im having a stroke trying to understand marvel comics
like after Agent of Asgard there's a bunch of stuff I missed? I just got a few issues of Loki (2023-present) and I'm reading the stuff inbetween too. Like in Thor #24 (2020) there's a part directly after AoA. But then he goes to Defenders? Which is why he's not the same as Loki (2019).
Reddit says that Loki (2019) and Loki from Agent of Asgard-Defenders: Beyond aren't the same??? LIKE WHAT IS GOING ON. The whole universe reset thing from Secret Invasion (2015 i think) is confusing me bruh (which i also haven't read and im not gonna)

Hey there, Happy New Year! Sorry if this ask seems confusing.
I've really come to enjoy your blog as someone who is kind of new to navigating the world of comics and how to read them and you seem to be one of the people that's more vocal about all the fanon and canon differences and how that damages people's perception of characters. I'm just a bit confused in what you consider to be the difference of headcanons and fanon, I know fanon is a more of something that a big number of people believe, but if someone headcanons something that isn't covered in canon, would that be "bad" or fall on the fandom category?
Hope this doesn't sound mean or anything, I'm just a bit confused
hello!! welcome to batburger!!!!
wrt fanon vs canon my issue is this — parts of comic fandom are very vocal about not engaging with the source material. deciding what fanon is “good” vs “bad” isn’t the point because im not interested in policing peoples fandom experience. however there is a point where i don’t understand what exactly some people are fans of, because what they talk about is so disconnected from the original text.
imagine meeting a hunger games fan, and when u ask about their favourite movie or book, they instead tell u that they’ve never read or seen any part of the series, exclusively read fanfiction, and then inform u that they believe president snow is peeta’s grandfather and that actually haymitch was the authoritarian mastermind behind the hunger games. that doesn’t make any sense, and has no basis in canon. it’s a very extreme hypothetical, but i wouldn’t really take what they say about the hunger games seriously. it also reminds me a bit of the hp marauders fanworks that exist almost autonomously to the books (while still containing the same issues as said books).
most fanon enjoyers (and this is particularly pervasive with batfam fans) enjoy characters and relationships that simply do not exist. that alone isn’t a problem (crackships and headcanons have existed since ye olde star trek zine days) but the issue is that these fanon interpretations are loudly asserted as being the correct way to engage with the characters. i do not believe it should be controversial to prefer characters in their canonical text, or to ask why some fanon content is taken as gospel, especially when so much of it is racialised.
this lends into a wider trend where these headcanons are respected more than canon despite often being actively reductive, accidentally demeaning, or just plain bad faith interpretations. it’s much harder to combat the racism present in conversations about damian wayne when the people in question aren’t grant morrison or judd winick or scott snyder, but instead a nebulous group of people on twitter.
flatly, i encourage people to read the source material. there are a lot of comics, but googling ‘[literally any character] reading list’ has literally never been easier. start by consuming the movies or cartoons or films or shows or the one volume graphic novels, then pinpoint what u like and start from there. people are discouraged from reading comics — and they shouldn’t be!! especially for popular characters there are very accessible starting points!! u will find characters to love with rich history and lore!!!! support queer artists and artists of colour who are actively changing the industry!!! i guarantee that the fanon version of that male character u love is actually originally from a female character with a great miniseries written by greg rucka!!!!

domestic ingo fic because im insane (EVERY INTERACTION IS PLATONIC)
(inspired by a comic from @hoofpeet ^_^)
In Hisui, Ingo had to do many things himself. Cooking and cleaning were a given, because Lady Sneasler was a pokemon and unfortunately lacked opposable thumbs (and also had knife claws.) As a warden, he was to help his noble with every one of her new litters and was to watch them once she was recovered enough from birth to hunt again. He did not mind, finding the routine comforting in an otherwise unpredictable place.
Lady Sneaslers newest litter had brought upon a predicament.
A sneasel had arrived too early, and was much too small. Ingo feared he would have to bury yet another child of Lady Sneaslers, an unfortunate occurrence that was becoming far too frequent for his liking. The tiny sneasel squeaked in his arms, small enough to be held with only one hand. Lady sneaslers other eggs weren't set to hatch for quite some time yet, so he focused his attention on the kit. She was a girl, feather so small that it was nearly nonexistent.
By the time Lady Sneaslers other kits were hatched, the tiny sneasel (affectionately dubbed little lady) had grown much stronger.
The only issue was that she refused to see Lady Sneasler as her mother, opting instead to follow Ingo wherever he went, strutting behind him like a ducklett and constantly pleading to be held. Eventually, he crafted a small sling from a soft blanket he had sewn.
Nobody batted an eye when he appeared in the settlement with a very affectionate sneasel on his chest, swaddled in a makeshift baby sling.
Even when little lady was old enough to leave the den, she refused to, and when Ingo was returned back to Unova she came along.
Ingo quickly fell back into his routines, waking up with the sun to clean his and Emmet's apartment, and making breakfast with little lady still fastened onto his chest.
She purred and swatted at his beard with her poisonous knife claws. He was wholly unaffected.
Emmet however, was not.
"Ingo? What are you doing? It is 6am." Ingo looked back at his brother, who was still rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "Oh, did I wake you? I apologize."
Emmet stared at him.
"Ingo. Why do you have your sneasel in a baby sling."
He looked down. Little lady stared back up at him, and continued to tug at his hair. The menace.
"She does not like being away from me, or on the ground for that matter. I have no idea as to why that is, however." He mumbled, focusing on cracking eggs into a bowl.
"You said you raised her because she hatched early, right? Maybe she thinks you're her mother!"
He stopped.
"What."
Emmet was silent for a total of 3 seconds before doubling over in laughter.
"Did you seriously never notice??"
Ingo did not. Most of his time in Hisui was a blur of disassociation and mild poisoning (before his immunity, that is) so he truly never noticed. It was simply more convenient to carry little lady around, and nobody in the pearl clan even batted an eye.
"I...Was not entirely present for most of my time in Hisui. I guess I just assumed she was simply more affectionate than the other kits." He scrambled the eggs, and lightly batted little ladies hand away from the raw bacon.
Emmet sat down on the floor. "I kinda figured, you kinda had a thousand mile stare in the photos I found." Ingo hummed in response, the smell of bacon filling the apartment as he cooked.
"By the way, Elesa said she's coming over since we're awake. I don't know how she figured that out though."
"Maybe she has telepathy?"
"Verrry unlikely. She probably just has our routine memorized."
Ingo placed the bacon and eggs on a plate, and placed little lady on the floor.
"Snea!"
"You are going to steal more bacon if I keep holding you, little lady."
"Sneas!"
"Do not deny it. You are guilty."
Little lady was in fact guilty, claws not dripping with poison but instead a light sheen of bacon grease.
"Crrriminal." Emmet spoke through a mouthful of egg. "Emmet, it is rude to speak with your mouth full."
Emmet blew a raspberry at Ingo, who pretended to be scandalized.
Little lady started to weakly claw at Ingo's pant leg, whining to be picked up. Ingo sighed, and obliged her. He placed her on his hip, and fried more bacon. Elesa was a notorious bacon fiend.
Speaking of Elesa, she barged (not really) into the apartment.
"BACON SPO- Wait." She cut herself off mid sentence, instead deciding to stare at Ingo.
Ingo who was in the kitchen, little lady placed on his hip as she watched him cook with wonder in her little eyes. His apron, that he most definitely did not own before. She looked at Emmet, a flash of understanding in his eyes as she took in the sight.
"Iggy. You kinda look like a housewife right now."
Ingo nearly dropped the pan of bacon in his hand.
"I- What?" He flushed, confusion etched across his face.
"Elesa is right. You are even holding little lady like how the old timey mothers do."
Ingo turned off the burner. "I. I do not think that is what I'm doing."
"Nah, it totally is. You're very wifey, got the apron and everything!" Elesa teased, before beelining to the bacon.
Ingo shifts little lady in his arms, and she chirrs in displeasure as she is moved against her will. Ingo does not speak, but instead turns around to try to hide his blush. It fails, his red ears giving him away.
"Wait holy shit this bacon is really good, when the hell did you learn to cook?"
"Probably in Hisui. Ingo was verrry bad at cooking before."
"Well, you weren't a very good cook either Emmet."
"Mm, fair. Wait, did you actually learn to cook in Hisui?"
Ingo nods. "It was essential for survival. A fellow warden helped me though, as I was indeed incredibly bad at it when I first arrived. I had kind of attributed it to the memory loss though." Ingo breaks a piece of bacon in half and hands it to his Excadrill, who has also taken to begging him for food. Little lady is a bad influence.
"I'm kinda suprised you didn't get shredded living on a mountain." Elesa says through a mouthful of bacon. "I didn't leave much, to be fair. Most of my duties were easy to accomplish without even having to go down the mountain, but I did develop an immunity to poison."
"What?"
"These sneasels are poison-fighting type. I thought you knew?"
"I am Emmet. I did not do my research."
Little lady steals more bacon off of Ingo's plate, but hands it to him, skewered in a very poisonous claw. He eats it without batting an eye, and scritches under her chin.
"Ingo. Ingy. Iggy. Go-Go. Can you please be my platonic malewife." Elesa pipes up from his other side.
"Um. Why?"
"Bacon."
"No."
Elesa sighs. "Worth a shot."

