WIP Wednesday

It's casually WIP Wednesday and I haven't done one of these in so long, but I have been writing for two (2) consecutive days for the first time in... a long time, and even if I am writing something that will end up being only for my eyes and maybe @apathbacktoyou because she is the best and supports me always, I am so happy I don't care!

So, from the InuMirSan "Kagome is gone and doesn't come back" AU,

Her voice comes shushed but steady, “I think I might be pregnant.” Inuyasha wasn’t expecting that, but he was expecting even less the reaction it elicits out of him, a knot of bittersweet feelings that lodge in his throat and that he can barely ignore in order to speak, less alone try to understand them.  “Then why don't you want to tell him?” Her bicep squeezes his against her chest, and he always forgets how strong she is, with arms that carry her Hiraikoutsu like it weighs nothing, a body that has endured almost death, a heart that endures all her pain and Miroku’s, sometimes even his own. He always forgets how fragile she is, a tiny human with a life that can die like a light.

N, V & X? :)

wow, that was fast haha. for this fanfic writers’ ask meme, which will be open for the rest of tonight and all of tomorrow!

N: Is there a fic you wish someone else would write (or finish) for you?

i think the obvious answer here is the fsk rewrite, lol. i was desperate for series rewrites when i first got into this ship and it got to the point where i was desperate enough to try my hand haha but now... yeah. motivation is hard. i’m hoping that i’ll finish sometime in the next three years but that’s a... narrow hope.

also, my secret favorite thing is long character/relationship studies (in the style of @ink-splotch and my dimension hopping!rose fic from a few months back), so i’m always hoping for people to write those for me.

in that vein: the ones that i need very much are a character study of jenkins from the librarians (who is oh so very old and just as tired and i love him very much, god, i really do want to talk about his life and his difficulties for like... 14k), and, on an entirely different note, a study of jean-luc picard / beverly crusher / jack crusher that touches upon various moments in the series and also their fracturing when jack died and... ugh. yeah. the angst potential is there and if no one writes it by the time i finish star trek: tng, i might just have to get on that.

V: If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

uh... let’s see.

you know what? since i’ve been discussing it recently (shout out to @megabadbunny for being an excellent sounding board-slash-fellow trash for general leia organa), i really really really want all the fic for alderaanian hair traditions and specifically a million sequels to this fic by the inimitable nbv (not gonna tag her because i do NOT need her to see me being obsessed with this fic she probably doesn’t even remember writing). the concept has been haunting me for months now and, well-

to whoever’s interested, keep an eye on my writing update posts, because i may be succumbing to temptation and writing said sequel(s)... very soon.

X: A character you enjoy making suffer.

pulling out the hard ones, huh! hm. i really do love that angst, i just-

okay. the doctor from doctor who, first of all. especially the 11th doctor. and especially relating to one (1) rose tyler. (or 13! 13 being emotional about her dead wife is Very Good too!!) what can i say, i’m predictable.

also, makoto naegi from danganronpa (aka That Murder Anime that everyone should watch and then talk to me about because! i love my babies very much!). what can i say, i just like watching him suffer. (hopefully you can tell from the picture that he is an INNOCENT BOY that must be PROTECTED, which only makes it BETTER when his life partner- you know what, watch the show and get back to me on this.) (i also like making said life partner - who is definitely, 100% my wife - suffer, but that’s a whole other story, and also canon. all of their pain is canon! god, this show hurts.)

oh and surprisingly? melinda may? like i know she’s been through SO MUCH and god, do i feel for her, but also please consider: may getting a call from clint after avengers and thinking her best friend phil coulson, one of four people that’s stuck with her after bahrain, has passed from this earth. and he didn’t even get his damn captain america cards signed. the thing with may is that she’ll just take it, and take it, and take it more and more and more because she’s melinda may the paladin and she will shoulder any burden for her cause. (sorry. i have strong feelings about this. 70% of my philinda feels are just... this.)

so much of my creations have come from fics, i’d honestly be hard-pressed to think about things that weren’t fics I did, welp...so here’s five of my favorite fics I’ve written this year, in no particular order :) 

1. you’re a carnival on a summer night (unrequited fitzhunter, ~1.6k, G) this was part of when I thought I could write a musical one-shot every day of the year, and is based off of ‘hurt’ by Lady A. for some reason, the jagged edges of fitzhunter really bit into me when I wrote this. 

2. (she) means everything to me (unrequited skimmons, ~1.6k, G) more unrequited? say it ain’t so, LMAO. again part of the time I thought I could write a musical one-shot every day of the year, and is based off of ‘she’ by dodie. I can’t explain the skimmons, honestly, other than this one hurt so much I started writing a sequel. 

