also I don't blame you! -jaw has a lot of potential as a suffix and it's a shame we only see it as Crookedstar's ableist name change [it's an even bigger shame that he even had his name changed in the first place].

For -jaw names I think sound pretty neat;

Tigerjaw / Lionjaw / Leopardjaw / Houndjaw / Snapjaw / Adderjaw / Foxjaw / Kestreljaw / Shadowjaw / Thunderjaw - these just give really cool, fierce vibes

I wanted to see how my comic style looks when i color it, so i sketched up some of the characters and did a little rough design pass (i tried something a little neater for Sleetspar, and I don't really like it lmfao). These are three of the pack leaders (and one of the second and commands) that form the Eventide Cohort, which is a large group of various wolf packs who have formed this... little kingdom of sorts, this concordance, after a devastating war. Doeshriek, Foxjaw, and Deerrush are all survivors of the war, with Doeshriek being the only one who is beginning to show her age -- the other two were quite young when the war started. Deerrush is the only surviving child of Hawkstorm, one of two tyrant pack-leaders whose ambitions ignited the worst conflict the region had ever seen. However, her pack is also the biggest -- and the most dedicated to ensuring the war doesn't happen again. Sleetspar was born in the aftermath, so she doesn't really remember it, and so she struggles sometimes to understand the old wounds that others carry. I wanted to do the color designs on these four because they've been my main practice in my sketchbooks for making sure i have defined differences in my silhouettes, but also just... trying to push my style, making my wolf characters less standard in appearance. Plus, nobody here is a POV character, really -- they're all important, but none of them have a chapter/page from their perspective, because I ... I mean, honestly, because I feel like it would give too much away to do so. I've been working on and off on a detailed -ish document for the setting that i can refer back to. it's not like...you know, an encyclopedia, but i want to have all my ducks in a row, so to speak. Especially once wolf politics start to get pretty complicated.

Name: Wolfstep

A long furred gray tabby tom with a thick coat and short rounded ears. His eyes are a sharp blue and his whiskers are slightly curled at the end. Wolfstep’s underbelly and legs are white. With his stocky and powerful build, there was a general sense of approval and pride for him as a guard.

Wolfstep had always been ready for battle. Even as an apprentice, he pressed to be part of every scuffle and every tussle. He favored and held up battle practice over all other forms of training. There was a shortage of mentors when Wolfstep was apprenticed so he was given to Brightflower who was noted to be quite the scary warrior when she was still a Guard. Despite her reputation, for moons Wolfpaw would complain to anyone who would listen that he’d gotten a Sitter for a mentor and whined that he’d fall behind his sister in battle training. This was quickly halted when Brightflower - tired of his whining - set up an all day battle training for him and drilled him so hard she had to carry him back to camp.

Wolfpaw never complained again and sometimes even boasted that his mentor was such a fearsome warrior that she had to retire because the other clans were so scared of her that they never showed their noses at Gatherings. 

Hotheaded and easily frustrated, he was annoyed when Yellowfang earned her warrior name before both himself and his sister and was further infuriated when Cedarstar allowed Red and later Boulder to join the clan as apprentices. He was Russetpaw’s main antagonist, constantly teasing her and teaming up with his sister to force her into performing all of the least desired tasks. This also led him to have two split ears before he earned his warrior name when Russetpaw got sick of his attitude.

It took a few more lessons but by the time Wolfstep earned his full name, he’d simmered down to being a more rational and thoughtful warrior. While he was still the first to volunteer for a border patrol, he now understood and accepted that not all problems could be solved sufficiently with teeth and claws. His first real world shake up regarding battle was the death of his sister.

He grieved for moons and grew closer to both his mother and his mate, Fernshade as they worked to heal from the loss.

He was a bit wary when Brokenstar announced that kits would need to be trained early but he could also see his leader’s perspective - ShadowClan didn’t have enough apprentices and couldn’t afford to appear weak in front of the other clans. So aloud he supported Brokenstar’s decision until his own son and only kit, Badgerkit was born. 

Brokenstar apprenticed his son early and through he was anxious, Wolfstep was initially relieved that Flintfang was the one training him. From what he caught, his mate’s brother treated his son right and didn’t push him too hard. He would’ve been satisfied with this if Badgerpaw hadn’t been brought to the WindClan Massacre. For the second time, Wolfstep’s world crumpled in around him when Flintfang choking told him and Fernshade of Badgerfang’s demise.

Wolfstep hates himself - hates that he vocally approved of Brokenstar’s methods which led directly to the death of his son. Curled up with his mate, his heart in tatters, Wolfstep vowed that he would never again stray from the warrior code or the way of the Souls.

Hozier, Grammy-nominated five-piece Fontaines D.C., Elbow, Pillow Queens, and Rhiannon Giddens are among the line-up for the new season of Other Voices when it makes its return to RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player on March 4th.

The new season of Ireland's longest-running music TV show will also come from new locations, including Cardiff, and Ballina.

The series, presented by May Kay and Huw Stephens, is now in its 19th season and will run for 10 weeks, from March 4th at 11.05pm.