Fic Update
Update for Ranboo’s Terrible No Good Guide to Freedom: The Long Way Round - Chapter 1 - CowPrintLilies, TheStanleyParableEnjoyer - Generation Loss (Web Series) [Archive of Our Own]
Haha I’m ignoring that i haven’t updated in three months ITS OK BECAUSE IM WRITING NOW AND I WONT BE LONG!! It’s getting done!! Soon to be posted!! Here’s an excerpt from the chapter in progress!!
---
The walk there is uneventful in a physical sense. Security, thank his lucky stars, hadn’t reared its ugly head yet as it so often did. Charlie wasn’t dumb enough to think it never would- he’d become intimately acquainted with its claws way too many times to think like that- but it wasn’t here yet.
Emotionally, the walk there may as well have crushed him with a comically large piano and laughed in his face about it. Because something happened and they aren’t talking about it. Ranboo is the most courageous kid Charlie has ever met and probably ever will. Desperation only gets you so far and if that was all that was keeping Ranboo going they would’ve given up loops ago. Ranboo is one brave fucking kid. They had, for all intents and purposes, had to (whether those people came back or not) kill a lot of people to survive. And they had still gotten back up, gotten back to escaping.
The kid trailing behind Charlie now looked like a few choice words would break them in half. It made something in Charlie’s chest crawl. Something not just happened, something changed. And he is going to fucking kill whoever did it if it’s the last thing he does.
Ranboo trips slightly as the flooring transitions from tile to carpeting.
Charlie doesn’t mention it.
The walk continues like this for the better part of 10 minutes. The odd Employee roamed idly about the floors, and Charlie would lead the way and Ranboo would follow meekly behind- save for whenever they steered Charlie from making a wrong turn. Sue him, he’s new to the whole “keeping his memories thing” and yes he may be a little bit overwhelmed with the whole thing because first of all it makes no logical sense for time to loop around them but then again Showfall Media makes no sense and he’s trying his best to be there for the kid because he gets a horrible familial burning in his collarbone whenever he thinks of what they went through and are still going through-
Ranboo tugs on the back of his shirt before Charlie walks into the side of a cabinet.
-and his internal monologue has become nonsensical rambling. Awesome, real helpful Charlie.
Ranboo is looking at him with the air of a kicked puppy. Or- no, more like the air of someone who just watched someone else shoot a puppy then put it in a meat grinder. Either way Charlie doesn’t like the expression on Ranboo's face. Their eyes don’t belong on someone so young. The poor kid looks like he’s been through the wars. It’s plain trauma. Charlie internally curses Hetch’s name into the dirt, as has slowly become a tradition whenever he thinks particularly hard about the situation.
Charlie takes a moment to mentally slap himself back into the present moment, however shitty the present moment has proven to be, and takes stock of the surroundings. No immediate or imminent danger, save for himself almost giving himself a new bruise with that cabinet. Charlie then mentally slaps himself again because how had he managed to get so lost in his thoughts to not pay attention to where he was going? He knows first hand that this place is dangerous and he just daydreamed instead of looking out for Ranboo? Some good he’s doing.
First note of order is that they successfully reached the Puzzler’s Wardrobe Set which means that he can finally try and lighten the mood.
Ranboo had been standing by Charlie, idly looking over the various assortments of clothes, wigs and miscellaneous items in an attempt to completely ignore the whole situation that had lead them here to begin with and had, like he said in his previous inner monologue: settled a growing rock of worry right in Charlie's chest. Whenever they notice Charlie looking at them they physically straighten up to try and look more put together than they clearly were.
It’s weird. A lot of this situation is weird. Honestly weird is an understatement. Charlie should say something to break the strange silence coating the two of them, and he’s not sure why he can’t. A million words and questions come to mind such as are you ok what happened what did you see how can I make it better, all swirling and twisting together in one mass of fear, worry, anger and care. Everything knots together in his heart and by the time it’s reached his mouth no longer makes any sort of sense. He wants to say a lot of things.
What's wrong?
Who hurt you?
What happened?
How can I help?
Please let me help you.
It will be ok.
But what came out of his mouth instead is-
“Want to dress up?”

Just to come in as the masters degree in China politics girlie and say a lot of this is getting misconstrued and oversimplified. The ‘kpop ban’ in China was very much a thing due to THAAD back in like 2018 and the ensuing trade war etc etc and since that eased off there’s continuing issues due to strict rules on male gender presentation in media (hair dye, piercings, being ‘too feminine’) which naturally excludes most male idols. In regards to the lisa thing I mean. Yeah. She broke the law and if she shared anything abt it on her Weibo it makes sense she got banned. I’d presume angelababy will be back soon enough (celebs in bigger scandals have come back after like 6 months or less) but honestly who knows. Celebs are held to account for what their fans do and how they act on Weibo; their accounts can therefore be terminated if they aren’t sufficiently ‘controlling’ their fans (i.e if Lisa’s fans were distributing images from Lisa’s show on Weibo even if Lisa wasn’t herself). Idk. hope this helps. Feel like the whole ‘irrational comic book villain’ portrayal of China doesn’t rly help build understanding
oh and just to follow up .. national security laws etc Chinese citizens (well and everyone visiting China) very much are held legally liable within China for things done internationally that are illegal in China. So that’s the mechanism here behind why Angelababy is in a bit of a difficult situation.
ohhh thank u for this !! i guess it makes sense technically if she has somehow broken a law, i still think it’s unfair towards her and also it’s unfair as a law imo honestly, but it’s another country i know nothing about so i don’t think i can comment. but then im assuming this could be a temporary ban/termination, for lisa as well…?

