The narrative climax of the REIGEN spin-off manga is so unexpectedly somber and tragic. Bones needs to animate it so so bad bc could you even imagine the redraws and edits and amvs that would come from it? Tome crying in fear and Reigen hugging her to transfer the curse to himself and die in place of her. Reigen walking out into the middle of the forest, rapidly declining, expecting to die alone, his only hope being Mob who he isn’t sure will arrive in time or even show up to help him at all. A weak and half-dead Reigen being yanked off the ground by his suit lapels by a vision of Mob who tells Reigen that he’s come to save him, that he knows the way out, that everything’s going to be okay. And Reigen knows it isn’t the real Mob, but he doesn’t run or try to save himself and calls it by Mob’s name anyway. An angst-lover’s paradise.

PART 26
of the dfk audiobook translation
@cnka
Martina: „I need to tell you something. I’m not a doctor’s daughter. I don’t have a phone because I don’t have money. And my clothes are second-hand. Not vintage.“
Jo: „Why didn’t you say anything? I told you about my mother too.“
Matze: „You know, Martina, I think that you don’t have to act like you’re rich. You’re still you!“
Martina: „I know. But I just wanted to be someone else.“
Matze: „Uli shouldn’t climb up there either.“
Martina: „And you don’t have to do boxing if you don’t want to.“
Matze: „And you, Jo, don’t have to be so cool all the time.“
Jo: (laughs) „I am cool! And you, Matze, are way more clever than you always think.“
Matze: „Really?“
Jo: „Yeah!“
Martina: (giggles happily)
Matze, genuinely: „Thanks!“
Narrator (audiobook):
But their good mood abruptly vanishes when they meet Ruda and her gang down in town.
Martina: „Oh no.“
Jo: „Not good!“
Matze: „Externs.“
Jo: „Technically it’s our territory…“
Martina: „We’re outnumbered.“
Matze: „We can’t just run away!“
Martina: „I don’t know!“
Jo: „Whatever. We stick together here.“
Matze: „For Uli.“
Martina: „For Uli.“
Jo: „Yeah. For Uli.“
Narrator (audiobook):
The three gather all their courage and approach the Externs - they’re prepared for the worst.
As always, Ruda takes the word.
Ruda: „Uh. So. Well- We didn’t want it to come to this. We’re sorry.“
Sebi: „It just went way too far, that Internals-Externs thing.“
Martina: „Yeah. We all really overdid it.“
Narrator (Nichtraucher):
And now?
On this day, they didn’t have an answer.
So Martina focused on studying for the admission test with the help of Justus Bökh.
SCENE CHANGE
[Note: the red text on that picture says "Matze - losing is not an option - Papa"]
Matze: „Hello, Papa? I won’t go to the boxing camp this year.“
Narrator (Nichtraucher):
Matze prepared his holidays.
Matze: „I’ll stay here with Uli!“
SCENE CHANGE
Uli: „Mama!“
Narrator (Nichtraucher):
Uli was brought new laundry and the school books for next year.
SCENE CHANGE
Narrator (Nichtraucher):
The handsome Theodor felt the pressure to be solely responsible for the entertainment at the closing celebration.
SCENE CHANGE
Jo: „For you.“
Narrator (audiobook):
Martina can’t believe that Jo is gifting her the phone.
Martina: „What?“
Jo: „I'm getting a new one anyway.“
Martina: „Jo, that- I can’t accept that!“
Jo: „How else am I gonna call you in the holidays?“
They hug.
SCENE CHANGE
Martina studies in the light of her flashlight while Jo sleeps.
Narrator (Nichtraucher):
And apart from this nice gesture from Jo, not least because of the amount of school material, everything seemed to be heading towards a closing celebration without a play for Martina.
To which Martina, Jo, Matze and Uli had still invited me though.
SCENE CHANGE
The doors to the assembly hall open. Kids run in first, followed by their parents and the older kids.
Narrator (audiobook):
It’s finally time. The day of the closing celebration has come.
Parents, siblings, teachers and the students rush into the assembly hall in crowds.

