YA writers get really dramatic trying to establish how devoted their love interests are to each other but no one has ever written anything as awesome as re-animating a bunch of dinosaurs and leading them on a rampage through a palace

Did someone say something about Tortall ficlets!?? I'd love one for Daine x Numair, sometime after Realms of the Gods, just living together without any drama!
(I don't have either of their voices down well, but I did my best!)
The most astonishing thing about being with Daine, showing his love without worry of much more than a few raised eyebrows, was how entirely normal most of it seemed.
Numair had had his dalliances, but they rarely fit so easily into his life, and too often they expected him to be someone he wasn’t. Daine still sat with him and talked over magical theory until she got sick of it, sighed at him and forced him to eat when he’d spent a day deep in a magical working, and spent hours with Onua and the ponies of the Queen’s Riders, or otherwise busy with her work. Sometimes the king or Sir Myles would have a job for her, or for him, and they’d miss each other terribly for a few days, and it was all shockingly normal.
Only the late nights, when they finished their work, were different. They didn’t go back to different beds, and what happened in their shared one was a delight, much as Numair sometimes tried to give Daine the chance to sleep on her own if she wanted. Daine, as she so often did when he was just trying to be responsible, tended to scoff and call him silly and do exactly as she pleased.
“Isn’t this odd for you, how things have changed?” he blurted out one night, and was immediately grateful that Kitten was occupied with Tkaa for the evening.
Daine, reading a book about livestock diseases, looked up and tilted her head at him. “Why should it be odd? Things have been changing fair frequently, these past few years.”
Numair stared at her, attempted several sentences, and gave them all up in sequence. Sometimes he wondered if it was part of the wild magic, her ability to say things in such a way to make him feel foolish despite being one of the most powerful men on the continent. “It feels normal,” he said.
After a moment, Daine shut her book. “First it’s odd, now it’s normal. Normally I only lose track of what you’re saying when you start talking like one of these books. What do you mean?”
“It feels like it should have changed everything, letting myself be in love with you. Instead, we’re still sitting and reading our books and doing our work.” Numair couldn’t help his grin. “Though of course a few things have changed.”
Daine grinned back before her face fell into more serious lines. He gave her a moment to think, and she drummed out a pattern on the cover of the book with her fingers, keeping them from falling fully into silence. “Why should that be strange? We’ve been family, pack, whatever you want to call it, a long time. We love each other a little differently now, but like you said, things have changed to fit that. The rest makes sense. “You’re just thinking too much about it.”
Numair considered several responses, from laughing to writing all of that down for a philosophical treatise on love to kissing her, and after a few seconds of judicious thought, decided on the kissing. Like everything else about loving Daine, it made him feel as fluttery as a schoolboy and as settled as a man long married all at once. She was a contradiction and he’d never be able to explain to her how much. “You’re right,” he said eventually, “I am thinking too much. Perhaps we’d better do something about it.”
“One thing that’s changed,” Daine complained with a grin on her face that said she wasn’t really complaining, “is that we both get much less done.”
“A change I very much welcome,” he assured her, and let her lead him to bed.

Stealing this from @capitalnineteen !
Comfort movie: Hmmm...maybe Tangled?  Pride and Prejudice.  I don’t watch a lot of movies but I’m always down to watch those.  Wait--Rise of the Guardians!  I love that one.  Something animated for sure.
Comfort food:  Saffron rice.  Or anything Persian, really.
Comfort clothes: Leggings and a really oversized grandpa cardigan in olive green.
Comfort song: Running Up That Hill but the Placebo cover only.  Try Again by Keane.  A Conversation With God by Darren Hayes.  My December by Linkin Park.  J’ai Demande A La Lune by Indochine.  And We Are Bulletproof: the Eternal by BTS.  Literally impossible to name just one song, music is critical to my wellbeing.
Comfort book: Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami.  I know it’s very flawed and basic bitch, but it came to me at a time I needed it and left a strong impression.  I read it a lot.  Otherwise...Lirael by Garth Nix and the Daine and Numair series (Wild Magic??) by Tamora Pierce.
Comfort game: Currently it’s Animal Crossing, but I play a lot of Dragon Age and Pokemon when I need to just be, peacefully.  DA: Inquisition and Pokemon X in particular.  And sometimes Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.
What have we learned?  That I am incapable of being brief!
Tagging: @dannypinot @seriouslydidijustdothat @themushroomblues
@strikercorbie @rini-bear @cavalryofwoah and literally anyone else who wants to.  Tag me in your answers, I love to read them!

