hello it's gone half past two in the morning
(transcript under the readmore)
A lump caught in her throat, and Clio could see tears starting to form in her eyes again.
"Ari.."
"I have already lost so much.." she mumbled, voice wavering now as she brought a clawed hand to where her heart would be. "I don't want- I refuse to let anything else be taken. Whether by darkness, light, or any other aspect."
"I-" Clio began to speak, but could not find the right words, so she settled for coming over and sitting on her bed next to Aria instead.
"..It'll be okay." she tried again. "You're back in Daybreak Town now."
"A world of Dandelions, now." she muttered back. "The darkness was not safe for you, and it took something from me. But now, I fear the light here is not safe for me, for how much of it's present here."
Clio reached out to take Aria's hand again, gently running her thumb over the hard parts of her claws. In return, Aria leaned over to rest her head on Clio's shoulder, tilting her wing to embrace her.
There was a long, but comfortable, silence as the two sat there together.

Bruce: How was your class trip Damian?
Damian: It was quiet and productive Father.
Bruce: I’m glad to hear it. What was your favorite part?
Damian: I learned how to escape an Iron Maiden.
Bruce: …
Damian: …
Bruce: Explain please.
Damian: A boy Drake’s age taught me how to escape an Iron Maiden.
Bruce: How did he have that knowledge?
Damian: He claims his family has a dungeon full of medieval torture devices. I believe he may require further investigation.

Imagine:
Sam, who's still new enough at his job that he doesn't know the unspoken rule "If a dishevelled bloke comes looking for Gwen and claims to be her brother, pretend you don't know her and walk away".
So when a dishevelled bloke comes looking for Gwen and insists he must see her, it's a family emergency, you see, he's her brother, Sam, being a good lad at heart, gets him a visitor badge and takes him to see Gwen.
Who gets one glimpse of him, stands up with an, "Absolutely NOT, Elias, haven't I told you not to come here--"
"Hello, Gwen," says Elias like the headache that he is.
And the computer speakers crack in three voices in unison, "ELIAS BOUCHARD".

i really wish more people would get into Scarecrow as a character outside of the "hot" iteration of him cillian murphy played in Batman Begins because honestly he's such a nothing character there. he's really just Ra'as' 5-minute-screentime-having lackey, but he's magnetic because come on. it's cillian murphy.
i just want to grab people by the hand and gently guide them over to all the other delightful interpretations of him. look, guys. he's from georgia. he has religious trauma of the evangelical-adjacent variety so heinous it would make catholic guilt look like the greener grass on the other side of the fence. he once drugged batman just to follow him around on patrol while he hallucinated all night to psychoanalyze him and attempt to convince him to retire. he also once made him chamomile tea. he may or may not have changed his own last name to crane in reference to the fact that he was bullied in school by being compared to ichabod crane. because he was built like a skellington. sometimes he just has a gun and uses this in place of his typical fear toxin gimmick. in one iteration he gets fired from being a university professor for firing a gun in the classroom to prove a point. he generally tends to condescend towards everyone, but seems to get along with fucking harley quinn of all people specifically despite the fact that you'd think her positive attitude would give him a hernia. he's an absolutely batshit individual. he's shockingly self-aware and chooses to be terrible despite being aware of how terrible he is. he thinks he's batman's therapist. please i am begg in g y ou i know his glittery blue eyes and submissive attitude in batman begins are appealing but please there's so much to love here i beg of you look at him

Scrolling Instagram is always a mistake, but I’ve been seeing a lot of focus on tropes lately. Writers selling their stories using a bulleted list instead of, like, snippets or summaries, people who only consume media with certain themes while never bothering to branch out, stuff like that. I don’t have particularly strong feelings on tropes, but I do feel that reducing a piece of media to neat little boxes is kind of limiting.
It’s like looking at the foundation of a house. You can build something on that? Cool. But you haven’t. It’s not a house. It’s a slab of stone. One with potential, yes, but a slab nonetheless. I don’t care if it’s “friends to enemies, morally gray” if you CANNOT give me any characterization or depth outside of that.
You need to build on these things. A trope is a foundation. It is the base. YOU build from there. YOU put in the legwork to create. Use other tropes as the supports and cornerstones, but flesh out the walls yourself. Give me something that is hand crafted and made with earnest, even if it’s a shack.
“Ahh this work is shallow and falling apart!” In your attempt to remodel the house (you forcibly put things in boxes), you removed a load-bearing wall (erased important nuance), and now the structure is sagging (it’s narratively weak and cannot hold its own).
Maybe I’m being dramatic. If that’s the case, feel free to call me a goober and a loser and a fun-void. I don’t think I’m (entirely) wrong tho. Who knows.

valgrace at an arcade except jason SUCKS at claw machines and he’s just wasting credits or money because he really wants this one stuffed animal he had his sights on ever since they got there and once he gave up, leo takes a turn and gets the stuffed animal first try, handing it to jason before they’re off to the food court (jason couldn’t focus and even if he was, leo’s staring was too intense to ignore it)

