MWRMI part 5
Tumblr media
My Weird Roommate, Midoriya Izuku
Week 3 Part 1 - Reality Check.
~•🥦•~
Summary: Living with pro hero Deku was too good to be true; when Midoriya doesn’t come home one night, Y/N realizes how painful it is to love the Number One Hero.
Warnings: Injured Deku, swear words, a hint of angst.
First part Master List
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~
After having Midoriya around you for a whole day the house feels cold and strange without the green haired nerd. Your moping got to a point when even All Meowt felt sorry enough for you to come out and keep you company so needless to say, you definitely look pathetic right now.
Sometimes, when the urge to see your flatmate got unbearable you messaged him about stupid things; random hero fun facts, fan arts, screenshots, a picture of you cooking his favorite meal and for your surprise, Midoriya responded to all of them.
After a while he also started to send you random pictures about his patrol; sometimes it was just a lovely picture of the sunset but sometimes they were grimy and disgusting; pictures of his injuries or a selfie of Midoriya with a massive black eye. Usually, by the time the greenette came home the injuries were gone thanks to the amazing healer guy they have on their team, but that doesn’t make it easier to see him like that. Being close to a hero isn’t a fucking dream, it’s more like a nightmare. You never know when it’s the last time you see him and you can never sleep soundly until you hear the door open; what if he ends up in a hospital and no one informs you? What if he comes home thinking he’s all okay but there is an internal bleeding killing him slowly while he sleeps?
Yeah, being close to heroes suck.
But let’s come back to the present now; to the present that’s also not so pleasant.
You wake up in the middle of the night to a notification on your phone; you dozed off on the table again while working on another project. The notification almost makes you throw up; it’s an article about a massive fight in the middle of the city, not too far away from your current home. You turn on the TV as the article states it’s being aired live; you can see pro hero Deku, barely standing on the sidelines while the rest of his team finishes the work in the middle. Dynamight manages to catch the last villain, so technically the heroes won, but you can’t help the tears trailing down your cheeks from seeing your friend wobbling to the nearest emergency station before passing out in the nurse’s arms.
You try to keep calm but you can’t stop yourself from sending him a message.
You: Please send me a message when you wake up, Midoriya!
Just as you expected, there is no response coming back. Fuck.
Thankfully, All Meowth graces you with his existence and lets you pet his fluffy little head. What a supportive little animal.
After a few dreadful minutes; 40, to be exact, there is a notification on your phone.
Midoriya: ….!hehdgeuehdbgenevrm
Midoriya: I!m oksbdgeb
Midoriya: fuxk
Midoriya: Hey Freeloader, stop freaking the shit out, I’ll bring him home as soon as he’s coherent. Make him some soup or some shit, the fucker didn’t take a break today. I’m also hungry by the way and I deserve a fucking serving.”
You don’t need to think twice to know who wrote that message. You sigh and take a deep, shaky breath.
He’s fine. He’s coming home.
~•🥦•~
“We’re home!” Dynamight’s loud and hoarse voice breaks through the silence.
In any other situation, you would probably take five to ten minutes to fangirl over the fact that Dynamight is here; he might be rough and abrasive towards everyone but his good looks and heroic deeds still managed to take him to the second place on the hero rankings; but right now, you can only see the green haired man who’s holding into his shoulders like he can’t even stand straight without help.
“Midoriya…” You run through the living room to check up on him but Dynamight puts his arms out to stop you in your tracks.
“He’s high.” He declares. “Our healer’s quirk likes to kick you in the ass when it’s overused. He’s not aware of his surroundings, so don’t even bother.” The blonde hero rolls his eyes and makes his way towards the kitchen, the greenette limping after him, still holding the guy’s shoulder like a lifeline.
“Izuku, we are going to eat and then you are going to bed, okay?” Dynamight pushes Izuku’s chin up to force eye contact; he speaks to him with a soft, reassuring voice like he’s a random toddler he found on the street. They sit down next to each other on the dining table then Izuku nods but doesn’t move towards his food; the blonde sighs and takes the spoon in his hand. “Open your fucking mouth, you big baby!” Dynamight screams at the clearly high greenette, who obeys without hesitation.
… it’s 5 fucking AM and here you are, staring at motherfucking Dynamight force feeding pro hero Deku with your soup at your fucking dining table.
This fanfiction got really weird, really quickly.
“Where is Y/N?” Izuku speaks up after gaining some color in his cheeks. You perk up at the sound of your name but you decide not to get involved in their conversation.
“She’s literally sitting opposite of you, you dump fuck.” The blonde grumbles, clearly fucking done with the situation.
“Is she okay?”
This is such a Midoriya thing to do that you can’t help but smile; the guy comes home after almost dying on the battlefield yet his first coherent question is about someone else’s wellbeing.
“No, she’s probably scarred for life after seeing me feeding you, to be honest.”
Well, what were you expecting from Dynamight, sugar coating? Nah.
“No…” Midoriya’s voice trembles. You really want to hug him. “I don’t want her to be mad. I don’t want her to leave!”
Fuck, your face is wet. You never ever want to see that look on Midoriya’s face, it’s absolutely heartbreaking.
“She’s not going anywhere you moron. She made this soup for you, so eat it.” Dynamight grumbles at him again, but Deku only smiles at him.
“What the fuck are you smiling at me for?” The blonde is clearly not a big fan of affection, his face contorts into a frown from all the cheesiness.
“Y/N’s soup is even better than yours.” The greenette answers with a lovesick smile on his face but apparently, this wasn’t the right thing to say as the blonde’s face heats up in anger.
“Now take that back you asshole or I’ll push this spoon down your fucking throat.” Dynamight looks like he’s about to explode but Deku is clearly unaffected by the empty threat.
“No, Kacchan is mad.” Midoriya’s shit eating grin is so huge it can probably be seen from the top of Mt.Fuji. The blonde decides he’s done with Deku’s shenanigans and literally throws the guy into his bedroom without a single warning. He comes out after five minutes and sits down on the sofa; he holds his hand out and stares at you until you put one and two together.
Ahh, he’s asking for food.
“I really wanted to hug him before he goes to sleep.” You reprimand as you make your way to the sofa with a big bowl of soup. You made a special batch for the spice loving blonde as a thank you. Dynamight rolls his eyes and nods approvingly at the taste.
“I don’t want to listen to him bitching about embarrassing himself in front of you again. For some fucking reason he really cares about shit like that when it comes to you.” Bakugou answers nonchalantly, like you’ve known each other for ages and this isn’t your first ever conversation. After seeing your confused face, he elaborates on the topic. “He won’t remember you being with us because I didn’t let him look at you. He’ll wake up tomorrow thinking you were fast asleep and he won’t beat himself up about it.”
“So long story short, you being an asshole is all an act and you are actually more like a protective big brother.” You poke at the sleeping bear, but for your surprise, he doesn’t get offended by you seeing through him.
