hi! i'm sage. I'm glad you're here! just a few things:
i'm 32 – if you are a minor, please do not follow/interact. the content on this blog is intended for adults, and I assume everyone here is 18+
this blog is multi-fandom but I'm deep in my stranger things era right now and rapidly spiraling down the firefighter rabbit hole. i'm also in the middle of an ill-advised supernatural rewatch and the brainrot is unfortunately here to stay ✊😔
you can find my fandom writing on ao3 here and under the 'my fic' tag on this blog and in the masterlist under the read more. reblogs of other peoples' fic are tagged as 'fic', and writing resources etc are tagged as 'writing'.
i think that's everything. love you!!!!!!
fic masterlist 🩷
here you come again (16,172 words, rated E, stommy)
Steve and Tommy haven't talked in nearly three years. After everything, maybe the best way forward is back.
for the rest of mine (644 words, rated M)
It happens on a Tuesday night, with the soft whirl of the dishwasher running in the kitchen and ESPN on low in the background and Chris’s homework left laying out on the coffee table when he went to bed about an hour ago.
heart in throat (am i dreaming?) (1,227 words, rated T)
I kissed someone, he imagines himself saying eventually, when he’s ready. I think I really like him. Just like that. No big announcement, no declaration, but just – just letting it sit there and breathe between them.
already standing on the ground (1,195 words, rated T)
Buck lets out a laugh, one hand coming up to scratch at the back of his neck. Laughing like he’s relieved, like he can’t quite believe the words coming out of his own mouth. “We were on a date.” And – Eddie blinks. “Oh.”
current wips
the seas be ours (steddie pirates au) (2 works, 10,943 words, rated E)
Eddie The Dread Pirate Munson captures the Harrington heir with the intent of ransoming him back to his family for an easy payout. He really could not have guessed what he was getting himself into.
back in the new york groove (26,823 words, rated E) summer 1999 | tumblr post | ch 6/? rockstar eddie/middle school teacher steve, soft dom steve
“Ha!” Eddie says, jabbing a finger into Steve's chest. “I have a publicist. That automatically makes me cooler than you.” “Oh yeah? Well I have about eighty twelve year olds back in Santa Monica who think I’m the coolest guy on the planet.” (new york isn't home, but it's the next best thing) Steve and Eddie chaotically parenting their gen-z toddler in the late 90s (part of the future fic series)
future fic series (23 works, 64,995 words, rated G-E)
a love letter to the idea of home or, the happily-ever-after future in which Eddie is a rockstar and Steve is a middle school teacher and they have a bunch of kids and live by the ocean (rockstar eddie + middle school teacher steve)
a love to last past saturday night (3,550 words, rated T for now but will go up in later chapters) | ch 1/? coffee shop au
There’s a little cafe at the end of Steve’s block that he’s only ever been in once.  It’s called Corroded Coffee and it’s dark in there and maybe a little pretentious, but not pretentious as in… people reading classic novels or having discussions about French Cinema. Pretentious in the sense that there’s an intimidating collection of vinyl records taking up half an entire wall and they use single origin arabica beans and the scary baristas look at you sideways if you order regular milk in your latte.
complete/one shots
so fondly today (8,267 words, rated E, complete) processing trauma, getting together | tumblr post
Eddie's hair is pulled up on top of his head, and there’s a piece of it falling down to frame his face, and Steve’s sleep-deprived brain sends a shock of want rushing through him. Want: he wants to touch? Wants to look? He’s looking. Wants to… something? He feels electricity crackle at the backs of his teeth and he blinks, wanting. Wanting so badly that something aches inside his chest. (it's been a few months since everything, and steve is beginning to realize some things about himself)
get it off your chest (7,415 words, rated E, complete) rough sex, spanking, read the ao3 tags! | tumblr post
“You think this is me taking you apart?” Eddie asks. He lets go of Steve’s hair and plants a hand in the center of his chest, then gives him a shove toward the bed. “That’s adorable, Steve. Seriously.” (or, steve and eddie have life-affirmingly good sex) aka my Consent Is Sexy manifesto
dressed up to the eyes (8,737 words, rated E, complete) rough sex, spanking, read the ao3 tags! | tumblr post
Steve almost didn’t come out tonight. It’s been a long day, and he kind of just wants to be at home in his sweatpants, curled up on the couch with takeout and an old movie, but – But he’d agreed to be social tonight – if nothing else, in Robin’s honor since she was supposed to have a date tonight but is trapped in bed with the flu – and so… here he is. Being social. Ish. Socialish. Steve and Eddie are strangers in a bar... or are they?
