What your headcanons about how martin courted his S/O?

Now this is very interesting. Martin of course is not used to pursuing someone for an actual relationship. He's used to sticking to the sidelines..observing and figuring out how to react. For the most part, the act of stalking his victims was pretty clean cut. He memorizes their routine, sticks close to the shadows..and then strikes with full knowledge that he'll never see them again. But with you--
He wanted more, he needed more. It was a complete surprise when you seemed to reciprocate his affection. He was used to following you from across the street, imagining a universe in which he'd actually be able to speak to you. But there you were, right there in front of him. He had to tread lightly.
He followed you for weeks, even months before finally pursuing a relationship. You were special.. He wanted to make sure you knew how special you were. He didn't want to miss a single detail.
He knew all your habits, he recognized your favorite type of gum from the wrapper you'd toss into the bin. Once you and Martin began to grow close, he paid attention to you all the more. He liked to bring you your favorite snack before work, or if anything leave it at your doorstep. Always one step ahead, he seemed to decipher your moods better than you could.
He follows your cues. If you were stressed, he never suggests for the two of you to venture out. Instead he plans a quiet date for the two of you at home. A reluctant introvert, Martin cold always sense when you were in a way. The weight of the world bothered you in such a way that he had to find a way to intervene.
He calls you often. Whether on lunch break, or during the few quiet hours when Cuda is away. Late at night when the desire is too strong, and he just needs to hear your voice. He phones you frequently, just to know how you're doing. He phones you in the morning just to make sure that you remember him.
Letters. You had let on in the beginning how much you adored hand written letters. You hadn't received a lot, but the majority of them were stored in a wooden box under your bed. The two of you managed to read through all of them one night. At the end of the chain Martin was in tears. He only wanted to express how much he cared about you the way the others did. He wanted to show you how things could be different.
Martin always seems to get bogged down when fully remembering his actual circumstances. Under his Cousin's roof, menial job, no true modes of transportation. He just wants to show up for you. He manages to crawl through your window with bouquets of wildflowers that he picked from the neighbor's lawn.
Martin brings you presents. dodging the security cameras, or simply scaling his way up to your balcony. When he wants you know that he cares there is never any doubt. The gift always manages to find its way to your hands.

Putting Sharpen to bed

Sharpen sat alone at the smithy, sharpening his axe blade. The dark metal sparked in the orange light. A master of his craft, he had his keen eyes on the stone, on his blade. But his vision hovered above that somewhat. He saw the axe in a haze. The sparks flickered only at the edge of his mind. He breathed out, he swept the stone down. He breathed in, then raised his hand with the stone again and checked just where he should place it along the metal edge. This was more of a meditation for the young Night Elf.
Cuda the ghost wolf had been watching for a short while, but the reassuring motions of his master lulled him to sleep. Sharpen had a confident air. They were always safe at a smithy. Familiar sights and sounds, warmth was all about. There was no need to keep watch, Cuda sensed.
Sharpen paused, mid-swipe, to eye his wolf. Usually animals hated the noises by a forge. The sizzle of molten metal, the pounding of hammers. Though one time back home, Sharpen did have to snatch a farm cat to safety, one that wanted into the fire pit. Cats loved heat and they were also weird, in Sharpen's opinion. Those things together made a mess.
Well, they were passionate hunters, sometimes eccentric about getting the kill. Maybe that was it. Cuda had always known better.
Sharpen longed to let the bright scenes of the day fade. He heard himself yelling again in his mind, ducking from danger, swinging that very axe and seeing it sink into his enemies. He kept his mouth shut now. He realized his jaw was tense, relaxed that. Tension in his large bicep eased off next. He exhaled and wanted only to use the strength necessary for this task. An exact balance of force, yet gentle precision in his fingers, on the stone, sliding down the axe. It forced fear and anger from his mind. Whatever succeeded or failed that day, he was grateful that he had a steady hand, an arm that was whole, an axe that was still in good condition.
"Excellent condition."
Hearing his own calm voice brought Sharpen a little awareness. Cuda raised his head, but was far too sleepy to be of use.
Sharpen knew that he sounded more relaxed. Perhaps he had achieved it. No other real thought came after that, just noticing the sensations of nighttime Valdrakken beyond the forge, anvils and the surrounding terrace. How easy and peaceful the Obsidian Enclave could be at night. He could have fallen asleep on his workbench, that massive battle axe in his hand.
He sat there in just his apron and slacks. No shirt. Too hot by the forge for that. He supposed there was some soot on his bare chest as well. His hands were smeared with it.
A woman came nearby to fetch a hammer. She did that with skill, lifting it from the rack with subtle agility, an enticing eagerness. He knew that feeling. She was also short. In his languid way, Sharpen took a while to realize she was a Dwarf.
"Oh--" She startled seeing Cuda there. Any animal inside a smithy, really.
"He's asleep." Cuda was still trying not to be, for Sharpen's sake. He smirked and patted Cuda, then pushed that fuzzy old wolf head back down to rest.
It was time to call it a night. Man and beast were done.
The Dwarf woman with beautiful dark red hair had paused, admiring his wolf, though. Sharpen felt himself warming up, wished she would look at him that way. Though it really was too late at night, too odd a time in history, too unusual a place--the Dragon Isles--to go about something fiendish like Sharpen was starting to imagine.
He tried not to watch her work too much. But the way she hefted up a very exotic-looking shield to the anvil, then fondled the intricate pattern with impossibly patient fingers, finding her way before taking a single careful strike, he found it exciting. Really, it was art. She was a talented craftswoman. Possibly an actual Khaz'Modan shield maiden, way out here. He noticed the sigil of Ironforge, well half of it. Sharpen hadn't moved a stitch, but he felt like he'd walked into one of his fantasies.
And she was the most beautiful Dwarf woman he had ever seen. Amber eyes, olive skin. Gorgeous curves. He squeezed his hand shut tight against the sharpening stone to quell the impulse he really had, to go and hold her.
He wondered if this was like approaching a woman in the exercise yard? She might think him crude to even consider disrupting her work. He looked down at his axe again, pretending to inspect it. He needed to buy more time and think this through. However, really dirty thoughts were starting to prevent thinking at all.
There's no ring on her finger...
Sharpen blinked and looked someplace else, up at the ceiling, rather than stare at her. There were beautiful braids crisscrossing the back of this woman's ruby hair that he could not conceive of anyone weaving, and now he wanted to dig his fingers in and unweave them himself. Or just try to and pull. While she straddled him. Bucked and truly enjoyed him, called him the ram he was.
No, don't think that...
Two naked bodies warm from the forge, sweating, striped with soot as they kissed. Was it even safe to get up in his aroused state? Let alone go over and talk to the woman?
A long, agonizing moment went by when her hammering stopped and he knew she was taking a blacksmith's mental pause, as he had just done, to check her work. To see if an axe was sharp enough. To know whether a shield was honed and right. Now was the time.
"I-I guess I'm done." Had he stuttered? Sharpen fast felt like an idiot. And he was talking to the room, sort of in a polite way. Saying goodbye to this woman he didn't know was a little scary. Certainly, she was a stranger, for one. But then he also didn't want to leave her so soon.
"Aye." Was her casual response. Head down, hammering all over again.
Sharpen noted that a Dracthyr took his toolbox and left, then. So they were the last ones on the terrace.
Cuda made his little noises, fur rustling as he shook it out and then stood on his paws, nails lightly scraping the stone floor. Sharpen chose to make his way toward the archway nearest the Dwarven beauty.
He saw the masterpiece she was creating. It shone like nothing else and warring dragons were tangled across the shield. It looked a lot like what he wanted to do with his body against hers, the two of them so beautifully tangled up.
Looking over her lovely shoulder just then was so intimate. Her sweet cheek, her proud smile. A loop of her dark red hair coming loose. Just ask her, man! In mere moments, you'll hear more of her voice, her breath, possess her scent. Night Elves secretly longed to have a potential lover's scent. As soon as possible. That embedded in the memory, the fantasy, like nothing else.
Sharpen isn't the kind of guy to ever admit he would look down a woman's shirt, but that night as he walked by, respectfully he hoped... No, he absolutely did.
"Come on, Cuda."
Sharpen came back to himself minutes later, hearing his boots striking the cobblestone street. He and his wolf were several feet away from the forge and his shieldmaiden.
He tried not to think of it as a defeat or some failure at the end of the day. After all, he didn't want to impose himself so late in the evening. She may have said No, or had a boyfriend. And wasn't he tired?
He got out safe, and she could focus on her work. It looked as if it was her life's work, that incredible shield.
But how easy would it have been to just ask something about the shield? Anything at all to ease into flirting. Maybe she would have felt flattered? Made her day. Just imagine it. If he was her and he had asked himself... wait.
In the end, Sharpen reasoned he was too wound up to do anything properly. Maybe he was more horny than reasonable to begin with. Then, he almost strained his neck, trying to look back.
"An Ironforge angel! Out here? I am going to regret that for the rest of my life."
Well, your young life while in Valdrakken, Sharpen. Poor thing, you'll survive.