Leaving the safety of Sam tumblr and seeing the worst takes possible is sooooooo… just…
(Dean Stan on TikTok called the Sam and dean fight about Amy in 7.06 dean “finally standing up for himself”)
That’s so funny.
Bro, he killed a lady. And then lied about it.
Like, there’s a lot of times where I’ll go, fine, Dean’s being morally ambiguous and he thinks he’s making the right call, sure, sure. This was not one of those times.
(Secret good spn in my head where this and the Benny situation combine in Sam’s mind in such a way that once Jack comes around, that why he becomes so invested in Dean seeing Jack as family. Because he knows that if he doesn’t? If all he can offer is that he would spare Jack, that he thinks Jack isn’t a monster? Dean has disregarded that before. But if Dean can come to that conclusion on his own, strip the title of monster away because he’s become personally invested, that might protect Jack.)

rewatching hotd & i wonder just a bit - i never made the connection that viserys may have let them attempt to save Aemma if she hadn’t said that she didn’t want to have anymore kids. i think that moment, the moment he realized that his final chance at a boy may die and his wife will refuse to have another, is the moment she becomes disposable to him.
and of course - it’s not worth it. the theoretical boy will never be worth the life of the living, breathing partner he has who loves and trusts him enough to clearly state that she is tired of mourning her babies. even if little baelor had lived, he would have been just as fucked as Aegon II was; raised by a father who resents his very existence because it is a reminder of the ways in which he failed as a husband to Aemma and a father to Rhaenyra. Aemma’s life was a precious thing that was not worth being traded for a boy that only existed in theory; she knew it, Rhaenyra knew it, shit even Daemon seemed to understand to a certain point that making the decision to murder a wife on the off chance it will save a son is a cruel decision for a husband to make, and that the decision should rest in the hands of the mother carrying the child (rip Rhea Royce tho, but that’s a different convo). But Viserys is so stuck in his dreams, so convinced that only a son will unite the realm that he sacrifices Aemma and the gods give him jack shit in return because Aemma’s life was worth more than what her womb was capable of conceiving, and Viserys only realized this after he had her ripped open.
And interestingly enough, because he still refuses to act decisively enough, still stuck with his head in his Dreams, he is sort of right and brings about the fall of the dragons through his continued inaction; because he doesn’t smooth things over with the sons he resents for not being Aemma’s, or pave the way properly for Rhaenyra to inherit, his death rips apart the realm. But all of that, all of it starts with poor Aemma - Aemma who decides she has had enough of her body being a graveyard and Aemma who is promptly murdered for it.

you and the hat man
oh boy you're fighting demons aren't you? it's like you're in a constant staring competition with something that's always in the peripheral. what the fuck. (at least, that's how people who don't know you would react). at this point you've probably gotten pretty familiar with the hat man. he's a reliable kind of guy. keeps to himself, sure, but you can trust him to be there. maybe a haunting isn't too bad if it's never left your side. you can only imagine what it will be like when he's not there any more.
god-hungry scientist and their abominable child
you stitched something together inside of yourself and gave it life with light from the sky and now it won't die and you can't kill it because part of you loves it and you're not quite right in the head or the person you used to be but at the end of the day it's simply a beast of sadness. you crave the mercy you didn't get from your creators and so i'm telling you please forgive yourself. please hold the monster by the hand.
moon curse of the werewolf
you have found yourself hungered or sickened or ambitious to the point of emotional carnage. you are fine, until you're not, and then you could rip someone in your way apart with your bared teeth by complete accident, and later claw at yourself in fits of pain trying to apologize. do you look at the moon that blessed you in her name, at her marred beauty and baneful eyes, and wish she could just crush that loving-hateful heart of yours before it crushes itself? every bite you take out of flesh is a response to the threads of silver bullets in you that haven't healed. the duality is that the human inside is howling too, gnashing, and without the wolf pelt, everyone can ignore it and turn away. at some point, you got tired of the moon being your only witness. now the wolf is there to make sure others know that you are hurt, and deserving of humanity, of attention to wounds. because that wolf loves you; all of you; and knows when you are hurt better than yourself.