The current (recent now) ms marvel mini wasn’t bad by any means but. Nothing happened whatsoever. It was just like “Kamala is in character but she’s not doing anything that develops her as beyond exist as a mutant now I guess. Also Bruno is there he’s the only member of her supporting cast present even though she just died and hasn’t spoken to her teammates about anything but that’s okay you like Bruno right? Miles who? Peter Parker and Emma frost be upon ye”
It makes me worried about her status quo going forward I think she’s going to be treading water for a while because editorial thinks “going to college” and “being a mutant” is enough to carry her entire character for the next five years and they don’t want to do anything radical that might cause any issues for mcu marketability
wait is it done? im like so behind on it because I wasn't having fun reading it. Idk I think that's just how current comics are. They're too scared to mess with the status quo. They don't ever do anything big or exciting because they're contained. I know I blame everything on Minis but like if comics could have whole arcs that weren't rushed then maybe we could have development and fun interesting storylines. And what gets me is Kamala is popular? so why was it just a mini why wasn't it an ongoing? or at least leading to an ongoing? idk the state of comics is getting to me lately

Question; would you ever do the cool trans turtle comics but wit the other iterations? Like 12 but with space heroes or rise with Jupiter Jim? Or is this only for 03? I don’t mind if it is; I was just curious.
no, its very specifically a series based in 2003 both in series and in date. being at an age where more knowledge was starting to be talked about (unlike 1987) but information wasn't as available as it was in 2012 and 2018 (both in culture and in how available the internet was). im kind of using it as the age of using a fan space to figure yourselves out. also because as i've mentioned before, the 03 turtles have a specific vibe about them where they support each other without having language.
thats the thing that connects them to star trek specifically. its a franchise full of queer coding and subtext, even when the language wasnt actually present in the shows. jupiter jim and all the shows the 12 turtles watched aren't real, im not saying they couldnt in universe have content matter relating to identity, but im making this specific series about the way star trek which was a real thing promoted diversity and even without using any terminology at all gave a lot of representation to queer people, even just through coding. while there was always issues behind the scenes, and shows themselves tried to even push further, theres a culture thats surrounded star trek for its entire run that is all about supporting diversity. i mean the very first fan zines were about kirk and spock! thats where so much of fandom has its roots from.
im not that versed in everything, but i can tell you theres a reason the jadzia dax thing hit mikey that hard. is it truly trans representation? no, but at the time? thats the thing that would open their eyes to the possibility! and with a supportive family who knows the material they can figure it out together.

Hiiiiiii, it's the annon that asked for Zatana recs and went feral for your art. 1) thank you for the recs, went and read all of them 2) I think you should be given creative control over all of DC (except the parts Neil Gaiman had a hand in, gotta respect a fellow tumblr resident) 3) do you have this AU written down anywhere/plan to write it down anywhere? I'm really loving the character interactions in your art and I wanna know if there's more
1 - zee rec night was SO much fun i loved going thru everything my inbox sent us 😭 thank u for prompting it all i'm glad you dove into the magician verse as well. here's my chart again to commemorate zee rec night / update everyone on my still-developing magician derangement (as you can see i'm still hard at work in DC's Content Maze)
Tumblr media
2 - i can't be trusted with this because we would end up with the Batman Problem (where everything somehow becomes related to batman eventually) except the center of the spiral is like. power girl
3 - thank you!!! i still have NO IDEA what i'm doing with all of this LMFAO.......... maybe eventually i'll have made enough little comics to string together into a vague chronology 😭
it's just like ... me rolling around in the dirt behind DC offices / ranting and raving in discord / receiving visions from the universe and drawing the bits that catch my attention. i truly don't have a coherent presentation plan here
the only thing i do have is- i made like . an archive blog more or less? basically it just reblogs/organizes my CTDE posts and when I have a random post that i don't feel should go on my artblog i shoot it over there. but it also has a cast page and a premise blurb for each arc hahaha (…i dont think the cast page works on mobile though as a heads up)
idk if i would recommend Following it if you already follow me here since it MAINLY just reblogs my posts so you'd be doubling up. but if you wanna poke around in cast bios and whatnot its on there
the first posts in the chrono tags are semi-placeholders where i might put like. if i ever make something coherent for the AU i'll put links to them in there. more or less . im keeping my possibilities open but i truly... yeah i got nothin just all these visions from beyond

