#either 'he was a good kind and perfect moral compass' (lol no)

I've been thinking about Mollymauk, as I'm periodically wont to do, and the fandom discussion about him as a moral compass. Because the interesting thing here is, Molly wasn’t a very moral character. He was an unrepentant scammer. He had no respect for interpersonal boundaries and would deliberately push and break them. Generally, he was an asshole. As far as actually having a strong moral stance I would say Fjord was the standout of early m9, and to some extent Beau.
But here’s the thing: almost all of early m9 thought of themselves as horrible people. Fjord had been bullied so bad growing up that he still dealt with self-hate from it, and now suffered from survivor's guilt to boot. Caleb had killed his own parents. Beau, while she hated her dad, also had internalized self-hate and on some level thought she’d been such a shitty daughter she deserved his treatment. Nott was stuck in a body she considered monstrous. Yasha had survivor's guilt and knew she’d done bad things in her blank spots. Even when they did good, they didn’t think of themselves as good. Most of them were suspicious and asocial and faced the world with the same kind of distrust they expected to be (and were experienced in being) met with. (Jester was an exception, an agent of neither good nor bad but of amoral chaos)
But Molly was different. He was outspoken about loving life and people. He wanted to spread joy, even to people he didnt know or had even met: he slipped coin into people's pockets, hid a silver in a tree just so some stranger would one day be happy to find it. He openly cared for the party early on; was one of the first to step in and help Caleb when he went catatonic in battle. Above all, Molly had rules: where everyone else would agonize over what was the right or wrong or smart thing to do, Molly loudly proclaimed we don't leave people behind, and we leave every place better than we found it.
But the thing about Molly’s rules was, they were largely a cover. While the rest of the m9 thought they were bad even as they did good, Molly thought of himself as good even as he did bad. He scammed people, but made it a good and memorable experience, therefore thinking he gave more than he took. He charmed Nott and Fjord without consent, and when confronted would claim it was to help them. Out of the group, Beau saw through this, not because she was a better person but because she was a cynic. She saw that he caused harm, just as she did, and was personally affronted that he still thought of himself as good and tried to leave people happy, whereas she deliberately left every place worse than she found it.
I see Molly as a moral compass of the group not because he was actually any more moral than them, but because they made him their template. He was joy and brightness and he died trying to save them because it was the right thing to do, and they all chose to honor him by emulating his rules more than Molly himself ever did, because to them it was more than just a cover, backed up by genuine moral thought and discussion rather than small gestures. He taught them that it was possible to be kind of a shit person and still be good, to still love yourself and others. The idealized Molly they created never existed, and finally died for good when they resurrected him in the end and were met with a stranger, who they welcomed with the same love and care they would've expected Molly to show them.

ough I am so sorry if your askbox is closed for the matchup thing, the pinned post says it’s open but the actual like, button, says it’s closed. So if it is just ignore this lmao.
ANYWAY my tavs name is Dmtryo and I’m gonna be submitting this for him :0
He’s a lolth drow, and a pretty ambivalent durge, he’s meant to be a bad person, but not a tried and true villain yk? Still saved the gate and allat but also fucked over isobel and got the slayer form bc he thought the prize might be cool.
Masc pref, poly or mono is fine!
Traits (bc most of them can’t be cleanly sorted into good and bad)
hugely protective of the things and people he likes. (Often to the point of excess.)
Seems like a shit show. Very well put together.
Often comes off as cold, but is far friendlier than people think. (As long as he doesn’t perceive you as a threat)
Will very happily murder anyone who does come across as a threat.
Brings his partner the severed limbs or bones of the creatures he has killed like some kind of fucked up cat
Violence is his go to solution for conflict but he is hesitant to kill innocents (unless he’s getting paid)
On the note of getting paid, there’s very little he won’t do for a pouch of gold and the promise of gore.
A/N: Hey, no prob! @cakeboxie (LOVE your blog handle btw lol) I just waited until the ask box reopened to answer this, lol. So now that the time has come… Let me see… Hmm. Because you specified you wanted a male match, I match your Tav with… Astarion!
Tumblr media
🩸Astarion would be the perfect match for your Dmtryo! Astarion is pretty ambivalent himself- he’s certainly not a golden hero, but I couldn't exactly call him a villain either. He does possess a moral compass, but it’s broken, and often centered around what’s best for himself, which is one of the reasons I think he and Dmtryo would be good together.
Astarion is fiercely protective of his things, and the people he finds himself coming to love. Everything he ever had was once taken away from him by Cazador, so anything he does manage to attain, be it physical objects or relationships, he feels he must guard intensely. Once Astarion falls for Dmtryo he is very protective, almost possessive over him. Realistically, Astarion knows that Dmtryo is his, but that doesn’t stop him from being suspicious of every NPC they talk to. I mean, who knows? What if they’d try and steal his love? He has to stay on guard.
Although he’s not a drow himself, Astarion is no stranger to fleeing from the sunlight, and operating in the dark. He’s lived as a vampire spawn for two-hundred years after all. Although he may harbor some residual suspicions about lolth-sworn drow, so long as Dmtryo’s loyalty to Astarion and vice versa comes before their loyalty to any God, Astarion has no qualms about being partners with a lolth-sworn drow.
I also loved how you described Dmytro as a fucked up cat because if any of the companions were to be compared to a cat, it’s Astarion. He’s sneaky, and secretive, and very persnickety when it comes to certain things. He also has a tendency to swat/claw anyone he perceives as dangerous, and being rather vulnerable, that means most people he meets end up on the other side of his blade. But the great thing is that it isn't a problem for Dmytro. Dismembering or murdering people, so long as it’s the right people, is just fine with him!
I can honestly see either Spawn!Astarion or Ascended!Astarion working out with Dmytro long term as well. Spawn!Astarion more so if your Dmytro chooses to try and fight the dark urge inside him, and Ascended!Astarion if Dmytro chooses to embrace his Bhalspawn heritage.
Either way they end up a notorious power couple, one very few in Baldur’s Gate would dare to cross.
Be it by taking on mercenary jobs or ruling as their respective godly selves, I see a very lucrative, very influential couplet taking charge of their future. ;)

