dream first found out that he loved you when you were staying over for his face reveal stream.

you would reassure him that it would be okay, that it was all worth doing

he noticed the gentle look in your eyes when you made him feel better, forehead kisses when he was struggling to keep his nerves down

on the day of the face reveal, you were touching up his hair as he looked up at you

the focused look on your face as you tried to make this moment special for him made his heart swell with love.

“you nervous?” you ask him, eyes fixed on his hair.

“clay?” you say, being met with his silence

“i-im w-what? sorry?” he stammers, embarrassed.

“dont worry, im sure it’ll go just fine” you smile, rubbing his shoulder up and down.

as the stream started, you held his hand under the table; just out of frame.

no matter how important his face reveal was, the only think he could think about was you.

he was nervous, nervous about being in love with you though, not anything else

this was his big moment; why now?

as the stream came to an end, he quickly rushed to his room leaving you confused and worried.

“i think im in love with y/n.” he tells sapnap, watching his eyes go wide.

“y/n? like our y/n? the one whos in this house right now y/n?” sapnap says.

“yes that y/n, oh my god this is not good” dream whispers, running his hands through his hair in a panic.

“chill out dude its gonna be fine” sapnap says, standing up from his bed.

as the next few days past, dream used everything in him to avoid you.

he would give you short replies, and that is if they were extrememly necessary.

a quick “thank you” when you would hand him coffee, or a “goodnight” after being silent the whole day.

and by the 3rd day, you got so annoyed that you just had to let it all out.

“clay can you sit down for a second?” “sorry, i have to go d-“ “sit down, clay.”

he sat down nervously, faultering under your gaze

“why have you been ignoring me? like out of the blue you just- you just decide you hate me? is this because of the face reveal stream? what did i do wrong-” “you didnt do anything wrong, y/n. im in love with you.”

“what?” “can i kiss you?”

SAPNAP

sapnap first found out that he was in love with you the day karl started talking to you.

he couldnt help but clench his jaw, force his eyes away when you wrapped your arms around karl’s neck, giving him a tight hug

and the whole day he would subconsiously keep his hands on you

holding your waist when walking, shoulders when sitting, hands when you were talking to karl

“oh my god could you please let me go for one second i need to go to the bathroom” you finally say, fustrated

“what? oh sorry” he immediately pulled his hands away, for fucks sake, he wasnt even aware he was pulling at you everytime you took a step away from him

when you came back from the bathroom, his hands unknowingly reached out to hold you again, wrapping tightly around your shoulder

“whats up with you today? why’re you acting like this?” you ask, furrowing your eyebrows

“nothings wrong, y/n. just making sure i dont loose you, theres a lot of people here…includng karl” he mumbled the last part so quietly that you almost couldnt catch it

“karl?” you question, looking up at him

“what? no i didnt say anything.” sapnap replies, pulling you into another side of the room

“why arent you letting me talk to karl? you knew how i excited i was to meet him for the first time”

“jesus y/n, im not. im just making sure that youre safe, youve never even been to his place before.”

“i dont need you dragging me around like a puppy, i can handle myself. i just want to enjoy my time with karl”

“okay then fine! just leave me for karl.” he throws his hands up in the air, letting go of yours.

you turned to leave the room in irritation, letting out a sigh. why was he being so dramatic about this?

“i love you.” you hear from behind.

GEORGE

george first found out that he loved you when you had your first sleepover with him

from the moment you arrived at his house until when you fell asleep in his bed, he was getting used to a feeling that he had never felt for you before

at first he thought that it was the nerves, he had never spent the night with you and obviously he was bound to feel some kind of worry

but as time went by, he caught himself staring at you when you werent looking

like for example, he looked at the way your eyes would widen for a second when you found the lego piece you were looking for, or how the corners of your lips would curl up when you heard dream screaming something so loud through george’s headphones that you could hear him without them.

when he realized why he was feeling this way, he felt scared. there were so many things that came with being in love.

rejection, commitment, love, itself. like who even invited them!

you noticed how he had gotten quiet over the past few hours, not saying a word to you as a movie played in the background

“you all good george?” you ask, worried.

“yeah yeah im good.” he replies, not even looking towards your direction.

“you sure?”

“yes y/n, stop pushing it.” he spits out, coming out harsher than he intended

his gaze faultered as your face fell, looking down at your hands in embarrassment.

the awkward silence continued for a while, maybe too long even.

he would steal glances your way every once in a while, or reach his hands out for yours before retracting them the second after.

by the time george had thought of what to say, you’d fallen asleep next to him

his eyes softened as he looked over at you

grabbing a blanket, he gently placed it on you, making sure to cover your body

KARL

karl found out that he was in love with you when he first saw you.

you were working at a candle store, an apron on, welcoming customers that stopped by

as he saw your smile through the glass window, his feet dragged him into the store

you showed him around, laughing at his jokes that he himself knew were terrible.

he asked questions about each candle, only to spend more time with you

and as he said goodbye with 5 candles in hand, you gave him a wave off like every other customer

from that day on he frequently stopped by, checking if you were around.

and when you werent there in all of the times that he went, he grew fustrated

he probably meant nothing to you, just another customer that wanted to smell the candles that youve already shown 20 times today.

as he got impatient as the days passed, but he gave it one last try

and oh my god you were there!

his eyes lit up the moment he saw you from across the street, dusting some stupid shelf with the stupid smile of yours.

he walked in the store, going straight to you

“remember me?” he asked in a hurry.

“of course karl, how could i forget?” you welcome, giving him a warm side hug

“can i have your number? ive lost you too many times already”

and now you guys are dating, the “i love you’s” have been passed back and forth far too many times to count.

QUACKITY

quackity first found out that he was in love with you the day he saw you translating his spanish streams.

his eyes formed hearts as he snuck up behind you, looking at all the sentences you’d translated already

“what’re you doin?” he asks, giving you a kiss on the head

“jus’ translating your stream. i wanna know what youre saying” you reply, smiling to yourself

and as if he couldnt fall more, this made his heart beat out of his chest

“i can just tell you, you know?” he giggles.

