Book recs: possession, bodysnatching and bodysharing
Demons, ghosts, aliens, sentient bacteria, artificial intelligences - isn't there something fascinating about the idea of sharing a body with another being like a giant get-along t-shirt? No? Too bad, because I'm going to tell you about books featuring this trope anyway.
A note: multiple of these books are sequels where the bodysnatching/possession aspect plays little to no part in the first book. In all these cases, I still recommend starting with book one. I also in one case chose not to include a certain sequel that I loved as even mentioning it in this context would be a huge spoiler, so, uh, sorry about that.
Tumblr media
For more details on the books, continue under the readmore. Titles marked with * are my personal favorites. And as always, feel free to share your own recs in the notes!
If you want more book recs, check out my masterpost of rec lists!

Brain Plague by Joan Slonczewsji*
Chrys, a struggling artist, agrees to become a carrier for a sentient strain of microbes. With their help, Chrys breathes new life into her career and becomes a success. But every microbe society is different - some function as friends and brain enhancers to their carrier, while others become a literal brain plague, a living addiction taking over the life of their carrier. And like every society, the microbe community is in constant flux - including the one inside Chrys's head.
Children of Ruin (Children of Time series) by Adrian Tchaikovsky*
Sequel to Children of Time. Millenia and generation spanning scifi. After the collapse of the Earthen empire, a project to terraform various planets and use them to uplift other species to sentience in left unfinished. However, both species and planets continue evolving on their own, and when what remains of humanity flees the dying Earth millenia later, these planets might be their only hope of survival. But the uplifted species aren't the only intelligent life out there, and are far from the most dangerous as the survivors encounter something capable of terraforming the human body itself.
Leech by Hiron Ennes*
Unbeknownst to humanity, a sentient hive mind has taken over the entire medical profession to ensure the health of their host species. One of their doctors is sent off to an isolated location where they’re cut off from the rest of the hive mind, only to realize they’re faced with a rivaling parasitic entity. Leech hands you only just enough information to get by, and whether its historical fantasy, an alternate timeline, or futuristic post apocalypse is hard to determine. It’s spooky and a bit weird and wildly creative.

A Memory Called Empire (Texicalaan duology) by Arkady Martine
Mahit Dzmare is an ambassador sent to the center of the multi-system Teixcalaanli Empire, where she discovers that her predecessor has died. Trying to protect her home, a small independent mining station, from being taken over by the empire, Mahit struggles to find out the truth of her predecessor's death while carrying the voice of his ghost in her head, guiding her as best he can. Features a sapphic relationship but focuses more on world-building than romance.
Ninefox Gambit (Machineries of Empire trilogy) by Yoon Ha Lee*
Military space opera where belief and culture shape the laws of reality, causing all kinds of atrocities as empires do everything in their power to force as many people as possible to conform to their way of life to strengthen their technology and weapons. It’s also very queer, with gay, lesbian and trans major characters, albeit little to no romance. Disgraced Captain Kel Cheris is given a second chance by allying with the undead Commander Shous Jedao, who in life never lost a battle, but also went mad and massacred his own army. Now, Cheris must decide just how far she can trust him, with her forces as well as with her sense of self.
My Heart is Human by Reese Hogan
Nine years ago, all complex technology was made illegal. This complicates life for Joel, young transgender single father, as a bionic just uploaded itself into his brain without consent. Scared of losing his daughter, Joel tries to keep the bionic secret while using it to fix his life, but things quickly get more complicated as the bionic gains more and more control of his body. A bit simplistic in writing style but makes a lot of cool parallels of bodily autonomy to Joel’s experiences as a transman.
Bonus rec: if you like the general concept of struggling for physical control over one’s body with an AI, may I also suggest the (much grittier and gory) movie Upgrade.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Host by Stehpenie Meyer*
The Host follows Wanderer, an alien part of an invading force on Earth. Humans have been defeated and are being used as host bodies, but Wanderer's host Melanie is being difficult and refuses to fade away. Instead she fills Wanderer's mind with images of Jared, the man she loves and who's still in hiding. With Melanie's feelings bleeding into Wanderer's the two reluctantly ally to find and keep safe the man they both love. While The Host does feature Meyer's trademark romance - of which I'm not the biggest fan - the more interesting and arguably more central relationship is that between Wanderer and her human host.
Needle by Hal Clement
1950s classic. A small island in the pacific ocean and a fourteen-year-old boy have just become the center of an interstellar chase between an alien Hunter and the criminal he’s pursuing. Robert is a regular boy, but he has a very special passenger: an alien symbiont hiding inside his body. The alien became stranded on Earth as he pursued a criminal of his own species, and now they are both trapped on the same island, playing a game of cat and mouse as Robert and the Hunter struggle to find their prey before it finds them.
Malevolent by Harlan Guthrie*
Lovecraftian horror mystery. Private detective Arthur Lester wakes up in his office, his partner dead, memories fuzzy, vision gone, and the voice of a malevolent entity in his mind. Unable to see, Arthur is forced to rely on guidance from the entity as he attempts to solve the mystery of what it is and where it came from. Is this a book? No. But as someone who reads mostly audiobooks, the difference between a book and a fiction podcast is negligible, and also I love this story and its characters and want all of you to do so too.

Goddess of Filth by V. Castro
Novella. What starts as a drunken seance between friends ends with one of them chanting in Nahuatl, the language of their Aztec ancestors. Following that night, the formerly shy Fernanda has changed. While her family calls for priests, claiming her possessed by a demon, Fernanda's friends believe what has taken up residence in her is something decidedly older. A quick read featuring female rage, desire and empowerment, this is a different twist on the typical possession story.
This Alien Shore by C.S. Friedman
Space opera in which humanity found a way to faster than light travel and began establishing colonies all over the galaxy, only to belatedly realize the method of FTL caused irreversible mutations and disabilities and leaving their nascent colonies to die. Much later, many of the colonies have survived and thrived, and one has found a new method of FTL travel, allowing an interconnected space society to grow. However, Earth is on the hunt for their method and is prepared to do anything to steal it. Trapped in the middle of all this and forced on the run is young Jamisia, who is little by little coming to realize that not only might she be the very solution Earth is after, she's also not alone in her own mind and body.
Touch by Claire North*
Kepler should have died long ago, beaten to death in an alley. Instead, a switch happened as Kepler leapt into and took control of the body of the killer. Since then, Kepler has lived in body after body, having gained the ability to inhabit anyone with a touch and stay for anything from a few minutes to an entire lifetime. Kepler cares much for the host bodies, and when one of them is brutally assassinated, Kepler must find the killer, avenge the host's death, and stop it from happening again. You want a fucked up main character with fucked up morals who still genuinely cares for people? Then boy do I have the book for you!

