They were surrounded.
Qui-Gon, Mace and he. They had reached the old temple’s core only to be cornered by troops of battle droids. Standing backs to backs, the three of them lifted their lightsabers, waiting.
They had come to xxx following a lead on a sith holocron. A powerful artifact which had made itself known in the Force a few days prior. Yoda had felt it. Mace had noticed new shatterpoints. And more surprisingly, Obi-Wan had dreamed about it.
He wasn’t prone to Force Visions, and yet. He was shown the strange arcade, and also he couldn’t remember it despite his best efforts, a face.
Now Obi-Wan felt both incredibly stupid and slightly betrayed. Clearly the dream hadn’t been a vision but part of their enemies’ plan.
“You’ve lost, Padawan,” said Dooku.
His Master’s master stood amongst the Seppies army as prime as ever. Qui-Gon answered him but Obi-Wan couldn’t focus on their exchange. His ears were ringing and his vision was whiting out.
“What?”
Dooku moved forward and the three of them turned while staying in position. That was when Obi-Wan’s gaze fell on the young man standing in front of the arcade. Their eyes met and the stranger took a step towards them:
“Master?” he breathed.
“Darth?” Dooku called.
And multiple things happened at once. The Force darkened around them, and as did the stranger's beautiful face. He moved swiftly to stand between the count and Obi-Wan, pushing him away from the fight with a single hand gesture, while he lit a blue lightsaber with the other.
“You,” he seethed.

Usually, I like to finish reading a fic before recommending it properly, but I've been sucked into about five different STAR WARS fics recently that I've gotten far enough into that I'm willing to trust my heart to them because they're scratching a very specific itch for me--namely, that I want deeper explorations of both the Jedi Order and of Anakin's character. I want fic to punch me in the feelings over both of these aspects of the story. I want fic to sometimes set Obi-Wan and Anakin aside and focus on Ahsoka for awhile, really tell her story. I want Jedi themes woven into a story. I want an exploration of Anakin's mindset that reminds me of just how much I love him and have sympathy for him. And fandom has delivered for me.
DO YOU WANT FIC TO BLACK OUT TO AND LOSE AN ENTIRE WEEKEND OVER? HAVE I GOT SOME RECS FOR YOU:
✦ Out with Lanterns by SkyeBean, ahsoka & mace & jedi & clones & cast, 312.5k     In another universe, Jedi Masters Plo Koon and Depa Billaba decide a Padawan could do Mace some good. It takes a while, but he eventually agrees. When he takes Ahsoka Tano as his Padawan, Mace knows that he's broken through a Shatterpoint and changed the course of a life. How, he doesn't know.     This fic accomplishes several things that have sent me over the moon: 1) At its heart, it's an Ahsoka fic that shows her growing up as a Padawan, going on missions, learning lessons, and having character growth. 2) It weaves in so many other characters around her, that Mace is there in almost every chapter, serious but warm in the Force, just as beautifully characterized as she is. 3) The other Jedi get their moments of excellents, Shaak taking Ahsoka on her Akul hunt was wonder to read, seeing Obi-Wan show up for a chapter had me over the moon, Adi taking care with Ahsoka was lovely, Depa was a shining star when she took Ahsoka under her wing, Fox growing used to these strange Jedi and growing into himself through Ahsoka's eyes was wonderful. 4) The writing is that kind of solid that I don't mean as mid-tier, but the kind that I feel like can bear weight on it, I can pick it up and read for 30k and barely realize any time has passed, despite that I've gotten through an entire arc of the fic. 5) It does an incredible job of balancing that feel of The Clone Wars show, without directly copying anything, that it's like these are arcs that I could have seen on the show itself, the lessons woven in, but still with enough plot moving forward and action to make it exciting. If you want more Jedi-centric fic in your life (where they don't have to be perfect! sometimes they can be less than perfect and it's okay because they're still good! ohhhh, my heart warmed at that) or you want to read a lovely Ahsoka-centric fic in a different life, but still so recognizably herself, then this is one I want to shove right in your face immediately.
✦ Take it from the top and try again by mauvera, obi-wan & anakin & qui-gon & padme & mace & dooku & cast, time travel, 116.k wip     Five years into his self imposed exile on Tattooine, Obi-Wan Kenobi is gifted the chance to go back and bring hope back to the galaxy. With hindsight on his side, he fully intends to save his master, save his padawan, make some new and old friends again, prepare the Jedi for a war they’ll hopefully never see and begin to pull apart all the many tangled threads of the Sith Lord’s plans. Should be relatively easy. Right?     I got sucked into the first fic in this series (which is complete, if you want to read it--it's not the end of the story, but it's a good stopping point and feels like it should have some solid resolution if you don't want to get into a wip) and read the first fic over the course of about three days because I was sucked in so thoroughly. I can never get enough of Obi-Wan time traveling back to the past, where he loves the Jedi and they love him, and I love this one because he has to make genuine plans for changing things--things change and I have no idea how that's going to affect Palpatine's machinations! Exciting! But it's also a lovely look at Obi-Wan's dynamics with multiple characters--I found the Obi-Wan & Padme scenes a hightlight personally, their friendship really blossomed as they both flung themselves into trying to better the galaxy, even if she doesn't know he's from the future, that he's working so hard matched a lot of her energy and I really enjoyed that--from Qui-Gon to Mace to Padme to Anakin and, as the sequel progresses, Dooku as well. It's another Jedi-positive fic, it has me invested in the plot, it's a joy to see competent!Obi-Wan, and I would love to shove it at more people.
✦ Post Order 66 Exile AU by Livsy, obi-wan & anakin, 46k (wip-esque)     After a failed order 66, in which many Jedi still died but the Sith were defeated, an exiled warrior and a boy wander a distant planet and attempt to get along.     This is probably the shortest fic on this list but I'm including it because it genuinely felt longer than that, for how dense the emotional intensity of it is. It's an AU where the Jedi barely eked out a victory, still on the edge of extinction in many ways, and Anakin deep in the pits of the dark side, so Obi-Wan takes him to a backwater planet in exile for the both of them, traveling through the countryside and just trying to make it from day to day. What punched me right in the feelings place is that this fic doesn't shy away from the hurt and the anger on both sides, that both of them are allowed to be unreliable narrators that have their own points of view on what's transpired and what lays between them. It doesn't back away from the hurt they both feel, the despair they both feel, yet there's hope here. It's ultimately a story about clawing yourself back from the dark side, and it's beautifully characterized for both of them, that unkind things are said on both of their parts, but you understand why the characters are in the place they are. It's wrapped up in a lushly written backdrop, with some lovely Japanese feudal era details woven in, but also with a Star Wars patina spread across all of it. It's not necessarily a kind fic, but if you like fic that bites down on a wound, I enjoyed this series a lot and would love to see it continued--but, honestly, what's here is already enough resolution that, looking back on it after the initial "Noooooo, I need more!" feeling has faded, I'm actually very satisfied with. ✦ Men of Power by AlabasterInk, obi-wan & anakin & mace & yoda & jedi & palpatine & cast, 86.1k wip     When an old powerful man suddenly comes in and sweeps your underage Padawan away without so much as a by your leave, that’s the time to start asking questions.     I'm only about 20k into this fic, so I can't say what shape it will take later on or how much pairings might come into it, but I still had to come running over to shove this fic at people, because it's scratching the itch I have for Jedi-positive fic that explores the idea of Anakin's trauma from his childhood as a slave, that this is a child who is wound so tight and comes from such a horrible thing having been done to him, having been owned as a person, that I understand why he stays silent on some of the things I desperately wish he could talk about or he doesn't really believe some of the things the Jedi tell him. It's a fic that takes a lot more care with Anakin's character than I think canon ever intended, weaving in a lot of the heartbreaking stuff from Legends' supplementing the canon, and is creating something that punches me right in the feelings place for him, that he's such a bright, brilliant boy, but I see why he struggled and it's not about assigning blame in any direction. It's about deeply caring people who fate has take a few steps to the left and something shifts just a little--and I appreciate that there's something very delicate feeling here, that the Jedi just don't have any real reason to be suspicious of Palpatine, his actions make sense, they genuinely can't feel any ill intention from him in the Force, they discuss why it would make sense that he'd want to support Anakin, all while we the readers can see, in hindsight, where the shadows have been creeping in. If you want Jedi-positive fic that also leaves some teeth marks over Anakin's trauma being explored in a way that is entirely sympathetic to him, then I want to shove this fic at you, too.

uh i've been reading a bunch of time-travel fix-its and my brain generated another one of my stupid-ass aus:
Darth Vader retrieves Luke except he is busy so it's Cody who ends up caring for Luke on the day to day bases and through this, he manages to circumvent the chip. (nothing new so far)
Lo and behold some force osik happens and baby Luke is transported back in time into the middle of clone wars and into the middle of 212th frontlines.
Now
This is where it gets interesting
*Luke crying "daddy/papa/buir!" upon seeing Cody*
Obi-Wan: You did not tell me you have a secret child, commander. Cody: I can't have a secret child, sir! I'm gay! Obi-Wan: Now, dear commander, you know perfectly well that the universe is a beautifully diverse place. Cody: (holly shit Luke can actually be my child)
Obi-Wan: Luke, dear, are you sure Cody is your father? Luke: Mhm. He has less lines on his face and darker hair... (holly shit Luke is from the future) Luke: ...but he feels the same so I know it is him! (holly shit Cody fathered a force-sensitive child)
Cody: Luke, do you have other parents? Luke: Yes! I have another dad! Vader! Cody: (oh force he is actually my child) Cody: Can you describe him to me? Luke: Uhm, he wears a mask and a cape and a red sword.. And he has a funny accent!
(holly shit somewhere down the line Cody is going to have a kid with a darksider)
Anakin thinking he is using the braincell when he actually is not: funny accent? close with Cody? OMF Obi-Wan is going to fall

An Awed Review of Padme's Costumes in AOTC
Let's talk about the wonderful quantity of costumes Padme wears in Attack of the Clones and how it reflects the story.
Tumblr media
Padme wears this in the opening scene when she is in disguise returning to Coruscant. She pilots her own fighter and it not revealed until the attempt on her life kills one of her handmaidens.
Female representation: 10/10 Her needing a disguise does not mean putting her in something out-of-character (as an excuse to be objectifying).
Practicality: 10/10 As a uniform, presumably, it is very practical for piloting.
Tumblr media
She wears this gown when she and the Loyalists have an audience with the Chancellor. It makes sense for a Senator to wear - less ornate than the queen costumes and with a smaller headdress and minimal makeup. But obviously it is still a similar style. For Padme, it is also a more mature outfit than we have seen her in - unlike the high shoulders of the queen's outfits or the simple practicality of the handmaidens, this one is clearly the dress a mature woman would wear by emphasizing her figure.
Female representation: 10/10 Though it sets itself apart from the queen's costumes and shows her to be an adult woman (about to take part in a love story), she is not objectified in any way.
Practicality: 8/10 Obviously practical for having an audience with the leader of the Senate, but she would have removed a lot of it for her later action scenes while still being more practical than her queen's dresses.
Tumblr media
This is one of the three nightgowns we see her wear (another in this movie I'll get to shortly). It is white and flowy, as nightgowns tend to be, and does not highlight any of her assets. It is less mature than the other ones she wears, which makes sense for this point of the movie.
Female representation: 10/10 You know I love a lady in a realistic nightgown. We only see her briefly in this, so I can't be sure how thin the fabric is, but it certainly seems to have avoided an excuse to show anything off to the audience while simultaneously showing a vulnerable side as the Jedi rescue her from the assassin.
