Okay well you try being constantly asked by media in a crowded, echoing space if you’re having problems with your confidence after you’ve shown improvement that has been ignored. You try being kind to people only to have the kindness thrown back in your face and vitriol said behind your back. You try facing back handed commentary and snide remarks about your future. Day in and day out, you try having article after article slandering your name being put out simply because people hate that you have money in a sport where that is the norm.

I’d be fed the fuck up too. Lance shouldn’t have to play nice for these people to treat him with the bare minimum respect. He deserves his seat, and I’m sick of it always being questioned if he does.

(I apologize for coming into your ask box to ramble about Emps again).

I have finished the game, and seen the choice that Emps makes if you wanna free Orpheus. To be honest, looking back, it wasn't surprising. I mentioned it last time, but I felt like that trust was never reciprocated from the Emperor. He always felt that he knew the best way to handle the Elder Brain. Even when he just as much of a pawn of its plans as us, he still refused to compromise, or see his own fault in full.

The same for Ansur, the same for Stelamane I bet. There was always a reason for him to explain why he did what he had to do. But at what point do the reasons stop feeling like they matter? At what point do the reasons feel like they fall short and you need to change yourself? I feel, personally, that Emps never tried to self reflect on that.

Anyway, all this to say, I found Emps reasoning more in character than it might seem at first in the moment. Still a great character, all in all.

Never apologize, love your rambles, they are very relatable and thought-provoking observations about the Emperor.

It is I who risk saying something hrm-ridiculous in thought-rambling response. Entirely-off-point speculations, and misinterpretations and all that. But if to err is to human, I am about to ✨ kill ✨ it.

Trust and control issues, never a good combo. Just like with everyone else, Emps had their own red flags , but I suppose unlike the companions, there wasn't enough hrm. Forgot the word. opportunity to grow with the team? trench soldier comradery? A chance to build said trust they kept asking for. Healthy character development.

Stubborn squid. Always trying to play as the maestro from the podium, never the percussionist sardined with everyone else in the orchestra pit.

Orchestrating from afar for two whole act (except for the number of conversations you have that you can count on one hand), while with your companions- ya be friggin' traveling hand-in-hand 24/7 with those weirdos. You know too much about them whether you like it or not. Building trust is mandatory to make it through this hellhole of an adventure together. Squid buddy though? Got the luxury to pick and choose when to trust which hurt them in the end.

Analytical-wise, storytelling-wise, it makes wonderful sense, and by all means, amazing writing and characterization, but here's the goshdarnfriggitydang thing-

It hurt my dang lil invested dumb heart

And I don't like hurting.

So gotta mend it the best way I know how.
