Let’s talk how about Chrom and Robin’s bond evolved over time

With everyone clamoring over the new emblem I wanted to take a look back how we got here with their relationship and why I think at this point Chrobin is the intended or inferred Chrom pairing when it didn’t used to be.

In 2012 we got Fire Emblem Awakening, and as Chrom was related to Marth, his inferred pairing was Sumia a pegasus knight as a nod to Caeda, Marth’s canon wife. Granted because part of Awakening’s charm is you could pair anyone up, you didn’t have to pair Chrom up with Sumia if you didn’t wish to. But to IS she was the intended choice.

She had special scenes with Chrom and was the most likely to end up paired with him if you weren’t gunning for a specific wife for him

And you see her here in the opening with Lucina

Robin is you, the avatar, they don’t even have official art, just them with a hood

They had a canon design what we all know now but it wasn’t really used. And that should have been it as far as IS was concerned. Awakening was their last hurrah. And then FE blew up.

Robin’s canon design is now getting used, both the male and female version are now in Smash Bros. Then we have Warriors and Heroes and the Awakening cast shows up more. But not Sumia. Perhaps it’s because she’s not popular or the people flocked to Cordelia instead but she is the pegusus knight everyone loves. Sumia isn’t even in Warriors or the base FEH she gets added much later to FEH only with other less popular Awakening characters.

It’s here when FE became more maintstream I believe that IS changed their tune on Sumia being the intended wife and retconed it. I fully think Sumia was dropped and they no longer had an intended pairing for him all because she just wasn’t popular. Him and Robin were close of course they always were, obviously some would see it as friendship others would see it as something more the usual nothing really changed there.

And then 2022 ten full years after Awakening’s release...this happened

Couple things here. I fully believe the reason Chrom was paired with MRobin here instead of FRobin is for two big reasons reasons.

1) If they paired him with FRobin it canonizes a pairing so MRobin is the safer option, FEH doesn’t usually pair men and women unless they’re already a pairing. So MRobin got paired with Chrom and FRobin was on her own but she still has lines about how much Chrom meant to her.

2) MRobin is the more popular Robin as has been shown every year in CYL and he’d even win next year

So Chrom and Robin were always close it was a no brainer to make them a duo unit, they picked the male version on a very family oriented banner.

That said some of these lines...well let’s just say if a man and a woman were saying that to each other there would be no doubt here. Imagine if this Robin was the female version

Robin: There's Lissa, Emmeryn, Lucina, Frederick... I think we've got gifts for everyone. Don't we? Chrom: Well, all but one. What would you like your gift to be, Robin? Robin: What? Me? You can't just come out and ask like that, you know. There are rules! Chrom: You know I don't care about that. Just tell me what you want. Robin: Truthfully...I can't think of anything. Chrom: You don't want anything? Aw, come on. Think of the bind that puts me in. Robin: You gave my life meaning when I had nothing—not even my memory. The sense of purpose I've found at your side, working for peace in the world, is all I could ever ask for. Chrom: You're not alone in that, you know. I feel the same way. That's why I wanted to give you something nice. To show you how I feel. Robin: All right, all right. In that case, why don't you give me one of those flowers you're wearing? Chrom: It's only going to wilt. Robin: I'll press it into one of my books. That way I'll never forget this Day of Devotion.

Snippet from their duo convo. Usually when someone gives flowers it’s considered a pretty romantic gesture I’ve heard plenty of people call this alt playfully the gays and yeah this is very strong.

FRobin even comments on them in one of her lines.

“That man with Chrom is a Robin from another world, right? They get along so well, I'm almost jealous...“

There was no need for that line at all, we can tell from their lines how flipping close they are but they felt the need to have another character comment on it in base lines

I do believe MRobin was used not to canonize a pairing...at first. And then they gave up because it looked like people really liked it going even further in the next year.

In Awakening Chrom and Robin refer to themselves as two halves of the same whole which is already a loaded term. But it’s never been used after and was just part of the game

Enter the next time they pair up as the Emblem of Bonds which brought that back for the first time since 2012, in full force

Correct me if I’m wrong but no one besides them have referred to each other as their other half in Awakening

Lucina does it in Engage. For reference other half means husband, wife or partner (romantic). I think after the Valentine’s alt they decided sure why not and now they’re really going in with Robin being Chrom’s other half when they only touched the term once past Awakening in a FRobin cipher card. Other half in Engage is Robin and he pops up when engaged with Chrom to mix magic with the attack. I don’t doubt you can mean a friend with this term but when paired with everything else they say to each other, it’s pretty strong evidence it’s further than friendship.