Their types!
Sans: he likes gentle and intelligent people. Someone he can trust and be comfortable with, and one who’s clever enough to follow him when he’s talking about what he loves. Bonus points for people with good senses of humor!
Papyrus: he needs someone with passion! Someone who can enjoy life with him! Doesn’t matter what they’re passionate about, papyrus just loves seeing the sparkle in their eyes. Someone with good morals is a must too. Papyrus needs someone who can match him there
Star: he wants someone with a drive to improve in life and a touch of adventure! High energy people are preferred cause he can be a bit much for a partner who struggles to keep up with him. Star just wants someone he can call an equal, who can match him in positivity and drive
Honey: he’s attracted to responsibility. Well put together people and organized people catch his eye the easiest. He does tend to lean more towards outgoing and confident personalities but can fall just as easily for the shy types if he gets a glimpse of that responsibility he looks for. Bonus points for being good with kids
Red: he likes gentle and silly people. Someone who’s kind and soft but can also joke around. Don’t mistake kindness for being a doormat, they still need to be able to correct red if he’s being a butthead lol
Edge: he likes them soft and a bit innocent. Edge wants to be the knight in shining armor and so he needs a SO who’s willing to let him be a bit protective. Really affectionate people catch his attention fastest.
Mal: he loves sass, fiery tempers and lots of passion. Mal loves a good argument, it gets him going like nothing else. Of course nothing actually mean. It’s all in good fun, so someone who has a thick skin is perfect for him
Cash: he loves a good girl/boy. Someone with a strong moral compass. Someone who will help him be a better person, make him want to be. And a good sense of humor is a must for him.
Oak: he just wants someone who will take him seriously, who won’t treat him like he’s invalid or like a child. Oak knows his limits.
Willow: he wants someone he can care for and fuss over, but he needs someone who will do the same for him. Willow does great with someone’s who’s main love language is acts of service.
Charm: patience. That’s the biggest quality his partner has to have because charm will be the slowest of burns when it comes to actual commitment.
Sugar: with Winnie in the picture now, sugar is much more selective in who he dates. He has to think of his daughter first. So only someone who likes kids of course, but also someone who is kind and honest and open with him.
Lord: he’s attracted to strength and success. It comes from a desire to be protected. Any partner of lords would have to have a fair bit of patience though, and a gentle side. He’s a skittish guy and needs someone who is willing to wait for him to come out of his shell
Mutt: you have no idea what attracts him to you. Mutt has no type. Just “not a murderer” or “my brother doesn’t hate them” as requirements. Unfortunately this doesn’t mean mutt is easy to get close to. Nobody knows what makes him decide to like someone either
Wine: he likes someone who’s intelligent enough to be good conversation, but either naive enough to not notice his shady side, or just plain doesn’t care. He does have a soft spot for shy people. He likes to fluster them
Coffee: he’s only attracted to those he has a close friendship with, so getting with coffee is a real slow burn. He has no preference for personality but it helps liking some of the same things as him
Pop: he just wants someone he can be himself with. Pop is a weirdo and he knows it, so somebody nonjudgmental is key. Preferably someone a little goofy too
Rhythm: he loves a daring brave type of person. Someone who can sweep him off his feet. Adventurous interesting people catch his attention the easiest. Rhythm loves a good story
Pluto: he needs someone who will take him seriously, who won’t baby him. Pluto may be shy, adorable and cuddly, but he’s also a super genius and he really wants to be treated like the independent adult he is.
Jupiter: he loves a bit of sass in his partner, someone who will tell him off if he’s being dumb, which is pretty often lol. Jupiter is attracted to the strong independent type
G: he loves his lovers bossy and domineering lol. But also rather raunchy too. Someone with the good humor to mess around with him but also someone with the confidence and audacity to keep him humble lol
Green: he likes respect and gentlemanly manners in a SO. Someone who can match his class. But green has a secret bad side. Someone who’s adventurous is also appreciated
Peaches: he wants a family guy/gal. Someone who wants to settle and have a large family with him. Someone who loves the country is a must, and sweet and affectionate personalities are preferred, but he’s also crushed on more serious people before too
Rancher: he loves having the best of both words. Someone adventurous and a bit mischievous but also someone who can settle and is a hard worker. Rancher needs a person serious enough to be good for the long haul, but spicy enough to compliment when he’s feeling a bit crazy lol
Snipe: patience, brains, patience, a thick skin, patience loyalty and did I mention patience? Snipe is a paranoid guy and needs someone who won’t be run off by his need for reassurance
Bruiser: he needs a partner who’s tough enough to keep up with him but who lets him be free. Bruiser is a secretive kind of guy, so he needs someone who’d respect his privacy. Bruiser won’t hide anything dangerous from a long term partner, but even his soulmate he’d have a few secrets from.
Ace: he needs someone forgiving and a good communicator. Ace doesn’t think like other people do, but if he ever fell for someone he’d definitely try. So somebody with the patience to spell out their feelings is perfect for him
Slim: he likes someone he can be comfortable around. So safe and easy going people. And slim does prefer people he shares interests with. He can fall for shy ones but he crushes on sassy people faster
Butch: bold, passionate and affectionate is exactly what butch wants and needs. Someone who won’t let him walk all over them but will match his affections
Boss: he prefers a practical partner, someone who’s respectful and has a good head on their shoulders. Basically the opposite of his family lol. He needs an ally in his world of craziness. But he’s not all serious, someone who will entertain boss silly side is perfect
Rust: since the famine, rust has realized he has a strong desire for a family, so someone who’s open to children is a must. He likes affectionate and honest partners best, but prefers more relaxed personalities over wild hyper types most of the time
Noir: he’s a grump and has given up on his old dream of being the night in shining armor, but that doesn’t change his taste for softies. Noir likes cheerful bubbly and soft people best. His opposite basically
Lilac: he wants someone who won’t ever baby him or fuss over him. Lilac is a proud monster and hates any feeling of being trapped or smothered. He needs a partner who gives him his space while being a close companion
Basil: he just wants a little kindness in his life. Someone cuddly and sweet with him. Basil craves affection and stability in his partners
Gears: he’s a little diva and it shows in his taste in partners. Gears likes affectionate and generous people who will shower him in love and attention. Don’t worry cause gears gives just as much as his partner puts in a relationship!
Compass: he likes curious and adventurous people. Compass has a quiet protective nature, but also a sense of wonder. So someone who can be his travel companion is perfect. As long as they sometimes let him fuss over them.
Lush: he loves a humble and loyal partner. Lush is a spoiler and plenty have taken advantage of his wealth before. Someone who doesn’t take him for granted will have a loyal lover for life
Pepper: he’s a classy diva and likes a partner who’s good with their words and takes care of themself. But also someone who’s genuine with pepper, who likes him for his personality, not his earth and looks
Sparks: passion. That’s all he wants in a partner. Someone who just loves him as deeply as he loves them. And preferably someone who treats him good too but he doesn’t have the best track record for that bit. Luckily his friends have his back
Salt: he likes them sweet and awkward, bonus points for shy ones. Salt loves bringing them out of their shells and seeing the results.
Orion: he loves playful and adventurous people! Someone he can fun with. Orion hates being bored so needs a partner who’s always up to try something new
Atlas: he wants a bad boy/girl. He wants someone exciting, that will make him feel wild and attractive. Confidence is key for gaining atlas
Cider: he wants someone loyal who will integrate well into his family, so an adaptable personality is great to. And he definitely prefers more social extroverted people
Barley: he wants someone who will put him and their dreams first, social norms be damned. Barley wants a rebel, someone who will scandalize his family with him lol
Ram: ram is tired of the fight and just wants someone calm to settle down with. And someone who is willing to be the brains of his life. He’ll happily be the brawn, he knows how to play to his strengths. He likes nonjudgmental people who don’t look down on him for being less well read
Pitch: he kinda hates people so getting close to him takes time and a willingness to be quiet lol. Pitch likes intelligent and relaxed people. Someone who will give him the space he needs. But once you have his affection, you get a thoughtful and loyal partner
Moose: after loosing his first one, moose longs for a family again. He wants someone to settle with but wants to take it slow. Moose likes bubbly people with a bit of bite to them, and a protective streak
Maple: he prizes honesty and bluntness cause he’s oblivious as hell and needs that lol. Also someone who will be goofy with him. Maple just wants a bestie he sometimes kisses
Fisher: he likes his partners artsy and shy. Fisher likes people who are easily flustered and enjoys messing with them. But he also likes how small they seem. It makes him want to shower them in affection. He’s a caring soul
Jasper: he wants adventure and loyalty! Someone who will stick to his side wherever he goes. Jasper is social so an extroverted partner is best, but he can work with a more interpreters person too.
Finn: he’s spent his whole life sacrificing for others, it’s time someone takes care of him for a change. Finn is kind and will give anyone a chance, but he’d be truly happy with a partner who spoiled him like he deserves, and someone who sticks up for him. Finn is incredibly generous and would give his partner the world if he could
Sails: he loves them bossy and grumpy lol. Something about it really gets him going, but a small part of sails also knows he kinda needs that in his life. He’s been spoiled too much by his bro and he craves authority
Hook: he only crushes on sweethearts. Innocent kind and soft. And hook falls real easily. Bonus points for artists. Unfortunately having a job that has him living on the sea most of his life makes dating tricky. So his partner would either have to be ok with a somewhat long distance relationship, or join him on the ship
Captain: he wants an equal in almost every way. Captain prizes strength and intelligence, so his SO has to be impressive in at least one of those categories. Someone with a sharp tongue will catch his eye easier than more laid back people too
Quill: he likes loud and outgoing partners. Which is funny since he’s a huge shy introvert. He likes them because they take the spotlight off himself. He can ease back into the background and just be his partners happy support
Crow: he loves divas. Crow wants someone to spoil rotten. And he can’t help but find vanity endearing lol. As long as they treat him kindly in return he’s happy
Lens: he wants someone who will be honest with him, who won’t sugarcoat his faults. But also someone who will be kind with him. Lens gravitates towards more positive people. Having them in his life helps make his hard days a little less dark
Cricket: he values strength, honesty and someone with a good sense of humor or thick skin. You need it to be with cricket. He’s temperamental and isn’t the monster for people who take things too seriously. But if you stay loyal, you’ll have a partner for life
Tempo: he’s happy in his own little world so it’s tricky getting tempos attention. He loves art and music, so he’s attracted to someone who’s talented in one of those. Or someone who’s a huge fan of them. Tempo is strictly asexual, so he’s not good for a partner who wants anything more than a cuddle. And hes really open about that
Vibrato: he’s a bit naive and just too trusting, so vibrato needs a protector. And he does like that. He’s hoping to find his own knight in shining armor someday. Vibrato likes classy and bubbly people. Someone with a lot of cheer but dignity too.

Superman & Wonder Woman: Being True
Tumblr media
There seems to be this notion that when Superman and Wonder Woman are together, they see themselves as above humans or they lose their humanity is utter bullshit. There has been zero evidence of this in canon comics. Using goofy alternate shit like Injustice doesn’t make the argument either.
It was also said that they bring out uncomfortableness. Why? Because it’s acknowledged that they are different and not conforming to what’s acceptable as the norm? Well so be it. In the real world, no one lives for someone else’s comfort. You can miss me with that selfish entitled bullshit.
There are claims Superman and Wonder Woman needing to be anchored to human love interests to be relatable or lower themselves to be “normal”. No, no, hell, no. Lois Lane and Steve Trevor are not why Clark and Diana are the heroes they are. Clark and Diana were heroes, had their purpose way before them. Lois and Steve aren’t and should never be their motivation to do what’s right and what they were meant to do and be. Clark and Diana are far more “human” than any normal human any damn way. They selflessly make shit ton of sacrifices without any hesitation. What they do as individuals or a couple is on extraordinary levels and there’s nothing wrong with that. Flying across the skies like free birds is such a beautiful thing. Trying to cage these birds, ground and limit them is unnecessary and a shame.
As best friends with unresolved, underlying feelings or the Power Couple, it has always been established, their duty as heroes come first. They have been each other’s moral compasses, written to have complexed conversations about their purposes, the view of the world, open to each other about their deepest feelings etc.
Tumblr media
To reiterate this again, Kal-El is from a different planet entirely. He is an alien. He may look human in appearance but he is not. He was raised to pretend to be normal but he is not normal. Yes, the Kents raised him with good morals and values but that sure as hell does not mean, he had to grow up to reject his heritage, and keep pretending to fit in and the mental gymnastics. Pre-Crisis and New52 Superman understood this assignment. Post crisis Superman, not so much. Superman was once the Champion of the Oppressed. He was to aspire and lead to better. To make a difference in a world of corruption. What happened to that? Now he is just stagnant, stuck in a comfort zone of pretending, romanticizing lies and being unethical at times. Protector of an outdated view and status quo. As well the obnoxious problematic depiction from the beginning of Rebirth of perfect privileged spoon-fed all American family that basically screwed up DC continuity even more so to force it as the “truth” or “real”. Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent should be one in the same. Not choosing one over the other as one is fake/disguise. Ironically, in the animated adaption of “Throne of Atlantis”, Clark himself said to not be “one of them, but to blend in.” This was before the asspulled contrived asinine 180 of his character for Death of Superman adaption.
Tumblr media
Diana of Themyscira is a Princess from a secluded island that was separated from man’s world for its chaotic bullshit. Yet, she wanted to explore the world, learn and teach, bring peace and people together. She celebrates life and love, stands for truth with one self and others. Motivate and fight for equality and the protection of women and children. Majority of Diana’s iterations have been consistent with this attitude. Except rebirth, who had to be thrown into a mental institution and losing herself because spiteful writer’s bias. You really expect me to believe homegirl was living a lie and in some kind of illusion within her mind or whatever for 10 years? LOL no. Although, she is a DemiGoddess, Diana is still very much an earth woman. And I mean that literally if we go with the clay origin.
What I loved about new52 Superman was his motivation to be Superman was the PEOPLE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Diana is the Goddess of Truth after all. To hide who you are, what you love and enjoy is a disservice to oneself.
Tumblr media
The two together bring something unique and challenging. They have their similarities and differences that compliment.
Tumblr media
But they don’t change who they are for one or the other. They learn from each other, accept even more of each other, and grow together as a couple.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this day and age, we celebrate what makes us stand out and be our unique selves. Superman and Wonder Woman are suppose to THE epitome of this!

I need to complain and I feel like you'd understand
I hate it when Kunikida is reduced to workworkworkworkwork by the fandom! yes he's hardworking and organized and maybe a little too obsessed with perfection but he's still human! I just read a fic where Atsushi was completely exhausted, and the author (no hate intended! The rest of the story was great) had Kunikida yell at him for being late and I just think... he wouldn't do that. He is kind at heart, and probably would rather have Atsushi sit down and give him a (worried and fond) lecture about not overworking himself... or idk maybe it's just me.
but there's definitely more to Kunikida than workworkdamnyoudazaiworkworkwork. I wish the fandom would explore it more.
You’re so right, anon. This is something I’ve been holding inside because I felt like nobody cared about him or this anyways, I’m so glad you wrote it to me.
This will be some kind of a hot take maybe, but I despise fanon Kunikida. He is so mischaracterised, so boiled down to 2 dimensions with absolutely no depth, it’s almost like he’s there only to symbolise either a comedic anger or a stereotypical workaholic man with no emotions, no quirks, no personality. I once saw a story that claimed that he had never smiled once. Are you kidding me? Y’all know that he is a human being that is capable of feeling the emotion called happiness, right?
I understand it so well, sadly. I’ve been on here for at least 6-7 months and the amount of times where I experienced something of that kind is unbelievable. Just as an example, an author had written multicharacter-comfort headcanons, and when you scrolled down to Kunikida’s part it would say “he probably isn’t good at comforting so idk” or something of that kind. It had hurt me so much because, you know, who likes being told that their comfort character cannot actually comfort people?
There is the equation of Kunikida = work, Kunikida = boredom, Kunikida = stupid ideals lol etc. among the fandom, yes. I do think it’s also derived from the franchise itself. Firstly, his ‘main’ character arc (I consider the Hunting Dogs arc as such) isn’t animated yet and there are so many anime-onlys in the fandom. I think another factor is that we’re given absolutely nothing about his past, which kind of dehumanises him honestly. You know how many episodes/arcs/light novels are there just to discover Dazai more deeply, for instance. We don’t have that for Kunikida. And I honestly don’t have anything to do but to cross my fingers, because I do long for it so badly 😞.
As a final note, to comfort you, no my dear nonnie, he would not yell at Atsushi for being late. I do believe that, at this point, I have some kind of a good grasp on his character, and I believe from the depths of my heart that he would indeed sit him down and have a tender talk with him. He is not a robot. He is a human being that actually cares about his responsibilities and likes functioning through the intrinsic moral compass he possesses. A human being that knows so well how to read the room, a human being who is actually soft inside for the ones around him because he cares about them so much. People don’t understand that his ideals include the people around him too. He is the Vice President that the whole Agency counts on during an emergency situation for a reason.
I truly hope that the fandom will be starting to explore this side of him more, especially after season 4.
If someone ever dares to dehumanise him once more, they will need to pass over my dead body first.

