“Mike, come on, let's go!” Nancy yells for your brother who’s waiting for his waffles to pop out of the toaster. This is how almost every day of school has gone so far because Nancy has to get there early to do stuff with the school's paper. “I swear to God I’m going to leave you here and you can bike to school!”
“I’m coming!” He yells back through a mouthful of Eggo.
“I could always drive you.” You offer watching him wince as he grabs his newly toasted waffles. You’re just now getting yourself breakfast since you don’t have to leave for another twenty minutes. You’ve offered the same thing almost every morning and each time you’ve gotten the same response.
“It’s fine, thanks though.” He smiles at you before shoving a waffle in his mouth.
“Mike!”
“I’m coming!” He slings his bag over his shoulder as he runs out the door following your sister to her car. You’re not shocked that he picks Nancy again, it’s what everyone seems to do. To everyone other than Mike's friends you’re the forgotten Wheeler. Even your parents seem to forget you exist unless they’re comparing you to Nancy or other kids your age. You sigh before turning your attention back to the bowl of cereal in front of you. When you leave you make sure to grab the textbook Mike forgot on the counter again.
“Who’s that lost sheep over there?” Eddie asks after a while of watching the girl sitting alone bobbing her head along to whatever is playing through her headphones and doing what looks like homework while picking at the little food in front of her. He had seen her in a couple of his classes this year already and she intrigued him because she always was just listening to music or doing the work assigned. He’s not sure he’s heard or seen her talk until earlier that day when he spotted her talking to Mike and handing him a book. “Wheeler, you know her don’t you?”
“Huh?” Mike follows where the older man's attention is before turning back to him and shrugging. “Oh, yeah. That’s my sister Y/n.”
“I didn’t know you had a second sister.” Eddie leans forward and the rest of the club nods along, a little surprised to hear that.
“Y/n’s the best, Mike doesn’t talk about her for whatever reason though.” Dustin chimes in, glaring a little at his friend. “If she was my sister I’d talk about her all the time.”
“You do talk about her all the time.” Mike rolls his eyes going back to paying attention to his food. “I’m shocked you haven’t told Eddie about her yet.”
“She never came up in conversation.” Dustin shrugs, turning back to look at Eddie. “She’s been driving me here in the mornings.”
“She’s been driving you to school? And you let her?” Mike sputters out not being able to believe this. But really he shouldn’t be surprised because from the first time you came down to the basement to offer the boys freshly baked cookies during a dungeons and dragons session Dustin and even Lucas and Will had all but claimed you as their own. Dustin even had a crush on you for the longest time before it faded away.
“Yeah, you should really take her up on her offers to drive you y'know, or you’ll be stuck coming in early with Nancy all year.”
“Y/n’s car is being held together with duct tape Dustin, duct tape. I’m not getting in that death trap.” Eddie smiles a little as he watches the two freshman bicker before turning his attention back to the Wheeler he didn’t know existed until now.
You’re oblivious to the attention you’re getting. You’re too focused on getting the math homework that’s due next period done that you didn’t have time to do after closing Elixir Records last night. You loved working at the little music store in town, it’s why you were so okay with working right after school till close, but sometimes you had to rush last minute to get your school work done because of how busy it could get. Normally you get your homework for that night done at lunch or at work with the rare time of having to stay up when you got home to finish it. Last night was one of those once in a blue moon times that you still had some to do but you were so tired from running around the shop trying to get the stock done that your coworker who walked out the day before, your day off, was supposed to do that you had passed out at your desk.
You’re distracted by finishing up the worksheet and the music flowing through your ears so you don’t notice Dustin walking up to you. His presence is so sudden and unexpected that when you glance up and see him standing in front of you you jump a bit in your seat. You pull your headphones down to sit around your neck and drop the pencil in your hand so he knows he has your full attention.
“Jeez Dustbunny give a girl some warning before popping up out of the blue.”
“Sorry, I thought maybe you would’ve noticed me coming.”
“What do you need, bud?”
“I was just wondering if you were still willing to take me home after school? If not that’s fine Eddie offered to give me a ride since he wanted to talk to me about this new campaign he’s planning for Hellfire.” The boy in front of you points with his thumb over his shoulder at the older boy who ducks his head down when you peer around Dustin to look his way.
You knew of Eddie Munson, it was hard not to have at least heard of him before. He was in some of your classes this year and Dustin’s told you about him and their club during the drive to school. You admired how he took your brother and his friends under his wing almost immediately. You’ve never interacted with him yourself but you knew he wasn’t the freak everyone wanted to see him as.
“Yeah I can still drive you home, I told Lucas I’d give him a ride too. But if you wanna go with Eddie that works for me. It’ll give me a smidge more time to get ready for work.”
“Okay, I’ll let him know. Are you closing the shop again tonight?”
“Yeah, you want me to see if there’s anything good in the clearance section for you again?” He smiles wide at the offer. He loved when you presented him with music you thought he’d like that you found on sale at work. Sometimes you’d even hand him a tape of an album that just came out.
“If you have time, yeah. I’ll let you get back to your work.” He motions to the almost complete worksheet in front of you. “I’ll see you tomorrow Y/n!”
“See ya Dustin.” You smile at the boy before he turns and heads back to his table. You put your headphones back on, giving Eddie a small wave when your eyes meet, and get back to finishing up the last two problems before you can move on to the work you’ve been given for tonight.
“Tomorrow we’ll be picking lab partners for the first big project of the year.” Ms. O’Donnell rushes out after the bell rings and everyone starts collecting their things. Picking partners is your least favorite thing and you wish she would’ve just assigned them like most other teachers. You have no idea who you’d pick with not really making the effort to become friends with anyone anymore. After Barb ditched you to be better friends with Nancy you stopped trying, you figured anyone else would just do the same thing. As you make your way out of the classroom you see Eddie in the corner of your eye finishing up a doodle in his notebook, something you’ve noticed he does a lot instead of paying attention. Maybe you’ll see if he wants to be your lab partner because you doubt anyone is going to be fighting to be his. You don’t even care about doing all the work if you have to.
You rush down the hall knowing that Lucas is probably gonna beat you to your locker. His last class is right next to his own and that’s down the hall from yours. You dive around people in the halls who are moving slowly distracted by talking to their friends instead of hurrying to get home. You smile when you see Lucas walking up to your locker unlocking it for you.
“You ready to go?” You ask, grabbing your bag and shoving your notebooks into it.
“Yeah, are we waiting for Dustin and Mike?”
“No, Dustin’s getting a ride with Eddie and Mike told me he’s going home with Nancy again.” You both make your way down the hallway towards the entrance of the school. “How were basketball tryouts yesterday?”
“They were alright, I think I made the team but I won’t be sure until next week.”
“Well if you didn’t make the team they’re dumb. You’re a great player, I mean you always beat me when we play together.” You bump your shoulder into his own and he laughs at you.
“Yeah that’s because you suck at sports.” You send him a mock hurt face over the roof of your car.
“That’s the rudest thing anyone has ever said to me.” Lucas just rolls his eyes getting into the car and you shoot him a smile once you’re seated next to him. “Seriously though Lukey I’m sure you made the team you’ve been practicing since you found out about the team.”
“Stop using that nickname Y/n, I’m not a little kid anymore.” He groans out but turns to look out of the window so you can’t see the small smile on his face.
“I’ll never stop. Now let’s go get your sister and blow this popsicle stand.” With that you pull out of the parking spot and start over to the middle school.
You make it to work twenty minutes early but after getting home and changing your dad started going on about how you need to do stuff for college already and how Nancy already filled out college applications. All you wanted to do was scream about how that’s because Nancy knew what she wanted to do after high school and the only thing on your radar is moving out as soon as you graduate. You didn’t though, you had stopped responding to his tangents with anything other than ‘yeah I’ll get right on that dad’ since the first time you got held back in the eighth grade.
You searched through the cassettes on sale deciding on the Eagles first album to get for Dustin before checking that you can clock in. You spend the first hour of your shift restocking the vinyls that are getting low. Once that’s finished you switch out the album that had finished playing over the store's speakers for a new one before moving behind the counter for the next six hours of your shift. After checking out the two people that were in the shop you pull out the book assigned for English to get the next chapter read for the day after tomorrow. You’re halfway through it when the bell above the door chimes once more and you glance up from it to find Eddie Munson himself entering the store. You giggle at his wide eyes from the sound of the new bell and his head snaps from where it’s tilted up to examine where the chime came from to where you’re sitting behind the counter. His mouth parts slightly as you give him a friendly smile before looking back down at the book and continuing reading.
Eddie stumbles a bit at seeing you here. He’s been buying albums from this store almost exclusively since it opened and he’s never seen you here. He never would’ve thought that the intriguing girl he just found out was Mike’s sister would be working at his favorite music store the night he came for a fucking Abba album. His eyes keep finding their way to your slouched over figure as he makes his way over to where he knows he’ll find their Super Trouper album. On his way to the counter he grabs a Megadeth album that he definitely already has to make this situation less weird.
“Did you find everything okay?” You ask putting in the bookmark and shutting the book before placing it off to the side.
“Yeah.” He so badly wants to say something else to you but his mind blanks as he hesitantly places the tapes on the counter.
“Do you wanna be my lab partner in Ms. O’Donnells class?” You blurt it out as you ring him up.
“What?”
“We’re in the same science class and she said we’re picking lab partners tomorrow.”
“No, I know that. You want to be mine?”
“Well yeah. Why not? Unless you already have one of course. I just don’t really have anyone else I’d want to do it with.” Your voice softens near the end and Eddie can see a hint of loneliness flash across your face before you try to cover it up with a smile. He can tell that’s what it is based on your words, tone, and the fact that he’s felt the same way before. It’s not often people want to hang around the town freak.
“Nah I don’t have one yet. So if you’ll have me Y/n I’ll be your partner.”
“You know who I am?”
“Yeah, I noticed you sitting alone at lunch today and Mike and Dustin told me about you.” He rubs the back of his neck a little embarrassed to admit that he was watching you.
“Mike was talking about me? Willingly?” The disbelief is strong in your voice and it shocks Eddie because as soon as the two boys had started talking about you they couldn’t seem to stop.
“Why do you sound so shocked about that?” Eddie leans his elbows on the counter resting his weight on them.
“Oh, it’s just I don’t know, Mike never seems to be all that interested in being related to me I guess. It’s not that we have a bad relationship or anything, he just seems to want to be around Nancy more. Probably because they’re closer in age.” You add in the last part more to reassure yourself.
“Really? He seemed to have nothing but good things to say about you and I’ve never seen him talk about Nancy with the sort of excitement he had today. And Dustin seems to absolutely adore you.” You can feel yourself getting flustered at his words and his scrutinizing gaze.
“Oh I love Dustin, he’s my little Dustbunny.” You look away as you begin to bag up his items and he chuckles at the nickname.
“Dustbunny?”
“Oh shit, don’t tell him you know that. As much as Mike's friends enjoy my nicknames for them, they hate when I use them in public for everyone else to hear. You should see Lucas’s face when I use his, he’s slapped a hand over my mouth before.” You laugh just thinking about it and Eddie finds himself hoping to hear the sound again. “Their friend Will gets absolutely blushy when I say his a little too loudly.”
“Oh I definitely need to know what all of their nicknames are.” You shake your head and mimic zipping your mouth shut and throwing the key over the counter. “You can’t just tell me they hate them and not tell me!” Eddie complains before diving to act like he’s searching for the key and jumping up victoriously and acting out unlocking your mouth. “Please, you’re killing me here Y/n.” You ignore the feeling of his fingers on your lips as he unzips them and laugh as you knock his hand away.
“Fine I’ll tell you Will’s since he’s all the way in Cali and it’s unlikely you’ll meet him anytime soon.” You let out another round of giggles at how he perks up at hearing that. “I call him Yam Yam. It started as just calling him Will Yam since his full name is William but then I discovered how much fun it is to call out Yam Yam instead. Now that’s it, forget you heard his and Dustins, no one needs to know that you know alright?”
“I’m not promising anything.” He holds his hands up and shakes his head before pointing at you. “You shouldn’t have fallen into my trap and told me.”
“That’s not fair, how's anyone supposed to deny your big puppy dog eyes?” The bell above the door chimes again and you quiet down since someone else has entered the store. “How about this, you don’t bring up the nickname thing to them and I won’t tell everyone about how our resident metalhead is a secret Abba head?”
“Fine, you drive a hard bargain.”
“Your total is thirteen dollars by the way.” He places a ten and a five dollar bill on the counter while taking the bag from you.
“Keep the change.” He motions towards the tip jar next to the register. “I know all about your taped together car.”
“Get out of here I will not tolerate disrespect towards my sweet sweet car. I’ll see you tomorrow Eddie.” He laughs as you shoo him away and listens to you greet the next customer on his way out the door. He can’t seem to shake his smile the rest of the night.
The next day you’re a little shocked when Eddie takes a seat next to you in your shared third period English class. As he pulls out the chair next to you he also pulls your headphones down to rest on your neck. It causes you to immediately straighten up not sure who it was at first but relax when you see the brunette take a seat next to you.
“So, do I get a fun little nickname now that we’re friends?”
“Who said we’re friends now?”
“Uh, you did when you asked me to be your lab partner. You signed a contract and everything. Is that Motley Crue playing?” He takes the headphones you’ve placed on the table while you went to stop your walkman and places them on his head just before the music cuts off.
“I don’t remember signing any kind of contract, you'll have to talk to my lawyer. And then maybe we’ll see about that nickname you want.” You smile at him, taking the headphones back and turning to face the teacher as he starts to speak. Eddie’s attention stays on you for a little bit longer before pulling out his notebook and starting to doodle instead of paying attention.
At lunch Eddie spends the first half of it with his attention drifting from the guys over to where you’re sitting doing the same thing as yesterday. His legs bounces up and down as he fights the urge to get up and go bother you. In the end he loses the battle and pushes away from the table the screeching of the chair on the floor causing Dustin to stop mid sentence as the group watches him walk over to you.
“So, I’ve spoken to your lawyer, sadly the contract is binding and you’re stuck with me.” He says after knocking your headphones down over your face. You let out a fake sigh of disappointment as he sits next to you spreading out.
“I guess I am, you sure he couldn’t find some sort of loophole? He’s normally so good at that.”
“Nope. What are you working on?” He pulls your notebook to sit in front of him instead of you. “This doesn’t look like a list of nicknames for you to choose from.”
“It’s my psych notes. I gotta study now for the test tomorrow because I probably won’t have time tonight after work. Don’t worry though Eddie I had a nickname picked out for you from the very beginning.” You pull said notes back to you watching how his face lights up at your words. You can’t help but match his smile with one of your own.
“What is it?”
“You’ll find out when you’ll find out.” You shrug and look away from him back down at your notes.
“What kind of an answer is that?” You laugh as his arms flail around with his question.
“Looks like someones cozying up with Y/n.” Dustin teases Mike as they watch the two of you laugh together.
“Shut up Dustbunny.” Mike grumbles to his friend as he turns away and focuses on his food again in a mood over Eddie seeming to be into his sister.
“You’re not supposed to call me that Mikey Mouse.” Dustin kicks Mike under the table. “You gonna go all overprotective little brother mode on him?”
“Pft no why would I?”
“Because you do that. You don’t notice how you start acting towards people who seem to want to get close to her? You come off real standoffish and try to seem tougher like that’s possible.”
“I do not, just shut up Dustin.”
“Dustin! Are you coming or what?” You yell out seeing him across the parking lot at Eddie’s van. “We gotta pick up Erica!”
“I’m coming!” Once he’s in the car with you and Lucas you drive up next to Eddie and stop. “If you were coming here anyway, why'd you yell for me?”
“Because you should’ve already been in the car.” You lean over the middle console and Lucas to stick your head out the window. “Hey Eddie, you coming over to work on the project still?”
“Yeah, do you want me to follow you?” He leans down so your heads are closer together.
“No you can just head straight there since I gotta drop Dustin off first. You remember which house it is right? I know you’ve given Mike rides home after club meetings before.”
“Yeah, I remember where it is. So I’ll meet you there?”
“Yep.”
“You guys done throwing goo goo eyes at each other over me?” Lucas complains and you give him a side eye.
“Shut up Lukey Poo-” You’re cut off as Lucas throws a hand over your mouth wide eyed and pulls you back in the car.
