Norm is his social worker who he has a good relationship with, despite Norm being pretty unable to find anyone to adopt him

Yes, Jake and Neytiri are one of the families who ended up fostering Spider as a teenager

He has asthma, which can occasionally flare up so he always carries his inhaler

His style is lots of oversized baggy clothes, a hoodie here or there but mostly bold t shirts, very grunge, very tumblr boy. His look reflects the care and attention he's gotten as a kid, which is obviously not a lot

Deffs has his ears pierced but hasn't braved his first tattoo yet

Plays guitar and can sing, but hates to do it in front of people

He's pretty musically talented all around, he once picked up piano pretty well

Very artistic, he definitely has a sketch book hidden somewhere and the sketchbook definitely includes Kiri's portrait more than once. The kind of kid that always has graphite on his fingertips

Skateboarder - so he can roll away from his problems

Plaits his hair in cool styles, loves incense, would be into Yoga however he's never had the space or the vulnerability to try it in any of his foster homes.

Very popular at the children's home, lots of the younger kids look up to him and he has some cool friends his own age from there as well

Bright in school, though he can be cheeky so ends up in a few detentions, definitely has ADHD as well (high functioning)

when Norm called Jake and Neytiri and asked if they were willing to foster a kid for a few weeks, Lo'ak was Not Impressed

Tuk was delighted and Kiri and Neteyam were skeptical

The kid really needed fostering though due to a safeguarding concern (oh no Papa Miles found out where the children's home is but isn't allowed to see him so the only other option was to send Spider away across the country to another children's home)

As soon as Spider walked in the door Lo'ak knew they were gonna be thick as thieves, all trepidation vanished

Neytiri gives a warm welcome, but allows Jake and the kids to show Spider around. She definitely never tries to mother him, and Spider can feel that, it doesn't bother him (most of the time)

Jake is definitely in a wheelchair, and when he sees Spider's skateboard tucked under his arm on the doorstep he knows there's gonna be some wheel jokes

Spider is of course always respectful but the kid has banter, and Kiri and Lo'ak are all over it

Jake finds out his fave food is peanut butter and makes peanut butter chicken one night. The fam have never tried it before but it's an instant hit

Lo'ak and Spider sneak out together all the time, hanging around street corners and parking lots at night, and sometimes Kiri comes too

Spider got Lo'ak into skateboarding, Lo'ak eventually ditches his bike

Tuk is enamoured by Spider's hair, she thinks it's really pretty. Spider is great with her, because he has so much experience with younger kids in the children's home

Spider loved Kiri no doubt, but he's ace af so never thinks of her in that way. Kiri loves him back easily and they just know their souls align.

Someone at school once started taking the piss out of how friendly Kiri and Spider were, esp that they were foster siblings, and Lo'ak punched the guy square in the jaw, causing a big fight in the hallway and Lo'ak to get suspended for a day

Spider looks up to Neteyam, a little bit wary of him at first when he moved in, but doesn't see much of him since he's older and keeps himself to himself a lot

Neteyam will be going off to college soon (he's like 17 in this AU purely for the older bro vibes) and Spider can see that he wants that for himself as well, eventually

one time Neteyam catches Lo'ak and Spider sneaking in at like 3am from the skatepark and says that as long as they don't do it again he won't snitch on them

Neteyam notices a car parked on the street outside their house over a few days that seems kinda sus, and he mentions it to Jake, who tells Norm, who tells social services, because what do you know, it couldn't possibly be the dangerous Papa Miles stalking his son could it?? May I please request headcanons for Nana O, Ren, Yasu, and Nobu reacting to their female S/O singing and putting on a performance for her child who's dying from cystic fibrosis?

Oh I remember this episode 🥹

Nana O

She knew you had a child awhile after the two of you met and were getting to know each other but she didn't know that you had a very sick and chronically ill child that needed so much care

After taking things slow she soon meets your daughter who despite being sick was always carefree and happy and soon the two were inseparable and adopted your daughter before she went shopping for an engagement ring with her friend who is also called Nana and her friend Yasu

She helped you care for your daughter going with you to every appointment for treatments and checkups,holding you when you cried about how much you were afraid of losing your baby girl,and whenever you were tired or out she would jump in tending to and helping your daughter with whatever was needed

She and her friends along with your family planned to have a singing event in honor of her after the two of you found out her condition was rapidly going downhill and as a way to bring some comfort to her you would sing a song you wrote for her

She sat with your daughter while you singed and after you hugged her tightly while she smiled at both of you with tears in your eyes as she told you she was proud of you

You didn't know how much longer the two of you would have her but you both were going to enjoy every single moment you had left

He never thought he would find love after all that happened with Nana but when he met you boy how wrong he was

After a couple of weeks of slow dating you told him you had a child and you were surprised that he not only seemed happy about it but that he still wanted to keep seeing you and met your son

You had an 11 year old son who was your light in the darkest of tunnels and that you always cared for rarely ever leaving him unless it was with your best friend who was his godmother or your brother who was a great uncle and always had a hand out ready to help you whenever you were overwhelmed and needed a quiet moment to think or whenever you had to work

He knew he wanted kids in his future at the time he met you and soon after awhile you had him and your son meet and soon the two weren't seen without the other

He still loved your son despite him being sick and needing to have constant care and he jumped into learning how to care for him from dosing his medicine and having his machine ready to doing his treatments with him and always treating him no different despite it

As his condition went down hill you would sing to him whenever he was upset and to help him fall asleep so the two of you and his friends planned an event for him

You had been writing a song for him for a couple of years and you decided that even though you hadn't released it you wanted to sing it for your son

You singed with every emotion you felt keeping your emotions in and smiling seeing ren and your son watching you and waving

As soon as your son fell asleep and you sat down in her room beside ren you just sobbed while he held you wishing he could take away all pain not just for you but for your son as well

The two of you married on your grandmother's farm not only because you had been planning to get married for awhile even though there wasn't any proposal but also it was his final wish that he wanted to see

Not too long after he was in the hospital and you spent his last moment as a family until he took his final breath leaving you empty but ren knew as long as he was there with you you would slowly grieve and move on but still think of him everyday

Nobu

He always had a natural charm with kids that he always just had no matter what he could always calm a child down and make them laugh

He had met your daughter when she got hurt while you were preoccupied taking care of your son and didn't know she was gone until you noticed she wasn't beside you making your heart stop

You quickly look to see a blonde man smiling and talking to your daughter putting a bandaid on her and giving her chocolate after tickling her making her laugh loudly

"There you are" he looks at you immediately not believing the woman in front of him who looked more like an angel than a real human

The two of you run into each other again and within the next few months the two of you are dating and after another 3 months both your kids are calling him dad and it makes him the happiest person alive

As a surprise on your two year anniversary of being together he proposed to you and 5 months later you are married and he adopted both of your kids always taking care of them both especially your son who has been sick for 3 years now

The two of you plan a concert for him for his birthday and you sing a song you had written when you found out you were pregnant with him and sung it while he and his band and friends played with you

Both kids were watching with your sister right in front of both of you and ran into the both of your and his arms as your eyes filled with tears and started crying

You were always going to be terrified of the day that you would lose your son but no matter what you were not going to let it ruin the rest of the time the two of you had left with him

Yasu

He helped take care of his young cousins and his friends kids a bit so he had a way with children but never thought or knew whether he would have any of his own

He met you through nana considering that you were a childhood friend of hers and the closest thing to a sister she had and knew the two of you would be a great pair

You both fell immediately in love with each other but waited until after slowly dating and being together for 2 months to officially have him and your daughters meet each other

He knew about your 10 and 7 year old daughters but never met them so he didn't know what to think but when he saw them the trio immediately became attached at the hip with each other

He immediately helps and takes care of your eldest daughter who has been sick for a month now but also shows the same amount of care and love for your other daughter as well

After dating for 12 months the two of you got married and the next month he adopted both your daughters living the life either of you didn't think you each would have

Soon your eldest who is now 13 has slowly gotten sicker and in honor of her you and Yasu along with his friends performed a song you wrote for her and performed it on her birthday making her day

The two of you were going to hold the time you had left with her dear and still love your 10 year old and your future child that was on the way

Headcanons for sir pentious, vox, and angel dust with a physically disabled daughter (specifically missing an arm or a leg, that's up to you broski)

leave it to me to find obscure physical disabilities for the sake of writing fan fiction. I took pre-nursing for this.

