yes, there were many different elements of the rebellion and vital contributions from several important people at different times and in different places within the galaxy and i would never diminish any of them. they all deserve their shine. i do, however, wholeheartedley believe the ghost crew truly were the backbone of the rebellion. their actions altered the course of so many major elements within the galaxy that would eventually culminate in the empire's downfall, most notably of which is ezra and his family taking thrawn out of the game before he could land a decisive blow.
and they managed all of this not with the help of rebel command, but through their own strength of will and the friendship and collaboration of a small rag tag group of fighters. they took the empire's most formiddable military asset out of play on their own. mon mothma was never going to commit more forces to lothal, she and the rest of command would have probably never even attempted a major strike against thrawn, at least not before it was too late to matter. so the ghost crew really went out there, gathered up their disparate crew of pirates, clones and ex-imperials and said "fine, we'll do it ourselves" and they actually fucking did it. without them and their efforts i truly believe victory would have been much, much harder to achieve, if not impossible. imagine thrawn being present at any of the decisive battles of the original trilogy. imagine the seventh fleet at endor. the picture starts to look a lot more grim all of a sudden, doesn't it?
the ghost crew achieved the impossible, and in doing so made the chance of victory a reality. they are the backbone of the rebellion.

Y'all said you wanted to know my new idea, so. Hear me out on this. Cracky fun-filled Rebels Superhero AU highkey based on the 1966 Batman show.
*narrator guy voice* At stately Syndulla Manor, home of millionaire Hera Syndulla and her youthful ward Ezra Bridger-
So yeah, Hera is a millionaire who does superhero work under the alias "Spectre." She has an invisible car called the Ghost (but Ezra always calls it the Ghostmobile.) Ezra is her adopted kid and sidekick. I'm thinking his superhero alter ego has a cat theme, just because. Maybe he goes by "Stray" or "Alley Cat" or something.
Now, enter Kanan!
Kanan also does superhero work, calling himself "Phantom." He, too, has a sidekick: Sabine! (I'm not sure if I want Sabine to go by "Nightowl" (referencing her Nite Owl helmet) or "Starbird.") Like Hera, Sabine is also pretty rich, but she tries to escape her life as the daughter of a famous politician by moonlighting as a superhero. She also refuses to be called Kanan's sidekick because she "works alone" (only she keeps showing up whenever he's investigating a crime because She's Lonely and he has Dad Vibes.)
Ahsoka is the "commisioner gordon" character, and she's in contact with all the heroes and often calls them both in for cases, but she also uses an alias (Fulcrum) so that the villains can't trace back to her and use her to get to the heroes. Zeb works at the police department and he's the one most often assigned to go work with the superheroes.
Hera and Ezra know each others' identities, since they're adopted family, but none of them know any other secret identities. Which leads to some pretty crazy shenanigans, because:
Hera and Kanan are engaged.
Spectre and Phantom are amiable coworkers.
Phantom very vocally admires Hera around Spectre.
Ezra is deeply suspicious of Phantom because he thinks Kanan is THE COOLEST and NOBODY ELSE should be acting all interested in Hera, especially if they don't even KNOW HER. SHE'S ENGAGED, BACK OFF BUDDY!
Ezra and Kanan have a great father-son relationship. The only strain is that Ezra will not shut up about how much Phantom annoys him.
Sabine and Ezra go to the same fancy school and they're best friends.
Ezra has the world's biggest crush on Nightowl/Starbird. Naturally, he confides in his best friend about it---minus the part where he's a superhero interacting with her regularly---completely unaware that she is Nightowl/Starbird.
Sabine thinks it's hilarious. (After all, it's just a celebrity crush---Ezra has never even met her as her superhero identity---and by the time he finds out her identity, he'll toooootally be over it! ...won't he?)
The only person to have everything figured out is Hera's butler Okadiah. He Is Amused.
So, yeah. Secret identity shenanigans.
Also, just funny stuff in general. There's lots of hilarious villains-of-the-week, among them such ridiculous characters as Commander Meiloorun. (Yes, Commander Meiloorun is an actual villain-of-the-week character here.) And the ridiculous costumes, too, obviously. I might have to draw them sooner or later.
Anyway, I've kinda expended my thoughts on this so far... yeah soooo that's all i have! (but stay tuned in case i do draw some art for it because i definitely might.)

Peace. Quiet. Calm.
Ezra Bridger could only have dreamed of such things during his time as both an orphan, and during his time in the Rebellion. He may have experienced some of it while isolated on Peridea, but this was something he preferred more.
The view of Lothal's capital city was something that literally came from a dream. He remembered first seeing it vividly alongside the spirits of his late parents during the night he learned of their deaths. However, the dream became a reality.
The galaxy was indeed shaken following Thrawn's return, but over the past few months, the tactical genius was no match for the stubborn will of New Republic military officials, and the famous Heroes of Endor, whom with joined hands of the Heroes of Lothal, turned the tables and put Imperial Remnants to route once again.
Regardless if there was nothing safe or sacred, it was a much deserved moment of relief Ezra wished he had earned earlier. For all the strife, fighting, and death that had to resume over the desire of totalitarian madmen who wanted to reclaim control over the galaxy and restart their ideas of suffering, the best thing he could do was live for all the good people that were lost. And for a very important reason...
He had been entranced by the shining and bustling beauty of the previously envisioned city when Sabine Wren -- his wife joined his side on the balcony. In her arms, the artistically destructive Mandalorian held a still bundle in her arms. Their ninetine month old daughter, Mira Wren-Bridger.
"Everytime I see you come out here, it's like you're always distracted by something that isn't even calling your name." She quipped. Sabine sure knew how to deliver sassy remarks, even after her life changed through marriage and motherhood.
"It's a good sight to go to sleep to." Ezra replied innocently, giving off a small chuckle when he felt his longtime best friend elbow him on the side.
"Well, I don't blame ya. I remember you mentioned seeing this after realizing what happened to your parents."