I recently started reading The Immortals by Tamora Pierce because of Tempest and Slaughter and I can definitely say I despise Daine and Numair’s relationship.
It’s not the massive age gap, because I’ve written quite larger ones (due to species differences), but it’s the power that Numair holds over Daine as her mentor. I’m all for student/teacher shit; it was the basis for my main universe, in fact.
I know they’re meant to be romantic and all, but I’m on Wolf-Speaker and I can’t read their relationship any way other than familial. I think it’s because I can’t see Numair with anyone because he still has major feelings for Ozorne even after whatever happened between them.

sometimes i think the only thing you need to know about my fandom habits is that darcy x lizzie and mulder x scully were my two most formative ships.
and sometimes i think the only thing you need to know about me is that daine x numair awakened something within me that was very enlightening

or ooh headcanons about daine and numair? also I have not yet gotten my hands on the kencyrath but when I do I will be going through your entire tag afterwards, so like, if you wanted to do that one...
DAINE SARRASRI HELL YES.  I’m not sure if you sent in another ask before this one (if so, I didn’t get it), however it seems super unfair to answer your own ask with spoiler-rife Kencyrath yelling.  Also if you’re looking into reading those books, let me take this moment to shamelessly plug the podcast I’m going to be starting.  Anyway, this is the headcanon meme!
HeadcanonIf Daine got paid a copper by every courtier who condescended to her or mistook her for a servant, she could bankroll Numair’s experiments for a year. In the capital, at Pirate’s Swoop, the paces where she spends most of her time, this isn’t a problem because all the local nobility knows Numair and knows Daine and it’s all well and good.  But every time foreign diplomats or distant nobles or gods know who else show up, or they go traveling, Daine’s used to fielding some A-grade bullshit.  She does her best to resolve it on her own–she has a dragon on her heels half the time, it’s not that hard to prove her bonafides–because Numair gets extremely nasty whenever he sees it and frankly he can’t be trusted to focus up afterward. Daine despairs of him.
HeartcanonGod…I really want Daine and Numair to return to Gala at some point, to Snowsdale.  Specifically I want them to go back because Snowsdale needs her, needs the Wildmage to deal with some creature still running rampant after the Immortal War, and I want Snowsdale’s appeal to Tortall for aid to have happened without them ever quite learning the full name of the Wildmage they need.  All these people who turned on Daine, who hunted her like an animal–I want them to fucking face her as the Wildmage of Tortall, a personal friend of kings and emperors, a daughter of gods, a hero of realms.
I fucking crave that shit.
GutcanonNumair was braced for getting lectured nineteen ways to Sunday from the first time Daine kissed him–she’s of age, but he knows exactly what everyone is concerned about.  Frankly he’s glad Daine has such careful people around her (Arram Draper saw more than one promising young mage chewed up and spat out by a careless teacher with lust in their eyes).  That doesn’t make it any less stressful when Thayet, his dear friend and his queen and the most formidable unGifted person he’s ever met in his life, sits down beside him at the banquet to celebrate the end of the war.  She’s dressed in royal blue, a sweeping gown that drapes close to her skin when she’s still and swirls out to reveal yards and yards of cloth when she spins around Jon on the dancefloor, and her black hair is swept up and pinned back with delicate jeweled sticks in the style of her homeland, and she pins him with a stare that leaves no doubt as to her thoughts.
“Your Majesty,” Numair says warily.
“Numair,” Thayet says.  Her voice is calm and strong and queenly, because Thayet is always queenly even when the walls of the world are breaking down.  “I’m sure you can guess why I’m here.”
“I’ve already talked to Alanna, and George, and Ouna, and Buri, and Sarge, and a Stormwing,” Numair said, ticking them off on his fingers.  “And a minor god.  Whatever you’re about to say, I’ve already heard it.”
“I’m sure,” Thayet says.  “Just so we’re clear, though.”  She turns clear, calm eyes on him and lays her hand on his, a tender moment from his warrior queen.  “I wish you both all the joy in the world.  And if I ever hear that you were less than honorable with her, I’ll make Ozorne’s tender care look like a week at a hot spring.  Understood?”
“I wouldn’t stop you, Your Majesty,” Numair says sincerely.
“That’s very much what I’m counting on.”  Thayet gives him a clap on the shoulder as she stands and sweeps away, and Numair leans forward and takes deep breaths until his head stops spinning.
JunkcanonSometimes when they’re bored or frustrated with court life or just a little stir crazy, Daine and Numair shapeshift into birds and fly away to somewhere Away From People for the day.  Daine hasn’t been feral in a long time, but there’s still a part of her that loves lying out in the sun, naked, feeling the wind in her hair and the grass on her skin and not thinking about her responsibilities for a while.
Numair also enjoys this practice.
SpleencanonI haven’t read Numair’s books yet but: he and Ozorne dated when they were younger.  I don’t mean they held hands and exchanged shy kisses in the garden, either, I mean that Ozorne didn’t give a damn what (or who) Arram Draper did with his time as long as he always came back to the crown prince’s chambers, and that Ozorne threaded his fingers through Arram’s long black hair and pulled to expose the sweep of his throat and told grand stories about how Ozorne would be Emperor and Arram would sit at his right hand, his best adviser and prized weapon, the Black Mage to Ozorne’s Emperor Mage, and that Ozorne never forgave him for leaving.
No one can fucking tell me otherwise.

