Oooh how about an AU where Hartley’s part of Team Flash from the start 👀
I have soooo many thoughts on this kind of AU. Some of which may or may not be contradictory. :D
So first and foremost, I do not see Hartley agreeing with the pipeline. Either he convinces the team not to go in that direction at all or it becomes the sticking point that makes him leave the team when it becomes clear the pipeline isn't going to be the short term solution he was assured it would be.
Hartley does leave the team at some point regardless of the pipeline. I could see this either as EoWells swaying Hartley to his side and pitting him against Barry only for Hartley to learn the truth of his friend/lover in the worst way, or him splitting from the team due to being unwilling to work with Harrison anymore over his growing number of secrets.
I really like the idea that if Hartley still knew about the flaw ahead of time and that's what splits him from the team, that he turns whistleblower about it and goes to Iris. He may not trust EoWells anymore but he's grown to trust Barry and, through Barry, Iris too. It'd be good for Iris too to get something big to her name early that has nothing to do with the Flash (that they know of anyway) and I could see it spurring Mason to be more respectful of Iris and give her an in for picking up Mason's investigation into Wells when it gets him killed.
While Hartley would split from the team during S1, I think S2 he'd be firmly back in with the team. It'd be awkward at first and take time for ruffled feathers over S1 events to settle, but he'd be a permanent part of the team going forward.
Romance wise, I'd either want him to meet Roderick but not necessarily start dating him yet, meet David Singh and get to have his canon love interest from the comics, or have a belligerent UST thing with Cisco that settles into dating eventually (but maybe they both casually date others first). Admittedly, Hartmon is my preference but I could see any of these working out really well. (Or I could go even more AU and do pre-Barry/Hartley...)
Ronnie and Hartley are friends. Which probably bewildered Cisco until he and Hartley begrudgingly became friends too.
Hartley would at least talk about having a younger sister, if not have Jerrie show up. (If she didn't appear in S1, then she'd definitely show up in S2.)
Hartley has pet rats! They are cute and he's so soft for them. :D
S2 events would have Hartley's parents reaching out to him and the struggle there for reconciling with them. Hartley wants it very much, but not to the point of compromising on certain things his parents need to keep working on if they're serious about wanting their son back. I can see him pointing out that them trying to be less homophobic is great, but he can't trust it if they aren't going to work on not being transphobic or otherwise queerphobic.
The Rogues! I can see him teaming up with Snart in S1 perhaps, making his choice to side back with Team Flash in S2 rockier with a more Rogues focused S2. Snart wants Rathaway's skills back on his team and Hartley is running out of polite ways to say 'no'.
I've got a lot of ideas for this kind of AU, really. And it's one I very much want to write at some point.

Hi! As a westallen fan I have to ask, do you have any “best recs” for them? Any rating, any warning, just tentatively dipping my toes into it and wanna see what you recommend!
Ahh I’m more than happy to help you out! I have a few different categories for recs for them, and do keep in mind that these are all fics about the CW/Arrowverse show (I haven’t read comics, sorry 😅):
Canonverse (no roleswaps):
when your feet don't touch the earth (you can't feel the things that hurt) by pennflinn (post-s3, Iris-centric)
Breakaway by blueorchidseverlasting (with some bonus Henrytina because I love them)
Crown by centralcitywest (with some bonus Nora West-Allen and Iris getting to be a black woman!)
Undeniably Deniable by backtothestart02 (some father-daughter Barry & Nora feels, Iris is amused)
Fashion Emergency by @kitkatt0430 (some pre-canon sweetness!)
Iris-centric Roleswaps:
sunrise (not sunset) by Astrid_Goes_For_A_Spin (Empath Iris)
paradigm shifts by Astrid_Goes_For_A_Spin (Detective/Cop Iris)
Lavender Lightning by @fezwearingjellybananas (Speedster Iris)
Two For the Price of One by @kitkatt0430 (both of them are speedsters!)
General AUs:
cut through the clouds by mmtion (Summer Camp Counselors AU)
in plain sight by Astrid_Goes_For_A_Spin (Coffee Shop AU with a dash of espionage)
And one of my own, for good measure 😂:
just like a tornado (she’s taking us by storm) - 5x18 fix-it, in which Barry and Iris actually talk instead of arguing and decide to get answers about the future firsthand!
Hopefully this helps! Thanks so much for the ask 💞

Hartmon Halloween 2020 Masterlist
A big thanks to all who made fanworks for this event, but also to those who spread the word, and anyone who liked/reblogged/kudosed the fanworks too. It was great to have a little more Hartmon content with this long weekend. 🎃 💚 If you haven’t already, please do show the creators some love if you’re able to.

Would you stay in a haunted house overnight for a million dollars?  For Hartley, the answer is yes.  After being disowned, he needs the money to finish his degree and, besides, it's all fake anyway... right?

Hartley didn't like Cisco. So, if he was desperate enough to be asking Cisco for help with his apparently haunted house, maybe Cisco should take him seriously. There had to be an explaination for it all somewhere. Maybe with the electrics. Flickering lights definitely sounded like an electrical fault. Not ghosts, ghosts weren't real.
There's something going on with this house though.

