The Stupidest Things In Netflix's Avatar The Last Airbender: A List

a whiny rant from someone who has dedicated far too many of their already limited number of braincells to atla i know it's just a tv show but come on this is what tumblr is for let me whine

For your consideration, with many spoilers:

5. Katara Being Smug After Kicking Jet's Ass

In the original, Katara is betrayed by Jet. You can feel the raw emotion in the words "I trusted you! You're sick, and I trusted you!" immediately followed by her concern for the innocent people Jet has seemingly murdered. It's not a triumph, it's a wound, and the next time she sees Jet, her first reaction is "kill on sight".

This is great. It's heartwrenching, it's humanizing, and Katara using violence against Jet isn't a victory for her. It's just pain.

In the live action, Katara very mildly chastises Jet for trying to kill innocent people, which is... an interesting characterization for her, to say the least. Jet then tries to grab her, immediately followed by Katara throwing him and freezing him. She then just tells him goodbye. Her tone is placid, almost unaffected.

And then Jet says "Look at the power you have. That's because of me!"

Katara: "That wasn't you. That was me."

And then she strides off with a small smile, and that's the end of that. Sokka and Aang are not present. It's an incredibly hokey moment that's meant to emulate the style of feminine empowerment, but it has none of the substance. It glosses over any human feelings of hurt and betrayal. All that the it ends up doing is removing a story beat for Katara.

4. The Badgermoles

"They're blind! They sense feelings and react to them! Anger, fear... but mostly love."

Katara and Sokka hold hands in a cave and it makes the badgermole stop attacking them.

The blind badgermoles. Navigate by... love.

Yeah.

Do I need to say anything? Can we all see (pun intended) how stupid that is?

3. Bumi Makes Aang Choose Between Killing Him Or Letting Himself Die To Make The Dumbest Point Imaginable

Remember Bumi? Aang's old friend, a fun, kooky king? Well, here he's an actual fucking psychopath.

He collapses part of the roof onto Aang, and Aang holds it up with airbending. Another part of the roof collapses on Bumi, and Bumi just... shrugs his shoulders, fully intending to die. Aang holds that one up as well, and Bumi, instead of helping, makes the dumbest fucking point I've ever heard about "making tough choices", and urges Aang to let the boulder crush him.

Again. Bumi, the fun, wise king, wants Aang to kill him.

The situation is defused by Katara freezing a little strip on the floor so that Sokka can very slowly slide on it and tackle Bumi to safety. I can not emphasize how slow his slide is. Running would have been faster. Bumi has time to look at him and say "Huh?" as Sokka slowly slides across the floor. Oh, yeah, they were led onto the scene by the love-sensing badgermoles.

Then it's Aang's turn to be dumb. He says "you CAN rely on your friends" and hands Bumi a friendship rock. Bumi is pacified for now, but there is no telling when his next Saw trap will activate.

This made me actually feel bad. I just. I kept expecting for it to turn into a secret lesson, like Bumi in the original show, but it never did. Bumi's just a spiteful psychopath who is easily swayed by the gifting of rocks.

2. Koh The Face-Stealer Has A Backstory Now

Why? Mother of Faces? What? No.

No.

Iroh Is Intimidated By Zhao, And Then He Kills Zhao

Ah, Live Action Iroh. The most ineffectual man on the planet.

So, Zhao has the Moon Koi in a bag, and is ready to stab it with his special stabbing implement. Iroh is standing right behind him. RIGHT BEHIND HIM. Iroh has been there the whole time. Iroh does not want Zhao to kill the fish.

Iroh says: "Whatever you do to that spirit, I'll unleash on you tenfold!"

Remember how in the original, where that was like a big, shocking moment that he got angry? And how Zhao immediately let go of the fish, only to then have his anger get the best of him? How Zhao attacked the spirit by surprise?

Well, here it's a little different. For one, like I already said, Iroh doesn't come in suddenly, he sort of gets bullied into looking for the spirit by Zhao. Then he looks for the spirit, and after Zhao finds it, then he decides that he really has a problem with killing the spirit. He did protest before, but then he kind of just caved and helped anyways.

He threatens Zhao, and Zhao just... brushes him off. "Spare me your empty threats." Then the firebenders next to Iroh sort of... glower at him menacingly, and Iroh looks worried.

Zhao offers Iroh a place at his side once he becomes Fire Lord, which, uh? Okay. Fine. I actually don't have a problem with Zhao wanting to be Fire Lord, that seems to be entirely on brand for him, but everything he does to get to that goal is just stupid.

Aang arrives, they talk, Aang says "I don't matter", and then Iroh, who has sidled past the Glowering Firebenders Who Do Nothing Else, shoots the fish out of Zhao's hands. And then, as Zhao is on the ground, reaching for the fish with his special stabbing implement, Iroh forgets that he can shoot fire out of his hands, and lets Zhao stab the fish.

AND THEN Iroh, who literally stood by two different times and let Zhao kill the fish, decides to kick everyone's ass. And the Glowering Firebenders do nothing. One of them just stands in the background. Iroh doesn't even attack that guy.

In the original, Iroh immediately leaps into action after Zhao kills the spirit by means of surprise attack, takes out Zhao's guards in about a second, and Zhao escapes.

Here, he doesn't do anything at first except help Zhao find the spirit he doesn't want to see killed, then back down, then do something, then back down again, then do something again, then forget that he can do anything, and then he does something again.

It's just... so dumb. (So dumb it's brilliant!) No! It's just dumb!

And then, fifteen minutes later, after Zuko has dueled Zhao, Iroh kills him. Iroh just barbecues him by striking him from behind. Gee, Iroh, if you were willing to do that, why not just do it when Zhao was holding the fish?

Dishonorable mentions:

The fact that all of the actors fit their characters so well and have some great moments, but the show just doesn't support their performances at all. I feel so bad for all of them, being robbed of a chance to shine by some truly awful writing, editing and direction

The Ocean Spirit making Godzilla noises

June flirting with Iroh (didn't they say that they wanted to remove iffy stuff from the original? Well, that whole thing was iffy in the original. Why didn't you cut it entirely?)