Sir Pentious

-you were born with Angelman Syndrome, inherited from your mother.

-you very rarely spoke, you had issues with movement and you were restless.

-Pentious couldn't do anything to force you to speak more than you could, but he built you braces so you could walk, and installed a television to keep your attention so you wouldn't try to run around his lab, knocking over viles when your arm jerked involuntarily.

Vox

-you were born with Cystic Fibrosis, inherited from your mother.

-you experienced repeated chest and lung infections and had difficulty digesting food, sometimes vomiting food in a thick mucus.

-Vox is loaded so he can get you the therapy and treatments you need. CF isn't curable but therapy and medication can help. When you got ill he was always there holding your hand.

Angel Dust

-you were born with oculocutaneous albinism, inherited from your father. You were born with pink and white skin and white hair.

-you were very sensitive to light and needed special glasses to see okay, you wore sunglasses in well lit rooms and you had photophobia, sensitivity to bright lights.

-your father is also albino so he gets it. he works extra hours to afford your glasses and eye appointments and was always by your side when you had to go out to make sure you weren't over exposed.

Criminal Minds OC

I've posted a bit about a wife I made for Spencer Reid and wanted to post some more of her to help with my writer's block.

Eleanor Campbell is an OC of mine that I made back in 2020 and have slowly been writing a fanfiction on Wattpad (no judgement plz). She's in the show since season 1 (mostly because that's like my fav season) and is an expert on child psychology and development.

She's a character of mine that I absolutely love and have made many headcanons about and so I would love to share some because I doubt all of them will make their way into the story.

-Starting with she knows 3 languages: English, Spanish, and Persian -She's the second oldest of her family. Having an older brother, a younger sister, and finally a younger brother. -Her father is a first-generation American citizen. His parents where from Iran and moved to the US before he was born. -Her mother moved to the US from Mexico when she was 3 years old with her parents and 4 sisters. -At the start of the show/story Eleanor is the closest with Derek as the two are often paired together in the field. -Second would be Penelope -She was in the process of leaving her first husband, Tyler, when she joined the BAU in 2004 -She has a little boy named Mason with Tyler but the two split during her pregnancy. -Her youngest brother, Leo, has cystic fibrosis of which he died of complications of when Eleanor was 18 -She's made out with most of the BAU ladies while drunk/tips on girls' night. This list includes JJ, Emily, Elle, and Penelope. -Eleanor and Derek call each other their work wife/husband even after Eleanor has married Spencer -Spencer: I don't really think it counts if you actually work with your husband -She did not care and continued to call Derek her work husband. -Eleanor is a known flirt. It's just her personality. She has most definitely made Spencer blush even before she had actual feelings for him. -Spencer fell first but Eleanor most definitely fell harder -Her and Spencer are a hot iconic Bi couple -Spencer is the absolute best step-dad to Mason -They both adore each other -She has a nickname for just about all the members of the BAU -JJ's is Jennybear or some similar vison to it -She calls Derek Hubby or Der -Penelope's are sweets, sweet girl, angle, bebita, or Penny - Elle and her often call each other tons of different things in Spanish depending on their moods -She calls Emily wifey (it annoys Spencer and Derek) or Em -She hates clowns -She really had to work with Spencer on his Spanish pronunciations before her mother heard him and beat her. -Her favorite animal is a Fox -Her favorite color is Yellow -She made the first move on Spencer -But he said I love you first -Eleanor sees a therapist from season two and on -Eleanor was Spencer's first -Eleanor and Spencer have had like 4 bad fights the entire time they've known each other -There are 4 recurring characters that Eleanor doesn't like or get along with.

HEADCANON; RE: DAYNA - Disability Etiquette

If it isn't in character for your muse to know or understand these things, this is okay! I'm not going to be offended, this is just a general FYI/FAQ since Dayna does have a disability.

It's important to note that not everyone has a daily exposure to people with disabilities, whether learning, mental, or physical. its okay to ask questions if something isn't covered here for our interactions.

Please note that persons with special needs are not considered persons with a disability. people with special needs can have disabilities though, though this is not covered in this headcanon/PSA.

Learning Disabilities - This type of disability means that a person has difficulties in  one or more areas of learning, even when overall intelligence or motivation is not affected. These are often identified in children and help is provided through the school system. These can be, but are not limited to : Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia  and encompass:

Difficulty telling right from left

Reversing letters, words, or numbers, after first or second grade

Difficulties recognizing patterns or sorting items by size or shape

Difficulty understanding and following instructions or staying organized

Difficulty remembering what was just said or what was just read

Lacking coordination when moving around

Difficulty doing tasks with the hands, like writing, cutting, or drawing

Difficulty understanding the concept of time

Mental Disabilities - This type of disability is also known as a Mental Disorder or Psychiatric Disabilities. 1 in every 8 people in the world live with a mental disorder. These can include but are not limited to: Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) , Schizophrenia, Eating Disorders, Disruptive behaviors, and dissocial disorders.

Physical Disabilities - this type of disability is an impairment in a person's body structure or function. 1 in 6 people live with a physical disability. These include but are not limited to: Acquired brain injury, Spinal cord injury , Spina bifida, Cerebral palsy, Cystic fibrosis, Epilepsy, Multiple sclerosis, Muscular dystrophy,Tourette syndrome, and dwarfism.

What is important to note is that the proper ettiquette of interacting with a person with a physical disability is really rather simple. It is normal not to know how to act around a person who uses adaptive equipment such as a wheelchair, a walker or other assistive devices, or prosthetics. This is because it isn't societally taught unless you yourself are exposed on a regular basis. when interacting with a person with a disability remember the rule of thumb-- people are people, no matter what.

For Dayna, her wheelchair is a fantastic tool to help her get around and maintain her independence.

Make Eye Contact - Never intentionally ignore someone in a wheelchair. People with disabilities deserve acknowledgement and respect too. Sometimes people feel awkward or think they are doing something wrong, such as staring, when directly involved with a person with disability and/or their caregiver and will refuse to make eye contact. Make eye contact, whether you choose to smile, nod, or say a greeting.

Speak Normally - Sometimes ignoring a person in a wheelchair not only comes with lack of eye contact but will refuse to speak to them, instead talking above them, ignoring them, patronizing them, or only speak to the caregiver, able-bodied friends, or family with the wheelchair user. This is really rude. A person with a physical disability does not always have special needs and vise versa. Take the time to engage in conversation and include the wheelchair user rather than literally talking over their head.

DON'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS - while its fairly obvious that Dayna definitely needs a wheelchair, in real life this is a little more complicated. Don't ever assume you know a wheelchair user's ability better than they do. It's possible that they are in a wheelchair because of debilitating back pain and can only walk short distances. They may have a disorder that can put them at a health risk if they overexert themselves. Just because you have the ability to walk the 300 feet from the front of the store to the back doesn't mean that someone who needs a wheelchair can. The only assumption you should make is that a person needs their wheelchair to maximize their mobility and maintain their independence.

