I really, really wish you could recruit Seteth in a Crimson Flowers route-
Like. At the point where you spare him, when the writing on the wall is clear, he strikes a deal (assuming Flayn is still alive) that he'll fight by your side as long as you let Flayn get as far away as possible from the fighting. (Maybe even have 'sparing Claude' as a requirement, you call on his favour to send her to Almyra under the protection of their prince.)
Meanwhile Seteth has the ulterior motive of trying to negotiate a terms of surrender for Rhea... Only to slowly come to terms with the fact that, in Crimson Flowers, his sister has Absolutely Lost It(tm), and won't take any 'surrender' short of tearing out Byleth's heart, and El's head-
Give him some unique, CF only varients on his Supports, let someone who genuinely cares for Rhea side against her and challenge El's stances, let him call out Hubie on not standing up to El and just quietly cleaning up after her from the shadows (in a way that is definitely not him projecting as he watches his sister go insane to a degree that seals her own fate from him similarly not challenging her as much as he should've), give him an angsty ass unique interaction where he pleads with Rhea to see that she can't win against El and Byleth, but she can survive, but she doesn't even care about her own survival at this point she just wants those two dead-
I just think it would be neat.

It's funny in hindsight to realise Cat was completely overlooked because she BaD bcs she lufs the Evil Lizard Lady and berns a city when ordered too bcs she religious extremist or whatnot -
When you look at her supports in Houses she's a complex character who, when faced between two difficult choices, picked one and wants to make sure it was the right choice so she follows the evil lizard lady to the depths of Tru Piss and brings more of this so beloved "realism" to the table - which leads the token dumb idiot obsessed with "justice" to think about what and who he is using his fists for* (something he ignores on in Nopes and Tru Piss) - despite her presentation of being, well, a token brash idiot too.
But comes Nopes, and while the game leans even more on the "brash idiot" angle, we get this :
When I was a kid, I never imagined I'd be wielding some holy relic as a Knight of Seiros. I thought my destiny was to follow in my father's footsteps and become the next Count Charon.
Faerghus is very sexist and the land of toxic masculinity, Cat expected to become the next Count Charon, aka, the leader of one of the Kingdom's most important Houses.
Meanwhile, the very same game tells us that the Southern Church Rebellion started because a Lady Varley wanted to become Minister rather than a potted plant for her crestless husband. Huh.
*Funny how the entire schtick "but X kills children!" is adressed in the Capsar/Catherine support - and it all comes down to circumstances, Cat praises Caspar for having ideals, but when it comes to a situation where Caspar will have to chose between a life or a death ? Caspar's reply is to basically continue fighting for what he thinks is "just" or what feels "right" to him -
And given how you can unlock this support in SS (where both units are here by default!) this support gets a conclusion when we have to fight crazed!Rhea : both Cat and Caspar feel like dirt, and yet pull through, Cat even rationalising this crap battle as "ending Rhea's suffering".

Permission to ask about your favourite three houses ships?
Absolutely! My absolute favorite ship from Fire Emblem Three Houses/Hopes is Claude x Lorenz. I know a lot of people hate Lorenz, but I love him, and if you put in the work, his supports with Claude are just everything. They really seemed to lean into it for Three Hopes too. I mean just look at them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LIKE?!?!?! How can they have this much chemistry and not get married?!?!? I didn't originally ship them, but there's some excellent fanart and once I started thinking about it, it felt so obvious and now it's my OTP.
But I have other ships! My other favorites are Dimitri x male Byleth, Caspar x Lindhart, female Byleth x Mercedes, Rhea x Catherine, Catherine x Shamir, Shez x Arval. And this might sound weird but I also ship Hilda x Dedue (because I wrote a fanfic once where Claude and the golden deer teamed up with Dimitri and saved him before the time skip and Hilda wound up harboring Dimitri and Dedue in her house secretly and me and the person I was writing with wound up loving the dynamic we created for her and Dedue,) and Felix x Holst but not as he is in Three Hopes (because that same fanfic was written prior to the release of Three Hopes so I'd invented my own version of Holst and he and Felix hit it off.)
Also I casually like the ship between Dimitri and Sylvain, Caspar and Ashe, Caspar and Ferdinand, Dorothea and female Byleth, and Leonie and Seteth.
So yeah, very few of them have supports where they wind up officially married, but I love them all the same. Also almost everyone in this game is queer and the only reason why only like four of them are canonical is because the writers are cowards.

Intermission I: Festival
Occasionally in my stories there will be chapters called intermissions, where the focus will be on interactions between characters and are used to move the story along, as to not linger too long at a certain point. As a rule, intermissions hold no plot points, but that doesn't mean that the points brought up won't be touched upon later. Essentially, these can be seen as filler. Intermissions are formatted like headcanons for the sake of efficiency.
Hilda x Marianne ship hinted at
Childe and Tartaglia used interchangeably
Not proofread
Tumblr media
• Once Xinyan started playing, everyone was in awe. You had tried to explain rock to them before but could never find the right words, and it was made abundantly clear why from this performance.
• Hu Tao spent a great deal of time listening to Mercedes's ghost stories, enamored by the feeling of a chill running down her spine from words alone.
• Xiangling was having the time of her life. Not only was Raphael willing to taste test almost anything, but Dedue was more than willing to share some Duscur recipes.
• Ashe and Xingqiu hit it off almost immediately. How could they not while they both hold a burning passion for literature, chivalry, and justice? They've both commented on how the other seems like a hero from a story they read, one of noble birth and one of humble origins.
• You already know but I'm going to say it anyway. Felix and Childe got into a fight. It was actually closer than you'd think, Childe still won but he was so impressed that someone without a vision could do so well against him. Offered to be Felix's sparring partner again in the future.
• Beidou, Catherine, Jeralt, and Alois are now drinking buddies.
• You shared your reward money with the others, not having much use for the sheer amount and also knowing you wouldn't regret it as Ningguang has already discussed a meeting schedule with Alfonse and Sharena to discuss a currency exchange rate.
