How I feel about this character: Like him, but tbh no real deep or passionate feelings. I haven't poked his brain enough to get interested. I will say I started liking him more in the A-Kira one-shot, and not only cause his long hair was awesome, but cause I wanted to know more about WHY he was like that, what he felt all those years later about the Kira Case, how his life had gone as the new 'L'.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Mello in a childhood rival-turned-enemy-turned-lover way; Light a very messed-up 'mutual substitutes' way; and Minoru Tanaka cause I think they should have at least met and picked each others' brains!

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Also Mello actually, sometimes I just want them to understand each other and come to like...not a moment of peace, so much as a moment of actually talking about what their childhood at Wammys did to them and their relationship as a consequence of it.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Anime Near really was boring and I had no interest in watching him. Manga Near is more interesting, but they still needed to make him more goofy. (I saw two alternate panel translations of 'Serious Near' vs 'Goofy Near' and I loved the second one.)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Near meeting Minoru Tanaka!!! What a freaking loss of opportunity. Also, I'm a fan of the "Near wrote Mikami's Name" theory and I'd like that confirmed or denied in canon.

My OTP: I don't have one, I don't know him well enough tbh, even the ones I do ship, it's kinda with ambivalent feelings.

A headcanon fact: He didn't grow his hair out cause he's too lazy to cut it or too depressed to bother, he just genuinely likes the way it looks and feels.

When I started shipping it if I did: In December 2022 when I started writing for them! Altho tbh I'm not sure if I so much as shipped them, or if I just really liked the challenge of writing about them getting and being together.

My thoughts: Love them when they're just eternally messed with and messing with each other. I like them both individually as characters so having them together is really fun.

What makes me happy about them: Their symmetry. They just GET each other. And I love picking at their brains and poking them with a stick, and putting them in Situations together. I think their reactions are really fun.

What makes me sad about them: That in canon they were (or maybe mostly just Light, cause we never got to pick L's brain about it) too dumb to see what they'd be bored as hell without the other. That they never got the chance to actually be honest with each other before it was too late. (Altho in the anime L did try.)

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: For L, my pet peeve is the idea that his whole personality was an 'act.' I've never heard a good argument for why he'd bother. From a character standpoint, this would mean we never knew anything about him, which makes me sad. As for Light, when someone gives him too many "good" or too many "bad" traits, for whatever reason. It no longer feels like Light at some point.

Things I look for in fanfic: Mind Games :3

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: I don't think they're capable of it lol, sometimes I don't even think they're capable of ending up with each other. But for the sake of it, I wanted to see more of Light and Kiyomi. and as for L, Matsuda could take care of him.

My happily ever after for them: Mind Games, but forever! :D

Who is the big spoon/little spoon: Light is usually the little spoon cause L clings like an octopus, and Light needs to breathe so he faces the other way. L becomes the little spoon if Light wakes up in the middle of the night and L's asleep but not clinging to him.

What is their favorite non-sexual activity: Dang, I can't say Mind Games again. Or arguing. Or discussing a book cause it would be to one-up each other. So I think--sharing a meal. Just the two of them quietly enjoying their food together, and even giving little bits off their plates that they think (hope) the other might enjoy. A small sign that they want the other to live, and be happy.

Why I don’t: That hat that can't decide weather it's a sweatband or a beany. Seriously what is that thing on your head man

Favorite episode (scene if movie): Haven't watched any of his anime scenes tbh, kind of scared to after how dirty they did Leon. So I'll just use this section to show some love to the bit in Pokespe where he tries to take on Eternatus... himself. Not using a Pokemon. 

Favorite season/movie: See above 

Favorite line: ...I'm just gonna put "Especially you, Piers! The way you battled me in the Champion Cup... You really had my Dynamax Pokémon up against the wall!" and apologize profusely. Yes for ship reasons but also the fact that the guy starts hitting on a new rival in the middle of a Dynamax Pokemon rampage just feels weirdly on-brand? 

Favorite outfit: Shout out to that slightly douchey waistcoat ensemble with the Flygon shades from Masters...which he has a matching stupid, stupid hat for. 

OTP: Raihan/Leon/Piers and Raihan/Piers both qualify. Leon just straight up hits the "you don't even have to Ship It, some characters having had sex is just objective truth" threshold and they're often really sweet together, I just have to throw an alt boy in there too to get into it because my brain craves them like a body craves air. And Piers...they get tragically few scenes together but the ones they do get are so weirdly charged? Like someone else said there's a certain "should we be watching this?" energy to them lol 

Brotp: Leon also goes here, mostly because coming up for platonic explanations for the sheer depth of Raihan's brain rot in regards to that man leads to some FASCINATING relationship dynamics. I'm a big believer that romantic vs platonic indicates a relationship type rather than inherently implying a hierarchy of importance and these two are a great outlet for mentally rotating those themes. Also he and Gordie are fun in Masters, I like to think that they became friends while having shared sadboy time in the locker room. 