Respect Personal Space - Most often with the expect height difference between a person in a seated position and a person standing up any unsolicited or nonconsensual touching can feel violating and patronizing. Do not touch, lean on, push, or handle a wheelchair unless you are specifically asked to do so. A wheelchair user might need help wheeling over thresholds or up curbs where ramps are not immediately accessible or maintained ( concrete corrosion, hard gravel, etc). They will let you know what they need help with and how to safely help them if you've never done so. If they don't ask, DON'T TOUCH. Because the wheelchair is a mobility tool its often viewed as an extension of themselves and their body. You wouldn't touch someone else's body without their consent, so have the same respect for the chair.

Be Appropriate When Offering to Help - Just because you do something one way doesn't mean that a person in a wheelchair will. A person in a wheelchair is often high independent and has alreayd found new and unique ways to accomplish the same task able-bodied people can. However, if you see them struggling to accomplish a task, it's okay to ask if they need help. Just be RESPECTFUL. Always give them time to give you a response before you spring into action to help. Respect their answer as well.

Sit Down for Longer Conversations - Let's be honest. if someone is taller than you, or is standing while your sitting, it gets tiring to look up. It's also the way we talk to children. So, if you plan on a long conversation, offer to go somewhere where you both can sit down and be eye level with one another. Never squat or get down on your knees unless they ask you to. Chances are, they won't, because respect goes both ways. If they do, it might be because they need to read your lips to understand what you're saying if they have a hearing impairment, or chairs simply aren't available and they want to give you their full attention. They'll let you know what they prefer! Just remember to be courteous.

Allow a Wheelchair User to Help - if you're doing an activity or are in a group doing something and they ask if anyone needs help, let them help! they are fully aware of their capabilities. Everyone likes to be included. Give them choices . i;e " these are the things that still need done : x, y, z. Which would you like to do?". Everyone likes to be helpful, not helpless. They might do the tasks differently than you would. Don't make corrections once they've completed the task and don't rush them. If you wouldn't want someone to do it to you, don't do it to them.

Don't Use Accessible Parking Spots or Restroom stalls - Often times these spaces are reserved for people with disabilities, expectant mothers, or people with small children. If you aren't these people, don't use them! also try not to park next to shopping cart return spots. People with mobility disorders and the elderly depend on quick accessibility to shopping carts and utilize them as a mobility aide to safely walk into the store since accessible parking isn't always readily available. Just be mindful of your surroundings.

ALWAYS FEEL FREE TO ASK - if there is something you aren't sure of, or are not sure how to act, ASK. Remember to be respectful, but no question is a stupid question. Asking shows that you care and have their best interests in mind. This is how you can learn what to do when specific circumstances should arise. There's no shame in asking questions, even personal ones. Just specify why your asking the question if you feel it might be rude. Your normal might not be their normal and vise versa. Good communication is always the best policy.

Having cystic fibrosis isn’t the easiest thing in the world, especially since you were diagnosed a little later in life. Between the lung physiotherapy several times a day, the frequent infections, and the constant worry from your family and your boyfriend’s family. It’s like they all think you’ll drop dead tomorrow just because you need to be on oxygen and can’t be around anyone who’s sick.

“Are you sure you’re gonna be alright, Y/N? You haven’t even done your treatment yet, I can postpone going out for a little while …”

You roll your eyes, “Jay, I’m pretty sure I know how to put on my own vest. I did have to do this before you and I got together. Dad made sure that Roy and I knew how to do this just in case he wasn’t there to help.”

“I know that, but I still don’t like leaving you here alone. What if you choke while you’re coughing up the mucus? Or what if you need something while you’re hooked up?” Jason hovers over you, making sure that the oxygen is firmly in your nose before he helps you slide the vest on.

“You’re even more of a mother-hen than Roy is, you know that? I do know how to take care of myself, I’m not a child” Flicking the machine on so it makes your entire torso vibrate as you glance up at Jason, “If you really want to feel useful, go get me a glass of water for afterwards, and hand me the remote, please?”

Jason’s smile softens, and he leans down to press a kiss to your forehead, “Alright, babygirl, whatever you want. Remember if you need anything, I’m just a phone call away, and Roy’s in the city tonight, so he might be coming over after Patrol”

“Perfect! Have all the guys come over! I’d say have the girls come over too, but Cas is in China, Steph is in San Francisco, and Bab’s is having a family night with her dad”

“I will, Dick has been buggin’ me about stopping by, and Damian has been threatening to kidnap you and move you to the Manor, even the Replacement has been bugging me for a visit. I even made sure he went to the doctor and got a clean bill of health before he was allowed come over.”

You can’t help but roll your eyes at Jason’s paranoia, “Just because he doesn’t have a spleen, and gets sick easier doesn’t mean he can’t come visit whenever he wants.”

“I don’t want you to get sick, Y/N. Last time you ended up in the hospital!”

The vibrations from the vest make your voice come out a little warped, “I’m always gonna end up in the hospital, Jay! I have a chronic disease! That’s just what’s gonna happen!” You roll your eyes at Jason’s crossed arms, “You’re such a pain in my ass, Jay. Go out on Patrol, I’ll be here when you get back and we’ll watch movies with everyone, okay?”

“Alright, fine. Whatever you say, babygirl” He leans down and presses another kiss to your forehead before sliding the window open and swinging out of it.

It’s around two in the morning when everyone finally swings in through the unlocked living room window.

“Dude, I know you’re always saying that you Bats don’t need any help, but an eye in the sky is always something good to have. Just as backup, you know!!”

Dick rolls his eyes at Roy, “If we let anyone with arrows into this city, B would have us all sent to Arkham for going insane!”

“Father would never allow someone trained by Queen to protect this city, it needs only the best vigilantes” Damian rolls his eyes at the red-haired archer and starts peeling off his domino mask.

You let out snort, “If you’re not nice I won’t let you in my blanket fort, Dami.”

Roy grins, “Thanks, little sis! At least I know someone will always have my back! Us Queens need to stick together around all these damn Bats”

“Did you seriously drag all the cushions off the couch, and drag all the stuff from our bed to make your fort? I hope you know that I’m not cleaning this up for you”

Knowing that they won’t work on your boyfriend, you turn to look at your brother, “Aw come on! Stop with the puppy dog eyes, that’s cheating!” Roy groans and collapses inside the fort with you, “Fine, I’ll help you clean-up tomorrow since your boyfriend’s an asshole”

Tim snorts, “Everyone knows Jason’s an asshole, Roy, come on that’s old news”

“What did I say? Be nice, or you get kicked out of the fort. Everyone is being kicked out anyway, I’m not cuddling with a bunch of people still wearing Kevlar”

All of the boys settle in around you after changing into more comfortable clothes, “Did you take your meds today, Y/N?”

“Yeah, Dick, I did. I have reminders in my phone to take them, you guys really don’t need to worry about me. And yes, Roy, I already used my vest tonight, so you don’t need to worry about that either.”

“I make sure she’s taken care, guys, I’m not just going to let her die!” Jason rests his arm over your shoulders, being careful to avoid your oxygen tubing.

“You guys do realize that I’m a functioning adult that can take care of her own treatment, right? I pinky promise that I take care of myself and am doing my best to live” You turn back to the TV and cue up Netflix, “Now, stop worrying about me. I promise I’ll let you know if I’m about to die, but right now I want to watch cheesy Rom-Coms and cuddle”

“Alright, alright. We’ll leave you alone tonight … as long as you drink one of those nutrient shakes that the doctor gave you” Tim smirks when you let out a groan, “Come on, I’ll make popcorn too”

“Fine! If it’ll get you guys to leave me alone! Geeze, you’re worse than my Dad sometimes”

Roy lets out barking laugh, one leg reaching out to nudge you, “No need to be insulting, Y/N. Go and grab the snacks, Tim, we’ll wait to start the movie for you”

“Hurry up though! If you take too long I’ll fall asleep before we even start the movie”

Y/N falls asleep half way through “To All the Boys I've Loved Before”, curled up on her side and partially in Jason’s lap.

