Something neat I noticed about the Character designs in Miraculous, specifically with the Agrestes/Graham de Vanilys and people closely associated with them is how the colour schemes are.

Under a cut bcs its a lot.

The Agrestes all have predominately white outfits, Gabriel having hints of red, and Emilie and Adrien having small amounts of black.

Meanwhile the Graham de Vanilys have mostly black outfits, with some grey in Félixs case.

I thought this was interesting because the white clothes make the Agrestes look more pure, and innocent, while the black clothes of the Graham de Vanilys makes them come off as the reverse, more "evil" side. When in reality its the opposite, the Agrestes have the darker side to them.

Now when we look at the characters designs separately from one another with that context it becomes even more interesting to me, to see how each colour on each design stands out.

Starting with Gabriel because hes the most outsidery of the family. He is mostly white and red, with hints of grey. The red could be seen as him being separate from Emilie and the Graham de Vanily lineage. While the white is Emilies colour. The silver could be seen as representing how hes mixed with the Graham de Vanilys as well through marriage, just weakly.

Next is Adrien, who has the most outside colours on his person. He has the white outer jack, which coul be seen as his appearance being "The son of the Agrestes" and just as a face and not a person. I think its interesting that his shoes are orange, which is red mixed with yellow, another colour on his pallette which represents the outside influences on his life, like Gabriels red. And then his t shirt is black, like Amelie and Félix's colour scheme, suggesting that underneath the white hes more attached (that is NOT the right word but i cant think of anything else) to them (more similar to them?) Idk but Amelie is going to be his mother soon ;) (Looks at that shot of her and Nathalie) (Theres also the fact that as Chat Noir the only white on him is his teeth, breaking away completely from his family burdens)

Last for these 3 is Emilie, shes mostly white with accents of black, which I see as symbolism of her breaking away from her parents by marrying Gabriel. But the black accents show that she still has some attatchment to them through her relationship with Amelie.

Then theres Amelie, whos entire outfit is black, showing that she never got rid of the Graham de Vanily name or reltionship to her parents.

And then Félix, whos black and grey, showing his closeness to his mother through the black, but also his care for Adrien, whos "white" so it mixes.

Now for "Outsiders"

Starting with Nathalie. Her outfit is mostly black, suggesting her later lack of loyalty to Gabriel, and closeness with Adrien. The red accents show that she was most likely brought into the family by him, those being evidence of his influence.

Then Placidies, whos mostly grey with the smallest amounts of black and white in his hair, showing how hes been with both families (Im pretty sure he was the "knight" Colt gave away)

Then theres Marinette, whos grey, white and pink. White showing her closeness to Adrien, pink showing the influence Gabriel's fashion has had on her, and grey showing her as an outsider, with influences into the Agreste drama

And last is Kagami, who on her outside layer has a white jacket, showing how she dated Adrien at first but felt he wasn't right for her. The black underneathe shows her relationship to Félix instead, a more "real" relationhip, hidden by the white outside appearance forced upon her by her mother through the arranged relationship. The red suggests her relationship to Gabriel, who is close to her mother, who also has a lot of red on her.

why is so much of sewing just tracing and cutting and tracing again q_q i see why people get projectors and use adobe illustrator now

#drawing up a design that i can easily pattern from my sloper: 😊 #actually having to make the pattern by tracing and cutting ad infinitum: 😰 #piecing together printer paper to get a big enough sheet of paper and doing this ten million times: 🥲😭 #not to mention the IRONING.... prewashing the fabric and having to iron 8 yards of fabric???? excuse me???? #and then distorting it as i iron bc it has a slight stretch and i got so tired i stopped being careful 2 yards in #and the way that you're supposed to press every seam... excuse me... am i just supposed to have my iron heated and on standby at all times #AND THE STEAM??? i just got stay tape the other day and thought it'd be a neat alternative to stay stitching #BUT IT NEEDS STEAM TO ACTIVATE (which okay makes sense) BUT long story short i'm too afraid to use the steam function #on my iron because none of us are sure if water should go back into a tank that's been in disuse for 30+ years #so instead i get this water spray pen and delicately spray down the length of each piece of stay tape #before i cover it with a piece of gauze and iron it. and then i have to iron it extra so all the water actually evaporates #oh and the spray pen holds as much water as half a pen so i have to walk to the kitchen every 10 sprays to refill it #and i have to do this for every curved edge on my pattern pieces #i mean the alternative is just stay stitching but then i would have to calibrate my settings for a single layer of fabric instead of double #which means i have to switch my needle out more and i'm still new enough that sometimes i install a needles wrong despite going through #all the same exact motions that i usually would. i'm LITERALLY suffering out here. anyway can't wait to sew or whatever #oh and did i mention i went to a sewing meetup recently? yeah... #everyone there bought like $30-$100/yard fabric and i was there awkwardly knowing i only buy like $12/yard fabric #honestly though i have the opposite problem people usually joke about. i find it So hard to find fabric i actually like #it needs to be the right fiber + right color + right pattern/texture + right weight + i have to know exactly what i'm going to make with it

Do you see Jane as yourself or a separate person because when I read x reader fics I feel like I always make up characters that I think would fit more but idk

Me personally, I see Jane as a different person, just one with a few attributes I share! And that's kind of on purpose. I've essentially tried to make her a mixture of all of us, of the fandom, of the love we—me included—have for Matt and that world. That's why she's never physically described, why her original family is kind of murky and lost. She's both herself—her own character with a shaped personality and flaws and strengths—but also all of the readers, including me, and she looks like what each of us wants or needs to see, comes from where we need her to come from. Which is how I think of a lot of great Reader characters when I'm reading, or characters I style after me in RPGs! They're me but they're me in another world with another life story, which makes them different in their own way, in the way any alternate universe version of yourself might be different.

Because of Plot Reasons (TM), you can never really make a reader fully everyone, it's true. There are always choices the plot requires a Reader to make, which is one reason I've set Jane up with the backstory she has, and why we're exploring questions of identity through her that I want readers to consider - wouldn't we be the same as her, make a lot of the same decisions, feel the same loneliness and wariness and trauma, if we'd all gone through what she has? And if you spend all your time being someone else, how long until you start changing? How much of you is created and how much of you is born? How much of you would change if you went through what she did? And what if you did go through what she did? This could be you, what if? In that way, she's potentially (since some see her as entirely separate, which is fine!) a sort of a variant of us, an AU, a what-if, in which our lives and selves were morphed by circumstances beyond our control. This is how I see the CYOA books I read as a kid, and there was a great article I read a few months ago that sums up the You in CYOA, Reader fics, RPGs, and TRT pretty well (it's the highlighted bits I found most accurate, the part about not having 'relatability' I think was a misunderstanding of what You POV/Reader/the best CYOA books were about if done right since it CAN be relatable, though the rest of it after that still feels accurate).

So I don't think your stance is unusual at all! I've got a whole range of readers—some who see Jane (and other reader characters) as fully them, some who see her as wholly separate, and some who land somewhere in the middle. All of those for x Reader are valid, and I work REALLY hard to keep her as relatable as possible for that reason, so that even if someone does see her as someone else, you can still understand and appreciate her choices when the plot forces her hand. But that's the thing: where you stand on whether a Reader character is you or someone else or even a pre-established canon character is fluid. Everyone sees them differently, pulls on that costume, slides into that skin in their own way. And I think that's really awesome tbh, since it means we get a million different flavors of a character who's still essentially the same.