Okay. This is new. This is not how people portray Bakugou in their fanfictions.
“We are all family. We support each other. Being a hero is a lonely job so if we are not there for each other no one ever will ever be.” The blonde answers with a straight face but his voice gets melancholic by the end of his sentence.
You don’t know what to say to that. You understand the sentiment but at the same you can’t help but wonder how the fuck is the pain not worth it. These people; both Midoriya and Bakugou; are the most protecting, most loving people you’ve ever met in your life. They are loyal to a fault and they go out of their way to make their loved ones feel safe.
“You guys deserve the fucking world and some blood and the lack and of contact during missions won’t change my mind about that. This night was the worst day of my life but I would do it over and over again if it means I can stay close to him, because he’s worth it.”
You definitely overshared a bit, but by the look of it, Bakugou doesn’t care nor comments on it.
“You are different than the rest.” He mumbles, playing with a piece of meat at the bottom of the almost empty bowl.
“Different?”
“Yeah. I didn’t like this whole roomie idea, you know.” He admits. “It’s dangerous, even with a mutual friend. A lot of people tried to use him and he’s so fucking naive. But I can see it in your eyes, you know… That you care about him. And he also can’t shut up about you, so.. welcome to the family, or whatever. Also, gimme’ your phone number so I can update you on all the shit so you don’t freak out.” Bakugou throws his unlocked phone into your lap; his background is a picture of the gang sitting on each other on Deku’s sofa. He’s so cute.
“Thank you… for accepting me. It means a lot.” You mumble sheepishly, your whole face red as a tomato. Bakugou snaps his phone out of your hands and throws it in the air to catch it, just to be cool and edgy.
“Save the cheesy shit for the nerd, Freeloader.” The blonde grins. “Make sure he sleeps enough. He’ll be good as new by the afternoon.” Dynamight stands up to put the dishes into the dishwasher. “Thanks for the food, send me the recipe.”
And with that, the hero is gone and the the silence is back; you lie down on the sofa and listen to the noises coming from Deku’s room, but after a few rustles, everything quiets down and only the soft, content snores can be heard from the room next door.
You fall asleep on the sofa, not having the energy to go into your room; at least you will be there in case Midoriya needs help during the night.
~•🥦•~
You wake up to Midoriya’s footsteps around 9 AM; barely a few hours after he came home last night. He looks disheveled and confused as he tries to put on his hero costume.
“Midoriya… go to sleep.” You pull yourself up; the hero jumps in surprise by the sight of you. “How do you want to fight evil if you can’t even sense me sleeping on the sofa, huh?”
You know that’s a low blow, but you’d do anything to keep the hero from going out today. He needs to stay home and you also need him to rest for your own sanity. He looks pale and all over the place, there is no way you’ll let him go out like that.
“Y/N, I’m fine. I can’t skip work…” Midoriya is just about to start rambling about the importance of his job, but you don’t let him finish. You throw your phone towards him which he catches in one swift move.
“Read it.”
Dynamight: Yo, freeloader. Tell Deku he’s not needed today. I found cover for him. If he leaves the house I’ll kill him.
“How does he know your number?”
Fuck, you didn’t think this through. Midoriya is not supposed to know about yesterday.
“He left a note with his number on the table, so I sent him a message.” You lie, feeling terrible for doing so but it’s all for his sake.
Deku doesn’t say anything just sits down next you; his face looks sad and heartbroken, but he doesn’t say a word about it. You really want to hug him but you are not sure it would be appreciated right now.
“Mido…” You are just about speak up, but he doesn’t let you finish.
“You are lying to me.” He declares with a heartbroken smile. He knows. He doesn’t remember but he’s a clever guy and you are a terrible liar.
“Not all lies are bad. Sometimes, people lie for the sake of their loved ones.”
“I also lied.” Midoriya admits. “About me being okay. I’m really tired. Mentally. Physically. In every single way.”
“I know.“ You can’t help it; your hands move towards Midoriya’s frizzy curls. Midoriya melts into the touch, clearly desperate for affection now that the air is clean between you two. “Put your head into my lap and let’s watch a movie, okay?” That way he can fall asleep and you can keep an eye on him for the rest of the day. Win-Win.
~•🥦•~
As the movie starts, the two of you fall into a comfortable silence. It’s a dumb and fluffy movie, something that takes his mind away from all the violence in the real world. Midoriya’s hair is full of knots under your palm, so you slowly rake your fingers through the mess, detangling it lock by lock as the green haired hero contentedly sighs, urging you to keep going. It’s way too domestic and way too intimate but you can’t stop; Midoriya clearly needs the attention right now, he’s melting into your touch, his cheek buried into the soft throw that sits between your things and his head for more comfort.
When the movie ends, you realize you didn’t even look at the screen once but neither did Midoriya; he’s fast asleep on your lap, drooling like a golden retriever after a full day of fun. You try to clean him up a bit but he’s not having any of it; he murmurs in his sleep and takes your hand in his, subconsciously caressing the skin. A shiver goes down your spine from the soft touch, churning your insides with it, but you don’t have the heart to wake him up.
Midoriya is too much. He’s so kind, so beautiful, so affectionate, and so-so full of love; you can’t believe you are on the receptive side of all of this. You really feel like you don’t deserve Midoriya’s attention and deep inside you know it doesn’t mean the same to him as it means to you but right here, right now, you let it all in, ready for the biggest heartbreak in your life when this is all over.
~•🥦•~
You wake up after a few hours, still in the same position. Midoriya’s now flawlessly fluffy head is still resting in your lap but he’s facing the other way around; he looks up at you with sleepy eyes, a tired but honest smile decorating his handsome face.
“Good morning, sweet pea.” He mumbles half asleep, hiding his face in your tummy for a few more seconds of peace.
The nickname almost makes your heart stop, but you try your best to ignore the fluttery feeling in your chest.
“I’m quite sure it’s afternoon.” You strike back with a sass, which the green haired hero blissfully ignores.
“Whatever. It’s nice.”
“Yeah.” You admit with a red face, and this is the moment Dynamight chooses to barge into the flat with a bunch of other people behind him.
Okay, this is extremely awkward.
Do these people know how to knock?!
“THE MIDORIYA CHEERING UP SQUAD HAS ARRIVED!” Chargebolt yells while the others hide their faces in embarrassment.
“By the look of it, shitty Deku has a good enough time already.” Dynamight snickers and Deku jumps up like a happy puppy to forcefully hug the shit out of the annoyed blonde. While everyone is busy staring at the two hugging each other, you take a moment to take a look at the intruders; every single of these people are heroes you follow on every single available social media.
Don’t freak out.
Don’t. Freak. Out.
Don’t…
“OH MY GOD, THATS RED RIOT THAT’S FUCKING RED RIOT, Midoriya!”
Fuck.
… Next Part!

