Okay so I wanted to ask about Izzy. I know you've addressed this in some of your quite impressive metals (love btw), but I need a little clarity hoping you can shine a light on.
So how does Izzy see his relationship with Blackbeard exactly? Izzy feels "this" (that's the part I need clarity with) relationship with Blackbeard is the only type of closeness he can have. Why is that? And what is that?
Also, what are Ed's feelings towards Izzy? Codependent but to what degree of intimacy?
I need to preface this by thanking you for your patience! Just got my laptop back from the shop and I cannot for the life of me write in longform on a phone. So it has been roughly a month. ._.
I'm gonna answer your questions separately, and I also want to make a very strong statement: I've seen some readings that Edward doesn't know who he is, which I don't see the text/show supporting.
Here's why: Edward Teach has a commanding identity and presence that he just turns parts of up to 11 for his own purposes. I think there are a number of practical reasons for this.
I'll build this argument in pieces. Let's start with very basic readings of Edward Teach as a character and Izzy Hands as a character. Then we'll read them and their relationship together (from Izzy's perspective first, then from Edward's).
Who Is Edward Teach?
What I believe is that while Edward is extremely intelligent and competent, he doesn't connect that competence to 'full self-actualization.' This is why we get that comment from him about being bored! He's bored with his extraordinary brilliance and competence. Feeding only that side of himself isn't meeting his emotional needs anymore. He thinks he needs something new or interesting in his life, and Izzy doesn't understand why Edward isn't happy with the status quo (riches and pirate success).
We learn about Edward's background most often in scenes with Stede. Edward chooses to reveal this background and history to Stede ... VERY PERSONAL history! This will become important later, because for me what someone chooses to reveal to you about themselves is part of defining your relationship to that person.
Edward chooses over and over to be vulnerable in a particular, personal, and intimate way with Stede. They discuss personhood, identity, and the very day Stede meets Ed after being stabbed? He doesn't know he's Blackbeard, he thinks 'he works for Blackbeard,' and he calls him a good man. Stede has been conscious in his presence for all of five minutes.
IMHO Edward Teach (if he wasn't already in love at that point), was instantly charmed by that response and it just got even more and more interesting to him from there. This is one of the reasons Episode 04: Discomfort in a Married State is one of my favorites! If not my absolute favorite. You can read this instant connection as either platonic or romantic love at first sight. And I for one really enjoyed it.
Stede and Ed's relationship is foreshadowed and defined VERY CLEARLY and very early in the show. And really if you need the guide to how everyone relates to everyone? It's Episode 04. You can watch that (and re-watch it) and it will tell you almost everything you need to know about Edward, Stede, and Izzy.
It's a really neat piece of work (check out the writing credits).
Who Is Izzy Hands?
I'm personally fascinated that, in contrast to Edward choosing to reveal his background to Stede as being vulnerable and to foster intimacy and understanding, we the audience don't get to know anything about Izzy Hands except for what he:
a). projects/says he believes
b). Fang reveals to undermine Izzy and
c). what his actions/orders reveal.
Izzy Hands discloses nothing about himself to anyone! He's the opposite of vulnerable and emotionally available.
Izzy's conversations with Edward are limited to work, their plans, and what Edward and Izzy are and aren't contributing to making the plan work, and giving ultimatums to people (except for one instance...)
The only personal conversation that I think we ever see Izzy have, where he's being vulnerable is AGAIN in Ep 04: Discomfort in a Married State. Recall the moment where Izzy prepares a dinghy to leave The Revenge after the Lighthouse scene?
EDWARD: Izzy?
IZZY: I said some things I regret last night. I don't think you're the shell of a man ... or a twat.
EDWARD: You were right man, about all of it. Have you ever heard of "retirement?"
IZZY: Mm. That's not much of an option in this line of work. The only retirement we get is ... death.
EDWARD: What if Blackbeard turned up dead? His corpse disfigured beyond recognition, of course.
IZZY: But still be identifiable as Blackbeard.
EDWARD: Well, he's wearing Blackbeard's clothes, he's on Blackbeard's ship.
IZZY: What happens to you?
EDWARD: I'm not even here. My name's Stede Bonnet. I'm a wealthy landowner. Of course, the crew would need a new captain. Someone who really knows the ropes.
IZZY: You mean me. I suppose it could be me, yeah.
EDWARD: I need you here.
IZZY: Edward? [pause] You still got it.
EDWARD: [turns, smiling] I know. [turns away, exhales]
**THE EMPTY BOAT PLAYS.**
I go feral for this scene, this conversation, and this song every time!
Everything you fundamentally need to know about Izzy Hands and Edward and Blackbeard is illustrated in this episode because it's the longest private conversation they have in the entire show and it's also the ONLY time Izzy is intentionally vulnerable in any way with anyone.
In the transcript of the scene, you can see Izzy apologizing and regretting what he says! He doesn't do this for anyone but Edward. And then Edward? Edward allows that Izzy is right about what he said. Edward probably at this point believes that Izzy is right, too, so he moves into the next phase of what he and Izzy always do: they come up with the plan and they execute the plan.
Notice that Izzy is a little nonchalant about suggesting or "supposing" that he could be the captain? In response to Edward implying the possibility as a way for him to retire without having to die? They both see this outcome as win-win right now.
Izzy Hands & Edward Teach
That all changes post-duel in Episode 06: The Art of Fuckery. Edward 'allows' Izzy to banish himself from The Revenge. The threatened departure in Episode 04 becomes a reality by Episode 06 and BOTH TIMES Izzy is the one making the choice.
Keep in mind that the duel happens directly after Edward chose to reveal both his personal background AND the plot to kill Stede! Izzy thinks the plan is still on and he doesn't listen when Edward tries to change the terms of the agreement.
IZZY: Stede Bonnet, draw your weapon.
EDWARD: No, Izzy, we're not doing this.
IZZY: No, you're not doing this ... so I must.
Izzy is the one who is going along with the plan as usual even after Edward has decided he wants to change the plan.
I'm just gonna leave that here because I think it sums up the relationship. Edward and Izzy come up with the plan and execute the plan.
Izzy's a bit of a hardass who can't see the frankfurters in the clouds (he's not as talented as a sailor) and who validates and executes Edward's plans (but only when he understands them ... and they make sense to him).
