Okay time for the Ihehshk and Pen lore I promised
I recently posted that my asks are open and that I'll be answering them with illustrated answers! In that post I shared an image featuring a Drathah character and a human character that I haven't shared before! So that's what this post is about! Those two and their lore and also their refs. For some context, there exist in my mind Two Time Points, from which various stories on Thardahk take place around. The one I visit more frequently, and from which I reference more of the events and story lines of Drathah history and individual character events, takes place in the year 1148 on Thardahk. It's the first point I thought of, the one I think about more often, the one during which more of my characters and stories take place around. For the Drathah it's a rather unassuming year, but a lot of things happen just before and just after. It's sort of the equivalent to 2019/2020 for us. Technically in the past, but a lot of shit happens so it doesn't feel like it, and during that time we had no clue what was headed our way. The other point in time is 1219, which is where Ihehshk and Penjani come in. 1219 is sort of Thardahk's sci-fi space age. Thardahk years are weird, so even though all the other characters are "only 70 years older" one Thardahk year is THREE human years, so actually over 200 human years have passed. (This is just reminding me I haven't talked about the Thardahk calender/times for things on here yet...) Earth and the human race are also highly advanced. I originally said earth was 500 years in the future, but I might change that to be less. Faster then light travel, planetary colonization, genetic modification, other advanced sciences and medicines, as well as a completely different political landscape. I haven't worked out all of the bits and world building for this time of the Drathah story, because as I mentioned it's pretty secondary to everything else. I like sci-fi but I struggle to write it. 1219 is sort of my fun playground compared to 1148's more serious story writing. It's for me to consider how humans might interact with the Drathah, and vice versa. It's for fun silly space stories.
But in order to explore these fun silly space stories, I need characters through which to explore them and tell them! And so Ihehshk and Pen were created! Ihehshk are both Astronaut/Scientist/Social ambassador folks! They're part of a human and drathah program, where various kinds of folks from both species hang out as essentially roommates, and teach each other about their languages, cultures, science and technology. They're sorta coworkers sorta roommates, but they are genuinely friends! Pen really likes talking about human cultures, and learning about Drathah fashion and holidays. Ihehshk really likes talking about history and learning about Earth's animals and human technology. Also yes, their height difference in the asks post is accurate. Pen is 5'10" (177.8cm), and Ihehshk is 7'10" (238.76cm). I'm realizing now, several hours later, that I forgot Pen's mole and piercings in the asks post.... sigh It always has to be AFTER you've posted it that you notice the obvious and easily avoidable mistake right???
Tumblr media
Please ignore almost all of the numbers on Ihehshk's reference. Those numbers are no longer cannon. The day and month of their birthday is still correct, but not the year. (Thardahk has 17 months. I promise I'll share the calendar publicly eventually......)
Tumblr media
Also here's a fullbody so your can see all of Ihehshk's patterns. 100% sfw and not even rude. The Drathah have way looser modesty customs and also no visible physical differences between sexes, and they're furry, like your dog, so yeah, sometimes if the weather's nice and they're just loungin about they don't wear clothes. Casual events might call for shorts. I forget if I've posted about this on here already.
So yeah!!! Those are my newest weirdos! If you're interested in learning more about them or the world they live in pop a question in my ask box! :D I'd love to draw them answering it!

Goblin Child
Tumblr media
Meet Kahgetah! (Kah jeh tah) Her name comes from the name Kanta, changed to fit Drath of course. Her parents are Tehge and Erdai. She's adopted. In the "timeline" of events she doesn't come around until one and a half Thardahk years after the Battle of Butting Horns. At my sort of "midpoint" on the story timeline her egg hasn't even been laid yet. She's dropped off at the capital camp where Erdai, Tehge, and all of their friends are staying, with a blanket and a basket but no note. No one has any clue where she came from, or how they managed to get into camp, which is relatively active 50 hours a day, 7-8 days a week, drop off a whole, hatched child, and leave without being noticed. They try to find a nursery to put her in, but the ones they can find are full from the war, and everything else is far away. Erdai and Tehge agree to look after her at first just because they have enough to keep her from going hungry or getting bored. They say as soon as a nursery opens up they'll send her to it cause the leaders of a brand new country, aka a coal miner turned revolutionary leader and the ex-heiress to a tyrannical empire, are not at all prepared to take care of a child, but with some time and tips from family and friends who have raised kids, they adjust to having her in their lives and wind up forgetting about sending her to a nursery. In that way she becomes a foster fail, and becomes a permanent member of their weird little eclectic family.
