Live action Yu Yu Hakusho liveblog (ep 2)

Okay listen. Whoever wrote and whoever is voicing the little kid Yusuke saves has never heard an actual six year old talk in their lives

Also forgot to say last ep but liked the move to age yusuke up a bit. Also Botan's digital file of Yusuke talking back at her is hilarious

Botan's voice (Eng dub) isn't quiiiite as expressive as would hit the mark for me compared to the anime but whatever she's adorable I forgive her

Also forgot to say last ep "Maybe it's better you're dead" BOTAN STOP ASDLKFJADS I love her your honor

Fights and vfx on Goki are actually kind of shockingly good, esp given how much I Did Not like him in the anime

VERY annoying and unfortunately typical that the darkest-skinned guy we've seen so far is. very specifically. the demon that eats children and that the anime makes uh iirc a lot more directly than I ever wanted to watch into a Certain Allegory

Interested that Reikai doesn't seem to know who Kurama actually is. Was that the case in the anime/manga?? I feel like no, they knew who he used to be from the initial briefing on the thieves but idk season 1 wasn't exactly my favorite to go back and rewatch literally ever

My favorite was 2 and 4. If you even care. lol

Actually fight with Goki is very epic. Again super creative and impressively believable way for Yusuke to survive and fight back against a guy with WAYYYY superior strength

Also wow is Yusuke underqualified for these fights rn lol. I mean we knew that but he's lucky he pulled that one out in the end. And esp lucky that Kurama won't want to fight, obv

Her wig is sadly Not as impressive as Botan's, and I'm not a fan of what looks like her contacts. Did they make her eyes green??? Bc her eyes being red is kind of narratively. you know. Relevant

Wait is that guy helping Yukina Hiei???!!! Human-form Hiei??!!!

Wait no of course not Hiei would've just killed everyone and gotten her out

Interesting new jagan origin + (presumably?) moving up Yukina as Hiei's motivation. Makes sense given how everything about Hiei's first manga/anime appearance was ignored afterward lol when he was too popular to kill off

I hope they got rid of his original plan/motivation, anyway. I hated the mind control arc thing with him esp on Keiko. Dickhead

Kurama's outfit is really pretty actually btw. I like it better than his anime outfit by a lot. The pink always clashed with his hair sooo bad

Also the pink in the preview images made me think/hope he was a girl (who actually got to fight in a shounen anime!!!!) and you have no idea how disappointed I was when I realized that wasn't true

Shiori benefits a lot from being played by like. an actually human person who also is older and has visibly aged. Gives her Character, makes her less of Just An Archetype

Momma's boy Kurama excellent as always. Meanwhile Yusuke's just flat out not replying to a single thing Shiori is literally saying to him lol

Wait does the quickchange imply that Kurama only uses that outfit on demon business. Bc in the show it's just his (ugly) school uniform but here it's clearly not. I really desperately want that to be his On Demon Business outfit in this show lol

Also makes the fact that he had Yusuke stalk him in that outfit funnier. then. boom. quickchange. Mom can't see the Demon Business Outfit

Hmm something about Kurama and his delivery isn't rly landing for me here. But to be fair he is being super Performative and Deliberate about all of this so that may be on purpose

I hope it's on purpose. Bc Kurama's great and I'd REALLY like to buy him/his lines as a character in this

He does successfully pull off "casually menacing" (you know, without murdering someone first) much more easily than his anime counterpart tho so that's cool

It is killing me that he used the phrase "fertilized egg" in this explanation. It's killing me. It's also raising Fucking Questions. (But does at least give an explanation for how Kurama didn't like. Kill the original Shuichi's soul when he took the body.)

Hmm I don't like how they translated Hiei's outfit as much as I do the others. (I like how they translated literally everyone else's outfits. This is so disappointing, esp since Hiei's aesthetics go off. There's too much white and too much detail in his outfits. Give me his cloak!!! Also changing the scarf into a turtleneck is highkey Not Working For Me

Anime!Hiei would literally never wear a turtleneck

OOF effects on the Toguros are NOT convincing. Oof. I admire their commitment to taking their physicalities literally but uh. They should've been less ambitious and focused more on translating the vibe. Imho

Okie well I can't shut up ever so I'm going to compile my thoughts here on Tumblr as I rewatch nnt fom the beginning !! Also pls feel free to scream and/or rewatch with me👉👈👀

Season 1, episodes 1-6

I forgot how good the writing and animation are in the first season, like they truly thrived under aniplex😔 the brief white blood period in I think season 3 shows us just how good we had it

I love seeing Hawk and Meliodas's relationship, and his star Boar earring😭 plus having the Boar hat as the main location is just so comforting !!

