I saw this post and automatically thought of you. They are 100% correct.

Absolutely! You’re correct. Hey, @the-sage-libriomancer , I saw Wish and you’re still correct. The idea of having a star that is a higher power (Evangeline) and then having a character who demonstrates absolute faith in that higher power (Ray) and winds up teaching that same faith to both self-centered-Naveen and self-reliant Tiana? So very Disney.

Sometimes Disney’s Renaissance-era princesses were the Faithful Characters of their own story—Ariel had faith in Eric and taught that same faith to her father, Jasmine (and Genie) had faith in the Truth and taught that faith to Aladdin and the Sultan, etc. And that’s wonderful. Cinderella and Snow White are the Faithful Characters in their own stories, too, so it’s not like that isn’t a Classic Disney idea.

But Princess and the Frog doesn’t do that. It has the princess be the one who needs to learn to have faith. And the prince! That’s much more like dear old Pinocchio. What Jiminy Cricket and Geopetto are to Pinocchio, Ray is to Louis, Naveen, and Tiana. I mean, how wonderful a tribute to Disney, to have the main character be afraid of relying in something higher, valuing love, and trusting only whatever she can accomplish on her own…

…to have her go from that to being willing to give up what she wanted? To value love, plain old love, over career, personal goals, dreams? To change her dream and admit when she was wrong? And finally, to sacrifice herself in order to do what’s right?

Why, that’s Pinocchio. That’s Mr. Banks from Mary Poppins. That’s Alice from Alice in Wonderland. That’s Disney!

Wish 2023 could never.

Harrelson worked in the International Confederation of Wizards while Saffron acted as a crowning gem on his arm. Possessing bitter distaste for anyone challenging traditionalist views, the couple forced sorcerers to bend under their whim; disposing discreetly of anyone who dared not comply. One of the most powerful and noteworthy families in the country, the lineage was filled with atrocities better left as rumors uttered by skeletons at the backs of locked closets. Eva turned a blind eye knowing it was better to be withdrawn than to partake in the nightmares her parents conjured. Not seeing the world as strictly black and white, she saw the souls behind their father’s disgust. Creeping at midnight to heal wounds inflicted by her parents on elves and EDRICK SELWYN [brother] who was a frequent victim.

Compared to her brother who grew to mimic their father’s behaviors, Eva grew inwardly. Typically a loner, she developed a distaste for people among the Twenty-Eight who cared more for appearances than self discipline. With crystals and astronomy maps for company, the witch grew obstinate. Worn to a cold exterior from years of forceful opinions, Eva grew more concerned with safeguarding her own heart than how her blunt comments could leave others with bruises. Renowned around Hogwarts halls for predicting disasters, many saw her as a bad omen. While her professor expressed their admiration in divination and suspicion she could be gifted with the inner eye, she rejected it. Harbored with dread, for if true her talents could lead to peril should her father become aware. Though solitude fated for her. Perched alone by the black lake, when she heard the voices of sisters SAGE BOSWELL [close friend] and ROWAN BOSWELL [close friend] who sang into the night like sirens luring their prey. Accompanied by OPAL GREY [friend] and RIVER NORWOOD [friend], they were equally as strange and unlike the Slytherin’s she was used to associating with. The group began to feel like home. Marveling at hidden objects and sharing tales with tower ghosts all with her family unaware of who she was associating herself with.

While playing the idealistic product of a Twenty-Eight, she craved a moment of sanctum away from the snobbery. Escaping London, what had meant to be a two week holiday turned into a summer romance and the best four years of her life. Brought to Paris following Boswell's band, Eva longed to find peace for her troubled soul; never did she imagine she’d find love instead. CLAUDETTE DELACOUR [former partner/potential love interest] felt like coming up for air. A complex woman, Evangeline found herself quickly captivated by her. Exchanged glances turned to drinking with the night ending wrapped under sheets in each other’s arms. Encapsulated with one another, from that night they never spent a day apart. They cherished one another and it wasn’t long before Eva had moved in with Claude and her best friend JACQUELINE LEJEUNE [former friend]. Claude’s social circle became hers, with GABRIEL DUMONT [former friend] and RAPHAEL FRANCOIS [former friend] the five became extremely close. With her friends visiting from England when they could, Paris was idealist and offered a life Eva had only ever dreamed of.