Zuko doing the jazz hands to charge an attack

All the clunky and unnecessary exposition (for example: after Aang turns into the Ocean Spirit, Yue immediately turns to Sokka and narrates that Aang has turned into the Ocean Spirit, for almost 30 seconds)

The fact that Aang can only communicate with each Avatar at their shrines

The Ice Moon

The Cabbage Man literally turning to shout his line to the heavens while fire rages around him

The Secret Tunnel song being shoehorned in for no reason

Iroh's entire backstory being shoehorned in for no reason

Ozai being a caring dad actually

Zuko being shocked that Ozai prefers Azula

Gran Gran's speech

The fact that they showed Gyatso being killed by Sozin (literally nobody needed a big action scene, because that's what it was, predicated entirely on the genocide of the Air Nomads)

And finally, the fact that Sokka and Yue's reason for going to the Spirit Oasis is that Momo was fatally injured.

What if that night in Godric's hollow Lily chose to let Voldemort kill Harry and stepped aside when Voldemort asked her to?

Self-preservation kicked in! No one knows how they will react facing death. She should not be blamed for protecting herself.

Would she be honest and tell people what really happened or make up some believable story? What would happen to her after that night? Does she leave England? How would the Order/Sirius/Dumbledore react to the events? Would Severus go after Lily and tell her he is her hero? Would this be a better AU for Lily and the wizard world?

Woof.

It's not good.

Would She Be Honest and Tell People What Happened?

We don't really know much about Lily's character is the thing. I make a lot of things up for my own benefit, but that's my taking and running with the very little we see in canon.

We really don't know how she'd react.

The way I characterize her? Feeling guilty over her husband's death (who died for her and Harry) and the fact that she survived her son (who she perhaps could have protected) she'll confess to what happened. She wants people to blame and hate her so she can punish herself for this.

And judge and punish her they do as this is something the Order and the greater public just can't understand. I'm sure rumors of how and why Lily was spared also fly and soon Lily goes from the truth of simply stepping aside (and being spared because of Snape) to having slept with Voldemort to save her life to being his spy the entire time.

What Would Happen to Her After that Night?

The gossip against her is massive and I imagine the Order never quite trusts her again. They may not kick her out, though I'm sure some (certainly Sirius who is mad with grief over James's death) vote for it. Lily may leave of her own free will out of guilt and so as not to give the Order a black eye.

The Prophet may or may not run smear campaigns against her both to distract from the realities of the Ministry not managing anything against You-Know-Who and because this is such a shocking awful story.

Lily becomes persona non grata but is presumably left alone by the Death Eaters as Voldemort chose to spare her life and the order has been passed down through the ranks (and as Voldemort is alive he keeps Bella and the Lestranges and Barty in check in a way he didn't at this point in canon).

Lily lives a miserable life in which her husband and son are both dead, she's of no help to the cause, and she's trying to get on with it.

How Would the Order/Sirius/Dumbledore React?

See above but I imagine ostracization.

Sirius would never forgive Lily for James having died and Lily just selfishly allowing Harry to be killed. I imagine he'd blame her in his mind and believe that she had betrayed James personally by doing this. Not to mention what kind of a person/Gryffindor steps aside to let her baby be murdered?

The Order at large would likely have mixed opinions but the Weasleys for example would vocally condemn Lily and despise her for this.

Dumbledore would, I imagine, think much lesser of Lily and start saying things he says about Merope about how Lily just didn't love her son enough/wasn't a very strong woman. He wouldn't condemn her quite as much as Sirius or Molly but there'd be an undertone of "this happened because you are weak".

Would Severus Go After Lily and Tell Her He's Her Hero?

Severus is home free, you bet your ass he does.

Lily's probably out of the Order, James Potter his greatest enemy is dead, Sirius is out of the picture because of James's death, even the hellspawn Harry Potter is dead and out of the way.

They can now go back to exactly what they were and the Dark Lord did hold to his promise after all (and oh dear god Severus betrayed him behind his back, hope he doesn't find out about this).

I imagine Severus would try to reconnect and either:

lie about being a Death Eater entirely (probably won't work)

say he's realized the error of his ways, admit to giving the information to Dumbledore to save Lily's life, but he can't leave the Death Eaters because of the mark/he'll certainly be killed

Probably he goes with option 2 as he can't exactly pretend he never held his views or wasn't a Death Eater at all and he firmly believes that he took this huge risk, saved her life, and he's completely redeemed now.

Would This Be a Better AU for the Wizarding World and Lily?

Well.

Lily's son and husband died horribly, she's haunted by survivor's guilt forever, all her friends hate her and she's completely isolated, Snape is back on her doorstep believing she should be grateful to him for his actions and he deserves instant forgiveness, and the Dark Lord is still alive and well, has the future minister's son in his pocket, has infiltrated the government completely, and can take over any time he pleases with one out of two prophecy children dead (and Neville... probably doesn't last long after this).

So.

No.

It's better for 0 people.

It's actually much worse for everyone except Tom.

Anyway, I was wondering if you could do headcannons for mc who's a classical musician but is too shy to say that they are to tamarack and qiu? And one day mc just plays their instrument for them?

Ohhh this is really cute, mainly because Tamarack is canonically a classical music lover 😭 i know jazz and samba dont count but i just really enjoy instrumentals a Lot so here we go!

This is gonna actually be step 3 in mind since i like the idea of mc starting band in step 2 and then admitting in step 3!

Btw i do hcs and stuff for step 3, but obviously a lot of these might be not canon by the time the game comes out in full so there's that disclaimer neow

Qiu Lin

While they're definitely not as musically gifted as say Tamarack, they definitely do have a high respect for those who play instruments and play them well. So naturally it comes as no surprise to them when they hear that the MC plays an instrument

However, he never actually heard the MC play anything unless they were in band! When they were younger, Qiu never pried or tried to figure out what the MC sounded like by themself when they were starting out. It's something he absolutely wants to kick his 14 year old self for because now the MC is too shy to even play for them

Until at last, the MC wanted to play something for them at their house, and of course Qiu going to say yes! Qiu wasn't an asshole this time around!

Qiu might not be the most attentive or can sit in place for too long, but you bet their ass they did for this song until it was completely done. Granted, it took all of their strength not to fidget or write something down on their phone but they powered through

Afterwards, I do think Qiu would most definitely ask if it's classical and that it's really cool to finally find out the MC's favorite genre. Though I can imagine the MC being like "Huh? Why didn't you ask?" When they find out Qiu has been dying to know and Qiu has to admit that their 14 year old self was too chickenshit to ask

It's also good to keep in mind, too, cause that means if Qiu has a recital and the MC knows the song Qiu has to dance too, they can practice together! Qiu can practice dancing to the music and the MC can practice the song.