Anybody thought of Adam Driver as Numair? Both tall awkward dorks (not that I prefer it over any other fancast but I'm intrigued)

I’ve been struggling to make my way through Wild Magic because of Num*ir which really sucks honestly
I’m not sure I’ll be able to read Daine’s quartet again, I can’t help but be uncomfortable reading about the Daine-Num*ir interactions in WM because they feel so father-daughterish but I know where the later books go
which sucks because I really like the idea of wild magic and I wish Num*ir had stayed like this, in the mentor role
sidenote: surprisingly, Miri has a bigger role then I remembered; I think she’s pretty absent (or completely absent) from the next three books (obviously wouldn’t expect her in Emperor Mage) but she showed up more than I remembered in WM

Send me drabble prompts, maybe? And I'll look at them and try to write tomorrow. Can be OTP or not, idc either way. I'm a sucker for AUs, especially city witches or other urban magic. Fandoms: Les Mis (ExR mainly, but will absolutely consider others), HP (Drarry, Luna/Ginny, Ginny/basically anyone, Remus/Sirius, etc), Tortall (mainly Daine/Numair, my terrible children), Repo (probably mostly AUs on this one), Labyrinth (okay I know Jareth/Sarah is trash but), Star Wars TFA (Jedistormpilot is 10/10), maybe Dragon Age.

watching that episode where agent booth pretends to be dead and doesn’t tell bones, and it just reminds me of my absolute favorite version of this plot in emperor mage
“why didn’t you tell me?”
“i have no idea. i think i forgot.”
(which of course paves the way for the rampage of zombie dinosaurs)