“Just turn it off, man. I’m about to pass out and you know she’ll be pissed if we watch the ending without her, at this point we’ll have to watch the whole damn movie over again” Roy has already spread himself over the bare couch with one of the blankets from the fort.

Dick nods, “He’s right, Tim, just turn it off and go to sleep. It’s almost four, so that doesn’t mean sitting up and working on cases, that means actual sleep.”

“I demand pancakes for breakfast if I am to sleep on the floor like a heathen. Todd, do you have the ingredients for pancakes?”

“I don’t know, Dami, maybe? I’ll look tomorrow morning and if I don’t we’ll either go out for breakfast or I’ll run to the store. Is that acceptable, little prince?”

“I suppose it is.”

“Whatever, demon, everyone shut up I’m trying to sleep” Tim puts a pillow over his head and curls into the smallest ball possible.

“All of you better shut up. If you wake up Y/N I’m gonna kick your ass. Got it? Good, now go the fuck to sleep”

“So grumpy, Little Wing, geeze goodnight”

Soon everyone is asleep, somehow touching at least one other person. No one is awake to notice the dark shadow that hovers briefly outside the still unlocked window, checking to make sure everyone he cares about is safe before he turns in for the night.

In the Apex Discord server I'm in me and my friend @imagineapexlegends were talking about the possibility of Caustic having Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and I'm going crazy for it.

- First of all if you don't know what Cystic Fibrosis is it is a genetic condition that causes mucus to build up in the lungs and can also affect how someone absorbs nutrients. There are many different types of strains of CF some are more respiratory while others are more nutritional.

- I see Caustic having a mild respiratory strain of CF, his terrible coughing being a side effect of said CF.

- Keeps his condition a secret from the other legends the last thing he wants to do is show any form of weakness around them.

- His gas mask can also act has a mask for his treatments. (People with CF need to take breathing treatments every day during these treatments they also wear a vest that helps loosen the mucus in their lungs)

- Treatments are loud as fuck. Everyone can hear them and they think Caustic is doing science stuff in his room Nope! It's just him taking a treatment.

- Caustic hates the winter cause it's the worst time for people with CF the cold air is harmful, sickness spreads everywhere, and you gotta take extra treatments.

- He develops into a neat/clean freak because he hates it when he gets sick people with CF have weak immune symptoms and if they do get sick it gets bad (like a common cold can get you in the hospital)

- Keeps all of his medications both pills and liquid for his treatments very organized and marked when they need to be taken so he never misses one.

- This goes with the headcanon that Caustic has a daughter, but his daughter is also born with CF and he feels like it's his fault (even though genetics don't work like that)

- If his daughter does have CF Caustic would have to stay away from her because in most situations two people with CF cannot be near each other or they will both get very sick.

- Last one is kinda morbid but most people with CF only live to their 30s  (some people can live older than this but that is the average) so Caustic is an outlier and I feel like he developed his obsession with death and hatred of life cause his CF is getting worse and he knows he doesn't have a lot of time left...especially if you take in consideration his voice line “I don't consider death cruel but life..” right before he starts having a coughing fit.

I had a lot of fun writing these! My little sister has CF and I love getting any chance to write about it.

When my younger brother was in the hospital after his appendix was removed, I read Harry Potter to him. He’s in college now, but over the years I’ve read HP to all my cousins whenever they were hospitalized. I found your blog when it first started, and it’s been extremely helpful when reading the books to my epileptic cousin and my dyslexic little sister. Now my youngest cousin is ready to read HP but she has cystic fibrosis and I have no clue how that would work at Hogwarts. Any ideas?

Keeping in mind I do not have cystic fibrosis, nor am close with anybody who has it, here are some ideas that popped into my head for how Hogwarts might accommodate those with cystic fibrosis:

Students with CF might have the option for a dorm to themselves, in case they need to be alone to deal or are embarrassed over their coughing. They might also have a personalized bed/area in the hospital wing for after particularly hard days. Of course, they are completely welcome to stay in the student dorms as well.

They probably have a daily or weekly regimen of potions they are supposed to take that are meant to help lessen the mucus/alleviate symptoms.

Giving CF kids brooms to fly around the school, as that takes less energy than walking.

They might have all been told how to get extra meals sent to them if need be.

They might have some specific food or food supplement sent up with their meals meant to try and help them gain weight if necessary.

Their parents are basically “on-call” with the school and may work with the student’s head of house for a visiting schedule, plus coming in during any emergencies.

Hogwarts might have a small wing on call at St. Mungo’s for any infections and sickness where the student needs more than the hospital wing.

Books and writing assignments from professors might be sent up to the hospital wing or St. Mungo’s during absences due to CF.

Parents’ of CF students are regularly sent education schedules, so if their child needs to miss a few days, the parent can work on at least going over potion ingredients or spell theories, even if the child can’t practice or perform at the time.

During bad years, summer school/tutoring may be offered to students with CF to catch up with their peers.

Musically-inclined professors such as Flitwick probably offer music therapy to kids like those with CF and may have an open door policy for the music room, which students are allowed to use during any free time before curfew.

Ace Attorney Ethnicity/Race Headcanons

With AA being originally set in Japan, then haphazardly localized to Los Angeles, the vast majority of the characters seem stuck in a vague limbo. Are they Japanese-American? Are they white? (And if this is supposed to be LA, where the heck are all the other ethnicities??) Well, a whole lot of the cast falls into either of those categories, I think, but certainly not everyone - and I think it’s fun to try and imagine the specifics. Hopefully I’m not being insensitive, and let’s have some fun speculating! (Warning: These are very long.)

Let’s start with the characters that have probable canon ethnicities. It’s pretty clear that the Feys, the Kitakis, the Tenmas, the Toneidos + Bucky Whet, Victor Kudo, Rex Kyubi, and Paul Atishon-Whimperson are all Japanese-American to some degree, with the Feys having some very distant South Asian in their background (owed to Ami originally being Khura’inese). Bikini is the only exception to the Fey rule, and that’s mostly because I think it would be funny for her to be the one white lady who decided to help out at the Japanese spirit channeling village and be inducted as a nun. I think all of them (save Bikini) speak Japanese either fluently or at least a fair amount, except for Paul. Paul touts his and his father’s supposed connection to the “old country” while caring little about the language or traditions or anything else beyond advancing his already pretty pitiful political career.

Thanks to TGAA, we also know for a fact that Ryunosuke is Phoenix’s ancestor in the localized canon, which means that Phoenix is also to some degree Japanese-American. My personal headcanon is that his mom (named Tori Naruhodo) is from Japan, got married there, had Phoenix, then had a messy divorce with her husband, moved with her very young son to America, and raised him there (eventually meeting her future partner, Rita Wright, because I would like to push my agenda of Phoenix having two moms). Phoenix’s last name is actually Naruhodo-Wright, but he usually tells people it’s Wright so it’s shorter on paperwork. Nick knows a little Japanese, but not much - he’s forgotten most of it. (Taketsuchi’s existence proves that the Paynes are at least partially Japanese-American, too.)

