#crime lord Kai au

I have an idea

An au where Kai never shows up to the chens noodle house meeting cuz he was mad at what Lloyd said and instead ends up going deeper into ninjagos crime scene.

* Kai gets pissed at Lloyd callling him selfish and ends up getting really drunk and misses the meeting with Lloyd jay and Cole

* On his way back he accidentally falls into one of the canals and almost drowns. He manages to get out but a passer by recognizes him and saw him fall in but didn’t see him come back up

* Kai gets back to where ever he’s staying and promptly passes out for like three days

* The person that saw him fall in calls the cops and they assume Kai drowned and begin searching for his body

* Lloyd and the others at this point are already at chen’s island.

* Nya gets a call from the police about Kai and she like them assumes he drowned.

* She begins looking for Lloyd and the others to tell them that Kai’s gone then gets wrapped up in all the Chen stuff

* Kai wakes up to find that he’s on the news for being dead

* He decides to take advantage of this and decides to just go by shogun now

* He also decides to “pretend” to be female cuz he’s to recognizable no ther reason totalyyyy (yes this is a transfem Kai au cuz I do what I want)

* Meanwhile with the ninja when they catch up with Nya they learn that Kai’s dead and are very upset about it

* Chen also fails in his plans because he doesn’t have all the elements and when he try’s to use the spell the staff explodes killing him & clouce

* Skylor is arrested and put into kryptarium for working with her dad (this is very important I promise)

* Lloyd feels really bad about Kai because the last time they spoke he said really mean stuff and he wonders if Kai fell in somehow related to that.

* Meanwhile Kai begins making connections in the crime sphere in ninjago. She wears a disguise (a mask, dress large jacket and other clothing to hide her identity) and grows a reputation for herself

* She eventually starts to notice how shitty life is for lower class citizens of ninjago city and how the criminals and the upper class take advantage of that.

* She starts helping these people (mainly orphans) and creates a safe haven for them where all of them can live safely under her protection.

* She amasses a following for the people she helped + some criminals who have kinda changed their ways and they become a pretty big gang in ninjago city (I don’t have a name for this yet)

* With the ninja morro happens but garmadon takes the place of Kai in it cuz he never got banished (just imagine morro got let out by clouse on accident cuz he still attempted to banish garm but failed) and everything is basically the same up until they confront ronin

* Back with Kai a few months before Lloyd gets possessed she ran into a girl on the street named Natalie. Natalie claims to be an orphan and Kai does what she normally does when she finds a poor starving orphan on the street, she scoops her up and brings her back to her shelter (I don’t have a name for this yet either)

* Turns out Natalie is actually ronins daughter. She used to live with her parents in Styx (ronin was still doing ronin stuff so he was constantly gone all the time and she mainly lived with her mom) until one day ronin refused to pay soul archer his debt and souls archer went after his family. Nat’s mom ends up sacrificing her self to protect nat and nat runs away after. She ends up in ninjago city all alone.

* Kai after learning this decides to go and have a chat with ronin (because no one hurts her kids the people under her protection) and she runs into the ninja + garm when she goes to confront ronin (it’s when the ninja try and steal the scroll much to garms dismay because he’s still trying to be good)

* She panics but is slightly relieved when non of the ninja recognizes her (definitely helps that she’s wearing a mask and feminine clothes) ronin does tho due to his connections and questions her on why she’s here

* She doesn’t speak and just attacks him (she’s too worried the ninja will recognize her voice and she thinks that they won’t agree with what she’s doing and will be mad at her)

* So chaos ensues and Kai ends up leaving once she realizes Lloyd’s been possessed by a ghost and decides to dip to not interfere with the ninja’s mission anymore

* The season goes on as planned but the ninja now know who “shogun” is thanks to ronin. Lloyds a bit suspicious because of Kai’s red shogun name but guesses that maybe she was inspired by Kai or it’s just a coincidence.

* When Kai gets back she learns that some of her group members got arrested while trying to stop a fight between two other groups and decides to brake them out of kryptarium

* Cue skylors entrance

* Skylor manages to try and escape in the chaos of Kai’s brake in and almost escapes but is cornered by some guards

* Kai who’s crawling through the vents to get out while her group members have already escaped stops when she sees skylor getting cornered. Cue the love at first sight thing and she decides to help Skylor escape cuz she’s so pretty

* Skylor accepts Kai’s help and they escape and Kai brings her to her shelter

* Skylor has had a lot of time to reflect on her self during her imprisonment and is now glad her dad died cuz she really hated being evil

* Kai and Skylor grow closer together as Skylor joins the group and eventually Kai confesses her true identity cuz she trusts Skylor

* Skylor is confused at first because the ninja put her in prison and evreything but is ok with it because of how different Kai is

* Skylor is transfem in this au too! She she helps Kai realize that she’s not pretending to be a girl and helps her except herself

* They eventually form a romantic bond and skylor takes up a new persona to work under (I don’t have a name for it yet) to match Kai’s shogun persona