Head Canon: Probably my biggest is that with the way there's some pretty depressing shit left unsaid about the way he views himself, the occasional signs of anger issues he shows, and how he's the only member of The Rivalcule you don't meet the family of, the guy did NOT have a good childhood. On a lighter note, the guy has absolutely dogshit music taste. Like we're talking Skrillex and below here. The fact Piers doesn't strangle him over it is testament to the depth of his affection. 

Unpopular opinion: Don't really have one? 

A wish: Gigantamax Archaludon whenever the Galar remakes come out in 10-15 years, he deserves to just summon a wholeass suspension bridge (that notably has a weather-related signature move at that). And, well, just more of him in general.

it's just. gosh. for as much as i talk abt bravern being unhinged the fact of the matter is that it is actually SO restrained. ESPECIALLY for something in a medium that is already a little self-indulgent and referential. like for all of bravern himself's clear love for mecha there have been so few explicit references to other shows? and then this ep had so fucking many - ttgl (which - fucking hilarious to use it against a character KONISHI is voicing and then have that DD be fucking useless except for wanting to see some cool fights LSKDJFH) and flcl and symmetrical docking and rider kick and jeeg and gundam and the fuckin uhhhhhhhh exkaiser i think but i dont remember for sure its the same one that showed up in the earlier fight w superbia too. like w the other mecha on the roof framing. and probably about thirty more that i'm for sure missing or not recognizing or forgetting ON TOP OF all the obari posing and punching which have been sneaking into the visuals before this - but it was all for the purpose of having us watch this hype battle and get all excited to make the ending hit THAT much harder. and holding off the first gattai until episode NINE???? the thing we're all expecting to happen at any fucking moment, because there was no way that the souls of isami and bravern could've combined and actually resonated for a true gattai until that point????? like it's ALL in service of the story rather than wow cool robot even tho it IS a pretty damn cool robot. this show makes me feel like i did my homework and i'm acing the test AND I HAVENT EVEN WATCHED THAT MUCH MECHA TBH. ok 2 people expressed interest in the (maybe) bro//grandpa superhero AU so i'm going to ramble about it. tbh it's not even my favorite of the other ideas i've messed around with it's just the one that came to mind first as an example of my 'less quality' silly self indulgent WIPs. by which i mean it's overly tropey and not all that 'deep' by my standards so i'm not sure i want to actually spend time developing it. but it's both interesting and funny enough to me for me to humour the idea!

so this is - it's dumb. it started as a gag bc i watched the first episode of that buddy daddies anime with a friend and got bored and tried to see how fast i could write a dirkjake drabble with a similar premise and it somehow turned into a whole thing about the homoerotic rivalry between a superhero who's past his prime (jake) and a supervillain who's maybe on the path to redeption or maybe going even further off the rails (dirk) finding out their children are best friends and go to the same daycare. initially i was playing the whole thing for comedy because the first chapter is them brawling in a daycare parking lot, but if i wanted to i could take it in the direction of something more serious - mainly exploring the fact that these people are pretty terrible parents. how serious i want to get with the exploration of those flaws is the dividing factor on whether or not this is just a pretty far out dirkjake au where they just happen to be parents or its my first actual foray into brograndpa. so yeah. there's a shit ton of lore which ranges from stupid to kind of interesting by my standards, idk, it's a premise i can do a lot with and have fun with.

this is all hypothetical tbh. i'm not sure if i would feel comfortable actually polishing and publishing it because i am slightly uneasy with the subject matter (both with the pairing and with the superhero genre as a whole, which i like but i don't LOVE and i dont want to make any grand sweeping statements about) and it overall doesn't really meet my own standards for an au (because i'm pretentious and i don't like to let myself have fun) - look, i overthink things a lot, but i have my reservations abt putting something like this out there for something as trivial as 'fun'

Rtte? EASILY snotlout. They finally got him out of grey and put him in a greenish colour(?) instead. It compliments Hookfang's red too!! Its simple, Its in character, its got a boob window - what more could you want? his chunky ass belt is sooo fun too

Httyd2? they all had really good designs this time around but id probably say snotlout again?? thst Bear capeithing is just. so fucking cool. I love the choice to keep him itty bitty and hes handsome 😭 Hiccups close second though his weird watch thing on his arm is cool as shit and also his BRAIDS

The Hidden World designs... tbh im not fond of any of them. They removed everyones more specific details (e.g. freckles) even though the animation got a quality boost?!? and like, everyones colours are now just the same as their dragon which is kind of... boring? idk but either way I guess Astrid's my pick this time even though they changed her face shape :( but letting her hair down reflects her character arc so ill let it slide.