ESPIRIT DE CORPS  — The lieutenant is aware that you adore him. Painfully so. You aren’t exactly subtle about it.
Oh god. I’m not? Oh fuck.
Good! I wasn’t trying to be *subtle* about it.
Hey. No need to get personal.
ESPIRIT DE CORPS — Sorry, boss. His thoughts, not mine.
In any case, he is aware. Your adoration is plain for all to see, even for such an island of a man as the lieutenant is. Or once was, perhaps. And his own feelings toward you are… difficult to describe, but they are there.
EMPATHY — Strong feelings.
ESPIRIT DE CORPS — He doesn’t know if they can be called love, but it is a thought that has occurred to him. In a broad sense, they surely are love of *some* kind, at the very least. You are his friend. He cares for you. And…
HALF LIGHT — And he is afraid of you.
EMPATHY — And he is afraid *for* you.
ESPIRIT DE CORPS — And he is afraid for himself.
YOU — Afraid? Why?
INLAND EMPIRE — You know why. Do not fool yourself. You, with the scaffold of you all awry. There is no part of you that offers him sure footing.
ENDURANCE — Even your body… One way or another, he knows that he’ll probably be the one to find you dead, and it could come any day.
I hope it’s soon.
I wouldn’t want it to be anyone else.
No! I don’t want to do that to him…
Wait a second! Who said anything about dying?! I’m turning over a new leaf! I want to live!
PAIN THRESHOLD — Oh, Harry… You still don’t understand, do you? You’re already dying. You’re a miracle, really. You know you nearly had a fatal heart attack just from stubbing your toe in the dark this morning? It’s no longer a matter of if, but when.
ELECTROCHEMISTRY — Hey, you’ve always known that you were gonna be here for a good time, not a long time! The lieutenant ought to take a page out of your book, instead of being such a miserable, lonely old man.
RHETORIC — No offense, but I don’t think that the partying has made you any less miserable, lonely, or old.
KIM KITSURAGI — Your partner takes another long drag of his cigarette, letting the smoke fill his lungs. He holds it there for a moment, then slowly breathes it out into the night.
ESPIRIT DE CORPS — He accepted a long time ago that this ritual may very well be the death of him, too. It’s a risk that he has made far more calculated by his rigid discipline. He would find it difficult to live without these small indulgences, but nearly impossible if he granted them too much power over himself.
And so it is with *you.* He can indulge himself with questions, imaginings. What it would be like to lower his spines and be a softer kind of animal. But he cannot give these feelings any more power over him than this, or it will be the death of him.
YOU — …Am I really so bad that I would kill him?
ESPIRIT DE CORPS — No. Worse than that, you would *change* him. You or anyone. To entertain the notion of true love as anything more than a pleasant, unattainable dream would be the death of the man that he has built himself into over the decades. He would become something so much smaller and more vulnerable. An animal with a soft belly exposed to the world.
YOU — Is that really anything to be afraid of?
HALF LIGHT — It is the only thing that there is to be afraid of.
INLAND EMPIRE — He is right to be afraid. The world is nothing but a series of patterns, so easily disrupted and changed and lost forever. There is no sense in any of it, no grand reason that makes any of it worth the terror and the pain. The world will swallow you both and then be swallowed whole. Après le monde, le gris. Après le gris… rien. There is nothing that either of you could offer the other to change this. In the face of it, your small bodies and your fleeting thoughts become so unbearably absurd.
VOLITION — No. It is bearable.
YOU — It is?
VOLITION — It is the only thing that there is to bear.

Poor baby, does it hurt so much? Not being able to move or speak for yourself? Having the vibe on your clit and those pretty ribbons wrapped around your wrists? Barely having my hands on you, which is what you waited so, so long for, all because you were so impatient? Touching your 'lil cunt as if you couldn't just wait for me to fuck you? I bet it hurts to be so overstimulated, so tortured— and aww, are you squirming? But isn't this what you wanted? To be fucked like the bitch you are? Oh, that's a shame. You brought this upon yourself, darling. If only you hadn't pushed my buttons all day then you wouldn't be here right now. If only you behaved, stayed patient, asked for it nicely, but no— you just had to be a little brat, with your tight-ass outfits and oh-so-innocent attitude. Acting all clumsy and bending over to tempt me, giving me that rogue look that I know all too well. I'm not that gullible, baby. So you fucked up big time, and now, you'll just have to endure your loss. Let's see how many orgasms it'll take for you to reach your breaking point.

