having jewish family from n iraq general area is very strange. n iraq area is a bit of an outlier from its neighbors people group-wise because it’s often kurd = muslim; arab = muslim also; assyrian = christian (or at least an overwhelming amount of christians are assyrian); yazidi = yazidi; but jews are called ‘kurdish jews’? they probably just got that label because they were in the area (some have ‘tribal’ last names if they were from the literal towns the tribes got their names from), but for example syrian jews who lived in aleppo/damascus and spoke arabic are called syrian jews, some people use “arab jew” but afaik most don’t 

in that context “kurdish jew” seems a little...misleading? “assyrian jew” is too, they were both religious minorities and spoke aramaic but jews have a separate history (and due to current politics it feels insensitive but idk.) and both of those can be used by israeli govt stuff for propaganda purposes, so looking into sources for this is nigh impossible. tbh i prefer ‘mesopotamian jew’

#someone pls tell me if I’m being judgy? #I’ve to say it somewhere I’ll delete later probably #have a friend who was in a long term relationship #they ended up getting divorced about a year and a half ago #she started an ldr with a guy before the divorce was finalized and I’m pretty sure they had an emotional affair when she was still married #but that might be besides the point #long story short - #he goes out to meet her for the first time and it supposedly goes great #so they want to move in together. at first in like six months #then all of a sudden it’s in a month #so he comes out to pick her up and move her in with him #at this point currently they haven’t even been living together for a full month #she says they’ve been talking about getting married in a few years bc they want to wait #now all of a sudden she says she might be pregnant #and she’s more afraid of NOT being pregnant #like….??? you’re fine waiting a few years to get married but you’re cool with having a BABY immediately after moving in together? #am I being an asshole for thinking this is selfish of her? #idk man #idk

Hi. There are a Lotta scary things happening right now, aren't there?

I mean, from the still ongoing war in Ukraine, to anti-trans bills being passed left and right, to bans on books that teach kids about things like LGBTQ+ people to disabled people to probably even black and indigenous people, to just the also still ongoing coronavirus that people that are just refusing to take seriously anymore, to the willow project being passed, to Roe V. Wade being overturned, to everything else in between, I think it's safe to say that we have all had a fucking rough past couple years. Rough in the sense of "Got fucked by chainsaw with no protection on while trying to fight a fucking bear" if that makes any damn sense. And I know a lot of us are feeling hopeless right about now. I get it, I am too, we are in a very hopeless situation where it feels like nothing we do will change anything anymore, but please do remember that if give up, we let those who want to hurt our kids, our futures, win. And I for one refuse to sit back and watch as the life I was promised is stolen by greedy savage men who know nothing of me, and who never will, because they don't care. Now, I know this sounds like a kid who's mad at the goddamn world and who's gonna rant and ramble and rave about it till the light dies inside and they become a part of the machine that broke them. And it kinda is, to a certain existent, cause I am mad, and I do wanna go strangle some pasty fucking white bitches who are harming children as we speak, but I can't do it single-handedly, no one can. So this is also a call to all those like me, those who are being fucked over by the work of these pasty white boys and are growing sick in tired of it: Find people like yourself, build systems of support, help each other out, organize and protest, fight back against those who gain millions by killing us, remind them that you are going to die that you will not die quietly, and if worst comes to worst, help each other flea and make sure everyone is safe in some way. It may seem scary now, but that is because we all going through this heartbreak for what we have lost alone. If we stand together and fight together, I promise you it will not seem as scary. Oh and remember!: THE GOVERNMENT ONLY CONTINUES TO RULE WITH THE CONSENT OF US, THE GOVERNED. IF WE DECIDE THAT WE NO LONGER CONSENT, IT IS WITHIN OUR FULL RIGHT TO RIOT, AND OVERTHROW THE GOVERNMENT THAT SERVES NO ONE BUT ITSELF.

大家好! 2024 began with moderately healthy living and exercise. Whilst others harp on about elevated meals, I focus on the basics, since the basics kept us healthy and active in the 1980s. Special occasion foods during that era are now the norm. IMHO, these rich meals are partially responsible for people suffering from diseases such as heart attacks, strokes and diabetes at a younger age.

Fast food, creamy/cheesy dishes, greasy meats and dessert (except for fruit) used to be special occasion foods in the 1980s and I've reverted to this after deciding to lead a moderately healthy life. They aren't forbidden, I just don't eat them on regular days. Once in awhile on birthdays, festive occasions as well as when socialising, it's fine to indulge in moderate quantities. Even when socialising, my tendency is to choose less unhealthy options. We have many of those here and they're very yummy!

LL - my expat friend from China - and I caught up over soup noodles (she ordered beef noodle soup and I chose pumpkin noodle soup with crispy chicken cutlet). We shared veggies, kou shui ji (mouthwatering chicken), as well as jiu cai he (fried leek parcels). My noodles were SO incredibly delicious; the golden broth was light, smooth and frothy rather than creamy and the noodles were QQ perfection! After the superb meal, we walked to another mall for coffee and more chatting. It was so nice to see LL again and I look forward to the next catch up!