“Okay bye Eddie she’ll see you in like not even twenty minutes! Y/n go, drive, Erica’s gonna be all crabby if we’re late again.”
“We’ll just blame it on Dustin again. See you soon Eddie!” Eddie laughs as you peel out of the parking lot turning into the middle schools. He’s pretty sure he was about to find out your nickname for Lucas if the kid hadn't pulled you back into the car. His mission is to find out your nicknames for each of the freshmen at some point.
“See you tomorrow Dustbunny!” You yell getting the middle finger in response from where he is on his doorstep. You laugh as you watch him get inside before pulling away and heading home. As you drive up your street you spot Eddie getting out of his van and Lucas groans.
“Y/n please do not yell that goddamn nickname as I walk away. Not with Eddie right there.”
“No Y/n do it.”
“Erica shut up, you’re just lucky for not having one yet.” You laugh at the Sinclairs pulling into the spot in front of the house sitting between your house and their own. You weren’t planning to use it before but now you think you will just because he complained about it. You let the kids get out first, giving Lucas time to walk away and feel safe before getting out yourself.
“Hey Eddie.” You step out of your car and give him a wave. “Hold on just one minute. Bye Erica, bye Lukey Pookey, see you both tomorrow!” Eddie laughs as the younger kids groan is loud enough that it reaches his ears.
“Lukey Pookey?”
“I normally just use the first part but when he annoys me or I can tell he’s really upset I use the full nickname. Now c’mon you get to meet the parents on our way up to my room.” Eddie’s head swims with thoughts of being a disappointment to your parents and immediately not getting an approval from them. Meanwhile you’re getting ready for whatever it is your father might say to you in front of your new friend. He’s sitting in his normal chair when you enter and you give him a wave and a smile. Your mom isn’t anywhere to be seen but you’re sure she’s in the kitchen making dinner. “Hey dad, this is Eddie, we’re gonna go work on our science project.”
“Nice to see you actually put in the effort. Maybe you’ll actually graduate this year instead of failing again.” Your heart drops at the same time that your eye twitches and your smile falls for the fraction of a millisecond, both things that Eddie catches. He doesn’t even look up from his paper to greet Eddie as he speaks.
“Yeah, that’s the plan.” You grab Eddie's wrist and quickly make your escape from the living room and into the kitchen where your mom is getting ready to make dinner it seems. “Mom this is Eddie, we’re gonna be upstairs working on a science project if you need us.”
“Is he staying for dinner?” You look at Eddie expecting him to answer the question while your mom straightens up.
“Uh, no that’s fine Mrs. Wheeler, I don't want to be a bother.”
“You wouldn’t be a bother. I normally make more food than I should in case one of Mike's friends stops by out of the blue. Not that I would need to worry about not having enough, Y/n barely ever eats with us anymore so her portion goes uneaten.” You stop the eye roll that wants to happen at how she’s trying to guilt trip you again. It’s not your fault you have to work all the time in order to pay off your car when they just straight up bought Nancy one. And you wouldn’t need to save up to get a place of your own if your dad wasn’t awful to you.
“Eddie would love to stay for dinner mom. We should really start working on our project now though.” You pull Eddie away and up the stairs pausing in your journey only to wave to Mike who’s jaw drops at seeing Eddie trail behind you.
“So, they seem interesting.” Eddie says about your parents once your door is shut and you’ve collapsed face first onto your bed. You wish you could scream into your pillow right about now.
“Yeah, interesting is definitely a word for them.” You roll onto your back and Eddie sits next to you.
“What did your dad mean about failing again? If you don’t mind me asking, that is.”
“I’m two years older than Nancy. The first time I got held back and failed was in the eighth grade because I had a hard time getting myself to get out of bed most mornings so I just didn’t go to school. My mom helped me get through a lot that year actually. And then I failed sophomore year because I kept skipping in order to go to work to get my car. My dad refuses to let me live either of those times down, always bringing up how pretty perfect Nancy never had to get held back.”
“Well failing isn’t that bad, I mean look at me I’m going on try number three on senior year. Schools tough, especially when you’ve got other things distracting you from it. Besides, you're not gonna fail this year because everytime I see you, you're busy working on something for classes since all your free time is at the shop. So you’ll be off to college and out of here in no time.” You smile at his words and sit up to kiss his cheek.
“Thanks Eddie, I’ll make sure you graduate this year too.”
Dinner has an awkward vibe around it that night. Eddie sits next to you, the both of you across from Mike and Nancy, the two of them not seeming to know how to act with your guest around. Nancy keeps side eyeing him while Mike just stares into Eddie’s soul. Your parents both sit at the heads of the table silently eating until your dad clears his throat.
“You wouldn’t happen to be that Munson kid would you?” His words cause you to choke on your food and Eddie sends you a worried glance before looking at your dad.
“Yes sir, that's me.”
“Didn’t you flunk out of high school?”
“No sir, I just failed senior year twice because I was too focused on my club. I’m graduating this year though my friends are helping me stay on track.”
“Y/n are you sure this is the type of person you want to surround yourself with?” You nearly spit out your drink.
“Dad!”
“I’ve heard some rumors about this kid and colleges aren’t going to want to accept you if you’re friends with freaks.’
“Ted!” Your mom exclaims while your siblings look at him wide eyes and mouths gaping. They haven’t seen the two of you in a fight in a while but Mike knows that this is definitely going to start one either between the two of you or with him and his dad.
“Eddie’s not a freak! I can’t believe you would call him that when Mikes into the same stuff that gets him called one. Eddie’s nothing but a sweetheart, you should see how he stands up for Mike and his friends and how at home they are with him. And who cares what colleges think of my friends, I don’t even think I’m going!” Your mom gasps along with Nancy. Mike is busy moving his eyes between you and your dad and Eddie places a calming hand on your knee.
“Mrs. Wheeler, this meal is just delightful. I think it might be the best food I’ve had in a while.” Eddie says smiling towards your mom to try to break the tension a little bit. It’s not a lie either, with Wayne going to the plant early lately he’s mainly just been eating scraps.
“Oh! Thank you Eddie, feel free to come by for dinner whenever you like.”
“Sure thing!” With that everyone goes back to eating and Eddie leans over to whisper in your ear. “Next time, let’s do this at my place.”
“Yeah definitely.” You whisper back to him before focusing on your food hoping if you eat quickly enough you can escape with Eddie without another comment from your father.
You walk Eddie to the door and wait until he gets into his van later wanting to kill time before having to go in and deal with the consequences of your words earlier. Hopefully you can avoid him altogether and go straight to your room but you can feel the storm brewing from outside. You just know he’s waiting inside getting ready for a screaming match. Something the two of you haven’t had since your second year as a sophomore and you started picking up every shift you could so as to avoid him as much as possible.
“Y/n.” His stern yelling but not a yell voice reaches your ears as you start to walk past the living room making you wince before backtracking.
“What?” You cross your arms standing in the entrance refusing to look away from him to glance at Mike and Nancy on the couch. You refuse to let him think he makes you even a little bit nervous by breaking eye contact first.
“You really are stupid if you think we’re not talking about what you said at dinner.”
“I’m not stupid, I just don’t want to talk about it with you.” You grit your teeth feeling the anger boiling up inside you.
“You’re going to college Y/n. You’re not going to be a burn out working at the music shop and living at home the rest of your life.”
“I won’t be. As soon as I graduate I’m gonna find my own place to live and you won’t have to worry about me anymore.” Mike’s eyes go wide at hearing this information, he didn’t know you were planning on moving out. Were you going to stay in town, or were you going to get the hell out of dodge? Was this year his last year to have a relationship with you before he only sees you on major holidays? Is he going to lose his big sister because his dad is that big of an asshole? He starts to get anxious at the thought and gets stuck in his head for a bit tuning out the fight in front of him.
“And I don’t want you hanging around that Munson kid anymore, he’s a bad influence on you. He’s probably the reason you think you don’t have to go to college.” You force out a fake laugh at his words and Mike’s attention goes back to the two of you.
“That’s rich, you never cared about who my friends were before so don’t try to care now. Why don’t you just open up and tell me exactly what you want to say about him.”
“No daughter of mine is going to be hanging around a known satanist!” You actually laugh at his words this time feigning wiping tears from your eyes.
“That’s funny, really it is. Because even if that were true, which it’s not, that means a satanist takes better care of your son than you do. And you should be embarrassed about that regardless of what religion Eddie may be. You’re supposed to be the protector aren’t you? So why is Eddie the one batting away the bullies and building up his self esteem and doing your job for you?”
“Get out! And don’t come back until you have a head back on your shoulders.” He points to the door and you put your hands up in surrender.
“What?” Nancy and Mike both look at each other in shock.
“Fine, I guess I won’t be coming back.” You turn on your heel and run to your room in order to pack up some clothes and buy you some time to figure out where you’re going to go. Worst case scenario you could see if Steve would let you crash at his place for a few nights. Sure the two of you aren’t the best of friends but you’re close enough after everything you’ve been through together to know that he probably wouldn’t say no. By the time you’re heading for the door you’ve decided on trying Eddie’s first, knowing where he lives because of seeing him here and there when you’ve gone to Max’s to pick her up.
“Hey, Y/n?” Mike stops you before you can leave.
“What’s up Mikey Mouse?”
“Do you think you could drive me to school tomorrow?” Your heart swells at him wanting to spend time with you.
“Of course I can bud.” You ruffle his hair. “Can you tell mom I love her when she gets home? I was hoping she’d be home before I left so I could say bye.” She had taken Holly out for ice cream after dinner and hasn’t gotten back yet.
“How long do you think you’ll be gone?”
“I’ll be back when he stops being an ass. So probably in a couple days after mom reems him out and makes him apologize.”
“Where are you going to go?” He follows you out the door towards your car and you can’t help but smile at his worry.
“Don’t worry about me kid, I'll figure it out. I’ll see you tomorrow morning okay? We’re driving the Sinclairs and Dustin too.” You get in the car and start it before thinking about it and winding down your window to stick your head out to look at your brother. “I love you Mikey Mouse.”
“I love you too Y/n/n.” You beam at him and drive off towards your destination.
“Y/n?” The sound of Max’s voice calling out to you causes you to spin around to face her trailer instead of Eddie’s. She’s crouched outside feeding her dog and straightens up as she realizes it really is you waving and walking towards her. She meets you halfway letting you give her a hug, something she hasn’t really been letting anyone do. “What are you doing here?”
“Pops kicked me out so I’m gonna see if I can crash at Eddie’s.”
“Do you wanna just crash here? My mom won’t mind, I think she’d even be excited that I had someone over.” You can hear the worry in her voice at the thought of you being kicked out.
“Nah, I’m good, Eddie and I gotta work more on this science project anyway.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah don’t worry Max and Cheese, if I can’t stay or I get uncomfortable at all I’ll come running right back over.”
“You better.” You nod at her letting go of her shoulders and heading back over to Eddie’s.
“Hey!” You yell out as she turns to head towards her door. “You want a ride to school tomorrow? I’m getting the others too. It can be like old times when I’d drive the clown car full of all of you down to the arcade.”
“Is there gonna be room in your car for that?”
“Even if there isn't, we'll make it work, we always have in the past.” There’s something on your face making her want to finally say yes to the question you’ve been asking her all year.
“Well then yeah sure. I’ll take a ride.”
“Great, see you tomorrow!” You’re smiling despite everything when you knock on Eddie’s door. Even if Max just has her headphones on and ignores everyone the whole way to school it’s still a win in your book.
“Y/n?” Eddie’s voice is full of shock as he opens the door to find you standing there with a duffel bag thrown over your shoulder.
“Hey Eds, can I come in?” He holds open the door and steps to the side before smirking in your direction. Upon seeing him in his pajamas you worry that you may have caught him right as he was going to bed but then he probably wouldn’t have let you in so quickly.
“Eds? Is that the nickname you came up with? I thought you’d be more creative than that.”
“Oh don’t worry, you just have a couple of them.”
“So…”
“So?”
“What are you doing here Sweetheart? How did you even know where I lived?”
“Um well, funny story actually,” you offer up a sad chuckle, “my dad kinda kicked me out tonight. We really got into it after you left. I saw you over here when I helped Max and her mom move into the trailer across the street.”
“Do you want to talk about it?” He steps closer to you wanting to scratch the itch he has to pull you into his chest.
“Not really, I basically told him he should be embarrassed that you’re doing a better job raising Mike than he ever did and that seemed to be the thing that crossed the line. So that’s that. Do you think I could crash here for a night or two until my mom eventually figures out where I am and convinces me to come home?”
“Yeah of course. You can have the bed and I’ll sleep out here on the couch.”
“What? Eddie no I couldn’t take your bed. I’m the one intruding, I'll sleep on the couch.”
“Nope, can’t let you do that besides Wayne might get weird if he sees a pretty girl asleep on the couch when he gets home in the morning.” He gently grabs your wrist and pulls you through the little space there is to his room. “Sorry it’s a bit of a mess, can’t say I was expecting company.” He’s quick to kick the magazines laying on the floor under his bed while ducking down to grab the dirty clothes strewn across the floor to throw them in his hamper. He’s blushing up a storm as your eyes drag across the poster covered walls.
“Don’t worry about it, I’ve seen messier. I mean I live with Mike. Is this a lion costume?” Your eyes snag on his open closet and you reach out to touch it. And here Eddie thought he couldn’t get any redder.
“Yeah, I was the cowardly lion in the school's production of The Wizard of Oz a year or two back.”
“Oh yeah, I remember going to see that. Corroded Coffin’s your band right?” Eddie watches as you step up to look at the ripped poster he and the guys had made before one of their first shows.
“Yeah it’s just me and the older guys from Hellfire.”
“Are you the reason Mike’s been eyeing up the guitar in the music shop lately? I think I’m gonna get it for him as a really early Christmas present when I get paid next.”
“He’s asked me a few times about playing and I told him I would teach him how to. He doesn’t even need to have his own guitar; he could use one of mine while he learns.” Speaking of guitars Eddie grabs the one he left on the bed before going to get the door and leans it in the corner of the room. “So the bathroom is right out there, hopefully you brought your own toothbrush because we don’t have extras just laying around.” Eddie walks to the door and points to the small room hoping it wouldn’t make you claustrophobic or anything. “Feel free to use the shower if you need to.”
“Thanks again Eddie.” You stop to place a kiss on his cheek for the second time tonight on your way out. He stands there frozen for a hot minute before rushing around his room and cleaning up some more making sure he gets all the junk, like his notebooks and his copy of Lord of The Rings that he’s rereading again, that he normally just leaves on the side of the bed is put away.
You glance at the shower wondering if you should but decide against it since you did last night and you didn’t even think to bring shampoo or conditioner or anything. You had barely remembered your toothbrush and toothpaste. So you just brush your teeth and get dressed before sitting on the edge of the tub with your head in your hands. Sure you’ve been kicked out before, it’s how you know your mom will come looking for you, but something about this fight feels like your relationship with your father will forever be changed. You sigh and stand up ready to just pass out and leave the day behind you. You walk back into Eddie’s room to find him organizing his desk like a mad man. The room is a lot cleaner than it was when you first walked in.
“Did you do all this cleaning just for little old me?”
“Can’t have a princess sleeping in a pigsty.” He straightens up and smiles at you while you drop your bag onto the floor and sit on the bed. “I’ll leave you to it, come get me if you need anything.”
“Why don’t we just share the bed? It’s big enough and I promise I don’t snore.”
“Are you sure?”
“Of course I’m sure it’s your bed anyway and I’m not gonna lie your couch doesn’t look too comfortable.”
“Okay fine, stop begging me to sleep with you, I’ll do it.” You laugh at his over exaggerating and he smiles in accomplishment at getting the dark cloud you came back into the room with to disappear. He turns off the lights before getting into the bed next to you making sure to leave you space instead of taking all of it up like he normally does. You take him by surprise though when you shimmy your way next to him.
“Sorry, I’m a cuddler. I can go back to where I was if you want.”
“No, you’re fine. I can be a cuddler.” With that he stretches his arm out so you can rest your head on his chest.
“Thank you for everything Angel Eyes.”
“Angel Eyes?”
“It’s your nickname, since your eyes are so pretty and you like Abba too.” Eddie never felt so grateful over the darkness as he is in this moment. He can feel how red his face is at your comment about his eyes and he’s nervous you can still tell and he’s glowing like a light bulb. He clears his throat before speaking.
“Pretty unoriginal to just steal the title of a song isn’t it. You should just come up with a new one.”
“Don’t worry Eddie Bear I still have a few different ones up my sleeve. Goodnight.” You place a kiss on his chest before nestling your head into it and closing your eyes.
“Goodnight Y/n.” Eddie beams up at the ceiling and wraps his arm a little bit tighter around you.