She's raised around family friends with war stories for days. Who have failing eyes and failing legs, yet can still spin a knife like it's a toy. Her cousins are royalty, and her aunts and uncles have coal stains that will never grow out. She's one of the few Drathah who will never meet her grandparents. She's raised in cozy, cramped tents and temporary homes well into her teen months. She's taught how to throw a punch first and how to be kind second. Her upbringing is weird, but she winds up a good person. Because of it, or despite it, is up to interpretation.
As for more information on Drathlihgs: No, that is not how Drathlihgs are supposed to sit but the stars would have to come down from the sky itself and make her stop doing it. Drathlihgs come out of their eggs as these wet, wrinkly, peach fuzz covered grubs. Kahgetah is about 4 Thardahk months old here, and she's well into the phase where she learns she has limbs and can use them to get into shenanigans. She's kind of skinny for a Drathlihg, part of it's just her body biology, part of it is being raised in an ex-war camp, in a brand new and recovering country, by very busy parents, part of it's the fact that she's VERY active for her age. She does still have some chub on her tail and around her middle though. Drathlihgs start out pretty chubby, largely in the legs and torso, with plenty on the tail and arms. As they start to get mobile though, (Crawling, running, jumping, they're sort of like puppies, quadrupedally fully ambulatory), they burn the fat around their legs and arms, then as they really grow at the start the process of transitioning to bipedalism it starts to become muscle mass around their legs, as well as their arms once they start to carry stuff and use tools and furniture, and they fill out again, with their mass redistributing. Kahgetah is definitely in the weird gangly popsicle stage here, though she was always gangly and will remain gangly for her whole life. She hits 9'6" (2.8m) at 2 years old (adult aged) and upsets her 8'1" and 8'3" (2.5m) parents. Part of learning to use your limbs when you're a sapient, technologically advanced species, is learning how to use your hands. Part of the problem when it comes to raising Kahgetah is that she's part of the population with a prehensile tail, and the tail is so much easier to use then her hands, so getting her to Actually Use Her Hands, and not her tail, is a big problem in her toddler years. It gets better once she learns to talk and can be bribed with treats or her favorite game. She is a frequent thief of the Drathah equivalent of a cookie jar. (No I haven't world built for the Drathah equivalent of a cookie jar yet.) All 4 of her ears do work, but both ears on one sides lead to the same set of internal ear bits, and her bottom ears only really hear her hair because of how they flop. I imagine when she's older she actually plugs the bottom set so she doesn't have to keep hearing her hair, and pulls them along with her hair to keep them out of the way. Her wings also grow big enough for her to use. That's a fun nightmare for her flightless parents. Trying to teach their kid to fly without getting her killed. Like, most of this information is gonna mean absolutely nothing to most people. Just know she's the equivalent of those fanfic OC kids you give to your favorite OTP as part of your AU future fix-it fic. The Bobby of Juno Lazylittledragon's Steddie AU if you will. (https://www.tumblr.com/lazylittledragon)
I tried to channel Mayday Parker of the Across The Spiderverse Trailer for this little kreatur ngl TL:DR-She's a horrid little goblin who I love.

Ask Spec Bio Questions Get Spec Bio Answers
Tumblr media
Asks have been open, I just haven't talked about them! So I'm gonna now! And introduce some new characters and lore and fun interactions all at once because I don't know what the concept of pacing is.
I'm now doing Illustrated Answers for Asks regarding the Drathah and Thardahk! Wanna know something about the world? Ask and yee shall receive! (Though depending on what it is the answer I give you may be Made Up On The Spot, or just while I'm working on drawing the answer for it.)
The above characters are Ihehshk and Pen! I'll be sharing a lore post for them in a minute! Most of the asks will be answered by them, from their year on the timeline, but some asks may better fit older characters from previous art and posts, which is technically Drathah History. Tbh these asks are outside of canon and time. I can do whatever I want with them.