In the past, Ezra would have felt a tang of pain hit his heart about such a cruel and unfair reminder, no matter the wording, but he knew he was no longer the only one to have lost family after Sabine vented to him about her Clan getting slaughtered on Mandalore.
"It's not just that anymore."
Sabine looked over at him with a questioning gaze at his comment, making sure she still maintained a fair grip on little Mira in her arms, and so that the baby would not be awaken and make a fuss.
"We've made it happen, Sabine. All of us. I know deep down, my mom and dad would've been proud to see this. Right now, however, I just don't think I could ever thank you guys enough for helping to achieve this."
"As a Mandalorian, I don't take even the smallest of promises lightly. And as much as it's exhausting to bring up... you were counting on me at the same time."
That phrase had become very synonymous with Ezra's faith in his longtime best friend, and he already knew that when she brought him home, her promise had been fulfilled. There was truly no better person than Sabine that he could ask to ensure such things were sought through to the end, and he would never have it any other way.
"And you've kept your promise, Sabine. Thank you." He told her, turning his head to meet her gaze as his lips curled up to a warm smile. That smile was shared as they kissed briefly, before finally retiring inside their tower for a good night's rest.
Ezra was still unsure what new challenges awaited him for the future, but with Sabine by his side, he felt more at ease and ready to face them head on.
It felt like I just had ASMR cleanse over my brain cells reading this. It was so nice and welcoming oh my goodness. All the stress of the final episode just washed over me with this beauty!
Thank you for submitting! Genuine, It's the perfect amount of everything but not too overwhelming and so freaking cute!

Stressed out
Requested: yes!
Warnings: does being tired from work count?
A/N: ah, the random knowledge you find on the wookiepedia rabbitholes... I may have a very good understanding of cake in the galaxy ffa now. This was so nice to write, kinda different from what I usually do but I guess you'll be the judges of the final product hahaha

To say that your morning had been disapointing was a serious understatement.
A few months ago, when rebel command offered you a position as an intelligenge analyst, you felt honoured at the opportunity to make a bigger difference and help even more with your big ideas.
Today, however, was just another frustrating attempt at getting to see some action, even after you gathered all the intel and designed the entire course of action. They always insisted on giving the mission to someone else.
-"nothing?" - Ezra asks as you step into the hall of the rebel base on Yavin IV, where you'd taken that frustration out on some innocent pillows from your bed moments before.
-"I'm seriously starting to loose hope, Ezra"
-"What did they say this time?"
-"The usual 'Thank you for the suggstion. We'll take it under advisement'."
-"That's an improvment! Last time they said 'no, and that's final'"
-"If you ask me, i think they're just trying to find different ways to let me down easily"
-"Well...at least you tried?" - he takes your hand trying to comfort you, and you sigh as he leads you two outside for some fresh air.
-"It feels like 'trying' is all i've been doing lately. What is it that Kanan said once? Do or do not-"
-"there is no try" - he finishes with a smile - "it was actually Master Yoda who said it first, i think?"
-"The point is, if even Jedi wisdom says I should be doing more than trying, there's got to be something i can do to get my hands dirty for once"
-"Jedi wisdom would also tell you to be patient, young one" - he puts on a serious face only to break out a grin afterwards, and you laugh at his efforts to try and cheer you up.
-"we're the same age, Ezra" - you say through giggles
-"Thank the Force. Or else I wouldn't be able to do this" - he spins you and brings your face closer, planting a kiss on your lips you're more than happy to reciprocate. For a moment, you let your worries escape as his company makes it a bit easier to relax.
It doesn't last long though, as you hear a robotic voice call from behind you:
-"Excuse me, commander bridger" - the droid you recognize as AP-5 looks like he would give you an eyeroll if he could - "but captain Syndulla requests your presence immediately at hangar 4. So if you are quite done with your lip-sucking we should leave at once."
You can't help but snort at what he computed a kiss as. 'Lip-sucking is one way to describe it, I guess'
-"Sorry, I have to go now"- Ezra doesn't know weither to laugh as well or scold the droid for interrupting like that - "but I'll see you at 8?"
-"what happens at 8?"
-"we go on a date. You need to relax a little, do something fun!"
You don't get a chance to reply, as he's being dragged away in a hurry by AP-5. Normally you'd object, saying you had too much work, but now it didn't seem like a bad idea; it's not like you had a mission to go to, anyway.
.
x
.
-"I'm not sure we're authorized to be here right now" - you whisper, but he hushes you while opening the double doors and turning on the light.
Baking.
This was his idea of a fun time.
But, if his intention was to take your mind off of work, he was certainly on the right path: you would be too worried with not getting caught by anyone at that hour (the kitchen was supposed to be closed, you see) and not burning anything you made to a crisp to even think about anything else.
-"c'mon, let's put our baking skills to the test!" - he starts going through the drawers until the supplies are finally found.
-"Ezra, you can't put to the test what you don't have"
-"Hey, speak for yourself! Chef Bridger is always ready to prepare you a delicious meal."
-"and what will chef bridger be making today, huh?"- you try, but can't stop the smile growing on your face
-"let's see, uhhh" - he skims throuhg a book until his eye lands on the dessert section -"how about... some hotcakes?"
-"hmm, lemme see" - you read rhrough the instructions when he hands you the book -"oh, so it's like a pancake. Sounds easy enough."
-"A panna cake? Those are next page, i think."
-"No, not those. Pancakes." - you smile and put the book on the counter, starting to set the ingredients aside - "it's a famous food where i come from. Though panna cakes are quite similar."
-"Huh, can't say i ever tried it. Now you'll have to make some for me" - he shoots you a sly grin and recieves paper towels on the face in return.
-"Aha, no way, mister. You're helping me" - you turn around, gesturing for him to help you with the apron.
-"Alright, since you insist," - he fumbles with it for a while, but gives you a quick smooch once he's done -"I'll stay here with you. But only if I get mine with zoochberries"
-"as you wish, sir"
-"and please, don't call me mister or sir." - he chuckes and shoves a tall chef hat, posing ridiculously for you to snort.