Okay now for the the ultimate Robin is now Chrom’s intended partner view, Legendary Robin also released this year

I saw some people argue exalt could mean Lucina too but no it doesn’t, it clearly means Chorm it says so and if you didn’t believe that, we got a map that was the two called Chrom and his other half. Which is Robin.

His art also references his other half status, he now wears blueish green jewelry which stands for Chrom and the brand of the exalt is on his chest plate

Finally in his damage art he once again has the symbol of the exalt formed in magic.

And a ring, some have argued it’s his clothes but usually the magic gauntlets he wears are on his middle finger and not under his gloves; pretty sure it’s a ring, it’s even on the ring finger of his left hand, where you generally put a wedding ring.

All this together is some very strong evidence, but put it with everything else they’ve done since last year and it’s clear to me, IS now is pushing Chrom and Robin as the intended pairing. Not canon like Marth and Caeda or Alm and Celica, but intended like they do with Eliwood and Ninian and some others I’m probably forgetting. And because MRobin is who they use and their “canon” sort of like FCorrin is the “canon” Corrin, IS is strongly hinting at MChrobin

Which fascinates me, we went from Chrom with a intended implied wife to scrapping it and pretended it never happened to this, Chrom with an intended husband. Him and his best friend, both two guys, very much in love. In ten years IS changed it’s mind on the intended canon pairing that isn’t even possible in the base game. They are a fate defying duo, the emblem of bonds, the exalt and his other half, two halves of the same whole and they are showing that in symbolism harder than ever. I think that’s really cool

To end this I’m aroace and see romance a little differently from the amatonormic norm Chrom and Robin could just be really good friends lord knows I also think friendship should be just as important as romance BUT if they were, it’s very clear they are each others most important person over any wife they might separately have. But even that doesn’t follow a typical heteronormative relationship no? Chrom and Robin’s bonds are so strong they transcend the concept of romance and friendship as we know it, there is no name for the type of love they share it’s beyond us.

But what about Lucina? (and Morgan) In a world with magic, dragons, people dying and coming back to life, time travel and more the idea of two guys somehow having a child is no longer far fetched at all really, or even surrogates exist.

Also they act like kind of like dads with her and it’s really cute

Now granted IS could remake Awakening and MRobin will still not be able to marry Chrom and this whole analysis would have been for naught but I think if they do remake it they’ll add it. Look at how many people have been introduced to them just through Heroes and Engage you don’t think people are going to want to pair up the exalt and his other half in their game?

To sum it up, yes there literally is no heterosexual explanation for where IS has taken this. It wasn’t originally the intended pairing but it sure is now, I don’t think there is any room for denial anymore until we see what they do with a remake.

male alear i found was a little easier to draw this go around, but perhaps i was already prepared for what to expect after drawing the female design? still... so many details...

dont have much else to say. just wanted to complete the collection.

Choose Your Legends 8 ended with lots of surprises, and it's time to celebrate!

I've seen concerning amounts of salt and bashing on the games involved or not, so this will be a positive post! I'm tired of the fandom's dumb takes and toxicity so let's praise everyone for the amazing scores and stories that unfolded during this vote!

First let's start with the link to all the official CYL art since Year 1 of FEH, enjoy the trip down memory lane!

CYL 8 Male winners:

🥇1: Alfonse | A beautifully deserved win for our well-written OC lord who keeps the story of Heroes entertaining with his crazy one-liners and unhinged plans, with more tender moments with his family and friends to soften him. I hope we get to see him grown-up like Legendary Veronica.

🥈2: Felix | I love seeing non-lord characters emerge from the voting. His voters have shown their supports 4 years in a row and it paid off! Especially nice win because Felix has been shafted by IS with a silly seasonal and an ok god-sword pre-TS unit.

CYL 8 Female winners:

🥇1: Bernadetta | Just like Felix, her voters lost to circumstances (aka the surprise Gullveig sweep), so I'm glad for them! Plus her post-TS personality should force the writers to tone down the moe nervous trait that flanderizes her character.