Life situation & kitty update! Help me stay in Seattle instead of being forced to go to wyoming
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello! I was able to make rent this month, but so far I cannot make rent for next month.
Ko-fi has been holding donations since paypal has been flagging them as "income" so that no longer works.
If you would like to help me out using paypal, the link is HERE. I will look into other venmo and cashapp. you can also reach out for a commission! If you donated via paypal and would like me to draw you a little something in thanks, please let me know!
I also put together an AMAZON WISH LIST , most is things for the kitties or food and some non-essentials / self care things for the hell of it that are things i haven't been able to buy myself for a while. Other than rent, kitty supplies and food are what I spend most $ on.
More on what I'm facing and what my kitties need:
about the kitties:
My sweet kitty Jade, needs a steroidal shot for her dermatitis. She should have gotten another one on the 25th, but I had no money to take her to the vet and she started ripping her fur out and made big, golf-ball sized spots completely bald on her armpit and chest :'( We put her on benadryl, moisturized her, and gave her a little jacket thing to help but I can tell she's really uncomfortable and really needs a vet visit to get that. it's $80 just to visit my vet and i'm sure the shot could be anywhere from 10-40 dollars, I really don't know. She's not in danger of pulling huge chunks of fur out thanks to the little jacket but she's really not happy and it makes me so sad.
About my situation (kind of long, sorry):
My Parents (mostly my mom; it's very hard to get responses from my dad) gave me rent money for September, but then made it clear that she will no longer help me financially under any circumstance if I want to "choose" to live in Seattle, then I'm essentially on my own. She doesn't want to give me money because she doesn't want ours to be a "transactional-based relationship" (after spending my entire childhood having them pressure me to move out on my own)
My dad is convinced that since Seattle is a city, it is very unsafe (and too full of Democrats) and that we would be safer living in their small town of Pavilion, Wyoming--which is literally just like, a few very spaced out neighborhoods. The nearest actual town is a 30 minute drive, and it's not very big either, and I don't drive. I would be snowed in *with them* for 4+ MONTHS every year, and every summer unable to leave the house for weeks because of the heat.
My dad has told my sister and I that if we choose to live right next to them, where they could have complete control over our lives, they would even buy us a house--but because we're not doing that, they refuse to support us in the life we've chosen for ourselves. They do not see the cruelty in this and think we are being nonsensical staying somewhere like Seattle which is "dangerous" and they do not like that it is full of non-republicans. I came out as queer in 2016, something which they have never spoken about since. I would likely be the only (out) queer person for MILES, and I don't feel like being the guinea pig for whether the anti-gay people there are the kind who ignore you or the kind who will hatecrime/kill you (:
Since I'd be at zero in my bank account in wyoming, they would have complete control over what I eat (not fun since I have a messed up digestion), clothes I buy, where I go, and how I behave just like they did when I was a child, or they'll start taking things away hoping that "tough love" will work. (it just made me mentally ill lol)
If I start a job in a week and a half I might be okay, but if I can't start until after that I won't have enough for October rent. I have one interview coming up but the future is still very up in the air.

Chapter 3: The Longest Journey
We departed on December 20. Took the bus at 2 pm and went through 3 of Ukraine’s major cities to pick up other passengers and head for Poland. The trip started out well but soon things began to go south. The bus itself was alright. However, the site boasted outlets for your devices and free wi-fi. Which is true technically. Except the outlets were the type basically nobody uses in Europe and the wi-fi… there was a whole of 250 MB, all for the taking for your 16-hour ride. The seats were fine but the human body is not really made to sit in one place for so long. My knees were soon hurting and I barely had any sleep.
Tumblr media
The trip itself was a bit of a mess too. Flixbus clearly doesn’t want to pay for extra buses for emergency situations so when another one of their buses broke, our driver had to pick up its passengers. Then another company’s bus broke and we took some of its passengers too. Sitting in a bus for hours is bad enough, but at least we weren’t the ones standing in the aisle, wet from the rain. We felt sorry for those people but it was very frustrating for everyone. This incident set us back a few hours. Then there was the border crossing.
Poland was startlingly unwelcoming. I didn’t expect much. I knew we were way past the “Poland is our best buddy” early war honeymoon illusions but this encounter still took me by surprise. We arrived at about 5 am but had to wait for a few hours in a line of other buses before finally proceeding to the border control. At first, they had the few men on the bus go there, making sure they had the right to leave the country. Then it was the rest of us. There were about 5 Poles at the checkpoint and they were not happy to see us. I honestly don’t know what our people did in these 2 years that they hated us so much. First a blond middle-aged woman came up to the bus and began to shout at us in Polish to get out in groups. I understood most of it, but I shouldn’t be expected to. Then we went to show our documents to a few dudes in booths who asked us where we were going and why. After that, a tall handsome young man began to rummage in some people’s bags. He took his time dismantling one woman’s bag, which mostly contained children’s clothes. Her little son, about 3, wanted to help and I don’t like children much, but he was adorable and made all of us passengers smile. Not the Poles though, they didn’t budge. None of them spoke Ukrainian or Russian, or maybe didn’t want to. I wonder who pissed them off so much. We were tired and stressed out as it was and this felt like we were some sort of criminals, not women and children fleeing from a war.
I managed to book a trip directly to the Warsaw airport so, despite the delay, we still had 2 hours to get on the plane. I was just glad we took a plane because 16 hours on a bus wrecked me and I can’t imagine 40, which is what most other people had to endure. We got the world’s most expensive coffees and muffins and took off. The flight was delayed but only by about 10 minutes so it was fine. The Finair plane was kinda small but the flight was very smooth. The weather was rainy but up there, above the clouds, the sun shone brightly and I felt my heart healed a little.
Tumblr media
Finland greeted us with blinding whiteness and I felt a strange comfort when we finally arrived. But there was still a good chunk of road ahead.
Normally, most people in our situation would just go to Helsinki and apply for asylum at the closest police department. But this way you get assigned to any place in the country they see fit. Our plan was different. Since we had a friend there and we wanted to be close to her, we were to go to the large city nearest to her and apply there. She even asked at the reception centre and was told they would be expecting us and we would probably get an apartment that was prepared for moving in.
So first, we had to take a city train to get to Tikkurila. Then we had to take the intercity train to a city where we would later be living. But instead of going there, we were to stay at our friend’s so we then had to take another train that got us closer to her where she could pick us up.
I had no internet connection of my own and got to rely on whatever hubs were available. There were none at the station and I was getting a bit panicky that I would miss the train. I had to bother a few Finns for directions, the first of many. They were very friendly and tried to help the best they could. As I got into the train, I had trouble opening my ticket on the ancient tablet I had but the conductor was nice and patient with me and let me take my time as he went on to check the tickets of other passengers.
The intercity train was great. Fast and smooth, it was the best part of the trip. The cars were clean and comfortable. Everything was designed to make the trip enjoyable for everyone. The Finns looked relaxed and many took off their shoes for the ride and stretched their legs languishly.