Tamarack Baumann

Now, this I feel like starts a bit different than Qiu because Tamarack does really enjoy classical music as well so I can imagine her actually getting the MC into it but because their shy and/or have a crush on Tamarack, they don't tell her about it just yet

They do play band together though qnd while I imagine Tamarack has played solo numerous times, the MC is far too reserved for a solo at the time so she doesn't know either what the MC sounds like on their own and unlike Qiu, she would have definitely wanted to practice in step 2 with them but never got the time

So when it comes up in step 3, Tamarack is jumping for joy, both figuratively and literally. After she calms down a bit, she sets up her living room and gets very cozy to prepare to listen to the mc. She wants to really give them the time and attention they deserve

Naturally when the MC starts playing a classical piece, she immediately recognizes the song but she doesn't speak until after the mini performance. Though the entire time she is bopping her head and humming a little. It's very cute.

After the MC finishes, she immediately starts gushing about how good they were on top of knowing the song and asking if the MC is a fan of classical music like she is. And trust and believe, Tamarack becomes estatic when she finds out they do! Thus they have a very engaged conversation over some baked goods and tea about classical music like what artists they prefer, what's their favorite instrumental group, etc

Also, the first thing that popped into my mind when I got this ask was Tamarack asking the MC if they can play together as a duet, and I think the idea is adorable. Especially if the MC's instrument compliments Tamarack's cello playing. I think they would practice and perform together for friends and family if someone asked.

do y'all remember those fics where mc is a daughter of the president or sm and harry is her wildly toxic bodyguard?

can you imagine if he like wasn’t toxic and lowkey annoying?

Like he’s still broody and glares at anyone who gets too close and she’s girly and loves chatting to people so they're total opposites

But she's also a total sweetheart to everyone, including Harry. She buys him meals on campus, and clips for his hair because she notices it always gets in the way, and makes him friendship bracelets, which at first she thinks he won’t wear but then the next morning she sees it peek beneath his uniform. She can't help but smile because the big bad navy seal was really a big softie

He wasn't really a big softie, though, he just had a teeny tiny soft spot for her, and for some reason it keeps growing.

And he doesn't keep her from going on dates or having fun, he just goes with and watches her from afar, though if anyone even looks at her the wrong way he's kicking their asses. And not just because it’s his job but because he wants to keep her safe for other reasons he can't explain.

And when she's having friend problems, whether that be she's not making any or they only want to be her friend because she's rich, he cheers her up by taking her shopping or to her favorite restaurant off campus or letting her paint his nails pretty pastel colors while they watch her favorite movies.

They grow so comfortable around each other that they have this unspoken language, like they can kind of just look at each other and know what the other is thinking. It’s mostly her wiggling her eyebrows at Harry when people ogle him while they’re in line for coffee or in one of her classes or crossing the street or—well, you get the idea.

They have their routine unintentionally memorized—he does yoga in his room while she says her morning prayers/meditates and uses the bathroom for her lengthy skincare routine, after class, she sits and does homework in the gym lobby while he works out, which she'll occasionally join in on from time to time, and every first Friday of the month they have dinner with her parents, which is Harry’s one night off, though as time goes on he realizes he doesn't really want to be doing anything else but hang out with her.

And so maybe one night she's studying for a test. She's wearing his crew neck because it was the first thing she found in the clean laundry pile and all hers had coffee or paint stains on them because she'd recently discovered that painting was her new favorite pastime. She's chewing on her pen and her glasses are slipping down her nose. Harry's trying to do a crossword puzzle in his copy of the day’s newspaper—something she teases him relentlessly for because, “that’s something my grandpa does”—but he can't focus.

She's attractive, obviously, but he's always been aware of that. She wears cute patterns and bandanas in her hair and puts kitschy earrings on before school. Her nose scrunches in the cutest way when she smiles and sometimes she snorts when she laughs. He was pretty sure she had a tattoo, but she swore up and down she didn't.

He knew all that before, but he's suddenly punched in the face by all her quirks, and he has no idea why.

“What?” she eventually asks him when she notices his blank stare in her direction. She knows he would never be into someone like her. He worked for her mother for one, a very important ambassador or congresswoman or something like that, but there's also the age difference. Harry isn't technically that much older than her, but the fact that she's in school and he isn't, and he's well...he's Harry.

He��s tall and strong and probably knew how to kill someone a number of ways and she wore panda bear themed pajamas to bed every night. Them being together was laughable.

And yet, neither of them looks away, almost like they can't. He's noticing she has a single freckle by her left eye and she feels like she can name the exact shade of his eyes. It feels like a cosmic moment, like everything is falling into place. But then her phone rings and the moment is over, neither of them eager to acknowledge whatever the hell just happened.

So both of them shake it off and go back to their normal business, only for the next few weeks they're extra careful around each other.

She thought she saw little hints and signs that Harry was into her, but he goes back to being grumpy and broody like when they first met, so she leaves it alone.

Maybe she even gets a boyfriend. Or at least starts seeing people. The first time she tells him why she's all dressed up, Harry wants to lock her in her room and, preferably with him in it, and not let her go. But that's a foolish thought, so he settles for a long lecture about the dangers of online dating that nearly makes her late for her date.

He can't do anything about it, so he just silently stews, praying that none of them stick even though he shouldn't.

But they don't, though she never tells Harry why. She can't tell him that none of them hold a candle to him, so she usually just shrugs and says, “he’s not the one.”

Except for the one time where a boy couldn't take no for an answer to the point where she hits her panic button, to which Harry replies to by storming into the back of the large house party and practically tossing him across the yard. He takes her home that night and makes her dinner, staying up with her to make sure she feels safe.

And when she finally falls asleep, she's cuddled up to him, her cheek squished from where it's pressed against his chest.

Harry looks down at where she's fast asleep, marveling at the mere contrast of their clothes. On paper, they absolutely shouldn't work, but somehow this person wiggles her way into his heart, melting his icy exterior. He knows he can't do anything about it, but it’s foolish to deny the truth at this point.