Listen, I can't blame y'all when His Excellence Neil Gaiman hisself compared it to Dream walking out on his date with Hob to hit it off with Shaxberd upon learning about Eleanor and Robyn, but I feel like fixating on this interpretation only of the scene is a disservice to Morpheus' overall characterisation over the season.
Have you noticed how Hob calls "his friend" over to his table and that doesn't phase Morpheus at all then Dream doesn't even ask him whether he still wants to live before putting an end to their meeting ? It's unexpected from someone otherwise so strict and set on protocols ー even when he storms out in 1889, he already had Hob's answer to that question. Yet he leaves 1589 Hob without having formally asked the one question that justifies their centennial meetings.
That is because Dream knows, oh he knows what Hob's Heaven is like. He's had a wife and a son of his own once, and he knew what eternity by their side would be like, once. And he knows Hob has everything but Death on his mind then. He also knows ー or so he thinks ー what Hob's answer will be the next century. For Hob Gadling alone was granted immortality, not Eleanor, nor Robyn. And Morpheus knows what outliving one's son is like.
Morpheus' work in this tavern of the White Horse is done, but he's also taken back to the most traumatic event of his existence, one he won't recover from in two millennia and he can't look Hob in the eyes anymore, he needs a distraction, something, anything but having to confront his revenant grief. And there's that playwright loudly willing to strike a bargain with higher entities for the ability to create timeless dreams for humanity and there's his distraction, there's an escape ...
Comes 1689, Morpheus is certain of the outcome of this meeting. Sure, it will have taken the bugger three time the hundred years Dream had predicted Death, but no matter because it is true : nobody can bear an endless existence.
Then Morpheus learns about not only the expected death of Hob's son, but that it happened much earlier than it should have, devoid of a fulfilling lifetime for Robyn and of psychological preparation for Hob. Scythed in the prime of life, much like Orpheus. And within a close time frame to his wife's departure, too. Hob is holding up a mirror to Morpheus' own misery and the King of Dreams finds himself on the verge of tears. He is no longer smug as he offers Hob what he thinks of as an eventual relief.
Yet ... Hob doesn't take it. Somehow, somewhere, Hob Gadling finds it in himself to resist the tragedy of his life, to chose tomorrow, to decide that whatever the future holds, it is worth being there to see it.
And that is really when something kindles within Morpheus. No longer mere curiosity but a devouring fascination for Hob Gadling, his hopefulness and his resilience. He latches onto that man who shares his misery yet seem to have overcome it, or anyhow accommodated himself to it.
And when they meet again in 1789, and fortune has smiled upon Hob Gadling once again, Morpheus is much more open, much more attentive, much more interested. Who knows if he might not have given Hob his name even, hadn't lady Johanna Constantine interrupted him ?
By all means, Morpheus doesn't process their blooming bond. He's the anthropomorphic incarnation of the human or really, the living unconscious : there are numerous things passing through his mind at all time that he does not process. To him, he's merely monitoring the puzzling glitch that is Robert Gadling's will to live still, and waiting for him to eventually, inevitably renounce his immortality.
So when another century has passed and Hob asserts that their meetings are unnecessary for he won't ever renounce being alive but proposes his friendship, Morpheus is left reeling, faced with how much he has in common with this 'mortal' and his envy for Hob's resilience and capacity to forge ahead.
Naturally he takes flight and makes for an escape, lest he finds himself ensnared by his own grief ...

walburga sighed. “you are acting childish, regulus.”
“it’s not fair that sirius gets to sit with you, the rosiers and everyone else who is important and gets to have a polite and enjoyable conversation with everyone, and i’m stuck babysitting,” regulus hissed, spitting out the last word.
walburga clipped his ear, but soothed the sting with the rub of a gloved finger and a cold, silver ring.
“do not be ridiculous, regulus.” she tsked, looking at sirius with a frown, who had previously given his brother a superior smile. “sirius has to start fulfilling his role as the heir of the house, of course he has to sit with us and make conversation, like a good head of the house would; if that means you are to be stuck with taking care of the less… pleasant, then so be it.”
“it’s not fair!” regulus murmured, looking away from her. “why does he always get to do the less mundane things?”
“because i’m less mundane than you,” sirius chuckled; walburga gave him a look, under an arched, quirked eyebrow.
“don’t make fun of your brother, sirius.”
“i’m stating the obvious,” he chirped, as walburga sat up from her throne-like chair and brushed her dress down with an exasperated, exaggerated huff. an elegant one, black and sleek, a pearl necklace hugging her pale neck.
“i will have none of this puerile nonsense when at dinner. now, sirius, come with me and greet the guests. you, regulus,” she said, her fingers wrapping around the doorframe, “straighten your tie. it’s crooked.”

I love all the ideas of Court Sorcerer Merlin straight up running the kingdom. Whether it's the idea where Merlin and Arthur bet on Merlin 'taking over the kingdom' and him winning or alluding to the knights being more loyal to Merlin than to Arthur.
I want to put a spin on that.
There is the angsty idea of Arthur banishing Merlin for his magic and all of Camelot rising as one to either overthrow Arthur or rioting because they want Merlin back.
And there is the idea of it happening when Uther is alive. Where he finds out Merlin has magic and Merlin flees. And then all of Camelot has a simultaneous epiphany (if they hadn't had one already) that magic=good because Merlin=good. They work to overthrow Uther, and Arthur is the leader or silently helps out.