Practicality: 9/10 I mean, it's a nightgown, so how practical can it be? But from what I can see, it looks easy enough to move around in and she could probably haven't joined the Jedi adventure wearing it.
Tumblr media
This is the dress she wears to pack to leave Coruscant. While less complex than the previous Senator gown, it is still quite detailed. I feel that it is a bit more guarded while being more Padme than Senator Amidala - she is angry to be leaving and angry at Anakin for his part in that. So she is putting him at a distance.
Female representation: 10/10 It's really good, what can I say? Padme's costumes are awesome. It is less regal perhaps than her previous gown but just as distancing (unlike what she will be wearing soon).
Practicality: 8/10 Maybe more practical than her other gown but the skirt could definitely be a problem if she wanted to get up to any adventures.
Tumblr media
Padme wears this while they are traveling as refugees to Naboo. There is also a metal headdress of the same shape that she wears for a few of the scenes. Both are referencing the Madonna, which makes sense for who she is in the series. The pattern is unlike what we've seen her in before, as is the color - this is also a disguise but it also shows a softening of her character compared to the previous two gowns.
Female representation: 10/10 As usual, it's great. Again, her being in disguise could have been used in all sorts of ways but she still looks more or less like the Padme we've known for a while now.
Practicality: 8/10 There are a lot of layers so I don't imagine it would be the most practical for adventuring.
Tumblr media
This gorgeous gown is what she wears as they arrive in the Lake District on Naboo. It is not the best choice if you want to keep your handsome young bodyguard at a distance, though. Definitely the most romantic costume we see in the star wars universe.
Female representation: 8/10 I don't want to ruffle any feathers, but I do think the completely bare back is a bit out of character for Padme. Especially in this situation - she is feeling assassination, you know? And trying not to have her bodyguard fall in love with her. So I don't think she would wear something this revealing if she had a choice. Like, one thing that makes clothes sexy (at least in terms of costume design) is how easily they would be removed, and this is pretty much just a necklace with more steps. So as beautiful as it is, it is closer to the gold bikini than I would like.
Practicality: 5/10 I'm sure Padme could manage in anything she's wearing, but it's a good thing no adventures start while she's wearing this.
Tumblr media
This is the gown Padme wears while having a picnic in front of some waterfalls with Anakin. As you do. She wears a lot of yellow in this movie, in contrast to Anakin's black but also as the idea of being what could save Anakin from the dark side. Potentially. While wearing constricting layers is not new for Padme, this is the first real corset we see her wear (usually it's a stomacher or whatever). This adds to the romantic situation she's in by showing how she is clearly an adult woman.
Female representation: 10/10 You might expect a lower rating after the last one, but this is a perfect example of how to get the sexiness across without exposing a lot of skin. The sheer fabric still leaves things up to the imagination and this is very solidly on her for frolicking in a field.
Practicality: 8/10 Realistically, no more practical than her fancier gowns but still something she could certainly do some running around wearing.
Tumblr media
Padme wears this dress at the dinner with Anakin, followed by sitting by the fire without the feathered shawl. The necklace is certainly an interesting choice. Under the shawl is a black leather corset, and she keeps the gloves on with the necklace. It's also the only time, I believe, that we see her wear black - perhaps foreshadowing how she is actually a dark temptation for Anakin.
Female representation: 7/10 I feel it would be harder to get her out of it than the other gown, so it gets a slightly higher rating. But her shoulders and back are very bare by the fire. And the corset is definitely uh doing what a corset does, which was less clear with the previous one. I mean, I would wear this, but it would not be in a PG-13 situation. So I do have to wonder how much of this is fanservice vs what Padme would actually wear (or even own).
Practicality: 7/10 The feathered shawl is not practical and too much skin is showing underneath it. Plus a hobble skirt is called that for a reason - we do not even see her walk around in this.
Tumblr media
Nightgown #2. And even though it has a robe over it, it is far more feminine and mature than its predecessor. She wears this to go talk to Anakin about his shirtless, sweaty nightmares, while he is wearing a see-through shirt and meditating. They both look hot in this scene, is what I'm saying.
Female representation: 10/10 I definitely believe Padme would own a nightgown with a V-neck and have her hair down to sleep. And she put on a robe, so like Anakin's outfit here, it seems more like an unintentional vulnerability than the previous revealing gowns.
Practicality: 8/10 Another nightgown, so presumably not the best for adventuring. There is a reason she changes before they go, after all.
Tumblr media
Padme wears this on Tatooine as they search for Shmi Skywalker. There is a hooded poncho she wears over it while they are in town and she only removes it for dinner and to see Anakin off. It's a lightweight costume that is quite unlike anything we've seen her wear. But it does make sense for the desert setting and looks fantastic on her.
Female representation: 8/10 I adore this, but that's a lot of Natalie Portman's abs in a carefully designed belt area that points to her navel. Not what I would choose to wear when hoping to meet my potential mother-in-law, you know? I think she even wears this to the funeral, which is probably not what the always-sartorially-correct Padme would do usually.
Practicality: 9/10 Certainly more practical than her other gowns, especially for the desert, but bare midriffs are not ideal for the environment. Though the poncho helps, of course.
Tumblr media
She wears this to comfort Anakin after Shmi's funeral. It is definitely inspired by real-world desert dwellers and I like that. The color is vibrant while the fabric is fairly plain under the embroidery. I'm actually surprised she didn't wear the previous number for comforting Anakin - this one is much more conservative. It is also similar to her second nightgown look, with her hair down and all, and reflects the vulnerability of the scene together.
Female representation: 10/10 It's a great costume for her to wear, feminine without showing off her assets.
Practicality: 9/10 I assume it is very practical for desert life. Though she would need a head covering.
Tumblr media
Padme wears this for the battle on Geonosis. She soon loses the poncho and a monster even rips it to show off her abs again. It is very reminiscent of Leia's outfit at the end of ESB, no doubt intentionally, as both ladies have to kick some ass after their declarations of love.
Female representation: 9/10 I guess it should have a lower rating after the shirt rips, but it's still a pretty great costume for the love interest to be wearing in the final action scenes.
Practicality: 10/10 Obviously this is the most practical thing Padme wears in this movie (except the pilot outfit, I suppose). Though I must say from experience that the color of the sand on Geonosis would be a huge problem for wearing white and it would quickly become pink. But that's fine.
Tumblr media
Padme's wedding dress! Isn't it lovely? I especially love the sleeve details. It fits well with Padme's other dresses while adding some elements of wedding dresses from Eastern countries as so many of her costumes draw inspiration do. It is much softer and more feminine than her other gowns while being just as complex.
Female representation: 10/10 A wonderful wedding dress, I'm so glad she got to have one (unlike, for example, her daughter, who presumably got married off screen).
Practicality: 8/10 It's perfect for a wedding, obviously, but I'm sure she's glad there were no adventures while she's wearing it.

VERSES UPDATE: 1/?
POST-TCW : Path of the Wayseeker.
what is it?
a good ending where Palpatine is outted as a Sith and Anakin doesn't fall
The Wayseekers were a discontinued sector of the Jedi Order from the time of the High Republic through the end of the Clone Wars. Obi-Wan had grown interested in them during his padawan years, but it wasn't until Chancellor Palpatine was exposed as a Sith and the Separatists disbanded that his curiosity became action. Being member of the Jedi Council had left him arrogant and willing, and that arrogance had cost years of suffering for the Clone Troopers, civilians, and fellow Jedi under his care. There was no future in which he could continue hold his seat in power, so he quit the Council, telling them he would remain faithful to the Force, but could no longer serve an agenda. He didn't like who the war had made him and he had to make up for it with or without the council's approval. It wasn't a statement they took to well, but whether is be nepotism or his many sacrifices throughout the years, no one argued with his decision. Along with his new padawan, @valorums, Obi-Wan left for the edges of the galaxy, helping outer-rim planets who struggled to get resources and political aide. A few months into their work, they traveled to the planet of Lothal and it was there—for the first time in years—that he felt an insistence from the Force. In fact, it was less of a suggestion and more of an urgent demand that the duo visit the Jedi Temple buried deep within the mountains of the desert. It was not a difficult journey and once inside, they discovered a trove of Jedi Wayseeker documentation that had been sealed away at the time of their disbandment. They told stories of Jedi who had done unsung deeds of overthrowing dictators, putting an end to flesh traders, helping war-torn villages rebuild their homes, and bringing attention to the struggles that were so often overlooked by the Jedi Order. They looked into all the suspicions civilians brought to them, from government conspiracies to corruption within the Order itself. They did not act as the voice of the common people, they were merely an amplifier to what was already there and they were relentless in their work. They operated outside of the watchful eye of the Council, of the senate, and they had the freedom to help where they saw fit. They didn't need approval before acting, and they needn't stay neutral in battles where there was so obviously a wrong side. It all had the potential to go horribly wrong (and Obi-Wan understood why the Order had feared them), but he knew the Force was telling him that he needed to revive the Wayseekers, that they would bring back a balance the universe had been missing. (And with how spectacularly the old system failed them, a little experimentation couldn't hurt, right?) The new Wayseekers would be Jedi, yet not Jedi all the same, not Grey, nor Sith. They would be the accumulation of the will of the people and of the Force. After establishing a team, Obi-Wan hopes to form a circle of trust with community leaders (not politicians) from different planets to help guide them.
tldr: Obi-Wan gives up his council seat and reestablishes the Jedi Wayseekers who are basically elite Jedi that act without the council's strict oversight and can get involved in plenty of nonjedi-like things
when will i be using it?
a lot
it will be my secondary verse after my main which is mid-tcw
more notes:
Obi-Wan is walking on real thin fucking ice with this stunt
Jedi Wayseekers are not Jedi Shadows, they have much more freedom of movement and are not restricted to the neutral opinion that Jedi are supposed to have
think of it like vigilante justice kinda
it's Controversial because the only people who can really keep them in check are each other
obi-wan's plan is to make a team of self-deprecating people with no sense of self worth
they yeah :// they can kill people :/?

Consider this timeline as a rough outline or default sort of thing. Especially in her later timeline where the directions can be split into divergent verses (Example: Guardian Verse is the “Main” for that timeline, Kingmaker II is an alternate timeline), so please check out the Verses page if you’re looking for a specific verse and details!
I don’t know BL’s indication of time, so I just have the BBY/ABY from SW and the CE from ME.
Prior to 43 BBY 2160 CE:
A child is born…somewhere…at some point to Celestials– one of the first born in a long time. (At least tens of thousands of years.) They are named Nari'ad – the Wanderer/Traveler. They are expected to be bridge from their now-isolationist race to the universe beyond.
Conflict among the Celestials break out on whether or not this should happen. They have had thousands of years of relative security cut off from the younger races, other think it should be prudent to have someone like Nari'ad.
Skira, the second eldest of Kad'Harangir’s children (the avatar of Vengeance) steals her sibling away and leaves out in wilds of her family’s former domains to die. Her older brother and twin Tor, makes sure the child is found.
43-42 BBY | 2160 CE:
Kar is found by Kaan Alor’ade – A True Mandalorian aligned with Jaster Mereel– in a ruined shrine to Kad Ha'rangir, an ancient Mandalorian god on Mandalore.
Anakin Skywalker is born on Tatooine.
Ruusaan is born on Mandalore.
40 BBY | 2163 CE:
Death Watch sacks the Alor'ade stronghold on Mandalore, destroying it entirely. Juri Mirdalaan dies protecting her daughters. A grieving Kaan turns fanatical as he flees to his wife’s clan on Concord Dawn to entrust them Ruusaan, leaving the rearing of Kar to him.