something so pretty (3,087 words, rated M, complete) | tumblr post
Eddie raises Steve's hand to brush a kiss over his knuckles, then catches him around the waist again, swaying them back and forth to the rhythm of a Bangles song coming from the radio. “I said you look pretty, and I meant it. Deal with it.” Steve feels a reluctant smile pull at the corners of his mouth. “Really?” (the girls paint steve's nails and it causes him to feel several enormous feelings)
can't start a fire (3,831 words, rated T, complete) | tumblr post
“Are you sure this is okay?” Steve asks in an undertone once everyone has arrived that first night. He looks genuinely nervous, which is… insane; he’s a bat-wielding, bat-biting jock who saved the world, and Eddie’s just – “I don’t think your friends like me very much.” Eddie feels the corners of his mouth draw down as he follows Steve’s eyeline to where the others are huddled in the corner talking amongst themselves. (steve doesn't need people taking care of him. except, maybe he kind of likes it when they do)
the sweetest thing (14,022 words, rated E, complete)
It had started out simple enough between them, Eddie making some off-hand comment about Steve not being able to hold out for a whole month and Steve, ever unable to back down from a challenge, rising to the bait. “Whatever,” he’d said, rolling his eyes. “A month? Please.” He could do a month. Easy. He just hadn't counted on Eddie being – well. Himself. eddie goads steve into a No Nut November challenge; he never said anything about taking it easy on him

kill of the night (1,067 words, rated T, complete) fandom: crazyhead | tumblr post
“Do you remember the Hell Ball?” Raquel frowns, setting down her own slice. “You mean the one a few days ago where I almost got murdered and turned into a portal for demons to enter our mortal coil and take over the planet?” “Yeah,” Amy says. “That one.” “Then yeah,” Raquel says. “Guess I remember it.”

Summary:
A chance meeting—or is it a setup?—leads to the start of a relationship filled with buttery baked goods, sweet smelling flowers, and hedgehogs.~ 🌹🦔
Tumblr media
Draco tucked a loose strand of hair behind his ear and finally looked up from the canelé he’d just baked, a new pastry he was testing out to sell in his shop. “What?”
Harry had been staring at him for at least the past five minutes.
“Mm, just thinking.” He sat at the counter, head propped on a hand. “I’m kind of curious about your casanova side.”
Draco choked on absolutely nothing and took a large sip of tea that nearly burned his mouth, which led to him actually choking. “What— What the bloody hell are you on about?”
“Because,” said Harry, amused. “I feel like I’m missing out. I’m the only one you’ve dated who doesn’t know your suave, casanova side.” His eyes travelled down Draco’s face, lingering on his lips, then down his body and back up. “I bet they didn’t stand a chance.”
“I didn’t….” Draco mumbled.
“What? I didn’t quite catch that.”
Draco went back to fussing with his pastry, needing something to do with his hands to distract himself from the blood rushing to his face. “I didn’t date them,” he mumbled a little louder.
Harry blinked. “What?”
“I don’t really like…relationships,” said Draco. “They’re messy and far too much trouble than they’re worth, and I like my peace and quiet, thank you very much.”
“Then why’re you dating me?”
“Because you’re worth it, obviously,” huffed Draco. “Honestly, Potter, use your brain for once, will you? Do I have to spell everything out?” He hesitated and stared hard at his pastry. “But, um, I mean, I know I’m not very, er, suave or whatever it is you said, but I’m trying to, well, be better about, um, you know, so, um”—he accidentally jabbed a hole in the pastry—“your eyes, erm….” He trailed off in utter embarrassment, because why was it so hard for him to just give Harry a simple compliment instead of their usual snarky banter, and—
Harry surprised him with a slow, soft kiss—Draco didn’t know when Harry had got up and walked around the kitchen island behind him. He set down his wand as Harry hugged him closer and looped his arms around Harry’s neck, relishing the taste of strawberry lemonade on Harry’s tongue.