3. beautiful stranger, there you are (pipsy, 7k, T) a pipsy fake dating au in which daisy writes a craiglist ad for a fake date. i love this honestly because the concept is so great and the pipsy works so well, LMAO. (cut to: serena feverishly writing to meet a deadline while kat edits with “why is there corn in a corn maze, serena”) 

4. i would ruin myself (a million little times) (philinda, ~6.6k, no ratings) it’s a philinda best friends to lovers along with andrew garner and high school drama during homecoming season. this was written deep into my folklore phase, LMAO. 

5. the crazy straw called life (philindaisy, ~2.5k, G) a tiny look into college daisy when she comes home for winter break and her heinous red bull consumption, according to her mother. (ft. a caffienated father). honestly, this one was just so fun to write, and it just flowed out like nothing.

7 for 7!

There are only seven days left until the Agents of SHIELD finale! 😭 I know we’re all feeling some sort of way about the show ending, but I wanted to remind everyone that just because the show is ending doesn’t mean the fandom has to. For the next seven days I’m going to be recommending seven fanworks from seven different authors, for a total of forty-nine fanworks to love and enjoy even after the show ends. :)

Light a Match (To Swallow Up the Flame) by (orphaned account) - Fitzsimmons, M, 49k, strip club AU. This was one of the first AOS fics I remember reading and it’s still stuck with me even two years later. The characterization is so spot-on and I read the entire fic in one sitting!

Sunset, Sunrise by marvelthismarvelthat & book_freak - Philindaisy (past Staticquake), G, 23k, post-canon. I don’t often cry at fanfic, so when the beginning author’s note of this fic said I should get some tissues, I didn’t. That was a mistake. Beautiful, poignant, tear-jerking... I cannot say enough good things about this fic but I’ll let it speak for itself.

Like A Stain by AgentSkyeMorse - Quakehuntingbird (past Tripdaisy), T, 8.6k (series - 46k), soulmate AU. When people ask me where my love of poly ships come from, I almost have to point to this fic (and the rest of the series that accompanies it). The author does such an interesting subversion of the soulmate trope and seeing Bobbi, Hunter, and Daisy’s relationship grow throughout the series gave me so much joy.

Giving Up Is Easy (But We’ll Take the Challenge) by PanicMoon15 - Philinda, G, 193k, kid!Daisy adoption AU. I love fics that explore the team as found family, and this fic where Phil and Melinda literally adopt Daisy is *chef’s kiss*. I know it’s a pretty common trope but this one is done so well with really amazingly-written background relationships and sibling feels and I’m in love.

Huntingbird, A History by Sanctuaria - Huntingbird, T, 96k, pre-canon. I feel like this fic makes it onto every rec list I ever write but it was unbelievably formative in the way I view Huntingbird’s relationship and canon as a whole. Such an amazing tale of Huntingbird before we see them reunite in canon and one of my favorite re-reads.

the zeroth law of thermodynamics by Florchis - Fitzskimmons, M, 13k, soulmate AU. I love the idea of chosen soulmates and this fic takes that idea and runs further than I ever could with it. The development of the triad between the three characters is so well done especially because - spoiler - only two of them are actually soulmates. Absolutely stunning work.

Boyfriend for Hire by (orphan account) - Huntingbird, T, 3.3k, meetcute AU. Based on that one Craigslist post of someone exchanging their servies as a terrible boyfriend for a free Thanksgiving meal, this is basically peak Huntingbird. I love their chemistry in this fic and I also firmly believe there are never enough meetcutes in the world, so we need more.

Where were you in life when you first started to watching AoS?

It was halfway through Season 4, I had moved not too long ago and was at a job I hated, so it was a fun distraction. My sister made me watch it because she was obsessed with Philinda and wanted to yell about it lol

I binged everything in maybe a week? and then got upset my sister hadn’t warned me there would be a pause and I’d have to wait for more >:0

Where are you now?

I still live in the same city but in a nicer flat and have an easier job that pays better! so, yay!

I’ve also kept at writing fic consistently thanks to AoS and tried lots of new stuff, like moodboards and manips and playlists and even a tiny bit of drawing:)

What character development arc (or storyline in general) did you love the most?

I love 5a, even if it didn’t make a ton of sense, ngl. I’m a (Ka)Sinara-stan first and a person second.

What will you miss the most?

I'm gonna miss speculating what might happen next/making fun of stuff/getting hyped with everyone, since I didn’t have enough of that, I got involved too late!

I’m also a bit apprehensive about the fandom dwindling because it’s the most involved I’ve been with fandom in... probably ever.

Favorite quote?

If my url didn’t give it away... “I know there's a path back to glory. A path back to you.“ makes me go absolutely feral!!