ATSUMU'S P.O.V.
Back when life was normal, I was an automobile mechanic. I owned the shop, lived in the apartment above, and spent most of my time fixing similar cars with similar issues. I didn't have a problem with it, I enjoyed my life, especially when I first met Kiyoomi. He had come in with his black 2056 Plymouth Barracuda like the one in Fast & Furious 22. I could go on and on about how it's made up like a 50s AAR 'Cuda that's prized because of its rarity, but I'll just leave that story for another time.
Anyway, my jaw was to the floor when I first saw this car roll into the shop, but it somehow dropped even further when I saw Kiyoomi Sakusa step out. Though he wore a black mask and made sure to keep his distance from me, I decided that I wasn't going to let him leave without my number.
So, I did what any other sane person would do, I made sure to fix his car just enough so he'd be safe to drive home, but that he'd need to return within the next week or two. 
Because of my wonderful plan, Kiyoomi did return the following week. I gave him my personal number in case anything was to ever go wrong again and unfortunately enough, it did. Thank god he knew nothing about cars so I was able to make up the excuse that 50s cars were just built horrifically. 
After some time, Kiyoomi started to warm up to me as his personal car fixer. He was less worried about keeping his distance and more worried about whatever the hell was going wrong with his car. But that's when I realized it was the perfect time to strike.
One evening, I was at Kiyoomi's house fixing his car that couldn't even leave the driveway when he offered me inside. Obviously, I agreed, and then obviously one thing led to another.
The following week, after messaging over more than his 'Cuda, I asked him out. The two of us started hanging out more and more often. However, it began to make me feel a bit anxious. I never told him, out of fear of his reaction, about the true nature of my auto repair shop. The reason why I was so good at messing up his car was because it's what I did every day I'd mess up a few cars that came into the shop and tell their owners that their cars were beyond repair. They'd sell 'em to me and I'd sell them to somebody else after fixing them just enough that they should run smoothly enough for a decent amount of time.
Anyway, I sold one of these shitty cars to a lawyer, claiming that it was practically new. We shook on it and he bought the car, which put a wave of relief over my shoulders. However, one night as I'm sitting in my apartment above the shop with Kiyoomi, I hear a car race down the street and pull up just outside the shop. I look down from my window and see the lawyer on his phone standing outside the crappy car I sold him.
Mere minutes later, police arrived. Apparently, this lawyer was helping his sister, some detective who was after me. Anyway, about four police cars showed up and banged on my door.
"What's going on?" Kiyoomi asks as he watches the red and blue lights shine into the apartment.
"I, uh, I don't know," I lie as I frantically rush around my house to find a backpack I can throw a few belongings in. I had no intention of going to prison.
"You should answer the door," Kiyoomi suggests, but I only ignore him. That was probably the worst decision I could have made because the next time I glance over at him, he's got the door wide open and allowing the detective inside.
"Shit," I mutter to myself as I toss my backpack away and attempt to calmly walk toward the two of them. "How can I help you, officer?" I ask.
"Detective Brielle Moreau," she corrects me. "I'm here for the arrest of Mr. Atsumu Miya."
"Under what charge?" Kiyoomi asks, making my heart sink to the floor.
"Under the several charges of fraud and misrepresentation of multiple cars," Detective Moreau insists.
Kiyoomi looks over at me with his curious eyes that make my heart absolutely shatter. The last thing I'd ever want is to be taken away to jail, but there's no way out of this. Even if there was, I'd never be able to see Kiyoomi again. He'd probably never forgive me either. Especially after the way I wrecked his 'Cuda over several times.
"I'm Atsumu Miya," I say with a sigh as I step toward the detective. I hold out my hands to her, my eyes glued to the ground. "Do what you must."
"Mr. Atsumu Miya, you are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand the rights I have just read to you?" the detective says as she throws handcuffs around me.
"Yes," I nod as I let her drag me off. Not once do I look over at Kiyoomi. How could I? I know it seems selfish but I just couldn't face him again after that.
Once I was dragged off to jail, Kiyoomi tried to get in contact with me. He'd even send me money and letters, but I'd always return them. I didn't think it was right for me to take even more away from him. 
In jail, I met some new faces. We all got along for awhile, and even came up with a name for ourselves! But once the jailbreak started, it was every man for himself. We tried to make it work for awhile until a fight broke out between me and another member. We both ended up in bad shape but we walked away and started to create new lives for ourselves. 
After all of that, I happened to run into a guy I used to know back in my high school days. The two of us worked together to steer clear of more trouble and for some time we did well until my little brother came to collect me.
I never saw Kiyoomi again, but I'm pretty sure that's for the best. I have no idea what I'd ever say to him if I saw him again.
And that, Y/N, is the end of my story. I don't really plan on telling you any of this unless something happens to me. I know you'll be the one to clean up my things which is why I've placed this letter in the box of my shoulder brace.
If you ever do read this, please remember that my brother and I do try to be good people. It may not always look that way, but I promise I did try. 
One more thing. There's someone amongst you who isn't who they say they are. I don't want to give them away because, at one point, they were my friend. I hope they'll do the right thing and fess up. But if they don't, be careful.
And if you ever see Kiyoomi, give him my regards, okay?

THIRD PERSON P.O.V.
Atsumu rolls up his long letter to Y/N and stuffs it down into the bottom of the box that Y/N gave him for his shoulder brace. He then slides it under the couch and sits right above it. With a sigh, he wonders if there really will be a time when Y/N reads it. 
He knows that if Y/N ever does read it, she'll be in a lot more trouble than she's ever realized.