“i prefer to to it myself, makes me feel proud” you answer, not looking up at him once.

he turned around for a second, looking up at the ceiling, scrunching his face up in adoration 

“god y/n i love you” he slips out.

“what?” you turn around wide eyed, looking up at him in surprise.

“oh shit-”

alright so i know i already made that post detailing foreshadowing with larrys design. but i would also like to have a new post going more into character design of him just because i find myself obsessed once more

so to start, larry is designed to be clearly reminiscent of a businessman/salaryman/etc. obviously this choice is to go with the normal type theming for his gym, because whats more normal than a plain old office worker? in addition, working for the league seems to be fairly normal, given the abundance of suited npcs scattered around paldea. his eyes have lines under it, and combined with his general personality, serve to portray him as somewhat tired despite his dedication

however, he has a few details that play into his actual elite four status. first and foremost is the cloudy tie. its blue with white clouds, resembling the sky. hes got a string of buttons on his cuff that seem to be similar to a feather, and two triangle details in his lapels that give them a vague wing appearance. additionally, the flyaway hairs on his head, along with the black bit that wont quite stay flat, help to make it feel like hes standing in wind with the air blowing his hair about. these flyaways also seem to resemble grey hairs, as if larry started going grey due to the fact that hes always working so much for his color scheme, hes overwhelmingly using black in both his clothes and his actual hair/eye color. black is the ‘typical’ color one might think of for a suit, even if it is not the only color they can be. dark hair and eyes are also extremely common traits with people, falling on more prominent genes compared to something like light eyes or hair. it fits well with the everyman concept, making him blend in more as just some worker. black is a color of formality, yet also mystery and power, which fit well with the suit and the fact hes a member of the elite four. grey fits with his dress shirt and the flyaway hairs on his head. its far more minor in use, and seems to be a bit blue. greys a neutral color that can seem dull, slotting in once again with that ‘boring guy’ vibe. though because of the blue tinge, it helps keep his over all palette more cool and match better with the sky blue tie. blue can be seen as a more calm and collected color, and personality wise larry is definitely one of the less energetic characters in the game

for shape language, larry seems to be built with a focus on squares. squares are a dependable shape, but can come off rigid and boring depending on their use. they have a sense of stability and strength, yet also clumsiness because they can seem a bit unnatural at times. larry as a character seems to be reliable for his job in a more roundabout sense; hes dedicated to it, but hes not known as the best worker, according to his pregym encounter description. hes the normal gym leader, so using a shape that can be ‘boring’ works well. in addition, larry also seems to stumble over when he throws his pokeballs, before jumping back into a more rigid standing position. there is the use of a few triangles in the design too, which are used with his hair especially. triangles can be used to suggest movement, which with how the hair is shaped, checks out. the lapels and collar of his shirt serve to frame his tie, and the smaller darker triangles further serve to point it out. theres a bit of circles used to help soften his design, although not many. hes rigid with his schedule, but not entirely inflexible

now for a more fun analysis of the design, i feel like some aspects can relate to his pokemon, either in a more obvious or more abstract way.

first up is his hair. larrys bottom flyaway strands seem to be similarly shaped to braviarys lowest head feathers, while the top feel more flowy like altarias. the sides of his hair give me the impression of the sides of tropiuss head in terms of placement, but the general concept of hair in front of more hair is reminiscent of braviarys feather crown in front of the plumage. staraptor is the only pokemon to have a feather hang downward in the middle of the head, matching the lower middle strand of grey hair.

now to the suit. his tie with clouds easily connects to altaria, who has a cloud for wings. however i believe this can be further stretched to komalas rounded tufts of fur, given their color and shape. flamigo and komalas nose/beak could be behind the rounded shape of the suits buttons. the triangular bits on staraptors tail feathers could be referenced in the lapels on the suit. oricorios head feathers are set in threes and rounded, just like the feather detail on the suit sleeves. dudunsparce has a general rectangular theming to it, which fits well with the rectangular pockets adorning the suit.

in fact, dudunsparce also has rectangular eyes, which fits with larrys quite well. komala has thick eyebrows, and while not exactly in the same shape as larrys, id say they seem to be about the same thickness for the widest section

the shoes are probably more of a stretch, but the very top rounded bit reminds me of the front toes on tropius color scheme wise, the blue grey of komala seems awfully close to the blue grey used in larrys hair and shirt. the blue of the tie also seems to match up more with the altaria. but that would be going strictly off of concept art, as his in game model renders these shades far differently

its actually kind of insane just how much you can pull from a character who seems incredibly simple on the surface design wise. some of these points are likely to be stretching it just a bit, but im definitely sure that this man was designed with a lot of intent and purpose given his role in the game and how hes shown off

Ghost

"It's definitely haunted."

When Cecily first mentioned a change in their accommodation during their first tour in America, Jimmy's traitor of a brain instantly began concocting worst-case scenarios. They were going to have to camp in the American wilderness with the bears, the cougars, and the coyotes. They were going to have to ask for shelter at a lonely homestead, as though they were simple gold prospectors in the 1800s seeking shelter. They were going to have to spend another night on that godforsaken tour bus with Rowans loud snoring and Listers incessant need to initiate games of “I spy” every three seconds.

His bandmates had tried reassuring him. There was no way Cecily would let them camp in the middle of the United States, and there was no way she would let them shack up with some random family. No, what was more likely was a change in hotel. Maybe even a switch of rooms. Maybe they’d have to share.

Rowan had been right, apparently. There was a change in hotel. And now, the creators of not two but three golden albums had to spend the night in a most definitely haunted hotel, 50 miles from the nearest town.

"It's not haunted.” Two heads turned to Lister as he spoke up. They had been standing in a row on the pavement, all three of them staring up at the building as though they were getting the perfect promo shot for an indie horror film. Lister bushed his sunglasses off of his nose and rested them on top of his head. There were little red indents where they had originally sat. “I don’t feel anything.”

