the way i loathe the concept of Starkiller base so much. its Death Star but Bigger.
i know they already have death star 2 — in the original trilogy but i despise the concept of planet killing weapons so much. Especially in Star Wars because it feels like it has absolutely no personal consequence to anyone.
Its like how in the 100 that dude committed another genocide and it was just nothing, it was just a narrative device to get them to the plot they need. the lives were nothing and its the same thing in the sequel trilogy, the moment they did that in the force awakens i was instantly and immediately tired. because it just confirmed for me that the force awakens was nothing but a copy and paste of ‘a new hope’. even killing han wasn’t anything new.
it was such a boring move.
look at our new death star! it can destroy TWO planets a system away!!!
yeah? and?
there’s nothing inventive with bigger guns.
it just made every narrative happy ending worked on from the prequels to the sequels a cynical loop of tragedy.
my dislike of the prequels was instant but at least the prequels LED to something and had a plan, my dislike for the sequel trilogy is slow simmering and long because it feels like a cynical cash grab, they started a whole ass trilogy without any plan. they thought they could marvel movie it, or fix things in post. but there was no coherent vision in the sequels. just whatever the current director wanted.
they (the disney lucasfilm producers) wasted the talents of actors and worse didn’t even stand up and protected them and made things worse for the actors because of their own ineptitude.
i deeply disliked the prequels but, at least, i respected that it had a vision and a story it wanted to tell across three movies.
the original golden trio didn’t even get to have one scene together and now they never will, what a waste.
tldr i think star killer base is emblematic of all my problems about the sequel trilogy. its not a new idea, its not even a new idea with a surprising and exciting twist. its just bigger.
the worse part of the sequel trilogy is the potential it squandered and how, its made me less enthusiastic about rey’s upcoming movie. because i don’t trust the cinematic side of this franchise anymore. for all my problems with the TV side, i vastly prefer it to the movie side.

They managed to steer clear of upsetting, depressing topics. Han had brought his sabacc deck, and they learned that Kell, who’d attended university on Corellia, was better at Corellian Spike than Leia or Chewie.
“I notice Kell isn’t being accused of cheating,” Leia mused, recalling their first flight to the Indoumodo outpost.
Han held up his hands defensively. “I didn’t really know who I was dealin’ with back then. Didn’t know you could bluff any more than I knew you could throw a knife.”
Leia gestured toward herself in disbelief. “Literally a double agent.” She exchanged an amused look with Wedge. “Antilles knows. He can vouch for my skills.”
“Oh, I can vouch for plenty now,” Han quipped.
“Skywalker could probably use some bluffing lessons,” Wedge said. “He’s an absolute disaster just ordering food if we’re on a mission.”
Luke glared at him. “Very funny. No one’s suspected anything so far.”
“You told someone your name was Starkiller,” Varner said.
Luke bristled, cheeks tinged pink. “It’s my alias.”
“Luke,” Leia groaned. “Who approved that alias?”
“We have to get them approved?”
“Well, now you’ll have to,” Han muttered.
“You’re just asking for someone to make a connection between Luke Skywalker, killer of the Death Star and Starkiller.” She shook her head and patted his knee. “We’ll come up with something else for you.”
-----Purpose of Heritage - Chapter 7 -"Show Them"-----
(is it anywhere in canon or legends that Luke is terrible undercover, or did we all just collectively decide that that must be the case?)

This is an annoying thing and your fire John reward,we're coming after you. I'll see if you would behave my children but you are a child it should be easy so I'm going to do that. This guy is a slippery as hell no he is backing from Tommy f he thinks it's really not healthy but it's what's going on and the guy put him up there in the January 6th trial to try and blame him for what he was doing well see but it looks like his guys so the idiot thinks it was him self I've never been hurt over and see the idiot show of this nature in my life it is so rich with stupid crap it's intense it's so dumb and that's what our son was saying it is full of so much stupid weird stuff it's just suspicious beyond any level and you look at what they're doing is that it is on the one side miracle the other and Max and and then the clothes, and writing the stuff alone is annoying somethin we are at high alert and these people are massively annoying so I want the high alert to affect these people the way it should they're not giving reason to see the people who are ordering us to die ever and our son has been screaming it as for a year you cannot do this you cannot leave them in my face you cannot leave them screaming and squanching and belching it is treason and I'm going to say it too we're going to find people who are encouraging us to leave it there you cannot do it you can't do it anymore there's too much at stake there's not enough people in the military okay we need to talk to people who are holding us off all the time and we're going to open up those lines today.
We've got a lot going on here and our son is still sickly and injured and the oxygen levels are going up he's getting headaches and they won't stop bothering him something has to give and I don't want it to be him let's get together and meet on what to do. We have tons and tons of people here and only more are going to come in and we need to do things not just sit there and listen to it. And we have a lot of construction projects and that's what I'm talking about and they are huge some of them in Florida for Florida the Giant and we're going to get a lot of scrutiny and a lot of talk and we'll be the news we think and we need to be ready for that. And we also need to think about what to do with these idiots and about what to do about them being just placed because they're going to be out shortly and we need to figure out exactly what to do and we have a plan but let's get the whole thing together. No matter what the guy next door needs to leave and they're holding the contract off even though they're there so I want them out now I'm going to run to plan to get rid of them. They're trying to go to Calgary and they can't and the max suggested it so laser and you see it going off yes the morlock have detected it, and they're going after it and they make a few incursions, finally with the predators they go in and take it over and then hit the death stars it's happening pretty soon it's huge armies are up there fighting them. Yeah we think it's a momentarily not long from now. It's going to be a reckoning after this starkiller incident because Trump is going to realize it's mostly the clones the whole time. Because if you say it over and over after they hit it and they hit the death stars, and yeah they make a mistake firing it and fried themselves a lot of them died completely sometimes partially it's gross. But the clothes start raining on them and say that the death stars were obsolete and more or less were but they packed a punch and they stayed around the whole War those people didn't want to get hit by them. But the clothes keeps asking him afterwards and attacking him and attacking BjA Non-Stop. Without taking a breath and it's going on shortly too we have records that say that the clones cut the guys in half again the morllock are cut in half because of this star killer base. Huge events occur because of it. Including War of the worlds which hasn't even started yet cuz you can't get near Calgary and they don't know about this weapon. And we are going to help make it happen and we're going to watch it and we're going to make sure it goes along and as we want. And there's a couple of death stars left and they are abandoned and there's a couple more pieces they found and they try to access them and end up destroying them.

How does the Death Star move through space?
It’s iconic, I love it, I wouldn’t have it any other way, but it’s really funny to me that something so big can just zip from star system to star system like any other spaceship.
Who drives the Death Star?
Does it have a bridge?
Are there thrusters along its circumference?
When someone pulls the little handle on the main console, does it go like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you want to get really stick-up-the-butt technical with “well actually” nerd minutiae, in canon regular ships can’t go to light speed if they’re too close to a planet because something something something gravity-well, and the Death Star is massive enough that it would have its own gravity well.
It doesn’t matter, I couldn’t care less, I just think it’s funny that there is almost certainly some long standing debate on the subject.  Some nerds probably wrote about it at length in a gamebook in the 80s, or on a web forum in the 90s, there’s probably a comic or a novel or an episode of a cartoon that explains it, as if THIS is the one thing that needs a canon explanation for the story to make sense.  There are major characters whose names are never said on screen, but Lucas forbid we gloss over how this planet destroying super weapon flies around.
Don’t even get me started on Starkiller Base

Hehe hi, I would cry if I could see you Star Wars AU with javid somehow?
You mean Jack and Davey as Poe and Finn because that should’ve been a relationship already and I’m one hundred percent going to write this like it was.
Star Wars AU — Javid
Tumblr media
Characters
Jack Kelly — Poe Dameron
David Jacobs — Finn
Racetrack Higgins — Rey
Spot Conlon — Kylo Ren
Medda Larkin — General Leia Organa
Todd Kloppman — Luke Skywalker
Bryan Denton — Han Solo
So, since this is specifically a request for Javid, this is mostly going to be focused on their relationship, but if you guys would like to read more about other characters or read a scene from any of this, just shoot me an ask (also, sorry I’m so behind on these asks. My brain has been going through a lot) and I will get to it as soon as I can!
Anyways…
On the desert planet of Jakku, Resistance pilot Jack Kelly is in search of a lost map leading to the disappeared Jedi, Todd Kloppman. Jack Kelly is the fastest pilot in the resistance.
While searching Jakku and finding a piece of the map to the missing Jedi, the planet is raided by First Order Stormtroopers. People are slaughtered easily and Jack tries to escape in his ship, only to be shot down and barely escape with minor injuries. He gives the map he found to his droid, an NY unit. NY-99.
The droid escapes. Jack isn’t so lucky.
Though he puts up a brave fight, even shooting with his blaster at Sidus Vis (yes I made that up), a very dangerous member of the Dark Side of the force, and while not known throughout the galaxy as a Sith, is skilled with a saber and with the force. As Jack shoots at him, Vis stops his blast in mid air and uses the force to trap the pilot until the stormtroopers can seize him and cuff him, forcibly dragging him onto the ship before Vis knocks him out completely and takes him to a Star Killer above the planet to interrogate him.
Meanwhile, a Stormtrooper out on his first mission makes a decision that could prove fatal to him. Down in Jakku as he watches the death and destruction around him and watches a pilot get captured to be tortured, he finds himself not understanding why he’s even holding a blaster at innocent people. He doesn’t shoot at all. Not even when they heard all of the villagers into the center of their army and were ordered to leave no living souls. He lowers his blaster.
Later, back on board the star destroyer, the Stormtrooper, DV-0511, is told to turn in his blaster for inspection. He knows he’ll be put back in training. The thing is, DV-0511 doesn’t want to live this life. And he knows of someone on board who just might be able and willing to help him.
On the other side of the ship, Jack is being brutally tortured. Throughout all of the pain he faces, he refuses to give up the location of the resistance or the new hiding place of the map to Todd Kloppman. That is, until Sidus Vis takes over the interrogation. He uses the force to literally get inside Jack’s mind very excruciatingly and pull the information out of him, getting the make, model and location of Jack’s droid and the map.
After getting this information, Vis takes off his helmet and “thanks” Jack for his cooperation, to which Jack responds “Anytime, Spottie,” very bitterly after seeing the small, circle like burns on Vis’s cheek.
After Jack is left alone, told he’d be executed in the next few hours, a lone Stormtrooper comes in and unlocks Jack’s bindings, telling him that he was here to break him out, however as Jack is able to read people very well, he sees the desperation in the stormtrooper’s eyes and deduces that he’s trying to escape too and he needs a pilot. DV-0511 doesn’t deny this.
Jack is led at gunpoint by this stranger that he has to trust to a tie fighter. DV-0511 questions his flight skills to which Jack responds that he can fly anything. The hit a small bump in the road when they fight the tie fighter is feathered down, but they manage to get away anyway with the stormtrooper shooting at those who try to follow them. Jack asks for the other man’s name, to which he responds, DV-0511. Jack says he won’t be calling any man by a number and states that he’d call him Davey instead.