• Dorothea, Manuela, and Yun Jin discuss how operas of their respective worlds differ, the two divas hoping to give the current opera singer any pointers they can. She likely doesn't need any, but she's so curious that she wouldn't say that out loud.
• Hilda, finally having some mora thanks to you, decided to try on some fancy Liyue dresses, and Hilda's fashion choice combined with Liyue's style of clothing left Marianne a blushing, stuttering mess.
• Ferdinand was enthralled by Teyvat's many weapons. Even just the polearms had a variety of designs and it sparked his collector's flame, and when he heard some people had signature weapons unique to them, without being sacred artifacts or heirlooms, he wanted to explore all of Teyvat at that point just to see these weapons.
• Seteth, Flayn, and Rhea were interested in Liyue's religion and history, but not wanting a glorified children's tale they asked around and were led to Ganyu, who was surprised but thrilled that someone outside of Liyue's devoted was so interested in its history to the point of wanting the facts without the fluff.
• If you thought Shamir and Yelan would get along, you were wrong. They don't hate each other, but Yelan can't stand how blunt and work focused Shamir is. It's more of a one-sided thing as Shamir actually doesn't mind Yelan's "outgoing" attitude. (I had to close the game because I was not expecting this woman to whisper in my/Aether's ear during the last Lantern Rite event.) However, they both have mutual respect for each other's efficiency. Their interaction was brief, so they didn't really get to know each other.
• Dimitri, Edelgard, and Yuri wished not to offend any Liyue citizens and to not be cheated like the tourists they are, leading them to Yanfei, who was more than willing to teach someone about Liyue's laws and how to avoid scam artists.
• Claude wants to learn about Liyue's culture. Being the idealist that he is, he hopes it'll help him find a way to convince Almyra and Fodlan to stop fighting. This leads him to ask around, starting conversations with countless familiar faces.
• The two Byleths were keen to bring Sothis to a food stall, as the goddess has only recently attained a physical form thanks to being summoned. The two were met with a fist to the gut each after commenting on how cute she looked while eating.
• Arval, being in a similar position as Sothis, is also accompanied by the two Shez's. However, they seem more interested in physical activity like dancing or making their own lantern.
• Hubert, while keeping an eye on Edelgard from the shadows, was scared half to death when he realized he was being watched by a masked spearman. While their face was covered, he could feel a glare that threatened to pierce his entire being. Truly, none can escape the eye of The Vigilant Yaksha.
• Lorenz could be found trading poems with Xingqiu or Hu Tao.
• Jeritza was accompanying Mercedes and was practically being harassed by Tartaglia's requests to spar after hearing about him from Felix.
• The Traveler and Paimon met Constance and Hapi. They were kind of put off by Hapi's seemingly uncaring tone, but it was cute how her tone would shift when talking about her Coco. Constance was bosting about house Nuvelle as usual. When the two groups parted, Paimon couldn't help but comment on how familiar Constance's behavior was, but she couldn't explain why.
• Ingrid had lost sight of Sylvain, and when she found him, he was talking to Shenhe. Assuming the usual was taking place, she grabs Sylvain by the ear, apologizes, and drags him off, leaving Shenhe confused, as they were just talking about flowers.
• Monica is attached to Edelgard at the hip, constantly trying to get her to wear some accessories she thought would look nice on her.
• Bernadetta, still on the boat, decides to paint the harbor as the lanterns lit up the city enough for her to see it, and her window gave her the perfect view.
• Linhardt tried getting books from Wanwen bookhouse, but he couldn't tell fact from fiction, as in he couldn't read Teyvat's writing. Due to language not being a topic of interest for him, he gives up.
• Caspar and Ignatz had left the city. Caspar had too much energy to stay in the harbor, and Ignatz wanted to paint Liyue from a good angle. Both had a chance encounter with Kazuha, who complimented their respective qualities.
• Balthus had told everyone about Genius Invokation and suggested it to them as well
_______________________________________
If someone is absent from this, it means I couldn't think of anything involving them. My knowledge of certain characters is limited( I had to dig for Lorenz's poetry bit. ). Also, I know Yelan isn't really like that, but I put that in because I thought it might get a chuckle out of some people.

SS is done.
The most standout part: I got the Rhea S rank. It was good. I support it, but I wish there was a gen version and also that it was available on VW. My general impression is that VW actually gives you more chances to ask after and worry for Rhea (plus Claude is a rather meh romance option), so it would be great if I could get with her there too.
In general, I wish VW and SS were just one route. Both have some nice small details, but given how similar they are, I feel like you'd get a better experience if they were just combined.
Checking my VW endgame notes, it seems VW gives you info dump about Agartha, which definitely feels missing in SS, and SS gives you a bit more detail about Byleth's deal from Rhea, which adds some nice details on the Rhea relationship front. Seriously, they should have just combined them.
(Hilariously, Catherine's endcard outright contradicts the paired Rhea one. They are incompatible, but I got both. Additionally, Ingrid's card seems to be written for Crimson Flower, since it mentions Galatea being "seized" and Ingrid needing to push strongly to be allowed to govern it, which comes across weirdly as a post-war in the Byleth-led United Kingdom, especially since the other Lions kids I recruited all got their lord positions without any apparent fuss.)
Overall, not much else to say about SS. Final take: SS and VW are really obviously the same route, but even though SS was supposedly written first, VW feels marginally better in its focus and I enjoyed it more. However, the Rhea stuff specifically is good, and I wish I could get it on VW. Yup.
Final save file time: 95:19. Minus the VW playthrough, it's 44:07, so a bit faster. Specifically post-route split, it's 20:16, so it seems like the part that I finished faster was actually just Academy phase, possibly because I just didn't care much for the BE kids.
Liveblogging notes:
Looking closely at the battle selection screen, it seems Shambhala is at the very eastern tip of the Empire. There's a bit of mountain that stretches down from the Throat across Airmid River, and it seems to be there.
