Romantic Headcanons for Bard Reader with BG3 Companions
Tumblr media
Astarion
Well, won’t you be the easy target? What could be easier to seduce than a bard? Honestly, he probably could just wait for you to try to seduce him first. Too easy. At least that’s how he thinks about it at first.
It’s not hard to choose you to seduce, of course, not only are you capable and competent, you also provide a little taste of civilization and creature comforts in the way of making camping more pleasant. Your music and aesthetic skills are the sort of luxuries Astarion loves to indulge in whenever he can.
In some ways he’s a little more guarded with his feelings around you, at least to start with. Bards have a reputation, and he finds your company just so pleasurable, that he realizes how easy it may be for him to slip. So until he is forced to confide in you, you’ll find he defaults to flowery praise of your talents as a tactic to avoid having any meaningful discussions.
When he does have to actually let you in, the thing he feared, being connected meaningfully with you proves to be almost immediate. After all, he just enjoys you so much. You’re fun. When you accept him for all the struggles, he finds himself vulnerable in a way that he may actually enjoy. He quickly becomes more willing to have these conversations with you.
While playing your music in camp, you’ll often spot him just watching you with the most lovely smile on his face.
Shadowheart
Shadowheart distrusts you, well, she trusts you initially because she has no choice, but she’s aware you have expert skills in deception. Something she herself trades heavily in, and that being the case, she knows she has to be careful taking you at your word. She does respect you for it though, she respects a well executed lie more than anyone.
Actions help her trust you, but honestly what really does it is being on the same side of the deceptions. She often finds herself fancying you as a partner in crime of sorts, you two having the same interests and needs has made you someone she can count on.
She doesn’t seem interested in your music at first, in fact, she’s often hanging in her tent while you are playing for everyone else. She can hear it from there, and does very much enjoy it. Just privately.
Once you two are on the path to romance together, though, you’ll find she’s the first to ask you to start playing. It’s one of the rare things that gets her happily interacting with the rest of the team.
She’ll tease you for it, but she does genuinely love the songs you write for her. Especially if they’re dark and mysterious sounding, it makes her feel understood and flattered. But to reiterate, she won’t actually tell you that. You’ll just have to realize it from the look on her face as you perform for her.
Gale
Gale finds himself smitten by you quite quickly, as a matter of fact. He’s a verbose man, and there’s few skills outside of magic that he respects as much as verbal cleverness.
So he quickly seeks you out during the evenings at camp for stimulating dialogue. You’ll likely have to endure quite a bit of him prattling endlessly about his passions, but if you engage with him on those subjects enthusiastically, he falls hard.
He may come off condescending about your magic at first, he kind of is, but the more he hears of your experiences the more impressed he is with what it is to you. For you magic is your art, it’s an expression of passion, skill, and freedom. He finds that so very charming.
He’s a bit shy at first sharing his poetry with you, more so than he’d be with others. Afterall, you’re sort of an expert on such matters. In the same breath, your approval of his work carries so much more weight. You’ll never see his chest puff out with so much pride as you do when you tell him you like one of his poems.
The next several he writes are all about you.
Lae’zel
Lae’zel finds you frivolous at first, and why would she not? She’s carving through the enemy with blades while you play an instrument.
It doesn’t take her long to figure out just how talented and useful in fights you are though. Be you casting a quick spell to patch up an ally, or rendering your opponents weak with a well delivered insult.
In fact your devastating burns are the thing she may find most appealing about you. You can do with a few well chosen words what others have to do with weapons. That’s a skill she doesn’t take lightly.
It’s this that causes her to reassess all your talents she’d deemed worthless to begin with. The way your fingers pluck at a lute speak to a dexterity and an expert level of skill. While she may not appreciate music the way others do, she often finds herself watching you play with admiration for your well honed craft.
She’ll tell you as much when she’s trying to entice you into sex, she’s always quick to highlight your talents as proof of your worthiness.