Davey says he would very much like that before trying to instruct Jack to get out of the system. When Jack responds that they’d be going back to Jakku to retrieve a map to Todd Kloppman, Davey loses focus and they get shot down, crash landing on Jakku.
Davey wakes up and tries to rush back to the crash. All he manages to save is Jack’s jacket.
Disheartened by losing the only potential friend he’d ever had, Davey keeps the jacket, stripping off his uniform and making his way to the nearest village where he meets a feisty scavenger named Anthony. Anthony attacks him and accuses him of stealing a jacket from the master of a droid that he’d befriended.
Davey is tasked with telling NY-99 that his master is dead, but lies to Anthony about being a member of the resistance and attempts to help him escape from a group of stormtroopers sent to get their hands on the droid. In the end, it’s Anthony who ends up helping Davey escape in a junkyard where they find a ship Anthony calls garbage and take off in it as a last resort.
After escaping, Davey gets NY-99 to tell Anthony where The Resistance base is to keep his cover and they make their way to that system, meeting several people along the way, including Bryan Denton, an idol of Anthony’s who reveals to him that the ship they’d stolen is the Manhattan, the fastest ship in the galaxy.
Denton eventually takes them to another planet where Davey finally works up the courage to tell Anthony the truth and begs the kid he’s become close to to run away with him, but Anthony says he can’t.
Before Davey can leave the planet, losing track of Anthony and Denton and everyone else, the planet is attacked by the First Order and a lightsaber is shoved into his hands. He’s called a traitor, nearly killed before he’s saved by a pilot flying overhead who’s the fastest and most skilled pilot Davey has ever witnessed.
He sees Anthony get kidnapped and begs Denton to help him save the boy, so they are taken back to the Resistance base. There, Davey is greeted by a very familiar, cocky and healed up pilot, Jack Kelly, who rushes to him, pulls him into a hug and realizes that Davey looks amazing in his jacket that he thought he lost in the wreck.
Jack explains that he woke up in the sand, unable to see the ship or Davey and he found his way back here. He apologizes for leaving Davey behind and tells him it was a shame he lost such a pretty face. After Davey recovers from his flustered state, he asks Jack for help.
Jack and Miss Medda help devise a plan to save Anthony who ends up almost saving himself. Anthony and Davey find that Sidus Vis’s name is actually Sean and that he’s Denton’s son. And Sean kills his father right then and there, when he sees him.
And it kills him inside.
Anthony and Sidus Vis end up out on StarKiller Base, fighting with lightsabers and though Davey tries to help, he ends up getting hurt and Anthony has to knock Sean out and drag Davey back to the Manhattan.
Jack is leading a fleet trying to destroy StarKiller base before it gains enough energy to destroy the Resistance.
The Resistance flees and Jack rushes back to Davey who he has become attached to. He stays with him as he rests while Anthony goes off to Todd Kloppman and asks him to train him in the ways of the force.
Not long after these events occur, General Larkin leads the resistance in fleeing, as imperial ships are coming to wipe the last of them out. Jack, who is jumpy and aching to be placed in charge of something, leads a costly attack against the resistance against Medda’s orders. This attack does end well, but it gets Jack put under the watchful eye of another leader of The Resistance, though Jack insisted he be allowed to get in a ship and blow something up.
Eventually, Medda grants him permission, running low on fuel and options, to blow something up, though by that point it’s too late and they are being attacked. The First Order blows up a part of the ship, killing nearly every leader on board and nearly killing Medda who only barely manages to save herself with the force. Jack is horrified by this as he’s very close to Medda and he helps get her to safety before he rushes to Davey, who is still recovering a bit.
Jack hesitantly sends Davey out with Katherine, a mechanic, on a mission to disable the tracker Jack knows is being used to track them through jumps. Jack has to sneak them out as the standing general seems to have alternative motives for getting them to safety and seems to see other people as disposable.
After Davey and Katherine leave, Jack attempts to lead a mutiny, only ending up getting stunned and held prisoner by Medda herself who tells him he’s not quite ready to be a leader yet.
Davey and Katherine manage to get captured while attempting to complete their mission only to later escape and meet what’s left of the resistance back on the planet Crait where there’s an abandoned base, but the quickly get cornered and Katherine attempts to attack, leading Jack and Davey to follow on speeders and buy them some time. Katherine ends up getting hurt trying to keep Davey from getting himself killed and he and Jack manage to save her and take her back to safety where the fleet realizes they have to run.
They try to find some kind of exit only to be met with Anthony, who clears a path for them and helps them escape.
A while after these events occur, Jack and Davey are out on a mission where the Manhattan gets fairly damaged and Anthony, or as Jack has come to call him, “Racer”, is not happy with this in the least, but at the first sight of NY-99, who stayed behind with Anthony, the two hotheads break out into a fight that Davey has to break up and Race makes fun of Davey angrily for how he loves to put his hand on Jack’s chest to calm him down.
After they all calm down, Anthony eventually finds that they need to depart on another mission to Pasaana. (I don’t know these movies as well as I know the originals so they won’t be quite as detailed). According to the now deceased Todd Kloppman’s notes, a wayfinder can lead them to the location of Emperor Snyder, who has somehow managed to survive. They go to find this wayfinder, but Spot, as they’ve all begun calling him, creates a connection with Anthony to find his location and comes to hunt him down.
With the help of an old friend of Denton’s, Race, Jack and Davey manage to escape, finding a clue to the location of the wayfinder after they all get sucked down into quicksand. Jack falls first and he manages to catch Davey and then Race. Jack is determined to be the leader but is continuously outshined by Race who finds that he can use the force to heal a monster they find in the cave they get trapped in for a moment.
When they try to make their way back to The Manhattan, a First Order Fleet attacks and captures Denton’s old friend and Sidus Vis and Race get into a battle, trying to use the force to stop the ship that’s flying away with him. The ship explodes when Anthony accidentally shoots a lightning bolt from his hand.
After all of this, the group discovers that the dagger they found has an ancient language that they need translated. Jack sighs and admits that he knows where to go. Realizing they don’t know much about Jack’s past, Race and Davey find that Jack used to be a spice runner and Jack gets very defensive when they start to ask questions. He ends up finding them a droidsmith to help reset one of their droid's memories so it can read the message out to them. Since the message was written out in an ancient Sith language, the droid was forbidden from translating it.
After they translate the message, Race senses that Denton’s old friend is still alive and Davey and Jack get captured trying to save him. When they are taken for execution, Jack asks what Davey had been trying to tell Race earlier. Davey starts arguing with him and asking if this is the best time and Jack rolls his eyes, asking him if he was supposed to wait till later and they start bickering as the General behind them raises a gun to their heads, eventually prompting Davey to give into his own urges and kiss Jack passionately, believing that they were both going to die, only for the general to kill the stormtroopers behind them and admit that he was the spy they’d been in contact with for months now.
Now that they’re both very confused and flustered, Jack and Davey run back to escape on The Manhattan and don’t say a word about what happened, eventually getting back to Race.
Race goes to get the wayfinder from the Endor system, on the remains of the Second Death Star while Davey and Jack fly back to base only to find that General Larkin is committing a dying act, trying to reach out to her stepson and adopted son, Sean, who became Sidus Vis years ago.
It’s after she dies that someone reveals to Jack that he is to be the next leader of the resistance. Though, as soon as he hears this, Jack finds himself panicking a bit until Davey touches his shoulder and asks him what he wants to do. Jack asks for his help. He couldn’t lead the resistance alone and he trusts Davey more than anyone in the Galaxy.
So Jack and Davey lead the resistance together and go to find Race who sends them coordinates to his location. They send out a message to as many people as they can, asking them for help and support, as much help as they can get, and they go to end the war. During this battle, it becomes increasingly clear that they’re fighting a losing battle until several ships from all over the Galaxy appear to help them.
Davey nearly gets himself killed trying to take out a ship from on top of it. He jumps from his own ship to try and take it out and nearly gets left behind. Jack tries to save him but is beaten to it by Denton’s old friend (TBD, I don’t know who Lando would be, yet).
And the Resistance wins the battle, going back to base to celebrate.
After learning that Race survived and everything that happened all Jack and Davey and Race can do is hug each other and celebrate the fact that we won until Davey asks Jack if they’re ever gonna talk about that kiss.
Jack just suggests they do it again.
Anyway, there is my very, very rough draft of a Javid Star Wars story. I am so willing to write any scenes from this that any of you guys would like to see, just let me know!

hi!! i adore your blog!!
i’m sorry if this is query is too long to make sense of but i was wondering, since you’re such a well or prequels knowledge and the 2003/5 clone wars has just arrived to d*sney+, what the canon story is for when palpatine was “kidnapped” by grievous immediately before RoTS?
as far as i can tell, there are seemingly several versions?? or am i mistaken? there’s the 2003/5 version and the filoni!clone wars season 7 version (i’ve yet to read luceno’s labyrinth of evil so i don’t know if that has any bearing on my question), as well as the RoTS novelisation — but that introduction is less focussed on the attack on the senate itself and more on how the galaxy reacts to the whole ordeal.
(there have also been several debates on whether or not the 2003/5 clone wars are considered “canon”, which can be factored into discussion, but i personally do consider them to be canon (if not spaced out somewhat oddly, if we’re to believe they coincide with filoni’s canon))
additionally, there’s the question of shaak ti’s “death” on grievous’ invisible hand; whether it actually even happened or not. there’s been debates over her canon death for years now and i’ve never truly gotten a straight answer.
i, and many others apparently, don’t believe that grievous killed her on the invisible hand (THAT death only serves to further goad obi-wan and anakin into wanting to bring the general to justice, which is referenced with the scene in filoni’s tcw where grievous crushes a clone trooper’s skull and obi-wan informs him that “[grievous]’ll regret that”), nor do i believe that she survived order 66, in the pursuit of training a padawan on felucia and then dying by the hands of vader’s secret apprentice starkiller. circling back to the RoTS novelisation, shaak ti is there to keep a watchful eye on anakin and try to keep him from leaving the temple while under lockdown (i’m afraid that’s all i remember of her in the book lol).
at the very end of the 2005 micro-series, anakin and obi-wan are informed by mace windu that the chancellor has been taken hostage before they leave to pursue him – leading directly into RoTS. i personally believe that this aspect of the micro-series is no longer canon, since this is erased with tcw season 7 when anakin, obi-wan and ahsoka are forced to end their reunion prematurely.
one final question (sorry again; i feel like i’ve been asking more than fair, and this has already grown into a tangent) are there other aspects of the 2003/5 clone wars that you believe are no longer canon? what with tcw and d*sney now being unanimously considered to be the True Canon™️, while earlier clone wars material are now only legends.
look forward to hearing your reply!! 💝
Hi! Sorry for taking so long :(
There’s a lot to unpack here so I’ll try to give you a timeline, maybe it’ll be easer to understand what happened
2003 -2008
What was canon? Everything officially released by Lucasfilm, unless stated it wasn’t canon by official sources. Novels, comics, movies, shows, games, etc. Everything was canon, save a few exceptions.