🥈2: Female Robin | She's finally free to be in the common summoning pool as herself, not Grima! She has too few alts to her name, and she marks the first time both genders of an avatar have won CYL, so good job!

About the Engage non-sweep, don't get disheartened! The votes for Engage were equal to Three Houses, but they were split between A LOT of fan favourites for both genders, while the FE3H fans rallied one last time for 1 male and 1 female representation, without competition from their lords. It's a respectable result, and the bashing on Engage is disingenuous and undeserved.

I've seen the top 5 from each game and I'm happy to see Finn up there for Thracia and Mae for Echoes. I hope to see Linoan soon, and other alts for Berkut and Rinea. People rallied for Athos to get in the game already, for Lloyd to have new art, for Seth and Titania to get the stats they deserve...

Fan favourites like Lyon or the Black Knight still score high. Azura received love. Even Elincia who's already been very lucky in 2023 got in the top for PoR and RD! I love to see people rally for a Sentinel Nephenee too.

We continue to see Leo and Takumi side by side, chilling in the male top 20 like BFFs. It's adorable.

This CYL8 follows in the steps of CYL7 with no main lords, only favourites and avatars.

Next year I hope to see Jugdral and Elyos win, but for now I'm happy with the 4 we have 🥰

How many possible growth rate variations does Morgan have?

Hi! Do you want niche calculations? SO, in Fire Emblem Awakening, the growth rates of child units are decided by the formula of

(Father's growth rates + Mother's growth rates + child's base growth rates) / 3

This means there are a LOT of possible variations for every kid. One kid in particular has more than most: Morgan.

This is because of Morgan's fixed parent: Robin.

(God I fucking hope I got my numbers right, I got a spreadsheet and everything)

Robin's growth rates

Robin is subject to the Boon/Bane system. Upon character creation, players can select one stat Robin excells in, and one they suck in. There are 8 stats, and a boon and bane cannot be of the same stat. These boons and banes will actually alter Robin's growth rates with up to 15% on boons and -20% on banes.

The total number of Robin's possible growth sets is simple: 8*7 = 56

8 is the number of possible boons, and 7 of the banes said stat can then have. So 56.

Morgan's possible secondary parents

In addition to Robin's many growth rates, as avatar, Robin can also get married to every single playable character in the game (excluding Einherjar).

For a male Morgan, this includes 24 possible fathers.

For a female Morgan, this includes 23 possible mothers.

So the growth rates are just 56*24 or 56*23, right? Haha. No.

Second Gen Units

Robin can also marry other second generation characters. Ethics of that aside, it adds another cinch to Morgan's stat set. Because the Second Gen Units also have flexible growth rates, calculated with the same formula at the start of the post.

We are, of course, excluding Robin as a potential parent for all these kids, because they are married in this scenario.

There are 6 male 2nd Gen Units, and 6 female 2nd Gen Units.

All 2nd Gen units who can optionally be Chrom's children (Inigo, Brady, Kjelle, Cynthia) have 13 possible fathers, all others 12.

The only outlier here is Lucina, who only has 5 possible mothers for plot reasons.

For male units = 12*4 + 13*2 = 74 For female units = 12*3 + 13*2 + 5 = 67

So there are 74 possible growth rate permutations for male 2nd Gen Units, and 67 possible growth rate permutations for female 2nd Gen Units.

Total possible fathers = 74 + 14 + 4 = 92 Total possible mothers = 67 + 15 + 2 = 84

This means the total possible father variations for male Morgan are 92, and the possible mother variations for female Morgan are 84.

The actual numbers

For male Morgan:

56*92 = 5.152

For female Morgan:

56*84 = 4.704

TLDR: In total, for both Morgans combined, there are 9.856 possible growth rate sets.

That's all.

Base stat variations are actually even more insane because they consider the difference between the parents' current and base stats. Which can be literally anything from 0 to maximum. Don't even bother counting that one.

Alright, I need to talk to the fandom.

I have been seeing people claiming F!Alear is the canon one because she got a legendary and other upset that she beats M!Alear to this because they fear it means she is canon, so I feel the need to say it and I will repeat it again and again and again and again and again and again and again until people finally learn.

Neither gender of the Avatar is canon. That's the whole point, choosing you avatar. Why do you think IS still market the Robin and Corrin as "default" rather then canon ? To not invalidate the customization.