He's so gone for this girl, this girl who buys flowers for her dates and cries when she watches nature documentaries with him because, “The circle of life is necessary but so brutal.” This girl who took the time to sew his shirt up when he ripped a hole in it and offers to tie his shoes when they come undone. This girl who is destined to follow in her mother's footsteps one day but actually just wants to run an animal shelter.

She's special, there's no doubt about it. And if Harry can't be with her, then he'll do everything in his power to protect her from anything and anyone who tries to hurt her.

One can only imagine the humiliation someone can experience when they're weeping on the small, sharp rocks laid out in front of the house they once called home. Their fragile body can do nothing but shake and tremble as tears fall continuously down their hot face.

Those in Samoa who didn't have properly built walls around the comfort of their home, just a few pillars to hold a roof, were expected to hear the commotion from the larger house that they enclosed.

"Ga'o lou kē kē mai i lou kaemaile," A voice spat. A voice that held such authority over the poor teenagee that trembled on the ground. "Alu ese ma i!" [1 - just looking over here, you dogshit] [2 - get away from here!]

"Fa'amole, tinā. Fa'amagalo mai iā ke a'u," A held-back cry had been broken into a fit of multiple coughs. Sweaty palms had clasped together as if in prayer, trembling in the cold night, their hot cheeks that stung from numerous blows to the face had only added to the displeasure. The disgust. The shame. [Please mum, forgive me]

Siana was only 17 when she was kicked out of her family home. She was a disgrace, a disappointment, anything but a daughter in her parent's eyes. Her title as a Chief's and Pastor's only daughter was stripped away from her, leading to nothing. 17, pregnant, and with the little money she had in her pocket, she endured a walk of shame as eyes watched her leave her village. She was left living in the streets of Apia.

There isn't much a girl at her age can do when alone with little money and dressed in clothes that'll start to stink within the next day or two, as well as jobless. She most definitely wasn't going to be comfortable sleeping on the hard, freezing floor in front of the small shops she used to hang around with her friends. And she most definitely wasn't going to find it easy sleeping at all near those who were homeless, those who she made fun of with her friends for not having a proper roof over their heads. Now look at her. Alone, cold, and homeless.

Her knowledge of the work field was limited to nothing. How could she know anything? She was a spoilt child with no sense of knowledge on anything but her wants and needs. She didn't think that other teenagers her age needed to work because she didn't. She had money, food, a warm place to sleep; and necessities that people her age had to work for when their parents had it hard.

Nonetheless, Siana found herself sitting down, head and back against a wall while she had her arms wrapped around her legs that were clutched tight to her chest. There, she slept for the night.

Miguel had woken up in annoyance, scratching the back of his head roughly as he sat up. Heavy hands run through his soft brown hair, "Fuck," he mutters. He looks over to his alarm clock and it reads 3:16 am. Miguel wasn't the type to wake up in the middle of the night for nothing. Something had reached his ears, he's not crazy, he knows he isn't.

He sighs and tries not to think too deeply about his sudden awakening, now resting his back against the headboard. Sucking in a deep breath, arms now crossed against his chest. He closes his eyes to relax, taking in the silence and slow breathing as a source of meditation. He doesn't remember much of his dream before it was ruined. What he does however remember, is holding the face of the most beautiful girl he's ever laid his eyes on.

Her face was like a puzzle piece that fit perfectly between his larger hands. Her doe eyes caught him in a trance, long eyelashes fluttering up at him. Miguel's hands were gentle with her, a thumb strumming against her smooth cheek, admiring her eternal beauty. Ever so plump lips curve into a gorgeous smile, then form into a shy grin as her eyes avert their gaze from his own. Honey brown eyes are forced to look into his own as he chuckles deeply, his head tilting as he follows her moving gaze.

"Look at me, Manaia," he finally whispers to calm her flustered state. She complies, now looking at up him with those same beautiful eyes. His eyes drop down to her lips as they open, "Miggy-"

"M-Mh! Gabriel" a distorted whimper calls out from the room next to Miguel's.

Then he finally hears what woke him up. He knew it, he knew he wasn't crazy.

Annoyed and furious. Miguel rushes and rips away his sheets from himself, getting up and putting on his night glasses. Too enraged, he walked out of his room without a shirt, the cold air of the early hours in the morning was most definitely not his main concern.

Without knocking, Miguel opens the door to Gabriel's room.

Gabriel whose face turns into disbelief, grabs his blanket to cover the lower half of his body at the sound of his door being opened.

"What the fuck is wro-"

"Who is it?" Miguel stomps closer, not caring about whatever the fuck he caught his brother doing.

"What-" Gabriel reaches along his bed and puts on his shirt that was disregarded an hour prior to cover himself more at each step Miguel took.

"Hang the fucking phone up," his nose flares, eyebrows creased. Not caring for answer, a loud bang is heard when Miguel hoists Gabriel by the collar of his shirt and slams him against his headboard, to which Gabriel groans, his own hands trying to push Miguel away, "Who the hell were you calling!?" Miguel yells.

If Gabriel weren't much of a fool, he would've noticed the slightly hurt tone in his older brother's voice. He could've also seen the tears that threatened to fall.

"Fuck! Get off me!" his hands flare everywhere, "I already hung up when you barged in like a fucking psycho!"

Still not getting the answer he needed, Miguel pulls his brother forward and harshly back against the headboard. Gabriel coughs harshly. Miguel sucks a breath in. He had to ask. He had to know.

And with what he asks, and what answer he gets is going to be all on him for being too overdrawn by emotion.

With a shaky breath, he glares into Gabriel's soul, "Was it Manaia you were on call with?

Gabriel, now stunned, his flaring hands had rested against his bed to keep himself up. A smirk arose on his face, all shock and anger had been thrown away. With a prideful grin, he chuckles deeply, "Yeah, it was her, Miggy. Got a problem?"

There was no way. There was no way in Hell it was her.

"Show me. Show me your fucking call history," he watches Gabriel grab his phone, "Don't move your phone away and delete shit. Unlock your phone and show me, Gabriel."

As Gabriel unlocks his phone, he taps onto the call app and shows his history.

Miguel's heart drops and shatters into pieces. Lo and behold the top name on his call list.

Sione whines into his arm, "Stupid Samoan," he cries. Hiding his face in the arch of his bent arm, the other arm stretched out to watch his screen turn black. He sends a quick text confirming his part in the favour.

"Good morning, Sione," Miguel greets from behind, "Are you okay?"