Also I JUST realized his name is hawk because of a ham hok😭😭 this is like when I realized toe mater's name was tomato at the ripe age of 18

I miss the holy knights being powerful. Like I get that the Sins are always more powerful than them, had a long way to go in terms of power ups, and meliodas straight up had most of his power sealed but like DAMN. They were so cool in season 1 !! Gil was such a badass😭 I guess I just wish that the holy knights powered up along with the Sins

Seeing the very first episode got me thinking about the original pilot Manga (chapter 0) and how cool it might have been !! Like I love the story we got, but I do think those versions of Mel and Elizabeth maybe would have been better than the ones we got😳 like I just really like Meli's original design, I feel like he looks a bit older, and chapter 0 Elizabeth is simply superior ngl. She's funny, brave, and assertive - a lot more like Liz and goddess Elizabeth, except funnier

The first half of season 1 has one of my fave intro and outros like damn I forgot how fucking cool they were. Some of my fave songs to !! (my all time fave is def howling from season 3 part 2 (i think lol) tho)

Speaking of intros, I miss the title cards !! Like look how cute this is !!

Everytime the fiddle (?) Music plays I get SO FUCKING HYPED BRO like damn Ik it's through all the seasonal and I'm so glad it is because it's rlly the perfect hype song - here it is on Spotify

Also Gil is such a badass in early episodes, I love his strength !! This moment is the fucking coolest and you can't convince me otherwise

Overall, I think the attention to detail is just better, the sounds the armor makes, the animation and drawings (esp background characters), Meliodas just sounds a bit older too (and I have theories on his voice here if u want them 👀)

The whole perv thing is really exhausting really quickly. Almost surprised 14 year old me made it through this as the 2nd anime I ever watched and the 1st I watched alone

I feel like Diane got shorter through the seasons. Like she doesn't compare to Hawk Mama like she did in season 1, and I think that's a damn shame. Let my giant girl be giant !!

She's also a decent bit more violent and I enjoy that thoroughly. She's just a silly goofy kween😌

Also her original costume is superior, her boots are just👌

Just realized that Meliodas was like an older brother/mentor to Gil and now they're brothers in law 😭😭

Also young Elizabeth and Gil are so cute😭 I always forget that they grew up together too

Okay SO in episode 5, when Ban is about to get his scar from the dragon handle sword, he tells Meliodas "you and me have been hanging together for a lot of years now." This scene takes place 12 years before present (bp). Does this mean Ban and Meliodas were friends before the formation of the Sins? Or was Ban the first after him and Merlin? Ban has been immortal 20 years BP, leaving 8 years in between present and the flashback. 8 years before this scene, Meliodas was still in Danafal/Danfor and would be for another 4 years. What does any of this mean? Idk, just thot it was intriguing lol.

Also how did I not notice this is the first time we see demon!Meliodas !! Baby's first sighting as an unnatural creature with otherworldly rage🥰🥰

Also the fact we never see the scar Gil gave him again lol. Plus him presumably needing to do demon mode so hellfire can heal him is actually rlly cool

Just thought about how Elizabeth laying her hand on his chest to check the scar was the first time in years his love touches him with gentleness or concern🥲🥲

The fact that it took me 6 years to realize that when Meliodas says he'll keep the promise he made to Elizabeth, even if she should die is referencing the promise he made to her originally to break their curses🥲😬😤😭😭😭😭

6'11 Ban thinking that he even had a chance in fitting in Jericho's armor is just so... him

Diane calling Elizabeth kiddo is so fucking cute🥺

Also they definitely get away with a lot more innuendos and swears. The words badass and foreplay in the same episode? Impressive

hii, yes omg I would love to talk about it thank you for the request!!

while I really like this dr, it’s definitely one of my more lackluster and simple drs. I usually write more complex backstories for my drs, but for this one I kept it simple for a few reasons + I actually haven’t seen the last season, but I plan on doing it soon and update my script

so basically before baji met the others and formed toman, I moved into his apartment building with my family and our moms became friends instantly because of a common interest and they forced me and baji to become friends too. we hated each other at first because of our literal opposite personalities but after some time we became inseparable. this dr follows the ‘canon’ story from the anime just like the majority of my drs because I just like it the best (well it somehow follows it because I scripted a bunch of deaths and situations out)

so after some time we befriend mikey, all 3 of us start going to his grandpa’s dojo together and after some time we befriend the others and form toman while we’re in our last year of middle school. I aged everyone up because I preferred it this way plus would make more sense irl, so at the moment everyone in toman is finishing up highschool or maybe even in uni (I scripted uni is chill because I couldn’t be bothered to care about studying 😭)

my position in toman is acting vice president because I don’t really like to lead or give orders, but can do it if absolutely necessary when draken and/or mikey are not available for some reason

one very small difference I added in this dr is related to my s/o. I usually don’t script partners because it’s either not on my mind or I’m just curious to see who’d be into me without scripting, but here I added han from stray kids as my s/o because recently he’s really had my attention and I don’t know why, but I just feel like he fits in the tokyo revengers verse/a gang, especially when you think how he used to act predebut 😭