“You don't feel anything?” Rowan had an eyebrow raised, his voice thick with scepticism. “And pray tell, what would you feel if it was haunted?”

“Oh easy.” Lister slung an arm around Rowan's shoulder. “My butt cheeks would start clenching.” Rowan shoved him off, making him bump into Jimmy, who was still gazing up at the building in front of them. There must have been genuine concern on his face as Listers farcing stopped. “Jimjam, seriously. Dont worry. It's just for one night. Then we are on our way to LA. Theres no haunted building in LA!"

"Actually," but Lister had already walked off, and towards the front door, Rowans comment ignored. The two remaining band members sighed and watched him go, Cecily following not far behind.

“You know, there's a way we could get him back for Peegate."

That caught Jimmy's attention, and he was finally looking away from the rafters. Peegate had happened two weeks prior, during their stop in Texas. Lister had hidden on the tour bus after a stop at a rest station and then texted Rowan, telling them they'd forgotten him while he’d gone into the petrol station to use the toilets. After what was most definitely an illegal U-turn by their driver and fifty frenzied calls to Lister's phone, he’d come out of hiding, all giggles.

So yes. Jimmy was more than happy to get back at him.

The interior wasn’t much better than the exterior of the building. Jimmy thought that it wouldn’t be out of place for a period drama to take place in the room he was supposed to be sleeping in.

There was an ensuite at least, but it was currently occupied by Lister, who had called dibs on the first shower. Jimmy had put up just enough of a fight for it to seem convincing before Lister disappeared behind the door and the spray of water could be heard.

With a text to Rowan to let him know, Jimmy only had to wait all of ten seconds before the bassist was tiptoeing into the room and shuffling under the bed. There was a muffled curse as he hit his head on the frame, but soon after he went quiet, and they both waited for the drummer to reappear.

As was expected, Lister was quick out. His was still dripping with water and his usual pale skin was tinted red from the scalding heat he enjoyed in the shower, but he was thankfully dressed. With a towel wrapped around his shoulders, he yawned loudly and shuffled over to the bed. He had two hands resting on the wood of the bedpost, leaning over to press a loud and exaggerated kiss to the crown of Jimmy's head.

“Bathrooms free, sweetheart—HOLY FUCK!” With a full-body jerk, Lister stumbled backwards. He was screeching incoherently, his right leg raised off the floor.

“Somethinggrabbedmesomethinggrabbedme!” He was pointing frantically under the bed. Jimmy couldn’t keep it in and keeled over laughing. He could hear Rowan laughing just as hard under the bed, and soon he was wriggling his way out. When his upper half was visible he laid on his back, arm over his flushed red face as he continued to cackle.

Jimmy could feel his breath start to catch and reminded himself to breathe in and out correctly, but the look on Listers face made it hard to do so. He looked a true mix of dumbfounded and enraged.

“You bastard!” He stomped his foot like a petulant toddler. One hand was placed on his chest, and he was breathing heavier than normal. "That's not funny, Rowan." But he couldn’t hide the slight twitch in his lips. “You're the worst. What if I'd been naked, huh?" This only served to make Rowan laugh harder.

He scooted the full way out from under the bed and flopped onto his back next to where Jimmy sat. He was starting to calm down now, a hand over his own heart like Listers had been. The blonde sighed and laid down next to him. Jimmy turned so that he was facing their faces again.

"That's what you get for the butt comment.” Jimmy poked Listers rib and earned a swat at his knee in return.

“And Peegate. Don't forget Peegate."

“Shut it, Omondi. Now spoon me as an apology.” After a few bickering comments back and forth, the tallest agreed and turned on his side to hug the drummer, who in turn held his arms out for Jimmy, who gladly accepted. They were on top of the covers still, but none of them seemed to care as they slotted together and fell asleep.

The next morning, they received their usual Poor Hotel Etiquette lecture from Cecily.

hi i want to talk about the shirogane siblings because i actually really like the way the series handles their dynamic especially for a series all about communication. enjoy my little infodump

miyuki’s abandonment issues with his mother are pretty much the main source of all his conflict in the series. according to him, his mom always wanted a smart kid and forced him into taking exams for prestigious elementary schools- which he always flunked. and he could feel his mother losing interest in him, meanwhile kei actually WAS the prodigy his mom was hoping for. when their mom eventually left their dad, she only took kei

we very rarely see their mom herself in the story, aside from one brief flashback, so its hard to tell how much of this mentality she really harbored vs how much was miyuki projecting his insecurities. and kei hardly talks about her mother at all- but, then, why has kei been living with miyuki and their dad since her introduction? this is the first time the fact that her mom took her was even mentioned! so why did kei come back? well, in her own words

she didn’t come back. she ran away. she sees living with her father and brother as an escape from her mother. was she outright abusive? or maybe just too overbearing? its hard to say, but it’s somewhat telling that this conversation is going on with kaguya, who DOES come from an abusive household. and even though kaguya doesn’t remember it, she was the one who gave kei the courage to run away to begin with (which made kei fall in love with her). so there are some parallels being drawn to kaguya’s excessively strict upbringing, at least. and then theres the fact that miyuki and kei’s reactions to their dad bringing up their mom was this:

so then you have these two estranged siblings being reunited and living under the same roof after years apart. one of them has abandonment issues which have forced him to put on a facade of perfection, and the other just came out of a homelife which she felt was suffocating because she was expected to be perfect. so what does this lead to?

miscommunication! surprisingly, miyuki didn’t end up resenting kei at all, which is a nice change of pace for how these things usually go. after his mom left, he ended up becoming the one who takes care of the house, even being the main breadwinner, all in his strive to be a good kid and also keep his family afloat. he doesn’t want to lose any more family, he has to be good. when kei came back he seems to have very quickly taken up a more parental role in her life. and kei hates it! 

her behavior towards miyuki is translated as being her “rebellious teenage phase” which isn’t usually something that relates to your sibling but rather your parents. but it goes beyond just “he nags her so she’s annoyed by him.” miyuki literally acts like a stereotypical overbearing mother to her. of COURSE she hates being treated like that, it reminds her of their actual mother. but miyuki’s overprotection for kei is born out of genuine care and concern- miyuki knows their mother, he knows kei was going through a hard time with her (whatever that entails) and he seems like he just wants to make sure his little sister is in a better place now.