It's conditional, it's transactional, and Edward and Izzy support and validate each other in an emotionally limited and predictable way that's based in succeeding at piracy.
Izzy only lets himself be vulnerable after he's questioned Edward's competence as a sailor, which is in many ways the foundation of their relationship! Izzy is proud to serve the most brilliant sailor he's ever met. He validates that aspect of Edward's self and personhood without understanding or approaching the other emotional aspects of what it means to be a captain ... because Blackbeard is the one who handles the responsibility and the stress of whether or not the plan is going to work. Izzy's job is to be First Mate hands who always executes whatever plan Edward has devised (because he believes in Edward's plans).
Izzy Hands & Blackbeard
Again I'm relying on Episode 04 to make this point.
You can see the difference between Blackbeard and Edward most clearly in the clothes swap. Edward wants to let Stede 'be' Blackbeard by putting him in the outfit. Stede is game for this because the man loves wearing different clothes.
Izzy is First Mate Hands and he follows Blackbeard's orders. So what does he do?
Recall how that scene with Edward wearing Stede's clothes goes:
EDWARD (wearing Stede's clothes): Did you see that? This is amazing.
IZZY: A word, Cap'n?
EDWARD: You can be a real bummer sometimes. You know that?
IZZY: When you tasked me with trackin' that absolute idiot, I did that, no questions asked. And when we traced him to a Spanish warship, I attacked that ship, losin' several of our men, by the way.
EDWARD: Mm. Kinda' the job, they're pirates.
IZZY: For years, I've followed your every whim, I've managed your increasingly erratic moods, I've massaged this crew when they were worried about your judgment.
EDWARD: Mm, sounds stressful, Izzy.
IZZY: It is, but I did all that because I was honored to work for the legendary Blackbeard, the most brilliant sailor I had ever met. But now, you're just ... an insane, unpleasant shell of a man who's merely posing as Blackbeard.
EDWARD: (Pointing to Stede) That's Blackbeard.
My favorite part of this next scene is where Izzy is like: Okay, fine, if that's how you want to play this ... and then he just treats Stede exactly like he would Blackbeard! Down to asking about the state of the munitions and ordering Fang and Ivan to load the cannons and execute anyone who won't fight.
Izzy plays along with the game because Edward is insisting and Izzy wants to prove a point. Except, wait, Edward is still the brilliant sailor (the clothes have nothing to do with that), and he still had a plan the whole time! He just didn't (this time) explain it to Izzy.
Edward is proving to Izzy that Izzy can't fully predict him, and that he always has a plan even when he hasn't discussed it with Izzy.
Izzy took for granted that Edward would fully disclose his plans and discuss his options. Edward even HINTS to Izzy exactly what the plan is and Izzy still misses it even when he should have seen (fuckin' frankfurters).
Blackbeard & Izzy Hands
It's Izzy who suggest that Edward is 'an unpleasant shell of a man posing as Blackbeard.'
It's Edward who has to remind Izzy that he's still Blackbeard even when he's not explaining himself to Izzy or meeting Izzy's expectations.
Edward regularly fights Izzy about who Blackbeard is and who Blackbeard is allowed to be in the context of the show. The clearest example of this is when Izzy confronts Edward with the stereotypical picture of Blackbeard from the book (NO, THIS IS BLACKBEARD), and ends up ... with The Kraken, instead.
Edward's interpretation of that stereotypically violent image is The Kraken, not Blackbeard.
Izzy chooses not to validate Edward's changes in the plan. Izzy chooses to duel Stede when Edward tells him to stop. Izzy chooses to collaborate with Nigel Badminton to rid himself of Stede, whom he blames for 'doing something to my boss's brain.'
Edward Teach & Izzy Hands
Which brings us to the conclusion. What is 'this' relationship between Edward and Izzy? It's what they choose.
Edward speaks informally to Izzy and doesn't order him around. Edward discusses his plans with Izzy and values his opinion. Edward looks to Izzy to validate and execute his plans (though he doesn't rely on that as much as Izzy believes -- Edward makes a point of proving this to him!). Edward is very much the brains of the operation.
Izzy speaks informally to Edward and formally (Blackbeard, Captain) when he's operating as First Mate Hands. He reinforces Edward's authority as Blackbeard and insists that everyone (who isn't him) respects Blackbeard by modeling that behavior, himself. Izzy is a competent duelist (and less competent sailor) who absolutely has killed people (I'm assuming this is true, even though we don't see him do this on screen).
Edward chooses not to disclose personal background information to Izzy or talk about whether or not he is a good person with him.
Do you recall that Edward's confrontation with Izzy happens immediately after the scene where Stede monologues about the consequences of witnessing death and being the cause of it in the bar? And how it changes you forever? Because I didn't. BUT IT DOES and now I'm never going to be over it!
Izzy chooses to tell Edward that he should have let the English kill him. Izzy chooses to tell Edward that whatever it is he's become is a fate worse than death.
Edward chooses to tell Izzy that he is, in fact, still Blackbeard.
Izzy is the one who chooses to deny that Edward is Blackbeard. It's Izzy who chooses to make the distinction that Edward didn't. Izzy who invalidates Edward's expressed identity (not some namby-pamby in a silk gown pining for his boyfriend). Really, this is an attempt to undermine Edward through attacking his attachment to Stede, specifically (while Edward is wearing Stede's robe, no less! practicing the emotional openness that he's developed on The Revenge, and in Stede's room, next to the Lighthouse painting!).
Izzy is the one who chooses to deny that Edward is Blackbeard.
Edward is the one who chooses to process that grief in absolutely the worst way possible and goes straight to The Kraken, without any of Blackbeard's tempering calculation and planning the outcome. One wonders if Edward, who last killed as The Kraken, is going right back to not outsourcing the big job anymore.
Izzy is the one who chooses to see that 'Blackbeard is himself again' when he's just got someone and something much darker. Edward sobbing alone in the darkness, looking at the Lighthouse image, and externalizing his emotional trauma while also bottling it up?
NOT GONNA LIE I'M ANXIOUS FOR EVERYONE.
Anyway, I don't have all the answers for all of what this relationship between Edward and Izzy actually is. I'm in the "it's complicated and very unhealthy" camp because of how it turns out and how we see Edward undermined in healthy coping and dealing with grief.
Everything Izzy chooses in this case is pretty unforgivable, especially in deciding that he's only going to support the particular kind of Blackbeard he wants Edward to be (for his own reasons).
