Okay, so looking back at the rest of the shadowhunter chronicles, someone has to kill their parent every three books (that aren’t story collections), e.g. Clary killing Valentine, Gabriel killing Benedict, Julian killing Andrew and Kieran killing the Unseelie King. Which means, that someone has to kill their parent in Chain of Thorns. And, obviously, the only way this makes sense in any is Grace/Jesse killing Tatiana.
Anyway maybe I’m going insane but I think it makes sense.

Ok, I liked Chot. But this are a couple things that still need to be answered and that I thought would be handled during TLH:
Who wrote “I didn’t choose this life - 1904” in Ty’s Scholomance bedroom
Honestly thought it would be Grace’s punishment or Matthew.
Who got their marks erased by Brother Zachariah
Expected it to be Tatiana or Jesse since his marks are “dead”, but we never know.
Why does Lily Chen appreciate Cordelia Carstairs
I literally expected a meeting during ChoT or something impressive but I suppose they must have met each other at the Hell Ruelle.

Terrible TLH Theory
Do not read if you haven’t read the SOBH for this week or recent snippets from Cassie on Twitter
You’ve been warned
So basically my thoughts go like this:
I don’t like how Tessa and Jem handled the situation of Kit with the gun, but Tessa had a visceral reaction to seeing that gun. She knows Kit would never hurt Mina, but her immediate reaction was to get in between that gun and her child. And the only thing that I can imagine would make her respond like that is if she saw it happen 100+ years ago.
But it was James pointing the gun at Lucie. And probably shooting Lucie.
I don’t think James did this of his own volition. There are two possibilities to the perpetrator: 1. Belial, for obvious reasons. James may have not been in control of his body, and it was used as either a coercion method or a way to hurt them. Or both.
My second thought it Malcolm. I think I read that Cassie said Lucie bringing Jesse back has brought things out of balance. Her consequence seems to be not being able to touch anyone now. I had a previous theory that Malcolm was going to try to force Lucie to help him raise Annabel and that’s why only her soul comes back to her body but her body doesn’t work. So then he thinks she’s tricked him and uses James to get revenge. Which would mean James get put under a spell again.
A third possible option is that he is aiming for someone else, but Lucie somehow becomes the target. Or maybe James shoots someone else. I’m not sure Tessa would react like that if it were an accident, and the parallel feels too evident. The event she’s recalling just feels malicious.
I hate that this is where my mind went. Let me know what y’all think

yk I think for the Intermission: Grief we're all just gonna get transported to the snack bar at the back of the cemetery (where they'll have little ghost cookies and soda made from the tears of mourners of course) for a couple pages before we shuffle back in and take our seats for the finale

ok just tell me this.
WHY THE FUCK DO THE CARSTAIRS OWE THE HERONDALES?!
Hi anon 😂😂
Ok listen you're not gonna like my answer but... as far as I'm aware we actually don't know?? Basically here is my take on it:
The whole "Carstairs owe the Herondales" thing COULD be because of The Infernal Devices and Jem and Will's bond and Jem missing Will now that he's dead and wanting to take care of his family and repay Will for always being there for him, and I think that's certainly part of it.
But I don't think that's the WHOLE thing, because Will is just as 'indebted' to Jem, and this also couldn't have been passed down through the Carstairs family (to eventually reach Emma) by Jem because he was a silent brother, so it must have been passed down by Alastair and Cordelia's bit of the family. Personally I think that something is gonna happen in Chain of Thorns that will fully explain why the Carstairses, a hundred years later, still know they owe the Herondales.
As for what this debt could be, I'm a little bit (ok a lot) afraid that either Lucie or James is going to sacrifice their life in some way to save a Carstairs in Chain of Thorns, and since James really needs to stay alive to pass down the Herondale name (cause sexism) and the gold eyes, I am severelyyyy afraid for Lucie rn, like I can see her sacrificing herself to save Cordelia (cause duh, parabatai) and yup I'm scared.
I hope this answer made sense, if not please feel free to send me another ask! I love receiving asks and getting to talk about this stuff xx