Hi! I’m curious: if you had to be the obsession of one yandere from each of your favorite fandoms, who would you choose and why?
Oh, that’s such a good question! I hope I don’t forget any fandoms. (Every time a question like this comes up, I forget all of my interests, lol.) I’m going to go ahead and include a lot of fandoms in this post, regardless of how much I like the thing itself. (I’m clarifying this because you said “favorite fandoms” and these aren’t necessarily my favorites, lol.) Boy, here’s hoping I don’t learn anything about myself, answering this question. Okay, in no particular order:
Harry Potter:
Okay, I’m thinking Newt or Tom Riddle. Newt is really good at caretaking, he’s soft-spoken, and I know from Les Mis that Eddie Redmayne is able to sing (which, in my mind, means Newt can and he’d sing lullabies). Meanwhile, Tom is powerful and, pre-Horcruxes, not too bad-tempered. He’s got followers, which is good for many reasons; he’s not sadistic like Bellatrix; on the whole, he’s a fairly balanced yandere with a surprising number of benefits.
Or Fred and George; they’re prodigies at what they do (They’re pretty much inventors); they’d be self-aware and fun as yanderes; and also they’re canonically kind of ruthless. Yeah, I think I’m settling on Fred and George for this one.
Twilight:
By the metric of appearance, Seth or Caius. But if I’m taking everything into consideration, maybe Demetri? His power has great yandere potential that would only backfire on me if I’d already escaped, which I probably wouldn’t manage anyway, since I’m a human. He’s high enough in the Volturi that I’d be safe from most everything, but not one of the main three, which is good because I think being Caius or Marcus’s mate would invite a lot of scrutiny from Aro (and he killed Didyme), and being Aro’s might invite sassiness from Caius; just generally, I wouldn’t want to get in on whatever bond they have unless it was a poly thing where they all cared about me. Also, I’d rather avoid Aro’s power if possible, though I suppose having him be yandere for me would be like empirical evidence that even my entire history of thoughts is attractive, which would boost my ego to an absurd degree. You know what, maybe Aro.
Then there’s also Benjamin, who has a chill personality, awesome power (especially since fire is the thing that kills vampires; being able to control it is like extra immortality on top of the existing immortality), and the innate freedom of not being a part of the Volturi. Yet, if he were to be recruited by the Volturi, you know he’d be as high-ranking as Demetri, if not higher. Again, safety. Demetri, Benjamin, or Aro, on the vampire side. (No Cullens, since they’ve actively provoked the Volturi and I don’t trust their ability to keep me safe. If Cullens were on the table, though, Jasper and Alice.)
Wolf-wise, I feel like Leah would be a really considerate and protective yandere, and since she’s the fastest of the wolves, I think she could get me out of most danger. Maybe Jared, since the only things I know about him are that he has a sense of humor and he can be SUPER manipulative (Like, that “Lee-lee” thing from Breaking Dawn was ruthless.), and that’s a valuable skill in a yandere’s tool belt. But ultimately I guess I would have to choose Jacob, since any of them would be physically unable to disobey him, even under yandere circumstances, so there’s no guarantee they would protect me no matter how much they wanted to. (Also I wouldn’t have to go through the turning process, if I’m with a wolf instead of a vampire.)
Final answer, Aro, Benjamin, or Jacob.
The Hunger Games:
Boy, I would say Snow, because I know he would pull strings for me and give gifts and stuff, but I also feel like he’d be kind of a selfish yandere. Like, he’d be kind when it’s convenient, but he’d ultimately be looking out for his own happiness. I love Finnick, but I feel like yandere traits for him would manifest too selflessly; like, I’d be worried about Finnick, as a yandere. Johanna “There’s no one left I love” Mason would be fiercely protective, but not worryingly selfless. She’d be clingy and spirited and probably beat some people up over me.
Divergent:
Definitely Peter! He stabbed a guy in the eye in canon! He’s got an intersection of creepy and pragmatic going on, kind of like a human version of Jasper from Twilight, but without the racial baggage. I get that a lot of people thirst after Eric, and Eric definitely has more power than Peter, but his personality doesn’t interest me.
Percy Jackson:
Percy or Leo. Powers and personalities are perfect for yandere. Nico and Will, if they’re bi; I’m not caught up on Trials of Apollo, so I’m not sure.
WAIT, maybe Reyna?? The confidence, the metal dogs...Yeah, Reyna is awesome, too.
Descendants:
Harry, Uma, and Gil as a unit. Just all three of them at once. They’re pirates, they’re already so steamy and intense about their relationships in canon (or Harry and Uma are, at least), and they’re all very attractive. If I had to choose one, I think Uma. Or Ben, since he’s a really nice guy with a strong moral compass, at least in the first movie (meaning a yandere interpretation of him would most likely become extreme in his morals, rather than corrupt), and he’s the king.
Detroit Become Human:
(I’m literally only making this a category because I find it unbelievable that any yandere Markus is characterized as, like, a rough and dominant yandere.) Markus was a caretaking android for an old man; he would be very loving, understanding, and supportive. His revolutionary energy is not turned against his loved ones. Nothing in canon suggests he would ever be rough with someone he loves. (Connor, meanwhile, is an android cop who is rough with his friends in canon, but lots of fan works characterize him as soft. Puzzling. Maybe uncomfortable, from a racial standpoint, since Markus is a man of color.)
Also, Ralph is the absolute perfect mix of well-meaning and delusional and intense. Ralph is perfect as a yandere. Why isn’t there more yandere Ralph?? I love Ralph.
And also Jerry, because he’s cheerful and there’s a lot of him. Just a thousand of this one guy, all in love with one person? Yandere gold.
Undertale:
Sans. Or Asgore. Let’s move on. 😅
Legacy of Orïsha:
Roën. Easy. Another pirate, with emotional intelligence and a sense of humor! Self-aware but with a loose moral compass. I love him.
Avatar: The Last Airbender:
Having thought it through, either Jet or Mai; Jet is a charming yet hot-headed rebel, and we’ve already seen what it’s like when he’s like when he takes his ideals to an extreme. He would absolutely flood a town for his loved one, which, now that I’m saying it, shouldn’t be phrased like a desired outcome, but we’re talking yandere here, so it’s fine.
Mai, meanwhile, would seem dry and casual while also doing the most. She would be satisfied with just sitting in silence, which is chill. And given her wealth, she might ‘gilded cage’ me. Then again, she’s not very forthcoming with praise or positivity in general.
Actually, yeah, just Jet.
MCU:
Listen, I really dislike Wanda in canon, but Wanda and Vision would be the best yanderes. Their powers, Wanda’s tendency to not take responsibility for her actions, there’s a lot there. And, like, she’s generally nice to people she cares about (and Vision is a Mjolnir-lifting sweetheart); she’s pretty much exactly right to be a yandere.
Maybe Nebula, since I want to give Nebula a hug and let her win at tic tac toe or something. She would fire the very biggest guns at anyone who made themself a threat to me, but one-on-one she’s so soft and frank and I love her.
(I want to say M’Baku because Winston Duke seems so lovely, but M’Baku the character seems too strict; we’ve never seen him with a loved one.)
Dandelion: Wishes Brought to You:
Jieun, in his good end, or Jisoo, in his bad end. Look, my friend got me into this game in high school; don’t look at me. Jieun is smart, psychic, very chill, and a king. Jisoo is practically the opposite. Both work very well as yanderes.