“I think it’s cute that you can’t compliment me,” murmured Harry with the softest smile that never failed to flip Draco’s stomach upside down. “And it’s an honour that you let me into your heart.”
Draco didn’t know why he teared up, but he did. He sniffled, blinking back his tears, as Harry carded his fingers through Draco’s hair and undid his loose braid. He brushed the most heartachingly tender kiss on Draco’s lips, a kiss that Draco deepened until all that could be heard throughout the kitchen was Draco’s small moans and Harry’s happy hums along with the soft sounds of their lips and tongues entangling.
Draco’s fingers dipped in the waist of Harry’s trousers.
“How about we take this to the bedroom?” suggested Draco, breathless.
Harry grinned and waggled his brows. “Oh? Is suave Draco making an appearance?”
“Shut up, Potter—”
“Mm, I do love the sound of my name on your lips,” murmured Harry as he groped Draco’s arse, already teasing the rim of his hole, still pliant from their last round. “Have I ever mentioned that I have a fantasy of fucking you so hard in this kitchen that you won’t be able to bake here without remembering my cock up your arse, my lips all over your body, my voice praising you for being so good—”
Draco whimpered as a violent shudder of pleasure jolted through his body.
“Salazar, Harry, just hurry up—”
“That’s more like it.”
(It became somewhat of a regular occurrence after this for Draco to end up getting fucked so good he begged for more when baking in his flat’s kitchen.)

Working Bibliography
This is a (currently incomplete) inventory of the sources I'm pulling from when researching material for Counter/Feint. It will be divided into three sections: General References (for things like sewage treatment, state laws, tax codes, white collar crime, etc), Original Media (for comics, episodes, movies etc), and In-Line References/Allusions (for when a character's narration makes a literary allusion, uses jargon, or directly quotes a line from part of the source material)
some of them will be in MLA format and some won't because i am prone to arbitrary whims

Original Media
Superman: The Animated Series- "World's Finest" - This one started the whole exercise because I thought it was hysterical that Lois had dated Bruce/ found out he was Batman WAY before she learnt anything about Superman's identity. Hilarious.
Superman: TAS- "The Late Mr. Kent"- This one's important to me and my characterization of Clark for about one million separate reasons
Batman: TAS- All of it
Batman #177- notable for Bruce Wayne's love of cubist expressionism and also the character of Roy Rennie who shows up here and never again. He wants to be the Alfred Foundation's publicist so, so, so bad. I have realized his dream
chapter 2 edit: this is also where the Lathrop Gallery comes from! In the comics, the Lathrop Gallery received an endowment from the Alfred foundation
Fraction, Matt, et al. Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen: Who Killed Jimmy Olsen? DC Comics, 2020.- This is in MLA again because it's physically in front of me. It has a profound impact on my characterization, especially Lois's. Her disdain for conspiracy theories and insistence on using the term 'sociogram' over 'conspiracy board' comes from this. It's also the origin of Janie Olsen
Superboy (1949)- I think it's funny to pick and choose elements from this and incorporate it into Clark's backstory arbitrarily. I also think it's funny that I first wrote the line about Clark wanting to kiss Superman if he hadn't BEEN superman before i started reading Superboy because guess what. He forgets he's superboy constantly. and what does he immediately do. Start sighing over superboy. I am SO good at comics
Superboy #85- Especially notable for the appearance of Mightyboy! "Who is Mightyboy?" you might ask. As well you should, since he appeared once in 1960 and never again. However!!!! This is a surprise tool which will help us later because he lives in my brain and also Clark's backstory
World's Finest #285-288- There's just. A lot to unpack here. But I sure have incorporated it into characterization and quirks! Still undecided on if I want Clark to have super hypnosis or not because I think it would be characterful for him to have it and not use it. and also it's extremely stupid as a concept and i love stupid. but also i hate hypnosis
World's Finest #84- Spoiler for the fic, but this premise was so hilarious to me that I immediately decided to replicate it, but with a twist that is typical of my ethos: making bruce step directly onto a rake
Ironically enough, a similar story was presented in Adventure Comics #275, but again. It does not make Bruce step on enough rakes for my taste. Still works as inspiration though!