Unlike the majority of the English names in the series, which were largely new and pun-based creations, “Edgeworth” is more of a translation of “Mitsurugi” than anything else. As a result, I imagine that Edgeworth’s great-grandparents immigrated to America from Japan, and made an attempt to translate their surname because they feared discrimination and tried to assimilate. Gregory grew up the only Asian kid in a small, heavily white town in Louisiana (because I saw the hc of him having a very slight occasional Southern accent due to his general Atticus Finch vibes and I LOVED that), and moved to Los Angeles to study law, where he would meet his wife, June Waters (who would unfortunately die of complications from cystic fibrosis when Miles was two). While Gregory is fully Japanese (though very disconnected from his culture because of his family’s attempts to assimilate - he’s trying to relearn it), June is white, and thus Miles is half-white, half-Asian.

Metis has heavy Japanese aesthetics, so I imagine she was Japanese-American, too. (Not really relevant, but given the naming theme with her and Athena, I also assumed that A. her husband was named Zeus and B. he was just the WORST, explaining why he’s not around.) And I know this is the world of anime and real-life phenotypic rules are out the window, but given how different Athena looks from her mom, especially the bright orange hair, I also assumed that her father was white, making her half-white, half-Asian as well. However, despite Simon’s similar Japanese aesthetics, much like Bikini, I think it’s funnier to imagine that he (and by extension, Aura) is white, but is just a massive weeb. Enough people seem to hc him, and by extension, Aura, as British that I honestly just roll with it at this point.

The von Karmas are German, obviously (though considering the revelation that they're descended from Karuma, Genshin's former apprentice, they are also part-Japanese and their name was Germanified somewhere along the way - my hc for how that happened is very specific and complicated however so I won't go into it lmao), and save for their overseas lawyering in America, they likely grew up there - but the Gavins have the vibe of “American parents found out they were 3% German on 23 & Me and decided the obvious course of action was to name their children Kristoph and Piano.” The two don’t speak any German, and Klavier hadn’t even been to Germany until he studied abroad there in his late teens - he’s just a weeb for Germany. Thus why he cannot seem to use Achtung correctly, ever, at any time.

The Khura’inese characters (Dhurke, Nahyuta, Rayfa, Ahlbi, etc.) are, naturally, pretty much all South Asian (with Peeslub’n being a white exception since he supposedly joined the religion from outside - though it was entirely for personal gain - situationally he’s just Bikini, But Evil), with all the major characters originating from Khura’in save for Datz, who, since he’s canonically an immigrant, I arbitrarily decided was originally Nepalese, but snuck over the Khura’inese border (and brought all of his Nepalese hip-hop music with him). I also think both Zak and Magnifi are South Asian - and if Magnifi is, that means Thalassa is as well (though she is so light-skinned that I’m gonna argue she had a white mom). This means that Trucy is almost entirely South Asian (and this is why I love fanart of dark-skinned Trucy so much, hell yeah), and Apollo is at least partially so - which is where Jove comes into the picture. One of my other posts talks about how I think his real name is José Justicia, and Jove Justice is just the stage name he adopted while on the road, meaning that Apollo is just the lightest-skinned mixed Latino/South Asian dude ever. (Since he still doesn’t know hardly anything about his parents, I like to think that Apollo wound up spending the entirety of his life thinking he was white, then gets a DNA test and is like “whoa.” Also, all the main characters of AA are now legally non-white, so racists are now banned from playing Ace Attorney. Boom.)

Diego, Dee, and Juan (and I guess Manuel even though he’s barely a character) are all likely supposed to be canonically Latine - the Rivales family is as well, and I like to think they are the mafia that Dee is associated with, and calls upon to threaten Nick in Turnabout Samurai. But I also like to think the Marshall brothers are Latino, too - though, while I think the first three folks speak some degree of Spanish (Diego is fluent in my mind), the Marshall family has lived in California for so long that they no longer really speak any at all - save for the bits of “cowboy Spanish” that Jake likes to throw in his speech in order to seem more authentic (even though he is 100% not an authentic cowboy).

Unfortunately for everyone, the only canon black character is... Marlon Rimes. God help us all. I get that this is a Japanese game, and Japan is not known for their massive thriving black population, but, c’mon, seriously?? So, rather than having the franchise’s only black character be a rapper that tried to murder a dolphin, I like to imagine that two lovable characters - our friends Raymond and Master Jeff - are both half-black, with Raymond being mixed black-and-white (no, I’m totally not projecting), and Jeff being Afro-Latino (inspired by Chad from Bleach lol). I mean, look at their dark skin, and their lovely poofy hair! They don’t look white to me! (Also, I am deeply in love with the concept of these two sharing hair care tips. Ray sometimes running out of time and just sticking his pick under his hat. Adorable.)

Kate’s birth family was French, and I suspect she went to visit them once, only for them to, predictably, be terrible. However, she fell in love with the country, and is trying to reconnect in her own way, even as she greatly enjoys her life with Jeff. (Thus explaining why she uses so many French words, despite having been raised by Jeff since she was a baby.)

Kay’s family is Irish on Byrne’s side (his parents were Irish immigrants who came here and opened a very successful restaurant, meaning that Byrne was pretty rich, but in the good, giving sort of way) and Uyghurs on her mother’s side (her mom, Nur Qasim, came to America after escaping China as a refugee, and became an outspoken environmental lawyer - she and Byrne met in law school, but she ended up dying in childbirth). After Byrne’s death, Kay would have moved in with her grandparents, but her paternal grandmother was suffering from dementia as her grandpa struggled to take care of her, so she ended up living with her uncle Adil, a kind but awkward businessman living in Europe who doesn’t really know what to do with a child, but is trying his best.

I like to think Justine Courtney is British, only because I thought her VA did a good job in AAI2′s fan translation, and her VA either did a British accent or was British (I’m unclear). By a somewhat similar token, my friend watched a playthrough where Gant had an Australian accent, and for some reason I’m absolutely here for it, so I imagine that to be true now. Finally, I can’t explain it, but Blaise Debeste gives me Canadian vibes. (To all Canadians reading this, I am incredibly sorry.) That, combined with the vaguely French-adjacent last name, leads me to believe that both he and Sebastian are of French-Canadian descent. (I like to think that when he was a child, Sebastian spoke French with his mother, Dinah, who was an absolute sweetheart - but after Blaise made her “disappear,” he didn’t let Sebastian speak it anymore.)

My friend and I decided it would be rad if Detective Badd was ethnically Jewish. He’s very cynical, so I don’t imagine he’s particularly religious anymore, but grew up with the traditions and still celebrates some of the holidays (and that time-honored tradition of getting Chinese food on Christmas).

Lang is East Asian, of course - he’s from Zheng Fa, after all, which is just fake China. However, I don’t think Shih-na/Yew is from Zheng Fa, and instead have a rather complicated backstory for her where she was actually a war orphan of Romani descent, her parents killed in an internal conflict in Borginia, and she was taken in by Alba’s smuggling ring to be raised as a spy and trained killer.

Oh, and Larry is white. He just is. Also, I think Bikini is secretly his mom. Don’t question it.

Aside from these folks, I’ve probably either forgotten, or I just haven’t thought about them much. If you have any ethnicity headcanons of your own, I’d love to hear them! (And once again, if I have been in any way insensitive, please, please let me know. I’m always trying to learn and improve.)

First impression: Before I got very far in the brick I think I read some people’s modern AUs and had the impression of him as, like ... The friend who is always cautioning Enjolras when he is too Mean To Grantaire or whatever, and him being obsessed with moths. Lmao.When I actually read the book I was like, wow this guy has a lot going on!! I kind of also internalized him as the Pacifist Friend and I remember being surprised that he mentioned being a doctor on the barricade bc I had seen a bunch of AUs with Joly as a doctor but never Combeferre for some reason? I don’t read modern AUs any more but I have the impression that that has changed maybe.