We also found ourselves in the children car. The idea of such a car would probably sound a little annoying to me, but I was happy to be there. There were many parents with small children and a part of the space was free of seats with some stuff for them to play in. Small kids were running around back and forth in the aisle. Some fell a few times but nobody seemed to worry, kids or parents. They just got up and continued on their way. I sat next to a Finnish mother with a tiny baby. I don’t care about babies that much but I couldn’t stop looking at her. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone so gentle and tender and loving as she was with her child. The whole car had such a soothing atmosphere of peace and joy. It later turned out that we took the wrong car and when the rightful owners of these seats came, we had to move to another. But I’m glad we made that mistake so I could experience this.
This train was also slightly late. Not by much, but enough that we were risking to miss the transfer. I’m glad I decided to seek help from the lovely young woman staff, so we just barely made it to our final train, which was a small local train, far less glamorous. After bothering some more Finns, we finally got help from a nice older man and made sure we were going the right way. After another 40 minutes, we finally stepped off the train and into the dark, immediately greeted by our friend and her husband.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t the longest trip of my life but it sure felt like it and was certainly the most intense and nerve-wrecking. Honestly, I don’t even know how I survived the journey, let alone got it all right, though a lot of it was thanks to the lovely Finnish people.
We did not immediately go to their place. First, we went to the nearby building to have our photos taken for the police. Your document photos never look good but having them taken after a 28-hour journey makes them extra ugly. Though I suppose fitting for a refugee application. Finally, after a short drive, we arrived at the house we would spend the next week at.

❝  i brought some seeds for your garden.  i thought about bringing a bouquet but— this way you can grow them and enjoy them longer.  ❞ (for suburban dilf Hugh) @draconisa — sent from this meme (x) still accepting!
Tumblr media
buying a house in the suburbs has quite possibly been one of the best decisions that he's ever made. did he miss living in the city? every day. he'd lived there for over 40 years prior, and leaving a place that he'd called home for that long had been hard. but it isn't just himself that he has to think about anymore. his daughter gets older with every second that passes, and aims to spend more time out of the house than in it. it hadn't been fair to coop her up in an apartment, where the nearest green area was a fifteen minute walk away through busy streets. sofía deserved a garden, and what kind of father would he be if he didn't provide for her?
he finds himself in the garden more than he'd thought he would. he has somewhat of a green thumb, he's discovered, and enjoys spending a warm afternoon tending to his plants and flowers. so this gift from dany is more than welcomed. he'd been looking for something extra to do on his weekends. ‘ you didn't have to do that. ’ his arm wraps around her shoulders, giving her a slight squeeze as thanks.

Cyare Verd *Beloved Warrior * Bad Batch Edition
Previous Chapter
Chapter Two - Spoils of War
Sleep has never come easy for me. Every time I close my eyes - event or a few minutes - I can see the surface of my home world reduced to ash. After the bombing, I really had no idea it had happened and what I was met with upon my return was nothing but ash. Everything I knew and loved was reduced to miles of ash. The beautiful green fields, the lush forests, and even our beloved Captal city of Sundari….there was nothing left. I think the hardest part was the beskar’gam (armor)….once filled with a living being warrior….empty and cold. No longer able to fulfill its duty, protecting the wearer and serving our ancestors…..I could almost hear their screams…what these people - MY people…..Mando’ade…..the sons and daughters of Mandalore - went through, is unimaginable. No one is left to tell their story…no one but me.
I woke with a startle, causing the others to take notice. Omega picked her head up from my lap, “Are you okay?” She asks rubbing her eyes. “Yeah fine” I say brushing it off. Hunter and Echo give me a look. I stand up and head to the fresher, not wanting to discuss it. I close the door behind me and lean against the sink. Looking in the mirror I realize how tired I look. Splashing some water on my face and trying to shake off the images from my dream, I collect myself. There is a slight rattle in the ship indicating we have landed. I open the door to the fresher and Omega is standing there with my buy’ce (helmet). She hands it to me with a smile. “Vor’e (thanks)” I say taking it from her. “Ba’gedet’ye! (You’re welcome)” She says in perfect Mando’a. She must notice the expression on my face “I’m a clone too…I was on Kamino for a longtime and picked up some Mando’a from my brothers”. “You impress me Omega” I smile back at her. Hunter comes up behind her and places a hand on her shoulder, “We’re here” is all he says. I nod and follow them off the Marauder.
————
Serenno is beautiful. Too bad it had such a reputation. I over heard the boys arguing about how they should be doing ‘more’ to fight against the Empire. I can’t say I blame them any way to tell the Empire nar’sheb (shove it) has to count for something.
We make our way up a large mountain to get a good vantage point. “That’s he city?” I scoff seeing all the imperial ships. “What happened to it?” Asks Omega noting the same thing. “Imperial orbital bombardment. Same as Kamino.” exaplains Echo. “That’s not surprising” I say under my breath. Tech looks through his binoculars “It appears that they are beginning to transport the war chest off-world.” I flip my range finder down to see what he’s looking at. “Our window of opportunity then. “It’s quickly closing.” Tech continues. Hunter shifts “Theres over 40 troopers down there.” I scan around before flipping my range finder back up. “That’s nothing!” Wrecker says, enthusiastically slamming his fists together. “Stealth, Wrecker. Remember?” Omega says to him, causing me to chuckle. “Imperial escort ships.” Tech continues. “That’s standard protocol for when high-level cargo is being transported.” I say matter of factly. The group looks at me in surprise. “I’m not from the Empire I promise. I just now a thing or two.”, “Get to the nearest container and grab what you can” Hunter barks at us. “I’ll be eyes on the ground. If things go sideways, I’ll divert their forces and buy you some time.” I tilt my visor his direction, “Sure you don’t want backup?” I ask. He shakes his buy’ce (helmet) covered head, “No, I’ll be fine, now go”.
We all head down the hill and take cover behind some trees. “In position. And the second transport’s launching” Echo informs the group. “We’ve for roving patrols. Stay alert.” Hunter says before darting onto the landing pad. I watch as he places detonators on a few of their escort ships. “Let’s go” Echo instructs us. When we approach the cargo container, Wrecker takes out one of the troopers, “What? I did it quietly.” The group gives him a look. “Yeah, but they will definite notice when he doesn’t report in” Tech scold him. “Well, lets be gone by then. I’m going to head to the next container over, I’ll catch up with you guys.” I say getting them back on task. Echo nods in agreement. I hop down out of the cargo container, “Wait, I’ll go with you. You shouldn’t go alone” Omega says to me. “I’ll be fine kid” I try to dismiss her. If I can go alone Cid won’t know what I have and don’t show her. Omega hops down out of the cargo container. “Fine, let’s get moving, but stay close” I say to her and she nods following me to the next container.