The Midnight Bargain by C.L. Polk
Fantasy romance. Beatrice Clayborn is a sorceress, but if her family gets its way she won't remain so for long. Married women are forbidden from practicing magic, and Beatrice's father is intent on marrying her off to save them from destitution. Beatrice has a different plan: become so powerful a sorceress that she can herself save her father's business and becomes too valuable to marry off. To achieve this, she strikes a bargain with a minor spirit of fortune. In return, the spirit demands to be present in Beatrice's body as she experiences her first kiss... a kiss with a man who might jeopardize all her plans.
Pandemonium by Daryl Gregory
Del Perce's world is almost indistinguishable from ours, the only difference being the presence of possessing entities that can strike with little to no warning. When he was young, Del was possessed by one of these demons, which was eventually exorcised. But now he’s experiencing a resurgence of symptoms, a voice in his head demanding to be freed. To save himself, Del races to find out the truth behind the possessions.
The Thousand Eyes (The Serpent Gates duology) by A.K. Larkwood*
Sequel to The Unspoken Name (please read that first, I promise this duology is very worth it). These books have a lot going on: portals, flying ships, orcs, elves, creepy snake gods, possessions, cults, immortal evil mages who traumatize teens as their hobby, gay and lesbian frenemies, the works. Csorwe, born and raised in a cult and meant as a sacrifice, escapes her intended death with a mage who becomes her mentor. But he has dangerous motives of his own, and Csorwe must decide where her loyalties lie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Skinful of Shadows by Frances Hardinge
Young adult, historical. All her life, Makepeace's mother has been teaching her how to defend herself from the possession of ghosts, until one day her guard drops and a wild and fierce spirit slips in. When Makepeace's mother dies and she is sent to live with her father's family, this spirit might be her only defence. Because her family is harboring dark secrets, and they have plans for Makepeace... plans which do not care for her well-being. Unlike most other YA I've read in terms of vibes and plot, A Skinful of Shadows is a unique and intriguing read.
Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson*
Young adult fantasy. Artemisia prefers the dead to the living, and is training to become a Gray Sister, a nun who helps the souls of the deceased pass on to the afterlife rather than remain as dangerous spirits. To defend her convent, Artemisia accepts the help of a dangerous revenant, a powerful spirit which grants her great power but also could possess her the moment her guard is lowered. As evil threatens her homeland, Artemisia and the revenant must find a way to work together.
A Psalm of Storms and Silence by Roseanne A. Brown
Young adult fantasy. Sequel to A Song of Wraiths and Ruin. To save his family, Malik has made a deal with a dangerous spirit with equally dangerous demands - the death of the princess. Meanwhile, princess Karina is seeking her own power, meaning to resurrect her assassinated sister no matter what the prize. As their paths intertwine, the consequences of their pursuits keep getting higher, both for them, their nation, and the entire world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grey Sister (Book of the Ancestor trilogy) by Mark Lawrence
Sequel to Red Sister. Fantasy with sci-fi flavor. Nona is being raised to become a killer at the Convent of Sweet Mercy. But dangerous classes aren’t Nona's only problem: her planet is slowly dying, and her own inner demons whisper in her mind. As the sun grows weaker and ice creeps ever closer, Nona and her allies race to save themselves from extinction.
Fifth Quarter (Quarters series) by Tanya Huff*
Sequel to Sing the Four Quarters. Fifth Quarter is only loosely connected to the first book in the series so you could read it as a standalone, however I still recommend starting with Sing the Four Quarters as it is very good. Bannon and Vree are siblings and highly skilled assassins, but they are put to the test when a failed assassination finds them sharing a body, their intended victim having stolen Bannon's. Now, they must choose between remaining loyal to their Empire, or helping their supposed victim find a new body to steal - and he doesn't want just any body, he wants the royal prince.
The Nein Eyes of Lucien by Madeline Roux*
Recommended with the caveat that you're unlikely to get the full experience unless you have also watched Critical Role Campaign 2 (which is quite the time investment, but very worth it). It follows the antagonist Lucien, first owner of the body we know as Mollymauk Tealeaf, both before Lucien lost his body and after he regains it in the ultimate struggle against Mollymauk's old friends, the Mighty Nein.
Bonus AKA I haven't read these yet but they seem really cool
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Scratch Daughters (The Scapegracers trilogy) by H.A. Clarke
Sequel to The Scrapegracers. Sideways Pike used to be able to perform only party tricks, but in finding new friends and starting a coven, the four become powerful witches. But not everyone wants witches around. After having gotten her spectre stolen and losing her ability to perform magic, Sideways is forced to rely on Mr. Scratch, a book demon taking the place of her spectre to keep her alive. Now she must struggle to get her magic back before it’s too late.
Riding the Odds by Lynda K. Scott
Sci-fi romance. Tara Rowan is a spaceship captain with secrets - a past she wants to leave behind, and Zie, an organic symbiote which grants her greater strengths and reflexes. But when sexy Holy Knight Trace Munroe blackmails her in an attempt to rescue a missing princess, Tara's secrets are in danger of being revealed.
What Doesn't Break by Cassandra Khaw
Like The Nine Eyes of Lucien, you're unlikely to get the full experience of What Doesn't Break unless you're also a viewer of Critical Role. It follows the backstory of Laudna, undead sorceress and warlock with the ghostly presence of the necromancer who once murdered her keeping residence in her mind and tugging at her strings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Every Day (Every Day trilogy) by David Levithan
Every day, A wakes up with a new body and a new life. A has rules on how to deal with this existence - don't get attached, don't get noticed, and don't interfere. But when A finds themself falling in love, all their established rules no longer apply. This one has also been adapted as a movie!
This Body's Not Big Enough for Both of Us by Edgar Cantero
A. and Z. Kimrean are twin siblings and private eyes - they also share the same body, calling themselves A.Z. When someone starts murdering the sons and heirs of a ruthless crime boss, it falls on A.Z. Kimrean to solve the case and find the killer before all out gang war breaks out.
A Madness of Angels (Matthew Swift series) by Kate Griffin
Two years ago, sorcerer Matthew Swift was killed. Today, he woke back up. And he isn't alone in his body... Now, he seeks vengeance not only against the one who killed him, but also against the one who brought him back.
Honorary mentions AKA these didn't really work for me but maybe you guys will like them: Bone Rider by J. Fally, The Lives of Tao by Wesley Chu, What's Left of Me by Kat Zhang, Hunter of Demons by Jordan L. Hawk, Odder Still by D.N. Bryn

Matt Tholomule HC’s
• Steve is twelve years older than him, and he was pretty much always the one taking care of Matt growing up.
• Steve and Matt share a dad. Steve’s mom is out of the picture, and Matt’s mom is nice, she treats Steve like her own, but they’re both busy witches and Matty was their little surprise. So they rarely had the time for him, which is why Steve stepped up to raise his little brother. Once Matt was old enough to stay at home on his own, and Steve left for the emperor’s coven, he had to learn how to get by on his own, which is how he ended up as one of Bria’s “friends” at Glandus.
• After enduring so much bullying, troublemaking, and detention at Glandus (a lot of his acting out had stemmed from absent parents growing up and now feeling like his brother had abandoned him), his parents finally decided to transfer him to Hexside, hoping that Matt’s dad’s alma mater would do his son some good.
• Matt isn’t poor, but his family doesn’t have a lot of money either. Being the youngest, he got a lot of secondhand items from Steve, whether it was clothes or electronics. This is partially why Steve left to go join the Emperor’s Coven guard at 18, because he’d had a lot of trouble finding a path for his life and being a guard would at least bring in some steady income.
• Matt hung onto every one of Steve’s letters he received while his brother was away in the guard. He kept them hidden behind his collection of worn Blademage books.
• Matt became obsessed with Blademage after Steve introduced him to the series, on one of his visits home. Matt felt lonely, he had no friends at school and with his parents and brother gone, he collected unique interests to pass his time. He often went exploring the Titan by himself. One day he was walking on the beach when he saw a lady digging through a ton of trash and finding treasure. He recognized her as Eda the Owl Lady from her wanted posters posted all over town. (And yes, if he’s done odd jobs for Tibbles, he’s definitely done some odd jobs for Eda.) He rooted through the trash after her and became interested in the human artifacts he found. He started a collection and researched what he could on humans and the things he’d found. He was actually excited to learn that Hexside had a Human Appreciation Society, he just felt insecure and guarded, desiring to establish his place in Hexside society as a bully because he would not get bullied at another school.
• He started pursuing construction because of his parents. All his extra energy was perfectly channeled into the track, and it was a practical career move. Lucky for them, he is good at it and he does like it. But it wasn’t until Gus introduced him to illusions that he actually felt like he’d found his calling in school. “Illusions ARE practical!” He argued with his parents when he wanted to take on illusions as a track, “Augustus taught me how to do this.” Once his parents realized he was driven and passionate about this, they relented and let him do both.
• Matt developed a crush on Gus sometime after their first trip to the ruins. But he sure as hell would not admit it. He felt stupid for crushing on his only friend, felt like he would fuck it all up and lose Gus if he knew. Besides, it was Gus, and he was so far out of Matt’s league that it wasn’t even funny. But Matt’s also a bit oblivious because he never noticed the signs that Gus liked him back, until Gus actually confesses to him a good while after everything starts to return to some normalcy after the Collector.
• Matty has the biggest potty mouth anyone can imagine. He tries not to swear around his parents, but when it’s just him and Steve home, he lets the floodgates loose. Which is convenient because Steve is just as bad, if not worse.

"Buddy Daddies" IS better than Spy x Family, but it left me with questions
First and foremoest: who is the audience?
I'm wondering because the concept screams of either seinen or fujo, but the foucs is run-of-the-mill shounen. We're throwing our heroes into a situation where they're forced to ask prickly questions about their values and their life choices, and we've got them making the expected discoveries and the obvious choices from that, but no effort is made to dig into the real question:
Why do Kazuki and Rei choose each other?
There are two possible answers to that question: One is a life-changing backstory, and the other is gay. And the singular thing keeping "Buddy Daddies" from greatness is that it never answers.
They're partners because reasons. They're living together because something about couch-surfing idk. They met each other when they were both at rock-bottom crossroads, but did minimally to pick each other up from there. How much do they even know about each other? They certainly don't seem to be particularly invested in why the other has lost at life. As the story begins, they're hardly coming across as friends, and to what extent they end there, it's because of the way Miri influences them, separately.
As such, Miri herself is little more than a plot devices setting events in motion. Too young to be a focal consciousness in a story centred on adult questions, the story never dwells on her and the harrowing experiences she goes through with little more than laughing. She's repeatedly separated from three different parental figures and meets that with nothing but the joy of a reunion, because of course she's not the interesting figure here. That'd be the daddies.
By the end, Rei wants them to be a "real family", but why does that family include Kazuki? By all accounts, that was just some co-worker crashing at his place and who dragged in a kid who changed everything. The show never once questions whether their family will involve anyone more or less: it's Kazuki-papa and Rei-papa and Miri; no talk about any possible new mamas except for the very first and the very last scene, nothing said about why Kazuki and Rei take it for granted that the other wants to raise this child with him.
And the thing is, the thing is, the answer is RIGHT THERE. Kazuki obviously thinks he cannot have the family he wants thanks to his job, or doesn't deserve it thanks to the same; Rei has been raised into the same job, deprived of any kind of parental love and is repeatedly told to "cast off" that weakness. What stands between them and the thing they want (Miri) is their profession as hitmen, albeit from radically different angles for them both. But the show never has them question their life outside of society; only when they lose Miri over it do they truly acknowledge that raising a child is incompatible with being a professional murderer, and even then they never reflect on what their career choice says about what kind of people they are.
It's a gimmick and an easy ticket to action scenes, but it is never challenged. We don't know why Kazuki chose this path and why Rei never broke free before, and when they decide to leave it, it is with the same narrative shrug as their choosing to make a family with another guy who they by all accounts isn't involved with.
And it is frustrating because they show - particularly in its latter half - seems to be hanging on the cusp of diving into it, in connecting the threads between these two lonely men with their differently ruined lives, their different pursuits of a violent lifestyle and the way this would explain why they'd each come to step out of it because of one little girl.
Don't get me wrong - the show is cute and the finale is satisfying in nearly every way I'd expect it. It's just so close to being super memorable, rather than another action-comedy buddy show.
If you want a show where Koki Uchiyama voices a gangster princeling forced into the choice between loyalty to the clan and the sweetness promised by his found family, where the questions about choosing a life of murder are pursued to their ugly end and where twelve episodes are plenty and then some for explaining why these kids are choosing each other, then let me tell you about our lord and savior kunihiko ikuhara and the buttplug kappa magical boy anime
youtube
And that one is not afraid to say gay

