Muppet Fact #910
The Muppets Mayhem has officially been cancelled by Disney after one season. Adam F. Goldberg had hopes of creating more Muppet media, but this cancellation has possibly put that oh hold.

it just occurred to me that the reason legends of tomorrow was cancelled may have been because of the married, sapphic main characters who were going to have a baby i’m going to scream-

It's strange re-watching Dead Like Me after 20 years. There were so many lessons about life and growing up that I remember learning, but now I realize they never really sunk in. Bryan Fuller gives great life advice through Rube, who is a great father figure for George. Rube takes an interest in George's afterlife and actively involves himself in contrast to George's father, who divorces himself from his family life and eventually actually divorces George's mom.
Roxy's also a great mom stand-in/contrast for Joy. They're both aloof and seemingly hostile with their constant criticism to George, but Roxy takes the time to help and advise her when necessary. Roxy knows when to get involved and support George whereas Joy is seemingly afraid to do the same. Fortunately, Joy seems to learn from her mistakes with George and tries harder to connect with Reggie.
Betty, Mason, and Daisy are all siblings without being a surrogate for George's relationship with Reggie. Betty was instrumental in demonstrating to George that she had to take an active part in her own life. Betty was a role model who encouraged her to try new things.
Mason is a loveable screwup who grows throughout the show. At first he demonstrates how not to live the afterlife and makes poor decisions. In this way, he's allowing George to learn without having to make the mistakes herself. He's also very protective of George (and Daisy) and supports her even when the other reapers give her a hard time (often because she needs to learn a lesson).
Daisy is terrible when she's first introduced, but she later calms down and seems to become genuinely concerned about George after they move into a house together. Their relationship mirrors George and Reggie's with Daisy acting as George in this relationship, and had George lived, I think the sisters would have eventually acted the same way. Regardless, Daisy-as-an-older-sister demonstrates a different kind of self-confidence that I'm glad George doesn't adopt.

I finished The Wilds a couple weeks ago
I didn't know it had been cancelled
Or I guess I knew, I must have seen it somewhere at some point but I forgot
It faded in the background, along with all the dozens of other queer (mainly wlw and POC lead) shows that have been cancelled after their first (or maybe even a second insultingly short) season
Today I finished reading Paper Girls
So I thought, 'Hey! why don't I watch the TV Show next? it looked cool in the couple trailers that amazon showed me'
It also got cancelled
I guess all I have to say is 'Why?'
Why do they feel comfortable taking our money?
Giving us hope of being seen?
Making us think they see us?
Making us (for an instant, just long enough for the delusion to sink their teeth on us) feel worthy of being seen?
To then just-
Take it all away
Why?
What makes their stories worthy of being told?
Why our (review acclaimed, award winning, moving, complex, loved) stories aren't worthy in their eyes?
Why aren't we worthy?
Just-
'WHY?'