- "The name's Bridger. Chef Bridger"

STAR WARS TOP TEN CHARACTERS AND RELATIONSHIPS (PART 3)
7) PADME AMIDALA
Tumblr media
Usually when characters are "TOO GOOD" they end up being unrealistic and unlikable. NOT HER! A queen by election, an uncompromising senator, a great speaker, a true defender of democracy, a politician that fights in the front lines if necessary and definitely the one true fashionista of the Galaxy. Padme, both in stile and principals, reflects all the good and opulence of the High Republic, an age of stability, greatness and awareness in which debate was a preferable weapon to actual weapons even though she had no problems handling a blaster. Even though we are presented with many great politicians throughout the series no one is quite as resourceful or capable as her. Not even the great Bail Organa. She manages to gain and hold the respect of most senators, even her rivals, despite her young age; she brokers seemingly impossible negotiations, at one point almost bringing the Clone Wars at an end via a peace treaty with the Separatist Alliance; with a single speech she stops the production of new clone batches saving the Republic from bankruptcy. And yet, despite all this wisdom and capacity her greatest asset is her pure and kind heart. It's truly heartbreaking that she of all people found herself in such a painful and controversial relationship. Her love for Anakin is ultimately her downfall as she realizes too late how far gone he is. If anyone ever died of heartbreak is her. It seems a contradiction that someone so strong could abandon herself to sadness in such a manner and yet this single weakness makes her all the more precious, pure and beautiful. With her death all the goodness of that age is burried too leaving the Galaxy colder, dimmer and scarier.
8) HERA SYNDULLA & SABINE WREN
Tumblr media
While the entire Specter crew is worthy of the spot, I want to celebrate its queens. I already called Ashoka Togruta pride, but for a species whose females are usually objectified and reduced to cantina dancers, Hera really elevates Twi'leks to the next level. Daughter of a famous and respected leader, Hera inherits that leadership and creates her own rag-tag team to guide the Galaxy towards insurgency against the Empire. It's always a brave decision to stand up against power and tyranny but to do so when one doesn't even know if they're alone in that effort is a titanic feat. Hera leaded the Spectres before the rebel alliance was even formed and had a pivotal role in their operations both as a strategist and an A class pilot. Acting as the mother of the crew she is one of the main reasons the other characters of her team remained alive and bloomed to their full potential. If it wasn't for her, Ezra Bridger wouldn't have joined the fray. Also, she manages to make Han Solo admit that the Ghost is better than the Falcon. Can one blame Kanan for falling head over heels in love with her? And Sabine, well...she is proof that one can be level-headed and hot-headed at the same time. A sassy, trigger-happy, genius, teen Mandalorian with a talent for street art. If you don't love her for this alone then it's definitely all her colors and wicked style that are gonna knock it out of the park. Not only does she change hair-cut and dye each season of "Star Wars: Rebels" she gives her armour a different paint-job too! While Din Djarin's armour is probably the most beautiful and impressive structure and defence wise, Sabine turned hers into a proper masterpiece. Her artistic merits are so good that even art expert Grand Admiral Thrawn wants to collect some of her works. At one point, she wields the dark sabre and manages to unite Mandalorian clans against the Empire's puppet leader. The fact that she had been accepted as a leader by her people but still decided to take a step back and pass the power to older and wiser Bo-katan Kryze is truly a point in her favour. Unforgettable is her relationship with Ezra, built on camaraderie, mutual trust and frienship. Wherever Ezra has ended up Sabine will keep searching for him until he is safely back home.
9) CAPTAIN REX AND THE 501
Tumblr media
The prequel trilogy doesn't really tell us much about the clones and what happened during the years of their faithful service to the Republic before the tragic events of order 66 unfold. Thank goodness a lot of additional material got that covered! (Anyone watching the Bad Batch?!) All clones should be celebrated and mourned but no clone captured the heart more that Cpt./Commander Rex along with all the 501st. legion. The faithful and elite group of soldiers led by Anakin Skywalker and Ashoka has proven itself both in and out of the battlefield. Not only did this squad survive the treacherous General Krell, they managed to win the battle he was actively trying to sabotage, get a full confession out of him and imprison him. Not only this, it was one of the squad members, Fives, that almost uncovered the full plot against the Jedi order designed by Chancellor Palpatine. While all clones regarded each other as brothers there was a special bond that tied the men of this group and its leaders. Rex went to extensive lengths to retrieve his lost companion Echo, a move that Anakin supported; Fives ran to Rex and Anakin to reveal his discoveries and had they all not been interrupted, even in his frenzied state, the two seemed willing to listen to his side of the story. There was a solid complicity and trust between Anakin and his men to the point that he revealed to Rex his secret relationship with Padme (Something he didn't openly speak of even with Obi-Wan and Ashoka) and told him of her pregnancy. In exchange, Rex always trusted his general even when he got them all in the most dangerous and unorthodox situations, looking up to him and regarding him as the best of the Jedi even years after the war had ended (when complimenting Kanan's skills he purposefully underlines that he's still not as good as Skywalker). But the most heartwarming instance of all is when Rex and the 501 greet Ashoka, banished from the Jedi order and the military, with painted helmets to remind of her markings still referring to her as Commander. Rex goes always above and beyond his duty, aiding Ashoka and the rebellion years after being dismissed from service. Even as an old timer, he proves that the new Stormtroopers have nothing on him and that he is truly the ultimate soldier and friend. I only wish he could have met Luke, considering he was one of the very few who knew Anakin was expecting a child and he never realised that Anakin hadn't died at the end of the war but had become Darth Vader.

I know there's this trope in fanfics of sending post-AotC Obi Wan time traveling to some point in the past, but they always de-age him or place him in the body of his younger self. But can you imagine if crazy old desert wizard Ben Kenobi was the one sent back unaltered? How would Obi Wan in that state of mind react? All the other characters in the past? Anakin? Obi Wan's younger self, if he's there?
So I know this is a trope that was very well-covered in elfpen’s Reprise series on ao3, but I am happy to dip my proverbial oar into speculation on this point. (About 3 months too late, but such is life.)