so he’s part of a notorious enemy gang to toman (I didn’t script much about this gang, but honestly I might add some more stuff) and after this enemy gang is brutally defeated by toman they’re going to disband and han will seek me out to join us and yeah

a lot of the time I like to connect my drs with things that happened in this reality to overcome there what I couldn’t do here, and this includes my tokyo revengers dr as well. here I grew up very sheltered and I would always be punished or humiliated by my family if I ever tried to rebel because of their positions in the society I grew up in. in my dr they hold important positions as well (dad is a police officer and mom is a nurse) and me being in a gang without their knowledge is my way of revenge (no pun intended) for both realities. I hate being constrained, and being in a gang, especially as a girl, is my way of saying ‘fuck you’ to my family (and honestly the society I grew up in) for keeping me in chains. I know they only wanted the best for me but it really messed me up as I grew up

also growing up I never had male friends, let alone best friends, because my parents didn’t like me hanging out around guys, so I think my best friend being a guy and having mostly guys as friends is going to be a nice change for me, so yeah that’s definitely another thing I’m excited about

another thing I love about this dr for is how it’s set in the early 2000s. I’ve seen a lot of people (esp on tiktok) complain about places they want to shift to being set in the 90s or 00s because they don’t have access to the internet and tiktok and blah blah blah!! y’all are boring!! the 2000s were literally superior in so many ways. I miss so much the vibe from back then and the technology like the funny phones or when the internet just became a thing and people used yahoo and hi5 to talk to each other; it was so great how people were more connected back then and that’s one of the main things I look forward to;

like it’s going to be so fun how the guys will need to come get my ass personally for a meeting because phones back then had a limit on how much you can call and text, so it was preferred to talk in person unless absolutely necessary 😭

most relationships feel so shallow here, so I’m genuinely excited to go hang out with my friends and talk about everything and nothing instead of everyone playing on their phones; I also scripted yahoo and hi5 are the most used social platforms in japan because those were sooo fun to be on

if catherine had somehow found out about gil and sara pre-dead/living doll, how do you think she would have reacted? mainly; do you think she would have encouraged (or given an ultimatum) of telling ecklie.

on one hand, if she'd found out earlier this could have been on the back of the team being split and being more consistantly in hot water against ecklie. being a boss/subordinate relationship, she could have wanted to avoid any more nonsense from ecklie/the lab and encouraged gil to tell the higher ups.

or...... she could be like YES gil get it.

seriously though, she could have just been happy for gil and left it at that, secret kept. i dont necessarily think cath is a rat or would tattle to ecklie, i think she's very much one to encourage it and say go for it (esp since its gil, as i think shes been encouraging of him to 'get laid' [at least lol] or find someone in earlier seasons) and less one to lut work reputation over her friend being happy, but at the same time i just feel like she would be wary of the trouble sneaking around could bring, with sara and gils specific positions. (again, if this was within a year or two the split, since i agree with your prediction of post 5x21ish for gsr getting together, it could carry extra weight)

catherine is an interesting case when we consider her potential reaction to learning grissom and sara are a couple because she wears so many hats.

not only is she grissom's oldest friend, but she is also the assistant supervisor on his team (which technically makes sara her subordinate, as well), both his and sara's coworker, and is herself someone with ambitions toward advancement in the department—roles which could very much be at odds with each other in this particular scenario.

toss in the fact that while grissom is her best friend, her relationship with sara (and her estimation of sara's motives) has traditionally been much more complicated, and what we've got is a recipe for messiness.

maybe, upon learning grissom and sara were together, catherine whose best friend is grissom might be happy her lifelong bachelor pal has finally found himself a woman, but catherine who has always thought of sara as a spoiled brat is doubtful sara is the right woman for him in the long run, and catherine the graveyard assistant supervisor is worried about possible repercussions for the team should the administration catch wind of this rules infraction, and catherine the teammate dreads what might happen if grissom and sara break up and turn the lab into a battleground between them, and catherine the player in department politics is considering how this whole situation will reflect on her once everything sees the light of day, whether she discloses what she knows to her superiors or not.

so, honestly, for as enmeshed as she is in the thick of things, with all of her potentially warring impulses and disparate loyalties, i think her reaction to gsr would very much depend on the variables of when she found out, how she found out, and what she found out.

first, i'll direct you to this post and this post, which discuss how i think catherine views grissom and sara's relationship prior to finding out they are together.

the tl;dr version is i believe when sara first moves to vegas, catherine assumes grissom and sara are sleeping together (a point she may or may not be right about, depending on how one interprets the gsr dynamic at that time).

she then further assumes they break up sometime mid-s1, circa the time grissom starts to pursue teri miller (a point she is wrong about, as, regardless of what is going on between grissom and sara at the time of sara's move—whether or not they are actually sleeping together—they never officially break up; hence all of the ambiguity between them during the show's early seasons).