Impression now: I love him so much. Every time I go back and read his intro I’m like, wow there is more stuff there. Actually recently reading my Saint-Simonians book changed my perception of Combeferre a little bit just because ... that wasn’t a throwaway reference really, the bulk of the core Saint-Simonists at the beginning were .... very Combeferre-like .... so that has a heavier weight on my impression of him at the moment.

Favorite moment: There are a lot .... An underrated moment that touches me a lot is when he’s on the barricade surrounded by a bunch of students and workers and he is just, like... talking to them about Enjolras & the whole Le Cabuc thing?"Harmodius and Aristogeiton, Brutus, Chereas, Stephanus, Cromwell,Charlotte Corday, Sand, have all had their moment of agony when itwas too late. Our hearts quiver so, and human life is such amystery that, even in the case of a civic murder, even in a murderfor liberation, if there be such a thing, the remorse for havingstruck a man surpasses the joy of having served the human race."Like idk what to make of it exactly but it seems very significant to me the way Combeferre (who told Enjolras they would share his fate) feels that he has such a pulse for what Enjolras is thinking and feeling that he is just going to talk about it to other people like this ... and the fact that this moment comes not long before the moment with the artillery sergeant.

Idea for a story: I have written a fair few Combeferre-centric stories in the past and you know even more of them! But I will share with the world the one where they live and he ends up adopting a little gamin with cystic fibrosis and ... lots of drama and heartache from the double perspective of Dad and Doctor, but also, very worth it.

Unpopular opinion: I think I’ve said this before a while ago but he is neither the Mom Friend NOR a raging hypocrite who functions on barely any sleep etc. Like, he does More Than You AND he does it on as decent a sleep schedule as a medical student can have.

Favorite relationship: With Enjolras! There’s so much there... the moment with the uniforms, when they’re sitting at the mouth of the barricade not talking and reach to hold each other’s hands when they hear Gavroche singing ... they are just both clearly very important to each other

Favorite headcanon: I have a few!! Combeferre growing up in the Alps is important to me, and that’s one I know that you share. One that I have that you don’t is that he is black/mixed and at least one of his parents are Haitian ... there is some personal tension there with the Napoleon thing and it makes that scene in particular really Sharp for both him & Marius [who I also hc as mixed]

grace has cystic fibrosis and doesn’t often talk about it, though it’s not a secret either. she’s currently on a list to get a lung transplant and may soon need an oxygen tank with her at all times.

(minor secret) grace is currently in a foster home. prior to her current foster home, grace has been in physically abusive homes. she mostly witnessed the violence of her foster parents abusing her foster siblings. she was lucky to have a foster sibling that always took the heat so no one else had to get hurt. at first, she reported what was going on but after realizing no one cared, she lost faith in the system and stopped reporting anything.

grace has one thing that her birth mother left with her: a gold chain bracelet with small, delicate charms hanging off it; a star, a cloud, a leaf, a rose, a butterfly, and a feather.

the summer before grace was meant to start her freshman year of high school, she got into some trouble with her foster parents and ended up in juvie for a year. she started her first year as a freshman at Degrassi a month after being released, at the age of 15.

okay so one of my points in the original incoherent longpost ramble i wrote while fending off the the post-lost boys haze that overtook me after watching it for, i believe, the fifth time, was that i thought the reason it was such a good movie was how quickly it checked the “oh, i like these characters and want to think about them now that the movie is over” box. in that post, i then proceeded to not talk about the thoughts i’ve actually been having about these characters at all, so let’s get down to work and try to fix that, shall we?

okay i was going to just write another impossible to read multiple paragraph long post, but y’know, how about i make things easier on all of us and do this in bullet points. so, in no particular order..... headcanons!

despite her later desire to get out of the gang, star wasn’t tricked or pressured into becoming a vampire like michael was. rather, she had been hanging around them for long enough that she pieced together what they were and asked to join, only coming to realize that it would mean killing other people for her own continued survival and wanting out later on.

in the 6-issue lost boys comic, it’s implied that star has cystic fibrosis, informing her decision to become a vampire. i’m definitely not taking all of that comic into my own personal canon, but i stand by that part--esp. bc it fits with vampirism being her decision, even if it was one she later regretted. 

marko is the smallest of the lost boys, but also the most dangerous, even exceeding david. have you seen that part where he’s peeling a man’s head like a fruit? that bitch is BLOODTHIRSTY.

not that he’s exactly an upstanding citizen on his own, but a good deal of the reason that david abuses exercises his control over the other boys is that he knows that they (but marko in particular) are always just about ten minutes and one show of weakness on his end away from staging a coup, and he knows that with anyone else in charge (save maybe dwayne, but dwayne isn’t interested in the leadership role) the group would become too violent and draw too much attention, getting them all killed.

okay now i feel like i’m vilifying marko which. i definitely stand by what i’ve said, but i also don’t think he’s like, pure evil or anything by any means. i like marko! 

i feel like i owe marko some nice headcanons now so like: i agree with the general consensus that marko cares for the pigeons in the vampire hotel, to the point where he feeds them and maybe talks to them. he DEFINITELY has named them all, although honestly he can’t tell them apart that well so usually when he sees one and calls it a specific name, he’s fucking with everyone else. loves to make fun of the other guys for not knowing which one is which, though.

one day he looks at a bird flying into the cave and casually announces “hey, vlad’s back,” and after hardly a glance, michael deadpans “vlad? that’s lestat.” 

marko goes into existential crisis mode for a week. this is the first time he starts to respect david’s decision to make michael one of them. 

he never figures out if michael was just fucking with him the way everyone else or if he could really tell the difference between the pigeons and it haunts him to this day.

ok wow that was a LOT of marko

back to star: she’s trans. you know that part on the boardwalk where she and michael are introducing themselves to one another for the first time, and michael goes “oh, your parents too, huh,” when she says her name is star? i always felt like she didn’t really get what he was saying, even after michael elaborated and told her he meant that her parents were ex-hippies. now i’m totally choosing to read that as her being like, a little offended that he thought someone would only be named star because they were burdened with it by uncool ex-hippie parents, because honestly when she picked it she thought she had the coolest name of all time. 

i will not take constructive criticism on that last part because it is already perfect.

on the subject of star, the general consensus i’ve seen in fic and stuff is that she had been a vampire for a few months or maybe a year before the events of the movie, but honestly i’d disagree.

personally, i feel like she’s been there for a lot longer than that--like, have you seen how she dresses? that immediately pinged “free spirit hippie girl” to me, which was kind of out of place, especially considering that everyone else dressed so 80′s. imo, star might have been turned as early as the start of the 70′s--making her the ex-hippie, and not her parents, like michael assumed. this fic here (which is SO good, by the way) explains the way that she was able to last a year with the hunger while michael was already struggling after about a week by having star steal sips from david’s bottle to tide her hunger when she could. that’s basically the way i see it, too, tbh, except over a longer time scale--rather than one year, something around 15. 

which means star is nearly as old as michael’s mother. oops.

alright, it’s weird, but i don’t actually think it’s that weird. the way i’m choosing to see vampirism in this universe is that it permanently halts the emotional maturity of the vampire at whatever age they get turned; david and the guys are nearly grown, at ages like, 18-22 or so, but not quite, and they’re never going to grow up and out of their immature mindset. the worst is for laddie, who’s permanently stunted around 8 years old. the others respond to this with a certain degree of pity, but since he doesn’t actually know what he’s missing, it mostly translates to a really rabid older brother/sister instinct. heaven help anyone who tries to pick on that kid--they’re immediately going to face 5 angry vampire dudes and one absolutely enraged vampire chick. 