okay sorry hi I know I just sent you an ask about my cat being alive but you’re like,, my favorite internet stranger so I thought you should know. I calmed down a little bit and read your response to my fourteen page ask
IM SO HAPPY I HYPE YOU UP‼️‼️ I love being peoples’ hypeman and you’re like,,, awesome so that’s super cool. don’t rush yourself but if you’re feeling pumped to share I will be your #1 fan. I’m probably gonna finish a little 4+1 thing and post it to my blog as a little grand reveal as snailon if that’s cool :3
ALSO I’m so happy you posted the cat thing on ao3 it was really nice and super well written and thank you for the suggestion! the cat is being washed thoroughly right now and I am on guard duty of the bathroom door. he was (we guess) stuck in the sewage of the construction sight beyond the wooded area behind our house.
SO MORE LOK THOUGHTS
you exactly caught my vibe (again) when you mentioned the insane repression mako and bolin are doing in canon. I honestly think there’s nothing more than elevator music behind bo’s eyes in canon because if the creators allowed anything else it would solely be The Horrors and they needed someone on that godforsaken team to be emotionally available and somewhat happy. and try as he might, mako will always be uncontrollably feral. I know by b4 he just has an all out brawl every morning fighting to get his hair presentable. give up and be the scraggly, strange detective that somehow knows everything that you were always meant to be.
which, for the record, is not to say I like his hair. I want him to grow it out more so he stops looking so fucking dumb with his stupid pointy ass hair (I really really really hate mako’s hair) but I also think it would grow out kind of wavy/curly which. yeah. I will be coming back to this later when I yap about avatar mako btw.
also PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEE write mako absolutely losing his shit he 100% so much deserves that. he cries maybe once yearly and it is scheduled so I think he should get to murder y’know. just a little bit. he’s just a girl (insert sad coquette hamster)
makos hand being fucked up is the Vision. you understand so much. the gloves are so suspicious (the same way the shirt-on-at-the-sauna is in the comics. i see you, you little transmasc) and going off the logic of the last ep that with enough charge/consistency, lightning output can scar/mangle the exit point of the bender so. mako learning to use his bending mostly on his own fucking up and rocking his own shit until zolt shoves someone over to go clean up the rookie cause finding someone new is a pain. of course it’s a patch job (as you mentioned everything for them would be) so I imagine it’s like. pretty mangled. like stuff just slightly out of place, lots of raised skin and discolored patches and generally like uncomfortable to look at. I’d bet (like you said) bolin is really the only one he’d trust to see his hands unless makorrasami became like. a thing.
also if you have any,, fic recs,, I would be very not opposed,,,,,
OKAY OKAY SO AVATAR MAKO THOUGHTS. I’m actually going insane about this au.
so for 1: this idea was mostly a silly little ha-ha but imagine raava gets really fucking confused being in their first ever mixed kid and just. skips right back to air after mako. would that not be the funniest shit ever. like the earth kingdom would already be pressed that their go was a mixed kid who was a criminal firebender for the first bit of his life, but imagine how the FIRE NATION feels having their avatar “skipped over” because mako (again, CRIMINAL FIREBENDER) was technically a fn avatar.
and this keeps happening. more mixed kids. mixed kids out of the cycle ordered pairs become avatar. raava gets fucking lost. everyone loses track of whose element is next and world leaders everywhere are sobbing. mako would be so very pleased with himself. he and the half-avatar water tribe person would be clinking together glasses of alcohol in heaving and watching it all go down.
I was also thinking about this half-avatar playing a role in mako’s journey. They would be roughly fifteen years younger than the gaang, so it would make sense for them to still be alive (since raava could return to aang and still maintain them well enough) during mako’s era. do you think they could take on a mentor or distant relative role for mako? maybe being half-avatar would make them the world’s only dual bender, and they would understand mako’s struggle with wielding more than one element in a way no one else would be able to. bonus points if the styles they maintain are either earth and fire or the ‘opposite’ elements (like air+earth/water+fire—water+fire would be good to use to teach balance and that fire is not only to harm but to nurture, and that water parallels it as not only to nurture but to harm)
and that brings me to my third thought; both avatars followed in series have had a conflict or struggle with their bending. aang had to learn the other three types of bending—his conflict was finding teachers. korra needed to find it in herself to flow with the winds of airbending. but copying korra would be lame. so what’s mako’s conflict?
there’s where my pitch comes in (and kind of the point of the half-avatar); mako figured out how to use air, earth, and water as well as he uses fire (if with less refinement) within maybe a week (if that) of being discovered as the avatar. he’s a scraggly street kid used to clawing at what he can get and holding on tight: being discovered means he doesn’t have a particular reason not to make use of the other elements if need be, so he figures out how.
but the key words there are if need be. he absolutely can lift a chunk of earth five times his size, or entirely soak a full grown adult in pond water, or slap someone around with a strong gust of wind or power a building for a month with a bolt of lightning. will he be doing any of this? no. not unless his or bolin’s lives or livelihoods are threatened. mako’s struggle is that outside of life-or-death combat? he’s about the same as a nonbender. because bending has always been a risk—a life threatening and life ending risk—and one he isn’t willing to take unnecessarily. his journey is learning that bending can be used for more than harm or to enforce fearful order.
fourth and kind of final thought for avatar mako for now—he’s the earth avatar in this, but he looks very fire nation in canon (at least, my understanding of ‘fire nation’ v ‘earth kingdom’ features) so I was thinking, the avatar represents the four nations (kind of five now if we’re counting republic separately) (oh my god new thought what if there was an rc avatar ‘whose avatar is it’ ‘air by my guess’ ‘nah it’s republic city’s turn now’ ‘how does that even make sense? their blood is of the four nations.’ ‘I don’t make the rules man. ask the spirits, they’re right there.’) but they always look like the nation they’re from so. what if all the avatars look a little mixed but just lean heavy into native. so mako looks like a mixed kid already (though I’d make him more ek—will specify in a sec) but then just gets more mixed from. everywhere. but it’s not even generalized like,,, he looks like he’s from specific subcultures the last avatars came from. earth part looks kyoshi even though his dad wasn’t from the island. fn part looks like caldera city even though mom wasn’t. air—less noticeable, but he looks like aang, in a way. very temple-kid-y and less nomad-y. if that makes sense. and I’d say water part is kuruk but there’s also the ‘avatars look like their past life’s lover’ so. katara (ADDING TO THE PARALLELS IM GOING INSANE)
so this is the part where I elaborate on the ‘more earth kingdom’ part of mako’s design in my head. this also is part of the avatar-looking-like-lover thing. so ek complexions are pretty ranged, but a good deal of them are darker skinned. mako’s pretty fair, but I propose as a kid whose dad is white-brown (he’s an Italian farmer boy who tans heavy and he looks brown) and is also white-brown when I spend too long outside (ten minutes) in the summer; mako who tans so quick into a more typical dark ek tone. also bolin is darker because he deserves melanin. he gets to keep gold eyes cause they’re cool but I propose.. heterochromia!!! green/gold, could be some grayish/blue? js an absolute melting pot in there. then I associate ek with less pronounced but boxier facial structure, so either his face stays like,,, long, and is softer or stays sharp and is boxier like bolin’s. honestly prefer the first one but both are neat. also hooked nose. I don’t make the rules. katara also has a hooked nose btw it’s real I saw it.
also mako and katara have the same glare (sokka told me) and they scrunch their faces up like little carbon copies of each other when they’re focused. by the way I love to parallel the shit out of katara and mako can you tell,,