Barry had dragged Hartley out to the woods on some kind of Bigfoot investigation, but at least this new superhero is incredibly attractive

One morning, Hartley belatedly realizes that his apartment is now home to three people and a dog. It's a one bedroom apartment. There really just isn't enough room for everyone anymore. The obvious answer is that they find a place big enough for them all and then move in together, but that's easier said than done.

5+ headcanons for an AU where Barry tells Iris about his powers in episode 1 instead of telling Joe?
I do indeed have so many ideas and opinions here. :D
So Barry realizes he can run super fast and accidentally face plants in a laundry truck (isn't that lucky???) and the first person he wants to tell is Iris. She's the one who has always believed in him about weird and impossible things, so he goes to her first and shows her what he can do. With a soft landing spot since he's still working on stopping.
Iris encourages Barry to go to Dr. Wells, Cisco, and Caitlin for help figuring out his powers. She's perhaps a bit iffy on Wells, but Cisco and Caitlin were nice people who she got to know fairly well with all the visiting STAR Labs. Barry wasn't exactly talkative during that time, after all, so Iris ended up slowly befriending Cisco and Caitlin and she trusts them even if their boss is kinda a dick.
Joe would probably find out as per canon and then immediately go into the doghouse by trying to exclude Iris. Iris would not take that well and it'd be a West feud in Episode 2. With Barry, perhaps, pointing out that Iris hasn't told Joe about dating Eddie and that while she deserves to be angry about Joe attempting to keep secrets from her... she's already keeping secrets from him.
I think not telling Eddie would be a point of contention for them early on. Iris loves Eddie, of course she thinks he's trustworthy. But Barry doesn't know Eddie and is jealous of him for being Iris' boyfriend. Barry would likely make the (very valid) point that it's his secret, not Iris', and he doesn't actually know Eddie well at all yet. Iris would thus push Barry and Eddie to hang out together so that they will know each other better.
Thus, a Barry & Eddie bonding episode! Maybe after the Rainbow Raider episode, though, so that there's tension over Eddie understandably not being thrilled about the Flash hurting him and Barry coming to like Eddie despite himself, but not feeling he can tell Eddie about being the Flash. Because Eddie doesn't like the Flash right now and if he knew Barry was the Flash then he wouldn't like Barry anymore.
That said, with Iris read in she'd blog about how the Flash's actions were a result of being affected by the Rainbow Raider, so the Flash's reputation would take less of a hit after that incident.
There'd be a lot more Barry/Iris/Eddie moments and Barry would realize that he's got feelings for Eddie too at some point, making dating Linda an attempt to get over not just Iris, but Eddie too, which Linda figures out very quickly at the bowling double date.
Linda - Hey, Iris, I'm gonna break up with Barry because you and your boyfriend are pretty clearly in love with him and it's reciprocated. Iris - O_O what???
Now Joe would be against telling Eddie that Barry's the Flash, but I think with Iris encouraging Barry to do so and Barry liking Eddie so much, that it would eventually happen. Though when it happens determines whether Eddie is upset over having secrets kept from him.
Earliest point would probably be when Eddie steps in to save Barry from Mick & Len using one of the shields Cisco made. Barry realizes that Eddie doesn't hate the Flash after all and might be willing to hear Barry out over the Rainbow Raider debacle and comes clean. Eddie probably still wouldn't be thrilled to have had this secret kept from him for the last few months but he'd understand that Barry didn't know him until the last few months so building up that trust had to take some time first.
Later it goes, however, more likely that Eddie needs an episode or two to get over the betrayed feeling and maybe it becomes a sore spot that Eobard can hammer at later on.
Eobard probably would be of two minds about looping Iris in. It's annoying because Barry is more likely to argue against EoWells when they disagree with Iris supporting him. But Iris is dating his ancestor while not also being his ancestor, so Eobard is eager for ways to break that couple up before wedding bells destroy his very existence. And then Barry catches feelings for Eddie too and Eobard is just kinda going 'well fuck' and whining to Gideon about 'why does everyone like my useless ancestor anyway???'
(Gideon - maybe it's because he's not a dick like you are? Eobard - What was that? Gideon - Nothing.)
Eddie getting a secondary exposure to dark energy during the Flash vs Reverse Flash fight triggers his Cobalt Blue powers. So while shooting himself doesn't kill him (healing powers, though he still needs the bullet removed later, Caitlin muttering rude words while the blue flames keep trying to heal Eddie mid-surgery, this is a pain in the butt) it does alter Eddie's future significantly enough that there's no chance of Eobard's specific ancestral line happening anymore. So Eobard still paradoxes out of existence right before Eddie spontaneously heals via flame.
Anyway, this is obviously endgame westhallen because I cannot resist throwing in a westhallen agenda here.