Narration calls it a "sprawling underground city."
Thales was kind of a chump!
Ah, I just realized I forgot to check his X description blurbs. They probably weren't too interesting tho.
The Agarthans are super mad about living underground and not having "light." Thales also name drops Agartha in his battle line vs Seteth and in the cutscene afterwards. Aside from their ability description, I think this is probably the first time their proper name is mentioned. But we uh, don't seem to discuss this much?
Small scene with Nemesis's coffin is missing, I think. Well, obviously because he's not the final boss now. iirc the scene immediately after the month change, with everyone freaking out over Rhea is new instead. It's a little weird because iirc VW gives you more opportunities to express concern for her. Here, the Rhea focus feels a bit less supported.
Seteth didn't realize you already knew that Rhea is the Immaculate One (which you did, btw).
Seteth "long ago" lost the power to change form, but "it seems" Rhea has not. My dude, did you not know... He does confirm that he's also a child of the goddess, which Rhea keeps hidden in VW. Flayn is also counted as one of the children of the goddess, even though she's more like a grandchild. It's a general term for dragons.
Seteth and Flayn press Byleth about taking over as the leader of Fodlan in some capacity, now that Rhea's future is uncertain.
We find the Sword and Bow of Zoltan in Shambhala. I was wondering about whether these things existed, since Zoltan is a dude that got namedropped in a small quest item description a while back. I also have an Axe of Zoltan though I can't remember exactly where I picked it up. No spear?
Just noting that you use Arcane Crystals to repair magical weapons like the Bolt Axe, Mythril to repair sacred weapons like Cichol's Spear of Assal, and Umbral Steel for relics. Mythril is also used on forging the rusted weapons that require A+ professor rank. iirc they're legendary weapons from other games or something like that. Smithing Stones are for normal weapons of all rarities.
On VW, this month was about Nemesis appearing and us going to fight him, but here on SS, that doesn't happen, so the explore dialogue is all about Seteth telling us that we should become the new Ruler of Fodlan and us taking the month to think about it. Everyone around the monastery comments on this, how we should think about it carefully, how they believe in us, how they're thinking about the future, etc. It's... hm. I think it's okay, but it really highlights how much Byleth has not been setup for this role At All.
They're a mercenary who became a teacher via nepotism and while we do things in the story that you could probably read as proof of Byleth's ability to lead, they don't really feel that way, especially since Seteth can end up spending half the war refusing what we suggest. Byleth is also just... not a real character. So them becoming the big deal leader is kinda... yeah.
Anyway, I accidentally ended the month early. But whatever.
Before you tell Rhea your "decision," she gives you exposition about how she made you and Sothis's crest stone is in you. She wanted to see Sothis again and thought she could regain everything she had lost.
Sitri was Rhea's 12th attempt. She "grew up" without Sothis's consciousness and fell in love with Jeralt. But when she gave birth, the child was not breathing and she herself was also "in grave danger." Sitri told Rhea to take the crest stone from her and put it into her baby. Otherwise, both would have died.
Byleth is suggested to be able to house Sothis's consciousness because they have both the crest stone and a body born from a parent with Rhea's blood.
Rhea is aware that Sothis gave you her power and disappeared, which means Rhea's dearest wish did not come true, but she's accepting of that. She basically entrusts Fodlan and the future to you.
And she just flips out in the middle of that.
"White Beasts" appear all over the monastery. They are from priests and knights that Rhea shared her blood and "stones" with. Tho given how JP plurals work, it's impossible to tell if Rhea is meant to have one crest stone or several. Demonic Beasts also run in??
Enemies are Frenzied Church Soldiers with minor crests of Seiros, Altered Golems, White Beasts (cardinal that has transformed and gone mad due to the rage of the Immaculate One) with Blest Crest Stone Shards (bestowed by a saint and wielded as a weapon), and the Immaculate One herself. She has a crest stone of Serios, can recover HP when near a White Beast and is described as having been driven to an uncontrollable anger due to the power of the goddess.
This battle was annoying because of the Classic setting. The whole business with Rhea having a private army of people whom she shared blood with is, hm. But I get the feeling this was done purely to explain her battle having the same mechanics as with Nemesis and the 10 Elites. It's... an interesting tidbit that these cardinals and such exist, but kinda weird that the crest of Seiros is actually this common, especially since they can ALL presumably pass it down to their kids, and I would expect Rhea had done this for more than just one generation.
(funny concept: after a thousand years of Rhea just sharing her blood all over, a good three quarters of Fodlan has some Seiros crest blood and it manifests pretty much at random in people all over.)
Anyway, final blow by Flayn.
OK, enough screwing around. tbh I do like Rhea, so there's some emotional resonance in everyone being very worried about her and having little voicelines about how they want to pay back the debts they owe to her, and her sadness and suffering and all that. It's not the worst.
She mistakes Byleth for Sothis when collapsing in the cathedral.
They did make a mistake: Rhea transforms in her dressing gown without the mantle or headpiece, but she changes back in full archbishop regalia.
The post-battle exposition exposition is kinda... ah yes, all nations in Fodlan are gone, but you see the Church is leading people toward a new... nation? How does this work. Sorry, but I don't see a religious government (??) as a good thing.
Rhea says she had a vision of flying free and speaking with Sothis while near death. She's happy she survived... so am I.
Rhea's wish was for peace, but she admits fault in propagating a false history and deceiving the faithful. And she did a bit of forbidden experimentation on the side, obvs. We forgive her tho.
I wish there was a gen way to save her, without the romance. It's such a good coda, honestly, without the marriage.
I wish Byleth was a more concrete character. Not necessarily a super detailed one, but with at least some grounding traits.
Still, Rhea romance scene is pretty good. WAY better than Flayn. Why can't I do this on VW..........
