Standing in front of the firehouse, you adjust your helmet and gear and feel the adrenaline rush that comes with being a firefighter. You were proud to become a paramedic at Station 118 in LA, following in your older brother Buck's footsteps. You have always admired Buck's courage and strength in leaving home, building a career, and saving lives. This job is perfect for him since he saved your life back then. You own everything you are in that moment to Buck.
You greeted everyone at the firehouse, eager for a new day. Hen and Chim checked supplies, Bobby inspected trucks, and Buck ate his breakfast undisturbed. Everyone turned theirs heads and smiled, wishing you a “Good Morning” in response.
“I hope you choke on that food. I'll let your lazy ass die anytime.” you greet your brother, still angry about him ditching you up last night and not giving you a ride in the morning.
“Love you too, munchkin!" Buck yelled with a full mouth of milk and cereals.
“Stop calling me that, I'm not five anymore!” you said firmly, pouring yourself a cup of coffee. Eddie laughed, making his way up on the stairs. “Morning to you too!” you greeted him. “Something funny?”
You brightened Station 118 for all to see. Upon entering, the room radiates warmth and light wavily pours down on everyone. You are that magnet of happiness that could cheer up any bad day. Who wouldn't love you?
You watch Eddie enter the kitchen, patting Buck's shoulder on his way to the fridge. He winked and handed you the milk, a sudden burst of warmth covering your cheeks.
Eddie is both Buck's best friend and your secret boyfriend. Well, not that secret, everyone knows except Buck. And everyone is hiding you both until you're ready to tell you big brother.
You and Eddie bonded immediately upon joining Unit 118. All the laugher and deep conversations held in Buck's living room, slowly turned into small electric touches and stolen kisses.
Eddie made excuses for Buck to babysit Christopher while he took you on little dates, most of them between the walls of his home. But you didn't care as long as you were together.
Eddie is the most amazing man you've ever met. Strong, brave, and incredibly smart. All the stories about the war and you still can't believe the man in front of you was some years ago on the open field. He's handsome, all worked up and as cheerful as you every single day. Though, the signs of the war are painted on his skin, he exudes a mature aura that masks his traumas. He's also a perfect father.
Some girls dream of men like this, even fantasies about them being a father, but all you gotta do is open your eyes and admire the view. And it's only yours.
"You're right, Y/n. You're not five. You both are five and acting like idiots.” Eddie poured himself a cup of coffee while Buck's gaze was pointed at you. His face twisted comically in confusion. How did Eddie know you need milk for your coffee without you asking for it?
Eddie is more than thankful to have beside him a woman just as perfect as an angel. You spread love, exhibits passion, demonstrates bravery in saving people, and look stunning while doing so.
However, you still hesitate to reveal your relationship with Eddie, knowing that it could complicate things with your overprotective brother.
As soon as the alarm went off calling a car crash with multiple injuries, you placed your cup on the table and run off to the truck with Eddie by your side while Buck analysing your every move and how the distance between you and Eddie closes day by day. He smells something's going on.
Throughout the day, you and Eddie teamed up seamless and efficient together. Buck, on the other hand, noticed your chemistry and couldn't help but feel a little suspicious. He first lost his partner, but could also lose his best friend and sister ? Buck brushed it off as he hurriedly approached the cars holding captive civilians, ignoring any doubts.
The quiet afternoon allowed your for reflection while washing off the blood under the hot water pouring over your bloody-covered body, then silently enjoyed Bobby's delicious lunch.
“Uh-huh, Buckley siblings aren't talking." "Something's off," Bobby quipped, eyeing the people standing around the table.
Chuckling, you searched for Eddie's sight before the alarm blared once more.
Unit 118 was dispatched to a high-rise building fire. You raced to the scene, adrenaline pumping. The team surrounded Bobby, listening to his command. “Buck, you're coming with me to the back, we need to secure an exit and search for survivors. Eddie, Y/n, Chim and Hen, search the first two floors, pull out the fire, and search for survivors, ten at number.” everyone nodded as he explained to never split up, but if needed, you stay close to a wall and never let go of the hose. “Be safe out there!” Buck nodded to you and Eddie, silently urging caution and a safe return.
As you entered the building, Eddie's firefighter instincts kicked in, and he took charge of the situation. He led the team through the thick smoke and intense heat, searching for survivors and extinguishing the flames.
But as you were making your way out of the building, a sudden explosion rocked the structure, causing debris to collapse around you. You shielded Eddie out of the way just in time, but you were struck by falling debris. Your trapped leg caused a painful mix of blood and agony.
Eddie rushed to your side, his heart pounding with fear. He checked for other injuries with shaky hands.
"Calling for help, ok? Hen and Chim will be back, and you'll be okay!” Eddie comforted, cupping your cheeks, forcing you look at him. You were conscious and likely only suffered a sprained ankle while the blood that flood around was coming from a cut above your knee.
“I'm fine, just a sprained ankle. We should go search for survivors," you suggested, gazing at the ashes of the once-mischievous flames that nearly engulfed the entire building.
Eddie looked at you in disbelief. You and Buck were remarkably alike. Or maybe the gene of recklessness run deep in both you DNA's. He's worried about the leg, despite your pleading to go search for the people stuck in that building, you can't move fast enough. It will only slow down the operation and cause any other damage.
“Here the captain, the building is clear.” Bobby radioed. You breathe easily now, the survivors were out of any harm. “Find your way back safely, the fire spreading quickly to the roof."
“Come on, we have to go.” Eddie said, pushing aside with all his strength the debris that was pinning you down. "Copy that, cap!" Eddie spoke into his radio.
“Y/n, do you copy?" Buck's voice crackled through Eddie's radio. Yours was broken in the fall. Buck searched the perimeter with worry in his eyes.
“Don't tell Buck, please.” you pleaded, afraid your brother wouldn't keep his feet at place, rushing recklessly into the burning building to save you. Eddie nodded, thinking of what he could tell his best friend.
"Y/n's radio broke, but she's en route to the hospital doing CPR.” Eddie fibbed. Bobby nodded at the words and told everyone to go back to the station as Unit 146 could handle the fire themselves. They got every other unit off duty. “Bobby, take Buck and Chim with you. I'm coming right back, Hen can give me a ride. We'll go after Y/n at the hospital.”
“Copy that. On our way now!” Bobby and Buck left, cap confident that the remaining men could handle as the fire was slowly being extinguished.
Buck obeyed Bobby's orders for your sake, though he didn’t really bite that.
As Eddie carried you out of the building with you laying on him, slowly walking to the paramedic truck, you saw Hen's eyes widening. “You said she was on her way to the hospital!" she scolded Eddie, shaking her head in a disapproving gesture. “You hurt?” she checked for injuries on your body.
“Just small bruises and a scars, a spread ankle. "Nothing serious," you report.
Eddie hugged you tight, now clear-minded. He was relieved you both returned from that building in one piece. He admired your courage and dedication. Your kindness towards the injured made him fall in love with you all over again seeing you giving all the injured people a soft smile and help they needed, without a single doubt. You hugged him back, seeking comfort in his arms, preparing your patience for when will Buck find out.
“Ok, Eddie ride with her in the back. We going to the hospital.”
Back at the firehouse, Buck was anxiously waiting for news on the fire. He waited at the station for an hour, pacing through the kitchen, eager for you to get back. His thoughts buzzed with all the worst-case scenarios. Buck rushed towards you as soon as he saw the truck reversing into the station. His eyes turned red when Eddie helped you hop up from the back of the paramedic truck, your leg all bandaged and bruises painted all over you, from your beautiful face to the arms. Slowly limping to him, Buck rushed over to you, his concern evident.
"What the hell happened?" Buck asked, his voice filled with worry.
Y/n got hit by falling debris, but she insisted on continuing to help with evacuation," Eddie explained, casting a proud glance at you. “She's fine now, just a few scratches, but she managed to clear the building.
“Screw about that building. "Why did you do that?" Buck looked at his sister, his protective instincts kicking in. "Why didn't you tell me you got hurt?" he scolded you gently.
"I didn't want to worry you," you replied, giving your brother a weak smile. "I guess you passed to me the recklessness gene," you laughed, trying to ease the tension. “I'm fine, Buck, really."
But Buck's attention shifted to Eddie, and he noticed the concerned look in the firefighter's eyes as he tended to your injury. Buck's suspicions were confirmed as he realized the truth.
"You two are dating, aren't you?" Buck asked, surprised and a little taken aback.
You and Eddie exchanged nervous glances before nodding. Buck's initial surprise turned into a mix of emotions - surprise, worry, protectiveness - but also saw the love and happiness in you both.
"I care about her, Buck," Eddie begins earnestly, looking Buck straight in the eye. "I promise to take care of her." Eddie locked his hand in yours, both of them helping you up the stairs and have a seat on the couch.
Buck couldn't deny the sincerity in Eddie's words, and he knew that you are a capable firefighter who could take care of herself. Reluctantly, he nodded and pulled you both into a tight hug. Buck knows Eddie's a great guy, he also knows about the baggage you're both dealing with, hope you'll both manage to heal each other.
"Just be careful with her," Buck said, his voice filled with emotion. "She's my little sister, and I know how a pain in the ass she could be.” he joked, passing you a glass of water.
Well, maybe all the bad did something good after all.

September. Junior year. Ahn Yujin becomes the talk of the town.
She ditched the short hair and bangs, the oversized sweaters, the baggy sweatpants, the comics and manga she always had stuffed in her bag, and her glasses. It was all replaced by long and shiny light brown hair, clothes that hugged her slender body, unnecessarily expensive-looking school supplies, and clear contact lenses that made her eyes burn with a certain fire.
You can admit that just like everyone else, you were awestruck when you first saw her saunter down the hallway on the first day of school. Who wouldn't? Ahn Yujin has always been drop-dead gorgeous, at least that was your opinion. She has always caught your eye, even when she was wearing those adorable black-rimmed glasses. You didn't see the whole situation as a 'makeover' but more of an... 'upgrade'.
Although it was not like Ahn Yujin of all people needed it.