Hozier will kick off the season with an intimate, stripped-back, performance, featuring new string arrangements by Ireland's Crash Ensemble. Viewers can also expect performances from two Choice Music Prize nominated acts - the indie rock four-piece Pillow Queens and singer-songwriter Niamh Regan, both of whom released debut albums in 2020. 

Other Voices founder Philip King said: "The Other Voices series coming to you on television this year features a range of truly remarkable performances from Irish artists who opened their hearts and raised their voices in a powerful and emotional musical response to the events of what has been one of the most complex and difficult years in Ireland's history.

"We have been so lucky to have the support of Minister Catherine Martin which has been essential in enabling us to produce Other Voices this year and it is a privilege to work with these amazingly talented and creative artists and with the wonderful crews that make them audible and visible."

The new series will include three special episodes, with Fontaines D.C. performing in Dublin's Kilmainham Gaol, Other Voices regulars live Elbow from Ballina and Dingle, and a special highlight episode of the upcoming Other Voices Cardigan, with performances from rapper BERWYN, post-punk-poet Sinead O’Brien, violinist Aoife Ní Bhriain and more from Cardiff.

Damien Dempsey, renowned folk singer-songwriter Rhiannon Giddens, alt country musician CMAT and For Those I Love - the project of multi-instrumentalist and producer David Balfe -  will also feature in the series.

BACKSTORY

(WARNING: very long)

Harekit and her sister Robinkit were born in Fawnclan and had two loving parents, Foxjaw and Sandymist. At around two moons old, their mother, Sandymist, was killed by a rouge that broke into the nursery. They were primarily raised by their father and another queen. When she became an apprentice she was thrilled and excited to start hunting and patrolling. Her mentor told her that they should just wait a bit and just tour the clan territory and take care of elders. Harepaw, who was disappointed at that, decided to try to prove to her mentor that she could explore and be a good hunter. Late at night, Harepaw decided to sneak off to try to hunt some prey so that she could prove herself. Seeing other apprentices practicing the hunting crouch and pounce she thought she knew enough to be able to hunt. While out of camp, she didn’t realize how big the forest really was and almost got lost. While searching she found a mouse and tried to stalk it. It heard her so it ran away. She chased after it as it went under a big tree that was slightly leaning and was propped up on some rocks. When she chased it under the tree her legs hit the small rocks and before she could move out of the way, the big tree fell and crushed her tail. Cats could hear yowling for miles, Fawnclan realized that it was Harepaw yowling and immediately went to find her. They found her laying on the ground wailing and crying. Her tail was crushed under the tree and she was trapped. After a couple of hours they managed to free her but her tail was mangled and had to be amputated by her uncle who is the medicine cat. She had to spend a couple of moons in the medicine den to recover. While she was stuck her family and friends visited her often. With all that time recovering, she realized how foolish she’d been and apologized to her mentor. Her mentor seemed to understand but still decided that as punishment, she’d have to clean the elders den for a moon. After her tail recovered she was extremely clumsy and lost balance often due to her tail being short. Some of the apprentices made fun of her and called her “Clumsypaw” but it didn’t effect too much as she matured. It took her a while to be able to be in the forest because she was scared something was going to happen but she overcame her fear. After having an almost normal apprenticeship she became a warrior and her name changed to Haretail. She was a smart and honorable warrior and always followed instructions from her fellow warriors. One day while on a solo hunting patrol, she was near the river that separated Shellclan. Even though she got better at balancing, she could still have some trouble. She fell into the rushing river and almost drowned but a loner named Wolf saved her. She thanked him and they started to see each other in secret as friends and then later mates. When Haretail introduced Wolf to Fawnclan, it didn’t go over well and they didn’t accept him. At the same time there were some minor Earthquakes and everyone was terrified. While there was a big quake that split land in some places everyone ran to find solid ground. While Haretail and Wolf were running a quake happened and split the ground they were on, creating a cliff. Wolf almost fell in but Haretail held onto him and waited until others could come help. Eventually warriors came to help and accepted him. When they accepted him the earthquakes stopped and everyone realized that Starclan made the quakes until they accepted Wolf. Wolf became a warrior of Fawnclan and his name changed to Wolfcoat. After a while, the deputy suffered a sickness and died so they needed a new deputy. Splashstar made Haretail deputy for her bravery and her kindness. Birdclaw, an enemy of Haretail killed Splashstar and then everyone banished him. He vowed revenge and left. Haretail became Harestar and her deputy was her father, Foxjaw. After a year of being leader, Harestar had two kittens with Wolfcoat, named Sunkit and Ashkit. Ashkit sadly died as a newborn from a sickness. So only Sunkit remained. When Sunkit was 4 moons old, one night, Birdclaw sneaked in and took Sunkit. Harestar and Wolfcoat tried to chase after him but they were too late. Harestar and Wolfcoat decided to go on a quest to rescue her and Foxjaw remained in charge. After about 2 moons of searching they found Sunkit and Birdclaw in a cavern-like cave. They fought and killed Birdclaw and brought Sunkit home. When they got home, everyone was very happy to see them. Foxjaw, who was now close to becoming an elder, decided to step down as deputy and retire. Wolfcoat became the new deputy and Fawnclan was great.