I quietly open the door and Omega slides in first. “Woah so this is what a war chest looks like” she says in awe. I slide in behind her and glance around the room. It is floor to ceiling boxes that are full of what I can only imagine. Personally, I’ve never been much of a thief. I enjoy honest work - another reason why Cid was never my favorite - but again, here we are. “Our priority is anything of high value” I tell Omega as we begin to look around. “Like what?” She asks. I laugh “Well I suppose anything shinty or heavy is probably a good start”. She nods and we begin to fill our backpacks. There’s enough in here I’d never have to take another Osik (crap) job again. I could even disappear. “Woah” I hear Omega say. I look over and she’s looking into a container full of precious metals and gems. She looks up at me “How could all of this belong to one person?”. I sigh, “A lot of this probably came from the worlds Dooku and the Separatists controlled.” “Is that what happened to your world?” She asks carefully. I don’t even know what to say so all I do is nod. “Grab as much as you can” I tell her after a minute.
Suddenly my com goes off “Hunter, I think we’re about to have some company”. It’s Echo and it sounds like they are in trouble. “What is it?” Omega asks, noticing my change in body language. “It’s Echo, sounds like they are going to have trouble. We should get going” I explain to her and she nods. Suddenly there is an explosion, “thats our diversion” I say to no one in particular. Omega and I start to make out way to the opening of the cargo container. The alarm is sounding at this point, “Omega, stay close to me. This is going to get hairy”. She immediately does as she is told. “I’m on my way to you” Hunter says over the comms.
We make out way to the container where Echo and Tech are waiting. “Let’s speed this up. Wrecker, that one goes first” Echo commands. Wreckers picks up the container and heads out to meet Hunter, the rest of us stay inside. Suddenly I hear the door beginning to shut behind us, “Uhhh that’s concerning” I point to the door. Echo rushes over to the port and connects his arm to it. Our comms buzz, “The ship’s taking off. Get out of there.” Hunter sounds worried. “Hurry Echo” Omega says stepping closer to me likes scared. After a few moments Echo speaks up, “It’s externally sealed. I can’t open it.” I comm Hunter, “Hunter we’re trapped in the container. We can’t get out.” Omega hugs my leg causing me to look down at her. “It’s alright Omega, we will get out of here” I reassure her. “On our way” Hunter replies. I stop and look around to see if there’s another way out. “Hunter, where are you?” Omega says over the comms. “Sorry, kid. We Got a little sidetracked. You need to get off that ship before it jumps to hyperspace” he continues. Tech thinks for a moment, “If we Gain access to the ship’s main hold, we could commandeer an escape pod.” I nod at him. “Do it. We’ll get to the Marauder and recover you” Hunter replies.
“There! We should be able to get into the rest of the ship from there” I point out a hatch. Tech goes over to come to the same conclusion as me. “Are you sure this hatch will lead into the ship?” Omega asks, worried. Tech looks at his datapad, “If I am incorrect, will instantly be sucked out and perish. I am seldom wrong.” I sigh and shake my head, “Ba’gedet’ye (you’re welcome)” I say under my breath. Echo must have heard me because he lets out a light laugh. The door slides open, “Congratulate yourself after we escape”. Echo’s sass makes me laugh and Tech - I assume - gives me a look. He looks back down at his datapad, “The closest escape pod is five corridors away.” I look down the hall, “lets get going then” I say before starting out in front with Omega immediately behind me, then Tech and Echo carrying another container. Once we get closer to the escape pods a door slides open and storm troopers step out “Freeze” one of them yells. Omega, Echo, and Tech duck behind the container. I step out into the walk away, out from cover. “What are you doing?!” Omega yells. “Stay there” I instruct.
Blaster fire begins to rain on me. I use my vambrace to block the shots as I move closer to the troopers. Tech and Echo are able to take some of them out from their position. I fight as many of them off as I can but they just keep coming. “Find an alternate routine to the escape pods!” I yell over the comms. “They just ejected all the escape pods!” Echo yells back. Suddenly pinkish bolts are flying past me. I look to my left and see Omega taking her stand. “Omega don’t! Get back to cover!” I yell at her. “No, I’m not letting you take them on alone!”. She’s stubborn I’ll give her that. But she’s brave too. Mandokarla. I’ll make sure to tell her that, she’d like to hear it. I see out of the corner of my eye another door being to open that Omega doesn’t see. I dive her direction, knocking her out of the way and taking a load of blaster fire to the back. “Go! Get out of here!” I yell in pain. Suddenly the blaster fire stops and the storm troopers are being shocked. Echo shielding Omega, reaches out his hand and helped me up. “Vor’e (thanks)” I grunt out before I nod my appreciation. “Ba’gedet’ye (you’re welcome)” he nods back. Then it clicks, ah me must have been the one in Cid’s Parlor who laughed at what I said to her.
“There has to be another way off this ship” Tech says which irritated Echo, “Other than over taking this vessel, what so you suggest” He sasses. Omega chimes in “This is a class four freighter, isn’t it?”. “Yes why?” Tech asks not looking up from what he’s doing. Omega continues, “Containers on class four freighter are equipped with recently thrusters. We can escape in a cargo container.” She says it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Tech finally stops what he is doing and double checks his datapad, “You are correct. I am impressed” he says. “Smart kid” I say also impressed. “However, the containers must be ejected before leaving the atmosphere, which means our window is rapidly closing” Tech continues. “Great, this just keeps getting worse” I sigh. “Come on, we need to hurry” Echo says taking the lead.
We race back to the container we came from taking out storm troopers here and there. “How much time do we have?” Omega asks concerned. “Very little” Tech says very matter of factly. Making into the container, Tech immediately does to work on the panel on the wall “initialing cargo release”. “Hold on, it’s going to get bumpy” I say stealing myself as I feel the cargo start to free fall. “When are the reentry thruster supposed to fire?” Echo asks. “I think they should have by now” Omega replies, hurrying under a cargo net, Echo and I follow. We turn to help Tech but the container free fall, causes him to hang in the air, “that is going to be a problem” he yells. Omega grips on to my leg, making whimpering noises. I use one hand to grab a handful on her shirt and push her tight to me.

itty bitty outer wilds update because i only played for like 40 minutes but found some stuff i want to mention
so! went to the cave at the bottom of the sunless city. apparently i was TOO early because of that one room where the sands got to rise to be able to jump over the cacti but over well
the place there is cool! now i know all the stuff about the towers on the ash twin! maybe i just dont quite know how they work, but i didn't seem to be able to use the teleportation pads my first time around, or maybe i just need to do something else first! i saw the collection of the warp cores(? the things in the middle of the warp pads, but noticeably smaller) and tried to figure out something to do with one i picked up, but nothing.