Ever since her big 'makeover', Yujin was the only thing everyone was talking about. It made you uncomfortable how the boys would talk about her, but at least they weren't being gross. You just hated the fact that everyone was suddenly looking at her because she 'got pretty'. That claim made your blood boil. Even if you weren't good friends with Yujin, you would always consider her as the prettiest girl you've ever seen.
You were worried that Yujin did all this to be liked by everyone. She didn't need to. She had a heart of gold, a fun personality, interesting traits, and a natural talent at making people pay attention to her. That was what made you so interested in her, and that was what made you want to approach her and get to know her.
You just wished that people felt the same as you.
"It can't be helped that people just want to get in other people's pants, (Y/N)," Yuna tells you one day. Her statement made you hit her shoulder lightly, not liking the way she talks about Yujin. "It's true, though! Not everybody is pure and genuinely kind as you are. It's unfortunate, but it's how high school works."
"You spend too much time binging shows on Netflix is what it sounds like to me." Seeun quips. She smacks her lips and gives you your peach-flavored chapstick back, showing you her natural and beautiful smile. Yuna says something about how some shows accurately depict the way school days turn into fashion shows but you decided to shut her out and focus on Ahn Yujin, who was standing in front of her own locker surrounded by a couple of boys. Her poor soul.
Yujin looked like she was diligently listening to whatever those boys were saying, but her tight-lipped smile and frequent nods were a cry for help. Yujin's eyes leaves one of the loud boys for a second and meets yours. You flinched, she puts her attention back on the boys as if nothing happened.
"(Y/N), Ryujin's bored so she wants to take us to the outdoor theatre after school. Wanna come along?" Yuna asks. Without looking, you shut your locker tight and started walking towards Yujin, ignoring your friends' calls and questions. You've seen this situation before, and you always know what to do.
Yujin never asked you to do it, nor did you ever tell her that you would do it. But every time she had a crowd on her, her eyes would meet yours among the sea of people and something just pulls you to her.
"Hey, Yujin," You would say when you arrived in the crowd. Everyone would stop talking because you were (Y/N). Nobody dared to talk over you because you were harmless, you were nice, and Yujin knew you. "Ready to go?" You would reach out to her and she would take your hand without hesitation. The two of you always leave in silence.
Yujin would loosen her grip the more the two of you walk away from the crowd. You figured that being around that many boys would make her feel overwhelmed, no matter how calm and collected she looked. You stop in front of your locker where Seeun and Yuna watched the whole scene, as they have been doing countless times since Yujin gathered everybody's attention.
"Chivalry isn't dead," Yuna smirks. You rolled your eyes, and your hand slips out of Yujin's grip. "Although you should really grow a pair and reject them all at once, Yujin."
The girl in question sighs, "I should, but none of them ever even told me they like me! I don't want to look like a stuck-up." Yujin exclaimed. Even when stressed, she looked pretty. That was a weird observation but you just couldn't ignore it.
You failed to suppress a flinch when Yujin beams at you. "Thanks again, (Y/N). You're my hero." She tells you, leaning into you and bumping you gently with her shoulder.
"Don't mention it." You muttered, fiddling with the straps of your backpack. Seeun smiles at you with knowing eyes, but you ignore her.
The four of you make your way towards your first class which you all coincidentally share. Yuna and Yujin lead the way as they chatted loudly about everything; from their breakfast to their dinner plans. Meanwhile, you and Seeun trailed behind them. Quiet, which was unusual considering Seeun usually had something to say whether it was about her girlfriend Chaeyoung or schoolwork, but no. She seemed lost in her thoughts, but you were too.
Yujin would occasionally look back, mostly at you. It would be a quick glance so you usually don't have time to smile or do anything. You would always be too surprised to do anything at all. But this time, you catch her staring, you give her your best smile, she returns it, and flowers bloom everywhere.
Yujin always had that effect on you. She always will — thick glasses or nothing at all.
~
"Just tell her, (Y/N)."
Halfway through your third period, you excused yourself to the restroom to wash your hands. Coincidentally, Seeun was in the same restroom to do the same thing and one minute into making sure the soap covers every inch of your hands, she says that.
"Tell who what exactly, Seeun?"
You weren't really asking for real, but that was your last line of defense.
"Yujin. That you like her."
You scoffed, turning on the faucet and washing the soap off your hands, "I don't know what you're talking about. Yujin's our friend. I don't crush on friends." You stated. You avoid looking up in the mirror because you would definitely see Seeun staring at you. She always does that. Always trying to take everyone apart through her eyes.
"That's true. You don't. So why are you?" Seeun insists. Finally, you look at her, not bothering to dry your hands first.
Yujin isn't your first crush, of course not. There was Yeojin before her, and before Yeojin there was Lucy. Normally, you would tell your crush about your feelings because it would be too much for you to keep to yourself, and only to your friends. No matter what your crush said, whether they rejected you or accepted and returned your feelings, you would turn out fine. Most of the time you would even do something bold to make your feelings known, but there was something about Yujin that made you so terrified of doing anything that may give her a hint of what you feel for her.
It was her reputation, and what people made her out to be after her 'makeover'. All kinds of students took notice of her. Surely that would've changed Yujin's thoughts of everybody in some way, right?
Perhaps even her standards of what kind of person she should date?
"It's not even about whether or not she's into you," Seeun gives you some tissues, and you dried off your hands. You could really look at her this time. Of course, she was smiling. Seeun was genuinely concerned for what you were feeling, but she was really just here for the excitement of setting people up to date. She loved love. "What are you scared of, (Y/N)?" Seeun asked.
Sighing, you threw the soaked tissue paper into the garbage bin. There was no point in denying it now. "I... I don't want Yujin to think that I'm just like those boys." You admitted.
Seeun's smile only widens. She's beautiful, she really is, but you can't help but think that she was plotting something. It's always the pretty girls. "Yujin adores you. Trust me, (Y/N)." You blushed at your friend's words, but you shook your head.
"You don't know that, Ssen." You sighed.
"No, you don't know because you like her so much you can't even look at her to notice the little things she does!" Seeun exclaims, laughing slightly. You were always afraid that you'd show how much she means to you if you were to ever stare at Yujin for too long. You'd never admit that, though. Not to Seeun anyway.
"I don't know what to do. She's... out of my league. I mean, obviously." You said, gesturing to yourself.
Seeun clicks her tongue several times, "Nuh-uh, that's what we're not going to do, (Y/N). You're wonderful. Remember when I crushed on you? Yeah, wild times. Listen to me," Your friend takes your hands in hers. Her eyes shined with mischief. God, you feared for your life. "Ryujin is going to take you, me, Yuna, and Yujin to the outdoor theatre and you'll talk to Yujin, okay?"
Your eyebrows shots up at her words that indicated confessions, and you hated those!
"You'll talk to her and finally spare me and Yuna of the misery of watching you two play push and pull," Seeun wraps an arm around your shoulders and leads you out of the restroom. Your heart feels light once again. "Seriously. These two years have been hard for us."
Seeun thinks I'm wonderful. Yuna thinks I'm pure and kind.
You stared through the windows of your classroom after you parted with Seeun and returned to your classes, your attention drifting away from the lesson and going someplace else.
Your eyes slowly, almost automatically, move from the clear blue skies to one Ahn Yujin, who was sitting a few seats close to the front of the classroom in the middle row. Breathtaking. That's what she was.
What do you think of me, Yujin?
~
A few minutes away from the school, there stood a quaint ice cream parlor that you've grown to love. Yujin was the one who found it first, then Yuna started dragging all of you there every other week, mostly after a long and gruesome day in school. Today was one of those days, apparently.
"Yuna, you're smart. You're just lazy as fuck and refuse to take your studies seriously," Ryujin is Yuna's older sister, and she decided to join you and the girls early. She really was bored. Lia must be so busy with university if she can't even find the time to hang out with Ryujin on a Friday. "If I can graduate high school, then anyone can!"
"But it's really not my fault that Mr. Lee's lessons on logarithms are boring! And why do I even need to study that?!"
"It's part of the curriculum, Yuna."
"No shit it is! What I'm trying to say is that I don't need to learn about any of that since I'm going to be the biggest pop sensation after Britney Spears!" The youngest in the circle argued.
Yujin leans to your side, "Is she really serious about that?" She whispered.
You nodded, "Yes. She's going to be auditioning for that big entertainment company next weekend." You answered. It made you smile, how Yuna continues to dream big.
"Huh," Yujin takes a spoonful of her bubblegum ice cream. You looked at her, taking in her facial features. Her eyes were as clear as daylight. Your heart jumps every time they turn into crescent moons whenever she smiled and laughed. It was the classic Yujin thing to fall for. "Can I have some of that?" Yujin asks, pointing her spoon at your cup.
You barely touched your mocha ice cream, mostly due to the fact that you were more interested in hearing Ryujin talk about her life in med school. "Sure." You scooped up a good portion of your ice cream and urged for Yujin to take her spoon and scoop it off of yours, but to your surprise, she does the one thing you wished you would've done first.
Yujin leans in and eats the ice cream of your spoon instead. She grins at your bewildered reaction, satisfied with what she has done. "Thanks, (Y/N)."
Awkwardly, you let out a chuckle. You had no doubts that your face resembled the color of a beet. As much as you didn't want to make obvious that what Yujin absolutely sent your heart into overdrive, you were horrible at hiding that kind of feeling. So you hid behind your cup, pretending to be interested in the way the ice cream starts to melt. Yujin continues chatting with Ryujin and Yuna. But she was mostly instigating pointless debates just to see the sisters argue and talk over each other.
"I wish Chaeyoung was here to see this." Seeun mumbled from your left. You gently kicked her ankle under the table and glared at her. Seeun only laughs at the look on your face, and the two of you join the other three and their shenanigans.
There were a few things that changed. Yujin sat closer to you, and whenever she laughed, she would lean into your shoulder. She would also occasionally feed you her ice cream and blind you with her signature dimpled grin when you accepted. Mocha and bubblegum were wasn't among the best ice cream combinations out there, but you would never pass out on the opportunity to make Yujin happy.