I just realized I wrote a longpost length ask. I’m so sorry.
I think I had something else to say but it’s getting late and it’s a school night 4 me so I’ve gotta get to sleep.
rest well! your favorite anon,
🐌
ah hello sorry for the extremely late response snailon!
I honestly think there’s nothing more than elevator music behind bo’s eyes in canon because if the creators allowed anything else it would solely be The Horrors
tbh you're so correct about this. let bolin have Feelings, 2024!!! (i find it so interesting that the general consensus is that bolin is more well-liked by the lok fanbase, but mako's fans are deep in the trenches whereas it's a lot harder to find active bolin fans. i stay forever respectful of the even fewer of them out there. not entirely sure how to articulate it, but yeah. bolin deserves better both from canon and the fanbase and one day i'll have to deconstruct his entire existence because he's just a fascinating creature who represents sort of a paper cutout of a stereotype
which, for the record, is not to say I like [mako's] hair. I want him to grow it out more so he stops looking so fucking dumb with his stupid pointy ass hair (I really really really hate mako’s hair)
HAHA that's valid. tbh i'm pretty neutral towards it; i like s1-s3 hair better than s4 hair because while i think that mako's poor attempt to comb himself into some semblance of Proper Society is pretty accurate to his character, i'm just not a big fan of it (though the fact that it looks bad is probably a further testament to his character never finding proper integration into society)
he’s just a girl (insert sad coquette hamster)
again. coughing at the essay i'll never finish writing on this. (okay off topic but i really really love transfem mako so much but also just fem mako in general and i need to put this out into the world. early lok fandom was on a seriously good kick when they were all drawing and writing lesbian makorra is my confession. mako being a girl makes my brain whirr)
also if you have any,, fic recs,, I would be very not opposed,,,,,
fic recs list i've written up but there's a lot of other good ones out there. immediately off the top of my head, people whose writing on mako i really like in general include slacktension (incredible author & artist from original airing with a mako voice of all time and great character dynamic exploration), rockingthegraveyard (best mako & bolin dynamics), wastetimeandtype (i especially like their casual ship fics and they made me an accidental fan of huan/mako), deerstalkerdeathfrisbee (wuko author but their mako voice is impeccable), bobtailsquid/steinbecks (another author from original airing whose writing style is just so poignant and accurate to character), themanofmanyhats, and velkynkarma. idk how you feel on makorra specifically but i confess, i accidentally really do like them and there's a lot of good stuff on ao3/ffn for them that i could share :P and i too am a fan of makorrasami but tragically, there's not a lot of that out there; however, all of old_and_new_friends' makorrasami works are fantastic. they're a multishipper who writes a lot of mako and very well, and while while i haven't read a lot of their fics because not all the ships speak to me, the ones i have read are all great. so yeah i'd suggest you take a look to see if there's anything there up your alley!
raava gets really fucking confused being in their first ever mixed kid and just. skips right back to air after mako. would that not be the funniest shit ever. like the earth kingdom would already be pressed that their go was a mixed kid who was a criminal firebender for the first bit of his life, but imagine how the FIRE NATION feels having their avatar “skipped over” because mako (again, CRIMINAL FIREBENDER) was technically a fn avatar.
okay this is actually so funny what LMFAO i didn't take into consideration that the avatar of the generation being from your nation is probably generally a point of pride and that mako's general existence is like,, the greatest possible insult to that in all the ways khsjdfbhfhsdbh i might have to casually include that in some outsider pov because the sheer comedy potential oh my god
do you think they could take on a mentor or distant relative role for mako?
i realize i probably didn't word it very explicitly in my initial explanation of this au, but what i actually meant was that raava couldn't leave the non-aang host entirely until their death because her presence was vital to their living. it's casually playing off the theory that yue was meant to be the water avatar, and so she was born sickly because of the absence of spiritual energy her destiny had intended for her — that raava's presence plays a role in the sustaining of her host's life. to sum up what i mean: raava is the vital life juice infused in the destined avatars. (roughly. it's been a while since i looked at this theory lol) therefore, while they continue to live independently of aang's actual death, raava can't move onto the next avatar until this not-avatar also dies. so they are very much dead as mako's immediate predecessor. but it's a great idea and i love that your brain thinks this way!
mako’s struggle is that outside of life-or-death combat? he’s about the same as a nonbender. because bending has always been a risk—a life threatening and life ending risk—and one he isn’t willing to take unnecessarily. his journey is learning that bending can be used for more than harm or to enforce fearful order.
oh interesting take. i can see that. in planning this au, i was thinking more among the lines of him only viewing bending other than fire to be a risk, and that he only ever figured out earthbending up until the point of where the story starts, but yeah i didn't really consider which element would be his block. he's honestly a pretty versatile guy in my opinion — i feel that he moves in a very airbender way (read: korra's spiral-motions in a leaf in the wind are meant to demonstrate her picking up mako's style of deflection, evasion, and waiting to strike), but his mannerisms are very earthbender in his stability in reality/rooted nature despite his lack of general stability in life. obviously he's got the firebender in him; i think he has a lot of pent up emotions and he generally represses them very well, but when it does get unleashed then he has a very typical-firebender explosive sort of manner. (i'm still adamantly against the take that he's a hotheaded no-thoughts raging firebender man though LMAO i don't understand how it's such a thing. sorry for the tangent. i'm resigned.) and for water, i feel it's adjacent to air in being less about head-on motions, and it's pretty reflective of mako's tendancies of roundabout-ness when it comes to matters of the heart. i don't really know how to articuate it but he has the most waterbender vibe. it's the katara so what i'm saying is that i don't really see him struggling with any of the elements in the way aang struggled with earth and korra with air, and you pose an interesting point. i'm not sure if your proposal would be in line with my current planning of this au, but it's still a really interesting idea that i'll mull over! it's a neat segway into the whole amon/equalists arc that i'd never cover but would still be set in the near future and i like the concept. thank you for sharing :)
but he looks very fire nation in canon
oh yeah i agree LOL i've seen edits of switching mako & bolin's eye colors (+ that iconic screencap from s1e2) and as much as it doesn't suit him i still stand by that he SHOULD'VE had green eyes and bolin gold. it's a small detail i've seen randomly included in a couple fics from way back when and it always makes my heart happy haha. i agree that lok dropped the ball in terms of portraying all the mixed families that exist in the series and that there was so much potential there, both with mako & bolin as main cast characters and background in the kataang kids (plus by proxy the airkids) — not just in the crossover of cultures, but just physical character design as well.
(also katara & mako parallels actually drive me crazy too lhfdhgksfjd)
(gonna be real dude by the time we finish feeding off of each other we're going to have oc-ified mako so much that he's not even from the legend of korra anymore)
i really love receiving your asks!! <33 but yeah this was a long one so it took a while to find the time to sit down & deconstruct into halfway cohesive responses. i'd love to chat about mako with u more in greater detail but it's a little bit tough with these longass askbox exchanges </3 i'll just put it out there — if you're comfortable, feel free to reach out to me from your main and we can talk through dms! and if not i'll always be happy to receive you in my inbox; just know that my responses will tend to be delayed because i have a lot going on in my life haha. it's lovely to hear from you again :)