That’s all I have for now but this was all rattling around in my brain and I had to write it down

Other important stuffs

* Kai’s more morally grey in this au

* She kinda becomes similar to Jason Todd in the way she acts with her shogun persona

* She basically unofficially adopts all the orphan kids she lets stay in her shelter they all call her big sis sho

* In her group she has her close lieutenants (all ocs that I’m still thinking about names for) including skylor as her right hand woman

* She is a wanted criminal because she has broken some laws

* She doesn’t really use her powers or spinjitzu unless it’s really dire circumstances cuz it could be trailed back to her life as a ninja

* She’s kinda scared of seeing her the ninja again because she feels like she’s betrayed everything they stand for by being morally grey and doing borderline bad things

Have you watched the Hunchback of Notre Dame? I was thinking Kai would make a great judge Claude Frollo because of similar their wickedness is. And the reader can be Esmerelda. If you ever read the book or watch the movies, you know what I’m talking about.

I know exactly what you are talking about and I am legitimately salivating over it… 🤤

I can just imagine the pious and God-fearing Judge Kai being overcome with all these new and sinful desires after seeing the Reader dance so provocatively in the Festival of Fools. He spends days afterwards trying to reign in these unwanted feelings before finally caving in and coming to the conclusion that she must somehow be a gift to him from God, that she is his reward for all of the good and noble work he’s done throughout his young life. He chooses that moment to send out guards to find her and bring her to him alive, unscathed and unspoiled.

And when she’s finally dragged before him, wearing nothing more than a thin white slip as a nightgown and shackles on her wrists, he can’t help but think that this is how she should always appear before him.

He orders all the guards to leave them and when she angrily demands to know what crime she has committed to be paraded before him like this, he simply smiles and responds that she hasn’t been brought before him to receive punishment, but to be rewarded and allowed to fulfill her life’s true purpose.

…

“Re-Reward? Purpose? What in Heaven’s name are you speaking of?” You asked as a shiver of fear and disgust ran up and down your spine. You could see the way his golden eyes traced over the curves of your nearly exposed body and you once again berated yourself for not having worn something with more coverage.

But it was his words that followed next that truly froze your blood and crippled you with terror…

“I have received a divine epiphany from the Lord, and he has shown me that you, my Dear, are to be my prize.” Kai spoke, his voice clear and unwavering, his molten eyes never breaking contact with your own. “You shall be mine. My wife to warm my bed, and mother to raise our children. You will be well taken care of and I shall provide you with everything you might ever desire or need, I will go above and beyond to preform my husbandly duties and all you need give me in return is your unwavering devotion and love.”

P. S.- Anon, whoever you are, you may have just sparked the inspiration for my next AU fic… I hope your proud of yourself. 😑

Some more stuff abt the ninja in the crime au!

none of them know about their elemental abilities and just assume that they're good with things that pertain to that element

garmadon took over the realm because wu disappeared and never got the chance to gather the ninja together, so the realm is ruled by lord garmadon and bad things just keep on happening, the next serpentine war, the great devour gets released again ect ect

and a few years pass by and garmadons reign still isn't letting up and the world continues to get more and more broken and beaten down. So they do what they have to to survive it. Then they do some more things they just felt like doing afterwards

Jay got started in crime by building and selling weapons to people made out of scraps from the junkyard, then he started building cars and became a pretty good get away driver. Eventually he got a bit too gung ho about winning races and hacked too close to the sun, bringing down a few gangs worth of anger on himself. Fleeing the junkyard to protect his parents, he went to ninjago city to start up new, hearing about an artifact retrieval job that seems promising. He's strong in tech and hacking and weak at stealing and fighting. He thinks his talent with tech and hacking is just from practice, although sometimes his experiments fry themselves and he just can't work out why that is yet.

Cole ran away from the Marty Oppenheimer school and got himself indebted with the chen crime family, and worked as a bodyguard for them to pay off his debt and got stuck in a magical contract with them that if he leaves them they'll go after his family, so he goes by a fake name (Rocky Dangerbuff) for this reason. He's been able to gather alot of info on the family by being their bodyguard for several years. But he's loyal to a fault, and wouldn't leave them without good enough reason. Eventually, it got to the point that they were asking him to do things he wasn't comfortable with (murder) and he escaped with the leaders daughter (who also didn't want to do a murder), and now he's on the run from them in ninjago city. He's strong at fighting and at grifting, weak at tech and hacking. When he was hiding out underground, he was really good at finding caves to hide in. Like unusually good at it. And freehand mountain climbing has always come very easy to him.