(look at this picture- their mom is grabbing kei by the wrist. kei isnt holding her hand and walking with her, shes being dragged away from her brother)

they’re just not used to each other! they’re siblings, yes, but they haven’t lived together for years! miyuki doesnt realize his actions are having the opposite effect on her than his intents. a microcosm of their miscommunication is kei’s birthday; kei is aware that money is incredibly tight around the house and doesnt want anything for her birthday, but every year miyuki slips 1000 yen into her wallet anyway, and then feigns ignorance. which is incredibly sweet, but kei doesn’t understand why he would do this, and thinks hes just lying about things for no reason. his incredibly pure gesture just leaves her paranoid, it makes her frustrated with him because hes going behind her back. 

thats the issue! theyre not talking to each other! they both really do care about each other but they’re not talking. miyuki either nags his sister or does nice things behind her back, which she cant wrap her brain around. and kei either ignores her brother or hides behind a facade of harshness just to hide the fact that she cares about him, because that would be embarrassing to her in her “rebellious teenage phase.” and related to that, kei’s advice to miyuki regarding communication and “like-avoidance” was that kaguya may just be avoiding him because she’s embarrassed or afraid but..

she was also talking about herself. now, obviously this takes on a totally different context for kei and kaguya’s respective dynamics with miyuki, luckily the series doesnt do one of those weird “implied brother complex” things (and kei is a lesbian anyway). but beyond highlighting kei’s desire to be closer with her brother despite her embarrassment, its also another kaguya parallel! it could suggest that her fear around growing close to people and showing vulnerability comes from a similar place, beyond typical teenage embarrassment. just like her brother, she’s hiding behind a mask

kaguya-sama is a series about communication and vulnerability, ALL the characters are wearing masks all the time, because theyre all afraid of showing their true selves to other people. and sometimes this includes their family, because family can hurt you too. miyuki has to wear the mask of a perfect honor student because he’s afraid that, just like his mom, people will reject him if they find out that he’s not “actually” a genius (which is total impostor syndrome). and an extension of this is how at home he has to play the role of a pseudo-parent, and try to keep everyone together. kei wears the mask of a harsh and rebellious younger sister, because shes afraid of people seeing her weaknesses. shes not comfortable with that vulnerability. and she cant have an honest conversation with her brother about it because his strict and “motherly” treatment of her hits too close to home and makes her keep her distance. 

but at the end of the day they’re still siblings and they still care about each other. maybe they’re bad at talking about their issues, so they just end up annoying each other, or maybe they don’t really understand exactly WHY these things annoy them so much. despite that family drama, it doesn’t come off as TOO dramatic, its still a comedy series. the majority of their interactions are presented fairly casually, stuff like kei forcing her brother to read a manga that she liked and betting he would cry, or making fun of his terrible fashion choices- normal teenage sibling shit.

but in his defense, he was too busy trying to take care of their family and keep his grades up. he actually became MORE frugal when kei moved in because, in his own words, he wanted her to “have the freedom to be fashionable”. but kei wanted her brother to be able to have some normal teenage clothes too. it turns out she actually kept all the gift money he’s been giving her, and she used it to help him buy some new clothes.

its the perfect middle ground for them. miyuki teaches kei that it’s okay to let yourself be taken care of, and that sometimes people really do have your best interest at heart. and kei shows miyuki that he doesn’t have to play the role of a parent while he’s still just a teen himself. especially now that their dad has become a famous twitch streamer because this series is fucking insane, but im writing paragraphs abt it so i guess im insane too.

first off, the centerpiece of the whole room, the media center. they dont all get to gather in the a/v room like last year so they get this.

behind the projector is a patchwork sofa chair in the 'leaves' colorway, which combines with the loveseat, the cushion, and the barstool to form the seating arrangements. its not actually a hard and fast arrangement, chiaki radiates heat which kanata can only stand for so long, so he'll switch with one of the juniors or just kick chiaki off the couch entirely if feeling particularly puckish.

also visible here is the sushi on the kitchenette, the fries and basil-y tomato-y pizza margherita on the coffee table, and the "galbi" (carpaccio di marlin blu) and "hyorogan" (coconut cookies, i couldnt find anything that looked like shinobus actual favorite food, umeboshi. i think if i had cherry jam? closest legal relative, but still more of a stretch than the coconut cookie-hyorogan stretch. like, hyorogan does actually look like that.)

also the middle thing on the wall there is a switch lite, because im not sure how much of a gamer shinobu is but i know he was really excited when he learned hasumi-dono knew about p*kemon....

midori! this is an awkward photo. i dont actually very much sanrio furniture despite having the cards, otherwise i wouldve used it more here, im too lazy to scan them in. otherwise the posters of the sanrio villagers would be on the wall next to jack, who stands at the precipice of midori's chill out zone to scare off chiaki, which otherwise contains nothing but plushies, a futon to take a depression nap on, and a tv to secretly enjoy things on (which is apple shaped because midori is the produce boy).

see, this is a much larger space, i couldve used fewer tiles, but because i wasnt trying to replicate a set like i was for the crazy anthem one, i was actually minding the doors and windows of the space.

ok so the. the cross-stitch. ok. i thought there was like a folding fan or some framed embroidery or something, but there is NOT, so. tetora's prized gift from his beloved taishou is. cross stitch (cock (manly)).

this is another area which is mostly self-explanatory. the thing next to the basketball is a pile of model kits, no idea if chiaki actually does those, but it is more toku merch, so.

the picture frame in the shelves is a customizable thing and i didnt vibe with any of the options so thats a. custom design i made to spice up my beaches. its transparent, so. lets just call it a shadow box displaying a shell chiaki recieved as a gift or something.

also theyre like switching leaders every project now but you see that stack of papers? you know whos probably doing like, the most of the paperwork. probably wont even let anyone else do it even if they ask. what paperwork. theres barely any paperwork theres no paperwork what are you talking about.