What happened? Palpatine was kidnapped by Grievous before the beginning of ROTS. Shaak Ti was one of the many Jedi sent to rescue the Chancellor. She wasn’t able to rescue Palpatine or kill Grievous but she survived the Ordeal and was alive during the events of ROTS. these events are called the Battle of Coruscant and they were portrayed in Clone Wars (2003) and Labyrinth of Evil by James Luceno.
During the production of ROTS (2005) they had to different death scenes for her. In one she would die by Grievous hands during the Battle of Coruscant. The other would have her be killed by Anakin/Vader during the attack on the Temple. Both ideas were scrapped and neither were considered canon.
So, technically, Shaak Ti survived the events of the Revenge of the Sith (2005). In 2008 The Clone Wars were released. As informed by Lucasfilm everything previously released that clash with what was being portrayed with TCW was no longer canon. But because TCW never clashed with Clone Wars (2003) or the movies on this particular subject, it doesn’t influence Shaak Ti’s fate. Also in 2008 the game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was released where Shaak Ti officially dies after a fight with Star killer.
2012 - ...
That was her canonical death until 2012 when Disney bought Star Wars and made everything, with the exception of the movies and TCW, non-canon.
‘Fun’ fact: TCW (2008) did show a vision of Shaak Ti being killed by Anakin/Vader during Order 66 (based on the ROTS deleted scene) but because it was a vision and not an actual death scene, I don’t think it counts (in terms of Original canon).
However, those episodes were released after the Disney purchase so at the time everything previously published that could contradict this was no longer canon. i’m not 100% sure but i think Shaak Ti dies, in Disney’s canon, during Order 66 because of the events mentioned above. They used that vision to ‘explain’ her death.
PS:
The Battle of Coruscant remains canon to this day. The shows/novels don’t contradict the movies because this is what happened:
Anakin and Obi-wan were away from Coruscant, reunited with Ahsoka.
Grievous and Dooku arrive on Coruscant, kidnap the Chancellor and the Jedi Council goes to the rescue.
Before Anakin and Ahsoka can properly reconnect, he and Obi-wan are told about the Chancellor and return to Coruscant to help.
Clone Wars (2003) we see what happens in Coruscant;
Revenge of the Sith (2005) we see what happened immediately after anakin and Obi-wan arrive on the planet.
The Clone Wars (2020) we see them leaving to Coruscant and what happens to Ahsoka.

Survivors of Unfair Choices (13) | FirstOrder!Poe Dameron x Reader
Words: 1638
Warning: SW-verse typical violence, minor swearing
A/N: Not sure if these updates are showing up under the tags, especially when I add a link in the post. Also, I’ve finished up the writing for this series, so there are four chapters left in this series

The room was in disarray at the news. How are they going to escape this one? A weapon bigger and more powerful than the Death Star had already targeted the system. Does the Resistance stand a chance alone?
Poe squeezed your hand tighter. It was the only thing grounding you right now, preventing you from being swept away in all of this panic. You looked over at him with fear in your eyes, searching for some glimmer of hope in his. He frowned, sifting through his memories about the Star Killer. There were some things that were above his station that General Hux and Kylo Ren had refused to tell the commanders. He was mainly in charge of flight operations and training the stormtroopers on how to fly with the occasional pillaging. The details of the Star Killer base’s integrity and structure were something he didn’t have to be concerned with. If the Death Star could be taken down, surely this one could, too…
“Han!” you called out, catching the former General’s attention.
“What is it, kid?” he asked, frowning.
“Surely, there’s a way to blow this thing up, right?” you said, waving a hand over to the hologram of the Star Killer.
Han’s eyes widened. He snapped his fingers and pointed at you. “You’re right. There’s always a way to do that.”
The room began to settle down, all eyes on him. Several of them shook their heads, looking at each other if they had any ideas on how. Leia sighed in frustration, crossing her arms.
“Han and (Y/n) are right,” she finally said. You smiled, feeling the fear being replaced by hope again.
Admiral Statura stepped forward hesitantly. “In order for that amount of power to be contained, that base would need some kind of thermal oscillator…,” he said, looking over at the General.
“There is one!” Finn piped in.
The attention was once again back on Finn as he moved the hologram around, zooming in on the StarKiller Base until he found what he was looking for. You leaned forward as Finn pointed at a giant black hexagonal structure.
“Precinct 47,” Poe said.
Admiral Statura hummed in contemplation. “If we can destroy that oscillator, it might de-stabilize the core and cripple the weapon.”
“Maybe the planet,” Major Ematt added.
“There’s a defensive shield that the ships cannot penetrate through, but we can disable them,” Poe said, adding to Finn’s plan and raising people’s spirits, “Once that’s done… We'll go in there and we'll hit that oscillator with everything we got.”
“I’m assuming that that Dameron kid and (Y/n/n) will help lead the charge on that end,” Han said, nodding over to Poe before turning to Finn, “Kid, you worked there, too. What you got?”
Finn inhaled sharply, then nodded with dead set determination. “I can do it.”
Han grinned. “I like these kids.”
“I can disable the shields. But I have to be there, on the planet-”
“We’ll get you there,” you assured him before Han could say anything that would upset Leia even more.
You extended a hand out to Finn so you were holding both his and Poe’s hands, showing him that he wasn’t alone anymore and that you won’t let Rey be alone either. You knew that he was just as antsy to be on that Base and rescue Rey than anyone was on stopping the First Order.
“So we disable the shields, take out the oscillator and we blow up their big gun. All right. Let's go!”
The room disperses, everyone heading to their respective stations to ready for the mission. You went ahead with Snap to ready your squadron, checking in with the mechanics on your X-Wing that they’ve managed to retrieve and the types of repairs and upgrades they had added. You had decided to go with Han, Chewie, and Finn on the Millenium Falcon, but you wanted everything to be in working order for Poe to use it as acting Black Squadron Leader, via your request.
“So, Poe Dameron…,” Snap began.
You rolled your eyes. “How many times do I have to hear this today?”
Snap smirked, then said, “He’s an okay guy. Talented, possibly a better pilot than you-” You let out a dramatic gasp “-but, I think he’ll do better in the Resistance than he’ll ever will with the First Order, that’s for sure.”
You placed your hands on your hips and gave him a teasing smile. “You like him, then?”
Snap shrugged.
“He is pretty great, isn’t he?”
It was Snap’s turn to roll his eyes. “I’ll check on my X-Wing now,” he excused himself before you start gushing about your new boyfriend.
“I am pretty great,” you heard Poe said behind you.
You spun around and really liked what you saw. Your eyes roamed up and down at Poe’s new Resistance pilot uniform with a helmet tucked under his arm. Maybe he can be the Resistance’s new poster boy.
“You look good,” you said, grabbing his vest to pull him closer.
“Yeah? Orange looks good on me?” he asked, raising an eyebrow as he inched towards you until there was barely any space left.
“Oh, yeah. Very good,” you muttered, your lips brushing against his.
“A-hem!” Finn coughed.
You reluctantly pulled away from Poe, who pouted, before walking over to your pack next to your X-Wing. You pulled something out and tossed it towards Finn. He caught it and held it out. It was a brown leather jacket with red and black accents, slightly worn, but well looked after.
“My lucky jacket that I wore since I first joined my squadron,” you explained.
“You’re giving this to me?” Finn asked in disbelief. You nodded before gesturing for him to try it on. He couldn’t help but smile as he slid the jacket on and adjusted the collar. He spread his arms and looked at the two of you. “Well?”
“Looks good,” you said.
“Not as good as Poe in that bright orange jumpsuit, though, right?” Finn teased.
“You’re just jealous,” Poe laughed.
Finn smiled. “But we do look good here, don’t we?” he said to Poe, gesturing around at the base.
Poe nodded. “Hell yeah we do.” He grabs your hand. “Can I talk with you before you go?”
You noticed how the smile faded as he said this. You nodded slowly. “You can go on ahead, Finn,” you said.
“Alright, see you later, Poe.”
Poe slapped his shoulder as he passed before turning back to you. He furrowed his brows as he tried to get his thoughts in order. His eyes landed on the ring that you still wore around your neck and his smile appeared again.
“Anything can happen while you’re there,” he said, “and I just want you to know… I always… It’s just… Ever since our first encounter, I’ve always… there was something about you. You were the enemy, yet I had some type of respect and admiration for you. You were a good fighter and a pilot, skills that rivalled my own. I’m just glad that we don’t have to fight anymore.”
“Well, if you’re staying and we want this,” you gestured to the two of you, “to work, there might be a few fighting here and there. Let’s hope it doesn’t escalade, though. We might end up like Han and Leia.”
Poe chuckled. “I don’t know. Looks like we’re halfway there.” You smacked his arm. “See? But I’m serious, anything can happen while you’re in the Star Killer base. You’ve got Finn to help navigate, but there are areas and protocols that are above his station. They change the codes often, but officers like Phasma will have them. Find a way to get them and enter them into a workstation. From there, you should be able to disable the shields. Be careful. I just got you back. I don’t want to lose you.”
You pulled him closer until your foreheads were touching. “You won’t. It’s okay. But if something does happen-”
“(Y/n)-” he began to protest.
“I’m just glad you chose this. Despite everything, you chose to leave the First Order and join the Resistance. I’m sure your parents would be happy about it.”
“I chose you. And I would do it again. My mom and dad would have loved you.” He lifts the ring with a finger. “Keep that. You might need to use it later.”
Your heart fluttered. Being in a serious relationship had never crossed your mind, not when the war was waging on. You have seen it before amongst your fellow Resistance members, but you never thought it would happen to you, let alone have it be your rivalling commanding officer of the First Order. But here the two of you were.
Will your relationship with Poe last? Would it affect your work? It was uncharted territory for the both of you. It felt right, but you worried that this war might take a toll on the both of you or make your relationship stronger. It was like planting a garden, not knowing what to do, but you wanted to try. The rain comes, and the plants grow, but the bugs eat it up. Then, maybe, you both will find a way to fend off the bugs and plant again. You just keep trying and trying. And then the rain comes.
Destroying the Starkiller base brings you one step closer towards the war ending and taking down the First Order. If it doesn’t work, you’ll just have to find another way. The important thing was to keep going, keep fighting. Maybe there were others like Finn who didn't want to follow orders. Maybe there were others like Poe who only chose to stand with the First Order just to survive. As long as there’s hope, the Resistance will keep fighting.

The Rise of Skywalker
Okay so TROS is out in France and I’ve just seen it. And I need to get all those feelings out of my chest.
SO SPOILERS !
Bottom line for those who don’t want to read the whole summary about Kylo/Ben :
- Rey is a Palpatine
- Rey force healing Ben by giving him her life energy
- Leia dies and it makes Ben gives up the dark side.
- Rey VS Palpatine
- Ben Solo comes to help.
- Rey defeats Palpatine but dies.
- Ben Solo gives her his life energy to bring her back to life. That’s the romantic grand gesture they were talking about.