39 BBY | 2164 CE:
Kar’s Force abilities manifest, leaving a Jedi envoy to Concord Dawn. They are chased off at gunpoint by a very protective Kaan, which takes the girl back to Mandalore with him to begin her training.
34 BBY | 2169 CE:
Death Watch massacre locals on Galidraan and incite Battle of Galidraan between the Jedi and True Mandalorians.
Kaan dies on Galidraan. It is debated if he was killed by a Jedi, or by his own daughter. The answer is never known.
Kaan’s brother Ven, who manipulated the skirmish now is clan leader and (grudgingly) guardian to his young ward.
The New Mandalorians, led by Adonai Kryze end the civil war with the help of the Republic. Adonai is made Duke of Mandalore and offers amnesty to his Alor'ade Cousins– an offer that is refused by the Death Watch aligned Ven.
32 BBY | 2171 CE: (V: Cuy'val Dar )
The events of Phantom Menace occur.
Kar undergoes her verd'goten on Dxun. In reality it is an assassination attempt. She “passes” after fooling her would-be assassins and leading then in a week long chase.
Jango Fett becomes the clone template for the Clone Army and recruits some of the best of Mandalore to follow him to Kamino.
With that, Kar leaves for Kamino under the protection of her Uncle Jango and subsequently forgotten more or less.
Kar’s lifetime friendship with Mereel Skirata and the Nulls begins on Kamino.
Circa 21-22 BBY | 2180-81 CE:
Kar returns to Mandalore from Kamino. Talks between her and her cousin, the Duchess Satine, begin with hopes of avoiding another civil war. It is agreed upon Kar will not make any claims against her cousin in return she can so to the university of her choice with the blessings and support of her cousin.
Before the agreement is finalized, her uncle Ven has his Death Watch allies abduct and sell Kar to Zygerrian slavers before the cousins can come to agreement, neutralizing her as a threat and claiming she simply left on her own accord.
22 BBY | 2181 CE: (V: Clone Wars)
The events of Attack of the Clones occurs.
Kar is recruited into Republic Intelligence after being recovered from a gladiatorial ring in the Outer Rim. She becomes the Chancellor’s Hand– an agent only answerable to him. In reality she begins her tenure as his Sith Apprentice.
Kar begins to develop and building what eventually becomes QOSMA utilizing her resources her position gives her.
21-Late 20 BBY | 2181-82 CE:
After an experiment on Force Sensitive younglings goes wrong. Palpatine sends her to tie up the lose ends. Refusing to kill literal children, Kar attempts to smuggle them off world. The smugglers and children are killed by Republic Forces under Palpatine’s command.
After a confrontation with Palpatine, Kar defects from the Grand Army and leaves Coruscant with several other defectors, disappearing into Dark Space.
19 BBY | 2183:  (V: Defection)
The events of Revenge of the Sith occur.
The Jedi Purge Occurs.
While officially listed as KIA, the Emperor still has posted a bounty for information on her alive or dead
The events of Mass Effect occur.
The small Mandalorian tribe began selling their skills as mercenaries on Omega.
Kar finishes the first live iteration of QOSMA, her AI assistant in secret; rumors claim with help from Alec Ryder.
Cerberus turns their eye towards the expatriates; Project Pandora is the tenuous alliance between them, only accepted out of desperation. Cerberus allows them to afford to life; humanity gets a extra-galactic technical advantage.
18 BBY | 2184:
Kar defects from Cerberus, destroying Project Pandora and embezzling funds to assure her family’s survival
Kar’s Mandalorian band has become a bit of success, able to make ends meet. The charismatic woman soon even gathers non-Mandalorians into their fold, making as many allies as enemies.
One ally is the salarian doctor Mordin Solus. Helping both Ruusaan and Kar in there own ways; Ruusaan starting as a medical assistant, Kar finally starting her path in academia in an accelerated salarian university through connections of her “Mentor”.
18-17 BBY | 2184-85 CE: (V: Mandalore)
The formation of the first Mandalorian colony under her guidance. Soon the consequence of colonization brings them to the galactic attention.
17-16 BBY - 2185-86:
The Citadel Council offers an embassy for the Mandalorians, expecting it to be a token gesture. They would be proven wrong, their ambassador would be a champion for the people and against useless bureaucracy.
With the new influx of wealth and influence, the seeds of the Void Collective– her intelligence network– are sown.

Fic Idea Masterlist
Who He Is – Qui-Gon Jinn, right before the Naboo mission, is tossed forward in time where he meets a young Togruta padawan right off the coast of a battle. As she brings him to the base to meet with the High General, he talks a bit about his own padawan. (Time Travel)
Bending Jedi – The Jedi can bend the four main elements they have been keeping these specific abilities hidden away from the populous when they can, as people tend to fear them with what they can already do, the discovery of bending in Jedi would breed more distrust and fear. But the war has made that too difficult, as the Jedi are desperate to protect, and the clones are the first to discover the Jedi’s abilities, more than what they were told in their training. (Bending Jedi Avatar-Style)
Together Twins – An attack on Polis Massa forces Obi-Wan Kenobi to flee with both Luke and Leia Skywalker.
Chances – Trading their silence and obedience for the clones’ freedom at the end of the war, the Jedi find themselves nearly shunned and hated with the intense anti-Jedi sentiments that run rampant due to Palpatine’s influence. The clones refuse to accept this.
Order & Academy – After being rejected by Qui-Gon Jinn, initiate Obi-Wan Kenobi finds himself forward in time during that of the height of Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy. (Time Travel)
Third Systems Unprepared – During the explosion where he received his iconic scar, Commander Cody’s chip was knocked around to the point of disuse. When the Chancellor calls on Utapau to Execute Order 66, Cody has no idea what it means, therefore unable to send the orders to the rest of the 212th Attack Battalion and much of the Open Circle Fleet. It changes a lot.
Reverse Psychometry – After coming back from his stint with the Dark Side, Quinlan Vos spends some time with Obi-Wan Kenobi and touches his cloak with an ungloved hand. Instead of his psychometry giving him flashes of the past, he’s fairly certain it gives him a flash of the future. One where Obi-Wan’s grief is overwhelming, everyone is dead, and Anakin Skywalker burns without his limbs. (Reverse psychometry)
Kamino Investigation – Instead of chasing Jango Fett off Kamino, Obi-Wan Kenobi stays on planet, giving the tracker to another nearby knight, while he investigates the clones and the events surrounding them.
Space Survival – An explosion goes off on the Negotiator, which is in low orbit over the Republic world for repairs. Obi-Wan Kenobi is aboard and holding as much of the ship together as he can for the evacuation of the wounded.
Bracca Detour – Upon an accidental detour to Bracca after being sent to Tatooine for exile with Luke, Obi-Wan Kenobi finds Cal Kestis.
Lothal AU – Owen Lar’s disbelief and mistrust of Obi-Wan chases him away and the Jedi leaves with Luke (or Leia), eventually finding himself on Lothal where he befriends the Bridgers.
Bit Age Swap – Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker has no intention on taking a padawan just as the war is starting, despite being a knight for nearing a decade until his master, Mace Windu, comes to him with an orphaned padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, whose Master died on Geonosis and is determined to fight in this war, whether the Order likes it or not. Skywalker quickly discovers there is more to padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi than first meets the eye. (Smidge of Age-Swapping)
Din Djarin Au – With the Sith and Separatists defeated, Obi-Wan Kenobi and the 212th are finishing the last of the battles against the droids and stubborn Separatist leaders. It is on a planet, during one of these battles, where the droids are invading a city, that General Kenobi rescues newly orphaned and force-sensitive Din Djarin.
Stay Out of it – Obi-Wan and the 212thare in bound to Coruscant for a few days’ rest, refuel and new orders when Anakin and Padme’s marriage comes to light. And then, Obi-Wan can’t get back to the front quick enough.
This is Different – Coming back from Melida-Daan has proven more difficult than anticipated for Obi-Wan Kenobi and it only gets worse when he wakes up, decades later, only to be found – and accepted – by a monstrous Sith Lord, who seems to have some odd soft spot for him. (Time Travel)
Lineage Reconnection – Obi-Wan brings it upon himself to contact Qui-Gon’s lineage and friends to inform them of the news of his death. Yoda does what he does best and meddles. At least, it appears this time, it worked for the better of everyone involved.
Back with Hope – Obi-Wan Kenobi, a while after Order 66 finds himself back in time, reliving events. He doesn’t entirely know where to start with changing things until something changes for him. The Jedi receive a call from an unknown source – it is tiny clone children calling for their only hope – Obi-Wan Kenobi. (Time Travel)
Undying – It is on Bandomeer when Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn discover that the former cannot die, and it is used to their advantage. Obi-Wan keeps his secret, even after Qui-Gon’s death, until he can’t anymore. It is the revelation of the Chosen One prophecy that his purpose is revealed – as a Guardian, Obi-Wan Kenobi cannot die until the Chosen One has brought balance to the Force.
Lineage Last – Anakin and Ahsoka both leave the Jedi Order after she is accused – and proven innocent – and although Obi-Wan understands, the fact that he they left, and he is the last of his lineage doesn’t hurt any less.
Amor – Obi-Wan has been to war before; no one needed to convince him to wear at least some armor. Now how much, that is a different story.
Canon Switch – Anakin Style – After saying something he would come to regret; Anakin Skywalker finds himself in a universe where Obi-Wan had died on Naboo... and Qui-Gon had lived. It is not nearly as he dreamed it would be. (Alternate Universe – Canon Divergence – Time Travel)
Canon Switch – QuiGon Style – A heartbroken Qui-Gon survived Naboo while his padawan did not. Barely surviving for the next ten years, Qui-Gon finds himself in a universe where the opposite is true. (Time Travel)
Dooku Set Up – Tired of Palpatine’s schemes, Count Dooku thinks of defecting when the master Sith Lord is killed. Someone is setting him up and Dooku reaches out to the only person he desperately hopes can help - his grand padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Extra Weird Jedi – The Jedi end up being different than the clones had expected. More odd, dangerous, intriguing. The Kaminoans had told them one thing, the populace’s view of the Jedi. But up close, working with them? It’s so much different.
Baby Counselor – Obi-Wan Kenobi is the youngest member of the Council and is known a bit as the Council baby – at least with other masters – and those on it, are not afraid to treat him that way. It just a tad changes things.
Crechemaster Obi-Wan – When the war comes to an end, Obi-Wan Kenobi decides to become a creche master while Anakin and Padme expect their first child. But when the Senator dies of a cause that is no one’s fault, Anakin is left bereft and leaves his children behind. Obi-Wan takes Luke and Leia into his creche clan.
To be Chosen – Jedi Luke Skywalker is thrown back in time to that where the Order still exists. Finding he cannot go back; he constructs a new life and home into the Temple. Several years later, even though Master Yoda tries to keep a specific initiate away from his sight, Luke encounters him anyways and thinks, perhaps he and Obi-Wan were linked, always meant to be. Perhaps it was Luke’s turn to give back to his master. To be Chosen. (Time Travel)
Kamino Defense – Peace is restored after the war, although the work isn’t done. In response to the controversy surrounding his padawans marriage to Senator Amidala, Obi-Wan accepts a post to protect the clones and their young from power hungry warlords and greedy businessmen on Kamino while the Senate debates what to do with them.
