weird to think that people dont know the lore. havent been here since the start. dont know that me and pigeon home were roommates and upon seeing the first art of the drdi trio's apartment he went "thats our apartment. kale, that is our apartment." that i used to post daily 3-5k chapters. that the creation of drdi connects directly with my realization of my aroace identity. that drdi was meant to be an office comedy. that pigeonhome is why i took it seriously (despite not letting him read it for months, sorry bestie). the pill bug crustacean debacle. the teasing chapter 21 as the turnaround in ycssg and having it be 20. the student gov senate president that inspired me to write dream. all of it. so much of this fic represents my life. so many of my friends are from it.

tommy and ranboo in english class are literally my only two flavors of adhd in class. either i’m fully not listening or i am writing down every single word said because i cannot retain a single thing i have no idea what’s important and what’s not also i need to color code AND draw diagrams

i’m throughly convinced tommy’s characterization is based on me at this point. even if he’s not i’m claiming him as my self insert character. he has adhd probably, likes sugary coffee, and has daddy issues.

hello. i’ll be entirely honest, i thought i left my high school au phase in 2020 along with sanders sides. however. it seems that is not the case.

i am so throughly raptured by cough syrup. you have no idea. it doesn’t help that your writing is s o fucking spot on with the character dynamics- i genuinely don’t think i’ve EVER seen such realistic dialogue of sbi + beeduo in particular. tommy and techno’s interactions go far beyond the average “i worship you” vs “you are a Child” dynamic often seen in fics with comedic elements, and it’s very fun to read.

i also rarely see character so spot on with ranboo’s character. while, sure, many consider only the explicitly lore parts of dsmp canon, there are so many unique things about ranboo that many authors simply refuse to capture. ranboo, at his core, is a very witty and driven person; it’s his anxiety and lack of confidence that get in the way. and of course, those flaws will be far more present in the dramatics of (LORE!!!!), so people tend to prioritize them.

i also adore that (at least from where i can see the story leading) tubbo and ranboo’s relationship is not simply platonic for the sake of tip-toeing the lines of their characters. in my eyes, both characters are pretty explicitly queer, as are many other characters. obviously, it’s good to include representation of aro-ace characters (my favorite series ever is leafcabbage’s drdi), but it certainly ignores a large part of the ambiguity of canon. i feel like certain authors are referencing a story that is specifically platonic, and only platonic, when that is not the case.

(ps, sorry for so much, but i love how you portray schlatt and tubbo’s alcoholism. it’s rare to see a depiction of the guilt of genetics; addiction is genetically predisposed, and while many victims are aware of that, they don’t give themselves the freedom to recognize that it is not their fault. yes, it is extremely important to give yourself the best starting platform you can. yes, addiction should /not/ be encouraged and should be battled against. but that doesn’t mean we have to categorize addicts as nothing but. addicts are humans, often born to an unfortunate genetic makeup, and they deserve a chance to thrive.)

anyway, sorry for my rants, kinda got carried away.

i just want to say before i address any of this that you NEVER have to apologize for 'ranting' or saying 'so much' or anything. i assure you that i absolutely LOVE reading any feedback of any length and it means the world to me, and long comments (though i do love short comments as well) especially brighten my day. so thank you so so much for taking time out of your day to tell me this because it means a hell of a lot to me, and you're welcome to say as much or as little as you like any time! i promise i am extremely wordy as a person so anything goes with me :D

thank you so much for just... all of this? this is such a sweet comment i swear it means everything to me seriously. i'm really glad the sbi + beeduo dialogue feels natural, i usually try really hard to envision their voices and see if it sounds like actual dialogue they've had in the past or what i've seen is common for them, because dialogue is one of my favorite things ever in writing so i want to perfect it as much as possible. so that feedback means a LOT to me thank you; i really like writing tommy and techno interacting though it is rather difficult so i'm happy to hear that :]

i'm also SO happy to hear you like how i want ranboo! even though i probably write him the most in general and feel pretty comfortable with him, i did worry with cough syrup specifically about my accuracy in nailing down his personality traits and everything. like you said so perfectly, he is SO witty and driven, and i really want to try and get as much of his character into cough syrup as possible because it's all so important to me. he's anxious, hypocritical, determined, hard-working, clever, awkward, clumsy, perceptive, emotional, compassionate, etc.-- it's important to me i capture a lot of his character, but also acknowledge, like you said, the impact that his mental health has on him, and how he copes (or doesn't cope) with that.

okay handshake on loving drdi that's SUCH a good series you have immaculate taste. anyway yeah! cough syrup was initially going to be a platonic fic, in full honesty, but after realizing that their relationship in canon (from my perspective with what is shown) is very ambiguous and leaning romantic, plus the fact that i really enjoyed headcanoning them as being in a QPR as well, plus me writing cough syrup at the start while trying to be in a QPR with someone (no longer the case, so much, but i do remember my emotions, still lingering, quite fondly and often use it as direction)-- i quickly made that switch a bit after i wrote the first draft of chapter 3. and i'm very glad i did! QPRs just mean a lot to me in general and though i perceive canon c!beeduo personally as being ambiguously romantic rather than queerplatonic, i did want to write cs!beeduo being that way. sorry this entire paragraph sounds cyclical to me i don't know why i repeated the same sentiment a dozen times, hope that all makes sense!