summary | In which nutcracker season is at its peak, and spending quality time with Eddie Munson is impossible. Eddie decides to surprise you after a long day of rehearsing, but ends up watching you in awe as you rehearse for your role as the sugar plum fairy in your academy's production of The Nutcracker.

a/n | hey y'all!!! so I'd like to say that I am ballet dancer myself, so I know my stuff. This fic was very fun to write, especially because it's Nutcracker season right now, and that there was no research that had to be done! Bye!
⚠️ i will not allow anyone copy and pasting my work into any other social platform or site without consulting with me first ⚠️
───────────────────────
Eddie arrived to pick you up after your rehearsal, but you aren’t anywhere to be seen. He looks back down to the note card placed in his lap.
“16700 Dawn Rd, Ronan IN,” he read aloud. “Where the fuck is she?”
Due to your schedule with ballet, you and Eddie were unable to go on any sort of date, even spending some quality time together. He knew how hard it was for you, dancing everyday and all, but he hated not being able to see your face everyday after school and wrapping you up in his arms after a long day.
He looked out of his van window to see the large building with big, bold letters, written, “Balanchine Classical Ballet Academy,” which stood out compared to the white concrete walls of the exterior part of the building. Deciding whether to stay in the van, or go out and see if you were there or not, Eddie chose to get out. As he opens the driver’s side door, a cold gust of wind hits him like a bullet. Quickly, Eddie slams the door shut and goes to find a spare jacket hidden in the trunk. As soon as he finds it, he puts it on, and opens the door once more. The cold air comes back again but because of the big, warm coat Eddie had put on, it wasn’t as bad as it was before. Eddie approaches the large building with a scrunch on his face, he hates how the melted snow feels on his skin.
Once he enters the academy doors, Eddie is met with a busy atmosphere with little girls in pink and blue Capezio leotards and dance moms sewing costumes together while gossiping. All studios were occupied with dancers rehearsing for their production of The Nutcracker which was just around the corner from now. Eddie looks up at the tall walls covered in awards from ballet competitions from prior years, and photographs of very famous dancers. On one part of the wall hung a collection of headshots of the older dancers who’ve won all of the awards as well as bring some pride to the academy. He gazed up to the top and was met with your face. You wore a bright smile with your hair in a neat, tight bun. Right under was a gold plate that had “Y/n L/n, 1st place Winner of the International Grand Prix” engraved into it.
Eddie was interrupted by a voice of an older woman, “Do you need help, sir?”.
Eddie looks back to see a rather tall woman with a cane in hand. He looks past her and sees the group of gossiping mothers with concerned faces staring at him. Eddie realizes the situation and immediately begins panicking.
“Oh, I wasn’t here to cause any trouble, I was waiting for my girlfriend, you see-“
“Stop,” the woman demands. Eddie quickly silenced himself, the woman was awfully frightening. “I know who you are and I know you mean no harm.”
Eddie was taken aback, “How the fuck does she know who I am?,” he thought.
“Waiting for Ms. L/n I presume?” The older woman asks.
“Uhh yea, she’s usually done at 5:00, but she wasn’t outside, so I came in to see if she was here.”
The lady nods, “come with me,” she gestures to Eddie to follow her as they stride across a long hallway, studios on each side of the wall. Eddie’s eyes were glued to the floor, while people move out of their way for the lady to walk by. The loud noises were soon turned into hushes, and the only thing you could hear was the music coming from the studios, the whispering, and the click clacks of the woman’s heels.
Turning the corner, a group of dancers were all packed around a window, watching the rehearsal. They all stood in silence as they watched in awe of the beautiful ballerina. By the sound of the women's heels clicking once again, the dancers snapped their heads towards her away, and quickly gathered their bags and moved along.
“I guess I really am that frightening,” the woman chuckled.
“No shit, Sherlock, you look like you’d kill me with that cane,” Eddie thought, scratching the back of his head.
The woman stops right in front of the window where the prior dancers were standing. Eddie stops as well, and looks into the studio. A ballerina engrossed in the music made her away across the room and into a lift, a man held her high up into the air.
“Here she is,” the woman says, stepping to the side.
Eddie grows closer to the window and watches you. A navy blue leotard hugged your figure, and the black practice tutu you wore complimented it perfectly. The new pointe shoes you put on at the beginning of the day were now completely dead as the ribbons and elastic were holding by the threads. The shank and box were “soggy”, however, that didn’t matter at the moment. Eddie noticed how you moved your arms, it was almost as if they were in a fluid state. He marveled at the sight of you in such a graceful state.
As the ending of the Sugar Plum and Cavalier Pas De Deux came to a close, you sat yourself down while you gasped for air. The dance was so exhausting it left you breathless.
“Beautiful isn’t she?” the woman compliments. “I’ve taught her since she was nine years old. Never failed to disappoint me.”
Eddie nods, unsure of what to say.
You pack up your bags and replace the practice tutu with black trash bag pants. You take your dead pointe shoes off and put on normal everyday shoes. Your french twist, that had been neat and slick back at the beginning of the day, was now messed up with dozens of fly-always sticking at your skin. Your sweat creates a stain on your leotard, but who the fuck cared.
“Bye, Dmitri,” you wave. Dmitri, your pas de deux partner, waves back and says his goodbyes. You bring the bag to your shoulder and begin making your way out of the studio. Upon walking out, Eddie props himself against the door frame, making himself known.
“Eddie!” Your eyes brighten, hurrying over to embrace him into a tight hug. “I was going to call you to pick me up, but you're here!”
“Yea, I watched you do your twirling stuff,” Eddie said, in which he starts to mimic your en dedan turns.
“Wow, Eddie, you’re so funny. Ha ha,” you say, sarcastically of course. “Shit, sorry, you were probably bored. I didn’t think rehearsal would run for that long.”
“What! I like watching you dance, it was nice ,” Eddie wraps his arm around your shoulder while beginning to leave.
“Really? Do you think so? I say that sweat stains and bruised toe nails would say otherwise, but I’ll take the compliment,” you chuckle.
Walking into the lobby, hand-in-hand, the gossiping mothers turn their heads towards your way, staring at the two of you walk by.
“Did you see that?” One of them whispers.
“Yea, never thought someone like her would go for someone like him,” another replies.
“Well, I think they look cute together.”
“I saw them at the park this one time, they looked really happy.”
“I heard someone say that he’s a cult leader.”
“Oh shut your mouth, Carol. No one believes in that kind of stuff anymore.”
You and Eddie try not to laugh when you hear the gossiping. The pretty, kind, ballerina with the crazy, drug addict, metal head? Of course, no one would have thought that it would ever happen!

“Y/n! Honey?” You laughed as you fixed your costume. “Coming mom!” you chuckled as you rolled your baggy button up shirt up to your elbows. “Are you really going out like that?” she asked you as you walked out of your bedroom. “Who are you supposed to be anyways?” you sighed. “Sarah from labyrinth, mom!” you told her, posing for a photo she took before making your way into the kitchen to grab a coke from the fridge.
“Well it’s just you and Holly for an hour, Mike is getting a ride home with the others and Nancy is with her friends. She'll be back around 7, me and your dad will be back around, 12 or 11. Wish me luck! Be careful taking her out trick or treating.” “I’m the second oldest mom, I know how my siblings work!” You chuckled as you walked to the door and watched as your parents left. “Just you and me, hol!” you gently bumped her with your hip. “Parents are gone, time to party! Whatcha wanna do first?” She quietly places her coloring books onto the island. You smiled at her and helped her drag over a seat from the dining table.
You and Holly had been coloring strawberry shortcake for an hour before you realized the trick or treaters would be showing up soon. You quickly got Holly in her costume. “Nice choice holly!” you held your hand up for a high five which she quickly gave before turning around to look at her costume again.
“Y/n, Holly! I’m home, I have robin and steve with me!” you poked your head out of your bedroom door. “Hi Nancy, Robin, stevie!” you teased him as you walked over to the trio, holly trailing behind you, down the stairs and into the kitchen.
“Nice costume steve!” you smiled at him, he was dressed up as a Baseball furies, thurman to be exact  “Thanks, are you supposed to be some poor village girl?” You stared at Steve confused. “How do you work at a MOVIE video store and have no clue who I am! Robin, please tell him!” Steve turned to Robin who smiled at your costume.
“Sarah, labyrinth.” You both high fived as you walked past her and right to get Holly's bucket for the night. “Well at least i know holly’s costume, Cabbage patch doll, right?” You, Nancy and Robin laughed at his answer. “Where’s the other weasel?” you smiled at steve. “At his club. He’s getting a ride back tonight!” you smirked and filled up the bowl your mom had picked out to put outside for the kids to grab.
“Holls!” she ran up to you, flashlight in hand. “Alright we have a walkie, flashlight and our bags. Looks like we’re set! Ready for trick or treating holls?!” she nods at you eagerly.
You, robin, holly, nancy and steve walked out of your guys house and started walking down the street to start trick or treating.
Half an hour had passed by, Holly was on Steve's back, since her feet started hurting and she was slightly tired from the walking but still wanted to keep trick or treating. You walked ahead of the others, playing with the semi-full pillowcase in your hand. You quickly looked up as you heard groans and grunting.
You looked around and spotted The basketball team captain, Jason Carver, beating up your brother’s friend on the side of the road while the others held back your brother and his other friends.
You scoffed and walked up to Steve and grabbed the bat he was carrying around that night. “What are you doing?” he asked as he took your pillowcase and watched with nancy, and robin as you walked over towards the jocks.
“YOU’RE DEAD FREAK!” Jason told Eddie as he kept punching Eddie in the stomach. “Eddie!” you sighed and walked up behind Jason and swung the bat on his side. “Yeah that’s right, take that!” You were too busy hitting Jason to notice his and your brother's friends' gazes. “You don’t like it huh jason! Take that!” you kept swinging as his friends tried to grab you from behind. “Oww, you rotten bitch!” one of the jocks, Andy said as he held his now bleeding nose. “Try me asshole!” you again got ready to swing at him, unknowingly knocking out another jock.
Eddie watched on the grass in shock of you. Most of the jocks ran as they watched Jason, Andy and Chance run away from you. “Are you okay?” you asked eddie softly, “You know, uh..” he stayed quiet.
“I’ll be right back! COME HERE CARVER!” you told Eddie calmly, before chasing after Jason and his buddies. You had caught up to Andy fully and swung the bat hard at his side, you had managed to smack Jason again.
Steve and the others ran over to the others as they watched you, in surprise. “You got him!” Eddie yelled out to you. “Not good enough!” You yelled back. “Does anyone know her?” Gareth asked, confused. “I don’t know her but that’s my future wife.” Mike made a face of disgust “That’s my older sister y/n!” he explained, everyone’s eyes still on you swinging and giving the other jocks bloody noses as well. “Your sister’s hot wheeler!” Gareth and Dustin nodded in agreement with Eddie's words.
You sighed, a bit out of breath from beating Jason and his friends. You ran back over to your brother and his friends “What’s your name?” you asked Eddie, walking up to him, moving the hair that had fallen onto your face. “Uh, it’s eddie!” he smiled back and walked closer to you.
“You crazy bitch!” “My sides! I think she knocked out a tooth! Is it missing?!” “take me to the ER!”
You smiled at Eddie before turning around to watch Jason and the others run away. “YEAH! KEEP RUNNING!” You snickered as one fell onto the pavement. “Okay, he’s gone now!” you both laughed at your temper. “Never would have imagined my halloween night would end up with y/n wheeler who’s dressed up like sarah from labyrinth would beat the shit out of Jocks!” you both awkwardly chuckled, looking everywhere but each other’s eyes.
“Would you like to get dinner with me tonight?” You smiled and looked up at eddie. “Can’t, I have to take care of my younger-!” You fidgeted with the bat in your hands.
“He had two sister’s! The other one can look after them!” You peaked over Eddie's shoulder and looked over at Nancy who rolled her eyes and motioned you to go with eddie. “Uh, actually forget that, I am free!” He smiles at you. “How does y/f/f sound?” you gasped at him. “That’s my favorite food!” you both smiled and walked over to eddie’s van.
The others came running over to his van and grabbed their bags for the sleepover they had planned to host at your house. “Don’t try anything with her, eddie!” Mike pointed to the long haired man, “Trust me! I think I know what happens if I do.” he motioned to the bat in your hands.
Later that night
Karen sighed as she walked up the stairs to the four wheeler childrens bedrooms, she was tired from Ted's family party. She had gone to wish Mike and his friends goodnight but they had already passed out. It seemed only you and Holly were the only ones in the house awake.
Nancy and Robin were also passed out cold, on Nancy's carpeted floor. “Nancy, we’re back-!” Karen sighed at the sight and shut Nancy's bedroom door. Karen sighed as walked over to your door and knocked, she could hear rustling before she opened the door to a tired you. You had on a fluffy robe, steve had gifted you one year for Christmas
“We’re back and I'm just coming to say goodnight to you! Sweet dreams y/n!” she smiled and shut your door and made her way to the finally wheeler child to say goodnight too.
“Goodnight holly, want me to read you a story?” Karen squatted to Holly's height. “No thank you.” Karen looked at her youngest surprised. “Oh, okay then did you have a good time with your sissy?” Holly went quiet for a second. “Mmhm, y/n should try baseball! Oh and  Eddie is good at telling stories too!” Karen looked at Holly confused. “Who’s eddie?” “Y/n’s boyfriend..” she sleepily replied. “Oh ok, goodnight sweetie.” She walked out of Holly's room and made her way to her own room and got ready for bed.
The next morning
You smiled as you looked over and saw Eddie's denim vest on the edge of your bed frame. You giggled to yourself and got up and walked into the hall bathroom. You had gotten ready for the day and rushed downstairs as you smelled your mom’s chocolate chip pancakes.
“Out my way, dork!” you told mike as you pushed past him and right to the cabinet where you grabbed a plate. “I have a question about last night..” you, nancy, robin, and the others stared at each other. “And?” Mike asked. “Who’s eddie?” your eyes went wide, so did nancy’s as well. You looked over at the quiet six year old, who had your dad help cut her pancakes. “HOLLY!” you groaned and stuffed your food so you mom couldn’t get you to talk.
“I just want you to be safe y/n!” you all groaned at her words. “We have to go now! Thanks for breakfast mom!” Mike and his friends quickly got up and ran to the basement. “Oh shoot, robin and i need to finish our, uh, math project!” Nancy excused herself and robin.
“Dickheads!’ you muttered. You perked up as you watched Eddie's van pull up in front of your house. You quickly got up, pancake hanging out of your mouth. You ran to your room and grabbed his denim vest and ran back outside. “You forgot something munson?” you asked him teasingly, holding up his vest. “I kinda needed an excuse to see you again!” you smiled and walked up to his car window. “I had a great time last night!” you both smiled. “When did you make it into the house?” you sighed and looked at your feet.
“Right as my mom came to say goodnight, I had barely crawled into my window.” you both chuckled. “Would you like to go out with me again?” you smiled at him. “I’m free tonight at 7, i just need to climb down the trellis outside.” he looked at you with wide eyes. “Y/n!” you sighed as you heard your mom calling for you. “I’ll talk to you on the walkie later alright?” you smiled and nodded at him. “Bye eddie!” you waved at him as he drove away before walking back over towards your mom, who watched the whole interaction from the house’s doorstep.
“Yes?” you sighed, waiting to be yelled at for going out with eddie “the freak” munson.
“Tonight at 7, use the door like a normal human!” she smiled at you.

January 1987
It was nearly nine o'clock on a cold, January night and her mother had asked her to pick up her brother Mike from The Hellfire Club.
She loved her family but she was the middle child so she kinda got forgotten sometimes not that her parents did it intentionally, well at least her mother didn't.
Her dad wasn't really interested in any of his kids so she didn't take it to heart. It's just with Nancy being the oldest and the golden child, Mike being the only boy and Holly the baby it didn't leave much room for her.
So she forged her own path and became more and more independent as time went on, she loved her siblings and they loved her but they didn't understand her feelings.
Sighing she heads into the auditorium where Hellfire Club was held and heard the campaign was still ongoing.
Mike groans as she comes into view.
"Aw come on y/n five minutes". Dustin beams at her and she ruffles his hair. Lucas and Will are still engaged in the game.
"Wheeler who is this?" She startles as a deep voice barks out and she turns to the head of the table where Eddie Munson sits.
Her brother idolises him and even though Eddie and the older members of Hellfire have graduated now they still attend Hellfire meetings and Eddie is still the Dungeon Master.
Her stomach fills with butterflies and she smiles sweetly, he's really cute. His curly brown hair and brown eyes make her melt and those dimples and tats? He's very sexy.
"Hi, I didn't mean to interrupt. I'm y/n". Mike frowns.
"This is my sister, I'm sorry she doesn't know that no one interrupts the campaign". Mike replies and introduces her to Eddie.
Eddie takes her hand and kisses it tenderly.
"Well hello, fair maiden, I'm Eddie. I didn't know that Wheeler had a third sister". She shrugs.
"Don't worry people don't really notice me anyway". He raises an eyebrow.
"Princess, I find that very hard to believe. Wheeler, he snaps why have you never introduced us?". Mike stammers for a second before scowling.
"What is it with guys wanting to date my sisters, Steve, Jonathan for Nancy and now you with y/n!".
Tumblr media
Eddie frowns at Mike and turns back to y/n who he's kicking himself for not noticing. She's beautiful and he's instantly smitten with her and her pretty eyes and kind smile.
The game is finishing up anyway so he suggests for her to wait for a few moments and doesn't want to miss his chance to ask her out.
He just hopes she says yes.
"So uh princess what are you doing after dropping the kids off?". Her eyes light up and she moves closer to him batting those pretty eyes at him.
Oh, sweetheart. You already have me falling hook, line and sinker for you he thinks dreamily.
"Well, the boys are having a sleepover, boys' night in the basement. So I was just planning to watch a movie".
Mike is gaping between them as Dustin, Lucas and Will watch him trying to hide their laughter.
"Mind if I join you, sweetheart?". She beams at him and he swears his heart skips a beat.
"You mean like a date?". She asks him softly there's a hopefulness to her tone and he nods trying to keep his cool.
"Yeah, like a date". Still beaming she answers his question.
"I'd love that Eddie, Mike, get your ass in gear I've got a date tonight". Mike looks horrified but one look from him and y/n silences him.
They head out into the cold January night with Dustin, Lucas and Will teasing Mike relentlessly.
Y/n shivers and he immediately takes off his jacket and places it around her shoulders marvelling at how fucking gorgeous she looks in his jacket.
He can't believe his luck that she wants to go on this date and spends the ride in anticipation of what will happen.
Once the boys are at the Wheeler's house and in the basement she puts on a movie for them to watch.
It's Friday the 13th and he finds out that she loves horror movies, though he does offer his services for her to cuddle into if she ever got a bit freaked out.
Turns out they don't watch much of the movie at all, the tension between them is palpable and when they kiss he's hooked, teasing little moans from her mouth that drive him wild
He could imagine kissing her forever, even when he was old and grey. He had never felt like this before for any girl, his cynical heart refusing to believe in love and romance and all that soppy shit.
Truthfully Eddie always thought love, at first sight, was a load of shit but now he was starting to believe in it.
With y/n he fell hard for her and kept on falling.
"Ugh gross!". They break apart and Mike has come upstairs for some snacks and mutters under his breath as Dustin grins.
"They are going to be kissing all the time now you know". Mike covers his ears and y/n bursts into laughter when Mike rushes down to the basement.
"Hey, where are my kisses?". She pouts at him and he smiles stroking her cheek and capturing her lips with his.

