimetres away from yours
your insides were freaking like “YOU WERE GIVING YOUR CRUSH OF MORE THAN A YEAR TO KISS HIS CHEEK BECAUSE HE ASKED”
and you just blushed and tried to be hard to get but totally failed
“just because you scored the winning goal” you replied
you stood on you tip toes to kiss his cheek cause you were short af
as you were leaning in to kiss his cheek you closed your eyes
you didn’t realise he twisted his head to face yours for your lips to reach his
he didn’t even know what he was doing because he never kissed anyone
cause like even him the swaggiest of rappers can have zero experience
his mind was freaking out and he knew it was because of the adreanaline of the game which made him so daring
and before you both knew it
you felt a pair of lips warm and soft on yours
YOU FREAKED OUT INTERNALLY but honey you weren’t gonna stop
you felt one of guanlin’s hands cupping your cheek and one on your lower back
you could hear the wolf whistles and cheers and shouts of “YEAH FINALLY!!!” from literally all the wanna one boys and basketball team
you slowly parted away from your first but probably the best kiss you’ll ever experience
and guanlin just looks down on you he’s a giant and you see his gummiest smile and his eyes are just shining of happiness
you mirrored basically the same expression but also like confusion
cause thoughts being like what the fuck just happened does this mean he likes me WHAT??!!!
before you could express any of these thoughts
Guanlin tells you super shyly and sweetly
“um well first of all i like you a lot LIKE A LOT i have since our first conversation, i kinda really fell for your smile and personality and looks and just everything i guess” he continues by saying
i thought you’d never like me cause you’re basically perfect but like i think you do?? cause like yeah”
he awkwardly ended it with an adorable smile and you burst out laughing
“you thought i’d never like you, boi you so swaggy” you said with wiggly eyebrows trying to diffuse the kinda awkward but not really but also super endearing situation
guanlin laughed and whispered under his breath which you only just heard
“this is why i love you”
“wait shit i said that out loud, ugh shit well whatever at least it’s true”
he said looking sooooo embarassed
you laughed softly and said “i love you too guanlin-ah”
he smiled broadly and without hesitation he asked
“since you love me so much, will you be my girlfriend?” he said with a teasing tone
“hmmm i’m not sure cause jihoon’s pretty cute, don’t ya think?” you said jokingly
“HEY! i’m so much better than jihoon hyung” guanlin pouted
“guanlin trust me you’re not” jihoon commented butting into your moment
guanlin just sulked before you giggled and cupped his cheeks
“of course guanlin, I’d love to be your girlfriend.” you said kissing his cheek for real this time
he smiles and says in awe “y/n is actually my girlfriend i don’t believe it”
you just smile and the crowd errupts into cheers
seongwoo taps guanlin on the shoulder and tells him
“guanlin as much as i enjoy young love and you actually having some guts to ask a girl out, coach wants us in the lockeroom” he said smirking and winking at you
you laugh cause seongwoo is always funny
“yeah i’m coming hyung” guanlin replied
“but before i leave” he says to you
he kisses you on the forehead and whispers to you sweetly
“wait for me princess, i’ll be back soon”
and wow you just became an absolute puddle of goo
you just nod and say “of course i’ll be waiting aren’t i your lucky charm?” you say with a wink
he laughs and sends you a gummy smile as he runs towards the locker room
you hug his jacket around yourself and just process everything that happened
you’re wearing the jacket of your crush-wait no boyfriend-and you’re so glad guanlin asked you to wear it
and you end up wearing it to every single game after that one
lol i’m sorry i went so overboard i did not expect this to be this long especially a bullet point scenario. but i hope you enjoyed it anyways! also please send requests in! or just send me a message for a chat because i’d love to talk to anyone about kpop tbh lmao. But thank you for reading!

So now I have to do some major damage control to Addilyn and Lana after Jacob's attempt of throwing me under the bus. I am pretty confident I can clear my name here though
I am like 99% sure Szymon will not nominate me this week. We have really bonded over the last couple of days with talks outside of the game so I feel like I have a better connection with him than some other players in the game. I am hesitant because he did tell Haley that he wants to watch out for me but I feel like whoever he mentions I will have to be on board with so I don’t give him any reason to doubt that I am not 100% loyal to him
Tumblr media
THERE HAS BEEN A TURNING POINT I REPEAT THERE HAS BEEN A TURNING POINT!!!  SHAKES ASS FOR THE DIARY ROOM
Tumblr media
Honestly I don’t know what I would do if Haley was evicted from this game! We have talked every single day since day 2 from like 11pm-2am about EVERYTHING.
My goal for tomorrow is to ensure that The Marching Band isn’t nominated this week for eviction! I know that I am safe, but I don’t wanna push too hard cuz it will make Szymon suspicious
Tumblr media
Oh. My. God. Jacob really went out with a bang eh? I feel like so many people are shook from his long ass novel. A lot of people weren’t mentioned (such a shame) and the 2 people who probably should have been were skipped over. He told me he liked me and hopes I go far??? Lol, not what he told Austin yesterday. Apparently he truly thinks I’m an idiot who will do what people want.. if that’s what you meant to say Jacob why didn’t you just say it?? Burning Rich’s vote was a slap to the face and I bet he thinks he has the last laugh.. whatever. I realllyyyy thought I did well in the HOH and I suckedddd. Szymon absolutely kicked ass and deserved it. I. Am. Scared. It would be dumb of me to trust Szymon but you guys heard it first, I said I really liked him and meant it. But I’ve heard so many promises of safety that I’m just not comfortable because I haven’t gotten one! Yes I thought we had a good relationship but you can never be so sure!! Who would I like to see on the block??? Jared and brianna. Lana I guess. But I have absolutely zero interest in talking to Jared. Our messages CLEARLY prove he was the “mastermind” and I told him I’d do what he wanted. Ugh what an ass. I’m super scared for noms... I just want the marching band to make it!! And Ferg because apparently ferg is team Haley now?? I’ll have to report back on that but for now I’ll take it until proven otherwise...
Okay so I talked to Szymon and I feel better. I definitely would like to work with him. I don’t know if he’s just telling me what I want to hear but he basically told me he’s putting Jared up because of what he did to me. The entire marching band is worried about both noms because they think we can work with them but I honestly couldn’t be happier. Daly needs to be humbled. WHY DO PEOPLE I LOVE LIKE HIM SO MUCH I DONT GET IT?! I feel like people could be worried he needs to go, and MAYBE vote him, but I think I’d rather have Jared out. There’s no way in hell im winning that veto to save either of them if picked. I want Austin to start something with Ferg and Szymon. I think that would be a good 4. Here’s to hoping this goes well!!
Tumblr media
I felt it was necessary to create the Fash Four alliance of me, haley, szymon, and ferg because we are 4 level-headed players who are not pegged as currently working together in this game. I think we can go far but I am not sure how many comps Haley and Ferg can actually win...
I am really happy that Szymon decided to keep me safe this week! Jared going up is good for my game and Daly going up is not ideal as he is one half of the Toba Boys but I think he could use a little bit of paranoia to knock him down a few pegs from his high horse hehe
Tumblr media
I’m honestly really upset about being the renom. Earlier this week when I talked with Szymon, he told me that he would not think of nominating me and that I do not have to worry about my activity with him because he completely understands everything. So the fact that he said that and then goes and nominated me as a renom felt like he put a knife in my back.
Tumblr media
I think getting out Jared is the better option tonight over Mazden because he is more shady than Mazden and I do not know that he would keep The Marching Band save if he won
Tumblr media
trust ranking 1. bri & szymon 3. addilyn 4. elise 5. ferg 6. amanda 7. mazden 8. jakey 9. austin 10. haley 11. sara 12. lana 13. jared 14. daly 15. rich So I'm currently waiting for ferg to show he trusts me by like JHASJHASHJAJHS TELLING ME HIS ALLIANCE WITH SZYMON/HALEY/AUSTIN but nope ashjashjahsj it's not coming so he is dropping a bit. I don't think I am his number 1 at all anymore but that's fine. I really love ferg a lot and we click really well and I do think he has my back. I don't tell him about my alliances either but it's just so funny that I know and I'm like :eyes: when he talks to me about house dynamics and what not. I think he was honest with me about saying he likes me and haley best tho. I do love ferg <3 addilyn is my everything I would die for her absolutely madly in love I'm so <3 <3 <3 I'm so happy I met her in this because she's genuinely like the light of my life at the moment. she's such a warm and kind presence to be around and she's so real with me. you already know how much I love Bri and szymon. sadhdshgdasghdshg like YOU KNOW my bbs <3 just want them to do so well so badly I love Elise so so so much we just seem to connect so naturally on so many things. she's amazing. I love Amanda too helpppppppppppppppppp she's SO COOL like just so cool and fun to talk to I really love haley on a personal level she's fun to talk to and I really do like her a lot but I don't trust her at all in this game. I don't trust Austin but our relationship is odd he's either pretending to trust me too or he really does? and I can't tell??? he also told me people really like me but worry that because I like everyone my relationships with them might not be genuine so I'm like WELP cos um yeah I do get along with a lot of people that's just how I am and if they are already worrying about that that's not good. idk what to do about that tho ahhhhh and like maybe Austin said that for a game reason? who knows. hopefully I have enough genuine allies to help me get through any of that doubt people may have. idk I hope it's not like a BIG thing. maybe if I keep playing dumb I'll be fine FINGERS CROSSED ahhhh also rich has an extra point for this hoh UGH I gotta beat him so I can get him out. PLEASE
Tumblr media
I think it is in my best interest to throw this HOH comp. I know Rich/Daly/Haley will go super hard and any of them winning is ideal for me. I also don't wanna put any kind of target on my back this early by winning 2/4 HOH's
Tumblr media
omg Jacob set this house ON FIRE on his way out. Everything he wrote about me may be 100% but true but that doesn't mean I want anyone to know..... cover BLOWN :o

EPISODE 1: “This house offers no cute people, and I hate it” - DREW
.