Izzy makes it very clear he doesn't accept who Edward is choosing to be (Blackbeard in a silk gown, grieving his first real love).
Edward chooses The Kraken. Izzy chooses The Kraken (for now). They're both going to deal with the consequences of their choices and I'm a little anxious for them, because this is like two semi-trailers playing chicken with each other. I really don't see either of them backing down from their collision course.
In Closing
I'm overwhelmed with admiration for the level of character agency implied by these relationships. Both Edward and Izzy choose their actions, their responses, and then deal with their respective consequences.
At some point I may write the full essay on how character agency and choice is a primary theme in the show, but for now I'll just stick with this figurative excerpt looking at Izzy and Edward's relationship to each other and their choices in how they relate to one another and how they define their own relationship on-screen (when in doubt, re-read the actual transcripts and watch the performances).
If Izzy had done as Edward asked and not dueled Stede, there's a chance they would have been able to work things out without Izzy choosing to go become a collaborator with the English. If Izzy had accepted that Edward has an inner emotional life he's not privy to (and isn't owed an explanation about, and could just ACCEPT that without denying it!), and trusted in Edward's judgment and his vision for himself, Edward might have chosen something different than the Kraken.
We'll never know. UNLESS THEY HURRY UP AND RENEW THIS SHOW ALREADY. AHHHHHHHH.
(... also Izzy is disturbingly okay with and supportive of Edward as The Kraken not gonna lie.)
Oh David Jenkins we're really in it now. x_x

If you still do the ask meme: nr.1 for a timetravel Jangosoka?
26 Family Prompts Ask Meme
Accidental Baby Acquisition
This contains both intentional and accidental acquisition. (They'll give it back! Probably.)
------------------
"He's mine."
Jango looks at the woman he has, somehow, managed to fall for.
He looks at the baby.
He looks at her again.
"You adopted? Without asking me?"
"No, birthed him myself."
That baby is human. Fully human. There is no chance, in any way, that Ahsoka managed to have a fully human child. There's some shit about placentas or whatever. A tog can't surrogate a human and vice versa.
"Jetii--"
"Oh, I'm in trouble," she giggles, entirely too enthused about his annoyance.
"Jetii," he tries again, "please tell me you didn't steal a child."
"I did not steal a child," she confirms. "I just... acquired one."
"Acquired one."
"Yeah."
He waits in vain. He breaks and asks, "Ahsoka, how did you acquire this child?"
She smiles at him.
--
The child's name is Ferus Olin. He was not stolen, but given willingly by his parents for Ahsoka to take to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.
"You could have just said so," Jango gripes as he fires up the engines. She laughs at him, and hikes the tot higher on her hip. "Don't act like it's not within the realm of possibility that you'd randomly pick up a kid and forget to warn me about it."
"Sure," she says, "but consider this: it was funny."
"You are not nearly as funny as you think you are."
Ahsoka rolls her eyes and addresses the kid instead. "What do you think, Ferus? Am I funny?"
The toddler--baby, really--stares up at her silently. There is something up with that kid, but Jango figures that's par for the course with Force Sensitives.
A slightly wet, very chubby hand lands on a lekku.
"That is saliva," Jango notes aloud, mostly because Ahsoka looks a little disgusted, and likes she's trying to hide it from the kid. "Baby drool."
"Oh, fu--shove off."
"Classy."
--
So like. Here's the thing. About carting around two almost-Jedi:
One of them is his age, and hot, and weird, and he's a little bit in love with her.
The other one is less than a year old, and should be relatively safe and sound to leave alone for five minutes while napping so they can do things like use the bathroom, or argue over the nav, or knock against the walls doing things that babies probably shouldn't know about.
Ahsoka says that Ferus was a rule-abiding guy in the future, uptight, even.
This means nothing, because the ship jolts out of hyperspace without warning while Jango's got his hand up a hot tog's skirt, and they both have to rush to the cockpit to find the literal baby has crawled onto the pilot's seat and somehow turned off the nav.
The baby continues patting, full-palm, at the controls.
"What the fuck?" Jango demands.
"Language," Ahsoka sniffs, and then picks up the baby and swings him around. "Who's a little troublemaker? You are!"
"What the actual--"
"Language!" Ahsoka snaps, a little harsher this time. "There's a baby."
"Yes, I noticed, it just knocked us out of hyperspace."
Ahsoka rolls her eyes. "It's fine. We just need to keep a better eye on him."
"This could have been deadly."
"Eh, doubt it," she dismisses. "I mean, with a normal kid, yeah, but I bet you ten to one odds that he did this because the Force told him to."
"I cannot explain how much that doesn't fill me with confidence."
She ignores him. She settles into the chair, toddler on her lap, and closes her eyes. This lasts for several minutes, and Jango tries to keep his impatience under control so he doesn't 'project' it into the Force or whatever it is that the Jedi are worried about. It would distract Ahsoka, and possibly more importantly, it would upset the baby.
"I've got it," she finally says. "A direction. He pulled us out a bit early, but the fact that we didn't overshoot it is a bit of a shocker in and of itself."
"A direction to what?"
She shrugs. "We'll find out."
--
The direction is to a fresh-faced teenage Duros by the name of Cad Bane, who's been floating around the guild's gossip lines for a few years now. He's good, for eighteen, but Jango hasn't met him before, and Ahsoka really doesn't like him--Jedi don't hate, supposedly--and that's enough for Jango to have zero interest in really networking here.
Also, Bane has a stolen toddler. Jango knows the toddler is stolen, because she's dressed in far-too-fancy clothes for Bane to bother with, and screaming her head off, and trying to bite him, and yelling about how she wants to go home. Surprisingly eloquent for a toddler, actually. She can't be more than four.
Jango wants to get involved. He's itching for a fight. He does not get one.
He gets the smaller baby, and is told to take care of said baby and be ready to catch the bigger baby--toddler--while Ahsoka handles the fighting.
It seems kinda personal. Jango leaves her to it. It's not like they need both of them to fight this literal teenager.
(He's right. They don't.)
--
There are now two small children on Jango's ship. One of them is barely-almost a toddler, and the other is barely-almost not.
"I am Padme Naberrie of Naboo," the little girl tells him, all care and important grandeur. "Thank you for saving me. When may I return home?"