Your ice cream continues to melt, and by the time Yujin and the others gets their second cup, yours turned into a drink. You decided not to get another one, not wanting to waste any more money. Yujin continues to feed you her ice cream, continues to charm you with her smiles, and continues to make you fall for her.
She can be mean like that sometimes.
"Do you know which movie they're going to be playing in the outdoor theatre tonight?" Seeun asks Yuna. The four of you stood outside the entrance of the ice cream parlor as you waited for Ryujin to pull up at the sidewalk with her truck. She had it parked somewhere else, saying that she didn't feel like having it right in front of the entrance. And she calls Yuna lazy.
Your stomach was full from all the ice cream you consumed. The things I do to make the girl I like happy. You were totally not looking forward to suffering to your choice of not buying food from the several vendors at the theatre's vicinity.
"Heathers. They have a thing for playing classic movies in there," Yuna laughs to herself. "They're basically setting up the perfect coming-of-age date to all the hopeless romantics out there." She says. You couldn't miss the way she quickly glanced at you, and you held back the urge to roll your eyes.
"I love Heathers." You and Yujin say simultaneously. Her enthusiastic grin melts your heart, especially under the pleasant lighting the street lamps offered.
"I didn't know you two were into those movies," Seeun says. She definitely did. "Aren't you just perfect for each other?" She teased. Maybe you were it was all in your imagination, but you saw how Yujin shyly averted her gaze somewhere else. She started chewing on the corner of her lips, a bad habit that always surfaces when she's nervous. Or incredibly flustered.
Yeah, it's the bubblegum ice cream. They put something in there that's making me delusional.
"As much as I'll be happy for the two of you when you date, I don't think I can handle another sickeningly sweet pair around me." Yuna fakes disgust in her face. It almost made you spiral into madness at how she was clearly insinuating that you and Yujin would eventually be together.
More than friends. As a real couple.
Your cheeks burned at the idea. Your friends could use them as heating pads in the winter.
"Alright, my children! Hop in the Ryujinmobile!" The older Shin finally arrives. Yuna wastes no team and runs towards the passenger seat. Seeun groans, realizing she lost the battle before it even started.
Seeun settles on sitting on the left-most side of the backseat, you sat on the middle, and Yujin sat closest towards the right side.
"There's some blankets in there, use it. It'll be freezing by the time the movie starts playing." Ryujin says as she started driving towards the recreation center, where the outdoor theatre was being held.
"Wow, you're well prepared." Seeun places the blankets on her lap.
"Jisu and I used to go to these all the time," Ryujin wears a pleasant smile on her face, probably reminiscing her days in high school where it was so much more easier to hang out with her beloved. "Well, I snuck her out most of the time, but you get the idea."
I do, you turned your head and stared at Yujin, who was busy looking outside the window and getting lost in her own thoughts. I wonder if we'll ever have those kinds of dates too.
You never used to doubt your imaginations of what could happen when it came to dating Yujin. Yes, now you can really admit that you always crushed on her. Way before she started wearing leather pants and crop tops and tight ponytails. Once, you saw yourself and Yujin sneaking out of your homes at midnight. The two of you would run around town, and you would find solace in a place only the two of you would know.
Those fantasies filled you with joy, and hope because it was just so... Yujin.
But then junior year rolls around and she changes the tides. Is she even the same old dorky Ahn Yujin you fell in love with all those years ago?
"(Y/N), look," Yujin takes your hand and points outside the window with her other. You followed her finger, and you saw a poodle at the sidewalk playing with his owner. Yujin giggles and doesn't stop staring at the dog until it was completely out of sight. You held her hand a little tighter, she returns the action. "Isn't it so cute?" She says. Wordlessly, you nodded.
Yujin doesn't say anything else. She intertwines your fingers and lets your hands settle on her lap.
What was I thinking?
You affectionately ran your thumb over the side of her hand.
She'll always be the same old Yujin.
~
"Move over."
"God, why did the two of you have to be so long?!"
"Why did Ryujin's truck had to be the tiniest truck in the world?!"
"Ryu— she's facetiming Lia, she can't hear us. MOVE!"
You, Yujin, Yuna, and Seeun sat at the back of Ryujin's truck. Surprisingly enough, the four of you fit. But it was tight, and all of you have been trying to get comfortable for the past twenty minutes since the movie started but to no avail. Still, even though all of you were yelling over each other and shoving one another, you were still giggling uncontrollably. You've earned a few shushes since you started pushing each other.
"Okay, okay, clearly this isn't working out," Seeun leans back, sighing in defeat. She grins at you and your eye twitched. "Me and Yuna will find a way to make this tiny space comfortable for all of us. (Y/N), Yujin, how about you get us some snacks? I'll pay you back." By setting up a convenient confession moment. You could imagine Seeun's words in your head.
Yujin hops off the truck immediately, finding no reason to stay. She reaches out for you, "Need help?" She asked. You took her hand and she assists you as you jumped over the side.
"Get me two corndogs so I can shove one down Ryujin's throat for not bringing the bigger truck!" Yuna yells as you and Yujin walk away from them.
"That costs extra money for you!"
"I don't care! She deserves it!"
You laugh at Yujin and Yuna's exchange. The taller girl beams at you, then she takes your hand again and started pulling you towards the multiple food stands sprawled throughout the parking lot. Since it was a Friday, it didn't come as a surprise to you that the place would be packed.
By the time you and Yujin got the food Seeun and Yuna requested for, Heather Chandler dies from drinking the hangover drink made by J.D. and Veronica.
"They're selling... bear-shaped cotton candy." You stated, staring at the adorable blue bear cotton candy inside a clear plastic bag. It looked delicious, and cute!
"You want one?" Yujin asked. You wanted to nod your head, but you did the opposite, refusing to make Yujin spend her money for you of all things. However, Yujin didn't even wait for your reply and make a beeline towards the cotton candy stand. Fortunately for her, the line wasn't that long.
"Hi! I'd like to get one bag of the bear ones for my—" Yujin catches herself. The vendor raise an eyebrow, smirking at your flustered reaction. "For h-her. For her." The tall girl points at you.
(My girlfriend. Oh, how Yujin wanted to say it.)
The vendor hands Yujin a bag, but the cotton candy bear was big. It was big enough to be shared by two to three people. You and Yujin send a puzzled look to the vendor, who was wearing an endearing smile.
"This one's on me. I have a soft spot for youngsters that beat around the bush. Takes me back!" The vendor laughs loudly. Yujin takes the bag, her face red and probably burning. You and Yujin walk away from the cotton candy stand, suddenly not finding it in you to make small conversation.
Yuna immediately swipes the two corndogs off of your hands and gives one to her older sister. Seeun smiles at Yujin and mutters words of gratitude as she accepted the bag of popcorn. Yujin got herself a couple of skewers, which got your stomach rumbling. And you had a cup of hot chocolate and a bag of bear-shaped cotton candy. Such a nice combination of food.
Seeun and Yuna miraculously found a way to make the back of the truck comfortable for all of you. You expected loud chatters and food wars, but the girls were surprisingly quiet. It wasn't even because they were focused on the movie, they were just exhausted. Even Ryujin almost looked like she was going to pass out on the backseat of her truck while facetiming her girlfriend. Seeum blinks the fatigue away, and Yuna tries her best to focus on the movie.
Yujin, however, kept her eyes on the big screen. She was unusually silent. She was hugging her knees as she watched the movie. It was funny — how this incredibly loud group of girls can go from yelling over each other during a movie to being dead silent.
I bet Yuna's going to sleep until late in the afternoon.
"Where are you going?" Yujin softly asks when she sees you hopping off the side of the truck very carefully. Seeun and Yuna didn't even bother to spare you a glance. Maybe they were already asleep.
"I feel like talking a little stroll," You tell the tall girl, clutching your sweater a little tighter around yourself as if it would shield you from the wind. "I've seen this movie at least a hundred times in this lifetime, anyway." I can probably recite the entire script in my head.
Yujin looks at Yuna, then Ryujin, then Seeun (who totally did not give her an encouraging nod), and then back at you. "Take me away." She whispers, grinning as she reaches out for you. You chuckled and helped her off the truck.
When Yujin gets both of her feet on the ground, she doesn't let go of your hand. You don't let go of hers.
Despite what you kept telling yourself, that you and Yujin were just going to take a calming stroll around the theatre to wash away your exhaustion, there was a little voice in your head that kept telling you the same phrases over and over again.
This is it.
This is your chance.
Tell her, (Y/N).
~
From where you and Yujin ended up taking a break in, the screen and Ryujin's truck were mere specks in the distance. You could still see the movie, though, and you still couldn't help but watch it despite your claims earlier. You tried to make excuses for yourself; that you were only watching the movie because it really was a great movie. But you knew the real reason why you were doing that.
Right now, you'd do anything to avoid looking at Yujin. You were afraid that your eyes would betray you, and tell Yujin just how much she means to you. Emotions are powerful like that.
You pressed your arms on the empty bike racks, eyes glued to the distant big screen. Yujin puts her hands on the cold steel and stands tall beside you. You could feel her thinking of things to say to you.
It never really used to be this awkward when you two were left alone, but somewhere along the way, something in the air changed. You knew it was because you started developing feelings for Yujin, but you couldn't figure out her reasons.
Did she not like your company? Did she think you were a bore?
No, Yujin isn't like that.
Yujin isn't also the awkward type, so what was going on?
Realizing that you were only giving yourself more questions to answer and dwell over, you forced yourself to stop thinking and start talking. Anything would work. Hell, you could even bring up school, Ryujin and Lia's strong relationship, Yuna's dreams, and even the goddamn bike rack the two of you occupied.
Instead, the only words that left your mouth was the last topic you wanted to bring up.
"I'm surprised you didn't pull a Veronica Sawyer on us," You blurted out. When Yujin doesn't respond, you turn your head to look at her. She had a somewhat dazed look on her face as she stared at you. Has she been watching me this whole time? She blinks, forcing herself back in reality. "Resident dork turns into local hottie, like Veronica, but proceeds on hanging out with the association of geeks instead of the cool girls, not really Veronica." You joked.