Burned Deep – A thousand years ago, the Jedi chained themselves to the Senate and Republic and dismantled their military as a show of good faith. Now the Senate controls the Jed strictly to keep them from taking over. The Temple becomes a beautiful cage, their stringent parameters for missions a leash. In this world, when the war begins, Jedi are let loose as more of attack dogs than Generals. (Alternate Universe – Canon History Divergence)
Jumping Ages – In an attempt to use what she thinks is a Sith weapon, Ventress just ends up causing some chaos for Obi-Wan and the crew as he ends up popping in at different ages and stages of his life over the course of an unknown amount of time. The only one who doesn’t seem to be rattled is Cody. (De-Aging/Age Regression)
Padme Lives – After surviving Order 66, Padme is forced to hide away with her children, leaving Obi-Wan free to find surviving Jedi and learn about the clones’ predicament.
We Are Burning Stars - Instead of on a faraway planet, fighting the last battles of the war, Obi-Wan Kenobi is walking aside his Commander in the Jedi Temple when Order 66 hits.
Revolving Suns - Raised by Obi-Wan Kenobi, teenaged Luke Skywalker finds himself back into the Clone Wars while General Kenobi falls into an unexplainable coma.

Star Wars Time Travel AU #13: Broken Fight AU
At the end of Ben & Vader’s climactic death star duel, the robe drops, obi wan enters the force, and Vader is filled with crippling loneliness and regret that you can feel a galaxy away. That…interacts with Obi-Wan’s ascension. Vader grabs on to his master’s spirit, grabs on to his regret, and refuses to let anything go
Obi-Wan lets go of his mortal coil. He tries to shake off everything else, but regret is overpowering everything. Vader keeps a grip on Obi-Wan as they enter the force together with screeching disharmony. The universe writhes at the intrusion and ultimately ejects them both. In the pain and chaos, they cling to each other.
The force spits them out 20 years in the past
They wake up in their younger bodies and not only do we get that sweet what the FUCK just happened time travel angst
but literally the last thing they were doing was fighting to the death
as much as i love the thought of some horrified bystanders, im going to say they’re alone because while this au is about angst, even more than that its about MAXIMIZING confusion so everyone has to try and uncluster this fuck with as little helpful info as possible
this is basically a star wars time travel fix-it with the angstiest possible candidates taken at the worst possible moment where they will still have the motivation, knowledge, and power to eventually figure out some common goals and successfully work together
General’s Kenobi and Skywalker were out on some jedi side mission
they pass out
wake up and Skywalker IMMEDIATELY starts trying to murder Obi-Wan because that is his default stress response
Obi-Wan is bewildered because didn’t he already die? is this force hell?
Vader chops his masters LEG off because see how you like it huh how how about your HAND too and then later how about i do the REST and then maybe I can set you on FIRE and leave you t- to- haa
and he collapses because i love loosingletters mtttau (go check it out!) and am lovingly borrowing the idea that Vader has just. forgotten how to breathe.
cody calls to check in at this point and Obi-Wan’ is in medical and emotional shock so picks up the comm like:
“Oh hey Cody! Wow its been ages how are you doing”
“We’re...fine here sir, just checking in on you and General Skywalker, we were expecting you back at camp 10 minutes ago”
“Ah give a moment. Anakin? Anakin its Cody, would you like to talk to him? Sorry Cody, he’s still not breathing. If he keeps this up I imagine he’ll be brain dead within the next, ohm 3 minutes or so. Got to say, none of this is going how i expected but thats the force for you, huh? Mysterious.”
“Sir! Are you under attack? I’m sending backup to your location, are there other hostiles we should be aware of? Are you injured?”
“Its just me and my padawan, no one else to worry about. I’m fine. Well, my right leg and my left hand are a bit less attached to my body than im used to but i’m pretty sure im already dead so im trying not to focus on that. Anyway Cody everything’s started to go black and i just want to say im not mad ok? im so sorry and i forgive you, ok? Tell the rest of the 212th for me please? Toodles!”
“General?!”
and then they realize they’re in the past and padme is still alive and the jedi are still alive and Anakin isn’t constant agony but his brain is still compensating so he gets a bit of a serotonin which helps smooth out his mood as we go forward
everyone else is just terrified because what sort of Sith could have so wounded Master Kenobi and messed with Knight Skywalker’s head enough that he temporarily forgot how to breathe?!?
And Vader already killed Obi-Wan once and really didn’t enjoy the feeling of a universe without him as much as he thought he would so he’s not really keen to let him vanish into thin air again so naturally just:
“If you even think about betraying me I will begin killing everyone you’ve ever known, starting with the youngest and ending with Yoda. If you leave my line of sight for over (1) one minute I will assume you are betraying me.”
Obi-Wan of course, can’t kill Vader, or bring himself to hurt him again. Honestly, the jedi are alive, the republic is standing, the clones are themselves, and Vader’s skin is thriving. Standing next to Anakin every single moment for the rest of their lives to discreetly remind him not to murder people? Less of a hardship, more of a recurring guilty fantasy.

✩   --   BLEACH ON A BUZZCUT    ;   1 / 1
summary: captain rex needs to fix his hair. you help. pairing: captain rex x war correspondent!reader, established relationship warning: angst! and tenderness! mention of fives’ death. word count: 2.2k a/n: dedicated to @cyber-nya. i will probably write more about these two if people are interested. i really love this idea of a war correspondent for the HNN! would be fun.
Captain Rex, in all his years, has always ensured one, simple thing through the long, grueling tide of war:
His hair will always be blonde.
Save for that three month campaign on Kashyyyk, that is. Back then, dying his hair was the last on a long list of concerns. Food, shelter, and not drowning in the heavy monsoon months were at the top. His hair had grown out into angry little blonde tipped tufts, then. The roots of his hair looked like that of his brother’s. His beard, just as dark as the roots, itched. General Skywalker had laughed, citing the fact he’d never seen Rex with anything but his usual bleach blonde buzz.
“You don’t look like the Rex I’m used to.”
He sighs and runs a hand over the grown-out buzz in the barrack’s bathroom mirror.
The words stuck.
Anaxes reminds him of Kashyyyk. Different, but...
He feels the same. Tired, weary, and alone.
You plant your knuckles on the open archway of the bathroom as if you’d heard that thought from across the clamoring airbase. The rap-rap-rap snaps him from his stint in the land of self-pity. Rex’s eyes, warm and soft, land on you leaning in the doorway.
You frown. You know that look on his face.
“Been looking for you.”
Rex, fresh out of the shower, moves to the bench where his blacks sit. Beside those, a half-used bottle of bleach that’s been living in his foot locker for the last month. Beside that, a cup he’s stolen from the mess. Kix had lended him a pair of mint-colored surgical gloves, as per usual. Sure, maybe it’s a gross disuse of GAR medical materials, but... His vanity outweighs his guilt.
First though, he needs to shave. The three day old stubble is begin to rub the inside of his helmet wrong.
Rex, GAR issued towel hanging on his hips, snags the razor on the edge of the bench and turns back to run the water of the sink.
You’re moving across the room. You’re quiet -- and you’re watching the way the Captain wets the razor. You’re quick, snagging the GAR issued travel tin of dry-to-wet shaving cream from atop his folded blacks. You hand it to him, and Rex’s eyes sit on your for a moment.
“Everything okay?”
You lean against the mirror in the space between his sink and the one behind you. Your arms are crossed tightly.
Rex, ducking his chin and snagging a dab of the shaving cream, smears the foamy substance across the sharp curve of his jaw. You watch a bit enamored with the gesture, following the trail of white that paints the planes of his cheeks. Only when it’s even does he speak.
“Fine,” it’s tempered and slow, “You?”
You almost snort. “Rex...”
“Tired,” he supplies, then, realizing yeah, he’s being a little unfair, “I’m... tired.”
“You’re being called a hero,” you push yourself off the wall, spreading your stance and tilting your head, “You and Echo and --”
“Yeah.”
Oh. Your mouth closes almost immediately. Guilt washes over both your faces.
Rex drops his head again. “Sorry --”
“No,” you shake your head as he leans to grab the plastoid razor. The handle is battered and chipped. It’s his trusty one -- one that’s followed him in his pack on nearly every mission he’s run. It fits in his hand neatly. He drums it against the sink as you shake your head, “I... I know it probably sucks... Seeing him go.”
Rex snorts. Then, with an incredibly steady hand, carves a clean shaven path through the shaving cream along his cheek. He finishes the swipe, flicks off the foam, and huffs.
“He’ll be okay,” Rex says, voice wavering, “Just, uh... I’d thought it might be like old days.”
Your heart whines. Hurt pulls at your features. Rex ignores his own heartache.
Things are different. This isn’t Kashyyk. Not like when he had Fives and Echo and Jesse and Kix and Hardcase by his side. Not like when Torrent was whole, or when Ahsoka minded his recklessness and him hers. Everything is different.
And he was stupid to think it could be the same.
Rex is quiet while he finishes shaving. By the end of it, he feels a bit better. Cleaner. Less run ragged. The blonde, bulky and wide with muscle, bends over and splashes his face clean in the sink.
You touch his shoulder when he stands up.
“Hey,” you say, “I’m not goin’ anywhere, you know.”
Rex’s lip quirks.
You have long since become a fast fixture in his life. The affections between you both had blossomed and bloomed and... it had culminated in nights spent together in small cots on planets near and far. It was an unspoken bond -- one that was sewn together with stolen kisses and wandering hands in the final hours of war torn nights.
You’d met him months ago -- before the Outer Rim sieges had risen to the escalation they sat at now -- when you’d been working public relations and doing press releases for Senator Amidala and the other Republic aligned senators.
You’d shook hands with General Skywalker on the terrace of the Naboo Senator’s balcony, and then his Captain’s. The Jaigeyes on his helmet betrayed the kind eyes beneath.
(You were beautiful, standing there in the sun before him. Even now, in the humming overheard lights of the Anaxes barrack bathroom, you’re beautiful.)
Two weeks later, you’d been sent to tail the 501st and report on the war for the HoloNet News in juncture with the Outer Rim Node. HNN had been wanting a reporter in the field for a while now and... Padmé had put in good word.
“Keep an eye on Anakin,” she’d smiled, “And Rex, too, will you?”
You kept that promise you made.
Rex is standing before you now -- tanned skin marred with starlight colored scars. They dash across the planes of his chest and abdomen like comets in the sky. One scar, a large circular hole that swirls in the center of his chest like a collapsing star, has its own gravity. The scars on his body paint a universe in and of itself. Mapped and ever expanding.
He touches your cheek. His hands are warm and calloused.
“I know.”
The smile you give him is reserved for moments like this. Tender. Quiet.
You lean into the touch and kiss his palm. Rex chases the touch with a sturdy press of his lips to your forehead. He speaks against your brow.
“Gotta fix my hair.”
You laugh. “I do love blondes.”
Rex’s chest rocks in amusement. He moves away, towards the bench -- you linger. The electric buzzer, copped off Jesse, hums alive in Rex’s hands. You touch his forearm. Brown eyes look up in question.
“I can help,” you say, “I don’t mind.”
He lets you take the clippers from his hands. And then, he move to stand in front of the mirror again. You trail behind, a head shorter than the trooper, and crack a wry smile when Rex bends -- with an expression of haughty pride -- so you can reach his head.
The peek of brown has climbed up his short bleached hair. It feels odds to reveal a trail of dark brown hair when you run the clippers over his head. You teeter on the balls of your feet, catching a smirk in the mirror on the Captain’s face at the need to get a better view of his head. You swat at his back. He laughs.