Thank you Mustad USA! Another shore jigging day in the books. Used their 20g Tracershot from shore. Again. Been using the same golden/green jig for months now. Had a Cuda hit it the day before. The tone was acerbically sarcastic, punctuated with a roll of twinkly green eyes peeking from beneath Kendall’s unkempt fringe. If James wasn’t standing in the middle of their living room sopping wet and wearing nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist, he would have found this a just little bit more flattering.
“I was just asking you if you could maybe duck out for a bit and buy me some ‘Cuda Valiant Volume mousse from the convenience store?” James begged with clasped hands and his best set of puppy-eyed grin, the one he only reserved for pure desperation and his boyfriend’s crankier moods—i.e. now. “Come onnn, it shouldn’t take five minutes, and I’ll pay you back, I swear!”
“Kinda busy here.” mumbled Kendall, listless fingers tapping the glossy cover of his perused Pop Tiger magazine. He touched one digit to the tip of his tongue and used it to turn to another page, mildly ho-humming as he did so and making the back of James’ neck prickle from growing impatience.
“Well, me too, ‘cause this is a serious hair-mergency, and there is no way I’m heading out with a ‘do that’s not curl-defined, hydrated, and couldn’t fight humidity and frizz—it’s my image and rep on the line here too!” James insisted. “And I’d ask Carlitos to do it, but he’s taking his afternoon siesta and I really don’t wanna disturb a sleeping bear, and like Logan’s locked up in his room zonked out on those huge sciencey word pages about the human anatomy or whatever as usual, so...pretty pretty prettyyyy please with lots of rainbow sprinkles on top, Kenny-boo?”
“Hmmm...drop the towel and we’ll talk.”
The way the blond demanded this brazen request so casually took the stupefied James aback.
“Kendall Donald Knight...what has gotten into you?”
“This has.”
Tossing aside the publication he was pretending to read, Kendall zipped to his feet, seized James by his blowdried hair, and crashed their lips together, sultry breaths exploding in knockout starlights and right out of James’ overwhelmed senses as Kendall deftly made tangled sweetness out of their mouths, painstakingly sculpted every bare curve and slippery muscle, and left his enamoured fingerprints all over the newly-showered boy.....all before painfully cutting their kiss short and leaving the chagrined James in a slack-jawed daze.
“Whoops, I messed up your bangs,” Kendall dropped back on the couch and shrugged as if nothing happened, “so I guess I’m gonna have to get you that hair mousse, after all.”
“Maybe later.” replied James, clicking his lightly-bruised tongue against the roof of his mouth. It tasted of their SelMart-brand toothpaste and Kendall’s favourite pink smoothie flavour, artificially saccharine and mingling with faded mint and oh-so decadently disorienting, but the taller boy took a steely breath and managed to hold his footing. “‘Cause I still have to pay you back—but then again, you shouldn’t take five minutes.”
“You’re a jerk, James weird-middle-name-I-promised-to-never-say Diamond.” The tone was acerbically sarcastic, punctuated with a teasing wink that asked for something more, something different, something new. “You’re lucky I’m hot for that.”
James shot a cursory glance at the magazine by their carpet (half-open in some couple quiz page), smirking as he let go of the skimpy towel and used his freed hand to swoop Kendall in by his irresistibly svelte hips. As usual, Kendall was right and wrong—because James wasn’t just lucky, he had won the whole lottery of life, and he was gonna strike up his dumb chances and make the best out of both of them.
“I really don’t know what’s gotten into you, Kenny-boo...but damn, I really like it.”

Thanks to the distraction Hal Jordan provided, Tempest Shadow was able to recharge her ring. Back to peak performance, she was plowing through the opponents the Dark Champion summoned. But that's when she was hit by a powerful blast. It dazed her a bit, but she kept fighting. “You again? I thought I took care of you after I took their power!” the shooter said. It was the Storm King and he had a fully charged Staff of Sacanas. “Well, that's an easy fix.” He aimed the Staff towards Tempest Shadow. The Green Lantern was ready to fight her past.
Kenshiro made multiple heads explode. Thanks to his fighting style it wasn't too hard to defeat these minions. When a figure approached him, seeing the intent in his eyes, the 64th successor performed the Hokuto Zankai Ken on the person. With both thumbs to that person's temples, Kenshiro gave him notice. “When I release this, you will have three seconds to live. I advises you to meditate on the folly of your choices.” The Master of the Hokuto Shinken released them. After three seconds, Kenshiro was punched in the chest. “Even death is beneath me.”

Sparkster may have lost the Keys to the Seals, but he still has a blade. At least that's what he thought before facing Dark Meta Knight. Like the true Meta Knight, Sparkster was unable to overcome his opponent. But what this Doppelganger lacked in honor, it made up for in aggression. The Rocket Knight was disarmed and his rockets damaged. If Dark Meta Knight attacked now, he surely would be done for. Yet just as the Mirror Copy went for a strike, it was blocked by Palutena's staff. “You may not be one of my angels, but you do have my blessing.”
In the middle of the good side, Alphys and Goombella are being protected by Hal and Jeff. “I have never seen so many Levels of Violence this high in one place. Not even the War against the Humans had such numbers documented.” “And their other stats vary all sort of ways. Some may even give Mario a run for his money.” “And how are we supposed to protect them Jeff?” “We're not. We're just standing here as long as we can before one of those things can reach us.” Alphys looks on to see Undyne fighting. “Stay safe Undyne...”

Cuda and Frieza fights. The Evil Emperor is in his Golden Form and seems to be having the advantage. “What a pathetic excuse for one of my kind! You should be conquering galaxies, surrounding yourself with those that fear you! You're not even in your final for...” Frieza was cut off as Cuda punched him in the gut. The Middle Ground's Frost Demon was using Kaioken for that attack. “I may have slipped up in that event, but I'm not going to be the first one that falls from our side!” Cuda then uses his tail to hit Frieza to the ground.
Sonic is knocking opponents left and right alongside Whis. Without even saying a thing, the two grabbed hands and used each other to launch themselves behind their partner. “I am impressed. Your mastery of Ultra Instinct rivals that of even us Angels. I do wish my Goku was here to take note.” Sonic smirked. “Honestly this is the first I heard of it. All I know is if you spend so much time worrying about what happens, it'll slow you down.” Sonic charges a Super Peel Out and rushes out into battle. “I wonder if a Goku would ever have such a mastery of it.”

A few data mining projects (law enforcement/intelligence) have really got in the way of themselves. So much data is being classified that doesn't need to be that it's resulting in a huge number of false positives, redundant data, and just plain waste. There are some programs to fix this problem and to clean up a lot of inaccurately marked data. Seems clear that we are trudging over the same material over and over again. Declassified Walsh report from about a decade ago seems to cover a lot of the same ground that we are now covering in regards to surveillance/intelligence collection by law enforcement/intelligence. Nice resource on biometrics. Seems clear that a lot more work research needs to be done though. Nice introduction to reverse engineering. A lot of work is being done with regards to cyberwarfare rules of engagement/playbooks at the moment. The 'Tallinn Report' is one attempt by NATO at covering these issues.
Is it possible to convert an Arduino device into an automated password cracking device? Believe it may be possible since it all it need do is send a stream of characters right? Will leave this experiment for when I have more spare time. Looking at issues related to export control and cybersecurity it seems clear that there is quite a bit of flawed logic/hypocrisy out there at times. Countries/people clearly want stronger security/the ability to withstand any attack and yet they still want to maintain the ability to be able to attack others. One example of this is that depending on the nations involved even export of defensive capabilities/services is tightly controlled/restricted to neutrals and sometimes even allies. The irony is that the Internet already provides people/states with enough knowledge already to be able to acquire the knowledge themselves from both the defensive and offensive perspective. Take a look at the current Syrian crisis as an example with regards to their makeshift weapons, rockets, and even a hybrid car/tank. Where there is a will there is often away (though it may be more difficult). Another thing that needs to be thought of is that human thought is often iterative. Inductive leaps in theory and implementation are far rarer than one may think. Many things can be inferred or reversed. Critical sectors such as law enforcement, intelligence, defense, and advanced research and development have all been caught out (undercover agents, sources, and scientists blew via Facebook, Google, and so on).

