ive been enabled so let me share some of my thoughts on how to get ur art noticed online

if u want Engagement on ur posts then i believe that its critical to make people care about ur art. the easiest way to do this is to appeal to something they already care about, like fandom, aesthetics/subculture, current events, having fun (people love humor!). a harder but perhaps more fulfilling route is to talk about ur own ocs and projects enough until people start caring about them too

theres an infinite amount of topics people care about out there so id suggest picking something u already care about urself and channel ur art energy there. trying to make art for the most popular things out there regardless own interests is an exercise in misery, id advise against it..! if im allowed to get superstitious for a moment, i do believe that even untrained eyes can tell whether a piece of art was fun to work on or a chore. and besides! if ur having fun then its easier to create more, and the more u create the more chances ull have at getting lucky and having a post seen :)

on a very related note, art is a way to communicate ideas so the quality of the idea being presented in a piece of art is paramount to how popular a post will be. what i mean by this is that technical skill isnt the primary determinant of a posts popularity. if all your posts are portraits of original characters then people will have a hard time connecting with your posts and theyll keep scrolling, even if those portraits are masterpieces! the major exception to this is probably other artists, who ive found usually have a greater appreciation for the technical side of art (we can only speculate as to why..!)

lemme finish by saying that making popular posts and being good at art are two entirely different skillsets, ive seen many incredibly skilled artists with jack shit for notes because they dont give people a reason to care about their stuff NOT TO MENTION its a huge game of luck whether a post will get seen. so dont go insane in pursuit of recognition!

(i dont want to make this post too long so ive included examples from my own art and their note counts with my analysis after the break)

hello and welcome to the extracurricular segment to this post :) i bring yall two pieces from my art blog @werewolf-artfriend:

here we have a portrait of my fursona that im still proud of and a sketch suggesting "what if sniffers (from minecraft) were the size of mountains?" (let it be noted that the sniffer sketch was posted right during the minecraft mob vote = peak interest in the subject of sniffers).

the portrait at the time of writing has a crisp 30 notes, whilst the sniffer sketch has over 2000 notes. from the same artist, on the same blog, posted only a few months apart. i believe this is a good example both of the power of a piece of art having an interesting idea at its core AND of a piece appealing to the interests of the masses

this is of course just two convenient example posts, but i have experienced fan art of popular topics getting thousands of notes a couple of times now, amidst my other furry shit that these days get around 200-300 notes in comparison

this may sound like a really long winded way of saying "fan art make the world go round" but i just want to point out the nuances that

1) it matters what u make fan art of: if a fandom is small or dormant (waiting on new canon content for example) then clearly less people will be excited about the fan art you make. dont expect 10k notes on ur post if the average recent post in the fandom gets around 200 etc etc

2) it doesnt have to be fan art! ive also had some of my bird art get thousands of notes because people simply like birds :) and this applies to ANY topic people care about! the world rly is your oyster on this one

anyway i think ive started rambling dhgdjhgd thanks if u read this far! i hope i got my point across! and if ur feeling down about ur art not being seen then just keep at it okay! keep creating and keep having fun! keep sharing ur ideas and perspectives with the world and ur audience will eventually find u! i love you!

☆ Redesign Time/Have Tea With Me: The Black Characters of Hazbin Hotel, The Radio Demon ☆

Note: Okay I kinda feel like a cheat because it isn't a whole redesign, it's just two sketchy headshots. Sorry it's not a full design. Sorry also it isn't my Stolitz Rewrite... but I have 10 followers now!! I know that's not alot but hey, it means people actually WANT to read these blogs and see my art. I'll take it!!)

Ahoy Matey's!! So there has been two controversies going on withing the Hazbin Hotel fandom. 1 has been long term while the other is semi recent.

Have tea with me while we talk about it 🫖🍵:

1. The black/people of color don't have any features of their race.

2. Alastor's voodoo symbols.

I will not be talking about Alastor's voodoo. I am a white boy and I am not educated enough to talk about Voodoo. What I'm here to talk about is that none of the poc look like poc. Let's play another game. What is the race of these characters:

Have your guess? Their black. Sera is black, Velvette is black, and Alastor is Creole. All are black and or mixed and none of them have any ethnic features. All of them are gray. (I'm just saying it's sad when me, a white boy that has 2c/3a hair, has curlier hair then people with textured hair.)

(Also, Alastor, who is not a good guy but is the good guy team, is light gray. Velvette, who is on the villains side, is dark gray. I'm not accusing Viv of being racist but I find it weird.)