If we're talking dragons, tbh I love Hookfang sm. I love the spin on the classic DRAGON look yes i know hes a wyvern but thats not a term in httyd so shh. I dont know how they managed to make him cute AND menacing, but that goes for Toothless too! Stormfly being based on birds is rlly cool too, and the fact they chose to have drsgons all different colours but Meatlug is brown is such an interesting choice and?!?!?!?@? AHHHHH

3. What’s a female character you look up to?

kind of embarrassing but elle woods lmfao. i dont talk too much about myself outside of liking video games but generally speaking i really likes presenting pretty girlish and feminine, and where i live it gets me a lot of grief and people looking down on me. so seeing someone like her who is sooo unabashedly pink and pretty and going to fucking harvard law changed something in me. because i absolutely did have a ‘not like other girls’ phase as a kid but characters like her helped me out of that. realistically as an adult i can see its different for me than her, given shes a rich white woman whos also not real, but still! shes very dear to me. when i was thinking of other characters to put here my other thought was maribelle fire emblem so can you guess i have a type?

6. A female character who got done dirty by the narrative?

celica fire emblem in echoes specifically. i didnt play gaiden because i dont hate myself but i dont know the differences in plot. but in echoes its just like. i love conrad but why is he here? so he can take the spotlight away from celica and solve her problems when she was just fine without him in then original! and then alm has to come save her, and then guess who gets the cool final hit animation at the end of their dual narrative? not her! its like. man. what the hell. i like celica and everything, shes a great character, but intsys does not respect her enough. i will tho. give her to ME.

7. A female character the narrative wound up being much better to than you’d thought it would be?

ivy fire emblem. honestly, like a lot of people, i had a really sour first impression of engage just based on the trailers, and also like a lot of people, i thought ivy was just gonna be camilla 2.0 seductress on a wyvern they’d use strictly for fanservice and cast any interesting traits away. happy to say i was wrong! i loved her character arc with her turning against her father, watching him die, and then fleeing the country everything riding entirely on the hope that the divine dragon can still accept her offerings. and then having to face hortensia and face the fact that ivy left her behind and still get hortensia to come with you its just… ugh. ivy fire emblem. its been a while since i read engages story but her individual character story specifically was just. so fun. i love her very much.

lucina fire emblem. same issues as with severa tbh in the sense that in my happy little tumblr bubble i see nothing but complete love an adoration for her, but if i step out and see a twitter/reddit nerd’s opinion on her i lose my mind. “shes boring shes just a forced love interest for male robin her story is poorly written shes shallow” im gonna kill you. god forbid a young woman go through struggles the likes of which none of us will ever know and finds it hard to tell a joke. fucking christ.

well, my favorite 5D's arc is--

i do genuinely think Ark Cradle is one of the best arcs in any yugioh, emotionally, narratively, symbolically and otherwise. I'd even say eps 137-151 are, imho, one of the absolute best series of episodes and duels in the entire franchise (and also my favorite stretch of episodes ive seen yet.) Z-one is certainly to me one of if not The best yugioh Big Bad and i will fight to the death over that.

I went into 5D's last arc not thinking i was gonna like it much (i tend to get stressed out by apocalyptic doomsday scenarios) and then every single duel went hard as hell. And then it turned out they were hiding some of yugioh's most interesting characters and character dynamics back there. And then Fucking Everything With Bruno. It rocks. It absolutely rocks. It makes me fucking insane. Ark Cradle made me a different person. slash POS.

and tbh that's part of why i always get annoyed when people write off 5D's s2 on the whole or encourage people to just not watch it--there is some REALLY good stuff back there!! and it's unfortunate that you DO have to wade through some agonizingly frustrating duels to get there. but i promise it is worth it!!!! My babygirl Aporia is BACK THERE and he is SO ETERNALLY UNDERRATED BY WESTERN FANS and you WILL see him and you WILL feel something. MY FINAL MESSAGE.