Okay so base worm (not counting the additions by weaver dice) has like, one of the best setups for powers in all fiction in my fucking view so listen up cuz we gunna learn some shit.

So my view on powers is simple - powers are at their best when they inform and are informed by the character. To put it another way, its good when you can be told "Taylor Hebert has bug powers" and you can go "Ah yes, this is because she feels small and insignificant like a bug"

Not all stories do this well, for instance certain magic stories where everyone can learn the same set of spells. The only thing I can learn about a character is they choose to learn this specific spell. Which tends to not mean much when like, so did 90% of the other characters.

Up from that is Naruto, again technically you could learn every technique, but doing so is framed very differently, as something that is neigh impossible. Unfortunately Naruto fumbles the ball hard here and in practice you'll never see two people using the same power unless theres a direct connection. Still it has good potential for stories of "Why did you choose to learn this specific jutsu" like Naruto learning shadow clones so he can never be lonely, and sure thats revisionist as fuck, but it works.

Slightly higher up from that are "regional powers" shit like avatar the last airbender. If I see someone fire bending I can know something about them, but not much more than I could get from a GPS location or family tree. Avatar does specifically do this better through with many characters learning how to do specific things with their bending that can inform character motives. (See Toph learning to metal bend cuz she doesn't care what the universe thinks is impossible)

Then we have like, 90% of superhero stories. Ironman made weapons? his power is fundamentally just a really good weapon, spiderman gets bit by a spider, spider powers. flash gets hit by lightning, can move as fast as lightning. However I have to cherry pick examples because there's just as many who have their powers through random chance to no impact at all. Still it would make a good base for a system if you wanted to expand on it. Worm expands on it. Every single character* went through immense torment and came out on the other side with powers that will forever remind them of it. We don't know all of the trauma, but its consistant enough to let us make guesses about it, even if its not always right. This does a great job of informing us as to who the character is from the power, and an alright job of informing us as to what the power is from the character. Theres one I like more than worm though.

Fuck yeah HunterXHunter. To start out with its nothing special, nen is a great base but if it was just nen I'd have this at the bottom of the list. Hatsu however goes "what if your power system had a power system." And its brilliant because everyone can use the aspects of nen in different ways, so when your main power system is build off using another power system however the character wants, we get to find out shit about the character by what power they develop. This goes from little things like "gon is a kid and choose a kids game for his power" to "this person made a fundamentally poor choice for their power because its just not well suited to them and are suffering because of it even as they try to push through." You can know something about a character by the way they design their power because its FULL of character choices.

Why I like them- Ok so this is a Whole Thing with me. Reigen on his own isn’t my favorite character (still a great character though, I don’t have a single favorite for mp100 I love them ALLLLL) but looking at his bonds with others as a whole makes him SO much fun to analyze. It’s the effect he has on others that I find so interesting about him and why I make so much Reigen content, ESPECIALLY WITH MOB!! They’re so family. They’re SO family oh my god.

Crosshair would normally say he’d punish you for it, but then again that sort of teasing is half the reason he’s bent over like this in the first place.

And for awhile now too, enough so that he almost feels like he’s loosing a bit of the venom that’s usually coating his tongue.

a meandering talk about tart and "fray"

disclaimer that im talking abt half remembered events and quests bc i havent replayed any of them. were playing fast and loose here lol

because she woke up after the calamity w amnesia tart has an odd sense of what she is and isnt capable of. some things shes totally clueless abt but others she tries and is like oh huh i sort of know how to do this already. like carpentry, and combat

her mental process tends to go "idk if i can do this" (gets into a situation) "OH I TOTALLY CAN LETS GO" (gets overwhelmed) "shit shit shit gotta run". bc her knowledge base is limited and she works mostly off of feelings she gets into bad spots a lot www

so tart is sorta both recklessly brave and a coward. and also a dumbass who thinks if she runs she can probably escape (nope lmao) well it gets her beat up a lot but shes ok w it

tart goes into fighting arr primals w this reckless mindset and so far has been strong enough to come out on top. she wants more so she goes to gridania and hears about a mysterious primal that appears on occasion. goes "awesome gotta kill that guy" and challenges it to a fight

this is odin, and odin is way, way more than she bargained for (ooc: this is an extreme level fight that is labeled as normal, i was clueless and went into this w minimal information and got my ass fucking stomped)

as per habit tart wants to run. except. shes here w a padjal (basically children blessed by the forest elemental spirits) and only a handful of guards. tart is the only one who can fight a primal, everyone else would get corrupted and die. theres no way she can run, and for the first time shes terrified out of her mind

and gets killed by odins final "zantetsuken"

the primal disappears (defeated?) fortunately the padjal is able to beg the elementals to save tart, so shes not dead, just with a deep scar where she was cut from shoulder to chest. but something did get killed there.. her desire to run from danger

it doesnt die instantly either, much like tart herself. it takes until she gets framed for the murder of ul'dahs sultana, and she and the scions of the seventh dawn have to escape arrest. the rest of the scions sacrifice themselves for their leader minfilia and tart to escape. at the last moment minfilia stays behind and urges tart to go ahead, escape to ishgard where she would be safe

for a moment tart feels so relieved and takes the offer. but in safety the realization of what shes done hits like a truck. she vows to never, ever allow herself to run and leave someone else to die again. plant your feet on the ground, keep yourself chained in battle, and you do not die. (this is holmgang, the warrior skill that makes you unable to die for 10 seconds. i changed it to target self instead of chaining an enemy at the beginning of heavensward.. i had wanted to not do it but decided it worked as part of tarts story. incidentally i might have forgotten to use holmgang at all in the odin fight... lol)

so. thats good right! throughout heavensward the primals that the warrior of light has to fight ramp up in power. even her allies start to worry, especially alphinaud, but tart doesnt care. without the fear, primal battles are just fun. she fearlessly takes them on!

