Poll #6, tell us the secrets of what will happen in chapters 9 and 10 of Beneath the Blue Moon!
I'd recommend catching up to chapter 8 before you vote, if you haven't had a chance yet!
I'm not going to be using All of the Above as an option this time for my own sanity, but I will go back to entertaining fun or interesting write-ins for some questions.
This poll will be available for voting until Monday evening, 7/24.
A big thank you to the community at large here for being patient with me as I lost interest in this for a bit/didn't write for a few months. I will always come back to it and don't like to leave things unfinished, for the record. Plus, I can't get enough of writing catty Sylvanas...

It occurs to me I should have made a distinction between mind control magic and magical restraint like Petrificus Totalus 😔So let us assume mind control is off the table.

"What if I'm not trans, what if I'm choosing to be trans for [list of reasons]"
I am grabbing you by the shoulders and shaking you like a can of soda. If, for whatever reason, you looked within yourself and decided to be trans - you're still trans. We (as trans people) don't need to have an "I always knew" story. We don't need to have the ~magical transsexual gene~. It's incredibly hard for so many of us to figure out why we're trans, and if being trans was always a choice, the reasons for choosing to be trans would be complex. If being trans is always a choice, that doesn't negate that we deserve human dignity and respect for who we are.
It shouldn't matter if you chose your trans identity or not, becayse you still are a person. You breath the same air I do, and you deserve to live how you want, on your terms. You watch the same sunrises and sunsets I do, you are here. I, for one, welcome you no matter what your inner reflections are about your transness. You have a place in this world, you have inherent worth.

Pregnancy is not "inconvenient"
Missing the bus is inconvenient.
Losing your purse is inconvenient
Pregnancy is intrusive, risky and life-changing and no one should have to justify not wanting to go through it.

I know some dickheads have now decided that Judaism is the "bad, violent, terrorist religion" and Islam is the "good, peaceful" one, which is only to be expected of white people, but how much of an issue is it currently? Like I've seen some USAmericans sharing how the Islamic faith shapes Gazans values and perseverance (good) except with that distinct white hippie "I'm about to imprint on this like the world's most racist duck" vibe (bad), but I didn't think they're already turning on Judaism in numbers.
Do they realize that Christianity is also the same kind of comfort to Christian minorities in Asia and Africa? That it was Buddhists that genocided the Rohingyas in Myanmar and Tamils in Sri Lanka? That Hindu fundamentalists are even now trying to ethnically cleanse Muslims in India? How Hindus and Christians are terrorized and persecuted in Pakistan? That Muslims have a history of persecuting and ethnically cleansing Jews too?
Really tired of asking y'all to be normal about people's religions man. There's no religion that's inherently violent or exceptionally peaceful. It's just like any other ideology that becomes a weapon in the hands of ethnic power. Interrogate power, not religion, and respect people's belief systems insofar as they aren't in your business.
Edit: I've amended the "long history" of Muslim persecution of Jews because it might be misleading in the current political climate. Zionism and antisemitic Arab nationalism are twin births resulting directly from Christian colonization, and Islamic empires tended to actually be more tolerant of other religions compared to Christianity, especially Judaism, which was considered a sibling religion. Antisemitism wasn't ideologically entrenched in Islamic tradition. It's simply that ethno-religious power will lead to ethno religious domination and intermittent cleansing of minorities, and Islam is no exception. Humans be humaning always.

Zionists want you to conflate Judaism and Zionism. Zionists want you to believe that Judaism cannot exist without Zionism and that all Jews are Zionists. Zionism would have Jews believe that a Jewish state is the only way that they can be safe from antisemitism and will point to any instance of antisemitism as proof that Zionism is the solution- so Zionism wants gentiles to be antisemitic in their support of Palestine. They want you to conflate all Jews with Zionism and the state of Israel, and they want you to treat all Jews regardless of political affiliation as the face of Israel. Antizionist Jews exist, and incidences of antisemitism ostensibly acting against Zionism will not help dismantle the forces propping Zionism up.
Don't do their work for them.
#red rambles#viva palestina#antizionism#i haven't actually seen a lot of antisemitism personally. not recently anyway. but that's more a feature of me not following antisemites#i DO however see a lot of people talking about the people they're seeing throw their support behind antisemites using palestine#as an excuse to conflate all jews with israel#and i cannot stress enough that that is literally what israel and zionist forces abroad WANT.#i am jewish. my entire family is jewish. i want to see palestine free. and i have SEEN how the jewish community gets conflated with israel#both from the inside and out#and i am dead serious when i say that every time someone is antisemitic it strengthens the conviction from people abroad#that it's a terrible sad situation but there's 'no other choice'#if you're being antisemitic you are doing the enemy's work for them. Stop it.#like... look. i am putting this in the tags bc im talking in the tags but i mean this. I do not give a single flying fuck if you personally#are a giant raging antisemite at the moment. Your personal beliefs are your problem and not mine. I do not fucking care. But if you are#being openly and loudly antisemitic *in your support of palestine* you are absolutely not fucking helping. I am so dead serious right now#if you want to raise awareness and you're being antisemitic because of deep held beliefs or whatever i want you to look around and read the#fucking room. Do you understand how much of Israel's international support comes from the idea that they are the only country where jews ar#safe from antisemitism? do you see how every time palestine comes up people point at incidences of antisemitism in anti-genocide actions to#discredit the entire movement? do you not understand how your actions are cutting the movement down at the knees?#i'm jewish and proud of it. i don't like antisemitism. but there's a genocide on and i'd rather work against it than quibble over who i#work alongside. i dont fucking care. you can be as antisemitic as you like in private. stop fucking the movement up.#there are bigger things to worry about here. if i can put aside my own concerns as to who i'm talking to you can hold your tongue#and fight the good fight instead of handing weapons to the people who are trying to fucking flatten gaza.