It’s interesting, trying to get into the mindset of “Old Ben Kenobi.” We are offered precious little insight into that aspect of his character - we know he lands on Tatooine and is essentially shattered, that his early years (according to the Legends novel Kenobi, which is a masterpiece, and the short in From a Certain Point of View) are a mix of coming to terms with what happened, training himself, trying to reach an ephemeral Qui-gon for advice, and perhaps settling into his supposed wise Jedi role.
So I suppose the first question would be, at which point would we send him back? 20 years is a long time, and people can change wildly (ask me about the year 2000, or better yet, don’t. Eek.) But since you came into this ask explicitly referencing “crazy old desert wizard Kenobi,” we can assume this would later into his Tatooine years, after he was able to build up a bit of a reputation for being an irritable and inscrutable fixture of the Dune Sea. (And after he perfected his Krayt dragon routine, which is sheer Obi-wan, because come on, Kenobi.)
Who is Ben Kenobi? We don’t get a ton in canon about his later years. We know in ANH that he is a mysterious, capable fighter who still refuses to actually deliver any hard cash upon demand, but beyond that, the best characterization we have comes from “Twin Suns,” which - let’s break it down. (And cry forever, I am still emotionally compromised by this episode three years later.)
We get very little real Kenobi content in this episode - about 10 minutes’ worth. But it tells us a lot. First of all, there is this:
Tumblr media
Ben Kenobi already knows who Ezra Bridger is. Now yes, Force shenanigans, etc., but Obi-wan Kenobi is not dumb and he would have kept abreast of the Rebellion and would have figured out a way to learn information, even on Tatooine. He may have sensed Maul, but Ezra was a known quantity and he would have put 2 and 2 together. Which tells us Obi-wan is still invested very much in the defeat of Palpatine. He hasn’t given up yet.
Tumblr media
Oh, Obi-wan. The man has kept his very subtle, very dry sense of humor, even if it is a joke only to himself, as Ezra would have zero idea what Ben Kenobi is referring to. Crazy old wizard, indeed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a great line for two reasons. One, I truly believe Obi-wan is tired. Tired of fighting old demons, especially demons that were only lesser pawns in the grander scheme of Palpatine’s. If Obi-wan only hadn’t been distracted by Maul, if he had seen past that smokescreen to discover the true villain - I think there’s a lot of regret Ben Kenobi has had to work through and his only true fight now is to keep Luke safe. But the second part of that line - “though that seems inevitable now” - is pure Kenobi snark. He’s still Obi-wan. Just a very weathered version of himself.
Tumblr media
Oh, Ezra. Foot-in-mouth disease, anyone? Destroy the Sith? Really?
Tumblr media
Ouch.
I also find the next few lines here to be edifying.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, Ben is famous for his “from a certain point of view” line, but remember where this comes from. “The truth is often what we make of it. (Anakin is the Chosen One. Anakin will stay good. Hell, Obi-wan knows that Qui-gon’s belief in prophecy was his truth and Obi-wan chose to believe it.) You heard what you wanted to hear, believed what you wanted to believe. (The Jedi are good. The Republic is good. Dooku is lying. Qui-gon’s belief in prophecy has meaning. Anakin will not turn.) And now, the only one who has gained anything from all of this is…(Palpatine.)
That whole set of lines could be Obi-wan talking to himself, probably was Obi-wan talking to himself and Qui-gon’s ghost on Tatooine. He’s had Time To Think About Things.
Okay, so “me” as in Maul appears and Obi-wan sends Ezra on his way. I will never be over this confrontation, because check this out. First of all, Obi-wan tries to talk his way through this, which is extremely in-character (he even did this during The Lawless, before Maul gutted Satine.) But also, he is not afraid of Maul. Because he knows precisely how he is going to goad Maul into combat and win easily.
Tumblr media
As has been documented, Obi-wan switch from his Soresu to Qui-gon’s Ataru stance in an explicit reference to their first duel on Naboo. Maul catches on to this immediately (you see the widening of his eyes) and switches into his opening stance on Naboo. Maul cannot let go of the past and Obi-wan knows this, which is why he anticipates the maneuver Maul tries to pull (the Qui-gon special, as it were) and Obi-wan wins so easily. Meaning…Obi-wan has learned from his own past mistakes.
NOW.
What does this all spell for a time-traveling Ben Kenobi?
That he would keep his trademark dry humor, but given his time on Tatooine, it would be more arid than the Mojave in the summer. (Which is pretty damn arid, let me tell you.)
He would waste no time forming a plan to get to Palpatine. He already let disaster occur once (and despite everything, I still have no doubt that Obi-wan hadn’t worked through all of his guilt surrounding Anakin, even if he managed to mitigate the more (self)destructive aspects of it). If the Force is giving him a second chance, he will not squander it for anything. Which is interesting, because it might make him more likely to form alliances with shadier characters and in a way, make him more like Qui-gon or even Dooku because he knows at this point how the Jedi fall prey to both Palpatine and themselves. And wouldn’t a confrontation between Old Ben and Dooku be fascinating? I have the feeling Ben Kenobi would come out the victor there, and it would have nothing to do with physical combat.
Ben Kenobi would go out of his way to hide his identity, perhaps even hide his Jedi abilities. Especially around Anakin. But Force, to be given another chance with Anakin, to be a stabilizing entity in Anakin’s life and not a too-young father who never had time to process an avalanching number of tragedies in his own life while barely keeping it together in so many ways and still being bitter about Qui-gon’s actions...not to mention the war, Anakin’s training, and everything, Obi-wan never had a chance to deal with 15 years of chaos until he was stranded on Tatooine, which is a relatively good reason we see him go under that personality shift between RotS and ANH. He’s finally had time to deal. But this time, he is going to do right by Anakin, he will defy the Council whenever he has to and screw prophecy, and it’s weird kind of Qui-gon but kind of not set of actions?
But Ben Kenobi would also troll the hell out of the Council because he could. Let’s be honest - he’s still Obi-wan.