Besides catching up over a delicious meal, I also collected the new products I ordered from LL - face moisturiser and eye cream. I've been using this brand's makeup remover towellettes, foam cleanser, facial mask sheets as well as hydrating spray and wanted to try more items. I'll give my verdict once I've tried them and, if they're good, I'll replace current brands with them. What a nice way to start a brand new year - with new skincare. Now to look forward to the best time of the year: Chinese New Year in February!

May 2024 bring a ceasefire in Gaza, a stop to the horrific carnage and an end to the extreme suffering. Stop punishing innocent civilians and negotiate peace instead. Parties proclaiming themselves to be the champion of human rights need to bring the immense suffering to an end or risk being exposed as hypocrites (as if they aren't already). I actually kinda miss Trump and the peace that reigned during his time as the President of the US; Biden sucks. 下次见!

Just a reminder for my fellow Aussies- Coles and Woolies have been price gouging and committing wage theft, with employees calling for a nationwide Christmas eve boycott- the busiest day of the year.

Coles and Woolworths have reported over $1 *billion* profit this past financial year, and I dont think I need to remind you that we are in a Cost Of Living Crisis Right Now™️- this boycott shouldn't just be Christmas eve (aka today) but should last into next year in my own opinion. No corporation should report record profits like that in a cost of living crisis Without Question (thank you Senator Nick McKim for pointing out that they [Coles and Woolworths] "feel they can overcharge people without repercussions " and calling for a Parliamentary Inquiry.)

There's a lot of talk about hate speech and 'hate marches' at the moment, together with a spike in reports of anti-semitism — which is remarkable and also shameful in a nation that welcomed so many Jewish refugees to safety in the 1930s.

It's an ancient persecution. When God first revealed Himself to Moses at the Burning Bush, He said:

"I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress… I am aware of their suffering… The cry of the people of Israel has reached Me." (From Exodus 3:7 and 9 NLT)

Perhaps it is because God has always shown special favour to His people, the Jews, that others have hated them for it. The aim of a small minority who are Islamist terrorists to exterminate both the state and all its people (including a quarter of Israel's citizens who are not Jews) has deep roots.

While there is a variety of views of what is good and fair for Palestine as a whole, the right of Israel citizens to live free from terror attacks and rocket bombardment is beyond question.

The next time God revealed Himself to Moses it was to emphasise that merciful love is a description of His essential being.

The LORD passed in front of Moses and said, "I am the LORD. The LORD is a God who shows mercy, who is kind, who doesn't become angry quickly, who has great love and faithfulness." (Exodus 34:6 NCV)

And He wants us to be like Him! Jesus said, "Overflow with mercy and compassion for others, just as your heavenly Father overflows with mercy and compassion for all." (Luke 6:36 TPT)

Coming to know God through believing and trusting in Jesus results in an inner spiritual transformation — and our values change.

To know God personally through Jesus is to know His love, and begin to see the breadth of it to touch, not just those who know Him, but also others who clearly don't!

That makes it possibility for us, and a lifestyle choice, to say 'no' to judgment, prejudice — and any speech that is hateful and not loving.

I want to talk a little bit about Hawai‘i, because I have been thinking a lot about my people, and our lives.

The year 2023 marks 130 years since the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom.

On January 17th 1893, American businessman used their connections and military influence to dethrone Queen Liliuokalani by threat of force.

This annexation still impacts my people 130 years later. It still hurts us, it still haunts us,

For the last 130 years my people have suffered under America’s cruelty and indifference.

Unsustainable Tourism haunts us, causing a cost of living crisis, which turns into a rise in poverty, which turns into a rise in individuals experiencing homelessness. This cost crisis disproportionately effects my people, Kānaka Maoli. We cannot even afford to live on our on land. Our ancestral home.

And in turn, tourism then provides the most jobs. This industry pushes us off our land and into poverty, and then it turns around and sells us back our culture as a walking joke.

Our very identity is turned into entertainment. Our very culture is turned into entertainment.

And many of my people have no choice but to sell their culture so they can eat, so they can survive.

We have been put in a never ending cycle of misery and cultural destruction.

In addition, Military Involvement on our islands causes repeated incidents of ecological violence, and land disputes. The military take claim to land that belongs to my people, and they spill chemicals over and over, and poison the water we drink.

My people are suffering. Our culture is suffering.

And everyday more tourists come. Everyday more land is taken to build hotels. Everyday more culture is stripped and bastardized. Everyday more land is taken for military use.

I’m so tired of living this way. I’m so tired of waking up and watching the slow and agonizing death of my people.

I want us to live. I want us to thrive.

I want my people to survive.

I want to survive.

So please read up on the current issues that face Kānaka Maoli. Please educate yourself on my people’s history and current affairs.

Speak up and speak out. Talk about unsustainable tourism, and speak up about how harmful a “vacation” to Hawai‘i can be. Talk about the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom, and it’s injustice.

Hawai‘i is Hawaiians. Hawai‘i is our history. Hawai‘i is our home. Hawai‘i is the very blood that runs through our veins.

So please do not forget us, and please speak up with us.

Support Hawaiian Sovereignty. Restore Hawai‘i to Hawaiians.