The work is easy enough -- and in a minute or so, Rex looks more like Cody than himself. It’s disorienting. His hair was so... his... that the absence of the blonde made him look so much like his brothers. You’d not thought of him as a clone for a long time, now. This moment serves as a reminder.
It’s a bit of a punch in the face.
His life -- as treasured as it is in your hands -- is nothing to the Republic he fights for. The thought is one you’ve bitterly swallowed down for months. All of them... hundreds of thousands of men. Nothing but canon fodder. Nothing but numbers on a datapad.
Rex notes the discomfort on your face.
He runs his hands over his fresh buzz and drops his hands to his waist. The defined muscles of his stomach move as he exhales.
“I hate it, too.”
“Does it bother you?” you mumble, “Looking so much like...”
“Like Jesse?” Rex snorts, “Sure does. Ugly sonuva --”
Your laugh makes him sport a wry grin. You shake your head, moving to eye the job. You did a decent enough buzz. The bleach will hide the imperfections, of course. You swipe at the back of his head and brush some hair from his shoulders.
"Why do you think I bleach the life outta my hair, huh?” Rex supplies as he leans around to grab the half used bottle of bleach -- the tube is blue and reads Fancy’s Hair & Dye down the side in Aurebesh. It’s the best brand he’s used; a favorite. No need for two rounds. Does the job in one sitting.
“Because I like blondes?”
A joke.
He laughs. You snag the bottle out of his hands, then point to the bench as you read the label.
“Sit.”
“Didn’t know you were a stylist.”
You swat his shoulder. Still, you’re reading. And when you finish, satisfied with the thirty minute wait time outline on the bottle, you hand it back and reach for the gloves.
“... You don’t have to --”
“Rex,” you mutter, “Shut up and let me dye your hair, will you?”
His smirk digs into his cheeks. “Why should I?”
You snap the gloves on and brace a knee on the bench beside his hip. In the mirror across the room, you can see the wrinkles along his cheeks return with his amused expression. You plant a sturdy kiss to his temple.
“This,” you say, opening up the bleach and quickly making work at spreading it along his scalp. It reminds you of shitty bleach jobs you did in university -- drunk in communal bathrooms surrounded by your classmates. It’s not neat, but you try to make the bleach even along his head, “is the most relaxing thing I’ve done in weeks.”
“War’s hell.”
“Eugh,” you recoil, “This stuff smells like hell.”
Rex grins. “Extra strength.”
“It’s that Mandalorian hair,” you chirp, smoothing the bleach. Rex’s eyes lull shut, “I never realized how dark it was.”
“It’s deceiving.”
“I like the blonde better,” you say, then adding, “On you, I mean.”
"Not a fan of Crys’ hair?”
You scoff. The 212th trooper had sunshine colored hair. Not like the near silver of Rex’s. His look was high-maintenance. Rex’s was... battle-ready. Easy. Handsome. Not pretty like Crys tried for.
“Despite the brotherly similarities,” you grin, satisfied with the now purple colored head before you, “I really do only have eyes for you, Cap.”
Rex rolls his eyes. “As if you wouldn’t drop me for Wolffe in a heartbeat.”
Another swat. Rex is going to start keeping count. You chuck the gloves in the trash, moving to prop yourself up on the bench next to the Captain as the bleach sets. “That was before --”
“Before you realized I was this handsome under the bucket?”
When you’d first began operating within the 501st, you’d had a few run-in’s with the Wolfpack. Their commander had readily stolen your attention, much to Rex’s dismay. He’d been pining for weeks by that point, and to hear you vocalize your evident attraction to the gruff vod’ika ticked a blonde right off. You still haven’t lived it down.
“Wolffe is... mysterious,” you shrug, “His holonet segments got a lot of traction, you know. Almost as much as -- ...”
Almost as much as Fives.
Charismatic, kind, and handsome. Funny, too.
Rex squeezes your knee. “Hey.”
“Sorry.”
“Don’t be. Still hurts.”
“Kills.”
His arm snakes around your shoulders. Your cheek knocks his bare shoulder. The shared grief ripples around you both tightly. But there’s comfort there. Two souls, hurting -- together. Better than before, and Rex certainly doesn’t feel as lonely as he did when he first set out to fix the blonde on his head.
The kiss is a little jumbled. Your nose bumps his and your teeth clack. It’s sweet and tender and you have to laugh into the gesture. No matter how often you two come together like this, in comfort and in passion, it still yields lovesick results. The 501st Captain has you wrapped around his thumb. It shows, especially when you lean in to steal another moment of the kiss.
Anaxes reminds him of Kashyyyk. Different, but...
He didn’t have you on Kashyyyk.
Now, he’s not so tired, weary, and alone.
But, still blonde.

Last time I went about five months between doing a set of STAR WARS fic recs, this time it’s only been three months! Hurrah! It helps that, as always, this fandom puts out an incredible amount of excellent fic, so I feel like I’m never hurting for fics I want to yell about and shove at people, which is something I continue to appreciate as it often feels like so much of the world is such a huge tire fire. It helps to be able to find fics to retreat into, to have fun with, to express joy and creativity with, and so many of the authors in this fandom are just so good at this! To the point that these sets sometimes take awhile because there are always more fics I want to add, until the post starts threatening to be overly long instead of a decent length–in my defense, no seriously, you guys are just too good! Also, I forced myself to stop at 69 fic recs, because yes I do think it’s funny. (Nice.) STAR WARS FIC RECS: PREQUELS RECS: ✦ a comedy in four acts by jesuisdeux, obi-wan & dooku & yoda & qui-gon & cast, time travel, 4k    This was what time-travel is: staring at the dark sockets of skulls everywhere your gaze lands on. Being haunted by ghosts long gone. The apprehension of the slow yet sure approach of the inevitable which is sending chills down your spine. ✦ No Rest for the Weary by Peach_Bitters (peachybitters), obi-wan & anakin & jedi & ocs, 61k    Needing a break from life at the Jedi Temple, Obi-Wan Kenobi and his apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, visit a Jedi AgriCorps settlement on the Midrim planet of Helia. There they encounter new friends, new enemies and have new adventures, all while attempting to navigate their sometimes turbulent relationship as Master and Padawan. ✦ Stars of Tatooine by Be_Right_Back, ahsoka & kanan & mace & rex & obi-wan & cast, 10.5k    After the end of the world, Ahsoka more or less kidnaps a child, has to air some old grievances, and tries to find whatever peace the universe can still offer. All paths in the Force lead home, eventually. ✦ Festival of Light by dendral, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka & rex & cast, 8.7k    During his first year at the Jedi Temple, Anakin learns that even the Jedi celebrate holidays. ✦ the master, the padawan, the Force by skatzaa, depa & caleb, 1.4k    Caleb expects things to be different after Master Depa takes him as her padawan, but really, it feels like nothing really changes. ✦ desecrate my lungs by loosingletters, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka & padme & cast, 16k wip    Time-travel fix-it in which Mustafar haunts Anakin decades after it happened and years before it would. ✦ Grace by dismantlingsummer, obi-wan & anakin, 2.3k    Shortly after Mustafar, Anakin realizes what he has done. He finds Obi-Wan to beg for death. ✦ Fifth Migration by wrennette, yoda & mace & obi-wan & ki-adi & yarael & coleman & plo & palpatine & cast, 2k    How about an AU where the Sith’s Grand Plan accounted for everything -everything that is, except the fact that the Jedi temple is actually an very ancient spacecraft and the second word got to the Jedi about there being clones on Kamino, all Jedi are called back inside and they take off immediately? Just imagine the dear chancellor’s face… ✦ fill pages with scribbled ink by magneticwave, obi-wan/padme & sabe & mace & quinlan & cast, 9.8k    A year after the Invasion of Naboo, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi is invited by Queen Amidala to return to Naboo and participate in a rite known as the Night of Fireflies. Things kind of snowball from there. ✦ Mind Your Words by Peach_Bitters (peachybitters), obi-wan & anakin, spanking, 7k    Obi-Wan reminds Anakin that there are consequences for careless behavior for young Jedi on missions. ✦ (you taught me) the courage of stars by grumpyhedgehogs, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka & cast, 5.1k wip    Ahsoka Tano flees after a warrant for her arrest is issued, but not before receiving aid from an unexpected ally. (Ahsoka proceeds to go on a road trip filled with a bunch of strangers who all say the same thing: Obi-Wan Kenobi is much more than he has ever appeared to be.) ✦ they faked it (guess everything’s complicated) by katierosefun, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, 4.5k    Ahsoka temporarily loses memories of the events of Obi-Wan’s fake death. To help with the healing process, Anakin and Obi-Wan have to pretend that they’re okay. ✦ programed to dream by ghostwriterofthemachine, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, body horror, 1.3k    The spaceship Comet-rider is the fastest, most efficient vessel in the galaxy, and is crewed by Separatist-funded pirates. Anakin Skywalker is missing. Unfortunately, these two things are connected. ✦ Unpleasant Truths by hellowkatey, obi-wan & anakin, 2.1k    Obi-Wan and Anakin are stuck in a room with one another while waiting for truth serum to wear off. ✦ moment’s silence by skatzaa, obi-wan & owen & beru & luke & leia (pre-obi-wan/beru-owen), 2k    Owen had long since resigned himself to trouble, whenever Beru got that particularly stubborn set to her jaw. ✦ hold gently and let go by shatou, obi-wan & anakin (pre-slash?), 1.7k    A troubled Anakin comes to Obi-Wan to discuss attachments. ✦ sun child by Ro29, obi-wan & anakin, 2.1k    (or; sometimes being so tied to the Force causes problems, Obi-Wan helps his Padawan as best he can) ✦ A Dinner Out by Peach_Bitters (peachybitters), obi-wan & anakin & cast, 1.6k    Obi-Wan can’t get his young Padawan to eat much, so he tries something new. But trying something different has unintended consequences. ✦ Shades in the Desert by loosingletters, obi-wan & anakin & luke & owen/beru, 10.8k    Not even from a certain point of view did Darth Vader kill Anakin Skywalker. He wished he did, but the specter of the Jedi’s light escaped before he could finalize his fall to the dark. Meanwhile, Anakin is raising his son on Tatooine. ✦ somewhere along in the bitterness by CallToMuster, obi-wan & anakin, major character death, 3.8k    It was probably the twelfth day floating alone in space that Obi-Wan and Anakin realized no one was coming for them. ✦ Songs for Little Jedi by soft_but_gremlin, mace & younglings, ~1k    The initiates are having nightmares, so Mace sings a lullaby to comfort them. ✦ atmosphere level by softredscrunchie, obi-wan/satine & qui-gon, 1k    As a joke, Satine tells Obi-Wan she thinks Mandalore is flat. He doesn’t take it well. ✦ on sith holocrons and misunderstandings by billowypants, obi-wan & anakin & mace & yoda & cast, de-aged!obi-wan, 7.2k    or, de-aged!Obi-Wan has the same Force bonds as adult Obi-Wan, and he does not react well. ✦ Perseverance & Resilience by loosingletters, obi-wan & anakin, 1.1k    In the aftermath of Naboo, Obi-Wan realizes he needs strength to protect his new Padawan. Growing up, Anakin needs peace. ✦ A Delicate Balance by Peach_Bitters (peachybitters), obi-wan & anakin & yoda & jedi, spanking, 9.6k    As Anakin’s skills grow, so too does his penchant for getting into trouble. After