to be honest if my only knowledge of sokka as a character was informed by how the fandom discusses and portrays him i think i would straight up hate him. like it wouldn’t even be a “whatever i don’t care about this guy” response i would legitimately be like “this fucking clown needs to get blown up with tnt right now”

I'm cleaning out my captures folder and I came across this particular gem (it's either a summary from a fic or a paragraph from one, I can't even recall). Every day stuff like this really has me thinking a lot of widely accepted views on SW/TCW canon/characters comes from people who have just straight up not watched it the source material lmao (not that it's breaking news or anything).

Obi-Wan made the decision not to tell Anakin he was faking his death - or if he lied about that to Anakin so Anakin would resent him instead of the Council, that still shows Obi-Wan is willing to back up his fellow Masters. Heck, he argues repeatedly for the need to keep Anakin in the dark in that very arc, so no, he didn't think the notion was 'bizarre.' Like, some people dunk on Obi-Wan for that very decision (which is at least more understandable than whatever take this is, even though there were some very good reasons for the secrecy) but man, the people who really, REALLY dislike the Council and don't see Obi-Wan as an intrinsic part of it are the hardest reachers.

hope you don't mind this completely unsolicited ask but anyway the constant "Gale is mean to sorcerers" discussion drives me nuts too. the Tav i made to romance Gale is a wild magic sorcerer because there are a couple of actually pretty sweet interactions between wild mages and Gale, i wish that was the dynamic people explored more often. my sorcerer thinks of magic as a hassle at best and a curse at worst and their relationship with Gale is what helps them accept it not just as a part of themself but as something to be embraced and celebrated (and helps them learn to control wild magic surges) - while they at the same time help Gale see his value *outside* of magic. i am so sorry for the ramble i just really like sorcerer/Gale stuff i wish so much of it wasn't about trying to "knock Gale down a peg" or whatever.

i do actually like the dynamic a wild magic sorcerer and gale can have as indicated by the wild magic sorcerer tags and gale's responses to them. i should have added that in my original post.

he's very good-natured, interested in their stories (stephanie the cow) or tries to emphasise with the things that was past their control sometimes (with gale emphasing again, given his own childhood and most recent magical affliction).

i think the dynamic gale and your wild magic sorcerer has sounds very sweet and definitely more based on mutual respect and helping each other.

my "complaints" - i don't even want to call them that because at the end of the day it's just a preference - are more about me being super tired of people taking the sorcerer options outside of the game at face value, not seeing how arrogant, rude and clownish they are, especially when they are aimed at a character like gale, who is leagues above and beyond in terms magical abilities and his very connection to the weave.

which again brings us back to the point where i think the real problem is for people: that a character is more powerful and capable than their oc and them not being able to stomach that at all.

One thing I love about Tumblr is how follower counts are invisible. Like for obvious reasons this prevents Annoying Bluecheck Behavior™ but ALSO it makes gaining or losing followers so much less stressful. Like when I switch gears from one topic to another and people unfollow me, it's like being a performer watching the stands clear after a show. Farewell, thank you so much for coming! people: i don't care what happens in your fanfic because i don't care about your ships. ao3 fandom etiquette says you don't tag the ship if it's not a fanfic about them. as important as you think they are to your fanfic, to your plot, to your ships, ultimately the fanfic isn't about them, and it has no place in the ship's tag. you don't need additional tags to clarify anything, nor do you need to tag it as a friendship, you simply need to not tag it as [ship]. it is that simple to be respectful and mindful of other people's fandom spaces. don't invade other people's space because you feel like it, be nice to people.

I love your blog so much!! I am brand new to JATP, deeply in love, and completely heartbroken it was canceled. I need everyone to stop teasing us about s2. But I also can’t help but think of the beautiful parallels with the story if it is renewed — coming back to life, getting a second act, etc. Art mimicking life etc etc. 💚

also, i can totally empathize with the feeling of being heartbroken. i still remember how i felt when we finally were told the show got cancelled. i hadn't been in an active fandom for a still running show for so long, i forgot how awful cancellation news can feel. and even with all my other fandoms i've been in before, they'd mostly run longer than was good for them, so cancellation usually felt more like a relief. so, not getting a season 2 really felt like the worst thing when it happened. there was so much potential, so much wonderful music we could have gotten, so many great stories and character moments i was looking forward to. i just really wanted these kids to get their happy ending, you know?

i made my peace with not getting more of jatp. i love the little revival of the fandom we are seeing right now—with "old" fans coming back and new people discovering the show—but i think we all have to be honest with ourselves that it's highly unlikely we'll ever get another season or a movie or a tour. (doesn't mean we all can't have a little fun—i think this fandom's rather notorious for seeing signs everywhere. mostly, i just see it as gallows humour. we've all just been through a lot. 😶)

anyway, yes, a second season would've been great for all the little things they've already put into the first season. the foreshadowing would've been amazing. and like i said, the boys would've deserved to come back to life and finally get everything they ever wanted (love, family, fame, closure etc.). either way, it is what it is.

but as long as we're all still here watching the show, talking about it, creating things around it, is it ever really dead? ♥️

Current obsession: The Antichrist, demons, and Biblical Mythology in general (especially everything to do with Eschatology). Yeah, that's... Not a soothing hobby in the current times. AHS: Apocalypse, which I recently, finally, watched for the previous reasons. And, Warrior Nun. Archangel Michael x The Antichrist ship dynamic. In my original work, and fanfictions. Michael is usually male, and the Antichrist is female, but I've developed a couple of ideas where it's the reverse.

But, I've been also working on my Warrior Nun Biblical AU. And, my AHS ideas. One, is the Millory arranged marriage thing. The other, is Michael Langdon x OC. Her name is also Michael. You know, the Archangel. You guessed that by now, didn't you?.. They are supposed to marry in the end, if only for the punchline.