The problem is so easy to fix. GIVE THEM ETHNIC FEATURES!! ITS SO EASY!! No one's expecting you to draw every individual braid or dreadlock but oh my god!! Give them textured hair! Or I don't know, NOT ASHY GRAY SKIN!! BLACK PEOPLE ARE BEAUTIFUL VIV!! YOU CAN MAKE THEM BROWN ITS OKAY I SWEAR!! Sorry that got aggressive. Look, I just said that I am not a poc but there's no way they don't have black people on the SpindleHorse team. Hell, you can just ask people on Twitter or the black people you know!! Seriously, it's not hard to learn to draw ethnic features! It's really fun actually! I had so much fun drawing the second hairstyle!! Speaking if which!! (Drum noises)

Drawing these hairstyles were so fun yall. Andddddd, you get a sneak peak at what my Alastor redesign might look like! If you can tell what I'm going for then you get a cookie. Dude the second hairstyles was so fun. Like honestly. I do think I can do the first hairstyle, (I think I know the nameof this hairstyle but I don't want to be wrong.), better but thats for me to practice on my own time. Seriously I had so much fun drawing these. Hell I didn't even line them. Those are sketches with colors. These aren't final designs or anything, I still need to adjust colors and get his outfit planned out but I think I know where I'm going with this!!

It's just really sad seeing how SpindleHorse treats its poc characters. Textured hair can come in so many different types and hairstyles, you just wasting them making have straight hair with choppy waves. (Side note: Does anyone else like get excited when they draw new things? Like I was happy drawing Al's hair. I got excited learning how to draw my curls. I tried learning how to draw a hijab. It's really fun actually!! I highly suggest to challenge yourself drawing other types of hair types, races, religions, clothing. Seriously it helps your art and representation is important.)

There were other examples I couldn't list but I don't want this to be long. I want to get back to my Stolitz post but I HAD to draw Alastor with textured hair. Seriously Viv, he's Creole, at least make him look like it if your not even going to try and make him look like what he's described.

I have about 60% of the Stolitz post done! I encourage you to draw something new and to commit mass amounts of tax fraud!! Goodbye Matey's!!

re: dnp onscreen "personas" lol. i mean yall know what i mean by that but i feel like explaining it anyway just to be thorough. this is related to what ive been calling The Shift.

2011-2012 was around the time where the barrier between real dnp and the people they played was starting to be fortified. and like, part of it is just, with phils channel once he wanted it to be less video journal-y and more weird experimental short films, he still wanted to entertain people while talking abt his life, so maybe he would stretch a tale a bit or act a bit peppier than he is irl. and with dan, he had concepts literally from the start of what to do with his channel, and how it was inspired by a lot of sketch comedy based channels like communitychannel and [REDACTED]. so its not like it wasnt somewhat personas from the start, but 2012 was when it was cemented, and once they became known for being a duo it was just further self-flanderization. a Phanderization even. like intentionally playing into the ornery guy who makes bad puns and the happy go lucky guy who accidentally says innuendos. real tsukkomi and boke moment.

ok im gonna elaborate on why tatinof was a fanfic now :) this is the PEAK of phanderization, to me it's not a surprise that the cracks in the egg PERSONAS were starting to show bc they were just Fully In Character for like a year or so straight. in tatinof, the serious bitter eye-rolling "ugh dont do a song and dance" guy was dan (The Straight Man) (dont laugh thats just what its called) so of course his counterpart was the silly happy just having fun "i wanna burst into song!" guy was phil (The Fool). but when you watch their making of doc, dan says that HE'S the one who wanted to do the song and dance. if youre an Enthusiast abt dnp, you mightve already known that dan was a huge theater kid and loves the book of mormon n shit. phil likes theater too, but dan LOVES IT like not just watching but Performing. BUT to a regular degular in 2015 just casually watching or a huge fan but hasnt watched every liveshow ever or a phannie who just really believes in the Phanon, this may come as a surprise. phil is the happy silly ball of sunshine right? like ok. these aspects of their personality (dans bitterness and phil's positivity) aren't exactly LIES. but like obviously theyre just humans. this is what Interactive Introverts was TRYING to comment on, but imo i think fell short of its attempt bc in the end they were still trapped in their personas for the sake of Giving The People What They Want

ok i kinda tangented so back to the personas, it's not as if today they are Fully Raw And Real with us on screen, that's just kinda inherently never gonna happen, there will always be shit we don't know about them bc like. it's still a screen. BUT now that they are more real with us, we kinda see the energy of the olden days back, ofc less MegaRandomHyper and more gay millennial waffling. but it's them! cuz they really are so similar to the personas, but there's always an underlying layer of This Is A Bit. when dan's annoyed at phil for something we know he's not genuinely angry ESPECIALLY when we see that phil does it on purpose to rile him up. i think something strange is that, it's not like during 2012-2018 we didnt see stuff like this, dan's always been silly and phil's always been sarcastic, but bc so many people had bought into the Personas of danisnotonfire and AmazingPhil, that ended up being cemented into fic.

summary: secret santa was just an idea chenle had to make christmas a little more fun but renjun didn’t expect that kind of gift.

warning(s): nothing really, just renjun getting the wrong hints

a/n: inspired by that one victorious episode. didn't expect to post two long renjun fics one after the other but enjoy and merry christmas

“let’s do a secret santa this year!”, the second youngest said, full of enthusiasm to his friends as they had gathered in his living room for one of their game night.