(Yujin blushed. She hoped that the darkness offered enough cover to make you unable to see her state.)
"You, Seeun, and Yuna are literally the coolest girls I've ever met. What are you talking about?" Yujin bumps her shoulder onto yours again, effectively making you smile for the first time in the many long minutes you've been alone together.
"You know what I mean, Ahn." You said quietly, almost as a whisper. You stood up straight, and you now only realized how close you and Yujin had really gotten. Still, you didn't let your feelings win over your composure, so you stood your ground. Yujin didn't have to tilt her head down to meet your eyes, but she still had to look down.
Ahn Yujin completely faces you now, and she chews on the corner of her bottom lip. She's... nervous? Around me? "(Y/N)... I really don't know what to tell you here." Yujin says, breaking eye contact.
You averted your gaze to the ground, "Just making conversation." That was a lame excuse.
Yujin snorts, "Where'd you get these conversation starters ideas from? Im Yeojin?"
"Oh, shut up," You punched her arm lightly and stepped back, putting some decent distance between the two of you. Yujin's soft laugh sets your heart rate at ease. "I just... always thought that it was awfully convenient of you change yourself right when we're a year away from graduating." You continued. Was that too much? Did I even need to say that at all? I should have just steered this boat somewhere else.
Yujin pauses. She takes a step forward, you don't move an inch from your spot. There was a part of your heart that breaks when you spotted a flash of disappointment in her clear eyes. "(Y/N), why do you think I did all this?" She gestures to herself.
You didn't need to think about your answer. "Perhaps you were sick of getting pushed around because you read Boku no Hero Academia. Although, it's really not your fault you have generic taste in shounen mangas." You joked.
"What, you're telling me you have better taste? Are you going to recommend me Kimetsu no Yaiba because if we're talking about generic shounen manga plotlines..." Yujin sucks air between her teeth as she shook her head.
You gasp dramatically, "It happens to be one of the best generic shounen series I have ever read, mind you!"
Yujin laughs at you, and silence came after that. You were quick to clear the air after a solid minute, however.
"I didn't mean to say anything that might've offended you, Yujin," You said. The tall girl decides to listen. "I'll always support you in whatever you do, just like I support Yuna and her dream of being Britney 2.0."
"Thank you, (Y/N). I know you mean well. No offense taken," Yujin tells you. Your chest feels a little less tight now. "But seriously, did you think I went through this... makeover because I wanted people to stop picking on me and think that I'm more than just a dork?" She asked, to which you nodded to.
At first, it seemed that Yujin was confident of her next words, but then she hesitates for a brief second. She reconsiders her next actions, and gets in a battle against herself while you stood waiting for her. You could hear your heart beating in your ears.
"(Y/N), please don't hate me," Yujin pleads. You wanted to tell her that you would never ever hate her, but then she gently takes your hands and pulls you close, forcing you to look only at her and nothing else. "I never cared about what people said about me. In fact, I would still be in graphic hoodies and sweatpants if it weren't... for you."
Your mind stops. What?
"I... w-wanted you to look at me— see me. Really see me. (Y/N), I've liked you for so long, and the fact that you would never see me as more than a friend killed me. So I... I did what I thought I would never be able to do," Yujin drops your hands. You were too in over your head to let them drop to your sides, so instead they hang in the air. "I dyed my beautiful natural locks, I ditched my geeky comics and mangas and my pastel backpack plastered with cheap shiny pins, I started wearing crop tops because I also started working out and got some sick abs and I wanted to impress you with them, and... and I don't know. I guess I just wanted you to give me a second glance."
"But the total opposite happened! It was those gross boys a-and those not-very-nice girls that took notice of me! Now I'm just freaking out because maybe I did all of this for nothing!" Yujin starts rambling. Tears even started forming in her eyes, and you could hear her voice crack the longer she talks.
Maybe you should say a few words. You never want to see any of your friends cry, especially not Yujin and especially not over you! But damn, was this something that will take at least a full week to process.
Ahn Yujin likes (Y/N) (L/N). Goddamn.
"Say something." Yujin mumbles. She couldn't even bring herself to look at you.
"Jin-ah," The familiar nickname effectively put a stop to Yujin's uncontrollable pacing. "I'm sorry. I didn't know this was messing you up. I also didn't know... you liked me like that."
Yujin squeezes her eyes shut and a lone tear falls down her cheek. "Just reject me already." She says.
Instead of doing what Yujin requested, you raised your hand and cupped her cheek. Yujin slowly opens her eyes, and you rub your thumb to wipe her tear away. "How am I going to do that, hm? When I like you so much I can't express it with enough words?"
You pull her close, refusing to let her wander off to where you can't reach her. "Yujin, can I... kiss you?" You asked. Yujin doesn't answer. Not with words anyway. She completely deletes the distance between the two of you and crashes your lips together.
The kiss was eager, sloppy, and messy, but you couldn't blame Yujin. This was her first kiss, and she was probably on cloud nine so of course she wouldn't care if she was doing it properly or not. With that in mind, you pull back a little. Yujin refuses to let you move. She locked her arms around your waist tightly, but you weren't planning on going anywhere.
You cupped her other cheek with your free hand and pulled her in again for softer and pleasant kiss. It was slow, gentle, and you could finally get Yujin to calm down. Turns out when her heart isn't going crazy, she can be a good kisser.
You pull away again, just to see how Yujin was feeling. She was out of breath, and delirious from what had just happened. You were too but you had to try your best to take care of Yujin, as much as your heart wanted to leap out of your ribcage. It was just starting to dawn on you that this was really happening.
"One more time, please?"
Grinning, you brushed Yujin's hair away from her face affectionately. "You don't even need to ask, Jin-ah." And so you do what you were asked.
"You like me," Yujin says when you pull away again. You lost track of how long you and Yujin were kissing. Heathers was probably reaching its end, and your friends were probably starting to worry. But you really couldn't care about anything else, or look at anything else, but Yujin right now. The tall girl plays with the hem of your top, then she beams at you. "You really like me?" She asked.
"Of course." You answered.
"Even when I wore those dumb specs?"
You laughed, bumping your nose against hers. Before you caught her lips again, you made sure to get rid of every bit of Yujin's worries, "Especially when you wore those dumb specs."
The bright look on Yujin's face told you that she will always be that endearing dork you fell in love with all those years ago, and you would never trade her for anything else in the world.

Congrats for managing to finish The Flash! You're braver than any U.S marine, tbh. I left it when I could, lmao. It's been. . . wild seeing how it played out. Okay, here's a fun question: top 10 missed opportunities they failed to take. And which of those you wish to explore in fic? I'm sorry if this is a lot but yeah.
P.S: Eddie is genuinely back and alive??? No B.S?? I am shookth.
Thank you. I get most of my courage from my dog, who lets me rant to her about poor plotting when I watch Flash episodes as long as I give her scritches and encourage her vendetta with the squirrels. :D
Hmmm, Top Ten Missed Opportunities...
In no particular order
1.) Not bringing Harry back in S5. He still had a lot more story to tell and exploring how he learns to live with his new disabilities would have been better than what we got with Sherloque. I mean, the new Wells always winds up growing on me because Tom always had a lot of fun bringing the Wells variants to life, but Harry leaving the Team was very abrupt and his story wasn't done. And now it'll always be this big question mark hanging over the character.
This is definitely something I'd be interested in exploring in fic. I've done so already to very small degrees, but it's definitely something I want to take a deeper look at eventually.
2.) Leonard Snart leading the Rogues. There was the build up and no payoff, thanks to the Legends stealing Len and then killing him off. Leonard Snart and his Rogues are a big deal in the comics, so not having that group come together as a legitimate threat to Barry in the show is always going to be a big disappointment. It meant no more Lisa Snart too, which was really unfortunate.
Guess I'm just gonna have to keep writing my 'Rogues as a dysfunctional found family' fics and imagining what could have been.
3.) Failing to give Cisco a proper send off. After promising an interesting plot for Cisco before S7 began, the build up for him leaving was basically a series of background events in other people's stories. His final episode, though very fun, felt very much like they'd forgotten Carlos was leaving the show until the last minute and had to scramble to send off Cisco.
I've kind of written around the issue, but for me the fix fic is Cisco not leaving at all. So I don't think a proper send off story is in the works for me to write.
4.) Making Frost a lesbian. After failing to keep Hartley in the pilot and having a queer character on the main cast from the start, they should have had an openly queer character on the show at some point. Frost would have been a great choice for this and it would have avoided the relationship with Mark Blaine who was a character that never should have joined the main cast. Allegra being queer would have been lovely too. Or Chester. Just... someone ought to have been out.
Of course they're all queer characters when I write them, so... :D
5.) Never fixing the STAR Labs building. It's a little thing, but restoring the building would have been a great metaphor for the team pulling back together after a time of upheaval. Or perhaps showing the differences in the timeline after Flashpoint.
I did address this point. With squirrels. :D
6.) Taking away Cisco's powers instead of developing them further. Cisco's powers in the comics are truly phenomenal and watching Cisco grow from fearing them to enjoying them on screen was lovely. The abrupt one-eighty on his feelings towards his powers in S5 looks far too much like a bad reaction to breaking up with Cynthia and reeks of the show runners not knowing how to handle writing Vibe. After all that build up for Cisco as Vibe, throwing it down the drain was a massively wasted opportunity.
Giving Cisco back his powers or having him never ditch them at all is definitely something I feature in my fanfics with Cisco that take place in S5 or afterwards.
7.) Not making Hartley more like his comics self. They had every opportunity to grow his character, especially when they reintroduced him post Crisis. And they never did despite clearly being aware the comics character is a much beloved one.
Hartley fix-its are definitely a favorite flavor of my fanfic writing, however. And my fanfic reading. :D
8.) Wally 'graduating' from Kid Flash to Flash. Wally is one of the more popular Flashes in the comics and he deserved to have that acknowledged on the show.