.
.
CODY
I am playing up a character so I’m acting kinda cold to a lot of people saying short simple answers to DM’s mostly.
MANDI
aaaahhhhhhhhhhhh. i think im actually really going to love this cast.
DREW
Alright ladies and gentlemen. I'm gonna make the first text confessional and I think its gonna be very simple.
This house offers no cute people, and I hate it. I usually flirt with one man and woman in this house, and there is NO ONE cute in this cast. But I guess, this being the inaugural season of this ORG- I can't fault them because... it was probably hard for the production to find a solid group of people! That being said, the person coming closest to /cute/ is Andrew... but we'll see how it goes it from there.
DESIREE
Here are my first impressions based on the videos!
I want to be Katrina's friend. She seems like a super cool chick.
Austin seems like a good guy but it's hard to judge without a video and without chatting.
Mandi seems really distracted in her video and I worry that she will not have enough time for this game if she has so many other responsibilities.
Drew seems like a pretty chill guy, but for some reason I suspect that there will be some drama with him later on...
Pennino's a cutie. Voting him most likely to self evict. But he seems like a good kid.
Lukas is funny, I feel like he's going to be popular from the start... Not sure which way I should go with that but I should keep an eye on him.
Sooo I guess Frosby knows a bunch of people in this ORG which is certainly concerning. But he seems like a good guy.
Brooke seems like a lost sheep which may make her a good person to keep around for the numbers.
Kayla seems cool! Seems like she is knowledgeable about BBORGS but also seems pretty levelheaded. Also, she's pregnant! How sweet! As I mentioned in my video, I want to work in medicine with pregnant women so I love that.
Joe is cohosting another ORG I'm in and I feel like the other host doesn't like me so I wonder if he doesn't like me either.
Ashley seems great. She seems like someone I would hang out with.
Love Andy! I played in The Circle Online with him!
Sammy seems cool! He also mentioned time issues, but I feel like he would be active enough. He has respects for the hosts so I imagine he won't be missing too much, just might not be as active in the house chats. Probably a good person to keep around, though.
Cody hasn't provided much info except being Australian, which is pretty cool. lol
omg Chloe's video... She seems fun, seems like the kind of drunk to give a stranger a pep talk in a bar bathroom.
KAYLA
First day in the Big Brother house and I'm already part of two alliances. One I know was made by Cody the other...I'm not sure. Cody really wants this HOH which seems risky but, that's his choice, I guess. I really don't want to win HOH at all. Like...bruh lol so if somehow my guess was accurate...I'm gonna yeet myself into oblivion. Like, I want Cody to take the fall. Let him make the bloody first moves haha
FROSBY
Frosby is back in the saddle and I already have no idea what im doing... yet again. But ya know what im here to have fun god damiit and fun is what im going to have. First off im glad to see joe made this season bc BOOM instant ally gotta love the guy. 2nd Im already making some fast friends, what can I say I love talking to people. PRetty soon im going to have so many allies I wont know what to do. This season my main goal is to try and make a little more friends with more of the ladies. I realized in my last season of BB I didn't have a single girl for an ally and I feel like I sold myself short on some good quality allies. SO im going to try my best and talk to everyone and make allies with as many people as I can so I can safely make it through the early evictions. Also my plan is play it cool with challenges until post jury time and then I step up my challenge game! That is all I got for tonight ill probably come back tomorrow with a view on big players in the game. FROSBY OUT
CODY
TO sum up my first day of this game I am playing it hard and fast! I am ensuring that I have a majority alliance and it’s awesome because I was quite lucky to have a few pre game connections going into this so I’ve utilised all of them. And it helped that Brooke wanted to make an alliance with me and a few other people from it
I pitched to everyone that the game of Big Brother is a difficult one to navigate through which is the reason why I created this majority alliance. Now my goal is to win this HOH and start the game from the top. When I am at the top is when my aggressive nature will truly start to kick in. First of all when I decide who I nominate I am going to request an alliance chat with them and tell them that I’m on top they are on the bottom and they both have 0 chance of winning the game. Then proceed to put them on the block
Now hopefully me being so aggressive it will actually be a weird way of showing how loyal I am to my alliance. This could easily backfire of course but the idea is for them to perceive me as a goat. When in reality that’s what I want them to think and I will do everything I can to aggressively get things my way in this game. And if I find out that any of my allies are going against me and the alliance I’m going to be aggressive about how I call them out for it. And hopefully the perception will still be “yeah this guy might be mean but he’s also very loyal to his people let’s take someone else out over him”
PENNINO
So i'm here! I'm really happy to be here. But I see some faces like Joe, Kayla, and Brooke, which I know, and I'm kinda scared about playing with them, but I really need to start talking to people.
MANDI
So, the first day Cody made a nine person alliance. which is fine and all because i am in it but he is literally running the alliance and im not sure i really trust him at all yet.. so we will see how fast this will blow up.
KATRINA
Oh boy. I’m in over my head. There’s so many new people and I have no clue how to play this game. It’s so hard keeping track of people and who they are. I think a lot of these people know each other and have played with each other before which scares me. That means I have a disadvantage. I am an outsider and they won’t see me the same as those people that they’ve already played with. I’m going to try and stay under the radar but be very friendly since that’s what worked for me in the last org that I played in. I’ve met some really nice People so far. I really like Andrew and Austin. I hope the people that I’m talking to and making friends with her trustworthy. I would really hate if I started becoming really good friends with somebody and they turned out to go behind my back. That would really suck if I was one of the first people to leave.
DESIREE
For the record, I do not want to win the first HOH. Its too early for that power and I don't want to make a splash yet. I would rather just watch from the sidelines this week.
As my theme song said - "Take one step at a time, there's no need to rush."
JOE
I feel like I’ve made some solid bonds with the people around me. Came in knowing a lot of people, and they seem like they’re all willing to work with me. I think Mandi and frosby will be my go to’s. Surprised frosby still wants to work with me after last game but I feel like I can trust him. I think I’m in a good spot for at least these first few weeks.
BROOKE
Watching Lukas blow up unde9able is great. Especially since I was the one that ratted it out to him. He came to me and said Cody has a nine person alliance and since he’s HoH, I didn’t want to lie to him. He promised me safety in return of telling him who’s in it. I’m just gonna kick back and relax and hope he doesn’t nominate Kayla.
DREW
Unde9nable got leaked already? I wonder who told the HoH... not I, but I did tell Chloe- and girl its a MESS. I gotta act like I'm in some sort of trouble with Lukas, but after speaking with him earlier, he knows that its a front. I literally am just not feeling Cody, and his ass needs to GO. Glad to see that I have some people agreeing with me that he's fake, he sounds robotic, and that he's disingenuous! LOVE THAT FOR ME!!!
ASHLEY
Hey hey it’s already day 2 feeling okay. I kinda wish that the one on ones weren’t in my private messages but it’s okay. I am getting to know people and it’s cool. Pretty good so far. I like Lukas and Sammy. And I’m glad I didn’t win HOH I don’t want to be first and have a target.
CODY
So I’m not entirely sure what’s going to happen moving forward with my game. Obviously the HOH plan and alliance failed and I made the decision to stir the pot a little and made a particular comment which got reported. And it made me realise it’s best to stop the crazy persona.
I do feel like I do have some legit relationships in this game, people such as Joe and Kayla I’ve talked to a lot. I’m not entirely sure that they will want to play with me moving forward through. Thankfully I do have an alliance with Brooke which she started and like I said I do feel like I got a good bond with Joe and Kayla. However it’s probably not gonna be enough. I just spent some time chilling in voice chat with a few people and we had a good time. We talked essentially 0 game though which was absolutely fine, the only thing we did talk about was just me apologising for my actions however I feel like I’m definitely a dead man walking but I can try to use that to my advantage and say that I am an open number. I just hope that does not make me perceived as a wildcard
DESIREE
Daily Thoughts for Day 2:
HOH Competition: I was really trying not to win the first HOH competition, but I didn't throw it necessarily, I just didn't try at all. I didn't want to obviously throw, but I figured not trying would be enough not to win. WELL turns out I tied for 2nd out of 16 houseguests. WHOOPS. That was close. Anyway, Lukas won! I feel okay with Lukas as HOH. We have talked a bit and he consults with me game decisions, so I feel pretty safe. We don't have an explicit alliance, but we have said we'll have each other's back this week at least.