Wyll
Before there’s even the hint of feelings caught on either side, Wyll makes it known he’s very much a fan of your work. And that means the music, the magic, the skills, all of it. You’re a person that has a solution to almost every problem, and that’s something truly special about you. You’ll get no bard jokes from him.
He finds himself quickly picturing adventures with you. Imagine the tales of a bard and the Blade of the Frontiers! It’s just so easy to see a future with you where the two of you ride off into the sunset, righting wrongs and saving the day.
He actually finds himself nervous of your response when Mizora turns him, wondering if that could jeopardize that wonderful future with you. Your acceptance of his new form means more than anyone else’s.
In fact he feels similarly about the dancing, a bard's disapproval of his skills would cut so much deeper than anyone else’s. You are worth the risk though.
Karlach
Finally, someone to actually perform the music for her dances. She adores you the second you first catch her dancing and immediately pull out your instrument for her. It even encourages her to test out new dances to see what songs you supply in response to them.
You are her fun, you are the lightness and the joy that she so desperately thrives on while dealing with such horrific circumstances. In that way, you’re her safety from the misery.
Whenever you two are connecting and discussing those horrific things, she always asks you to play a nice song when she’s ready to move on from the subject. When you do, the softness in her eyes make her affection for you all the more obvious.
She’s very defensive of your instruments, she won’t let anyone in camp touch them when you aren’t around. She’s sweet about it. But firm.
Her favorite moments in camp are when everyone’s around the campfire while you play your music and laughs are easy. Those will be the moments she turns to when she handles her most trying moments.
Halsin
Halsin makes it clear very quickly how highly he thinks of your musical abilities, especially since it’s something he lacks. He’s quick to thank you for songs you play, and he always stops what he’s doing to listen and enjoy your music.
In fact, he finds the most beautiful and romantic moments between the two of you to be when you take your instrument for nature walks. He loves to find a place to sit and enjoy nature, as well as your talents. He could honestly do that for hours, especially if you’re cuddled up beside him while playing.
He’s just as impressed by your charm and magical talents. He loves watching your games of verbal chess in situations, and is honestly just so impressed with how much you can accomplish with your wit alone.
He’s probably the one that first most respects and values what bards are truly capable of, and he considers you a fine tribute to the profession. He has fewer preconceived notions about bards and their antics, and as such you find it easy to simply be yourself around him.

In June I'm planning to do an art event where I draw other people's queer D&D (Pathfinder, Monster of the Week, any other TTRPG) characters every weekday. However, for that I will NEED people's queer characters.
Let me say one thing off the bat. If you have a character that fits that bill, I want to hear from you. If you think "oh there'll already be so many people, I don't want to cause trouble and make OP even more overwhelmed", then rest assured that I am perfectly capable of saying no. (And also, most commonly my problem has been that I didn't have ENOUGH options, rather than too many.)
If I have PREVIOUSLY drawn your character, get in touch with me. I'll want to make a list, of people I can contact for this; plus, if there's any changes to the character design, whether things that happened in-game or things you think would look better, I can update stuff.
If I have NOT previously drawn your character, get in touch with me, I'd like to get as much stuff sorted out ahead of time as possible, or at least get some names of people who are interested. If you're not sure, message me anyways. But if you'd feel uncomfortable messaging someone without knowing more, here's what I can think of off the top of my head:
I'm not going to draw your BG3 character. That doesn't count as a TTRPG, it's a computer game (albeit based on D&D).
You know what DOES count as a TTRPG though? A random one-shot you played of a 200-word RPG that's the game equivalent of a shitpost. (And also like, more normal games, those also count; I'm just making the point that characters you've played in weird indie games are allowed too.)
You don't need to have visual reference of your character, or even necessarily know what your character looks like; I can work out "what does this character actually look like" with you, it's fun for me to do.
It's also fine if you already have visual reference of your character, or if you already have artwork of them. If I meant "I'll draw your character only if your character has never been drawn before", I would say so; and I have indeed said it before, for different instances (not this one).