Letters and howlers from home were burned on arrival in an attempt to distance herself from the Selwyn’s by any means necessary. The exceptions were rare letters from Erik who consistently pleaded with her to see reason and return. Not heeding his warning, Eva was prepared to disown her family while Claudette held reservations to sacrifice the same. Left exasperated and hurt at being kept a secret from people that meant so much to the French woman, the topic was a continuous sour point. With the desire to love openly and freely, they’d planned to flee Paris once Claude had visited home to leave a mere note for her parents before reuniting so they could disappear into the night. Never did Eva consider their simple goodbye would be their last farewell. Hours and days passed with no word, leading her to assume Claude had gotten cold feet and chosen her family rather than facing her again. Abandoned and left by the one person she’d truly loved, her heart ached with betrayal and broken promises. The rejection forged walls back around her heart, plans to stay in Paris were quickly torn and with owls from Opal and Sage informing her that Rowan had passed suddenly and under suspicious circumstances Eva flead back to the past and the rainy streets of london.

Influenced back into the grasp of their father, his fury upon her return could have burned the manor to the ground. Adamant she brought shame onto the family name, his ‘teachings’ had been ill in comparison to the torment she faced upon return. Long sleeves hiding scars from cursed quills, Eva fell back in line. Distancing herself from her friends to prove loyalty to her family, she took a job within the Ministry under her father’s guidance that having sorcerers hold Ministry positions would come in use. While skeptical about the world her family envisioned with THE DARK LORD [leader], she knew her alliance to them would mean safety. Immersing herself amongst the wizarding aristocracy again was no small feat. The people she grew up despising for their flippant nature were the few she found herself reluctantly making small talk with in order to appease. Though one that captured her unexpectedly was LACHESIS MALFOY [fiancé]. Articulate with a mind as sharp as a crafted blade; they were as captivating as a lit flame. Finding herself unarmed by their intellect and unwavering gaze at her callous words, Lachesis deemed her cold nature like devotion; with Eva baring her soul only for a selective handful. If Eva was the dark side of a moon filled with mysticism, they were the sun burning a heart she’d long forgotten she’d had.

Devoting two years to one another, their engagement was celebrated amongst the elite for the uniting of two noble houses. Influenced by Lachesis and Edrik to hold a stronger hand in the movements of The Death Eaters; she finds herself in the exact position she’d always feared. Proving her worth by decoding a prophecy stolen during the Solstice of 1983, Eva has confirmed its meaning to be about CAIUS BURKE [acquaintance] and KERVENS BORGIN’s [friend] mission to gather objects for the Dark Lord’s quest for horcruxes and their prophesied success. Gaining trust amongst The Death Eaters, she has it on good word that MASON TREMBLAY [acquaintance] while trapped in Azkaban is gathering followers from the inside. While Evangline believes The Dark Lord means safety, she can’t help the paranoia still when it comes to a particular french woman. Cursed into silence to not betray her loyalties, instead of worrying for Claude she is focusing on rebuilding the bonds of her old friendships. Creature recruitment heavily on the mind of The Dark Lord, Evangline is seeking out River, Sage and Opal in hopes of entrusting them; promising a world where creatures didn’t live in fear or discrimination. However with Sage’s cold shoulder and River’s reclusive behavior; Evangeline can’t help but feel there is more to the death of Rowan than she was once privy to.

Maehrer’s debut novel is charming, witty, and utterly romantic!

“Assistant to the Villain” follows Evie Sage as she looks for employment to support her ailing family. When a chance meeting with Rennedawn’s notorious villain results in a job offer, she takes it without a second thought. She never expected to fall in love with her boss, especially considering that he is evil personified, but when his carefully laid plans are sabotaged and his life is put in danger, she has little choice other than to come to terms with her feelings as she uncovers the culprit.

What I love most about this book is that it’s just so fun! The atmosphere that Maehrer creates with her storytelling is similar that of some of my favorite comfort films/shows like Ella Enchanted, Tangled, and Once Upon a Time. Despite the novel’s high stakes, I found myself actually laughing out loud when I got to many of the comedic moments and became so attached to the characters that I really had a hard time letting go of them at the end.

I really appreciated being able to read from both Evie and the Villain’s points-of-view. I was instantly intrigued by the Villain as a character because Maehrer skillfully kept his origins a secret, sprinkling hints here and there, until the big reveal near the end. His guarded and grumpy nature beautifully compliment Evie’s sunshine personality. I love a good “opposites attract” romance and Maehrer delivers on that front, going the extra mile to painstakingly capture their mutual pining for each other and the feelings left undeclared as they attempt to ignore their attraction within the workplace. When they finally do act on their feelings, nothing is more satisfying.