- THEY KISS and immediately after HE DIES and his body DISAPPEARS
- Nothing more is shown and said about Ben, him turning good again or his sacrifice. It’s like only Rey know that and no one will ever learn the truth. Not even Chewie.
Now, onwards for the very long talk :
I hadn’t read the leaks, only the posts on tumblr following them : Rey blowing up the transport ship in which Chewie was in, Kylo Ren / Ben Solo dying and not being talk about again, it’s all true ! Expect that Chewie wasn’t really in the transport ship. He is fine.
More on the rest later but first Ben Solo’s redemption and death + Reylo.
So first off all, Rey goes on the wreck of the Death Star to find an item - a sith wayfinder, only two exist and Kylo has one - that could direct her to Palpatine’s lair, cause yeah, Palpatine is alive and he just lend the First Order a HUGE fleet of Star Destroyers, each equip with a Star Killer canon.
Palpatine is not doing well btw : he is vertically plugged to a machine, his eyes are white, their is missing flesh on his fingers... He hids on a sort of closed temple and has hundreds of Sith cultists (non-fighters) with him.
Kylo finds him and Plapatine tells him he made Snoke and the truth about Rey’s identity (which we don’t hear). He wants Kylo to find Rey and kill her and he will give him the Empire in exchange.
Instead Kylo warns Rey that Palpatine wants her dead and says he doesn’t care about Palpatine’s plans, he just want her to join him on the darkside. He tells her who she is : Palpatine’s grand-daughter. Palpatine had a son who ran away and hid in Jakku with Rey’s mom but the Emperor wanted to get his hand on Rey, presumably to kill her, so they sold Rey and lied about her not being on Jakku anymore before getting killed.
So anyway Rey isn’t taking all that information so well, even less since she had a vision (that we saddly don’t see) of her sitting beside Kylo on the throne of the Siths.
On the deathstar she has a vision of Darth Rey after touching the wayfinder, quite like Luke had of himself on Dagobah. She fights with herself and drops the wayfinder. Kylo picks it up and tells her the only way she will find Palpatine is if she comes with it and he crushed the wayfinder. Rey is seething with anger and fights Kylo very agressively, most of what he does is retreating. They end up outside, on the wreck, above a very agitated sea.
Rey is really close to giving in to her anger and go dark and Kylo finally starts to get the upper hand. And then Leia happens.
Leia who felt their battle, used the last of her strength to connect with his son. She says his name and Kylo feels she is dying. He spaces out and drops his saber. Rey stabs him in the stomach the same moment Leia dies. They both feels it. Rey shuts down her saber, Ben slides down on the floor. Rey cries and looks at Ben, he is staring blankly into space, looking like a lost boy. She kneels beside him and heals him, transferring life energy into him. She tells him he was right, she did wanted to take his hand, Ben’s hand. And she leaves in his ship.
Later we find Ben still on the wreck, standing and looking at the horizon. A voice says “Hey kid” and for a sec I thought it was Ghost Luke. But no ! Ben turns around and it’s Han !
Ben says he is just a memory, “your memory” answers Han. Ben says Ben Solo is dead and Han says that it’s Kylo Ren who is dead, and asks him to come home. And Ben says it’s too late, “she’s dead”. Earlier on we had a hint that Ben wanted to go back to her but he believed he had went to far on the wrong track to be able and allowed to go back. Now Han tells him that what Leia believed in and fought for is still alive. The following scene mirror the one on the Starkiller bridge in SW7, when he killed Han, an act that still haunts him in this movie. Ben says the same lines “I know what I have to do but I don’t know if I have the strength to do it.”. Han’s touches his face and tells him he does. Ben calls him “dad” in a heartwrecking tone and turn around to throw his lightsaber into the sea. When he turns back Han isn’t there anymore.
The next time we see him it’s on Palpatine’s lair. Rey got there and confronted Palpatine who told her he didn’t want her dead, he wanted her to kill him so his spirit would be transferred in her body. Of course she doesn’t want to do so and doesn’t plan on hating him either. But he opens up the roof of the temple and she can see the Resistance’s ships getting their asses kick by his fleet. He tells her that if she completes the rituel she will have control over his fleet and she could then save her new family (the Resistance).
And then she feels Ben. He is here in the temple, with only a loose shirt, pants and a blaster, reminding me of young Luke or young Han, he is fighting his way toward her but the knights of Ren have him cornered and he is now unarmed. Rey and him look into each other eyes using their force bound (that is now strong enough for them to transfer objects between them) and they nods in agreement. Rey pretends she will strike Palpatine down, just like Ben pretented he was going to kill Rey before Snoke. She rises her saber while Palpatine narrates, puts it behind her back and... it’s in Ben’s hands. He was a very endearing gesture there, like he is saying “now we’re talking” and he fights the knights of Ren, one against six, with a blue light saber. Meanwhile Rey has another lightsaber : Leia’s, that force ghost Luke gave her and she fights Palpatine’s guards.
Ben reaches her and they stand togeteher, in sync, before Palpatine. “you stand together. you die together” says Palapatine and he attacks them. But when he does the flesh on his finger is restored. He realized Rey and Ben have something very rare in the force, a bound, a dyad. And he absorbs their power to rejuvenate/heal himself. Rey and Ben fall unconscious on the ground. Palpatine now with his full power, unleashed massive a electric beam toward the ships and starts frying the Resistance (who in the meanwhile got backup from the whole galaxy).
Ben is the first to wake up but Palpatine throws him down a pit kinda like he was thrown in one by Vader. Then Rey wakes up, lies on her back and see the fleet, but beyond them she sees the stars and says “be with me”. Many jedi voices (Luke, Yoda, Qui-Gon, Anakin, Ashoka etc) answer tell her to get back up, that they are with her.
She takes her saber and rise on her feet. Palpatine directs his electicity toward her and she blocks it with her saber. He tells her it’s useless, she can’t defeat him as he is all of the Siths, she cannot win. But she grabs the second light saber and push back, says she is all the jedis, and Palpatine is vaporized by his own force lightining.
The victory is here. However Rey drops the saber and fall on the floor, unmoving, eyes open. Finn (who is force sensitive) fells that she is dead. But from the pit arise Ben. He is injured, limping, he falls several times in his way to reach her but when he finally falls near her, he grabs her and cradles her, looking desperate. Her body is limp, her eyes still open and unmoving. So he lies her down in his laps, closes his eyes and gives her his life energy. Of course it works ! And, knowing about the leaks I think “oh no. oh no. maybe they were wrong about this part at least” and “you mom and uncle would be so pround of you right now”. Rey wakes up, sits up, looks at him, puts his hand on his face. He is so relieved, she smiles and calls his name, “Ben”. And they KISS. BOUM CANON REYLO. And when they break the kiss he gives her a smile so relieved, happy and innocent, it breaks my harts. It breaks my heart because they hug (I think) and then he falls backward. Eyes closed, unmoving and his body disappears and as it does so does Leia’s ! No more Ben. All there is left are his clothes on the ground. And that’s it.
Rey says nothing, the scene just cut to the fleet coming home and celebrating. We see her rejogning the fleet in Luke’s X-Wing, then on their base where she happily reunites with BB-8, Poe and Finn. Then she goes on Tatooine, finds the Skywalker farm, buries Leai and Luke’s lightsaber together. She has made her own lightsaber. It’s yellow.
An old lady passes by and asks her who she is. She says “Rey” and looks on her right. There are Luke and Leia’s force ghosts standing side by side and I’m already dead inside. On Leia’s left there is a blank space. I expected Ben’s ghost to materialize there, like Anakin’s did beside Yoda and Obi-wan in SW4, to shows us Ben is still with her in some way and that he was at least reunited with his mother, thzt he is at peace with Luke and himself. But no, nothing. She says “Rey Skywalker”, watched Tatooine’s suns set and that’s it. Nothing more about Ben turning back good, nothing showing some people -at least Poe, Finn AND FUCKING CHEWIE - YOU KNOW, HIS KINDA-UNCLE CHEWIE, CHEWIE, BEN’S FATHER’S BEST-FRIEND, CHEWIE WHO LET OUT AND HEARTBREAKING CRY AND FELT ON HIS KNEES WHEN HE LEARNT LEIA) DIED, CHEWIE WHOSE THREE BEST FRIENDS (HAN, LUKE, LEIA]) DIED TRYIND TO REACH OUT TO BEN - learned that Ben saved Rey’s life, helped defeat Palpatine and in the end did the right thing. For all we know the galaxy still believes he is evil and died evil.
And really, if Rey went through all the trouble of separating from her friend and go on the Skywalker homeland - like she intended to live there- , couldn’t she just build up a life there with Ben. I can’t see how people would accept Ben and his redemption after he killed so many, including Han, and as he was such an important and feared figure of the First Order. But they could have lay low and live happily together on Tatooine and build a home and a family together there. A Palpatine and a Skywalker, united in peace and love. Two lost children, orphan now, creating their own home. A new start, a new life. But no. We don’t get that. Ben was too young to die in a Star Wars movie. This is not Rogue One wtf.
_____________
So yeah no, I’m not quite okay. The end was too quick. The movie was nice, it didin’t felt slow or dragging, there wasn’t any horses race scene. But the conclusion was too short, to abrupt imo. You needs to spend a little more time on it after three movies ! Or you know, since it’s the end of the Skywalker saga FUCKING NINE MOVIES. Gimme a 30 minutes long ending like in Return of the King. I’m okay with this ! I do want to know what became of the Resistance, of Finn, Poe, Chewie. I do want to see force ghost Ben (since you weren’t kind and hopeful enough to keep him alive).
Btw : R2D2 is barely in this movie and does almost nothing. It’s R2D2. Sure BB8 is cute but R2 as been around since Padmé ! He knows stuffs !! He is good at his job, let him save lives !
No canon Stormpilot. The queer character is has expect of an american Blockbuster own by Disney, a minor character (the lady who said in SW8 that Admiral Ackbar is dead and Leia in a coma) and she just kisses another lady for like 0.02 sec in a crowded scene.
No Rose x Finn either for that matter, not a word about the kiss, or their relation. Two new girls who have a romantic vibe with Poe or Finn, but it doesn’t lead anywhere fortunately.
Force ghost-Luke ! Memory-Han ! Leia (RIP) ! Lando (a bit) ! Chewie (still alive)! C3PO and R2 still alive ! Fucking PALPATINE wtf why were you not hinted at earlier ! CGI young-Luke and young-Leia traning in a forest ! Luke X-wing taking flight again ! The Millenium Falcon still up and running ! So many people from the old movies.
Also Qui-Gon Jinn’s voice. Strangely it conforted me to hear his voice but dammit gimme force ghost-Ben !
What else? Oh yeah Hux betrayed the First Order to get in Kylo’s way and got unmasked and killed. No one ever talked about him again.
Also BEN SOLO IS FREAKING DEAD ! So Ben, you were a betrayed and manipulated kid ? Manipulated by freaking Palpatine and betrayed by your uncle Luke ? You want to do the right now ? Well you will have to die for it!