For the headcanons, how about an AU where Julian is there from s1, employed by CCPD after their other CSI got struck by lightning and comatosed for 9 months and definitely wasn't coming in to do his job
Ooooh, I like this idea a lot. :D They really did need another CSI. I mean, presumably there are others, I dunno what was up with the backlog at the start of S4 other than maybe David Singh screwing with Barry a little bit (it was funny), but there have gotta be more CSIs stationed off site. Presumably though they've always got at least one on site CSI who can explain stuff to detectives or lawyers while still keeping up with their own work.
So I think here Julian would not have changed his last name. So he's still Julian Desmond and not Julian Albert. (He did change his name in the show, though it's not clear how much of that is to distance himself from the snafu at the dig site in India and how much was to distance himself from his family after his sister's death.)
In turn, his sister is alive here and so while his relationship with his parents is troubled, he's not estranged from them.
If Julian was already employed by the city and just picked to take over as the on site CSI in Barry's absence, then he'd be a meta in S1. I think it'd make an interesting storyline to have him be kind of a jerk about metas as he was in S3, but then really explore what it means for him to find out that he's a 'dangerous meta' too. He wouldn't be a bad guy, just kind of a low level antagonist who peaks when his powers emerge, but winds up an ally of Team Flash when they help him get his powers under control.
Julian and Barry would absolutely have friction at first. Barry doesn't like how his lab has changed while he was away and expects that Julian will go back to the offsite labs now that he's back. Julian isn't about to let go of the on site lab, he likes it there and it's his now. They eventually work things out, but it takes a while.
Comics Albert Desmond had dissociative identity disorder which is where his iteration of Alchemy came from, but neither the comics nor the show treated that disorder well so I'd want to leave that out for Julian, but he could still have powers similar to what the philosopher's stone gave him. Specifically the 'transmutation' that allowed him to trigger potential metas to gain powers caterpillar style. So maybe his powers activating accidentally creates the main antagonist of an episode at least once and he, rather understandably, freaks out over it.
Eobard would absolutely be fascinated by Julian's powers. If he can create metas, could he also take away meta powers too? EoWells wants to know the answer.
I think Julian wouldn't be main Team Flash. He helps out where he can, but he doesn't have to be a genius of all trades to give him something to do every episode the way S3 decided to go. He'd be ideal for giving Barry alibis when he has to run off during work hours to be the Flash.
No Julian/Caitlin. I wasn't interested in it when the ship was danced around during S3, so I wouldn't want to see it happen in an alt S1. Besides, Caitlin is pretty tied up in the Ronnie Lives/FIRESTORM plotline, so she still has her fiance around and wouldn't be interested in a complication anyway.