Naboo. The noble kids from there are damn creepy. Also worth a good ransom or a better bounty, to some. It's not exactly surprising that Bane went for one of them. the family must be pretty influential somehow.
"Not sure," Ahsoka says. "We were on our way to Coruscant... do you have a number we can call? Maybe one of your parents can meet us on the way."
"That is ac-cep-table," the little girl sounds out. She even bows, a touch wobbly. "Thank you, Master Jedi."
Ahsoka is not a Master, and is only sort of a Jedi. She does not correct little Padme, because that would be a little mean, in Jango's estimate. The girl's just been through something harrowing, and even he's not that much of a dick.
"Do you know their contact info?" he asks instead.
--
They aren't on a convenient hyperlane for Naboo, so they're meeting Lady Naberrie on Corellia. It's several days there, which is still faster than trying to get to Naboo from where they currently are, and Padme spends an hour or two talking to her mother before the woman enters hyperspace and comms are no longer an option. Then she talks to her father, and asks about someone called Sola, and Jango's not paying enough attention to keep track of who's who in the life of a child that is not his.
He doesn't have enough beds on the ship for this.
He empties out a small armor crate and lines it with blankets, then sets it on teh floor by the end of his bed. It's big enough for Ferus, who probably doesn't care much for fancy things. Padme gets her own bed, because they're strangers and it would be odd to suggest she share with Ahsoka as a gender thing. The other, larger bed is then for Jango and his somewhat irritating and entirely too lovely Jedi.
He laces his fingers with hers, once they're in bed, autopiloting down the hyperlane. Padm's breathing has finally evened out, and Ferus hasn't woken up yet either.
"Do you want them?" he asks.
"Hm?" Ahsoka shifts, and when she speaks, it's sleep-heavy and muddled. "Want what?"
"Kids," he says.
She's silent, long enough that he starts to wonder if she's fallen asleep, but eventually she shrugs. "I'll take an apprentice one day, probably."
It's basically the same thing, for Jedi.
"Did I ever..."
He tries not to ask too much about his personal future. He knows how Galidraan would have ended, and knows that somehow, he had been involved in a clone army that tried to kill Ahsoka when she was seventeen. She tries not to tell him too much.
"One," she says. "Boba. A few years younger than me. And..."
She doesn't finish.
"And?"
"Maybe another time," she says.
He's gotten that response more than once. He knows it for the wall it is.
"Alright," he says. "You could... tell me about Boba in the morning?"
"Maybe."
Noncommittal. He's not entirely surprised.
"Okay," he finally says. He presses a kiss to her lek. "Goodnight, Ahsoka."
"Night, Jango."

✧ Wisteria didn't look to be stopping her attack on the fox anytime soon, she continued mercilessly batting at Silas. All he could manage to do was squirm and scream. This, thankfully, caught the attention of North who quickly rushed over to separate them.
North: WH- Wisteria!! No!! Bad ghost!!
✧ It didn't matter, The tiny ghost was currently in the process of trying to commit a felony, though North didn't seem all surprised by that. She quickly grabbed the ghost dragging her away as Wisteria clawed at the air, she seemed to be determined to win the fight and put an end to the fox's reign of terror in her life.

North: You can't keep attacking him all the time Steria, that's not very nice, stop it! Hey! Hey!
✧ Wisteria desperately squirmed for freedom, but North wasn't going to let that happen. She instead turned the ghost's attention towards herself. Her voice was calm but serious.

North: You wouldn't like it if he hit you, would you? You know he doesn't like hurting people! He would never hit you! So don't hit him! Babys are fragile and soft! North: Plus! If you keep hitting him like that you're just going to make him hate you, then I'd be super sad!

*is now trying to see how to manage BOTH Fake and Arranged marriage, because I live for that Eldorado Gif*
I feel like it would definitely have to be two couples in the same fic, because they're kind of...opposite tropes. But you could have -
Wait. Wait. Okay hear me out: A and B are in an arranged marriage, but neither of them wants to go through with it, so (separately) they maneuver C and D into taking their places. (This could be extra fun with clones. Just saying.) C and D both realize pretty quickly that neither one of them is who they're pretending to be, but they also have a fair bit of spite about being dumped into this arrangement, so they decide to pretend to be the best married couple, like truly a Sappy Love Match of Epic Proportions, because they know that A and B loathe each other and being seen as That In Love with the other will make them want to d i e.
And then, of course, the game of Sappy Love Chicken turns into real sappy love and C and D are kind of maybe screwed. In the fun way, but also in the un-fun way.

rajeev and anakin LOVE. rajeev is so sweet to anakin and it's so!!!! and anakin is smitten so quickly. i love the dynamic between these two. i love rajeev being a big sap just like anakin. from their iconic bathroom piercing first interaction to rajeev storming the temple to find anakin from rajeev swearing that he'll always tell anakin the truth, that he'll stick by him even when things are difficult,,, they're just so cute together.
a'sharad and anakin childhood friends to lovers!! a classic!! i enjoy the way they interact together when they're babies. anakin yapping while asha listens intently, chiming in when he wants to. and then i love how the friendship forces anakin to face what he did to the tuskens. and how asha wants to understand anakin, takes the time to (even if the questioning annoys anakin aka boy is defensive when being faced with his own prejudice).
ferus and anakin childhood one-sided rivals to lovers!! my favourite classic!! i love their entirely different recounts of what happened when they were younger. they misunderstandings. love the way they argue. and ferus showing up to help on mustafar?? delicious. amazing. still makes my brain go absolutely crazy. ferus being angry at anakin for what he's done, but still offering him a place to work?? a place that is so directly close to him?? your brain is so massive for that one.
roan and anakin rivals (??) to lovers!! anakin's life is a cycle. love roan's gentleness (topped with teasing) with anakin. he's honest and real without being harsh. he helps anakin out of a mindset he's been in for so many years.
talon and dryden he trusts her with his life which isn't something he does lightly. and he does it so quickly,, partly bc of the situation of which they meet. he sees her for everything that she is and all the experiences she's been forced through. he hopes she sees him for all that he is, too. he admires her for how she is after enduring it all. and he knows she can handle herself, but he has made it his personal job to ensure she never has to suffer how she once did again.
han and dryden it really starts as something fun and entertaining for dryden, but dissolves into something scarily real for him. he adores han. so much so that he just accepts it when he thinks he leaves him.
tayala and bode that's his wife!! we see from the game how losing her ruined him as a person. she was his everything. we haven't done a crazy amount with them yet, but i love their first meeting. it's both hilarious and adorable.