Sione turns around and is met with Gabriel instead.

Oh.

Sione had forgotten how eerily similar, yet oddly different the O'Hara brothers were. The voice, hair, and face in some way were nearly the same.

Gabriel hadn't been in his new high school for more than two months, and people already mixed him up with the older O'Hara. None can blame him. One can, however, distinguish who was who if they tried.

Miguel was taller. On the buff side. Speaks only when spoken to. Most of all, he never talks to girls in the way they want to be spoken to, let alone touched. Miguel doesn't talk to girls in general, unless it's Manaia. For good reason, of course.

But now that reason was gone.

Gabriel on the other hand? He was lean and tall, but overthrown by his brother. For sure, friend requests were blowing up his phone by the time he had gotten home on his first day.

Sione nods his head in acknowledgement, "Uh yeah, yeah, m'fine. Thanks, Gabriel."

As much as Sione was desperate to befriend the younger sibling of his close friend, he wanted to back out of that idea. The eagerness compared to weeks ago was gone. He had no relation to Gabriel outside of school like he did with Miguel, and he had a feeling as to why. So he distanced himself from Gabriel as much as he could.

"Ah, good morning, Miggy," Gabriel sends a smirk to Miguel, the said boy who makes his way over to both of the teenagers.

Sione feels relief at the sight of his friend.

Miguel grumbles, his piercing eyes never leaving Sione, not wanting to ever look his brother in the eye. He takes a seat beside Sione, facing away from Gabriel, who stays standing up.

"Morning, Miguel. Manaia said she'd be here late, BUT- she does want to talk to you," he wraps a friendly arm around Miguel's shoulder. He feels disheartened when he gets shrugged off.

He chuckles dryly, looking over to Gabriel, "Like she'd want to talk to me. She was talking an awful lot last night with Gabriel."

"Huh? What do you mean?" Sione asks.

He looks back and forth between Miguel and Gabriel. To this, Gabriel just shrugs and lets out a small laugh before walking off.

"Oh, you're so funny, Gabriel!" a chuckle had left Manaia, she covers her mouth as she continues walking.

She has just arrived when the first break of the day started. She was greeted by Gabriel first, she didn't have a chance to find the rest of her friends as his arm was already draped along her shoulder.

Losing track of time, the bell had already gone as they spent their time together laughing and mucking around together.

Manaia while slightly disheartened at not seeing Sione, she turns to look at Gabriel.

"I have to go now, Gabri. I have English with Sione and Miguel now," she doesn't fight back a smile at the mention of the said O'Hara. Gabriel notices and bites back a smile himself.

"Oh right, yeah, Miguel," he looks down at the beautiful girl and gives her a feigned sad look. "You're interested in my brother, I'm guessing?"

Manaia hides her face in her hands, "No, not at all!"

"Hm, sure, sure."

All she had to do was say yes, and his plan was intact.

"Now, I thought you were a good girl. Don't good girls tell the truth?" Gabriel raises a brow, his free hand tickling her side.

She giggles, "Okay! Okay!"

She stops her steps, and Gabriel follows.

Now completely facing him, she takes his hands into hers and sways side to side to keep herself content, trying to ignore the shy feeling deep inside of her at the thought of Miguel.

"Miguel and I had a bit of an argument not too long ago," she shows a small pout, "But I want to be close to him again."

Perfect.

"Oh? That's perfect. I can help you out, Manaia," his charming smile hid his devious smirk.

Everything was in his favour.

Imagine Meeting DMC 2 Dante

So, I finally got around to playing DMC 2 and Dante is so much more stoic in that game than he is in any of the others. He doesn't talk much and is just a very serious lad compared to the other games where he is the wacky woohoo pizza man.

Capcom trying to make him this way didn't hit too much and I'm sure the rest of the fandom can agree from what I've seen from other reviews.

This isn't where this post is getting at tho.

Seeing Dante more like Vergil in this game had me thinking.

What if this is the Dante you met?

Imagine having baby Nero, walking around Redgrave, and seeing the white-haired man. He's in red so you know it's not the man you met a few years back but maybe he's at least related. It couldn't hurt to check, right?

So you walk up to him and he doesn't say anything but he does notice Nero. And Dante immediately thinks that the boy is his. And he's confused and a little scared. He wasn't made to be a father, especially not with the life he lives.

So he tries to let you down easily and leave the situation as soon as possible. He tries until you say, "I watched you go the first time, I can't let you go again. Please, even if you aren't him, I need someone related to him. Nero needs his family and I'm the only one."

And Dante realizes you are Vergil's mate and this was Vergil's offspring, Dante's kin. And a protectiveness washes over him and he instantly feels the need to protect you, the boy, and kick Vergil's ass the next time he sees him, no matter the man's condition.

So with a few words, Dante takes you back to the DMC building and gives you one of the upstairs spare rooms, and helps you take care of Nero. He tells you about Vergil and their family and in turn, you tell Dante about how you and Vergil met and about his new nephew.

He helps you raise the boy as he becomes the moody, sarcastic hotheaded teen we see in DMC 4. And at some point Nero does ask about his father and you both tell him and he still hates Vergil just as much as he does in DMC 5.

And seeing Dante become this light-hearted, wacky man over the years kind of helps soothe you and you could see yourself living the rest of your life helping Dante with his business, even if it's just as his financial advisor.

And when Dante and Nero go on their mission in DMC 5 and Dante finds out it's his brother behind all this, that battle at the top of the Qliphoth is much more heated and Vergil can tell this is something more than just getting back at his brother for opening a portal to hell and trying to become the ruler.

So when they're walking through hell, Vergil has to ask. "I know there is more to this than our old rivalry."

Dante hums. "Yeah, it is."

"Enlighten me then brother." "Nero, he's yours." "I thought we established that already?"

Dante chuckles. "Yeah but not about his mother."

Vergil looks at his brother curiously. "Is she alive?" "Very much so. She's been staying with me since we were 30. She came to me on the streets, begging me to stay thinking I was you. She's quite the woman, Vergil, I can't believe you let her go."

Vergil hums, nodding.

You will always be grateful for Dante letting you in and helping you out. And Dante will always feel like he's in debt to you even if it should be the other way around. Because you are his family, and he will do anything and everything to make sure you never end up like the lost woman who came begging for his love and approval all those years ago.