heyo!!! it's trent anon again. idk if I can do two requests? well i'd love to see martindale with 62 (one muse calms the other from an intense rage) and 76 (one muse is royalty while the other is a commoner / rogue / societal outcast)!!!!!! im sure u can guess who the royal one would be... if u can only do one then 62!! either way I know it'll be awesome!! thanks!!!
TRENT ANON IM LIKE 4739 MONTHS LATE BUT???? this one?????? nah this one will deffo make it up for it (man's confident)
pls enjoy! mechanic aaron! 'rich lad' martin!
The rich lad is shuffling. Comically so because he's not subtle about it, hovering behind Aaron, obvious cashmere jumper and at least hundred quid jeans and some pristine white trainers with no visible brand are a glaring neon inside the shop. Aaron can only think of a wedding when he's as presentable as the customer.
"Alright?" Aaron addresses the blonde—his type, though you don't have to live up to the quote to always aim for the star—but then the blonde smiles shyly, nonexistent top lip curling, blue (grey?) eyes casting a quick glance and, oh.
Might as well.

i have a lot of thoughts about "problematic" media and the dumb fucking "pro-ship vs antis" discourse that are probably disjointed bc i am half awake
for one i wanna preface this with: i think it is good actually to critique problematic elements in any media. movies, games, comics, tv shows, even fanfiction. if you think me saying something is "problematic" means i think it should be outlawed and banned and i personally want you, a fan of that thing, to die and i support suicide baiting you, you are just as braindead as the people you claim to hate. you are annoying. this post is not for you and is in fact also about you. you are a tar pit.
there is a vocal minority of people who do in fact see any depiction of something bad and think it has to be condoning it. they are genuinely few and far between, but they are VERY vocal, and typically very young. but i think after looking at how these people thing and present arguments, i really understand why they think this
depiction, if you are something with any critical thinking skills, does not inherently condone or condemn its subject matter. it can condone it, yes, but it can also condemn it. typically a story is mature enough to depict certain things, it is doing so for a reason and has a lot of nuance and shows if it condemns or condones it in indirect ways. for example in a very clear cut way: slasher films show a killer murdering people. they are screaming and dont want to be killed and try to stop him or run away. it is supposed to make you, the audience, feel bad and go 'well i wouldnt wanna get killed'. but at no point does someone look at the camera and go "killing people is wrong and should not be condoned. people dont like being killed".
this gets a bit more messy in other topics that are commonly normalized or go under the radar like racism and abuse. ultimately i think many stories that are "problematic" arent really done that way on purpose, hence why i dont believe in attacking the people who made that story for these things. a lot of times these things sneak their way in subconsciously or by pure carelessness. example: i do not think all of the designers for skyrim are racist white supremacists who intentionally made this story to be a perfect recruiting and radicalization tool for white supremacists. skyrim is a story about fantasy pop culture vikings in fantasy pop-culture viking land where you kill dragons. however there are also elves, which oppose the fantasy pop culture vikings and the vikings hate, and a civil war where many of the fantasy vikings want to purge and non-pop culture fantasy viking out of magical fantasy viking land. that shit is like catnip to white surpremacists. they love that shit. ultimately skyrim is just written badly. at no point was that the INTENTION behind the game, but it has been used to radicalize a lot of white guys and also is still beloved by white supremacists for these reasons.
ultimately that example is one most people im talking about wouldnt even get though, because it requires a lot of thought, understanding of how white supremacy operates, how we even got the concept of "vikings" in our larger pop culture (it was nazis, lol) and that those concepts are wildly inaccurate, etc. instead these kinds of critiques go after very overt depictions of subject matter or literally children's media.
and i think there is a very real reason why they do this i have come to realize: not only do they not know how to critically think, actually trying to think critically even in the slightest is mentally exhausting to them. by this i don't mean "ha ha they are stupid and lazy" i mean they genuinely dont understand critical thinking. at all. like they lack media literacy entirely. ive heard dumb takes from these people like "symbolism is trying to hide/bury the themes of a story" or "because the abuse in this story is metaphorical it doesn't count". they dont understand the parts of a story and why they are utilized as literary devices and actively resent having to think about the things presented to them.
this is a larger cultural issue. i see it beyond just self aggrandizing, black and white morality faux activists. you can see it in spaces of pretty much any political view or in any community: a lack of understanding of how to break down information and stories to evaluate it. we all have a tendency towards bias and they familiar and things that make us comfortable, but these people are on a whole other level. thinks like metaphor are seen as nothing more than lies and detraction used to obscure information rather than help build information up. understanding nuance, personal flaws, deeper intentions, and how you actually convey complex information is completely beyond them.
they live, ultimately, to just drink up content and media while having to think as little as humanely possible. they crave exciting stories but with extremely simplistic meanings and those stories just don't exist. because confronting these topics means rethinking their entire world view, be they extremely insular "leftists" or right leaning morons. it means admitting maybe they are not always right and perfect in more complex ways than simple mistakes a 4 year old would make. even when people like to bitch and moan that "depicting something doesn't mean you inherently condone it" they don't give examples on how you can tell. they don't talk about how personal biases can contribute to a story condoning it when the author does not consciously believe it. unconscious biases aren't even necessarily harmful, but going unchecked they can evolve to full on bigotry, born out of a refusal to admit you can be wrong about things and things are allowed to make you uncomfortable without being a personal attack on you.
because again, this thought pattern exists to preserve the ego and to think as little as possible. admitting things have nuance means admitting EVERYTHING can have nuance. that maybe the people who hurt you are not all irredeemable monsters or that you were the villain in someone else's life. that people you love to attack for moral superiority are complex individuals with their own lives and experiences.
this thought process is ultimately AGAINST accountability too. things are bad because they are bad. there are no pieces that give it nuance, the existence of them is either morally good or morally bad. which means if you think of yourself as morally good, as we all like to, that means you can never, EVER admit to doing something "morally bad", intentionally or not. i saw it recently with mods for a community refusing to admit they did something racist (attacking a black woman and making her life miserable) and would instead rather burn the community down with them while whining about they feel "unsafe" because people said that behavior was unacceptable, wanted them to apologize to the person harmed, and put steps in place to keep it from happening again. which is basic accountability. but that requires thinking about your actions, why they happened, that it doesn't make you an irredeemable monster who can never be better ever, and accept responsibility for what you did.
it is protection of biases and your own beliefs rather than challenging them. to think critically we need to know how to break these things down, evaluate them individually, how they work in a larger whole, and why these things are being told to us. maybe people refuse because they are comfortable in their biases. maybe people are comfortable in their biases and dont like acknowledging them because they dont understand critical thinking and media analysis. maybe its both. i dont really know.
all i know is it is annoying and maybe we really need to by and large teach people literary analysis and critical thinking skills from the ground up. because i cannot keep looking at the same brain dead takes in every community about how symbolism exists to obscure and metaphors are actually lies because "why not just be literal" and watch people make the dumbest moral arguments on both sides of any debate

even before you get to the crisis thing, do you ever wonder how many industries took omnic labor for granted pre-sapience? im imagining like, omnic chocolate as the ethical alternative to child slave chocolate. the nursing crisis solved overnight. you see animosity from human miners towards omnic workers displacing them on the shambali map, because under capitalism that's an inevitable tension, but im imagining some countries smart enough to implement universal basic income and ending up with something like 3/4s automated luxury not-actually-socialism.
and then the crisis occurs and that gargantuan labor sector comes out the other side of it bloodied and inexplicably demanding human rights. imagine your roomba demanding a living wage. imagine your roomba is a war criminal and it's demanding a living wage. serious philosophical query: is it morally culpable for the ankles it stabbed before it was sentient?
but beyond that, at the source, what does a living wage even look like for something that doesn't need food, doesn't need living quarters bigger than a storage closet, and seems to run off sci-fi perpetual motion juice? what makes it even worthy of that consideration? what happens to me, a human who was thoughtlessly dependent on that labor and now has to make radical adjustments to my quality of life? to accommodate the fucking google dots who blew up my hometown?
these would be fascinating questions to build into a world if any writers but those at blizzard were handling them. (and yes i know about karel capek)
That's a thing I'm also frequently asking myself in my fics! I actually love that one line from HALfred Glitchbot on the Hollywood map where he bemoans "mandatory human hiring quotas"--I do feel that partially answers your question, but it also further reinforces the question of what do omnic spend their capital on? I actually imagine they throw significant weight behind legislation just for certain protections, as well as community networks to facilitate safety and quality of life (whatever that looks like) for omnics, and possibly even communally buying land, though I imagine there's also plenty of laws in place that block omnics from a lot of the economic freedoms humans enjoy just by virtue of the fact that omnics do present a real threat to human labor.
We do know that a lot of omnics view themselves very communally from Tracer's London Calling comics, but there are definite exceptions as we've seen with Lynx Seventeen and some of the omnics in Ramattra's short story. We know that omnics in London are forced to live underground, but Maximilien also owns a dang casino, and we know that the Don Rumbotico rum company was a human family-owned operation before Talon bought it out and re-branded it with an omnic mascot (that could be a choice on Max's end, now that I think about it). So there are a lot of cultural questions about the omnic as laborer and how that's perceived and used in marketing.
But yeah it is actually wild how you do see omnics overrepresented in a lot of service industries, creative industries, or high-skill jobs (mainly Omnic waiters whose sentience is actually questionable, HALfred being a director, Iggy being a scientist, and also BOB being a highly skilled butler) but you don't see a lot of mention of the omnic as hard laborer (Cassidy mentions doing farm labor in the Ashe novel, but I'll need to check back to see if he mentions omnic doing farmwork as well.
Then again, this is asking Blizzard, which recently went through major union-busting scandals, to think about labor... which I imagine is a tall ask.