So you have picked your coin or algorithm (algorithms sometimes mine multiple coins switching between which one is more profitable). Now you need a miner. Note not all miner programs work with both Nvidia/AMD most of the recent ones tend to optimize Nvidia over AMD or don't support AMD at all. A - For cash (ZEC) you will want to use EWBF's CUDA Zcash miner v0.3.4b. 0.3.3b is also fine. This miner will give you around 30% boost of most other cash miners. C - Make sure you have a BTC wallet where you want to send your BTC as this guide is showing you how to mine ZEC but auto-convert it to BTC as this is generally the best practice.
If you want to actually keep the coin you are mining that is more complicated and I will not be showing it here but you can easily google for the solution. You can use an exchange or you can use your own personal wallet or you can use Nicehash wallet. Personally, I use nicehash wallet as there is a 3% fee to use the external wallet and a 2.3% fee if you use nicehash. Also if you go external and you have only one card the minimum payout usually takes a week. If you use the nicehash wallet you can get paid out every day or every second day. D - Select your mining pool. You can solo mine or pool mine. Think of it as a real gold mine. You are trying to find blocks or in this case gold. If you are by yourself in a big gold mine you could go for months and find nothing or strike gold if you were super lucky. If you go as a group and share all the profits regardless of who finds what that is what a mining pool is.