for the AU 5+ headcanons ask game, Cisco takes a leap of faith and tells Barry he's in love with him somewhere in the middle or second half of season 1. i hope it's a prompt that works for you?
I do love a good Barrisco headcanon. This'll be cute. ^_^
So Cisco tags along to karaoke night with Barry and Caitlin and instead of Linda showing up to hit on Barry, Cisco takes the opportunity while Caitlin is singing to tell Barry how he feels. And Barry is surprised - not necessary blind sided, but he's definitely having a 're-evaluating events' moment. Caitlin calls them up to sing with her before Barry can really respond. So Cisco just kinda assumes that they're gonna leave things as friends and be a little awkward about it at first.
However, Barry is aware that being left hanging sucks and so as soon as they've squared away drunken Caitlin on Cisco's couch for the night, he asks Cisco on a date. And apologizes for not responding earlier. He was surprised and taking care of their drunk friend was kinda the priority, but he likes Cisco a lot and the idea of going on a date with Cisco is giving him all the butterflies, so... Cisco cuts him off with a chaste kiss before Barry can get too into rambling mode and agrees to the date.
Their first date they start off both trying a bit too hard because they're nervous but once they realize that's why things are a bit stilted, they both laugh and unwind and it's a wonderful date.
Barry realizes that something is up with Cisco with regards to Hartley and it's more than just Hartley being a jerk to Cisco in the past. So Cisco loops Barry into the whole thing about Ronnie maybe being alive and how guilty Cisco feels about being the one who closed Ronnie into the pipeline in the first place. So Barry gets to be a supportive BF both in helping Cisco deal with his survivor's guilt and with getting info out of Hartley regarding what really happened to Ronnie the night the accelerator exploded. Hartley still winds up escaping somehow but Cisco doesn't have to bear that weight alone this time.
I think Barry would turn down the bowling double date here, citing that it's still early in his relationship with Cisco and he wants their date that evening to be just the two of them. Since Cisco is well aware of Barry's feelings for Iris, Barry wants to make sure Cisco feels secure in their relationship before doing any double dates with Iris.
During the day that wasn't, Barry and Iris do not kiss (hate that kiss anyway, any reason to throw it out) but Barry does call Cisco for help with the oncoming storm problem that's poised to decimate both Central City and Keystone. Only EoWells answers Cisco's phone because, um... Cisco cannot come to the phone right now. Barry doesn't think hard on it at the time because DANGER ahead is more pressing. But after resetting time it definitely sticks out to him as strange.
Lisa does not manage to honey trap Cisco because Cisco is flattered, but not interested and this is his boyfriend right here, isn't he so cute? Which means that the Snarts + Rory go with plan b which is kidnapping both Cisco and Barry. Cisco stalls for time until they're down to just Mick watching them and when Mick isn't paying attention Barry knocks him out and rescues Cisco and Dante. Dante comes out of the ordeal shaken but otherwise unscathed and impressed with his brother's courage. It's the first step towards mending their relationship and moving them more towards being the close & supportive brothers Cisco and Dante are in the comics.
Somehow Len does figure out Barry's identity from this (hidden camera?) and thus Barry does still have to make his deal with Len. But Len's outta luck if he wants Cisco to build him new guns. Good thing Len made blueprints off the original guns in case he had to make new ones the hard way. (Barry - that is not in any way a good thing >_<)
The experience is still traumatic enough for Cisco that it triggers his nightmares/early manifestation of his vibes of the timeline where he died. Good thing Barry is there in bed with Cisco to hold him after startling awake from that. Barry soothes Cisco back to being calm and listens to Cisco talk about the nightmare afterwards and while he doesn't know what to make of Cisco's subconscious associating Dr. Wells with the Reverse Flash, he does know that the idea of losing Cisco terrifies him. And, huh, for some reason he's reminded of how weird it was for Dr. Wells to answer Cisco's phone in the day that wasn't...
Being with Cisco mellows out Barry's 'don't tell Iris' reflex so when Eddie finds out about Barry being the Flash and wants to tell Iris the truth, Barry agrees over Joe's protests, noting that keeping her in the dark hasn't actually protected Iris the way Joe insisted it would. So the whole situation actually makes Iris & Eddie closer instead of causing the relationship drama from canon.
Finding out that Cisco's nightmare actually happened for real? Infuriates Barry. Cisco has to talk Barry down from going after Wells immediately, but Barry is just done with Wells taking away the people he loves. Killing his mom, framing his father, and now killing Cisco in another timeline? Which might also be when Barry realizes that he's fallen in love with Cisco and doesn't want to be without him.
The Iris West-Allen newspaper byline is explained by Gideon to be from the OG timeline, but it still shakes Cisco, who doesn't quite realize Barry is relieved that's not from this timeline. Eddie questions his decision to propose to Iris afterwards, but Barry pushes him to go forward regardless of what Joe might think. That timeline is gone and they should focus on living their lives for themselves, not live up to the destinies of people who lived entirely different lives from them.
Eobard still tries to break up Iris and Eddie while he has Eddie kidnapped, but Gideon nonchalantly updates the by line to West-Thawne and Eobard takes the psychic damage instead.
Eobard tries dangling the whole 'save your mother, reset to the real timeline' carrot in front of Barry but Barry talks things over with his dad and admits he doesn't want to give up the life he's building with Cisco for the life he could have had with Iris, but he wants to save his mom so much... Henry is able to talk Barry out of the time travel this time.
Cisco is of course very surprised when Barry comes back from Iron Heights and puts an end to any time ship building. They're not helping Eobard Thawne in any way. They wind up talking through everything and Barry tells Cisco he loves him.
Cisco - *heart eyes* I love you too, Barry.
Eobard escapes and tries to force Barry to cooperate anyway, but Cisco uses his vibe blasts instinctively to protect Barry. Eobard swears he'll be back, but he's concerned about risking Cisco accidentally severing him from his speed entirely - made easier by Eobard's speed still being so unstable - so he hoofs it out of town, faking his death in the process. The Harrison Wells identity is well and truly burned, so he might as well give Barry something he wants. That way it'll hurt all the more the next time Eobard takes something - someone - away from him.
Thus Ronnie and Eddie survive the S1 finale, but there's a lead in for a Rogues centered S2 with Snart getting the gang together - not just the metas from the pipeline that he rescues from Team Flash, but Hartley as well - pushing the Earth-2/Zoom story line to Season 3.