i think out of everything wonderful you said this comment about the portrayal of their alcoholism means the most to me, because i've recently been worried about that. alcoholism is in many respects a genetic and trauma-related condition, and i never outright want to villainize someone for being an alcoholic. it's important to me to, as much as possible (and later through CS, i hope to do this more), show the circumstances that led to it, because i never want schlatt to be read as this one dimensional caricature of an alcoholic. not to get terribly personal or anything but being someone who has had several close relationships to alcoholics, it's far more complex of an issue than i worry sometimes i write it to be. as a person who has never struggled with alcoholism, it's important to me that i do a good job not villainizing it; i see that as a responsibility. so it's very reassuring to hear i am not doing a terrible job. cs!tubbo especially holds a lot of genetic guilt, alcoholism being a major facet of that. i hope that was all phrased well, i'm ironically not always the best with words in these cases.

hi! for the last almost two years, i've been writing a benchtrio-centric dream SMP college student government au! at this point, that feels a little weak for all that it is, since it covers a LOT more than student government.

the setup: ranboo is an assistant to the Somnium Peninsula University's student government (Board and Senate) and in their first year at the university. tommy and tubbo are both on the senate, as are a variety of the other dsmp characters. tommy and tubbo meet ranboo, and almost immediately begin a friendship with them, but ranboo is full of trauma and dealing with a lot of shit on the side, making things a little rocky for them.

but wait, there's more! you've got queer characters, characters with disabilities, acknowledgement of the shitty side of american universities, heavily researched medical issues, and a story of found family and learning that there can be more to life than what's been thrown at you.

as a surprise to no one here i think i will be taking a step into the explicitly qpr/labeled as a relationship territory in the nearish future between benchtrio in drdi, which is something i have wanted to do for quite a while and finally decided fuck it it'll make me happy. ive always been so hesitant to get into more physical stuff (kissing perhaps?) because of the general environment of og dsmp fandom, but i think it's become a lot more open, and i mean. the ccs clearly dont care about rpf shipping at this point and what i am writing is certainly not rpf anyway. anyway that said! still gonna get aroace tubbo rep, still getting aroace-spec & mlm rep from ranboo, still getting . um. whatever the hell is going on with tommy. ok thanks for listening

Hii! Hunger Games Anon here. After the double bombs that Ranboo got caught up in- I think you said he got another brain injury during it? What injuries/effects from the second brain injury did they have?

hi again!!

yes, so the first head injury (from the warehouse collapse) isnt as severe as the TBI they got from the car accident in drdi. they still have quite a few ongoing symptoms and of course post traumatic epilepsy, but they dont have to relearn speech, nor is that when they get their partial facial paralysis. those are both things they do experience after the bombs, though, as well as balance and coordination struggles, muscle weakness, and some nasty brain fog for the weeks following the injury.

they are able to recover from some of the effects of course, but there are other things that are lifelong. like theoretically im sure the capitol doctors are advanced enough to fix the facial paralysis but A. ranboo has so much trauma that i doubt they would consent to a surgery, and B. things are such a mess it would probably be hard to arrange. as for things like relearning to talk, its a lot slower going because a lot of it happens after leaving everything behind, and tommy, tubbo, sneeg, and their other friends are certainly not trained speech therapists or anything, but they get by. they do communicate largely with sign language just in general, though. its more comfortable in a lot of way.

Same anon as from before, first of all the tangets were wonderful and really nice to read so thank you <3 and second of all something i forgot to mention previously: TOMMY!!!! His whole "i don't think i want a girlfriend" was AMAZING and i really hope they come back to that at some point bc just,,,, watching them discover their identities and feelings just makes this so realistic and such an amazing read!! Also him just admitting to himself that yeah he finds Ranboo hot, 10/10 no notes <3

I'm going to go on a tangent now, sorry about that, but i think you do an amazing job of showing how complex aro relationships are and how much thought and consideration actually goes into them! I feel like sometimes aro relationships and/or QPRs are portrayed as,, sort of easy? Bc it's "friendship" or whatever? But like i've definitely spent time and thoughts on trying to figure out what i actually feel and what i want out of a relationship and even "what if this is actually romantic attraction" so it makes me feel so so so seen when those same themes are coming into play here! (No idea if you are planning on delving deeper into that but no matter what i'm really thankful for what we already got <3)

first of all YES absolutely coming back to that. tommy has always thought he needed to have a wife and kids one day as a way to like... prove himself better than his dad. like if he could be a good husband and father it would be proof that he was better than his dad and that he wasnt like... too "damaged" from his childhood. and realizing that he doesnt in fact want that is a really big thing for him that hes only now starting to deal with.and YEAH. let me. let me bring you back to one of my favorite winterlude lines (whjich. man im rereading that rn. because i forgot my own story. and bro how was i allowed to make them so god dam gay in that.)

"He pulled back, looking up at them. Their hair had fallen to almost entirely cover their face, so he tucked it back again, because he happened to think their face was quite nice. secondly, THANK YOU!! honestly i just try to write things that feel real to me. i do a TON of research for things i dont experience, but as an aroace person and someone in a lot of aroace spaces online, i just write what i know. i DO absolutely want to delve into it more, because the relationships are such a major part of drdi and all relationships are gonna be complex. especially the trio like... theyve all got trauma and shitty relationships in their past, and on top of that they're in what is becoming a very serious, committed relationship. theres gonna be lots of feelings and complexities and stuff. theyre also not all aroace which means theres varying feelings going into the relationship which certainly isnt BAD but it adds more! the trio's relationship is just very unique as QPRs often are!!! i am very excited to keep delving into all of that its gonna be so fun!!!