I understand if this isn’t something your interested in but if you are and would write it that would be awesome!! Could you do a curvy fem wheeler reader x Eddie Munson one? The reader is Mike and Nancy’s older sister that left for college as soon as she was accepted. She’s a lot like Mike, she’s into dnd, the same type of music, nerdy comics and doesn’t fit in their little cookie cutter family. She’s got that hippie vintage vibe going on and actually left to go to art school. Most people forget they have an older sister because she’s just so much different than Nancy and their parents but to Mike she hangs the moon and is the coolest person ever. She’s the one person he can call for any kind of advice and is constantly telling the hellfire guys how cool she is. Well when she comes home for break and the boys need a sub they waste no time asking her, I mean she did teach them everything they know. Mike is so excited she’s playing and can’t wait to tell Eddie. Of course Eddie is excited to meet the older wheeler kid that is “Oh so amazing”. Let’s just say she’s everything he expected and then some, from her ripped up mom jeans to her tie dyed crop top, the long wild curly hair, tattoos and a nose piercing she’s nothing like her sister. He thinks he’s died and went to heaven.
(I know it’s a bit lengthy but I love the idea of Mike having a older sibling he looks up too and is into the same things he is, I feel like he doesn’t really have someone older to look up too like the other kids do.)
Eddie Munson x Wheeler!reader
Warnings: reader is a female, swearing, Mike looks up to reader, flirting (kinda), reader calls eddie pretty as a teasing way
Summary: Request above
Tumblr media
Looking for a sub for Eddie's DnD was harder than Dustin and Mike thought, they had asked everyone they knew. No one wanted to hang out with the freaks of Hawkins. Especally, Eddie "the freak" Munson. They continued to ask but still no luck. They called it quites and went home.
---
You were laying on your stomach in your bed, flipping through one of Mike's comics that you knew he was going to threaten to kill you for taking. As the eldest Wheeler sibling, you took all of the disappointment from Mom and Dad, which left Mike and Nancy looking like angels.
You twirled your curled hair around your finger as you flipped another page. Your eyes scanned the words when a slam from the front door came. You weren't expecting your parents back until late tonight and school didn't end for a bit longer.
"Oh my God I hate this so much!" A young boy's voice yelled.
You smiled to yourself before hollering, "Maybe don't slam the front door."
You hear Mike gasp and hollered out a few "Hellos". You could not stop laughing at him. You hadn't seen him since you left for art school. You wanted to have an art studio by the age of twenty. You graduated at seventeen and left before you turned 18.
You rushed down the stairs, quietly, and grabbed Mike by the back of his neck. He let out a scream and tried to tackle you to the ground.
"Chill kiddo," You laugh.
"Y/n," He breathed before looking to make sure that you were really there.
"How's my little brat been?" You open your arms.
Normally, Mike didn't give many hugs unless they were for Eleven but still. He missed you. He was a lot closer to you than Nancy. You both felt that you didn't fit into the perfect family.
"Wha-When did you get back? Why are you here? I mean I-I am happy that you're here but like, why?" Mike scrambled out.
"Chill out dude, I came back to set up a studio."
"But about moving to New York?"
"Mike, my family is here. I missed playing DnD with you and the boys. I missed y'all."
He hugged you again.
"So, I have a campaign to go to tonight and we need a sub for Lucas," Mike started, "And I was wondering if you would want to fill in."
"Mike, I would be honored." You place a hand on your heart and smile.
Mike goes to phone the boys to tell them that he had a sub.
----
"Eddie, I am telling you, she is the best DnD player that I have ever seen. She is better than all of us put together," Mike said.
"I'm sure it's not that hard to be better than you," Eddie scoffed.
"He isn't lying, she is a badass." Dustin chipped in.
The boys nodded in agreement.
"She better be better than what you say she is, Wheeler."
Eddie didn't believe that anyone could be better than him. Mike was smug at the challenge that Eddie had given him. He knew that not only were you very good, but you also knew how to win.
"Oh I promise words don't do her justice."
----
Pulling up to the school, you step out of the car. Your tie die crop top was raised a bit from you stretching, your jeans hugged your hips very well. Your boots thudded against the ground before you walked inside the building.
Making your way to the DnD room, you could hear the guys yelling. You opened the door and the noise was louder.
"I'm sorry but this room is off limits to others during our game," A man with long curls yelled from his "throne".
"Y/n!" The boys yelled.
You nodded to them.
"Well, well, if it isn't the famous Wheeler sister?" The man said.
"Listen here, dude, I ain't got time for this so if you don't mind I would like to get to the game." You smirk at his faulter.
"Fiesty, Wheeler."
"Get to it," You smile.
You move to sit down but the man grabs your wrist gently.
"What level are you?"
"Level tweleve warlock," You smirk at the jaw clench he gives.
"What's wrong pretty? A girl can't be higher than you," You tease.
"Whatever, my name is Eddie."
---
The game starts but Eddie is not playing like he normally does. The boys notice that his attention is on your exposed cleavage and tattoos. He notices the nose piercing and the bird tattoo on your shoulder.
Eddie sends you down a dark cave and you clear out the enemies. Eddie is amazed and angry. He worked hard on this game. Normally, he goes home victory but now you were winning at every turn.
"Y/n what is your move?" Eddie asks.
"Go for the roll of eight," Mike shouts.
"Yeah, go with the eight." Dustin and the boys yell.
You roll and land an eight. The guys jump out of their seats and shout. The room is full of yells of victory. They finally beat their Dungon Master.
"Yes, Y/n you are the best," Mike yelled before giving you a hug.
You wrap your arms around him and cry out in victory. Eddie looks surprised.
"What's wrong Pretty?''
A jaw clench.
"Oh come on Pretty, try a little bit harder next time."
He steps closer to you, almost touching you.
He breathes, " You don't know how hard I can go."
"Maybe I want to," You whisper into the shell of his ear.
Eddie smirks.
"How are you so good at DnD?"
"Well, Pretty, I taught Mike and the boys everything they know."
"Well you didn't teach them very good," He laughs.
"I said I taught them everything they know, not everything I know."
You offer rides to the boys and wink at Eddie when you close the door.
"Jesus," Eddie whispers into the air.

EIGHTEEN - E.M
Tumblr media
Warnings: swear words, implications of sex, implications of drugs, mentions of having children, commitment
Pairing: Eddie Munson x Fem!reader
Summary: Life with Eddie Munson as the twin sister of Nancy Wheeler, best friend of Chrissy Cunningham, colleagues to Robin Buckley and Steve Harrington and her role as the cheerleading freak.
Wordcount: 2.5k
Tumblr media
Nobody ever saw you, Y/N Wheeler ever falling for someone like Eddie Munson
He was this freak who everyone seemed to fear and you were the perfect girl, following all the rules.
You were on the cheerleading team and despite your dislike for most of them, you were friends with one.
Chrissy Cunningham.
Despite her dating the captain of the basketball team and being this scary mean girl to everyone else, they were all wrong.
All she wanted was to live a peaceful life, she didn't even like cheerleading, her mum made her do it.
You didn't like cheerleading all that much either but you weren't great at playing any instruments so you wanted to help out by being a cheerleader.
You're also good friends with Robin - that's why you joined cheerleading, because she was in band - and when you weren't there you worked at the film store with her and Steve.
Being part of the Wheeler family was tough because of the high expectations from your parents and the way people always looked at your family but the trauma was the hardest.
Since you were close with your younger brother, you had gone through the whole upside down ordeal with him and the others.
Some nights you'd wake up in a cold sweat, eyes wide as you looked around, reaching for one of the many guns you opened - this one happened to be hidden under your floorboard.
You liked your twin sister and everything but you'd always clashed with ideas but despite all that you did care for her.
The first time you noticed Eddie Munson was in the talent show when your best friend Chrissy had pointed out the band.
She loved the heavy metal music that he was playing despite her parents' more neutral taste and they became slight friends. She never did fit in with the buzzed hair cut style of Eddie Munson and in high school the two stopped talking.
The freak and the cheerleader would never work out.
Then you remembered him as the boy who didn't graduate in 1984.
And then 1985.
So at that point you were in the same year as him despite him being a fully grown twenty year old man and you just an eighteen year old with no clue what you wanted to do in life.
And God did you think he was hot.
Like come on, the guy was ultra sexy to you and your best friend had realised this. Maybe it was the bad boy persona that drew you in but you were instantly attracted to him.
Sure, he had seen you around and thought you were cute in your preppy skirts and flower white shirts that your friends joked made you look like a hippie but he never paid much attention to you.
It was only when Mike joined that he began to notice you more. You would pick your brother and his friends up from the D&D club, making small talk with the boys as they'd pack up.
You knocked on the door to the room, hearing a loud exclamation of annoyance as you opened the door.
The boys were huddled around a table and they looked up at you as you stood there, Eddie's eyes landing on yours.
"I'm here to pick up Mike, I am on time right?" You second guessed yourself before checking your watch and nodding, "It's nine o'clock now,"
"We're nearly finished Y/N, God, just wait a second," Mike said.
You sighed, leaning against the wall as the finished. When they were done, you ushered your brother out but not before taking one last look at Eddie.
And for a second Eddie would think that maybe you were cooler than he thought you would be.
You weren't the preppy popular girl he had expected. You like Black Sabbath and had a dark sense of humour that matched perfectly with his.
So yeah, maybe after that you caught his eye a lot more than before.
He would never admit that you were the reason he would sneak into the back of the basketball games - because if anyone saw him there it would ruin his reputation - just because he wanted to see you.
He would smile at you in the halls and occasionally help you if your locker got jammed - which it often did - and you assumed it was just because he was friends with your brother.
It was around October of 1985, 3 months after the starcourt accident when you bumped into Eddie.
You had been handing out flyers for the recent charity concert when some guy from the basketball team had knocked them out of your hands.
They weren't fond of you and despite being on the cheerleading squad and having guys gawk at you in your short dress you were still on the bottom of the proverbial totem pole.
He had rushed over, helping you pick them up off of the ground as he cured the basketball players to hell.
When he turned back to you your face was burning up, completely embarrassed that he had to help you.
Your face had gone bright red as you scrambled on the floor for the paper. He had been so helpful and you couldn't help but blush as your fingers skimmed against his as you took the papers back.
"Thanks so much Eddie, gosh, I don't know what I would have done if you wouldn't have helped out," you said, pulling the papers against your chest as another gust of wind picked up, "What can I do to thank you,"
"Don't worry sweetheart, I don't mind helping," he said, flashing that toothy grin of his at you before he walked away.
You were giddy for the rest of the day, heart pounding as you realised the guy that you found to be the new Adonis had noticed you.
And he was such a gentleman, nothing like they had said at school about him being a freak.
You may not have approved of him selling drugs - since you came from a very conservative background - but you knew he seemed so nice and wouldn't force anything on you.
So you made him cupcakes, driving all the way to the trailer park just to drop them off to him.
You knocked on the door, smiling as Wayne Munson opened it, "Hi, I'm a friend of Eddie's, I brought some stuff round for him," you said with a smile on your face.
The man smiled before turning around, "There's someone at the door for ya Ed," he called out and the boy walked by, a smile on his face as he saw you.
You held the tupperwere pot out to him and he smiled as he looked inside to see a row of cookies.
"You didn't have to sweetheart," he said and you blushed slightly at the nickname.
"Just wanted to thank you, nobody else would have stopped for me and I'd have been running around like a crazy person for hours," you chuckled.
You drove home all giddy, happy that his uncle had liked you and unsure how to feel about the rest of it.
Your sister had seen the huge smile on your face that night, not mentioning that she knew about your secret rendezvous with Eddie Munson.
You saw each other the next day at school and he thanked you for the cupcakes, bragging about how good they were.
From then on it became a tradition for you to bring sweet treats to every single one of Eddie's campaigns. He loved them, thanking you every time with varying cute nicknames that would make you blush as you walked out.
Mike would cringe, questioning as to when you and Eddie had become so close.
The boy would just smile and laugh it off, the image of you walking away in that shirt little cheerleader's dress still replaying in his mind.
Your brother didn't like it when Eddie would ask about you just because you were his sweet older sister who never got into trouble. You didn't drink, you didn't smoke and he thought it seemed out of character.
Eddie would find the chance to bring you up all the time, joking about how you should join the campaign or asking when you'd pick him up.
The people you hang out with didn't like it either. They would laugh whenever Eddie would smile at you and every time he'd talk to you they would make jokes about him, making fun of his appearance or calling him a devil worshiper.
You didn't believe any of that crap and knew it hurt him but he wouldn't let that show.
You also knew that he didn't like you the way that you liked him and decided that being friends was good enough for you.
There was also always the inkling that society wasn't going to accept the two of you if you ever decided to date and that was very off-putting.
So when he first asked you on a date you just crumbled, heart melting.
He had been so nervous, probably having waited ages building up the courage to ask you.
"So I was thinking, maybe, I could take you out to dinner tomorrow night, to celebrate your win," he said, referencing to the
He wasn't as cool about it as you thought and the nervous tone to his voice made you chuckle. You always did find him adorable.
"Sure, it's a date," you said, a grin on your face as you walked away, knowing his eyes were trained on the short cheerleading dress.
You went home and told your sister straight away, unable to keep the date a secret.
She said that she always knew that he had feelings for you and that she could see it a mile away.
You instantly planned an outfit, knowing that the next day you were going to be going to a cute local restaurant with Eddie.
You knew he wasn't going to be able to afford keeping up that lifestyle of fancy restaurants but you liked the grand gesture (and didn't mind at all that he didn't come from as much wealth as you did)
The next day you were buzzing, your mum asking what was so important.
You were hesitant to tell her but eventually you told her you had a date that night, not disclosing who it was with.
Your mum was a cheerleader and your dad was on the football team so you knew they wouldn't approve of you not choosing some douche like Jason and instead choosing the local freak.
That night you had waited at the end of your street, not wanting your parents to see him.
He had picked you up, holding you a bouquet of slightly crumpled flowers but it was the sentiment that counted.
You both laughed the whole night away, having the time of your lives and he asked you to be his girlfriend straight away.
The next few months were amazing with Eddie.
He was the most caring partner you could have ever asked for. He would invite you round for pizza, study with you (even if it would end with the two of you naked) and you'd call most nights.
He had been your first everything - apart from kiss, your first kiss had been Patrick Mahoney in fourth grade - and you wouldn't have asked for anything else.
You had never expected Eddie to be into cuddling but the first time that he held you in his arms as you lay on the sofa watching some awful movie he never wanted to leave your warm embrace.
Robin and Steve constantly made fun of the two of you when you'd come into the video store together to get a film and he'd have his arm wrapped securely around your shoulders.
The hardest part was telling your parents.
When they began to wonder who this boy you were going on a date with, you decided to tell them the truth.
Your mother wasn't too bothered, she didn't mind him but understood that he made you happier than ever before.
Your father was furious. He wanted you to be with someone who could provide for you and make sure that you had the life that you deserved and he didn't think that was with Eddie.
So when you invited him round for dinner with your parents it was awkward to say the least.
He already knew Mike and Nancy so that was fine and he got on with Holly so well that you were considering having a baby with him on the spot.
The instant that he met her they just bonded, the six year old asking questions about his clothes and he'd answer to the best of his ability, crouching down to her height as she giggled at some stupid joke that she had made.
You knew he fit into the family instantly.
Your dad was the hardest hurdle to overcome as he kept asking Eddie questions and when Mike accidentally blurted out the idea that Eddie had taken your virginity, he was fuming.
But Eddie had stood his ground, earning the respect of your father and the two became close over their love for American football - even though you were sure Eddie had never seen it before you knew his uncle was a fan.
He fit in well with your best friend Robin and although Steve had some animosity with him, he warmed up to him eventually with their mutual love of certain films.
Then your friends found out. Apparently someone had bought from Reefer Rick and he'd spilt the beans.
So the next day at school you walked in and when your friends ushered you over the first thing they asked was if you'd been fucking Eddie.
And you just wanted to cry because it was a cold January day and yeah, you had spent time with him last night but there was no reason for them to know about it.
They weren't your friends anyway, they were just people you were associated with. You had never fit in and the only person that ever made an effort to talk to you was Chrissy who obviously knew about you and Eddie.
She stuck up for you but the rest didn't buy it, instantly jumping on the bandwagon that you would associate with what Jason called 'a devil worshiper'
But you managed to brush it off until you had to go to Eddie's that night for pizza and a movie and you just crumbled.
You sobbed in his arms as you explained everything that had happened that day and he had comforted you, promising that they didn't know what they were talking about.
As soon as you fell in his arms you collapsed, "A-and they called you a freak and, God, they, they hate me Ed," you sobbed, holding onto his hellfire club shirt as you cried.
He comforted you, hand on your back as he shooshed you and held you until you calmed down.
"It doesn't matter what rhey think of you okay, I know you're amazing and your family love you and that's all that matters," he explained, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
You'd had a tough day after waking up from a nightmare that you couldn't explain to Billy and then having to he bullied about the people you chose to love.
To everyone else in school he had this hard exterior but to you he was so affectionate. Sure, you didn't advertise your relationship in school but he would go out of his way to talk to you. He would stand by your locker and chat or cheer you on whenever you needed it and you would bring him your traditional sweet treats to the D&D campaigns.
On the note of sweet treats, one thing you never expected Eddie to be able to do is cook. He couldn't bake for the life of him but he made simple meals take the best.
One time he made you pasta and you could have just died there. His ego was overly inflated after that and he was sure he was going to be the best chef in the world.
Eddie would go out of his way to make sure you had everything you wanted. He wasn't into PDA but if he even saw one of the boys - or the girls - look at you the wrong way he wouldn't hesitate to kiss you up against the lockers like some horny frat boy.
He wants to be protective over you and even though he will, he'd rather run away with you then face whatever the problem was. He didn't like conflict and would rather cower with you in his arms.
It was a trait that you did admire. He was loyal and sure of what he wanted and sure, he got scared sometimes but everyone does.
He was so sure of his relationship with you that he got the two of you matching silver rings like promise rings that signified the bond between you and to say that you didn't cry at all when he gave it to you would be a lie.
By the time of season 4 the two of you had been in a healthy relationship for around five months.
He sat through the pep rally that morning reluctantly seeing as it was mandatory. He really just wanted to see you. He supported everything that you did, just not the people that you did it with.
He didn't come to the game and you didn't expect him to, although you had promised him that the next night you'd come over in the uniform that he loved so much.
You brought him snacks before his campaign and he explained that he was dealing that night so you reluctantly let him go before leaving for your game.
But not before a good luck kiss against the wall as he pinned you in, one hand on the wall beside your head and the on your waist.
It took Mike pulling you two apart for you to finally get to the cheerleading game.
They won and the next morning you woke up to calls from Dustin who said that it was 'an emergency'
That was when your whole life changed, and definitely not for the better.