M!Robin isn't the canon one, he is simply used much more because he is more popular. IS cannot throw away F!Robin's existence because 1)it means invalidating one of the Morgan's existence 2)it means invalidating one of the several Chrom ships 3) IS doesn't like to confirm anything canon these day. The reason why he is featured in Engage was because of gender balance and because IS is careful of Robin's intereaction with Lucina since she calls F!Robin "mother" when she is her mother.

F!Kamui isn't canon either. She is the represent of the Nohr route which is more popular among fans and F!Corrin is also more popular but M!Corrin represent the Hoshidan route and is used for marketing Birthright. Scrapping M!Corrin's existence would mean scrapping Birthright and there is no way IS would do that, and it also means scrapping one gender of Kana.

Now the bits about Byleth because it's the perfect example of how dumb this whole discourse is. F!Byleth is the most popular out of the two and was claimmed to be "canon" and when Hopes released, fans deduced she was canon because she was featured in the trailer. But the only reason why was because they choose M!Shez for the advertissement. So now that M!Byleth was choosen for Engage guess what ? Now people believe he is the canon one when not so long ago people though his female alter ego was the canon one.

And now Alear's turn. F!Alear got a legendary earlier because she was in the game much longer then M!Alear. If you recall, each time an Avatar gets an alt in heroes, said avatar's counterpart gets one too : F!Robin got a summer alt and M!Robin a winter alt; both Corrin appears in the ninja banner and the Halloween banner, both Byleth got a legendary alt. Now, both Alear are featured in FEh and while F!Alear got a legendary first, M!Alear is likely to get an alt soon to balance things up. And while both Alear are very popular, they are both used equally in terms of advertissement. The Engage trailers used more M!Alear for the advertissement, both are featured in the Engage tutorial, both are in Heroes and M!Alear is used in the Engage manga. Both appeared in the freaking opening.

All I am saying is that IS may favor an avatar over an other due to popularity but not because one is canon over another, if that was the case, you couldn't even choose their gender ! IS has no reason to make an avatar canon because 1/ either gender of the Avatar have 0 impact on the story, save for the Robin since F!Robin can be Lucina's mother while M!Robin can marry Lucina, 2/ IS hates making things canon these days, whether it be ships or anything. They can infer stuff some ships (in Engage case, they ship tease Alfred/Alear and Nel/Alear) but they never confirm any ships ever since the end of the Kaga era.

There is no canon gender for the Avatar.

Oh I can already see what's going to happen when we get bridal alts for the Foldan games. It's going to be a wonderful disaster of wank.

Although it's almost certainly inevitable, it's tough to predict specifics. Outside of the first two years and their handful of Awakening and Fates brides, the banner hasn't dealt with Avatar-centered games until this year with m!Robin and a quartet of Avatar-sexual brides.

If IS uses the same setup for Houses, it's either going to be -

m!Byleth with Edelgard + three other popular female characters, or

f!Byleth with all three house leaders + one more bi-for-Byleth female character, maybe Rhea as the most likely pick?

Option 1 will sell better because more waifus, but will be much complained about by the part of the fandom that hates that m!Byleth exists. Option 2 will shaft one of Dimitri or Claude (so Claude, let's be honest) by making him the Tempest Trial reward, which will greatly anger his fans. If Rhea's on there, Edeleth vs. Rhealeth will be a thing, possibly.

If instead they decide to throw random Fódlan characters on a banner, it's hard to say what'll happen. IS could play it super safe with picks like Hanneman and Manuela and/or some random assortment of non-leader students.

The absolute nightmare scenario would be a Dimitri + Edelgard duo. No one would be happy about that barring the oft-maligned Dimigard shippers.

It might be cringe to reduce the eldritch abomination into a fanservice fest, but at least IS keeps both Grima genders equal in terms of fanservice (excluding F!Grima's newest alt, though i still suspect that a M!Grima wearing the male version of the Hierophant outfit is on it's way too); a lot of the other Avatar alts have the male version be covered from head to toe with normal poses while the female version is wearing skimpy attire with extremely sexualized poses, if they even get the same alt in the first place.

The only reason why I would have been interested with a B!M!Billy was to see if FEH would still give him Sothis' attire or not lol

But given how the Robins, at least in their base forms, shared the same clothes, maybe IS thought it'd be "fun" to give them the same amount of sexy fanservice regardless of the gender, when it comes to Grima?

We will just have to wait until R!M!Grima is released lol