This is something I'll get around to writing fix-its for eventually. I still can't believe the show ended and Wally is still just Kid Flash with the yellow and red suit.
9.) Not having children as metas. We got Frankie, but that's basically it. (Jax was a high school student in 2013, but had graduated by the time he showed up in S2.) The accelerator had to have affected children. Teens sneaking out at night, late night school events like band concerts, younger siblings at football games, etc...
I'm not great at writing kids, but addressing the lack of children as metas is something I want to write. Such as my much younger Joss Jackam that I want to return to at some point. (Also because that version of Mark Mardon is adorable too.)
10.) Only having Flashpoint as a single episode. Flashpoint was a big deal in the comics and would have been a lot more impactful if it had been a longer arc.
Personally, I think the resolution to Flashpoint should have been tied into Nora's death coming full circle for Barry. Though I did think the episode where that night did come full circle was well done. But eventually I will wind up writing my own version of both Flashpoint and how Barry came to tell his S1 self not to stop Eobard from murdering Nora.
And, yup, Eddie's alive again in canon. He's been thoroughly mind screwed by the Negative Speed Force and is still it's Avatar, but destroying the N!SF's crystal and actively choosing not to hate Barry - to set aside his resentment over the life he didn't get to have - seems to have had a profound affect on the interior of the N!SF. Hopefully Eddie's innate good nature will have prove to cause a permanent change to the N!SF itself, making them allies for Team Flash in the future. Though, as Eddie noted, he's not always going to agree with Barry or want to do things Barry's way, so... it's an interesting place to leave him even if I disagree with how he got there.

Half of one. 4x8 heartbreak hotel.
Castle??? Castle has been to this bar 20 years ago & is still kicked out my guess.
Poor depressed alexis. No murder teaser today The 80s are so right
Where is atlantic city? Heavy? oh gun Six Still aSleep Cylinder (Ooh ryan's outfit today hhh except the stripes, espt is wearing pyjamas again tho) Come on captions, let me hear The Gambler being quoted! CASTLE: Well, you gotta know when to hold ‘em. And know when to fold ‘em. ESPOSITO: Know when to walk away, and know when to run. At least the transcript has it [Lanie glares at Esposito.] LP: Detective Esposito, a little respect please? I mean, there is a dead body here. JE: What’d I do? [Lanie turns away with a saucy/annoyed tilt of her head.] RC: You broke up with her. JE: We broke up with each -other. That’s different. RC: Yeah, you think it’d be different, but no. JE: (to Beckett)What’d you tell him? KB: No, I told you I’m staying out of this one.
JE: Women. You sure you want to spend the rest of your life with one? KR: Uh, yeah. !! Mine likes me. RC: (chuckles) Ooh! Speaking of Atlantic City… perfect place for a bachelor party. KR: JE: Ooh, that’s what I’m talking about, bro. KR: JE: We could rent one of these right here, hit the casino, maybe the club. KR: Uh, I was thinking more along the lines of…camping trip. [Castle bursts out laughing, but Ryan looks serious.] RC: Oh, you were…oh. JE: Uh, first of all, no. Second, it’s not up to you. The bachelor party is strictly best man territory. And, by the way, your big date is what? Like, two months away? So, you need to officially tell the guy so that he can start planning something. KR: I still got some time. Um, I--I’m gonna go check on those cameras. [Ryan leaves.] JE: What the f--? Did you see that? He just sidestepped me. What’s that about? RC: It’s almost as though the thought of marriage fills him with an impending sense of doom. (chuckles) Oh, no, wait, that’s me. You know, having a best man is just So Gay. You're proposing to another man to be by your side at a wedding.
RS: We don’t really get along anymore. Me: Well yeah, that's why u got a divorce I'm beginning to remember this episode. There is some intense stuff & I don't understand it. Good thing I'm watching twice & care more about the characters than the mystery. I suddenly figured out why people like writing high school AUs.
Rick trails off as soon as gates looks at him
VG: Go to atlantic city. KR: *Checks his watch twice over* That's true, I thought she meant all the boys but then castle isn't one of the boys he's some tagalong but then she DID want him to go with them & it's good bc then she gets to see becks working w/o castle. She's going to be frustrated & angry without his comic relief & coffee taxiing.
[Castle stops the elevator from closing, he looks all silly & squished.] JE: What are you doing? RC: What does it look like? Did you think I was gonna pass up a road trip to the Boardwalk Empire? (Wow he really is 6'2") The east coast epicenter of dancing, gambling, showgirls, and sin? KR: You do realize we’re going there to investigate a murder, don’t you? RC: Gentlemen, *puts arms around them* JE: *looks at castle's arm around him in discomfort* RC: if I have learned one thing, it’s to not let a little thing like murder get in the way of having a good time. *espt shakes his head, ryan frowns* Oh, and also…shotgun.
Poor ryan, espt always drives & castle, the non-cop, somehow had them respect his call for shotgun "Love you bai!" He loves his daughter sm.
KR: Ah… I’m starting to understand why you ditched Beckett. A--and for the record, the one guy in this car who’s not a real cop is not allowed to call shotgun! RC: Called it fair and square. *KR shakes head* JE: Maybe Castle’s right. I mean, since we’re gonna be there, we might as well consider The Sapphire as a potential bachelor party venue. *smirks slightly to castle* RC: I’m so happy you said that, because there are a number of establishments down there that cater to bachelor party events. I think maybe we should take a little sampling. KR: No, no, no. We are not “sampling” any clubs. JE: What? *looks at him in the rear-view* Come on, bro. Why are you stallin’ us on this? KR: Look, Javier, (he doesn't tap the r, & pronounces it with three syllables instead of two) I— I… (sigh) I've got some bad news. I had to ask Jenny’s half-brother, Nelson, to be my best man. JE: *face falls* RC: *turns to look out the window* JE: Nelson? KR: *looking sadly down* JE: That guy I met at your birthday party? (I'd like to see that. Someone write a fanfic.) Sixteen with braces? Couldn’t stop talking about being a mathlete? KR: It was a family thing. I--I didn’t have a choice. JE: Yeah, you did. RC: No, actually, when it comes to weddings, uh, (chuckling) you don’t. Trust me, you do not want to start a marriage with a family feud. JE: RC: *looks back out the window* JE: This sucks. >:( KR: I know, JE: And I was gonna give you an awesome sendoff, bro. KR: Ugh, I know! RC: Well, boys, I’m sorry. I’m sorry it had to come to this. I didn’t want it to, but it looks like we have no choice. There is no other way. I.B.P.W.O.C. Me: what (also, we should start saying "wed" not "double-yu" RC: Impromptu Bachelor Party While On Case! *holds up for a high five which nobody takes*
I am quoting too much Nice music lol CASTLE: Ah…smell that? That is the smell of hopes, dreams, and endless opportunities. RYAN: Not to be confused with cigarette smoke, day drinking, and desperation.
Love her hair RC: Who's playing? KR: (poor guy looks so uncomfy)
Beckett is wearing PJs this time. Maybe she WAS dressing for castle like he says in s5
This tony fellow. Card counting is legal as long as you can remember it. Btw Dan Sullivan looks like a half-brother mathlete nelson Ryan: sitting straigh Espt: Sitting normal Castle: Standing Is that... slang for sexual favours? Or is it for good luck? Is the good luck smth you only ask your girl for?
Well that's loud, & also I love the little old lady there
LT, one of the two cops I know have names! Along with Velasquez I swear to god AND MY MOTHER I respect this guy.
rystlesito is great lol I know I'm trans & folk catholic but I want to try burlesque. RC: *excited* JE: *pleased* KR: *uncomfy* that is a LOT of cams
Castle: *grabs a chair & rolls over* What about me? DS: Disorderly conduct, resisting arrest in 2003 and, uh…wow. Apparently the last time you were at The Sapphire you accidentally set a mattress on fire and the drapes were covered in.. jam. KR: JE:
I love how gates is beckett's partner here *calls espt rather than ryan or castle* Love ryan's voice: No bloody lip yet. Let it play, please.
Ryan *casually puts hands in pockets, revealing his sexy waistcoat & badge* Haymaker not hook I think but idk He was On The Floor when that happened? CT: And now it’s today and my friend is dead and the money’s still gone. Oof
KB: ... Actually, that’s something that Castle’s pretty good at. VG: *eyebrow* KB: Taking a look at what we have and then helping to find that piece.
This gal looks like someone I know, a mix of several ppl I know. She also does not look like a SW but yk don't judge a book. RC: Well, what with mobile devices being so small and slim, perhaps he had it in his hand. KR: *gestures to castle meaning "yeah what he said"* Amber: His hands were otherwise occupied. RC: *waiting* Amber: KR: *squinting* JE: *looks at rystle* KR+RC: *faces immediately change* RC: OH. JE: *looks back to amber like "my friends are so dumb"* RC: OH, *laughing* I get it. THAT KIND OF MASSAGE. *looks her down*
Gates & beckett are talking to Ryan here. Castle is there too & espt is off somewhere else.
WOAH OK THAT WAS INSANE (also the way espt turns around with his arms out. so cut but the muzzle control is not making me happy)
Mum paused the show to tell us about the time she accidentally threw a party very similar to this. Mum was the goody two shoes kid like alexis & accidentally threw a party like alexis. She was also a wild child sometimes like castle & needs me to parent her, like castle.
CT seems like he is not the guy tbh. Love the music design there with them getting phsyically thrown out XD & the rolling & falling is so good. You can tell that they are actors but idc bc it is great
KB: (on cell) Okay, sit tight. I’m driving down. RC: (on speakerphone) No, no…! KR: (on speakerphone) Beckett, we-- you don’t have to do that. We have – JE: No! We’ve got-- no, we really-- RC: …we got it. KR: Yeah, she’s gone.
