getting emotional about bobby and buck being father and son. and thinking about buck having an off day. no reason for it- he just wakes up sad. it happens sometimes.
and i don't know the inbetween, but at some point eddie and chris stop by, because of course they do, and chris spends five minutes with buck before declaring (with buck out of earshot) to eddie, "we need to call bobby." and eddie's confused, asks, "why, bud? did buck say something about wanting to call him?" and chris is just like, "no, but he needs to be here. we need to call him," like it's the most obvious thing in the world.
and so they do. and bobby comes, because of course he does. and buck answers the door with a surprised, "b-bobby? w-what are you doing here?" but with a smile bigger than anybody else has been able to win out of him all day. and bobby probably makes some excuse about needing bucks help with or wanting to show him a new recipe or something. and so they're in the kitchen, eddie and chris sitting at the counter, watching as buck slowly comes back into himself, small smiles and laughs, joking and talking, relaxing and breathing easier than he has all day as bobby squeezes his shoulder.
eddie turns to chris, asks quietly, always finding something to be in awe of his kid about, "how did you know, buddy?"
"sometimes, when i'm sad, all i need is a hug from my dad- or my buck. i thought that maybe buck just needed a hug from his dad, too."

every part of you (simple as that) | 2.8k
"Do you ever think about having kids?" The words fall from Buck's lips the moment Tommy returns from the bar with their beers. He flounders a little, mouth opening and closing like he can suck the words back in. To his credit, Tommy only blinks in surprise and takes a second too long to unwrap his fingers from the neck of the bottle when Buck reaches for it.
"Uh, no, not really," he says carefully, evenly. And Buck's only the tiniest bit disappointed that it doesn't fluster the man more. Tommy just joins him in leaning against the railing of the gazebo, hip and shoulder solid points of contact that Buck relishes in. The warm, strong weight of Tommy against him soothing the pacing dog in his chest. "I mean, I used to. When I still thought I was straight." He huffs a little laugh at himself, and Buck shares in it. A new feeling, wistful amusement. The years lost to a question you never thought to ask, or one you couldn't find the courage to answer. "It's what you do, you know? You find a nice woman, you get married, you have kids."
"Mm," Buck hums ins agreement, taking a sip of his own beer. It's a thought he's had countless times, a thought he continues to have, but now it's not always a woman standing up there at the altar with him. "You don't think about it now?"
"I never really considered it. Not with the job and everything." Tommy sighs, deep and heavy, before turning to face Buck head on. Something raw and vulnerable creeps into his eyes, and Buck finds himself standing a little steadier ready to catch whatever fragile thing Tommy is about to hand him. "The army, firefighting, Harbour. My mortality has never been a sticking point for me. I was always thinking: well, if I die, I die."
Buck sucks in a sharp breath, the words slicing through his skin like shards of a mirror long since shattered, settling in his gut like a stone of dread. How many times had he thought the exact same? How many times will he have to pay for his own carelessness by caring for someone he could lose so easily?
"I've made sure to live a life that would leave very little behind," Tommy continues. "Or I had. Until recently."
"Oh, yeah?" Buck raises an eyebrow, heart skipping once then twice. "What changed?"
"I think..." Tommy's voice is low as he sways into Buck's space. "I think I found something to stick around for."

I could be remembering wrong but I think it’s so telling that they’ve never referred to Buck as Chris’ “Uncle Buck”. Like it’s perfectly common for a close family friend to be called “uncle” or “aunt” in context of a kid because the parents consider that person family.
And it’s also evident and canon that Eddie and Chris consider Buck family (“there’s no one in the world I trust with my son more than you”, “if I die, you become Christopher’s legal guardian”, “he’s hanging out with his Buck today!”, “he was looking for Buck”, Chris calling Buck when worried about Eddie, Chris running away to Buck’s when upset with Eddie, Buck promising Chris he’ll always have him no matter what, Buck taking Chris on adventures an trips all the time, “Buck, can I spend Christmas with you?”, “Buck, can we go to your house and play video games?”, etc. etc. etc. ETC.).
So it’s crazy, insane, ridiculous, interesting that Chris and Eddie never even once refer to Buck as “Uncle Buck”, when it would work so seamlessly and would help further the narrative they’re desperately trying to push with Buck and Eddie being best friends/brothers.
The fact is, Buck is not an uncle figure to Chris. He’s not even just a friend. He’s a father that would move heaven and earth for his son. And calling it anything else would be a disservice to the relationship they’ve cultivated between Chris and Buck.
But it would be so easy. And the fact that they haven’t done that speaks volumes to me.

Can we have a parallel in Season 8 where Christopher’s classmate mistakes Buck for his dad and says something like: ‘you have really cool dads.’ And Chris is like ‘I know’ as he watches them fondly? Like when the lady did the same in that Christmas episode to Buck, the whole ‘you two have an adorable son.’
Like Chris is on a school field trip and theres a fire. The 118 and another house are brought in to handle it and when they get there Eddie and Buck can’t find Chris. So they just run in? Like Bobby did with May?
And they carry Chris and his friend out and check them over and they’re both super worried and Hen is like its okay I’ve got this and so they go back to doing their jobs and Chris’ friend is just so in awe of how cool Chris’ dads are???
The trip is cancelled so they call his over and help Chris into the Engine for a lift home and he’s just all smiles sitting between Buck and Eddie cause, yeah, his dads are pretty cool.
Added points if before Chris got on the bus for the school trip he was complaining about Eddie worrying over him and calling his dad embarrassing like the preteen he is.
Ugh! I just want more Buckley-Diaz Family🥹

Conversation
Chris: Hey, dad?
Eddie: Yeah?
Chris, crocodile tears: Why don't you love me anymore?
Eddie: ...Chris, we already bought a lego set last weekend, remember? One set a month, that was our deal.
Buck, carrying a bag of legos: Hello, family!

i can't stop thinking about how much kids love to ask questions especially crazy ones that adults would never think of asking and how one of christopher's first lines in the show is about whether or not dogs know they're dogs and i think about eddie, who probably never got to ask a lot of those questions because he was forced to grow up so fast so young, making sure chris knows that those questions are valued and wonderful and make him all the better and then i think about evan "i'm the guy with the answers" buckley who has always been so childlike in his curiosity, who would take every one of chris' questions so seriously, who would give long thoughtful answers or go away and look it up so he had the answer next time even if chris didn't remember the question to begin with and i just. they're the perfect family. they're so fucking full of love and they all complement each other so perfectly and it's just. FUCK.

I noticed that I managed to forget Buck and Eddie's tattoos an astonishing number of times (nearly always) and so I decided to add them now and put all the updated drawings in one post.