Zane is searching for his father, having half of his memories activated, so he knows about his father and that he is a nindroid, but not what the nin part stands for or that his father died. He has been traveling around all of ninjago searching for any info on his father, not caring who he hurts along the way in his search, and through that he's acquired alot of top secret information about the various groups, and has disturbed one such group (Borg industries) who have been persistently after him for his exstensive knowledge. Ninjago city is the last place they would search for him after he lead them in a trail far away from there, so he's hiding out right under their nose when he hears about a job to get an artifact that might help him find the next clue to his father. He's strong at planning and at info gathering, weak at grifting and fighting (hasn't activated his ninja programming yet). He thinks his comfortability with the cold has to do with him being a nindroid. Although he's never met another droid who can withstand negative 30 degree temperatures, come to think of it he's never met another droid like him at all.

Kai started grifting people a bit after his parents blacksmithing shop started to lose business, and he started really swindling people coming into town after garmadon took over to get enough money to get by. He kept from nya where he was getting most of their money from, and when she found out she wanted in on it too, so they became a thieving duo with a routine where he grifts and distracts while nya sneaks around and steals stuff. They get chased out of their hometown when they get caught, and are hiding out in ninjago city looking for work for a bit. They get contacted for a job to steal an artifact, not their usual gig but at this point they'll take anything they can get. He's strong at grifting and at fighting, and weak at planning and info gathering. He has an affinity with fire and will usually set fires for distractions, which annoys nya to no end. It's not his fault fires are so easy to set.

Nya has been stealing for a good portion of her life, after their parents died she had to get good at it so they could survive. They couldn't live off the scraps of metal kai insisted were weapons forever. She also got good at building and hacking things while kai was off grifting, someone had to keep the shop running well enough. Until garmadon took over and their shop went under completely. Then they honed in their thieving skills. Then they got too good and she got too ambitious and got them caught. So they broke out of jail and ran as far as they could to ninjago city, where the local enforcement would never be able to reach them, where they heard about an artifact retrieval job. She's strong at stealing and at tech, weak at grifting and at teamwork. Nya's always had more of a knack with tech and metal than anything else, so she honed in on that skill. She's never noticed how water reacts to her presence, how it attaches itself to her emotions, how the most she feels at peace is when she's by the endless ocean, not when she's working tirelessly at her workbench.

Also lloyd, who doesn't know about the green ninja prophecy or wu or the other ninja, he works as garmadons right hand in this new world, having earned the title through hard work and is still trying to work hard to earn his fathers love. He lives as the dark prince of this world, having whatever he wishes, except his freedom, so he got really good at sneaking around to get that too. He'll do whatever garmadon asks of him, no matter what. He hears rumors about a group of kids that's going against garmadons enforcers and decides to take them in himself, that'll really show those other generals who keep saying he only got this position because garmadons his dad. He is strong in stealing and stealth, weak at tech and grifting. And if he notices the way that his fathers golden weapons glow his presence he keeps that to himself, its probably nothing to be worried about. Probably.

And ronin, he's been doing what he has been doing (stealing, grifting, heisting, hacking, whatever will pay off his debts the fastest) for a long time. Almost too long at this point. He's too worked hard to made a name for himself in ninjago city to let go of that now. He gets contacted to steal an artifact for alot of money, and he can't just turn down an easy job like that. He's got a reputation to think of. Little does he know that it's not going to be easy and that there's a ragtag bunch of kids also after the same artifact. And he's not planning on mentoring the next generation or whatever. He just wants his rep to stay solid and the payout from from the job, that's it. He's very sure that this one job won't impact his life in any meaningful way. But these kids need someone to keep them out of trouble, and when he keeps catching them after his artifact, he decides that really it'll be good for himself to give them some pointers that's all. He is strong at anything crime related really, but specificlly stealing and planning, and weak at teamwork and at not getting attached to these kids who keep finding him.

 Sokka went on the mission with Hahn (it did not go well) Imprisoned on Zhao’s war ship, Sokka and Zuko have to work together to survive. They are not very enthusiastic about this prospect.

Ray and maya get kidnapped——>Kai and nya get sent to an orphanage—-> nya gets adopted by her new moms, Kai gets left behind——-> orphanage gets sick of Kai being a bad kid and ship him off to darklys——>Kai builds a reputation for being a jerk at darklys—->lloyd is abandoned at darklys by misako—-> Kai takes Lloyd under his wing—-> few years later kai leaves darklys and starts wandering ninjago doing small crimes—-> wu goes to find kai like in the pilots but finds nya instead because she was visiting the forge with her moms——> wu cryptically asks where Kai is and about how he needs to find him(without using Kai’s name) then leaves——>Nya is confused but ignores him and goes back to doing what ever she was doing——> the skeletons arrive and start looking for the map—->Nya tells her moms to stay inside and takes an old sword and attempts to fight the skeletons but wu intervenes when she starts loosing——> the skeletons book it and attempt to take Nya but her moms push her out of the way and get captured instead——->wu offers to train her—->pilots proceed as normal but Nya takes Kai’s place—->meanwhile kai hears roomers about how a group of ninjas fought against lord garmadon and hears about a girl with short black hair that’s name is Nya——>he starts looking for her

That’s what I have so far might add more later but I really need to rewatch season one before I do that so I can be consistent with cannon stuff.

