After every interaction between Jean and Rhemann the only thing I could imagine was Rhemann pouring himself a drink and calling up Wymack like how tf do you deal with an entire team of this

And it was on this day that Rhemann finally understood why Wymack was renowned within the NCAA for being a heavy drinker

Honestly, the thing I'm gonna miss most in TSC is Wymack's attitude and cutting but loving remarks. Coach Rhemann, good luck filling those shoes.

The sunshine court is making me go absolutely FERAL because
1. There is a chance that jerejean is going to happen
2. As a kevjean shipper (im 100% sure they had a thing going on in the past and you CANNOT change my mind) there is a possibility (a little one but thats unimportant) that Kevin and Jean and Jeremy could happen (im delusional)
3. There are probably gonna be some flashbacks or new informations about Kevin and jeans past friendship or whatever they had and about his time in the nest and we are gonna find out more about his past overall because we honestly know barely anything
4. My girlies Laila and alvarez are going to be there
5. We are gonna see the foxes from his point of view and we are probably also gonna meet them again after 10 years
6. Its fucking all for the game what more could you possibly even want wtf

i have literally no idea if Coach Rhenmann canonically has Wymack’s phone #, but i would love to see the messages that got sent throughout TSC.
Some possibilities:
“what the actual hell!!! there is no way this happened from a scrimmage”
“Was Day this bad??? There’s no way Day was this messed up”
“Do u own a shotgun? if so can i borrow it for a conversation with the Raven coach?”
“Did Day ever hand you his racket after a mistake?? Moreau just handed me his and implied his coaches used to beat him with it???? There’s no way… right? he uses a heavy! that could kill him? he never missed games, there’s no way that would be possible if they were beating him like that. Right???”

So I just got done with the sunshine court. And I don't think the first person Jean opens up fully to will be Jeremy. I know we'd like it to be, and Jean trusts him. But I think it will be Coach Rhemann. He is the one that got the closest to it. Like with everyone else, any time something happened, Jean would avoid as best he could and just write off their reactions as inefficent player's. But when Jean handed his racket to Rhemann and he literally had to take a minute to cool down after finding out Jean was expecting him to hit him, Jean was genuinely confused. Plus, there is the dynamic that he always listens to the coaches. I may be wrong, but I see rhemann allot like wymack. Like rhemann even said, Jean was his kid now, and he was going to do right by him and take care of him. Like I could be wrong, but I genuinely think Rhemann will be the first one to truly start opening Jean's tightly closed box.

best of wishes for the hard Day’s work ahead of ya with the fic fest 🫡 thank you for all you’re doing, it’s what Kevin would have wanted.
THANK YOU im always nervous like a little bitchass dog about people not wanting to participate but i think its going to be okay... maybe?!?! but of course its a labor of love so i dont really mind the work :) yesterday i was up until five making little charts of info based on the prompt archive and i have fun making the graphics and i love hearing about everyones prompts so im golden really. kevin would have loved to know someone made an archive of 336 writing ideas about him even though a good feasible chunk are about him getting the fleshlight treatment from various characters in the books

neil’s insistence on hiding his scars for as long as possible bc he knows it’s not normal and the foxes Will stare and ask questions vs jean just stripping in front of the trojans bc he expects his teammates to ignore his abuse since it isn’t their business... neil flinching from wymack's loud voice bc he doesnt trust men old enough to be his father vs jean holding his racquet out for rhemann to hit him after "failing" to do what he said he would do because he expects to be beaten to a pulp by his superiors and because "contrition, coach"... it makes me sick!!! i need to wrap them up in a warm blanket forever

A (very) incomplete list of things I loved in TSC: (obviously, spoilers)
Jean having no sense of time at the beginning. he has literally zero idea how much time has passed and has no frame of reference. it feels like weeks; we only know because we read the original series
the shift once again, this time from Jean's POV, from Nathaniel to Neil! it being a mark of respect
seeing how Neil really relayed the deal with Ichirou to Kevin and Jean (that Neil totally glossed over in TKM)
all of Jean's internal and spoken insults for everyone around him but especially all the Foxes
Jean's complete and utter disdain for short people and how many there are, just, everywhere. why are short people allowed? they should be illegal
Andrew's single word in the entire book being, "Leaving." just classic
the whole scene where Jean watches the final game? where he is so invested in how the Foxes are doing that when they win he shoves the tv?
Jean mentally adding Andrew into the Perfect Court because they need a goalkeeper, deciding that if Kevin and Riko die it would be ok because Jean, Andrew, and Neil were enough to rebuild around
Jeremy standing at baggage claim playing with a yo-yo until he gets it tangled in his headphones
Cat teaching Jean to cook
Jean being adorably horny and constantly swayed by beautiful people
Cat thinking Renee is hot
Jean just...not understanding how people function if their every move is not controlled at first? and then starting to come around?
Jean buying clothes! picking out things for himself!
Jeremy buying people in need gift cards because he can
Barkbark von Barkenstein being the silent unwitting center of a tiny war between Jean and Jeremy
Rhemann starting to realize what Jean/the Ravens have been going through at the hands of their coaches and needing to take a minute or fifty to get over it
Jean finding himself adopted into a queer family and just rolling with it
Jeremy and his complete and utter avoidance of every possible personal problem. nothing to see here, folks
Jean's glee when the Trojans first curse, being absolutely certain that this is revealing some deep well of depravity
the Trojans' techniques for staying sportsmanlike on the court (while really aggravating the fuck out of their opponents)
the fact that Neil and Jean together are basically a buddy comedy (which I NEED MORE OF)
Neil from an outside perspective as a weird little man who can negotiate without flinching with dangerous people, navigate an unfamiliar city after briefly studying printed off Mapquest instructions, coolly order a hit in the middle of a restaurant, and develop a convincing lie at the drop of a hat
Neil's tactless but relentless kindness?
"A cool evening breeze. Rainbows. Open roads. Friends."