"why?", jeno asked from the couch.

"because yall are too broke to buy everyone a gift? come on, i'm sure it'll be more fun.", chenle replied.

mark, renjun, jeno, donghyuck, jaemin and jisung, all looked at each other before shrugging and nodding. chenle was right. all of them being college student, they didn't really had enough money to even have a complete meal every other day except for chenle who came from a rich family. he came up with the idea to ease everyone's wallet.

"it's gonna be so stressful keeping who we got as a secret.", jisung said, rubbing his neck.

"it's gonna be fine.", chenle reassured, hitting the youngest's shoulder playfully.

chenle brought a small bowl with seven pieces of paper he prepared in advance, "pick again if you pick yourself.", chenle said.

they each took a paper out of the ball and secretly checked who they got. they all kept a poker face as if they were playing mafia so the others wouldn't guess who they got.

chenle smiled internally as he saw the name on his paper.

renjun.

getting renjun a gift was pretty easy. he was maybe even the easiest to find a gift for. he already had multiple options in mind.

ART SUPPLIES

"i swear i had a full pot of ink just a week ago! where did it go?", renjun said as he looked through the art furniture in his bedroom.

"did you left it in the uni's art room?", jaemin suggested but renjun shook his head.

"or in that art room you go to every week?", jeno suggested as well but renjun did the same thing, shaking his head with a frown.

"i swear i had it. someone must have stolen it.", renjun said, crossing his arms and squinting his eyes.

"yeah suuure, like last week with your colored pencils?", donghyuck said.

"or last month with your brand new sketch book?", chenle added.

"or in middle school, with your paint brushes?", jaemin added.

"that was different.", renjun stopped the train of remarks, pointing his finger at jaemin, "i'm sure she stole it."

"what now?", jisung asked, not aware of that story since they didn't know each other yet in middle school.

"in middle school, renjun lost his paint brushes the day they had a kind of competition in art class and allegedly he lost first place because of that and blame the girl who won.", jeno explained.

"because it was her! never got the chance to ask her nor the proof for it but i know it was her."

"that sounds crazy.", chenle said.

renjun rolled his eyes at the younger boy and kept looking for his pot.

"i'm sure you just forgot it somewhere dumb.", mark said.

2. PLACES FOR A CONTEMPORARY SHOW

"the silver swans are having a show? how did i miss that?!", renjun exclaimed, looking at his phone as the group sat around chenle's table for a monopoly game night.

"silver what?", jisung asked.

"silver swans. they do contemporary and ballet performances.", renjun replied, eyes glued to his phone as he was typing away.

"i didn't know you liked those kind of things.", chenle said.

"our renjunnie used to do ballet and contemporary dance in elementary school and middle school.", jaemin cooed.

"we don't talk about those times anymore.", renjun said in an almost warning tone.

"come on, it wasn't even that bad.", jeno rolled his eyes at his friend's dramatic behavior.

"it was!", renjun retorted.

"what happened?", mark asked.

"someone beat him out of first place.", donghyuk answered.

"it was not that simple! i was always at the top of the class, then she came in and stole it from me under three months!", renjun complained.

"she was just better than you. accept it.", jeno said.

"aaarrgh they're sold out!", renjun exclaimed, dropping his phone on the table and leaning back on his chair dramatically.

3. MOOMIN MERCH

"oh no. no. no. no. i lost it. i lost it.", renjun panicked as he looked at his backpack on the floor of jaemin's apartment.

the group decided to have a study session at jaemin's place for their upcoming exams and spent the whole night studying, each falling asleep one after the other. jeno left during the night saying he had to get some sleep for his morning shift the next day.

the next morning, renjun opened his eyes to realize that he fell asleep on jaemin's couch with his laptop on his thighs, screen turned off and hands still on the keyboard. jaemin offered him some coffee from the open kitchen but he declined, saying he'll go home to get some more sleep. while retrieving all his stuff, he noticed that something on his bag was missing. his most prized possession had disappeared.

"what happened? what was lost?", donghyuck shot up from his deep sleep.

"my moomin limited edition keychain from 2013."

donghyuck looked at renjun straight in the eyes with a straight face, "i woke up for that?"

"it's important to me!"

"it's probably lost forever. the probability of you finding it again is quite small. i'd say 15%.", chenle said, having woken up thanks to a panicked renjun.

"why are you talking like that?", renjun asked furrowing his eyebrows at the younger boy.

"he studied math last night.", donghyuck said before falling back asleep.

"i can't believe you still have it. didn't you hate the person that gave it to you?", jaemin said to renjun.