I wanted a Harumi gets a happy life AU and by gods, I am doing it.

Part of the Ninjago Rewrite AU I'm doing which a footnote ver of early season 1-2 (and a bit of 3 info) can be read ->here<-

THE GIST OF THE AU (from the Bizarro's side of things)

SEASON 2 - 7 Lord Garmadon revived the Bizarros when he got to the Dark Island and turned them into Oni knockoffs.

They aren't 100% Oni, since Garmadon is also part dragon. The white in their hair is an indicator and also the fact that they aren't completely black/scaley.

The Bizarros run away not wanting to face the Ninja again and eventually get back to Ninjago stowing away in the Bounty when the Ninja come to recover their ship.

They live here and there trying to find their own identities. Bizarro Cole -> Quake Trebble Bizarro Kai -> Burn Jonhson Bizarro Jay -> Shock Runner Bizarro Zane -> Frost(bite) Brutus

They're also stuck in their Seaosn 2 Gis, but they can wear normal clothes.

The Great Devourer happens and find out the Emperor and Empress not giving a single wink about Ninjago's people.

The Bizarros then find out that they adopted Harumi (definitely to look good to the public) and kidnap her for ransom.

The Emperor and Empress go 'frick it' and announce Harumi died of sickness and they adopt another kid.

The Bizrarros are of course pissed, but now they got a kid to raise.

They catch how traumatized Harumi is. So they go to the only other Oni they know in Ninjago, Mystake.

Mystake lets them raise Harumi safely in her tea shop, and the Bizarros help in the shop/take odd jobs to support Harumi.

Harumi actually gets therapy, and over time sees the evil Oni clones as her dads.

To match them, she dyes her hair black, save a strand of her white hair to further look like her Oni family.

She's taught to do crime and other cool stuff. She leads the Bizarros instead of SOG cause her main goal is to take down the Emperor and Empress of Ninjago. No reviving Garmadon.

Harumi is Ninjago City's Robin Hood. Steal from the throne, feed the poor.

Her weapons are the chopsticks in her hair, they have thin blades that fold in when she's not using them. Think like old fashion barber razors, but thinner.

The other adopted kid of the throne is the new leader of SOG and they do it cause they know they can take over if they so please.

Season 8 Harumi tries to convince Lloyd to not work for the throne (as SOG starts happening) and soon, she and the Bizzaros have to help Lloyd and Nya hide as Emperor Garmadon is resurrected.

Season 9 Harumi learns the events of The Great Devourer from Lloyd's perspective and soon helping him fight against SOG.

She almost dies when the building she's stuck on collapses, but the Bizarros are there to save her.

She lives, she's happy.

She still does crime.

A little something about the end of the world itself.

Toys and violence against them was always a very serious topic in Kai – so serious that Shingen Takeda himself would be the judge of each such case within the perimeter of his castle. No mistakes were allowed, after all, and who’d be better suited for the job than the lord of the entire domain? Truly, there were few crimes committed by the little ones as hideous as toy murder and kidnapping, screams of wooden horses and rag dolls haunting the now adult children of the past. It had to be cut short.

It was the earliest morning – meaning noon, for everybody had to be well rested for a trial to be held – as it is when the most important meetings take place, the audience hall having been turned into the court for a day. His back straight, Shingen sat in his place, towering above all other with sheer height (or perhaps it only seemed so, even Mai sitting by his side appearing to be unreasonably tall to the little ones as well?). Serious as ever, he nodded, thus inviting one of the sides in question to present their version of the events. “He stole my pony!” his youngest son exclaimed, frowning deeply. “I –” “I didn’t do this, it was Kiku!” his older brother chimed in, the girl – Kiku, the middle siblings and the only sister of the two – readying herself to speak as well. “I understand that you feel wronged, Katsu, but please, let him finish first. We will listen carefully to what all of you have to say,” Mai interrupted just in time, the reassuring smile on her face seemingly warding off yet another argument regarding the wooden pony. Of all toys Shingen crafted in his free time, this one seemed to have been the most treasured, Mai having painted it beautifully – much to her dismay, the trio seemingly never ceasing to fight over it, no matter how many additional ponies were made.

“I put the pony on the shelf,” the boy picked up where he left. “I went out of the room to play in the garden. We made mud soup with Kiku and wanted to invite Mrs Hooves to dinner, but when I went for her, she wasn’t there. Katsu stole it! I saw him in the corridor!” Shingen sent Mai a quick glance. They nodded in unison. “Katsu, can you tell us what you were doing then?” Shingen asked. “I was going to my room and saw the door open! It wasn’t me! It was Kiku!” The girl only shook her head, her hands curling into fists. Mai put a hand on Shingen’s shoulder – it would be a long noon, they both knew.