A/N - so I was thinking about making this into a series that starts with season 4 so this is sort of a prequel. Would anyone read that?

Eddie’s Trailer
Tumblr media
A few days had past since Eddie had admitted his feelings to Stephanie. She was nervous because things had slightly changed since that day. She noticed Eddie became progressively touchy throughout the days following his confession. His libido had been rapidly increasing. He was always an extremely horny guy but Stephanie had never seen this side of him.
Eddie looked over to her as she was focused on the horror film displayed on his TV. His leather clad arm brushed up against her bare skin. It sent shivers down her back. Stephanie subtly moved towards the farther end of the couch. He turned his head away looking at the television. Eddie let out an aspirated sigh, slightly scratching the back of his head. The movie had came to and end as the credits rolled in. Stephanie got up from the couch and headed to the kitchen, grabbing a beer out of the fridge.
“Hey, can you grab me one too?” Eddie asked.
Stephanie reached back into the fridge pulling out another bottle. She shut the fridge as she walked towards the couch, placing the beer into Eddie’s lap.
“Thank you, sweetheart.” Eddie’s deep growl in his voice escorted the butterflies back into her stomach. “Sweetheart”. His pet name for her. Her heart was palpitating at the sound of the words that left his rouge soft lips. Eddie had been taking all the action so far. Stephanie felt a lump grow in her throat as he raised his arms up to stretch. The cotton t-shirt rose up slightly to reveal the lowest part of his torso. A small line of hair led down to his groin. Eddie turned his head noticing Stephanie staring. She could start to drool if she looked any longer.
“Princess, my eyes are up here.”
“Princess”. Every nickname he addressed her as made the wetness between her plush panties turn into a pool for him. She couldn’t handle it anymore. Stephanie moved from the position she was sitting in, lifting her leg. She wrapped it around his lap, setting the other leg on the opposite side. She set hands upon his leather covered shoulders. She began to straddle his lap. Eddie’s hands gripped firmly around her waist. She wiggled her his around his lap as she grew more aroused. Eddie slide his metal ring veiled hand down her shorts, as well as her panties. He slide his hand across her vagina. He let out a soft chuckle looking into her eyes.
“Is my girl soaking right through her little pink panties?” He teased her.
“Eddie please, I need you.”
“Someone’s greedy, but you know we can’t .” Eddie hadn’t been with anyone before. He had only kissed one other person, Chrissy Cunningham in the 5th grade. He didn’t want his lack of experience to ruin Stephanie’s first time.
“Eddie I’m telling you right now, I need you inside of me. You don’t know how much I’ve wanted this.” She was right. He didn’t know how many nights she spent thinking about this moment. Melting in his hands as he controlled her. Screaming out his name as rammed into her.
With his hand on her waist her lifted her off of his lap, placing her next to him. Stephanie pouted pushing out her bottom lip and fluttering her eyelashes slowing to convince him.
“Steph, babe we can’t, you know what I already told you about. Not until I know we’re both ready.”
“Baby, I am ready,” she said grasping onto his bicep. “I need you so badly.”
“Right princess, but I’m not ready.”. That’s when it hit her. Eddie Munson was a virgin. Untouched by anyone other than himself. Stephanie rubbed her hand up and down his face finally lifting his chin up to make him look into her amber eyes. He looked at her embarrassed. Afraid she had figured out his secret.
“Eddie, are you… a virgin?”. He let out a breathy laugh then sighing. His eyes began to close slightly looking the other way. Stephanie pushed his head to face her once again.
“Come on, just tell me I won’t judge.”
“It’s not like I haven’t wanted to Wheeler, but I mean look at me.”. For someone who was constantly looked at as a “freak” or “outcast”, Eddie was extremely gentle with the people he cared about.
“Oh, Eddie why didn’t you just tell me! I didn’t mean to force myself on you.” Stephanie ran her hands through his soft brown curls. A smile rose upon his cheeks as they turned a flush red.
“I actually quite enjoyed it, I just didn’t want it to go all the way.” He grabbed her hand slowing rubbing his thumb across her knuckles.
“Well, I’m always ready when you are.” She winked at him in a sultry manner. His face turned bright beet red.
“Stephanie Wheeler, you are one nasty woman.”
“Only for you.”

This shouldn’t hurt as much as it does.
Things could’ve ended far worse than they actually did. Hell, most of the couples in their school tended to make breakups as dramatic as possible, normally painting one half of the relationship as some kind if irredeemable monster, if not to paint them as this sympathetic martyr, than just to save face that it actually hurt.
In her case, Eddie Munson told her they just weren’t a good match and he wanted to be friends again instead. That was as healthy as they could possibly get. And in the best case scenario, too, she’d still be able to have him be a part of her life. She didn’t think she could stand the thought of seeing him in the halls and not being able to acknowledge him.
She’d fallen hard and fast for Eddie, embarrassingly so.
Given the heavy duty of designated driver for the little hooligans she’d somehow decided to adopt with Steve Harrington, she’d gotten accustomed to waiting in the high school parking lot, her nose pressed into the creases of her current novel while she waited for them to finish their important campaigns, all procured from the brilliant mind of Eddie Munson.
She’d known him before then, too, but only in passing. He’d often make a big spectacle of himself in the cafeteria just to bug the other students, and he held the record as super senior. But she’d never even talked to him until she saw him walk the boys out after a seemingly successful campaign, his arms wrapped tightly around Dustin and Lucas’ shoulders as he praised them.
He’d acknowledged her when he got to her car.
“My fair maiden,” he’d said, “I apologize for the delay.”
She’d blubbered out some kind of half-hearted response, good enough to make him laugh, and that made her heart go a million miles a minute.
It didn’t take long before she’d gotten the courage to ask him out, even if it was just for coffee. He was surprised, but he agreed.
It had been nice, he even drove her home after. She probably should’ve seen the signs then because he didn’t suggest a second meet up, she had instead. And he’d agreed.
It was about a month before they made themselves official, in Hawkins High language, practically married. But it really just meant she got to hold his hand between classes and get quick kisses goodbye when it was time to separate, somehow always on her cheek than her lips.
She’d thought their dates were fun; it was a lot of pressure since he always left it up to her, never having any other idea than lounging about her home and just watching TV. But she was the one who thought of renting movies for horror marathons, figuring it was up his alley. She thought of bowling and drive-in theaters and picnicking near the quarry for its desolate atmosphere, another thing she figured was right up his alley.
But things came to an underwhelming end when Eddie approached her at her locker on some random Thursday to tell her things just weren’t working out and he wanted to stay as friends. Despite how much even that had hurt, she agreed. She didn’t want to make him do anything he regretted.
She could still be friends with him, happily so. That meant she could still sit with him at lunch, hear his outlandish tales, and be able to admire him from afar, even if she was no longer able to touch him and hold his hand.
“Be honest,” she’d heard Gareth say as she approached with her tray, “what really happened? You know, most guys woulda killed to be able to take her out, the fact she stuck around for months is surprising enough.”
Eddie shrugs, chewing absentmindedly on a pretzel he’d brought. She would pack him lunches when they were together since he always forgot and resorted to eating prepackaged things instead. Since they broke up, it seemed like old habits really did die hard.
“To tell you the truth,” he starts rather dramatically, “no substance. Pretty face, nice voice, real sweet, but God, boring as all hell.” He runs a hand down his face. The other boys seemed surprised. Dustin and Mike share a look, but say nothing, clearly waiting to hear more. Because there was no way it could be just that. There had to be more. They knew her better than anyone, had been through so much with her. What could be the real reason Eddie broke things off?
“And?” Dustin coaxes.
“And what?”
“Dude, seriously?” Mike scoffs. “She wasn’t interesting enough for you?”
Eddie shakes his head. “Look, she’s a great gal. And I know you guys are super close, which is awesome, but we just weren’t the best match. And I felt like shit that she was putting in all of the effort when I wasn’t interested. Now she’s free to...I dunno...find someone boring, too.” He sniggers, elbowing Jeff beside him trying to get him to laugh, too, but he could see how upset Dustin and Mike were.
Luckily, for her sake, they didn’t notice her standing there, having overheard everything. Spinning right back around, she’d ditched her tray onto one of the trash bins before leaving the cafeteria completely before there was a chance anyone could see her tears.
God, it shouldn’t hurt as much as it does, she thinks again. He was more than welcome to have his own opinion, but why did it have to be something like that?
He was right, she wasn’t exactly Chrissy Cunningham or Heather Holloway, being this huge spectacle that made every new day more exciting than the last. All things considered, sometimes too much excitement frightened her. Having risked her life at least once a year for nearly four years now made her yearn for the more simple things. It was stupid of her to think Eddie would want the same. Eddie Munson, who liked to make scenes in the cafeteria and rock out in a bar with his band. He didn’t crave the simplicity of life like she did.
She didn’t go back into that cafeteria for the remaining of the lunch period. In fact, she’d decided to skip the rest of the day completely, knowing she shared three periods with Eddie and right now she really didn’t want to see him. She just wanted to get away, leave herself to her own thoughts to try to calm down.
Well, that really only lasted for ten minutes because she found herself pulling into the small parking lot into Family Video. She spots Steve’s car at the far end and knows he’s inside. It was childish of her to go running and crying to Steve Harrington, who she knew would take her side and say all the cruel things about Eddie that she couldn’t bring herself to because she really just needed someone on her side right now. Aside from Dustin and Mike, of course. She wouldn’t forget how they jumped to her defense.
The little bell rings at the top of the door as she walks in, startling Steve into consciousness, who seemed to be snoozing on the edge of the counter, drool pooled across his forearm. He wipes feverishly at his face and blinks unfocused in her direction, trying to situate himself quickly into his customer service face.
“Welcome to Fam-Jesus, you scared me,” he cuts himself off when he at last realizes it’s her. Confused, he turns to glance at the clock hung up on the wall. “Don’t tell me school’s out already? You beat Robin here.”
“No, I’m playing hooky,” she shakes her head, unsteadily moving towards the counter.
“What? You? I’m sorry, am I still dreaming?” Steve asks dramatically. “Since when do you, of all people, ever skip class? I’d sooner believe Nancy doing it than you.”
“Just...needed a break s’all,” she says with a shrug, looking around. “Keith not here?”
“Nah, he’s off today. Something about a new graphic novel he’s been dying to get. Says he’d have to wait overnight just to get one of the first editions. I don’t know, I don’t really listen to him unless he’s handing over my check,” Steve said. She leans up against the counter, trying to act casual. “Everything okay?”
“Yeah, why wouldn’t things be okay?”
“Well, for one, having to clarify that things are supposed to be okay when asked if everything’s okay is a pretty big indicator that things aren’t, in fact, okay.” Steve says with a laugh. “So everything’s not okay, then?”
“Everything’s okay,” she lies. “I just...can I ask you something?”
“Yeah?”
She isn’t sure how to come out and say it without sounding stupid. Better, she can’t figure out a way to come out and say it without sounding completely pathetic. But this was Steve, he was the king of asking her embarrassing things. He even called her once at three in the morning to ask how long you were supposed to leave cookies in the oven for. The follow up question was how to get the burnt smell out before his mom came home.
“Am I boring?”
Steve tilts his head. “Huh?”
“Am I boring, Steve? Am I boring?”
“No? Who gave you that idea?” Steve snorts, like he thinks it was a foolish thing to ask. “Whoever it is clearly hasn’t seen you handle a crowbar.” He was referencing when she’d nabbed a crowbar from the junkyard lot to fend off the demodogs with him, all to protect the little ones in the bus. She doesn’t want to remember that right now, not when it makes her feel cold inside.
“Nobody, I just...I dunno, I just think that maybe I’m not as exciting as, like...you o-or Rob or Nancy or, hell, even Jonathan.”
“Nonsense, you’re a badass! True story, you know I wouldn’t say that about just any...” Steve trails off, finally really looking at her. “Hey...hey, why are you really askin’ me that? Something happen? Someone say something to you?”
“No, Steve, I was just asking.”
“You’re lying,” he accuses. “Who was it, was it Byers? Nancy? Not Robin...”
“No! No, Steve, they didn’t say anything, please just drop it. I shouldn’t have asked.”
Steve’s face eventually relaxes, having realized he knew exactly who she was talking about.
“Munson.”
She shakes her head. “Stop it, Steve.”
“What did he say? I thought he just wanted to be friends, where’s all this coming from?” he asked. There were too many questions being thrown at her. She doesn’t want to cry, especially not in front of him, but as soon as she feels her cheek dampen that was it. Soon she was burying her face in her hands and trying to stop the little whimpers from coming out.
She doesn’t notice Steve leap easily over the counter. He pulls her close, shushing her quietly.
“Hey, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you upset,” he says. She sniffles, wrapping her arms around him. He’s petting her hair, kissing the crown of her head, trying his damndest to get her to calm down and talk to him. He was the perfect person to come to, she now realizes. Her subconscious knew Steve was the answer.
When she finally stopped crying, he at last let her go, giving her some space.
She rubs the tears from her eyes and wipes the tears on her jeans.
“Want me to kill him?” he asks jokingly. She laughs. He smiles again. “What happened? Can you tell me now?”
She told him what Eddie had said, the real reason he’d broken up with her and how she ran from the cafeteria and came here. Steve was reasonably upset, but he didn’t want to make it all about pounding Eddie into a pulp, he knew she needed her friend right now and he was prepared to be just that.
“Hey, screw him,” Steve scoffs, throwing an arm over her shoulders and pulling her back into his chest. “You’re far from boring, believe me, and honestly if you ask me you could do so much better than Eddie Munson. The guy picks his nose. I saw him once. It was gnarly.”
She’s laughing again, playfully hitting him.
“Thank you, Steve,” she says, “I’m sorry to dump all this on you, I just needed someone to talk to, you know?”
“Well, you came to the right guy. I can’t tell you it gets much better from public humiliation, but I can tell you that you find much better shit to focus on. Like this obviously stellar job. Robin. My new stereo I saved up for. And...well, you.” He playfully flicks her nose. She wrinkles her nose and swats his hand away. “Eddie doesn’t know what he’s talkin’ about. But I know he’s gonna kick himself in the ass when he realizes he lost a girl like you.”
“Yeah, you’re just saying that ‘cause you’re my friend.”
“Not true, I also wanna bug you for your famous cookies.” Steve winks.
“I can bring them to you tonight, then.” she said, patting his arm. “I should get going. Um...you clearly are very busy and I don’t wanna keep you from doing your job.”
“I know, such a bad influence. The gateway rebellion was skipping class. Now it’s job defiance,” Steve chuckles, rubbing the back of his neck. “Hey, um...if you want, when you come by tonight, maybe you could stick around? Was gonna rifle through the back, borrow some flicks to waste my evening away. Free to join me if you want? Robin flaked out on me, says she’s doing some band practice with Vicky. Didn’t ask for details.”
She thinks about it and smiles. “Sounds like fun. Girls’ night.”
“Invitation rescinded!” Steve shouts, turning away.
“No, I’m kidding, I’m kidding, stop!” she protests, giggling. “I’ll bring cookies and pizza, Steve. I’ll be there.”
“Alright, then,” Steve said. “Um...hey, don’t worry about Eddie, alright? He’s just being a dick. And honestly, apart from his relationship with the rugrats, he’s still gonna be a dick. He missed out on a girl like you. Clearly he’s a martian.”
“Doesn’t mean much when I’m from Hawkins. But thank you, Steve. I’ll see you tonight,” she says, squeezing his hand and finally leaving the store back to her car. She left feeling much lighter than she had going in. He was right. Forget Eddie. If he thought she was so boring he clearly didn’t need her around him. She had other friends, friends like Steve.
Smiling to herself, she climbs into the driver’s seat and turns the key into the ignition, hearing the engine roar to life.
Things would be just fine.