BG3: Flesh wound Pairing: Dark Urge/Minthara Warnings: Dark Urge who leans into it, so... blood/gore imagery, eroticism of violence, meaty descriptions, that sort of thing lol Word Count: 588 whoops Prompt: write a little snippet (300-500 words) where your character is... wound-tending their closest friend/RO
Nimble spider-light fingers creep under your armor, feeling for the warmth of your crimson blood that you are almost certain oozes beneath your gambeson. The moan that escapes you when her fingertips inadvertently dig into your ragged gaping flesh is more erotic than pained.
"Contain yourself," she hisses, sharp as the serrated dagger you'd wrenched from your side. But you see the twitch in her lips as she begins unstrapping your bloodied plate mail to examine it further.
Tension in the air thickens as Astarion's gaze focuses on you, drawn in by the shameless indulgence of your chummed scent. Gale averts his eyes. You aren't certain whether it's out of respect or nausea. The wizard has never been fond of the parts of battle you revel in, thin skinned and soft stomached despite his knack for Weave-wrought carnage.
But Minthara ignores them completely. Her hands work swift and business-like, her beautiful blood red gaze narrowed with focus as she strips your top half down to your naturally pallid flesh. Her fingertips trace the edge of the wound, pulling another soft sigh from your bloodied lips that makes her smile just a little. She leans in close, eyes falling closed as she inhales deeply of your gore.
"Flesh wound. It missed the bowel," she determines with the certainty of one who is intimately familiar with such reek. You wonder just how many guts she's spilled along her life to become such an expert, and your pulse quickens hot with want. "We will not need the cleric."
"Just another scar then," you murmur softly as her hand begins to glow, imbued by the power of her vows despite her lack of deity. You're tempted to tell her to leave it so you can enjoy the sweet pain later, but you've still much distance left to travel to reach Baldur's Gate. And who knows how many more ambushes you might face along the way.
"Indeed."
Her other hand traces the myriad scars on your belly. You'd spent nights lying awake, fantasizing about what battles you'd fought to attain such art upon your skin. The truth had been far more nauseating, even to your warped sensibilities. A necromancer's ill-gotten toy, cut open to play with again and again. Your eyes fall closed as you embrace the memory of strangling her with her own innards, retribution for her days buried in yours. You long to do the same to the one who put you in the state that allowed such things and stole half your vision.
The wound on your side itches perversely as Minthara heals it, pulling you back from your reminiscence. You stare down at her with your one good eye, taking in her hardset eyes and mouth, fierce with determination. Healing does not come as naturally to her as it does Shadowheart, but she refuses to fall short.
She withdraws with a satisfied nod, your flesh knit back together with a thin marled scar the only evidence of the wound.
"Thank you," you say softly, your thumb wiping someone else's blood from the corner of her mouth. You taste it, her salt and their iron and you hum softly in appreciation.
She rolls her eyes, but you see the faint color in her cheeks. "You should be more mindful of your blind spot," she criticizes, but the undercurrent of concern makes you smile as you re-don your armor.
As your group begins to move out once again, she falls into step at your left flank, because she knows you won't.

get to know you better game! answer the questions and tag 9 people you want to know better. tagged by @galahadiant
last song I listened to: Incandescent Ruins - The Mountain Goats!
currently reading: finishing up Flannery O'Connor's short stories, a historical nonfiction overview for work research, Victoria Goddard's At The Feet of The Sun, Blood and Ash series (IT'S SO BAD. HOLY SHIT. it's for hater bookclub and is probably the worst thing ive ever read), FMA manga, James Baldwin's Notes from a Native Son, Fun Home
(i always have a zillion things on the go and switch between as the mood strikes)
currently watching: nothing?? i dont really watch tv ;-; i put on critical role when crafting if that counts? technically I ave snk, the bear, and the untamed all on the go, but i watch VERY sporadically, mostly just when im too sad to read or play video games, which i prefer to tv
currently obsessed with: when am i NOT obsessed with something? I dont think I really 'get over' obsessions, inasmuch as they enter the ever growing rotation in my heart, and everyday it's a wild guess what will get me super emotional. in 2024 thus far it's been: Sad Russian Man Simulator Pathologic, Pentiment (video game), BG3, Under Jurisdiction Book 1 by Susan R Matthews*
.