$2.2 Million Shelby Super Snake Makes Headlines at 2019 Mecum Kissimmee Auction
The first weekend in January might seem early to begin the 2019 event season in the muscle car hobby, but it seems to suit Mecum’s auction schedule quite well. The Silver Spur arena in Florida’s Osceola Heritage Park bridged the first two weekends of January with 10 days of sales. Hundreds of muscle cars were offered at this event, ranging from survivor-status machines and pristine restorations to drivers that were bought right. As always, this event helps provide a solid barometer for what is going on with market demand and values as we open the current year. Prices noted will include buyer’s premiums.
Snake Bit
A heated bidding war between two potential buyers drove up the price of the one-of-one Shelby Super Snake to a final selling price of $2.2 million.
By far the most exciting sales moment of the event was Friday’s offering of the legendary one-off 1967 Shelby Super Snake Mustang. The fastback had been constructed using a GT40-derived 427ci racing engine for Goodyear to use in research tire testing. It had eventually been sold for $5,000 to the public through a Shelby franchise dealer after the tire job was completed and the company had returned the special pony back to Shelby American for refreshing. Well preserved, this Ford has been lightly restored to its as-released-to-Goodyear condition, and the one-of-one supercar had previously established the top price for any Mustang, selling for $1 million at a Mecum event several years ago. With changes in the market during the ensuing time, could the Super Snake strike again? Oh, yeah.
Shelbys are proving to hold their value well, particularly models made before Ford took over production in 1968. This 1967 G.T. 500, documented as a dealer demonstrator and the personal car of Shelby regional rep Ed Casey, sold for $330,000.
Bidding climbed rapidly to $800,000, then $900,000, and the reserve came off as the $1-million threshold was crossed. Two bidders then went hard after it at $100,000 a pop, finally settling at hammer time to a monster $2.2 million.
Indeed, Shelbys were strong at the event, with a 1965-to-1966 G.T. 350 carryover model bringing home $440,000, and a documented 1967 G.T. 500 dealer demonstrator going to its next home thanks to $330,000. In all three cases, provenance and singular-example conditioning was key, factors that tend drive the top of every established field of collecting. It was remarked to me by one Shelby-experienced onlooker that Shelbys are unique among American builders, with an international appeal thanks to Carroll Shelby’s racing prowess, AC relationship, and personality. Literally all competition Shelby cars have pushed up in value over the years, and cars produced by Shelby American before Ford’s takeover of the franchise seem to hold a special appeal regardless, though the 1968-1970 models remain in solid demand as well.
COPOs and Hemis: Reality is Selling Cars
The fifth-highest sales price of the entire sale was the $495,000 paid for this ZL1 Camaro, 15th of the 69 built and a former Dick Harrell team drag car.
There is an adage about the skittishness of the stock market: When people sense it is unstable, it pushes up prices in other fields, including collectible cars. While the stock market has seen rapid gyrations during the past year, many still feel the fundamentals are solid, so money has remained there to an extent. For people who purchased top-dollar cars during the previous uncertainty, the current environment might, frankly, not be conducive to doubling your money like the past owner of the Super Snake did, and that fact is a result of market forces outside of the hobby.
Hemi E-body hardtops were all bidding up to somewhere under the $300,000 mark, and COPO Camaros were likewise. Selling prices were in the $160,000-$220,000 range here, with several nice cars changing hands and several others going home with their owners. The big exception was a beautiful ZL1 Camaro in silver, number 15 of the 69 built and once raced out of the Dick Harrell team stables by Jim Leatherman. It crossed the block late on Saturday to sell with a $495,000 final price. The top two Yenko sales were a Daytona Yellow 1969 Camaro automatic (one of 30 built) and a well-restored 1966 Yenko Stinger with a Phase III-style race engine, both at $220,000, the later at far over its estimate. Several other 1969 9561 COPOs were no-sales at $200,000-plus, with a 1969 SS/RS in Hugger Orange with houndstooth being our favorite.
A convertible LS6 is rare; one with Berger provenance is rarer still. This one was bid to $375,000 but did not sell.
Hemi B-bodies have also settled down, with a one-of-one loaded 1971 Hemi Charger in strong at $209,000 leading the pack. Engine expert Larry Shepard brought in his 4,200-mile, one-family 1971 Hemi Road Runner to see a $176,000 final sale, and a beautiful 1970 Hemi Coronet Super Bee, bronze four-speed with matched bronze bench-seat interior, brought $159,500, giving the market a real world price on these models when coupled to the $137,000 1970 R/T sale last year. And speaking of big Hemi cars, one of MCR’s mechanical alumni, the former Roy Badie Hemi GTX featured in the magazine’s very first supercar shootout during the 1980s, showed up here and hammered sold for $110,000. A number of other Hemi cars were under the $100,000 threshold, and some went into Mecum’s The Bid Goes On when block prices did not meet the expectation of sellers.
While these cars are considered blue chip models, we would say there does appear to be some softening in this area from the highs of previous years. While a quarter-million is never “pocket change,” for those who are well-heeled to play at this level, it is possible to buy some very good cars, keeping in mind that issues of provenance and condition are always the best indicators of future strength.
Fresh Air
This 1969 Z/28 was one of the last 427 Camaro conversions done by Baldwin-Motion. It was drag raced by its first owner until he brought it to Baldwin-Motion for conversion in 1974. It subsequently passed through several hands before being bought by Mike Guarise in 2001, who had it restored to its Motion glory. It sold for $93,500.
While big-block Corvette roadsters led the pack among the big dollar post-1960 sales, there were a number of valuable convertibles among the 816 droptop examples here in Florida. Top bid for any muscle version was $375,000 for a remarkable Berger-sold 1970 Chevelle LS6, which was turned down by the seller. That put a 1970 ’Cuda, U-code 440-4BBL with factory A/C and elastomeric bumpers, in as the top muscle-era sale at $165,000. Of the 36 droptops whose price topped $100,000 and sold, four were GTOs, two were Mopars, one an LS6 Chevrolet, and one more a Shelby; the rest were not muscle cars, though a number of Bid Goes On cars hit the $170,000 mark or over.
There were also some excellent deals if you have been in the market for “fresh air” in the cockpit. Top deal in our opinion was a scarce yet solid 1970 Olds Cutlass Supreme Indy 500 pace car edition, believed to be a small-block, that sold for $27,500. A number of other 4-4-2s, Chevelles, and performance Mopar 440ci converts were sold for less than $75,000. Topping $100,000 were two of the aforementioned GTOs, both from the special BMF Collection that ran on Friday, one a black 1969 Ram Air IV at $132,000 and the other a green 1971 455 HO at $110,000.
Formerly in the Tim Wellborn collection, this 1971 Hemi Charger R/T is believed to be the only one painted Plum Crazy and with a white top and interior. It sold for $209,000.
This is a marketplace that is perhaps a little more mercurial at the moment, and if you have been wanting one, shopping could prove productive. There are deals out there. One noticeable car that did not sell was a real 1967 SS427 Impala, maroon with matched red interior and a rare L72/four-speed/console combination, which climbed to an even $100,000 before rolling away unsold. In this case, we can understand why that owner might have wanted to wait. A very nice piece.
Competition – Hesitation Kills
Tim Wellborn later joked his phone was ringing within moments after buying a 1971 Road Runner for $44,000. It was a Wedge-powered version in Petty Blue. With 43s on the doors and Richard Petty on the hammer in the announcing stand as it crossed the block, this display car from the Petty Garage was one of several vehicles from King Richard’s stables, which ranged from 1950s GMs to late-model machines, that sold at no reserve. If you want to buy a vintage race car, this is the season for it, as prices on factory specials and vintage racers alike are off of their highs of a decade ago. Top charger here was a documented 1964 Ford T-bolt that thundered to $247,500 on Saturday, while the top seller not considered among the “factory drag” models was the Chrisman Bros. legendary land speed car from 1954, which had raced up to a big $484,000 final total an hour later.