9 person alliance: So, apparently there was a majority alliance created in the first 24 hours of the game. Even worse, it seems that Cody created the alliance and just added random people in without consulting them first. That seems messy af. Lukas blew up the alliance in the house after someone leaked it to him. I mean, are you surprised it got leaked if people didn't even want to be in it? I would have leaked it too! Lukas may have created a target on his back by blowing that up, but it seems like most people in the house are on his side because most people weren't committed to that alliance anyway.
House Meeting: After the alliance was exposed, Cody decided to call a house meeting. He explained that he came in here and decided to play a "drill sergeant" character. He quickly realized that he was rubbing people the wrong way after he got reported for threatening physical violence. He will play as himself from now on. He was trying to save his own ass, but I think it's too late for him.
Houseguest Connections:
The person I'm the closest with in the house so far is Frosby. We got to chatting on the first night about board games and the conversation just flowed really easily. He was a part of that 9 person "alliance" but that doesn't really concern me because I believe that he was just added willy nilly and didn't have any stake in it. Other than that, I've talked game with Lukas the most. I don't have any solid alliances formed, but I wanted to wait until week 2 to really start solidifying things. I prefer to take the time to get to know people before committing to alliances.
MANDI
well first nomination ceremony went good!! i totally forgot pennino was in the game.😳 i feel bad because he is in such a different time zone then all of us buuuuut. i was nominated so thats good. i am trying my best to just be social with everyone. i have talked to ash and desiree on vc but other than that i havent talked to them at all. i have yet to talk to pennino at all. but other than that i have mostly talked to everyone either through dm or in the house chat. i am honestly scared this game.😂 i have no idea what ANYONE is thinking. im worried about brooke and kayla because they are so close and know about me and joe. i know they are eventually going to try and break me and him up. joe will always be my number one and i will always protect my little brother.😎
PENNINO
So this is a bad situation. But I want to work with Lukas. Keep your enemies REALLY close
ANDREW
My thought on my housemates so far.
(They will be rank 1-15 purposely, it’s just a first impression rank, not everything in written in stone)
1. Lukas (we’ve had a good connection, very fluid conversation, nice dude, TOP ally rn, he wasn’t part of the 9 person alliance)
2. Frosby (he contacted me, and he was very nice, very cool, he was part of the 9 person alliance, and we were both a bit Wary about it too.)
3. Mandi (my twinsie)
4. Sammy (he’s very nice, a bit busy, but when he has a break, he talks and it’s very fluid)
5. Desiree (i know her from another org, and she maybe an ally, like be a huge threat because she knows I play a good social game)
6. Katrina (i respect her for her career choice, also she said I was funny, and well now I love her lol)
7. Chloe (party girl, fun to talk to her, that character can also be an act, but benefit of the doubt)
8. Drew (he’s Zen, cool, i like him)
9. Ashley (she’s cute, i like her for now)
10. Kayla (i got no solid opinion of Kayla rn)
11. Brooke (she’s very active, i like that, but she has already a social game going on, and obviously I’m not part of it, but that can benefit me, for now)
12. Joe (who?)
13. Austin (weed bro, doesn’t talk much)
14. Cody (catfish)
15. Pennino (he’s very young, and has a very weird time difference, I’ve played a previous org with him, and he didn’t talk at all, i bet he bites more than he can chew)
That’s is my initial ranking of my houseguests.
My strategy for this game is “smile and wave”, this is 80 days, and the dying star will be mainly based on vengeance on another houseguest or if they think it’s a threat. Keep it cute, this game is basically called the “long con”. I’m ready to play.
DESIREE
Daily Thoughts for Day 3:
Lukas nominated Cody & Pennino today, and then Sammi, Chloe, & Frosby were picked. I feel good with the nominees, Cody already blew up his game and I haven't really talked to Pennino at all. I am happy to not be picked for POV as well, because I want to lay low in the game for now. I am happy that Frosby got picked though, because he is my ally so if he wins I can at least feel involved from the sidelines.
CODY
Alright so according to a few people I might actually be safe...it’s hard to believe anything that you are told in this game. But if I’m safe then fuck yessss I’m back in it.
It seems as though people’s views and thoughts on me have changed mostly and the votes actually might not all be coming my way. However I’m still not expecting to be kept safe because they could just be trying to make me feel comfortable!
If I do survive I am going to try and lay low for a bit. I’m probably going to throw the next HOH, still undecided. I don’t wanna draw too much attention onto myself because if I’m in a position of nominating people straight away after surviving then people might change how they feel about me yet again especially if they’re on the receiving end of a nomination
I am also probably not going to set up any alliances either unless I feel I absolutely need to. I think instead I’m going to try and be looked upon as kind of a floating free agent. I might only try to win vetos if I get picked for them
DESIREE
Daily Thoughts for Day 4:
Sammy won POV and didn't use it. I think that was the right decision. Final nominees are Cody & Pennino. Lukas told me he doesn't care who goes home and that it's up the house, but it seems like Pennino is a pawn here. I think if there is someone in the group who is so obviously making waves, they should go for the first week. In the coming weeks, we can worry about bigger threats, but first week, I'm more in favor of evicting the person who is the most controversial.
ASHLEY

DREW
Absolutely gaggin.
Like this is how the first week is gonna end? People are gonna claim that CODY is the least threatening player than a 14 year-old. Absolutely bonkers man. Did I sign up to play Big Brother or Hopscotch? Like my god- the way that Ashley and Brooke are going around trying to PERSUADE the other houseguests that Cody is the one to keep. AND it doesn't help matters when I'm supposed to be aligned with Joe/Mandi/Katrina, and they're all like- yeah Cody isn't a competition threat and a vote shield!?
AND WHAT OF THE DAMN 14 YEAR OLD? HUH? WHAT DOES THAT MAKE HIM?!?
Like I understand that Pennino isn't the most active, but why are we gonna be wasting a WEEK on him when he's probably gonna strike out for inactivity or something down the line?!? LIKE I DON'T UNDERSTAND. Everyone here is thinking on the short term, and I honestly hate it. I really do.
Bollocks. I'm just so over everything that has transpired in the last 24 hours. And if this is any indication on how the rest of the game will be- then I'm gonna make it my damn mission to make sure that I get Ashley, Brooke, Frosby, Joe, and Andrew out of here. Trust and believe.
MANDI
soooo. kayla and sammy came to me and said they wanted to flip the votes and evict cody. i told them if they had the votes i would go wherever the house went. well my alliance with joe, drew, and katrina said we had the votes to keep cody. we have frosby, brooke, joe, drew, katrina, ashley, desiree, and maybe chloe?? i dont know and then me. i told sammy that they didnt have the votes to flip and that cody would be a good vote shield if we were ever on the block with him. so i finally convinced sammy to keep cody. sorry kayla and austin! i am just going where the house goes. i honestly dont care who goes home but i think keeping cody is our best option going forward in the game. plus pennino hasnt talked to me at all and i think i can trust cody.
BROOKE
Kayla really wants Cody gone but I think he should stay.. I really don’t want to go against her or lie to her but if I have to, I will.

MistyMountainHop’s That ‘70s Show Fanfic that Never Was: #9
A few years ago, I wrote a partial draft and outline of a One Difference story, but other stories stole my creative attention. I’d held off from sharing this one here because I thought I might finish it someday, but that seems highly doubtful now (I’m working on several other stories I very much hope to post).
Remember, first drafts are just that: first drafts. I revise a story a lot before I post it on FFNet and AO3 (which is one reason why I take longer to put out new stories than other people). Beware clunky sentences and other strange, first drafty things (*lol*).
And now, without further discussion, I present...