One thing I'm really getting sick and tired of is how people low ball Hinata in terms of her abilities and her feets despite the fact that she is actually stronger than most of the Naruto characters that we've seen on screen. I mean for crying out loud Hanabi is one of the strongest people of her generation yet Hinata kicked her ass despite not being active for over a decade. Just because a character hasn't been shown to do as much things doesn't mean they're not powerful or don't have impressive feats I mean has anyone ever forgotten about Shino? Another character who is possibly one of the most overlooked characters who's possibly one of the strongest characters yet doesn't get much showings.

Or what about our boy Rock Lee? He hasn't really done much yet he's one of the strongest Shinobi of his generation. They have gotten the chance to do anything like they yeah we have Sakura fans over hyping her character none of her feets are really that impressive. The 100 healings has to be one of the most misunderstood an over-hyped feats that Sakura has her feets are nothing to write home about all she is is basically a weaker Tsunade. Let's not even get started on how 100 healing is bullshit it was only given to her because Kishimoto had to give her something because how pathetically weak she was compared to Sasuke and Naruto she got it because of plot and it was an organic it wasn't foreshadowed compared to everyone else who legitimately earned the feats that they have.

I know if we go out of the Konoha level she is likely top 4-5. Her taijutsu is top tier and the gentle fist and Byakugan are overpowered. The only reason Hinata hasn't been shown much cause she is that strong that unless there is a huge difference of power it makes no sense for her to lose. Just take a look at Pain Hinata is the only character that has managed to blitz him and land hits when his jutsu wasn't on cooldown, not even Kakashi, Choza and Choji could manage that.

Fact is put Hinata against most of the Akatsuki is stacked in her favour the gentle fist and Byakugan are a hard counter for almost anything. Literally I think only Itachi, Kisame, Pain and Obito can deal with her properly everyone else even if she can't beat them one on one her Byakugan and gentle fist give a big advantage.

Plus that is only if Hinata sticks to the gentle fist, she also has lightning and fire change in chakra nature. If she add them to it can you imagine what she can do. Heck with the Byakugan she could even pull of Chidori if she was taught it.

Like I made a post ages ago about her lion fist its truly OP and shows how amazing Hinata is. If she got more spotlight she would be kicking ass there is a reason she has only fought the best of the best at those point in the story as other then them few can deal with Hinata.

Agreed Sakura is average at best her feats are only pulled off by surprise or cause she gets carried. Then the 100 healing does not make her stronger in anyway just makes her harder to die it means nothing when even Chunin level ninja can one shot her.

Dating Jeff Clarke would include/headcanons (part 1) :

- Him feeling like he was finally in a relationship where he and his needs also mattered as with his ex wife Lisa, it felt like it was always her that mattered. she was never there for Jeff, never did anything nice for him and when he needed someone after he came back from Iraq, she was distant and wasn't there for him when he needed her the most before she cheated on him again and left Jeff to go stay with her sister, while starting a relationship with a new guy, leaving poor Jeff to deal with his severe PTSD when he needed her the most. With you, it's different and he loves how you are there for him and does anything he can to show you how much he loves and cares about you. With Lisa, he did at first do effort on cooking, but she never appreciated his efforts and soon Jeff stopped making any, and it's why they never ate any homecooked meals because Lisa didn't want to make any effort and Jeff was too tired on making any efforts as she never appreciated it, so the two ate only frozen meals and Jeff hates them. When you cooked him for the first time, he was blown away as you had made time and put effort into making Jeff's favorite dish and baking his favorite pie. In that moment, he knew you were a keeper and knew he would do anything he in his power could to make you happy and make you know how much he loves you. He also grew to love cooking and baking again and would do anything he can to show you how much he loves you, in the forms of cooking and baking your favorite dishes and desserts.

- With Lisa, he was never jealous as he had somehow "settled" with her and had grown to tolerate her cheating. Did he like how she was never there for him and cheated him? No, but he literally had no one and he was in a dark place and he knew he couldn't cope alone. He didn't trust Lisa either. But when he first met you, he was already jealous of how the guys noticed you and how Kelly Severide, one of your closest friends hugged you, Jeff felt jealous and it was a new feeling for him and he didn't know why he felt that way, but he felt jealous beyond imagination. With Lisa, he had never felt that way, wanting to kick someone's ass out of jealousy. When you two started to date, he was still jealous, but he trusts you with everything he got and knows you would never hurt him.

- After his PTSD, Jeff doesn't like if people touches him, same went for Lisa, but when you touched him for the first time after wanting to make sure Jeff was alright after a bad call, Jeff felt relaxed and he liked the feeling of being hugged and literally pulled you closer, inhaling your scent. He loved how it reminded him of home and he felt like he was home. He felt safe and you have been the only person who never made him feel that way. With you, if you hug him, he'd pull you even closer.

- He always shows how much he loves you by writing you cute text messages and leaving you cute notes on your locker. He's not a biggest fan of PDA, but he won't mind kissing or hugging you in public, but he prefers to show you how much he loves you by sending you notes and telling you in person how much he loves you.

- If you are in the harms way, the person who harms you better beware of the wrath of Jeff as he won't let the person who harmed you to get away. He would make sure you are okay and would hold you close in his arms before he would punch the person who harmed you. If you are hospitalized, he'd be there by your side, holding your hand and if you would ask, he would get on the hospital bed and would hold you close, feeling happy you are alive as he knows he wouldn't survive if you would die. There is no world for Jeff without you, the love of his life.

- When you tell him you are pregnant by his baby, he would be shocked at first, but would feel extremely happy as he had always wanted to be a father. He would talk to your belly daily, would rub your belly and during ultrasounds and sonograms when you two would hear the baby's heartbeats for the first time, he would cry cause that was his and yours baby there.

My School President Episode 5: Ah, youth...

This show gets better every episode. So full disclosure: I love love LOVE musicals, and I did not expect this to actually be a musical, so when it was essentially cemented this episode with the final number that this isn't musical-adjacent, this isn't musical-esque, this is TOTALLY an actual musical...besties I ascended. I am 150% in the tank for this show. This week, Chinzhilla (and everybody else) get a dose of reality and retreat to their individual corners to think long and hard about the future, and our secondary couples reveal themselves.