Flash Friday Prompt: Celestial Beings (Little Cass fic)
So, I was scrolling through my dash today and saw a post from @flashfictionfridayofficial announcing this week’s prompt. It seemed like fun, so I gave it a go with a Little Cass fic. And wonder of wonders, it’s only four words over the 1,000 word limit!
Read on for a quick vignette of Cap and Little Cass (or, well, not-quite-so-little since she’s eight); hope you enjoy!
“Come on, Cass.” Cap’s chair scraped a call to attention across the floor as he stood from the table. “Bedtime.”
“Five more minutes,” came Cass’s distracted reply, eyes glued to a book held inches from face as she squinted at the text in the thin strands of firelight that managed to limp across the apartment to the windowbench.
Cap shook his head as he capped the inkwell and straightened the stack of reports and memos and requests for shifts reassignments (far more than he would have liked; you could tell the Griffin was paying a visit). “Hun, no. You know the rules. We’re both up early and can’t go keeping late hours. Five minutes turns to ten, and the next thing you know it’s nearing midnight. So come on, get changed, and- Cass.”
Cap frowned over to where Cass was pointedly not doing as she was told. Looking up from her book to glance out the window, taking care to cup a hand along her eye to better peer into the darkened world beyond, she turned to another page and once again bent close, looking at it studiously.
“Cassandra,” Cap repeated in a tone that brooked no room for disagreement and that had sent many a foot soldier snapping to anxious attention. “Put down that book. You can read it tomorrow.”
Cass’s only response was a quick shake of her head, just hard enough to send her curls swinging and afford a glimpse of the determined set of her jaw before settling to dangle about her face once more and study the text along with her. Clearly, she was in no mood to be compliant tonight.
Cap hardened his own expression, the flickers of firelight shrinking timidly away from his boots as he crossed the flagstones to stand alongside the bench, letting his brows lowered sternly hide the conflict dithering in his gaze. He was glad to see what an avid reader his daughter was becoming, truly (hell, perhaps he’d get lucky and she’d decide to pursue safe, non-life-threatening scholarship for a career instead of following in his militaristic footsteps).
But disobedience, no matter what benefits might be reaped from it, was something he couldn’t let stand. Every day he saw the results of parents employing too much in the way of laxity: teenage boys who felt they had a right to however many apples they wished without relieving themselves of even a half-copper, lasses who saw nothing wrong with relocating those half-coppers into far more deserving and personal pockets, and youths of all ages who kicked cats or teased dogs or laughed jeers at the widow shaking her fist them as her ruined washing fluttered behind them like a muddied banner of rascality. He swore he’d do right by Cass, and that included making sure she grew up to be a respected, valued member of society. And the surest route to that honorable future meant leaving no room for rebellious ideas to take hold, which in turn meant ensuring orders were followed (...no matter how much a corner of him wanted to just give her those five minutes).
Folding his arms over his chest, Cap stood formidably aside the bench, shadow falling portentously over her. Cass didn’t give any sign she noticed. Cap drew breath, preparing to lay down a consequence (even though he hated to send her to bed sans a story; good thing he had willpower, or he’d be in danger of turning soft), then paused, catching a glimpse of the page she was poring over.
Boyish curiosity tugged at his brow, causing it to lift with interest. The page was not splashed with the text of a daring tale of knights of yore or an adventurer charting parts unknown like he’d expected, but an illustration of the night sky. Great swathes of deep, deep blue, swirled with purple and indigo, swept across the paper, dotted throughout with stars, so bright and white they seemed to glow on the page, all meticulously arranged into the familiar shapes of constellations. It was beautiful, a real work of art.
“What book is that?” He asked, unable to ignore the tug any longer.
Pulling her nose out of the book’s gutter, Cass shut it, taking care to keep her thumb marking the page she was studying, and held it up so the ever-eager firelight could helpfully fall across it.
Encyclopaedia Astronomae, Seventh Edition, Updated with Star Charts Through 1800.
“Frauline Mariah just got this in.” Cass explained, “It’s on reserve, but since the person who requested it won’t be picking it up until the weekend, she said I could borrow it for the night.” (there were benefits, Cass had long ago learned, to be on friendly terms with the proprietor of the fancy-people’s circulating library beyond a specially-priced membership).
She set the book back in her lap and pointed at the sky through the window, smudged with handprints and clouds of breath. “I’m trying to find out what that is.”
Leaning a hand on the bench, Cap followed Cass’s pointing finger to a cluster of stars, glimmering bright in the cobalt sky, dust of a celestial silver peppering the sky between them like the snow flurries that follow galloping steeds. The Pleiades, his memory supplied, causing his mustache to quirk upward as he remembered ‘discovering’ those himself back when he was a boy and listening with wonder as his father divulged the secrets of the cobalt heavens, without a thought to the hour.
He glanced down at Cass, forehead pressed against the cool pane of glass, hazel eyes bright with an awe he’d forgotten existed until now.
He should just feed her the answer and get her off to bed. It was late, the day would come early, and he had a foundation of character to lay. He should.
But...
“Dad?” Cass lifted an uncomprehending brow at the sight of her dad holding open the apartment door, grinning broad and lantern in hand.
“Bring the book. We’ll have a better view from the yard.”

Let’s talk about Jean Luc Picard and his fatherhood.
I know, it was said thousands time withing the franchise and by actors/characters and etc., but I want to explore the current Star Trek: Picard 3 season
Yeah yeah yeah, we all can pretend that this never happened and just assume that it is not canon, even though real canon without Rodenberry is impossible in anyway, but lets admit that we have this 3 season and live with that.
Its happening and honestly, I sort of like it. Sure, it is not the same vibe as tng, but hey, they had 7 seasons and full range movies to explore the characters while we have only short 3 seasons with 10 episodes each. This is not enough, but I give a huge credit for actors who are still trying to make it better and worth the time and resources. But in anyway, today it is not about capitalist bs and how it ruins our childhood lol.
Of course, giving Picard a son is a bald move, but honestly, so predictable. It is exactly what happened to Kirk when they introduced David Marcus. They wanted to give the character a new challenge, but at least they could have tried to be original. Trop that partners went through tough relationships (all these ups and downs between Picard and Crusher) and after 20 years it appears that one of them hid the child, wow shocking. *Sarcastic giggle*
But ok, that’s the Star Trek vibe and sort of expected move. It was done before, why not again but with a different outcome and atmosphere? What I do not really like is what they did to characters and their values.
I get it that Beverly cares for her son and wants to protect him at all costs. But Beverly I know would not do that. Yes, she is pretty much an independent lady, who does not need a “boyfriend” or maybe even husband. A partner - maybe. But unfortunately, Jean Luc could never be him as much as she wanted. He is way too much into his life just like her, so unless someone sacrifices their career or desires, it simply would not work. We have seen it; it did not work. They are two complete people with their own views on life, so we cannot expect them to push their boundaries and let their own selves go.
But hide Jean Luc’s child, pretending that he will drag the danger on him is hilarious. I mean, they all were in Star Fleet, they all knew the risks from the day one, Beverly knew the risks for Wesley when he joined Fleet and did not seem to have an issue with that.
I do not want to be mean or cruel but lets face it: she is a doctor in a future society, I will never believe that she did not calculate risks of this pregnancy and future outcomes in advance. The pregnancy was not a big surprise for her, you can not have sex and expect TV after. It is a baby if you do not use contraception or even if you use, it is still a baby to expect. My point is, if she accepted Jack and his birth, she should have accepted the risks for him as well.
Question is, why she decided to ruin all relationships with Jean Luc and live her “happily life” hiding Jack? I mean, that is too bs move for her character. She is so much better than that, better friend, better mom, better woman. It is not worth drama to picture her so selfish and ignorant.
Then it comes to Jack and all his “I do not want to see you Sir; you are not my father blah blah blah”. They all Picture Picard as someone who is horrible at fatherhood and sucks with kids. They all show him as “I do not need ANY family accept Star Fleet” and ect. But. There is but.
He is better that that. I do not want to say that he and his character must become a father, no, not all people want kids and a family and make all these sacrifices. And it was absolutely cool to draw Picard as a person who does not want kids and it is ok, it was a good line of his personality. It was. But now we have to face jack and deal with that.
Jean Luc Picard is the most caring for his family man. Whole crew of the Enterprise, his brother and nephew, Ro, random younger ensigns and other secondary characters. We have seen that while he does not feel comfortable with kids, he is pretty much paternal figure for all above.
I was thinking, why someone who is so good with being a father figure, would refuse to become a father one day? I do not think it is because he simply does not want it and that’s it. I think he has much deeper reasons than it appears and shown to us.
We know from season 2 that he had an internal conflict with love and being loved because he has witnessed a horrifying moment in his life (his mother) and it broke him so hard, that he was carrying all this weight through his whole adulthood.
So, what if being the father has its own roots as well?
I think it is all about the responsibility.
Think about it. Jean Luc is the top Capitan, he has to lead the best ship, he is the “golden boy” of the Star Fleet diplomacy and literary everyone is looking at him as a hero. A lot of stress comes with such honor. He cannot relax even with his crew, that is how much he is trying to be that person as everyone sees in him.  The only time when he is being himself if when he is alone. Even with his romantic partners it was hard for him to be true Jean Luc and not Capitan Picard all the time. Women within the Fleet and outside of it: they always have to share him and accept Capitan Picard as a third face in the relationships.
If such a man cannot allow himself to be real himself with non of his romantic partners, how we can expect him to want to become a father? That is what Jean Luc was thinking about. That he cannot be the Capitan for his child, he cannot play multiple character, not for his kid, not for a prospect wife/husband. He loves his found family, but god, he loves his life the way it is too. Jean Luc was not mentally ready for the child and he decided to leave this part of live aside, because he understood risks and consequent responsibilities too well.
But just because he let his fatherhood go, it does mean that he would not make a great dad.
Jean Luc is scared of kids only because of the coming with them responsibility, but it is same sort of challenge as anything else. Once it happens, you just go for it. And that what he would do if he would have a chance to.
I will never believe that he would abandon his kid, that he would refuse to see and help Bev, that he would not make changes in his own life. He risked his life because he had nothing to lose, only his own life, but if he would know about Jack, he would be mindful, because he would care for him. And it is not a sacrifice to start caring for someone and start to respect your life because of that. It is a life, that how it works.
Jack’s argument that Jean admitted in the pub few years ago that he does not need any other family, but Starfleet is nonsense. He did not know about him, how he could possibly say something else? He thought his life was straightforward. Well, it was not.
In season 7 tng “The Inner Light”, when Jean spent 40 years as Kamin, we have been shown, that even with all his ambitions and inner self, he made a great father when he got a chance to. He cared for his children, for his wife, raised grandchildren as well. He is a truly loving man and a father when he really wants it. He has never forgot about the Enterprise during these years, but he made a pretty good life with his family.
I do believe that his life as an officer brings all the risk on his head, but I also believe that if he would known about Jack, he would make it work.
His character deserves better treatment than old 70s jokes of how bad he is as a father.
He is not the type of man who would asks his son to call him a Sir. He is a type that will bring a galaxy on your heads if you mess with his family and especially with his child.