A relative steal: This King Cobra is one of what is believed to be three prototypes Ford built to compete with Chrysler’s aero warriors in NASCAR before the winged cars were banned and the Ford project was stillborn. The only one built with a Boss 429 and four-speed, it sold for $192,500 against a pre-sale estimate of $350,000 to $400,000.
GM’s Other Guys and AMC
Buick sales were led off by a classic from the 1950s at over $250,000, with a GSX from the BMF collection hammering home to a $126,500 finale. A 1970 Stage 1 was hammered “Sold!” for $39,600 on Friday, while several others did not meet reserves. In the Olds category, the top seller in muscle was lot S240, which garnered $99,000 for a 1970 4-4-2 convertible. A 1969 H/O hit $90,200; and the top 10 in the Olds category overall were mainly convertibles, led again by a big 1950s-era model at close to a quarter-million. A 1967 4-4-2 on Wednesday was well-bought at $17,600, and several nice 350ci converts under $30,000 were sold as well.
Pontiac, on the other hand, led with muscle, with an unrestored Ram Air III 1969 Trans Am at $165,000, followed by 10 other Ponchos at more than $95,000. A bid of $140,250 moved a 1-of-14 four-speed, A/C-equipped 1970 Judge convertible to a new home, while $101,750 was paid for a 1971 455 HO hardtop. A number of buyers did hold their reserves, but $18,700 was the magic number for a rebuilt 1970 GTO during the first day of the event. We also felt $34,100 for a truly beautiful 1967 428ci Gran Prix convertible in red and white was money well spent. Pontiac remains one of the better marques to have solid interest over multiple years between 1960 and 1980; top of the 1970s TAs was a 1976 50th Anniversary model with excellent originality and provenance that sold on Thursday for $110,000.
Longtime readers will no doubt remember the 1984 “Supercar Shootout” that pitted a Hemi GTX against a Stage 1 Buick for dragstrip supremacy and bragging rights that have lasted for decades. This is the very GTX that represented the Mopar faithful. It went to a new owner for $110,000.
Of the 3,500-plus cars here, just 15 were AMCs, with the top three sellers being a 1970 Rebel Machine at $67,100 and two 1969 SC/Ramblers that sold back-to-back on Friday for $44,000 apiece. This is one area where it appears demand is not driving pricing at present.
Mopes and Mercs
Of course, among the many muscle cars here were cars from Ford and Chrysler as well.  Of 120 Dodges with results, 77 sold and probably one of the event’s best buys was a final Sunday morning no-reserve 1964 Polara 500 convertible, a solid mild custom with a poly-type 318, that hammered sold for $7,700. Two 2018 Demons and a rare 1962 Max Wedge joined Dodge Hemi cars in the $100,000 Sold! Club before the weekend ended. For Plymouth fans, with 55 sold of 83 results showing, it was a tie between a 1965 426 Fury and a lightly-modified 1967 Barracuda tying at $15,950 that we thought were well-bought muscle. With the exception of the blue ’Cuda convertible already mentioned, only multi-carb models were over $100,000 in the Mayflower tribe, with six 426 Hemi cars joined by one M-code 1969 6BBL ’Runner and a 1961 Fury convertible with long-rams.
If FoMoCo blue is in your veins, there were more than 600 to choose from here. Muscle came on strong starting with the T-bolt, followed by a prototype 1970 Boss 429 King Cobra NASCAR special at $192,500. If we had been shopping bargains, it was a 427-powered 1967 Ranchero at $11,000 on the first day that would have been our pick. Of the Mercs, the 428 Cougar we featured on a Facebook post ended at $110,000, then a big drop to $40,700 for a modified 1964 K-code Cyclone hardtop. A second 289 model, a 1964 convertible, was our buy of the week at $12,100. Rare pre-1960 Mercury models were stronger than muscle-era stuff this year, and Ford street rods built right were also in the top 10 from Dearborn.
A three-ring binder of documentation came with this Thunderbolt, one of the real-deal T-bolts made by Ford subcontractor Dearborn Steel Tubing for drag racing. A high bid of $247,500 sold it.
Conclusion
The year is young, and if any thing is certain for 2019, it is that nothing is set in stone. So long as the overall U.S. economy remains strong, Mecum and the other auction houses will continue to find new homes for cars of owners who want to sell. Moreover, there is no lack of buyers for either the rarest or the reasonably-priced vehicles. This modest level of adjustment is healthy for the hobby, and it will be interesting to see where things pan out as the year goes on.
Not just another Mustang, this is a rare (one of an estimated 340) German export T-5 convertible from the Wayne Davis collection. Ford couldn’t call its ponycars Mustang in Germany as the name was already copyrighted by a truck manufacturer. The subject of a concours restoration, the Nightmist Blue drop-top sold for $93,500.
The first owner of this Canadian-spec In-Violet ’Cuda was a drag racer who took its Hemi to replace the blown motor in his Super Bee. Years later the original engine was found, and it came with the car when it sold for $214,500.
The highest price paid for a Yenko car at Kissimmee was the $220,000 bid for this Daytona Yellow Camaro, a double COPO that received a body-off restoration in 2004.
Longtime road racer Don Yenko was turning Corvairs into hot Stinger models before his crew ever turned a wrench on a Camaro. At a selling price of $220,000, this example, the 74th of the first 100 built in 1966 and a nearly perfect MCACN Concours Gold winner, doubled its pre-auction estimate.
This flight of 1971 models had mixed results on the block. The Trans Am in the foreground, with its matching-numbers 455 HO and PHS docs, sold for $58,300. The ’Cuda in the background, its billboard announcing its 340 V-8, sold for $73,700. But $75,000 wasn’t enough to sell the unrestored, 15,000-mile Boss 351 Mustang in the middle.
Among the GTO convertibles on offer at Kissimmee was this one-of-45 1969 RAIV/four-speed from the BMF collection. Concours restored and carrying PHS documentation, it sold for $132,000.
There were 411 Chargers built in 1968 with a Hemi and a four-speed. This one retains its matching-numbers engine and unrestored interior, and is believed to have gone just 36,000 miles. The final $148,500 bid found it a new home.
Mecum called this the “Holy Grail of Cougar muscle cars,” a one-of-one (per the Marti Report) equipped with a 428 Super Cobra Jet, four-speed manual, and Drag Pack option with 4.30 gears and Traction-Lok. A high bid of $110,000 bought the cat.
Some 96 Twister Special Mustangs were made in 1970 as a promotion for Kansas City-area dealers. Half had 351 Cleveland engines, the other half, like this example, received 428 Super Cobra Jets. The $130,000 high bid did not sell the ’Stang.
Late of the Gast Classic Motorcars Museum in Pennsylvania, this unrestored 1969 Trans Am showed just under 31,000 miles and retained its original 400ci V-8/four-speed drivetrain. It changed hands for $165,000.
Hemi expert Larry Shepard has had this 1971 Hemi Road Runner in his family since new. His father drag raced the car after replacing the factory motor with a race Hemi and stripping out the interior. It then spent years in storage before Larry reinstalled the original Elephant and interior and resprayed the sheetmetal in its factory Tor Red. Larry parted with the car for $176,000.
This pair of ponycars landed in Mecum’s The Bid Goes On after crossing the block. The Camaro, a double-COPO car and one of 58 made with the Rally Sport option, failed to sell at a high bid of $200,000. Next to it is a Paxton-supercharged 1968 Shelby G.T. 350 that was a no-sale at $75,000.
One of the best deals at the auction was the $27,500 paid for this 1970 Olds Cutlass pace car.
Speaking of bargains, $29,700 was all it took to buy this 440-powered 1973 Dodge Charger, which had to be far less than the cost of the car’s rotisserie restoration.
Listed as having its matching-numbers engine and “extensive documentation,” this drop-top 1966 4-4-2 changed hands for $52,800.
Don’tcha just love the long intake runners on this 1961 Fury convertible’s Sonoramic 383 V-8? Part of the Wayne Davis collection, the Fury had been treated to an “extensive” restoration and sold for $121,000.
“Patina of authenticity” is how Mecum described the paint condition on this unrestored 1967 Coronet R/T. It’s one of 121 built with a Hemi and A833 four-speed. An $82,500 high bid sold it.