Quarters passed, few breaks being instituted throughout the trial to let all the sides cool down,  Mori – the youngest – nearly breaking into a cry. The sun being significantly lower on the horizon than when they began, all siblings still being willing to continue, they took another break, this time to snack on something before the talks remained, some progress having been made. Of all things certain in the world, one was truly undeniable, neither Katsu nor Mori being in the room when Mrs Hooves disappeared. Was it misplaced? Thinking of asking the maids for help, the couple spoke in hushed whispers, readying themselves for the more and more real possibility of the toy being forever lost somewhere in the gardens – or perhaps even beyond.

A pull on his sleeve. Shingen turned his gaze towards it, his eyes meeting equally grey ones, his daughter looking up at him. “Kiku? What is it?” he asked. “Papa, I know what happened to Mrs Hooves,” she whispered, toying with her fingers. Her chin began to tremble. “Katsu and Mori started arguing. I was scared they will be mad. But. But. But –” “Slowly, sweetheart, slowly,” Mai said soothingly, forcing last few bits of her energy into the words. “A deep breath, count to three, like this…” The girl mimicking her mother, another disaster was avoided, the tears being still behind her eyelids – although still not drying up. “I dropped Mrs Hooves and her head fell off. I tried to fix her. But. But. But Katsu came, and started arguing,” she blurted out on a single breath. Shingen nodded in understanding and ruffled her hair. “It’s very brave of you to admit to this. Now, what do we say?” “I’m sorry, papa, I’m sorry, mama.”

The girl sniffled, Mai extending her arms to pull Kiku into her lap, soon stroking the girl’s back. “It’s okay now, it’s okay. We only need to tell the boys now,” she hummed, Shingen already gesturing for the boys to come closer. Of course. Only few more ends of the world to avoid before the end of the day.

Zutara thoughts: they are so bonnie and clyde like but Katara is more in the lead while zuko happily follows her. Over time Zuko trusts her input more than even the avatars.

The first thing I thought when I read “Bonnie and Clyde Zutara” was “that fits their dynamic as the Blue Spirit and the Painted Lady”. And it does!! I’ve always loved their dual identities and, especially, their potential. Like. Can you imagine?

After Zuko joins the Gaang during the Western Air Temple, he buys another Blue Spirit mask and keeps it hidden from the others. He goes out at night to fight crime (messing with Fire Nation ships, fortresses, camps, etc.) and eventually stumbles upon the Painted Lady. They meet and, at first, they don’t know they’re Zuko and Katara, but they fight alongside each other. I think in this AU, they could reveal their secret identities right before The Southern Raiders. Which, I think, would hurt Katara more and make her even more mad at him. During TSR, she tells him it’s the Painted Lady’s last mission with the Blue Spirit. And that is true. Until after the Final Agni Kai and the end of the War.

BUT THEN! Some years later, Zuko is Fire Lord (and single again) and Katara is Ambassador for the Southern Water Tribe (and single again). By day, they navigate the world of politics fair and square, but when the world of politics isn’t fair and square, they don the Blue Spirit’s and the Painted Lady’s outfits and fight crime at night, terrorizing whoever is still loyal to Ozai or unfair to the people. And, of course, along the way, they find feelings they’d buried during those days before Sozin’s Comet.

I just love that for them :)

Drabble #76

Sometimes, you feel very gay and european and have to pour those feelings into a masterpiece of a drabble about two lesbian friends with benefits dancing in a Sicilian backyard at midnight with Efendi's Mata Hari as soundtrack. Oh yeah, and Michè and Ira are being homoerotic, the usual. A big thanks to @crispyliza for teaching me Greek phrases, one of which I used in this drabble <3. Translations at the end!

What a night it was.

It was still warm, the stickyness driven away by the breeze from the sea.

Sweat stained their clothes nonetheless. Their precious new clothes.

Timothea had decided that asking favours from friends couldn’t hurt and Marco always liked a new, different project in his free time. He had definitely never sewn a dress – or jumpsuit – or just robe – with a harness.

It was past midnight.

“My god, you look stunning, fos tis zois mou,” Timothea had told Despoina, cupping her face while her eyes had wandered over her body.

“Can’t we wear them already like this?” Despoina had asked Marco before her eyes had gone back to Timothea. “Because I want to see you move in this...”

“You can’t, unless you want to get pricked by pins until you look like San Sebastiano,” Marco had replied.

So they had waited until he was done. He had brought his sewing machine to Michele’s place and now watched proudly how the two women moved in his creation. Tassels complimented long, flowing fabric that flew to and fro, a flash of colour almost like a living being, as they danced. It all seemed one, Thea’s microbraids snapping with her movements, Despoina’s braid flowing like a river as she danced.

They seemed like one. The grass under their feet was soft, the ground swallowed the thuds as they stomped and jumped. Hands reached out for each other, traced bodies but never touched.

The fabric and skin, both deep and rich hues, glowed in the orange light from the backyard’s porch.