a training mishap, Obi-Wan struggles with his role as Anakin’s master. ✦ mirror, mirror by CallToMuster, obi-wan & anakin, 5.4k    Obi-Wan has been rescued by Anakin after being rather embarrassingly kidnapped on the remote planet of Ilnuria during his investigation of rumored kyber crystals deep beneath the planet’s surface. …But is all as it seems? ✦ Mace Windu Appreciation Week by Redminibike1, mace & obi-wan & anakin & ponds & cody & jedi & cast, 12.5k    Set of unconnected ficlets for Mace Windu Appreciation Week, because he deserves it :) ✦ begin again as a quiet thought by skatzaa, obi-wan/quinlan, d/s, ~1k    Cool, smooth leather touched his jaw—gloves. Because of course Obi-Wan had thought of that as well. ✦ Drunken Lullabies by Siri_Kenobi12, obi-wan & anakin & siri & quinlan & aayla & garen & bant & ferus, 6.5k    “Do I really have to go to this thing?” Fourteen year old Anakin Skywalker dramatically sighed. “It’s sooo boring!” ✦ heaven knows how I love you by the_13th_battalion, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, 1.2k    Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka are stranded on an unfamiliar planet overnight. They spend their time exploring the community- and maybe they get a little closer to each other along the way. ✦ A Reckless Padawan by Peach_Bitters (peachybitters), obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, spanking, 3.9k    When Ahsoka upsets Anakin with an act of reckless disobedience, it falls to her grandmaster to help her see the error of her ways. OBI-WAN/ANAKIN RECS: ✦ Too Hot by secretsolarsystem, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 4.8k    Too Hot: A game where two players kiss without stopping and without touching each other. If one player touches the other, that player loses. The winner gets to do whatever they want to the loser. ✦ Nostos by intermundia, obi-wan/anakin & padme, NSFW, 17k    Or, how Obi-Wan and Anakin discover that there are many ways to come home. ✦ to touch the light, darkest by treescape, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 1.9k    Obi-Wan begins to fuck Vader back to the light ✦ encode by loosingletters, obi-wan/anakin & padme & handmaidens & cast, 26.3k wip    Instead of being accepted into the Jedi Order at the age of 9, Anakin Skywalker became a ward of Naboo. ✦ Hunting the Homeward Light by GreenQueenofClubs, obi-wan/anakin & mace & ahsoka & shmi & padme & cast, 31.9k wip    When Anakin Skywalker was nine, he left his whole life and mother behind to follow Qui-Gon Jinn to Coruscant and the Jedi Temple. When Anakin Skywalker was twenty… ✦ use my body to break your fall by tennessoui, obi-wan/anakin & cast, NSFW, sith!obi-wan, 44.7k wip    Obi-Wan Kenobi is too good at being a Sith Lord general of the Separatist army. The Jedi Council approaches Anakin with an offer he can’t refuse. These things are, actually, related. ✦ Over and Over by obiwanobi, obi-wan/anakin, 1.4k    “I love you,” he blurts out, loud and impossible to miss. Obi-Wan blinks once, twice. And freezes. The first time Anakin tells him is a mortifying experience. ✦ Exceptions by rinverse, obi-wan/anakin & ahsoka & mace & quinlan & cast, NSFW, modern au, 23.4k    Young and brilliant, Anakin is the mind behind JEDI Tech’s latest innovation. Obi-Wan is the company’s perfectly composed Director of PR & Marketing. And last night, they were just two strangers at a bar, looking for something quick and easy. But life had other plans when it crossed their paths again the very next day. ✦ Here There Be Dragons by Ghost_Owl, obi-wan/anakin & ahsoka, 10.1k    Anakin knows why he can’t shift into his animal form like every other Jedi. It’s because he doesn’t want to, it’s because he’s had a vision of what he would become, and he doesn’t want it. ✦ Waiting in a Sea of Stars by Peach_Bitters (peachybitters), obi-wan/anakin, ~1k    Stranded in deep space, Obi-Wan and Anakin wait for rescue. ✦ Tristitia by JSwander, obi-wan/anakin & cast, NSFW, sith!obi-wan, 5k    An alternate timeline where Palpatine focuses his attentions on Obi-Wan Kenobi instead of Anakin Skywalker after the attack on Naboo. ✦ Prompted - Chapter 11: Communication, What Communication? by intermundia, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, modern au, mobster au, 7k    a 7k obikin PWP that is somehow a prompt mashup of a mobster au, an accidental sugar daddy au, with a soupçon of an anakin never left tatooine au, and a pinch of qui-gon was anakin’s dad au ✦ who a person truly is cannot be seen with the eye by RexIsMyCopilot, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, d/s, spanking, 3.6k    Anakin purposely avoids doing what Obi-Wan tells him to do. ✦ Prompted - Chapter 12: Potidaea, 432BC, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, historical au, 4.3k    Here is a short smutty scene inspired by all those classics asks, Alcibiades praising Socrates in Plato’s Symposium, and this vase c.490-480 B.C. depicting standing, face-to-face intercrural intercourse between a bearded man and a youth, which as far as we can tell was the most common and accepted position for it in Ancient Greece. ✦ Prompted - Chapter 13: Minikin and Tiny-Wan by intermundia, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 5.4k    Happy May the Fourth! In honor of this happy day, I have written the fluffiest, crackiest, vanilla-flavored smut imaginable. Based on long discussions on discord with tomicaleto about her adorable Tiny AU. ✦ to hold until brightness by treescape, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 1.4k    Obi-Wan feared that it drew out the darkest in him, to bring Vader to these flashes of light, but it was a trade he would make again and again without hesitation. ✦ May Be Found, If Sought by ghostwriterofthemachine, obi-wan/anakin & mace & quinlan, magical academy au, 2.3k    In which Quinlan, Mace, and Obi-Wan teach Non-Traditional Magical Philosophy in an institution rampant with academic snobbery and discrimination, something dark is stirring in the nearby forest, and no one is ever prepared for Anakin Skywalker. A small story about first meetings in magical academia. ✦ infinitely varied by loosingletters, obi-wan/anakin & ahsoka, modern au, 2.2k    Also known as Obi-Wan and Anakin teach a tiny program called A.H.S.O.K.A. how to be something more than lines of code via the power of linguistics. ✦ recipe for disaster by tennessoui, obi-wan/anakin & ahsoka, modern au, 9.8k    When Ahsoka tells Anakin she doesn’t want to learn piano anymore, Anakin is heartbroken. He doesn’t care about the instrument, obviously, but he’s practically in love with her teacher. Obi-Wan offers up a solution to their impending separation, and it’s not dating like any normal person would suggest. Instead, he’s gonna teach Anakin how to cook. Except Anakin’s a pretty well-known chef, and Obi-Wan is absolutely awful in the kitchen. ✦ Pretty Kitty by GayCheerios, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 2.2k    “Master, you always take such good care of me,” Anakin says, a little chirp coming after his sentence, as his thumb rests on Anakin’s plump bottom lip. ✦ As One, Into Eternity by Pseudonymoose, obi-wan/anakin, force ghosts, 3.1k    Death comes, but the man who was, and is, and will be Anakin Skywalker is not gone. And in the Force, he will never be alone again. ✦ does he make you laugh? by y0u_idjits, obi-wan/anakin & ahsoka & cast, fusion fic, 3.6k    “Tell me it’s not about screwing the guy who’s screwing your husband.” ✦ Rotten Work by secretsolarsystem, obi-wan/anakin, 2.8k    Obi-Wan: I’ll take care of you. Anakin, with bloodshot eyes and a broken back from hours of terrible posture: It’s rotten work. Obi-Wan, who needs to bathe this man for his own sanity and health: Not to me. Not if it’s you. ✦ afterimages by shatou, obi-wan/anakin, 1.3k    Mustafar is nothing but a bad dream. ✦ understanding is honoring the truth beneath the surface by RexIsMyCopilot, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, d/s, 7.3k    Anakin asks Obi-Wan to take control. ✦ The strongest stars… by Tomicaleto, obi-wan/anakin & beru & cast, NSFW, 7.4k    The war’s end seems to be close, with everyone looking forward to it. And when Anakin is doubting himself the most, an unexpected visit arrives at the Temple. ✦ home has a heartbeat by izazov, obi-wan/anakin, 5.6k    Or: Anakin and Obi-Wan are together, but there are still some things left unsaid between them. ✦ turn back now (i’m haunted) by tennessoui, obi-wan/anakin & padme & quinlan & ahsoka & cast, modern au, ghosts au, 25k wip    Anakin Skywalker’s house is haunted. Luckily for him, Padmé knows a ghost hunter. Unluckily for him, it’s the hottest, most english-professor ghost hunter he’s ever seen. And extremely unluckily for him, he’s starting to get the feeling he understands maybe ten percent of what’s actually going on here, not to mention what’s at stake. ✦ game plan by treescape, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 11.2k    Or, Vader keeps capturing Obi-Wan during the Wars. Obi-Wan keeps escaping. It’s kind of a thing. ✦ Provocation by ToolMusicLover, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 4.9k    Or: Obi-Wan and Anakin attempt to navigate their complicated relationship with barbed words and wilful ignorance. It wasn’t going well. ✦ Languages by Crowgirl, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 6.5k    So Anakin pulls out a map and makes a list. REBELS RECS: ✦ The Scent of You by ambiguously, kanan/hera & cast, a smidge of nsfw, 2.9k    Everything changes after Malachor, and Kanan has trouble finding his balance. ✦ Heard It in a Love Song (Can’t Be Wrong) by ambiguously, zeb/kallus, 2.7k    Kallus can’t quite figure out what makes Zeb tick, but he keeps trying. ORIGINAL TRILOGY/MANDALORIAN RECS: ✦ A Discussion of Choices by Peppermint_Shamrock, luke & mace, 2k    Mace Windu has traveled the galaxy since the fall of the Republic, keeping out of the Empire’s sight and teaching where he can. Upon the request of a ghost of an old friend, Mace finds himself instructing Luke Skywalker, who is still reeling from the truth of Vader’s identity. ✦ staring down the barrel of the hot sun by magneticwave, luke/din & obi-wan & grogu & mace & cast, 25.7k    “Gone to a Child of the Watch, the Darksaber has,” Grand Master Yoda announces in his creaky little voice. “Peace, there is not, and yet peace, there must be.” ✦ Released by Peppermint_Shamrock, cody & rex & luke & cast, 6k    Nearly two and a half decades late, Cody’s chip is finally removed. @tvpeongsstuff also asked:
Tumblr media
well....depends on where he goes?
It’s interesting to think about what he would do in the past, whether he would change anything, and if he did, would he keep his cards close or tell the council everything (I lean towards the former), would he make sure they avoided the fight on Naboo or would he kill the Sith and survive. Would he knight Obi-Wan and train Anakin himself (yes because he’s stubborn and doesn’t realise Obi-Wan deserves better)? What knock on effects would this have, up to and including Obi-Wan keeping his head down and being a perfect (-ly miserable) Jedi Knight, Dooku potentially staying with the Jedi, etc? However, in terms of scenario, I got a bit stuck on the future rather than the past, and also rambled about how Tim-Travel Is Real and Here’s How in maybe too much incoherent detail.
Not to ramble about Jedi theology on main or anything, but I think that the Force exists beyond time, as in the Force is everywhere, and the Force yesterday is the same as today and tomorrow. It’s how Jedi have visions of the future, because that future already exists within the Force. So, when a Jedi ‘becomes one with the force’, constructs like time don’t exist. Neither do objectives like ‘this universe’ or ‘the universe where Anakin did save Padmé’ or even less prophetic twists like ‘the universe where Obi-Wan DID take the deathsticks’.