Now a younger Obi-wan meeting an older version of himself - I think they would clash, horrifically. Assuming that young Obi-wan has no idea who this old coot is, I think Obi-wan would Ben frustrating, condescending at times, too smart for his own good, and too skeptical of the Jedi Order and Council, even is the old man is right half the time. We all tend to carry versions of our parents with us, and it’s possible Old Ben carries enough Qui-gon with him to seriously irritate Obi-wan Kenobi.
I think the bigger question in Old Ben coming back is if he would stay 100% light Jedi, or go a little grey in his quest to Save. Everything. And it depends on how far he is willing to go. Which is why I think he and Dooku interacting would be the most fascinating of all possibilities in this scenario.

At Peace
Sabine found herself restless on Lothal. There was a suspicious lack of trouble, of...the Empire. She shot at targets more often than she did at stray Stormtroopers.
She should have been at peace. But Mandalorians are never at peace. In fact, she felt more at peace in chaos than in this restless, empty world.
Without a distraction, grief swept in.
Kanan.
Ezra.
“I know I can always count on you.”
Ezra was counting on her to help bring peace to his world. Well, what about her peace, damn it? She couldn’t even sleep, wondering where he was. Wondering if he was coming back. Wondering why he didn’t tell her.
Wondering if he was alive.
He had to be alive. He had to come back and see Lothal, see what he’d done, how Sabine had continued his legacy.
So she threw herself into training, into hunting down threats — Empire related or not. She ended bar fights, helped lothrats like Ezra, and fended off corruption. She kept in contact with Ryder Azadi, now the reinstated governor, and helped him rebuild the government and society. She helped him form a local militia that wasn’t entirely pitiful. She hunted down any leads on Impirial involvement and snuffed them out.
She was the Protector of Lothal.
She also worked with Ryder to speak out against the Empire, and enlighten the people on the Rebels’ actions on Lothal.
They called for a memorial. Ryder approved and sent workers to clear a space and plan the memorial — in the old fuel depot.
Sabine told Ryder she’d have nothing to do with it.
Two years after Ezra disappeared, the memorial was done. Sabine was unanimously recognized as Lothal’s protector, a living legend. The streets were peaceful, mostly thanks to her. The sky was clearing of pollution, and birds long gone started singing again. Ezra’s name and face and memory were plastered on every street corner, and in every corner of her mind.
How she wished to forget. How bitterly she forced thoughts of him away. Part of him hated him for leaving her on his planet to do his job while he was off who knows where and leaving her grief stricken with the weight of a planet and her grief on her shoulders.
Most of her was searching for answers. Between training and helping Ryder and hunting down threats and keeping up with Hera, she scoured every star chart she knew, made calculations based on his approximate trajectory and how long he’d been gone. Ahsoka contacted her, telling her she was looking for him. Telling her any leads she found.
There weren’t many.
Karabast, where was he?
Three years after he’d been gone, Sabine almost wanted to give up.
But Mandalorians never give up.
Four years, she finally visited the memorial.
Ryder had a copy made of her mural, to her strong distaste. The carbon copy, painstakingly created by famous artists, including Sabine’s father, sat in the shell of an old and burned out fuel pod. Flowers had grown in the space of embers. Lothcats and children scampered in the grass. Next to the memorial was their story, displayed as a repeating holo documentary.
On a plaque read, “what matters isn’t whether we fight, it’s what we fight for; how we choose to fight.”
Sabine ground her teeth. Those were not his exact words. Sabine slid down to sit among the grass, smelling of rebirth. Of peace. She felt hot tears gathering in her eyes. Looking down, she found another plaque.
“On this spot, Kanan Jarrus, Jedi Knight, sacrificed himself for our freedom.”
Sabine let her tears flow.
It took another year for her to return.
When she did, she found herself wandering through the park. Children played, adults watched their children or listened to the documentary. Teens went on dates or did their homework or gossiped with friends.
She found herself listening when Ezra’s name caught her ears.
“Ezra Bridger, hero of Lothal. More like hottie of Lothal.” The boy speaking was holding a holo photo: Ezra’s blue-lit form displayed from hips up and wielding his lightsaber with a fierce look in his eyes.
She scoffed, rolling her eyes. How Ezra would love to hear that.
Not that they were...entirely wrong. Though he was more best friend than anything else, and Sabine strongly preferred women, he had shaped up well. The haircut and the training didn’t hurt.
What? She was his best friend, not blind. Oh...blind. Sabine winced inwardly and continued eavesdropping.
The boy who was speaking laughed as the girl next to him snickered. “If he likes boys, he’s all yours. But if he likes girls...” the girl trailed off, sighing. “Too bad he had to disappear.”
Sabine’s smirk twisted into a frown.
Too bad.
Sabine turned towards them, forcing a proud smirk. Their eyes widened in recognition.
“Sabine Wren,” the boy whispered in awe.
“Protector of Lothal.” The girl finished.
Sabine nodded. “That’s me. And I know that ‘hottie’ better than everyone. By the way, he likes both.”
The two teens flushed.
“And if he ever comes back, I’ll send him your way after I drag him back here with his tail between his legs.” Sabine grinned, then put on her helmet.
“Good day. Your names? You know, for Ezra.”
They stared up at her. “I’m Mira,” said the girl. “And that’s my brother Caleb. Our parents are big fans of...you.”
Sabine pursed her lips under her helmet.
“I’ll send him your way.”
Sabine left the park, more at peace than she had been for five years.
The next day, Ashoka contacted her.
It was time to bring him home.