Hey if you're still taking AU headcanons what about an AU where Cisco gets his powers right away? Like while Barry's still in the coma maybe? Loving these posts!
Hehehe, I actually have an unfinished series exactly about this type of AU. Visions While I Sleep - it's a series I want to get back to sometime this year, so fingers crossed that I actually will.
So in Visions While I Sleep, Cisco starts to get vibes slowly - voices first then full on visions - and he winds up learning about how Hartley was actually fired and saves Hartley from a fatal accident. The two of them team up to figure out wth is up with Harrison Wells and his obsession with Barry Allen + prove criminal negligence with the accelerator (which could open him up to manslaughter charges I'd bet).
If I were to another take on a 'Cisco gains powers before Barry Wakes' fic, I'd probably have a different aspect of his powers surface first.
Cisco's vibe blasts kick in when Farooq shows up waaaay earlier than canon. Cisco vs Farooq doesn't go well at first, but round two Cisco manages to use his powers to set off the fire suppression system, causing Farooq's powers to kinda implode on him.
Cisco and EoWells and Caitlin come up with a way to suppress Farooq's powers and EoWells, in a sign of 'good faith' chooses not to press charges. Farooq still hates Harrison Wells, but he's convinced that Wells - and Cisco and Caitlin - are all trying to make up for what they've done.
Afterwards Cisco starts learning to use his powers in earnest. He gets excited about the idea of being a super hero and comes up with the Vibe suit V1. Caitlin and EoWells are... less enthused but still fascinated with helping him learn to use his powers.
It makes sense that there were metas causing problems before Barry woke up, so Cisco gets to encounter some of those. Not everyone who got powers was a criminal or resorted to crime because of their powers, so I'd want to see Cisco dealing with more of that. Helping people with powers get their abilities under control. Sometimes the antagonist is just someone having a bad day who doesn't want to cause trouble but can't seem to stop.
Of course sometimes the antagonist is a criminal and Cisco fights them, much to Caitlin's dismay. in order to make sure they can put away metas legally and safely, Cisco and EoWells expand what they created for Farooq into a universal suppressant device. EoWells isn't happy about this, no doubt. But in canon I think it was actually Joe who instigated the idea of the pipeline prison, so here without Joe involved I think Cisco's instinct would be to do things legally, whereas in canon he's got two authority figures saying illegal incarceration is fine so he just kinda goes with it. So while EoWells would like the chance to study metas more closely and advises that making metas more well known is a bad idea, Cisco points out that the cat is out of the bag here. Trying to shove it back in will only make things worse.
By the time Barry wakes up, Vibe is well established as a hero, so he's excited when it turns out Barry has powers and wants to use his abilities to help too. The Flash becomes Vibe's side kick. Barry still establishes himself by taking down Clyde Mardon, but thanks to Cisco Clyde is captured alive instead of shot. Though Joe still finds out about Barry & Cisco's powers and has Barry promise to hide things from Iris.
Because Cisco's got his powers, he doesn't make the Cold/Heat guns. So when Len shows up and gets interested in the city's new heroes, he designs the Cold Gun himself - like he does in the comics. He also makes the Heat Gun for Mick later on and the Gold Gun for Lisa (girl deserves her glitter ^_^ )
i think Hartley would pop up a lot sooner. Not only is Harrison Wells not paying for his sins, but Hartley's replacement is a super hero now? He'd thus be entirely Cisco's enemy at first instead of splitting time between Cisco and Barry. But I think Hartley would manage to plant doubt in Cisco about Wells too.
Cisco's visions would eventually show up too, maybe similar to how they did in canon? With his inter-dimensional and intra-dimensional breach abilities being held off on until S2.

I am already intrigued by Hartley/Barry/Cisco with the same shitty ex (Eobard) mention
So I'll have to take my time to workshop this some, but the event isn't until July 14th so I've got plenty of time to shine this idea up. But.
AU-land here, where Professor Thawne works at CCU. Or did. He's being fired after a grad student - Barry - came forward to admit that he'd been taken advantage of by the Professor and now lots of current and former students are coming out of woodwork because Thawne threatened their grades if they didn't sleep with them or etcetera.
There'd be some establishing flashbacks as they all had very different experiences with Eobard. He wooed Hartley then stole his research and ruined Hartley's relationship with his parents by outing him to them. While he was in the screwing Hartley over stage of things, he took up with Cisco who was able to get out of the relationship before things went sour and was only really aware in retrospect that it was a very toxic and power imbalanced relationship for him and that Eobard probably pitted him against Hartley deliberately so as to prevent them from realizing how he was using them. Barry was not directly one of Eobard's students but quickly realized he was being used for a.) his research and b.) as revenge on his parents for his mom snubbing Eobard when they were much younger... well...
So they all meet on campus, Barry's worried that this could affect the PhD he's about to finish up, Hartley and Cisco are reluctantly apologizing to each other and admitting they've got more in common with each other than they realized... and both vowing to make sure that Barry gets his degree since he was the first one out of so many who was brave enough to speak out about what was going on. And the three of them wind up at the campus coffee house just talking until a ridiculous hour of the morning when one of them jokes about this being what a nice first date really ought to be like. And...
They're like... why not? Why not have this be their first date? Why not go on more dates, to see if they work as a trio.
Fast forward to Eobard catching sight of them a year later and realizing they're on a date. His three most hated exes. And they're just kind of like 'ah, thanks, if you hadn't been a shitty, toxic influence on our lives then we never would have found such a healthy relationship with each other afterwards.'
Eobard - *life ruined, steaming with rage, blaming these three in particular for rallying the rest and Barry especially for being the first domino*
Hartley/Barry/Cisco - *too busy being happy together to give Eobard the time of day*
Admittedly, there's room for a canon AU in there too as an alternative take on the prompt. But I feel like a non-canon AU gives more breathing space for having Eobard date and break up with all three of them separately before they all meet up with the intention of destroying his reputation beyond repair.
I'm eying several other prompts on there going oh this one's a good Westhallen prompt (Love triangle? No!) or thinking how I've never written Len/Mick/Sara before but the criminal 4 criminal 4 criminal one could be fun for them, there are several I'm kinda going 'hmmmm, Barrisco???'... and I haven't done Oliver/Felicity/Dig since Telephone, but the friend group goes through trauma prompt does seem very them...
So I'll see what I write between now and July and maybe I'll hit a few of these. :D