in light of this latter assumption, catherine views the tension between grissom and sara during s1-s4 as part and parcel of them being exes with baggage who nevertheless have to work together.

perhaps ironically, once things start to even out between them during s5, she assumes they have finally, after so many years, gotten over each other and can be collegial, despite their history. (and, of course, she is very wrong about this point, as the true reason why the tension resolves is not because they've moved on from each other but in fact the opposite thing: i.e., because they've at last gotten together.) due to this misconception on her part, she is then taken totally by surprise on the tail end of s7 when she learns grissom and sara are a couple.

now.

it's worth noting that in addition to making some incorrect assumptions regarding the timeline of grissom and sara's romantic relationship, catherine also makes some incorrect assumptions regarding the nature of the relationship itself.

as i talk about in this post, she assumes both due to their age gap and her own biases regarding sex/love/relationships that what's between grissom and sara prior to the start of s1 is more of a sexual connection or infatuation and less a full-blown relationship or love match; an older professor having a midlife crisis, pursuing some young coquette student when he really ought to know better. she also assumes sara essentially uses grissom to score a primo job at the best crime lab in the country and then dumps him in mid-s1 once she has what she wants (hence, at least in part, why catherine has such a poor opinion of sara to start off with).

so.

all of the above said, i think catherine's reaction to finding out grissom and sara were a couple during s5/s6—and here i should probably clarify: i've revised my stance on the "when do you think they get together question?" over the years; at present, i actually place their consummation moment sometime before the events of episode 05x21 "committed," between episodes 05x19 "4 x 4" and 05x20 "hollywood brass"—would very much depend not only on timing and circumstance but also on how much what she witnessed between them either cohered to or diverged from her preconceived notions of their bond prior to the point of revelation.

in regards to the chronology: if catherine somehow stumbled upon grissom and sara's relationship before the team was reunited at the end of s5, i think she'd be more likely to take a hands-off approach. technically, the rules infraction would be a team graveyard issue, which she, as the swing shift supervisor, didn't really have a part in. though she might have advice for grissom as his friend, she would, at the end of the day, know whatever potential blowback there might be wouldn't actually touch her. so, convinced of her own safety, she could be more objective in her response.

conversely, if she were to find out they were together after the team's reunification sometime between the end of s5 and the end of s7, then she would probably feel more compelled (at least in most scenarios) to somehow involve herself, as the potential consequences of what they were doing might affect both her individually and the team at large. she'd have to consider not only the personal side of the equation (i.e., what she thought of the relationship as grissom's friend) but also the professional one (i.e., what she thought of the relationship as his assistant supervisor, sara's superior, and a coworker to both of them), looking out not only for herself but for team graveyard as a unit. in such a timeline, she would, in my view, be much more likely to directly intervene—though how she might do so would depend on the other factors of her discovery, as well.

for one thing, a lot would hinge on how she found out.

would it be the kind of situation where she encountered direct evidence grissom and sara were sleeping together—for example, glimpsed them out in public on a date, trading kisses over a candlelit dinner, or showed up to grissom's condo unannounced only to have sara open the door to her in a bathrobe—or would it be more of a deal where she happens on circumstantial evidence and slowly puts things together?

in the former case, she might feel much more urgency regarding the situation, because if she could stumble upon direct evidence by accident then so could someone else—like ecklie. in the latter case, she might have a more measured response, particularly if the clues she unearthed gave her some insight into the true nature of grissom and sara's bond.

because that's the other thing—

perhaps the major deciding factor in terms of her response would be what she made of the relationship itself.

simply put, if what she saw/heard/learned about grissom and sara as a couple gave her the impression they were just having an ill-advised fling based in lust rather than love (picking up where she assumed they left off back in 2000), she might be very against it.

after all, as a rule, catherine disapproves of romantic relationships between coworkers (a point she reiterates many a time over the course of the series, such as in episodes 04x12 "butterflied" and 06x03 "bite me"), not because she's against consenting adults having fun together or she's a stickler for the rules but because, on a practical level, she knows when those kinds of relationships run their courses, their dissolutions can have very real negative effects on office morale.

she has already—in her view—had to deal with the deleterious fallout of one gsr breakup (see episodes 02x15 "burden of proof," 04x07 "invisible evidence," 04x12 "butterflied," etc.), and she has no interest in being party to another.