(i didn't reread so if they don't make sense then,, pretend the do, for me.)
Who do you ship with my muse?
Bonus: Include why you like the ship!
AND HERE COMES THE REST OF THE CAST! 🎉👏 I love them. Love them, love how almost every ship on this ask goes through an "I can barely tolerate you" stage (except for Raj and Anakin and Talon and Dryden, surprisingly). Annoying bitches to bitches who are still annoying but tolerable to lovers 🙌

not cute things to remember:
Breha’s youngest sister, Deara, betrayed her and became a spy for the Empire. informed on Bail’s communications. endangered Leia. endangered the entire planet of Alderaan and their way of life by helping to orchestrate illegal weapons being planted in Aldera (which would have led to Imperial agents taking over Alderaan’s government if Bail and Ferus had not discovered this and gotten the weapons away before the staged Imperial bust).
and after confronting Deara about this?
Breha banished her from Alderaan, giving her a personal guard, and a safehouse so that she would be protected. both from the Empire trying to find her to use her again, and from anyone who would have been angry with her spying for the Empire. even after being betrayed, Breha protected Deara and made sure she would be safe. she refused to use Deara as a double agent against the Empire; she refused to put Deara in prison or publicize her betrayal.
Breha is such a kind, forgiving person. Breha loves her family so much. Breha loves her sister even after Deara breaks her heart.

For the kiss prompts, what do you think about Obikin saying “close your eyes” or kissing on a dare? 😘
I realise I forgot to say to tell me an au you wanted this for and luckly because of that I got an amazing idea
Here is a canonish obikin snippet with "close your eyes" AND kissing on a dare
“Truth or dare” Ferus asks.
“Dare” Anakin answers immediately. The last four people had chosen truth and Anakin needs a bit of excitement or he will go to bed before the countdown to the new year properly starts, and that is in ten minutes.
The whole Jedi order is gathered to welcome the new year with a bit party. There is music, drinks and food. All Masters, knights and padawans in attendance, even the younglings had joined for the first part of the evening.
The party had started early, and that is why a couple of hours in, Anakin and some other young knights had gathered to play a game of truth or dare. The dares so far had been fun. Making Master Windu drop his drink with the force, drinking a whole bottle without pause, mimicking a Master for five minutes without them noticing – though Anakin is sure they had won that one because Master Koon was too amused by their antics to call them out.
Anakin chooses dare, because it’s more fun and choosing truth is always dangerous, specially when you have something you don’t want anyone knowing like Anakin does.
The smirk on Ferus’ face makes him rethink his choice.
“I dare you to kiss Master Kenobi when the countdown strikes zero.” Ferus says.
“Okay.” Anakin answers easily. He knows his former master, he is not overly affectionate, but he doesn’t shy away from that kind of displays either. He has seen him greet Padmé and Bail with kisses on the cheek. He probably won’t think much of it, specially if Anakin does it to welcome the new year.
It’s not a specially hard dare, he doesn’t understand Ferus’ smirk.
“On the lips.” Ferus adds.
Anakin blanches.
Ha can’t know, it’s the first thing he thinks. Ferus can’t know about his feelings for his former master. There is no way he knows.
“Uuuuuh luckyyy” One of the other knights says, her voice teasing, “who hasn’t dreamed about kissing Master Kenobi?”
There are a few teasing remarks more, a few laughs. They don’t know. Anakin forces himself to laugh too.
It’s a minute before the new year when Anakin finds Obi-Wan. His Master smiles at him and hands him a glass with a drink. They both turn towards the countdown on the centre of the room. Anakin sees Ferus smirking at him from the other side of the hologram. He wants to punch him. He won’t back out of a dare.
He can feel the nerves filling him, squeezing his insides. It chokes him.
He leaves the glass on a table close to them, afraid he will drop it.
Fifty seconds.
Obi-Wan asks him if had fun with his friends, Anakin tries not to choke on his answer.
Twenty seconds.
Anakin turns towards Obi-Wan. The party lights dance on his face, he looks beautiful.
“Master” Anakin says. Obi-Wan turns towards him, and Anakin’s heart jumps in his chest from how easily he can get his master’s undivided attention. But the attention is too much for him knowing what he is about to do. Obi-Wan’s eyes are too blue, too piercing. Anakin feels like he knows what he is thinking, what is in his mind and heart, like he can see right through him. It’s too much.
Ten seconds.
“Close your eyes.” Anakin says and Obi-Wan does.
Anakin admires him as the people around them count down the seconds.
When it reaches zero, Anakin surges forward and kisses his former master right on the lips. It’s meant to be quick, celebratory, just a peck. Something he can later brush off when his Master pulls away with a horrified look on those beautiful eyes of his.
When Obi-Wan doesn’t pull away immediately Anakin lingers.
And then the impossible happens.
There is a hand on his face.
Lips move against his.

WIP Wednesday: Caught
GFFA Soulmate AU (follow-up to this post)
Anakin is two screws and a hex bolt into dismantling the saber, hardly ankle-deep, when the front door slides open.
And Obi-Wan steps in. “Padawan, have you seen my…”
Anakin grimaces in mortification as his Master trails off, clearly having found what he was looking for.
He looks calm, but a spark of fear lights in Anakin anyway. If his Master knows, if he catches wind of this insatiable need that Anakin has—
“Anakin,” Obi-Wan says carefully. His body is tense. “What exactly are you doing?”
“I’m sorry, Master!”
He’s been made. He’d tried to pry Obi-Wan open and crawl inside while his Master wasn’t looking, and now he’s been caught red-handed, still covered in his blood.
The two of them are Master and Padawan, but—
He knows that doesn’t give him permission for this kind of intimacy.
At best, Obi-Wan will see it as rude and violating.
At worst, he’ll see it as a betrayal.
“I just wanted to see,” Anakin begs. “I’m sorry, Obi-Wan. I know I should have asked.”
“Oh.” His Master’s gaze flickers to the mess on the living room floor, the electrical and mechanical parts scattered around from Anakin’s various projects, and then back to him.