Poor alexis, accidentally started a party. Really is like my mom. Cut to RC: This is the worst Impromptu Bachelor Party While On Case ever. JE: This is humiliating. We’re homicide detectives with the NYPD. KR: Unfortunately, we’re in New Jersey. At least we’re not on a ticking clock because a woman’s been kidnapped. *hits espt on chest* Oh! Wait. *espt looks at where ryan touched him* We are. There’s got to be some other way we can get in. *Castle sees a bellhop push some costumes into the casino, leans way over, & smirks.* I HAVE SEEN IMAGES FROM THIS & I AM SO EXCITED. Except facial recognition measures the points between your face doesn't it? distance between the eyes? eye to the tip of the nose?
I need to stop I need to not I can't do this this is too good i will die i have work in an hour (well what I mean is I need to leave for work in an hour & a third & then I actually start my shift in nearly 3 hours but it is not a short bus ride & I need to be there early enough to change but that means I need to take the earlier bus instead of the bus that gets me there only 5 minutes on-time rather than 15 minutes early ugh I forgot to take my anti-depressants yesterday & so I'm hella angry rn. I don't like having a job. The horrors. Maybe if it was an easier commute, I didn't have to iron clothes, & it was JUST line cooking, no prep, or JUST prep & no line cooking, & I actually understood what I was doing, & I didn't have to take a long bus ride in the heat, & I actually passed for male, & I understood whom I'm supposed to confirm my breaks with, & I only had to work 5 hours instead of anything more like the horrific 8, I would be ok. But sadly that is not the case. I should take my anti-anxieties.)
Ok I pressed play & it only lasted for a few seconds. I love the way the two of them are wearing the same outfit but castle in the middle is not. Also daaaang I love seeing ryan's I-have-hip-problems walk with that shirt undone so far, & then even castle's walk is good, & tbh espt is doing p good himself. Can you believe I went through a phase I thought I was a lesbian?
[The boys enter the casino as Elvis impersonators. Castle passes a showgirl and they catch each other's eye. She inspects his outfit.] SHOWGIRL: Very nice. RC: (Elvis voice) Thank you. Thank you very much. [Castle turns back around.] JE: How do you know she wasn’t talking to me? RC: (chuckles) Well… [Castle indicates his costume.] JE: What? Elvis can’t be brown? I’m Elvez. (XD XD XD I LOVE IT F YEAH NATIVE BOY) [Esposito turns around and struts off. He nods to some strangers nearby.] JE: Hey! How you doing? [The boys pass security personelle.]
I need a fic of castle pitching the idea now
In some way I'm all for holding 10mil hostage to get out of sleeping with him. [The bouncers find them.] JE: Oh, hey, guys. Uh, we were just leaving. KR: This isn’t the ballroom. Huh. [Ryan and Esposito exit, but the bouncers stop Castle from leaving.] This is the 16 hours previous, isn't it? It might have been 6am, now it is midnight, that's 16 hours. Long day of work huh. You know, legally you can only have someone work up to 16 hours & not longer than that.
Oh no the piano Oh no the gizmos too! Castle would be mad but proud. AC: Now everybody: OUT! Cut to rysposito getting thrown out KR: Really? JE: Really? If it wasn’t illegal I’d kick your ass. (tho I can't tell if espt said both "really"s or if one was from each like the transcript claims.)
Love how castle is just letting his feet hang yk it took me a second in the beginning to realize it was castle. The cutting for the intro was, interesting Wait illuminati? I like the card playing analogies.
Beckett: *walking out* *stops when she sees her boys looking like elvis & elvez* [Beckett arrives to find Ryan and Esposito in their Elvis costumes.] JE: Oh… KR: Um… funny story? KB: JE: We, uh… Look, this is… We can explain. KB: No, I’m not even sure I want to know. KR+JE: It was Castle’s idea. [Castle exits the casino.] RC: And it worked. I know who killed Sam. All three: Who?
Love the way ryan points that little sneer castle does lol
Oh thank goodness they are back to normal. I really like dan. You said you'd let her go. & just stares down the mobster. *leaves the laptop up* That was ryan not charlie... TM: Come on. If I killed Sam, you’d think you would ever have found the body? The guy you’re looking for ain’t me. He's right He's right again, u can't get money from a dead guy He forged her signature. When her laawyer found out the layer killed sam.
Oh yay back in NY, finally they got some sleep.
Oh wait I was wrong it was not a forgery or a lawyer. Girl u should have burned it. RS: So, when he told me that someone wanted him dead, I thought, “Here’s my chance.” Wait americans can just do that? Don't you need a license to own a gun? You need a license to carry & a license for concealed carry, right? Gosh that's scary. We should get rid of guns. If you want to fight someone, do it right.
I like gates. I like her jelly beans VG: You mean Castle. KB: You said it, not me. [Beckett takes some candy.] VG: He’s not a cop. KB: Yeah, but that’s what makes him so good. VG: (scoffs)Well, speaking of which, where are they? KB: I gave them the afternoon off. Apparently, Ryan got stuck with an underage best man, so the boys are giving him the unofficial bachelor party. VG: I trust you’ll edit their side of the investigation in the report.
Poor alexis, but I love the music Took castle a long time to open the door. Becks gave them the afternoon off tho, why is he back so early? & why does he seem SO hungover? RC: Where’s the, um… where’s the little silver dog statue that’s usually on the back of the couch? AC: Oh, I think Gram said she needed it for set dressing for her play. casually blames gram XD Alexis should have also leaned her head back on the couch like rick. Would have been a good ending.
So I have to go to work in half an hour & I want to punch smth. I'm usually fine once I get there but it's just... starting out is difficult. I can feel my face getting red as I type this from the anxiety. idk what to do for the first part of my shift. idk who to talk to. idk where to get instruction from. The sous chef & the chef are both busy af so I shouldn't talk to them but idk who the shift leader is. I hate doing prep when idk what I'm doing, I hate the cramped space there, I wish I was skinny not necessarily for aesthetic purposes but for mobility purposes. I wish I had a better memory I wish I had better communication I wish we had a 4 hour work day with a four day work week. Except that's full-time, I wish I personally got a 3 day work week. Edit: I'm content with my two day work week. I might be happier with a 3 day work week if I didn't have 8h shifts
So wish me luck. I love you all. I'll be sure to work on my fanfics on the bus ride there.

21 things for 2021
Under a cut because shit is boring to people not me.
1. Got engaged at 00.01 am, 01.01.2021. Have now spent a year Being Engaged. It was mostly a lot of fun!
2. Also got pinterest for the first time for wedding planning reasons, and marvelled at how rich some people are, and how expensive even a standard Traditional Western Wedding is (thank fuck for family with big back yards, and kiwi chill). I also now want to learn how to crochet.
3. Didn't draw as much as I wanted. Probably my biggest regret of the year?
4. Didn't listen to enough music either. '22 needs more art and more music.
5. April (and May) was the Medical Drama Month. Would like to avoid Wellington hospital for another 5 years, thanks.
6. Also started studying again! Fucking hate it, but that's life. Fun thing about being An Adult is that you can study and hate it without it being an existential thing.
7. Said goodbye to second of the 3Bs. As far as putting down pets goes it was as close to perfect as you get. She was ready, but not suffering too much, and we were all in agreement and ready to say goodbye. 16 yrs is a good life for a cat.
8. Also said hello to Merlin, my awful, violent, filthy monster kitten. He's actually grown into a really lovely cat, but oof. Was rough going for a while there.
9. Belle isn't well though. She started the year with Big Allergies, and ended it with and ear infection and being (kind of, she wouldn't be xrayed) diagnosed with heart valve disease. So 2022 may be a really shit year.
10. I've been growing my very thick, very unreasonable hair long this year because I want long boho hair for my wedding. It's the longest it's ever been and I sort of love it but mostly hate it living with it and will be chopping it all off asap post wedding. Nice thing is I can donate it and still have a decent haircut.
11. The things with the lack of art is that there was so much life happening there kinda wasn't room for it in the same way as before. A pretty big reason for wanting to ditch freelancing - if I'm going to draw I want it to be for me.
12. Having said that I did knock out decent 18ish page comic draft this year. Still need to finish the art tho.
13. And after going round and round I think Wake Up, Check Phone needs to be a weird prose/comic hybrid. It's such a lonely, close story, and I don't want to lose that atmosphere to the more explicit image, or the big scenes to clumsy descriptions.
14. Still trying to work up the courage to finish Peace Day. There's a new little interlude I want to add. Just moments and details to really make the world hurt.
15. Now to actually finish any of these projects. Haha.
16. Also post-30 health fuckery. A lot of which was stress and the general decay that waits for us all. With my trusting walking companion now arthritic and with a dicky heart I'll need to get serious about making time for extra exercise. Use it or lose it, ay.
17. Home life has been weird. People leaving, lock downs, etc. Looking forward to getting some quiet and stability next year (cut to some kind of unforeseeable 2022 drama here)
18. I don't like the fashion of doom and gloom of social media this year. Not because I think life is roses or some shit, but because that unrelenting apocalyptic thinking is something I still associate with the deeply selfish myopia of mental illness (whole fucking story in that, not the time or place for it tho). General boo to all forms of social media this year. Distracts from life and actually useful pursuits. A sort of synthetic, substitute socialization and achievement.
19. But despite not seeing my friends in person much it was actually a pretty good year for keeping in contact and having good communication? Like, proper chats and ph calls etc. Going to try for more in person socializing now that covid restrictions have changed.
20. Going to also try to be more proactive about managing stress and anxiety. Simple acknowledging a problem is not the same as dealing with it.
21. 2022. Incoming. Probably a lot of more-of-the-same. Hopefully less bullshit, less drama, less freelance. More art, more music, more people. Definitely some hard times ahead (not looking forward to putting down my dog at all), and still a whole fuckin wedding to go (going to be great! But so exhausting!) And probably a honeymoon??? Covid/general unknowns willing??? And study (boo). And married life ( ❤❤❤ )
Happy new year everyone.

ive been wanting to read the clone saga for a little while now but ive been struggling to find a good reading list, ive found like four but theyre all different so i'm unsure which one is the best to follow, would you say the one on marvel unlimited is pretty accurate or do you have a different, preferred order? thanks and hope youre doing well!