Rules for Asks: - Please be polite and patient! I'm working a lot while I try to save up for college, and I have the Neurospicy, so it might take me a couple days, but I promise I'm thinking about it and working on it! - You can ask about heavier/adult topics, but PLEASE be tactful and considerate about it! I'm not going to answer asks that are just gross, and I will be approaching these as safely as possible and tagging the hell out of them. I have no qualms about reporting or blocking people. - If you're asking a specific character a question, please state who you're asking, if you don't know their name, you can absolutely describe them, who knows, maybe I'll get a kick out of your description. - Abusing Anon will get Anon privileges revoked. Don't do it. Don't be an asshole. - You're also free to ask me, (Gale, the creator) questions if you want!

[Image ID. A three panel sketch comic. First panel, Tehgeaier sits at her desk doing paperwork. Kahgetah, from off screen, says "Ehgeeh! Ehgeehehgeehehgeeh!". Tehgeaier says "Yes Kahgetah what is it?" Second panel, a one Thardahk year old Kahgetah holds up a snakefly, a creature that looks like a snake with wings. Her hands and arms are covered in bites. She says "I caught a snakefly!". The animal is upset and angry but unharmed and nonvenomous. The third panel features Tehgeaier staring at her daughter in silence and shock. The style has suddenly changed to small, chibi and derpy, and they're both doodled tiny in comparison to the size of the panel. End image ID.]
Thinking about Kahgetah again.
I love this gremlin child.
I also keep thinking about how
She's not even a main character like
She's literally just a ship's future kid
She's not even related to them
She's supposed to be like
Part of their epilogue. Part of their happy ending. Their future together when they weren't sure they'd be allowed to have one.
Yet here I am thinking about the shenanigans she gets up to. How she keeps her parents on their toes.
Thinking about her future and her story and how she interacts with the world after the war as the kid of two of the most influential figures in the new world.
Her parents and their trauma and how that affects her and how she lives in the world they built for her.
Anywho I'm in my thoughts and feels about her.
And she wasn't even supposed to be a serious character.
Seems to be the theme for her family X'D
Also enjoy the introduction of a new Thardahk creature: The Snakefly. Essentially just a snake with wings with similarities to the common land animal predecessor on Thardahk.
They're usually arboreal insectivores, but they can be large and slow opportunistic eaters, or small and light ambush predators. There's even a couple carnivore and herbivore specialists. They also have cousins that have small legs that are terrestrial and aquatic and akin to salamanders.
Also thank you Tumblr tags for making actually search snakefly and discovering Snakeflies are An Actual Real Life Earth Bug Thing That Already Exists
So expect an actual name for these creatures the next time I draw them.

To Be A Daughter
A little poem I wrote for Tehgeaier
I don't write poems very often, I'm very much not a words guy, writing normally is hard enough. But my musical brain loves making patterns with word sounds so occasionally I dabble in poetry and song lyrics And apparently the juice wanted to write a poem today.
CW: Violence/gore on one line, as well as vague themes of war and the cycle of abuse.
Read the whole poem under the cut.
Daughter of the tyrant king, what do your damp eyes see? You've seen his wrath and heard his hate, yet you yearn for his same fate. You've had your world turned upside down, and known the fire behind his frown. Yet still you vie for his attention, despite his fumes and condescension.
Daughter of the deceased king, wear your crown of vict'ry green. You tore his throat with your own hands, now you are the leader of these lands. You stand tall, your friends by your side, and now you must learn to provide, to fill the holes in your society, like he left scars on your propriety,
Daughter of the long dead king, how does it feel to be at peace? Your skin covered in memories, from your ears to your extremities. You no longer have to live in violence, so go on and smell the violets, and know your daughter, another princess, will never have to live with anything worth less, then unconditional love.
Tempted by the idea of maybe turning this into a Drathah folk song. Translating it, making a tune for it. Maybe getting my guitar and piano playing cousins to do accompaniments for it. We'll see though. That'd be a lot of work but I think it'd be fun. If anyone is/knows a musically inclined person who'd like to help me with this endeavor (with financial compensation of course I'm not a jackass) please lmk cause the longer I think about the more I want to do it.
I'm thinking Paris Paloma's Labour or Hozier vibes. Folk song but dripping with generational and feminine rage.