.
*this is NOT a rec. omg. this is not a book most people would enjoy. it is super graphic and violent and deliberately horrifying and uncomfortable. i loved it. it very much asks questions and explores themes at the intersections of all my interests - submission to Duty vs. Authority, questions of loyalty and devotion even to a 'bad' person, mercy and justice to 'bad' people, being worthy of care regardless, questions of autonomy and dehumanization and what does choice really mean when you are not free?, facing the monster of the self and refusing to hide from it and acknowledging the terrible thing you are, questions of responsibility, duty and care of a Master over his servants, and man to man, family angst, religious angst, what does the ends and the means really mean when it's harm reduction? when it's doing something unspeakably awful to prevent something even worse?
THAT BEING SAID. it is still like. a book about a doctor who is forced against his will to become a government sanctioned torturer in an evil space empire. and to his disgust and horror he realizes he's a sadist. he's not only /good/ at it, some part of him /enjoys/ it. and he has to live with that knowledge, that burden, that guilt. Andrej is Not A Nice Man, by any means, but maybe, MAYBE, he can try to be a good one, or as good as circumstances permit. im compelled by this exploration of things so horrifying. we cannot look away from the horrors. cannot refuse to ask the difficult questions. and art is just. the place for that exploration of things too terrible to stomach irl

I was tagged in "9 people you'd like to get to know better" by @syntheticmortal so herewego.jpg
3 ships: Tadfools polycule 🧠 (BG3), Imogen/Laudna 🌩💀 (Critical Role C3), Niko/Liam 🩸⚔ (shaydh's WoDsquad)
First ship: probably Jareth/Sarah from Labyrinth, but the first one I made art about was self insert OC/Murdoc from Gorillaz. In early high school I used to draw shitty little comics of myself and the band, and show them to anyone who expressed a modicum of interest. Some of them were way too spicy to be doing that. 😶
Last song: had this one on repeat while I was finishing chapter 7 of HFWN 😈
Last film: Blade (1998), which I gave my thoughts on here. 😎
Currently reading: I don't read enough books to have a "current" but the last novel I finished was The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix (very good, highly recommend) and I have recently cracked open both the D&D 5e PHB and the NWOD Carthians source book for reference. 📚
Currently craving: McNaldo's cheeseburber
Fav colour: I literally can never choose just one, they're all so beautiful. Black is usually my go-to but she's at her best when complimented by a nice blue or red... or purple, or green... or -- look, you get it. 🎨
Relationship status: blissful long-term partnership with my lovely sweet Greek boy Bear (name and descriptor). He is also my full-time carer! We are both bisexual 💖💜💙
Last google search: I use Duckduckgo on mobile, but on desktop it was "eye contact synonym" #justwriterthings 👁👄👁
Current obsessions: Assorted vampires (does it count if it's a perma-obsession?) 🧛‍♀️ / The Emperor BG3 🦑 / the music in my Spotify likes 📻
Tagging @virginiaisforhaters @abearirl @haunted-skitty-doll @mephal @lazareneblessing @heywizards @meatcrimes @faneth @witchknightblack and anyone else who wants to do one!

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Thank you for the tag @iamstartraveller776 !