No ! Keep him alive, have him earn is redemption by doing more for the good guys, to compensate the harm he has done. Or at least leave him in peace with his lover.
I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY KILLED OFF -ALL- THE SKYWALKERS ! We like them ! Keep the young and last one alive at least !
Also the whole Palpatine business is so abrupt. That’s a thing for three movies, or two at last, not just the last one.
But I enjoyed it anyway. But my heart is quite broken. And it’s the end of the trilogy and Skywalker bloodline and story and i don’t know what to do with this.
I wished they hadn’t reused the “reformed bad-guy saves someone he loves from the Emperor but dies by doing so” plot point from the Return of the Jedi. We had seen this already, you could have done something knew and less heartbreaking. Vader at done a lot more evil, willingly, not because he was confused and manipulated, he was old, barely living. But Ben ? Ben was ready to start anew on the right path, he was young and seemed hopeful after Rey came back to life. His parents and his uncle tried to save him from the dark side. But when he finally got away from it he dies ? Just dies like that ? I thought I was okay with the idea that his redemption meant his death, but it turns out I’m not, it doesn’t feels right.
Ben was a main charcater, one in whose redemption I was too much emotionnaly invested about to be okay with him dying like that, Vader style.

Happy Star Wars Month!
Happy Star Wars Month! Compiled here is a chronology of what the Kylux fandom has been through so far. This is by no means complete, and is specifically tailored for events in the USA, so it’s being provided as an open source document to share and distribute because each fan’s experience is different. We should all be so proud of our accomplishments, from art to fics to comics to toys and so much more!
I want to thank everybody who helped compile this list; it was truly a group effort. The link is below, though I’ve included the entire list under the cut.

Warnings: nonexplicit mentions of previous noncon situations
In the long pauses before death, we seek solitude in the silence.
There are no poems, no words at all for us to hear.
Merely a look that ties us all together until at last it is gone.
Be careful not to blink, for those long pauses are fleeting moments.
Three Blind Tooke
Part Two: Precarious Harmony
Chapter Twenty-Five: The Entangled Strings of Twin Puppets
You had spent years training with the Resistance in order to deliver a kill shot to one of the New Republic’s most formidable foes: Kylo Ren. He was an enemy the New Republic had been oblivious to, much in the same way they had denied the threat posed by the First Order. That had, ultimately, been their undoing; Starkiller Base, prior to its destruction, had obliterated the entire Hosnian System, the Galactic Senate along with it. Your mother had perished that day. Your father had already passed away during the time you had been absent, though this you had not learned until after you had been taken captive by Kylo Ren. Your body was not the same after the attack that had nearly left you dead; the lightsaber wound had compromised your body. And so now you were to retrain yourself—both physically and emotionally—in order to discover a new means of killing the man that was your captor—your host.
It was ironic, that you were in some twisted way the guest of someone who had imprisoned you. Had done unspeakable things to you—all in order to break you down. The horrors of war were something that not all could understand. The sights that were faced by those at the forefront. The acts committed, all said to be for the sake of the greater good. Each side had its own idea as to what that greater good would be. There were always those torn in the middle. People so conflicted over their morals that they were ripped apart—at times, solely figuratively, while other times a literal instance of this would occur. It was not only the acts or words of the leaders of either side that led to this. For example, General Leia was the mother of Kylo Ren. The man who had formerly been Ben Solo; a fact you had learned only after being made his prisoner. You had been trained to kill him, all the while your general had not wished this. Splinter cells. Every piece working to do what they believed would help the cause.
Ultimately hurting one another. It had broken you completely in ways—to find that you could have compassion for an enemy…empathy. You despised his methods though you understood where they came from.
Both a prisoner and a guest of the Master of the Knights of Ren, you were presently alone in his living quarters. The door was locked, this you well knew, and yet it was not to keep you in. No, it was locked in order to keep out a specific individual.
You had heard much of the First Order’s General Hux prior to meeting the man. When you had spoken with him, you had eventually admitted your respect for him—as a leader, though his ideals were anything but those held by you. You despised what he stood for, and yet… It was with revulsion that you had to admit to yourself yet again that you had allowed the man to touch you, to have sex with you, and on more than one occasion. That he was your enemy was of no consequence; that did not toke the fires of your anger. It was that he had ordered the destruction of the Hosnian system, had essentially ordered your mother’s death—you had had sex with your mother’s killer.
When at last you finished with Kylo Ren, when you were able to kill the man who had stolen your freedom, you would deal with the redhead. You executed another four sit-ups then allowed yourself to lie down to relax. Your stamina was lacking. All the while Kylo Ren was healing from his injuries; his training with his Master would begin within mere days.
Patience. It was a mantra that was repeated in your head six times before you thought to yourself: the Rule of Two. This was what Ren had equated your arrangement with him to. He well knew that your intentions were to become stronger and kill him. All the while he used this as a means to strengthen himself. A façade of harmony.
The two of you.
He wanted to be the center of your world, as he had been for so long. General Hux would be a distraction, his very presence a threat to that rule of two. You grit your teeth and started to raise your torso. Another set of four sit-ups. It was taking its toll on your body, which was out of shape. Sweat dripped down your back. General Hux could not be your focus as much as Kylo Ren. That would render you sloppy, as you had been in the past. Focusing on too much at once. Not being patient.
There is no Resistance, you said in your head. The members of the Resistance would bench you if they could; take what information you were able to provide, yet allow you to assist no further.
In a way, you understood why this would be. It was not only your body that was compromised. You remained steadfast in your loyalties. Still, you could not deny that empathy. That compassion. Understanding your enemy and knowing that there were certain aspects of him that you could… You broke off that thought, afraid of it. Such a terrifying thing, learning that you could hate a number of individuals for what they did…yet care for specific members of that establishment as well.
Why did you kill my comrades? you wanted to ask despite knowing the answer. The sting would never fade. You would always sit there, shell-shocked in the face of the outcome.
You were now acting on your own. It would benefit the Resistance, the galaxy, and yet you were no longer under the rules that had governed your actions in the past. The rules of the New Republic itself. But fuck if my body isn’t resisting me...
You collapsed onto your back again. Tears of frustration stung your eyes. You had known ahead of time that it would take more than a single exercise session to get to where you needed to be. New limits. New rules. Finding a way to balance your loyalties and your heart.
The Rule of Two.
Panting, you listened passively to a quiet beeping that was coming from the device beside your head. The electronic tooke pet Kylo Ren had provided you as a form of entertainment. You reached to the side, lifted the device, and played a small game with the tooke. Your heart took a few moments longer to return to a normal pace. You felt utterly drained of energy, which caused your frown to spread further. You fed the electronic pet, set down the device, and placed both your hands atop your stomach, one above the other.
“You can do this,” you said to yourself. “Just relax. Patience…patience…”
Stars, you thought, you had been in isolation for part of your training as well as while imprisoned. With nothing to do. Biding your time. That had been before you had learned of your father’s demise. Before your mother had been murdered by the actions of the First Order.
A beeping drew you out of your thoughts. You rolled up into a sitting position as Kylo Ren was putting in the code to enter his quarters. And then you were on your feet when the doors opened—and you felt your stomach drop. The nozzle of a blaster was pointed your way. Not Ren. In the place of one monster was another. You lifted your hands into the air to show that you were surrendering—temporarily. A shiver caused your teeth to chatter together. The sweat that had poured from your body during your exercises now assisted in making you too cold.
You glowered at the man holding onto the blaster that was pointed in your direction. “As if I could not get any code that has to do with my ship, tooka,” General Hux said through his snarl. You kept your hands raised in the air for half a second longer before slowly lowering your limbs. Your eyes darted away from his face to the blaster. He seemed to want you alive, which meant it would be set to stun rather than kill. Even if you managed to wrest the weapon out of his grasp, it would do you no good; you recalled that it was encrypted to work only with his fingerprints. The redhead tilted his head back and stared down the length of his nose at you. “You will come out of this room now.”
“You’re…taking me hostage?” you asked mockingly. As if you were a free woman to begin with. You snorted at the thought.
“You may relax if you believe it is my intention to rape you,” he said evenly. You barked out a bitter laugh at that.
“No, General. You do far worse than that, don’t you?” The corner of his mouth twitched, however his expression did not twist away from the frown that was plastered there. You took a step forward towards the open door of Ren’s quarters. The moment you left the sanctity of this room, the moment you were truly taken into custody by the general of the First Order instead of the Master of the Knights of Ren—that would change the game once more. There would be no Rule of Two. There would be three of you once more at that point.
A fresh wave of sweat began to form, beading on your flesh. This time it was from apprehension rather than exertion. Forced upon you instead of self-induced. You began to slide one foot backwards only to pause in your movements. General Hux had quirked a brow, challenging you with that expression.
“Are you content with being a small tooke then?” You narrowed your eyes while you watched him, more suspicion welling up inside of you. “A tooka, at least, has claws and teeth.”
“A tooke can defeat a rancor.”
“If the rancor first consumes it. Toxic… If you plan on eliminating me as well—and I am certain you are—you won’t be so reckless.”
Kriff, you thought as your heart fluttered in your chest. Kriff…he has a point. Or is he just that eloquent? So deceptive?
“You haven’t a choice when it comes down to it. I plan on taking you, whether you’re stunned and I am dragging you, or be it by you walking out of there.” Aware that it would do your compromised body excessive harm, and thus damper your plans, to even be stunned, you slid your foot forward this time. Then, lifting the limb, you took the first step towards the redhead. He said nothing, his face not betraying anything either. The man was observing you as he had so often in the past. Calculating. He knew better than to underestimate you.
You entered the hallway, fully exiting the quarters of Kylo Ren, and the door closed behind you. By then your heart was starting to race again. What sort of sick game were you being thrust into now? This was where General Hux was the player. Perhaps you were only his pawn, as you had been in the past. He waited until you were in front of him then gestured that you keep walking. The gun was pointed at your back.
You had at long last accepted Ren’s suggestion that you were, in some twisted way, his guest—and now you were being stolen away. Another hitch in your plans. No matter, you told yourself; you would adapt to the situation, as you had been forced to do ever since your capture.
“Did it thrill you, knowing that you were ordering my mother’s death?” you asked when the pair of you turned down the second hallway. You were not entirely certain where it was he was taking you. This was not the way to the general’s quarters; you had been there enough times to know better. General Hux did not respond to your inquiry, which caused your face to grow hot in frustration. Anger welled up inside of you. Knowing better than to unleash your rage, knowing that he had the upper hand and would simply shoot you there, you addressed him in a different fashion. “I hear your precious Starkiller Base was destroyed. Good riddance.”
“It is not often I am in the company of such a bitter woman.” A pause. “Turn left here.” You rolled your eyes though you complied all the same. Where? Where? Where am I going? “I do not understand Supreme Leader’s insistence on keeping Ren, on my rescuing him before the destruction of the planet.”
Ah, is this why he’s kidnapping me? It does not seem like him to be so petty. He must have other plans.