So to be upfront: I really love the Clone Saga. It’s a total superhero soap opera, but as those go, I think it’s one of the best ever conceived of. That being said, the way it was published is an absolute nightmare to follow -- it’s one interconnected event that is both dependent on a story published two decades before it and then spread out across...
I started counting the titles off on my fingers and got to seven before I said “fuck it.” And that was before I factored in the Ben Reilly solo stories when he was still in the Scarlet Spider costume and limited series like The Lost Years and Redemption. (THE BEST CLONE SAGA STORIES.)
I’ve never actually looked at the Marvel Unlimited suggesting reading order for the Clone Saga before, but at a glance it seems all right -- I would back it up a little bit, because the first issue it lists for Amazing Spider-Man is #394 and Ben Reilly very briefly appears in #393, but if you’re not being totally completionist about it that’s not a big deal. They also have you reading The Lost Years a bit early, in more of a chronological order than in a published order, and I think The Lost Years works best at a point when it’s asserted by the story that Ben Reilly is the “true” Peter Parker and our Peter the clone. So you could read it at the point where Marvel Unlimited recommends -- it is an extremely good story, so I wouldn’t blame anyone for jumping on it early -- or you could read it in publishing order, where it comes in before Amazing Spider-Man #406. Be sure to read the issue that’s just labeled “Spider-Man: The Lost Years” with no issue number on Unlimited before The Lost Years #1, it’s pretty important. Other than that, it looks solid for the most part, but I feel like it kind of cuts off in an awkward place -- with Ben taking over the Spider-Man mantle and Peter and Mary Jane leaving for Portland in Spectacular Spider-Man #229. It’s fine for marking the end of a story, I guess, but not so great if you want to find out where to read afterwards and I think if you’re tackling this story you should see it through to the real end, which is Spider-Man: Peter Parker #75. I mean, this cuts off before Spider-Man: Redemption, which is the culmination of Ben and Kaine’s personal war and just a really incredible story. So it feels like half a reading list at most to me.
My suggestions:
If you haven’t already read the ‘70s story that is the foundation for the Clone Saga, start with Amazing Spider-Man #144-146, Giant Size Spider-Man #5, #147-150. This gives you the first appearance of Ben Reilly and the first appearance of a Gwen clone, as well as the background for the Jackal’s cloning process.
After that I’d use Marvel Unlimited’s reading list until you hit its end with Spectacular Spider-Man #229. This is going to take you through until Peter gives the Spider-Man identity to Ben when he and Mary Jane leave New York. Past this point I would use reading lists for Ben Reilly and Peter to jump around between issues, because you’re still going to be doing a lot of jumping around. I personally like the Complete Marvel Reading Order because they’re better formatted than the Marvel wiki and more complete than most Unlimited reading lists.
So after Spectacular Spider-Man #229, hit up this Ben Reilly reading order. That should open to page 3, but if it doesn’t, that’s the page you want. Start with Scarlet Spider-Man Unlimited #1 and go from there. There are trade paperbacks available in print, Comixology, and, shall we say, “other places” easily googled, that collect Ben Reilly’s appearances at this point in chronological order -- this is what I used my second Clone Saga read and it made things much easier. Look for Spider-Man: The Complete Ben Reilly Epic books #1-6. If you grab those you can kind of just use them past Marvel Unlimited’s reading order, they have pretty much everything in them, including the issues I list below.
You’re going to pick back up with Peter Parker in Spider-Man: The Final Adventure #1-4, in which Peter picks up the mask “one last time” in Portland to solve a mystery at the genetics lab he’s working at. It’s very good. It’s gonna make you very upset about his and Mary Jane’s baby. I see it on CMRO’s Ben Reilly reading list so I won’t throw their humongous Peter Parker one at you too, but if you want to look it up separately go to page 39 of the Spider-Man reading order. After The Finale Adventure, you’re just going to follow through until you hit Spider-Man: Peter Parker #75. If you want to skip things on the list to shorten your reading load, I recommend ditching the Green Goblin solo comic that’s listed -- it’s not about Norman Osborn but rather Phil Urich, Ben Urich’s nephew who stumbles upon the Green Goblin’s stuff. It’s... fine? It’s very ‘90s in a vaguely annoying way. Conversely, don’t skip the Osborn Journals as that is actually pretty important. And that’s the whole story! Good luck and stay safe!

Why is your husband the most Iconic and sweetest person ever?! We(I'm confidently assuming that I'm not the only one) need to know more about him.
Oh, you may regret this.
(If you’re squeamish about blood, you might wanna proceed with caution. I promise I’m not trying to be dramatic. There’s blood in this.)
He is iconic, at least to me. And he’s probably really only “sweet” to me. Also to the cat, but he denies this. To everyone else, he’s just a quiet sort of guy with a permanently “done” look on his face.
What he planned to do from childhood was join the US Navy, because his Dad had been in the Navy. He wanted to be a technician on a submarine.
As soon as he graduated high school, he went to talk to a recruiter, and got sent to take the ASVAB. His scores on that were great and he was willing to enlist for a long hitch. The recruiter was like “it’s not even my birthday.”
But he failed the hearing part of his physical, so his status was “disqualified recommending waiver.” He didn’t know that his hearing had degenerated from type 2 (moderate) to type 3 (severe). The eval was to see if he could hear all the comms with his headset cranked up to max without hearing aids (which he hated wearing anyway). When he missed some of the cues, he was fully disqualified.
Then he had to figure out what his second choice for the rest of his life would be. Nothing really jumped out at him. He’d never really thought about it. But his family couldn’t pay for college, so he would need a job.
His best friend got him on as a cashier working the graveyard shift at a 24-hour gas station/mini-mart. During breaks, he looked over the course catalog from the local community college. He thought maybe he could do one of those non-degree cert programs, like becoming a welder or a mechanic.
A week before, a dude who had sued that chain of gas stations for damages from a personal injury found out that he wasn’t getting a settlement. He was across the street from the one where my husband worked. I guess lawsuit dude got enraged all over again, thought “I’ll show them”, and loaded the .22 he had in his jacket before heading over.
My husband was behind the counter, where the liquor was, thinking he was dealing with just another drunk customer at 4-fucking-AM. When he turned to ask if he needed anything else, lawsuit dude shot him in the side of the face from about six feet away. The bullet wound its way through his jawbone and he instinctively reached up to his mouth because he felt loose bits of his teeth on his tongue. (Sort of a dark in-joke, when one of us asks the other about a day that had obviously not gone well. “Bad. Not gargling-my-own-teeth bad, but not great.”)
He would’ve spun around by then to take cover behind the counter, but the sound of the gunshot stunned him because he heard it perfectly. He was born deaf/hearing-impaired, so he’d always heard things a certain way, through a certain amount of… I don’t know, static, interference, fog? But this he heard perfectly and it stunned him.
(“If their headsets went up that high, I could’ve joined the Navy.”)
So he didn’t turn in time to miss the second bullet, which hit him in the chest from the same range. As he turned, the third one hit him in the side of his stomach. The fourth one hit him in the thigh, nicking his femoral artery. Then his best friend showed up to tag in for his shift, heard the loud noise, ran in to help like a moron. So the last thing my husband heard before he blacked out was his best friend screaming at the guy to stop, and then a few more gunshots after that.
If a Jeep full of hard partiers hadn’t pulled up to get gas and ran next door to call 911, he’d be dead right now. Of course, lawsuit dude was hell and gone by then.
He woke up in the hospital ten days later, heavily drugged. He tried to talk but they had done something to stabilize his jaw so he couldn’t speak. He was in and out for a couple of days after that.
A day or so later, the thoracic surgeon sat down and told him that he’d died a couple of times, and that they tried to get the bullet out of his chest, but it had ended up less than 4cm away from his heart, so it was too high risk. They would have to leave it in. He apologized for how wide the scar was from when they opened his chest, because they had to work so quickly.  When they brought him in, he was covered in blood, all over. His hair had matted together from lying in it until the EMT people got there. One of them told him later, “We saw the booze behind the counter and assumed a bullet had hit a couple of bottles of red wine.”
Not so much.
His best friend had died in the ambulance on the way.
There was two years of recovery, facial reconstruction for his jaw, lots of dental work, physical therapy, follow-up procedures, and so on. There was a court trial that dragged on and on.
It hurt when he breathed in, it hurt if he laughed. It all hurt. He’s a big dude, 5'10, shaped kinda like Wolverine (comic Wolverine, not Huge Yakman Wolverine). His health had always been good. He said he felt like he was being punished for not appreciating it enough while he had it. Up til all that, he’d been a devout Catholic, but that burned away real quick. He says that the 18 year old working at the mini-mart was a different person than the one who got wheeled out of the hospital a couple of months later. He didn’t know that guy.
He spent the next ten years on what I call a Chuck Norris tasting tour, where he was likely suicidal but not aware of it. He survived two terrible motorcycle accidents, a spectacularly failed marriage, he was thrown off a horse and hit the ground with a thud about 30 feet below, and then a drunk driver plowed into the back end of his car at top speed and he ended up ass over tea kettle in a ditch.
A few months after that, he started having terrible chest pains. He thought it was just pain from the impact with the steering wheel, which broke a couple of ribs. But when it kept going even after his ribs had healed, he went back to the hospital. The impact had shook stuff around and now the bullet was moving closer to his heart. Moving very very slowly, but yeah. So they had to open him up again to get it out.
(“Would you like to keep it?”
“…What?”
“Some people like to keep the bullet.”
“Uh. No. Thank you. I think a decade’s enough.”)
Fast forward to ‘98. I was a year or so off of a devastating event/blue screen of death thing of my own. I had a baby that I had never planned to have because I wussed out of the adoption process (I’m not saying I regret that, I’m just saying). I was on a little death-seeking tour of my own, when some mutual friends pushed us together. I do not know why. Maybe because we were the same amount of “over it.”? Maybe to take us both out of the dating pool at the same time, thereby making it safer for everyone? “You know someone who’s a walking disaster? Me too!”