"yes, but it was limited edition. even if it was from someone who wanted to show off and rub in my face the fact that they went to a moomin factory."

jaemin rolled his eyes at the guy.

"i don't even know when i lost it. what if i lost it at uni? what if i lost it on the street? or worse, on the subway? what if some random kid is now in possession of a limited edition moomin keychain and they don't even know the value of it?", renjun started to ramble.

"what if you lost it in jeno's car when he drove you here?", jaemin suggested.

renjun looked at jaemin as if he just became the smartest guy on the planet. he quickly reached for his phone and searched for jeno in his contact.

"don't call him now, he's still working.", jaemin said but it was too late, renjun already hit the dial button. a few minutes later, he groaned and ended the call, as he got straight to jeno's voicemail, "told you.", jaemin said, earning a glare.

the two of them searched every corner of jaemin's apartment just in case it fell somewhere there but nothing. it was more to ease renjun's nerves than anything else. he knew that if his keychain wasn't in jeno's car, he would've lost it forever.

when renjun's phone vibrated in his pocket and he saw jeno's name lit up on his screen, he fumbled a little before picking up, "hello?"

"hey, renjun? why did you call?", jeno's voice echoed in his ear.

"did you find my moomin keychain in your car this morning?"

"your moomin keychain?"

hearing the way jeno repeated his words, renjun almost instantly saw the chances of finding his precious moomin keychain decrease.

"aaaaah so that's what i found in my car this morning? i'll bring it to you."

a weight lifted from renjun's heart at jeno's words. he sighed in relief and thanked his friend over a hundred times.

"come on, renjun. your turn.", chenle said, handing him his gift. the group had all gathered in a coffee shop the last day of class to exchange their gift before they all go back home for the holidays. each secret santa gave their gift to the person they got and only renjun was left.

chenle handed him an envelop the size of a card.

"is that your credit card?", donghyuck joked, making everyone laugh.

"unlimited access to the zhong's wealth for 24 hours.", jeno titled.

"you wish."; chenle answered.

"renjun, the guy who was wealthy for zero second.", jisung added to the joke.

"come on, open it. i wanna know.", mark said to renjun.

renjun carefully opened the envelop that was handed to him earlier. he pulled a little card out, examining it. it looked like a business card but only had a phone number printed on it.

"what's that?", renjun asked, looking at chenle. the younger one just shrugged with a smile, making renjun sighed, "always gotta be extra."

renjun took his phone to send a message to the number.

hello, this is renjun.

he was surprised when the person responded almost immediately.

does this mean i can come in then?

the text confused him as he furrowed his eyebrows. his attention was brought to the entrance of the coffee shop when he heard the bell above it ring, signaling someone's entrance.

you looked around the coffee shop in search of a certain group of boys. you smiled when you spotted them, recognizing renjun from a mile away as you walked towards them. you were wearing a big puffer coat that went passed your knees, a beanie and a huge scarf that hid half of your face.

"merry christmas!", chenle almost shouted as he slapped a bow on your forehead.

"yah! i told you to not do that.", you complained, whining a bit as you removed the bow.

the group stared at you in awe as you removed your scarf, beanie and coat and argued with chenle at the same time. your cheeks were still flushed from the cold but it made you even prettier. you fixed your hair by running your hands through it as the rest all just gaped at you, speechless.

"what?", you asked, noticing how quiet everyone had gotten since you arrived except for chenle.

"you got me...an escort?", renjun asked chenle, confused.

chenle just looked at you before falling to the ground, laughing, thankfully most of the people had left by now and you were all in a pretty isolated area of the coffee shop.

"do i look like an escort?", you asked.

"you look pretty enough to be one.", he answered.

you didn't know what to say or how you should feel about it. should you be offended or not?

"you really don't recognize me?", you asked. you knew you changed quite a bit but you still recognize yourself in old pictures.

renjun shook his head as he looked at you, "should i?"

"i guess i changed more than i thought. it's me, y/l/n y/n."

renjun's eyes had never gotten that wide.

"no way!", jaemin exclaimed.

"y/n? is it really you?", jeno asked and you nodded in response with a smile.

"how did chenle find you?", donghyuck asked.

"through instagram. he slid in my dms asking the weirdest question."

you remembered when you got the notification.

are you the girl renjun obsessively hate?

until then, you hadn't heard renjun's name in a while. you both went to the same elementary school and middle school, parting ways in high school as you went to a school specialized in performing arts.

chenle convinced you somehow to 'be renjun's gift'. well, the money he gave you did play a part in you accepting but you were also curious about renjun, being nostalgic about the old days.

"i figured that since you've been talking about her so much and have so many things you couldn't tell her back then, i'd get you your chance so here it is.", chenle grabbed his things and motionned to the others to follow him.

they all left after some goodbyes, leaving renjun and you alone.

"i'm gonna get something to drink, do you want something?", you asked.