The combination of how the cullens behave towards people and how little they care (as per therealvinelles metas) and fuckmeyers metas and how often they are incredibly immoral and strange, what is their motive for vegitarianism? Like, their reasons for why they do it are clear sometimes but what is their internal justification for it? What do they think their motives are?
This is an interesting question!! I think for some of the cullens it's clearer and more consistent than others:
Carlisle: was prepared to die rather than violate the "sanctity of life" right from the moment he was turned. Now, what he considers life is definitely influenced by his (and meyer's) christianity*. He had no qualms with eating animals as a human or as a vampire. He also cares about the shifters up to a point. Based on book canon, he would never kill one of the pack members and he does value the treaty more than the others Cullens (especially Edward) but I think he also sees himself as somewhat superior to them. He ran tests on Jake's blood without consent, valuing his own curiosity over Jacob's right to his own body. But that's a whole other meta lol. Anyway, I think Carlisle, like many christians*, values "human" (he's added vampires and shifters to this) life period over quality of life. He didn't let Rose die because it would have been a "waste" but he didn't consider what a curse immortality would be for her. Alive in any condition is better than dead for Carlisle and I believe that is his core motivation for continuing the diet (and for turning the 4 vampires that he did).
Jasper: I put him second because I agree with @therealvinelle that Jasper might have figured out the vegetarian diet on his own eventually even if he'd never met alice. Jaspers gift made it painful for him to feed and in Eclipse he tells Bella that he went so far as to starve himself for periods of time just to avoid the emotional pain of feeding. His self control still isn't perfect but he is the only Cullen who personally needs the diet, not for moral reasons like Carlisle, but because feeding from humans is almost traumatizing for him.
Esme: her only motivation for the diet is carlisle. Honestly during my reread Esme comes across as nice, not kind, and very nearly agoraphobic. She avoids most humans except for Bella and only works in isolation (renovating a house by herself during NM). She isn't doing the diet because she likes being around people and needs to control her urges and blend, she isn't doing the diet out of compassion (she told Edward he could eat Bella in MS if that's what he needed to do), and she has no physical or emotional need like Jasper to refrain from eating humans. She only does it because Carlisle, the man she had romanticized and adored since she was 16, "saved" her and taught her this diet. She does it for him.
Rosalie: Rosalie is also in a unique position within the Cullen clan because for her the diet is not about morals or need but control. And with her "origin story" so to speak, it makes perfect sense. The last moments of her life were senseless violence. For her, whether she would admit it or not, the diet is entirely about exerting control over her current undead life. Regaining the agency that was taken from her in her last moments of life and in the first moments of her life as a vampire. You can see it in the way she speaks of her record as well- she doesn't care that she isn't killing humans or drinking them, she cares because she has self control. She is empowered by her spotless feeding record and she feels justified in the deaths she did cause (even brushing off the two guards she killed to get to Royce).
Edward: Edward only does the diet for his own internal theater. He's wrapped up in his own unfolding drama- when he turns away from Carlisle he turns himself into a vigilante, scouring the night for sexual predators, drug abusers, pedophiles, and deviants. It's very Film Noir for him. He tells Bella that he couldn't bear to kill "good" humans which was why he went after "villains" when he did break from the diet but as we learn in MS when he fantasizes about killing literally the entire Quileute tribe, Edward doesn't care about killing "good" humans either. Edward would kill anyone as long as the reason was justified by his own theater. He'd kill Mike Newton out of "love," he'd kill deviants on the street to "prove" himself, he'd even try to kill to whole Volturi just to martyr himself and "prove" that they really were evil after all. Edward only does the vegetarian diet while it fits with his self image. With Bella, he sees himself as saintly, "like carlisle," punishing himself with thirst so that he deserves the Bella Madonna he invented in his own head. And of course, a lot of his self image and image of world is warped into a wonky Carlisle shape because he's fully obsessed with his creator. He does the diet in part for carlisle (which we see in NM when Alice "sees" edward killing hundreds of tourists in volterra and then changing his mind so that he doesn't disappoint carlisle) and in part because of his own mental theater.
Emmett, Alice, & Bella: all three do the diet because "that's what cullens do." They aren't motivated by love of carlisle, like Esme, even if they may all respect carlisle (tbh I wouldn't believe that any of them feel love for anyone though that comes down to meyers ability to show genuine love in the first place. But again that's a whole other meta lolol). They don't really care about humans at all as all three have the "slip ups happen, lol" attitude about eating humans. Alice does the diet because she "saw" it, Emmett does the diet because Carlisle turned him, Bella does the diet because she's a Cullen. If edward wanted to leave and go on a binge-eating road trip through every city in america, Bella would tag along.
Renesmee: honestly I don't remember BD well and I'm not there yet in my reread but I vaguely remember Renesmee being capable of biting humans (and Jacob) without killing them. If this is the case, I don't think Renesmee will be following the diet for very long at all because why bother reigning herself in if she can sip on a human with no real consequence of murder?
Of course, I assume Renesmee will still be "vegetarian" in meyers threatened sequel because the out of universe reason the cullens have to be vegetarians is simply, they need to be superior. They need to stand out from those other nasty vampires who are only vegetarians for sex or worse, aren't vegetarians at all! The theme of valuing existence over quality of life is really consistent throughout the saga, from Carlisle's choice to turn the cullens that he did to Bella's decision to keep Renesmee. Its a very pro-life series through and through.
* I didn't want to get too wordy there but I mean the US's specific brands of christianity like evangelicalism and mormonism. In the US, christians value "sanctity of life" over quality of life in every way. (Ergo why it's easier to pass abortion bans than universal healthcare here.) I don't think meyer really paid much attention to historical accuracy when she wrote Carlisle (if she thought london had sewers in the 17th century, I doubt she would know the nuanced differences between modern and early protestantism) so I think his own religious beliefs are more reflective of modern US christianity than 17th century britain's christianity. *

for the ask game: kyle and kenny
tysm for the ask!!
putting these under a read more because i feel bad about making people scroll through it LMAO
for kyle:
Why I like them: WHERE TO BEGIN. kyle’s been one of my absolute favorites for a looong time, and I’m starting to think the top spot is his forever lol. He’s emotionally complex in a really relatable, strangely realistic way, and the episodes that nail his character are some of the best in the show imo. He’s such a little spitfire and it’s so charmingly adorable, and that wrapped up with his fraternal instinct, his martyr complex, and his powerful (but a little weird) moral compass makes him such an intriguing character. Also I think his hair is cute <3
Why I don’t: I think how insufferable he is at times is adorable, so I’m a bad person to answer this question LMAO - if I had to choose something, it would be him throwing his friends under the bus from time to time. Him screwing Kenny over in Jewbilee was hilarious, but still mean :(
Favorite episode (scene if movie): There are so many good ones that it’s impossible to choose! But Guitar Queer-O, You Have 0 Friends, Toilet Paper, Free Willzyx, The Jeffersons, the Black Friday trilogy, Margaritaville, etc. are some of my favorites as well as being really good for his characterization.
Favorite season/movie: Can’t choose!
Favorite line: There are a ton of good (and more insightful) ones, but I love “Dude, you don’t understand. I’m a Jew. I have a few hangups about killing Jesus.” Just assume that I think all of his lines (especially the ones in his speeches) are wonderful and perfect.
Favorite outfit: is there any other answer other than elf king Kyle? (yes, there is, and it’s either jersey kyle, his weirdly high effort outfit in ‘are you there god? it’s me, Jesus’, and his cute hair in elementary school musical)
Tumblr media
OTP: Both K2 and style have a special place in my heart, but I also love cryle - I just want him to be happy 🥺
Brotp: also style and k2, but tokyle is also very appealing especially after the special! i also think kyle + wendy make for an interesting brotp, and I like kyle and bebe as friends too!
Head Canon: I have so many of these, but they’re all super situational and specific, so I’ll just list a general one - I think he’s gay, and I’ll go into detail if anyone’s curious about why!
Unpopular opinion: I’ve mentioned this before, but I reaaaally think people who call Kyle equally as athletic as Stan are really grasping for straws lol. He’s certainly athletic and definitely has a penchant for basketball, but every other sport he’s played has been with every other guy in the class - and his interests in sports in general just isn’t nearly as prominent as Stan’s. The ridiculously sporty Kyle headcanon really isn’t as popular nowadays as it has been in the past, but there are still frequent posts asking why Stan is seen as more athletic than Kyle - to which I respond that it’s true, and you’re also five years late to this debate. The fandom has mostly leveled out when it comes to extreme views of Kyle, so I guess my main unpopular opinion is actually just ‘lay off on this tired old debate’ instead of contradicting a headcanon of the character himself.
A wish: for him to end up happy someday :( he deserves it
An oh-god-please-don’t-ever-happen: Him and Stan ever permanently separating as friends - they need each other 😭
5 words to best describe them: good-natured, self-righteous, temperamental, compassionate, intelligent
My nickname for them: don’t have one!
for kenny:
Why I like them: The Poor Kid will never not tug at my heartstrings. Kenny’s obviously vulgar and crude at a first glance, but the tenderness of his character really is undeniable when you look deeper - he has so much internal struggle and suffering, but he still maintains so much kindness and love for the people he cares about (even 40 years later!) and that makes it really hard not to adore him.
Why I don’t: this implies that there is any reason to dislike Kenny, to which I say nay (all jokes aside, this is actually hard for me to come up with something - if I had to pick a reason why I didn’t get immediately attached to kenny like I did with some other characters, it would just be that he doesn’t have as much of a prominent role in the show - you really have to dig deep or get involved in the fandom to properly appreciate him the way he deserves)
Favorite episode (scene if movie): The Poor Kid!
Favorite season/movie: Again, not good at picking specific seasons, but if the superhero trilogy counts as a movie, then definitely that one.
Favorite line: “I can't die. I've experienced death countless times. Sometimes, I see a bright light. Sometimes, I see Heaven or Hell. But eventually, no matter what, I wake up in my bed wearing my same old clothes. The wort part? No one even remembers me dying. I go to school the next day and everyone is just like "Oh, Hey Kenny," even if they had seen me get decapitated with their own eyes. You want to whine about Curses, Hindsight? You're talking to the wrong fucking cowboy.” With his letter to his friends in Going Native as a close second.
Favorite outfit: Mysterion! With Kenny’s pink metrosexual outfit as a very close second
Tumblr media
OTP: K2 is the absolute OTP imo for kenny, but I also have a soft spot for crenny and kendy 🥺
Brotp: stenny and crenny for sure! kenbe is also very cute as a brotp
Head Canon: He’s actually very smart! And you guys have no idea how thrilled I was to see this confirmed in the special. His grades aren’t great because he’s maintaining a job, taking care of his sister, and Mysterion-ing around at night instead of getting sleep and doing his homework, but he’s still super clever.
Unpopular opinion: The general consensus among a solid portion of this fandom is trans girl/genderfluid Kenny, but I really just see Kenny as a more feminine cis guy. I do enjoy content with those headcanons, but I also think the prevalence of them brings to light this fandom’s tendency to take male characters with feminine qualities and make them nb/trans, while suspiciously leaving the more masculine characters as cis. I’m intrigued by the trans girl and nonbinary Kenny headcanons, but I would love to see more solid reasoning other than ‘character wears a dress, therefore must be a girl’.
A wish: give him more screen time!!!
An oh-god-please-don’t-ever-happen: I don’t think it’s likely at this point, but I would hate for them to kill him off for good.
5 words to best describe them: Loyal, selfless, mature, cynical, kind
My nickname for them: don’t have one!

(Copy and pasted from one of my Instagram captions but whatever lol)
My thoughts are finally gathered, I loved season 2 for its animation and overall concepts, it was funny and well written. The focus on Jo was different (obviously) but deserved, she was seen as a leader in season 1 but never surpassed the secondary main character category as it was focused on Kid. The dynamic of her clashing mother figures was really good and interesting, Flo trying for compassion and consideration of the rest of the team and Queen Xhan’s focus on taking control and ordering them like an army (which is, of course, what she would be used to as a queen). Fantos was funny but not particularly compelling. Erodius filled me with pure dread the first time it consumed a planet on screen, it’s unstoppable and amoral existence made me feel a bit ill when I thought abt it a bit too long (the vast unknown of space and how there could be something out there that could kill us easily without us even being able to attempt to stop it scares the shit out of me). What I didn’t like, is how the other characters were kind of sidelined for Jo’s story, and Kid seemed to be going through a similar character growth as the last season so it was a bit boring to me but whatever. I am a big fan of Chuck and this season just did not deliver for him 💔 he was in the bg and when he lifted up kid and when he hugged him I was dead happy. I wish they a) got him another translation device (bc he even said it hurts to speak English without it so like. It’s a bit mean) b) kept some of his morally grey ness or like a bit of sarcasm or whatever, bc even in s1 when he became a good guy he was shooting guns at people and knocking out guards and c) they should have either given him the extra arms stone or a wheelchair bc he is having to lug himself around w just his arms. What I liked more about season 1 was the self contained feeling it had, it was just this small community in the middle of the desert with a simple plot, they have cosmic rings of power and all the evil beings in the universe want em. Season 1 was better in that way that first seasons are, where they have a great idea and get it right the first time. S1-perfect. S2- good I liked it.

