Min Yoongi x Reader with chronic pain

You aren’t sure exactly what wakes you up to begin with–maybe it’s a soft noise outside, or maybe it’s the shifting of your partner in bed beside you–but you find yourself in that groggy, formless place between sleeping and awake. You’re cozy, curled up in your blanket, the air conditioning set to just the correct temperature to keep the muggy Seoul summer air out of your apartment. The arm slung around your wait keeps you close to the body beside you. Your dog is curled up at your feet.

It’s still so early, the bedroom is still dark, there’s almost no sound of the city below outside. You squirm around, attempting to roll over, despite being confined by an arm and a dog–

–you feel a pop, and suddenly, a sharp, stabbing pain shoots through your leg. Your knee shrieks, white-hot as you immediately freeze. You suck in a breath through your teeth and let out a quiet, pained ‘fuck.’

You give it a moment, keeping your leg as still as possible while you try to determine if anything is seriously wrong. Yeah, your knee hurts–it’s calmed now into a stabbing ache instead of the shot of electricity from the initial… whatever happened–but it doesn’t feel permanently damaged. Carefully, you bend your knee, testing the waters to see what’s going on. You breathe through the pain as it flares with the movement. Thankfully, it doesn’t pop again, doesn’t explode. You don’t see stars in the dark. The pain is harsh, but tolerable.

Not serious, you determine, and slowly, carefully, you finally roll over.

Beside you, Yoongi stirs, presumably disturbed by your movement. He hums softly, his arm tightens around you, nuzzles into your hair.

“‘S wrong?” he mumbles, muffled voice groggy and raspy.

“Nothing,” you lie. Though, really, it’s more an omission of truth. You’re fine–or at least, you will be–and there’s no point in disturbing both of your sleep. In the morning, maybe you’ll get him to help you wrap your knee, or get him to grab you an ice pack. But for now? “I’m good.”

Again, he hums. It barely takes a minute for his breathing to even out again, and just like that, he’s back to sleep. There’s a moment where you think that it’ll take you much longer, but then you feel yourself drifting fairly quickly.

You wake again, this time with a groan. It feels like someone’s stabbing you in the knee. It must have popped again, but this time, it’s much worse. The pain lingers far longer this time, and fuck it sucks.

Yoongi’s arm tightens around you. “What’s wrong?” Despite the sleepy rasp in his voice, he’s alert.

“My knee popped,” you say, doing your best to keep your voice steady. “I’m fine.”

He hums, and immediately, you know he doesn’t believe you. Gently, he kisses your shoulder, mumbles a soft ‘I’ll be right back’ and he pushes himself up and out of bed. At your feet, Holly raises his head, blinking sleepily at his master. Yoongi rubs his head on his way out, and you watch his bare back disappear into the darkness of your hallway.

You have no idea what time it is, and you feel terrible. Not just because your knee hurts–the stabbing has started to dissipate, but a throbbing pain remains–but because now Yoongi is awake, too. He has to be up early in the morning, there’s no way he’ll get enough sleep. He would never say anything, but you’re almost certain he’ll be miserable during the day. And that almost makes you feel worse than your knee does.

Almost.

The sound of his bare feet padding against the hardwood floors precedes his emergence from the dark hallway. He carries a cold pack and the brace he’d made you a few months ago. As he walks, he slips the cold pack into the pouch on the brace and separates the velcro.

“Can you lift your leg?” he asks softly, placing his hand lightly just under your knee. His thumb ghosts across your skin.

Honestly, you aren’t sure, but you try anyway. The pain flares when you move, but it’s not as intense as you expect it to be. With practiced skill, Yoongi wraps the brace around your knee and secures the velcro in one motion. “That okay? In the right spot?”

“More right.” You help him adjust the placement, and finally, as the cold of the ice sinks into your knee, you let your head fall back into the pillow. 

Holly gets up as Yoongi crawls back under the covers, the little dog hopping down off the bed with a sigh and schlepping his way over to his little bed. Yoongi settles in almost immediately, his arm wrapping around you once again and ever-so-gently pulling you flush against his chest. His skin is soft, and you try to focus on his breathing under your ear and drawing little patterns onto his chest with your finger. His skin goosebumps under your touch and you hum in amusement; his breathing is even, gentle. Not asleep–his thumb is rubbing gentle circles into your hip–but relaxed.

