Tristan Was Who I Liked For Rory.

I don’t think a lot of people know this, but Tristan wasn’t supposed to up and leave to go to military school as he did in the episode ‘Run Away, Little Boy’ (Episode 9, Season 2). Instead, Tristan was going to graduate alongside the rest of the Chilton student body but make his way over to Yale, where-- I assume-- he didn’t think Rory would be attending. She made Harvard her entire life, and everyone around her assumed she would only be going there. So it was a twist to everyone-- including the audience-- that she chose Yale instead.

Tristan was written to be who we know as her last boyfriend before the (sudden) finale-- and her affair partner later on-- Logan Huntzberger. For a long time, I despised Logan because I was in love with the idea of Rory and Tristan. A young UM in middle school dreaming of the enemies to lovers trope to happen with Rory and Tristan, but never got it because he was written off the show. I saw a connection that no one around me saw. I saw a playground attraction on Tristan’s side, how he would tease and “pull her ponytail” purely because he didn’t know how to express his feelings. Unfortunately, on Rory’s end, it was more of a complicated thing.

She was with Dean, and her world revolved around him and his floppy hair, but around the last episodes we would ever have with Tristan, you can tell she was intrigued by the idea of Tristan purely because of the kiss they shared at Madeline’s party. I see this as a turning point in her dating life, to be honest, as all she ever knew till then was Dean. The moment she felt something other than what she felt with Dean, Rory was overwhelmed and couldn’t hide the fact that she now felt something for Tristan.

It was also awkward to talk to someone you kissed, cried and ran away from, so yeah, you go, girl.

After rewatching Gilmore Girls lately, I paid closer attention to the relationship Rory and Logan had and realized how much I loved it. Of course, there were many things I loved about their relationship. Still, I loved most their excellent communication: being straightforward about their feelings for each other from the beginning. Even during their relationship, they were okay with being honest when they found others attractive. Comparing that with her past flames, Dean and Jess, she was always scared of talking to Dean about how she was feeling, and we all already know how Jess would react to news like that-- poorly, the scoundrel (lol).

But looking closer at their relationship, I realized how much of Tristan I saw in Logan. The appearance of both is uncanny, both being blonde-pretty-rich-- the holy trinity in this show. But their character traits were so similar that it made me mad how long it took for me to realize that Logan was just Tristan in a different font. The egotistical manners of both, the typical arrogance of those with money, the “player” lifestyle, and the high wealth status involving him in a secret society. Carbon copy, much?

I stand by what I say: I think Rory and Tristan would have been perfect for each other given more time. Had he not left Gilmore Girls to lead in his show Dawson’s Creek, we would’ve seen Tristan as more than a high school boy unable to express his feelings towards the new girl. We would’ve seen Tristan being the boyfriend we see Logan as. Honestly, I would have made middle school UM very happy.

im rewatching gilmore girls and my god is tristan the worst. the show would be much better without him. let me explain.

the entire time tristan was in the show, all he did was bother rory who told him time and time again to leave her alone. he did not take no for an answer, got into a fight with her boyfriend (dean) because he was jealous, continually called her by a wrong name despite repeated demands by her to not do so. i dont hold this against the show because gilmore girls was filmed in the early 2000's and i really dont expect much awareness about these things from shows filmed that long ago. but what really irks me is that many modern fans-- im talking 16+ year olds of today -- seem to LOVE tristan? theyre obssessed with him, they blame rory for not dating him (even though she literally was not interested; even if she was, towards the end, it doesnt matter because tristan's level of obssession was stalkerish, not romantic at all). this love for tristan makes me really scared for how young girls view romantic love in the first place. the person youre dating shouldnt be bothering you constantly, ignoring your repeated requests and demands to leave them alone, mess with the people you love.

i know all of this can boil down to "it's just a show it's not that deep" but i think otherwise, i think the way relationships/crushes are portrayed in media influences how we think about them irl. so in conclusion: tr*stan sucks and should go to hell

becoming a better student ₊˚⊹♡

Prepare for your classes ˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆

Wake up on time. We don't want to be stressed first thing in the morning, right?

Eat breakfast. So you will be able to better focus in class.

Assigned reading and homework. Make sure you are prepared for your classes!! :)

Review your notes. Going through some of your flashcards before class is really helpful.

Check your bag and charge your devices. Ensure you have everything you need: Books, homework, chargers, pens, water...

In Class ˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆

Listen and pay attention. You can save yourself a lot of trouble by simply paying attention, trust me.

Take notes. My favourite note-taking method is the Cornell method; I can make a separate post on that!! <3

"Quick notes." If you struggle with note-taking, try taking quick and messy notes. You can clean them up once you get home!!

Engage. If you have any questions or don't understand something, make sure to ask!! Most teachers really appreciate students who speak up. :)

No distractions. Turn off your phone, no chatting, you'll be glad...

After class ˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆

Finish your assignments as soon as you can. Go home, put on a cosy outfit, have a snack, and get working!! <3

Prepare flash cards. A great way of reviewing your notes, too... :)

Update your Study schedule. Write down any assignment and due dates, reading you must do, upcoming tests, etc...

Clean up your notes. Review them, highlight the important parts, and maybe even make them look cute!! :)

Don't avoid topics/Subjects you dislike. I know it is tempting, but you can't avoid them forever, so you might as well get them done

Structure and routine ˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆

Goals and Priorities. Keep them realistic and manageable.

Time management. Having a set schedule makes studying less overwhelming; it takes some discipline but is so worth it!! <3

Develop a routine. Figure out what works best for you; I prefer studying in the morning or at night.

No "zero days". Even if you can only do a bit, do it!! NO. ZERO. DAYS.

Remember your goals. Dreams will keep you motivated; remind yourself of what you're working for!! <3

Self-care and balance ˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆

Don't forget about your hobbies. You need to do things that make you happy, so make time for those things!!

Maintain a balanced diet. I know chocolates and junk are tempting, especially when you are busy studying all day, but you're not doing yourself any favours.

Sleep. Sleep. Sleep. 8 Hours. Non-negotiable.

Exercise regularly. Even if it's just a walk, put on some headphones, listen to music, and give yourself a break. <3

Care for your social life. Reach out to your friends, make plans, and keep in touch; a good work-life balance is critical!!

Romanticising ˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆

Study dates. Meet up with your friends at a cosy cafe, discuss your work, and have some fun!! Studying doesn't have to be all serious all the time ;)

Silly Pinterest boards. Visualising your goals will help you find motivation!!

Music to set the mood. I have a bunch of playlists on my Spotify that might help!! <3

Cosy sweater and candles. The cosy Rory Gilmore vibes haha...

Getting a coffee before class. A little treat before things get serious... Simple pleasures, you know? :)
