Here's Cucurucho and Oscurucho's long lore conversation from yesterday! The entire conversation lasted about 8 minutes, but most of that time was just silence between each exchange, so I edited out the long pauses and got it down to ~3 minutes. I also fixed the audio levels and added subtitles since I personally find it difficult to understand Oscurucho sometimes :'D

#Cucurucho #Oscurucho #QSMP #December 21 2023 #Edited #Subtitles #For those who like knowing the gritty details and specifics about the things I did for this video - #I adjusted Cucurucho's volume because they were very quiet compared to Oscurucho #I fixed the sound direction (for lack of a better word) of Oscurucho's voice b/c he was speaking through my right headphone 90% of the time #so now it's more of a ''centered'' audio rather than a right ear or left ear thing #I added subtitles (obviously) #I fixed the camera a bit so it's more focused on Cucurucho / Oscurucho #and I adjusted the translator box so that even with the crop; they're all still included #usually they get cut out when I edit things because I'm just focused on the characters; but then one day I was like #''Why am I cropping out this thing that specifically helps people understand the story better?'' #So moving forward I'll see if I can do what I did here and add translation boxes as their own ''layer'' overlaying the clip itself #for big lore videos anyways or for clips with long conversations at least #I jokingly said to myself ''I bet I'll wind up shaving 5 minutes off this'' and I was right lol #I enjoy the official QSMP streams but one major critique I have is that the pacing was a bit slow in one or two streams #which is understandable considering many admins have to write in books (which takes time) and translate things (which takes even more time) #And that's valid! But in the last stream (the one with Elena) for example; many scenes dragged on far too long #and it wasn't because people were taking extra long to write books or translate things. It was purely a matter of pacing #idk I'm a professional writer and editor so I'm extra nitpicky about things like that. I think it's something that's pretty easy to fix tho #This is just my critique in terms of the story pacing - like I said; the time it takes them to write / translate stuff is understandable #this is more of a comment on the overall pacing #anyways rant over #Today's stream had much better pacing! Still a bit slow (again; I cut 5 minutes from this conversation) #but that's due to the communication medium (TTS) so that's understandable. That's valid. alhaitham in this for one scene is determined to spend every frame smiling, i can sense the shift in pixels

canon laughter, he thought he was cute fr! Also the blatant scheme to distract kaveh by sending him to books he has previously annotated, so he can chase up the aborted mention of kaveh being down and his reluctance to discuss it in front of alhaitham, and then for kaveh to return having found a compliment for his annotations which ensures that his heart meter goes up, which alhaitham comments on,,,, the choices here are immaculate and powerful

Alhaitham ‘evading’ the direct question only for kaveh to reinforce the fact that he has ascertained the truth and therefore asserting that he’s more of an interesting conversation topic than alhaitham’s work, and alhaitham not denying this because he’s deterred his original aim of being in the house of daena solely to talk with kaveh and talk ABOUT kaveh,,, and then not accompanying the traveller and kaveh to port ormos because he wants to finish his work before going home, meaning that it was nearing the end of his shift but he still dedicated time to kaveh regardless

there is nothing to be analysed here, he tells kaveh to talk about his projects and stays to listen and then teases him, revealing that he has been privy to many of these talks before and has listened to each one so that he knows kaveh’s favourite projects and with this, the details behind them, we get it, you know him inside out, no one’s trying to take him from you

He has to mention the fact he knows kaveh and that they share a private past outside of the player’s knowledge with every line guys or these thoughts will grind his brain into pepper

He finally managed a compliment that couldn’t be misconstrued as derisive - that is the impressive achievement here

it makes me sick this whole scene is used to raise kaveh’s happiness meter and that alhaitham is present during all of it to ensure that 1) the heart raises by one, and 2) it remains raised by one. This scene just shows how much alhaitham cares about and KNOWS kaveh, and the fact it all takes place in the house of daena where they first met and became friends,,,, yeah that’s Their spot, we can see how far you’ve grown and how much you understand each other inside out to each other’s betterment or detriment, and this shows how alhaitham desires for kaveh’s betterment

I think my favorite thing about the Curious Cat is that while they’re this strange, very wise little dude who has at least enough power and/or respect in the Ever After that characters like the prince and the caterpillar to just listen to them, Curious Cat is also very much still a cat. 

They’re very knowledgeable about Ever After and seemingly even about Alyx. They can split themself apart, fly, teleport, etc., basically just defy physics on a whim. They will straight-up leave in the middle of a very important explanation to chase a bug and then climb on Ruby’s shoulder like she’s a tree. 