“And you…”
“Me?” you asked under your breath, grumbling now. After your mini workout, you were exhausted, though you refused to admit this to the man. In truth, you were nearly ready to collapse.
“You survived his blade in the past,” General Hux replied. You glanced over your shoulder, stumbling your next step. “Not that it hasn’t taken its toll.”
“Do you plan on experimenting on me? To prepare yourself for battle…against Ren?” No response. Not even a twitch. “Do you fancy yourself above him? Or is it… You seem to think so highly of yourself. I don’t see you as being content with being…not only under Ren, but the Supreme Leader as well. Your ideals may be the same, but there can only be one.”
“Has Ren taught you otherwise? That there can be…two, perhaps? Sith lore holds little interest for me, tooka, but I do know enough. He is merely toying with you.”
“You’re not doing anything different. Using me to your own advantage.”
You waited, leaving off on that note to see how he would react. Once more you were met with silence. Your walk was cut short when he directed you to face a door. General Hux reached past you, typing in a code that caused the door to open, and pressed the nozzle of the gun against you to urge you inside. You did not dare disobey, not giving up hope that you could eventually kill this man and the other.
There was not much inside the room. An interrogation table, a chair, and supplies set out on a ledge. “Before your mind goes to places it need not, I do not plan on harming you either. You can be useful to me.”
“Because you want Ren dead?”
“Yes—and that is hardly a secret. Neither of us is exactly fond of the other.” You turned around to face him at long last. General Hux lowered his weapon. “You’re interested to hear what I have to say.” Your bottom lip trembled as a wave of emotions went through you. This was your mother’s executioner. “Not all Sith have only a single teacher. And Ren is no Sith. His Rule of Two is a farce. I do understand the similarities. For you to reject my help… I suppose we would have our own duo as well. Wherein we wish to kill the other. Are using one another for our own purposes.”
It was supposed to have been just Kylo Ren and you. The Rule of Two. A third party. A second Rule of Two. That did not add up.
He was ruining everything.
He was perhaps your only means of defeating Kylo Ren, who would be receiving help from an outside party as well—Snoke. In a way, it only made sense. You would be allowed to discover some of General Hux’s weaknesses as well.
“You really don’t care that you’re responsible for my mother’s death.”
“I do not.”
You curled your hands into fists and grit your teeth. It took you a few moments to gather yourself. “This plan of yours—Ren will know.”
“His paranoia will be useful. He wants you. While he says that he would be willing to kill you, I doubt the sincerity in his words. Now, I need an answer, tooka.”
“Fine.” You felt numb saying it.
There had been two.
And now there were three—soon to be four, when Supreme Leader began his training. Puppets often did not know the identity of the true puppet master. There were layers of veils and curtains, each blocking the view one needed in order to see who it was that happened to be pulling the strings. You had the unfortunate advantage of knowing exactly who was pulling your strings. Kylo Ren and General Hux were the guilty parties. In the past, the Resistance had dictated your actions. Supreme Leader Snoke was doing all he could to manage the strings that held the Knight and General. All three of you, puppets in a play. The puppet master could be murdered, could become too confident in his role. Without his puppets, he would be nothing.
Thus with General Hux revealing his readiness to play against Kylo Ren, you were happy to jump at the chance to assist him. These two puppets. The main attractions of Snoke’s play. While you made an educated guess that more puppets were behind the scenes, you would leave them to the Resistance. Your focus would remain on where you could do the most damage, be effective in any way given that you were at the disadvantage with your health as it was.
At least now you would be allowed to use the First Order’s training facilities—within reason. General Hux was clever, and you sincerely doubted he would give you too much slack. That would be a noose around his throat.
General Hux was more than happy to display the smoking gun before Ren. You. You were a plaything for either of them. A willing puppet. It was the only semblance of freedom for you. This was your mindset as you crossed down the hallways and corridors of the Finalizer. You could hardly walk straight. Exhaustion from your meager exercise routine was setting in. You were equally drained on an emotional level. How long had you been playing this game with the two?
It had been longer with Ren than Hux. The Force user had snatched you from the fires of death—quite literally.
A monster that fed on the innocent; that had been the cause of many nightmares for you as a child. It had supposedly lived underneath one’s bed. If one were to place their foot over the edge of the bed, they could feel the monster’s breath. It had terrified you when you were younger. Caused you to rush to and from the bathroom when you found the need to use a toilet. As you grew older, your monsters changed shape—they became real.
The monster you had spent years training to hunt had taken your virginity. He had raped you on more than one occasion… And then you had had sex with him of your own accord—in a way. Being that you were a prisoner, your consent would be under scrutiny by many, and rightly so. The ability to consent meant you had freedom. Ironically, Kylo Ren granted you that amount of freedom, moreso now that you understood what it meant to be his guest.
Your host and captor was in his quarters when you arrived. He was seated on the edge of the bed, his elbows resting on his knees as he took you in. No mask, you noted. “You already know.” The words slipped from your tongue easily enough, and Kylo Ren offered a simple nod in response. “If the enemy of my enemy is my friend…that would mean both you and the General are my friends.”
“Ironic…” His voice trailed off, his thought not entirely spoken. It was strange, the familiarity you felt while with him. Alone. He had kept you isolated save for when he desired your company. You had learned to enjoy his touch, while at the same time you recoiled from it. Over time you had come to understand him, his brokenness. In a former life of his, he had been the son of your General Organa. Funny; she had never revealed that her son was your enemy. “You’re a resourceful woman…and the general is cunning. I should have suspected such results sooner.”
It took a great man to admit he was wrong. You admired your enemies’ strengths. Doing otherwise would be foolish, and allow them to gain the advantage.
“That first time you forced your way into my head… Why did you memorize the memories I pushed forward to keep you away from information on the Resistance?”
“I could feel you dying,” Kylo Ren stated simply. Your mind wandered once more to the way the lightsaber had felt piercing through your flesh. The smell of burning bodies, your comrades being incinerated in order to become a part of Ren’s ash collection. You had lain there waiting for your turn. Buried underneath the corpses of your fallen allies, you had anticipated it. Had welcomed death though a small portion of you had feared it as well. “In the Force… A light flickering in and out, fading… I reached out towards you—and when I discovered that it was you, the long-distance shooter that had taken my blade, I grew curious.
“I believed you would be easy to break. That it would be no trouble to take from your mind information on the Resistance, on the cell you were a part of. Those who have attempted to block me out in the past never offered up such personal information. It is with reluctance that I enter the minds of others…”
“You enjoy entering my head though?” you asked, the beginning of your question filled with a level of animosity that dwindled as you neared the end. It was hitting you in full, the meaning behind your own words. He enjoyed you. It was not as though these thoughts hadn’t floated through your mind before; you knew a part of him cared for you. This new depth made you uncomfortable. Admitting to yourself that, had the two of you been aligned with one another, the pair of you would have possibly loved each other.
Shrinking away from the thought, you transferred your gaze to the wall behind Kylo Ren. It was so plain. Sometimes you missed being on a planet. Even when you had been with the Resistance, you had felt homesick. Home is where the heart is.
Your parents were dead. You had been fighting for them—for everyone, but for them especially. You crossed Ren’s quarters until you arrived at the surface that had so held your gaze. Kylo Ren did nothing to deter you. He remained silent; the only noise coming from him was his breathing. It was familiar to you, relaxing. A part of you wondered why it was General Hux had once more forced his way into your life. It would benefit you, to be certain; and yet, in some ways, it had come too soon. There were pros and cons to the deal you had with him. Accepting his help as you were… You shook your head again.
“Before… When you had first captured me, I had been able to exercise for a slightly longer duration before tiring. Am I worse now? Will things continue this way?” In a way, you were speaking to yourself. Yet you did not mind Kylo Ren listening in on your musings. “Accepting the General’s assistance… He may provide the medical care I need as well, which is the only way I can hope to defeat you.”
“I hardly fault you for placing yourself into a position that will be to your advantage.” Hearing him say this caused your mind to stop racing. You lifted both your hands, running them along the top of your head. “It is no different than my own training.” You half turned to stare at his back. You wondered if he sometimes watched you simply by using the Force. He had already stated that he felt for you, that that was how he had discovered you were the one still alive. Which meant he had quite probably been meditating as your comrades had been placed into that furnace.
You had dreamed of what it would have been like to be burned alive. Those were never nightmares for you. Bad dreams, perhaps; but you would not label them as nightmares. At that point in time, you had been in a poorer position, had not accepted that you and Ren could use one another. The majority of the time you were with him, you had dreamed of home. Alas, when you had returned to Naboo, it had been…unpleasant at best. A nightmare, your mind supplied.
Kylo Ren rose from the bed while you watched him. The man moved towards the refresher, into which he disappeared. You crossed the room as well. Stripping out of your clothes, you set both your hands on the mattress. You wore only your underwear. This allowed you to stare down at your scars. The one from where Kylo Ren had pierced you, and another where he had singed you in the side with his lightsaber while interrogating another Resistance member. You grit your teeth at that memory. The man had broken, spilling secrets you had insisted he could hold—you could have taken it, even if it had meant your death.
You slipped your hands along the mattress as you climbed onto the bed in full. Your abdomen was sore. Fatigue was setting in. Hmm… It’s close to time for a new chip… Could that be the cause? The endometriosis…all my internal injuries… The doctor said… Each of your thoughts trailed off, though they strung together quite nicely. You laid down on the bed, curling up on your side so that you could properly watch the door to the refresher.
It was part of your arrangement with Kylo Ren that your medical needs would be taken care of. You curled your arms around your midsection. Having believed that he was simply using the toilet, you clicked your tongue against the roof of your mouth in annoyance upon hearing the shower turn on. He would be cleaning his wounds and changing his bandages. You did not want to wait that long to ask him the questions that had arisen in your mind. Thus you shimmied to the opposite edge, dangled your legs over the side of the bed, and moved up onto your feet.
The door was not locked, not that you had expected it to be. Kylo Ren wanted to be kept on his toes with you. Allow you chances to attack—only now, you would bide your time more and not be foolish in your attempts. You pushed open the door and walked over to the toilet. You sat on the closed lid, your arms once more around your midsection.
“When will the chip be switched?” you asked, ensuring that your voice was loud enough to carry over the sound of the spray. Kylo Ren merely muttered out your name. You waited for several seconds before deciding to humor him. Your hands pushed down your panties and then you busied yourself with unhooking your bra. You climbed into the steaming shower with him.
Immediately you were pleased that you did so. The warmth felt great on your body. Ren did not make it a point to touch you, nor did he deliberately avoid you. He brushed against you here and there as he washed himself. You were allowed to remain under the spray for the most part, save for when the man required it to rinse off soap. Ren once more stepped into the spray, and you pressed your front against his back.
“A physical exam is scheduled for tomorrow,” he said. “It may not be due to the need for a replacement chip, although the possibility is likely… You’ve adjusted the way you had been exercising. You have hardly taken into consideration that the majority of your training occurred prior to your death.”