A Himbo Man and his... Wolf? Wolves? Himwolves?
Sharpen reflects on a hunt gone wrong and the true nature of his very kindred wolf pet Cuda.

Sharpen unbuttoned his plaid shirt and spread out on the couch. What a long day. Cuda, his wolf, had found some humanoid bones up in the mountains. A hike turned into a sort of investigation, which turned into a sudden panicked pitch-battle with a man-eating yeti.
The burly Night Elf man had tried to stop his wolf from taking it too far—the bones were older. But then they came across some boot tracks that were fresh and much too close to the den for whoever it was to be safe.
Flashes of what had happened made him inhale a sharp breath now. The red of blood, the flash of fangs, his own furious shouts competing with that. Everything, his steel knife, his voice, all clashing against the stone walls. And at the time, what Sharpen feared could have been—this fight exploding out of his control at any minute. A routine hike through the woods with his wolf turning savage, evil, a claw cutting too deep, or cutting into his neck, slashing open his belly. Dragging him back through the snowy woods of Winterspring, freezing and covered in his own blood. Never making it. Every wild encounter was like that. Death was always at the brink of things.
But control the fight, engage the monster directly and control it, win, and you’ll live.
Sharpen remembered feeling foolish and then getting angrier than he had been in a while. This nightmare wretch was taking and killing men. Going out of his way to hunt mortals like him. The damned yeti knew better, this dominant male was big enough and so old enough to have seen plenty of encounters just like this one, with something that wasn’t meant to be prey suddenly using a gun, a sword, a shield, anything against him and fighting for their lives. But this was cruel on the yeti’s behalf. The way the big male sat quietly and let the tamed wolf wander into his territory, only attacking when the mortal man, the wolf’s master followed. In moments, Sharpen and Cuda had become the prey.
Sharpen had been slammed against cold rock wall. He remembered seeing black, wondering if he’d knocked his head and cracked it open. If he was bleeding inside his skull, then he was done, whether he got a lethal strike on the creature or not. The yeti, its shoulders far above him, came down like a thunderhead then. That yeti gave a roar that could rattle bones, and they did clatter all around the dark cave. Sharpen had a knife, only a knife. The beast had snapped his hunting bow in half.
Sharpen remembered his gaze racing up and down the yeti’s torso, trying to judge the logical spot to stick the knife in. He knew that same hand was shaking and it was down to making a single, perfect strike to end this. Or, his best hope was to at least mortally wound the creature, bring him enough pain to get around him and get the hell out of there.
That was when the wolf Sharpen called Cuda showed his stripes. Out of nowhere it felt, because the only heat in that deadly moment was between the two warm bodies, one about to end the other, the yeti and Sharpen the man, suddenly something even more terrible, without scent, without heat, without breath itself, sifted between them. The only warning Sharpen or the yeti had was that shifting of the air itself, that warping of the plane of life and light that men and beasts existed upon. For, before either of their brains could rationalize or justify what they were seeing, the wolf who was flesh and blood was suddenly a ghost, a pure wolf spirit between them, and Cuda had decided to pounce as vengeance incarnate. Twisting in a space that no lupine creature could ever fit or wedge themselves, the ghost wolf suddenly swifted up through the air, more of a wind, and then was suddenly a big head, glowing eyes and fangs that sank into the yeti’s neck. And the translucent gray wolf who could have just been a mere shadow, it held on and held on, impossible to dislodge as the yeti staggered back, then lost its footing and fell.
A wolf shouldn’t have been a real challenge to an alpha yeti, so Sharpen was still at the edge of his nerves, ready for Cuda to fail in his attempt to rescue him. And then Sharpen knew he would have to make the terrible decision to leave his wolf friend to whatever his fate might be and save his own life. But the real Cuda, his flesh and blood self that projected this strange wolf shadow ever since Sharpen first found him in the Western Plaguelands, that crazed wolf was on the other side, savaging the back of the beast’s neck. Both of them, wolf and his shadow, were working like a pack of two to finish off the one who had attacked their master.
Sharpen had guessed Cuda could do that, but this was the first time he was actually seeing it, and able to finally believe in it.
Now, Sharpen was home. One flesh and blood wolf wandered into the living room to sniff his hand and check on him. The other, the ghost wolf, was relaxing before the fire, back to the flames and ethereal eyes watching Sharpen in this eternal way. As if Cuda’s ghost shadow was not watching Sharpen the man, but his spirit.
Sharpen let out another anxious breath and scratched his mane of wild green hair.
He’d tried asking a shaman about it once, but they didn’t believe him, that such a thing was possible. To have befriended the wolf as well as his undead shadow. Sharpen admitted that he didn’t fully understand the Plague or the Scourge and what they did to raise the dead in an unholy way. A part of him was afraid to ask too many questions and risk some paladin of the Silver Hand informing him that they needed to exorcise his wolf.
Cuda just seemed… fine the way he was. Eerie, but fine. After a time, the spirit would fade and rejoin its body. But for now, Cuda seemed to want to be a pack to watch over his master.
“You wanted to fix that, didn’t you? You wanted to end that yeti for your own reasons.”
Because Sharpen was sure as hell too chicken to go and take that bloodthirsty monster out by himself with a knife and a bow that wasn’t even one of his best.
He spoke to Cuda again, blinking rapidly in disblief. “But there is no way we could have done that alone, not normally. You just charged in, you totally barged in there without another thought, Cuda. You didn’t see that?”
Cuda couldn’t really understand him, like any pet. Sharpen knew he was just venting his frustrations. But it would surely be the last time he was going hiking without something good enough to protect man and beast from, yes, an actual monster that wasn’t supposed to be along a simple hiking trail.
Cuda and his shadow both looked at Sharpen in that unraveling way for a long time.
Sharpen felt himself starting to sweat. He was an animal trainer but this was starting to ruin his own instincts about what to do with beasts in intense situations like this one. Cuda was a deeply unsettled animal and who knew what was simmering inside of his lupine mind now.
“Alright! Who wants din-din!”
Both wolves leapt up at once and started wagging their tails like mad, whining that they would love an early dinner.
Sharpen, eyes wide at how that actually worked, got up slowly, then went to the kitchen.
Sharpen put his hand on the bag of high-protein kibble he used for his canine pets, then hefted it up onto the kitchen counter, his biceps more than able to take the strain. These were high quality pellets, not fresh meat, but Cuda seemed not to mind it. Cuda didn’t seem to mind a lot of compromises a normal wolf would never put up with in a million years. Live: Jensen Huang Keynotes NVIDIA’s 2018 GPU Technology Conference
9:37 – Jensen says there are 400 games made every year, it’s one of the largest industries in the world. They use ray tracing to render entire game in advance. As a result you get wonderful shadows and details and whole world comes to life. The film industry uses this in 500 movies each year – every frame is rendered multiple times. Imagine if one CPU takes hours for a frame just how long this would take. Additionally there are 12M designers and 150,000 architects, many of whom aren’t making square buildings but round ones.
Now there are 1 billion images rendered every year, and that could go up 10x as more real-time rendering is reduced by Quadro to one-fifth the cost, one-seventh the space, one-17th the power
Virtually everyone is adopting RTX Technology – he presents a slide with three dozen key partners, gaming, design, film, architecture. This technology is the single most important advance in computer graphics in 15 years.
9:32 – Quadro GV100 is the world’s first workstation GPU based on Volta architecture. It also has a new interconnect called NVLink 2 that extends the programming and memory model out of our GPU to a second one. They essentially function as one GPU. These two combined have 10,000 CUDA cores, 236 teraflops of Tensor Cores, all used to revolutionize modern computer graphics, with 64GB of memory
9:30 – Steve Parker, an NVIDIA ray-tracing expert, talks through how ray tracing is able to show light striking a  surface, bouncing off the surfacing, and then striking additional surfaces. Recreating this follows billions of rays.
Doing so, Jensen says, takes supercomputers than can calculate these rays. The more reflections, the more refractions, the harder it is. Everything that’s being seen visually is in real time.
This complete demo is running on just one DGX Station – not a supercomputer running one frame in hours, but one DGX-Station that costs $68K, with four Voltas, doing this in real time.
So, Jensen announced NVIDIA RTX technology that runs on a Quadro GV100 processor. It’s a big deal, he says, because for now we can bring real-time ray tracing to the market. The technology has been encapsulated into multiple layers. You’re also seeing deep learning in action, without that we couldn’t trace all the rays. It predicts rays.
9:24 – Then, Jensen shows a scene that looks like it was from the Last Jedi with chatting storm troopers, but Jensen said it was actually rendered in real time with ray tracing.
9:21 – Jensen moves right into fourth gear. He’s talking about graphics being the driving force of GPUs.
Computer scientists have been recreating photo-realistic images for decades, he notes. Ray tracing follows every photon as it bounces through a scene, based on the materials that it strikes. This is how the film industry does it, it requires thousands of CPUs. One CPU would take hours to compute one frame and there’s hundreds of thousands of frames in movie. For four decades we’ve been trying to close the gap to create a full movie.
He says we use all kinds of different tricks to improve visuals – like ambient occlusion, light baking – so long as things don’t move very much, the light conditions are well produced. Global illumination – where light moves from ever possible source and bounces accurately — helps bring a scene to life with extra-sharp detail.
But ray tracing is the most beautiful way of doing it. This is tough, especially with curved transparent surfaces like a drinking cup (regardless of what you’re drinking).
Some objects absorb light and then release some, things like jade or gummy bears, or car paint, or our skin – light goes through, picks up shades and then re-emits.
9:14 – And with that, Jensen takes the stage. He breaks out a new leather jacket ever year and he looks in this new one a bit like a superhero.
GTC is the GPU developers conference, which we do for all of you, whose work is impossible without a supercharged computer, he says.
We’re going to talk about amazing graphics, amazing science, amazing AI and amazing robots. So let’s get going, he says.
9:11 – And now an updated version of our I AM AI video swells up on the screen.
It depicts how AI can support humans in a broad field of endeavors, with a voice over that professes to be AI. And it comes with a sound track itself that’s composed by AI and played by a true-life orchestra.
“I am a protector,” says the narrator. And there’s a scene of sweeping work by the NASA FDL/Seti Institute’s project to better predict comets that might have Earth’s number. Also, some amazing work by Wildbook, which is able to identify individual members of a species that might otherwise look the same – like the zebras here. It has lots of use for tracking and helping to sustain the diversity of species.
“I am a healer,” is next. It shows how Image biopsy uses deep learning to quickly analyze the shape of the knee, with some snazzy color-coded keys for measurements.
“I am a guardian,” and then “I am a helper” which has some cool scenes. There’s an IAmRobotics autonomously navigating through warehouses, identifying objects and plucking them off shelves – at a rate of 200 picks an hour. That’s faster than a water pick. And back on the keyboard is jazz pianist Jason Barnes, who lost an arm in a work accident, is shown using Georgia Tech’s prosthetic tech that detects individual finger movement. And there’s a full autonomous selfie Skydio drone with 13 onboard cameras tracking a jogger.
It’s all brought to us, the video says, by NVIDIA and brilliant minds everywhere.
9:08 – A list of sponsors, topped by IBM and Facebook, comes up. The soundtrack pumps up. You could just about bop your head to it. The NVIDIA logo comes up again, and then the sponsors, following by the ever-connecting synapses of the visualized neural network.
9:05 – Okay, the music is beginning to shift. The blasphemously named Voice of God comes up and tells everyone in the nicest possible way to sit up and behave.  The event is about to begin.
9:01 – NVIDIA starts planning for GTC virtually before the previous one wraps up. It’s an all-on challenge that Jensen leads. A ton of the work falls on the Creative department who have created a mini-Netflix full of videos for the show. The first one, the opening one, is always a highlight of the show and helps set the tone for the next couple hours. I can tell you in full confidence that this year’s is terrific.
8:56 – The stage itself is pretty cool. It’s broad, running about two-thirds the length of the wall, with the screen a deep, inky black. It’s flanked by large NVIDIA-green airplane-wing like triangles that are interconnected. Triangles, of course, are the building block of computer graphics and, by the time, they’re the theme of our iconic new headquarters building in Santa Clara, comprised of two five-acre-sized triangular floorplates, covered with an undulating roof of interlocking triangles, with the occasional triangular skylight peeking through.
8:55 – More time than you’d think goes into picking out the walk-in track for GTC, which is reliably warm, soulful and upbeat.
Among the tunes we’re hearing, there’s “Crazy,” by the Lost Frequencies and “Glorious,” by Macklemore. Also we’ll wrap up with a couple tracks from The Greatest Showman soundtrack — “This is Me” and the eponymous  “The Greatest Showman.”
There are some fabulous graphics coming up against the deep black screen. They’re green synapses, like those in the brain, that connect to other points of light. They suggest the workings of a neural network, which underpins how deep learning works, with connections being made that might otherwise not be apparent, ultimately sorting out data in an image that enables the network to recognize an apple from an appliance, a banana from a bandana, a carrot from a carob. Well, you get the point.
8:50 – Folks are beginning to come into the hall at the Convention Center. There’s a rub. It seats 4,000 or so, but there are twice as many attendees. Good thing there are spillover rooms. The biggest fans among GTC attendees got in line early. First guy showed up at 6:45. By 8:30, there was a line that ran the full length of the center and ultimately out the door, onto the sidewalk.
You may have a more comfortable seat watching the webcast, which will have tens of thousands tuning in.
8:40 – Well, we’re back at GTC, 10 months after last year’s. But, yikes, a lot’s changed, with huge progress in AI, which is changing just about every service that’s delivered. The way just about any company with data operates.
The first one of these was held down the street here in San Jose at the Fairmont Hotel, where we had about 800 attendees. This year there are 8,500. That’ growth of about 30 percent a year each year. And that’s just in Silicon Valley, our seven GTCs around the world last year drew in a total of 22,000 – from Beijing and Tokyo to Tel Aviv and Washington, DC.
Monday 11 am – Less than 24 hours until NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang delivers the keynote at our ninth annual GPU Technology Conference in Silicon Valley, and the action’s already begun.
The crowd more more than 8,000 surging into the McEnery Convention Center — which includes researchers, press, technologists, analysts and partners from all over the globe — is our largest yet.
The 600+ talks on the docket may be the best testament to the spread of GPUs into every aspect of human endeavor.
Attendees are already crowding into conference rooms to hear about how GPUs can be used to model the formation of galaxies, generate dazzling special effects for blockbuster movies, and even analyze scans of the human heart.
Their mood: happy. At least, that’s what the Emotions Demo, set up on the convention’s main concourse, tells us. The demo uses deep learning to instantly read the facial expressions of people nearby in real time – whether they’re happy, neutral, afraid, or disgusted.
Also on the show floor: a pop up store selling NVIDIA Gear. The best sellers? The NVIDIA “I Am AI” t-shirt, and our much sought after NVIDIA Ruler, according the store’s staff.
We’ll be buttonholing speakers from a broad cross-section of these talks and interviewing them for AI Podcast, where we’re recording in a sleek glass booth positioned on the show floor.