Obi-Wan furrows his eyebrows, looking nonplussed.
“So this is… purely academic interest?”
Anakin seizes upon the excuse gratefully, trying to rein in the rampage of feelings inside him. “Yes, exactly! I wanted to see how it was different from mine, especially given that we’re using a lot of the same materials.”
Obi-Wan raises a hand to cover his mouth, stroking his beard, which means he’s a little rattled and needs a moment to regain his composure.
Anakin can relate.
“Tell me, Padawan. What do you feel when you touch my lightsaber?”
“What do I feel?” Anakin asks in surprise. “I guess— um.”
He scrambles for an answer he can say out loud, something other than Like I’m yours. Anything Obi-Wan would accept.
He remembers, with sudden clarity, the incident with Ferus’s lightsaber two years ago.
“I feel like I’ve eaten a good meal,” he lies. “Like I’ve eaten my fill, and I’ll never be hungry again.”
It’s only half a lie, anyway. Obi-Wan does make him feel all those things, with the way he looks after him, ensuring he always has more than enough to eat, even when they’re on missions.
It’s just not the lighstaber that does that.
Still, the answer has some kind of tension releasing from his Master’s form. Obi-Wan sags a bit, his expression settling into a small smile.
“Well,” he says lightly, shaking his head. “I suppose I can’t begrudge you that.”
Obi-Wan points a finger at him, mock-stern.
“But I expect you to ask next time, Padawan.”
Anakin, still reeling from the easy acceptance— from the explicit permission, the absolute trust— snaps to attention. “Yes Master!”

12 and 16 of the OFMD ask
Thanks for the ask! Let's see...
12: Pick one: Spanish Jackie’s wooden hand, Lucius’ whittled finger, Black Pete’s cleft lip and lisp, or Ed’s knee brace.
It's so hard to choose. I have reasons I love each. I think I'll go with Spanish Jackie's wooden hand (though the knee brace is a close second) because the show crafts her hand as such an integral part of her character.
Leslie Jones speaks in an interview about the importance of the props and costuming to her. She got to be (rather than typecast), focused on being an artist and developing her character. She got "Rick James boots, the ones that go up to the KNEE." And you know what?
The sheer JOY she expresses in these interviews is what I love about this show.
I mean LOOK at this hand:
Tumblr media
Spanish Jackie's wooden hand is a work of art. Her nails are done, it's proportional and lifelike (not a hook), it's got a leather grip and full articulation. She wears rings on each finger. She smokes a cigar with it. The prosthetic is so natural to her character.
If you haven't read the polygon interview, do!
Spanish Jackie's hand represents what is right about this character, about the show, about the approach to setting a great artist free to do her best work, about giving Leslie Jones a space to learn and develop and hone her craft beyond what even she knew.
It's also about how her prosthetic isn't something to make fun of or a joke, it's an element of art and power and intimidation and style. Her story is about her 20 husbands, and her grudge against Jim, and ruling the underworld! She's a disabled character who isn't defined by her disability and (in the gif above), has a throughline and a conversation about the hardships of revenge.
Really she has such beautiful scenes and energy and Leslie Jones MUST return in Season Two as Spanish Jackie or I will be inconsolable.
16: Favorite gag? (I'll do gag here since I have another ask with same number, where I'll do joke).
For the purposes of this question, 'gag' is visual or sight for me. The setup.
I LOVE THE CLOTHES-SWAP SCENE in Episode 04: Discomfort in a Married State.
I love everything about it. The narrative punch of this entire framing and the very idea of it are handled with such sensitivity, specificity, and precision. At some point in the future I may do more detailed writing about how Ed can mostly portray roles in the "same" clothes, and the clothes-swap scene is him experimenting with Stede's style of dressing for a part ... or dressing "beyond" the part that Edward Teach usually plays. It's just a lovely visual gesture to see Edward still acting as a brilliant captain and sailor, the man with the plan, even while living it up in silk.
He's still the captain who, after learning that his plan to get to safety won't work, advises those who can swim to run off (so they don't die), and then goes down into the captain's quarters to get drunk on Stede's liquor (presumably?). EVEN THOUGH IT'S NOT HIS SHIP. The whole framing of that shot with Edward in the fancy clothes throughout the entire back half of the episode? Lovely. Healing. He's the guy who wants to "do something weird" and has a chance to shrug off the visual mantle of Blackbeard while still being that person.
Remember how Black Pete runs downstairs and ruins the surprise?
"You're a genius, Blackbeard, I knew you'd save us!"
I think it's fascinating that it's First Mate Izzy Hands who has doubts from the beginning (and is horrified by the clothes-swap) and Black Pete who is instantly like YEAH DUDE GO FOR IT, I NEVER DOUBTED YOU.
It's such a commentary on ... just ... really every relationship that is about to unfold during the rest of the season. The way they developed this "gag" and sustained it as a character piece during the entire episode and had it frame multiple relationships and perspectives and add context WHILE being a visual argument just blows me away.
I love it more and more every time I rewatch the show. Episode 04 is the moment I fell in love with Our Flag Means Death and with Edward and Stede. For everyone who was saying "Idk it was going to be a romance or not." This is when I knew. The Lighthouse scene where Ed hugs Stede. I knew waaaaaaay in advance and I was holding my breath while they kept foreshadowing the rest of the relationship as the show released.
I stayed up until midnight to watch the finale drop ON RELEASE and I have not been the same since. And I blame the absolutely rock-solid, thematically brilliant, utter commitment to the clothes-swap bit that functions not just as a sight gag but also as character-driven commentary. I have seen vanishingly few things pulled off this well.

snipet of this obikin au based on this quote from Star Wars Jedi Quest: The Way of the Apprentice
(1.1k words)
Obi-Wan was tired from the transport, his bones aching and tired after so long away from the comfort of his rooms. It had been a tiresome mission, one standard month away from the Temple and the responsibilities he had from being responsible for a padawan.
Obi-Wan almost let out a groan at the thought of the exuberance his padawan would display the moment he crossed the door. Anakin had the uncanny ability to detect whenever Obi-Wan was back from a mission, accosting his Master as soon as he crossed the door, demanding answers to his different questions as he pouted once more at being left behind.