That was true, you noted, setting your palms flat against his shoulder blades. The man hardly flinched under your touch, though he did tense a little. He was not one who enjoyed others touching him without his permission. You had taken note of this; it was a reason you had always been baffled by the fact that he often had contact with you. Kylo Ren shifted around, turning so that your hands were on his chest. You tilted back your head to peer up at his face.
The scar was faint, yet it was there. Your eyes traveled along it before you met his gaze in full. “That was your fault.” That you had died—he had placed you in the care of Miovtha. And that you had lived; his reaction to your death… “Had I been on… That is to say—if either of us had been on the opposite side with the other…me with the First Order, or you with the Resistance…”
“Are you looking for affection due to losing your parents?” He often deflected when it came to anything remotely sentimental. Your eyes dropped to his chest, and you rested your head there. This man had killed his father; he had told you as much, had chastised you for even momentarily mourning Han Solo. Your hands shifted down to the light scar that was the remains of his bowcaster wound. He had used a generous amount of bacta and other ointments to reduce the visibility of the scar. In truth, it was still in the process of healing. “Mm… that isn’t it at all. You are truly curious about me… How sweet.”
In the past, you would have cursed him for implying such a thing. More and more, however, you were discovering how alike the two of you were in certain respects. Devoted to the cause; on opposite sides of this war. “Complimenting you in any manner is a waste. You’re arrogant,” you shot. Ren’s response was to grunt then cup your face in his hands. He smirked down at you when he tilted your head back so that you were forced to meet his gaze. You narrowed your eyes half-heartedly at him. “You have theorized that Snoke will not order you to kill me… He may eventually.” Your mind could not fully escape from the memory of him murdering his own father; though you had not seen it with your own eyes, your imagination provided plenty enough of a visual.
“I have already informed you, tooke: you help to increase my power. Killing you would be a waste.” Your bottom lip quivered at that. How many of your allies had this man killed? He murdered countless on the battlefield—yet your death would be a waste? It was a disgusting compliment you wished could not have been bestowed upon you. Kylo Ren’s mouth found yours. Though you did not respond, you did nothing to push him away either. He kissed you only that single time, and then left your mouth and his in close proximity. “Were you ever in love, tooke?”
Despite the hot spray of water, you felt a sudden chill. There was a sort of desperation in his voice as he posed the question. As though he wished to own you entirely, be the only individual you had ever considered spending your life with—even if another reality would have had to have existed.
“Not like that,” you said, knowing it would do you little good to lie. He had been in your mind before, and he would quite likely visit it many times more. Ren dipped his chin a fraction of an inch. His suspicions had been confirmed. The hands that were cupping your face dropped to his sides.
Kylo Ren turned around, shutting off the shower and then reaching out to grab a towel for himself. After wrapping the cloth around his waist, the Force user seized the spare towel and gave it to you. You clutched the towel against your chest. It took you a few moments longer before you fully snapped back to the present and proceeded to dry yourself.
“I will show you, Tooke, how sentiment is a weakness. It will be your downfall.”
You stared after him as he exited the refresher. You were still drying off at that point. Shaking your head, you could not help but wonder if sentiment would be his downfall. You wrapped the towel about your body, your bare feel pattering on the floor as you walked over to the exit.
“Do you believe that I won’t be able to kill you…because you were my first? Because I think about how it might have been?” You dropped the towel when you arrived at the edge of the bed. Kylo Ren, as naked as you, sat atop the blankets. He was cross-legged when you knelt at his side. Your hands were on his thigh, and you felt his gaze lingering on the two tattoos of his names. His fingers trailed along the tattoo of Ben Solo. “I used to pretend that you could be him… But no one can return to the past. It doesn’t work like that, no matter how much we want to cling onto things. I may be sentimental…but I’m learning. I understand that now.”
“You had to die to learn,” he said, his tone one of mocking.
You tilted your head to the side, cringing as you fought off a wave of pain. “You did as well. It may have been on a more…figurative level…but—“ You were forced to swallow your next words when the man’s hand flew to the back of your head, and he tugged you forward, your lips meeting his. Both of you kept your eyes open, your tongues battling for dominance. Your fingertips dug into the flesh of his thigh. His tongue pressed down on yours, forcing you to submit to him.
The moment you stopped fighting, Ren broke away. “You are afraid, tooke. What will you do once you at last kill me? The general is working alongside you for the time being, however you have to be more on guard with him… Which leads me to wonder: do you plan on using him to strengthen yourself…only to betray him first. Once he is out of the way, you will kill me—or die trying.”
You flinched, ripping yourself away from him entirely. Your heart was pounding in your chest, racing and drumming in your ears. He had read you like an open book without first invading your mind. The two of you knew one another too well. Which meant that your own suspicions were likely true: that a part of this man loved you. You gulped at the thought, the realization.
“Which memory was it?” you asked, your voice so small. Ren’s wide eyes searched your face, as though the man was looking for an out. Snoke’s pupil and you: two puppets becoming further and further entangled with one another. General Hux’s strings, likewise, were adding to that tangled mess. If the three of you were not careful, your movements would be limited and the puppet master would cut your strings—not to free you, but to instead break you, burn you, eliminate you. “Which memory made you want me?”
“How devoted you were to your parents. That you would throw away your life, your freedom…to save them.” You furrowed your brow at the mention of freedom. Kylo Ren chuckled. “Joining the Resistance meant you had to sacrifice so much. The idea of even having a family of your own… You were willing to put that off indefinitely to further the ideals of your mother and father. Your relationship with them was…interesting. The way you disagreed with much, and yet… You were so devoted.”
Ironic, that this was what he told you; given that his devotion continued to endear him to you in a way.
“I am still devoted,” you argued. Kylo Ren nodded, a smile spreading on his face. You refused to back down as you had in the past, did not lower your gaze. You were devoted: to the cause of destroying him. In a twisted way, you were devoted to Kylo Ren. “This is all a mess.”
“You have proven on more than one occasion that you easily adapt,” he drawled. You sighed and started to run your fingers through your hair. “Would you like to eat with me, tooke?”
Deflection yet again, though this time in a different manner. He acted as though he did not long for your company, phrased his requests as inquiries to make it seem as though you were the one who needed this. General Hux was not the only individual making your job more difficult than it should be. You were far too drawn to your captor in the same way he was drawn to you. Respect and longing. Neither of you could allow sentiment to interfere with your jobs. Perhaps, you thought, that was why Kylo Ren committed monstrous deeds. The man who had once been nothing more than a creature; Ren stared at you with those wide eyes, as though he was pleading with you.
“Yes,” you replied.
Ren lifted up his datapad from the bedside table, flicking through a few screens. You guessed that he was putting in an order for food. When he had finished with this task, the Force user went to his closet. He pulled on a pair of loose pants then grabbed out a large shirt and a pair of your panties. You dressed when these two clothing items were tossed over to you. Ren rejoined you on the bed, the man closing his eyes while lying beside you. You watched him.
“Why did you warn me?” His eyes reopened, and the man was staring at you with a questioning look. “All those times, hinting that I would not be free even if I escaped… You dropped hints that you were, in some twisted way, being merciful with how you were treating me. Allowing me those moments to try to kill you. Why?”
“It does not matter.”
Funny, you thought; he said that sentiment did not matter.
You sighed and looked to the door so that you could watch for the food to arrive. All the while your mind continued to sort through events in your life since your capture. How this man purposely antagonized you. Hurt you—tried make you hate him in some ways whist also dissuading you from demonizing him. He wished to be viewed as human though he respected your need to kill him. You would never give up fighting, not really. Yet you sometimes longed for death.
He’s like me… I hate it.

The Bridge Trope in Star Wars and what it may mean for IX
Besides being iconic markers in our daily lives, bridges are an awesome symbol:
transition and a boundary between sky and earth, life and death, real and imaginary, mortal and immortal,  good and evil, civilization and the wilderness, rich and poor, old and new
marking both a connection and a separation through time and space, between people, between places
Which is why, they are so easily used in stories as a decisive step in a hero’s journey, the Rubicon moment, the ultimate test, when through wit, trick, or strength, a bridgekeeper must be defeated. Let’s say it is a hero’s journey and fairy tale classic.
Tumblr media
Add to that the fact that bridges are quite the war movie cliché, they are obvious landmarks to destroy, and vital targets to control. Destroying a bridge often means isolating and weakening the enemy, depriving it from communication and food, water, or medical supplies.
So, of course, we get to meet the bridge trope again and again in Star Wars. And, more often than not, the bridges we get are bridges of Death. From the Phantom Menace’s Duel of the Fates
Tumblr media
To Han’s death in The Force Awakens.
Tumblr media
It is actually fitting to say that both scenes constitute an interesting framing for the Skywalker saga. Duel of the Fates is a very apt name for the beginning of the saga. Remember that Anakin’s name is etymologically “Ananke”, that is to say Fate, Destiny. Anakin’s fate is in the balance there, and the end result of who gets to become his Master and teaching him about the Force is key. Had Qui Gon lived, possibly, there would not have been any Vader. As for, Han’s death in TFA, the constant play of words between sun and son, and the not so subtle imagery of light and darkness, is supposedly all about Kylo’s fate. If Qui Gon’s death is possibly the first step towards the fate that will turn sweet lovable Anakin munchkin into big bad Vader, Han’s death is the counterpart of this scene, thus the first step towards big bad Kylo turning eventually into lovable Ben Solo. And just as it took three movies to realize the Fate of Anakin, it will take three movies to realize the Fate of Ben Solo. But I digress. Or not.
Because both stories, which interact like mirror images of each other, are perfectly hinged around two other crucial bridge scenes. One in ESB. And one in ROTJ. You know what I’m talking about, right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And these two are also counterparts. ESB’s bridge scene is Luke’s symbolic death scene: learning the truth about his father, and losing his hand, he would rather choose death and commit suicide. ROTJ’s bridge scene is Vader’s death and Anakin’s redemption, with Luke accepting the truth, Vader losing a hand, and choosing to save his son’s life. Even the placement of the actors emphasize this idea of mirror image. So Luke gets his Troll Bridge twice: he fails the test the first one, falling to the chasm and falling apart, and succeeds the second time around. Doing what? Throwing away his saber. Choosing love. Refusing to kill.
But I would also like to stress out that, from a certain point of view, Luke is not the only one who gets tested there on the Troll Bridge. Anakin, just like his son, also fails the first test and passes the second. In ESB, he has little to no love to offer and tempt Luke to his side: he offers the vague promises of the power of the dark side and ruling the galaxy together (which didn’t work with Padmé either). In effect, he is selfish, abusive, scarring his son physically and psychologically, and does not seem too distressed when Luke lets go and falls “presumably” to his death. In ROTJ, he chooses the losing side, standing against the Emperor to save his son’s life, which he knows, will eventually cost him his life. Thus, he is showing empathy and remorse, and saves Luke through a selfless act of love.
Yep, that is what the OT is about.
And, arguably, these two scenes constitute the very axis around which the other two trilogies are built. Hence my first “digression”.