The Beginning of the Imperial Era
As the Galactic Empire is finally founded on 19 BBY, many across the galaxy are furious, excited, and scared, for what is to come in the future with this new empire. The new empire is ruled by Darth Sidious and his apprentice Darth Vader. The Skywalker twins are now separated, the girl on the planet of Alderaan and the boy on the planet of Tatooine. Obi Wan Kenobi goes into exile on the same planet as Luke, on Tatooine and Yoda goes into exile on thw planet of Dagobah. All the other surviving jedi from order 66 go into hiding, knowing that if they are discovered they will be captured and taken to Vader for certain death. As the empire is spreading it’s new laws and fears into the galaxy, rebel groups are being created, recruiting whoever has the guts to fight against the empire. Most of these groups are unsuccessful, quickly being discovered and put down by the empire. But there was one group, that was successful meaning that they were not caught by the empire. This group sabotaged imperial cargo, made statements around the galaxy, and helped spark the light to a big cause. This group was led by a jedi who survived order 66, his name was Caleb Dume, aka “Kanan Jarrus”. His crew of consisted of four; Hera Syndulla, Sabime, Zeb, and the astromech droid named “Chopper”. They would later introduce the force sensitive teen Ezra Bridger into their crew. Their missions and adventures would come to life in the Disney XD series called Star Wars Rebels.
Tumblr media
Personally, I was not a fan of this show, as it lacked the tense battle scenes compared to Star Wars The Clone Wars. While there wasn’t much action in the show, it did have great plots and story lines to go with it. It vividly details how life was before the creation of the main Rebellion that we are more familiar to. The crew would meet important figures from the Clone Wars, the most famous being Captain Rex, Commander Wolfee, Commander Gregor, and Ashoka Tano. The “Ghost Crew” would make a major impact on the events leading to the Galactic Civil War. They would later join forces with the Rebel Organization created by Bail Organa and Ashoka Tano. Their ship would make cameos on Star Wars movies, the most recognizable one being in Rogue One :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their ship and Chopper made appearances in the movie. It might’ve been for a couple of seconds, but it was still very cool to see this. As they underwent many battles, thay had many ups, and many downs.*Warning Spoilers Ahead* : Commander Gregor would later die, helping save others for his life. Caleb Dume would sacrifice his life to help save the rest of his beloved squad. Ezra would later go into the unknown with space creatures, his actions leading to the survival of many rebels. It has been confirmed by the directors of the show that Ezra is indeed alive, in the middle of space. They didn't give any details on when we would later see him again. Captain Rex would go on to be with the rebellion till the end of his days, famously he appears on the battle on the moon of Endor.
Tumblr media
A great way to end his legacy as a solider. So there you have it, the beginning of the Galactic Empire Era in a nutshell. Next week we will talk specifically about one of the greatest and most daring missions ever. The events of the movie Rogue One, as this leads to the beginning of the Galactic Civil War. As always, stay tuned!

Mortis Explained (In Star Wars Rebels & The Clone Wars)
Tumblr media
SPOILERS about Rebels season 4 ahead.  “Ezra, it’s art, everything has a meaning.” -Sabine Wren. Rebels season 4, ‘Wolves & A Door.’  Before I begin, keep this quote in mind. Nothing done in these episodes is an accident. Every detail is utterly and completely intentional. They just told you so. This post will be an ever expanding explanation of all things Mortis, as seen in Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars. Hopefully, this might aid some people in a fuller understanding. The Clone Wars ‘Mortis Trilogy’ (season 3) was essentially George Lucas explaining in greater detail, what The Force is to him, and now by extension, his Padawan Dave Filoni. I even see a lot of this in The Last Jedi (but that’s another blog!) As Joseph Campbell writes: “It will always be one, shape-shifting yet marvelously constant story that we find, together with a challengingly persistent suggestion of more remaining to be experienced than will ever be known or told... It would not be too much to say that myth is the secret opening through which the inexhaustible energies of the cosmos pour into human cultural manifestation.” The Mortis stuff (even the Yoda arc. TCW season 6 etc ) is the attempt to further express these inexhaustible energies. Before I go further, we need to understand the true purpose of all this stuff through the lens of Joseph Campbell. and we need to see through it translucently. As Campbell noted, “The problem of the theologian is to keep the symbols translucent, so that it may not block out the light it is supposed to convey.” What needs to be cleared from the lens is the view that Mortis could be anything other than what spirituality has always been in mythology through the ages: an attempt for the hero to return and show us that all is One. That all physical life in space and time is actually literally one with the spirit realm. This is what Campbell was on about and by extension (as it is more that well documented), this is what George Lucas was intentionally on about, in directly translating Campbell’s ideas to screen. The truth is that SW conveys spiritual ideas of the world – the ones that all the spiritual teachers have spoken of through time - SW does not make up its own spirituality. So to understand Mortis, one must understand Campbell’s view on spirituality in myth, more than Star Wars. Finally we need to understand what Campbell was telling us about the symbols. Their importance is not in the literal meaning, but in how they seem to magically transport us to the other world. They have always been used to this great effect in Star Wars. I.e. It is not so important to literally understand who The Father, Son and Daughter are in Mortis episodes, as it is to feel the “tone” that they bring through a common “Trinity” archetype, like The Father, Son and Holy Spirit, or Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, or Thought, Word & Action, or Body, Mind and soul, etc. Now, let's get started! The Two Kingdoms Are Actually One Let’s start with this George Lucas quote and then compare it to one of Campbell’s: “The role of the artist is to find the common threads that make all people one.