He gives it a few minutes, lets the chill of the cold pack dig its claws into your pain. Finally, he asks, “How does it feel?”

“Not… great.” You pick at a loose string on the blanket that’s draped across the lower half of his body. “But better.”

He hums, kisses your temple, mumbles a soft ‘good’ against your skin.

“You didn’t have to do that.”

“I didn’t,” he agrees, nuzzling against you. “But you were in pain. And I wanted to. So I did.”

You sigh. You’re not quite sure how he’s this understanding, how he’s this chill about everything. But he is. And you’re not entirely sure you deserve it, but you appreciate it nonetheless. You aren’t quite sure where you’d be without his care and rapt attention. Perhaps someday you’ll be able to return the favor, to show him just how much it means that he loves you this much.

But for now, you squeeze him a little tighter, press a delicate kiss to the bare skin just under his collarbone, and snuggle in. You lay in silence, listening to his heartbeat. It calms you, and eventually, you barely notice the pain in your knee. You fall asleep to the sound of him breathing, and to the chill of the cold pack against your skin.

if only we all had a lovely yoongi to care for us when the pain hits... I'd love to know your thoughts on this.

💙 : the type of baby to prefer naps over being awake when regressed. Don't get me wrong— he loves to play video games, watch every cartoon he can stumble onto and hang out with friends or family. However naps is something that keeps him calm literally 80 percent of the time. If he doesn't get his naps he will be a very cranky boy

💙 : his favorite little food(s) is anything involving ice cream or Mac and cheese. He highly prefers ice cream over Mac and cheese and everything else, but he isn't that picky. He gets what he can get, and he'll end up being neutral about it. If he were to hold a grudge about it; he'd forget about it within two hours

💙 : very very quiet around people. He's like the kid in your class who rarely talks at all. (Or socialize much in class). He's exactly like that most of the time. Just hand him a controller or a comic book and you won't even notice he's there.

💙 : is pretty liquid with his agere age and isn't sure what his age is. But all he knows is that he regresses younger than 10. Not much older than that. (I think hes either a infant or toddler regressor)

💙 : a very sweet baby. Will ask for cuddles from his babysitters and CGs whenever the opportunity is there. He will also follow them around while he's glued to his games. He will let you play his games, but only because he wants to watch and do commentary on your gameplay.

💙 : his little hobbies are mostly him napping, playing games or reading. But sometimes he will color for his friends or redraw scenes from his books.

💙 : I feel like when little he'd play animal crossing, red dead redemption and minecraft. He finds comfort in those games. When it comes to books the majority of it is comics. Such as manga or superheros (DC and Marvel)

💙 : steals his babysitters/caretakers shirts and or hoodies. You can't get them off of him because before you can, he's asleep. Sometimes he likes to tease about it when he's big because he knows nobody has the guts to wake him up. So he's pretty slick when it comes to getting what he wanted

💙 : doesn't have a permanent caregiver per say, but he looks up to Stephen Stills alot more than other people. He see's him as an influence and father figure enough as it was. So he trusts him to be his caregiver

💙 : owns 'too many' agere gear for one person. But it's often than not that he's spoiled rotten. But he doesn't mind it

💙 : he's probably a bluey and paw patrol fan. Change my mind

6 Who would ask the “would you love me if I were a worm?” question? How would their S/O answer? Honestly, I can see either of them getting sloppy and asking this! Charles just replies with a serene, "Of course." Ceelie doesn't like worms, but she offers to put worm Charles in the pot of one of her plants!

16 Who is the better caretaker? Does their S/O like being taken care of? Oh, definitely Charles! He's basically Dethklok's babysitter, lol. Ceelie doesn't need a babysitter, but she occasionally needs a guiding hand, and Charles is very good at filling that role for her. She loves it!

33 Which one of them gives “that look” when they other is acting like a fool? Charles, definitely, though as an adult, Ceelie's on the receiving end very rarely, lol. During the Snakes N' Barrels days, though? Hoo, boy!