Superman Annual #11- For the man who has everything. I love this one so so so so much. It greatly informs my understanding and portrayal of Superman, but also it's just a really tight narrative. Also!!! Jason Robin is there!!! Every day I regret placing this fic on a timeline that doesn't align with Jason making an appearance. Lad of all time.
Also important from Superman Annual #11 is the imagery of Batman pathetically presenting a designer rose he had commissioned special for his boy bestie, only for it to be crushed underfoot in the wake of a battle. now there's some symbolism. there's some pathos. there's some grade a pathetic bruce-isms.
Yang, Gene Luen, and Janice Chiang. Superman Smashes the Klan: The Graphic Novel. DC Comics, 2020. - Absolutely phenomenal work that digs into the diaspora elements of Superman's narrative and grapples with The American Ideal, racism, and what it means to stand for your community against violent bigotry. Also the art is soooo charming. I reference this one a bunch because I love it. It's got everything I love about Superman
There's way more to add but I'm tired and this is a working bibliography. I promise more will come
In-Line References/Allusions
Because comics are the way they are, I wanted to make this fic feel like it existed in a bunch of overlapping time periods all at once.
This means that instead of refraining from making references to broader pop culture like I do with other fics, I'm leaning into them instead. Therefore, some of these are going to be deliberate references that I thought would be characterful. Especially since Lois and Clark are reporters, and Jimmy and Bruce went to fancy schools for fancy little lads
"You're killing me, Smalls"- A famous line from The Sandlot (1993). I am unable to resist the pull of low-hanging fruit
"he could always depend on the kindness of strangers"- semi-ironic deployment of a line from A Streetcar Named Desire. on one hand, Clark genuinely trusts in and relies on mankind's desire to do right by each other. on the other, he thinks bruce wayne is a complete and utter tool here. he's being a bit tongue in cheek about how he's relying on a jackass to help him out
"the pale blue light of a sympathetic moon" is from The Drowsy Chaperone. It's such an evocative phrase. I think Clark would enjoy musicals
"Saint Laurent"- Listen. I read fashion blogs for this. I asked my friends who lose their minds over fashion on the regular. I looked through ready to wear collections and slide shows. And while I want to have faith in the Bruce Wayne that lives in my head and nowhere else, I understand that the search for an ethical designer label is a fruitless one. All I can do is say "in this universe, YSL was never acquired by Gucci, and yet it still, inexpicably, has the insufferable ready to wear collection that includes the ugly fucking gentrified rodeo wear."
also a lot of the outfits look like they're designed for haunted little victorian boys. which. [gestures at him]
"Dorothy [...] you're not in Kansas anymore"- I think this one's obvious, but it's a Wizard of Oz reference
“Is there a ‘c’ in ‘absence’?”- Lois's habit of frequently misspelling words comes up in a lot of adaptations and runs, and I think it's incredibly charming
"There better be a thirty on your buyback piece!"- Traditionally, -30- marks the end of copy that's been submitted for editing
Backfielding- Another term for conducting line edits
Ron Troupe- Political analyst for the daily planet. In comics, he was introduced RIGHT before Superman died but I'm playing calvinball here and I like him :) so
Adam Grant- Cat's son! I'm not killing him off, unlike the comics. There's a lot re: The Toyman where i'm just. y'know. i'm just not gonna. look. at whatever's going on there. So it goes with comics
"the gentle way the strongman had spoken to him, telling him about the disarming power of a silly costume, the way performance became its own kind of strength"- referencing a sequence from Superman Smashes the Klan. This will not be the last time
Lan-Shin Lee- For instance, Lan-Shin is from Superman Smashes the Klan! At the end of the original work, she becomes a cub reporter
Carmine Falcone- I still have never read a frank miller comic and you can't make me. but i will steal the occasional character. for flavor. anyway he's either one of the biggest or the biggest ringleader of organized crime in Gotham, depending on the run and adaptation
“While discontinuous in action, perceived surveillance—”- Bruce is paraphrasing a bit of Discipline & Punish here, specifically the part about panopticism
“Have you tried committing a felony?”- This line comes directly from the World's Finest episodes of Superman: the animated series that first inspired this fic
Superman Signal Watch- this one's a classic. As seen in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen, the watch works just as the fic describes

So Luffy’s fire attack here is called Red Hawk, right? That’s what the katakana pronunciation calls it.