The King's Men - Chapter Sixteen (18)
Day: Friday, April 5th / 6th* Time: 7:40 PM PST
Jeremy holds a folded piece of paper up. Instead of taking it Kevin walks him back to the Foxes. Jeremy turns it over to Wymack, who unfolds it and skims the printed list. "Our line-up," Jeremy explains. "It's late to be getting it to you, I know, but we were trying to avoid as much of a backlash as possible." "Backlash?" Dan asks. Wymack hands her the sheet and watches her face go white. When she looks up at him again Wymack shakes his head and turns on Jeremy. "Your pity's a little misplaced. Tell Coach Rhemann we don't want handouts." "This isn't pity," Jeremy says. "We're doing this for us, not you. Your success this year has us rethinking everything about how we play. Are we second because we're talented or because we have twenty-eight people on our line-up? Are we good enough as individuals to stand against you? We have to know." Kevin snatches the paper from Dan's hands and looks at it. Matt leans over his shoulder to see and says, "You're joking. You're joking. You're not?" he asks with an incredulous look at Jeremy. Allison yanks hard on his sleeve, wanting an explanation, so Matt says, "There are only nine names on it." "Two goalies, three backliners, two dealers, two strikers," Jeremy says. "You've made it this far with those numbers. It's time to see how we'd fare in that situation. I'm excited," he says, with another toothy smile. "None of us have ever played a full game before. Hell, most of us don't even play full halves anymore. We don't have to because the numbers are always in our favor." "And you called me a crazy fool," Kevin says. "You'll lose tonight if you play like this." "Maybe," Jeremy agrees, unconcerned. "Maybe not. Should be fun either way, right? I don't remember the last time I was this psyched for a game. Look at this." He holds his hands out to them and laughs. "Bring it, Foxes, and we'll bring it too." He leaves them staring after him, his head high and his smile honest.

*Due to the Leap Year, I have opted to highlight the day rather than the date to keep the events in occurrence to the 2007 year. I will continue to mark both days accordingly.

jeremy knox
ik this fandom has long been split between "jeremy knox is so perfectly normal it's unnerving. sunshine incarnate." and "jeremy knox is secretely fucked up, could've made the fox lineup, his sunshine persona is a complete façade" but i could not be happier with the secret third option we got in canon
it's not a complete façade. jeremy knox cares deeply about other people and he would do almost anything to make them smile. obviously he puts on a show for the cameras, he's a fucking human being, but he genuinely believes in what he preaches.
he has some baggage. this might turn out to be even darker than what we've seen so far, but i highly doubt it would be something that could potentially qualify him for the fox lineup. his family isn't perfect, he'd rather live with his friends. his sister clearly blames him for "ruining their family" and he avoids his older brother and the police like the plague.
jeremy carries these secrets and keeps them from jean, but he clearly has been open about them with cat and laila. even coach rehmann sknows about his trouble with the police (whatever that is about..) and assumed jean knew about it too !* he's clearly not carrying whatever it is completely on his own
he's not the kind of sunshine character that buries everything and secretely kinda loathes everyone and feels trapped in this cage they've made for themselves, while simultaneously not being all rainbow and sunshine 100% of the time.
he's human.
*post-grayson when they go back to the house, rhemann says he would call the police for jean if he wanted and says "i'll send jeremy away first", thinking jean is saying no because of jeremy

Trojan Team ACCURACY!!! (Div 1 perspective bc I'm annoying hehe)
I don't want to hear anyone say it's unrealistic to have that many LGBTQIA people on a team because while not every team does, plenty do and the Trojan's are none as being good people so it makes sense they would have more
On that note, not all the Trojans are queer. It's Jeremy's friend group that is bc again this book is set in 2007 (i think?) so naturally they are going to be more separated from the rest of the team bc things were less inclusive back then and they can relate to each other more (even though none of Trojan's appear to be homophobic except Lucas sometimes)
(even nowadays gay friend groups on team are still a thing y'all, I found it very realistic)
Laila and Cat just dumping all the drama and sexual history of their friend group on Jean made me DIEEEE!!! It was too real, there's always those moments where ppl just word vomit on the newbies about all the past tea and they sit there like o.o
Oversharing on teams happens all the time, for better for for worse
THE COACHESSSS AHHHH!!! Rhemann's subtle support (he just wants to do right by Jean y'all), Lisinski's tough love reminds me so much of the assistant coach I had as an underclassman, Jimenez saying "you know better so be better" IS THE MOST COACH THING I'VE EVER HEARD AHAHAHAH
having your teammates backs no matter what, Jeremy being there for Lucas even though he acknowledges they aren't close, those are your ride or dies fr
getting close really fast. It's been a couple months are Jean's already pretty tight with Jeremy, Laila and Cat. That's what happens when your around your team like 24/7.
ANYWAYS
I'll probably think of more later