"nah, i still got some left.", he replied, showing you his cup.

renjun watched you walk over to the counter with your wallet and order your drink. you looked really pretty. he remembered finding you cute back then as well but his opinion was then clouded by your actions and any thought of finding you cute disappeared.

"so, how have you been?", you asked, sitting opposite him.

"mmh, good, you? you transferred somewhere else in high school, right?"

"yeah, i went to a performing art high school."

"really?", renjun was shocked not because he thought you were bad or anything, he just didn't think it was something serious for you.

"yeah. i studied contemporary dance mostly."

"oh wow.", he started to be embarrassed of how he thought you were just taking dance classes to annoy him, "are you in college right now?"

"no, actually. i'm apart of the silver swans' new generation.", you smiled, proud of your newest accomplishment.

"the silver swans? really? they're my favorite troop."

"oh really? what a coincidence! i have something for you.", you looked through your bag and took out an envelop. renjun opened it and inside were two tickets for the upcoming silver swans' show that renjun couldn't get a few months earlier.

"what? how-? i tried to get some but all the seats were sold out."

"some tickets are usually reserved for family members of the troop. we just ask for them if we need some. luckily, there was two left. for you and your girlfriend...or whatever.", you were afraid of being to obvious on the last part but luckily, judging by his reaction he didn't picked up on it.

"oh, i don't have a girlfriend but thanks. i'll just bring one of the boys with me."

"i should be the one thanking you.", you said but seeing the confusion on renjun's face, you clarified, "it's actually thanks to you that i got into contemporary dance."

"oh. wow. i-", maybe he didn't have to be embarrassed after all, maybe he was right, "after all this time, i'm finally getting the confirmation that you did do everything to be my academic nemesis."

"ye- wait what?", you looked at him with furrowed eyebrows, "so what chenle told me was true. you did hate me back then."

"hate is a strong word...but yeah, i hated you.", he almost laughed saying that out loud. he knew his 'hatred' for the girl was probably uncalled for most of the time.

"you...you know i had a crush on you, right?", you admitted, thinking he must have known. you were a pretty obvious child.

"huh?"

"did you really think i was in every extracurricular activities you did just to annoy you?"

"well...when you say it like that, it does sound dumb but...yeah...?"

"i-i was just trying to get your attention. i thought that if i did good in things you liked, you'd like me too.", you scratched the back of your neck in embarrassment, "guess it didn't work.", you shrugged with an awkward smile.

"i- you-", renjun stuttered. he thought back to every interaction you had and instead of thinking of you as his academic enemy, he only played the scenes back in his head with a neutral point of view.

"i thought it was pretty obvious, that's why i was pretty shocked when chenle told me you thought i had beef with you somehow. i mean, how could you think that?"

"i don't know! i guess i was just jealous of how you were so much better than me in all those things that were my things. i know it sounds dumb."

"it's alright. just come to our show and all will be forgiven.", you smiled.

renjun smiled back at you and suddenly remembered something related to you that was still with him to this day, "by the way, i still got the moomin keychain you gave me.", he said, grabbing his bag and showing you the keychain hanging from one of the zips.

"oh my god! i forgot about that one! you still got it? and you still believed i wanted to one you up?"

"i thought it was to taunt me!"

"i gave you a limited moomin keychain just to taunt you?"

"i- it sounds stupid now but back then i thought it was to show off the fact that you could go to that moomin event."

"i- i have to confess something...you were supposed to come with me. well, not like 'supposed to' but like i was going to ask you to come with me but one of my friends saw the tickets and were teasing assuming it was for you, which it was, so i got shy and said it was for one of them."

"woah.", renjun's eyes were once again wide open but they never really got back to their normal size since you came in the coffee shop, "i think little me would have ask you to marry him on the spot if you gave me that ticket.", he joked.

you laughed, knowing damn well that little you would've passed out.

"to be honest, i think having a crush on you, pivoted my life in a direction that i didn't know was possible. after getting into the things you liked, i got really passionate about dancing and even got into one of the top school in that area. i did hesitate to go since i was still pretty fond of you but i realized that even if i stayed we probably wouldn't have happened so i chose my future."

"and you've made the right choice. look at you now.", he smiled at you.

you two continued to catch up on your daily life. renjun told you about his major and college life as you told him how you got into the silver swans troop. renjun never thought that he'd talk with you like that. the conversation went on pretty smoothly with less and less awkwardness between the two of you. it only ended when one of the employee came to you and told you that they were going to close. you exchanged numbers before going separate ways.

you two hadn't realize how long you've been talking and you went home with butterflies in your stomach. you didn't know that seeing him again and talking to him was going to have this effect on you and renjun didn't know how he went from hating you to being fascinated by you in just a few hours.

the red curtains slowly came down as the audience clapped. the show just ended and renjun was amazed by you. you looked so gracious while performing, you definitely had gotten so much better since last time he saw you. you were so bright and his eyes were glued to you during the whole time you were on stage. mark, who he brought along, had to tell him to close his mouth or he was gonna drool.

some people in the audience along with the performers got together in a sort of reception room afterwards where the performers were getting gifts and flowers from fans etc...