66 Have they ever been caught in the act? What would be their reaction if they were? Many times, I'm sure! If it's just a klokateer, either of them really care. In fact, Ceelie enjoys having an audience! Everything she does is a performance, remember? Though not always. Charles is breaking her out of that. Now, if Dethklok walked in on them? While it may not seem like it sometimes, Gov really did care about the states. It was his responsibility to keep them safe (not really, but he sure as hell did think it-). If any of them were ever in any trouble, he would be there. If anybody ever hurt them, he will deal with the offender with a very bloody grin. If they needed comforting, he would do his best to do so. No questions asked. So here's a couple times that he proved to be a better parent/caretaker than any of the states have ever had...

(New York)

It was the middle of yet another meeting when Gov noticed that New York seemed to be a bit off. His eyes looked slightly glossy with unshed tears and he was shaking a bit. His breathing also seemed to be a bit off and he looked like he would pass out at any given time. Well thats- that's not good. Nor is it normal for New York of all people to be on the verge of tears. Welp. He better go check up on him.

"Alright meeting dismissed!!" Shouted the Fed. He sighed as all of the states present either teleported or walked out of the meeting room. Great. Now it's time to check on the Empire State.

He got up from his seat and started his way to the NE floor of the statehouse, assuming that NY would be in his room being his normal self-isolated broody self. Gov snuck past the living room where the NE states were and walked down the hall till he reached the end where York's room was. Once he reached the door, he hesitated on knocking at first, but he eventually did.

"New York? It's me Gov." After a few seconds, he got a response that sounded like York was about to tell him to go away, but then he heard a strangled choke that was followed by what sounded like a severe coughing fit and a thud. 'sh*t-' Gov thought to himself. That cant be good...

He hurriedly tried to open the door and was relieved to find that it was unlocked. Which was a bit weird, seeing as York's door is usually locked, but that's not the point. There is bigger problems right now. He entered the Empire State's room and made sure to close the door before turning around. His eyes widened at the sight before him.

New York was curled up on the floor in a fetal position with his arms wrapped around his chest and his hands holding his throat as one would if they were choking. Which he seemed to be. He was coughing really hard, hard enough that it definitely promised a hurting throat for a while.

Gov instantly ran over and knelt down next to the Empire State. He placed a hand on the smaller's back and started gently rubbing circles on it. He could feel how much York was shaking. He could see the side of his face and noticed tears running down his face. "New York...." he worriedly whispered to himself. He continued to rub gentle circles in the smaller's back until he eventually gained some control of his breathing. Gov felt York physically give up and lay in a panting lump on the floor.

"New York?? Are you alright??" Gov asked, concern evident in his voice. He picked up the smaller and placed him on his bed and sat next to him. York just laid there panting. He noticed that the Empire State's eyes were a rusty-orange color instead of their usual golden-honey brown color and he could see the NYC skyline in them.

York panted a bit before gasping out a response. "S-smoke..."

Gov remembered the air pollution stuff happening in NY, but he still wanted to make sure that that was what York had said. "Is it the smoke that's making it hard for you to breathe?"

York nodded a bit before wincing a bit. "H-h-hurts..." He mumbled with a small whimper that was a bit heartbreaking to hear, especially coming from the normally stoic, emotionless state.

"I'm gonna go get you some water. I'll be right back." Gov said, placing a gentle hand on York's shoulder before teleporting out of the room. A few seconds later, he came back with a water bottle and handed it to the Empire State, who took it with a bit of hesitation.

York sat up and took a sip of the water, but he was still panting a bit and looked like he might pass out.

"Are you going to be alright?" Gov asked, concern still in his voice.

"Y-yea I'll be fine. I've dealt with this before, I'm gonna be fi-" New York said as he started to walk towards the door before trailing off. Gov noticed how he was swaying a bit.

"New York?" Suddenly York passed out and fell over, and he would've hit his head if Gov was there to catch him. Gov sighed as he picked up the smaller state, and he tried to ignore how uncomfortably light York was as he carried him to his bed.