He suppressed the smile that he could feel growing on his lips at the countless memories he had of his padawan eagerly greeting him at their quarters, for no matter how much he pretended to complain, he was secretly delighted that Anakin still craved his presence, missed his company, despite his age. Anakin was no longer the nine year old boy that had arrived from Tatooine with a chip on his shoulder, but a padawan close to his twenties, almost ready for knighthood.
However, a distance had been growing between them for the last couple of months, with Anakin remaining distant through their interactions. Long gone was the padawan who ignored propriety and wanted to meld himself with his Master, instead replaced by a young man aloof when greeting his Master, politely listening but rarely engaging.
He hoped that, by taking the mission that would keep them apart for a month, Anakin would miss him enough to return to the caring young man he had been just six months ago. Yet, as he crossed the door of their quarters, he was unsurprised to see that they were empty, with Anakin nowhere in sight. He couldn't feel his padawan through the bond they shared, and a feeling of worry began growing inside of him.
Anakin could be as distant and emotionless as he wanted, but he had never failed to be in their quarters when Obi-Wan came back from a mission, not even when he was mad at his Master. Something had had to happen if Anakin wasn’t in there.
Forcing himself to remain calm, Obi-Wan made his way around the Temple, greeting Masters and younglings alike as he passed them by, his mind focused on finding his apprentice. Much to his delight, his padawan wasn’t at the Halls of Healing, nor was he in the Council Chambers. Finally, after an hour of searching, he felt his padawan’s presence inside The Room of a Thousand Fountains, and Obi-Wan felt as if he could finally breathe.
His padawan was safe and sound inside their home.
Slowly approaching the place where he could feel the presence of his young apprentice, Obi-Wan was delighted to see Anakin with his eyes closed, meditating softly and peacefully. His heart swelled with pride and joy at the image of Anakin finding inner peace through meditation, something they had struggled for so long.
About to approach his padawan, slightly remorseful to break such a peaceful picture, he stopped in his tracks at the sight of a young man resting his head on Anakin's lap, his eyes closed as if in deep concentration. The young man had his eyes closed - the red of his hair contrasting with the paleness of his face - as he was softly breathing at the same time as the rise and fall of Anakin's chest.
Obi-Wan was surprised to see Anakin willingly letting another padawan so close to his person, as his encounters with Ferus had proven... everything but amicable. Obi-Wan had been hoping for the day when Anakin would make a friend, so he was surprised at the hollow feeling in his chest at the sight.
Shaking himself from his own foolishness, Obi-Wan approached his padawan, regretful to break his peace.
"Anakin," he said softly, "Young one.”
But Anakin remained meditating, much to Obi-Wan’s surprise and disappointment. In the past, Anakin had loved to be interrupted mid meditation, always claiming to prefer Obi-Wan’s company to that of his own mind.
“Why would I want to spend time with myself, when I can spend it with you instead, Master?”
“Anakin, dear one. I'm back."
"Master," Anakin said after a pause, not opening his eyes from his meditation. "I'm glad to hear that."
"Would you like to go to Dex? I’ve been wanting to tell you about..."
"I'm sorry, Master," Anakin interrupted as he opened his eyes and looked at Obi-Wan with regret written in them, sounding truly apologetic as he spoke, "but Rowan and I already have plans."
"We're going to have dinner at my quarters while we watch a holovid," the youngling in Anakin's lap said, his eyes still closed, a smile on his face. "We're going to eat so much food our stomachs will hurt but no more than our hearts, because everyone knows there’s nothing like ‘Rather Me Than You’ for a good cry!"
Anakin laughed softly at the youngling's comments, making Obi-Wan's heart twist unpleasantly inside his chest. He smiled through the uncomfortable feeling inside of him, wanting to appear as if nothing was amiss with him.
"You could do that at our quarters, dear one," Obi-Wan offered calmly, eager for them to accept but not wanting to show how much he had missed Anakin in their month apart.
"I'm sorry, Master," Anakin said, a hand on the back of his neck, "but Rowan..."
"My Master just left on a mission," the youngling said, opening up his green eyes to look at Obi-Wan with a smirk on his face. "And you were a padawan once, Master Kenobi. Sometimes... we need time away from our Masters."
"Rowan!" Anakin exclaimed, his face red as a red and hot feeling began rising inside of Obi-Wan, threatening to consume him, at the implications of the padawan’s words.
But Anakin would never…
"I understand," he said through a forced smile, bowing to avoid looking at the young man's smirk. "I'll see you in our quarters when you're done with your... friend, Anakin."
"We'll go to Dex tomorrow, Master," Anakin said, his eyes looking at Obi-Wan with a feeling he couldn't understand.
"Of course," he said before turning around and leaving the room, ignoring the echoes of their laughter.
Anakin had a friend at the Temple, at long last. Someone else to spend his time with besides Obi-Wan. Now, Obi-Wan would be able to hang out with his own friends, to sleep around without having to sneak out of his room as if ashamed of who he was.
Anakin had a friend, something Obi-Wan had wanted for so long.
And yet his heart felt like he was leaving half of itself behind.
Everything was FINE.

So, @underacalicosky and @wibzenadarksiderwithasoftheart tagged me in the WIP Tag Game, AND THANK YOU FOR THAT, but I don't have any new WIPs since the last time 🤷🏻‍♀️and you all know about all of those. . . BUT I have been working on option 3 from that poll quite a lot - I have about 75k words, but I am nowhere near ready to post a first chapter. But you know what? I think part of my slump right now is that I haven't shared any of my writing in almost 6 months since I finished Streets. So, though I am nervous to do this - because knowing me, I'll probably end up changing this or scrapping it - here is a small sample of that fic I've been working on:
Ferus awakes to the smell of brewing tea, and he’s not even sure how Obi-Wan has achieved such a feat when he doesn’t even have a kitchen, but the aroma is unmistakable. He glances at the parallel palette a few feet away – Anakin is still sound asleep, and the first sun is not yet peeking into the interior of the cave.
When Ferus stirs, he sees Obi-Wan perched on the plateau in the entryway of the cavern. He sits beside him and the Jedi Master slides him a cup.
“I had another ready,” Obi-Wan comments evenly, but cheerfully. “I thought you might be up soon. . . Your Master used to talk of how you’d wake with the suns.”
Ferus’ lips curl at the mention of his former, deceased Master, Siri Tachi. “She was like Anakin, and could sleep all day if you’d let her.”
Obi-Wan smiles softly. “And he needs extra rest these days, it seems.”