“Just like Cleopatra...” Music blasted from the inside, Efendi’s Mata Hari. “Let’s start a fire... let’s go.”

It was all one and it was mesmerizing.

Michele didn’t even know if he had blinked until it was over and Timothea and Despoina stopped, both breathing heavy. Now hands touched, fingers ran across faces, necks, collarbones down to navels and thighs.

“You wanna get a room, girls?” Omar joked. At least half.

“But then we’d have to take the clothes of,” Despoina said, her eyes still on Timothea.

“You could also just go behind the veggie patch,” Lorenzo said.

“No one can see you there and between the olive tree,” Marco said.

“It’s perfect,” they both said.

When Lorenzo went inside to get them a blanket, Michele said: “But please, no unchristian activities in my garden. I just had to deal with that.” He looked over to Marco.

Lorenzo laughed while he disappeared inside. Marco scratched his head and looked away.

“We didn’t really do anything,” he said.

“Only because it is you, Michele,” Timothea said. She had sat down in the grass, Despoina lying on her side beside her and giggling at the response.

“Thank you, amuri,” he said.

“We did it in my backyard,” Herakles said. His head rested on Michele’s lap, so now he looked up at him but his look wasn't returned.

Michele sighed exasperated. “Yes, but is there any place in your house you haven’t had sex in?”

“My olive tree wasn’t scandalized into infertility is all I’m saying.”

“You just don’t want other people doing unchristian things in your garden,” Marco said when his brother returned with a blanket.

“Oh, yes, that is true,” Lorenzo said. “We all know how Harry got that one sunburn.”

Marco: “And that other one.”

Both: “And the other one... and the other one...”

“Ogni cani è liuni na sò casa,” Michele retorted while the Bontade twins grinned and the Simonides laughed alongside Despoina. “Puasto abbasta.”

“Original sinning it up in here, huh old friend?” Herakles asked while Michele watched Timothea and Despoina, hand in hand and loving eyes watching one another, disappear into darkness. The glow of their beautiful costumes was a glint only as they settled, disappearing out of sight behind aubergine bushes.

The music still played.

“That’s not original sin,” he replied as his fingers ran through Herakles’ hair. He finally faced him when he said: “You would look absolutely breath-taking in such a get-up as well.”

Herakles blinked. “Are you allowed to say such things with a boyfriend?”

Michele grinned. “Beddu, if he was here, he’d say the same.”

Herakles’ lips twitched into an amused smile.

“We could dance,” he said and took Michele’s hand. “You know. In good christian ways.”

“That must be all alright with my boyfriend and the Lord,” Michele said and Herakles sat up.

The Bontade twins had a chat, both of them half asleep.

Omar played Animal Crossing.

Timothea’s finger twirled Despoina’s braid while she kissed her, Despoina’s hand caressing her hip.

The grass was still soft under Herakles’ and Michele’s feet as it swallowed their steps and rhythmic stomps. Michele let Herakles ‘lead’; he always had such luck with talented men who just knew how to move their body and sweep him along.

“Undercover, I am a dangerous lover, drinking my poisonous water... and you’re under my spell. Mesmerizing, moving my hips, you are trying, you can’t resist, try to fight it... got a story to tell.”

Azula Week Day 4: AU

This could’ve worked for Day 3 too, but I’m glad I took the extra day to add final details.  It’s my first attempt at an ATLA AU!

WARNINGS: Multiple character deaths, and Azula struggling with grief, depression, and paranoia as a result.  Mentions of blood, and some brief gory imagery.  Vague references to sexual abuse.  Azula is possibly not the most reliable of narrators.  (There.  I think that’s everything!)

Everyone had blamed Father for Zuko’s untimely death, but Azula didn’t get it.  How was he supposed to have known that his oldest legitimate child had had an undiagnosed heart condition, and that the stress of the Agni Kai would cause it to give out on him when Father hadn’t even properly touched him with the flames yet?!  But he had, and it did, and that was that. He had given Zuzu all the proper funeral rites, and still the nobles were mad at him!

(Azula had only cried a very little bit at the funeral, when Father wasn’t looking.)

Now that Azula was the heir, Father said, she needed extra lessons with him.  These sessions were no longer simply practicing katas and memorizing military engagements: now she was to learn how to rule.  Father would talk to her every day, and sometimes long into the night as well.  There was something almost frantic about the vast amount of information he was pumping into her head, as if he sensed that he had much material to cover and a limited amount of time in which to cover it.

He’d been right.

The worst came to pass on a sunny yet not beastly hot summer day, almost five months after Zuko’s death.  Father had decided to reward Azula’s progress in her studies with a walk through the gardens together.  There had been more gardeners out working that day than usual, but Azula hadn’t paid it any mind.  (Stupid, stupid!) They’d stopped by a rosebush, Father bending over to smell an especially tantalizing bloom, when Azula felt the shadow upon them, saw a glint of metal out of the corner of her eye.  She’d barely had time to shout out a warning when one of the gardeners leapt onto Father.  Others soon followed.  There were so many of them attacking at the same time, dozens of them, with the element of surprise on their side, that he hadn’t been able to inflict more than minor injuries with his firebending before he was completely incapacitated by his wounds.  Nobody came to his rescue.