this is a great thing, right? its character development. though someone disagrees: tart herself

you cant really kill a desire, can you? you can repress it of course, and its easy to repress a desire when its been cut off from your heart. but its still there: the desire to run. to not be in danger. to be safe and unhurt and alive. it lives on, though separated by odins blade. it does not accept how tart has chosen to throw herself into mortal peril over and over. for what? for the ishgard that never accepted her? for the eorzea that took her heroism when its good for them and then threw her out like yesterdays garbage? why be a hero when it either gets you killed or taken advantage of? it was better before the calamity, when her parents were there and they still called the vigil home. if only we could repel those damned ishgardians and take back the vigil... if only theres a way to stop tart from her foolish heroism...

and so we arrive to fray. fray myste was a dark knight, someone working in the shadows of ishgardian society to protect the weak. it led him to be accused of heresy by the church and put into a trial by combat, the (unfair) result of which was his death. frays body was left to rot along the walls of the slums. ...and that is where the repressed desire of tarts heart finds itself a convenient vessel, becoming "fray"

frays dark knight crystal gives "fray" the ability to use dark magic, which they use to entice tart to interact w them. fray will teach her how to be a dark knight. tart agrees, and in learning the dark arts its not just tart who becomes more powerful, but fray too. bc tart has stopped just repressing fray outright and denying them completely, it gives fray the power to grow beyond what it is

at first fray hopes that tart would listen and stop this "heroism" madness. but the events of heavensward leaves tart w a certainty: she cant call coerthas home. shes a different person from who she was before losing her memories. now she is the warrior of light. thats all she can be. fray rejects this and attempts a hostile takeover of a fort in coerthas--since the vigils are gone, home is in ruins, then whitebrim front is the closest thing and fray will take it

they fail. defeated by tart. fray laments their fate but goes willingly back into her heart. only wanting to be heard as the feelings of love that they are

and so ends the tale of fray for now. i say that because. uhh. tart never does listen and only gets worse in the next expansions. heroism will only consume her further ...sorry fray.... u_u

then there is myste. or is there myste? myste is an orphan boy with a strange ability: he can manifest memories into almost-real people. he powers this ability with tarts dark knight crystal, by accident, and so shes roped into helping him out (with our other dark knight friends sid and rielle. theyre great, i just dont have anything to say abt them really)

similar to fray, myste is a manifestation of the warrior of lights broken heart.. this time their guilt and regrets. theyve saved the world and many people in it, but along the way theyve killed others and failed to save even more. thats why hes shaped like both haurchefant and ysayle.. friends who saved us for the price of their own lives. myste wants everyone to have another chance to live. he wants the dead to pass on peacefully, and the living to be unburdened by grief. myste wants to be forgiven for what hes done

now uh. i unfortunately have to tell you that tart has none of that shit. the vigils, dawn and dusk especially, were the first line of defense in ishgards war against dragons. tart was raised surrounded by death. its just a part of life, dying and killing. were all beasts getting slaughtered in the end. no need to feel guilty over upholding your survival above everyone else

its not impossible that tarts guilty conscience would break off and manifest as a boy, like fray, but the thing is the self-love and self-preservation that fray represents was a part of tart as a character, part of how i played her back in the beginning of the game. while guilt and regrets... not really. tart is stupid and easygoing but more importantly shes callous when it comes to "doing the right thing". anythings justifiable if its for the right thing. conscience isnt something she denies she just doesnt have one. lol

also the cardinal virtues former warriors of light of the first work way better for her to explore regrets and living at the cost of other peoples lives

Oooh this will be a long one! I am still working on refining Beau so this won't be entirely set in stone for her.

Donovan would be considered Chaotic Neutral I'd say and as for his backstory. Im going to sum it up as best I can but theres a lot lol:

Donnie was born in Vault 101 and is younger than the cannon player character. His life wasn't amazing in there. A bit neglected by his parents who treated his younger sister like an absolute perfect blessing. He was a big scapegoat for almost everyone there. Getting the blame for so many things. It was east with how quite and awkward he was. He never really fought back. There were people who were on his side but the ones who weren't felt louder to him. He had particular disdain for Butch and the cannon PC. James and kid left the vault when Donovan was 15 and in the chaos he snuck out behind them. Looking for a better life than the one he had.

Immidiate regret on that. He found the Wasteland terrifying, hostile and cruel but he managed to make a few friends in Megaton and beyond. One being Moira as they worked on the Wasteland Survival Guide. Things were hard at first. He was afraid of everything, not very strong, lost a couple fingers and struggled a lot. But as time went on, he got stronger, taller and harder to kill abd developed a wild amount of skill with almost any gun he got his hands on. He was still afraid but he had more control. He also made some mistakes. And the cannon PC also got into some absolute bullshit that he pinned on Donovan. Being blamed for both their wrong doings earned him a real bad reputation in the Capital Wasteland. While he wasnt the most moral person around he wasnt full on evil either. He does genuinely care about people. But being labeled brutal, a monster, vicious. Every word they could come up with left him feeling bitter and as hostile to them as they were to him. His general demeanor, general expression and awkwardness didn't help at all. Just made it worse really. He's hard to read and comes across as rude without meaning to.

So he left the Capital Wastes at 34 with his reputation in unsalvageable shambles and made for the Commonwealth after Maccready (one of his few friends). He met Beau in Nuka World on his way there. Helped her clear out the Raiders then followed her to Sanctuary and eventually Diamond City where he settled nearby, got back to mercenary work and earned a far better reputation with friends to boot.

Now as for Beau. I'd consider her to be Neutral Good I think. As for her story. It's still a WIP but here's what I have so far:

Beau was and is a robotics and power armour enthusiast. Even before the war. She always loves tinkering, building and just making the coolest stuff she could. When she met Nate she was happy to settle down though she was plotting out where she could fit a workshop in their home and saving up to get her own Power Armour frame. She was happy to have Shaun and nestle in in Sanctuary until the bombs.