It is also very interesting to note that in the four cases exemplified so far, the “bridges” in question are seemingly “reactor cores”, excuse my tech ignorance. These scenes are never about bridges out in the open, over a river, connecting two shores. They are always played out over a chasm, surrounded with energy fields, in dark environments with a possible fall into a bottomless abyss... Two possible interpretations:
because they are battle of the brains, moral battle of good versus evil within oneself. Inner battles. Think grey cells, cerebellum connections, as a map for these duels.
because they are battle of the heart. Issues of love. “core”
Honestly, I think they both go together!
Symbolically, they are your typical “choose the right path” bridges, the life and death, good vs evil bridges.
The many bridges of Luke
If you actually consider the OT, Luke’s journey is very much rhythmed by a series of bridges. Which might seem ironic for a boy coming from a desert planet with no water, and thus, no use or concept for bridges (besides rocky arch formation such as we see during the pod race in PM). But consider the last name GL decided to give him: SKYWALKER. That was not the orginial name he had chosen, right, since in first drafts Luke was called “Starkiller”. Consider then what a huge difference it makes when you move from a very martial moniker “Star/killer”, which is all about destroying life and light (and Luke actually comes from “light” etymologically speaking) to choose something that means: the one that walks the skies. Not flies. WALKS. And if you walk the skies, chances are you are walking on a bridge of some kind (like mythological rainbow bridges). Crossing a bridge is very much akin to walking the sky: you are suspended between heaven and earth. So even the name GL chose for his star family is all about “walking” on bridges.
The “bridge” moment in ANH is rather brief, but quite interesting. It is actually the “NO BRIDGE” moment, the one when Luke and the Princess find themselves locked out with no crossing, and stormtroopers shooting at them. This moment:
Tumblr media
What does it reveal about Luke? His ingenuity, since he uses his farmboy utility belt to cross the bridge, but then also his instincts, the fact that he can rely on his roots (what he learned as a farmboy), his audacity, his ability to take a leap of faith (something that will play out later in his relationship with his father). But it also sets him apart as a different kind of hero. The NOT MY LUKE people should really pay attention to these details. Sure, he plays the hero, saves the damsel and everything, but in this scene they work together, she also gets to protect them, he trusts her with defending them, she is the one giving him a kiss for luck. This is very positive masculinity. Heroic, but not pushy. Manly, but respectful of women. Physical but also using his brain. Luke is such a dear.
In ESB, the big bridge moment is the one I already referred to. The moment of truth. Having these two characters on a bridge is very clever of course. It’s all about meeting in the middle. A bridge is by essence a balancing act. Can they meet halfway or will they cut all connections? Can opposites reconcile? Will they connect/reconnect? What better way to talk about human emotion and love than put them on a bridge, the very metaphor for communication, leap of faith, and the possible danger of reaching out to the other with your feelings?
But ROTJ goes even further with the bridge metaphor. Going with this when Luke reveals the truth to Leia...
Tumblr media
To carry on with Leia and Han, where Han shows more of his emotions ans proves how supportive and selfless he can be when he is just there to comfort her in the end, putting away his jealousy and self-doubts:
Tumblr media
Followed with this, for Luke and Vader’s first meeting since ESB when Luke calls him “father” for the first time and tries to bring him back:
Tumblr media
To conclude with the bridge sequence already mentioned when Vader chooses to be Anakin all over again.
WOW.
And where does it all take Luke? To a water planet with NO bridges. Seriously. When VII opens, Luke has chosen to sever, metaphorically speaking, all the links to others. As if he had chosen to destroy every bridge that could connect him to Leia and the rest of the world. And when we see him going about the island, there are no bridges. He jumps from one cliff to the other. Interesting thing is on The Art of The Last Jedi you get to see some of the art concepts that they had for Ahch-To that included a lot of variation on bridges:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But eventually they went for the very design that removed any bridge from the place that Luke has chosen to spend the remaining days of his life until his death. Which is, I must say, a very good choice. He disconnected himself from the Force, he disconnected from people he loved not telling them where he hid, it made absolutely no sense to put him on a place that was covered with bridges. The bridges were meant to be burned.
That is... until one very last moment. Which is the perfect segway into my next chapter... Until the end. When he projects himself for one final face-off with his nephew. And that is a big bridge metaphor about reaching out across the stars. And we know that when Luke is on a bridge with someone he loves, this doesn’t mean harm or spite or revenge. Or even fighting. Bridges in SW are not so much about fancy duels as they are about love. Yep, even in PM. There is the love that Obi-Wan (yes, even a Jedi) feels for his master, and the need to extend and take care of a little boy that is all alone in this galaxy. A leap of faith. Love. Which means...
The ST is about crossing that bridge
Yes, there are bridges in the ST. And how Kylo and Rey are going to be able to cross over and meet each other. Let me explain. This happens at the end of VII:
Tumblr media
Visually, it tells us that there seems to be no possible bridge between the two characters. Yet, the whole point is that they keep on looking towards each other. The bridge, aka the connection, is their eyes (mirrors of the soul yadiyada). And sure enough, comes VIII, and the bridge is there. WTF, will you say? What bridge are you raving about. Well... that one...
The Force bond.
And how do I presume calling this a bridge? Because...
It was I who bridged your minds
Interesting choice of words. But there it is. Put it as plainly and simply as you possibly can. The Force bond is a bridge, a spiritual bridge between Kylo and Rey. That’s quite something, right?
Which means that, there may be some physical crossing of some kind in IX. Now, I don’t want to be presumptuous and declare for sure, but it would seem like a logical concept. And on Vic Mahoney’s moodboard...on the left, some of the pictures seem very bridgelike...
Tumblr media
And that’s also where I want to bring in that clever little TV kid show called Star Wars Rebels.
Take it to the Bridge
So Star Wars Rebels came before the release of TFA, in 2014, merely two years after Disney bought LF and therefore all the rights to Star Wars. Let’s look at what they did there and let’s wonder why. I don’t think that it was a random move on their part. They could, after all, have imagined something that took place right before TFA, or come up with the many adventures of Luke and the gang, or even spend more time on the Clone Wars, or go way back in the Old Republic. But no 14 years after ROTS, 5 years before ANH, is the time they chose. And came up with a totally new gang we had never heard of. Except that... well... the new gang got to meet A LOT of familiar faces. From all over the place: Hondo, Rex, Ahsoka, Vader, Leia, Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, Obi-Wan, Darth Maul, Yoda, Lando, C3P0 and R2, Palpatine, just to name a few... The point is that they get to meet people from the PT AND people from the OT. Thus (you know where this is going) bridging story lines. And, surprise surprise, what special name did they choose for their hero? Ezra Bridger. Gosh, that’s not even subtle, there. And by the way, what does Ezra mean? Helper. So Ezra helps bridging... aka, Star Wars Rebels helps bridging, connecting, if you will storylines. Towards a logical conclusion. And what is this conclusion, pray? The ST of course. And who stands on the bridge? Kylo and Rey.
Even better, what particular storyline did they preciously choose to keep to conclude this new Star Wars story:
the return of the Mortis Arc, balance
the World between worlds, and its very specific bridges that cross through time and space, and the possibility to alter the past/future, plus bringing back loved ones
looking for knowledge (last time I checked it was not so much about knowledge in the PT and OT). But Ezra’s story is all about knowledge.
love and sacrifice, saving the people you love (Ahsoka, Kanan, Ezra), and, come on, Hera and Kanan’s baby (by the way, Kanan is very reminiscent of Canaan, the Promised Land, so keep the prophetic aspect in mind)
Tumblr media
Again, how will it play out in IX? I have some ideas but I really can’t tell whether it will show up or not. There have been rumors about an artifact (very SW Rebels) that would require both Kylo and Rey’s powers. So knowledge. So possibly with notions of Mortis implied in there (balance). Love, sacrifice, we have discussed a lot. Remain the bridges. I can totally envision an important scene taking place on a bridge, with Kylo and Rey embracing, or running to each other, or holding hands while everything else around them crumbles. I can also imagine a bridge playing out with an intimate scene as we got in ROTJ in the Ewok village, something akin to the terrace where Anakin and Padmé first kiss on Naboo and finally get married. Again, the film has already been shot. So too late for that already and there’s a fat chance that it won’t even happen. But since we got a bridge of death in VII with Han’s death, we need a bridge of light.
Which might just turn out to be the symbolic bridge of Rey and Kylo coming together and finally uniting the light and the dark sides...
Leaving Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water behind as a great Reylo vibe. Seriously. Reylo vibe, guys!!!!
When you're weary, feeling small When tears are in your eyes, I'll dry them all I'm on your side, oh, when times get rough And friends just can't be found Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down
When you're down and out When you're on the street When evening falls so hard I will comfort you I'll take your part, oh, when darkness comes And pain is all around Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down

Star Wars Episode X will see the heroes face off against an even bigger planet destroying super weapon.
The Death Star was moon-sized
Starkiller Base was planet-sized
The next obvious step forward is to have a star-sized weapon, like a Dyson Sphere (though they can’t call it that because there is no Dr. Freeman Dyson in Star Wars).  It’ll be a colossal ring system around a star like this
Tumblr media
And the laser dish will be the size of a planet, and it will be able to destroy not just one planet, or several, but entire solar systems.  It will shoot at the host star and the laser will cause it to go supernova and explode all the planets orbiting it, or it’ll turn it into a black hole, but like a sci-fi black hole that sucks up everything around it for an big action set piece.
There will be some really on-the-nose line about how the only way to defeat it is to use the light side, meaning that the heroes have to fly into the sphere to attack the hollow shell from inside.  It’s one weakness will be a single squad of x-wing fighters (led by one of the three protagonists of course), which will be able to blow it up like its nothing, and when the heroes take it out it will either collapse into the star or it’ll explode and create a big nebula around it.
Then in Episode XII there will be yet more powerful planet destroying super weapons even worse than this one.  BINARY SUN WEAPONS!  Is that two of these Dyson spheres, or is that one big Dyson sphere that encompasses both stars?  Who knows who cares? Certainly not the writers; they’re not real threats, they’re just meant to look intimidating before they get blown up.  They’ll be taken out super easy by Lando and some side characters while the main three do their own things (two of them will take down a shield of some kind, one will face off against the emperor)
What will they call this super weapon Dyson sphere?
Probably something dumb and fan-servicey like the Whill Engine or Imperial March of Progress
Whatever it’s called, it will pale in comparison to the super weapon they unveil in Episode XIII!

Okay I have connected the two dots hear me out... so in the new tv spot where finn is screaming out for poe it looks like they’re on star killer base?¿? Idk but basically it looks like it’s the same scene where you see them dodging laser fire down a corridor SO my theory is that he’s screaming bc poe gets hit by a blaster and finn runs to him as you can see in the SPOT and so finn is the one that tends to his arm period jj I’ve cracked it
wait hold on👀👀 maybe you’re onto something It’s hard to determine what’s first the desert scene or the star killer base scene but maybe it goes desert, star killer base and then the scene when they’re looking at the death star cause Poe is wearing the scarf around his neck in the desert scene and the starkiller base scene but not the death star scene so maybe you’re right and poe get’s injured and perhaps Finn is the one help him we’re connecting the dots