Corpus gay melodrama timeline, the early years: part one
part two
Time: ~200 yrs before Tenno awakening
A group of young Corpus, Nef Anyo, Ergo Glast, Vaia Brix, Leda Lucia and Parru Poetil join a young entrepreneur's guild to kickstart their own empires.
Ergo's father and Vaia's mother are members of the Board, Nef's mother is the most influential career surrogate in Corpus society, whereas Leda and Parru are rising stars, recipients of many stipends and entered the guild via recommendation letter from their early-childhood mentors.
Working together they soon realize their differences and their commonalities - Vaia is hostile to Nef from day one, he has no idea why, on the other hand, she gets on well with Leda and the two decide to become business partners. Ergo offers Nef and Parru to work together and they agree.
Their early lives are uneventful, as most of the serious politicking was done by their parents.
Vaia's mother was to be the surrogate to carry the heir to all Corpus, which is what drove her almost to financial ruin, for that Vaia harbors a deep grudge towards the Anyo family. Before the events of the Deadlock Protocol, Vaia never really knew what the purpose of the surrogacy program was, but the details were not important to her, as her mother's pain and suffering were self-evident, as the woman she respected and looked up to shriveled up to a shell of her former self right before Vaia's eyes.
Nef was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth, spoiled rotten by his mother and showered in attention and praise from the moment he was born. There was not a single person who dared to cross him, so Vaia's hostility was a completely new experience. Needless to say, Nef and Vaia despise each other to this day.
Ergo's father was a thorn in the side to all the other Board members, as he would often be the tie-breaker in controversial votes and used this power to argue for more radical changes within Corpus society. Despite this, he was cordial to everyone and was especially close with Frohd Bek, hoping to have his son become Frohd's apprentice one day. As we know, this apprenticeship came and went with disappointment on both sides.
The most important piece of knowledge in this story is Nef's true identity - he is the son of Parvos Granum and heir to all Corpus.
This information was known to two people - Nef's mother and Ergo's father. Back then nobody knew how he found out, but turns out, the information was hidden within corrupted holokeys, that were scattered throughout the Origin system. Some of them told of Parvos' desire to have an inheritance scheme, so that the best heir would raise to the top. With the secrecy of the final pregnancy of Lady Anyo, Glast Sr realized that something odd was brewing. Why would a surrogate keep a son, an orphan who can't inherit her trade?
In some ways, Glast Sr, planned for his and Lady Anyo's son's lives to intersect - Glast Sr kept his son away from Corpus social events, instead making him study the holokeys, while also studying Orokin technology. Some even rumored that there was no son, albeit a few rare appearances at Corpus events disproved the rumors swiftly. Distanced from the snake pit, Ergo grew up a different person, more honest and kind; which made him less susceptible to Corpus sweet-talking, but on the other hand made him a good target for the most selfish of snakes. Kind, honest people do not survive in Corpus society.
This is why Glast Sr hoped Frohd Bek would mentor Ergo - he firmly believed that Bek was one of the last good Corpus men. A belief that cost him his life. For it was Frohd Bek who ordered the assassination of Ergo Glast senior, thus setting in motion a great schism that the Corpus had never seen before.

shuffle song for any spicy six couple🤠
hey howdy!! anything for my em&merson of all time!!
ooo this one’s from my on repeat and for good reason. it is, in my humble opinion, the ultimate comp-het nancy wheeler song.
and if we’re going spicy six it’s gotta be ronance. years of mutual pining all coming to a head the night before nancy’s wedding, when maid-of-honor robin finds nancy breaking down outside the rehearsal dinner, and they run away together.
i had a whole big long thing written in my notes about this... but then the worms got to me…..
it’s not spicy six but stick with me. what if: wheelingham runaway bride au
ace newshound nancy wheeler is stuck doing puff pieces for the society pages of the big city newspaper after a career ruining pausing incident. she went too far, pissed off the wrong people, and now she's relegated to "human interest" stories. well she's a human too and she's most certainly not interested in covering weddings of the rich and famous.
all she wants is to sink her teeth into some real investigative journalism and get her career back on track. she hears about this "runaway bride" who's left three men at the altar already, and would ya look at that, it's someone who lives in her podunk home town, someone she went to school with even.
she's got a pitch, she's got an in, and her editor is more than happy to get nancy out of his remaining hair for a while.
nancy has vague memories of chrissy cunningham, star cheerleader, queen of hawkins high herself. a real sweetheart who always had a huge crowd of friends. someone who had it all figured out, who had her whole life decided at 18. a straight line to a white picket fence and 2.5 kids. all she had to do was say "i do".
chrissy is already engaged to bachelor #4 before nancy comes to town. first there was jason, then derek, travis, and now steve. she's the laughing stock of her friends and family, but this one is going to stick, she's sure of it. they've been planning this wedding for months, and her fiance is well aware of her history. he's convinced that she just needs to visualize a positive outcome and keep her eye on the ball (him) when she's walking down the aisle. swing, and follow through.
and she loved each of these men, she loves men. but she can’t help but think there’s something missing in her life. she’s so sure about each and every one of them, right up until the very last minute. every time she walks down the aisle, all she can see is a door that’s closing forever, and she never got to even look through it.
when chrissy meets nancy wheeler again, almost a decade out of high school, and sees someone so confident, who's achieved all their dreams, and is living the life they always wanted, it terrifies her as much as it annoys and intrigues her.
nancy, who escaped their dead end town, who does what she wants when she wants, and doesn't let anyone tell her she can't. nancy, who's so comfortable with herself... and who she loves.
who has a reputation for being a frigid bitch, but it's just that she knows what she wants and won't let anyone else's expectations of who she is and how she should behave stop her.
they bicker from the minute nancy comes back to town, and chrissy eventually agrees to be the subject of nancy's story to finally set the record straight once and for all. the sooner she's done with her story, the sooner nancy wheeler and all the confusing feelings she brought with her can get out of chrissy's life once and for all. lock the door and throw away the key.
but as nancy gets to know chrissy better, she realizes she's not the ditzy heartbreaker nancy and everyone else thought she was. she sees someone... good and caring, and with so much love to give. how does it always go so wrong right at the finish line?
nancy sees someone who actually doesn't have it all figured out. who in fact never wanted the plan that was set out before her. someone who's just as desperate to escape it as nancy was herself. if only she'd realize she's been holding the key to her own freedom all along.
and chrissy comes to realize that nancy doesn't have it all figured out either. she's determined and driven, and her blind pursuit of the truth at all costs has lost her more than it's won. friends, relationships, even her career.
as they get to know each other better, they realize just what a mess they are... and start to fall in love with all those messy pieces.
it's the night before the wedding when it all comes to a head, when nancy challenges chrissy about all the questions she didn't let herself think about, and chrissy argues with nancy about all the ways she's making her life harder for herself. wouldn't it all be easier just to go along with the plan? to not have to think about it? it can't be that bad, can it?
the argument ends with a fiery kiss, and nancy walking out the door, leaving a stunned chrissy in her wake.
it's their wedding day, and chrissy is more determined than ever to make this one stick. she's going to do it, she's going to go through with it. steve loves her and she loves him.
but she runs. of course she runs. what else can she do when she has nancy's words ringing in her ears and her kiss lingering on her lips?
chrissy runs, and nancy follows. yada yada yada big love confession with chrissy still in her wedding dress.
they don't get married right away. hell they don't get together right away. chrissy's never even lived on her own before. so they take it glacially slow while chrissy takes classes at the city college and moves out of her parent's house and into a small apartment just down the street from nancy's, temping at every different kind of job she can find until she figures out exactly what she wants to do.
and along the way, she figures out who she is too, the kind of person she wants to be when she's not trying to fit herself into the mold of who someone else wants her to be.
eventually, chrissy proposes to nancy. and when they do get married, neither one of them walks down the aisle. they walk towards each other and meet at the altar.