I did notice the different centers they had though! seems to be representative of the black hole, white hole, and i unno nothing, or at least thats what i think!
next cycle(s) i wanted to follow the thing launched at the beginning of the cycle, and so i did. restarted one cycle bc i got lost at first oops. but! after some trial and error on the next cycle, i managed to reach it! not sure what i expected, but it sure was a thing. it had the eye symbol, which i guess i could've already assumed based on what i knew about the cannon, but still cool.
couldn't really figure out anything else to do with it at the time so after some tampering i just restarted the cycle once more
then i kind of just messed around for a few minutes, took a second look at the gravity canon on the ash twin, launched my own ship for the achievement on said twin, and also sort of learnt the other ships controls! i knew the recall and launch function but i only just now realized the third one gravitates to the nearest planet!
thats kind of it! i do notice a white spec that flies by timber hearth at the start, and i was going to try and follow it but lost it. now im not entirely sure if thats the same canon ship with weird lighting or not, but it sure wasn't purple

The way my eyes first laid on you??/ Jamie Campbell Bower
Tumblr media
Chapter 16- “Escaped"
Days passed slowly. Jamie is the only one who comes to mind. Jamie hasn't seen you in 14 days. How you've longed to see him again, to see him even if it was for a second.  You pretend to sleep, and then you hear a rope being cut. Freedom? You were being led upstairs and into a room. You were placed on what appeared to be a bed, and you heard things clicking and ching. You wait until you hear them go away and the door close. You cautiously open your eyes, as if you had just awoken, just in case they were still there. There was no one there. An unclean bedroom with an open window, Handcuffs with one cuff on the bed and the other on your hand. You could simply slip away, but you had the impression that someone was watching you from within, not outside. You lay in bed, pretending to sleep. You were provided food, but only when you pretended to sleep. You waited another 14 days before carrying out your escape plan. When the person who was feeding you went. You leaped out the window after slipping your hands out of the cuffs. That's what the camera saw, but you scaled the brick walls of the apartment and checked to see whether you had your phone on you. no phone on you. If you knew where you were, you'd climb down to the parking lot and stroll around to the city. You looked around but still had no idea where you were. You asked around for the location of the nearest police station. Until you discovered you could walk to Jamies' place in 40 minutes. You walk up to him barefoot and knock on his door. 15 times in a row. "Your boyfriend broke up with you, so you need someone to play with?" he screams fiercely "What are you talking about? I've been abducted for a month. I don't even have my phone." You responded by yelling back at him.

omg i have a story :3 i might be getting my first second partner (as in i’ve never had more than one before!!!). i’m poly and my current partner knows it, so as long as we all talk, i can do whatever i want. i’m at this conference thing rn with thousands of people, and my friends and i were goofing off and joking around all day. we decided we would all give out 5 slips of paper with our numbers on them to various people around the centre, and see which of us got more replies.
i did not get the most texts— i only got two— but with one of them, we actually stared talking. and we kept talking. for hours. from 7pm to 12am as we watched the presentations and sat in traffic and got ready for bed.
and they’re…. actually cute? they’re funny and sweet and so so relatable. we’ve had good conversations. i asked them to sit with me today and they asked me to the dance. i couldn’t be more excited :))
That sounds WILD and super fun? I always want to slip my number to people but I worry SO much about it, yk? There’s actually a girl I kind of want to give my number BUT I know her by proxy of someone so if it goes weird I then have to be like ah-ha yeah and awkward around that person that we have in common 😭 I’m just waiting for my meet cute moment like I said where someone sees me working at Michael’s and thinks I’m cute and comes up and fakes needing more help than they actually need 😭 *sigh* I think I also said I might be in Raleigh on the day of emo nite, but I don’t think I will, but I might go just to try and be more social? Idk my mom is REALLY picky about putting miles on the car now but like she also thinks that we need to socialize more and go out and do things more and she’s the one who moved us 40 minutes from the nearest city so. Like sorry in order to be social I have to drive at least half an hour in any direction. *sigh* I want a gf so bad but I look so weird and depressing 😭

one more thing is that. that is the one thing i will miss about the city. the club nearest to us have hosted many lgbt nights (mostly dyke nights but open to all gay and whatever identities) and dc was just a 30-40 minute train ride away for whatever get together we wanted. when we move to the mountains it will be harder. and it’s bittersweet. i have always felt i’ve belonged to the mountains as long as i’ve lived. they say they call to you and your children and your grandchildren. and not only my mother and grandmother but also my grandfather have been born and lived most of their lives in those mountains. and i’ve felt most at home in them. but i will be missing out on a lot of experiences with my brothers and sisters. at least it feels that way. it’s a very red portion of the state. not that i didn’t grow up in a red part of the state. even though it was much more eastern. it feels like no matter where i go it will be conservative. i don’t hold that against the land though. i love the mountains more than anything. i love the history and the family i have in those hills more than anything. i feel like i can’t leave it behind. that’s where i want to live and die. even when it was just me and nixy we planned to live in west virginia together. in the appalachian mountains. that’s all i ever wanted. but it will hurt.

What are some of your favorite cities you’ve been to? Edinburgh, Florence, Melbourne, Singapore, Paris.
Would you allow your children to date prior to 16? I have no desire to have children, but I dated prior to 16 and I don’t see an issue with it in general as long as it’s age-appropriate. Did you ever go through a phase where you thought guys in bands were ‘hot?’ Of course. What’s something about adult life you were never warned of or prepared for? How expensive everything is lol. I know we’re going through a period of inflation right now which doesn’t help, but oh my GOD. I just spend £25 on cat litter and nearly £40 on a 5kg of bloody biscuits. And yes, I know pet ownership is my choice but it never used to be this expensive. It’s a good job I love them, lol. Did your parents teach you proper table manners when you were growing up? Yeah, my parents were pretty hot on table manners - we went out for meals and stuff a lot when I was younger and they wouldn’t have tolerated bad behaviour.
What was the last thing you baked? Does re-heating a chocolate fudge cake count as baking? lol. Do you live more than 5 hours away from the nearest international border? No, the border to Scotland is about...two hours from here, I think.
Does your town have a farmer’s market? No, the nearest one is probably Ulverston which is about half an hour away, but the drive is a real PITA so we practically never go. What’s the westernmost point you’ve been to? I mean, I live right on the west coast of my country - I’m about two minutes drive from the coast and I’m there everyday, lol. What was the last restaurant you made a reservation at? I honestly don’t remember - most places round here don’t require a booking. When did you last feel lonely? I don’t remember. Can you easily tell when others are masking their true emotions? With some people, sure. How often do you wash your car? Never, lol. I live rurally and drive along back roads and farm tracks on a near daily basis. It got a wash last time it went in for a service and less than 24h later you couldn’t tell. When did you last lend money to a friend? I don’t lend people money. Which app on your phone do you tend to get the most notifications from? Facebook or Reddit. Do you own a Dutch oven? If so, what was the last thing you cooked in it? We do, but I don’t remember what I last used it for. Probably stove-top pocorn. What is currently on your kitchen table? Nothing.  What is your favorite time period in history to learn about? I used to love the Tudors and Stuarts, but also modern history was interesting - like the World Wars and stuff. How old were you when you met your current best friend? I honestly find it a bit weird when adults talk about having best friends. Have you ever kissed a smoker? Yeah.