That satisfaction, however, dissipated when I go to the final cliffhanger. To say it was punch to the gut is an understatement. I am desperate for book two because I cannot get enough of these characters and I want them to get the happily ever afters that they deserve!

Supporting Character Supplemental - Vange Whedon

Evangeline ‘Vange’ Whedon is a lawyer and a member of the Mutant Rights Coalition (or Mutant Rights League). Her ability to shapeshift into a large, dragon-like creature is triggered when she comes in contact with blood. Whedon used to be a highly successful prosecutor until she was outd as a Mutant. This resulted in her being fired from her law firm, evicted from her apartment and disowned by her family.

Determined to put her life back together, Whedon began her own firm focusing on defending the legal rights of Mutants and starting the Mutant Rights League. When the X-Men Bishop and Sage were being held in police custody, Whedon staged a protest for their release. While Whedon was talking to Detective Cardones, a human struck the detective with a brick. The blood from the wound dripped on to Whedon, and caused her to shapeshift involuntarily. She transformed into a beast that resembled a dragon, and was out of control. Sage was able to stop Vange momentarily, while Bishop calmed her down enough to revert to her human form.

Evangeline was called to Los Angeles when the X-Men needed legal help. Evangeline succeeded in getting Marie D'Ancanto, an anti-mutant terrorist given a second chance by the X-Men, under probation and hired her as an assistant. Evangeline also helped the X-Men against a lawyer secretly working for the psychic mutant Elias Bogan. Some time later, Whedon again aided the X-Men, successfully petitioning the emancipation of the young Mutant known as Teon.

Vange Whedon first appeared in X-Treme X-Men #21 (2003.

Things are getting... better?

Sending Vivian and Sebastian to school was quite the trip. There was a fire drill and Vivan was not happy. She honestly just wanted to go home and chill out. However, she got through the day and it was time for the twin's birthday party!

Charlotte invited the twin's father, Nicholas to the party. They had a good time together. Just chatting and being good friends. Margo and Hunter aged up into toddlers and they are just so adorable!!

After Charlotte and Nicholas put them to bed, they clearly had some business to take care of. While their relationship is clearly just friends with benefits. Nicholas can't help but wonder if it could ever be something more.

Vinnie has been working from home a lot recently to help with the twins. Charlotte has been telling him to go out and experience life. She wants him to find love! He truly deserves it.

Vinnie thought of it for a moment, then downloaded a dating app. On there, he met a lady named Ester. She seems sweet!! They hit it off almost instantly! They had their first kiss after a few dates and now they're officially together!

Charlotte went to go and visit her brother and sister, Oliver and Sage. While there she met the newest addition to the family, Andy! Charlotte was so excited to meet her nephew. She could not contain this level of happiness. However, Andy wasn't too excited to meet Charlotte.

After, Evangeline, her niece from her oldest sister, Isabela, invited her over to meet their new puppy! Kelly was just the sweetest little pup. While there she enjoyed her time with her oldest sister, Isabela. She also got even closer to her niece. Gaining the dynamic of Supportive.

Is Sage immune to the goblin full name thing or can it be done telepathically?

For a goblin to be enthralled by their name, two conditions must be met:

1 ) The one using their name cannot be a goblin themselves. They must be another species of person, and not a monster.

2 ) The goblin must comprehend their name and the command being given.

Let me explain the second point, because this is where things get tricky...

A deaf goblin who can't hear their name being spoken will not be enthralled by someone speaking their name. However, if the one enthralling them commands them using telepathy, then they can be enthralled.

So yes, goblins can be enthralled telepathically! But only by experienced telepaths. Sage is an experienced telepath herself. Someone as powerful as her could probably block an enemy's spell and maybe even enthrall them.

Here are some other interesting points: Say someone tries to command a goblin, but they do it in a language that goblin doesn't understand. The goblin may comprehend their name, but they don't comprehend the command being given, so in this case it doesn't work.

Commands also may not work if the goblin is severely intoxicated or intellectually disabled, as they might struggle with language comprehension in these states.

Goblins can protect themselves from most commands by wearing high quality earplugs or even damaging their own ears. Historically, many goblins have sacrificed their hearing by sticking sharp objects deep into their ears in order to escape slavery.

Luckily this species excels at mental magics like telepathy, so deaf goblins can quickly learn telepathy to replace their hearing. This allows them to read peoples' thoughts and project their own thoughts into the heads of others, and they can communicate effectively this way.

I imagine Folkvar Kingdom has a large community of deaf goblins who escaped their chains in Evangeline Kingdom.