They can talk the incredibly hot-headed prince out of a meltdown in like 30 seconds flat and lead RWBY through a wacky path to escape the castle. They were literally just playing with one of the prince’s tear-marbles while he was sobbing on the floor 2 feet away.

They saved Ruby from the caterpillar’s smoke thing and gave the caterpillar some of their heart? I guess?? Which made the caterpillar immediately apologize and sink into the floor??? They would probably still meow-scream like they’re starving despite having half a bowl of food left and being able to phase through the cat food bag to get more at literally any moment

This is peak mysterious and wise animal guide, 12/10 amazing job

think my gripes with loveless is just everything post-goura

#pretty much every problem i have with characterization and plot can be summed up to loveless really really sucks and is not interesting #after volume 8 #save for moonless #but imagine how much better they could've been if loveless remained kind of good and intriguing #like after a certain point i see seimei's face and it's like. Ok. thanks #i don't think there are any real choices being made in the plot and characters after a certain point #it's just like. Yun kouga got bored and/or she genuinely doesn't know where loveless is supposed to go. probably both #i did like nisei's backstory chapters! the nisei and seimei stuff #and obviously the flashbacks at septimal moon/seven voices were very interesting! but a lot of it felt kind of tossed in! what with the #inconsistencies with nagisa's sister #lest we forget loveless just kinda started out as a self indulgent put everything i like into one manga thang #which media being like this is sometimes awesome To Me but comes with risks that are not so awesome #the thing with loveless is that it's good but majorly pretty bad. like really bad #i do love loveless though i think it's genius and the best manga of all time don't get it twisted #LOVELESSNATION

Thought for this afternoon: when the IDW comics with Surge & Kit finally get published in Japan, I'm wondering how they'll translate Kit's honorifics for Surge.

If they translate "Ma'am" to "Onee-san" it might kill me (like when little kids politely refer to someone older) or would he just refer to her as "Surge-san"/-sama" the whole time, which would also cause me emotional damage.

Similarly, would "Drippy" be left alone or given some other kind of rude pun.

See I have strong opinions about podcasts but almost all of them are based not in any reasonable metric of whether a work is well thought out or well produced or written in an interesting way but in my own personal preference. the reasons for which are obscure even to me.

i'm sure there's a numerological reason for this that they didn't cover in my medieval lit classes but i think 6 is known as the evil number because it's 3 (number of perfection) multiplied by 2 (least trustworthy, stable number), creating the mirror image of perfection. likewise 8 is the 2nd most evil number because it's the two worst numbers multiplied (2, see above; 4, traditional number of death). it's not as evil as 2 (base numerical evil) but more evil than 6 (still a multiple of the number of perfection). 7 can contain evil numbers but 7 is the most of-itself number on the number line so the evil cancels out. 5 isn't really evil but i hate it. it's a smug number, true neutral, so intensely boring that i'd say it's being boring out of spite but i don't think it has the gumption for spite. and 9 is the backbone of our society, no number has such beautiful multiples as 9. did you ever notice that the multiples of 9 from 1-10 are mirror images of each other? no one appreciates 9. eight-track tapes should have been nine-track tapes and i'll stand by that til my dying day.

Keith Scott’s book on voices in golden age cartoons is a must read and full of fascinating bits of information such as a “that’s all folks” being recorded for Porky not by Mel Blanc, not by Joe Dougherty, but Dougherty’s occasional stand in, the cartoon sound effect imitator aficionado and incredibly named Count Cutelli

obviously it was never used since Blanc stepped into the picture at the right time, but ‘tis a testament to the fact that the sort of questions you’d ask yourself at 1 in the morning and that keep yourself awake at night (which. despite my facetious wording, i am being shamefully anecdotal) are worth asking

#others blowing my mind are that sound man Bernard Brown actually voiced Bosko and Buddy and even some female characters too #or that Bob Clampett voices Sloppy Moe in Wagon Heels which his involvement doesn’t surprise me so much as actually hearing him talk rather #than make animal noises or sound effects #or that Frank Graham is actually the voice of Elmer in The Stupid Cupid with his delightfully horrible laugh rather than Mel Blanc #oh and that volume 2 has thousands of cartoons worth of voice credits #the fate of my review blog owes him so much now this is so insanely helpful and i’m already writing down the credits for cartoons i’m not #gonna be analyzing for years yet #definitely a must read