—and in this scenario, where she misconstrues their connection as being largely superficial, she's gotta assume they would, inevitably, break up.

from her perspective, at some point, push would come to shove, and then she and the rest of team graveyard would be stuck dealing with a grissom and sara who were—once again, as she sees things—on the out and outs; doubtlessly filled with bad feelings for each other.

one of them might quit or else, even if they both were to stick it out, they might act so petulant and passive-aggressive and weird around each other in the aftermath that having them both on one team would be just patently miserable for everyone involved.

imagine if every day were like the one in episode 02x15 "burden of proof" but worse.

and that's just on the personal side of things.

professionally, if someone were to find out they'd been carrying on a relationship either while said relationship was in progress or after it was over, one or both of them might get fired or else one of them might have to switch teams.

and for as much as catherine and sara do often come to loggerheads over cases, catherine does ultimately respect sara as a criminalist and wants her to remain on the graveyard shift.

there might also be judicial consequences, in terms of their cases. any good defense lawyer worth their salt could get evidence tossed out on the grounds it was collected by a criminalist who had been sleeping with her boss (see episode 03x02 "the accused is entitled").

the team itself might be broken up (and catherine, as "an accessory to the crime," might be demoted or worse).

particularly in the wake of the team already having been broken up once (during s5), this time around, a more permanent dissolution might be affected.

so while i doubt catherine would rush to turn grissom and sara in in such a scenario—as she wouldn't want to endanger their jobs or their past convictions or the integrity of the team—she might still try her level best to discourage grissom from going forward with the relationship; tell him, in no uncertain terms, he should date a woman more his own age who was not also his employee, whether that were heather kessler (who, remember, catherine likes and thinks is a good match for him) or someone else.

grissom's reaction to this attempted intervention on her part would probably then determine her course of action going forward.

maybe he would open up to catherine, speaking candidly with her about his feelings for sara, explaining their relationship is not just some fleeting dalliance and sara is, in point of fact, the love of his life.

if so, then maybe catherine might give him the benefit of the doubt, willingly keeping his and sara's secret in deference to the obvious depth of their feelings for each other. she might also, as you suggest, encourage him to disclose the relationship to the administration, offering her support when he did so.

however, grissom being grissom, he typically plays his feelings very close to the chest. so if he were to, rather than unveil his love for sara to catherine, simply tell her, in so many words, to butt out, then she might not be as understanding/supportive.

again, i don't think she'd want to turn grissom and sara in because she wouldn't want them—and especially not grissom—to get fired. however, she is also much more politically savvy than grissom and aware of how "bad for business" it might be were grissom and sara's liaison to be discovered without them having come forward with it of their own volition. that so, she might end up telling him something along the lines of, "i'm not going to report you, but i'm also not going to lie for you, and if this blows up in your face, it's on you."

she might also insist on laying down some ground rules, such as that grissom and sara aren't to work cases together anymore unless she's there to supervise. and if they tried to argue with her about it, she would probably use some of grissom's own past words against him, reminding him that personal entanglements can reflect badly on the lab and end up costing them convictions.

i think, especially to start out, regardless of what grissom had or hadn't told her about his feelings for sara, she might still be wary with regards to sara's feelings for him, mistrusting her intentions and commitment, worrying she might end up hurting grissom in the end.

after all, in her view, gsr 1.0 ended with sara dumping grissom like a hot rock (“are you in denial? no, that's—no, no—way too analytical. wow, you got burned bad, huh? welcome to the club. i got third-degree burns from my marriage. happens to everybody. everybody just moves on”), so she might be concerned about the same thing happening again with this redux, particularly if she estimated grissom's level of devotion outweighed sara's.

as a protective friend, she might feel compelled to "keep an eye on sara" (and could potentially end up being a little passive-aggressive with her in the interim).

of course, in an ideal scenario, with further observation, she might become fully convinced grissom and sara were both in love and in love equally and not just fooling around on company time. if so, she would likely become more personally supportive of the relationship (particularly if she could see evidence of how happy it was making grissom).

however, given how secretive grissom and sara are, it's also possible she might not glean much insight into their feelings for each other even after some time and so continue to feel on-edge about them, waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop.

it's worth noting: catherine is, just generally speaking, cynical about love and relationships.

the really interesting question would be what she might do if she realized other people in the department either already had or were on the verge of finding out.

three people can keep a secret if two of them are dead, but multiply that by four or five or six, and suddenly the body count is getting pretty high.

if grissom and sara didn't come forward on their own, she might eventually feel compelled to issue an ultimatum—for the good of the team, for the good of the lab; for the sake of everyone's sanities—and particularly if she felt the team and/or its investigative integrity were in danger.

conversely.

in a scenario where she were to realize grissom and sara were in love with each other (and not just fucking around) pretty much from the get-go, her reaction might be different from the start.

maybe in this situation, she might be openly supportive right away, either promising to help keep their secret or encouraging them to self-report to hr; perhaps she might help them brainstorm ideas as to how they could have their cake and eat it too (i.e., how they could both remain on the same forensics team while also maintaining an open romantic relationship), for example, offering, as per ecklie's canonical suggestion in episode 08x02 "a la cart," to directly supervise sara herself or to split more of the overall supervisory duties between herself and grissom.