Why celebrate PRIDE?
Why celebrate PRIDE?  (bit long...but pls read till end) Here is a speech I gave at JBR Capital's Townhall today -
Is it OK to discriminate against someone who is disabled? Is it OK to discriminate against someone because of their age? Is it OK to discriminate against someone because of their creed? Is it OK to discriminate against someone because of their colour? Is it OK to discriminate against someone because of their gender? Is it OK to discriminate against someone because of their ethnicity?
Then WHY is it OK to discriminate against someone because of their sexuality?
Did you know that Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Leonardo De Vinci, William Shakespeare, Florence Nightingale were all from the LGBTQ community.
Roberta Cowell, WWII fighter pilot, racing car driver – 1st one to have gender transformation surgery.
Alan Turing invented a computer that could break the Enigma code!
But he was driven to suicide because of his sexuality. Just think, what else he could have invented, had he been allowed to live and not be persecuted for his sexuality.
Despite contributing to the society, despite paying tax, despite being creative, entrepreneurial, empathetic, intelligent, brave, patriotic, skilled, LGBTQ people were criminalised solely for their sexuality. Police used to regularly hunt them down, entrap them, punish them, simply for liking someone of their own gender!
In 2022, in 11 countries, you can be sentenced to death for being gay.
In 15 countries, you can be jailed for cross dressing or being trans in any way.
In 43 countries, being a lesbian can land you in jail. Just think how this would impact women with children.
In 71 countries, gay men can be jailed. These are laws against consensual activities between adults behind closed doors!
Often these laws are misused to malign people, ruin careers, destroy businesses, break up families. Malaysian deputy PM has had his life turned upside down because of such accusations.
Because of incidences like these, people have had to hide their feelings, emotions, relationships from everyone around them. Because if the truth came-out, their lives would be ruined. They were not hurting anyone with their love, but they were hurt badly if their love was made known to others. For centuries, societies have made criminals out of decent, honest human beings. It forces people to lie and cheat because society is unwilling to accept the truth of who they are.
Living in the closet is horrendous. Not only is it lonely, it is scarily lonely. You are scared of even whispering about your feelings. Opening the closet by even a small crack is fraught with countless dangers. Letting in fresh air isn’t easy. It doesn’t just blow away cobwebs within the closet, it blows away everything you found comfortable in your life. Closets are miserable prisons – worse – they force you to live a lie out in the open. There is no place to hide, yet you must hide, every single moment of your waking life!
About 53 years ago, for the 1st time, some LGBTQ people in NY decided enough was enough and started a movement to establish their human rights – rights we happily give to everyone, till we find out they are LGBTQ. How does anyone’s sexuality make them less than human?
London had its first PRIDE march 50 years ago. First time on 5000 years!
Only 18 years ago, law allowed a person to change their gender. Equal marriage act is only 8 years old. We are still waiting for the rights of a trans parent to put their names on a birth certificate.
Why is this important to ‘me’? It is important because it impact ‘me’, you, people you know and people you might love.
Your best friend, your cousin, your relative, your colleague could be LGBTQ and not be able to share that fact with you, because they are not sure how YOU will react. They are not sure if they will loose your love, respect and relationship by coming out.
How is this important to ‘me’?
My transgender daughter feared all these consequences – and more.
She knew she was trans at the age of 12. She didn’t come out to me till she was 18, because she wasn’t sure what will happen if she came out. For 6 long years, she suffered, afraid at every turn of being ‘discovered’. 6 years! As a parent, you don’t want your child to suffer for 6 seconds, let alone 6 years!
Her underlying health issues were amplified through anxiety, depression, self-harm – because she was not sure what will happen if she came out. She had read and seen enough on the internet, youtube, to know what happens to kids who come out as ‘trans-gender’. She was worried, what will her friends say? Will the ‘family’ refuse to speak to her? Will her parents throw her out of her home? She read and heard that all this can and does happen!
She feared for her future. This, despite knowing I was LGBTQ-friendly. Despite knowing I had volunteered for the Terrance Higgins Trust in the 90s when AIDS was a big scare. Despite knowing how I drilled the importance of equality in to every air cadet I trained at the ATC. Still, coming out was still a HUGE barrier for her.
Sometimes, the biggest thing we have to fear is fear itself!
When my daughter eventually came out to me, she was surprised how much of an ally I was. Her brother was only 13 at the time, but he supported her straight away. Neither of us wanted her to scream silently for the next 80 years. We didn’t want to condemn her to a straightjacketed life in a closet for the rest of her life. Its not a life anyone would wish on their loved one.
Despite support from her university and friends, she waited for 18 months before coming out to the wider family. But when she did, she was surprised how accepting and welcoming everyone was! From great grand-aunts and uncles who were in their 80s to cousins who were still toddlers, everyone accepted ‘Anastasia’ as their own. Last year, when she picked up her courage and wore female clothes at an Indian wedding, everyone there accepted her as a friend of the bride. No one made an adverse comment!
Ofcourse, she has a long journey ahead and there will be some people who wont accept her for who she is. Ofcourse there will be bumps and ofcourse she will have to face subtle and overt discrimination on occasions.
But she knows that amongst her friends and family she will always have unconditional love and acceptance. Always!
This is why we celebrate PRIDE. To give everyone – people of LGBTQ community and their friends and allies – an occasion to show their support for each other and to say, Live and Let Live!

HARLEY QUINN
harley quinn / doctor harleen quinzel is originally from detective comics
harley was an extremely smart and capable young woman who’s mind simply would not shut up. she would think and think and think , constantly having new and exciting theories about the people in her life , the people on the news , and people in general. this theory led to her college thesis , ‘ there are only two circumstances in which a person would completely disregard the rules of society ; when committing a crime , and when in love ‘. in an attempt to prove her theory , an incident occurred in which her long term boyfriend was killed. it is unknown whether she killed him or he killed himself. this entire situation fueled her thoughts and proved , to herself if no one else , that she was right.
throughout college , harley had become obsessed with the joker. she would comb over any interview given that was about him , watch his videos over and over again , and spend days imagining what he would say if she ever was about to speak with him. it was her number one career goal.
after graduating university and getting her PHD , harley’s first stop was arkham asylum. she knew that they were lousy with keeping doctors on staff , and that meant she could possibly get in good with them enough to grant her access to the clown. nearly six months after being hired on at the asylum , her dreams came true and she was allowed to meet with the joker. the first few sessions were uneventful , the joker refusing to speak to her or sometimes even acknowledge her. after a while , though , he started to warm up to her. it wasn’t long before the two had started having an affair. less than a month later , harley helped the joker escape arkham asylum.
her license was revoked and once she left the hearing that decided her fate , harley transformed from quiet and brunette trained therapist to blonde bombshell harlequin.
short and sweet verses :
alternate verse 1 , mad love. harley and joker are in a severely toxic relationship and neither are sad about it. harley knows what she’s gotten herself into and she’s okay with it. she is a member of the gotham rogue’s gallery and the gotham city sirens. she is forever the joker’s right hand woman and nobody can tell her a single thing about it. shipping unavailable to any muse that isn’t the joker. faceclaim for this verse is samara weaving.
alternate verse 2 , nolan / TBM verse. the two are similar enough to be grouped in together. gotham is darker than ever and the young psychologist is just now learning her place in the world. in this verse , she has not met the joker yet ( nolan she is still obsessed but tbm has not introduced him yet ). shipping is available in this verse and my faceclaim is samara weaving
main verse , suicide squad , after being locked away in arkham asylum for more than a year and realizing that the joker had abandoned her , harley decided that they were broken up. she had had enough. he was the reason she was there , ten times over , and he’d done enough to ruin her life. it’s time to take it back. amanda waller offered a position on a task force , and there was no good reason not to take it. harley would never be a good guy , even anti hero was pushing it , but she could do something that was all her own.
so much more to be added when it comes up

Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan - her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

Real-life scandals of NYC’s ‘Gilded Age’ more shocking than any HBO show
By Jane Ridley, Lucy Dunn and Zachary Kussin January 24, 2022
Eat your hearts out, “Real Housewives.”
New York City’s Gilded Age came with a lot of excess, fraud and ploys from heavy hitters from the day.
HBO’s new show “The Gilded Age,” premiering Monday at 9 p.m. EST, chronicles the lifestyles of the rich and famous in Manhattan during the late 1800s — with ostentatious displays of wealth, ridiculous parties and heaps of tabloid-worthy gossip and scandal.
Created by Julian Fellowes, the man behind “Downton Abbey,” the series also highlights the deep-rooted rivalries and prejudices among NYC high society (and the social climbers desperate to get a leg up).
Here, The Post looks at some of the wildest stories of the real Gilded Age.
The Washington Square Arch architect murdered for being a ‘rapist’
To this day, the creations of Gilded Age architect Stanford White define New York City: the Washington Square Arch, Judson Memorial Church and the Players Club, among many other wonders.
But it was his 1906 murder, and the shocking reason behind it, that really rocked the city.
White, 52, had attended the premiere of the musical “Mam’Zelle Champagne” at the second Madison Square Garden, which he also designed. But the show was a flop and theatergoers left early. Among them were Harry Kendall Thaw — 35-year-old heir to the Pennsylvania Railroad fortune — and his 21-year-old wife, Evelyn Nesbit.
When bullets hit White in the face and he fell to the floor, the crowd first thought it was part of the show. But he had been shot dead by Thaw.
“I did it,” Thaw said while being escorted from the theater, “because he ruined my wife.”
Five years earlier, Nesbit was a teenage model and chorus girl who was seduced by the married architect to visit his secret lair on 24th Street — complete with a red velvet swing and a bed topped by a light-up, mirrored canopy.
Nesbit later testified that she drank champagne, blacked out and woke up naked with White next to her. She saw blood on the sheets — White, she would allege, had drugged and raped her.