PUBLIC ACCESS aka One Difference: Hyde Doesn't Pass Out (at the Beer Warehouse)
August 18, 1979 Point Place, Wisconsin The Pinciottis' Living Room
Jackie and Donna finished off their joint. The smoke hadn't made Jackie feel better about Steven's absence, and being surrounded by the tacky décor of Donna's living room didn't help matters either. Aqua and silver belonged at the bottom of the ocean together, as a rusting hull of a ship and the water surrounding it. They didn't belong in a house. Donna was going on about starting a rock band called the Sandy Sandals, but sand reminded Jackie of dirt, and dirt reminded her of Steven. She'd given him an ultimatum, either he proposes or she leaves for Chicago to start a life without him. He had until noon tomorrow, seventeen hours from now, but as each minute ticked by, her heart sank lower and lower in her body, like that silver ship. Rusting and rotting at the bottom of the sandy ocean. And now she was back to Steven. “You know,” she said, “I thought if I really put myself out there he’d see how much I love him and say yes right away. And then when he didn’t, I thought, 'Okay, well, maybe he’ll take a couple hours and then say yes.'” She frowned, even though it would give her frown lines. “But now I think he’s only taking so long ‘cause he’s gonna say no.” Her heart plummeted to her knees. “Donna, what if he says no?” “Jackie, if Hyde says no, then you and I get a van,” Donna said, smiling, “and the Sandy Sandals tour America.” A thick candle was lit on the coffee table behind the couch. She took it and gazed into the flame, but she replaced it on the table when hot wax dripped on her hand. “Anyway, men are stupid. Eric knows who I work with at the radio station. There's no Kevin. He should've realized I was trying to make a point by saying I had a date tonight. But at least I hurt him a little, like he hurt me a lot by deciding to go to Africa without even talking to me about it.” “Men are stupid,” Jackie said. “Steven has the most beautiful, talented woman on the planet wanting to spend the rest of her life with him, and all he can do is say, 'I don't know'? Idiot.” “Well, helloooo, toots!” Eric said. He was at the hallway door, and he stumbled down the one step to the recessed living room. “Back from your date so soon, huh? Used to be you had to buy a girl dinner if you'd want her to ...” he gestured at Donna, “slide all over you, moaning like a ghost.” Jackie and Donna share a disgusted look. Then Steven stumbles down the step and bumps into Eric. “Outta the way, Forman.” “Steven?” Jackie jumps up from the couch. Donna stands up behind her and says, “Okay, you know what? I didn’t have a date, but I should’ve.” “Wait, so you lied?” Eric says, and Steven looks unsteady on his feet, like he's about to fall over. Jackie pushes Eric out of the way, and Eric crashes to the floor. But Jackie doesn't care. She supports Steven, who's swaying on his feet. “What happened?” Donna goes to Eric's side and helps him up. “They're drunk-a-duck. Daffy Duck. Wascally wabbits..” Eric says, “And you're high.” Donna giggles. “Yeah.” Jackie, though, thinking about Steven then seeing Steven, has sobered up a bit. “Drunk?” “Jackie,” Steven says, “I gotta tell you somethin', Jackie … but first, I gotta get on the floor.” “What?” Jackie says, but Steven's already on his knees.
He lies down on his side. “Wait, this is no good. Gonna fall asleep.” He pushes himself back to his knees. In the corner of the room, Donna has sat Eric down at the Pinciottis' round white table. They were discussing something, a little too loudly, but Jackie did her best to block them out. Steven was taking off his sunglasses. He tossed them onto the floor by her feet. “Jackie,” he says, looking up at her, “I'm freakin' wasted.” “And?” Jackie says. “I was in a beer paradise, man,” he says and grabs Jackie's left hand. “Hills of booze stacked on top of hills, but I left it for you.” Jackie's heart starts to lift from her feet. She wasn't sure if what was happening was really happening. Her breathing was short, and her head was already in a daze from the circle she'd had with Donna. “And?” Steven says, “I quit drinkin', too, when something finally sounded right to me.” “What sounded right?” Jackie says. Steven is playing with the fingers of her left hand. She doesn't know whether to love it or hate it. “I'm gonna be Mrs. Jackie Hyde.” “Excuse me?” Steven swayed again on his knees, and he held onto Jackie's hand tightly. “But I also gotta say this: fuck you for giving me an ultimatum. You pissed me off…” his words were slurring together, and Jackie fought to make them out, “but then I thought about you never pissin' me off again, and I hated it. So...” He inched closer to her on his knees and wrapped his arms around her legs. His cheek pressed into her thigh, and his eyes shut, but a wide grin slid over his face. “I'll be your wife.” “Oh, Steven...” Her fingers dipped into his curls, and she considered tugging on them really hard until he sobered up and proposed to her properly. But who was she to judge? She was high, and the aqua walls were undulating like waves to her eyes. Steven hugged her legs tighter. “Screw Chicago, Grasshopper—” “Grasshopper?” both Donna and Eric said from the table. “Shut up and talk about Kevin,” Jackie said, but she and Steven clearly had an audience. And, for some reason, Eric's pants were down by his ankles and exposed his boxers. “We've already established there's no Kevin,” Donna said. “And we can't shut up and talk at the same time,” Eric said. “Whatever.” Jackie refocused on Steven, who was looking up at her again. His bleary eyes were pleading with her. “Will you still feel the same way when you're sober?” she said, not that he could answer this truthfully until he actually was sober, but she had to ask. Steven says, “Yeah. I love you...” his grin returns, “Beulah.” “Aww!” Donna and Eric both say, and Jackie's heart soars into her chest. Steven had called her Beulah, her despised middle name, and Grasshoper, his pet name for her. He knew who he was talking to. “Where's my ring?” Jackie says. Steven says, “Some store … somewhere. Oh, but I got this beer wrapper I could put on your wrist.” He disentangles one arm from around Jackie's legs and rummages around in his jeans pocket. “No, that's fine.” Jackie helps Steven to his feet. “We'll discuss rings and wedding plans and everything in the morning—after your hangover wears off.” Steven's arm slinks around Jackie's shoulders, partially to support himself. She walks with him toward the hallway, light-headed from the smoke and Steven's drunken proposal. “But know this: if you try to back out of the engagement tomorrow, you'll never see me again.” Steven stops her then and envelops her in a hug. “Not gonna back out,” he whisper-slurs in her ear. “And quit freakin’ threatening me, all right?” Jackie's pulse tightens. He considers her abandonment of him a threat. He'd said this to her before, when she'd broken up with him at Christmas. “No more threats,” she whispers back, “as long as you're committed to us.”
“God help me … I'm committed,” Steven says. “Should be committed to the nuthouse, but I'm committed.” “Good enough,” Jackie says. Then, excitedly, “I'll be your straight jacket of love!” Steven's lips land on her cheek in a clumsy but warm kiss. “Wouldn't have it any other way.”
June 5, 1981 Point Place, Wisconsin PPTV Cable Access
Jackie's sitting at her desk, for the opening segment of her public access television show. The studio's bright blue sign hangs on the thick, black curtain behind her. As usual, Donna's manning the camera. Eric's waiting in his section of the studio, and Steven's on audio, playing music and special effects and the like. Donna had given him a quick lesson in using the soundboard—since she couldn't be both the cameraman and the soundman. During the summer, Jackie has a half-hour show every Friday night. She, Donna, and Eric each earn a half-credit on their college transcripts by doing this show. The University of Wisconsin-Madison looks kindly upon students with initiative and creative drive. And Steven helps out because he loves Jackie. This is their second show of the year (of their second season), but by the fan letters Jackie's gotten in the show's P.O. Box in the last week alone, their watchers are back. Usually, she ends her show by reading a letter or two and answering it, but today she's making an exception. “Hello, Wisconsin,” Jackie says, even though their show  reaches only the citizens of Point Place. A letter is in her hands. “Tonight, I'd like to open the show with a letter I received from Nancy H:
“'Dear Jackie, when are you and Steven setting a wedding date? You've been engaged for two years now. Get married already and make a zillion babies.'  ”Oh, and look, she dotted her eyes with hearts, like I do. Thank you for your letter and question, Nancy.” Jackie glances over at Hyde, who's sitting at the audio mixing table, out of view of the camera. He nods his approval at her, though he'd already given her the okay her earlier in the week. Jackie says, “I'm pleased to report Steven and I have finally set a date! I graduate college in the winter of '83, and we decided to have a Spring wedding in '84. Yes, it may seem like a long time from now, but once Steven put this on my finger,” she shows off her engagement ring, “he wasn't getting out of the engagement—except on pain of death. And believe me, I would make his death very painful.” A man's scream blasts out of the speakers at the foot of Jackie's desk. Steven's humor. “Oh,” Jackie says, looking directly at Steven, “you'd sound much worse than that.” Steven laughs, and Jackie fights not to laugh, too. This was regular banter between them. Steven. The morning—well, afternoon—after his drunken proposal to her two years ago, he proposed to her again, sober, without prompting. It was the first thing he'd done after his pair of aspirin kicked in and took away his hangover headache.
He’d said, “It's gonna take you more than two years to get me writing thank-you notes and speakin' French … but you got 'em. Jackie, I wanna live my life with you, man. Even if it sends me to a padded cell. 'Cause the future I see without you...”
He’d shaken his head, and she understood. He didn’t like what he'd seen, just like she'd been terrified of what her life would turn into without him. But neither of them had to go down that road anymore. They were fully committed to each other now, and each day they had together proved they'd made the right choice. And her fans seemed to think so, too. They knew, among other things, of her ups and downs with Steven. Discussing her life had become a vital segment on the show, and after she pulled herself together from Steven's laughter, she launched into the story when Steven caught her trying on a wedding dress at the mall. “You should have seen his face when he saw me,” Jackie said. “I thought he was furious, but he was in awe of my beauty. He blurted out as much, and I told him of my—our—wedding plans. We'll be having a flock of white doves flying overhead after our kiss.” Jackie reached beneath the desk and pulled out a photograph pasted to stiff, black card-paper. She'd cut the picture out of a bridal magazine, and it depicted the scene she envisioned. “The sun will be setting behind me so I have an angelic halo, and—” “I shut her in the dressing room and walked away,” Steven said. He was standing beside her now, behind the desk. He must've sneaked on camera while she was distracted. Talking about her wedding usually did that to her. “Should've stopped you from talking a more fun way.” She turned to him. “Yes, you should ha—”
Steven bent down toward her, cupped her cheeks, and kissed her. And he was still kissing her. She waved at Donna to cut to the next segment. Sometimes, a make-out with one's fiancé took precedence over stardom.