she might still, of course, insist on taking precautions in the meanwhile, forbidding them from working the same investigations without supervision and documenting their professional interactions—for example, being present when grissom delivers sara's evaluations—so once everything were to finally become public, they could all be on the up and ups.

of course, even in a situation where she were convinced grissom and sara were in love with and committed to each other from the start, she still, for all her pessimism about love and poor opinions of sara's maturity level, might harbor some secret doubts regarding the long-term viability of the relationship, though she'd probably be unlikely to voice them.

as for the personal element of it all, again, i think her reaction would depend on how she perceived the relationship itself.

if she thought what was going on between grissom and sara was just a glorified booty call, i think she'd mostly be annoyed and impatient with it.

for all the years she spent telling grissom he needed to get laid, she never imagined he would finally heed her advice with his fifteen-years-younger subordinate.

she'd wonder: couldn't he have picked someone he didn't work with—and especially someone who wasn't his employee? someone who wasn't sara?

while grissom and sara do have history together and catherine knows they do, the very fact of that history would convince her they shouldn't try things again. in her view, if their relationship didn't work out the first time around, then there is no use in getting back on the ride. she broke up and got back together with eddie enough times before they finally divorced once and for all to know as much.

in such a scenario, she'd definitely try to talk grissom out of making what she viewed as a big mistake and would take some serious convincing to be brought around not only to the notion that the relationship was legitimate but also that it was a good idea.

even if grissom flat-out told catherine he was in love with sara and she believed him, she might still have so qualms about the sara of it all. again, as stated above, she has reason to believe that sara has in the past "chewed grissom up and spit him out," which might make her feel defensive of him and hostile toward her. she also, just generally, thinks of sara as immature, so even if she weren't doubtful of sara's feelings for grissom in themselves, she might still feel the relationship was ill-fated because sara was a bad match for grissom. again, it might take a lot to bring her around to thinking, "you know what? they really are actually good together. sara is worthy of him."

but more happily, if it were a scenario where she was convinced grissom and sara's love was genuine on both sides and where she had come around to the idea of sara's devotion—imo, she would be more likely to approve of sara later on, in late s6 or early s7, than she would earlier in the game, like in late s5—then maybe she might find herself pleasantly surprised.

particularly if she got to see them together and get a feel for their dynamic, she might come to understand they are actually the best things for each other.

she might always be a little surprised by the mechanics of how they work—who would've thought sara would ever be such a levelheaded and calming influence on grissom or that grissom could be so openly affectionate and emotional about sara?—but surprised in a good way; sort of infinitely curious about them. like, "huh. who knew?"

anyway, in any scenario, i agree catherine would probably be unlikely to rat grissom and sara out, as she'd know doing so could have some very serious ramifications for them as individuals/a couple and for the team overall. more probably, she would confront either grissom individually or grissom and sara as a couple and either urge them to reconsider the relationship or to report it, depending on the circs. though she might still engage in some ass-covering (such as by implementing some of the work policies described above), i think she'd ultimately prefer to handle the matter in-house if possible.

while she probably would have some anxiety about the situation for as long as grissom and sara's relationship remained hidden from the administration and she was their secret-keeper, i think once they came out, if everything went well, she'd roll with it and might actually end up being very happy for them—particularly if she could see they were both happy.

if she were able to see evidence of sara being a good partner for grissom and (in general) comporting herself as a responsible adult, then her personal opinion of her would likely more quickly improve than in canon it does. they might get to the same place in s5 that in canon they only reach by s7 (or, really, s10).

though catherine herself is not wired for domesticity in the way grissom and sara are, i think she'd eventually be able to see what they have works well for them and come to respect it.

The first anime I ever watched to the end by choice was Soul Eater (It's still one of my favorites) and the first mangas I ever read was Assassination Classroom and Tokyo ESP.

I want to go into research after I complete undergrad. Lol I am not doing anything past a Master's I'll break down.

I fucking love V8. Like the actual tomato juice ones. The spicy hot one is superior, make sure it has a chill. Just delicious.