Still, Nesbit continued seeing her attacker, who lavished her with furs and jewelry, until she fell for coal baron Thaw.
Nesbit resisted Thaw at first, and he became jealous of her relationship with White — a matter made worse by the architect blackballing Thaw from the exclusive Knickerbocker Club.
Once Nesbit and Thaw began dating and she confided in him about the attack, Thaw became enraged, hiring eight detectives to follow White, at a sum of what would be $170,000 today. (As to why he did this: Who knows?)

After the murder, Thaw was sentenced to incarceration in a hospital for the criminally insane in 1916. Some historians have speculated Nesbit’s testimonies about the White rape may have been coerced by Thaw’s defense lawyers.
In her memoir “Prodigal Days,” Nesbit described the events of that night differently: White didn’t drug her; she had too much champagne and fell asleep.
She went on to carve out a successful career in silent films. Just before she died in 1967, Nesbit summed up her part in the trial of the century: “I rocked civilization.”
New York City’s original snob
Samuel Ward McAllister decided if you were in or o
Wealthy by marriage, he kept a list — The Four Hundred — of the people who mattered most in the city’s social scene. The New York Times published it, and those who were left off were not happy. (See: Alva Vanderbilt, below.)
Samuel Ward McAllister kept a list of the 400 most prominent people in Manhattan society — angering those left off it.NY Historical Society
“[The Four Hundred] was the epitome of excess,” said historian Tom Miller, author of “Seeking New York,” a guide to landmark buildings in Manhattan including many from the Gilded Age. “It invented a society that hadn’t existed before.”
McAllister (one of the few real-life characters on the TV show, he’s played by Nathan Lane) claimed 400 was the number of people in New York who felt at ease in the ballrooms of high society. Anything beyond that, he sniffed, was riff-raff.
“He said: ‘If you go beyond that number, you find you run into people who make others feel uncomfortable,'” Miller explained.
Debra Schmidt Bach, curator of decorative arts and special exhibitions at the New York Historical Society, told The Post that McAllister was “an absolute elitist … He was apparently very charming and good at conversation, but he was only interested in people descended from ‘Knickerbocker families’ — those who could trace their roots to colonial Dutch families.”
Bach added that McAllister reportedly bragged that he only had time for elites whose ancestors were “the Huguenots, the Pilgrims or the Puritans.”
The list, meanwhile, was also McAllister’s way of getting invited to the city’s best parties and events — a goal since he had moved to the city in the mid-1800s from Savannah, Ga.
Miller said that, as soon as McAllister arrived in Manhattan, he spent the $1,000 he’d inherited from his grandmother on one set of dress clothes to wear to a society affair. Later, the prominent Manhattan socialite Caroline Astor would become his patron and close friend.
Caroline Astor was a patron and friend to McAllister — until he screwed over his wealthy friends with a tell-all book.Heritage Images via Getty Images
McAllister quickly found that the way to gain the respect of the wealthy was to prey on their inferiority. He told a journalist that $1 million was “respectable poverty and enjoyed belittling Midwestern ex-pats he considered nouveau riche.
He drew the ire of the Chicago Times after writing that, if hostesses from that city wanted to be taken seriously in New York, they should hire French chefs.
He was also known to take cash for getting wannabes invitations to fancy parties — sometimes for as much as $250,000 in today’s money.
But, much like Truman Capote would do 85 years later, McAllister wrote a book that burned the very people who had embraced him.
“It was a tell-all that laid out all the dirty laundry [of the elite],” Miller said. “He didn’t name names specifically, but it was easy to read between the lines. He would use initials — ‘Mr. SV did that,’ or ‘Mrs. B did that’ — so everyone knew who they were.”
When he died five years later, McAllister had fallen from grace to the point that hardly anyone showed up for his funeral — including Mrs. Astor. She had a dinner party that night.
The Vanderbilt who schemed her way into high society
Alva Vanderbilt shocked Manhattan’s polite society more than once.
While she and her husband, William Kissamm Vanderbilt, were incredibly rich thanks to his family’s shipping empire, they weren’t embraced by the city’s upper crust.
Railroad money was “new money” and looked down upon by clans like the Astors, who had made their fortune through real estate and, before that, the fur trade.
📷Excluded from McAllister’s “The Four Hundred,” Alva Vanderbilt showed up other wealthy Manhattanites with the party to beat all parties.Wiki Commons
But Alva, who had been excluded from McAllister’s “The Four Hundred,” was determined to elbow her way to the top of it.
“The first step to get included in high society was to get the attention of high society,” said historian Miller, who runs the blog Daytonian in Manhattan.
And that meant outdoing them. So Alva enlisted famous architect Richard Morris Hunt — who designed the Grand Hall of the Met — to build a French Renaissance-style manse on Fifth Avenue and 52nd Street, called “The Petit Chateau.”
But there was nothing petite about it: Completed in 1882, the four-story, castle-like home occupied a city block and had a 1,750-square-foot banquet hall that proved the perfect backdrop for Alva’s grand scheme.
She sent out more than 700 invitations to a lavish ball — said to cost more than $5 million in modern money. But she purposely left Carrie Astor, the city’s It Girl, off the list. When Carrie complained to her mother, who just happened to be McAllister’s patroness, that she wasn’t invited, Mrs. Astor was forced to invite Alva to tea. At last, Alva had her pass into high society.
“It was such a devious and wonderful move,” said Miller.
And Alva, whose husband was cheating on her, wasn’t done shocking her new peers.
Alva and William K. Vanderbilt’s “Petite Chateau” stood at 660 Fifth Ave. in Manhattan.Getty Images
“Infidelity was rampant and wives were supposed to turn a blind eye,” said Miller of the era.
Alva instead filed for divorce, an unheard-of move in 1895. It became, as one newspaper deemed it, “the biggest divorce case that America has ever known.”
The Gilded Age doyennes resented her for bringing their elite circles into disrepute, and Alva — now with a $10 million divorce settlement — was rendered an outcast.
But by then she’d moved on to other pursuits, including her second husband, Olivier Hazard Perry Beaumont, a wealthy politician.
She also became a key figure in the women’s suffrage movement and helped establish and lead the National Women’s Party. In 2016, Barack Obama designated a home she had bought for the group as a national monument.
And Alva ultimately found yet another way to show up the Manhattan beau monde: She married her daughter Consuelo Vanderbilt off to the Duke of Marlborough, a member of British royalty.