She hadn't trusted the Vault Tec lads from the beginning but didn't see much of a choice. When she woke to a dead husband and missing baby after being frozen, she didn't know what to do. She was scared, alone and confused. But after a couple aimless days she found her resolve. She moved out, helped Preston and reformed the Minute Men. Vowing to wear a suit of power armour with pride and protect everyone she could. Making the Commonwealth safe for her baby when she found him.

This is all I have so far but I'll give her more as time goes on 👍

Im semi excited for the full Balders Gate 3 release in a month. I have no issue with the divinity style even if some aspects of it, such as the little amount of interesting stuff that comes from leveling up, arent the most exciting. My major concern is the performance side of things. First couple of hours I was fine, able to explore the beginning of the area with a constant 60 fps. Then it just kept dipping and dipping as I played, until I basically got to the end of the ea content barely able to keep a stable 30. With that teaser video they did of the actual Balders Gate city supposedly being massive and detailed, im worried that my computer wont be able to run it at all, let alone at a non eye straining frame rate. We'll see though I guess.

Minor complaints underneath

TLDR: Wish this game looked shittier but played better. I couldnt give two shits how realistic the models or environment if it was just really well tuned. Probably gonna be one of those "Devs bit off more than they could chew" situations that Ill end up getting angry at around the second half, finish, and never play again.

-Ive always hated the spellcasting system of most tabletops. Cast a spell and its gone, if it missed or failed then sucks to be you. Its not a fun idea, and I wish most of the spells were simply made weaker or placed on a cooldown rather than limited. That was what was cool about divinity, if you figured out some really cool combos then you wouldnt have to resort to resting every couple fights just to use them again. Sucks, especially since most stuff is subject to roll rng, so your big lv 3 spellslot ability means nothing cause dipshit beat the dc by chance. Even worse when alot of spells are channeled, so if your character gets hit even once and then proceeds to fail the concentration check the spell fizzles out. Lame shit.

-THE CAMERA. The camera is atrocious, and I dont know what they did differently compared to Divinity 2, but it is a nightmare to control. If you pan too far from your character theres this, like, invisible leash that sudden kills any further movement. It also hates and form of horizontal movement, which means if your character is really high up it wont go down, and if youre trying to look up a cliff it'll just rub the wall.

-The cast is underwhelming. You have a githyanki which is neat, but otherwise its literally two human guys, a half elf, and a vampire elf. Theres not a single dwarf, halfing, gnome, or even a tiefling in the party, which is super lame. They could have easily had a dwarf with the weird magical item hunger problem, or a tiefling vampire wouldve been funny as hell.

-While the variety of extra actions are cool (I cant count how many people Ive killed by shoving them off cliffs or into lava) but theyre really clunky. The environment has so much detail that shoving or shooting in a direction is at massive risk of being just caught on some stray rock or pillar.

-The AI for npcs is still as dumb as it used to be, had a slave get mad at me for shoving its captor into lava. Guys that have never pathed will suddenly turn around out of the blue, even had one person just t-pose and vanish.

-Most of the magical equipment I got wasnt very interesting. Even the adamantite stuff I got after the big fight in the forge was just a debuff on hit. I want silly shit, I want game breaking shit, I want more stuff like those weird tentacle grenades that pull people in.

-Very buggy, and with how big theyre saying the game is gonna be I dont think its any better on release, probably worse actually. I wouldnt have such issues with it if reloading the game didnt take thirty years to complete. Poor Shadowheart made a jump only to glitch out and plummet several stories mid way.

Honestly though back on track to the story, when Blitzo proposed the idea of a treasure hunt game where they basically steal stuff- i was honestly fearing that something bad was going to happen. but i guess it didnt because whats a few riches compared to your son being out of your way for a day? haha. his dad is a bitch and im so fucking glad Stolas grew up to be better.

Can I mention though that Blitzo's dad just guilt tripping him and shit to steal it even though he's scared of getting caught just for the sake of them being able to do well better. From what I've seen I think it's good enough as it is and I feel like he was just being fuckin greedy.

Also I hate Stella- i don't even think I need to say why. It's clear isn't it? AND EVEN WHEN YOU REALIZE THATS HOW ITS BEEN--

okay so randdommm thoughts dump time

FIRSTLY: there's some odd moments, huh, where its like. its never HORRIFIC but the "gore" for lack of a better term really pushes whatever the rating is on this show, LOL.... like the hand melting scene in last ep? & crichtons head freaking exploding in outer space in this ep? yeessshhh....

also also also. i see that this ep im on rn (dream a little dream) isnt a zhaan ep but as an aside. its sooo strange bc i love zhaan as a character but SIGHHHH. i noticed that zhaan-focussed eps, thus far, fall sooo flat and thats such a freaking shame!! i feel like they sorta dont know how to deal with her as the focus and they go too hard in the wrong direction. but anyways

and also they do make some odd decisions with her otherwise, even still. not ones im wholly against but... i feel like they sometimes dont pull them off well. and i say that bc usually its, like, with her - whereas with everyone else, i feel like they consistently nail and get right, even if the episode is weaker. its odd. maybe im just misreading her sometimes, or what. but again its a shame bc i rlly like her. and they do do GOOD stuff with her too, ofc- i love the subtleties they pull off with her sometimes- but sometimes im like man what like...

although that being said ido like that this ep did take the time to kinda. explore exactly what she went through in that interim period between s1 and s2 and i DO think, saving it for now, rather than doing it right at the beginning was the right choice. her being imprisoned and put to execution makes her state a lot more understandable. though i willsay- kinda obvious how like.... they were SCRAPING for a way to put this in here lol. its kind of weird to frame it with the nightmare thing but eh its functional and her talk with crichton is nice enough

ALSO i actually reallylove chiana and rygels dynamic and i DID enjoy seeing them in this ep, and i did enjoy bits of this ep BUT theresother aspects.... MY BRAIN is failingtonight so im struggling to put it into words. like a lot of this, like quite a few s2 eps, didnt quite work out for me...