Endings: Ashe takes over Gaspard as the new lord. Galatea was "seized" what the heck, though Ingrid did rule it. Felix still ended up Duke Fraldarius. Sylvain talked his way into peace with Sreng, good on him. Lindhart "escaped the Empire" but went missing. Dorothea fled with her troupe to a secret location. Petra went to Brigit. Caspar fell on a battlefield. Bernadetta because seriously ill and lived as a recluse. Ferdinand returned to his territory but went missing. Catherine became Guardian of Zanado, but why was she shaking up with MY wife in solitude? Because in the ending card with Byleth, Rhea is still archbishop and assists the leader of the new "United Kingdom of Fodlan." Shamir became Robin Hood. Alois became captain of the knights. Seteth became very tolerant lol

Three Houses/Hopes x Taskmaster
AKA here's how I think the kids would do in a school-wide Taskmaster competition.
Tumblr media
notes/explanations/ramblings under the cut
GARREG MACH STAFF
My thinking is that this is a lighthearted team-building game across houses, like a school sports day, so that’s why it’s students-only. If the staff participated, here's how I'd categorize them:
Rhea: I do not see a universe in which she participates lol. like I try to envision it and it does not compute
Seteth: just does the task
I included Cyril above just cause of his age and his likelihood to become a Garreg Mach student post-canon. He's only in “asks for help” because he needs someone to read the tasks out. After he hears it he’d be “just does the task.” But I wanted to put someone else in the bottom category with Hilda lol
Hanneman: would fall under the “distinguished older gentleman who completely loses his marbles over something small” category if there was one. Otherwise, loophole user or overly competitive
Manuela: I didn’t make an “older woman who makes every task as horny as possible” category, but if she was involved I’d make one just for her
Gilbert: gets distracted by something small, like categorizing all the rubber ducks by color or cleaning up after himself, and forgets to do the task. In this tier, “doesn’t give a fuck”
Catherine: overly competitive
Shamir: just does the task
Alois: does his best with mixed results
Jeralt: doesn’t give a fuck
PLACEMENT NOTES
Alois as Taskmaster was something I came around to after the subreddit recommended it. He'd award a bonus point randomly to whoever genuinely laughs at his puns.
I considered Seteth as Little Alex Horne, because he does have a sense of humor, but I think he's too genuine of a “straight man” to join in the spirit of the game. I do think he'd do well in the studio portion, reciting the stats and calling out mistakes/quipping back when the conversation gets rowdy.
But I like the thought of Byleth as the assistant for the recorded on-site tasks as someone who: 1. would get their hands dirty, and 2. doesn't mind the students making fun of them. Either way, I think a hard-working assistant (Seteth/Byleth) carefully planning all of these tasks only for the results to be judged by Alois who decides winners on his whims would be a funny inverse of the Davies/Horne dynamic, and very on brand with the show.
I thought about putting Ingrid in the “just does it” category but I think she’d get competitive if it were a game of BL vs other houses. If it’s just her house, she’d just want to have a good time. If it’s vs the other houses, she wants to represent her country well.
Annette is in the competitive category because she reads the task and immediately gets to work once the timer starts. Too concerned with Doing a Good Job and doesn’t read over the task and think it over, much less check under the table or look for any hints.
Claude also could have been in “overly competitive” but I think he’d have too much fun trying to find loopholes that he wouldn’t care about winning, he’d just try to have a good time bending the rules as much as possible or getting a rise out of the TM+assistant. Like Rhod Gilbert but with less antagonism.
Petra is in the loophole-user category because she is smart, and I think her second-language skills would help her here. She’d read instructions and interpret them as the Rules as Written, not Rules as Intended, which comes in handy in this game.
I haven't played Scarlet Blaze yet, so admittedly I had to make an educated guess on Monica based on content I've seen at a glance and fandom reactions to her.
Lysithea is ambitious in schoolwork and stuff that matters, but I think for something this nonsensical, she’d just do the task to get it over with. That is assuming she shows up at all.
I was torn with Sylvain because he is the type to show off, but since this is something that ultimately does not matter, he doesn’t want to try hard, fail, and look like an idiot doing something stupid like Felix or His Highness, so I think he’d just be in it for a good time. He occasionally wins without even trying, which absolutely infuriates Felix, who says he does not care (he does care).
For Felix himself I swung between “overly competitive,” “just does the task,” and “doesn't give a fuck.” But I think he's competitive only in certain things (he wouldn't get bent out of shape if he can't draw a horse with his feet), and I think he is too passionate a person to put in no effort at all. For most tasks I think he'd fall somewhere in the middle in terms of effort, thinking this is all stupid but still privately kind of wanting to do well.
SUBCATEGORIES
Subcategory 1: “Does the tasks while wearing a unique/weird Taskmaster outfit” includes Sylvain, Caspar, Hilda, Flayn (Seteth helped her make it), and all the house leaders. Dimitri and Edelgard got convinced into wearing one by their class. Claude was down to wear one immediately.
Subcategory 2: “Does good on the art tasks and nothing else” includes Ignatz, Flayn, and Bernadetta
PRIZE TASK IDEAS
I see Claude making a running gag out of his prize tasks, like something that embarrasses Edelgard or Dimitri every single round but it's always a tossup who it'll be. Like for "bring in the thing someone will miss the most," he'd bring in all of Dimitri's left shoes. Claude would also bring in the Sword of the Creator for "most high-octane item" and it's unclear whether he stole it or Byleth lent it to him because she thought it'd be funny.
Caspar would get a tattoo of the Taskmaster.
Raphael brings in the grilled cheese/cheese toastie box for "best subscription."
Hilda would be a big-time bullshitter like Judi Love trying to talk up all of her prize tasks.
Petra would bring in a reindeer skull for "most unusual item."
Hubert would find some way to bring in human blood in every task.
In a shocking turn of events, Ashe would steal the Spear of Assal for his "best stolen item."
Leonie is responsible for the "And I haggled for it" running joke, but it's unintentional.