I said it last ep, but this show is really so much about the importance of working toward your dreams and having somebody in your corner while you do that. This week Chinzhilla's setback isn't caused by any external factor, but by reality invading their little bubble. Attending guidance counseling sessions serves as a harsh reminder that there is an 'after': after Hot Wave, after high school. Adulthood is lurking right around the corner, and with it the realities of earning a living. And while playing in a band with your friends is fun, the reality is for most of these kids it will never pay the rent, as much as they dream of it.

Gun as our protagonist carries the lion's share of the angst here, because he doesn't have a backup plan, this is his only dream, and if it doesn't work out the stakes are much higher for him than for any of the others. His mother insists it's not his job to take care of her, but he sees how hard she works, and how exhausted she is, and how despite all of that she supports his dream, and his guilt is palpable. He can't imagine taking so much from her and not being able, in the end, to give anything back.

Tinn is having his own moments of doubt, questioning whether his dream of being a doctor is really his own or if it's his mother's. In episode 3, when he told Gun he became school president to help people, that wasn't all bullshit. Tinn's love language is clearly acts of service, that shows in everything he does for Gun this ep, including dragging him out of bed and whipping his ass into shape. Helping Gun helps Tinn, it makes him surer that he can give people what they need. And when Gun stumbles, when he breaks down, Tinn knows exactly what he needs then too.

Tinn is falling deeper in love by the day, and as he and Gun get closer, he gets more and more confident. He was outright flirting this ep, teasing Gun, complimenting him, being his cheerleader and almost his agent in a way. Tinn sees Gun so clearly, he sees his potential, he sees his flaws, he sees his talent, and he sees his weaknesses, he sees when he needs to be praised and when he needs a swift kick in the pants. As long as he's had this crush on Gun, now things are different; he actually KNOWS him now, he knows what drives him, what hurts him, what keeps him up at night. This isn't just a crush anymore, Tinn's falling in love.

And Gun is starting to fall just as hard for Tinn. His breakdown in Tinn's arms and Tinn both comforting him and alerting his mother that he isn't okay touched the soft squishy parts of him. He feels good about Tinn, and Tinn essentially declaring his intention to be with him and checking that he's ok with that allows him to acknowledge and accept that he feels good about Tinn in a romantic way. I love the conversation/interview in the band room and then the follow-on conversation they have lying next to the pool, because Gun is (surprisingly!) shy about liking Tinn, and it allows Tinn to now take the lead in this back-and-forth between them. His gentle teasing and Gun's shy smiles and blushes are a cute reversal of their dynamic, and I can't wait to see how it continues to unfold.

Ad Libs

I was surprisingly touched by Win and Sound, I didn't expect that to be so serious. It makes sense that somebody as diligent as Sound would get under slacker Win's skin and force him to face the fears that keep him from trying as hard as he can to make his dreams happen. The surprising part was how gentle and supportive Sound was with Win and how Win saw and appreciated that. Give me more of these two.

Tiw and Por is an interesting one and a bit left field, but again it's that...not opposites thing, but complementary thing? We've seen that Tiw is the wind beneath Tinn's dating wings; he's confident, he's bold, he's matter of fact, he doesn't mince words or mix matters, and a dose of that was exactly what Por needed.

I loved loved LOVED the closing number, when Ms. Gim starts singing and then the band members join in one by one, leading to them actually performing the song in the band room...fantastic. It's so hard to put a musical on screen in the modern age and make it feel fresh and of the moment instead of some retro holdover, and this show is doing such a good job of it. And next week it looks like there's a big dance number, which is my crack, so bring it on!

Gun's little jealous moment with the girls flirting with Tinn at the cafe was fun.

Tinn bringing back NobiTinn for the little faux interview...adorable. And Gun thought so too...

The way Gun held on to Tinn so tight as he sobbed into his shoulder...I have Feelings.

Ms. Gim is very astute, I think she sees what's happening between Tinn and Gun.

You try to grab it and yell at her, and Felix tries to help, bending over you to yank it, but Stella is too fast and sneaky for mere mortals. You mutter something about how it was your favorite scarf, and he looks down to apologize and--

He's almost taken aback. You have...an amazing jawline. Holy gods above, you could shred cheese with that jawline, and he for one finds that sexy. The way it frames the rest of your face, the way it moves when you speak

When you land in Astraea, you decide to go along with Anisa. She seems like the more reasonable of the three, and she'll probably get you answers as to why you got here and how to leave

You accompany her with taking the ambassador of Rivath to Porrima, and you notice she doesn't tell much about herself. You don't blame her, you're still just a stranger who happened to fall into her study unannounced

You wait with her as the ambassador goes into the woods to take a leak, and you fiddle with your scarf, keeping your chin to your chest. Anisa notices, but doesn't make a note of it. Maybe the scarf means a lot to you, and that's why you keep it on. She knows a lot of those types of characters in Porrima

You wait for three, five, ten minutes, and you're starting to think that elven bladders must be huge to be out there for so long. Anisa decides to look for them in the name of safety, and not wanting to be alone in a strange place, you follow her

The two of you find that the ambassador is, well, nowhere to be found. You search and search and the next thing you know, you're both sliding down into darkness

When you come to, you're all scratched up and you can barely see anything. You can see the faint outline of columns holding up the ceiling and you can hear Anisa and the ambassador arguing, but your eyes haven't adjusted yet

It's then where you notice that at some point, you lost your scarf in the fall. You start to panic, but no one's gonna see you. It's way too dark in here for that, so you shouldn't focus on that right now

Well. Too dark for you, but not for Anisa

Her Ilephta blood helps with her night vision, and when she sees you it almost stops her argument

She didn't think you'd be...this hot. My gods, the jawline really does help

That's what he thinks the scarf is to you, at least. He sees how you hold it close to your face, as if trying to remember something important to you. He doesn't wanna push though, so that's just what he assumes

You wear it all the time--breakfast, reading in your bedroom, in training. Especially in training, you focus a lot more than you should on making sure your scarf is in place

He decides that he has to break that habit

The two of you are sparring with swords. Training swords, of course, nothing that will actually hurt. You're both at a stalemate for a while, switching between offense and defense. You have one hand on your scarf, keeping your jaw hidden

He suddenly throws out a move that throws you off, long enough for him to knock the sword out of your hand, hook your scarf on his blade, and yank it away

Oh...now he knows why you hide your face

You're fucking gorgeous

You grab your scarf and hide your neck with it, blushing furiously. You ask why he would do that, and his eyes are just wide. He hasn't recovered yet lol give him a second