In my headcanon, Force Ghosts absolutely could figure this out and manifest in the past. They don’t do this because they are boring and small-minded. Jedi these days...I guess when you’re working for the Republic there’s no time to sit down and ask why Jedi can see the future but not reach in and change it, or why some Jedi can teleport but not time-travel? It’s all just space and the force, isn’t it? So say the last time Qui-Gon hit a bong and decided to study the living force enough to become a ghost when he died, he got MORE esoteric with the meditations and figured out Force Ghost time-travel too.
All this to say, when he dies and pops back as a ghost, his first thought is probably hmmm better check on Anakin. His next thought is probably oh shit, and Obi-Wan, my student of 12 years. I also think it’s quite easy to get lulled into just merging into the Force or getting lost, rather than concentrating enough to go somewhere, let alone chose where you end up. Maybe for a laugh he’d accidentally get stuck in some artefact in the temple for a bit, like...just him and some echo of a long-dead darksider chilling in the force attached to a cursed robe in the depths of temple storage or something. Or maybe he’d accidentally tune into a couple of people’s force dyad space-time calls ("Can you see my surroundings?""You're gonna pay for what you did!" oh dear, wrong number) before actually going anywhere deliberately or getting stuck somewhere.
In canon, Qui-Gon is too boring and traditional to actually risk doing anything more than occasionally whispering vague encouragement into a couple of Jedi’s ears. So I don’t think he’d choose to actually explore time, or change the past. But that sucks and also so does studying really hard for your entire life and then in death maintaining the concentration to exist visibly using the force only to then look like a glitchy blue hologram. So, I think it would be cool for him to accidentally focus too hard and and accidentally properly re-embody himself somewhere in the gffa. Qui-Gon’s characterisation, as most Star Wars characters, is made very difficult by the breadth of material available, and the relative lack of actual screentime in the canon films, but he seems to be both a traditionalist, and also a bit of a renegade. Like, libertarian uncle energy. So it would be very interesting to see him confronted with the changes that overtook the Jedi in the near future, rather than the past.
I think it would be most fun if he could accidentally get stuck in the clone wars.
A clone scuba unit on some random planet in the middle of nowhere, doing underwater recon suddenly fish out some guy claiming to be a Jedi, look, I have a lightsaber- wow ok the blade is invisible, it didn't used to do that, oh wait yeah I'm actually made purely from the force and so are my clothes and accessories, don’t make me lose concentration or I might turn back into a blue ghost or just vanish or explode or something. Or more likely, he wouldn’t say anything, even when he figures out he’s not going to vanish any time soon and actually he doesn't need to concentrate that hard to keep the body, he can just use the force very powerfully to explode some droids- wait, why are there droids now? He'd probably just say some vague jedi catchphrases until someone comms their Captain who comms their Commander who comms the General who comes to check it out, who goes white and very bravely doesn’t pass out, who comms the Council who verify, this is dead Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn only somehow alive, and decide that “actually we can’t recall General Kenobi from undercover, and the 92nd just lost their general....” and put this possible ghost-creature that just emerged from the depths like the world’s lankiest space-shark (if sharks wore dripping beige robes and had kind of eldritch force powers even if they were reluctant to use them or speak in a way that made sense to people who don’t read Jedi philosophy treatises for fun).
The 92nd aren’t really in the thick of it, anyway. They need the Jedi manpower and they need to keep Jinn out of trouble until they figure out whatever the hell the madman’s done this time. Hey, at least he’s not Pong Krell or some shiny knight who’s never been anywhere without their master, let alone had a command of an entire battalion. There’s no way this could go wrong.

The Star Wars Saga Is A Meditation On Single Motherhood
It recently dawned on me that the entire story line of the Star Wars saga is built on the lives, loves and tribulations of 3 generations of single mothers. There are monsters to slay and aliens to find and planets to explore, yes, but if you think about the powerful message in the movies, you’ll come to realize it was mostly a reflection on the status of single mothers, the outcomes of their offspring, and the conflict that lives forever in their descendants.
Each trilogy, once reframed, becomes the story of one woman, who finds herself in a situation that is as old as time. She is with child, but the person who planted the seed in her is not by her side.
Shmi Skywalker or The Good Single Mother
In the Phantom Menace, Jedi Knight Qui Gon Jin meets Anakin Skywalker, a slave boy with a talent for repairing machines. The Jedi knight is impressed with the child’s abilities. He’s knowledgeable, intuitive, and most importantly he’s also kind and thoughtful. When a sand storm threatens the group of travelers, Anakin takes them to his own home and offers them shelter.
We meet Shmi Skywalker, who in many ways is the archetype of the good single mother. She is not just quiet. She has completely erased herself. She has no personality, apart from being Anakin’s caretaker. She expresses no needs, no desires, no dreams. She simply loves Anakin, and when she sees an opportunity for him to leave the desert planet ruled by the Huts, she doesn’t stand in his way.
In a now famous scene, Qui Gon asks her about the child’s origins and Shmi famously responds “There was no father”. The line continues: “I carried him. I gave birth. I raised him. I can’t explain what happened”.
Tumblr media
The immaculate conception myth refers to the idea in Christianity that Mary, much like Shmi, was impregnated by some magical force, a holy spirit. Both are parabols: images we use to discuss painful topics. Single motherhood has probably always been a part of the human experience. Jared Diamond explains in “Why Is Sex Fun?” that in terms of evolution, it is more rewarding for human males to be “super spreaders “ rather than “good fathers “ . The “good father” gene does not pass down to future generations, because in effect, not sticking around to raise the child is a better strategy for a human man to pass on his genes to the next generation. Not convinced? Just count how many women have been impregnated by a rapper like Future (8 last time I checked). If you’re not into hip-hop, you can think of the offspring of the Mongol Genghis Khan
The purpose of the parabol is to provide an image, to extract ourselves from the technicalities of onr person’s story and to instead talk about all single mothers at once. Indeed, single mothers come in all shapes and sizes. Some are widowed, some are abandoned, others are lied to, and some run away from abusive environments.
Shmi raises her son the best she can, and her love for him is unconditional. She doesn’t bat an eye when he is freed while she is to continue her life as a slave. She doesn’t even seem to mind when Anakin leaves the planet and never returns to free her, even after he marries into some serious money.
But the story of Star Wars tells us that Shmi’s relationship to Anakin, because it was so fusional, because it was all that he had, led to his undoing. In Episode 2, when he senses she is in danger, he jeopardizes his mission to protect Padme to go rescue her. When he eventually finds her, he is so upset about her ultimate death that he commits mass murder, targeting the Tuskan riders of the sea of Dunes.
When Yoda first lays eyes on Anakin, he senses Anakin’s pain, he is just a child whose been ripped away from the only human that’s ever cared for him deeply. The turmoil inside the boy is palpable, and Yoda advises against training him.
Padme Amidala or The Bad Single Mother
Anakin develops feelings for Padme, and in Episode 2 the pair decide to secretly get married in the lake district of Padme’s home planet Naboo. Their relationship is very intense. Both share a strong sense of civic duty: Padme was elected queen of the Naboo when she was just 14 &  Anakin is a keeper of the peace. They care deeply about issues such as how the galaxy must be governed, how much action needs to be taken versus when diplomacy must be prioritized.
Their strong sense of service has made them lonely young people. They’re far away from their families, surrounded by advisors, servants and droids - not friends.
They jump into their relationship with an eagerness that suggests it is their original caretakers they crave for.
Padme becomes pregnant while the Clone Wars are raging, and immediately Anakin begins to experience trouble with his sleeping. He imagines Padme is dying in childbirth, and the visions haunt him during the day. His fear that she will die ultimately leads to his decision to join the Dark side of the force. Senator Palpatine has manipulated him into believing that Sith Lords have discovered the power to prevent death itself.
Just like his mother before him, we need to look at Anakin’s story in terms of symbolism. It isn’t really about his specific experience with fatherhood : it’s about the universal conflict that men feel towards their own offspring. Even the way it is announced to him, in the Senate chambers, barely hidden from the rest of the Coruscant elite, implies some sort of entrapment. The columns around them seem to be like a cage that is closing in on his life. He is in the middle of the Wars - he should be celebrating his victory over General Grivious, but instead he is stuck with his wife and he has to absorb her anxiety & reassure her.
Tumblr media
Anakin makes a weird, forced smile and says : “This is a happy moment.” But neither Padme nor the audience believe him. Nothing about him feels happy, he isn’t relaxed: he is tense.
At the end of Episode 3, Anakin attempts to kill Padme when she condemns the mass murders he’s committed against the younglings in the Jedi temple. Hr uses for the first time his “strangling” trick, which becomes his signature move in the original trilogy.
Palpatine makes Anakin believe that he’s killed Padme, but the truth is somewhat more nuanced. She dies of heartbreak shortly after giving birth to twins. For anyone who thought this was corny, it’s actually been proven by the scientific community that heartbreak reduces your life expectation (it diminishes the size of the telomeres in your body cells, which is the molecule that helps replicate your DNA).
As Lisa Feldman Barret wrote in How Emotions Are Made:
Emotional harm can shorten your life. Inside your body, you have little packets of genetic material that sit on the ends of your chromosomes like protective caps. They’re called telomeres. All living things have telomeres—humans, fruit flies, amoebas, even the plants in your garden. Every time one of your cells divides, its telomeres get a little shorter (although they can be repaired by an enzyme called telomerase). So generally their size slowly decreases, and at some point, when they are too short, you die. This is normal aging. But guess what else causes your telomeres to get smaller? Stress does. Children who experience early adversity have shorter telomeres. In other words, emotional harm can do more serious damage, last longer, and cause more future harm than breaking a bone
More severe cases involve patients actually dying of a broken heart, the myocardia just collapses under the weight of the sadness the human feels.
The original trilogy should be re-viewed with all of this new information we have. In the 80s, when Empire Strikes Back came out, the “I am your father” line became instantly iconic. But the plot twist was more like an “Oh My gosh!” moment rather than a profound reflection on fatherhood. The audience sympathized with Luke not because his father had been absent and negligent, but because his father’s job was to serve a fachist leader. It was the actions of Darth Vader as a political servant that were questioned, not his refusal to nurture a smaller being.
Padme is the opposite of Shmi. She is the archetype of the “bad” single mother. The bad single mother is the single mother who can’t deal with the situation and checks out of it. She collapses under the weight that she feels on her shoulders. She can't get over the heartbreak, she can’t find the will to live.
Society tends to punish the Padme’s just as much as it praises the Shmis. Television programs like “Teen Mom” are set up to shame the young deviants into adopting the correct behavior. The purpose of the show is to judge these young women into becoming self-sacrificing mothers.
Leia Organa - The Non-single Single Mother
Leia Organa is Anakin Skywalker’s daughter. She is raised by an adoptive frailly on Alderaan after she’s separated at birth from her brother Luke. Much like her mother, she becomes a dedicated public servant, a trusted leader and a beloved public figure.
She is raised by a wealthy family in the central galactic systems. The Organas teach her the ways of the elite political class. As an adult she serves the cause of the Rebels, and when she meets Han Solo in Episode 4, the mediocre smuggler fascinates her.
In the now famous scene from Hoth in Episode 5, Leia declares her love for Han Solo right as he’s about to be frozen in carbonite. The ultimate bad boy responds his chilling, because realistic  “I know”.
Tumblr media
Han is nothing compared to Leia. He drives a broken down ship, doesn’t have any morals or even a simple code of conduct, much less a cause that he’s dedicated his life to. He has nothing to offer her, and is definitely not in her league. But still, in Episode 6, the pair become an official item.