Someone like Edelgard, Dedue, or maybe Ignatz would bring in the puzzle box, I'm not entirely sure who, but what I DO know is that Sylvain is responsible for "Just open the box, you p***y" and Byleth calmly stands, motions him over, and pulls him outside to chastise him while the entire class watches in disbelief/horror.
Ingrid brings in the laminator. It's by far her proudest moment in the competition.
MISC NOTES
Edelgard would be like Victoria Coren Mitchell: She'd keep trying to apply reason to the tasks, with mixed results, but on certain things (that may or may not even help her in the competition) I think she'd shine. Like when Victoria calculated everyone's scores in her head before Alex and Greg did, or when she taught herself how to ride a bike on camera just to complete the task.
Dimitri would just try to have a good time, but the assistant would need so many extra props because he'd end up breaking a lot of the materials. He would do excellent on all the food tasks though. In "Eat this egg the fastest" he'd just break it on the counter and swallow it raw.
Claude would get caught out by the two-part tasks every time because he'd try to be so clever working on Part 1 that it'd end up fucking him over. He'd make the obscenely tall chocolate sandwich for "make the most exotic sandwich" only for the second task to say he now has to eat all of it as fast as possible.
Felix mockingly saying "All the information is on the task" becomes a meme. Most of his tasks are crumpled from all the times he's clenched his fist in anger.
Leonie + Hilda on a team = Ed Gamble + David Baddiel. "Can I just check, have I been put on a team with Hilda Valentine Goneril?"
Solo tasks: The TM would probably want to give all the house leaders unique tasks, e.g. making Edelgard count all the beans in a can or Dimitri send him 500 cheeky texts. But I think Felix, Ferdinand, Hilda, Sylvain, or Lorenz getting extra tasks would be best for entertainment value. I think Felix is the only one who might be a sore loser about it, but god it'd be funny (even Lorenz might laugh it off if he sees it ~endears him to the public~ or something).

I'm gonna ramble a teensy bit sorey
4 years after I first had this thought and I am still angry that there is no Marianne and Seteth support chain. Doesn't even have to have an A support (would be nice though) I JUST NEED THEM TO CANONICALLY INTERACT. Marianne is a very devout (is that a word) believer so you'd think she'd have supports with a member of the church, right?? NO. She should've had a support chain with Seteth bc he's like. The church guy. Flayn is too silly in contrast to Marianne's canon depression, Catherine is also too silly and Cyril is Cyril. He's lovely but no. That only really leaves Seteth. There are no Rhea supports and Manuela and Hanneman do not care much about the church. Not to mention that she DOES have supports with Hanneman, but he's just asking about her crest!!!! I do think Seteth and Marianne could be friends cause Seteth is a very patient and understanding person and that is EXACTLY what Marianne needs. Obviously if they had a paired ending then it would be platonic. Idk what the ending would even be, just not something with "they got married and ran off together" or something stupid. Fe3h has some iffy paired endings in regards to some characters' ages sometimes unfortunately :(
Also just while we're here. EVERYONE is so so so mean to Cyril. In game and irl. He adores Rhea bc of [spoilers] and she takes advantage of that by making him do SO MUCH LABOR. RHEA YOU BASTARD HE IS 15!!! THAT BOY SHOULD BE READING BOOKS AND HAVING FUN!!! AND DRAWING AND PAINTIGN OR SMTH!! Also he CAN'T READ!! I can't believe she didn't even take the time to teach him to read. It'd take like 3 months and she could just get someone else to do it. It could be Seteth since he's such a lovely caring guy. Hey Bean did you know I love Seteth? Anyway back to what I was saying. Also the fandom isn't fond of Cyril. He's often reduced to just some guy that is obsessed with Rhea. The only people that like Cyril are Lysithea fans. He has a super cute support chain with her so people watch that and then they think "oh Cyril is actually pretty cool". This is also why all Cyril fans are also Cyril x Lysithea shippers. It's an objectively very cute ship. Also did you know his VA is called Griffin Burns?? Sick name. Griffin Burns has done a good handful of characters I like but the only one you know is Kai in to your eternity. That's sick.
Marianne doesn’t have any supports with church members? that seems. wrong.
annnnnnd yeah I was kinda expecting that with the paired endings. these are the same people who decided incest was a cool and necessary thing to put in sacred stones.
ALSO WHO IS BEING MEAN TO CYRIL. HE’S QUITE LITERALLY JUST A LITTLE GUY. AND HE DOESNT KNOW HOW TO READ??????? RHEA WHAT DO YOU EVEN DO ALL DAY.

And people still think Supreme Leader's whole spiel of "weak must be rely on themselves instead of others" is not social darwinism.
Which is even more ridiculous, all things considered given how heavily Supreme Leader herself relies on others - or the "gifts" she "received" from Uncle to launch her war or just - but well, we know how the game is regarding Supreme Leader.
There won't be any situation where she says this and someone, Dimitri or Dedue, ask her if she didn't rely on Hubert and her soldiers/generals to conquer Fodlan... And it's really frustrating, because we see glimpses here'n'there that she doesn't want to take Hubert for granted in their supports - so she knows he trusts and supports her... and yet we still have this nonsensical line.
Sure, Supreme Leader and Hubert can't reach those supports in AM since they're not playable, and that's the kind of artificiality I was berating FE16 for - if Billy didn't pick class X, members of class X will be in some sort of limbo where we don't even know, as a player, what kind of relationship they have with each other - bar the Lions who have lines for each others if one of them is killed, or mourn on screen.
Is Supreme Leader suddenly caring and wondering if Hubert follows her because he wants to and not because it's his duty - because Billy is her teacher, or Supreme Leader, when Billy isn't her teacher, dgaf about Hubert despite him being her right-hand man and more or less managing the war and the Agarthans? I'd say we're closer to the second option, given how she has no fucking line when he died, no mourning, no "they even defeated Hubert... No matter what, I cannot let them win!", nothing.