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 11
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 127,389
3. What fandoms do you write for? LOTR: The Rings of Power, Baldur's Gate 3, and The Night Circus
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
run through the forest (settle before the sun): you get more than you bargained for when you stumble upon a little cottage after getting lost in the Wood [BG3, Halsin/Reader, dark fairy tale au]
The Venus of Valinor: Galadriel has her work cut out for her covering up that her family's art collection is fake. When too much interest threatens to expose her secret, she enlists rakish thief Halbrand's help. [LOTR: TROP, Haladriel, modern-ish art heist au]
meet me at the edge: Nobody talks much about the Noldor family anymore. Like saying any of their names aloud will bring their misfortune down upon the speaker: a lesson to be learned, a warning to be issued, a curse to be conjured. [LOTR: TROP, Haladriel, prairie gothic horror au]
sharp as a razor, sweet as honeysuckle: The fic where Galadriel's a professional barrel racer on the rodeo circuit, Hal's a washed up bull rider running a honky tonk, and they're both idiots in love. [LOTR: TROP, Haladriel, modern rodeo au]
My Way or the Highway: Workplace rivals Galadriel and Halbrand are sent on a business trip to meet with a reclusive client. The trip does not go according to plan. [LOTR: TROP, Haladriel, modern roadtrip au]
5. Do you respond to comments? I try to! I'm not always prompt, and sometimes I don't have the bandwidth. But I really really really appreciate every one I get, and I hoard them like a weird little dragon.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I don't really do angsty endings, but I guess Missed Connections? There's a good chance I'm going to expand on that one this year, but where it stands now I'd say it's angsty.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I guess run through the forest? That's the one that probably comes closest to a HEA ending. But I'm also partial to the ending of sharp as a razor.
8. Do you get hate on fics? Once, on a 100 word drabble. It was a bizarre experience.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yessss. I tend to write the E variety, and it often has an... energetic quality to it, we'll say. But I like smut that reveals something about the characters, either to themselves or to each other or just to the reader.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Nope. Not really something I'm super interested in doing, either.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? No, but that would be very cool.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not yet...
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? I feel like I shouldn't say Haladriel because it's too obvious, but I'm also astounded that I'm still here and the brainrot has somehow only gotten worse.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Oof, I really hope I finish all my WIPs. I do have a Haladriel Western AU that I've been working on for a year (?) now, though, that feels like it'll never be done. (Different from meet me and sharp as a razor if anyone's wondering, and yes, I realize that means I had/have 3 western/western adjacent au's. Stop looking at me like that.)
16. What are your writing strengths? I think I'm pretty good at scene setting and atmosphere. And creating a clear sense of space through description and action/movement.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? I struggle with articulating the emotional pay off in big scenes. And endings! Endings are rough! Let me just stew in the atmosphere for 40k with no end in sight.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I've used a little Quenya and Sindarin here and there, but I'm not comfortable enough with any other languages to use them extensively in fic.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Rings of Power is the first fandom I've ever really finished or shared anything in. I dabbled a bit in some other fandoms years ago, but nothing ever saw the light of day. I'll forever be grateful to this fandom for getting me writing for fun again.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? Ooo, that's hard. They've all been my favorite at one point or another. Right now, I'd have to say A Lust for Light, the fic I wrote for the most recent Haladriel Exchange is top of the list. I'm so so so proud of how that one turned out.
No pressure tagging: @nocaptainonthisship @lisenberry @liminal-zone @conundrumoftime @wyrd-syster @myrsinemezzo @the-sweet-hibiscus @klynnvakarian @jhalya @stitchingatthecircuitboard @hazelmaines and anyone else you wants to play!

Currently Watching: Does "Yakuza Like a Dragon" count? It's pretty story-heavy as is.
Three Ships:
1) Dark Urge/Enver Gortash (BG3) Love their canon toxicity and irredeemable qualities that make them perfect for each other and what their dynamic might've been based on in-game tidbits here and there.
2) Marianne/ Bog King (Strange Magic) Watched it as a kiddo and Bog lowkey awakened smth in me about the kind of fictional men I hyper-fixate on.
3) James T. Kirk / Spock (Star Trek) Such a good dynamic between the two and adored how they complemented each other even in a platonic sense.
Favorite Color: Mainly neutral tones except for bright, eye-straining red.
Currently Consuming: A monster energy drink