(not to mention that his emotional immaturity means he’s got no real self control over the hunger he feels... if he ever snaps and becomes a full vampire, he’ll be the most dangerous of the group for a plethora of reasons)

on that note, if i were to list the lost boys by most control over their urges to least (or, y’know, least to most actively bloodthirsty), i think it’d be something like this: michael -> david -> star -> dwayne -> marko -> paul -> laddie, with the caveat that while marko is technically better at controlling himself than paul, paul has more moral reservations about the actual act of violent murder, while marko is more inclined to kill for fun. 

david being so high on that list may be a point of contention for some but tbh i feel pretty strongly about it

a majority of that call for me comes from the unmade screenplay for the lost boys: the beginning, a prequel to the film set in 1906. before reading that, i honestly had different headcanons entirely, and a lot less sympathy for david, but if you take the script as canon, i think a lot of things change about his characterization.

in the script, the four main lost boys are together (plus one other member named jasper, which is the only crossover name between the lost boys and twilight) as a petty gang before they became vampires. the start of the movie sees them pickpocketing to try and pay for a place to sleep that night, and david seems to luck out early, lifting a wallet with a $100 bill inside. 

however, when he realizes the guy has a family, including two babies, and he just took everything the guy has, he gives the wallet back, to marko’s intense dismay. 

basically, david starts out a criminal, and he definitely does care about self preservation above most other things, but he still has morals. later, when the movie’s big bad is pressuring him and the others to drink blood and live eternally, he’s the only one who refuses, spitting out the wine when he’s forced to drink it and showing the others that it’s blood. notably, even before that he’s warning his friends that they don’t have to drink it if they didn’t want to (mirroring the way that star told michael he didn’t have to drink of the bottle), protecting not just himself, but also them. he resists becoming a vampire the longest, too; david refuses to join the movie’s villain, even after the other lost boys have been turned, right up until he’s shot by some military men in a scuffle and it’s a matter of life and death. then, his self preservation wins out, but even once he’s been turned, david doesn’t lose who he used to be. 

tl; dr: i feel like david is a better person than the events of the movie alone would have you think.

in my opinion, he’s been looking out for his friends from the very beginning, and he’s never stopped doing that. yeah, even before he turned, he was a crook and kind of a burnout, but he had morals. i’m not going to deny that david enjoys being a vampire--enjoys drinking blood, the physical rush, the power over people who pushed him around--not by any means. i just think that comes from an understandable place, given that he was a streetrat who got pushed around a lot in the events of that script; he likes that he’ll never be a victim to assholes with knives who are bigger than he is again. 

plus, if you look at the people the lost boys kill over the course of the movie, they’re not exactly innocent victims. there’s the asshole cop who restrained david with a baton to his throat for pretty much just the act of putting his hand on a dude’s face, a jerkass who starts fights on boardwalks, steals comic books, and ignores his girlfriend’s protestations in the car when he’s trying to make out with her, the girlfriend, who stuck by him while all that shit was going down (and was reading one of the stolen comics, if i interpreted that scene correctly--not that this means she necessarily deserved to die, but she wasn’t innocent), and a bunch of assholes calling themselves surf nazis. david and his gang only go after people who have started the fight themselves in some way or another, and i think that david is a big part in keeping it that way--he’s the one who deescalates the tension on the carousel to keep things from an all out bloodbath, after all, and was the one keeping the gang in check since the turn of the century from doing anything too unforgivable for their own gain. that to me says he’s got a pretty good grasp of self control, and he keeps the gang to a level of violence that sustains their bloodlust without being totally gratuitous as much as possible.

re: his placement on the sliding scale of vampiric self control, you might be wondering why i put michael at the absolute top. honestly, it’s not that i think he’s a saint or anything. i just think he was the one member of the gang (jury’s out on laddie, but he’s automatically at the bottom because of his age and inability to control himself) who didn’t make a conscious choice, one way or another, to become a vampire. marko, dwayne, and paul gave into the temptation of the prequel’s big bad. david and star were given the choice between vampirism and death, and chose to live. michael, though--michael gave into peer pressure, but the worst crime he committed was drinking some wine. watching the others kill absolutely fucked him up, but he was able to resist any kind of bloodlust that might have had him joining in the slaughter on the beach that night. when pushed to the absolute wall by david in the ending of the movie (an ending you might have noticed i’m completely ignoring in favor of a full gang inc. laddie, star, and michael for my headcanons lol), his strength was tested against david’s and he won. michael isn’t perfect or superhuman, but he’s making the choices an essentially good, normal human being would make, and when everyone around him for one reason or another chose what they have, he’s got that tiny bit of a head’s up on them that makes all the difference. 

tbh tho, i think david was right when he said there was something of a killer in michael. i think on some gruesome level he’s kind of fascinated with the vampirism he’s fallen in with, which makes him more susceptible than, say, sam, or really any of the other emersons, who would rank above him on that scale, were they vampires too.

paul to me is just a fun happy dude. i was endeared to him when he clapped michael on the back after he drank and announced, totally earnestly, “you’re one of us!” i just, you know, liked his eagerness to welcome in a new friend. tbh i think he’s a bit of a ditzy airhead (or, dare i say it, a himbo), but he’s ultimately got his heart in the right place.

i really like dwayne. i like that he’s the quietest of the group (i saw a headcanon that said he didn’t speak that much because he’s got a stutter he’s embarrassed of, which i have absorbed into my canon), but i especially like that he does speak--to laddie, telling him what’s going on when he’s riding on the back of his bike. other than star, i think dwayne’s the most protective of him, and probably the most “maternal” of the guys. he’s under star in the sliding scale thing because to me he doesn’t really have qualms with killing assholes to survive, but at the same time, he’s never really tempted to take more than he needs, like marko is. 

i like the idea that dwayne’s really into music, like, ‘can name the artist, album, and song title of any song made since 1890 from the first line’ into music. immortality is a hell of a thing for music buffery. 

ok i have sooooooooo much more i want to say, i didn’t even realize i’d put together this many thoughts about this movie but Apparently I Have, holy god, but i need to cut off this post at some point sgfdshgh

one more fun marko one: totally love the hc that he paints, especially that he paints murals on the cave wall. artist boy.....

'headcanon rant for another day' oh please when its another day tell me :DDD

HEE okay, the comparative biologist in me that I truncated when I deviated towards medicine is excited af about Naruto world genetics and how the heck chakra works in the human body.

If you look cross-sectionally at the expression of chakra in all the existing dojutsu (ex. Uchiha’s sharingan, Hyuuga’s byakugan; possibly the Yamanaka’s characteristic generation-spanning pupil-less eyes that may facilitate their mind-share technique) and genkai kekkei (Yamato and Hashirama’s Wood style release, Haku’s ice mirrors, etc), there’s definitely an emphasis on certain powers being strictly genetic, not something you can learn. Like, you literally express it uncontrollably after a certain trigger (epigenetics yo!!! gotta modify those histones to activate the genetic expression), and only then train it once its manifest.

You can, however, “transplant” body parts that contain the style -- like Kakashi with Obito’s sharingan, or Yamato being genetically modified with Hashirama’s cells as an infant -- and bypass that required pedigree. You just have to work super hard to “master” it, and it will be taxing to your body that wasn’t born to express that technique. (In fact, I like to believe these transplantees are more prone to autoimmune diseases and/or infections due to graft-versus-host disease).

Canonically there are others that are explicitly stated to be learned techniques that are simply “secretly” passed down generation to generation and have little to do with your genes (the “Hiden” techniques, like the Nara shadow stitching), but we never really see any non-clan characters learning techniques from other clans, so it’s hard to say. I think there’s a specific chakra pathway you must be born with to learn specific Hiden techniques. Like, Nara are genetically predisposed to have chakra pathways that facilitate their shadow stitching. So while a random stranger could theoretically learn after years and years of practicing, some -- like our chakra-less Lee -- would simply fail no matter how hard they try because they don’t have the proper chakra setup.