I mean, after Uncle's fireworks in Tru Piss, Dimitri mourns Rodrigue, Felix and Ingrid (if they weren't recruited). Tru Piss!Claude even doesn't understand and is pissed/upset/saddened because Hilda didn't retreat, Rhea laments the fall of Cyril and Catherine (in GM but not in her IO form for some reason?) and Seteth'n'Flayn's deaths...
Anyways, back to your ask, anon, we're not at the only one "for thee not for me" contradiction with Supreme Leader, but that's her mindset, only using part of what she went through (tfw the "Goddess" abandonned her by not rescuing her from Uncle... which is why she sides with Uncle to get rid of those pesky lizards and their goddess) to justify and motivate her conquest and imperialism in a few words : Git Gud.
Hell, it takes Ferdie's end supports in Tru Piss to have her realise that randoms cannot "Git Gud" if they don't have the means to "Git Gud"!

Gentle, Chapter 1- Jeritza x OC
Tumblr media
Rating: 18+ (MINORS DNI) for Eventual Smut
Fandom: Fire Emblem: Three Houses/Hopes
Relationship: Jeritza x OC
Summary:
She is soft. And in her softness, she dissolves whatever sharpness, whatever edge I have. In perfumed sheets and gilded sunlight, I am, for a moment, vulnerable. My gentility clambers out from where it's been buried deep for so many years. The Death Knight dies in her embrace, and from him blooms a new creature.
Jeritza finds himself drawn to one of Garreg Mach's newest professors.
Read here in this post or over on my AO3.
A/N: Hello, all! I've been experimenting with first person POV lately. I don't typically write them (I have a Castlevania fic in first person POV but that's about it), but I've been wanting to mix up my writing a bit lately. I thought it would be fun to write a fanfic from Jeritza's POV in the form of journal entries. Enjoy :)
6th of Great Tree Moon
It’s been a long while since last I wrote in any journal. I was probably a young boy when I recorded anything in a diary, one that is sure to be lost to time now. I’m not sure what has compelled me to begin one again. Maybe it’s an inane attempt to hold on to what little humanity I have left.
Much has plagued me and made it difficult for me to find the time to write. I’ve been far too preoccupied with the demon that has woven itself so intricately into my soul. It stalks me at every waking moment, hides in my psyche, lurks in my dreams. I barely sleep anymore. His grip on me is iron tight. For years, I have been unable to rid myself of him. It seems for ages he has been a part of me. Emile fights for dominance, but this demon beats him down time and again. I have claimed the name Jeritza. I have become a creature unseen by the likes of any history book. A dual being, of two minds. But slowly, these two minds are merging and I suspect that, eventually, they shall be one and the same. Until then, I have this diary to record Jeritza’s thoughts. This journal shall be my canvas, while the battlefield is reserved for the Death Knight. Ink is my medium, and blood is his.
10th of Great Tree Moon
I’ve begun my professorship at Garreg Mach Monastery on the recommendation of Lord Arundel. My leader, whose name I will not divulge in the case of prying eyes, has felt it best I secure a position here. Their machinations require me to be close to the subjects involved in our plans. I remain ever loyal.
On a side note, there is little of interest here. The students are quiet around me, and I around them. As the monastery’s fencing instructor, I have little to say to them other than corrections of their technique. Some are quite talented, others are better suited for the magical arts. The other professors are cordial, though Manuela grates on my nerves. Her flirtatious manner is most irksome to me and I am not receptive to her advances. Hanneman is constantly bothering everyone about crests. I don’t dare let him anywhere near me. I enjoy sparring with Catherine and Shamir. I cannot stand Alois’ jokes. Seteth is stern and leaves me well alone. Rhea is overbearing, but lets me do as I please. I’ve not much else to say at the moment.
11th of Great Tree Moon
Mercedes… She doesn’t recognize me. I wear a mask to conceal my face. She eyes me with intrigue, as if she knows me but can’t quite place from where. Things are better that way. I long to speak to her, but I know better than that.
16th of Great Tree Moon
I don’t speak to many people here. I often feel out of place. At odds with the serenity of this religious institution. It feels as if I marr its sacredness with my very presence. In me, I contain a darkness, unmatched. A demonic entity that claws its way out of my body at every chance it gets. I eat alone. I do not attend student/faculty mixers. I don’t have the capacity or patience to make friends. The myriad cats around here seem to understand me, however. I respect their solitary nature. Their independence and self-sufficiency are things I greatly admire. They are quiet and gentle. I enjoy their company in my off time.
20th of Great Tree Moon
The Death Knight grows hungry. His bloodlust is strong. It has been so long since last he was able to partake in such violent delights. I feel him itching at my skin, desperate to be released. But I must remain composed. I cannot risk losing my valuable position. The one I serve would be most disappointed were I to cause any complications in their plan. I know the demon will not be sated in the upcoming mock battle for the students. The one I serve promises that soon the Death Knight can have his fill. I must be patient. Emile, Jeritza, whoever I am grows weary holding him back.
***
We have just received word that a couple of mercenaries and a magician will be passing through the monastery in the next few days. They are, apparently, an impressive group. Rhea plans to recruit them. We are missing two professors and in dire need of replacements. I do not intend to get to know them beyond their skill in battle. I hope at least one of them can give me a good fight.
21st of Great Tree Moon
Our newest additions to the staff are intriguing, indeed. Jeralt was a member of the Knights of Seiros long ago. His physical age is suspicious to me. More on that later. I have watched Byleth in the practice arena and she is a force to be reckoned with. The Death Knight will enjoy fighting her, and Jeritza will no doubt delight in sparring her for practice. Rhea has decided that Byleth will lead one of the houses, allowing her to decide which one she will be the head of. Byleth has chosen the Black Eagles. An excellent decision. Perhaps she will decide to join our cause.