“ In contemplating this quote, we begin to see that Lucas was making his intent very apparent. Yes, this is totally in line with everything Campbell was saying in his work. The mission could not be more clear! Compare to Campbell: “And here is a great key to the understanding of myth and symbol – the two kingdoms are actually one… and the exploration of that dimension, either willingly or unwillingly, is the whole sense of the deed of the hero.” Simply watch the Mortis stuff with that quote in mind - the two kingdoms (i.e Heaven and Earth) are actually one - and you will begin to notice your awareness of its metaphors telling you something. As the character of The Father said, “What happens here (on Mortis) will happen in your universe.” This may seem like something mysterious and bewildering, but it is in fact something that is actually quite utterly clear; he two kingdoms are actually one. This is why in The Clone Wars season 3 Blu Ray special features, director Dave Filoni said that he would not explain” Mortis - because it would rob the viewer of their ability to understand the metaphors. That is the purpose of this blog post, to uncover the language of the symbols. Which Star Wars did not make up, it is using, and always has used, the tried tested and true one. We finally see more of a conclusion to the “Mortis Trilogy” episodes, in Star Wars Rebels season 4, titled ‘Wolves And A Door’ and ‘A World Between Worlds.’ And wow what a conclusion! Everything that has been given so much more clarity. As I had been speculating, it is fully apparent now that Ezra Bridger’s last name was chosen to symbolize that he was to be a “bridger” between the Two Worlds. In the latter episode, Ezra comes to “understand” the Mortis mural on Lothol’s Jedi Temple, and thereby is able to walk through to the spirit realm. Interesting to note that religious art in cultures all over the world has always been thought of as a “window” as such, by the devout. In the Easter Orthodix Christian tradition, their painting are literally thought of as “Icons”  that mysteriously actually transport one to the oether realm (like this famous Holy Trinity Icon by Russian Iconographer Andre Rublev). Here is a screenshot of the mural. Anyhow, once there, Ezra walks along pathways encountering many circle shapes, which turn out to be actual windows through time (more on that later), but here is my instagram post and screenshot of the circles.  They are essentially a symbol for wholeness of the universe, and even the cyclical nature of time. Noted concept artist and Star Wars commentator Paul Bateman shared this Taost view on the circle symbol, on a post of mine on facebook. Paul commented, “It's all in the Tao - or Enso if you prefer. Microcosm to macrocosm, from the atoms to the spiral arms... it's all circles my friend from the womb to the tomb. The nothing and the all.” The microsom of the macrocosm is inside us all. Oh, it should be noted that Ezra Bridger was also walking across bridges to get to the circles. “Bridger.” Bridging the Two Worlds.  The Great Deed Of The Supreme Hero After a careful re-reading of the The Hero With A Thousand Faces, I noticed Campbell was saying (repeatedly to make a point) that the hero’s great deed is essentially that he/she discovers that everything in life and the universe is one, that there is literally no separation between oneself, the cosmos and the spirit realm. He wrote, “The great deed of the supreme hero is to come to the knowledge of this unity in multiplicity and then to make it known.”   Anyhow, Campbell adds the modern psychoanalytical side: that unconscious is also where we find the symbols and that other realm. Therefor, the Mortis trilogy starts with Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka fall asleep into the dream world, the unconsciousness. In the Jungian psychoanalytical view, we enter this other world symbolically through dreams.  Once there, there our three heroes find they are one with dark and light (Son and Daughter) and even other ‘dead’ beings like Qui-Gon Jinn, who says “I am here because you are here.” This statement could actually not be any more unambiguous; when all is one, you are connected to everyone everywhere, whether “dead“ or alive, simply because you exist. Again, the physical, spirit and unconscious realms are literally one.  Anakin even sees a vision of himself as the future Vader. Even time is one, meaning time all happens at once. More will be said later on the nature of time in a universe where there actually is no such thing as time. For now, let’s quote Campbell, “What is understood is that time and eternity are two aspects of the same experience-whole, two planes of the nondual ineffable.”    In Rebels episode ‘Dume’ (s.4 ep. 11) the Wolf tells Ezra his name is “Dume.” This could also not be more clear, in this sprit realm that Exra has been transported to, Kanan (Caleb Dume) and the wolf are one and the same, and the oneness of Kanan, the wolf and the entire universe is already and always inside us. Here is another Campbell quote to clarify even more: “And so it is that the cosmic symbols are presented in a spirit of thought bewildering sublime paradox. The kingdom of God is within, yet without.” That bewildering sublime paradox, of The Force being both within you, yet also everywhere outside you, is Mortis, as Mortis itself is both within our heroes and without them. It is an apt metaphor of the microcosm and the macrocosm. I can’t think of two better words than bewildering and sublime to encapsulate Mortis!  We Are The Light And The Dark George Lucas’ explained this stuff to The Clone Wars writing team, available as an easter egg special feature in the saga Blu Ray set: “We have a selfish side and a selfless side, when those two are kept in balance, we can do a lot of good.” I paraphrased a little, but I’ll watch this feature again sometime soon to get the exact wording. That’s the scene where Anakin tames the Son (Dark) and Daughter (Light). It’s that simple. Even the Dark and Light sides are one. The obvious lesson here from Lucas (and all the mystics through time) is that if we repress our dark side, and pretend it is not there, it will grow uncontrollably and take us over, to a point of imbalance.  Campbell explains the wholeness of these sides with the Taoist view: ‘Yang, the light, active, masculine principle, and Yin, the dark, passive, and feminine, in their interaction underlie and constitute the whole world of forms… They proceed from and together make manifest Tao.” By acknowledging the existence of our dark sides, we can understand and see clearly what we do not want to chose. We can begin to chose more selfless actions, and thereby live more fully in the light. The Eternal Moment Finally, a heavy idea and concept idea finally explained more fully in the recent Star Wars Rebels‘Mortis episodes, is the idea of time and space and how it relates to the galaxy and the ‘Cosmic Force’ in Star Wars. Today’s New Spirituality has admirably attempted to expand it’s understanding alongside science, with a concept that is sometimes called The Eternal Moment, where everything is happening all at once. Where even time and space are one! Walking around that circle, as the Wolves do in the Rebels episode ‘A World Between Worlds,’ would be the ultimate symbol for that, as there really is no begging point nor end to time. I’m no scientist, but the basic understanding of modern science is that there is no such thing as time, and I understand that basic premise. Some teachers and gurus in modern spirituality, also call it a “Divine Dichotomy.” If time is happening all at once, one would assume the future is written, so how could one have free will? The simple answer can be found in the idea of multiple parallel universes. We experience our differing chosen fates on different planes of existence, simultaneously. You might be saying “rubbish”, that’s