The kanji, however, are 火拳銃/hiken-juu. Fire Fist Pistol.
This attack is named after Ace.

Tuesday, 28th December (Holy Innocents’ Day): The necessary penance of communication
Read and comment on WordPress
Read: Vol. 1, ch. 17; pp. 92–93 (“She went to Mrs. Goddard’s accordingly” through to “to drive Mr. Elton from her thoughts”).
Context
Mr. Elton leaves Highbury. Emma visits Harriet at Mrs. Goddard’s and tells her that Mr. Elton has proposed to her. Some time later, Emma brings Harriet to Hartfield.
The fact that this occurs the day after the weather has “improved enough for those to move who must move” (vol. 1, ch. 17; p. 91) may indicate some delay on Emma’s part. Perhaps she felt obliged to see her sister and brother off, or to soothe Mr. Woodhouse’s weather-related worries.
Jo Modert points out that Emma’s lauding of Harriet’s disingenuousness “[a]ppropriately” falls on Innocents’ Day, which commemorates Herod the Great’s purported ordered massacre of all male children two years old or younger in Bethlehem (p. 57).
Readings and Interpretations
Standing on Ceremony
Mr. Elton sends to Mr. Woodhouse a “long, civil, ceremonious note” with the news that he is away to Bath, and without any mention of Emma. U.C. Knoepflmacher, arguing that letter-writing reveals character in Emma, notes the “disproportion between the actual purpose of Mr. Elton’s note and its convoluted verbiage,” in contrast to “Robert Martin’s straightforwardness as letter-writer and lover”: “The intentional, ungentlemanly slight [of excluding Emma’s name] painfully sharpens Emma’s awareness of the ill-breeding that lurked beneath the ‘agreeable’ manners she had extolled” (pp. 644–5).
Some critics blame Mr. Woodhouse for not recognizing the slight to his daughter. Per Roger Sales, “Mr Woodhouse is shown […] to be unable to read letters which have a bearing on the happiness of his daughter. Instead of being concerned about the snub to Emma, he merely uses the note as an excuse to talk about his own concerns” (p. 166).1
So Truly Artless
In the renewed fit of contrition engendered by the necessity of communicating the news of Mr. Elton’s proposal, Emma is touched by Harriet’s apparent “ingenuousness of disposition and lowly opinion of herself”; she “was in the humour to value simplicity and modesty to the utmost; and all that was amiable, all that ought to be attaching, seemed on Harriet’s side, not her own” (vol. 1, ch. 17; p. 92). Bernard Paris notes that Jane Austen not infrequently creates characters with Harriet’s sort of disposition, and that, in Emma, “Miss Bates, Isabella, Mr. Woodhouse, Mr. and Mrs. Weston, and Harriet Smith all display one or more of the distinguishing traits of the self-effacing personality.” He argues, however, that Emma’s admiration is dual-edged:
Jane Austen has a complicated attitude towards these simple self-effacing types. Their ingenuousness allures her as the opposite of worldly cynicism and selfish calculation. She admires their tender-heartedness, amiability, and freedom from conceit. […] Her complex mixed characters often feel inferior or guilty before them. […] Emma is convinced for a while that Harriet is superior to herself “and that to resemble her would be more for her own welfare or happiness than all that genius or intelligence could do” (I, xvii). […]
The chief deficiency of these people is that they are, after all, unconscious. They do not really understand themselves or others, and they lack discrimination. […] They are more fitted for suffering or obedience than for self-assertion or the exercise of authority. […] Austen always treats these characters kindly, but many of them are humors at whom she is also laughing and for whom she cannot help feeling a touch of contempt. (pp. 190–1)
Similarly, James Kissane argues that the novel itself does not have much admiration for Harriet’s temperament: rather, it compares Emma and Harriet in order to
reveal[] the heroine’s essential superiority […] despite certain ‘conventional’ inferiorities. […] When Emma herself, in a fit of chagrin, becomes momentarily “convinced that Harriet was the superior creature of the two,” the author makes short work of such foolishness: “It was rather too late in the day to set about being simple minded and ignorant.” In Harriet, Jane Austen ridicules that “heroism of sentiment” she pointedly asserts that Emma lacks. (pp. 176-7)
Brian Wilkie also attributes the “too late in the day” comment to “Emma and the narrator” (p. 540, emphasis mine).