The third addition to our staff confuses me. It seems she will become the head of the Ashen Wolves, the four students that have made their home in Abyss, underneath the monastery. Ashani seems- delicate . She is a skilled magician, though I have yet to see her in action. Her demeanor is vastly different from her other companions. Both Byleth and Ashani are rather quiet. But there is a gentler air about the latter. She doesn’t seem nearly as battle-hardened as Byleth or Jeralt. Her motions are elegant, practiced. She is prim and proper, nothing I would have expected from a woman having traveled with a band of mercenaries for the last several months. She seems to be of little threat. I am unconcerned about her presence.
23rd of Great Tree Moon
I have closely been observing our new staff members. I look forward to seeing their battle prowess in next week’s mock fight. Jeralt will not be participating, but Byleth and Ashani will be. Ashani’s class will be split up amongst the other houses, as there are not enough members to make up their own team. I await this mock battle with great anticipation.
28th of Great Tree Moon
Byleth and I have been sparring the last several days. She puts up an excellent fight. If I were to die by her sword, it would be a glorious death, indeed. Or vice-versa. The Death Knight aches to meet her on the battlegrounds. Ashani watched from the sidelines, her gaze curious. She prances about in the monastery’s summer uniform. She smiles softly at me when we pass in the halls. The woman is unreadable to me. I cannot fathom her in any capacity. Byleth’s silent stoicism speaks to me in a language I understand. But Ashani’s gentility feels so utterly foreign.
Today, I watched her at the training grounds. She was instructing a group of students from each house about how to effectively use offensive magic. This was the first time I bore witness to her skill. Her motions are swift and sure. What she lacks in strength, she makes up for in wit and cleverness. Perhaps I judged her too quickly. Her shyness and tranquility led me to believe she would be of little threat. But there is something knowing in Ashani’s eyes. She caught me staring, an impish smile tugging at the corners of her lips before she turned back to her instructions. I plan to stay clear of her. Something about her makes me fear that she might see underneath the mask I have worked so hard to compose.
30th of Great Tree Moon
The mock battle was a success. Both Ashani and Byleth have proven to be excellent tacticians. Black Eagles won, which was no surprise. Manuela and Hanneman’s plans proved to be no match for the combined efforts of Ashani and Byleth. Afterwards, the students celebrated, but I did not participate. I chose to spend my time practicing in the training grounds. And it was then that the most curious thing happened.
I enjoy going when no one else is around. I find serenity in the pale light of the moon, after everyone has gone to bed. I can practice my fencing without any disturbances.
Apparently, Ashani enjoys practicing during late hours, as well. I was startled to see her already there when I arrived. She greeted me softly before turning back to her practice. I watched as lightning bolts and bursts of fire lit the grounds around us.
I told her she did well in today’s mock battle. I’m not sure what compelled me to do so. She thanked me graciously and we spent several minutes practicing separately, in silence.
“Can I practice with you?” her voice rang out in the night. The request surprised me. She often shies away from opportunities to battle her colleagues. She seems to prefer to spend her time reading, I’ve noticed. Linhardt has taken a liking to her. The two of them will sit in the grass and leaf through novels and textbooks, occasionally having heated debates about Crests and other such topics ( Goodness, I didn’t realize how much I observe this woman ). That’s not to say she shirks her duties as a professor. She’s merely not inclined to spend her free time dueling. Hence, her request came out of the blue for me. But who am I to deny a plea for battle?
Our duel was exhilarating. Long has it been since I battled someone that could potentially best me. Between Byleth and Ashani, I have two opponents that give me a true challenge. Ashani is fast, light on her feet as she flits around the arena. We are evenly matched in agility. While I am all offensive, she leans on the more defensive side. But her head-on attacks are vicious. She can’t afford to be anything but. Ashani is a viper and I am humbled. My judgement of her has proven to be most incorrect.
When we came to a draw at the end of our fight, we were both out of breath. She beamed softly at me.
“Thank you, Jeritza,” she spoke, giving a little bow, “I hope we get to fight again soon.”
Now, in the comfort of my quarters, I can write that I do, indeed, hope we get to fight again. I know in my dreams I will have visions of battling her.

Midnight Plays Azure Gleam: Chapter 5
Lonato's rebelling on a foggy map. It's deja vu all over again.
Count Rowe has officially rebelled. Everyone act surprised. I hope in this time we actually get to dispense with this jerkwad.
Poor, poor Ashe. Apparently there isn't a timeline in existence where he doesn't have to fight his adoptive father. Dimitri even tells him he can leave and Ashe refuses, since he is now a knight to the royal family. (Press X to hug!)
An Imperial vanguard is attempting to rendezvous with Lonato. No mention if there are any familiar faces in said vanguard.
Dedue telling Dimitri to stay behind in Fhirdiad, which naturally doesn't fly, lol. The plan is apparently to deal with Lonato and then seize control of Arianrhod. Someone named Duke Ifan will be maintaining things in Fhirdiad. Rodrigue says this person is a distant relative of Dimitri's? Hm.
Gustave's staying behind too. I'm kinda sad he isn't playable this time around, but at least Rodrigue is.
Dimitri needlessly apologizing again. Just another day ending in Y.
Seteth and Flayn are joining us! But where the heck was Flayn last chapter? Was she tucked inside Seteth's pocket or something? It was really weird that she wasn't on the battle map nor in the post-battle scene.
Camp (Southern Charon Territory)
(I like the way it shows you where on the world map you're currently located and the point where you're heading. This was something that was sadly missing in 3H since your base was always Garreg Mach. This makes the world feel bigger. Now if only the weather/terrain changed around camp too.)
We can go on "expeditions" now, which is this game's version of teatime. Truthfully, I barely used the teatime mechanic in 3H, so I'm probably not going to do many of these either, lol.
Arval mentions the fog in Magdred Way. But we don't have torches in this game...
An NPC notes how Lonato's beloved by his people and many of them rushed to enlist in his army.
Ashe (who is standing near this NPC) points out how it's wrong to enlist civilians in such a reckless cause. He looks so distraught, just like in 3H. Someone please give this boy a hug!
Annette doesn't have a good impression of Count Rowe. Surprise, surprise.