~ERIC'S POV~ Eric's annoyed that Hyde abandoned his post to shove his tongue down Jackie's throat. Doesn't he know they were in the middle of a show? Now Eric has to hum the Star Wars theme song instead of the actual thing playing on the speakers at the foot of his mini stage.
We get how Eric was recruited for the show. How it's affected his self-esteem with fan-mail. How Jackie's revealed too much of his private life with Donna.
~FROM THE OUTLINE~
--MAKE THAT GIRL CRY is also a segment on Jackie's show that she and Hyde do vs. other couples. So it's not just girls but guys, too. Hyde and Jackie are the champions at this, but the enticement is that anyone who can make Jackie or Hyde cry wins a prize. --Over the last two years, Jackie has shared her personal life on the show during her opening monologue, and the theme of the show always follows what she'd shared. So her audience knows all about her ups and downs with Hyde during season 7. She's also discussed Eric and Donna's relationship. --When Eric came back from Africa, Jackie recruited him for her show. She wanted to reach another demographic, the geek demographic. So Eric got his very own Geek Corner where he reviews movies and toys. Jackie comes on at the end of his segments to give her opinion. --Ever since Eric's segments started, Jackie's gotten fanmail saying how cute Eric is. She's also gotten fanmail about how foxy Hyde is and how hot she herself is. One letter she's got was obscene but nothing that ended up dangerous. No follow-up letters from that particular viewer, but Jackie was advised to keep that letter on file just in case. --After Jackie announces her engagement, the quality of her letters becomes different. There are lots of congratulatory letters saying how perfect she and Hyde are for each other, but then she gets a batch of weird, unexpected letters about how fans thought she and Eric had something going on. One person writes a twenty-page diatribe going through everything Jackie's discussed about her relationship with Hyde and how bad he is for her. That she and Eric should really go out at least once to see if there's anything there. At first, she thinks this is ridiculous, and Eric thinks it's disgusting. Hyde thinks it's hilarious, and Donna just dismisses it. But once Jackie gets that diatribe letter, she goes public. In her opening monologue, she addresses the people who think she and Eric should be together. She explains frankly what she thinks about Eric physically, how she's never been physically attracted to him and why. And she also invites Donna and Eric to discuss how in love they are with each other. This is responded to by several disturbing letters. One says how Jackie can't be physically repulsed by Eric because she loved his shoulders in a groom's tux while she was in a wedding dress. Jackie responds to this, saying how the fan misinterpreted her story about wedding shopping—”Let's get this straight, people—I went shopping for Eric and Donna, not with Eric.”
Jackie goes onto explain that she was impressed with her own tux-choosing abilities, that she could give bony, no-shoulders Eric the illusion of shoulders. She wasn't attracted to Eric in that tux or to his fake shoulders. She was turned on by her own skill. And when she and Eric posed in the mirror together as bride and groom, she was imagining Steven.
ERIC chimes in, saying, “And I was imagining Donna... and admiring my shoulders.” Jackie says the most important part of that day was when Steven spotted her in the wedding dress and blurted that she was beautiful. She knew then they'd someday get married, and even during their break-ups last year, she held onto the awestruck look on his face when he stared at her in that dress.
Jackie says, “So get it out of your crazy minds that I have any romantic feelings for Eric ‘Eww’ Forman. No mater how much you want it to be true, it's simply not true. Steven is the love of my life. He always has been and always will be.” Afterward, Eric says she did a nice job, but did she have to add the “Eric 'Eww' Forman” bit in there?
Jackie says yes. She has to get it through to that niche of fans that she and Eric were never a thing and will never be a thing. THEN Jackie gets a manuscript in the mail. It's several hundred pages long and bound together in a binder. In it, Hyde stayed at the beer warehouse with his friends, and Jackie ran off to Chicago. Hyde went after her, only to find her with Kelso in a seemingly compromising situation.
In the manuscript, Hyde assumes the worst, like he did with the nurse (yes, Jackie revealed this on her show), and he goes to Vegas and comes back and marries a stripper named Sam. Donna becomes best friends with Sam and is horrible to Jackie.
In the manuscript, Jackie is distraught and writes Eric a letter about all that’s happened. Eric is disgusted with Donna and breaks up with her in a letter. Then he and Jackie begin a torrid love affair through letters. Jackie read through all of the manuscript, disgusted, and tosses it to Hyde. Hyde is miffed at the content. He says he'd never do shit like that. Jackie says she knows.
Hyde says that assuming the worst about Jackie (and sleeping with the nurse to break up with Jackie) was the worst mistake of his life, and he'd promised both Jackie and himself he'd never do it again. Hyde's shame is brought up again, and Jackie reassures Hyde she knows he didn't sleep with the nurse out of lust but out of pain and anger.
Hyde tells her to stop, that she shouldn't be defending what he did -- or comforting him about it. She says she isn’t defending it -- or him -- but that she understands his motives and trusts that he’s learned from his mistakes.
Jackie wants to burn the manuscript, but Hyde says Forman and Donna need to read it. Jackie is all right with this. They read it, and Eric is gags at the Jackie/Eric romance, especially the sexy bits. Donna can't bring herself to read that part. Jackie, furious, goes on the air. Her monologue consists of a ten-minute make-out with Hyde. She tells Donna to move the shot close on their mouths. Donna does. Afterward, Jackie says, “And that's my opening statement” (which her usual sign-off for her opening monologue each show). During Eric's segment that show, he and Donna are shown making out, too. That segment ends with Jackie walking on, saying, “And this concludes today's Geek Makes-Out with an Amazon segment.” The show’s fans have gotten rowdy. They start showing up at the station during filmings. They consist of both Jackie/Eric fans and Hyde/Jackie fans. They show up with signs. The fans are people obsessed with Eric, Hyde, and Jackie separately and together. Security is called to disperse the crowd, but not before someone shouts at Donna, “Eric’s too good for you! You’re such a bitch to him!” Jackie is surprised so many people find Eric attractive. “I mean, Eric? He's disgusting.”
Eric says, “I'm right here!”
Jackie says, “I know! I guess there are fetishes for everything, from huge-footed redheads to skeletal, twitchy, spidery-fingered men.”
Hyde's impressed by Jackie's burning ability, and Donna tells him not to encourage her. Jackie goes through her letters, and she gets one that's about how awful Donna was to Eric, and how perfect Eric is and why. Donna snatches the letter from Jackie's fingers. Donna says she bets that crazy “fan”-stalker who wrote the manuscript also wrote this letter. She says that this person idealizes Eric and demonizes her because that fan is obsessed with Eric and refuses to see reality. “I'll fix that,” Donna says. “Jackie, I need a favor.” Donna gives the day's opening statement, and she goes on air angrily defending herself. She points out all the times Eric was an ass to her, and all the times she was great to Eric. Then she says, “But, no. All you want to do is see me as a bitch because that way, you can dismiss Eric's imperfections. He is not the perfect man, people. He's perfect for me, but he's human and flawed like anyone else. And—” Eric chimes in, saying, “Donna's not the devil or a bitch. Yes, she has a temper, but more often than not I've earned it. I had these antiquated views on gender that she's had to snap me out of.”
He gives examples of his chauvinism. He also explains how her father raised her with the idea that women were the “lesser gender” and that Donna's always had to fight against that, and that Eric sometimes repeated her father's offenses.
Eric admits he did that because he's had a tough time feeling like a man, and Donna's strength used to make him aware of his weaknesses, but he's since realized that her strength doesn't diminish him. In fact, it makes him stronger, inspires him to be better than he is. Donna, totally turned on, says, “I love you!” And they start Frenching. Jackie moves the camera away from them before she throws up.

day 12, Amalfi walkabout and too many pictures
Woke up at 5h00 feeling amazingly refreshed and well rested and heard one of the staff come in to start the day. The light rain from the evening turned in to a real gully-washer around 06h30, but it lightened up before breakfast started around eight.
Since the rooftop patio was wet and it was still lightly raining, Rita gave me a tray to take my breakfast selections and coffee back to my room to enjoy. No egg here for breakfast, but a selection of pastries and delicious cakes as well as meats and cheeses.
I was hoping to do the Path of the Gods today, but everything was really wet and it wasn’t until midmorning before the rain let up so I didn’t think was a wise choice. I guess I’ll just have to come back and plan a longer stay to accommodate the vagaries of the weather.
I did wonder if I’d be able to start extra early the next day and make it back in time to get to Salerno to catch my train, but it would depend on transport back to Amalfi from Positano. Hmm. Or maybe it’s just a reason to come back
I decided to check to see if the ferries were running and maybe I’d head to Positano for part of the day and see what there is to see, but unfortunately the ferries were not running at all, so it was more bus or a long walk there and hopefully the buses wouldn’t be too full for the return. Or, I could just hike around the area and see what there is to see.