Roger Gard, however, does not ascribe authorial sanction to this last comment, rather taking it as evidence that Emma is still partly in the fog of a self-delusion: “It is […] mental alacrity in the midst of blindness that, in sensitive retrospective analysis, recognises […] that ‘the first error and the worst lay at her door’ [vol. 1, ch. 16; p. 89], but, beautifully, ‘It was rather too late in the day to set about being simple-minded and ignorant’” (p. 177).
This, then, is one of many instances in which attributing a comment either to the narrator or to Emma’s monitored thought (that is, free indirect discourse) changes one’s reading of theme or character. Per Rachel Oberman. “It is in the very moments when we are unsure, at first reading, whose voice we are hearing that the narrator reveals subtle but important distinctions about the way we are to feel about a given character, and about the way that character feels about herself” (p. 3).2
Imaginative Repression
We learn that Emma leaves Harriet “with every previous resolution confirmed of being humble and discreet, and repressing imagination all the rest of her life” (vol. 1, ch. 17; p. 92). Of course no one is convinced by this proclamation. Scholars note that this resolution will inevitably fail, but differ as to how serious the text is in putting it forward as a desirable one.
Sarah Emsley, in an analysis of virtue and ethics in Austen, writes that
[Emma’s] repentance is genuine, and the turn to humility is part of the traditional response of the contrite sinner following confession […]. The person confessing prays to be granted “that this day we fall into no sin […],” all the while knowing that the fallen nature common to all will mean that each day we fall into some kind of sin. The prayer is part of the process. Emma repents, knowing that she will not be able to avoid being wrong about something else yet again. (p. 141)
Andrew McInnes expresses similar doubt towards Emma’s the outcome of resolution, but further notes that the failure of the resolution is what creates pleasure and interest in a novel that is “sceptical […] of the ability of reason to rein in the imagination”:
Austen makes Emma’s lack of submission to industry and patience (and Mr Knightley), and the supremacy of her fancy over both her understanding and the understandings of others, the impetus driving the plot of the novel and one of the lasting pleasures of the text. After Emma’s plans to match Harriet with Mr Elton have spectacularly backfired, Emma resolves to become ‘humble and discrete . . . repressing imagination all the rest of her life’. Fortunately for her and for us this resolution proves unlikely, as Emma acknowledges in her pointedly double-edged lamentation: ‘It was rather too late in the day to set about being single-minded and ignorant’. Emma’s attempts to chastise herself and discipline her imagination are doomed to failure. Moreover, Austen suggests that this is a problem which bedevils the relationship between fancy, reason and imagination […]. (p. 79)
Brian Wilkie likewise assumes that the text is not wholly morally committed to Emma’s resolution:
What Emma is to repress henceforth is not so much misbehavior as “imagination,” which is hardly turpitude even by the unromantic standards often ascribed to Jane Austen. Indeed, to imagine an Emma, even a “reformed” one, deprived of imagination is to imagine her out of existence. In any case, this deadpan intrusion of mock-levelheadedness, in amused mockery of Emma’s contrition, is one of the most effective of Jane Austen’s patented, morally unsettling changes of pace. (p. 540)
Indeed, imagination is required in order to conceptualize its own error and its own future suppression. Here as elsewhere, Emma’s virtues are closely connected to her faults; it is difficult to imagine a mind that is not “so active, supple, suggestible, rapid” as Emma’s being so quick to recognize her error and so “quick to blame herself” (McMaster, pp. 31, 32).
Footnotes
See also Jenkyns (pp. 159–60).