Share a bit of your WIP or share a story idea that you’re planning: My current set of wips are a may n hunter s3 gen fic (...it’s almost done I swear!!!), a bus kids going shopping gen fic set loosely after s6, a really emotional post s2 meldrew fic, a little retired philinda ficlet that’s been in my head a year I just need to type it ffs, and a mid s5 coulson pov fic is nudging my brain again. But here’s a snippet of three barely 30 somethings deciding to take a day trip from base to a nice mall:

They borrowed one of the plain cars and left base early. Jemma drove first. This was still way too early for Fitz and years of training with May had made Daisy better at the early mornings, but that was not the same as liking them.

“Are we sleeping or turning music on?” Simmons basically chirped.

Jemma was always sunshine-y in the mornings but Jemma on her second cup of tea with a written inventory in her jacket pocket was basically glowing.

“...both?” Fitz finally grumbled, already slumped against to door with his legs across the backseat.

Top 5 fic recs?

ooh, that’s a tough one, I read such a wide variety within and increasingly across fandoms and most of what I read are drabbles and oneshots that are very hard to keep track of... if anyone is after my fic recs I would highly recommend going into the show or ship tag, etc, and poking around. so much good stuff i will never do it justice!

that said, here are SOME of the incredible fics that have been making me feel things lately

Path to Paradise, Road to Ruin - David x Patrick (Schitt’s Creek) AU. A beautifully crafted epic poem which weaves canon in in a stunning way. Will break your heart and you’ll love it.

honey, let’s get married (series) - David x Patrick (Schitt’s Creek). A series of super soft & fluffy vignettes set during in the lead up to the wedding; I have fallen in love

love bites so deep (series) - Fitz x Hunter (Agents of Shield). Those who know me have heard me throw this into every rec list I possibly can. This is a rarepair and I am blessed to have @florchis in my corner, especially with this beautifully crafted series full of tenderness, passion, just a little bit of an air of tragedy, and so full of love

Meet Cute: A Team Engineering Group Writing Project - FitzSimmons (Agents of SHIELD), an oldie but a goodie. As I said, I don’t tend to read longfic/multichaps much, but there are a tonne of talented people in this fandom and heaps (of course not all) of them had a hand in this fluffy rom-com-esque work of creative genius and teamwork. (I actually did used to use my ‘fic rec’ tag back when I read multichaps, and a lot of those are FS, so if you’re a fan of that ship dive deep my pretties)

Regarding the Incident In Which Raymond Ran Away to Mexico - Holt x Kevin (Brooklyn 99). There is not enough fic in this world for these two imo, and this one has excellent voices and relationships while answering questions/filling a void I had always wanted. Love it.

most popular multichapter fic: *laughs in singular multichapter fic* may’s golden dragon, which I’m pretty sure is only because it’s a 3-year-old fic that keeps resurfacing every now and again for new people to hop on, LOL. may has bobbi and skye as her adopted daughters and at a chinese restaurant, where phil gets sent to review it -- chaos ensues. 

favorite story you’ve written so far: oh god how do I CHOOSE?? putting may’s golden dragon aside, because that one’s just always a fun time, I’d probably have to say either now i’m freefallin’ or twelve pumps of mocha and a double chocolate bagel (which I need to put back up, smh) because they were just so entertaining to do. both of them were in some way also based off of an experience of mine, which also made me laugh because I got to relive them, LOL! 

fic you were nervous to post: i don’t really get nervous posting things, I don’t think, because I’m just very gung-ho about it -- if it tracks, it tracks, if it doesn’t, it doesn’t -- but it was something I still wanted to read and there was at least one person who wanted to read it. I think if anything, it was probably (of recent memory) beautiful stranger, there you are because it was written as a gift for such a fantastic author! 

how do you choose your titles: like, 80% of the time, it’s song titles -- lyrics and snippets I pick from my head because I listen to so much music -- but sometimes I’ll just pluck something pithy from the air? wheel of fortune (but much better than tv) was one of the things I plucked from air, for example, but i would ruin myself (a million little times) was straight up from when I was living on folklore’s release, LOL. 

do you outline?: sometimes?  sometimes I’ll get really into writing an outline and end up putting down all of the plot points and small details to a story (which come in very handy when I have to bribe someone), or when it’s may’s and I have to plan several chapters in advance so i don’t take another year’s haitus (rip), but most of the time it’s just quotes jotted down in a notebook or me yelling over the phone to someone. I did just get a white board, though, so we’ll see how that pans out.

Hello and welcome to @aosficnet2​‘s brand new Spring Fling Exchange!

We have had a lot of fun with our MidYear Exchanges the last few years but this year we decided to go for something fun and fresh, and what better time to try something new than Spring? It’s time to celebrate life, love, and the creativity of this wonderful fandom!

Here’s how it’s going to work:
