It all starts with a smoke alarm

This wasn't supposed to happen like that, of course. It was supposed to happen with an ”allow me to introduce myself”, at the least. But hey, I am playing the cards I've been dealt, and since an anonymous ask on Tumblr does not allow pictures or links, this will have to do. We'll have plenty of time later.

Yesterday, I said that reading that Single Report reaped benefits. I have screen capped and summed up all the things that made me rise an eyebrow, to make things easier. Hopefully, this is going to be short: who would wax lyrical about a septic tank, after all?

I did not use my superpowers to do this, but simply the link provided by a very active Anon on several shipper blogs, in order to properly stir shite, I presume: https://corumproperty.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/HomeReport-31.pdf

Armed with my wits and a virtual highlighter, I started to carefully read the whole document. Ownership details aside - this, I discussed yesterday -, I remind you that it should give any prospective buyer a good, detailed idea of the available fittings and current condition of the house put on sale.

In Europe and elsewhere, I guess, inspections of this type are rather a dull and thorough affair. And these people did an excellent job: they checked every single nook & cranny, used binoculars to have a closer look at the roof tiles and listed it all on these papers a good researcher should read, before dropping to conclusions.

This is how we know, for example, that the inspection happened on a rainy day:

Thought so.

This brought a smile. And the image of a Christmas tree left near a London dustbin in June. Home, sweet home?

Like all properties, this also comes with burglar and fire alarm systems. However, apparently not much has been done, in this respect. Or at least, not recently. Not since February 2022, to be accurate: otherwise, they would have been upgraded. Yet, no such thing: it's up to the buyer to do and pay for the upgrade.

Lived-in? Certainly not after February 2022 and probably even earlier, would be my best guess. But lived-in at some point in time, most certainly.

Now, I don't know about you, but when I visit somebody's house for the first time, I always check the bookshelves: yes, I am a shameless nerd. I am also well aware that the rest of the furniture was staged, it looked that sad, clinical way it does all over the world. Did not expect to find any books in there, to be honest. And yet, there they were.

I didn't bother with the fashion coffee table books, although I thought they were a nice nod to Ms. B's past, and totally the kind of things she might have on her credenza.

A built-in bookshelf in the basement caught my eye. That did not look staged. It looked as she might have left some of her own books in there, like an afterthought, if you want. And people's choices of books are always speaking volumes to me, about who they really are.

It did not disappoint.

Not a chance in hell, to be honest. I grinned like the Cheshire cat because, ladies, we do know WHOSE book is this, don't we?

Judging by its jacket, well-read. Not a prop.

On failed ideas for The Bachelor

The studio did not want to do a “normal remake” and set itself the goal of creating a game that would be very different from the Haruspex that was released in 2019. This was also mentioned during the Pathologic 2 Kickstarter campaign.

During pre-production and prototyping, Ice-Pick abandoned various ideas:

something in the spirit of the prologue, "The Marble Nest", with an emphasis on the plot;

"cabinet" game within one house, with an emphasis on "catching" thoughts and phrases from a special "cloud";

a completely non-linear plot with 12 days intermingled with each other and a changing chronology.

Prototypes were even made for the last two, but they were eventually abandoned completely, starting with a third idea for a game that Dybowski compares to Christopher Nolan's Memento.

About what will be the "Bachelor"

The main themes of the game's plot are mortality, immortality, time and its perception. The main character, Daniil Dankovsky, according to the developers, will rethink his own vision of the world, which is also associated with changes in the gameplay compared to the Haruspex.

The Bachelor will not have a “survival” system in the usual sense - you won’t have to keep track of hunger, fatigue and money. Instead of them - "a system of marks for time control", which is explained by the fact that Dankovsky is a "man of the mind."

India has stopped issuing visas to Canadian citizens amid an escalating row over the killing of a Sikh separatist on Canadian soil.

India said the temporary move was due to "security threats" disrupting work at its missions in Canada.

Tensions flared this week after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said India may have been behind the 18 June killing.

But Mr Trudeau said on Thursday he was not looking to provoke India with the allegation.

India has angrily rejected the allegation, calling it "absurd".

Speaking to reporters in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Mr Trudeau said: "There is no question that India is a country of growing importance and a country we need to continue to work with."

He said Canada was not looking to provoke India or cause problems with the allegation but is unequivocal about the importance of the rule of law and protecting Canadians.

Relations between the countries - key trade and security partners, and US allies - have been strained for months. Analysts say they are now at an all-time low.

India's government swiftly made clear the suspension of visa services also "applies to Canadians in a third country".

"There have been threats made to our high commission [embassy] and consulates in Canada," a foreign affairs ministry spokesman in Delhi said. "This has disrupted their normal functioning. Accordingly [they] are temporarily unable to process visa applications."

He said: "India is looking for parity in rank and diplomatic strength between the diplomatic missions of the two countries. This is being sought because of Canadian diplomatic interference in our internal affairs."

Hours earlier Canada had announced it was reducing its personnel in India, saying some diplomats had received threats on social media.

"In light of the current environment where tensions have heightened, we are taking action to ensure the safety of our diplomats," a statement said.

Canada's visa services remain open in India.

The two countries have historic close ties - and much is at stake.

Why are some Sikhs calling for a separate state?

Canada has 1.4 million people of Indian origin - more than half of them Sikhs - making up 3.7% of the country's population, according to the 2021 census. India also sends the highest number of international students to Canada - in 2022, they made up 40% of total overseas students at 320,000.

According to Indian government statistics, about 80,000 Canadian tourists visited India in 2021, behind only the US, Bangladesh and UK.

The row burst into the open on Monday after Canada linked India with the murder of separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian citizen who was shot dead in his vehicle by two masked gunmen outside a Sikh temple in British Columbia.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada's intelligence agencies were investigating whether "agents of the government of India" were involved in the killing of Nijjar - who India designated a terrorist in 2020.

India reacted strongly, saying Canada was trying to "shift the focus from Khalistani terrorists and extremists" who had been given shelter there. The Indian government has often reacted sharply to demands by Sikh separatists in Western countries for Khalistan, or a separate Sikh homeland.

On Thursday, Mr Trudeau was pressed by journalists about what evidence there was that suggested India was linked to the murder.

He did not share further details, but said "the decision to share these allegations was not done lightly".

"It was done with the utmost seriousness," Mr Trudeau said, urging Indian officials to cooperate with the investigation into the killing.

A spokesperson for the Indian foreign ministry said Canada has not shared specific information with India on Nijjar's murder.

"We have conveyed this to the Canadian side, made it clear to them that we are willing to look at any specific information that is provided to us," said Arindam Bagchi on Thursday. "But so far we have not received any such specific information."

The Khalistan movement peaked in India in the 1980s with a violent insurgency centred in Sikh-majority Punjab state.

It was quelled by force and has little resonance in India now, but is still popular among some in the Sikh diaspora in countries such as Canada, Australia and the UK.

As the NATO summit convenes in Vilnius, U.S. public opinion about the alliance and its future activities presents a mixed picture. While strong majorities continue to support NATO and its core responsibilities, Americans are increasingly divided along partisan lines about NATO, support for Ukraine, and America’s role in the world. In an era of divided government, these divisions could affect the level of assistance to Ukraine once the current appropriation expires on September 30, and they could lead to significant changes in U.S. policy if certain Republican candidates get nominated and enter the Oval Office in 2025.

According to a pre-summit survey commissioned by NATO, 52% of Americans feel that NATO contributes to their safety and security, 65% believe that the U.S. should defend another NATO member under attack, and 64% believe that the U.S. should remain a member of NATO, with only 13% opposed. Another survey, this one by the New Europe Center, found that 59% of Americans support inviting Ukraine to become a member of NATO, either now (46%) or when the war ends (13%).

However, there are significant differences of opinions within each major political party. For instance, Pew found that while 62% of Americans have broadly favorable attitudes toward NATO, the partisan divide is wide. Democrats approve of NATO by a 54-point margin (76%-22%), but Republicans are evenly split, with 49% expressing approval and 49% disapproval.

Attitudes toward the war in Ukraine present a similar picture. A Gallup survey conducted in June found that 62% of respondents supported continuing support to Ukraine to regain its lost territory, even if this means a prolonged conflict, versus 36% who favored ending the war as soon as possible. But by a margin of 49% to 47%, Republicans favored ending the conflict quickly, even if Russia keeps the territory it has conquered. By contrast, 79% of Democrats wanted to support Ukraine’s effort to regain its lost territory, with just 19% opposed. A narrower majority of independents (55%-43%) also favored support for Ukraine’s fight to reclaim its territories.

Another Pew Research Center study released on June 15 found a huge and widening partisan divide on the level of aid the U.S. is providing to Ukraine. Overall, 28% of Americans think that the current level of U.S. aid is excessive, compared to 47% who believe that it is about right (31%) or inadequate (16%). But fully 44% of Republicans think that we are providing too much support, compared to just 14% of Democrats. Since the beginning of the war on February 24, 2022, this gap has steadily expanded from 4 percentage points in March 2022 to 30 points this June. In a similar vein, a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll found a near-majority of Republicans (48%) endorsing the proposition that “the problems of Ukraine are none of our business, and we should not interfere.” Consistent with this view, 44% of Republicans opposed military aid to Ukraine and 61% rejected financial aid.

Despite the majority’s pro-Ukraine stance, relatively few Americans are optimistic about the course of the war. According to Gallup, a substantial majority (57%) believe that neither side is winning, versus 12% who say Russia and 30% who say Ukraine. Even among Democrats, only 45% believe Ukraine is winning, versus 48% who answered neither. It remains to be seen whether America’s support for Ukraine will remain robust if the current Ukrainian counteroffensive fails to break the apparent stalemate.