Azula had tried to fight them on her own, but several other men had immediately chi-blocked and grabbed her, working in perfect synchrony.  Even with her bending suppressed, she’d kicked and scratched and bit and screamed with all her might, but their hold was too strong for her to overcome.  They’d rushed her out of there, carrying her lengthwise and keeping a firm grip on her head, so she didn’t see much of what happened.  She only got a quick glimpse of blood and Father’s body slumped over the bush before there was a stinging pain in her neck and everything went blurry.  

They’d kept her heavily sedated for the next couple of days; she did attend the hasty funeral, but couldn’t recall any details of it later on.  Finally, she came to her senses, only to find herself in Father’s massive suite of rooms, lying in bed.  As soon as they realized she was awake, the two servants who had been watching her at the time fell into immediate kowtows at the foot of her bed, and addressed her as “Fire Lord.”  All Azula could do was blink at them.  Father, that constant towering presence throughout her entire life, was dead just like that.  And she, in the span of a few frenzied minutes, had been promoted from Crown Princess to Fire Lord.  She was still three months away from her twelfth birthday, yet she was the absolute ruler of fifty million people.  Unimaginable power was hers…if she could figure out how to keep it for herself.

Nothing seemed quite real at first.  Now that Father’s grueling early-morning firebending demonstrations and late-night quizzes–as well as her obligations to Daddy–had abruptly ceased, Azula had so much more free time that she wasn’t sure what to do with it all.  The first day that she was allowed out of bed, she went straight to the Fire Lord’s office.  Sitting at the enormous and beautiful mahogany desk that had been built during Fire Lord Zoren’s reign, she flipped through the pile of important papers awaiting her signature, inspected all of the little drawers and secret compartments, held her brand new seal.  Her head was muffled as if it was underwater, and she started feeling dizzy.  She couldn’t breathe…

(She was told later that she’d been found lying on the office floor, laughing hysterically.  Or possibly crying; the servants didn’t all agree on that point.)

As the details of just what had happened slowly leaked out, though, Azula knew she had to snap out of this state quickly.  It transpired that a group of assassins had dressed as servants and gotten admittance into the garden.  Most of the Royal Guard had either been bribed, or were in on the plan themselves; they’d made certain that the ones who were truly loyal were sent elsewhere at the time.  This had been no ragtag group of malcontents who had acted on impulse.  The number of people involved had been massive, and the assassination had been coordinated and carried out flawlessly.  Even so, to Azula’s fury, their death sentences had been commuted to banishment while she’d still been bedridden.    They had obviously had the backing of someone powerful in the palace to be able to carry out the plan like that and escape proper punishment.

Azula knew exactly who that person was…the same man who’d been declared regent before Father’s body was cold.  Uncle Iroh. He’d kept his own hands clean, but Azula was certain he’d had it all planned out months in advance; anything to avenge his beloved Zuzu.  She highly doubted that he’d have done the same had she been the one to die. Oh sure, he’d put up an act of being concerned about her initially.  He’d come to her room a couple times, tried to talk to her, asked if Father had hit her, or had mistreated her in “other ways”.  At this last, she had threatened to have him thrown in the palace dungeon, and he made no further attempts.

Obviously, he had expected Azula to continue to be in shock–a shell of herself–and easy to manipulate.  He’d let her sit on the throne to receive important visitors, to preside over official ceremonies…but he would hold the real power.  And then, as soon as she came of age to dissolve the regency, he’d likely marry her off to one of his supporters, the idea being that she’d be too busy with childbearing to oppose being turned into a figurehead.

Azula intended to prove him wrong.  Her first official act as Fire Lord had been to change the lock on the door of Father’s office, so that Iroh had had to go find another room from which to work.  Petty, maybe, but satisfying nonetheless.  Her second act had been to start forming her own spy network.  Ty Lee and Mai would prove invaluable for the latter; no one would suspect a couple of schoolgirls of plotting anything.  

(Ty Lee kept worrying about her and asking how she was doing.  Mai, as usual, kept any and all feelings to herself.  But, no matter how strong the temptation got, Azula could never confide in either of them.  That would make them her equals.)  

Within a week, Azula had solid evidence that Iroh was holding secret talks with the ultimate goal of ending the war.  And he thought everyone would just kiss and make up, and the world would be a perfect place where nothing bad ever happened and everyone would just sit around and drink tea all day?  Ha. Unfortunately, she couldn’t remove him from power…not yet, at least.  He had too much support for that.  What she could do was make his life utterly miserable.  Father’s advisors got quite the surprise when she walked into the war room that first time and took her rightful seat on the throne. Regent or not, Iroh still had to bow and otherwise show deference to her in public.  And Azula was determined to relentlessly argue every single policy change he proposed until he wished he were dead in Father’s place.  Someday, as soon as she was able to rally her own supporters, Uncle would get his wish as he was finally punished for his crimes.