Researchers have found that aunts play a crucial role in supporting the well-being of their LGBTQ youth relatives, including preventing them from experiencing homelessness. These findings are published in Socius, an open access journal. The research paper, coauthored by Brandon Andrew Robinson, associate professor and chair of the University of California, Riverside's Gender and Sexuality Studies Department, is based on a longitudinal study of 83 LGBTQ youth from the Inland Empire and South Texas, two geographic areas identified as understudied places in LGBTQ research.

Keep Your MCs Close
I typically write in third person limited, which intentionally places a distance between reader and character while allowing a look into the mind of whichever character we’re with. While this distance is part of the perspective, we still want to hold our protagonists close, and we do that through word choice.
Certain words and phrases can distance the reader from the character, which limits their relatability and the emotion that comes through in a scene. Consider these two examples:
She felt her eyes widen as she saw the monster turn the corner. Vs. Her eyes widened as the monster turned the corner.
Which puts you more into the body of the character and feels more in the moment?
The difference is using words such as felt, saw, heard. When you do an action, you don’t feel yourself do it—you just do it. While we’re technically on the outside of this character, we still want to be close to her experiences. As another example:
She felt sick as she heard the vase shatter. Vs. Her stomach turned, a tightness constricting around her ribs as the vase wobbled and tipped off the counter.
Now we’re in the emotion, we’re in this horrible moment with this character. Of course, that’s not to say there should be zero mentions of saw/heard/felt in your story. As with all writing advice, there’s a time and a place for everything. If the word works really well in the scene/sentence, or you’re intentionally placing distance between the character and reader, go right on ahead!
When my characters are kind of feeling out of it and woozy or drunk, they do feel themselves walking down the hallway, because being drunk sort of feels like being outside of your own head. Intention, as always, is key!
Good luck!

Sylvaina Poll #6 Results
Thank you once again for doing your part and voting to torture poor Jaina some more. Poll #6 is now closed.
The first option is going to have Jaina deep in her gay thoughts:
Tumblr media
She definitely is going to be thinking about going back to bed after this though. Because goddamn have you all given her a rough week to live through.
The initial leader did not win the flashback option, but instead things later turned around for the moment she finds out Sylvanas leads the free undead and is still out there:
Tumblr media
I was honestly surprised about the option for what Sylvanas apologizes for first. I saw Teldrassil winning this, and it didn't even come close. Y'all are gay.
Tumblr media
For those of you who answered she should apologize for dying...bruh she's way too bitter about dying to apologize for that! I thought of an interesting option that I may include, which would be apologizing for Edge of Night. Otherwise, good write ins on this one that may get added to the string of apologies!
The context of "Please, I need you" got edged out of being completely gay and into only sorta gay:
Tumblr media
We are collectively undecided in the kiss, and shall be as surprised as I am when I get around to writing the moment it may or may not happen:
Tumblr media
For the bonus question, my smut diversion will be the pre-Third War Silvermoon love motel! This pulled away late as well, as the two Sylvaina options were 50/50 most of the weekend:
Tumblr media
A surprising 15 of you want Valadrin. That's more than the 3 I thought I'd get.
There's 5 Starbucks people???
As always, thank you again for contributing to the wacky fun that is putting this fic up to a vote! Please look out for the answers to these responses to be reflected in chapters 9 and 10 of Beneath the Blue Moon!

Every ace person NEEDS this freaking book
Tumblr media
It has a dozen fiction stories with ace characters all over the spectrum and in so many genres. Im talking ghost stories, supernatural, drama, sci-fi, you name it. I've literally cried three times while reading it I feel so seen
This is the representation ace people need. In every category. We need full length novels dedicated to the ace experience because this would've SAVED me as a kid.
If you're on the aspec, this books is for you.

Every young man who wants to buy a gun should be treated like every young woman who seeks an abortion:
A mandatory 48-hour waiting period, written permission from a parent or judge, a note from a doctor proving that he understands what he is about to do, time spent watching a video on individual and mass murders, traveling hundreds of miles at his own expense to the nearest gun shop, and walking through protestors holding photos of loved ones killed by guns protestors who call him a murderer.
It makes more sense to do this for those seeking guns than for women seeking health care.
No young woman needing reproductive freedom has ever murdered a roomful of people in seconds.