Ummm, FYI: hiking won!
Well, actually, it didn’t start off as an intention to hike. I looked up the directions from Amalfi to Positano on foot and saw it was only about 6 hours via the Path of the Gods, but with no ferry service and yesterday’s crowded bus experience, I was reluctant to find myself in Positano with limited options for my return before dark.
So, I decided to explore more of Amalfi and maybe head up toward some of the buildings I could see clinging to the mountains above us.
On my wanderings I stumbled upon a staircase and decided to head for the heights to get some more pictures. I kept going up at every opportunity, until I was following a staircase into the woods and up a mountain. Hmm, a path to the Dwarrowdelf? Well, no, but I certainly chuckled at the thought!
As I enjoyed the easy climb, the smell of the trees, and the truly vibrant green of my surroundings, I couldn’t help wondering why the staircase was built, when was it built, was it ever the main “road” from Amalfi to somewhere else, and whose footsteps was I walking in now?
At one point I noticed a faded number painted on one of the steps, but I didn’t know what it could mean. A while later I looked down from all the trees and the incredible views glimpsed between the leaves and I noticed another, the number 400, painted on the steps. Eventually, a “few” steps later the painted numbers reached 700 and I got a little more curious and started to count. Fourty-six “steps” later I saw the number 746 painted on a stone step and concluded that the count was probably of the number of stair steps.
By now we’d left the forest behind and the steps were now climbing through a populated area with homes and businesses. I didn’t know where I was, but hey, that’s why I’ve got google maps and GPS on my phone!
I was pretty high up, but still not at the top of the surrounding mountains and I was feeling awesome. There’s something so invigorating and inspiring about climbing mountains and it’s especially easy when there are paths or even stairs.
At the end of these stairs, I picked a direction and started to explore. It looks like I came out close to the Grand Hotel Excelsior, it’s just around the little valley below me and there’s a road that circles toward it near my current elevation. Wow. Nice views!
I wandered around for a bit until it was time to head back and initially thought I’d find the road back to town, but then realized that I wanted more nature and less asphalt, so I went back to the stairs.
When I got back to town, I checked the hours on a local laundry service and went back to my hotel to collect stuff to wash. I made it to the laundry place just as they opened after siesta/lunch and managed to convince the lady there to have it ready tonight for 19h00. Yay!
It’s entertaining sometimes to observe tourist behaviour. Most tourists here are simply walking the street as though it’s a pedestrian thoroughfare even though it’s not. There are cars and carts that run on the main street, just not many.
Moving around Amalfi there are other passages including a covered one to the right of the main street after the main square as you head in from the sea that goes for a few blocks. They’re often not as crowded as the main street since tourists don’t seem to notice them and you encounter more locals that way.
I’ve smiled at a lot of elderly women here and been buongiorno’d and buonasera’d in a nice, friendly, enthusiast way all about town.
Oh, and I don’t want to stereotype, but I must say some of these local women certainly enjoy debates with each other! Since I don’t speak Italian, I have no idea what they were talking about but on more than one occasion when there were two women walking in one of those covered passageways, it got very spirited. Once, they even giggled as I passed by. Friendly, but weird.
Experience tells me that Amalfi is a very nice friendly town, not sure why the friendliest were the older women; it must be a traditional hospitality type thing.
After dropping off my laundry, I went down to the shore to relax, sit by the sea and read a bit, even though the breeze was a little cool. I did see some people walking around in parkas, but most were less encumbered. Personally, I thought the temp was just right with the occasional cooling breeze, but not everyone is Canadian. LOL.
At the appointed time, I picked up my laundry and brought it back to my room before heading out to scrounge dinner.
Sometimes it’s tough figuring out what to eat. I’m trying to stick to certain dietary principles, follow my own likes at least a little, and still enjoy things. The weather was looking iffy again, so I didn’t want to sit outside and after walking for a bit and reading menus, I determined I was in the mood for take-away pizza. I bought a bottle of wine and walked around trying to figure out what restaurant would have what I wanted and chose Pizza Express, a little hole in the wall (almost literally), on the main street of Amalfi town.
I don’t know what I actually ordered, but she translated the menu for me, and I picked something with “bacon” and onion then added more meat (ham). LOL. So, you could say I got a mostly meat pizza to go, brought it home, popped the cork on the wine and sat back to enjoy just as the clouds tried to lighten their load and climb over the mountains. BEAUTIFUL! It was a moment to make my heart sing: delicious food, good wine, amazing view, and a day so filled with joy, fun, and discovery that I felt sated in a most delightful way.
It didn’t matter that the day didn’t happen as originally planned, nope! The day was just right.
After enjoying the pizza, I spent that evening on the couch in my room watching the rain, listening to the sound of it and the almost imperceptible sound of people. No passionate serenade this evening and the sax practice was a bit muffled with more song and less scales. LOL.
You know, there are different kinds of rain and we saw all types while here in Amalfi. There’s the light or light mist sort and there’s the dark grey, kinda heavy, gotta-piss-on-everyone-to-get-over-the-mountain variety. Of course, it all pales compared to the black cloud, super heavy wall of water falling from the sky kind too. But we had them all in the short day and a half here.
Far, far, too little time in this place. Wow, I almost hate to leave for Rome tomorrow; I wish I had another couple of days here.
I really like this part of Italy. I’d love to hike this coast and even explore some of the national parkland here some day soon. It’s so awesomely vibrant and the air feels and smells so fresh and alive!
I’m hearing church bells through the rain, lots of church bells. Happy sigh.

Episode #7: "keep me because im so cute :3" - Zach
Tumblr media Tumblr media
omg i forgot to confess bc i was so busy.... so this last round was honestly p straightforward. the ~international~ alliance stuck together. i feel bad cos liam is the loml but ): a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.
lowkey pissed the other tribe didn’t send me to the basement. they can choke !
i’m nervous about the joint tribal bc let’s be real i’ll be going. i’m nervous for whatever tribe goes with us cos if it’s atilla i’m worried someone i’m close with will leave. tho honestly i would flip on stephen z. so we’ll see!
i’m feeling rly close to luke and i’m excited to potentially make merge w him (:
Tumblr media
Winning this immunity challenge is a double-edged sword. I'm immune at what will probably be a chaotic joint tribal, and LIKELY going to be making it to the merge soon. At least I hope so. But there's two major drawbacks, and I want to talk about why I'm worried about each of them.
Number one is obvious, I can't socialize with the 4 Kato members that will be at this vote. They'll be meeting 4 more original Takagi members and potentially bonding with them while I'm sitting here in what is basically exile. I need to pay even more attention to my first impressions because these players are definitely going to have some kind of deal going before I show up.
The second is just as important. i won't be at this tribal council, meaning I can potentially lose an ally here without having any ability to change plans for the better. If Karth or Ally get voted out here, my game takes a huge hit. A hit that I might have been able to prevent if I was there with Jess and Alyssa.
But, I'm gonna enjoy this safety while it lasts. I want my last few moments away from the merge to be stress free, since I know things are really going to pick up once every piece is on the board.
Tumblr media
i'm going to tribal for the second time this game, and it's a joint tribal. rip. i am riddled with fear and stress.
i don't think i should be targeted. i believe i've maintained a solid social game and appear as a benefit to most people. i trust karthik/tim enough to not vote me, and i think i've developed somewhat of a grounding with jake/miguel. though ally/stephen/luke may identify me as a physical threat, i think ally knows keeping me is best purely for a shield purpose.
however, there is that little voice in the back of your head. the one that says "you're a physical/social threat!" and "it's the (probable) last vote for premerge, why wouldn't they take out a threat???" - though i disagree with this logic in terms of how i feel/play orgs, you can never know until it's too late. personally, i'd be taking out a goat or someone who is playing a similar game as you. if you're a shield, take out a shield. if you're UTR social, take out another person who is UTR and social. you want to be the BEST at your role, and i don't think anyone is as big of a shield as me (atm, of course). maybe i'm overhyping my game (and p.s., in no way am i saying i'm playing a good game, i just mean physically im pretty dominant).
jake mentioned stephen being an endgame threat due to his social game and likeability. he (stephen) is someone i wouldn't mind taking out. i have no connection with him, and he has had a tendency to flip on alliances (confirmed by jake/miguel/ally; the TJ vote). it just seems too obvious.
as for my idol, i'm not sure. if the person i vote (stephen, whoever.) is idolled in any regard, i'm likely idolling. i am NOT leaving premerge with an idol - that's ugly. but it's a tribal with no advantage i fear most. i don't want to overthink it. i've wasted so many idols because i critiqued every little word + action. i want this game to be different. i'm totally using it tomorrow bc im a paranoid mess btw. but i truly would love to save this idol (if i'm safe, of course) for future use.
in the wise words (or title) of that one type of game at the killing floor in Murder Trivia on Jackbox Games:
decisions, decisions…
i KNOW I JUST I CONFESSED BUT
idk. my fear is that it's final 11 right now. merge is in the horizon. if this joint tribal (for me) was any earlier, i'd be more secured i think. they don't need me for tribal immunities anymore. so, what will they decide?? keep me because im so cute :3 or throw me in a ditch and call it a day.