After reading the Roman Holiday preview... *long sigh*. Why is domestic abuse the go-to tragic backstory for rwby villains? And why is it always more than what our heroes have to deal with? Weiss was abused by her father but was able to escape to Beacon. Meanwhile, Cinder was a literal slave and was alone after killing her abusive family and Rhodes. What is going on!?
My guess is it's the subconscious belief that good people are born of good circumstances and bad people are born of bad circumstances. There are obviously some exceptions like Weiss and Qrow, but notably both of them had significant figures in their life who helped lead them down better paths: Winter and Ozpin. And, as you say, they both had the opportunity to go to Beacon, an escape from their living situations and the chance to be surrounded by more people/opportunities. There's potentially a message here about people flourishing when given external support (hey there, Good Place), but RWBY makes it far more about immediate circumstances than it does working to change over time:
Ruby has an adoring father and a mother who, while dead, also greatly loved her. Ruby is good.
Yang has a mother who abandoned her, but an adoring father and a an adoptive "Super Mom." Yang is good.
Blake was in an abusive relationship, but also has two parents who adore her and, despite the fandom's frustration with storytelling logistics like, "Why didn't they go find her after she left?" (because they weren't a part of the story then), they're presented as good people. Blake too is good.
Weiss has an abusive father and an alcoholic mother, but crucially an older sister who acts like a mother figure. Weiss is good.
Weiss becomes that good figure for Whitley. Whitley is now good.
Winter started this movement, so who was her good, supportive figure? Ironwood. Ironwood who welcomed her into the military, seems to have acted as a father figure, and became a respected peer. By the time Ironwood is made bad, Winter is already considered a hero by the narrative (despite the moral inconsistencies there), so it's fine.
Ren has a loving mother and father who die for him. Ren is good.
Nora is an orphan, but at a very young age gets Ren. Nora is good.
Jaune presumably has loving parents and seven sisters, one of whom we say doting on him with his extended family. Jaune is good.
Pyrrha presumably had a loving mother who visits her statue. Pyrrha is good.
Penny is a literal military weapon, but has a loving father. Penny is good.
Salem was locked in a tower by her father. Salem is bad (even before the grimm pool).
Cinder was a child slave and though she had Rhodes similar to how Weiss had Winter, her backstory arrives eight years late, after we know she becomes a villain. So Cinder is bad.
Adam was also a slave and, regardless of whether it was truly an accident or not, was branded with the logo of his abusers. Adam is bad.
Mercury seems to have just had an abusive father. Mercury is bad.
Emerald's family either died with her having no one to turn to (unlike Nora), or they abandoned her. Emerald is bad. Until the plot shuffles her into the heroic group. Then she's good. Emerald doesn't do something to become a part of that group, she's moved to the group first and then is seen as good.
Neo seems to have had abusive parents. Neo is bad.
Tyrian we don't know much about, but we do know he was already a killer before Salem. What little we've got of his backstory doesn't seem good. So Tyrian is bad.
We're given no information about Ironwood's backstory. Ironwood is good and then quickly becomes bad.
And Ozpin's stuff is such a mess it's unclear what the story even thinks of him at this point. That's a whole other post lol.
As said, there's some nugget of decent writing here in the form of unpacking the idea that people are more likely to make good decisions when given the opportunity and encouragement to do so, as well as the emotional support need to develop that moral compass and believe in yourself enough to follow it... but it's buried under RWBY's black and white worldview, the same worldview that's hurting the other, morally driven aspects of the story. We're not really shown instances in which characters who had everything still do terrible things, nor do we see characters who go through comparatively horrific circumstances and still do the right thing. The good people, while still going through horrible things, have benefits that the villains don't — Weiss' loving sister and wealth compared to Cinder's slavery and part-time visitor, for example — and the villains' experiences overall tend to be, well, more shocking in some respects. Lost legs, a shock collar, a brand, literal slavery, all happening at that formative young age... compare that to the heroes' struggles that, as said, are mitigated by some other good, or happen later in life after they're already established as good people. Blake is already trying to help the faunus when she enters a relationship with Adam (and is said to be mislead. Unlike villains Adam, Sianna, and Iilia, heroes Blake and Sun perform the "correct" kind of activism). Yang is already training to be a huntress when she loses her arm. Oscar is already fighting Salem when he's tortured, etc. We could include Ironwood's turn here too, regarding the shock value. Yeah, everyone is going through horrible stuff in Volume 7 and 8, but only Ironwood had the skin and muscle of his arm stripped off, resulting in a complete loss of the limb. And unlike Yang who was taken home, supported, and given months to recuperate, Ironwood is tossed back into a war with 8+ of his former allies now fighting against him. So RT literally says, "Of course he's bad now," except the argument is this ableist (and, given Yang, contradictory) idea that losing the arm made him bad, rather than the idea that abandoning someone during the worst moment of their life is going to leave them floundering — because that would put at least some of the blame on the heroes. And, as said, the morality is so black and white that there's no room for that nuance. It's not a matter of excusing the villains' actions, but rather examining how they came about and, if we're meant to feel sympathy, tying that to their good traits. Emerald's supposedly "kind" comment comes when she's helping Cinder destroy Beacon. Raven cries while she's deliberately allowing her daughter to be Salem's target instead of herself. Cinder cries because she hasn't successfully killed our heroes and gotten the amount of power she's after. Hazel mourns his sister while trying to kill a 14yo. These are all the WORST times to try and get the audience to feel for the bad guy. The story doesn't acknowledge that horrific circumstances can lead to bad decisions, but that people who commit bad - even truly horrific - acts can still do good in the future, or even do some good alongside the bad, the story says that these circumstances automatically lead to bad people and that you should feel bad for them despite what they've done. If Cinder cried because being in Atlas had triggered the worst memories of her life, that's an avenue towards seeing your villain as a complex human. Having Cinder cry because Watts points out what a shit job she's done at being The Worst Person Ever and expecting the audience to feel bad that Cinder has failed to, idk, take over the world or whatever is... stupid.
Honestly, it feels like another example of how RWBY is very much a simplistic fairy tale, no matter how much the characters insist its not. If you're good, you're good and if you're bad, you're bad. There's no middle ground, leaving characters like Ozpin and Ironwood to be abandoned and Ilia, Hazel, and Emerald forgiven the moment they switch from one side to the other. Now toss in the question of how people become good or bad and, well, surely good people lead good lives and bad people lead bad lives, right? So all you need to do is give your bad characters horrific, abusive, shockingly violent backstories while your good characters have, if not completely stable homes or perfect lives, at least a lot more than what the villains seem to have gotten. And the story isn't interested in acknowledging that motivation and morality aren't that simplistic. It can be offensive on its own, this theme of abused children becoming crazed murderers, but even when you try to follow that logic with something like, "Hey, Weiss our abused hero is threatening a defenseless minor to get what she wants, along with everything else the group as a whole has done. Is that something the story is going to unpack if you honestly believe these circumstances produce bad people?" the answer is always no. Because Weiss is Good™ and there's no interest in grappling with any storyline that might undermine that.

Part 3~
Warnings: one sided love, angst, strong language.
Word count: 771
Recap:
Dazai looked at her with a dangerous gleam in his eyes.
"I'll show him how dangerous it is to play with someone's emotions. I'll make him pay."
Triagonal Heartache
Tumblr media
"No, Mr. Ex Executive of the Mafia, you aren't going to do that. Don't jeopardize your relationship with your partner for something as stupid as this."
She said, taking another puff of the cigarette.
"This isn't stupid, Y/N."
She sighed. Yes, it wasn't stupid. But she knew it was going to happen anytime now. Her and doppo just weren't compatible. He was a conserved idealist, one who never strayed from the metaphorical 'correct path', while she ridiculed the rules that she thought were set by insecure human beings in order to mask their drawbacks. 'A woman is supposed to support her house, and is secondary to her husband'. What bullshit. Pure, misogynistic bullshit. A perfect example of an insecure man trying to ascertain dominance over his wife by making up a shitty rule.
Not that Doppo believed in such extreme views, but yeah, he was pretty orthodox, and followed a set of rules that were created by old, dead, 'wise' people, that probably were nutheads. She can't blindly follow something, just because the 'elders say so'. One must set their own rules, form their own opinions and follow them.
She was a sharp and sound woman, one who followed her own moral compass, and didn't think twice while bending the rules if the situation called for it.
Now that she thought about it, she wonders why the both of them even were together at all. Maybe it was puppy love, or simply a means to explore how the other kind of mentality worked. Maybe it was just a way to prove that opposites attract. Well, she now knew that they don't. They repel. Only like minded people can live together in harmony.
"You know Y/N, opposites don't attract."
Dazai said after a while.
She was shocked at how he was thinking along the same lines as she was; but was quick to mask her surprise.
"But not all similar people do well in a relationship, either. So how does one figure out if he'll have a chance with someone?"
She fixated her gaze on his dimly lit face, admiring the sharp and chiseled features.
"I feel that people with similar personalities attract."
He took a long drag of his cigarette.
"I don't think so. Think about two depressed people in a relationship. Things can only go wrong in such a situation. "
"Depression isn't a personality, Dazai. It's a disorder, something that can be treated. With proper treatment and guidance, maybe the pair will be able to live in harmony."
She got up, crushing her cigarette in the ash tray.
"I have another one."
"I'm not going to get a smoke. I'm going to sleep. I have to go through a couple of documents with the company, so that I can begin working with them on Monday."
They both went in, Dazai shutting the large German door of the balcony.
"Oh, yeah, you got hired. I completely forgot about that."
She grinned at him, posing and flicking her hair.
"Ofcourse I did. It'll be ridiculous to reject an amazing, talented and beautiful candidate like me!"
Snickers could be heard as they made their way to Dazai's closet.
Pulling out a set of clothes for her, he asked, "So, should I sleep on the couch, or are you OK to give up the bedroom?"
"You literally have four bedrooms, Dazai."
"Oh, but if you sleep on the couch, it'll be like a typical 'girl sleeps at friend's house, who's a boy, and they are only friends' scenario!"
Giggling, she smacks his arm, snatching her clothes and walking to her designated room.
"Shut up, idiot. I'm going to sleep in my room!"
"Technically, it's my room!"
"Oh please! You're my best friend, so technically this is my house!"
"That doesn't even make sense."
"Friends share everything, you know. They share their feelings, food, sometimes houses,"
"Very smart. How convenient 🙄. "
Dazai pouted as he followed her, seating himself on the edge of her bed.
She frequented his place so much, that one of the rooms was practically hers. It even had a few of her soft toys and pillows, and a few books by the bedside.
"Why are you so salty anyways?"
She asked, scooting over to make some space for him. He gladly accepted the extra space, and shifted to sit beside her.
"You didn't share your ice-cream with me."
She furrowed her brows, trying to remember what he's talking about.
Suddenly, she remembered. Her eyes widened, and she began laughing.
"Don't laugh! It hurt my feelings!"
She buckled over, still shamelessly laughing at his face.
"That- that was two months ago!"
...
"Brat, why isn't Dazai here yet?"
Kunikida asked Atsushi, who was completing his paper work.
Atsushi sweatdropped, having no idea where he was. He had been to his mentor's quarters today morning, wanting to wish him a good morning, only to find that he wasn't there.
"I- I don't know, Kunikida-san... he wasn't in his room today morning, so I figured he was here..."
Kunikida's anger was visible, as his face turned red, and if someone looked closely enough, they would spot smoke coming out of his ears.
"I'm going to kill him when he arrives, I swear to God, I'll punch his-"
"Ohoho~ Just who is Kunikida going to beat up?"
Dazai walked through the door, hands in his pockets.
"Dazai, you jerk, you're three hours late! Explain yourself!"
Dazai smirked.
"I don't need to explain anything to anyone."
He tilted his head, glaring at Kunikida with hooded eyes.
"Let alone someone as vile as you."
Atsushi gasped. Dazai had never been hostile towards anyone in the agency before. This was new. And scary. He gulped, deciding to flee from the scene. He grabbed his laptop, and rushed over to an empty cabin.
Kunikida was shocked. Obviously, Dazai knew about his breakup. He didn't expect him to side her, though. He had thought that Dazai will defend him. He felt betrayed.
He recovered quickly, and strode over to Dazai, grabbing his collar.
"Listen to me, this is none of your business-"
Dazai flipped him and pushed him towards the wall. He grabbed Kunikida's collar, and glared down at him.
"No, you listen to me."
His tone sent shivers down Kunikida's spine.
"What you did is unforgivable. Now, face the consequences."