Of course he's disgusted by you. You decide to end that training session early and run back to your room to wait out the embarrassment. He hasn't recovered in time to actually say anything so he just watches you run off

A few hours later, you hear a knock on your door. The black tips of his ears are the first thing you see before his full head peeks in. He asks, rather awkwardly, if he can talk to you for a second

After you agree, he comes in and messes with a little trinket in your room as he gathers up what he wants to say

You can't focus so much on your scarf, especially in battle. It could get you killed. Had he had a real sword, your throat could have been slit

And that was it. That was the only reason he did it. He didn't mean to hurt you that badly, and he really is sorry

And damn it, you're hot underneath that scarf and you need to show it

He's definitely more proactive in helping you take off the scarf and enjoy who you are. He won't pull it off you when you're wearing it anymore, but maybe he'll hide it, or rub his head all over it so it's covered in his hair

i will add to this thou, I've seen a few people say that Derek is too much like Clarke Kent and that he would have a completely different parenting style and while I do somewhat agree we have to remember that people tend to act different around their family and especially with their kids than they are with other people. It's also been a lot of years where he has changed alot to fit having to raise a child by himself (who tf is Eli's mom and where is she?; Jeff said he wanted to explore that in another movie) plus he had to change, S2 Derek would be a terrible father and Eli would've been so fucked up

When you take your mask off for the first time, it's when part of it is destroyed. And he's awestruck. He shakes from it rather quickly and smirks. Damn, Y/N. You were hiding such a cute face under that mask. But as much as he'd love to flirt with you more than he usually did, he needed to make sure you were okay. Alright, so maybe his motive was to inspect your face a bit closer, but he was concerned! Damn these conflicting emotions.

You are quite the sight to behold. He had imagined your face many a times, but his mind could not imagine the beauty that you radiate.

"Urianger! Stop staring at help them out!" He would manage to snap out of his daze thanks to Thancred. Although he was embarrassed, he had a job to do.

At least it means Takeda can be as fussy as he wanted to be afterwards, with Jacqui unable to escape his charms -- or well, his clinging nature and praise. Her tech-gloves off, knuckles bruised and bloody, Takeda has zero hesitation in kissing the backs of her hands even so, absolutely enamored with all of her, from head to toe, blood and grime and all.

It wasn't like he was any better at not being covered in viscera… If anything, he was the worst one of the two.

"Does anything hurt? Bet your back does, you're kinda carrying us to victory here." If Cassie or Jin were here, he'd imagine them gagging at their sappy display right about now. "Wait, is that your blood or theirs? Sorry, didn't expect that guy to fall on top of you." Headless corpses, hard to predict where they'll decide to fall even with all the finesse in the world -- he did get shot in the shoulder while performing the fatality, however, so it wasn't like it could be avoided. For his part, he'd probably be sore for days, but his body armor protected him from the worst of it.

Wonka Review

I was skeptical about this film since I first heard of its announcement a few years ago. And then, I forgot about it until I heard it came out, like right the fuck out of nowhere back in December. I was surprised to see all the hype it got. I mean, clearly this was meant to be cash grab, right? Well, apparently, it surprised a lot of people. And I decided to go see it in the theater because after all, it IS a Willy Wonka movie, so at the very least, it should be fun right?

...

Barely.

Story

Right off the bat, I had little care about the story. Wonka, at first glance, is kinda an idiot. He signs a contract, ignoring a young girl's warnings, which leads into the film's conflict of needing to pay it off. And then, other chaos ensues after he sells chocolate without a store and Wonka is publicly shamed. Look, I don't know what things were like in the 1900s, 1800s or whatever, but is it really illegal and/or morally wrong for someone to sell their own products without a store in that time period?

Anyway, by that point, I could pretty much tell where the story was going.

I really don't care to explain the plot any further. It's just a boring origin story about a man trying to make chocolate while facing the bad guys (because we always need a bad guy for a story). You might as well watch the movie Chocolat instead. It has all the usual hollywood tropes and beats. Character wants something, they do something stupid because of plot reasons, people kick their ass because they're assholes, they partner up with the annoying sidekick who tries to brighten things up when things get tough, they get chased by bad guys, BIG action sequence, disney death, orphan finds out their family is alive plot twist, everyone is happy as they can be, the end. It's another movie made to milk a popular franchise and really not worth your time and money. If you're really curious about it, wait until it streams.

Not gonna lie, I do think a Willy Wonka origin story COULD work if they were willing to expand on the creative world he gave us in the movie and book, but the film barely even does that. It just throws in a few special effects and calls it a day.

Characters

It's been a long time since I've seen the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory film, but from what I remember, Wonka had a lot of character. He was bubbly, zany, quirky, cheerful, and full of energy. This Wonka has barely any of that or any personality at all. He's imaginative and determined, but that's about it. He's also quite ignorant as well (which I don't remember the original Wonka being at all). It doesn't even feel like the same Willy Wonka.

Noodle is your average sassy, optimistic, precocious child sidekick. She wasn't really necessary. Just Hollywood shoving in child characters to appeal to their young audience. Noodle could've been an adult and it would still make just as much sense.

I don't have anything else to say about the other characters because there really isn't anything special to say about them and I don't remember shit about them.

I will say there are some witty dialogue here, but that's about it as far as characters go.

Acting/Music/Special Effects

The movie does well with all of these for the most part. The songs aren't the most memorable, but I will start signing Scrub Scrub whenever I clean. All of the actors pull off amusing performances and do well with what they were given. Timothee Chalamet makes for a fairly bland Wonka, but it's not really his fault. The special effects look great and are about one of the few actually imaginative parts of the film.

Overall

It's pretty much everything you expect out of a Hollywood prequel/sequel/remake. Almost everything about it is pointless, uninspired, forgettable, generic, and flat. If anyone is willing to explain why the hype for this movie was earned, I would love to hear it. Nothing about the plot or characters interested me. It's basically Chocolat with some action and fantasy in it. Willy Wonka doesn't even feel like Willy Wonka. Characters hate on the main character and the main character gets himself into trouble because... plot I guess. It reeks entirely of corporate meddling and crunched time.

Wonka gets 3.9 bells out of 10

I'm pretty sure that this will be one of those things that will quickly age and be mostly forgotten fairly soon. Just watch the classic instead.