role reversal AU with Barry and Iris? :)
So I've written a couple of these before - and I no doubt will again. [I Know (Do You?) and Hurry Up (To Slow Down)] I do enjoy a good role reversal for these two. :D
So in a role reversal specifically from Iris' point of view, I think she'd initially promise not to tell Barry when Joe asks, but quickly realize from Barry's interest in metahumans and the Flash that keeping him in the dark is pretty cruel. Instead of trying to gaslight him about it or talk him out of investigating, Iris would come clean. Forewarned is forearmed and Iris wants him to be safe about things.
Depending on how long it takes for Iris to tell him, Barry may or may not be upset about it. But if he's upset? He gets over it pretty fast. Iris has always been amazing and his hero and so he's so proud of her for being everyone's hero now.
Eobard is not thrilled. In retrospect he realizes that it isn't that surprising that Iris West had the right genes to become a speedster considering Wally West is destined to become a speedster. Or was destined. What does Eobard know. Maybe Linda Park will become a speedster. *he's waving hands wildly while Gideon wonders if she can get smoke to come out of his ears if she says yes*
since Iris was still in college getting her Masters degree at the time, there would be focus on her trying to maintain her GPA while juggling Flash duties and frustration with EoWells perhaps not respecting her class time, maybe her pointing out that she's not exactly getting paid for her Flash work inspires him to create an internship for her so that she does get paid and can't complain about that anymore.
Because, honestly, Iris doesn't have the Jitters job anymore. it's not her fault she couldn't work while in a coma but what are the odds a part time barista job would get held open for her that long?
There's so many ways things could play out relationship wise. I've done both the Westallen and Westhallen routes, but why not some Barriscowest? Or Snowestallen? Snowest & barrisco? Thallen and Newsvibe (is that what Iris/Cisco is called? that's what I'm going with) There are a lot of possibilities and I do enjoy so many different ships.
Iris and the pipeline... I don't know where she'd stand on that. I'd like to think she'd be against it and so that's the track I'd take writing another one of these AUs, because Iris is the voice of reason. But canon probably would have put her on the pro pipeline train if she hadn't been sidelined like she was. :/
I think Iris would probably try harder to talk things out with the metas. Not always a good idea, but she's much more likely to try to de-escalate a situation than Barry is. So she'd probably be able to talk Shawna down, but trying to empathize with Hartley would likely end with him taking advantage of her sympathy. Though she'd also be less sympathetic towards Snart since, unlike Barry, she doesn't really have the experiences Barry has that made him empathize with Len.
Iris would be tempted to go back in time to save Nora because she loves Barry and she wants him to have his mother. Whether or not she actually does it depends on how her conversation with Henry goes. He was not in favor of changing the timeline to save Nora even though he no doubt wanted her to have a chance to live, so he might be able to talk Iris out of it if he can articulate his feelings on the subject well enough.
a lot of this has focused on Iris, but I think Barry would settle well into back up. He'd probably still get a chance to be a battle couple with her similar to the incident with Tony in canon. Maybe the return of Becky Cooper turns out to be a bad thing when she turns out to be a powered stalker with a crush on Barry?
Barry's also got a pretty close friendship with Cisco and Caitlin already by the time Iris wakes up, which I think would factor into Iris ultimately deciding to tell him pretty quickly. Keeping the secret would not only be potentially putting Barry in danger but damaging his new friendships and Iris wouldn't want to do that to him.