Rodrigue says that Rufus and Lonato used to clash a lot, but it was also Rufus who gave Castle Gaspard to Lonato. Interesting.
Ingrid brings up Miklan, of all people. She also says the enemy has skilled mercenaries in their employ. (Foreshadowing about Byleth?)
Woah. There's an NPC who talks about a rumor regarding one of Rufus' surviving retainers. Apparently said retainer had plans to try and assassinate Dimitri, but his headless corpse was found at Castle Itha before he could carry out the plan. Was this Dedue's doing? Dimitri's? Neither? Both of them?
Felix talks about the rebellion he put down with Dimitri years ago, and says that's when he saw "the beast" inside of Dimitri. Nothing we didn't already know from 3H, but it's good to have the refresher.
It sure is nice to see Seteth and Flayn again. <3
Interesting to note that Seteth was a Wyvern Rider when he appeared in last chapter's battle, but his starting class when he joins here is....cavalier. Weird. Also, because of how this game's class mechanics work, he can't actually use the Spear of Assal in his preferred class!
Catherine's here too, but she's sadly not playable (yet?). Strange that she's not with Rhea. Cyril's here as well, but he is leaving to go to Rhea, who is staying in a town called Camulus.
Interlude
Count Rowe sadly has a generic mage/scholar model, but he's still a complete snake and craven opportunist, just as was heavily implied in 3H. I'm guessing Gwendal is supposed to represent the dark side of knightly fealty, because serving and being willing to die defending this piece of trash is uh...not a good look, lol.
Battle
Arval again warns about the fog. I just realized that it hasn't been explained exactly how Arval has saved Shez's life so many times. With Sothis and Byleth, we knew about Divine Pulse, but what does Arval do? I'd like some clarification.
Ah, one of the strategies is a torch! Persuade Dorothea is also listed.
Oh shit. After defeating the vanguard, Byleth comes out (along with that badass/foreboding music). Now we're supposed to defeat them, and uh...yeah, they still hit like a truck.
Wait, what?! Freaking Miklan just showed up as a green unit! (Guess Ingrid really was foreshadowing what was going to happen this chapter!)
I can't wait to find out what the deal is with this. Felix is just as incredulous as I am, but Sylvain doesn't sound surprised.
Now there's a prompt to find Jeralt in the fog. I'm badly outmatched against Byleth, so I guess this is plan B.
The fog is really annoying, even more than it was in this mission back in 3H. It's making it very hard to navigate all the twists and turns on this map.
Now Alois has appeared as an enemy unit. Why is Alois here?!
So...Alois. Alois, the proud and dutiful Knight of Seiros...just quit his job and joined Jeralt's mercenary band. What the everloving @$%# writers? This is completely out of character! Why did you do this?!
Byleth defeated Miklan. But I managed to find Jeralt and defeat him, and defeat Alois too. Jeralt orders a fall back and Lonato sends in reinforcements.
There, took out the dark mage creating the fog. And now Lonato appears, and on the way getting to him, out pops Dorothea. Her magic's explosive of course, but "persuading" her wasn't hard.
Lonato calls the Central Church a "poisoned chalice." He really drank the Kool-aid didn't he? He does at least have the decency to ask Ashe to back down, but Ashe refuses. Poor Ashe deserves so much better than this.
Arval sounds strangely chill that Byleth got away.
Got an A Rank, because I went over the time limit. Stupid fog. Dimitri got the MVP. Shocker!
We see the Faerghus Four (plus Dedue) meeting with Miklan. Dimitri commends him for his efforts and Miklan's all about the money.
Felix is pissed (more than usual I mean). It's hard to say if it's because Miklan's a known bandit, or because he wasn't informed of this development, or because of concern for Sylvain. Probably all three.
Dimitri says he conferred with the Margrave over recruiting Miklan, because the Kingdom lacks military leaders. He points out that Miklan was trained by House Gautier, and that Faerghus has been dependent on Relics to protect their lands since its founding, but with Crests fading out, there needs to be an alternate path.
Felix and Ingrid still aren't convinced he should be a commander. Miklan says he's less a commander and more of a prisoner, since his every move is being watched.
Ah, Sylvain says he was one of the first people Dimitri consulted over this decision. That's comforting to know; it would've been a colossal jerk move for Dimitri to bring in Miklan without running it past Sylvain first. Sylvain sounds fairly chill about the situation, TBH.
Oh. Oh! Judging by what Dimitri says here, I think he partly came to this decision due to guilt about Rufus. Now that makes a lot of sense!
This is a really good scene. Whatever your personal opinion about Miklan, this discussion allows the player to see both sides of the argument explained, and Ingrid and Felix both get to voice their disagreement with Dimitri and he listens to their criticism and takes it in. Character dynamics! Actual nuance! It's great stuff!
Sounds like we're heading to Arianrhod next. Bring on the Silver Maiden!

I feel your anger/frustration re: Monica. But tbh I'm sure this all comes back down to the same BS with Edelstans who simultaneously say that if you hate Edelgard then you hate lesbians/bisexuals. It's nothing but stans being stans as they will. But I also agree with you. It's bad to say "why ship X when you can ship Y" and yet, why claim Monica/Edelgard is good representation when Catherine/Rhea, Catherine/Shamir, Annette/Mercedes, Dorothea/Petra and Marianne/Hilda are all right there!
Another anon perspective on Monica.
I'm not sure if you watch anime but Monica's infatuation for Edelgard is supposed to be treated as a funny joke. It's common. The most notable example I can think of recently is from this anime about a girl that loves ramen. She has an admirer that acts like a creepy stalker. It's not treated as something serious. It's just played as joke at the expense of the admirer. She is very enthusiastic in her crush but her crush does not care and too focused on something else.
Also this one. I don't really watch anime, but various media use that kind of behavior for lighthearted humor so I'm familiar with it. The logic isn't entirely unsound; when viewed by a disinterested third party, unrequited attraction can indeed appear comically pathetic.