York came to a few minutes later and tried to get up, but Gov stopped him and laid him back down. He was too tired to physically protest so he just opted to say "Oi I said I was fine."

"Shhh.... You need to rest for a bit. Don't bother fighting me, I will get Massachusetts in here and he will make sure you rest." Gov said firmly, poking York in the side as a slight warning.

York squeaked slightly and swatted Gov's hand away. "Ohohokay." He laughed out. He laid back down and tried to relax a bit. He eventually relaxed a bit when he felt Gov run a gentle hand through his hair, which set off a purring cycle and lulled him into slumber.

Gov smiled when he heard York's small snores and purring fill the room.

(Texas)

At around 3am, Gov emerged from his office to refill his coffee mug for what seemed like the millionth time. As he walked over to the coffee machine, he noticed Texas leaning over the kitchen island with one of the most broken expressions Gov had ever seen on him. He noticed that Texas was holding a whiskey bottle in his hand as well.

"Texas?" Gov said.

Texas's head quickly snapped towards him before he wiped his eyes and traded that broken expression for a neutral one. "Uh- hey. What're ya doin' up?"

"Could ask you the same." Gov responded.

Texas was silent for minute before sitting down on one of the bar stools and pulling out his phone.

"Are you alright?" Gov asked, setting aside the thought of coffee for now. This was way more important.

Texas jumped slightly and looked Gov in the eyes. "Huh? Oh- um. Yea I'm fine." Texas said with a smile.

But ofc, Gov could tell that he was lying. Gov walked over the larger state and wrapped an arm around his torso.

The Lone Star State seemed a little shocked at first, but eventually hugged him back and buried his face in the slightly shorter man's shoulder. This time, he couldn't stop the tears rolling down his face and he began to cry quietly.

"Oh Terrence... What's wrong bud?" Gov asked, unknowingly using Texas's human name. Or maybe he did know. It was hard to tell, but Texas wasn't really expecting it.

"I've just been having a bit of a rough time lately... And one of my dogs passed away earlier..." Said the Lone Star State.

"I'm sorry Tex...." Gov said sympathetically.

"It's fine..."

"Is there anything I can do?"

"C-can we just stay l-like this for a bit? I-i-its completely fine if no-"

"Of course we can, Terry."

"T-thanks Fed..."

"Of course kid...."

💙 - How long have you been into whump?

I've been into the concept of whump since I was a little kid reading the Bible (yeah...)

But I got into actual whumpblr last year. I started posting this year.

🔮 - What's a favorite whump trope of yours?

I love it when the whumpee(s) are devoted to the whumper(s). Either from their culture or religion that demands they be, because of whumper's position, or because of Stockholm Syndrome messing with their head. Good stuff.

🌈 - Do you prefer Caretaker to be a partner or friend or rival to whumpee?

I don't actually write caretakers, aside from in random brief one shots and whatever the fuck Christopher has going on. I don't vibe with comfort.

But in reading, friendship hits the hardest. Romance is fine, as is rivalry, but I want them to be best friends.

3) Do/does your kintype(s) impact your personality/actions in any way? If so, how?

They definitely do!

If I had all the time and money in the world, I'd spend all day, every day hiking. Fun fact - wandering albatrosses can fly over 10,000 miles in a single journey! Not sure I could walk quite that far, but go on a 10-15 mile hike each weekend if I can :)

As a mermaid in the deep se I used to be was a caretaker for ocean life, and I've wanted to keep an aquarium as long as I can remember. I don't have the funds for one just yet lol

5. What do you like most about your own kintype(s)?

I really appreciate how understanding my kintypes more has given me more direction in life; as an albatross, I'm sure I want to travel the world and as a mermaid I'll very happily spend my life looking after my friends and pets :)

15. What kind of weather do/does your kintype(s) enjoy?

I mostly prefer cool, overcast weather (especially at night). It reminds me the most of the cold depths of the ocean :)

You'd think as an oceankin I'd like rainstorms - but I find them really stressful! Getting tossed around in stormy waves are some of my most upsetting kin memories :(