i think courtroom episodes in scifi shows can be cool when theyre done right and cleverly, and really do explore themes of morality, but i cant really say that of this episode. i think chiana and rygel do make a good team but a lot of it is a bit weird and not in the fun goofy farscape weird but like just kinda like... pulled out your ass, weird? like the stick thing and stuff. i think they should have pushed some parts a lot more than they did, and focussed on the wrong bits elsewhere- but even then, i still dont know, bc...

i feel like this episode sort of lost its point in general bc im skimming through trivia on it and it looks like this script was kinda moved about a bit and that shows and thats a shame bc i think. like when this STARTED i assumed it would be a zhaan ep and i think that it really... should have been? like-

DONT GET ME WRONG like i said it was fun and i liked the rygel and chiana dynamic. i think: a) rygel and chiana are alone and have to work together without the team; b) rygel and chiana have to play lawyers and cant use their usual skillet... is a solid story BUT wlike i dont know like. i feel like if youre going to flashback like this and have zhaan introduce and conclude the episode it would have worked better as an exploration of her, and for it to be her narrative rather than that. and then i think that would work better if we focussed more on the injustices of the planet rather than, like, courtroom drama bc they also lost sight of those, too, ro at least they werent rlly developed fully either . i think those two themes would have been stronger to go into for this setup and rygel and chiana antics tabled for another time

anwyays its funny i said so much here bc it didnt feel like that much. i also totally blanked out on last ep too i feel like that... AGAIN. THERES SOMETHING WITH S2 WHERE ITS LIKE- i cant tell if the end of s1 just raised such a bar for me, but the mediocre reallyyyy feels mediocre . I DONT MEAN ITS LIKE BAD BAD and im for sure still excited and continuing with the show BUT YKNOW. i get it man all showshave a bit like this LOL

Yeah! In the end WoLs are very personal to the players so I try to remember and not to be too judgey about it! And yeah there are some WoLs I really love as well! And my own was originally just a vague self insert with the name of an old OC and then they took a life of their own so I renamed them .. xD

Regarding wishing there was more freedom in choices in 14: I think that as an MMO there are just some limitations people just have to accept. The msq is linear for sure though I don't know if that's just because 1) it's Final Fantasy first and foremost, 2) it's a jrpg first and foremost (different game design philosophy between JP and US?) You certainly can't have multiple outcomes, I think, especially not with 14's infamous spaghetti coding. And the team already have so many tasks... (reason why I'm just rolling with the gender unlocking of certain glams being slow)

Though, I've never played an MMO prior to this, and most western RPGs don't interest me. So my lack of frame of reference is probably another reason why I can't really fathom choice freedom similar to, say, Dragon Age, in an MMO in general, esp not one as linear as 14 ... poyo.

(I could do with more fiddling around with GW2 tho, I do enjoy it whenever I boot it up for fun)

and for sure. I'm really mostly okay with xiv's linearity and rigidity; I think they wanted to tell a certain story and told it. I actually dunno if that's a western/eastern design philosophy and don't think choice/branching narratives is necessarily not a jrpg element but the concept of it with games like for sure DA or UT or even older text rpgs whatever have really popularized it here yeah. in xiv theres obviously some parts where im like He would naht do/say that. or some parts I wish weren't in the msq at all. but for the most part I'm glad things turned out the way they did and I've never struggled too hard to work with it. i think it'd sit wrong with me if the story went another way, if the wol like, just said I don't owe anyone anything and everyone shouldnt ask a thing of me and ran forever.

but that's mostly because I fell hook line and sinker for the world so when anyone in the story is like do you want to keep going and keep this world alive I'm like of fucking course AND it's going to be fun you don't even need to ASK bro. while for others I do understand the sort of disappointment that comes with thinking this could have gone another way that they would have liked better, but the devs chose this way, so they feel like they were robbed of that different outcome. and to me they chose this one because they wanted to tell a story about caring about others and finding hope in others and struggling together towards a better future in a world that is largely hostile to that, that constantly gravitates towards its doom, and I really like that. I like how it reflects in their own dev experience having to reboot the game too! but some people feels like it rings hollow, or they don't really care for that sort of thing, or this spirit just doesnt reach them, and well...wat can you do.

and you're definitely right in that mmos simply cant handle diversity of choice in a game meant to support..well..massively multiplayer online play. at most you get factions which are notoriously clunky and seem to only function in games without a strong central narrative. if 50% of the playerbase said fuck off to minfilia, fuck off hydaelyn, you can't tell me what to do, and went to live a low-stakes life then. that's 50% of the playerbase that needs something other than all the dungeons, trials, deliveries, sidequests, raids, pretty much fucking everything to do, that aren't gonna be a part of the roulette. and they wouldn't have been able to pull off the concept of azem's magic either, the weird living idea that as players of the same character you all walk the same path and thus are always at each other's side. or the funnier route would be well everyone who wanted to play gets the kino ass "shepherd to the stars in the dark" shit and everyone who didnt to play can just sit on their hands I guess.

but i dont think people actually expect it to have branching paths, they just wanted the devs to choose a different one. but there's so many good and fun things throughout the entirety of the game that it'd honestly feel pretty lonely to lose all of this over a nebulous refusal to owe anyone anything and be owed anything, because the wol does go through some painful stuff and has some high expectations placed on them...AS IFFFF everyone in the story doesnt suffer and struggle against the same things while the wol has the privilege of controlling more of their luck, AS IFFFFFFFFFF choosing a path where you say fuck everyone else wouldn't have been empty and boring. as if the antagonists that apparently care about us more don't have wishes and goals and duties and lives of their own and are only made to love you in some made up but easier, purer, assured way.

and oh hee hee gw2...I saw a golden chicken in that game and logged off forever I was like this is it. but I'm playing gw1 (slowly) with friends and while it's still campaigns it definitely does excel in that look at this big ass world go do what you want thing. and yeah mmos are fucking...expensive and terribly difficult to make and keep alive. there's a reason they're just dying out