Can you do an analysis of Yumeko's character?
Tumblr media
I can try, though as always keep in mind that I’m more of a creator than an analyst and I don’t believe my comprehension of these characters to be above anybody else's.
(cut cause long post)
For the longest time Yumeko was and still is one of the most enigmatic characters I’ve ever seen. We know nothing about her past and now that with the latest chapters her role in the story seems to be changing, the only thing we are sure about is her addiction now.
Yumeko, as the series name clearly states, is a gambling addict. Now, in a word being an addict means that a compulsive behavior takes over one's whole life. We can oversimplify it in two statements: 1) I can’t stop doing this 2) No one can stop me unless I truly want them to.
In a setting like Hyakkaou’s this is twice as dangerous. Not for Yumeko herself — Sayaka’s background check tells us she’s quite loaded in terms of money — but for the people around her. There's a pretty obvious duality to Yumeko's character: on one hand, we have the sweet, childish, almost naive Yumeko, who’s able to befriend even her worst opponents; on the other we have a “plague” who’s unable to keep herself under control and who would do anything to get what she wants, ruining whoever is in her path.
The contrast is interesting to see in scenes like the one in which she offers her tissue to Sayaka because she was crying, knowing that she hates her with all her guts vs the way she completely lost her facade when Yumemite refused to play seriously against Sumika, or when she pressured Itsuki into gambling her Life-Plan. This is simply another consequence of her addiction. Try to politely tell a smoker to quit smoking, see how they react. Amberlynn Reid, a youtuber who’s become a lol-cow during her failed weight-loss journey, suffers from BED (binge eating disorder) and when she can't keep her impulses in check, she calls that part of herself “the binge eating monster”, stating that it pushes her as far as to abuse her own partner if she doesn’t get to eat what and when she wants to.
Here’s the thing though: addicts usually want to stop. Most importantly when their behavior starts to take its toll on them. Although they’re often forced to ignore them, they do have feelings of shame and regret when they end up to do things that average people wouldn’t do (i.e. stealing to have more money for their dose). They know that what they’re doing is bad. They have constant reminders of it. Just like Amberlynn has the hate comments and smokers have the warnings on the packages, Yumeko finds her reminders in her own sister, who ended up in a mental institution precisely because of gambling, and in everyone at Hyakkaou, the main example being Sayaka (I speak about this a bit more here).
And yet, here’s the odd thing: Yumeko never really showed the desire to stop nor a hint of true remorse for anything she’s done. People are calling Kirari a sociopath and a narcissist only because she doesn’t show herself as the usual cute anime girl. Yumeko isn’t that better than her in these terms.
The whole premise of the KKG movie revolves around Suzui trying to convince Yumeko to join the Village, where gambling and money are banned, only for the latter to say, “No thanks. I have only two desires: better desserts at the cafeteria and watching Murasame gamble.” (Full on expression of her duality once again).
Because of gambling, her moral compass is sort of all over the place. She never wanted to liberate the House-Pets destroying the system, that’s Tsubomi who got the wrong idea. Yumeko was an anti-hero for a while, but only out of pure coincidence. Simply, her goal of taking the Student Council coincided with the wishes of whoever wanted to see the SC fall.
Clearly, this could be because Yumeko came at Hyakkaou with a specific goal in mind. At the Academy gambling is often your only mean of survival and it would be foolish to give it up. As Murasame says, “Kirari’s a monster and only another monster can defeat her, hurting everyone else in the same manner.”
That does fit Yumeko’s character, doesn’t it?
So why does Yumeko give up gambling altogether when Kirari refuses to play with her and calls her an ‘impurity’? It would make sense if she came here specifically to defeat Kirari. If she was certain that Ririka would win, that would prevent her from obtaining what she wants, throwing out of the window everything she’s done so far. This is the only possibility I can think of for now, so the next chapters will hopefully clear that up.
Now, Yumeko said that she won’t gamble, but if she’s truly an addict, no matter how stubborn and displeased she gets, she won’d be able to stop just like that. The addiction will either take over or find another mean to express itself, just like sometimes smokers turn to food when they try to quit and how people with BED can end up becoming addicted to shopping, resulting in hoarding behaviors. It’s all about that kick of dopamine.
Rest assured though, that as long as her addiction remains, Yumeko will never fully be able to be one of the good guys. Not like this, and not in a world in which adults can’t plan a fucking intervention. It makes sense for her to be holding the Election under her heel now and going on it could only get worse, with Yumeko hindering her own allies — if she ever had any.
Which brings us to a final point: the way Yumeko builds her relationships and why.
Her first connection at Hyakkaou is Suzui, who’s in so much debt that he’s considering dropping out. He’s a naive guy, too good for his own good. He’s easy to mold in Yumeko’s hands and that’s eaxctly what she does in more than a gamble (ESP, Zero Nym-Type). Is this also because of the “monster” inside of her, preying on the weak to take as much as it can? I don’t believe their friendship is completely “pure”, though I also don’t think Yumeko is harmful by nature. She might not even be fully conscious of this.
We have Saotome, who believed herself so sleek and ended up as a House Pet. Why would Yumeko befriend someone who tried to ruin her on her very first day? Did she see a powerful ally and a perfect opponent in order to seek the thrill of the risk, or is she really just that naive? Yumeko isn’t stupid. Intelligence also comes through emotional values. Again, I don’t believe her connection with Mary is devoid of secondary reasons, though just like in Suzui’s case, the latter come into play only when they hinder Yumeko’s gambling.
Tsubomi and Itsuki were practically shouldered and then used with the promise of obtaining something better for themselves. Sayaka? She called Yumeko a “plague” and yet Yumeko never really resented her. Sure she almost caused her death, but that was a collateral matter. Yumeko harbors no ill intent towards her, notwithstanding Sayaka’s hatred. Yumeko doesn’t show hate for Kiwatari either, and yet he never acted right around her.
Midari, on the other hand, deserved her indifference and dislike because she messed up their gamble and there’s nothing that Yumeko dislikes as much as a set result in her games. The two cases of Midari and Sayaka/Kiwatari are perfect to show the contrast between the kind of person Yumeko would be without her addiction and the kind of person she is now that her life is ruled by gambling.
What about Kirari then? In terms of risks, Kirari too showed a similar appetite. Perhaps Yumeko herself would like to see her own addiction consume her, just like she thinks Kirari would — thought I’m starting to believe the supernova talk was more about the clan than about herself. Maybe, just like Kirari with Ririka, Yumeko wants to fight the part of Kirari that resembles her the most and Kirari’s refusal proved that she had been very wrong in judging her character. Apparently Kirari “killed” her sister, but that’s Terano’s word, Yumeko never expresses herself on the matter.
In all these examples, the main thread is still the same. The gambling addiction has always been Yumeko’s core in the series and as of today it would be impossible to consider Yumeko’s character whole without it. People tend to forget its extent.
I do hope flashbacks and such will let us see how Yumeko was before she became a kakegurui, because in the end, addictions are only a part of who we are — unless we let them consume us.
I hope this answer was as satisfactory as it could be.