Now that I've finally read it, the four immortals books :D
Favourite female character: Daaaaaine
Favourite male character: hmm, not sure, but … oh wait, no, it has to be Rikash. I’m pretty sure I cried over him as a kid. What an arc, omg
Least favourite female character: I didn’t care for Numair’s ex.
Least favourite male character: somewhat tediously, Ozorne. But he’s so unpleasant and just won’t go away.
Favourite ship: I’m really not shippy at all about these? It’s hard to think of anything.
Least favourite ship: Numair/Daine. Sorry, friends who like it, but it’s one of those that I was all YAY ROMANCE about as a kid and got increasingly creeped out by as I grew older, and especially as I became a college teacher.
Book rating: 8.5/10! There are some writing choices that I have quibbles with, and Tamora Pierce is never quite top-notch for me, but what’s great in it is really great in a deliciously tropey way.

C, N, X
Thank you! :D
C. A pairing you wish you shipped, but just can't.
Anything from Avatar the Last Airbender/Legend of Korra. Aang/Katara, Katara/Zuko, Korra/Asami, I'm just like 😐100% cold on all of it. I wonder how much the live-action will lean into the romance. I hope none tbh.
N: Your favourite fandom (for the people; not the thing you fangirl over).
Lucifer! Very welcoming fandom, great group of people. Extremely talented writers/artists in that fandom. I did join the Fili Hircus discord group, which was a lot of fun even though I am terrible at discord, and there were just all around meaningful conversations and though-provoking discussions. I can't think of anyone I encountered who was negative or dramatic or toxic. It's probably the most positive fandom I've ever been a part of.
X: 3 OTPS from 3 different fandoms.
Arthur/Merlin (Merlin) — they're canon, every single modern setting/reincarnation fic is ALSO canon, and I won't be convinced otherwise.
Luke/Lorelai & Rory/Jess (Gilmore Girls) — couldn't decide so I put both as they were very formative in my teenage years. Gilmore Girls, unfortunately, does NOT really hold up well on rewatch, and that Year in the Life special was like a magnifying glass on everything wrong with the show. But it's got a special place in my heart.
Daine/Numair (Tamora Pierce/The Immortals) — Showstopping. Inspirational. So what if she's 16 and he's like 28 and they've got the whole teacher/student thing going on. My copy of Realms of the Gods has a broken spine from that one chapter where she falls off a cliff and then they make out. If they ever make that Tortall TV series and get around to Daine's story they'll probably age her up/him down lmao, the cowards

1, 4, 5, and 12 for the ask game!
Thank you, @hallowedportal! ♥
1. What would you say is your top fandom right now?
Descendants! It’s the top fandom of the rest of my life tbh. I will never care about another fandom as much as I care about Descendants. This is simply A Fact. (I am trying to help revive another little fandom for an OTP atm, but that’s a side project.)
4. What are your top three ships across any fandoms?
Jaylos! It’s a very, very close tie with Rotten OT4, but I admit Jaylos owns me lol.
Sinja, or Sinbad x Ja’far (from Magi the Labyrinth of Magic and Sinbad no Bouken)
Daine x Numair (from Tamora Pierce’s “The Immortals” quartet, set in the Tortall universe)
I’m not actually involved in the fandom for Dumair (that might not even be their ship name, I really don’t know), BUT I have shipped the fuck out of them since 2005 or so? It’s been a while. I don’t venture into the fandom because I’m pretty happy with how the ship panned out in the books. They were endgame from the start, so I was lucky for that. I love their quartet so fucking much. I re-read the books every few years at minimum. They’re not perfect, but I do adore them.
The Sinja fandom is one I lurked when it was at peak around… 2014 - 2016? I decided to revisit it recently and, well, it’s… I refuse to call it dead because there’s definitely a few people rowing the boat (and bless them for it), but yeah. :’)
5. Do you have a favorite character “type?” What do your favorite characters have in common?
Answered here!
12. Do you have any themes in characters you ship? (two archetypes together, poly relationships, mlm or wlw, etc)
Answered here! ♥