The last Trilogy was an opportunity to explore Leia’s experience with motherhood. By now we know that Leia’s grandmother was a “Good single mother”, she completely sacrificed herself to protect her son & more importantly she never questioned her status of sole caretaker (remember the “there was no father“ line). We also know that Leia’s mother was a public servant, and a passionate woman who allowed herself to fall deeply in love with a sensitive young man with a non existing support system. Leia’s mother was the “bad” single mother: driven only by her career (Queen of the Naboo, later a Senator of the Old Republic) she did not step up to the task when her destiny revealed itself to her.
Leia seems to share her mother’s taste in reckless young men with a lot of attitude and no emotional security to offer. It’s the excitement she craves, not the tranquility.
Her fate will be the same as her foremothers. She has a child with Han, but when she sends him away to be trained by Luke, she loses them both.
Their dialogue in Episode 7 goes like this:
Han Solo : Listen to me, will you? I know every time you... Every time you look at me you're reminded of him.
Leia : You think I want to forget him? I want him back.
Han Solo : There's nothing more we could have done. There's too much Vader in him.
Leia : That's why I wanted him to train with Luke. I just never should have sent him away. That's when I lost him. That's when I lost you both.
The last trilogy develops Leia’s character in a way that allows her to be something else than just a single mother. She loses her husband, she even loses her son to the dark side: but she never loses herself. Leia doesn’t allow her condition to define her. She becomes a leader of the Resistance even if it means going after her son’s New order.
In Episode 9, Leia even destroys her son to protect Rey - the symbolism is that she’s overcome her role as a mother, she’s rejected the notion that she must sacrifice everything for her son even if it goes against her own self interest (like Shmi). She also rejects the idea that her partner abandoning her is the end of her. It isn’t. Unlike her mother, she finds the will to live, and to lead the next generation of freedom fighters and peace keepers.
The saga ends on a hopeful note for all of us single mothers out there. It comes with a message for us : we don’t need to choose between the austere Shmi and the weak Padme. We can instead decide that this “single mom” problem is kind of like beauty : it lies in the eyes of the beholder.
Single moms don’t need to think of themselves as failures, they don’t need to live in modest conditions, they don’t need to beg society's forgiveness for merely existing. They don’t need to be ashamed.
Single moms don’t need to erase their brains and their lives, and sink into an ocean of denial either. They don't need to be obsessed with their careers or caught up in romantic entanglements that are only going to exhaust them.
Single moms can just decide that they’re women, with beautiful, inspiring personalities and kind, loving hearts. Mothers are first and foremost, the leaders of the young, the protectors of the realm and the makers of the future. It’s not that it doesn’t matter that they’re alone. It’s that they don’t have to be alone at all.

Binged the first season of The Mandalorian a couple of nights ago. Some scattershot opinions and commentary:
My favorite kinds of Star Wars stories are the small-stakes, peripheral, personal ones. So yeah, I’m enjoying Working Single Dad In Space
I think Din Djarin/Mando is pretty much the person that a lot of Star Wars fans, especially a lot of dudes, like to imagine that they’d be if they woke up in the GFFA tomorrow. Competent, fair-dealing, more humane than you’d expect on first glance...and prone to occasional splashy explosions of ultraviolence.
Given all of that, and how very easy it would be for Mando to be a one-note stoic video game protag guy, I like that subtle characterization cues let you know that a lot of his success is down to advance preparation, conscientiousness, and patience. I love that he’s a big, earnest goober (Got a major problem? Recruit the three people who were nice to me once to help). I like that when the helmet briefly comes off, it’s a regular-ass forty-something dude with terminal helmet hair to match his concussion, who’s having a *really rough day.*
Diverse cast ftw. We still live in a bizarro universe where about 80% of the people in the world are men, but the *sheer level of badass* that all the women are bringing makes me feel marginally less bad about that.
I don’t hate the fight choreography! It’s mostly sensible, economical, and supports the story rather than “Let’s stop everything cold because it’s time for the requisite twenty minutes of ineffectually flapping glowsticks around.” When things get silly, like IG-11′s spray-and-pray tactics,  it’s because you’re meant to find them silly.
This is about the first time in Star Wars that some writer has seemed to be at least passingly familiar with what a bounty hunter actually is, and how bounty hunters differ from mercenaries or assassins.  I appreciate that whereas it’s usually portrayed as this glamorous rock-star lifestyle, Mando is usually choosing between equally humdrum jobs with equally garbage pay, hustling like crazy to keep his ship flying and his extended family supplied, and spending a lot of time being ragdolled around by pissed-off wildlife, having his shit wrecked by scavengers, or being low-key harassed by shitty coworkers.
Other than the “I don’t need yet another streaming service subscription” problem, I’ve waited this long to tune in because I felt like the reality of the series couldn’t possibly compete with out-of-context Baby Yoda. I am happy to report that I enjoy both. Also I’m curious to see how much information we’ll get in future seasons given that, in a franchise where aliens who cameo in the background of crowd scenes get action figures and detailed biographies, there’s such purposeful silence about anything related to Yoda’s race
I’m loving all of the cameos, especially by other people who do unrelated Star Wars stuff. Anakin getting murdered by Savage Opress whose buddies are then roasted by an X-wing squadron consisting of several of the series producers/directors? Nice.
It’s super weird to me that Mando has no frame of reference at all for the Force or the Jedi, and that the Armorer only vaguely mentions knowing of “old songs” dealing with Mando/Jedi conflict. Mando was a child during the Clone Wars, the verd who rescues him after his parents are killed is wearing Clan Viszla/Death Watch insignia, and at least one other Viszla is part of his covert as an adult on Nevarro. So even given that this is new!canon and all of the stuff in TotJ/KotOR/SWtOR era didn’t necessarily happen, even given that at the height of the Old Republic, there were still relatively few Jedi compared to the size of the GFFA and that they didn’t travel extensively outside of Republic-member-nation space, and even given that the Empire mounted an extremely thorough, systematic disinformation campaign to convince people that the Jedi never existed/couldn’t exist, Mando logically has met people who personally fought with or against Jedi and Sith.

9. Star Wars
Explanation:
So watching the prequel movies, trainwreck though they are, Qui-Gon Jinn is just kinda there; most don’t really care about him other than he was the one who trained so Obi-Wan, especially kids. I know when I first watched them when I was like ten I didn’t really notice him except for how he affected my favorite characters.
When you watch TPM when you’re young, however, you also don’t really think much of the Council scene where Jinn vows to train Anakin besides confusion at why Obi-Wan wasn’t going to train him. As you get older, however, and rewatch that scene you can pick up the undertones and implications of what actually happened and react accordingly. When I watched that scene and realized that Jinn was essentially like ‘Oh well, I like Anakin better and you won’t let me have them both so. . . I guess Obi-Wan just has to move on now,’ I got so upset. That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but is still pretty accurate as far as the audience is aware.
This realization made me look deeper into Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan’s relationship, however, so I read TJA series and, suffice to say, was less than pleased with what I found. Jinn may seem like an okay, for the most part, guy in the movies, but he is such an a**hole in the books! Like oh my gosh, the man had serious issues and should not have been given care of a child. Granted, much of it may have been due to the trauma of his last Padawan, but that still doesn’t excuse the, quite frankly, awful way he treated both his first Padawan and Obi-Wan.
From the very start, Bandomeer, through Melida/Daan, his consideration of Bant, Tahl’s death, his constant undermining of the Unifying Force, all the way to Anakin and Obi-Wan’s recommendation for his trials, he did not act in a way befitting a caregiver or guardian. If Social Services existed in the Star Wars universe, they would have intervened, hell the Council should have intervened! He essentially repudiated Feemor and Obi-Wan because he had no use for them anymore and seemed to be of the train of thought ‘out of sight out of mind.’
And there are other, much more concerning hints at what their relationship was like in both the books and movies, such as when Obi-Wan APOLOGIZES for DISAGREEING with him. Like, for some reason, Obi-Wan felt it was necessary for him to ask forgiveness for a difference of opinion with a man who, for all intents and purposes, had just cast him aside for the shiny new toy (Anakin).
Also, Jinn’s obsession with Anakin pissed me off. Yes, Anakin was a prodigy and, with proper training, had the potential to become amazing. HOWEVER, he was VERY emotional and had a lot of anger, even more so than Obi-Wan when Jinn rejected him (repeatedly) for that EXACT THING!
Essentially, Jinn was a huge d**k and Obi-Wan’s apprenticeship much have been hell (even if he won’t admit it, even to himself). I also sincerely doubt that anyone knows the extent to which Kenobi’s life sucked, because, let’s be honest, he’s more the ‘pretend everything’s ok and maybe it will be one day’ rather than the ‘sharing is caring’ kind of guy.
Prompt:
There are two ways this can go:
1.
A time-travel fic where Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan travel to the future during the Clone Wars and meet everyone. Everyone is so excited to maybe be able to change the past and also see what Qui-Gon was like and what Obi-Wan was like as a kid (because, again, Obi-Wan isn’t really the sharing type).
They are, therefore, shocked when Jinn acts very dismissive and cold towards Obi-Wan and Obi-Wan just. . . rolls with it. They start freaking out (212th, 501st, Anakin, Ahsoka, Council, etc) and try to step in or tell Obi-Wan that he doesn’t have to put up with it and Obi-Wan is just really confused and averse to it (because it’s always been that way and Jinn has done nothing wrong and he deserves whatever happens because he’s emotional and disobedient).
OR 2.
Just Jinn can time travel and he acts that way toward grown Obi-Wan and everyone is like ‘WTF WHY ARE YOU PUTTING UP WITH THIS’ and watch as one of the strongest people they know (someone who’s faved down countless enemies, Sith Lords, certain death, unspeakable torture and never faltered) crumble before their very eyes (by the man who raised him no less)!
A Scene I Desperately Want To See:
Basically after Obi-Wan does something incredible in battle (can be the older one or younger) and everyone is in awe Jinn comes up, in the middle of the camp/ship/whatever (essentially just in front of all his men and Anakin and Ahsoka), and starts tearing him down (not yelling, more like holier-than-thou nitpicking and degrading comments that he genuinely doesn’t see as wrong) and Obi-Wan goes from this strong, straight-backed, determined figure to a slumped, holding back tears, meak, accommodating/unassuming/trying to sink into the ground/hide in his robes figure and everyone is like WTF?!? and Obi-Wan just wants to leave and have everyone leave them alone because, even after everything, Jinn is/was still his Master and he knows better and Obi-Wan loves him (platonically).
Try to Address TJA stuff if you can:
-Bandomeer
-Melida/Daan
-How Obi-Wan thinks (and probably Qui-Gon who certainly didn’t dissuade the thought) that he was the one who was responsible for Tahl’s death
- How Jinn started considering Bant/giving her attention after Melida/Daan
-How Jinn constantly rebuked Obi-Wan’s gift in the Unifying Force and tried to make him something he wasn’t
And:
-His (essentially) repudiation of Obi-Wan in favor of Anakin
-Him caring about/being nicer to/praising/lavishing attention on Anakin over Obi-Wan and constantly down-playing/overlooking/degrading Obi-Wan and his accomplishments and using him as an example of what not to do and saying it was amazing Anakin turned out as well as he did with Obi-Wan for a Master
-Telling stories of all of Obi-Wan’s mistakes and all his failures in the past (to Obi-Wan and others)
Notes:
This is heavily influenced by a series entitled ‘The One He Wanted’ by I_Gave_You_Fair_Warning on AO3; I HIGHLY recommend you read it, it’s very very good.