Tumblr media
OK SO FIRST SORRY FOR THE LACK OF CONFESSIONALS I'VE BEEN SO BUSY WITH MY 1st ever THEATRE PRODUCTION. And I haven't been able to talk to anyone at all which bites. I am lucky that my team sat me out for this challenge because I woulf have flopped but we flopped anyway lol.
NOW WE'RE AT A JOINT TRIBAL NNNNNNNNN and i do not approve.   Jake talked to me and pushed the idea of staying with the 5 on kato 2.0. I totally agree with this but we just need to come up with a name…
Tumblr media
By some miracle.... Attila came together this round and... actually..beat.... the... other... two... tribes. LIKE YASSSSS QUEEN YASSSS! I'm almost certain we will be merging next so it's always nice to know that you didn't suck enough to NOT make merge?
Speaking of merge, that's all up in the air for me right now. I still have no idea what my merge plan is.... I'd love to link up with Tim, Karthik, and Stephen but something tells me nothing is ever that simple. I can see a world where Tim, Karth, and Zach got extremely close. I can also see Tim's paranoia about me and Alyssa grow out of control and that's just something I'm going to have to deal with in this game. It's a fact.
I really want to end Zach's game FAST. I'm really afraid he's going to just keep winning immunities and that's going to suck.
Going forward I DO hope the trio of myself, Alyssa, and Stephen stick together but lord... I don't see that lasting very long either..
Let's just say... I'm prepared to get messy. Messica is here y'all!
Tumblr media
Something fishy is going on here. So Zach is, without a doubt, the biggest physical threat in this game. Ally tells me the best way to move the votes is to vote out a threat. I say Zach. Ally says no, Karthik and Tim would never vote out Zach. But you just said we should target a threat... Oh, i see, you meant an OG Kato threat. Right, ok. Its worrying that Jake is being shady and lying to me when he really needs to open his eues and see that if he doesnt work with us then OG takagi is gonna vote us out 1 by 1
I’m going home but ive told ally i have an idol cause i might leave but ill be damned if i dont make an impact before i go
Tumblr media
a timeline of my thoughts throughout this tribal that i’ll probably end up dying in for being messy: — 12pm: i’m worried about getting votes bc for jake and miguel i’m the only person they don’t know well miguel knows me obviously but not in game — 4pm: THESE PPL ARE ALL MESSY kato 2.0 is gonna control the vote and at this point i’m just gonna seal stephen’s fate byeeee i tried to get a majority but stephen is an idiot and only wants to vote zach so i’m going to go shove him under a bus to zach now and hopefully they’ll kill him ! — 5pm: jk i hate all of og takagi they can all choke stephen is gonna try and get all of og kato to vote together and i'm voting with them bc fuck zach fuck karth ! tim is ok we don't rly talk i'm gonna try to flip miguel i have low hopes but we'll see — 5:30pm: i’m being so messy but i don't even care bc i'm sick of being ignored by ppl who are allegedly!!! my allies!!! — 6pm: WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENINGGGGH I AM LOSING MY MIND I HATE ALL THESE PPL — 6:30pm: so stephen has an idol zach might have an idol let’s pray my messy ass isn’t getting votes for being a messy ass and maybe everything will be ok — 6:47pm: something feels weird. idk what. fuck survivor!
Tumblr media
SO I JUST SAW THE MOVIE US. Oh and I will recap on that crazy joint tribal in a second but now I'm at CHILI'S. And I feel a merge in this Chili's tonight.
Tumblr media
youtube
Tumblr media
Oh my GOD. Oh my G O D!!!!!!! We WON????? HOW????? I’m actually dead cuz we’ve been strategizing literally since yesterday about what we would do in a joint tribal situation. Like I was looking at the results just PRAYING Takagi lost and Anna Jane announced they did and I just felt a huge sigh of relief. But then she announced who was safe????? And it was Attila?? I??????? WOW. I’m just really happy. I mean it sucks I guess cuz now it’s one less round to meet new people and maybe it’ll put me at a disadvantage for the merge that may be coming but like???? My head not being on the chopping block is pretty. Um. YEAH! I’m hoping that they vote out Luke tbh... but I guess we’ll seeeeeeee. For now I’ll enjoy being safe!!!
Stephen W is voted out in a 5-3 vote. He becomes the first member of our jury.

The sky is a beautiful blue today~ (Some updates, nicer things, random snippets of memories and why I write about weather so much lol)
I was thinking maybe I should write about something lighter, like the things I did recently, in particular the good things, my small triumphs and such c:
I’ve spent a lot more time out with my sister (and sometimes her bf and my mum) recently, especially in the case of going shopping~! I bought quite a lot of nice tops with interesting and motivating text based designs on them (maybe I’ll photograph them sometime), and some of them were on sale too yay! :3 Usually I try and avoid going out too many times in a row or when I don’t feel mentally prepared beforehand but I went and it was alright! Though some of the times I had no choice as I had a doctors appointment, but instead of just going home I went to the shops or the supermarket afterwards and had a nice long browse around~
I used to remember a long long time ago when I was younger I really did not enjoy shopping and would always constantly be asking when we could go home lol but now it’s pretty fun (apart from the fact I’m actually really poor). Also a long time ago I would trail around after my sis or whoever, but now I go off on my own and look at whatever I feel but sometimes my sis trails after me instead lol and likes to moan about me looking at things too slowly quite a lot. It makes me anxious but I told her about it so she does it less or I’ll tell her to go look at something else, cause I like taking my sweet time yo >3< I don’t mean like I only started doing this recently haha, but it did take quite a few years before I felt confident enough to go around on my own and actually enjoy it. I would go shopping completely on my own and take public transport after college and uni sometimes and such, I feel I’ve kind of taken a step back since then but I’m not back at square one at least I guess, it’s something!
I still feel awkward and anxious when people are blocking the way of an aisle or when they’re looking at the same rack of stuff, but I’m gonna try and push these feelings aside, be more assertive and so and so. There were also times where certain unusual situations were kind of traumatic for me and maybe I’ll write or draw about them sometime, but they’re not important and I shouldn’t keep thinking back on them and feeling hurt. I still sometimes get that ‘lost kid that has to look down every aisle and worries everyone already paid and left’ feeling after wandering around when I go to the supermarket with my parents lol, because they are all about being quick so they can go home and get ready for work and stuff, but having a phone now unlike when I was a kid and didn’t have one makes everything suck much less hah take that!
Anyways, back to the present! The weather has been pretty flip floppy lately, on some few random days the weather was real hot and some super rainy and cold and some calm and neutral, like today. I really love when it spontaneously rains so hard and immediately after the sky is such a wonderful clear blue, I feel it’s analogous to when you have are suddenly overcome with negative emotions and once they pass you feel at ease and can think with clarity again aka. the calm after the storm. I really like the weather and making weird metaphors about it as you could probably tell already lolol. The weather is just something that’s always there, something that affects mood but is also so moody itself, something everyone experiences and uses for small talk and something so mundane but also wonderful and unpredictable (unless you look at the forecast everyday, I mean it’s real easy to check on the phone widget but I don’t haha, as much as I talk about it I don’t worship the weather channel or anything lol) ^^
Oh also in relation to this, when I said I was going to write this blog a bit more like a diary, it made me think of a time when I was little and my mum bought me a diary book. It was a simple Winnie the Pooh diary with a gold lock and guess what I wrote in it hahahaha I wrote in huge writing on each page a 3-4 word sentence of how the weather was that day LOL It was super wasteful and my sis and mum were like what even?! XD I’ve had lots of diaries since then and lots of attempts at writing about actual things but I’ve never been able to keep it up past a few days. I just hope this blog doesn’t die out like my past diaries or become a brief weather description collection either hahaha. Today’s post title is kinda like a tribute or slightly more advanced version of my kiddie diary x3
Okay enough about that lol! One of the days recently I went to the park~! I did say I wanted to go and my sister suggested it. It was some time in the afternoon on a weekday so it wasn’t to busy. It was pleasant and refreshing to go walkies sine I hadn’t gone there for a while, even though I really really hate all kinds of bugs (and things that have bugs in them, like trees) and shriek and flail at their presence lol. I saw some pretty flowers, sat on the see saw with my sis briefly (which I was nervous about cuz there were kids around and well I’m not a kid anymore *sob* but I will always be a kid at heart and so will my sis, so I did it anyways! Yolo, gotta sit my but on all the things next time XD). I also saw the duckies! Or well I think they were actually geese but they were so pretty and derpy and their little floofy babies omg! ;w; Soooo cute!! I definitely want to go see them again sometime :D I’ve come to kind of dislike zoos (and aquariums too) because I feel so bad seeing some of them so distressed looking and it feels unfair that they have to live in such a contained and artificial space without choice, but when there’s wildlife living free like the duckies in the lake, it’s just such a pleasant thing to witness.