The mark on his wrist was one that was shared with yours. Enji had given up on finding his soulmate, deciding that his career and legacy were far more important than some silly marking on another’s body. Love was something he thought he could go without. But when he saw your bright eyes gaze up at him, your chubby hand wrapped around his index finger, his heart had fallen hard—such a sweet, gentle thing. No traces of fear, of disdain, of disgust for him as a human being. Just pure curiosity and unconditional love. His heart leaped for his little girl.
Enji was determined, then and there, that he would never fail you, not like he forgot the others.
Oh, what plans he had for you, his precious princess. He couldn’t wait to spoil you, to marry you and start a new family once you were old enough. Rei realized this as well. Her youngest daughter, her last hope at salvaging her broken family, was to be had by her husband. The thought frightened her, especially after seeing the adoring look in her husband's eyes when she saw him cradle you for the first time. It was so unlike the stoic nature he held for the other children when they were born, only caring to see that they were healthy before leaving off back to his agency, never giving them more than a fleeting touch. It was nothing like when he held you, snarling at any nurse who dared to take his soulmate from the grips of his arms.
Something that had Enji’s conviction more so than his career was something to be feared. Your mother swore to herself that she would not let her husband ruin you.
Once he fell asleep with you tucked in the crook of his arm, a social worker came and collected you to be sent to a foster home and be set up for adoption. It was better than falling into the hands of the monster of a husband.
After the death of Touya, the pair decided to have one more child in hopes of fixing their broken family, but Rei now knew it was for naught. Nothing could save them know, especially now that Enji had nearly burned the building down when he discovered that his little girl was gone, just hours after he had finally found you.
Rei alerted the commission as well for your protection, that utter bitch of a woman. They very well couldn't have the number two hero caught in an incestuous bond with his daughter, now could they. All information of your whereabouts was hidden from him, blacklisting him from working with any foster children, lest he loses his hero license. Enji may have lost you for the time being, but his patience grew as he did. They couldn't keep him from you forever. You'd be reunited one day; he knows it.
The first time he saw you again was when you were fifteen. It was your birthday and the day he had become the number one hero officially, plenty of reason to celebrate. Usually, he would have taken the time to sit near the rose bush he planted in your honor in his courtyard on your birthday, renewing his vows to find and love you to the best of his ability. Enji took great pride in keeping your memory alive with the bush for his beautiful little rose gone too soon from his grasp. But there you were, mere meters from him.
The foster home you stayed at took you out for dinner when he was meeting with Hawks after the billboard awards. Your eyes were unmistakable, a perfect cerulean just like his own. He was so close, yet so far. My, how you had grown since he saw you. Unlike him, you bore your mark proudly on your wrist, not ashamed to admit to the world who your soulmate was. Not like you actually knew who it was anyway.
Enji was prepared to leave Hawks at the table; a new flame lit under his ass, one far more exhilarating than the thought of being the number one hero. He was up and on his way to speak to you before Nomu attacked him. Damn villains, they'd pay for separating the two of you once again. But his conviction only grew stronger. It wasn’t hard to find you after that; he knew what city you were living in. Instincts lashed out at him, demanding that he go sweep you up and hide you away. No, no. That would make you frightened; he can't have that. He’ll watch from the sidelines, waiting until you were of age to make a move. He was curious to see just how life as a foster child was treating you.
Growing up in the foster system had been a nightmare from hell for you. A cursed child is what they saw you as when your skin sprouted flames every time it was touched by the human hand, burning everything and everyone who came in contact with it. From the moment your quirk manifested, you were an outcast, an untouchable, unlovable freak. Someone destined never to feel the touch of their new parents, their lover, their soulmate.
It wasn't long before you realized that you would remain in the foster system until you aged out. Who would adopt a child they couldn't hug when they cried, hold their hand when they crossed the street, snuggle up to when it was chilly outside? Any potential parent was taken aback by your quirk once you reached for the warm touch of mommy and daddy, only to singe their hand or burn a hole in their shirt.
You learned quickly that your touch was something to be feared, that you were something to be feared. You supposed that’s why you looked up to him so much. So much so that you thought about him late at night when the loneliness seemed to drown you in the sea of your insecurities.
Endeavor was the only one who could understand you, understand your quirk. If only your soulmate mark could match him, maybe you feel the warmth of another human being without hurting or mauling them with your power. Abrasive he may be with the media, but there something about him that was so comforting and endearing to you. In your eyes, he was simply misunderstood, a gentle giant amongst the mass personalities of the other pro heroes.
Watching his interviews brought you comfort when you were lonely, his merchandise made you swell with pride and confidence, and his posters on the wall reminded you that you were never alone. It was a silly crush, but it made you feel better about your miserable life.
You even got to see him on your birthday! Well, not exactly. You happened to be in the same restaurant when your foster parents took you out for your birthday. It was apparent that they just felt bad for you, having looked after you for 15 years only to still have custody of your sorry ass. You were almost certain that they were going to kick you to the curb the morning of your 18th birthday.
Too bad they never had the chance. That fate would have been much kinder than the reality you faced now.
Once the Paranormal Liberation Front had effectively ripped society up by the roots and let the tree of life rot for the world to see, your foster parents packed their shit and left the country while you were at school. You’d been alone in the world ever since and were snatched off the streets, ready to be sold into slavery by the villains of the world. Your quirk was the only thing keeping you from being bought like a bitch from the auction floor.
Enji, on the other hand, was more than eager to do just that. After his public smear campaign by his allegedly dead son, he was dead to the world, finally abandoning his family for good in hopes of finding his beloved daughter. His life was dedicated to searching for you, having managed to track you down through his vigilante work. He likes to lie to himself and say that he’s continuing to fight for the greater good, but Enji does it just to have the chance to see your sweet face again. There wasn’t much to go off of, but he’d rather see his fiery end than to give up. That's how he found you at the auction.
⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆
Another auction night was approaching, which meant another night of humiliation and being displayed like a slab of meat for a crowd of degenerate wolves. Your quirk was the only thing keeping you from being sold; no one wants a fucktoy they can’t touch. It reduced you to physical labor for your captors, but you were better fed because of it. That didn’t mean they still didn’t try to sell you.
After being stripped down into nothing but a collar, leash, and a muzzle, you were brought to the stage and shoved in front of the ravenous, roaring crowd. You could feel their stares seep into your bones, the grime from the floor on your bare feet only adding to the overwhelming sensation of disgust you couldn’t even begin to describe.
The crowd’s excitement was raucous, jeers and shouts echoing off the halls of the underground auditorium. Masks covered their faces for the sake of privacy lest a vigilante break-in and hunt them all down. Even in the lawlessness of the world, heroes were still crawling everywhere to trail after even the slightest scent of villainy. Doesn't mean they’ll win, but hey, the death of a hero is just the same as the auction was to them.
“Up next, a darling girl with a fiery quirk!”
That was your cue. A handler had a fierce grip on your leash, giving it a few tugs for good measure as the crowd laughed at your stumbling. The auctioneer began to list your qualities and physical attributes, including your quirk.
“And she’s a virgin!”
Added for good measure, the crowd fell silent after listening to the abilities of your quirk. You couldn't hate it anymore; it's what was keeping you from being someone’s onahole until the day you kicked the bucket.
“Can I get $10,000?”
Ah the starting bid. The silence was relieving. Just a few more moments and you'd be off that damn stage.
“No? Going once, going twice, going-”
“One million.”
A booming voice came from the back row, the depths of the shadows to further hide the masked man who just bought your life. Why did it sound so familiar?
“Outstanding! One million dollars for the young lady!”
“Going once.”
It couldn't be.
“Going twice.”
This can't be happening.
“Sold for one million!”
No!
You were supposed to be unwanted, just like you have been your entire life! Yet some mysteriously familiar man outbid the entire auction for little ol’ you.
“Off the stage, bitch.”
The handler snarled, yanking you off the stage and causing you the fall and bruise yourself in the process.
“Watch it!” He spat, picking you up by the roots of your hair. “The merchandise needs to be handled carefully before reaching the customer. Let's hope he doesn't mind some bumps and bruises. For your sake.”
“That won't be necessary; I'll be taking her as is. Immediately, if you will.”
The mysterious man stood had already made his way backstage and behind you, standing formidably over your stark form. Your hair was released, dropping you back to the floor.
“Excellent, sir! I’m more than happy to get this welp off my hands.”
A brief exchange was made while you recovered on the floor, shaking in fear as the situation weighed heavily on your already broken self. The handler took the money and returned to the back room, leaving the two of you alone together.
The stranger crouched down to you and extended a hand to brush the stray hair out of your face, touch remaining tender and gentle when you flinched harshly.
“My poor girl, what has the world done to you?”
His coat enveloped your body as he scooped you up in his arms. The scent of him comforted you more than you would have liked to admit. Teakwood and coffee grounds filled your senses as he held you flush against his chest, leaving the auction house with a renewed sense of vigor.
You were placed in the backseat of a car before he dressed you in simple pajamas.
“Rest. You deserve it.”
⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆
At some point in the car ride, you let yourself fall asleep only to wake up in a cozy king-size bed wrapped up in a soft blanket next to a warm fireplace. The false sense of comfort lulled you for a few moments before your situation hit you like a ton of bricks. The anxiety you'd had known your whole life had finally kicked back into gear, forcing you out of bed and into the rest of the house.
It was daybreak, the sunlight slowly trickling in through heavily curtained windows as you walked through the halls and into the kitchen. The man was standing over the stove, sans mask, dressed in a wife-beater and his pajama bottoms. It couldn't be-
“Come in; breakfast will be on the table in a moment.”
Now you were certain.
“Who are you?” Your voice barely above a whisper. “Why did you buy me at the auction?”
A deep, rumbling chuckle flowed from the man.
“I think you know the answer to that, little one.”
His focus was retained on the meal in front of him. “I’ll explain myself over breakfast. Now sit.”
You couldn't help but feel compelled to obey him. While sitting, you took the time to honestly look him over for the first time in your life. Never did you think you would be so close to your childhood crush in such a domestic setting.
He had noticeably greyed but still possessed a majority of his red hair. Muscles were still taught and budging, but he had grown a little bit of a belly. Endeavor was as handsome as ever, aged like a fine wine that you couldn't wait to sip on.
The food was placed in front of you as he took the test next to you.
“Eat and have some water. Then we’ll talk.”
Once again, you obeyed him without question and refrained from eating like a rabid animal. It wasn't even a question, so much so that it is evident that you hadn't had a decent meal in a long time. You were still muscular from the labor you did for your handlers, though.
And Enji liked that about you. How resilient you were, he loved that you inherited his strength but still possessed Rei’s gentle nature. Not that he wanted to credit that woman for anything, but he couldn't deny the obvious. You were his strong, beautiful little girl who had to endure so much because his bitch of a wife decided to separate you from him.