What is the minimum age to obtain a driver’s license in your state/country? Do you think this is an appropriate age? Seventeen, and yeah, I think that’s pretty appropriate really. I didn’t get mine until my late twenties though. If you won the lottery, do you think any of your family members would ask you to give them some of your money? They wouldn’t have to ask. What is the craziest thing you’ve seen happen at your workplace? When I worked in a supermarket, someone once used the dressing rooms as a toilet and shat everywhere in there - even though the actual toilets were right next door -_- Do you own any home automation gadgets like wifi thermostats or wifi bulbs? We can control the heating and the washing machine via WiFi/phone, but that’s about the extent of it. What is something you gave up on after many failed attempts? I’m sure there’s plenty. How old were you when you started to seriously think about what career path you wanted to pursue? Uh, I honestly never thought about it. I fell into all my jobs by accident and even setting up my own business was done on impulse. Have you ever disliked a book so much that you didn’t finish it? Yeah, there’s no point forcing yourself to finish a book that you don’t like.
Would you rather read a book, or listen to the audiobook? Read. I’ve never got the appeal of audiobooks, they’re so slow. Do you think tomorrow will be a better day than today? Nah, I have to work tomorrow lol.

A Tale Of Goats and The Most Metal Album Cover Tree Of All Time.
This is a true story that happened to a close friend. I right now am sitting up with insomnia again in his house and felt like honoring him, despite it being three years since his death. I've told this tale dozens of times irl but now felt like telling this story online because I wanna immortalize it as it is that good.
So. My late biker friend, Machito, my inarguably coolest friend, one of my oldest and only flesh and blood friends. The man the myth the rocking legend. There are a million other equally wild if not wilder tales of him and his pals/rivals, but this one is my favorite. So...
Once upon a time, there was this friend of mine who was your ur example of a badass rugged mountain man. A solitary, dark long dreadlocked / epic mustached, scary tattooed, leather wearing, tall, even darker skinned and somehow actually more badass irl than Danny Trejo who was practically his lookalike, sorta guy. A guy who has masters degrees in both law and biology who lives in the Catskills in a trailer with his mom next door along with his Harley bikes and his beloved chihuahuas. And during his life in the rural wilderness of upstate New York he was on and off a small farmer. This makes sense as the nearest major grocery store is an almost 30-40 minute drive down steep winding dirt roads, occasionally down heavily snow piled hills. He had no crops but raised livestock like chickens and cows for extra food, as so many here do. At some point he owned a small herd of goats. And one day, they all escaped out of their pen because the gate somehow broke. He did not realize this until after the sheriff called to inform him, telling him over the phone that neighbors far down the way had a bunch of goats now racing all up and down their big front and back yards, shitting everywhere and kicking down trash cans and tearing up grass and he had to now show up and fix this problem as they knew they def were his. My friend drove over and brought out his shotgun.
"No no! Don't *shoot* the goats! *Catch* them!" the officer snapped.
"Are you nuts," Machito said.
"Why not?" asked the sheriff.
"Because they're GOATS, you idiot city slicker."
"You can't shoot animals out here."
"We got us a whole batch of scared goats on the loose, I've no patience in this heat, or hope of ever catching them any other way. These goats are not pets. They'll not come if called. I didn't raise them that way. They're for strictly meat and hides. So they're to be slaughtered regardless anyway."
"Don't care."
"-Look. It's a waste, I know, but asides just leaving them to run amok wild, its best I can do. If I don't kill them, eventually some other guy will: shoot at MY property, I might add, as you said, the goats that *I* paid for. And if a redneck doesn't shoot them, then out in the bush the coyotes will tear em apart. More likely they just hit a car. Or die of disease. These aren't forest animals, they have no idea where they are going. It's probably more merciful this route."
"No way you going to do that!" yells the sheriff. "You're gonna catch them alive."
"I cannot do that."
"Oh you better!"
"-You go and catch one of them then, to show me how easy it is."
The sheriff was astounded but acquiesced. Surely he ran thru field, the tall grass full of mud, goat shit and thorn bushes, trying in vain to bare handedly by the haunches catch all these panicking, not at all stupid, very large hoofed and horned, kicking, dirty, stubborn, noisy, stinky creatures.
Tumblr media
-the fat old white town sheriff returns, bedraggled and battered, red and sweaty, tired and filthy.
"Okay you win. Shoot the bastards."
"Toldyaso," says Machito.
"Just shootem, shoot them all!" says the sheriff. And he does. But that is not the end of the story.
Machito drags all the dead goats now into his pickup. He drives home, back up the mountain, in the blazing summer sun, with an enormous pile of meat already attracting flies. ...Bear in mind now. This is a guy who is a lone hunter, a mountain guy, just a biker who reluctantly killed a mass of goats all by himself. Not a farmer. He does not have a real actually fully staffed farm. Or a giant freezer capable of handling a ton of goats all at once. The way one properly butchers a goat is to string them on a hook and remove entrails, same as any dead deer, pig or cow. Most meat raising people, if they don't take livestock to a slaughterhouse directly while alive, will maybe use some type of big tablesaw to hack the limbs and heads off. But again, this is not a guy living with that sort of an efficient mass butchering setup. He is just guy chilling in the boonies, a guy with a trailer, and a single pole and a chain with hook on it to his name. When it comes to meat, he just takes a single eventual goat or pig, after having raised it for a long time to get fat, and after a clean shot in the head he then simply butchers the whole thing with a machete to be either stuffed in a fridge or straight for dinner. He is not a guy who kills lots of animals weekly to regularly sell in grocery aisles this is just a *hobby* for the pleasure of eating fresh venison and goat meat stew as that's how they often did things in rural Jamaica, where his mother comes from.
SO. Do the math: he has a whole pile of corpses on his hands, no huge professional farmhouse or freezer to put all these dead goats in. They gotta now be carved all up outside and stored/preserved right the f *NOW* or else things will be gross real quick. ....My friend had to in the July heat string up around a dozen dead adult goat corpses upside down from a big dead tree's branches in his backyard and remove all the entrails and place them in a big ol pile on a table next to it.
A beautiful sight, a great big ol Tree of Meat and Death. That is not the end of this story.
My friend (who again, is a long wild haired scary looking hermit biker) is hot and sweaty and covered in blood. Flies and mosquitoes are cos of that constantly nipping him all his flesh. His hair is a bloody sticky mess. He smacks his face and all over his butcher's apron. Leaving behind bloody hand prints. Holding a giant machete. I think you know where this is heading.