The Spiral Labyrinth-Ep. 2
Our Chain of Thorns theories are finally here, and we are spiraling 🌀
The Spiral Labyrinth is a little more hectic than usual this week as we prepare for the upcoming release of Chain of Thorns.
Bry and Jules are sending out thoughts and prayers in advance for all the weird and wild theories that are most definitely coming true (because we said so 😌).
Will Matthew be the reason for Intermission: Grief? What is the consequence of necromancy? What about the price of banishing a Prince of Hell? How do you feel about a dog with a seraph blade? Who is running this theatrical production anyway?
We don’t have answers yet, but we do have plenty of feelings. … And no spoilers ❌ just fun ✅

I was thinking about chot and came across a tumblr post can't recall who wrote it, about lucie and cordelia (a parallel about them controlling and being in control, lucie "commanding" jesse and cordelia "having to obey" lilith), maybe that would make them have some kind of confrontation ?? adding the fact that now lucie is more vulnerable to belial, and he and lilith don't get along so they could use them as to fight whether is for something in particular or just to get rid of the other (I mean, cordelia is lilith's paladin so.. )
and if cc would've made them perform the parabatai ceremony before chot, that would be even more painful and filled with more symbolism.

like a couple others have said, I too believe that the “bitter” in bittersweet is gonna refer to james and not cordelia or grace or matthew or alastair. just drawing on how great expectations turns out for pip (very bittersweet) and the foreshadowing in previous stories and the overall melancholy with which tessa talks about her kids, I just think it’s gonna be james
likewise, I have an inkling that the “original tragic ending” of the series that cassie was gonna write pre-covid refered to matthew and his demise OR the death of one of the TID parents, but she I feel like she changed that

Hear me out: James was supposed to die in ChoT
Not sure if someone has already said this, but I think James was supposed to die in the original ending of Chain of Thorns.
We all know that this book was supposed to have a much more devastating ending than it did and that CC reworked it because it was too sad.
And that whole thing with the paladin’s sword being able to heal the wounds it inflicted came completely out of nowhere. It was revealed in a really odd manner, and by Lilith herself - why would she even tell Cordelia that? I think it was added as an afterthought (as did so many parts of this book) and that James was initially supposed to sacrifice himself to kill Belial, but this time die in the process.
Continuation of the Herondale line would not be an issue - Cordelia would have already been pregnant by the time he died. (Why else would she let them finally confess their feelings and fix the miscommunications halfway through the book instead of the second to last chapter?). And they were married, so Cordelia was officially a Herondale, and so the child would get the Herondale name as well.
This would have also made the love triangle somewhat less pointless, because I believe we’d then also see Matthew stepping up to take care of Cordelia as a pregnant widow after James’ death, and later marrying her.
Finally, CC has never killed off a main character before so it would definitely have been a shocker. And it would explain why Tessa always recalls the TLH time period with great pain.

CHOT theory time!
This is for all the people who read the first chapter on CHOT
Spoilers Ahead:
So I was thinking about Ariadne and how she found information her father had written about the Herondales and Lightwoods. And how her mother acted when she was in Maurice’s office: no longer warm like she was earlier. I think this confrontation will end one of two ways:
1. Ariadne’s mother kicks her out of the house. Either as punishment for snooping and seeming “untrustworthy”, or bc Ariadne defends her friends against her parents’ prejudice. OR
2. Ariadne chooses to leave the house on her own accord. She’s lonely and her mother is hostile, so why should she stay?
Either way, that brings her to Anna’s doorstep because she feels she has nowhere else to turn. She can’t go to the Institute bc that would look bad on her family and she still cares about them. So she goes to Anna, who ultimately lets her in bc of the information Ariadne has. And then they’ll rekindle their relationship after some angst and tension
What do we think?

ChoT Cover Thoughts ✨
roses representing grace's growth and her ability to become her own person separate from tatiana' thorns? (also ngl having those thorns wound in your hair sounds like the worst sort of torture)
an oil lamp to lead the way into darkness? toward blackthorn manor? choosing to go back into her past to find out more about what Tatiana was doing behind closed doors (the curse, agreements with belial, with various warlocks, etc.)? I want this to be her helping the crew so badly
the archway in front of blackthorn manor representing a portal? and the broken fence in front of it meaning they can finally go through?
that single yellow rose on the right is killing me. I want it to mean something
green dress, not a color typically associated with Grace, but @lifeofbrybooks reminded me of the line: "green to mend our broken hearts." she's been the cause of more than one broken heart that needs mending, but I also want her heart to be mended as well, ideally with kit?? pls?