Incidentally, Oberman reads this comment as one without authorial sanction: “When this passage [from ‘It was rather too late’ to ‘all the rest of her life’; vol. 1, ch. 17; p. 92] is read as narrative statement, there is an ugly harshness in Emma’s opening thoughts […] but, seen as part of Emma’s narrated monologue, it forms a comic beginning to Emma’s attempt at self-reform” (p. 3). On this passage see also Sabiston (p. 36) and Stovel (n.p.), who argue that it indicates Emma’s real contempt for Harriet.
Discussion Questions
What can we tell of Mr. Woodhouse from the fact that he does not recognize the insult in Mr. Elton’s letter? Alternately, what can we tell of Emma from the fact that she expects him to?
What does this section, or the text of Emma thus far, suggest about the relationship between perception, imagination, and reality?
How do we feel about Harriet at this point in the text?

Perfect- Chapter 4
masterlist | ch. 3 | ch. 5
Word Count: 644 words
POV: Spencer has his suspicions about you. Will him and Garcia find anything?
(This chapter is in y/n perspective)
Reid approaches Garcia and blurts out “Hey can I ask you something?”
“Yes of course boy genius speaking of which you got schooled today!”
“I don’t wanna talk about it. Anyways promise to keep this a secret?”
“Promise.”
“Garcia?” he scolds.
“Fine, I won’t even tell Morgan.”
“Good. So I think this newbie has a secret, they were perfect on their first day, they got into the FBI first try, they have a higher IQ, all of this seems fishy to me.”
“Wait are you… jealous?”
“WHAT? No, never!” Reid says nervously,
“Could you just maybe do a deeper dive on y/n there’s gotta be something we’re missing here.”
“Hmm okay I’ll see what I can do for you I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.”
“Okay thank you so much Garcia and remember this is a secret between us, not even Derek can know.”
“I know I know it’s getting late. I'll work on it first thing tomorrow morning, goodnight!”
“Night Garcia,” Reid says as he walks away making sure no one else was around to hear.
*You quickly hide behind a wall so Reid doesn’t see you.*
Phew, that was close. He’s onto me, they can’t find out my secret. I spent years hiding everything and creating a new identity. I need to complete my mission, I said I would. They told me not to give away any personal details and I didn’t. Everything is hidden there's no way they’ll find anything. I need to follow Garcia's home just in case she decides to dig into me tonight. I need to be one step ahead of them, always.
*You hear Garcia grab her stuff and leave, you follow*
Okay I have a clear view of her and the bugs I put in place a few months ago are still there I knew that would come in handy.
*You hear something happen*
It’s Garcia she’s talking to herself what is she saying?
“Okay, Garcia you can do this just look through every nook and cranny no one is better than you. Let's see here y/n, wait what's this another identity? Jordan Sawyer? Who are you?”
you overhear Garcia say while eavesdropping on her. Oh no… she found me but how? They said everything was hidden, they said I was safe? A-am I being set up? No no no this can’t be happening. I still need to destroy them.
*You continue to listen in on Garcia to see what else she finds out*
My parents? They’re alive? I thought they got rid of them? No that must be wrong they wouldn’t lie to me like that. Ugh, what have I gotten myself into? All because I said I had a better IQ how could I be so stupid. No. I need to get a hold of myself. My parents are dead, I watched them die. I’m safe, there's no evidence of what I did, the judge said so themselves. They got rid of all evidence so now I need to pay them back, I’m on the good side here. Who is she calling? REID? NO! She can’t tell him! That’ll ruin everything!
*You wait for Reid to get to Garcias to listen in on their conversation*
Please don’t tell him everything…
“Well for starters their real name is Jordan Sawyer, they went to Shaw University which doesn’t even have any classes to become an FBI agent, they almost failed all of their tests and barely got into college, their parents are alive and live in North Carolina not New Jersey and well…”
*Garcia shows Reid her computer screen*
“There’s this…”
“Oh my God, this is why you were freaking out… we need to tell Hotch Garcia like NOW.”
annnnd now Reid knows. Great. I ruined my mission they’re going to expose me to Hotch and the rest of the team. Unless…