The wheels almost fell off the wagon a couple of times. He told me he loved me and I didn’t talk to him for a couple of months. He sent me an instant message that said, “I am not playing Peter Gabriel outside your goddamn window. Get the fuck over this.” The age gap (22 years) made him pull away a bit there for awhile, but we didn’t need any Peter Gabriel for that shit either.
Nothing really surprises him or catches him off guard. This sort of weird Midwestern Zen thing that I don’t really understand because I’m kind of the opposite. Our communication is weird because neither one of us talks about anything that’s really bugging us, but we kind of talk around it.
I asked him to marry me a few years after we’d moved in, and he said “I don’t know, the last one didn’t go too well.” (A charming understatement.) I was cool with that. I was like… 83% cool with that. Almost a year later, while we were watching a movie, he turned to me and said, “Yeah.“
A YEAR later.
“Yeah?” Like I would fucking know what he was talking about.
“I’ll marry you."
"About time. Would you say that you were trying to decide the entire year or was it more of an on-and-off thing?”
“Oh, fuck off."
Anyway – courthouse, Vegas, etc.
What I need you to know about him, more than anything, are these three things:
1) When one of my family members (an uncle I didn’t know well) showed up to threaten the two of us, he quietly took that man by the arm and walked him out to the parking lot. I was watching from our doorway. I thought I was about to see him rip the guy’s head off and go bowling.
I didn’t see him make an angry face. I didn’t hear him raise his voice. It was a quiet conversation, and then that man backed away, got in his car, and left. That was 15 years ago, and I haven’t seen him or heard from him since, though I got a letter from my biological mother the week after, asking what kind of psychopath I was living with.
Still no fucking clue what he said, though.
2) His idea of asking me to move in with him back in ‘98 was to start replacing the furniture in my apartment with new furniture, but leaving that new furniture at his apartment. "Got you a new desk."
"I have a desk.”
“Your desk isn’t gonna go with the chair.”
“What chair?”
“The chair I bought you last week.”
“You bought me a chair last week?”
“Yeah, come over and look at it.”
As near as I can tell, his plan was to slowly replace all of my furniture but keep it at his apartment and to slowly move me in a box of things at a time until I was like “Wow, all my stuff’s over there.”
3) When little kids ask him about the inch-wide scar from his collarbone all the way to his navel, with a narrower scar on top of that one from the second surgery, he tells them that he was shaving with a straight razor and suddenly sneezed really hard.

More Au's cause I'm a nerd
The bar was bursting with people as was typical on a Friday night. Young adults flocked in having received pay checks or who were just looking for a great way to end the work week and start the weekend. There were all sorts of people, those who looked like they belonged there, those who seemed completely out of place, and others who came for a good time instead of drinking. Thalia was the one working behind the counter, as comical as it was, she despised alcohol yet it was one of the few jobs she somewhat enjoyed. She could at least watch from afar as the crowds hurried in and out. There were certainly interesting people to look at. It wasn't as bad as one would think. Sighing, Thalia wiped down the counter as a customer left and picked up the glass to clean it out. She caught sight of a girl at the end of the bar tapping her fingers slowly with her chin rested in her hand. She didn't look like the type to drink much. Setting the glass aside Thalia made her way over to the silent customer. "Hey." The girl looked up almost without interest. "What's up? You want anything?" "No I'm good. Just thinking." The corners of the girl's mouthed twitches up ever so slightly. "Alright but if you need anything let me know. I'm not as scary as I look...promise." Thalia gave her a soft smile and went about her business. Thalia knew what it was like to want to be somewhere where the noise could drown out unwanted thoughts and you could just think. About anything and everything, whatever you wanted. The seconds ticked by and turned into minutes and Thalia was forced to turn people out for the night, or at least the ones who'd had a bit too much to drink. As the crowd thinned Thalia noted that the girl remained seated in the same spot as before. Sighing she made her way back over. "Whatever you're thinking about must be pretty important." "Huh?" The girl looked up her eyes widening as she came b ack from whatever alternate world she had been stuck in. "I said you must be thinking about something important." Thalia repeated patiently. "Yeah you could say that." The girl laughed lightly and her eyes fluttered about as if she was nervous. "Well I'm closing up so..." The girl's eyes lit up with realization. "Oh. Oh I'll go sorry." She made a move to stand up but Thalia rested a hand on her arm. "I'm saying I have a bit of time so if you wanna talk feel free. I've heard all sorts of things so don't even think about being embarrassed." Thalia laughed and the girl sat back down giving her a thankful smile. "It's...personal." The girl shook her head as if she couldn't believe why she was even talking to the bartender. "Tell you what. I'll tell you one personal thing about me first." Thalia offered. The girl tucked her dark hair behind her ear and nodded in agreement. "I actually hate alcohol but I work here because...between you and me, it's amazing what kind of people walk around here. I mean I don't judge but like I could invent a people watching game. People bingo. " The girl laughed louder this time and Thalia couldn't help but smile at the sound of it. "Sounds interesting. One more thing. What's your name?" Thalia didn't hesitate to reply. "Pretty." "I guess. What's yours?" Thalia asked raising an eyebrow. "Reyna." Thalia nodded. "Well then Reyna, what's on your mind?" Thalia watched her new acquaintance think for a moment before speaking. "Trying to figure out my life and what I'm going to do with myself. Mom's gone, Dad's gone, and my older sister can barely hold a job." She rushed the words out but let out a sigh afterwards like a weight had been lifted from her shoulders. "Let me let you in on a little secret." Thalia leaned forward so her elbows rested on the counter. Reyna leaned in curiously. "Life is a piece of shit. But it's about perspective, see it how you want." "Those are some wise words for a bar tender. The shit part and all." Reyna smiled. "How'd you get stuck here anyways?" "Didn't finish school. People tell you that kind of stuff won't get you anywhere but I like what I do. Decent money. I don't need much. I spent most of it on my brother's education." Thalia shrugged indifferently. "That's pretty honorable of you." Reyna mused. "Maybe. Maybe not." Reyna regarded the link dressed bar tender. She was pretty on her own way, but her eyes were the best trait. They complimented her entire appearance. They were the most expressive part of her except for the lopsided and charismatic grin. "What would you do if you had a choice for a job?" Reyna asked after a moment. "I don't know. I never put much thought into it. I wasn't particularly good in school being dyslexic and having ADHD made it hard. Had to take care of my mom and brother while my dad ditched us. I never got the opportunity for good things." Thalia sighed sitting on the edge of the counter in front of Reyna. "That sucks." Reyna gave her a sympathetic look. "Yeah. But you've got options don't you?" Reyna couldn't help but smile at the other girl's hopeful expression as if she genuinely cared. "Yeah. I have school to finish. I'm hoping to go to law school but it's a lot of money." Reyna sighed shaking her head. "You got a good paying job?" Thalia asked. "Not really. I do what I can when I can but school just weighs me down a lot." Thalia could hear the tiredness in her voice. The truth was she had more money than she let on. Her Dad had left a significant amount of money for her on a potential college fund. That wasn't going to happen. "Maybe I can help." Reyna watched as the girl disappeared and came back a while later with a slip of paper in her hand. "This was all supposed to be for me but I can't put it to use, I'd rather it go to someone who is going to use it for good." Reyna's eyes widened when she realized what it was. It was a check for a large amount of money. "No I can't take this are you crazy?!" "My dad left it for my college fund but I don't need it just promise me one thing." Reyna nodded vigorously. "Promise me you'll be a good lawyer." "I promise." Reyna smiled brightly and leaned over the counter hugging Thalia tightly. "This is amazing you have no idea how much this means." "Well, I'm glad it made a difference. Guess I did something good in my life for once." Thalia would close up that night and Reyna would leave bursting with new hope and energy. Thalia would smile the rest of the night for once feeling at peace with herself. ------------ The Carmel skinned woman walked down the street hands tucked in a winter coat and knit hat on her head. She turned sharply around a corner passing quickly through the street lights to the little place at the end of the street. It was exactly as she remembered it. Opening the door slightly Reyna peeked inside and her eyes immediately settled on the bar. Sure enough the girl was there, the one she remembered from all those years ago. She regretted never getting back to her or keeping in touch. Reyna sighed and walked inside seating herself at the counter. She studied Thalia from afar and if it was even possible she was even more attractive since the last time they'd had an encounter. Thalia smiled to whoever she was serving and glanced down at Reyna's end of the counter. Confusion morphed her features before it was replaced with surprise and then a fond smile. Thalia made her way over to the familiar face that now belonged to an older and more attractive woman. "So, did you come here to think about the universe again?" "As a matter of fact I didn't." Reyna mused. "Anything I can help with? After all these years?" Thalia asked quirking an eyebrow. "Well I just wanted to let you know that I graduated school." Thalia smiled brightly and couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. "And I'm looking for a place to stay. See it's this rather big place, to big for myself in fact. I figured it be nicer to have another occupant." "And you're asking me?" Thalia lagged shaking her head. "Why?" "Consider it a way to make up for what you did for me. You helped a lot. Besides I'll need an assistant." Reyna spoke coyly. "Why is that?" Thalia questioned. "I managed to acquire the funds for a law firm." Thalia's eyes widened once more and Reyna smiled at the expression of pride on the punk's face. "I hope you know I'm not a law type." Thalia replied. "Doesn't matter." Reyna insisted. "Take it or leave it." Thalia smirked and thought for a brief moment before looking around the place she'd been stuck in for years now. "Tell you what. I'll take you up on that offer under one condition." "Whatever you want." "Go on a date with me." Thalia said flatly. It was Reyna's turn to look surprised but the expression quickly vanished and she nodded. "Deal. Besides you're the cutest punk I've seen around." Thalia laughed at Reyna's remark. "Thank you. Stick around and we can have this place to ourselves once the hours end." Reyna's eyes glistened with mirth. "Wouldn't mind if I do." With that Thalia went back to her business unable to believe that after all this time what she'd done had actually paid off in more ways than one. More importantly however she was surprised that her actions hadn't just changed some unfortunate girl's life but her own. Perhaps things did have away of coming back around.