"mark. i'm a friend of renjun.", mark introduced himself with a smile.

"nice to meet you! how did you enjoy the show?", you asked.

"it was..."

"breathtaking.", renjun said, interrupting mark as he looked at you.

your cheeks burned a little at the compliment.

"oh, here. they are for you.", renjun said, handing you a bouquet of flowers.

you were surprised since usually, it was the main cast who got flowers and gifts. since you were apart of the new generation, people didn't really know you yet.

"thanks!", you smiled, taking the bouquet in your hands and smelling the flowers.

"y/n! come on, we gotta go!", one of your coworkers shouted at you from afar.

"coming!", you shouted back before turning to renjun and mark again, "i have to go but thank you for coming and for the flowers."

"thanks for inviting us.", renjun replied.

mark nudged renjun as you started walking away. the older guy nodded towards you while looking at renjun as the younger one hesitated. mark grabbed his shoulders and almost threw him towards you as renjun stumbled to stay on his feet, "y/n! wait!"

you stopped in your tracks and turned around to face renjun, "yes?"

"i- i was wondering if you were free some day to get something to eat or i don't know...", renjun said, shyly, not daring to look at you directly.

you stood there for a second, speechless. elementary school you, would've squealed on the spot and middle school you, would've fainted but adult you, was speechless. you couldn't believe that your childhood crush was really asking you out.

"you can say no. it's okay...", renjun added, hearing no response from you.

"no!", you quickly said, trying to stop the direction in which he was heading.

"no?", he repeated, kind of disappointed. he didn't expect you to say yes but he had hope. he hoped that maybe, the silly feelings you had for him back then would still be there, in you, somewhere.

"no, not no no. yes."

"yes?"

"yes. yes, i'd love to go eat something, anything, some day, any day.", you blabbered.

renjun's smile reappeared on his face as you smiled, "i'll text you.", he said.

you nodded before waving goodbye and running back to your coworkers with the stupidest grin on your face.

How did Shifter get his powers/abilities? Who's the merc he gets along with the most [personality wise] and complements the most [on the battlefield], if you had to choose?

And for your original universe ocs. What are they up to? Devious acts, I presume :3c?

I’ll answer these numerically just so it’s more organized, get ready for a long post yall!

1. How did Shifter get his powers/abilities?

Honestly, not even Shifter himself has a solid answer on that😅

As part of his backstory, when he was discovered by Mann Co. in his late teens, he was heavily experimented on, leaving his memory fragmented (and a bit traumatized). When they couldn’t find anything else useful about him, they shipped him off to fight in the gravel wars.

Due to this, he doesn’t really have any memory of where exactly his powers come from (or where he’s from, or his exact age, etc.), though through distant memories of his childhood, he guesses that he’s had his powers from birth!

2. Who’s the merc he gets along with the most? (Personality wise)

I personally feel like he would be friends with Pyro, Demoman and Scout the most (with a little bit of Soldier and Sniper in the mix)!!

I feel that Demo and Shifter would be friends with a father/son (more like weird uncle/weirder nephew) dynamic going on! Shifter kinda sees Demo as his friend he can go to when conflicted, and Demo gives surprisingly good advice! Other than that, Shifter looks up to him for some reason hehe

Shifter and Pyro are definitely besties at first sight! Pyro was one of the first mercs to aproach Shifter when he arrived on base, all of the other mercs being too wary (or uninterested) to talk to the new hire. And because of Shifter’s sharp ears, they are able to understand Pyro pretty clear through the mask, so they just like to talk about whatever interests them :3

Because of Shifter’s ability to mix-and-match the animals he can turn into, he loves getting suggestions from Pyro of mythical creatures to turn into!! (Pyros favorites are dragons and unicorns, and Shifter loves to indulge them :3)

He can be quite mischievous when he wants to be, so he has no problem getting rowdy and indulging in some play-fighting with Scout!

Him and Scout are definitely friends, and though Scout had his reservations about the guy who looks just on the verge of non-human, as soon as Shifter discovered Scout’s love of challenges (especially when it comes to speed) Shifter became adamant on becoming friends with him! They also get into plenty of mischief together, with Scout’s favorite pastime picking on the other mercs, and Shifter’s love of chaos, trouble is bound to happen at some point!

They also both have a healthy fear of Medic (Shifter because of his time being experimented on by Mann co. (resulting in a fear of doctors/medical scientists), and Scout because who isn’t afraid of Medic)

3. Who’s the merc he compliments the most? (On the battlefield)

I feel like either Medic or Pyro would make an unstoppable force on the battlefield with him!!