Some hours into carving yet more dead goat carcass, a doorbell is heard. Now, very few people ever regularly visit my friend's place. It's too remote. And the few who do so are rarely on anything except very familiar terms. And my friend has had a rough time of it of late with another biker friend of his. They aren't enemies, they are still close, but he has reached a point of just being fed up by their repeat bunglings and toxic codependency of late. There was also some car or motorcycle repair stuff I think? I can't recall the details, they were not important...Anyway.
Machito has a car out in the driveway with for sale written on it...but has completely forgotten about that as it has sat there for ages. What he didn't know was ***a woman*** from out of town has stopped by to inquire about the vehicle. But instead he thinks it is this aggravating friend of theirs who's been for one reason or another getting on their last nerves and always lately dropping by. So he lunges around the side of the trailer house, pissed off and sweaty, clasping a big knife, soaked in blood and stained with handprints all over. And blindly as he comes in charging, he roars:
"ARGHHHH, WHAT THE FUCK IS IT THIS TIME?! HUH?"
The poor woman screams. She runs away in terror.
"NO WAIT! WAIT STOP ITS NOT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE-"
Lady comes round the back, she sees The Metal Album Goat Tree of Doom and screams and nearly faints then runs away as fast as she can, gets in her car, and hits the turbo. Still not the end of my story.
A doorbell happens. It's the sheriff. The guy from before. He says there was a reported disturbance of a serial killer up here so tell him what happened. Machito takes him out back to show off the goat tree and explains the misunderstanding. The sheriff cackles and wheezes: "Do you know who that woman that reported you was...? That WOMAN was MY WIFE."
They both share a laugh and open a couple beers. And soon. The sheriff is bringing Machito over to HIS HOUSE. Where he hides him. And the wife isn't home yet. She still is at the station.
She gets eventually home after her hubby says it's fine he arrested the psycho. She sits down to dinner and starts to talk about how relieved she is when yes OF COURSE YES mY BEAUTIFULLY STILL GORE SMEARED FRIEND BARGES OUT OF THE HALL SHOUTING AND WAVING HIS MACHETE AND YES IT IS TERRIBLE AND HORRIBLE AND CRUEL AND YES THIS JS THE BEST FUCKING EPIC PRANK OF ALL GODDAMNED TIME.
And THAT is the end of my story.

FAQ: What’s the difference between travel medical insurance and emergency medical evacuation coverage?
Answer:
Travel medical insurance
This is important coverage for Step 3, 4, and 5 travelers going abroad, where your U.S. health plan may have limited glocal coverage or no coverage. Travel medical insurance usually pays for ambulance service, doctor and hospital bills and other medical expenses during your trip. You can find generous coverage limits of up to $500,000 per person, but depending on your trip you may not need that level of coverage. This can add up. I recently broke my wrist in a city where I don’t have coverage, and my insurance is paying. The costs have been HUGE. I would have been out about $10 thousand if I wasn’t insured, and I’ve seen the bills. All I had to pay was the deductible.
Medicare does not pay for health care outside the U.S., which is Step 4 and 5, and in some instances Step 3 in 5 Steps to Solo Travel. There may be a few exceptions in very limited circumstances. Some say travel medical insurance is essential for senior travelers.
If Covid is a concern, you can find travel insurance policies that cover Covid-related medical expenses if you contract the virus during your trip. Some who do cover this include: John Hancock, HTH Worldwide, GoReady, AXA, Nationwide, TravelSafe, USI and AIG.
Emergency medical evacuation coverage
This is also important coverage again for Step 3, 4 and 5 travelers, especially if you’re going to a remote area where quality medical care might be hard to find. Emergency medical evacuation insurance pays to get you to the nearest adequate medical facility. You can find coverage of $1 million per person from plenty of firms. If you have one you recommend, please let me know.
Topic: Special issue on Train Travel
Train travel is reliable ground transportation that is appealing to those who prefer not to fly or drive. As a passenger, you can do what you want. You may choose to enjoy the scenery, sleep, work, play, or make a friend.
My most recent train trip was from San Diego to San Luis Obispo the weekend of July 4. I took an Amtrak surf liner train from Solana Beach, California to Guadalupe, California on a busy Friday afternoon. We departed at 12:40 PM and I was able to get a seat on the top deck of a two deck train and stored my luggage above my seat. Many people were standing in the aisles for up to 20-30 minutes as it was a holiday weekend in a touristy area. The train stopped several times before going on a break in Los Angeles. The crew changed here.
The direction of my train car changed in Union Station, Lost Angeles. That was so strange for someone like me who is directionally challenged. I stayed in the same seat, but I felt like I was going in a different direction.
And from Los Angeles heading north we went to another several stops and the conductor also reminded us that we would be slowing down to 15 miles an hour in certain spots. This is due to recent accidents on the train involving pedestrians. So the train was a little slow in some areas. That did not matter to me.  The view from the train car was outstanding along this journey. I had ocean views the entire way from Santa Barbara north to near San Luis Obispo.
We arrived in Guadalupe at 8:35 pm, 40 minutes after our scheduled arrival. It was late, and due to the lack of cell service in a remote area, it was hard to send messages that we’d be late. The train station was small, without even an office; it's  a parking lot.
The return trip was so different from the way there. Instead of searching many cars for a seat, I was the only one in my “Business Class' ' car when I got aboard in Guadalupe. The operator greeted me with a smile and a welcome snack kit, including some goodies to drink and eat. A few people boarded during the journey, but mostly I had the cab to myself. When it gets dark on July 4 it’s spectacular for watching fireworks. I would suggest you book yourself on a train next July 4. Find a place where you can see a lot of fireworks and enjoy the moving show.
You may have traveled by train in several other countries, so tell me about your train travels. Train trips that I have taken include across the US plus in Japan the shincasen, China’s high-speed trains, Kenya, Chile, plus eurail travel throughout France and Germany.
Today’s Mistake - Not sleeping on the plane to Europe and jet lag
My first trip across the Atlantic Ocean was a jetlag disaster. It was a Step 4 trip. I arrived in London at 9am and was so tired I could not think straight. I got myself a hotel room and all I did was want to sleep. I put my head down and then was awoken by someone who wanted to paint the room. Of course, I said no, but he kept banging. He said he couldn’t get paid until he painted. So, eventually, I let him in to paint and he did and then he left.  My mistake was not sleeping on the plane, and not adjusting my sleep cycle to be in a new time zone. Don’t do what I did. Get your time shifted before you get to the airport and sleep on the plane if at all possible.
Today’s Travel Advice: Tips on train travel:
Use trains as an alternative to other transportation, such as driving or flying commercial airlines. It's easier to board and unboard than on a plane with the challenges of airports. Most trains run on a regular schedule and are reliable and safe. I would recommend you take a trip on a train due to the convenience and embrace the relaxation. When you arrive at your destination, you will be more refreshed.
