Brand new thanos pop. Jim Starlin conceived Thanos during a college psychology course and introduced him as a villain in The Invincible Iron Man #55 (February 1973). Starlin originally designed the character as skinny and lanky, but editor Roy Thomas suggested he "beef him up". It's been a month I can be salty.

Explanation under cut

He dropped the ball on Gamora and the whole Group of Guardians. This is the first time that it feels less like an ensemble movie and more like "The Space Adventures of Rocket and Quill"

There could have been more elaboration on Peter and Mantis leaving, Nebula staying on Knowhere during the story instead of at the end. Drax's touches of being a Dad to the kids was actually really well done.

Groot didn't really have a character. Not even when his Dad Rocket was dying, he didn't feel like he was active in the story or given time to react at all.

Peter Quill's Arc was halfway decent so he wasn't mentioned. I have doubts that he'll return, but worse things have happened in this franchise. (i mean this as a joke.)

James has gone on record to say "you can just hop in" to Vol 3...but. That's putting new fans over the old ones. That's not fair or satisfying to the people that love these characters and have been following them for these 9 years.

List of Gamoras:

Guardian Gamora who was killed by her abuser in IW to "humanize" him. And then not followed up on. No funeral, no mentions aside from Quill having some very human grief but still unhealthy and Nebula taking a moment.

Gamora from the T'challa Star-Lord What if was just...not mentioned. At all. Only Nebula and Thanos were seen.

Gamora from the What if where she Kills Thanos and takes his armor. She has a Funko Pop...but she's in season 2 in limbo and we don't know anything about her. Also a Gamora that died against Upgraded!Ultron...

Ravager / Feral Gamora, who hitched a ride with the Ravagers in a deleted scene and got her bonding with them off screen. Pulled into a tough situation with her other self, constantly compared. It was a bad spot but Gunn handled it where she kept her choices and understood the Starmora relationship enough to keep in touch with Quill.

James just gave a really good swing at his fursona (i mean this affectionately) 's backstory and writing the end of a chapter of their lives. Adventures can still happen, the Guardian's aren't gone, but...they'll never be the same again.

We're never going to see them at their "peak" between Vol 2 and Infinity War and that's a shame. They were more family than the Avengers ever were. Despite being aliens, they were more human than many other characters in the MCU.

The Shield Holders

These four Funko Pops have one thing in common, the Captain America Shield! The Captain America movie are some of my favorites and I'm so exited to have these!

Captain America in Endgame

Captain America is one of my favorite characters, and I wanted a Funko Pop of him. Out of all the Funkos of him, this was my favorite! This is Captain America from Endgame. Him wielding Mjölnir and his broken shield, Captain America is surrounded by lighting as he goes up against Thanos.

The New Captain America

After watching Falon and the Winter Solider, I really wanted a Funko of him in his new suit! Out of all of them, this was my favorite! I absolutely love the new suit! I'm obsessed! I may have screamed when I saw the suit for the first time!

I am still trying to figure out what the yellow things on the shield are, so if anyone knows, please tell me!

The Winter Soldier

This was the first Funko Pop I ever wanted. When Year of the Shield came out, this was the second one to be released, and I wanted it so bad! Sadly by the time I asked my mom if I could buy it (I was using her Amazon account at the time), it sold out. I was extremely disappointed. On my 19th birthday, my parents surprised me with this! She found it on eBay a few months after it was released!

I love the scene from Captain America: Winter Soldier where the Winter Soldier takes Cap's shield, and the fact they made this into a Funko Pop makes me so happy! Definitely my favorite Funko Pop!

Captain Carter

I couldn't leave Captain Carter out of this, especially because I absolutely loved that What If...? episode! There was a Captain Carter and the Hydrastopper Funko Pop that was really expensive, and I wasn't a fan of it. I found this one that I liked more, and it was cheeper, so a win-win!