When you wake up in the morning a little disoriented and it takes you a minute to remember where you are. You’re still laying on Eddie’s chest, one arm wrapped around his waist. One of his arms is still wrapped around your shoulders while the other one is folded up to support his head. You lift your head up to peek at the alarm clock next to his bed to find its seven twenty six. You hold in the groan that wants to make its way out of you since you know there’s no point in going back to sleep if you’d have to wake up soon anyway.
You’re slow to sit up, making sure you don’t wake the sleeping boy next to you. You’ll wake him up when you’re done getting ready if his alarm hasn’t done so already. You’re quick to grab your clothes for the day along with your toothbrush and paste once you’re out of bed. The pattering of your feet is quiet so to not wake his uncle who you remember him saying would be home. You’re as quiet as you can be as you get ready for the day.
“I was just about to wake you up.” You jump at the voice coming from the other side of the door. The man on the other side's eyes widens when you open the door. “You’re not my nephew.”
“No, I’m Y/n Eddie’s friend. I hope it’s alright I stayed the night, my dad kicked me out for a few days. I can find somewhere else to go tonight if it’s a problem though.” The last thing you wanted to do was be a burden or have anyone here feel like you’re forcing your way into their lives.
“No, that's fine you stay here as long as you need.” Honestly, Wayne’s just excited to meet a new friend of Eddie’s. It’s not often his nephew will bring new ones around and he knows it’s because it’s not often Eddie makes them. He can’t help but feel for you though for the reason you’re here.
“You want some breakfast or something? There isn’t much but there should be a box of poptarts in the cupboard.” Wayne scratches the back of his neck as he asks, not completely sure how to go about this situation.
“Oh, no I’m good. Thank you for the offer though. I’ll wake Eddie up and head out, I gotta pick up my brother and his friends.” You send a smile his way and head back into Eddie’s room, your clothes balled up in your hands. You shove them into the emptier half of your duffle bag and straighten up, hands on your hips wondering how you’re going to wake your sleeping friend up.
A bouncing on Eddie’s bed wakes him from the dream he was having of being on tour with his band. He stirs and groans not wanting to wake up and face the reality that it doesn’t seem like Corroded Coffin is going anywhere anytime soon, maybe ever.
“So is Eddie your actual name or is it short for something?” Eddie’s eyes snap open at the sound of your voice shocked to hear it before remembering the events of last night.
“It’s short for something.” He closes his eyes again, sinking back into his pillow.
“Well what’s it short for?” He just shakes his head not answering and getting poked in the cheek as a response. “Come ooon. You gotta get up anyway.”
“I’ll start listing names, you just stop me when I get the right one.” Eddie peaks an eye open to study you laying next to him arms folded up behind your head. A man could get used to waking up to a view like this.
“Edgar, Edison, Eduardo, Edward, Edwin, Edmund?”
“Edmund?” Eddie opens his eyes completely and rolls onto his side propping his head up with his hand. There’s laughter in his voice. “You really think I look like an Edmund?”
“Hmm, you’re right. You’re definitely more of an Edgar.” The look of mock shock and hurt on his face sends you into laughter. “You can tell me later but for now you gotta get up and get ready for school and I gotta go pick up all the kids.” You pat his chest and roll off the bed to slip your shoes on.
“Want me to go with you? We can take the van and have more room for them.”
“That’s a great idea but Max finally agreed to let me drive her again and I’m hoping that means I can get her to open up a little bit to me before I get everyone else. Oh, your uncles up and about by the way. I swear I didn’t mean to wake him up if I did. I can go somewhere else tonight so I won't do it again tomorrow.”
“You don’t have to do that. Wayne normally gets up around now to make sure I’m up. So you didn’t wake him.” Eddie gets up and stretches as he speaks while you ignore the sliver of skin exposed from his shirt rising up. “You want something to eat before you go? There should be poptarts.” The fact that he basically repeated what his uncle had offered you earlier brings a smile to your face. Turns out both Munson men are kind and giving creatures.
“I’m good. Dustin normally gives me some of the breakfast his mom made when I pick him up. But thanks for offering. See you later alligator!” You wave and make your way out of the room before stopping and popping your head back in. “You’re supposed to say in a while crocodile. It’s fine, you’ll get it next time. See you at school.” Eddie smiles and shakes his head staring at the ground as you leave.
“Maxiiine!” You sing as you knock on her door after leaving the Munson trailer. “Maxy poo, Max, Max and cheese.”
“What?” She can’t help but laugh softly a little bit as she opens the door with her headphones around her neck.
“You ready to go? We’re grabbing Dustin first and then the others.”
“Ready as I’ll ever be I guess.” You swing your arm around her shoulder and lead the way to the car.
“You get shotgun since you’re first on my carpool route.” The two of you slide into the car and you pull out of the spot you parked in.
It’s silent in the car for a couple of minutes and you continuously glance over at her to see if she’s put her headphones on yet. All she seems to do these days is stick to herself blocking everyone out with them. You’ve been worried about her for a while now.
“So how have you been? How’s school?”
“It’s school.” She shrugs and looks out the window.
“Anything new going on with you?”
“I broke up with Lucas.” Your eyes go wide at this new information.
“You what? When, why?”
“The other day, he wouldn’t leave me alone and I had enough of it.” So in other words he probably tried to get her to move on too much when she doesn’t seem to want to. You’ll have to figure out another way to try to get her to open up to you then. You’re a little shocked Lucas hasn’t said anything about it to you though.
“Is it gonna be weird being in the car together?”
“I’m cool if he’s cool. Were you fine over at Eddie’s last night?”
“Yep! I met his uncle this morning too, he’s nice. If it follows the same pattern it always does I’ll be back home and avoiding my dad in a couple days. If not then I’ll ask Steve about staying at his place for a night or two and figure it out from there. I don’t wanna intrude on anyone's space for too long.” You were sure your mom would come get you again though so you shouldn’t even have to think about asking Steve.
“There’s always my place and I’m sure Claudia wouldn’t even bat an eye before sweeping you off into the guest room.”
“That’s true.” Dustin’s mom loves you like you’re her own having gotten to know you through the stories Dustin’s told her and the times you’ve been invited inside for dinner after dropping Dustin off at home or breakfast when you’ve picked him up.
Dustin’s already outside when you pull up to the house holding something, probably your breakfast for the day, wrapped in tinfoil. He barely even looks up until he’s about to open the passenger door where he freezes upon seeing Max in his seat.
“What happened to the rules of shotgun?” He asks as he climbs into the back choosing to sit in the middle seat so it’s easier to talk to you.
“Sorry Dustin but Max was the first one picked up besides you don’t wanna make her sit in the back with the rest of the pack do you?”
“Why was she first picked up?”
“I stayed at Eddie’s last night, pops kicked me out again. What’s in the foil?” You shrug in nonchalance letting Dustin know it’s not a big deal like you normally would when he found out. And as much as he’s itching to ask you about what happened the way you say it lets him know you don’t want to talk about it. So instead he looks down at his hand and holds out the wrapped food for you.
“Mom made you a breakfast sandwich.”
“Wonderful!” You yoink it out of his hand and start unwrapping it at the next stop sign. “We’re getting Mikey along with the Sinclairs today Dustin, so be prepared to make room.” He groans about there not being any room to make while you blissfully ignore it to bite into the heaven that is Claudia’s homemade breakfast sandwich.
You honk your horn as you park between both your own and the Sinclairs homes. Lucas and Erica appear first sliding in on either side of Dustin as Mike starts making his way to the car. As soon as it finally registers to Lucas that Max is in the car his eyes go wide and he fumbles around in his head looking for something to say.
“Hey Mike! Do you have everything you need?”
“Yeah. Why do I always get stuck sitting uncomfortably?” He tries to squeeze between Lucas and the door and when he fails he folds himself up to sit on the floor behind Max’s seat.
“Because everyone else gets here first.” You speak around a mouthful of food after you shove the last bite into your mouth.
The car ride is filled with the boys in the back discussing and talking animatedly about the campaign they were in the middle of for their club with Erica calling them idiots every once in a while. You ask questions here and there to join in or talk with Max but mainly you just drive with the biggest grin on your face over having almost all the boys in your car again. It makes you miss Will even more and more excited than ever to see him over Thanksgiving break.
You pull in front of the middle school first Erica hopping out and Dustin moving over so Mike doesn’t have to sit on the floor for the last couple of minutes. You wait until they’re all situated in the back before pulling away and heading into the high school parking lot. As the boys climb out you put a hand on Max’s arm to stop her from getting out and running.
“You want a ride home today? I can drop you off before I head to work, the boys will be in Hellfire and Erica has a tutoring thing so it’ll be just you and me.”
“Can you actually just take me with you to work? I’ve been meaning to find some new music.”
“I can do that.” She smiles your way before getting out and heading straight for the school instead of waiting around like the boys do. Lucas yells a quick bye to you before rushing after her hoping to be able to ask her how she’s doing. Dustin shares a look with Mike as you reach in to grab your bag before starting to walk off.
“Bye Y/n! Thanks for the ride!”
“See ya Dustin!”
“How was your night?” Mike asks in a quiet voice worried that he’ll upset you if he brings what happened up. You just smile a little at how it shows he cares before shrugging a shoulder and looking his way.
“It was as good as it could be, all things considered.”
“Where’d you end up going?” He knows that the last time it happened you crashed at Steves and the time before that Dustin’s but he likes to know that you’re somewhere safe.
“I stayed at Eddie’s, figured it would be easy for us to work on the project and everything that way and then I wouldn’t have to bother Steve with it again.” You make your way into the building Mike sticking close to your side. “He’s nice. I see why all of you became so close to him so fast. His uncle seems like he’s a great guy too, I met him this morning.”
Mike is silent as he wonders how you fit in the Munson trailer with there being one room. He assumes that Eddie gave you his bed knowing his older friend wouldn’t have made you sleep on the couch, but he also knows that you’re not one to kick someone out of their own bed. His thoughts are interrupted when you speak again.
“How was it after I left?”
“Mom got home and Nancy told her about what happened after saying she’ll get Holly ready for bed. Her and dad got into a fight again, I’m pretty sure he slept on the couch.”
“Serves him right.” You scoff opening up your locker to replace the books in your bag with the ones you need today. “How long do you think it’ll be this time before she comes looking for me?”
“Honestly, I’m not too sure. She’s pissed but he’s being-”
“A stubborn ass?”
“Right. So she might find you soon but he won’t be ready to let you back in.”
“I should probably just start looking for a place of my own now. It’d solve so many problems. He doesn’t even seem like he’s ready to play nice again?” You shut your locker and turn to look at your brother.
“Not really.” Mike has to swallow the lump forming in his throat at the mention of you moving out before speaking.
“Great.” You roll your eyes at the situation. “Alright well love you Mikey, I gotta head to class and you still have to get to your locker. Eddie’s driving you home after Hellfire still right?”
“Yeah, he should be.” You nod, swinging your bag back over your shoulder.
“See you around kid.” You mess up his hair and start heading to your next class missing the way he watches you leave torn between wanting to be normal and not cause a scene and throwing himself into your arms for one of your comforting hugs. He hasn’t had one in a while and with the threat of you moving out and probably never coming around anymore he could really use one.
“How’d your psych test go?” Eddie surprises you at lunch by dropping himself into the seat next to yours at lunch before going to his regular table.
“I’m pretty sure I nailed it. Did your group get tired of your shenanigans and kick you out?”
“And to think I was going to invite you over to sit with us.” He tsks and shakes his head, getting a small laugh out of you. You rest your chin on your hand and lean in his direction with a playful glint in your eyes.
“Who said I wanted to shack up with a bunch of hoodlums.” He leans right back into you so your foreheads are almost touching.
“I’m pretty sure you did last night darlin’ when you were begging to stay over.” There's a moment where the two of you just stare into each other's eyes. Eddie’s flick down to your lips before he jumps out of his seat pulling yours out. “Now c’mon Princess your throne awaits.”
“Don’t say a word.” Mike grumbles to Dustin from where they pause to watch the two of you on their way to the table before stomping the rest of the way over leaving his friend in laughter.
“Guys, this is Y/n.” Eddie shows you off like he’s Vanna White and you’re the big prize they could win if they guess the puzzle right. “Y/n these are the guys. Obviously you know Dustin, Lucas, and Mike. But here’s Jeff, Gareth, and Adam.” He points to each one as he introduces them.
“Hi!” You wave genuinely excited to meet them all. They were just as responsible for making your chosen family feel accepted as Eddie was. They wave back with greetings and Eddie pulls out his seat at the head of the table for you to sit pushing it in before grabbing a spare seat from another table and pulling it up next to you. “It’s nice to meet you guys, Dustin absolutely raves about how cool you all are.” The boy in question groans and slams his head on the table.
Mike hides his jealousy from that sentence with laughter at his friend's embarrassment. The way you say it, it’s like you’re Dustin’s sister instead of his own. Like you talk more with his friends than you do him and for the first time it’s like he realizes that maybe you do. You’re constantly driving them to and from school while he goes with Nancy and he’s even seen Lucas search you out in the halls to tell you something before. Hell you probably even talk to Will more than you talk to him with your at least biweekly calls to them all in California.
Sure Mike talks to you at home but you’re barely there anymore and when you are and ask him if he wants to do anything he always has something else to do that he thinks is more important. He finds himself nostalgic for when he was younger and you would do everything with him because Nancy didn’t want anything to do with him and his mom was too busy with newborn Holly. You were his best friend for a while and now everything has changed and Mike can’t help but wonder why and when he let you become like a stranger in his life.
“Can’t say that’s true, we’re a bunch of losers. Gareth.” He holds his hand out for you to shake and Eddie rolls his eyes into the back of his head when he catches onto the flirty lilt to his voice.
“Keep it in your pants Emerson. I’m sure Mike wouldn’t appreciate you flirting with his sister.”
“Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t.” Mike scoffs out keeping his eyes on Eddie the whole time he speaks hoping it gets his point across. He doesn’t pay any attention to him though he’s too busy watching the way your eyes crinkle as you laugh.
“Y/n!” You could’ve gotten whiplash from how fast you whipped your head around to look at Nancy barrelling towards you. This was certainly new, normally she just acts like she has no idea who you are.
“Nancy?”
“Thank God I caught you. Are you alright? Where’d you go last night? I called Steve but he said you weren’t there. And Mike said you probably didn’t go to Dustin’s because you said you still had to pick him up in the morning.”
“You called Steve?”
“Well yeah, I always call Steve when you get kicked out to make sure you got there okay.”
“Oh, Nancy pants, you do care.”
“So where did you go?” Her face flushes a light pink at the nickname she’s forbidden you from saying anymore and she pulls you to the wall to not be in the way of other students as she interrogates you.
“I-”
“There you are darlin.” Eddie interrupts you digging around in his pocket as he approaches the two of you. “Wanted to give you this.” He takes your hand and shoves a key into your palm. “Wayne’ll be at work and there’s Hellfire tonight, wanted to make sure you’d be able to get into the trailer.” Nancy’s eyes go wide and her jaw almost drops at his words.
“Thanks Angel Eyes but I’ll be at work until at least eight. I’ll probably end up there a little longer to close it up so you should really keep this on you so you’re not locked out of your own home.” You try to give it back to him but he shakes his head and crosses his arms in front of himself.
“Nope, if Hellfire gets out before you’re done with work I’ll just go bug you there. Besides it took me forever to get that off my keychain. I'm not putting it back on so soon.”
“Fine.” You sigh, deciding it wasn’t worth fighting him about this and put the key in your own pocket.
“Great, I’ll see you later!” He beams at you for another minute before he leaves to make his way to the drama room.
“You’re staying with Eddie? You don’t even know him!” Nancy’s eyes are wide with this new information.
“I know him, we have some classes together and Dustin and Lucas talk about him all the time.” You shrug while defending yourself. “Besides I didn’t want to bother Dustin with showing up on his doorstep that late or bother Steve with it again.”
“Steve basically adores you though.”
“Steve doesn’t adore me.” You wave the statement off and look towards the entrance of the school watching the sea of students make their way out of the building.
“Are you kidding me? Of course he does, you should’ve heard how worried he was when I told him you were kicked out again.”
“Okay. Now as confused as I am about what all this was about, I love you and I appreciate you asking if I’m okay so much but I gotta go. Max is probably waiting for me at the car by now and I don’t want to keep her waiting too long. I’ll uh, see you around I guess.” You scratch the back of your neck not sure how to say goodbye to her even though she’s your own sister. Sure you guys were close when you were little but after you and your dad started to fight all the time, around like seventh grade for you, she started to want nothing to do with you it seemed. She’s even called you the problem after certain fights. Which you don’t hold against her because she was still young and not even aware of what the fights were about yet.
“So um, bye!” You smile and wave before rushing down the hall to the exit leaving Nancy behind.
“You.” Steve scans the shop searching for you before he speaks eyes narrowed and finger pointed your way.
“Me?” You point to yourself in your spot on the floor where you’re stocking the cassettes confused as to why he sounds like he’s about to scold you like a mother would a child hand half in the cookie jar. He’s definitely talking to you though, there’s no one else in the store.
“Yes you.” He makes his way through the store until he’s standing over you, most of his weight on one leg and his hands on his hips.
“Why me?”
“You got kicked out again last night.” He folds his arms across his chest while you go back to paying attention to the tapes on the shelf in front of you.
“And?” His worry he seems to have at it is genuine you know that, he’s proved enough times that he cares enough about you to care about when this happens or something happens to make you upset.
Little do you know that Steve’s one of the only people who actually notices how poorly you’re treated by your father and sometimes by the people around you. He got into a few little fights with Nancy about it when they were dating, always telling her that she should talk to you more and stop acting like you’re a pain to be around. He’s even thought about pulling Mike to the side to tell him to appreciate you more. After you met Robin and the two of you started having a small friendship Steve warned her that if she ever pulled something on you like Barb or past friends did he’d drop her so fast even if she’s his best friend. Because even though you’re older than him he’s brought it on himself to take up the protector role that an older brother probably would. You’re too stuck in your head and insecurity that people don’t actually like you as much as it seems to notice though.
“And you didn’t come to my house and you didn’t go to Dustin’s or even Robin’s. So where’d you go hmm? And you better not tell me you slept in your car again.” You had done that the first time you got kicked out and when Steve found out he made sure you knew there was always room at his place for if it happened again.
“I didn’t sleep in my car. I stayed with a friend.”
“What friend?”
“My new friend Eddie, he’s cool. Dustin and the gang like him too so I don’t have to worry about him being a creep.” You shrug and shove the rest of the copies of Wham’s album Make It Big in place before grabbing the box that’s now empty and getting up to head towards the front desk.
“You don’t mean Eddie Munson?” Steve sputters out lagging behind you.
“The very same.”
“What is it about him that has you all drawn like sheep to the flock?”
“Dunno, he's just nice I guess, I feel comfortable around him and so do the kids. What are you doing here anyway, shouldn’t you be closing up Family Video tonight with Robin?”
“We weren’t busy so I popped out to check on you. Where are you staying tonight?”
“I’ll still be at Eddie’s. You should get back to work in case it does get busy because Robin will just close and blame you again when the two of you get in trouble for it.” You place the empty box on the ground and grab the one filled with the records you have to stock up. You really should be doing stock after closing but you never saw the point in not just doing it during your last hour when almost no one comes in. You’d rather do stock than sit there and do nothing, that is when you don’t have school work you should be doing and you don’t feel like being in a rush to get home.
“It’s Family Video how busy can it be?” He thinks about it for a second while you watch the gears in his head turn. “You might have a point though, I don’t need Robs throwing me under the bus again.”
“Exactly.” You shoot him a finger gun while resting the box on your hip.
“I’ll see you then Y/n, you’re still coming to that movie night Robin’s been planning next weekend right?”
“Course I am I got off work and everything for it, King.” Steve’s nickname, as boring as it is, is more inspired by Stephen King, his books being one of the first things the two of you bonded over, than it is his old King Steve title he had.
“Alright, bye Y/n!” He pulls you into a quick side hug, careful of the box of records before heading out of the shop.
Meanwhile Eddie’s dropping the kids off starting with Lucas and Mike because Dustin insisted on being dropped off last.
“So what’s going on with you and my sister?” Eddie chokes on his own spit at Mike’s sudden words.
“What do you mean?”
“Do you like her or something?” Mike leans between the two front seats, eyes narrowed at his older friend.
“What?! Why would you think that?” Eddie nearly crashes the car at his shock of being asked that.
“You’re being really nice to her.”
“Yeah, believe it or not Wheeler, I'm a nice guy.”
“She’s staying at your place until further notice.”
“I’m just trying to help a friend out no matter how new they are.”
“You’ve been constantly giving her goo goo eyes.”
“Oh look, it's your stop. You two out so I can get Dustin home.” Eddie stops in front of Lucas’s house so quickly it would’ve sent Mike flying into the stereo if Eddie hadn’t put his arm out to stop him. He normally would’ve just pulled in front of Mike’s house first and turned around before dropping Lucas off but he’s honestly just trying to dodge all of Mike’s questions.
“We’re not done with this.”
“Well we are for now. Bye Lucas.”
“See ya Eddie!” Lucas salutes him before climbing out of the van. Mike glares at Eddie a minute longer before following him grumbling to himself. Eddie’s quick to drive off after seeing Mike get to his porch.
“Alright Dustin, when did Wheeler learn to be slightly nerve wracking?” Dustin shrugs and leans back in his seat.
“He just gets like that. Should’ve seen him when Steve started getting closer with her after him and Nancy broke up. Mike thought since he lost one sister he was just gonna go for the other one.”
“Was he?” Eddie’s grip on the steering wheel tightens ever so slightly that he doesn’t even notice it.
“Nah, he’s got more like an older brother vibe to their friendship.” Eddie lets out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
“But he’s younger than her?”
“Ya but it’s all in how he acts with her and with things regarding her.” Eddie rolls to a stop in front of Dustin's house and he opens the door pausing before getting out to turn back towards his friend. “It does seem like you like her though Eddie. And unlike Mike I think the two of you would be good for each other.” And with that he gets out slamming the door and rushing up to his front door.
Eddie shakes his head at his words, a small smile forming on his face as he pulls away and starts making his way to the music store since there’s still twenty minutes till you close.
“Hey there Angel Eyes! We got more Abba in today if you wanna see if we have any you don’t.” And as you tease him with a smile that makes him feel like it’s just for him Eddie can't help but wonder if his young friends are right about him starting to like you.