Anyway, 🔥 For my least favorite arc:

YES i am WRGP's strongest soldier YES it's also my least favorite arc overall and i will fully relent to it having Many Issues YES these two views can coexist in one animal. Anyway I guess my most unpopular WRGP take is, like i talked about in a previous ask, it still does have merit to the story warts and all. In fact I don't even think the main issue is the fact the duels are long, i think a 4-5 episode duel can whip like hell (yugi vs. yami marik battle city finals immediately springs to mind), there just needs to be things that HAPPEN. IN EACH EPISODE OF THE DUEL. And unfortunately WRGP's duels kind of struggle with this more than once. The biggest This Duel Kind of Sucks Sorry offender, the Team Unicorn Duel, that's just 5 fucking episodes of watching a mill deck try to pull one over on the guy whose deck is full of graveyard effects, and it's just not very fun to watch. And then it doesn't even really feel like it effects the world and narrative at large when all is said and done. where the fuck did Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste go for literally the rest of the series. 😐

but i guess "Team Unicorn are not very interesting characters or duelists" isnt a particularly hot unpopular take for this arc. hm. I'm not a very big fan of Team Ragnarok either, I guess. they have really fun character designs but they just dont do anything for me. ho hum.

She is everything beautiful in this world. One of the most enjoyable main characters to watch. Kind, passionate, open-minded, strong and fun. I want her to be the happiest person in the world because she deserves the best of everything. I wish I could see more of her, I could never get bored of watching this girl.

9. Paris Geller (Gilmore Girls)

Apart from the fact that she invented being a girlboss, this woman right here is THE main character. She's never been wrong in her entire life. I relate to her an unhealthy amount, seeing this girl get all hyped up about high school debates make me so happy because I was her. I am her. I love her.

8. Mitsuba Sousuke (Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun)

"Lemme make the most mentally fucked up character in my series all cute and pink so that my editor lets me keep his emo ass in the series." —the author at some point, probably. THIS BOY. ugh. 5. Leorio Paladiknight (Hunter x Hunter)

If you've only seen HxH once, you might have missed it but this man. This man is the best person in that whole series. The best in any aspect you can think of, actually. He's the strongest, the kindest, the most important and the most realistically written character of HxH but he looks so lame among all those weirdos that it's hard to notice. I can talk about him for hours. I can write ten different essays about him. He's not just there for comedic relief, he's not just there as the dumb one in the friend group added to the story just to make others look better. He's important. He's the heart that connects people. He's the one that keeps his friends grounded (the friends being a group of major losers consisting of an ex-assassin with severe childhood trauma, a clueless fucking kid with a habit of cutting his own hands off once in every three months, and an angry, chain-licking 20yo virgin himbo.) Leorio is amazing and we should say it more. He's strong. He's pretty. He's canonically got the the most calming heartbeat in the world. He's. He.... Oreo man.

Emma, Norman and Ray (The Promised Neverland)

They're a package deal. I couldn’t separate them in the list, but I couldn’t pick who I like more than the other either, so the three of them get to share my top 1 spot. They live in my most comfortable pocket, the one that's the closest to my heart. I love all of them individually, their own distinct personalities that makes them so unique and admirable in their own way, but their bond means so much more to me. I love all of their personalities but I love how well they all fit together more. I love how they complete each other. I love that they're a mess when they're not together, I love that they don't know how to live without each other, I love that their love and trust were stronger than all the things they've been through. This manga is my favorite thing among all the things I've read in my life and it is mostly thanks to them, the best main cast ever. They're irreplaceable to me. I know TPN isn't the best series out there, but it speaks to me in a whole another level. These three are everything I would love to see in a cast and more. They've never bored me in the slightest even after reading the manga three times over. The fullscore trio. My children. My everything. I miss them everyday <3

Oh, I think you have a point. It isn’t like I don’t have a ton of other things to do.

TBH, I don’t have a lot of zip today. I go some VERY bad news about my mother, which meant I also couldn’t even talk to her. That knocked me for a loop. Then I found a limb had fallen and crushed our blueberry bush, then I reinjured my bad eye on a blueberry branch trying to clear that up so the whole world is out of focus again, I found out that something had settled under the ramp to the house so part of it is floating in the air until I wedge something under it….And so on. You don’t need the full list of whining.

In a way it’s a typical day for me, but dang I feel exhausted.

The lawn will do, and isn’t like any amount of mowing would make the yard meet my neighbors aesthetic standards anyway. Or the house, the vehicles, my personal appearance, for that matter. Between the run down nature of my life and my out of step with the community tastes**, there isn’t any point in stressing too much.