TDLR; Why Seigfried Didn’t Work As A Kaiba Expy, He Wasn’t Neurodivergent

Hi everyone! While I’m writing the next chapter and trying to survive Capitalism despite living its real-time collapse (I work two jobs, why chapter production is slow these days), I’d like to make a post like this while it’s still Autism Awareness month. Now, not to say you can’t enjoy the pink haired frilly goofy man. I never have though. I felt like he was a let down after Dartz, who is my favorite villain of Yugioh, I SAID WHAT I SAID. And I’m also saying you can enjoy your villains of Yugioh, and I will enjoy mine. All that out of the way, I would like to dive into an analysis of Seto Kaiba and who I felt were his good expies, Noa/Noah and Alister/Amelda. Anyone who has autism (myself included, I’m not 100% on paper yet but I’ve had multiple doctors agree with me), you know. There’s a Neurodivergence ESP, when you are talking to someone you just Know when someone else just isn’t neurotypical This is based off of their canon, observable in the show behaviors, trying not to lean into anything headcanon unless it slightly grays the area a little. Using dub names but will tag original names later (I just don’t like Amelda as a name...) But first starting with Seto himself, he’s very blunt and impulsive. Which isn’t helped by the fact he’s got a lot of money. So he can act on literally every impulsive thought he has. Man probably filmed that idea to send Duel Monsters cards into space the minute he had it in GX. He’s very egocentric, which a lot of people get confused with his arrogance. Not that he’s not both, but he really genuinely believes that any time his company is under attack, it’s because someone’s trying to take it over. Not that it’s the one sure-fire way to draw him out of hiding, it’s that everyone is out to get him. Always! (as an example, during Season Four his company gets bought out by the villains. He’s convinced this was ALL a ploy to take it over, when really Dartz needs him out in the open because he needs to kill him.) His special interest is Duel Monsters. Literally all his money comes from making electronics and technology specifically for playing his special interest. And he’s richer THAN the person he pays royalties to because Seto doesn’t own Duel Monsters. Pegasus does. All Seto did was invent the technology to play it, and fixing the rules to actually make the game playable (The rules of Battle City were his, after all.) He’s pretty close to being nonverbal, a LOT of Kaiba’s lines are actually thoughts in his head rather than stuff he says out loud, except when he’s delivering snarky comments or talking to Mokuba. He’s got a perpetually weird relationship with the protagonists because he’s not good with social cues or interacting with people in general. Not that he wouldn’t die for them, he’s not good at expressing it though. They’re his friends, but they gotta squint to hear what he’s actually saying. ----- Noah’s is going to be a lot shorter as far as canon behaviors go since we only have a few episodes with him really, and I’d also think of him as having both BPD and autism (which happens co morbidly, around 15% of BPD patients also meet the criteria for having ASD.) (There’s also that they all have some very intense levels of PTSD, but that’s another kettle of horses.) His biggest sign that he’s both is his emotional state of being when we encounter him in his half of Season Three. Not to say that his environment didn’t help him any, but I think it’d just made it more obvious. Both conditions affect mood stability, which cause intense emotions and a grandiose sense of self at the same time. But there’s also a sense of emptiness and a negative impact on self esteem, a diffuse of self (in TVTropes words, he definitely has a Superiority-Inferiority Complex.) Much like Seto, as well, social cues aren’t something he excels in. The idea of anyone being nice to him is confusing, but he really develops one bond (Mokuba), and he convinces himself he needs to die for him and the people he brought into the Digital World. But a few scenes before he steals Mokuba’s body briefly, he can’t comprehend why someone is being nice to him. He thinks he’s being slow and steady with the reveal he’s about to drop on the protagonists of being Gozoboro’s son, but remember that his entire arc is only a few hours of one day in Battle City (when they cut to Yami Marik being like ‘.... Where the hell did everyone go?’), so they’re not really there long before he starts traumadumping and infodumping about his own monsters. He’s so socially deprived that he’s A) going to tell you all what he’s been through because all he wanted was to be loved by someone who couldn’t possibly love him, and B) He’s going to tell you about his niche interest in computer programming to make the world he’s in more interesting, as well as the extremely niche tidbits of information he has about Spirit Monsters and their development in the game of DM. (Remember, the Deck Master system and the rules of their abilities is the stuff he made up. Pegasus still made the Spirit Monsters, don’t let the rules of the Season throw you. They’re using a database of every known card, they’re in a computer, and it doesn’t trip up the rule of Season Four of the Orichalcos. Because it’s being used by one specific cult and no one else. The cards in Noah’s deck, broken effects and all, actually existed in-universe, and given how all of the protagonists had never heard of them until the duel with Noah, despite Solomon owning a Card Shop and there being more in Domino, that means he was into the REALLY obscure cards of the game.) ---- Alister is probably the most neurodivergent of them all, to start he has a very one-track mind ability to hyperfocus. The only thing on his mind ever is getting revenge on Seto Kaiba because he’s the living body still. If Alister COULD kill Gozoboro still, he would. Unquestioningly. He’s got a very strong sense of justice powered by a black-and-white morality way of thinking. He is definitely someone you want in your cult to destroy the world, it takes very little convincing that someone is evil and needs to be destroyed. And he can’t be swayed from his opinions, either. He’s got very intense feelings that are being taken advantage of. He’s got a very declarative memory and trauma dumps with very little prompting. He’s got a comfort item that ties into his traumas, of course. He’s got some odd reactions too and is strangely very naive despite everything (aside from the normal response of ‘Who are you?’, doesn’t seem to question that he’s straight up hallucinating/receiving a mental link directly to Dartz the first time they ever speak. Not a ‘what the hell is going on, what is happening, where did the world go’, ect, ect. Just ‘This person can tell me what happened and who hurt me? Okay.’ ) Alister’s also got issues with social situations, the only friends he has you can count on one hand. And that comes with its own weird rules of That’s Just How They Talk To Each Other. (He does love Raphael and Valon, even saying that he and his ‘new family’ are saving the world.) Also, this one is semi-canon, semi- head canon, hence the disclaimer earlier. He’s got sensory issues and is sensitive to light (he wears sunglasses inside of buildings, and during the nighttime.) And his clothing, at least to me, suggest he gets hot easily but still needs pressure due to an aversion to touch. (His shirt is midriff exposing, but he also has like eight belts and a huge ass trench coat on. And heat intolerance is a littler-known sign of autism) ---- I never got anything that deep out of Seigfried. He really just that butthurt about his company. While my story doesn’t go past Season Four, I know how I’d fix Season Five.