Oh- it's just the other one.
Tumblr media
They'll rent your house with u inside it and call you a dumbass
I just made it in some hours, very quickly just to- I dunno, maybe a profile pic?
OH ALSO, HAHAHAHA JERRICK TRAP'S OUT
Yay
I really wish I was talking about Jerrys and Ricks right now... Damn, my life is totally out of control
Anyway
I'll write some bot stuff and council stuff here, just to... Relax a bit
I missed writing a little longer posts
While I stopped drawing frequently I started to develop more the issue of the backstore and the context of Soft Bully's story
But... I ended up going too far. Like, I was very concerned about having an extremely well-constructed story full of stuff, and I ended up engaging some headcannons about the Council. Since they have a certain connection with my OCs, and are part of the context that I found. Speaking of the Council, MY GOD, what UNBEARABLE people.
I had to study the way they speak, see their participation and interactions all for my own instead of just copying and pasting some research that someone has already done, Do you know why?! BECAUSE NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE COUNCIL
AND IT'S TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE, because not even I cared, and even now I don't want to admit that I care
They were all portrayed as shallow villains before the legendary Rick & Morty Presents: Council of Ricks. If it weren't for this comic they would be 100% headcannons that I casually pulled from the depths of my clinically insane mind. I mean these guys just did terrible stuff because there was power in their hands and they could do that. ALL BY CONVENIENCE
What im trying to say is: I do roleplay. Roleplay It's my life. I've already interacted with most of the Rick & Morty bots in character A.I., and I'm so greedy that if any of you have bots from your OCs, GIVE ME LINKS. I LOVE. I'll hug them, I'll make them pancakes and I'll give them hello kitty plushies.
Talking about the bot;
I've already rewrote my bots a few times.
When I started making them, I realized that the Council in particular had difficulty detaching itself from the example messages. He didn't show much of the Ricks' personality. However, after writing the model for each Rick, I noticed a big improvement.
Tumblr media
To be able to make a bot that had a minimum of depth and coherence in the roleplay, I had to make the information dynamic, and I can say that even after everything I did about them, I didn't learn anything. I built the code base with another info that I had already built when I started creating bots and changed it to a model I saw on Tik Tok.
The original model I saw on TikTok looks something like this:
Char("name of the bot")
Age("set age" + "adicional info")
I realized that when programming a bot, you cannot use ":", or the bot will see this as a message to be memorized. I also discovered that the model is not mandatory and the bases are fully customizable, anyway you can make the information more dynamic to the bot organizing it in any way you want since it doesn't recognize it as a message.
So, instead of using the model for a single character for the bot, I separated the Ricks and described their traits.
Most of the code are headcannons... I mean, what can I do? It's instinct!
This is how Prime Rick's code looks like:
Prime Rick- council("hairstyle is shoved hair in the sides" + "curly hair" + "cut scar behind his neck" + "Show Leader-like traits, but is often overshadowed and sidelined by Rick IV's aggressive leadership" + "Serious, level-headed" + "He cares about others but has a lot of difficulty showing it" + "Prefers to define appropriately fair punishments rather than exaggerated ones" + "knows the cidatel is bad but feels like it's too late for it to change" + "Gets angry with offenses directed at himself but not the ones direct to his authority" + "Overall, he doesn't care much about it, he knows he's part of the Council and doesn't need to reaffirm it or deny it when someone says otherwise" + "Is confident, has the upper hand in flirt when alone with the one he love" + "Hides a relationship with Rick C-197 from the council.")
If the Council remains good as they're right now, I won't need to rewrite them. In this case, I'm going to apply the same method to fix one of my first bots: DJerry.

some countdown reread thoughts
btw heres the reading order for jason purposes--asterisk denoting cameo or single-panel appearances: countdown 51-48, teen titans 03 47, amazons attack #2*, countdown 47*, countdown 46-43, the all-new atom 13*, countdown 42-39, the all-new atom 14, countdown 38*, countdown 37-34, the all-new atom 15, countdown 33, countdown presents the search for ray palmer: wildstorm, countdown 32-30, countdown presents the search for ray palmer: crime society, countdown 29-26, countdown presents: lord havok and the extremists #1*, countdown presents the search for ray palmer: red rain, countdown 24, countdown presents the search for ray palmer: gotham by gaslight, lord havok and the extremists #2, countdown 21, countdown presents the search for ray palmer: red son, countdown 20-19, countdown presents the search for ray palmer: superwoman/batwoman, countdown 18-4, then the final issue of countdown.
for simplicity's sake its still readable if you do just want to start at countdown 51 and down to 1--is in fact probably more readable this way--but if you're reading countdown at all the search for ray palmer issues are definitely worth your time; otherwise the only one i consider vital is tt #47. i would also recommend robin 1993 #178 where tim calls donna to ask about red robin suit after that bc it helps tie up that thread a little (albeit not well).
couple questions to look up/theorize on: how long did this take, how many of the earths did they go to... after this Donna goes on to titans 2008, jason does his stint in robin (177, 182-183), then battle for the cowl (😮‍💨), but im not sure where kyle winds up so i should. Check that lol. i know at least at one point someone references two days passing but thats the only indication of time i actually rmr.
overall plot thread for "the challengers": the monitors identify duela dent as a universal aberration by the monitors and shes killed by the rogue monitor who later starts going by solomon; jason and donna investigate her death and run into the monitor jason starts calling bob, who tells them they need to find ray palmer to prevent the multiverse from 'sploding, or whatever; theyre on the run from monitors and various Baddies Of The Week as they do this bc jay donna and kyle are all considered threats to the sanctity of the multiverse or whatever; kyle shows up, saves donna, and joins the team; they find ray palmer, bob tries to kill him gasp shock horror betrayal; bob gets killed by solomon; the other plot threads in countdown converge around here (see next paragraph), and they're mostly just trying to get home with the threat of the next Crisis on the horizon; big fight; jason drops the red robin suit in a dumpster and catches the bus back to gotham with Harley and holly robinson (they landed, i believe, in metropolis, but i would have to double check that).
other plot threads: karate kid caught the most comic-book-y futuristic nanobot plague you can imagine, holly (and later harley) wind up in a gotham womens shelter run by amazons as a covert op situation masterminded by granny goodness who is masquerading as athena on themyscira, piper and trickster are... something to do with barts death im honestly not totally clear what their plot was supposed to be, and mary marvel grappling with gaining losing and regaining magic powers and uh rapidly oscillating in and out of being eeeevil. i think thats all.
so the plot itself is mostly coherent in the point A leading reasonably to point B sense all the way through; the major issue there is just like, 1) the infighting with the monitors being really poorly handled and the logic behind all that being so iffy as to almost be a plot hole and 2) the reasoning for jay and donna to decide to go along with and help bob the monitor in the first place being *extremely* flimsy.
the *character* thread that im struggling with in my mental retelling is how a little over halfway through people got randomly extra hostile to Jason--disproportionately so--and not even in a way where the thread was carried coherently from issue to issue. and on one hand the impact of "the challengers" on the multiverse was so wacky and comic book-y that i *could* do a copout and blame that (at least partially) but like i actually want to figure out where i think donna and jasons friendship can go from this and i *am* interested in the idea that donna was upset enough about jason shooting her as a fakeout to get the Bad Guys off their back that she rapidly changed her mind about him. like that does have a lot of potential. its just that the execution was all over the place.
i guess where im at is the same place i always wind up at with countdown or bftc which is just like. not having any one concrete idea in my head of what i think Really happened, just a fluid set of ideas that have potential to build off of depending on what im doing with any specific story concept. :/. o well lol