Other than that, he already has a counterpart that works perfectly with his abilities (my other tf2 oc Comm (short for Communications))!!

fr tho, tell me anything and everything :D

TOOK SO DAMN LONG SINCE I WANTED TO DRAW A STEP ONE REF OF EVE BUT ITS GONNA TAKE A MINUTE so here are the sketches,,, Anyways- gonna introduce the main two mcs/ocs you'll see here: Eve Cortez Williams and Aaliyah Dubious

(dont mind my ipad scribbles on the screenshot iofqiowogi) Lemme put this under a readmore actually so yall dont get slammed with a long ass post:

Starting with Eve:

He's my Tamarack MC, but I figured since uh. all my art that was a given

He has a strained relationship with Qiu in step 1 but they become besties by step 2 and by step 3, they are like family to each other. If no one got Eve, Eve knows Qiu got them, amen 🙏

He comes out as transmasc by step 2, and by step 3 he gets top surgery and starts taking testosterone and firmly identifies as a butch lesbian

He's from the southern part of Miami, Florida. He's Golden Grove's residential florida man

He practices martial arts religiously, he's a big fan of Goku and Dragonball in general so he wants to be like his idol

His story deviates a bit from the OL2 generic mc story, he did have a dad! Opal and his dad wanted a kid but they both didn't want to get married and since the two of them were best friends, they decided to have a kid together (or well two but we'll talk about that later)

What's important to note from above is that his dad isn't around anymore because his father passed away a few months ago due to a car accident and Eve was hospitalized as a result

So by the time he's at Golden Grove, he's in anger stages of his grief and he doesn't want to be bothered. Which sucks cause hes neighbors with the two loudest kids on the block

Doesn't help he's a ESL speaker (English as a Second Language) and Golden Grove's population is majorly white so he has even harder of a time adjusting to it

He gets into fights in step 1... a Lot. Someone will look at him funny and they'll get punched in the face

He does adjust but he still doesn't like Golden Grove by step 3 but funnily enough, he moves away at the end of step 3 for treatment but moves back in step 4, crazy how that shit works huh

He has two emotional support bunnies; Bulma and Chi-Chi! He gets them in step 2, Qiu and Eve bond over them LMFAO

As for Aaliyah:

She's my Qiu MC, to the shocker of no one. Tamarack is also her best friend <3

Aaliyah is from New Orleans, Louisiana! She's full blooded Haitian and she has family in Haiti

She's also transfem! She passes for cis in step 1 thanks to hormone blockers and some makeup and then starts taking estrogen in step 2 and onwards

Her being black and transfemme is integral to her character and how she navigates around Golden Grove, she doesn't tell anyone she's trans until near the end of step 1. By step 3, the girl gang and Qiu knows shes trans

^^ That's because she had a very negative experience coming out to her community who previously loved her but flipped on her just as fast

So moving to Golden Grove was supposed to be a fresh start for her as herself but by that point she feels like she has to keep up her "cis-sona" lest she gets bullied again

She still gets bullied for other reasons in step 2 though (being a pretty black girl and the one person who has a crush on her is the most popular kid in school... its rough! 😭)

By step 4 though she is proud to call herself trans and will let people know!

She lovessss animals! And the animals love her back! She feeds them all the time and keeps animal food on her for that purpose when she goes to the park to read by herself, she got a flock of crows and stray cats that like to follow her

She has a cat named Kiki!!! Kiki loves everyone except Qiu though, Aaliyah doesnt know that though-