Even more than the future of Ukraine is a stake as the U.S. presidential election heats up. Pew’s findings indicate 60% of Democrats believe that “it is best for the future of our country to be active in world affairs”, compared to 39% who say that “we should pay less attention to problems overseas and concentrate on problems here at home.” Among Republicans, however, fully 71% say that we should concentrate on domestic problems, while only 29% endorse an active international role for the United States. We will find out after the 2024 election whether these differences augur the greatest change in U.S. foreign policy since the Republican Party abandoned its longstanding isolationism after World War II.

Financier Ben Goldsmith claims Meghan Markle is disliked because she is a 'manipulative bully’.

Mr Goldsmith - who is the brother of minister Zac - made a number of allegations in a series of messages online in response to claims the Duchess was a victim of racism.

One of the three was deleted quickly but the claim Meghan had been unkind is still visible.

Mr Goldsmith - who was a non-executive board member of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs - said: 'We are far from perfect, but poll after poll shows British people to be among the most welcoming and the least racist anywhere.

'At the start Meghan was adored. Crowds thronged the streets at the wedding. Meghan is disliked because she is a manipulative bully who got found out.

'Meghan has come to personify the arrival of America’s deranged culture wars in Britain. ’

The Duchess of Sussex has been dogged by allegations of bullying, but has always strenuously denied them.

In June Buckingham Palace said it 'revised’ its HR policies in the wake of a report into allegations of bullying by Meghan.

But it added it would never publish the investigation, with a source claiming at the time: 'The household seems to be terrified of upsetting or provoking Harry and Meghan.’

Allegations emerged 18 months ago following complaints by staff during a 'toxic period’ before the couple emigrated in early 2020.

'Broken’ royal aides told of feeling humiliated, 'sick’, 'terrified’, left 'shaking’ with fear, and being reduced to tears.

Meghan was accused of having inflicted 'emotional cruelty’ on her staff and 'drove them out’. One branded the Sussexes 'outrageous bullies’.

Lawyers for the Sussexes vehemently denied the couple bullied or mistreated staff allegedly between late 2018 and early 2020.

Meghan then accused the of 'perpetuating falsehoods’ about her and Harry in their interview with Oprah Winfrey that was released hours after the allegations emerged in March 2021.

Royal aides announced in March last year that they were launching an inquiry into claims that Meghan’s ‘belittling’ behaviour while a working member of the Royal Family drove two female personal assistants out of the household and ‘undermined the confidence’ of a third.

Staff were said to have been left in tears and feeling ‘traumatised’ – with some likening their condition to having post-traumatic stress.

The Royal Household employed a third-party law firm, paid for by the family privately, to probe the claims in a move that some predicted could increase tensions between Harry and Meghan and ‘the institution’.

The allegations have always been strongly denied by the duchess, whose lawyers described them at the time as a ‘calculated smear campaign’. They did not respond to requests for comment yesterday.

Last year a palace spokesman made clear that the specifics of the allegations – which were brought to the attention of senior household staff at the time by Harry and Meghan’s concerned press secretary, Jason Knauf – would not be probed.

SORRY SORRY writer anon again, should've been more clear, when I said the writers "learned their lesson", I meant like. the writers of the more recent series can look back on the more "older" precure series' writing and be able to take away that the whole weird shipping subplots don't work out the majority of the time. (however I do feel like some precure series share some writers?? I gotta do more research on that...)

Also, I did some quick research, and the reason why they seem so reluctant to have gay people in precure/other shounen could be because, in Japan, LGBTQ+ people have "fewer legal protections", according to Wikipedia, and it seems a lot of Japanese courts have differing opinions on the recognition of same-sex marriage- like, for example, the Sapporo District court ruled in 2021 that not recognizing same-sex marriages was unconstitutional, however, other Japanese courts, like the Osaka ruled in June 2022 that it wasn't unconstitutional to not recognize them. There was also the ruling of the Tokyo District Court in November 2022 that was "the absence of same-sex marriage legislation was an unconstitutional state of affairs but did not violate the Constitution".

This ask got really long sorry oops!! but yeah, maybe in the future we'll get a Precure series that has a canonical gay character/canonical gay couple.

don't worry i love long asks! i get what you mean, every series has it quirks and you can tell when they've taken inspo from past seasons and applied it to the current one. i feel like a lot of the time they do make improvements and sometimes they also take a good few steps back and unfortunately hugtto was one of those instances. i think yui and takumi's relationship was really sweet much more suitable for a child audience. and yeah japan is pretty behind when it comes to lgbtq+ issues and its really sad. i feel like henri/masato and yukari/akira are about the closest we'll get to canon lgbt relationships atm but i hope in the future we'll be able to get more explicit representation but i think thats still a bit in the future unfortunately.