This unique car has a Colombo designed engine was derived from the 250 3-liter and features a tubular framed chassis that was developed by Giotto Bizzarrini. Production lasted in Milan from 1962 until 1967 with only a handful of Spyders built.

Signed by Carroll Shelby himself, this example is one of 562, first year, 1965 Shelby GT350 Fastbacks and is serial #47 of the legendary first 100 built. #2058 1967 Chevrolet Corvette 427/435 Roadster
This show-stopping NCRS 97-point, award-winning 1967 Chevrolet Corvette 427/435 Roadster is the first out of five red on red 435 roadsters. With a K66 transistor ignition, J50 power break and A01 tinted glass, this vehicle was restored by Nabors Brothers of Houston, Texas. Also a 99-point Bloomington Gold award winner, it has traveled only 31,000 miles from new and is unquestionably one of the finest examples of the C2 Corvette Stingray available anywhere.
#2428 1970 Plymouth Barracuda “Fast & Furious” Cudanator Coupe
Featured in countless magazines, video games and movies like Fast & Furious 6 and 7, this 1970 ‘Cuda AAR was built by David Salvaggio of SpeedKore. With power derived from an Arruzza hand-built, 700 horsepower, naturally aspirated 540 cubic inch (8.8 liter) aluminum Hemi, mated to a Tremec six-speed manual with carbon fiber pistol grip shifter and fully fabricated suspension including coil-over shocks, this vicious beast is known as the most menacing ‘Cuda in existence. Dell Alienware M14x Gaming Laptop Review
Welcome to a Biomedical Battery specialist of the DELL Laptop Battery
There's something about the allure of a gaming notebook. Even mainstream users, not necessarily hellbent on frame rates and decked-out designs, can relate to a powerful notebook with striking good looks. It's no wonder that products like Asus' G73 series of notebooks and Alienware's M series, have been some of the most viewed pages of our mobile computing section here at HotHardware.com. Similarly, Dell's recent announcement that they were expanding the Alienware M series line, to flesh out 14-inch and 18-inch versions, was met with a fair bit of buzz as well. The 14" model especially caught our eye, striking a nice size and weight compromise between the soon to arrive 18" behemoth and the rather svelte M11x we looked at not long ago.
The Alienware M14x with battery such as DELL PT6V8 Battery, DELL KR-08P6X6 Battery, DELL T7YJR Battery, DELL 312-0984 Battery, DELL DKK25 Battery, DELL Alienware M11X R1 Battery, DELL Alienware M11X Battery, DELL Alienware M14X R1 Battery, DELL Alienware M14X Battery, DELL Alienware P06T Battery, DELL Alienware M11X R3 Battery, DELL 8P6X6 Battery is a smaller-sized full-featured notebook and gaming machine that has a surprisingly tall order to fill. With its quad-core Intel processor and 144 CUDA-core NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M GPU, the M14x packs a bunch of horsepower in a relatively small footprint., which means thermal and battery capacity challenges of course as well. We fired up our usual run of BatteryEater Pro to stress test the system under a graphics and CPU workload but also added a much lower-powered test condition as well.
At the risk of looking like we're favoring the M14x here with a special test setup, we decided to give you an additional datapoint to consider in terms of battery life performance. First, if you look at the results from our lower uptime recorded in the BatteryEater stress test, you'll note that the M14x falls about mid-pack with these similarly configured machines -- about in line with the midrange machines and slightly ahead of the high-end configured systems (though MainGear's larger, heavier battery configuration allowed it to excel). Then, looking at the Reader and Web browsing test, where we run a script that scrolls through a text document while simultaneously hitting a web page in the background and refreshing every three minutes, you'll see that the variance is dramatic. Alienware claims the 8-cell battery on board the M14x will last up to 6 hrs and that's right about what we saw under this non-graphics intensive test condition.
Alienware designed the M14x with certain compromises that had to be accommodated. Obviously, this smaller form-factor of gaming notebook, in order to meet its thermal constraints, had to be configured with more midrange components. Performance-wise, what the system put forth was exactly what we expected.
The M14x handily powered past mainstream notebooks with solid multimedia-targeted hardware on board with discrete GPUs even. Under gaming conditions, it surged past these competitive platforms even more so. Under heavy-duty gaming conditions, however, and versus full-sized desktop replacement gaming notebooks, the M14x doesn't quite have the chops to keep up with the big boys, though this was to be expected. After all, this is a 14-inch, 6.5lb machine and very portable as a result. It's not a road warrior solution for business travelers, but then again, it's not going break your back like some of the other boat anchor machines we tested it against. On the downside, we weren't fond of the rather audible fan whine emitted from the M14x while gaming, but we've heard similar acoustic challenges in just about any machine with a discrete GPU in this size and weight class. That's no excuse but at this point, it's sort of comes with the territory. The other aspect to consider here is price. Though you can find similarly configured notebooks at lower prices, what we found was you'd have to make compromises with a lower resolution display, lower grade build quality and other lower grade component as well, like smaller batteries etc. All told the M14x, though definitely designed for the high-end market, actually offers a reasonable return on investment when you consider the total package.
If you're the type that doesn't want to compromise much on gaming performance and style but need a notebook in a reasonably portable size and weight, the Dell Alienware M14x is for you. And we liked it so much we're giving it an Editor's Choice.