Oh also some good today was I cooked my own breakfast...kinda... It was just a fried egg with tuna in it pretty much and there was rice too (made in a rice cooker not by me lol) but I cooked the egg part! It takes so much convincing for me to be able to do just this. My mum and dad don’t like me hanging around the kitchen because ‘you’re too slow’ and ‘you’ll make a mess’ etc. I know they keep babying me and want things to go smoothly their way... but it needs to change! I don’t want to be dependant forever :c I was persistent this time and I’m glad! :D And I also suggested that maybe everyday I could maybe learn something new from them, whether it be just some small technique or a recipe or whatever. I am lacking in well... life skills because I was never taught or allowed to do certain things, like cooking for example. I can make something easy like instant ramen or pasta, but they usually handle all meals and don’t let me experiment or cook for reals. The only thing they really trust me with is making tea and sandwiches and the only time I cooked something from a recipe was cooking class at school a long time ago lol. Sometimes I help my sister bake stuff, but they get annoyed at her too for being in the way and stuff, but she isn’t a weak spirited person like me so she just carries on haha.
I can watch video tutorials all I want but it’ll never be useful without actual execution and practice, you know! >< My dad is a chef and is particularly prideful of his cooking, and also quick to insult and get annoyed for small mistakes, so it’s gonna be tough but I’m gonna try anyways! Lately I’ve been trying harder to just chat and bond with my dad more, we watch drama/animation series together at supper which is nice~! (Even though he feigns reluctance to watch and that he’s interested sometimes lol). Conversation is particularly hard because of the language barrier, but if I make the conversation about learning language like I did the other day and maybe now even about learning cooking stuff, then maybe things will go at a much better pace :D
I also drew some things I was kind of happy about lately, and didn’t give up on trying to interact online even though I really wanted to! I need to get my stuff organised and start posting stuff! I feel like the longer I leave it, the less it’s making me wanna do it, stop it perfection, you’re unnecessary! x^x I really hate having an empty account, it makes me feel like a creep (like on youtube it’s okay but on other places it’s unusual, right?) ;^; Something I keep forgetting is that there is no rules and no obligations for me (or anyone else) to do anything or feel anything. There’s no right or wrong, silly self! I need to stop worrying so much and just go for it! Yolo the hell out of everything (maybe that’s not quite the right phrase lol) and just stop falling into the paralysis by analysis trap! X3 Imma try harder! ò^ó
Uh uhhh before I end this, I have some update-y stuff on my therapy situation... I have my first appointment tomorrow! I’m so nervous!! xAx The funny thing though (or well, not really), is that when my doctor was giving me options on who to see, I could either go for the general therapist who works in the same facility or to go for the referral service for a more specific recommendation. I opted for the second in hope that I could see someone with a specialism in idk... AVPD or personality disorders (if there is a such thing), but it seems I’ve ended up going full circle and ending up getting recommended to the general therapist back here >< I mean, at least it’s convenient and better than nothing I suppose... Anyways, I don’t know how it’ll go so I shouldn’t make any assumptions or have any wild expectations. I can do this! It’ll be okay! I’m glad I got a female therapist, because I get even more nervous around guys and the one I had in the past was ahhh idk... maybe I’ll write about it with whatever I write about after the app tomorrow. I just hope it goes well!
Don’t give up! You can do it! Have a nice day~! :3

Alright, so today was good, not exhausting probably because I got to sleep in which was like 🙌🏻 even though I was extra lazy and took a Lyft to Ulta to get my hair cut so I could get another 45 minutes of sleep 😂 at least I didn't blow off anything actually important, and I was SOOOO overdue for a haircut, like omg. So I got to catch up with my stylist who I love and we always trade crazy stories, so I was telling her about all the mayhem that is juvenile court and all the fun we've been having there (that's a pretty loose definitely of fun, of course). But I finished up there around 3 and walked a few blocks down to the blue line and took it back to school. I dumped my stuff in the PAD office because I always have way too much stuff with me, then went searching for where I was supposed to turn in my appellate briefs because I didn't want to be responsible for holding them anymore like here just take them haha I literally was keeping them in a plastic ziploc bag in an attempt to keep them undamaged. So I was happy when I accomplished that. Back to the PAD office, and had barely a few minutes to copy case briefs for this week's crim pro reading into my notes (because lol who does the reading anymore what am I a 1L? And that was the only class I was actually reading for to start with 😂) and then had to meet my spring break friend because they were doing the pro bono service awards for the students that hit the most hours. As of now I'm at 148 and I still have some more to log from this year, but the highest award is just for 3L's who've broken 200 so I'll definitely get that next year haha but I got the 100 hour one for this year. I hung out with my friend and the two guys from the public interest law board that we're friends with. The ceremony was nice enough, the lady like forgot to call my name which I thought was more amusing than anything else haha because I really did not care but she was like "omg I'm so sorry!!!" and freaking out and I was like haha it's fine really. So we hung out there for a little bit longer before heading back to school (it was in the building next door that's still owned by our university but isn't the "college of law" building), and I copied the rest of the case briefs before heading to class. It was fairly interesting, all 6th amendment right to confront your accuser stuff and there was one case that was substantially similar to a case we cited in the motion I wrote at work about a child abuse victim testifying via closed circuit TV and everyone was talking about protecting the defendants rights to a face to face confrontation of their accuser and I was just like ".....so you guys know in juvenile court we do this stuff literally all the time right?" Lol like I know juvenile court is technically civil court but it quasi-criminal enough that you get a public defender. So that at least was somewhat interesting. Our prof just like, gave us a random 20 minute break and said it was so we could do our professor evaluation but it looked like she really just needed a minute haha it seemed her thoughts were getting a bit jumbled there. But then we finished up pretty quickly and she let us out like 45 minutes early (I just think she doesn't like classes being that long) so I got home a bit earlier than I would've. Nothing new recorded, so I watched crazy ex-girlfriend which is of course reaching whole knew levels of craziness and I do love the show, but I also want to be done with it because there's so much I want to watch right now, lol. I want to catch up on APB which I haven't started at all but have a bunch of recorded episodes of, and I need to see 24: Legacy at least as long to when my bby Tony shows up, and then there's the pressing Netflix shows I really want to drop everything and watch because everyone is talking about them. I know Iron Fist was getting pretty mixed reviews, at least in the comic-media world I frequent, but I'd very much like to see it. And then of course everyone's been going nuts over 13 Reasons Why, which I find interesting because what's gotta be like 8 or 9 years ago now (I was 16 I think) my friend lent me that book to read (I was highly suicidal at the time and I guess she thought maybe it would help? Idk) and I remember reading it, and then starting the lovely bones right after that. It's interesting to see the different feedback to it, and I know there's been some pushback from the mental health advocacy community based on some aspects of the story so I just really want to watch it for myself so I can share my thoughts on it (post-finals, probably). I think I always may have more thoughts on the bullying angle now because of my experiences on tour with that subject. So I'd like to do that. But yeah, that ended my day but I think I had a few more things I wanted to talk about. One would be classes for next semester. The school, for whatever reason, significantly cut down on how many classes they were offering which is a major wtf for all of us, but I'm basically just worried I'm not taking enough bar-tested courses (only certain areas of the law are tested on the bar exam) and more like the ones I'm interesting in, which are great, but may not help on the bar. Tbh though it's not like I'm very worried about not passing the bar. I've always been an excellent test taker, and I know if I prep correctly and give myself enough time to grasp the concepts of the tested classes I didn't take (like how I taught myself all of property in two weeks) I'll be just fine. But as it stands right now, I have adoption law, poverty law (both of which would be very good additions for my line of work), business organizations (which is obviously bleh but it's a must for the bar) and then a legal drafting class we have to take. They have different topic ones you can take, and I didn't really want to do the family law one because I knew it really just meant divorce and I don't really want to do that, so I picked civil litigation on the hopes that maybe I will end up in the outside the govt civil sector fighting for child rights, like I'd really really like to be doing....but we'll see. I'm also seeing the timing work out pretty well, right now I have adoption law and poverty law on Monday and Wednesday nights (one on each night, I just can't remember which night is which), then bus orgs on Tuesday and Thursday from 1-2:40 (my only meets twice a week class, bleh), and then legal drafting on Thursday right after from 3-4:30, that way I figure I can still get home to enjoy a Thursday night. I'm trying to make it so I do have bit more breathing room and I'm not coming home late every single night of the week. This plan would presumably have me at work then class on Monday, one afternoon class on Tuesday, one night class on Wednesday, two afternoon classes on Thursday (and somewhere between those last 3 days slip in my DVLC shift) and work on Friday, which sounds pretty good to me, so hopefully that will work out well. The other thing I wanted to talk about is once again my fucking back, because it was killing me again today and now I'm wondering if I shouldn't go to the grappling class I'm signed up for at the kickboxing gym tomorrow night, but like at the same time it's super easy to talk myself out of these things if I'm not like super strict about it so I don't want it to just be like an excuse, but I also don't want to aggravate it.....idk, I haven't made up my mind yet. We'll see how I'm feeling in the morning and how the day goes. Okay, that's about all I got. Goodnight darlings. Sleep well.