jack x phryne from miss fisher’s murder mysteries - the chemistry is UNMATCHED. the tension is on a whole other level i have never been so intensely wishing for something to happen. they’re a great duo and it’s just so fun to watch them

my ultimate fav characters in chronological order, but i only talk about if theyd be stoners.

-scooby doo: ULTIMATE STONER DOG, psuedo canonically a stoner

-hanna marin: only smokes socially, and pretty rarely. probably used to quite a bit with mona. edibles are her FAV. i absolutely see her in seasons 1-3 as a nic kid tho. like if nic sticks existed back then the way they are now??? she and mona would be those girls vaping in the bathroom during lunch LOL (and s3 she'd be a sad nic kid cus mona is gone and shes trying to quit). she and caleb probably smoke a LOOOT in season 5 though like fr. and i think she'd always like thc vapes. spencer doesnt smoke with her cus yk. her Issues. but i think hanna smoked emily up to comfort emily after maya, and then probably later on when she was done w swimming and had body pains. she and aria smoke occasionally and get silly

-jay walker: totally gets anxious/paranoid when hes high. was probably super not into it but kai and nya seduced him LMAO. he doesnt like it tho. he also gives nic kid vibes but like. vitamin vapes LMAO he has an oral fixation sorry. but he only buys blue vapes bc its his Brand. also he usually likes those flavors.

-sakura kyoko: realistically, based on location, not a stoner. however if she was in the states she'd probably be a stoner. sadly shes lived on the streets from such a young age, much worse things could happen to her. including worse drugs. but id like to think she wouldnt bc of her headstrongness and stubbornness and whatnot. but weed? hell yea. she probably only smokes alone, she doesnt like ppl seeing her vunerable, and it helps her sleep. madoka encourages her to stop, esp when kyoko smokes cigarettes around them, and kyoko often blows puffs of smoke at sayaka in response and madoka is like D: mami also tries to get kyoko to stop but kyokos like uhhh no shut up. sayaka kinda wants to try but its nervous. also, kyoko harshly judges nic stick kids (cough sayaka cough) cus she feels cigarettes are superior

mizusawa matsuri: again, based on location, probably not a stoner. in the states, omg. yes. matsuri would be such a lil pothead i love that for her. she thinks it makes her look cool 😭 esp when yuzu is like "matsuri omg put ur cigarette out" and she gets to go "its not a cigarette 😎." has probably laced something she brought to a gathering to get everyone high without them knowing because shes yk. fucked up LOL. she wants to get mei high so badly but mei knows better and doesnt eat/drink anything matsuri offers. but yea matsuri likes corrupting people. she'd always be peer pressuring nene into smoking tbh. but she gets to smoke w harumi sometimes, and once w her and yuzu. she also likes vapes, both nic and thc.

-beth greene: no 😭 not a stoner tbh. shes a happy drunk but i picture her throwing up when she tries to smoke LMAO her friends probably had her try and she got sick. like i wanna say yes but yea. no. maybe edibles. she'd probably likes gummies

-trini (power rangers 2017): probably smokes weed somewhat regularly but not necessarily a stoner. thinks cigarettes are gross and makes fun of kids who vape (kim absolutely has a lowkey nic addiction bc shes a vaper and trini loves ragging on her for it)

-toni topaz(doesnt really count, i dont watch or follow the show. i liked her when she was first around): yes. totally smokes w sweet pea and fangs

-emily junk: not a stoner but she smokes socially in college. beca, stacie, and cr invite her to join their smoke session one day. she coughs a LOT and is probably paranoid the first few times but then she gets really giggly. when the bellas graduate get develops a slight reliance, which happens again in her senior year during finals. but shes fine ! shes just got an addictive personality

-kate bishop: i so badly want to say yes but shes canonically a narc. like she literally made it her mission to hunt down this dude who was selling weed just cus she didnt know he had a license for it LMAO

-natalie scatorccio: the only actual canonical stoner on this list. nats a pothead and i love her for it. she smokes cigarettes regularly too, but if vapes were around in 1996 she wouldve been making fun of everyone who uses them