Hi! A fan of your writing here. I just love the way you write Caroline. An Avoidable Heart is my comfort fic and I am constantly in awe with the way you write and craft the dynamics in that story. Caroline's inner monologue is just priceless and God! I just love that intro scene where Caroline is walking into the Mikaelson compound with vampires and hybrids in the surrounding ready to pounce on her.
I would love to hear how you would have visualized Caroline crossing over into TO or not? Like in what season and why? How it would have likely gone?
Thank you!
First of all lovely anon gimme a moment to breathe, asdfghjkl why are people so lovely 😭😭🥺✨ It means sooo much to me that you’d take the time to jump into my inbox and send these kind words, like please I’m not worthyyyyy, But you make me smile and feel really freaking warm so *handcuffs your hand to mine* you aint leaving 💖✨💞🙃
But OK ALSO oh my god dude THAT CAROLINE WALTZS INTO THE COMPOUND AND TAKES ON A COUPLE HUNDRED VAMPIRES BY HERSELF SCENE???? Ughhhhh I’m sorry but I have SUCH a boner for Caroline in that, like my badass -I admit kinda op- QUEEN IS HERE and she’s fucking shit up, I’m sorry but I love that scene so much it’s so dear to me I was killing myself over how self-indulgent and grossly Over powered Caroline is but like idgaf man it’s such a hot scene and Caroline is practically invincible and we just love to see that, so seriously lovely anon, you telling me you LOVE that scene??? Puts the biggest smile on my face and reassures me a LOT bc I was whining and cribbing over how absolutely unbalanced that scene is to literally everyone BUT LIKE YOU JUMPING OUT OF NOWHERE and pointing that exact scene UGHH…...meant to fucking be the both of us 💖💞✨
And ALSO Caroline’s monologue is quite honestly the easiest inner monologue out of the three voices I wrote for that work, Klaus’s is the real pain in the ass tbvh like it is NOT easy writing pretentious besotted losers with a Kardashian complex especially when you need to make them sound cool when they’re the lamest OP dude bros to ever exist - and no I don’t hate Klaus although I seem to try my darndest to convince ppl I do- I just personally believe that a feral fucker like that with a thousand years of existence under his belt can grow a pair and graduate from his kindergarten level of emotional maturity to adult sometime soon, But then on the flipside he’s so grossly adorkably smitten and feral for Caroline plus hella horny for her all the time that its usually easy to write the trashed and devoted idiot he is into something pretentious and powerful and potent when relating to his unflappable arrogance and his narcissism, but sometimes I also need him to be *deep* and ffs profound for the sake of the plot and jfc my muse just wont work with me on that, she’s like I’m sorry I’m not about to bust my ass to make this mongrel intelligible like no sir all I wanna do is make him uncomfortably horny for Caroline and leave him like that.
So smh yeah the struggle is real….but lmao Caroline is just so precious and fiercely protective and just so achingly lonely in that story, so desperate for connection and trust and intimacy yet so guarded and impervious to everyone like it hurts me to write her like that but it really challenges me as an author to balance out her inherent light with the “void” I create in her and through her, so yeah it’s a very fulfilling task and I wouldnt change it one bit, and also I had to balance out her physical op-ness w half a millennium of the ugliest emotional trauma lol so I guess that figures, but the point being….once again I am overjoyed knowing that you liked a facet of the story that I tried so hard to make as authentically Caroline and achingly real and moving as I can and I cannot possibly feel more accomplished than rn for it so ty ty ty ty for reaching out to me and telling me *tackle hugs* It makes me GIDDY knowing that you enjoyed that particular part of the story like ugh stab me please you're too sweet.
And ok NOW, coming to The Originals part of the ask, (also please note that when I say TO headcanon; Hope does not exist, Hayley is a dead in a ditch and ofc Klaus will stop being that lil bitch they tried to pawn off as Klaus in TO)
HEADCANON 1
Honestly my biggest headcanon when it comes to TO crossovers somehow always include non-humanity!Caroline like it’s just so perfect to me?? The opportunity to make shit BLOW UP b/w them like imagine the DEBAUCHERY, the heat, the SEXUAL TENSION, the repression of one Klaus Mikaelson, the EXPLORATIONS, and omg the role reversal when Klaus has to be the voice of moral reason between them and not bc he believes Caroline would not be able to stand herself if she does something heinous and monstrous but bc he wants her to be completely and utterly herself, and yk *aware*, when she DECIMATES ppl to the ground and is in full-on predator mode, like he wants her monster to come out and play with him when no part of Caroline is locked away or suppressed, so obviously when she is w/o her humanity KLAUS exercises restraint on her behalf, like can you imagine that, Klaus restraining himself and being the vague, extremely broken and just largely inaccurate moral compass between the two of them for ALL the wrong reasons- and the entirety of NOLA just standing there watching him herd this baby vampire who seems to be intent on riling him up and angering him when all she is doing is giving him a massive hybrid hard on, like IMAGINE THE GOODNESS of non-humanity Caroline wrecking NOLA and Klaus letting her wreck it bc he is helpless in the face of Caroline Forbes and also bc he is quite honestly *enjoying* the debauchery himself so why put a damper on the festivities.
-I might wanna add that I favour this headcanon a lot bc I genuinely do not even remotely *like* the idea of NOLA as Klaus's chosen place to set his roots so like I would love Caroline going to NOLA and destroying everything there just bc I detest NOLA and the storyline behind it in TO. (yes is it petty? Obvi, but like I am a petty soul and I make no apologies ma’am)
HEADCANON 2
So yeah that’s my main TO headcanon, but my other one being, one I talk about very frequently, scream about in tag rants to an obsessive level, and like this is a cracky one but still very valid, where Caroline rolls up to NOLA humanity intact and all, finds Hayley preggo and is just laughing her fucking ass off bc anybody ANYBODY, with half a brain and a two minute convo w klaus would know how UTTERLY stupid the entire baby shit is especially when it’s with an immemorable one night stand, and Caroline’s just losing her shit about how like an entire city is obssessed w this baby and she just straight up tells Klaus he’d SUCK as a dad (which he really does tho like he was a shitty fucking dad canonically too) and Klaus is just like *sigh* girl tell me about it. I mean basically he’s finally relieved that someone is on his side about the whole baby thing and how he definitely does not want his entire millennium of life to finally sum up to this one squalling leaking stinky infant/unicorn Hayley is apparently baking in her oven, and I say this headcanon is cracky bc klaus would never have put up w this mess long enough for Caroline to come in and sort it out, there’s this preferred method of disposal of his called heart ripping that would've been employed quite early on and honestly saved us all a lot of brain cells and minused years of life, bc let’s be real any Klaus who’s NOT a lil snivelling bitch wearing a Klaus skinsuit would’ve yeeted the baby and the mama first chance he got, and that’s just how I see it.
Lmao I really hope I didnt scare you away w my *strong* opinions Ik they can be a bit much but I enjoy having them so theyre not going anywhere, anyways this ask answer got WAYYYY too long but I’m hoping I answered your question well with this or atleast left you slightly confused and bemused over my feral screaming....either ways I’m really really really happy to have got your ask and the chance to rant so much bs, Twas cathartic and honestly I had nothing to do today so I was more than happy to dish this baby out for you. Thank you so much sweet anon for putting a smile on my face today I am absolutely HONOURED by your words you’sa cutie 💖💞✨🗣🗣

One piece 30 day challenge : Day 7 Marines or Pirates ? Who are the bad guys ?
REVOLUTIONARIES !
Ahem, this wasn’t the question hihi It depends from where you’re looking at this question. But...I would say MARINES.
WARNING : A bit controversial.
Tumblr media
No I am not influenced by my love for Koby
I swear I have my reasons. >o< Well, let’s look at my point of view in more details.
You could either base your opinion on the Marines and Pirates that are shown in One Piece universe or you could try to take more distance and try to “imagine” the story being written from a neutral focalisation or another character’s point of view.
✖ The importance of POV : One piece follows the Straw hats, who are “good” pirates, so it’s natural to feel more empathy towards the pirates. The reader/watcher always relates and feels compassion towards the protagonists, even if they are “criminals”. Some other Pirates are shown in a badass way (like kid Pirates, Red hair pirates, etc) so it’s really hard to put things into perspective, because we don’t get to see the “bad” things that they do. (The killing civilians parts, etc...) So, we have a very biased point of view on pirates.
✖ What is a pirate ?
noun. /ˈpaɪrət/ /ˈpaɪrət/ (especially in the past) a person on a ship who attacks other ships at sea in order to steal from them.
One of the characterization traits of a pirate are to steal, rob etc. A lot of the Pirates in One piece are like that ! (Like, Alvidia let’s say) however, we follow the adventure of “good” (?) pirates. Also, we don’t get a lot of brutality and horrible moments of Pirates being terrible to innocents because it doesn’t serve the plot.
But I assume that most pirates are like this in One piece. This is the reason why someone like Isshou is in the Marine. This is why Garp is in the Marine. These pirates make people’s lives living hell.
✖ Let’s take an example : Kid who kills innocent civilians. (Because I love Kid!!)  What we see is good hot Kid, his quirky personnality, his badass character design, etc. So it’s only natural to love this kind of pirates ! We get mostly the good.
✖ Blackbeard is a good exemple of this. Blackbeard is hated. But really ? Why is he hated ? He is just being a pirate. Pirates kill and steal, that’s the meaning of the world. I think that this also shows how character design plays a big role in our appreciation of the character. Edit: actually, I think a lot of people hate him for being sneaky, killing Ace and betraying WB. So my exemple was a bit hasty, lol.
✖ Are strawhats good ? : To get to his goal, Luffy is not letting anyone stop him. His motive is freedom and isn’t “heroic” and he does state it ! I think that Luffy is just a good pirate, someone that has a good heart but that he doesn’t have a strong sense of morality. His motive is selfish and personal. Same for let’s say, Nami, who is a perfect example as she used to steal for a living. (Of course, she had her reasons, this is not the topic, I am not antagonizing any character here ! I LOVE MY STRAWHATS please don’t hate me, okay ?)
✖ What is good and evil ? What is “Justice” ? This is one of the main themes of One Piece. This is the reason behind the justice crisis of characters like : Smoker, Tashigi, Garp, Koby. This is what One piece teaches us.
Justice is subjective. You can’t fight in the name of justice. There will be always people that are victim to injustice. Law is not personnalized to every singular case (and that sucks). This is why the marine couldn’t accept to recognize they were helped by the strawhats. This is why Smoker spared Luffy. He is still a criminal, but he did something good.
✖ One piece shows us different ways to see justice ; from the dogmatic way that Rob Lucci represents, from the rigid application of justice that Akainu embodies, the “justice” of Celestial dragons that is linked to aristocracy, the justice of the oppressed represented by the revolutionaries...Etc...
✖ A case example : Doffy being a visionnaire like always and speaking gold : (giving us his vision of justice)
“Pirates are evil? The Marines are righteous? These terms have always changed throughout the course of history! Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war have different values! Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right! This very place is neutral ground! Justice will prevail, you say? But of course it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice!”
✖ Oda’s take : I remember that part (I forgot) when Luffy said that it’s up to people to decide wether they are good or bad. And this is for me the ZIST of One piece. Oda doesn’t give answers, but he pushes the reader to think for themselves. He doesn’t say this is bad and this is good. It’s up to us to “chose” a camp and honestly, I don’t think it’s about chosing...It’s more about accepting that life isn’t white or black but a lot of gray zones. Good and Evil are social constructs. Humans write in law what is good and bad but it’s such a biiig field. This is the problem with vague concepts.
✖ WHY WOULD I STILL CHOOSE MARINES ?  I know. The problem with Marines are that they work under a corrupt government. They are “people who spill water on hands” as we like to say in my beautiful dialect which means people that have little or no say in higher decisions.
✖ HOWEVER I generally (and it’s personal) prefer something more...”framed” ? I think that If I was in One Piece Universe I’d be a marine like Koby, or Isshou. I look up to Isshou a lot. I would be working for the marine and using my position to try to limit inhumanity and limit “absolute justice”.
The more I think about it, the more I think marines aren’t better. When I think about Buster Call, genocide of Ohara, not doing sh*t against slavery...Ugh...Well. I came up to say I preferred Marines, but I think I would JOIN marines if I had the choice, but that I prefer neither. (Of course in the P.O.V of the Show, I have more empathy for Pirates, and therefore, I love my Kid pirates !)