The main themes in gotg weren't congruent with what IW decided to do and that's where it all really falls apart. It's not about IW or Endgame or vol 3; It's trying to have a diverse universe come together while only prioritizing one part of it(the Avengers part) when it came to the guardians. They were the only ones who had so much about their own story run over for the sake of IW and Endgame. Gotg has prioritized abuse and trauma victims surviving to find light on the other side of darkness. Vol 3 is the most specific about this of all 3 films. Having Gamora die at the hands of her abuser in a way that benefited him was the wrong move. Having her come back and deciding to go in a direction away from what was lost made it worse. What Gunn was going for with Gamora would have worked under different circumstances, but under the context of what the franchise was about it just singled her out as the one who had to lose while the others were propped up as mostly winning. There are even near deaths in vol 3 that end up working out for the characters. Then you have the absence of genuine attention to her death and how vol 3 didn't build a ton of story for Gamora's "new life". It felt more like Gamora had chosen to leave her family and this was her new self they had to deal with as opposed to Gamora having her life taken from her and then being thrown into a situation she wasn't prepared for when she came to the future.

Vol 3 having a ton of merchandise that Gamora isn't part of is just another layer of it feeling like she's not being supported and represented when she needs it most. It also calls to question where she belongs which should never have been a question at all. Thanos took her life but he never should be allowed to take her status as a guardian or hero away from her. Giving her a funko pop and saying she's family with the guardians too is honestly the bare minimum they could do and they're still messing it up.

yeahhh i totally agree with you anon. the gotg franchise felt rly cohesive up until they crossed over with the avengers which was a shame, especially cuz i think the avengers could've learned a thing or two or many from the gotg abt how to actually function as a team and be normal lmaooo

it's crazy how even the merch for vol 3 reflects this very specific in-universe character issue that i don't think even most of the general public audience/"locals" are rly picking up on or thinking much abt like damn

My latest project, when I...probably should have been working on other things whoops: a custom Funko figure of a cyberpunk Loki. violincat3000 on Instagram was doing a DTIYS for the fanart shown above, and I thought, okay, I don't actually know how to draw, but I do still have the vast majority of that bin of Star Wars action figures I got free from a professor 10+ years ago that I've been dipping into for custom fodder ever since, so I'm almost positive I could make a custom figure of some kind instead. and then as usual I kept putting it off because I do that and also I thought it would be pretty easy, and I did it all at the absolute last minute, and it took way longer than I expected, as most things do. (I mean, part of that is probably because I ended up watching literally all of The Essex Serpent while finishing it, so I kept getting distracted, but also I’m very bad about underestimating the time it takes to do things. Which is why this took most of two days instead of a few hours and also why I was up until 3 am the night I finished. OOPS.) The head (Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park, minus glasses) and body (Officer K from Blade Runner 2049) were leftovers from earlier customs, with some repainting. The little green flame was repainted fire from a leftover Liz Sherman body. Most of the bits making up Loki’s headset/implants were from a big bag of random Star Wars stuff, also with some repainting, because I wanted something to suggest Loki’s horns. I made the big green visor from scratch out of a soda bottle, a wide gold twist tie, and the innards of a busted keyboard. (It’s terrible. This is why I never throw things away: every so often, I find a great use for them and then my magpie tendencies just get reinforced.) And then I cut down and repainted one of several spare scepters from cheap 3.75-inch Loki figures I got specifically for customizing purposes—I usually don’t like that the scepter is so closely associated with Loki because it’s something Thanos gave him and it was as much a leash as a weapon, but repainted like this I’m just gonna say it’s a totally normal setting-appropriate short sword of some kind that just happens to resemble the scepter. It's kind of hard to tell because it mostly looks reflective rather than gold, but I stuck some gold foil on the bottom of his coat, leftovers from a lunar module kit I made when I was like 10. (I don't have the model anymore, but I did save some of the leftover bits for exactly this kind of purpose, and this isn't the first time I've used some of them. Like I said, magpie. Or packrat, or hoarder.) The props around him are also from the Star Wars stash. now I just gotta…hope the super glue holds 😅