But he was here now, ready to give all his love and protection to his only love. It took everything in his power not to swoop you up from your seat and hold you in his arms until his last breath.
Enji watched you eat, pride swelling in his chest at the thought that you liked his cooking. He couldn't help but wonder what your favorite meals were as well. There's certainly all the time in the world to get to know his little girl now that he had you. And he was never going to let you go.
Your breakfast was devoured quickly, both out of desperation for a real meal and answers to your questions.
“Why did you buy me from the auction?”
It was a complicated question, but you wanted a simple answer.
“I’m your soulmate.” His wrist was on display as he reached across the table to hold your hand.
For the first time in your life, you felt safe. Your one, shining hope was meant to yours and he wanted to be yours. You didn't even question how he knew at all.
His touch was warm and slightly rough, but it was welcome all the same. Even though your skin was lit aflame at his flesh against your, he paid it no mind. He was built to take your quirk, to take you.
“Endeavor…”
“Please, call me Enji.” His thumb rubbed over the palm of your hand. “I’m sure you feel better after having something to eat.”
“Why don't you go take a bath? It’ll help you relax, I can take care of your dishes.”
It was strange how insistent he was on taking care of you, but you can't say you don't enjoy the attention. He seemed to care for you in a way that went beyond caring for a partner, or in your case, a soulmate. But who were you to judge? It wasn't like you had a lot of experiences to use as a comparison.
Making your way back to the bedroom, you took the time to study the house you were in. A traditional, well-kept home, it practically looked like it was untouched. And maybe it was; buildings and homes fully intact were hard to come by these days, let alone ones that were clean and warm.
Enji seemed to lull you into an instinctual sense of safety, even though he bought you out of slavery. Just because he was your soulmate didn't mean that he had good intentions for you, but somehow, his presence alone filled a void in your heart that you had forgotten was even there.
Once you made it to the bathroom connected to the master bedroom, you drew yourself a bath just like Enji had instructed you to do. It wasn't the wisest decision to let your guard down like this, but the man already had plenty of opportunities to fuck you up by this point.
The water was warm and inviting when you sank yourself into it; you couldn't remember the last time you had warm water to clean yourself with. It made you feel light and hazy, slipping into a headspace you had long forgotten—a place of safety and comfort.
Three raps on the door pulled you from your haze as Enji entered the bathroom with fresh towels. Despite the fact that he had already seen you naked, the intimacy of the situation only left you feeling more vulnerable than ever.
“Let me help you.”
He kneeled next to you outside of the tub and pulled a lavender chamomile shampoo from the tub’s shelf. There was room to protest, but you couldn't find yourself willing to do so.
Water was poured over your head before he started a lather in your hair, gently scrubbing your scalp for a while. Even this simple touch made you shudder, it was a long time since you last felt the warmth of someone’s touch. And everything about this man was warm, for you at least. His words, his touch, his heart.
Conditioner was added to your hair as well before he moved onto washing your body. The scrub was gentle across your skin, his hand following after it to help keep the suds from rising too much. Strong hands massaged your back and your neck, both of which needed the much-deserved relief.
“So tense.” He murmured, mostly to himself.
There was a comfortable silence shared between the two of you as he massaged out all the knots and kinks that had built up over the years with your handlers. His touch should have made you flinch but you found yourself pressing into it. A small moan escaped your lips as he worked through a particularly tender spot on your neck.
“Are you enjoying this?”
His lips ghosted your ear as warm breath tickled your cheek and neck.
Your face flushed with a fiery warmth from a combination of the steam, your embarrassment, and the man whispering sweet nothings in your ear as his hands worked at your tired skin.
“Let me help you relax, sweet thing.”
Enji picked you up momentarily to slot himself behind you in the tub. Placed on his lap, you gasped when you could feel his erection hard against your back. Fear started to trickle into your veins as you squirmed slightly, attempting to get out of his grasp.
“Shhh, it's alright, you're okay.” His hand made its way to your throat and rested there gently, stroking over your artery with his thumb. “I’m not going to hurt you, sweetheart. Let me show you how much I've missed you.”
His touch made you feel alive, feel wanted for the first time in your life. You couldn't help but whine when his other hand made its way down your body, gently groping your breast as his lips were pressed to your ear.
“Do you trust me to take care of you?”
His fingers toyed with your nipples, obviously skilled.
“Do you trust me to make the sweetest love to you?”
Another whine caught in your throat as his hand went further, cupping your sex in his much larger hand. He kneaded gently, pressing a soft kiss to your temple when you writhed in his grip.
“Please! Enji-”
Shushing you gently, Enji’s thumb made its way to your clit to stroke in small circles.
“How does that feel, sweetheart?”
You were used to touching yourself, but oh God it never felt like this.
“Good!” You managed to choke out in a wanton moan. “So good! Enji, please, I need-”
A warm pair of lips sealed over yours, silencing you once again. Enji knew how wrong this was, to take advantage of you like this without revealing the truth. But he wanted at least to just once to have you in his arms willingly and eagerly. He wanted to kiss you breathless, listen to your cries and feel your nails dig into his skin as he gave you all of himself without a fight from you. He can worry about revealing himself to you later.
The rough pads of his large fingers started to apply pressure to your clit as his middle finger slipped into your tight hole under the water.
“Don't worry, little one. I'll give you what you need.”
Soft kisses were trailed along your cheek and hand that was on his that was still holding your throat tenderly. Finger pumping in and out of you, Enji whispered sweet praises to you as he felt your hole clench around him.
“Doing so well for me, sweetheart.”
Your breathy moans and whines only served to harden his cock. He felt like a teenager all over again, closing to cumming just from the sound of your voice.
Another finger slipped into your tight core, careful not to overwhelm you too fast. It was obvious you'd hadn't been touched before, not even by yourself. You felt full but greedy for more of his touch.
“Deeper, Enji! Please, can you?”
You were babbling at this point, writhing in his lap as he fingered you nice and slow with thick digits. Enji hummed as he pressed further into, curling his fingers into your G-spot.
Your cry was loud as he began to abuse your most sensitive spot, fully squirming in his arms as tears of pleasure breached your eyes. The sensation was too overpowering for you, making you thrash and arch in his arms.
“Shh, you're okay, sweetheart. You're okay; I'm right here.”
His fingers continued to stroke in a curled fashion, thumb still circling over your twitching clit. Enji kissed you again, deeper and more fierce as he began to fuck you earnestly with his fingers.
“Cum for me, darling.”
Squealing, you gripped his forearm and cried helplessly into his mouth. The build was slow and intense, allowing your orgasm to wash over you in waves of pleasure rather than a blinding, quick light.
“E-Enji!” You wailed. “Enji!”
You shook in his arms, holding onto the larger man for dear life as you experienced your first orgasm. It seemed like Enji knew your body better than you did.
No words were exchanged between the pair of you, but you could feel the tension of your desired hanging thick in the air. This man was going to take your virginity, here and now.
Enji removed his hand from your throat and between your legs in order to maneuver you to sit facing forward in his lap.
“Are you ready for me?”
His honesty made you flush even more. Biting your lip nervously, you hesitated to answer. Were you ready? It wasn’t like you had much of choice; the man could very well take you by force if he so chose to. But you felt safe in his arms, safe with him.
“Let me help you, my love.”
Warm, large hands gripped your backside as he held you steady above his cock. Your hand reached down to line yourself up with his throbbing sex, lowering yourself down on it slowly.
It burned in the best way, stretching you out fully as you pressed your forehead against his chin.
“Good girl, taking my cock so well, darling.”
A pitiful whine left your throat at the praise, hands gripping the forearms that held you in place.
“Can...Can you hold me?” You whimpered. “Please?”
Enji’s arms enveloped you and pulled you flush against his, tucking your head into the crook of his neck as you continued to lower yourself onto his cock. Your breath tickled his ears, making him groan lowly once he bottomed out inside of you.
“Such a sweet girl you are, taking all of me on your first try.”
Another whine responded for you as you ground your hips down on his.
“E-Enji.” You whimpered his name over and over again like a prayer. “Enji!”
“Be still, little one.” Hands back on your hips, holding you in place near the tip of his girthy length. “Let me take care of you.”
Hips in place, the man began to thrust up into you slowly, holding you tight as he stood up from the water. You only gripped and nuzzled yourself into him further, letting out sweet whines and whimpers into his ear while he thrust into you.
Your back was placed against the cool tile of the wall when he tilted your chin up to meet his gaze. Even in this position, he was still at least another head taller than you.
“Look at me when I make love to you.”
Through wet eyelashes, you gazed up at his eyes and let your mouth hang open as he rolled his hips into yours. His eyes shut briefly when he moaned, hissing at the feeling of your wet cunt hugging his cock so well.
“You were made to take my cock, little one.”
Arms reached up to wrap around his neck as he thrust into you, taking his time to make his strokes slow and deep. His hips were flush against yours when you asked him, “Kiss me, please? I want all of you Enji.”
Your bold proclamation stunned him for a moment before yielding, placing a deep kiss and a hot tongue against your lips.
His thrusts became faster as he kissed you with more passion and vitality. For an old man, he certainly had his stamina up to par. Your fingers thread through his red and grey tresses, tugging him closer to you gently as you moaned shamelessly into his mouth.
The pleasure in your core was more intense, fiercer this time around as his thrusts became hard and fast. The sounds of both of your moans and skin slapping against skin echoed off the tiled bathroom walls as the both of you felt your orgasms coming.
“Enji, fuck!” You whined, beginning to squirt on his fast-paced cock. “I-I’m cumming; I’m cumming!”
“Cum for me, princess.”
With a choked sob, you creamed yourself all over his cock, which continued to pound into your hole before he groaned your name and came deep inside you.
Nothing but the sounds of the water sloshing and your labored breathing could be heard as you both came down from your highs.
After a moment of rest, Enji pulled out and wrapped you in a towel before laying you gently on the bed. A towel was wrapped around his own waist as he looked at you fondly, brushing stray hairs out of your eye sight as he sat next to you on the bed.
“I must ask, how did you end up at the auction site?”
What a loaded question, but the intimacy you two shared allowed for it.
“I was kidnapped off the streets after my parents abandoned me when the prison break happened.”
He sighed gruffly and took your hand in his.
“What utter fools, tossing aside a beautiful rose such as yourself.”
His thumb traced over your soulmate mark. You still had yet to know how he knew before ever meeting you.
“It's alright; I never considered them my family. I just wish I could have met mine, but at least I met my soulmate.”
A crinkled smile adorned his face.
“You've done more than meet them.”
What could that have meant?
“I’m your father and your soulmate, little one.”
A rock hit the pit of your stomach as you retracted your hand from his.
“That isn't a funny joke, I'm serious.”
“So am I.” His hand was quick to snatch your back. “What could I possibly gain from lying to you?”
“P-Prove it.”
“Our soulmate marks, I saw yours the moment you were born in the Hosu hospital before my wife separated us all those years ago. I can recite your birthday if you'd like me to, for good measure.”
Fuck, he really wasn't lying. A lump formed in your throat as tears sprung in your eyes.
“Why would you do this to me?” You whispered, barely even able to hear yourself.
“Because I love you. I love you so much, sweetheart. Ever since I saw you for the first time in the hospital, my entire life has changed because of you. All I ever wanted was you.”
Enji was quick to shush your cries, using his free hand to wipe your tears away.
“Will you forgive me for being selfish?”
The disgust and horror filled everyone of your senses, especially when you came to a realization that he was everything you've ever wanted.
What came out of your mouth next stunned the both of you.
“You can apologize by begging on your knees and cleaning me up with your tongue, Daddy.”