This all got me thinking about the clanless/bloodline limit-lacking characters that look phenotypically similar to clans or characters possessing dojutsu and/or genkai kekkei. Folks like Anko, who has the characteristic Yamanaka pupilless eyes but instead of pale green they’re brown, suggesting she’s a Yamanaka mutt-mix that, due to a combination of a poor genetic lottery and no teacher, failed to develop the Yamanaka mind share technique entirely. She’s still a Torture and Interrogation nin tho, suggesting she was either raised around the Yamanaka (who all ultimately seem to end up doing jobs in T&I lol), or was taken pity by a Yamanaka in T&I who realized she was probably of their blood and never claimed and gave her a decent job. We all know how Konoha treats their clanless orphans, yeah? :(

I like to think certain “mixes” are unviable (else there’d already exist characters with it in canon, yanno?), or just a really bad idea (congenital defects-wise). Like Hyuuga and Uchiha. The Hyuuga academy teacher I doodled in my comic is an OC of mine whose backstory is she -- scandalously! -- had a kid with an Uchiha and their kid was born with a lot of genetic defects centering around the face and eyes (specifically holoprosencepahly).

Another character that looks Yamanaka-like and actually manifests Yamanaka-like chakra techniques is Tsunade’s old boyfriend Dan Kato. His power is the power to astrally project himself -- much like the Yamanaka! -- and possess others -- very much like the Yamanaka. Now, of course, one could butt in and say the Yamanaka mind body technique is probably a Hiden technique, not a bloodline limit, and thus Dan is entirely capable of learning it despite not belonging to the clan, but I like the chakra genetics headcanon and I’m sticking to it, so the Kato clan is an offshoot of some branch Yamanaka that specialized in the mind-body technique since the mind-share technique is probably only taught to the Main House.

Unlike the Hyuuga, whose Main and Branch houses take the toxic hierarchy to its extreme, the Yamanaka are more chill with their families expanding and marrying whoever they want, so not everyone has the Yamanaka last name. The Ino-Shika-Chou formation ensures that at least one kid is born and raised to have all their desired techniques, so the rest of the family’s kids can be born doing whatever. Presumably they gotta learn about the Yamanaka family history and all that pizzazz, but they aren’t enslaved to the family like the Hyuuga (or arguably the Uchiha).

That’s why Shizune Kato canonically uses poisons and healing techniques, and has no ability in the astral projection her uncle Dan so famously had. She just wasn’t born with the chakra pathways for it, and that’s okay. She’s not gonna get kicked out of the family for it like other characters are (like my Hyuuga OC, who never manifested the Byakugan, or her husband, who never manifested the sharingan. It’s why their baby managed to be born at all and not entirely stillborn -- neither of them were *rolls eyes* ““pureblood””).

Other clanless characters I think are probably mutts are:

- Ebisu, whose use of sunglasses suggest to me he’s a main branch Aburame bastard who was never implanted with bugs (I hc most if not all Aburame have severely impaired vision, hence the sunglasses -- they use their bugs to “see”) but was raised knowing it, so that’s why he’s a snooty asshole about Clans and gets to train the Hokage’s grandchild and other high ranking kids. He can’t inherit the title of Aburame Clan Head because he doesn’t have bugs, but he does get a cozy high ranking job without having to really work for it.

- Aoba, whose sunglasses and liberal use of fire techniques and crows could mean he’s got Aburame and/or Uchiha blood in him. 

I definitely think the Naruto world’s necessary emphasis on genetics and purity of blood for the sake of your bloodline limit expression has damaging effects on people’s health, congenital defects wise. For example: I headcanon Hayate Gekko has cystic fibrosis! It’s why he’s always coughing and sick. The Senju clan has a defect in a tumor-suppressing gene, which explains why they were of the few clans to have multiple kids (Hashirama had 3 brothers! how rare in the naruto world of being single children or having only a single sibling! lol) and yet the entire freaking clan was reduced to only Tsunade in three generations of peace. Let’s face it: Hashirama absolutely died of some form of cancer -- Hashirama cells are Naruto world’s HeLa cells, after all. Plus, it would explain why only he could do the wood release and no other person until yamato has managed it -- you HAVE to have a defect in a tumor suppressing gene, and to wood release you have to selectively induce a second insult to cause your cells to divide like crazy. But you also have to have the ability to combine earth and water release, and also chakra mold, and also a bunch of other crazy shit which made it super hard for Orochimaru to re-create it. It’s a miracle Hashirama didn’t die earlier, tbh.

I headcanon Tsunade totally got uterine cancer (she can’t have kids) and breast cancer (her breasts are so large because they are fake :V) and it’s why she’s the only Senju alive -- she has kept herself alive using her insanely OP healing skills. Its how she knows how to keep herself young-looking, too -- she was always replenishing her cells. I HC her brother Nawaki had leucemia and it was only sheer chance that a landmine got to him first before his own sickness did. That’s why Orochimaru is so knowledgeable about Hashirama’s cells in the first place, to the point where he was recruited to ROOT! Orochimaru was Nawaki’s sensei and was actively helping Tsunade find a cure for the Senju Clan’s propensity to develop cancer to save Nawaki and the Senju line as a whole. After Nawaki’s passing, Orochimaru kind of went crazy and decided instead to focus on curing death....

ANYWAY I could keep going but I’ve lost track of what I was originally answering lmfao. I have too many headcanons XD;;;;;

Death Headcanons

Under the cut because big tw for mental illness and suicide and alcoholism and general disease. 

I have two sort of nebulous headcanons for how Nate eventually dies. 

It’s either a long, debilitating illness like cystic fibrosis (etc.), or a suicide. I lean towards the disease because I think it’s important to know that mental illness is something people can get through with the right kind of help and support system, but Nate is still at a high risk for it and it is a serious threat to his health. I like both gritty realism and treating mental illness seriously so this is not something I’m taking lightly.

If Nate does commit suicide, it’s spur of the moment. It’s a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. It feels like there’s no warning, and he’s gone and hidden himself away so it’s not a loved one who finds him first. He was in a lot of pain, and he didn’t do it to hurt anyone. It’s a fairly realistic outcome. It could be a cautionary tale, but for who? Nate? His loved ones? The people around Nate don’t need to feel guilty for a disease that he was getting treatment for, and Nate isn’t wrong for hurting even if the outcome is awful and drastic. It could raise awareness, but it doesn’t have to be so grim to inform anyone.

I feel that at the end of the series, Nate is in a healthy enough place that he knows how to keep himself mostly safe when he’s feeling awful enough to do something like that. There’s a reason why Nate is rarely seen with a gun, and I believe it’s because he really doesn’t trust himself with that kind of weapon for good reason. Furthermore, I don’t believe it’s narratively satisfying that way either. 

With disease, the cause is up in the air. It could be alcoholism, or genetic, and probably both. Nate doesn’t need more guilt and more consequences, by now he’s faced up to what his life as been. Sophie has time to prepare herself and get into a healthy place to accept Nate’s death, and Nate has some time to reflect. He hasn’t followed in his father’s footsteps and he gets to understand the value of a person even when they can’t perform any physical labor. He’s cared for, he can be in an empathetic place to understand Sam’s death while he experiences his own. He doesn’t have to be afraid or alone, and he can try to give his loved ones the security that he didn’t have when his loved ones died. It feels more right and natural, and Nate can finally let go of his need for control.