Upon it’s arrival, the rain showered down as the wind howled through the open window of the trailer window. The sun stayed hidden by the gloomy, grey clouds, while the town of Hawkins remained indoors for the day. The trees’ leaves glistened with ran drops, as for the road as well.
There wasn’t much to do on a day like this. All the fun things were far and required actual effort. Luckily, you were at Eddie’s before the weather’s dramatic change.
Kissing each other hungrily, you straddle Eddie’s lap for a more comfortable position, rather than practically being on top of him. Eddie’s hands flew to your waist, gripping them for more support. Your hand were kept at his shoulders, slowly creeping up to his hair, grasping it. Along with the intimacy, came a loud thundering noise from the outside. You moaned into his mouth as he squeezed your thighs, aware of the erection that had suddenly appeared.
“Runaway with me,” you whisper onto his lips, your hips grinding into his.
“What?” Eddie questions, pulling away from the heated kiss, still keeping his hands in your waist. You stop grinding and peer into his eyes.
“You heard me,” you started. “Runaway with me. After thanksgiving, you and I will runaway to a place far from here.”
“As much as I’d love to, I’m pretty sure your parents would call the cops.”
“They won’t care, they never do,” you say, placing your hands onto Eddie’s shoulders. “All they talk about is Nancy and her stupid dream. I don’t think they’d notice if i’m gone. I’m never home anyways, it won’t matter.”
That was somewhat correct. You were always second to Nancy, never the first. It was like your parents intended to have only one child, but unexpectedly had two. You were the extra, and always would be. Sophomore year of high school, you won the prize of first place for an national writing competition. Nancy also entered, but unexpectedly won top five, instead of first. Your parents never congratulated you, all they did was comfort Nancy after her dramatic melt down, complaining that her life was ruined.
It was at that moment that you realized your importance in the eyes of your parents. Since then, you’ve completely went off path, and changed your whole life. Meeting Eddie was perhaps the best thing to happen in three years . Aware of your relationship with your parents, he made sure you felt seen. Which is why, you wanted to take him with you on your escape from Hawkins.
“Are you sure you want to do this? I mean, think about the hardships you’d have to go through. What about money? How would you deal with that?” Eddie asked, truly engaged with the conversation. He did want to join you, but it definitely was a complicated subject.
“What do you think I do when I’m not with you? I don’t prance around all day and sing songs. I work at a tattoo parlor in Ohio. I’ve saved up enough money to live off of for the both of us. I’ve really though hard on this, Eddie, I know what I want to do.”
It’s not like you and Eddie haven’t discussed your futures. The both of you were set on leaving Hawkins, and perhaps get married, but running away? Isn’t that a bit harsh? The look in your eyes said it all, you really wanted to leave. He knew you were unhappy, and all he wanted to do was to make you the happiest woman alive, so maybe just this once he could sacrifice everything and leave.
“Please say something before I change my mind and leave you be,” you said, anxious to hear about Eddie’s response to your plan.
“Sure, princess, I’ll go with you, but you have to promise me one thing,” Eddie started, taking you me hand into his.
“Of course, I’d do anything for you, Eds.”
“You’ll never give up, because something like this requires a lot of time and effort,” he said.
You nodded, “I promise.”
From that moment on, all you could think about was the time you’d spend with Eddie, planning the escape. At one point, though, you did think about your parents.
“How would they react to me missing?” you thought, not that it mattered in the slightest bit.
Eventually, time passed, the leaves on the trees turned to warm colors, while the temperature became cooler. Your planned escape was creeping closer and closer as time flew by.
You were nervous, yet excited. Life truly began when you took Eddie’s hands, and promised him to never give up. The moment the two of you shared a loving gaze after that was when you knew you weren’t worried about anything that threatened you. Eddie was there to protect and vice versa.
After all, it was you and Eddie against the world.