We heard that a ban on TikTok might happen. Thats good news for plurals, especially those with DID. Why? TikTok has users who spread misinformation and add stereotypes to DID. They also put more attention on DID than they do OSDD, when OSDD is diagnosed just as often if not more. But because society always had a fascination with the dramatic amnesic switching that only occurs in DID, long before internet or social media existed and long before TV really, the media has always chose to focus on DID instead. This includes people on TikTok. We usually don't advocate for fakeclaiming and thats not what we're doing- we're just saying to take them with a grain of salt. Most people who post about DID on TikTok post themselves acting out dramatic switches to anime characters, dsmp characters, or different creatures. Sure, those types of alters exist in DID, but usually the host is too scared to share them with other people. And thats all these people post themselves switching to. Then, the switches are so acted out "Where am I? Oh, there's a camera? Hey yall I guess I switched!" When we switched on camera, it was before we even knew about DID and before I the host was aware of the alters fully. I tend to have slient staring episodes when I talk irl, and when I switched on camera I thought I just had those staring episodes. Then I'd try to piece together where I left off and some of the details would be missing. Now, if we switch on camera we'd brush it off the same and not let anyone know a switch happened. And these people who act out DID on TikTok- they also dramatically act out pre-switch. They act like theyre falling asleep then suddenly they dramatically act out waking up. Opening and rubbing their eyes, looking around confused. I've seen videos with multicolored motion blur filters during their acted out switches. But people acting out DID on TikTok dont just glorify switching. They also post about their protectors or persecutors being assholes in general in a quirky way. "My protector alter is so mean to some people! Lets make a comedy sketch of that for TikTok!" If protectors are mean to other people, its because they remind the protector of trauma or past danger so the protector is trying to ward them off. "My persecutor is a bully to other people, if you got a rude message thats my persecutor sorry about that." That's now how persecutors work. Persecutors attack the system, usually the host. Persecutors usually bully the host in an effort to instill the "lessons" learned from abuse because its what the persecutor sees necessary. Theyre misguided protectors. And sometimes, you'll find a person acting out DID on TikTok who glorifies dissociation. Not the memory gaps for trauma or certain months or years, but depersonalization and derealization. They use all these hazy, blurry filters and talk about "being in headspace." Or make derealization seem quirky. While being in headspace is a real part of DID/OSDD, its overly glorified and overly expected. People act like having a headspace is another normal part of DID like alters are. Not every person with DID or OSDD has a headspace. These people on TikTok spread more misinformation and spread the same stereotypes. They've also made more stereotypes in the process. Now, because of these misinformed people on TikTok, a whole subbreddit uses the DID side of TikTok to prove why most people who claim to be a system are "faking." TikTok has largely contributed to syscourse all across social media and in real life. Its made other systems unsure if other systems around them are faking. Its made systems think theyre faking it themselves in a disorder that already comes with denial. So if TikTok is banned, it would be a good thing for all systems. Its always been a mental illness and neurodivergence glorifying site anyway.

But yes I do have some answers for these!

1. Mikey is feral mostly bc he's very spoiled and he grew up In an environment that encouraged behavior like that! He is the 'Mama's boy' (in the AU, Splinter and Big Mama are canonically married, Splints still lives in the NY sewers, BM still in hidden city and her hotel), and BM definitely encourages his bad behavior. No one really tells him no, and he's an attention hog. He likes getting reactions so doing outlandish stuff and saying cruel things gets him that reaction! He's also an adrenaline junky and a pyromaniac, he'll put himself/others into danger for fun! Plus, BM DOES treat him like a pet, what do you expect. Boy is flea ridden/hj

2. Raph is very quiet and stoic! He still hates being alone, but he also definitely Dislikes being bothered, teased, or pranked. While the most outwardly 'chill', he's very quick to violence. He is the reason Leo has those bite/teeth marks on his shell! Raph bit him <3. His comfort item is Mrs. Cuddles and he always has her with him, which definitely makes it a target for Mikey shenanigans and such! He does still love hugs and snuggles tho, and likes bows, sewing, and cartoons! He doesn't talk much, and he especially won't if his brothers aren't around. He doesn't care much about anything, he's just along for the ride! The brothers often try to, like, 'sic' Raph on eachother by blaming things or just asking REALLLYYYYY nicely (also yes, Don is definitely a mad scientist. Please get him some lab safety etiquette at least some lab goggles)

3. LEOSAGI <3333333 ACTUALLY JUST MY COMFORT CHARACTERS I SWEAR. I have a writer friend who enjoys making small snippets of this AU, and I may ask her if I can post them here or if she would like to post them on A03? So yall can get even more content of the Boyz <3 (NewFallenLeaves on A03! Check out her ROTTMNT stuff, it's wonderful)

4. APRIL AND MAYHEM YES!!!!!! They are both definitely some of my favorite designs of this AU, April is just so beautiful and Mayhem is such a little Creatur. Babey demon demigorgon. Evil beast/pos (fun fact! Mayhems face can split apart in 4 different ways, one way looking like a demigorgon! I'll probably post that sketch sometime soon!)

5. Splinter is great! As Lou Jitsu, he was a film star who behind the scenes was involved in a lot of crime, especially back in Japan with things like the Yakuza. As a rat, he is VERY MUCH based on Gomez Addams. He's fun loving, caring, and loves a good spar session. He may be a bit neglectful of his boys (same as in canon) but he loves and accepts their weird and wacky behavior all the same.

This is his design! Some bits may change but as it stands I am happy w/ it! :D

He owns a decent of pieces of the Shredder Armour as, like, almost trophies? It also helps mean that the Foot will not build the Shredder fully, Aka none of that mess to deal with :]

As for Cassandra, she's not really in the AU at all! I just haven't really been able to think of much for her. As an antagonist, I didn't know whether to lean towards more Addams esque behavior or make her more 'normal' (as normal as she can be JSBSJEB) to have a type of parallel. Idk? Any suggestions and ideas for her would be welcome and I'd tag you if I ended up using/posting any of it!

As for extra content, tomorrow or in the next following days I will either post more random sketches, more Usagi lore (specifically his family) or maybe some finished refs? Whatever I feel like, so look for that >:]