okay, just follow me a little further here. The important thing here in mythology is not whether this is true or not, the important thing is that the symbols and metaphors of myth evolve and continue to attempt to express the insights of it’s time. I commend Star Wars creators for continuing to follow George Lucas’ intentions in doing this! The Daughter expressed this to Anakin on Mortis, “I am the beginning, the middle, and the end.” So basically, in the Rebels season 4 episode ‘A World Between Worlds’, Ezra peers through one of the circles (a window through time and space) to save Ahsoka from being killed by Vader on Malacor in the Rebels season 2 finale. This is also insight into “The victory for all time” that Yoda spoke of in the very last episode of The Clone Wars - the victory of all time is to exist all the time! But I digress. The knowledge that Ezra gains here is that he needs to learn from Kanan’s final act, to also selflessly let go of his attachments - and further, to accept the will and intentions of others. Ahsoka explains this to him, as she herself choses to return (travelling through time) back to her “decent” into the temple on Malacor. Finally, this now further clarifies why The Father made Anakin forget his vision of his future as Vader on Mortis in The Clone Wars season 3 episode. Anakin sees but one of his possible futures, but he needs to forget if, if he is to have true free will, when the moment comes for him to chose. Interesting that they have The Father touch Anakin’s Third Eye as he makes Anakin forget, using Hindu symbolism. Oh! By the way, this is also why when Anakin, Ahsoka nd Obi-Wan wake up from their Mortis “sleep”, it only registered as an instant in time. Just another Eternal Moment! Your Focus Determines Your Reality (Even In The Other Dimensions) Other concepts in modern spirituality heavily focus on thought as manifestation of reality. This is something I am convinced that George Lucas was studying heavily between his two trilogies (see my final note in this blog for recommendations of who to start checking out). Qui-Gon Jinn’s quote from The Phantom Menace defines what I have come to believe was Lucas’ key artistic statement regarding spirituality in the Prequels, “Your focus determines your reality.” This is essentially what Anakin did, he focused on Padme’s death, and that focus made that his reality. He killed her. He created this fate through thought. Dave Filoni further explained how this works even faster in the Cosmic Force. He explained: “You have to be careful when you’re moving through these big powerful dimensions and what you’re wishing for. Everything he [Ezra] wishes for, out loud, is a dangerous thing to do. If you watch and listen when Ezra talks and he makes certain statements, there’ll be a thunder clap, and that thunder is representative of something else listening.” The time between what you think and what is created is instantaneous, like thunder. Thought is creation. Or as more commonly heard in the Western religion, "In the beginning was the word, and the word was made flesh." Through this lens we even begin to understand other quotes from the Mortis Trilogy. When Qui-Gon responds to Obi-Wan, “I am here because you are here”,  we see that it's because the two worlds are actually one, and everyone is always already connected to everyone else - even through the oness of space and time. It just takes a willingness to be aware of that. Or it takes  being a Jedi who’s awareness is more honed, while also on a specially connected nd Force strong place like Mortis or Lothol.  The Mortis Mural As a Fine Art college grad and someone who apprenticed with an Eastern Orthodox “Iconographer” for many years, I was struck by how on point the Mortis mural on Lothol was. It reminded me most of this famous Eastern Russian Orthodox "Icon" by Rublev. Especially with use of hand gestures and the way the Daughter turns and bows her head to the central figure. This bog is getting long, so for brevity I’ll just say that the basic concept of “Icons” are that they are actual windows to heaven. Not painting but actual doors. So the Mortis mural pays homage to these iconic “Trinity” paintings, and uses the symbolism most appropriately. The Two Worlds Are Actually One.  I love that they keep telegraphing what they are doing by using key words that clearly and utterly indicate what language they are doing. Another moment like this, is when the Trandoshan worker say’s, “Lord Hydan, we have discovered more symbols. Symbols. Another word Campbell repeats to ne end. Sabine even say’s that the mural is a “language,” and calls the Father, Son and Daughter, “Archetypes”. It’s a language of “archetypes” and “symbols”. That’s Campbell. That’s the power of Myth, That much should be totally and completely clear by now! The Message Continues In Rebels, &The Sequel Trilogy So, even though the answers were there all along in symbol and metaphoric language, we now have more clarity on the Lothol Wolves, the Owl and Ahsoka. Ahsoka basically expresses that the Owl is another manifestion of The Daughter in who once helped her to survive. The Wolf is clarified as a manifestation in The Force of the “will” of Caleb “Kanan” Dume. Now that we know time is a circle, happening all at once, we see why Caleb Dume appeared to our characters even before Kanan had died! The Eternal Moment. This is great mind blowing stuff! Star Wars is so concisely expressing some of the heaviest concepts of spirituality and the universe. We see that dialogue has been obviously happening between Dave Filoni and the creators of the Sequel Trilogy. There are endless ties to cite that show this, like the Ying / Yan mural on Mortis to the one in the cave pool on Ahch-To, but I’ll stop there or this blog will go on forever. Dave Filoni is obviously Lucas’ Padawan with this stuff, for now I’ll just start with something Filoni said in the Rebels Recon episode on the season 4 episode ‘Jedi Night.’  "I could just see his (Kanan's) eyes, that's a moment where he could see here (Hera). In this moment, because he's in this point where he's this kind of energy, where he's about to die, where he's more one with everything than he's ever been, he'd have this moment of clarity, where things like physical sight just doesn't matter." Again, actual literal oneness between the physical and spiritual realm.  The title of Rebel episode ‘A World Between Worlds‘ is literally a riff on what Joseph Campbell repeatedly said is the great “deed” done by every hero in mythology, they return from their hero’s journey to show that “the two kingdoms are actually one.” Ezra has now returned from his bridge just in time for the series finale! We will see him return, like all heroes, to bring the treasure of “One final lesson” - to make his community one and whole again. The circle is now complete.

If you are intrigued by how modern spiritual teachers speak of this stuff, please check out the writings of Neale Donald Walsch, Eckhart Tolle and Wayne Dyer to name but a few. Try some of the great poets like Kahlil Gibran, or even a great speaker like Alan Watts. They are all saying the same thing.  But remember, these new teachers are only expanding on the core messages of the mystics through the ages, in all mythologies and spiritualties!