Tumblr media
In a small rural town in Hawkins, Indiana, is where this strange adventure begins. Born 18 years ago is our main protagonist of the story, Y/N Wheeler. Y/N grew up with a loving family that owns a farm, consisting of her twin sister, Nancy, her younger brother, Mike, and baby sister, Holly; and of course her parents.
When she wasn’t helping out on her parents’ farm, Y/N was the typical “all american” girl. She dawns lovely clothes, is mindful and full of manners, a cheer captain and top of her classes throughout the school years and earned many straight A’s that steered her in the right direction for a bright future and career. Which leads to her very big day…
.
.
.
Now here you are, dressed in hunter green silk and caps, the seniors waited around on the bleachers of the basketball court, diplomas in hand as they listened to their principal speak from his heart, telling them that he was very proud that you made it this far. When he finishes everyone claps and soon the spotlight falls upon you as the class valedictorian.
You stood up as your name was called, hearing everyone applaud and your family cheer from you in the stands; You even heard your boyfriend, Jason, shouting your name. You step up to the podium with a smile, proceeding to recite the speech that you’ve replayed thousands of times.
“Today, I would like to talk about change. It’s all around us.” You feel your family’s eyes on you as you begin. “Change. It happens whether we want it or not. Change. Are we ready for it? I think so. We are poised and prepared for the future, ready to embrace new people, places and ideas. In short, we are ready for the challenge of life. Lady and Gentleman, take a good look at us. We are the future. We are the Hawkins Tigers. Here us roar! We did it!”
“I give you the class of 20XX!” Your principal sent just as everyone sent their caps into the air while jumping with joy.
•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°
“We fucking did.” Your twin, Nancy, said once everyone was settled down into their friend’s house for the party. She passes you a drink and gives you a wink to silently tell you this was a… special fruit punch.
You laugh quietly. “Thank you Mr. Hopper.” You smile and take a sip before sighing with relief. “Four long years and it’s finally over.”
Nancy hums. “And you’re the one who’s jumping right back into it.”
You quirk your eyebrow up. “Hey, pot-kettle? You’re going to college, too.”
“Not willing…” She sighs. “I wish I could have gone to the same school as you.”
“I know.” You frown a little. It was always hard to not stay attached to your twin, especially when you’ve done pretty much everything together. However, you try to keep both your hopes up by saying, “But, hey… you can’t pass up a scholarship. Indiana’s instate school is still just as great as California’s. Not to mention, Indiana U has the best journalism courses, this is your dream! Your calling! You’ll be great.”
You see your sister smile, happy with the outcome just as someone came up and slung their arms around both your shoulders.
“How are my favorite girls doing?” Jonathan, who was your childhood/best friend, asked, with the biggest grin on his face. Whether that was from drinking or feeling the high of not being in highschool, you were unsure of but glad to see he was enjoying himself.
“Pretty amazing, actually.” Nancy replies to her boyfriend (Yeah, her boyfriend. Whom she should thank you for that). “You?”
He lets out a blissful sigh. “Fantastic! The nightmare is finally over.”
You snorted and teased, “You really didn’t like it?”
“Hell, no. You think there’s room for a nerd like me? I never fit in.”
“Awe.” Nancy said, squeezing his cheek. “You’ll always be our nerd.”
“Thanks.”
“Hey, hey! Y/N! Jonathan!” You both turned around to spot one of your brothers’ friends, Dustin. He smiles with his goofy toothless grin, making you heart melt (He was always your favorite one. Don’t tell, Mike). “Hey, if you find a cute girl around my age in Cali, send her my way.”
“Dusty!” His mother said, catching his conversation when she walked by.
“What?”
Jonathan laughs. “We’ll try. I promise.” He said, ruffling the kid’s springy hair.
He holds his hand to his chest, all moved. “What about you Nancy? Any cute girls in Bloomington?”
“I will definitely try, Dustin.” She promises as well, crossing her heart. It must have been enough for the boy before he ran off with some friends to the backyard.
“What do you think Cali’s like?” Jonathan asked, genuinely curious.
“Hmm, don’t know.” Nancy said, knowing just watching shows from there and reading up about it wasn’t enough information.
“I mean, sun, sand, ocean, uh–”
“Baywatch, The Hollywood sign, uh, Nickelodeon, um–” You started naming off things and couldn’t hide the fact that you were about to laugh at your own antics. Both your sister and friend were on the verge of doing the same.
“Nickelodeon?” Jonathan muttered, surprised.
“Y-Yeah, uh, Regular Show, San Andreas fault, Chris Pine, Comic Con, Pet Rocks–”
“Pet Rocks?” Nancy asked, confused.
“Hey, they were invented in the state, look it up. Uh, Universal Studios, Barbie, The San Diego Zoo, Alcatraz–”
She chuckles. “Y/N, Stop.”
“Never.”
“Oh, kids!” Jonathan’s mother, Joyce, called out, getting their attention.
Well, I guess that’s your guys’ cue to take some photos.
•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°
You were all packed and ready to go for the next day. Since Nancy didn’t start school till next week, your family decided it would be nice for all of you to pack in the old van and drive to your new school. Your Dad says it was for… safety, but you knew better; They were all going to desperately miss you. Which leads to this conversation that’s been going back and forth for a few moments now.
“-California is a long way off just to go to school. Are you sure you don’t want to reconsider going in state?” Your father, Ted, asked, and just when you were about to ‘go to bed’.
You laugh lightly, trying to calm his nerves. “You know I want to do this. Besides, I won’t be alone. Jonathan will be there with me.”
“Well– that’s true. But uh, Y/N, I’m not sure if I’ve really prepared you for what you’re gonna run into out there. Uh–” He clears his throat as you raise an eyebrow. “What I mean is… the boys are different from what they are here. They’re uh–”
“Dad?”
“Hmm?”
You smile. “I’ll be fine. You know me.”
He nods. “Yeah, I guess you’re right.” He knows you well enough that you won’t do anything too crazy. “Now let’s try to get some shut eye.”
“Okay.”
“Goodnight.”
“‘Night.”
And when the door shut, your closet automatically flew wide open (and you pray that it didn’t make too much noise).
“He’s officially calling it a night?” Nancy asked, dressed in street clothes which you were also wearing under your robe. She was skeptical as she stared at the door wondering if he’ll just waltz back in here without warning.
“Yep.” You reply, shedding your coverage and standing tall.
“Oh, finally! He gave the same talk, and I don’t leave for another week!” She smiles. “Thanks for letting me sneak out.”
“Hey, we both got to see our boyfriends before we leave, right?”
“Just–” She grabs you by your hands. “Be careful, alright?”
“Right back at you, Nance.”
•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°
You found yourself in the barn that was far away from your house. Laying on the hay bales, you were kissing Jason passionately, your hands in his hair and slowly moaning his name as he slowly undoes each button on your blouse. But your worriedness got the best of you, making you squirm a bit from his touch.
“Jason.” You whisper, feeling his fingers skim across your bra straps.
“What?” He said back, ghosting your ripe lips.
“Slow down.”
“Why?”
“‘Cause I-I want it to be right.” You reply, a twinge of guilt courses through you as he stops his actions, looking you dead in the eyes with concern and softness.
“Well, when is it going to be right?” He asked, sounding like a lost puppy. “You’re leaving tomorrow.”
You almost laugh at the face he was making. “You act like it’s forever.”
“Well I’m not going to see you for three months. What if everything changes?”
“Nothing is going to change.” You shake your head, cupping his face and stroking his cheeks with your thumb. “I’ll go to school, you’ll work at the co-op, and we’ll see each other every single vacation. And when I’m done–” You smile. “We’ll be together.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
“Okay.” He whispers, fully under your spell. “I guess I can wait.”
You hum in delight. “Now…” You pull him closer again. “Where were we?”
•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°
“Dad’s going to blow a fuse if we don’t leave soon!” Nancy says, barging into the bathroom where you were finishing up doing your hair.
“I know, I know. I’m finishing up.” You said, sparing your twin a glance. You can see her button her collared shirt all the way up, making you grin like the cheshire cat. “Oooh… I didn’t know Byers was a biter.”
She blushed and lightly smacked you in the arm. “Do not tease me. I mean he always is.”
Your eyebrows shot up. “Always?”
“Yeah.” She locks eyes with you, face still red before realizing. “Wait… You and Jason still haven’t done it?”
Now it was your turn to blush. “W-Well–”
“I thought you surely were going to do it last night?”
“I-I don’t know, I got weird.” You shrug, breaking eye contact. “I told him we should wait, you know, when the time’s right.”
“So you’re going to be like a 40 year old virgin?” Nancy teased, copying your grin from earlier.
“Hey.” You said, smacking her this time.
“Joking, I think it’s sweet. Y/N Wheeler, the purest of all Wheelers.”
“You know they think you’re pure too.” You said as you followed her out and down the stairs.
“Ha, ha.”
“I’m serious, Nance!” You reply, feeling around your pockets as you do so. “Oh, crap. I forgot my phone.”
“Well hurry up! Dad’s a ticking time bomb.” She yelled back and hustled out of the house. The conversation she foretold was being presented in front of her.
“I don’t get why we’re driving. Flying would be much easier.” Mike complained as he loaded his backpack into the car with a sour expression.
“We’re just trying to spend some quality time with your sister, Okay?” Their mother, Karen said, giving him a look to tell him to stop.
“Oh, good, Holly’s here.” Ted said, as he spotted the four year old climbing into the van. “Mike, where’s your sisters?”
“I’m here!” Nancy said, while fixing her hair to cover her neck.
“Okay, where’s Y/N then?”
“Maybe she’s still in the barn with–” Mike snickers, before getting whacked in the back of his head by Nancy. “Ow! Mom!”
“Kids, stop fighting!” Karen shouted back.
“Y/N!” Ted called out, upon seeing his daughter still up in her room through her window.
“Coming!” You called back, double checking you have everything before you go (I mean I guess your family could mail anything you need to you but that’ll be a hassle for them; And maybe kind of a dick to do that to them?).
“Well hurry up! Time is of the essence.” He sighs. “I swear, the Byers are going to beat us there.
•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°
And sure enough…
They did.
Parking pretty much right next to each other, you stood their basking in front of the school along with Jonathan and his sister. The younger girl was looking at it like she’s never seen such a big building before.
“Bitchin’.” She says, and both you and Jonathan hold back a laugh.
“Language, young lady.” Jim, or who you like to call, Hopper said to his daughter who gave him a strange look.
“You say it all the time.”
“Think she’s caught you there.” Jonathan said, throwing salt into the wound.
“You’re not helping your sister here.” He points to the car. “Now I’m going to make my kids grab your own bags.”
“What?!” They said, which resulted in some light bickering, which was kind of happening with the other family beside them.
“Y/N! Get your head out of the clouds, and let’s find your dorm.” Ted said, and you hurry over.
The families grabbed the belongings and headed straight first into the hectic crowd. This was definitely a culture shock for them, especially for the Wheelers. The hallway was crowded with rowdy young adults, cracking jokes, makeout sessions, and even the occasionally streaker. You locked eyes with your sister when it happened, who was trying to hold back a smirk as your eyes just stayed wide. Your dad ushered you to keep moving until you found your dorm, overhearing a conversation while you passed.
“Uh, this was the– uh, opportunity that you wanted for your daughter?” Ted said, as Karen tried to hold back her feelings on her face (Which was hard at this point).
When you finally got to the room at the end of the hall, room 408, you noticed the left side of the room was empty, free for you to use. The other side was already occupied, filled with a few movie posters and cheer pendants. You smiled and wondered what your roommate would be like (and was excited that she likes cheerleading like you. At least you have a good conversation started).
“Hey, why don’t you see where Jonathan’s at?” You tell Nancy who complied and dove back into the crowd.
“Well this is very cozy, sweetie.” Karen said, trying to stay positive.
“It’s a shithole.” Mike replies, plopping on your bed.
“Mike!”
“What?”
“It’s… not bad. I’ll do.” You said, also trying to keep your head up high. But your brother tries to say something else and you were fortunately saved by a cute ginger girl entering the room.
“Hello, there. I’m Chrissy, your roomie.” She said, slightly shy as she gave the family a wave.
“Hi.” You said, waving too. “I’m Y/N.”
“Sorry to bother you, Chrissy, but it seems we forgot the key to her trunk.” Ted said, gesturing to where most of your belongings were. “Do you have any idea where I can get some tools?”
“Oh, yes. Uh, our resident advisor should have something.” She points across the hall. “He’s right across from here.”
“Oh, perfect. Thank you.” He was secretly happy that his precious daughter would be across from the advisor. He pushes himself past some people, knuckles brushing against the door. He knocked a few times afterwards when he didn’t get a response, wondering if maybe it was too loud to even hear it or he’s not in. So, treading carefully, he opens the door to peek inside.
This was not at all what he was expecting.
He was blasted in the face with ‘Iron Maiden’, and a room that screamed heavy metal. Stickers and posters laid across the wall, all consisting of either some kind of band or horror film; A record player-CD combo on the shelf, instruments of every kind, sheet music on the floor, leather jackets and boots hanging off from the windows and ceiling. This was not…
Resident advisor material.
Did he walk into the wrong place or–
“Hello!!” A voice shouts before he dangled upside down in front of the older man. Ted nearly has a heart attack as he startles and falls back against the door. “Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you, I’m just trying to get the creative juices flowing. You know?”
“Uh– s-sure.” Ted said, still trying to process this. He keeps his eyes on him and not the fact that this boy was hanging from a pipe. “Um, I need to borrow a screwdriver.”
The boy, who’s hair was long and curly and orbs of cinnamon, raised an eyebrow. “Sorry, I’m all out of vodka.”
“N-No, I need an actually screwdriver. My daughter’s trunk is–”
“Oh, you have a daughter! Is she cute?”
“What–”
“I’m just kidding.” He smiles and holds his hand out. “Name’s Eddie. I’m the resident advisor.”
Make that a second heart attack for Mr. Wheeler, who’s face paled as he tried reaching for the doorknob behind him. “Oh, shit. Oh, shit.”
“What? Where are you going?” He asked, with a snort. “Don’t leave me hanging.”
But Ted was already hustling back over to the room where they were still talking to Chrissy, who was getting them up to speed on how this place ran. He comes over to his wife, pulling her aside and discussing what he just witnessed and how he’s not liking this. Meanwhile, Nancy had just returned while stringing along her boyfriend.
“Oh, Chrissy, this is my twin Nancy and my friend Jonathan.” You said, as she waves to them.
“Hi. You guys coming to school too?” Chrissy asked, your sister shaking her head.
“I am.” Jonathan said, before looking at you. “Y/N/N, this is awesome.”
You tilt your head. “Really? I still think this is a bit overwhelming.”
“I admit, it is, but my roommate, Argyle, is a trip.” He smiles. “I’m so going to love this place.”
“See, honey–” Karen said, loudly. “Jonathan’s staying.” She holds her hand up to stop her husband from talking. “And yes, I’m sure Joyce has some words about this place too, but the kids can’t pass this up. They got on a scholarship here.”
“But Karen–” He tries to protest.
“They. Have. A. Scholarship. They’re staying.” Her eyes trailed over to yours. “Right?”
You flash your dad a smile. “Don’t worry, Dad. It’ll be fine. And you know I can always come home.”
“See, Ted?” Your mother points out, finally defeating him. He mumbles an ‘okay’, satisfying her.

“Mom, you’re suffocating me.” Jonathan said, after yet another hug and kiss from his mother. She was holding back some tears at the thought of leaving her oldest child behind in another state.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I’m really happy for you, I promise.”
“I know, Mom, I know.” He takes her hands in his. “I promise I’ll be okay.” She opens her mouth to speak. “And I promise I’ll call every once and a while.”
Joyce smiles at the answer. “You’re going to do great.”
The family of five shared a hug afterwards, wishing him the best of luck. Meanwhile, the Wheelers were doing the same, squeezing the life of You and nagging you to make you call, or at least text them here and there. You of course promised them too, which was a good enough answer.
The last person to hug you was your sister, giving you a small squeeze of reassurance, knowing you like the back of her hand.
“I know you’re nervous about fitting it, but don’t sweat it.” She says, pulling away. “You’re going to do fine. If not, you can always go home, or…” She smirks. “You can nag Jonathan.”
You chuckle. “Of course I can nag him. It’s not like I’ll be alone.”
You have Jonathan, and you even have your chill roommate, Chrissy. You shouldn’t get too lonely.

Hear me out on this one, Eddie Munson is about to have his moment. Look at the way everyone is looking at him, intently listening to what he has to say, I don't know what's going on here, but I do know that this is most likely going to be a confidence-boosting moment for Eddie where he gets to shine.

Lipstick Stains
Tumblr media
Billy Hargrove x Harrington FemReader
Summary: There has been some new gossip floating through Hawkins High. The gossip being that Billy has a lipstick stain that just so happens to match a certain girl's iconic shade.
....................................................................
You were a Harrington. You had a certain standing that you had to keep cause of the expectations of your parents. One of those expectations were not making out with Billy Hargrove in his car in the back of the school parking lot during lunch. But your parents were never home so you didn't really give a damn.
"Billy we have to go back into the school at some point." You said releasing your lips from his. As you tried to pull back he pulled you in for another quick kiss.
"Oh come on, we don't have to." He smirked to you.
"Listen Mr. Bad Boy, I know you don't like school but I have a test." You said to him. He gave you a small pout at your response to which you just laughed at him. "You also messed up my lipstick." You said as you flipped the visor down to use the mirror to reapply your dark red lipstick.
"That's not the only thing I can mess up." He joked. You just gave him the look, he knew the look. It didn't need a name.
"Well Hargrove I have to get going." You brought yourself close to kiss his neck then up to the apple of his freckled cheeks. You collected you things to go back into the school before the bell. Before you shut the door you look back at Billy to see the two kiss marks that you left on him. You just smiled at him.
"Love ya, see you later." You said then shut the door to go to the school.
Billy continued with his day like usual. Thinking that nothing would go out of the ordinary. He knew he was hot shit so people were staring at him as perusal but he didn't know what they were staring at. In each class he had stares his way, to which he had to tell some off for looking too long.
"Nice job man." Tommy Hagan laughed as he patted his back. Billy was just confused about what he was talking about but he continued as nothing was wrong. The bell rang through the halls to signal that the school day was over. Billy made his way to the doors top the parking lot to leave when he saw a certain Steve Harrington staring him down from his locker.
"You got a problem Harrington?" He asked.
"Yeah, not with you though." Steve replied slamming his locker shut to go find a certain sister of his. Billy didn't know that, he was just confused and thought nothing of it. He finally was able to make it to his Camaro to wait for Max. Students around him were still looking at him. Some girls looking in distaste, not at him but at the kiss marks on his cheeks. Some guys were just laugh in congrats to him. Billy just wanted to get the hell out and get Max home so he can go see his girlfriend. Billy looked over to see a certain red head making her way over to his car.
"Get in shit-bird, I got places to be." He said as he got in the drivers seat while Max got in the passenger seat. She just stared at him, more than she would usually. Which is not at all. Billy glanced at her a few times.
"What?" He asked annoyed with her staring.
"What's on your face?" She asked. Billy was confused until he thought back to lunch. He grabbed his sun visor to look himself in the mirror to see the two kiss marks on him. Just as he thought, one on his cheek and the other on his neck. He just laughed what he was looking at.
"Well that explains a Lot." He sighed starting his car to drive away.
Later that day Billy was able to make it to the Harrington house hold. Instead of parking down the street, he parked in the driveway. Instead of climbing through the window of his girlfriends bedroom, he simply knocked the front door of her house. Which, unfortunately, the other Harrington answered. He and Steve just stared at one another for a moment.
"Hargrove."
"Harrington."
"What are you doing here?"
"I think you know why exactly I'm here, or you don't."
"I do know why you're here." Steve stated sternly.
"Then tell me, why am I here?" Billy gabbed at him with a smirk playing on his face.
"Can you guys stop having a dick measuring contest for once." Your voice was heard in a very much over it tone. "Get out of here Steve."
"But-" You stopped him from continuing.
"Eh, I don't wanna hear any more then I already have. You're being a Buttface." You sassed at him. "Now I would like to talk to my boyfriend."
Steve just rolled his eyes and sighed. Walking away from his enemy and his sister in the same door way. You turn your head back to Billy with a grin on your face.
"So what are you doing here, handsome."
"Well, I am here to see my girlfriend that I have to have a small chat about." His voice going a slight octave lower. Something that you loved.
"And what do you have to chat about?" You stilled teased at him.
"Well I made out with this gorgeous woman at lunch, and after I thought my day would go by like usual. But I had people staring at me all day. I didn't know why until I looked into the mirror to find that the exact pretty girl I was kissing left some marks on me." He explained to you. "Now I am at said pretty girls house to get a reason why she did that."
"Well I think she just wanted to have a bit of fun with you, if you ask me."
"Well as much as I love that, I think I would love to have some fun with her right now."
"Well you'er gonna have to wait on that, handsome." You said." Big Bro ain't to happy with me, I've been getting an ear full for the past hour."
"I can wait." He reassured. "I will always wait for you, gorgeous." You just smiled at him and dragged him into your house.
"Is he staying long?" Steve's distant voice was heard.
"Shut up Steve." You yelled out to him. "Like I said, ear full all day."
You and Billy just laughed at the situation. But at least you both can enjoy each others company in the end.
...................................................................
I hope y'all enjoyed this. Sorry if it is short. I know I haven't been to active, writing wise, lately. I'm trying to get through school right now.
I will try to get more out for Boots and Trumpets, and Practically Magic later.
Thank you for reading.