New guards had been selected for her, but she refused to have anything to do with them.  There was the possibility that they might turn on her as well, and the certainty that they were reporting back to Uncle.  Even the few who had been proven innocent of any involvement in Father’s death had been too trusting of their colleagues. And what about the servants?  What if they were plotting things as well? Shiza had taken her children and fled at the first possible opportunity, the bitch.  No, this wouldn’t do.  Any palace staff that she’d allow anywhere near her would have to undergo a rigorous selection process, run by her and only her.  

With all of these pressing concerns, every day seemed like a lifetime to her.  Nevertheless, the weeks started passing.  Azula made sure that the palace was always ablaze with entertainment.  She poured money into the arts like no Fire Lord had done in generations.  Erhu and pipa players were stationed in her antechamber all day. She had sleepovers with Mai and Ty Lee and Ruanyu almost nightly, where they binged on sweets and bounced on the mattress of the Fire Lord’s bed until they almost puked.  There were lavish garden parties, huge banquets, plays and operas and ceremonial dances.  A few foolish people had hinted to her that this might not be the most appropriate course of action in a time of mourning, but she insisted that Father would have wanted it this way.  The rest of the court, Uncle included, indulged her.  Azula could tell what they were all thinking:  Look at our beloved child ruler, so brave after the trauma of witnessing her father’s assassination.  Let her have her fun.  However, this line of thought was inaccurate in two ways.  Firstly, she wasn’t a child, and hadn’t been for some time. Secondly, she didn’t actually enjoy any of it; she just wanted something to occupy her brain, to protect her from her own thoughts.  

(The humongous pillows on Father’s…no, her bed were excellent for muffling her sobs at night, once the festivities were over and everything was quiet.  She was good at putting up a front for now, but how much longer until that collapsed?  How was she supposed to continue like this, without him?  She was surrounded by people, yet all alone.  It was as if a huge bleeding hole had been ripped into her gut, tearing her internal organs asunder.  Would this ever heal?  Could it?)

Nearly a month into her reign, Azula was finally crowned.  Traditionally, the coronation of a new Fire Lord would occur on the same day as the old one’s funeral.  However, Iroh had kept finding reasons to postpone hers.  But now he’d run out of excuses, and the Fire Sages assembled at the Coronation Temple for the second time in less than three years.  As the surprisingly heavy hairpiece was set into Azula’s topknot, she knelt in the new mantle and robes that had had to be custom-made for her small frame.  

“Hail Fire Lord Azula!” the head Fire sage boomed.  Azula got to her feet, looking out at the Sages kneeling before her, and then to the crowds of cheering commoners watching from afar.

They all loved her. She felt nothing.

Grandpa Djinn au when Garmadon first meets nadakhan

Where do you get your idea that Ozai was physically abusive to his children to the point of scarring (besides the Agni Kai)? It seems like I’m the beach episode neither Azula or Zuko (besides the face scar) bare any marks of punishment given that they wear swimsuits with no discomfort. We know Zuko is ashamed of his scar and Azula is unlikely to show off any scars given her perfectionism. So if they had scars from Ozai wouldn’t they hide them?

Yes they do, there's a specific brand of makeup used by Firebenders who have a specific level of skill because in training it's entirely possible for things to go wrong and leave burns over people's body. The makeup conceals burns and it's not quite intended to be used as Ozai had it used, but it was used for that.

Ursa also used it when she was married to Ozai to hide the traces of his physical abuse, along with wearing far more concealing clothes. Wife-beating in the Fire Nation of Sozin and Azulon, at least, was not only legal but considered a good sign of husbands disciplining their wives, so physical abuse of children, insofar as it was recognized, operated on the same principle. The Royal Family were slightly different in that visible marks were discouraged.

Canonically this isn't entirely far removed from the Fire Nation of the Kyoshi Novels and where its less desirable traits might well have gone.

As to where I get it he did do this once in canon and I don't see a man like that, especially when he became Fire Lord *only* doing it once in a fit of temper. Ozai's actions really go into overdrive when he becomes Fire Lord and can literally get away with murder without any accountability. Before then it was mostly emotional abuse and some amounts of physical to 'correct' imperfections in his perfect daughter's forms.....and it did backfire on him enough that he had to restrain himself or Azulon might decide his unloved son couldn't be trusted and bump him off instead of the other way around.

He's at his worst in the first AU because there he has a healer who can and does erase the trace of the damage and that's when he goes full throttle knowing he can do a great deal of damage and most leave very life scars.

Ozai is a petty tyrant, the thought of hurting his kids and getting away with it and having people help him conceal his crimes would be the kind of thing he would do because it'd be a sign of how much control he has over others and the sheer scale he can use to exercise it.