So full disclosure I haven't followed you for long, but based off your description, honestly, I ship you with Jason. I think he'd be a good match for your extrovertedness as well as all of your energy. He'd need a person who can keep up with him and he'd like someone he can always be doing stuff with, ya know? And, while I don't particularly see him as social, I think he'd admire that in an s/o, and use it as an avenue to maybe become more social himself, or at least come out of shell he's been safe inside every since becoming Red Hood. I'll try to make it short but I warn you now, I'm wordy lol I'm a woman who is bisexual but does have a strong preference for men. I'm an introvert, I like being around my loved ones but I do need space to myself sometimes and being around new people always takes a lot out of me. That's one of the reasons that I tend to hold people at arms length until I get to know them, but once I do I'm a very loyal and dedicated friend (and that goes same when you're my s/o). I think my sense of humor is one of my best qualities, I love making people laugh and Will honestly do some silly stupid shit to make you smile 😂 also, I think a reason I tend to be wordy is that I'm a writer! That's what I'm slowly turning into a career, I love crafting stories and entertaining people with them and I want to make my living off of what I love. I'm creative in other ways too, I cosplay and make decorations for my house as well as my own clothes. I'm just a very creative person in general. As for my love language I... honestly don't know. Probably acts of service just because I've been in a caregiver role so often in my life and do a lot to care for my family, that's actually why I'd love a partner who takes care of me, too. The first person that came to my mind when u read your description was Dick, look, he's a care caretaker at heart but will benefit from someone who also has the tendency to look after others.

I don't mean this in a bad way, this exchange will come out as something pure and natural. It'll be nurturing and beneficial for the two of you to find someone who gives the same care you put into others or looks after you in those days you don't feel like giving anything at all.

Another thing that might be a good thing and a bad thing is that you'll have a lot space for you in this relationship. It's not that Dick doesn't care, of course not, he wants to know you're okay and also make you feel loved.

But he also likes to have his own space to recharge. His job is consuming and so is being the emotional support of a lot of people, he doesn't regret this, but he likes to have his own space sometimes. This usually happens when he's sad tho, and he can leave for days without showing signs of being alive.

Dick is supportive so I can see him cheering you and motivating you to keep writing the stories you love, it makes him happy to see you excited about your craft. He'll read whatever thing you write and even give you a few ideas if you left him.

He can also be a model if you want him to, can you do the new version of the disco wing costume?? He can wear that for Halloween lol

Ruhka, simply, wants to belong somewhere. He's never felt fully settled somewhere, everything feels fleeting and temporary. Family is an idea he's seen but never understood. He's been, or he is, a caretaker, but he's never been taken care of, he's never had anything like a parent to rely on. Mentors yes, but a parent that cares, no. Even as a caretaker he's sort of flying by the seat of his pants, trying to give something he's never gotten. He wants to feel like he's wanted somewhere, like he doesn't have to be ready to run at a moment's notice. He doesn't feel like he deserves it however, it'd have to be in his hands for him to realize it's something he could take, and even then he'd be terrified to try.

The only thing Avnas ever really wanted was freedom, from the beginning to the end, and every death in between. And, after all these millennia, he finally has it. It isn't at all the freedom he expected, to tell the truth, and he's not too sure the price he paid was worth it, but he wouldn't take it back either, not that he could anyways. But, he would fight tooth and nail to keep it, in this his last life, he'll die free and he'll do near anything to make sure of it.

Of course he does, Ruhka is nothing if not awfully clingy, honestly. He does try to reel it in, that doesn't mean he succeeds. He'd be pouting and moping constantly if he didn't toss himself in to his work to cope, which frankly is his coping mechanism for most things, work so hard that there's zero room for any other thoughts. It's only marginally better than his second go to coping mechanism of getting blackout drunk, which takes quite a few bottles of liquor at this point.

Avnas gets antsy if it goes on too long away, a day or two and he starts getting paranoid even if he knows where Lokki is. After all, they aren't in a kind business, and silence can be equally good or bad. The longer away the more likely he is to respond to small annoyances with anger, or outright violence. He wants freedom, and that requires those he chooses to keep around to be free too, but they have to be close enough for him to be sure of that.