Rewatched Timeless since the finale took place the week of Christmas, 2023.
Tumblr media
This show frustrates me SO, SO much. So much.
They have Rufus, who is amazing. Especially when paired with Jiya. Seriously, Malcolm Barrett is a massive part of why this show went more than 6 episodes, and he has wonderful chemistry with Claudia Doumit.
They have Goran Visnjic who manages to play the villain with so much heart that you pay far more attention when he's on screen.
Goran and Malcolm are the two elements of why this show-- when it worked-- worked. The two of them had SO much charisma, so much put into their characters that no matter what was going on on the screen, you wanted to know what happened to them. You needed to know if they were okay.
They have Susanna Thompson, who aside from being a very compelling actor on her own, was stellar as the Queen Borg on Voyager.
They have Annie Wershching, who manages to play a villain without being absurd or over the top. (She also played the Queen Borg for Picard, but I really, really hate Picard. But I quite like Annie. RIP Annie.)
They had a main woman character who had agency, and a storyline of her own.
They have a creepy clandestine cult trying to destroy the world, that's always fun.
They had Sakina Jaffrey and Paterson Joseph, both of whom are enjoyable to watch.
They had Colman Domingo as a guest star playing Bass Reeves-- just before he exploded and became known to the world. As expected, he was brilliant every moment.
Sean Maguire guest starred in an episode, he was great as well. Karen David played a young Denise Christopher with excellence.
They didn't let Matt Frewer do an accent, so he was fine.
They have a time machine where they can go anywhere in time. How can you go wrong with this premise?
They have writers from Mad Men and The Walking Dead.
They have stories where they can focus on women, People of Colour and queer people who have all been forgotten in history. This is the key point on why the show should have worked-- the hidden histories.
This all could have worked. This should have worked. This fucking show SHOULD HAVE WORKED.
If they hadn't had a forced love story between the main woman character and the horrible, stupid, possessive toxic masculinity wrapped up in insecurity soldier boy.
Everything else about this stupid show worked. But they spent so much time focussing on a love story between the two most boring, most under-developed, worst characters on the show that they ruined it.
I don't know if it was Matt Lanter's acting, if it was the writing, the directing, I don't know.
What I do know is that every time Rufus, Jiya, Flynn, Denise, Connor and Emma were on the screen, I cared what happened. When Lucy was on the screen by herself, I cared less, but it was fine. When Lucy and Wyatt were on the screen, I zoned out. I came on Tumblr, I checked my emails, I replied to texts from friends. I could not care even a second every time they were on screen. When just Soldier Boy was on, I started to doze.
This show is SO frustrating. SO much of it worked. But not the bits they were so focussed on showing.
This show makes me mad sometimes. I'm mad at the lost opportunities, I'm mad for the moments that worked well and were never unpacked. I'm mad for all the episodes we could have had highlighting women, People of Colour and queer people forgotten through history. I'm mad that to get to all the great moments with Flynn, Rufus, Jiya, Denise, Connor and Emma, I have to sit through SO much crap with Lucy and Soldier Boy.
This show is like two different shows-- an interesting one with lots of great characters in interesting situations, and a horrible soap opera with the dumbest, most selfish, most bland white people ever that I wish would just die.
And then two minutes later, Rufus or Flynn is on scene and I care again.
This show makes me mad.

I don't get people who complain about their niche show getting cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons
and then in the same breath complain that more people are watching it, and that they want to to stay niche forever

Someone's probably had this idea already and there's probably good reasons why it wouldn't work but I'll just voice my thoughts:
I'm really sad that ofmd was cancelled and I pondered if it could be made, if fans paid for it. Like if we collectively paid, let's say the amount we'd normally put on Netflix or HBO, for a few months, or even a year or two, would we be able to do it? And then they could make it and we'd get to see what they had planned for it. Ofmd made me think about this, because the makers knew they weren't getting a third season so they didn't end it in a cliffhanger, but they did have ideas for more and I would've loved to see it!!! But my idea goes for all the cancelled shows that we wish were finished but streaming services decided to be cunts so they never got their endings.
Is the issue copyright or would there just never be enough money or??? I don't know enough about the industry.

"why should I get invested in shows if they'll just get canceled" I was deeply invested in Heroes (2006) and it was not canceled, it just got really terrible. I also got really invested in the sandwich I had a few weeks ago despite it only lasting like 15 minutes. You must embrace the ephemeral. You must be willing to love things that may not love you back, that might betray you, or that may die an untimely death. As the great philosopher Mr. Mitchell Lee Hedberg said "I'm not gonna stop doing something because of what happens at the end."

Top 5 Cancelled Netflix Children's Animated Shows 💻🟥🧒❌
Last time, I covered 5 Netflix animated shows for adults that got cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons. In this post, we have 5 Netflix animated shows for kids that only lasted for 2 seasons.
Tumblr media
1: Kong: King of the Apes
Tumblr media
2: The Magic School Bus Rides Again
Tumblr media
3: Spy Kids: Mission Critical
Tumblr media
4: The Hollow
Tumblr media
5: Team Zenko Go
So, that's all 5 short-lived Netflix animated shows for younger audiences. I hope you enjoy this post, even though, like the previous post, it's a disappointing topic. And be sure to favorite, re-blog, and/or reply. Which is up to you.

i don't think some of y'all understand how significant it is that annabeth chase, the leading lady in an IP/brand as big as percy jackson, is played by a black girl. she is not some sidekick or comic relief. THEE annabeth chase, one of the wisest, intelligent, brave demigods and love of percy jackson's life, is played by a BLACK GIRL!!
but you're so hateful and caught up with book inaccuracies and changes that you can't even offer a sliver of hope for things to improve in continuing seasons, and instead immediately resort to wishing the show gets cancelled because they didn't do that specific thing in that specific scene in the books. makes me think there might be another underlying reason as to why you want it to fail.
and before someone starts, this isn't to say you can't have criticism, but if you really love percy jackson, why wouldn't your hope be for things to get better?
"i hope this show gets cancelled" yeah girl fuck you