Now imagine Hartley getting ratsurrected, Selina Kyle-style... (Eowells pushed him out of the window? I don't know thh, just the visuals without any specific idea what exactly happened)
So I'm definitely gonna have to write a full fic for this at some point, but...
Hartley's always had a connection with rats. Since he was a kid and bonded with his third grade class' pet rat and won the right to keep that rat when the school year ended. He's always been kind to the rats on the streets, leaving them cheese or other safe things to eat and whatever soft bedding he could find when he'd happen upon a nest. They weren't bad creatures, they just... were misunderstood.
He gets the whole being misunderstood thing quite well.
When Hartley discovers the flaws in the accelerator, he documents and brings them to Harrison Wells attention. Harrison's response to the initial email is to request an after house meeting and it's not exactly unusual, especially when Hartley's brought this to Harrison's attention so late in the day.
Harrison has them go outside on one of the little terraces set up on the roof 'because if he's going to have such bad news then he needs the aesthetic' or some such nonsense. Hartley's preoccupied with explaining what he's found - of course he hasn't told anyone else, Harrison, don't be ridiculous - and so it comes as a great surprise to him when his most trusted friend and employer neatly shoves him off the roof of his place of employment.
Hartley lands hard, next to the dumpster, and Eobard can see from the top of the building that Hartley's definitely dead. To far of a fall and his neck is at a bad angle. Relieved that's taken care of, Eobard goes down to the security station, wipes the entire building's cameras for three hours backward and deactivates them - all using a brute force hack so it can't be traced back to him - wipes down any prints that might look incriminating and even a bunch that wouldn't just to make it look like someone who obviously didn't belong at STAR Labs killed Hartley and took files from Hartley's office and left.
And then Harrison leaves, heading straight home. And because he never checks on Hartley's body, he never learns what happened to Hartley next.
The Ratsurrection. (I love that so much, that's what Hartley thinks of it in his head.)
Cats, of course, have nine lives. So they have life to spare. Bringing a human back to life is much simpler for them. Still difficult which is why they so rarely do it, even when they do truly like the deceased human in question, but still. Human lives are big compared to rat lives or cat lives - not necessarily fuller, for a rat could live more in their very short lives than some humans did in eighty - but Hartley's kindness had saved the lives of so, so many rats over the years. Rats that survived winters in bedding made warm with the soft scraps Hartley gave them. Rats who didn't starve because of the food he shared. Babies that lived in relative safety because Hartley chose to be kind to such small and often reviled creatures.
There wasn't a single rat in the city who hadn't at least heard of Hartley, the human with the kind heart. And so as the evening passed into true night, rat after rat came scurrying to the dumpsters of STAR Labs to return to Hartley the kindness he had given them. And, little by little, the life taken from Hartley Rathaway was restored.
When he woke up, Hartley was surrounded by the rats and... somehow he knew. Somehow he just... he knew what they'd all done for him. No one had ever cared so much about him as these little rats had and he knew they'd changed him. Permanently. This kind of thing - this ratsurrection - wasn't something he got for free.
But still, he couldn't just stay in the alleyway hair matted from blood, looking like death warmed over. So he invited the most at risk of the rats to join him in his car, and took them home with him. His pet rats were freed from their cage - Hartley could make them understand now where was and wasn't safe to go in the apartment - and then set out plenty of food for his now much larger rat-family. He got something for himself too - a lot more cheese heavy than he'd normally pick - and considered what to do.
Harrison had murdered him. That couldn't be allowed to stand.
Hartley considers his options carefully. And decides to risk going into work the next morning to see what Harrison had done after he left to cover things up.
He arrives at his usual time - a little earlier, actually, but not so early as to be odd for him - and discovers the police already there investigating the 'break in' that led to several hours of internal security footage and data, including badge usage, to be lost. Hartley manages to avoid the worst of the hubub and goes to check his office. He finds a number of files missing - not just from the projects he managed, but also everything he'd compiled on the accelerator's flaws. He logs into his work computer to find every email concerning the accelerator's flaws to be missing too. And the plan he'd formulated in the early hours of the morning, surrounded by the rats who cared for him so much... crystalized.
He heads out of his office and down the hall where he interrupts Harrison talking to the police about finding out who hadn't shown up in the morning.
Now Eobard's already been a bit disturbed that morning to find that not only was Hartley's body not by the dumpsters that morning, but there was no trace of any corpse. Nothing. Not even blood. Like it had been cleaned away. (And it had, by the rats, at Hartley's request.) So when he sees Hartley standing in the doorway to his office, he can't help the way he reacts.
"Hartley, what are you doing here?"
"I think I know what the break in was about," Hartley replies calmly, and then adds, "are you okay Harrison? You look about as bad as I felt yesterday."
"You... I thought you'd stayed late last night," Eobard manages to say.
But Hartley shakes his head. "No, I had a migraine remember? Felt like my head was splitting right open. I barely managed to make it to my usual time to clock out, I'd have never lasted past six. Really... are you sure you're okay? You look like you've seen a ghost."
Of course Dt. Joe West wants to know what Hartley discovered and so Hartley says that while he's not sure how much is missing, some of his project files are gone and his personal notes on the accelerator. His personal notes could have been misplaced, he supposed, but the project files never left his office for any reason. So he's fairly sure they've all been stolen.
Hartley's office thus becomes a crime scene and Eobard wonders if he's finally lost it. So close to his goal and this is what breaks him?
Of course any evidence of Hartley staying late is gone because Eobard over-erased the cameras so he can't say that Hartley didn't leave early, that he didn't just... imagine shoving Hartley off the building, even though his cover up afterward was clearly real. It just doesn't make any sense.
Eobard never had this problem when he could do the vibrating-hand-of-death maneuver.
Meanwhile Hartley is having a blast. He's lost that obsession he used to have with being perfect and has become noticeably a bit scruffier looking. Nothing bad - it's a good look on him - but it's weird. Especially with him being nicer to people. Like Cisco and Caitlin. Ronnie floats the idea that Hartley's unwound because of that cute CSI he spent the day flirting with and apparently scored a date with. Allan something?
And while Hartley is now casually dating Barry Allen - unknowingly contributing to the ways he's now making Harrison Wells' life hell - he's also setting up an abandoned warehouse as a sort of safe haven/paradise for rats who want to live somewhere nicer and safer than the streets and working on his new alter ego, the Pied Piper. He really just doesn't care anymore about the social expectations about not doing good deeds that are technically illegal. So as the Pied Piper, why not do those things anyway? All while having told the police - and Barry - about how his personal notes held information about some odd power fluctuations in the accelerator he'd been investigating.
He lets them think he was further back in the actual investigation than he was and how of course he doesn't know why anyone would want those. Odds were he was just on the trail of bad wiring, worst case scenario is likely that he was on the trail of something that might set back the accelerator a few days. It couldn't possibly be anything serious and of course he'll keep the detectives apprised of his progress on re-investigating the accelerator. He even enlists Cisco, Ronnie, and a few others to make the investigation go faster.
Harrison is politely encouraged to keep his nose out of it, Hartley making it sound like there was a wild theory that the break in was staged by Harrison to keep any flaws in the accelerator from being found. Which was surely a ridiculous idea, but better safe than sorry when it came to safeguarding their beloved employer's reputation.
Planting the seeds of doubt - both in Hartley's fellow employees and the CCPD investigators - in Harrison Wells' innocence when (Eobard utterly helpless to stop the flood now) it turns out there is a big flaw in the accelerator and it's not a few days worth of delay. It's a 'rip it all out and start over' kind of delay.
Eobard continues trying to salvage the situation, but it's rapidly spun out of control. And he still has no idea if he actually murdered Hartley or not. If he murdered Hartley then who the fuck has been walking around in Hartley's dead body??? All while romancing Eobard's personal nemesis!!! In fact, Eobard is so distracted by his jealousy over Hartley dating Barry Allen (utterly seething with rage and how dare the traces of that leaking out cause Hartley - or not!Hartley - to just smile a little wider every time???) that he doesn't see the arrest coming until he's being marched out of STAR Labs in hand cuffs. It's not a murder charge and Eobard's lawyers are confident they'll beat it, but... his reputation is going to suffer.
Meanwhile Hartley? Hartley's getting lauded as a local hero... both as the guy who discovered STAR Lab's fatal flaws and as the Pied Piper who was improving the lives of both Central City's rat population and Central City's homeless human population. Admittedly, the latter identity was also wanted for questioning by the police, but Hartley just... doesn't care about that.
He cares about lives. About improving lives and saving lives and showing his gratitude to those who cared about his life in particular. And about trying every single cheese in the world. If he gets the chance.