Don’t worry, you didn’t come across as nagging. It’s kinda nice to have someone care.

**Seriously, my neighbors want to cut down ALL the trees! And since this isn’t a desert but a place that would grown into a woods if left alone, there is no reasonable advantage to except if you share their paranoid fear of trees falling and loathing of leaves. At this rate I’m going to have the only yard that doesn’t look like astroturf!

Let me point out there are a LOT of reasons I like trees. The trees make the house cooler in our crazy hot summers and warmer in the winter. They protect me from sunburn when I’m in the yard. They protect plants from drying out in the droughts we have been having. Trees mean animals to watch, nuts to eat (pecans grow wild), something to tie ropes to if you need something solid when rigging up a line working on the roof (actual thing I’ve had to do), they are fun to climb…and the are just plain pretty to look at.

I know we get hurricanes and other storms that can and do uproot trees, and limbs fall. But honestly? Most of the time they don’t hit anyone or anything important. And if you look at the type and placement of lots of the ones they want to cut down, they could NEVER damage their house anyway!

There are a LOT more things in this world to worry about that don’t seem to bother them at all. Easier to fret about trees that the fact they drive while Googling on their phone or chain smoking or deep frying their Thanksgiving turkey in the garage. Trees are just there, minding their own business, which means they are nice little external threat that can get rid of without any angst.

so i had answered this same question a while ago but obv my answer updated soooooooooo lemme give a little rundown of some of the old and something(s) new:

old list!

more ghibli movies! those movies are just so cute so doing and writing some soft fluffy things like the guys from the movies bc theyre just cute.

kakegurui! i would like to maybe do something with characters from this show but im not too sure tbh. it feels generally like a hard series to write for that stays true to the story but ill have to see if still am all that interested in writing for this show.

sword art online! i wanted to write something for the 10 year aniversay (oops) but i totally forgot about it until like 8pm on the day (oops again) but the fact that i only watched the first season is kinda a big limiter for me tbh.

new list!

blue lock! just started this show (im on episode 2 WHAHAHAHAH) and i really like it so far. lots of guys who i can totally imagine having a super supportive s/o who loves to watch them play and worries constantly for their career so maybe when i actually know what the show is about i’ll write for it

chainsaw man! except im only going to write about taking pochita for a walk. highkey lowkey not joking tbh. i “read” most of the manga and seeing the show has given me a greater appreciation for the characters but unironically pochita is still the main reason why i keep going. the little panels and moments of his dumb face is just everything.

the devil is a part timer! THIS WAS MY SHOW BACK IN THE DAY and i always though maou’s basic ass design was cute as fuck. also the girls in here are cute so that might be fun to write about. idk though, just a thought AHAH

but there’s also a lot of shows on my list that im trying to knock out. things like tokyo revengers, demon slayer, tokyo ghoul, bleach, jujutsu kaisen, mob psycho. you know... the works. okay that was a list of a bunch of popular shows that i probably will never remember to watch. but i pick up shows randomly and i decide based on how much i like the characters or the development to see if i write for a series. so dont be surprised christmas time if you see smth new from this list or something completely from left field. or if there’s a new game that i find that i love. then that might make this list too

Touhou: Imperishable Night is my favorite game, while my most favorite character is a tie between Marisa Kirisame, Reimu Hakurei and Alice Margatroid. Fun Fact that famous Bad Apple video is what got me into Touhou in the first place.

Pretty Cure: I got into the entire franchise just last year and I'm currently watching the entire seasons from start to finish (By the time I'm typing this I'm in DokiDoki Precure). The OG and Max Heart have my heart while Cure Black and Cure Blossom are my favorites. I also love the All Star movies cause I'm a big sucker for crossovers.

Sailor Moon: I watched Crystal and the Eternal Movie on Netflix, and I'm currently reading the Manga! I would get into the 90s anime since I seen so many clips on Youtube (its so funny) but considering how many Precure episodes I have to watch, I can't. (Maybe someday!) I love Hotaru Tomoe. Can't say the same thing for Mamoru Chiba (especially during the first arc of the manga/crystal UGH-)

Revolutionary Girl Utena: The intro slaps and I'm also currently in the middle of watching the series. I know all about the dark themes and enjoy the symbolism even if I dont get it at first. (I could ramble about how the show is amazing tbh)

Ib: One of my favorite games of all time, please tell me people remember this game.

Mad Father: Same vein as Ib, again please tell me people remember this game.

Lolita Fashion: I have a few skirts and blouses (still need to get a petticoat lmao). I particularly like Gothic and Classic Lolita Fashion.