❝  you need someone.  let me be that person.  let me be what you need.  ❞ 😳
you didnt send a dealers choice so im (spins wheel) going w damijon. which i wouldnt normally write bc i havent read enuff comics and etc but i got an idea vis a vis aro damian and the incomprehensible yearning of queer platonic attraction and it wont stop scratching at my head so HOPEFULLY THIS DOESNT SUCK also this is probably when theyre older idk im playing it fast and loose w the timeline here
send me a prompt!
Damian had thought he'd read all of the signs right. The answer was plain. Once again, he was the only person capable of thinking rationally about things that were ridiculously simple. After too long of listening to Jon complain, he presented the solution to him after another long night, their backs pressed against the cold concrete wall of a rooftop stairwell, Jon's shoulder like a fire against his own. "You need someone. Then let me be that person. Let me be what you need."
He expected a relieved grin, perhaps. Praise for his brilliance, certainly. Likely a tease to pad Jon's no doubt bruised ego at being unable to come up with something so simple himself.
Instead, Jon stared at him. He looked at Damian like he'd heard gibberish instead of words, and was trying to parse through it. The smile he gave him was hesitant, awkward. "What?"
Damian sighed. "You keep complaining that you feel alone. That you want someone who ties you down. I do not see why that cannot fall under one of my many roles as your best friend."
"Oh." The relief didn't come. Instead, Jon just looked awkward. He rubbed at the back of his neck, his eyes skittering away from Damian's. Not that Damian ever made eye contact, but the way Jon did it made it obvious that he wasn't looking at Damian anymore. His mouth opened, and then closed again.
Damian frowned. "What is it?"
Jon hesitated. Then he shifted, planting his feet more firmly on the ground like he was gearing up for something big, moving his hands between his knees to gesture. "Look, D... I think you might've misunderstood? It's not that I don't appreciate you! I mean, your friendship means the world to me. But I was talking about, like... what my mom means for my dad, you know?"
"No."
Jon blew out a breath, his bangs ruffling in the wind. "A partner."
"We are partners."
"Not that kind."
Slowly, it started to click. Something in Damian's stomach churned. "You mean a romantic partner."
"Yeah."
Damian didn't know why it felt like his heart was sinking. He frowned to himself, turning over his thoughts, trying to examine why he felt upset by this revelation. It wasn't as though he... had something against Jon having a partner, or wanted... something like that, with Jon. But disappointment still nagged at him, burning in the back of his throat. He fought to keep it from turning into something sharp, folding his arms over his knees and swallowing the impulse until he felt like he could talk. "Why?"
Jon gave him a strange look again. "Why?"
"Why does romance feel so essential? What's missing from this? Is it not better to forge friendships, which supposedly last lifetimes?"
"Love can, too."
Damian scoffed. "As if love cannot take platonic forms. As if the platonic is, somehow, worth less, or not as necessary to living a fulfilling life."
"Of course it isn't," said Jon, surprised. "It's just different."
"How. What is the void that platonic affection leaves behind?" Damian's voice was flat. Irritation bubbled under his skin, even despite the way he tried to push it back. In his head, he knew that it wasn't a proportional reaction, but something about it just stung. The idea that he wasn't enough, somehow, that he couldn't provide something, that someone else could become more important to him, maybe? He knew, logically, that Jon would never do any of that to him, but he also had seen enough people do it that it seemed hard to believe that he wouldn't.
Jon was quiet for some time, studying his face like he might find an answer somewhere in it. The way he looked at him, like he didn't understand what had come over Damian, itched at something horrible in the back of Damian's mind. "Damian..." he started.
Damian shook his head. He could feel clearly that he wasn't responding to this correctly. If he continued, he would doubtlessly say something he'd regret- assuming he hadn't already. He got to his feet, unhooking his grappling hook from his belt. "It's late."
Jon sighed. Then he plastered on a smile, grabbing Damian's hand as Damian offered it out. "Yeah. We can talk more later." The threat of it hung. They would talk more later.
Damian felt queasy. He could only hope that, before then, he sorted out whatever was wrong with him.

You know what seeing my tumblr homies talk about their ocs has really motivated me to do the same. So im going to ramble about the cast of my comic LOL
Firstly, on to the worldbuilding...
The world of my comic takes place in the far future, long after global warming has taken its course and messed up a good chunk of modern society. All of the rich have long fled to Mars, out of attempt to escape the consequences of destroying their home planet.
A few centuries later, however, they realize their attempts at survival are futile and attempt to return back, much to the anger of those who were left behind, and managed to rebuild all on their own. To say the least, their conflict quickly became violent.
To reflect the hard societal reset that happened on Earth, a lot of the setting and technology present is 70s / 80s / 90s inspired, with a fancier polish to reflect their place hundreds of years in the future, of course.

Inspiration...
Now, the world of my comic is inspired by many things!!! To help you gather an idea of what I have in mind, i'll list them here:
Tumblr media
Now on to my silly skrunkly characters!!!
Tumblr media
This is Laika, weird cat-dog thing, local societal menace, and genuine war criminal. Hes in his 30s, a short king (only around 5'3), and has all the pent up rage and anger to show for it.
In spite of his sad emo childhood backstory, I have crafted him specifically to be the most insufferable (in the most lovable way) character to ever exist on planet earth. Hes cruel, selfish, aggressive, short-tempered, and prone to violence (derives pleasure from the harm and vulnerability of others, really). He has 0 self awareness and loves to play the victim in every given scenario.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To put it in simple terms, he never mentally developed beyond his traumatized childhood self. Hes under a constant state of survival and self-preservation.
Now in his adult years, he works for the government to develop nuclear weapons. Despite his shitty attitude, he is incredibly smart, especially in regards to science / physics. Still, however, I think it is a rather dumb move on the governments part to hand a ticking time-bomb like him literal nukes. Might just be me, though!
Tumblr media
These are Laikas coworkers. They do not have any individual references just yet, so sadly I must rant about them together based off of this puny sketch!
Goose:
Albino raccoon , he/they , Lead Engineer for the Government war effort. Also... Laikas ex! Awkward! This fool is 6ft+ and a walking brick wall of flesh and muscle, but lacks the self awareness necessary to come off as anything beyond mildly intimidating. He comes from a long line of Aviators, Engineers, and Pilots, birthing his life-long fixation on the subject.
Goose is air-headed, and endearing to those who only know him by passing. But in reality hes equally as insufferable as Laika. He's selfish, egotistical, and has a multitude of narcissistic tenancies. He will find any reason at all to passively-aggressively drag others down in meaningless, petty ways, just to make him feel better about himself. His tendency to place himself on a pedestal is almost entirely fueled by insecurities he refuses to acknowledge, which directly bounces off of Laikas hate-fueled enjoyment of picking at others.
He and Laika were childhood best-friends, High-School sweethearts, and lifelong partners... Before they both reunited after Laikas time on the battlefield, however, and realized they had both grown into something they can no longer tolerate. And yet their burning hatred has circled back around into some weird, toxic form of passionate love... Still hooking up and all over eachother, same as before!
Paradox:
Weird coyote thing, they/them, late 30s / early 40s ... Develops chemical weapons for the Government. VERY passionate about their work. Super into conspiracies. This scrawny canine is simply unhinged, to be totally honest. They couldn't be bothered to open up about their family or past, leaving their peers to wonder how exactly they became the way they did.
All that is known is that Paradox's chemical burns... Are most certainly caused from some past self experimentation. (They 100% DIY'd their own top surgery btw. They are indeed that genre of Transgender Scientist). Like the rest of the cast, Paradox is an ass, in one way or another. They lack total care of empathy for others. They have, and will, throw a baby in an incinerator for science.
Paradox lives in the basement of their workplace, pretty much, spending the good majority of their days working away at new weapons, committing unethical science experiments on Prisoners of War, or trying to frantically piece together proof that the moon landing was fake. (yes, even despite the fact that their entire War effort... IS IN SPACE). They are simultaneously stupid and genius, which is why I adore them.
Juno:
Borzoi / Afghan-Hound , she/her , 50s. A lot of people who see this woman call her... a MILF. And perhaps she is. But she is a very EVIL one. Your time with her will not be enjoyable brother. Besides, shes married, unfortunately for her husband. Juno develops Biological weapons for the Government. She was once a Biology teacher for a local Middle School, but lost her job after fighting a student.
Juno is ... A Karen. Mean, selfish, overtly-controlling, and will never pass up an opportunity to complain or jab at those she views beneath her (which is everybody ever, to be honest). If you ever see somebody yelling at a minimum wage worker for something stupid, that is her. If you've ever had to deal with a nosy, bitchy coworker, that is her.
Juno is very spiritual (the embodiment of those christian girls on Instagram who spew out bigotry with sweet bible quotes in her bio), she very much believes in the whole 'this crystal will ward off evil energy' thing. Shes also a vegan, and views feral animals as above society as a whole. She views her fellow man as pests, leeches on the Earth, who are cruel to the innocent animals that inhabit it.
She derives pleasure from using her live for biology as a means for harming/killing her fellow man, and usually in the most unethical ways possible. She has planted Termites in the homes of many of her enemies.
To make a long story short... This entire comic is about assholes living the most painful inconvenienced lives ever possible. It is hilarious. You should ask me about them btw pspspsps come here pspsps