For the AU headcanon game, AU in which Savitar is someone other than Barry? 👀
So I do remember various theories about Savitar's identity and one of them was Eddie. Which... I did not like that theory, so I'm not gonna go that way.
If it was someone the team knew already, then Eobard is the obvious candidate. In the comics, he's made himself look like Barry a few different ways and so there could be a convoluted plot going on that way, but... they've had enough Eobard Thawne as the bad guy on the show, I wanna speculate on someone new.
So the comics Savitar - New Earth version - was a Cold War pilot whose real identity was never discovered. While at top speed in his fighter plane, he was struck by lightning and survived the crash in hostile territory. This could be updated to him being an air force test pilot for an experimental craft using Dominator tech - foreshadowing the Dominator attack xover event later that season - that gets struck by lightning mid test. The test is classed a failure and the craft is unrecoverable - the man who becomes Savitar is assumed dead but of course he isn't.
Savitar therefor isn't obsessed with killing Iris - his existence doesn't depend on her. Instead perhaps Iris' investigation into Savitar's origins puts her in danger as he doesn't want anyone to know who he used to be - maybe he doesn't even remember and having his identity revealed would detract from the story he's selling the cult he's been creating.
Perhaps Alchemy as a stage one/first half of season boss with Savitar being hinted at until he's revealed at the mid season finale. Savitar could still be the man behind Alchemy, with Julian being unaware that he's been brainwashed to take on the persona of Alchemy under specific triggers. To de brainwash Julian, they bring in Hartley who - in this timeline - used a hypnotic flute in addition to his gloves. Julian thus has to come to terms both with what he did under the brainwashing and with the fact that he is a meta... that it was his rejection and self-hatred over being a meta that gave Savitar the in he needed to control Julian in the first place.
Part of the season's focus is on Barry having to accept that he has no idea how much the changes to the timeline are his fault and how much is stuff that was already gonna happen and he just... didn't know things were leading that way behind the scenes.
Revealing Frost's real origins in this season. Caitlin, panicking, goes to her mom for help and things with Carla eventually unravel to the reveal of Icicle. Frost has to choose between teaming up with Icicle or siding with Caitlin's friends... and chooses Icicle. Only to quickly realize she's in over her head and she turns to Caitlin for advice. The two of them form a truce to defeat Icicle and rejoin Team Flash by surprise!!! during the final Savitar vs Flash fight at the end of the season, which would also include Jesse and Wally as well as Savitar's cult.
Savitar would definitely try to recruit Icicle and Frost into his cult, but I don't see them having any of it. Icicle has his own god complex of a sort going on and Killer Frost just doesn't like him or trust him after Caitlin's experiences with Zoom and the Reverse Flash. If you've met one evil Speedster, you've met them all.
One of the things I did like about show!Savitar was that he was a fallen hero - I'm a Tales game series fan, i love fallen heroes as villains, that's basically the main villain of every Tales game and I eat it up every time. So I think part of the investigation into Savitar would be the reveal that he was a highly decorated hero and he saved a lot of lives. That's why he was tapped for the project. But after being essentially left for dead and his amnesia, Savitar grew to feel he was owed the accolades and devotion and it all warped into the god complex he has now. Forcing him to face his past isn't exactly a tomato in the mirror moment but he's torn between horror over who he's become and his desire for security and safety through the power he's accumulated.

Iris/Cisco is Irisco, but I don't think anyone's gonna stop you from calling it Newsvibe if you feel like it. (Though it makes me personally think Cisco/Gideon. Because of the article she always shows to Eobard. But since the article is written by Iris it still kinda-sorta works as Iris/Cisco/Gideon, I guess...)
Ah, Irisco does sound familiar. So I probably have seen it before, I just couldn't remember. But I like Newsvibe better so I'm sticking with it. :D
Though, I suppose Newsvibe works for Gideon/Cisco and Linda/Cisco too since, as you said, Gideon is associated with news from the future and Linda - like Iris - is a journalist and thus a news reporter.
... is Linda/Cisco even a ship? Now I have to find out. :D