Top 5 Mass Effect companions? Your meta posts have me pretty tempted to pick up the remastered trilogy and try it out 😊
Ooooh i'm glad to hear it! Mass Effect has such a special place in my heart and I'm always happy to encourage other to play it. I actually haven't tried the remastered edition yet, but I've heard only good things about it.
Onto the list:
5. Samara. Number 5 is hard to choose because I seriously like everyone in ME, and Samara is far from being one of the squadmates with most content, but still, she is such a striking presence and I treasure every scene with her through the trilogy. I love her status as this super powerful extreme moralist and how it contrasts with her relationship with her daughters (she is kind of a terrible parent, which I love). I love her voice acting and her dramatic but also serious and intimidating dialogue. Her loyalty quest has some bits of wonky writing, but it's different from other quests and carries such a mysterious and epic vibe that I can't help but adore. I love her.
4. Garrus. It's an unpopular opinion to have him so low, but I guess because people worship him so much I never had to justify liking him, so he's not a character I'm particularly protective of, which justifies this ranking. Anyway. Garrus is popular for a reason: He's just a great guy with one of the best character arcs of the entire trilogy, and the fact that Shepard can actually shape his moral compass and the person he becomes is really an awesome bit of writing and helps to reinforce how important their friendship it. I always have a weakness for characters trying to do the right thing and be just in a fundamentally unjust setting, even if they mess it up terribly, so there was no question I'd love him from his introduction. No Shepard without Vakarian, indeed.
3. Mordin. It's funny that Mordin is technically only a squadmate for one game, because he's one of the most memorable characters of the franchise and, in my opinion, the one with the best character arc. When he was first introduced I was wary of him because the Genophage is one of the bits of ME lore that always struck me the hardest, I wanted to cure it since finding out what it was, so having the guy who was responsible for it on my crew wasn't something I was looking forward to. But from his introduction Mordin is such an interesting character with so many layers, and the way the writing deals with his own sense of guilt and how he represses it, and how in ME3 he finally gets to admit to himself and to the world he made a mistake and work towards fixing it, is just so, so well done. His final scene in ME3 marks the ending of my favorite mission of the entire trilogy, and in both the full Paragon and the full Renegade playthroughs he gets one hell of a fantastic send off. Just... really, really good.
2. Kaidan. Kaidan is kind of the opposite of Garrus to me, in that I feel like I've become a lot more attached to him because I find myself having to defend him so often. People tend to dismiss him as "boring" which I find so unfair and part of general fandom trend I hate - to view any character who isn't quippy and funny as someone with no personality. With Kaidan I find it specially absurd because you literally only have to talk to him a few times and you get a sense of who he is, and who he is is a very great guy. He has his issues, he bottles stuff up a lot, but in general he's introduced as pretty much the only member of your crew with a good moral compass (his story about Vyrnnus is a perfect example of a person who is actually managing to deal with meeting new species without falling into a racist, defensive posture). He's not a doormat either - people get mad at him for lashing out at Shepard during Horizon but he was right! Cerberus sucks and it's sketchy as hell for Shepard to suddenly be working with them! And I think the fact he openly disagrees with that makes his relationship with Shepard more interesting, because he's not afraid of challenging them. It's great tension and the way it builds up and blows up in Mass Effect 3 is something I love (and which works fantastically for his romance with M!Shepard).
1. Liara. I mean... What can I say? One of the defining moments of my very first Mass Effect playthrough was the "wait, can I be gay in this? oh hell YES i can be gay in this" moment, and I fell in love with Liara from her very first scene. My OG Shepard never had eyes for anyone else, and why would she? Liara is such a loveable character from the start, with her awkward flirting and her dorky excitement over the historic implications of what you're discovering (that no one else seems to give a shit about lol). Her romance comes across as believable, being so sweet at first and then taking a tragic turn in the second game, which is dealt with amazingly in the Shadowbroker DLC. And what I love most about it is that Liara as a character grows so much while you're apart, and yet we also get to witness some of it in the DLC. Then in ME3 she's already a far cry from the inexperiened scientist you met in the first game, but she's still very much her, still attached to an overly romantic view of the protheans, still caring and compassionate and brave. People complain about her reaction to Thessia which annoys me so much, because it's such a realistic reaction, it's a moment of vulnerability that makes perfect sense and it helps to keep the stakes of the war feeling high. And I love that even near the end she's thinking ahead, trying to help future generations who might face the reapers if you fail, but also preserving Shepard's memory because she loves her so much. I adore Liara.

SO I know I’m like, super late to the party, but I finally got my hands on Robin 2021 and there is literally no one for me to talk to about it so now I’m just screaming my thoughts into the void ✌
First off, before i even bought the first two issues, I read through a lot of other people’s opinions on it to kinda get an idea of where it was going characterization-wise for Damian, and because of all the mixed reactions, I figured I should just read it myself and find out. Now I am the FURTHEST thing from a comic book authority, so like, this is truly just an opinion piece but if it convinces anyone to give the run a chance, then yay!!! Honestly, I’m really glad I gave it a shot because I’m genuinely hooked! I’m actually excited about this series (and it scares me lol)!!!
I'm gonna separate my thoughts into two sections: characters, and story, mainly for my own ease, but also if anyone cares more about one thing or the other it's easier to distinguish. But,  the line is a little blurry so if I end up getting a little too much into the characterization in the story section, just bear with me lmao. OH and I'm going to try and keep this as un-spoilery as possible but we'll just have to see. SOOOOOOOO
Characters
I think it goes without saying that Melnikov's art is absolutely gorgeous, and really does show how much Damian has grown up. It makes me want to sob its so beautiful, everyone is so pretty, even the guy that looks like a washed up, high as fuck Tony Stark lmao. But moving on to the actual characters,
Rose Wilson
I honestly don't know too much about Rose, I haven't read enough about her to say anything about her characterization and how it compares to her other appearances, or whether or not she is OOC, but so far, I'm enjoying her taking up the "big sis" role, like, immediately lmao.
I don't know how much I trust her yet, but I definitely get the vibe that even if she does betray Dami in any way, she's probably gonna stick her neck out for Dami again and he's probably gonna do the same.
I'm really intrigued about her motivations for being here. Obviously, Respawn has something to do with it, but I want to know what's up with that. I've seen a lot of theories and I'm so excited. Also side note, that Black Swan chick is hot, and I can't wait to see more of her in action!!!
I feel like Ravager knows a WHOLE lot more than Dami does about the interesting things going on on the island, mainly because she's been doing a lot more sitting and waiting than he has as of yet, but I'm hoping to see more of the two of them doing detective-y sleuthing together. We love a mysteryyyy
Flatline
Okay but real talk, why does she look like a character straight out of Monster High
Honestly tho, I dig it. It's cute! She's cute! She isn't annoying (yet) but I don't know if I care too much about her other than she would make a cute friend for Dami.
I think the problem with DC is that they know people LOVE Harley Quinn and they try so hard to make characters just like her but it always falls short, so honestly I am a little wary of her character development in this run, but I'm willing to give her a shot since her little coffin purse on the cover of the second issue is so damn cute. I'm a slut for character design, okay?
Oh speaking of Flatline and Dami, I don't ship it and I don't want them to force a romantic relationship into Damian's "coming of age"/"soul-searching" moment okay? Because that's what this run is about, at least to me! More on that in the story section!
They're literally 13/14 years old. That's 8th-9th grade, babes lets think about that for a minute
Also let's stop the whole "lets introduce a female character just to make her a love interest!" bullshit okay?
Basically, Flatline is interesting, or at least has the potential to be, but I don't want to get my hopes up because DC is notorious for disservicing their female characters 😕
I think the mixed reaction to her is valid, I don't think she's had much time to make a solid impression yet, so I guess you'd have to read it for yourself. Personally, I don't understand why people immediately hate her, especially because she's like, 14, and what kid that age isn't annoying? like at least a little bit lmao! But, yeah. I don't trust her either but literally everyone on this island is sketchy at least and a murderer at best, so hey 🤷‍♀️
Damian
His new outfit lmaoooo at first I was like "WHaT is this child wearing? You'd think Dick would have rubbed off on him and taught him what good taste looks like" but then I saw the later outfit, with the gold patterning and those sleeeevessssss ugh and I take it all back. A Fashion Icon TM. Truly stunning. A sight to behold. So proud, look at him go 😪
I think there's a lot of different opinions on Damian's characterization in this run, and I can definitely see where its coming from, but I disagree with the notion that Damian has been done dirty and reverted to a blood-thirsty, feral child.  And I have a LOT of opinions on the whole "feral" thing regarding Damian period (but that's for another time).
I don't think of Dami's rampage as a regression for his character. He's letting of emotions right then and I think its very similar to him venting. Its just not verbal, its physical and he knows he's not going to have to grapple with the consequences of his actions on the first kill. He knows he's technically not doing anything wrong.
He is clearly upset at Bruce and his failure to protect Alfred, and while Dami and Bruce are really often described as being very similar personality-wise, they are still distinctly different individuals who came to their current moral codes in vastly different ways. Bruce came to his "no killing" rule on his own; he made that decision for himself. It wasn't taught to him, it was a moment-of-truth kind of situation. Damian, on the other hand is in a vastly different situation.
Dami is, I think, at the beginning of the climb to his own moment-of-truth. He is in his rebellious phase like Dick, where he's gone off to spread his wings. It's not his conscious intention (at least that's not the vibe I got from reading the first two issues), but its directly underlying his "mission".
Damian is growing out of the expectations of his parents and into his own person. We all know he's been thrown from one moral code to another, both drastically different from each other. I don't think its a regression for him to lose his way a little, because realistically, he's going to have to in order to find it, specifically a moral compass that he forged on his own. He's just what? 14? Like hell a kid his age wants to listen to any form of authority. He's as stubborn as it comes. Damian needs to come to his decision regarding the path he takes in life on his own. It can't be made for him. He's seen and lived both sides of the coin, and I don't think he should be forced just yet to choose a side or pave a middle ground, but I do think that he should get the opportunity to see and experience all the gray areas on his own.
I think I'll transition from characterization to story here, because let's face it, this story is about Damian dealing with his confused emotions right now, in the wake of losing Alfred, a man that kind of acted like a grounding presence, a voice of reason, or a moral compass for him (and honestly Bruce and the rest of the bat crew if we're honest).
Story
So there's a lottttt going on in the story that is really enticing and exciting, and I'm really interested to see how it all plays out.
All the rules to the tournament are so, sketchy? Like they don't sound like they are meant to be sketchy, its basic safety and guidelines or whatever but with all the glowy green shit and the stakes of the tournament? Yeah, you can bet your ass its the "no fighting at night" and other shit is gonna be broken, and that's likely when the fun begins *insert evil laughter*😈
I was slightly put off by the whole "let me teach you to have fun" thing with Rose, because it's not like Dick, Steph, Jon, and like the Titans haven't done that with him too, but eh, not something I'm too concerned about. It's definitely just a segway to get us introduced to more characters that might become Damian's friends which will be interesting considering what Mother Soul said about fraternizing.
And that's another thing! I want Damian to make some friends! I know he already has some, but here's the thing: I think he's already been struggling with belonging, and he's definitely been feeling the disconnect between his life and other kids', whether they're supers/vigilantes or not. I think it'd be nice to see Dami have the experience of meeting people who he at first thinks are just like him!! and then realizing that maybe he doesn't really fit in here either, and that it's okay to feel like you don't belong, as isolating as it may feel at times. It just means you have a set of values. I want him to realize that its not always a bad thing, and you learn more about yourself and your own heart this way.
And from there,,, lets talk about the thing that stuck out to me the most in these two issues! GUILT!! It's mentioned SOO many times already, and I think its going to be a really fun, heartbreaking, and interesting aspect to explore about Damian. Is it guilt about his actions? Leaving behind family? Not being able to save Alfred? Not being a perfect example of Robin? He may call himself Robin but he doesn't sport the OG look or symbol like before. I love that his guilt takes on the form of Alfred though, or at least his conscious. I think it'd be really interesting to see this conscious disappear when Dami strays too far from his center, and when he finds it again, it reappears.
I really think that seeing Damian's actions in this run as a failure of character development is an unfair assessment, though. You can't do everything right in order to grow! You have to screw up, lose your way, experiment with life to find your fit, right?
Something tells me he doesn’t care for the tournament itself, but the end result, and the people behind it and more about WHY it was hidden from him. I mean he finds out the tournament TRULY begins once everyone has died once and tHEN he kill everyone? Felt to me less like a “killing spree” as everyone put it to a calculated decision to get the tournament going. He literally cuts Mother Soul off in the middle of her speaking to start fighting at the beginning
Anyway, just my thoughts lol. I do have some issues with the past two issues, and I might make a separate post about that, but honestly not enough for me to dislike Robin 2021 so far. I mean, besides the very obvious white-washing in the second issue, because DC can absolutely do better. And they should. It’s like they thought we wouldn’t notice???? But besides that, story and characterization-wise I’m looking forward to more. Here’s to hoping it stays that way, just with a better colorist!