“He does. He gets worn out so quickly. . . It’s strange to think it’s Anakin – always so competitive, pushing himself to the limit. Needing to be the best. To win.”
“That need for victory,” Obi-Wan somberly tsks. “I do believe that’s where I lost him.” He sighs. “His fear of losing. . . It impacted him in more ways than one, but now that he’s lost so much, I don’t think it frightens him anymore.”
“Well, he hasn’t lost you – and it’s clear you’re what matters most to him.”
“You mean a great deal to him as well,” Obi-Wan reminds intently.
Ferus marginally shifts the subject, “Obi-Wan? You don’t have to answer this, but. . . I saw the two of you last night, the way you. . . I know I only implied it before, but did the two of you have a relationship?”
“Not a romantic one, if that’s what you’re getting at.”
“That is what I’m getting at – the way you held him, and the way he was curled up against you – I can’t say it’s a position I’ve ever been in with my Master, but I’ve surely slept beside my husband in the same manner.”
“I never touched him,” Obi-Wan defends sharply. “Especially not when he was seventeen. But when he got older, when the war started. . . Well, we became less like Master and apprentice and more like. . . something else entirely. But nothing ever came of it. There was tension there, and to be honest, I think it caused problems between us. This chirpy Anakin is one I’ve not seen in a long time, and I’ve missed him terribly. I honestly don’t know what possessed us to curl up together last night, because it’s not something he’d remember us doing; it’s not something we did until he was older. We’d seek comfort during the war, but it was never really romantic so much as just comfortable – natural. . . and I suppose that’s why we ended up that way: it just felt natural. I’m sorry. I’m rambling, and I know that’s not much of an explanation, but when it comes to Anakin. . . in light of this situation. . . I’ve just never before been so confused and so sure of myself all at once.”
Ferus laughs ironically. “That’s exactly what I was trying to explain to you about taking him under my wing. It felt both wrong and right. I’m still conflicted at times. . . and I. . . I can’t stay, Obi-Wan.”
Obi-Wan’s head turns sharp. “You can’t go,” he protests.
“I can’t stay,” Ferus reiterates. “I need to get back to the base – check on things there. Try to get back home and make sure Roan’s family is safe.”
“But you don’t intend to return.”
“I. . .”
“Anakin will be crushed. Please don’t do this. Not right now. Let him get settled.”
“He doesn’t need me, Obi-Wan; he has you.”
“Do you not hear how he refers to the two of you as one unit? Do you not see the way he lights up when you enter the room? Do you not see how he hangs on your every word? ‘Well, Ferus says. . . Ferus thinks. . . Ferus wants. . .’ ”
“That’s just because we’ve spent so much time together. I’m all he’s had for the last few weeks. He’ll be fine. I know you’ll take care of him.”
“You aren’t so sure. I can sense it – your worry for him, but you’re running away because it scares you –because of what he used to be, and I’m. . . I’m scared, too, and maybe I need you just as much as he does right now. You’re the only one that— Don’t go. I want you to stay.”
Obi-Wan and Ferus go quiet when they sense Anakin awake and approaching.
“Good morning, dear one,” Obi-Wan beams when a sleepy looking Anakin appears. His eyes are tired. His face is blank. His arms are folded, buried in his Master’s robe, head covered to hide his scarred face.
Anakin’s gaze is on the horizon, where the second sun is just starting to rise, the shadows of the cave now absorbing soft morning light. Both men have turned to watch him. Now, he watches them back and smirks. He wedges himself between the pair, then puts his head on Obi-Wan’s shoulder.
Ferus is just about to stand when an arm comes around his waist and pulls him closer. A cybernetic hand snakes up his back and rubs it gently. Ferus slowly turns to look at Anakin just as he lifts his head from Obi-Wan’s shoulder, and Ferus finds he can’t look away from the intense and engaging stare.
Anakin lets his forehead tenderly bump against Ferus.’ When he feels Obi-Wan’s arm stretch around him, he boldly decides to now use Ferus as his personal pillow instead, supremely content with having contact from each side.
Obi-Wan’s knuckles brush back and forth against Ferus’ ribs, an indirect way to communicate, a way to say he understands. He knows Ferus is wrestling with the very same qualm he himself had struggled with for many years: craving Anakin’s touch, while simultaneously fighting a guilt-ridden urge to push it away. He sees Ferus’ dark eyes peer at him from over the hood of the robe Anakin is still snuggled in – tethering between satisfaction and indecision.
Ferus is rigid, neck straight and chin high. But at Obi-Wan’s faint, but soothing smile, and with Anakin burrowing further into his side, he can’t help but rest his cheek to the top of Anakin’s head, shamefully giving in to the warmth and solace they both provide.
The three remain huddled together as they watch the sky change colors in a comfortable silence.

What's your role in the tragic play? -X'mimiteh Lhim
Tumblr media
misunderstood villain
prepare for an onslaught of both the most dehumanizing and hateful takes, and flood of thirst comments. you are chronically misunderstood. whether or not you're actually evil is debatable. you may be acting out for revenge, to defend someone you love, or even just to protect yourself. you're a pretty jaded person. you don't trust or even really like most people. maybe you did at one point. but that part of you is gone, and you don't go a single day without grieving it. you think a lot about what your life could have been. you're stuck in the past. you're angry and maybe you don't even want to be, but this is the only way you can see to survive. you're open, but less in a trusting way and more like a wound. you don't like to let people see you, but the hurt spills out of you before you can stop it. you're impulsive, even as you try hard to plan and prepare. maybe someday your side of the story will finally be heard. until then, you can convince yourself that being hated is safer anyway.
I did not expect this. Though Mimi was never intended to be a hero, I would rather put her in the role of an anti-hero. She is grumpy, she can be mean and rude - but she has a good heart (she tries very much to hide). Maybe it is just the word "villain" that does not feel right here for me, because as difficult a character she can be, she is not supposed to be a straight up villain. But that is probably making her exactly that - a "misunderstood villain"? Being in a situation, where people do not understand why she acts the way she acts, why she is rude and mean and insulting and feisty. All just to cover up all the hurt and guilt she feels. She is jaded to some point, but still just feels "too much" - and that is her main problem. She cannot deal with that. And that's why she is angry. All the time. The more I think about it, the more it actually might be really spot on? I am confused!
